We have been going to this place for years and Love it!!! Do not let the building or lack of décor stop you from trying this restaurant. The friendly service, the reasonable prices and the great food are what keep us coming back for more. The lunch buffet is a great way to introduce yourself to some of their dishes and there is something for everyone. Because we have children (ages 5 and 9) we prefer the buffet as everyone is satisfied when they leave. We Love this place!!

Ordered food from here. It tasted so bland. I can cook better food than this place. Never going back.

I usually just get take out here. The food is delicious and when you order take out they make sure you have everything, including dessert.

Delicious takeout! Loved the tikka masala. Entrees cost a little more than I'd expect from an older West Allis restaurant, but you get good portions for the price.

This is the best Indian food I've ever had and the staff are extremely nice. Don't let the scary exterior fool you!

The buffet is small, but has good stuff. The goat curry while tasty, has a lot of bones. You won't look particularly attractive having to pull bones out of your mouth on a date. I found both the chicken masala (??) and the tandoori chicken to be pretty dry, but my date didn't think so. Service ***** Food *** It was a decent little Indian buffet, but I have had much better.

Whenever my husband and I have a craving for Indian food, this is the place we call. We have always ordered takeout from Tandoor (and thus can't quite attest to the decor). We've never had an issue with our order taking a long time (it's consistently ready for pick-up within 10-15 min), and our food is always hot (temperature-wise), fresh, and correct. They have also included a little dessert each time we've ordered, at no extra charge, which I find to be a nice touch. Portions are appropriate as well (my husband and I can order 2-3 entrees and have leftovers the next day) As another poster mentioned, their medium is pretty spicy, but not enough to ruin the food (just be prepared for a little kick). Their samosas, chicken tikka masala, and saag paneer are very tasty.

I'm still fairly new to Indian food so it was perfect for me to go during lunch for their Buffet. Everything I had was delicious. There was an excellent variety of new things to try but also the traditional indian dishes which most people recognize (samosas, chicken masala, palak paneer, etc). To date, this is my favorite place to go to in the Milwaukee area. The restaurant itself is quite plain, nothing special but it serves its purpose. I wouldn't recommend this for a nice date night but more of a casual dining experience when you're craving some good Indian food.

Having never really had Indian food, I let a girlfriend talk me into getting takeout from here last night. And since I'm currently devouring my leftover chicken vindaloo, I figured I'd review this place. The decor is a bit scary--it looks very dark and plain--but the smell when I walked in was absolutely mouth-watering. We called in our order and the lady at the front was prompt in taking my payment and handing us our food, which was ready and waiting. Everything was piping hot and fresh, even after the drive home, and none of us had any complaints about our food. My vindaloo has just enough spice to be interesting (I'm a wimp when it comes to heat) and the naan was delish. I'm definitely going to come back here to try out the buffet and scope out some new dishes.

My favorite Indian restaurant in Milwaukee. Perhaps not the fanciest, but the dishes are well prepared. I often see Indian folks eating here and that tells me the food is good. I like the lamb sagwala and keema nan. I've had other excellent dishes here but I like what I like.

We went here all the time - but never did the buffet. We know what we like, and they've recommended some good ones to us too. Whenever we craved Indian and didn't want to go far, this is where we headed to. Ownership changed about a year ago, but they've kept the same staff and pretty much the same menu. Our faves: Paneer shahi korma Chicken tikka masala: cubed chicken Chicken mughlani: similar to tikka masala but shredded chicken instead Goat curry Onion and Garlic Naan Mango Rose Water Mango Lassi My husband loves the flat cracker (popadums?) with 3 sauces/chutneys that comes out in the beginning too. I wouldn't say it's the best Indian food I've ever had, but if you're craving Indian in west MKE, I say it's worth a try. Just don't judge it buy its dark/bland decor.

It had been a while since our last vist here. Tonight we ordered Nan, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Mango Lassi. It was all quite wonderful. I'm already looking forward to our next meal there.

