I need to preface this as a white male who grew up in MA and WI that my exposure to Korean food has been very small. Sometimes I have trouble simply spelling the word "Korean" and my knowledge of their food outside of kimchi was minimal. I ventured to this place with an open mind, eager to try whatever they put in front of me. I started with the dumplings because OMG DUMPLINGS. I love dumplings. If I'm ever on death row and they give my felonious ass a last meal, dumplings all around. These were definitely "last meal" worthy. The dipping sauce was so good that I wanted to drink it when my dinnermates weren't looking. I then ordered the pork belly appetizer as well because I'm fat. This dish came with a sweet dipping sauce, a spice bean paste and a small sample of kimchi. This pig died for a worthy cause. I recommend this dish if you like pork fat and if you don't like pork fat then I don't want to know you. My entree was the Janyook (spicy pork). (NOTE: I am definitely that guy who tries to prounce the ethnic version of the dish and then butcher the pronounciation so bad that I bail half way through and just blurt out the English verison). Anyway, the pork was cooked in a spicy sauce along with some vegetables and served with a side of rice. I would order this again without complaint. We also got a side dish of radish kimchi which was fantastic. As another reviewer said, they don't seem to stagger the appetizers and entrees so all the dishes came out more or less at once. This could annoy some people but not me because then it's like a personal buffet and who doesn't like a buffet? Also, they served us a very out of place potato salad because I think they figure we're fat Americans (WE ARE). I did not try this because fuck mayonnaise but to each their own. Long story long, I will be back for sure. For MKE Korean food I think you'll like this just fine.

Took my wife here today and it was horrible. First I grew up on Korean food, I love it my wife lives it. When we first walled in we were not greeted by a hostess didn't know where to go so we just kind of stupid there until some one walked up to us. One they did we were lied to about them being pack when we could clearly see open tables, the lady say they were reserved but when she saw that we weren't going anywhere she said she would find us a table in the back, and walked us around the small restaurant and say us two tables away from where we were standing. We order our food and it was all flavorless and had no meat. I ordered the bulgogi (if it is even spelled right) and it was 98% veggies. For those who don't know it's a dish about meat! It's not a stir fry! What little meat I did have was nasty and flavorless! Their mondoos are just store bought pot stickers. Long story short never going back and I wouldn't waste my time it money there if I were you!

Outstanding short ribs and spicy squid. Attentive service. Well appointed dining room - small issue had a unwanted fly join us - got to be annoying, even the wait staff commented. Definitely coming back.

The only thing this place succeeds in doing using above-average presentation to sell bad Korean food. I ordered the squid bibimbap while my friend ordered a regular one and after trying both I was immediately amazed beyond imagination on how a bland bibimbap can be made by anyone. There are so many elements in bibimbap to make it flavorful and it fails on every single level resulting in a homogenized red bland pile without any exciting accents or burst of flavors. The exact opposite of what bibimbap should do. Our course came with a somewhat bitter instant miso soup which confused me because miso soup is strictly Japanese and a real Korean restaurant would always opt to serve one of their many many simple soups available in the minds of any competent Korean chef ie. soups such as raddish stock soup. The Banchan appetizers were (as other reviewers have noted) very poorly marinated and relatively flavorless. I recieved kimchi as well with the braised pork belly I ordered which was actually ok, but the sauces for it were very poorly mixed. Anyways, they messed up kimchi. Instead of the sort of sweet/savory/sour, earthy yet fresh taste one usually expects of kimchi, you get a very dry, dead tasting sliced cabbage salad dish with nothing besides a little red pepper powder to cover up the "rot" taste. I don't know if the idea of a Korean restaurant messing up bibimbap and kimchi is a big deal to anyone, but I think it should be kiiiiinda a big deal. They also are missing samgyeopsal on their menu..which is the most eaten dish in all of Korea. Another big deal. For desert they offer store bought mochi ice cream needlessly dressed in chocolate and strawberry syrup to pathetically mimic haute cuisine by adding elements the mochi definitely did not need. I know these are store bought because the restaurant I work at used the same ones. Overall, just stay away from this place until they up their terrible game, everything is underseasoned and misses the mark completely when it comes to good korean flavors. If you think this restaurant is good, blow your mind by going to Seoul's which has it's own shortcomings but at least knows how to cook indulgent Korean food. For good bibimbap in Milwaukee, Simple Cafe's korean BBQ bowl is actually surprisingly wonderful and miles ahead of any korean bibimbap this place tries to serve.

First time at Stone Bowl, so I tried the Bibimbop (with beef). Delicious, with a side of Korean hot sauce to bring it up to your desired spice level, and topped with a fried egg. Great texture, ranging from fried rice soft, to really crispy and delicious next to the raging hot stone bowl in which it is cooked. Definitely worth a return trip. Also had a ginger lemonade drink that was really tasty, with a slight sweetness balancing the heat of the ginger and the tartness of the lemon very nicely.

We were on our way to Comet. It was a Tuesday night and then, the guy standing outside let us know Comet was closed for a special party. Veggie husband and I looked at each, in the throes of hunger and made the quick decision to go across the street to Stone Bowl simply because it was open. Soooooo glad we did! The food was good (not great, not fantastic, but good) and I would definitely head back to try other things. We closed the place down, but they didn't rush us out or anything, just waited for us to finish our meal. It was the best bibimbop the city has to offer (Milwaukee doesn't really have bibimbop, so take that with a grain of salt).

I came here on a Tuesday night with my dad for some Korean food. This place has only been open for five days, but I can already see it becoming a must-go restaurant in Milwaukee! We started our evening with the squid pancake. Delicious! My dad couldn't stop making yummy sounds as he ate. For entrees, ee both had dol sot, or bibimpop in a heated stone bowl. I had squid, and my dad had beef. We couldn't have planned a better night out on a cold November evening. In addition to the food, the interior is calming, sophisticated, and perfectly amenable to dining. If you're in Milwaukee for a visit, or if you live in or around town, you'll will not find a better Korean-styled restaurant than Stone Bowl Grill!!

