It is going on 3 years that I started to go to Avenue. The first time was my banker took me there. It was on a Tuesday I remember that because they had Taco Buffet. I was surprised on the rice. They did make the rice perfect. Then there is not only the lunch was nice but there is a lunch club. I looked over the menu to see what they have besides the buffet. Dave is the day manager , he came over and asked us how we enjoyed the lunch. I did notice we were not the only table he but he made the rounds to every table in the dining area. The wait staff was on the ball. They noticed when you are low on your beverage they are right there. The cooks over see the buffet making sure that all the items were full, right temperature. Overall Avenue Pub and Grill staff works as a team making sure your dining experiences is perfect. If you sign up to receive the email on specials. What will be on buffet. Then if you give them you month and date of your birthday you will get a email for a complementary lunch. Overall great experience in dining. When you go in there during the day say hello to Dave.

My co-workers and I stop by pretty frequently because it's so close to our office. We only go there for lunch since dinner is sort of ridiculous in price and not big on the flavor. On Tuesdays they have a taco buffet, on Wednesdays it's usually a soul food type buffet, on Thursdays it's a pasta buffet and on Fridays, we have fish fry. The food is mostly good - you may need to adjust it for flavor here and there with salt, etc. The staff is okay, very hands off for the buffet, and sometimes very attentive - it's a hit or miss. They do give you the delicious double tree cookie at the end of the meal, which is nice. Yeah, it's a buffet, but servers still live off of tips, so tip yer waiter, ya?

Seems to be a decent restaurant, especially the in-house restaurant for the DoubleTree hotel in downtown Milwaukee. Wait staff seems to be fairly attentive to serve you, explained to me the 'process' of getting your own food (its a buffet), some juices on the side counter, and the server will come around for coffee and other items. My server came by fairly quickly for coffee and got me a nice potful. The cooks got out the breakfast items and checked if all is well stocked. All personnel seemed like decent folks. I had breakfast: fresh fruit was good, cottage cheese is fairly bland like it should be, and good choices on protein: bacon, sausage. Scrambled eggs (plain and Denver-style) was good. Pancakes, bagels and breads are available on fair abundance. Well stocked choices. About a month back, had room service from this restaurant, and had a steak dinner, with peppercorns and veggies - a little cooler than I wanted but was still delicious. Keep in mind that this restaurant closes at 10 pm, and the DoubleTree mentions it closes at 11pm - an error or an update needed for DoubleTree documentation. Otherwise a very competent establishment and will come back when in the hotel or area.

Middle of the road, exactly what you might expect for a bar and restaurant in a hotel in a big city. Breakfast buffet for Doubletree guests (though I suppose someone could walk in if they wanted to) includes the usual scrambled eggs, meats, yogurts, breads and fruits. The wait staff seemed pretty capable but didn't interact - I guess that's the buffet thing. I noticed that most folks weren't leav ing tips. In the evening, the bar does seem busy with hotel guests having a drink or two - not many folks were eating. We tried the seared tuna as an appetizer and found it boring and lacking in flavor. Would I return? Sure. If I was staying in the hotel and they have me a coupon and it was pouring down with rain.

This was nice and close to our hotel, the Hilton. There were 5 of us and we got seated right away. Someone came over with menus to let us decide between the buffet or ordering off the menu. After previewing the buffet, we all chose the buffet option. They had fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, 2 different kinds of scrambled eggs, french toast and biscuits and gravy. They also had a toast, bagels, donuts and a juice station. Between all of us, I think we tried almost everything. Everything was pretty good. The biscuits were nice and fluffy and the sausage gravy was flavorful and better than average. The bacon was cooked well and not too crunchy and not too soggy. I enjoyed the fact that the orange juice was not pulpy. The staff was friendly and helpful and we didn't have to wait long to get our bill. Very reasonably priced, I would definitely come back.

Though STILL a great place to unwind & socialize. But the minus was those cheese curds, One of them was actually cold (semi-frozen). The French Onion soup was rather bland too. However, The Garlic Shrimp & Pasta was rather delicious. And the Hummus was another great start.

Crazy reviews, I've had nothing but top notch service here. The bar manager Jon even remember me from the last visit which was five months back. I know hotel bars are kind of cheesy (which the whole look of the place is completely) but this is actually worth a stop in even if you're not staying at the DoubleTree. It's not fancy but it is exactly what you need. Both bartenders are quick with the drinks and friendly. We actually chatted with Jon for awhile both times. The kitchen was closed and we talked about being hungry, so Jon went back and made us a hummus plate. Not something that was just thrown on a plate either, it was fresh and arranged. I have to give them 5 stars for that. I'm sure I'll be back.

The Avenue Bar and Grill is an average restaurant & lounge of a typical mid-range hotel. As a bar it was actually a little subpar; the bartender ignored my fiancee and I for most of the night and the signature cocktails were high on sugar and low on alcohol. As a breakfast buffet it was actually one of the better typical hotel buffets I've been to. They had a lot of options, from biscuits & gravy to "southwestern style" eggs to pancakes, and the bacon was always piled high. What more can you say? Thank you for providing sustenance to me, Avenue Bar and Grill.

We were a party of 4 eating around 7:30 pm on a Saturday and the place seemed empty. We opted to sit in the bar, but I don't think we would have had to wait for a seat if we stayed in the dining room. Once the hostess of the dining room heard we wanted to sit in the bar she abandoned us, pointing to the bar stating "They have the same menu." We sat ourselves, menu-less, and waited for approximately 10-15 minutes before someone approached our table. It was only until I asked a server, who was clearly on her break, for menus that we were waited on. The chicken fingers and waffle fries were good, but the poor service would send me elsewhere before I return. The restaurant get's points for serving Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. My wife had a burger that was unremarkable. The other two people in our party weren't very impressed with there meals either. One with a dry Reuben, the other with chicken fingers. The Avenue was a convenient, as we were staying at the attached DoubleTree hotel and were able to charge the bill to our room.

The Avenue is a common destination of the downtown lunch crowd for its buffets. Comfort food, pasta, tacos, wraps, potato bar...there are usually a few entree items and a salad, and it's a pretty good deal for getting a sit-down meal. The service is very attentive, and the staff quickly gets to know and take care of the regulars.