The tandoori chicken tikka was just color with no spice/marination. It seemed to be cooked in the oven from the lack of smokiness and charring that is evident from cooking in a real tandoor. The chapatis were good and so was the lassi.

This place has wonderful food. My only critique is that sometimes "medium" spicy is a little spicier than I expect. We have only eaten at the restaurant once - it's not much on atmosphere - but the employees are really nice. I'll take Tandoor over Bombay Sweets any day.

Thanks to other Yelpers for the reviews leading me to Tandoor. As mentioned, the decor is bland, but the food more than makes up for it! The complementary popadums are served with a red onion chutney that I wanted to slather on everything. I ordered samosas, and the three goodly sized samosas brought to me were sealed in a crisp and flaky crust, reminiscent of really tasty pot pie crusts. For my entree, I had the saag paneer, with a side of made-to-order naan. I am a big eater, meaning that I usually can find the bottom of my plate and my wife's too, but the entree and its lovely basmati rice were the winners of that round. I went alone as I was traveling for work, but if you ar going as a couple, I suggest ordering an appetizer and splitting an entree -- but get the naan. Num-num-num-aste.

I went for Buffet lunch at Tandoor today after reading the rave reviews. Being a North Indian, I think I've the authority to determine whether an Indian restaurant is serving authentic (or near authentic) Indian Food. Given the fact above, Tandoor is definitely not even near the good Indian Stuff (they primarily serve North Indian menu) and coming from NYC, I would say that the food as as good as the worst Indian food you can get in NYC (even in NYC, you have to hunt for the better Indian restaurants) Here's the true verdict: Tandori Chicken: Undercooked, flavorless - Worthless! Chicken Kabab: It wasn't even a kabab. I don't know what the hell it was and how can they even call it kabab. Goat Curry: The only thing, I can say I liked on the whole buffet. Goat was soft & tender & curry was OK. Dal: OK Veg. Biryani: OK Chicken Tikka Masala: Not even close to teh real deal - Worthless! chicken was clearly not fresh. (same goes for Tandoori Chicken) Pakora (Indian veggie fritters): were kinda good with chutneys & pickled onions Kheer (Rice pudding) : was good Masala Tea: I liked - close to real North Indian chai. I'm giving them 2** for the variety & that I liked the options of Green Salad, chick Peas salad, Raita (Yogurt based), pickeled onions & green and red chutneys. Verdict: $10 wasted! This is the first Indian restaurant I've been to, since I moved to MKE (a few days ago) and if this is the best restaurant (per the reviews) - I'm never going to eat at any Indian restaurant in MKE region. Period!

The foods good but the staff is not friendly and seem to not know what they are doing.

I went there on a Saturday evening and for a moment I was put off by the shabby appearance of the building. Inside the decoration and ambiance or lack thereof was not surprising. I was quickly seated, only one other couple was dining. The service was efficient but without typical American traits of smiles and chatter. While I'm not an expert on Indian food I found the tikka masala among the better ones I had and the naan was delicious. Overall I have to say I can recommend this place because in the areas that count they delivered without fuss but It's not the place for a romantic dinner.

Have gotten takeout from here twice- I haven't had a lot of indian food in Milwaukee, and while I know a bit about indian food, I am by no means an expert. So while I can't speak of how it compares to other area restaurants, or it's authenticity, I can vouch for the fact that it's delicious and satisfying. The lentil soup is really good, as is the lamb curry in tomato sauce. Also good, but not quite on the same level as the previous dishes- the panner and pea curry and the veggie soup. I wouldn't order the bean and lentil curry again- flavors just aren' t as exciting as other dishes, and the potato and pea samosas- they were okay, but there are so many interesting things on the menu to try. I can't wait to try some of the different stuffed breads, and all of there veggie curries. Hubby loves everything- but then again, he loves all food.