It was last Friday which was on 21th of March. My boyfriend and I was traveling state to state. We were very excited that it was our first time in Wisconsin and the first restaurant. We love Korean food. First, it started very nice that the restaurant looked good, so the service and food. My boyfriend ordered kalbi, I ordered kimchigeage. It was very delicious I ate half of it. BUT THE DISCUSSTING MOMENT EVER IN MY LIFE WAS THERE WAS "BUG" IN MY SOUP. WHAT THE HECK???????? I still can't believe, I was so shocked, I called the server she was standing next to the table that I was sittin and keep saying "sorry", nothing else. The manager still wasn't here. She finally comes out and was saying that their kitchen is very clean and wanted to show us. Of course not, I m not look for another discussting "BUG"!!. I couldn't say anything because I couldn't get out of shock. I thought this was the #1 restaurant but NOOOOO. I told the manager too that I work in a restaurant too that's y I am not gonna call for anything and we just left. I didn't want to yell in the restaurant about there was "BUG" in my food!. My boyfriend also told them they were lucky that day. Again this was the HORRIBLE, DISCUSTING EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE EVER. NEVER COMING BACK! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Pls don't fool urself seeing their nice decorated restaurant and the nice smiling lady!!!

Not a traditional Korean restaurant... Servers are very friendly. Food is alright.. Good place for lunch but not recommended if you are looking for traditional Korean food with awesome side dishes.

We have been three times for lunch now. Food is great! I love the spicy pork box. If I could give the service 6* I would. Staff is great!!! Yet another great Asian option on the east side.

Have no problem with the service. I actually like the bell thing, but my big gripe is with the price. When I go to the other Korean restaurant in town or other Asian restaurants they don't skimp me on rice. However, here I paid $18 for beef ribs with a tiny side of rice. They then charged me $2 for a refill! Their ramen, however, is very well priced. This is a young restaurant that will get better with time as long as they listen to their customers. My girlfriend brought home a few leftover chicken wings for me the other day. Best Chicken wings in Milwaukee though they were $14! Look forward to coming here in the future as long as they make the necessary changes. 5-star restaurant waiting to happen!

Was there last Saturday for lunch. I had kogi beef bibimbop & it was dry & tasteless. My daughter had the saewoo spicy shrimp which was good but the portion was very small with just a few shrimp. One thing that really turned me off was that we were there about 1:00 for lunch but were charged a dinner price & were told that on weekends there are no lunch prices only dinner prices. I'd like to know why that wasn't mentioned somewhere on the menu. Nothing like finding this out after our meal. No way to run a restaurant & for sure won't be back.

Delicious. It is great to have a decent Korean Restaurant around. We sampled the Bulgolgi, Spicy Chicken, and Jap Chae. We had a nice assortment of pickles. Our a server Vic was the best, so helpful with the menu and extremely attentive. Will go back again.

    Atmosphere matched the cuisine, k-pop at the bar. Not seated until 30 minutes passed The reservation. Service was friendly and efficient. But the food was disappointing. Ribs were dry, small and not well seasoned. No side dish for 18 bucks. Beef stone bowl was again not seasoned, added so much soy and chili to make it taste like salt and the rice was a gluey mess. Best dish was kimchi cheese stone bowl, tasted like a Korean lasagna, but 13 for rice and fermented cabbage. But added tons of extra kimchi and chili paste. Overall, over-priced for food I wouldn't eat again. }

The interior of the restaurant is nice as well as the servers. The food was good but not the best. My boyfriend and I ordered two entrees and only three banchan came with it. We're supposed to have six cuz one entree comes with three but that's ok cuz it was only the two of us. Normally when I go to Korean restaurants, I'm used to having 5-6 side dishes without ordering entrees... they just come with your meal. If you're in a group make sure you get what you ordered because they will charge you full price for the entrees even if you didn't get your banchan. The banchan was a bit bland and was not marinated well. I had the kalbi and my boyfriend had the bulgolgi. They were good but like the banchan, it was not marinated well. Thinking back, I wished I asked for lettuce, garlic and dipping sauce for the kalbi and bulgolgi. We also had the kimchi chi gae which was pretty good. I thought it could be more spicy but that's just my preference. I had their honey citrus tea and it was pretty damn good. It had slices of orange and pine nuts in the tea. I would go again but maybe for lunch next time.

4 stars only because I think some are a little over priced, and that they don't give enough side dishes. I have been there twice now. First time was with a friend when it first opened on a sunday around 3pm. There were maybe another 2 tables with people only. Food was good, had Kim chi jjigae& bibimbap in the stone bowl. Good service, very attentive and friendly. The owner came out and greeted us as well and thanked us for trying it out. Second time was on a Friday night around 730. The place was packed, we waited for maybe 5 min before they had a table for us. Again, good service and great food. Kim chi fried rice was really good! Also enjoyed kalbi, bulgogi, japchae. What I like most is the authentic feel. They greet and say goodbye/thank you in Korean and they have kpop playing while also showing either k dramas with subtitles or music videos. I absolutely hate it when walking into an Asian restaurant and they have the radio with American Music on.

I really enjoyed stone bowl, very unique place, for Milwaukee. I like the location, pretty busy but there is ample parking, if you are willing to walk a block or two. I had the beef stone bowl, there was a good portion of food, but not enough meat for me. Plenty of rice though. Flavor was off the charts, would have given 5 star if there was more beef in the dish. Price is just north of justifiable, but I know rent must be high. All and all, if you haven't been here, you gotta try it out. Next time I'll order off the chef special or not a bowl. Seeing all the other dishes made my mouth water.

I've been here close to a dozen times now, and every time is different. Some are good, some are bad. The food overall is pretty solid, sundubu almost as good as BCD tofu house. Bibimbap is always a good pick. But the one thing that really irked me this time is the kimchi. It tasted like it took a shower in a tub of water. It just tasted like old cabbage. I really hope they up their side dish game, because right now it's really lacking.

I want to like this place. In fact, I want to love it. But unfortunately, I can't. We came in on a Sunday night. We were seated at a dirty table. Yuck. It took our server close to ten minutes to get to us. FAIL. Did I mention it was a Sunday? They weren't busy. It took forever to get our drinks. And even longer for our food. I ordered the spicy seafood ramen. It was highly lacking any and all seafood. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR PICTURES ON INSTAGRAM LIKE I DID. THE FOOD IS NOTHING LIKE THOSE PICTURES. I CALL SHANNANIGANS ON THAT!! I Love Kan Pai. ( sister store ) but this just missed the mark. I believe in 2nd chances. I'll try again. ..

Spicy Ramen = really spicy and delicious. I want to drink the broth. I appreciate that it actually is spicy. And you can't get it non-spicy. It is what it is. Now that I've fallen in love with the ramen, I want to go back and try everything else, since it also looks good. But I don't know if I'll be able to say no to the Ramen. It's quite the catch-22. Ramen Ramen Ramen Ramen Ramen Ramen.

Pretty good and authentic as it gets for Milwaukee. Better than the other ones we went to. They even had Korean beer and soju. Very highly recommended

This place is still great but the reason for the one star drop is that 1. service is often awkward/weird and 2. the prices. Other than that, it's pretty solid Korean food! Korean food - especially the more casual dishes like the ddukboki - shouldn't be so expensive for the portions they are dishing out. For example, an extra $3 for half a block of ramen added to your ddukboki? No. Or $16 for budae jigae? Hail no. Keep in mind budae jigae is a stew with cheap ingredients like ramen and sausage/spam. Would I still order these? Sure, because it's only one of two real options I have in this city. As for the service, it's mostly friendly, a little eager if anything, but there have been some odd moments. For example, my friends dishes all came out first, which was fine and told my friends to go ahead and eat. I patiently wait but each minute feels like a lifetime. After a painfully long wait, she comes by with my dish in hand and just holds it in the air and says "aw you look so sad without your food." ARE YOU KIDDING? Look lady, set the food down and walk away before I bite your arm off. It seemed like she wanted to get some kind of reaction out of me or maybe she was trying to be funny, but I just wasn't in the mood. Anyways - I'd still recommend this place. There are some appropriately priced and tasty dishes like their soondubu (soft tofu stew) or naengmyun (buckwheat noodles in a spicy sauce). I also really enjoyed their new Chef Specials, particuarly the Osam bulgogi, which is spicy pork and squid cooked at your table. It comes with some lettuce wraps and they finish it off with rice/egg/toppings to make a fried rice with the leftover sauce. It's a little pricey at $27 but it's easily sharable for two so it's totally worth it. I'll be back for sure - partly because it's yummy and partly because I have no other options. Hah.

This was the second time I ate here. I like the food but the portions need some work, especially for the price. If they increased the portion sizes for their entrees I think it would be an awesome spot. The beef short ribs were $18. A bit steep considering there is a bone in the middle and you're not getting that much meat. The flavor was there, though. None of the dishes were lacking in flavor. The dukbokki is something you should try. The fat rice noodles soak up all the sauce and it makes for a unique dish. The kimchi soup was also really delicious and the pork belly in it melts in your mouth. Add ramen to the soup for a few extra dollars, makes it even better. The kimchi here is very flavorful and they always have different varieties. Tonight we had cucumber kimchi, it was great. Last time we had scallion kimchi and they also included a traditional version made with cabbage. I like how they bring out small side dishes for you to sample. I would like to see more seafood options on the menu. Curious to know how Koreans enjoy their seafood. Would also like to see a slightly larger menu. It's good that the menu is small because then they can focus more on making a few dishes great. The food here is great, just wish they included slightly larger portions. Service could be better, but if the food is good I could care less about service. Last time our waiter took shots of soju with us! It was awesome and made me feel welcomed. The shots were on the house too! Overall it's a good restaurant and I will continue to eat here.

Delicious food! I highly recommend this Korean restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy some Korean dishes. I love their honey ginger tea! Recommended dishes (will post up photos); -Beef Kalbi -Santeed Pork belly (forgot what the dish was called). -stir fried udon noodles with combination of beef and seafood. Oh yes! Don't forget the side dishes and the fried mandu appetizers as well.

The place: way nicer than I expected based on the appearance from the curb. Crisp, clean, modern feel. Seems like it'd be a nice date night place. Service was great. The taste: a tofu hot stone bowl was brought to the table still sizzling and crackling.. Because it was still cooking. I added some hot sauce and per their recommendation stirred it all up to get mouthfuls of flavorful veggies, rice, eggs and tofu. The bulgogi was a tad sweet but still tasted pretty delicious. My face: glad that the hubs bought me a taro smoothie with boba for a bday treat. Brunch/lunch for 2 with 2 smoothies for $5.45 each came out to just over $30. I'd call this face pleasantly surprised. Also a really good backup for when the wait at Comet Cafe is just a little too long.

Seafood pancake was good. We ordered shabushabu too and the meat was apparently not fresh. Don't order it. Asked the server and he said their meat are all super fresh.