I like to pride myself on the fact that I have eaten at all of Milwaukee's Indian restaurants and Tandoor is definitely my favorite. Many other restaurants have a much more inviting interior, but as far as the quality of food goes, Tandoor is the best. If they took it upon themselves to spruce up the inside they could quickly become more popular I believe. I'm a sucker for good chicken tikka masala and Tandoor has THE best there is in Milwaukee. Tandoor's chicken tikka masala has a look that I haven't found anywhere else in Milwaukee. The sauce is thicker and more flavorful and if you ask for it to be spicy, they are right on it. All of the other Indian restaurants I have eaten at don't live up to their spice scale. If you want a great treat, or if you are new to indian cuisine and need to test it out at someplace, please choose Tandoor.

Amazing selection for a buffet, so much to try! Even the sweets selection was epic. Delicious!

Is it fancy? No, in fact the ambiance is pretty cafeteria lame. But you will be hard-pressed to beat the delicious food served at this treasure of a strip mall restaurant. The lunch buffet (served daily) is a particular value, since it's all you can eat. Come hungry!

Love the buffet. Also love that they'll still make me my Shahi Paneer even though they no longer have it in the menu. Great prices. The newer wait staff is a little too friendly so I don't go as much as I used to. Definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Milwaukee.

Really good Indian food at reasonable prices. When I try a new restaurant, I always like to order my favorite dishes for that type of restaurant so I can get a good baseline for the quality of the food. For an Indian restaurant, those dishes are chicken tikka masala and chicken curry. I ordered these dishes and the garlic naan for takeout. Every item was really good and had a good blend of flavors. Tandoor makes these dishes almost exactly how I'd like them to taste. The meals were around $10-12 each and they are well worth it. The portion sizes are pretty good too. Since they make my favorite dishes so well, I think they probably have some other dynamite meals that are hiding on the menu. I look forward to going back so I can discover these hidden gems.

Today's work lunch was tandoor. It was carry out so I can't speak of the service or physical restraunt. Over all every one liked the food. We all had something different. The non vegetarian platter with 4 fish, 4 chicken and 4 sausage looking thing looked interesting. I had the lamb vegetable in hot curry sauce with basmati rice. The rice was that nice individual firm grain and not clumpy or mushy which I like. The lamb vegetable curry was good and hot. My eyes watered but I didn't head sweat like other hot stuff. My only complaint is that the vegetables were over cooked and mushy. If the veges were some what crisp like some Chinese restraunts do this would get four stars. The lamb ratio to veges was good and they didn't fluff the dish with mostly veges. A Chicago cheff that is my friends father turned me on to curry many moons ago blows this away but he is retired and there isn't a lot of curry dishes on most menues so this was nice. Some Chinese places have Singapore noodles which scratches my itch from time to time for a curry fix but it's not meaty. The dish cost $12.95 and was piping hot when it got to me. I would like to sample more of the menu because I like to eat different things. The last time I had Indian food was in Chicago on touhy ave a long time ago and it seemed more authentic but I'm no expert on Indian food so maby I have to try other Milwaukee Indian places and offer reviews. You can view the menu on line at tandoorrestaurantmilwauk… and the have some news paper clippings to read.

We had the lunch buffet last week, every item was excellent and the price was reasonable. the atmosphere is not awesome, but the food totally negates that, service was good for the buffet, waters were always full and dirty plates collected quickly. We'll have to try dinner some night as well.

This is my favorite Indian Buffet. I have been to the restaurant for dinner, and the food quality is the same on the buffet as the dinner menu. My suggestion is save some money, and stick to the lunch buffet. The food is fantastic and it's a great place for a quick bite.

Super super yummy! Not only are the curries amazing, but you get plenty of other snacks to go with your meal, such as bread and 3 different chutneys. Although a little pricey, you will definitely have leftovers for the next day. I suggest the mango chicken. It's to die for of you like your dinner a lil sweet.

Last night we ordered from here or the first time. I had the chicken tandoori and it was excellent. Not too spicy and tons of chicken! This will definitely be a spot my wife and I will be visiting frequently.