Stone Bowl is a new-age Korean restaurant. From their modern decor to the K-Pop blasting through their speakers, it feels identical to the newer restaurants I went to in South Korea. That being said, their food is not entirely "traditional" Korean cuisine. However, given the opportunity, I'd eat their O~jinguh Dolsot (Hot Stone) Bibimbop every day for the rest of my life. I've eaten at Stone Bowl multiple of times, from their quiet afternoons to their jam-packed dinner rushes, and there's a reason why I keep coming back. In every instance, I've received nothing but good food and great service. Obviously, my favorite is the O~jinguh Dolsot Bibimbop. I've ordered this plenty of times, and the quality remains consistent. Texturally, the combination of the rice, vegetables, and squid is satisfying. Flavor-wise? It's like an explosion in my mouth. It's spicy without being overpowering, and has a unique tang that I can't really place. The red sauce is already mixed in, but the servers would always give me extra on the side. I highly recommend ordering this inside the Stone Bowl because Stone Bowls take longer to cool, meaning you'll have a pipping hot meal throughout your stay. The Dak Gang Jung Chicken is recommended for those not in the mood for bibimbop. I enjoyed them because they're a fusion between orange chicken and hot wings. The Meat Mandoo is great, as well. The shell is crispy, while the filling is both juicy and succulent. A napkin is a must if you're ever biting into one of these, or else you'll have meat juices drizzling down your chin. The only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars is because their banchan (side dishes) do change every so often. I understand they want to change up the meal but their banchan can either be good or disastrous. Nonetheless, if you ever get the mashed potato salad as your banchan, you're in for a real treat. Overall, I really like Stone Bowl. It's now one of my go-to places in Milwaukee. If you have a hankering for some delicious bibimbop or dumplings that oozes savory goodness, give this place a shot. It's officially Korean-Approved.

I really really really wanted to love this place. The Korean food scene in Milwaukee is minimal at best. Aside from the food being a disappointment, we waited forever to be seated and even longer for a server to even greet us. Would not consider this authentic Korean by any means. The only perk is that they have Soju. Hoping to give Stone Bowl and third and final chance in the next couple of months.

I was here with my friends the other day for dinner, and overall the experience was incredible. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food was also incredible. I didn't have a lot to go off of, other than my native Korea friends; because I had never tried Korean food before. My only complaint was that the "Spicy" food wasn't very spicy, but other than that it was all cooked just right!

This was our first time trying Korean food, and it was delicious! Very reasonably priced for LARGE shareable portions. I am writing this a few weeks after we went, so I don't remember the name of everything, but our appetizer was delicious! We hen got a seafood stone bowl which was very good.. And interesting. There was a whole squid in it, which was a little unsettling for me, but it's just because I'm not used to that. Then ordered strawberry mochi for dessert which was delicious!! Overall, very pleased and would definitely return and recommend to others.

I ended up in Stone Bowl Grill by a chance, I was looking for resturants that serve Ramen soup, this place came up on the search results. I went there to try the spicy Ramen and boy oh boy It was the best spicy Ramen soup I have ever had! Since going there for the first time I have returned to the place nomerous times and it never disappointed, the dishes are good and unique, service is good overall and with every meal you get small appetizers which are really good. Definitely stop by if you like Spicy Ramen and other dishes Noodles based.

The food was really good, Came fast and delicious. I have had many meals in Korea and the restaurant seemed to be mellowing the Korean taste to put a American Taist to the meal, being in Milwaukee I can not blame the owner for this. The only other issue I have is that the Korean national food kimichi does not even come as a side dish and is up charged for $1.00. They do appear be family friendly but since everything is up charged and there are no child sizes served the meal will set you back three digets for a family of five with two sides orders Love the place and the urban kpop on the TV but the price is an issue with kids to make it regular stop.

4 stars for Milwaukee...only because it is the best Korean in Milwaukee (out of the 2...haha) All the dishes were decent and they give those delectable small side dishes. Slightly sad part...they charge for kimchee but our waiter was nice and brought us some on the house. In fact, our waiter was a little too overly friendly...kept checking on how we were doing every 5 min. Caution: If you have had Korean food on the West Coast...this place will probably be a 3 star for you.

Every time I've been here the service has been excellent and the food delicious. The ambience is wonderful and the place is so clean and neat. It's trendy and atmospheric. You absolutely can't go wrong with the stone bowls. I had the bulgogi this time and it was exceptional. Try the Jap Cha if you don't know where to start with Korean food. Mandoo is always a classic appetizer too. We've liked everything we've ever ordered from here.

Was greatly satisfied with this food! We are from Kenosha so it is hard to find a real Korean restaurant around the area. We tried many of the foods including the hot stone pot o-sam bulgogi. It was very nicely presented and just the right amount to feed a family of four! They offered to bring us more food but we simply couldn't finish it all we decided to pack it. The drive here was well worth it. Definitely coming back and bringing more people!!

FANTASTIC!!! Let me start by mentioning this was my first Korean dining experience. I've read reviews of Korean restaurants here on Yelp but had not experienced it until last night. We arrived 6:30, and there were a few other diners. We were greeted and seated right away, there were only a few other tables of diners at the time of our arrival. The interior was *SO* cute - I loved the lanterns and the posters and the bamboo décor. Our waitress, Maria, was a jewel. I had a few questions as I had never had Korean before but I knew that I wanted to try the barbeque. She recommended the Bulgogi (beef marinade in an Asian Pear Soy sausce; $13.95). My fiancée ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice with beef. We also ordered the hot sake ($9.00). The sake and miso soup came out right away. The Ozeki hot sake - which I fully understand why it's "hot" but it was so cold outside that I wanted something warm with a kick! totally worth the $ - was likely the best I have had. It was smooth with a light fruity taste, not too overpowering, and lacking the ethanol kick that one generally experiences with REALLY cheap sake. The miso soup was good, especially with the snow falling outside, but not as flavorful as I've had at Japanese restaurants. Our side dishes came out as soon as I finished my soup. That evening they were offering a chilled potato salad, bean sprout salad, and kimchi cucumbers. We were also told the sides were bottomless. I loved the potato salad - it wasn't your typical potato salad; not sure what spices were in it but I thought it was delicious! I also loved the bean sprouts. The cucumber dish was interesting - it was good, and very zippy, but I preferred the other 2 sides. At this point I realized the restaurant was now packed! Every table was seated as well as every seat at the bar despite the fact the snow fall was getting heavier. I was so happy we arrived at 6:30 instead of 7. Then our entrees arrived. OMG. The presentation was fabulous, especially the Kimchi Fried Rice which arrived in a stone bowl and was topped with a gorgeous fried egg. The first bite of the bulgogi BLEW MY MIND. Seriously - it was SOOOOOOO good. Tender beef with sweet spices over rice (which they bring in a side bowl), this is a dish that I will crave. The kimchi fried rice was unlike any other fried rice I had ever consumed. It was spicy (not too hot spicy, very flavorful) with tender shredded beef mixed throughout. But MY GOSH that bulgogi!!!! Our side dishes were replaced just moments after we finished each one. The service here was so quick and attentive! We told Maria how much we loved our meal and how we cannot wait to come back here and try the Dak (spicy chicken barbeque) and the Bibimbop. The girl at the table next to us ordered the bibimbop and it arrived sizzling in a large stone bowl and it smelled wonderful. Maria informed us of the lunch specials, and I might just have to take a half-day at work to come here for lunch. It's that good!!! It is only now that I realized they have karaoke here Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9:30pm. I wish I would have known, we would have stayed to check it out! This gives me another excuse to come here for dinner in the hopefully near future ;) Side note: their menu claims MSG free, which I believe as I didn't have to drink a gallon of water or leave with that icky bloating feeling that comes along with MSG-laden food. They also have many dishes that are or can be made vegetarian. I can honestly say that the whole experience - the food, the service, the décor - far exceeded my expectations. Even though this was my first visit, I am not hesitating to give a 5 star rating. I highly recommend Stone Bowl Grill, especially if you are new to Korean food, or looking to try a new restaurant. This was a great for date night!

If Milwaukee was ever going to have a Koreatown it would start right here! Authentic Korean food served in style! I give this place 5 stars as 3 reasons to eat, drink and be merry in this place. 1 - Phenomenal Food: Here let me order for you....Start with the Mandoo, you should probably order two otherwise your date may not get any; split the Bibimbap, you'll be in heaven; and finish with the Kalbi and Spicy Seafood Ramen. 2 - Drink, Drink, Drink: Order a bottle of wine and a carafe of the Pomegranite Soju...this stuff packs a fearless yet delicate punch. 3 - Enjoy the Atmosphere: Drift away to the sounds of what I think was a Korean Michael Bolton and Korean Backstreet Boys mix. It was hilariously enjoyable and you'll find yourself humming these Korean tunes after you leave.

SOLID 3 STARS but slightly over priced and flavors lacking punch. ORDERED: Garlic Chicken $11.95 (Boneless wings, Korean chili sauce), Bulgogi Beef Lunch Box $8.95 (Bulgogi, miso soup, rice, dumpling, kimchi, salad), Ginger Tea $3.95 TASTED: The ginger tea was great (see photo), the answer to a head cold. Spicy ginger, honey and pine nuts floating around, first I've seen tea with pignolis. At $3.95 expensive, not sure if included refill because didn't approach drinking it all. The Garlic Chicken is an appetizer, an appetizer fit for four people. Too much for two people and at $11.95 on the pricy side. I'd rather see half the portion size and a reduced price. The heat level is a 2/10. I was expecting more punch in flavors. I ordered the bento lunch box to sample Stone Bowl's offerings. The price is fine but the flavors lacking. The miso soup was good, not too salty with two chunks of tofu, kelp, spinach and green onions floating about. I remember Bulgogi in Portland having an intense sweet and spicy flavor, this Bulgogi was bland. The compartment for the Bulgogi was 85% onions and 15% actual meat. There's a $3 up charge for brown rice. The dumplings tasted only of grease. The kimchi was really cold which muted the spice drastically. My eyes told me "this should be burning your tongue" but it was as spicy as cabbage in ketchup. The salad had micro greens and cucumber with an orange ginger dressing, it was fine. POST: I like having a diversity of dining options. The interior is zen modern and artfully done. There are posters educating diners on Korean food (see photo). The service was attentive and friendly. THE FOOD simply lacked an intensity that I was expecting. I'm not familiar with Korean cuisine so possibly it's not as flavor punched as I assumed. Four dollar hot tea, three dollar brown rice charge, appetizers more expensive than entrees, it felt like I was being nickel and dimed (for lack of a better cliche). Would return and wouldn't discourage anyone from trying Stone Bowl. Stone Bowl is owned by a local restauranteur who also owns Kanpai and Wasabi.

I was here visiting my brother and decided to go for lunch. This is a nice place and the food has great flavors and fair prices. I just wish there is more side dishes because i am used to 6 in every korean places. Also, the service is ok but kinda slow on a sunday where it is not busy.

I've been here a couple of times with my brothers and SO and I've always enjoyed my meals. They did change their menu recently, but it's not online. Wish I would've taken a picture. They're now offering Shabu Shabu, where you cook at your table in a hot pot. Let me just list what I've had there before: BiBimBop w/ Beef - This is a simple dish with a variety of veggies, beef, and egg on top, served with korean hot sauce mixed in. Rice on the bottom gets crispy. PanJeon - I really liked this seafood pancake. Comes with a soy based dipping sauce. Mandoo - Just dumplings, nothing special Dukboki - Spicy Rice Cakes and Fish Cakes. Really yummy, but the ramen being added to it wasn't worth the $3 as it didn't hold the flavor well. My brothers always get the Bulgogi and the Jaeyook, which previously were small portions of meat and full of veggies. This time I went with my SO and his friend and they limited the veggies so that was an improvement. Soon Dubu - My cousin got this but I wasn't a fan of it. Pretty plain to me, even though I love tofu. Sucks that a side of kimchi is $1, which makes no sense because banchans are always free. Sometimes the kimchi tastes old. My SO loves the mashed potato and sweet broccoli side dish. Sometimes we get the soy/sesame rice block, the seaweed, cucumber kimchi, jorim, beanspouts, as our sides. One thing that was weird was that we got plain shredded lettuce, which I assumed was for the Bulgogi and Jaeyook, but since my bf and his friend didn't want it, I added it to my Yook Gae Jang soup. When they refilled it, they put dressing on it, so I was like, ok, that's inconsistent, but whatever. My biggest complaint is that they took away my favorite soup there: Tuk Bul It was why we stopped by, but I settled for the YGJ, which although delicious, didn't satisfy me the way the Tuk Bul did. (Please bring it back, or at least, gimme the recipe) I swear they had more bubble tea flavors before as well, but now they only have taro/lychee. Service is pretty good.

We had a great time here--service was friendly and competent. We loved the food as well. The kimchee was a bit salty but still tasty. We want to come back and try all the things we didn't get this time!

I recently went back, and things have definitely improved. The side dishes were tasty, and fresh. I was asked if I wanted my soondubu "Korean spicy", and it was perfectly seasoned. I'm still waiting on Kimbap to be put on the menu. (fingers crossed)

Stopped by randomly when Comet was packed. I love Korean food and this place was great. We came from an area of Japan with lots of Yakiniku places and have been spoiled on bibimbap and Bulgogi so we've been pretty picky. His place hits the mark. We will definitely be back and often for our old favorites. Staff is great. And they have the doorbells for service, which we have missed dearly since our return to America. (Could tell they don't get nearly the mileage they should!) so pop in, sit down, ring a doorbell, and try the kimchi and the myriad of great dishes on the menu.

As you can tell, I try to steer clear of 3-star reviews as they can be somewhat unhelpful in making a decision. It's like those surveys where the apathetic middle option is "somewhat agree and disagree." They don't get you anywhere. But, Stone Bowl Grill is definitely an exception, mainly because I don't want to steer someone away from here, based on my personal opinion/taste buds, if Korean food is your jam. Disclaimer: my review is based on one (take-out) experience. Also, I don't eat Korean frequently; I usually opt for Thai or Indian. Atmosphere/bar service: I called around 7:30pm on a Tuesday night, and the employee who took our order was extremely nice/friendly and honest (I had a question regarding spice level in their ramen). She said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes (not bad!), but since we live nearby, we decided to just walk over and wait. I'm glad we did, because I really liked the interior atmosphere. You can definitely recognize the old Mayura (RIP.. I still miss you!) layout, but they've jazzed it up with some ethnic flair. Kudos for their decorative atmosphere without being tacky! I also noticed the shirts the servers were wearing and hadn't realized Stone Bowl was owned by the same individuals as Kanpai and Wasabi. While I've never been to Kanpai, I've heard great things, so I'm excited to try it out :) Food: I ordered the Jap Che and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy Pork Ramen. We were both stoked for our hot food, as it was cold and rainy last night. We got home, put on Netflix, and dug in. The first thing my boyfriend noticed was the huge chunk of pork fat floating in his ramen. He was kind of bummed about the quality and quantity of meat, but it was ok because my dish had a ton of good beef, so he was able to add some of it to his dish. Other than that, he loved the ramen. He had a good amount of leftover broth, so he decided to save it and add it to a soup we made the other night. As for my dish, it was good, but it wasn't great. It had a heavy soy flavor to it, and that was about it. I was expecting more veggies and less meat, but it was definitely the opposite. Overall: Our experience really was just so-so. The price and food is what lowered my rating (Oh, I wish there were half-stars!). The atmosphere, customer service, and cleanliness are definitely on point though! Perhaps I'm just not a huge fan of Korean food and that's why I didn't like my dish as much. Again, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great! I would still recommend Stone Bowl Grill, at least to try!

I originally had no intention of stopping by here, but walking past I could not resist the alluring odor coming from this place. The menu isn't huge, but I usually take that as a good sign, as I'd rather a place does a few things right, than a hundred things mediocre. We ordered to go, since my friend and I were in a bit of a rush, but the food we sampled was pretty good! We had ordered the korean barbecued squid and chicken, and while it was spicy, the flavors were robust and nothing was overpowering. The price was a bit steep for the amount of food we received, but the service was top notch, and the staff friendly and helpful. The decor was classy and trendy, and this would be a decent place for a date, but going with a bro? Might get the wrong idea... ... Or the right idea. I'm not here to tell you how to live your life, jeeze.

I always love coming to Stone Bowl! Really good for a date night, perfect atmosphere and perfect price. The food is always spot on and the banchan they give you is tasty and never ending. (think of chips at a Mexican restraunt but real food) The plating is done well and everything looks appetizing. I have never been disapointed with a meal. They have great vegetarian options too! I love the booths because they are secluded and you can have a good conversation with the person you are with. They even have buttons on the booth so you can alert a server if you need anything. I have only used the buttons once as they are really good and checking on you and bringing the check at a good time. I highly suggest trying Stone Bowl, you will be a returning customer!

Before I found this place, I would always travel down to Chicago for my Korean BBQ fix but I'm glad there is one in Milwaukee now. The place isnt hard to find and the setting is very nice. They sometimes play South Korean music and usually at the bar, a recent korean drama is on so we enjoyed that very much. My sisters and I are huge fans of their pork belly meat and kalbi. We also love their duboki or rice sticks which has a spicy yet delicious flavor. Our waittress, Maddie, was attentive and knowledgable about the food. Just for fun, we asked her if the restaurant served live octopus with ramen! But obviously she said no and had a good conversation out of it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves marinated meat and great customer services.

I went through a rollercoaster of emotions as I entered the former site of Mayura. I miss you Mayura, but I must move on with my life. They did a nice job with this interior. Looks better than Mayura ever did (RIP), way better. Really nice place. We started off with Dukpoki (it's fun to say) and some meat steamed dumplings. Ain't no party like a dumpling party cuz a dumpling party don't stop. I would get both of these apps again, and the Dukpoki was my favorite dish of the night. The rice cake was a very interesting texture and it just had great flavor. My entree was the Dubu Kimchi, as I read about it in a previous Yelp review. Thank you for the recommendation Yelp breathren, but this one just didn't blow my socks off. Too much tofu involved. BIg chunks. It was okay, just not great. I'll try another entree next time. Service was attentive and I'm intrigued to come back and try some other things. I'm not sure how much I love Korean food - and that's not Stone Bowl's problem... so they get an a-okay from me.

I will come here again and again for the Spicy Seafood Ramen. The interior is clean and calming. It looks great. The service is pretty good (our server forgot my second pot of tea but that's not a big deal). They close at 9 on Sundays and it definitely felt like we were getting rushed out and I saw them turn away customers at 8:30. That has never made sense to me that a restaurant gives hours and then turns people away half an hour before they supposedly close.

I will start this review by saying that I am someone who cannot handle a lot of spice. Stone Bowl doesn't seem to have a lot of options for those who don't do spicy. And also this was my first time eating Korean food. The atmosphere was right up my alley- a nice sized restaurant, not too loud, modern and warm. Our service was really good. I liked that they brought us Miso soup, then the sides, and the presentation of the bimbimbop I ordered was really neat. I didn't particularly like any of the side dishes that much, except for the radish salad-that was really good! However, I found the veggie bimbimbop incredibly bland, even after adding the spicy sauce. It looked very nice but hardly any flavor. Maybe my taste buds just aren't that into Korean food and can't handle the heat (I will say all of my friends liked their food), so I don't want to tell anyone not to go here just based on my opinion. But if you don't like spicy food this may not be the right place for you.

I am constantly craving Korean, so I was elated when Stone Bowl opened its doors. The first time I went, I hated it. I had high expectations, but was disappointed with the yukgaejang. I LOVE yukgaejang. What I ordered really lacked the flavor and spiciness that yukgaejang is normally characterized by. So, I didn't go back for a very long time... A very long time being about six months, which--to me--is a long time. I obviously decided to give it a second try. Sometimes opening a new place can be rough. Growing pains. It is was it is, but the second time It was not at all disappointing. I had the lunch special. I don't remember how much it was, but I do remember it was cheap and m.a.s.h.i.s.o.y.o. I loved it. Today--I was surprised again. I knew I wanted food, but I hadn't even planned on going to Stone Bowl. I drove by and decided to go in on a whim. Upon entering, I was greeted by all of the smiling employees in Korean. Nice touch. Makes the place feel a little more authentic. That and the K-pop. Of course, there's the food too. I had the galbi and it came with three side dishes: a sliced and pickled radish salad of sorts, what appeared to be mashed potatoes, and fish strips. They are good--I promise you--but my description doesn't do the sides justice. I have no idea was they are called. At any rate, the galbi was also accompanied by lettuce, rice, soup, and samjang . It was excellent. I also ordered mandu, which was alright but nothing stellar. The galbi, however, is something I would order again. As for the interior, it's inviting. K-pop may be a turn off for some, but it brings back fond memories for me. Puts me in a good mood. My waitress, Marina did the same. I got everything much more quickly than I anticipated. Marina was awesome. The food was awesome. The ambience was refreshing. The entire staff was very friendly and attentive. I really couldn't have had a better experience. Seoul was my go-to place for Korean, but Stone Bowl might be my new favorite.

Descriptive phrase: underwhelming Korean diner. I don't eat Korean often, and so I was excited to try the new Stone Bowl Grill on Farwell (the old Mayura space, I believe). We were greeted at lunch on a Monday by a whole gaggle of Korean staffs members, standing next to the front bar. They showed us immediately to a table in the middle of the dining area, which features subtle pan-Asian touches and clean wood lines. Our server was extremely nice, but was a bit rough with English when we inquired about things on the menu. A ginger tea runs $3.95, but was fresh and tasty. We wanted to start with an order of Mandoo Dumplings [pot-stickers] ($6), but for whatever reason these didn't come out until after our main dishes. You'll get around 6 dumplings in a cute little bamboo bowl, and they were simply fine. Nothing to note. Our entrees came out unnaturally-fast. I was eager to try my first bibimbap, and I went for Kogi [beef] ($9.95). I've heard great things about this dish in general, and it's served in the namesake stone bowl. It's a large bowl filled with rice, sprouts, mushrooms, carrots, ground beef, spinach, and cucumber, all separated with a fried egg on top. You're then to pour the spicy chili paste on top and mix it together. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since this was my first time having this dish, but I just didn't enjoy it. No flavor came through but the chili paste, and even that was more heat (but not too much) than flavor. It was just a bowl of mush, with no star and no supporting cast. I wouldn't get it again. Katie's Jap Che ($9.95) was much better. This dish featured a pile of vermicelli noodles stir-fried with carrots, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and beef (even though it was supposedly vegetarian). Here many more flavors came through, and overall it was more satisfying. My first taste of Stone Bowl Grill did disappoint a bit but showed some promise in someone else's dish. I won't put down a date to return.

I've been here twice now, and have left happy both times. I have no idea if it's traditional or authentic, and I don't really care, because what it is is delicious. I went with a friend native to Korea, and when I have a resource like that, I just hand over my menu and make them order things for me. If you would like to borrow him, drop me a line and offer to buy his food and he will probably go with you. But anyways, as a result, I don't know everything I ate...but I do remember a few favorites, and you have to get them. First things first. Get the Pan Jeon. It's a korean pancake filled with veggies and seafood and trust me, you want it in your face. The Bulgogi is probably the best "people pleaser" dish. It's beef with a sweet, delicious brown sauce and onions served with rice. You really can't go wrong here. Okay...next...get the kimchi cheese bibimbop. Because it tastes like pizza and that's just fun. Seriously. Order it. It's asian pizza. Afterwards, order a few more random things until you're full, and then get some mochi ice cream - because it's way better here than what you buy in the store. And then leave all warm and full and satisfied.

We loved this place so much that we ate here two days in a row. I come from an Asian family and am often disappointed in Milwaukee's Korean and Japanese food choices. This place has redeemed Milwaukee in my eyes. The last time I had ramen this good, I was in Tokyo--spicy, piping hot, delicious, great flavor. Everything came out quickly--during dinner service and lunch service. The owner came out to check on us multiple times, refilled our side dishes and greeted us in both languages. Our servers were knowledgeable and attentive (especially the female young lady we had, wish I could remember her name!). Love the atmosphere! Love the kindhearted owner! Loved all the food (we ordered dolsot bibimpop, steemed buns, pajeon, an udon noodle dish, and pork belly ramen--no complaints!). Please stay around in Milwaukee!!!!

I didn't even know this place was here, but I'm extremely happy to have found it. I love me some bibimbap and barbeque, and I wasn't disappointed here. The service, as mentioned by Ed, was a little on the eager side, but was absolutely good. She was very attentive and knew the dishes well, and I was happy to have the input as we started. We had our miso to start, which was good, and also random for a korean place. Given the chill outside, it was perfectly welcome with the green tea we were drinking. The sides were typical, with a seaweed salad, potato salad and cucumber. All were good, and relatively unremarkable. We don't do this for the side dishes, however. We did a beef hot bowl which tasted extremely well. They do cook the egg first, which is okay, although I like the egg cracked fresh into the bowl so that it scrambles as I stir it. We also had the spicy chicken barbeque, which was flavored well, albeit not as spicy as I like. The only drawback was that it wasn't a very saucy dish. I like to have something liquid to go into the rice, but that's just a minor thing. Lastly, we did the seafood ramen. It was a pretty substantial bowl. The ramen was cooked well, not overly soggy, not ridiculously full of salt. (Also, they claim no MSG in their food, and, given my lack of need to pound water like I just left a rave, I fully believe them) The seafood content itself wasn't overly abundant, but, for the $8.95 you pay, that's just fine. There were little mussels, clams in shell, a full (smaller) prawn, crab and two intact (smaller) octupi. The octupi were my favorite component for two reasons...one: not overcooked and inedible, just chewy and easy. And two: my date was stirring the ramen with her sticks and uncovered it and let out a little shriek when it popped up. She's normally not squeamish, so it was hilarious at the time. I'm sure there will be a smoothness to the process, but I'm definitely happy with what they're doing now. While I don't think they've yet as good as Seoul used to be a couple years ago, I'd say they're definitely better than Seoul was the last two times I went. This will be my new Korean stop.

This place surpassed all of my expectations. It has a laid back atmosphere with very affordable prices, and they give you a lot of great tasting food. My girlfriend and I each ordered a different hot bowl. I got the spicy squid, which was recommended by the waiter. It had a lot of spice, but wasn't so spicy I couldn't eat it. We had a ton of leftovers that I'm excited to dig into today! The service was also very fast and polite.

So I went back recently and I went on an odd morning where they were barely open... so that explains the mushy rice in the bibimbap. Also, I don't think mornings are a good time to go, let them kinda do their thing first, get the fire running a bit. My food was not good this AM. However, I've had better food from them prior, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say, it was just a bad day. Service! BIG improvement. I pretty much did not have to call anyone over this time. The food was served up quickly and they asked several times if I had any questions regarding the menu or if the food was okay. (So why didn't I mention the food thing to them? I was tired and I just didn't want to talk a whole bunch or make a scene. And it's not my job.) They filled my water!!!! TWICE! :) Food was still pricey and I don't think that will change. I think it may be the nature of bibimbaps haha.

Ah, Stone Bowl. I wanted to love you, especially after Seoul down the street raised their prices by up to $3.00 a dish. I was pulling for you! The decor is gorgeous, of course, and the servers are attentive yet easy-going. And they have a beautiful bar area, too. Refillable miso soup is a plus, of course, and the fact that they had good coffee was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the Hae Mul Pae Jun (seafood pancake), and while they give you a ton of food, it's simply not as good as Seoul's HMPJ. The pancake isn't as cooked in the middle, and there isn't a ton of flavor, which makes it taste like a bland, lumpy omelet. It was a let down. But my friend liked her BBQ beef. I mean, I'm partial to Seoul, I know, so I definitely had Seoul in mind the entire time we were at Stone Bowl. While the Hae Mul pancake wasn't what I was used to, it wasn't terrible. I'll have to go back to check out the bibimbop and the jam bon (probably spelled those wrong). I look forward to it!

Wow. The food and service was amazing. Generous portions and rich taste. Great prices and worth every penny. The only thing my friends and I could talk about after leaving this restaurant, was how good it was. We were stuffed but still craved the dishes we ordered. Can't wait to eat my leftovers! :-)

Great service. Very nice environment. Even though this place is located in a store-front, it is quite nice inside. I like the remodel. It is both trendy and a bit romantic. The server was great, attentive, very friendly, made suggestions, and happily explained the entire menu and concept. The menu has intentional vegetarian options! A big plus. Many dishes have the option of choosing your protein, including extra veg or tofu. We tried the steamed vegetarian dumplings. They were very good. My only complaint would be that there were an uneven number (5) and two of us. I would have preferred 6. They are not huge. Good though. I got a hot stone bowl with lots of vegetables. They bring you this stone bowl that is super hot and you stir it and heat up/cook the veggies and rice in there. They give you the sauce on the side so you can add and mix to your own tastes. One of my dining companions got the seafood noodle soup dish. This dish is for the adventurous - - whole shrimp with heads, whole baby octopus, etc. I am glad I didn't order it, but I am sure it works for others out there. They also feature server call buttons right next to the table. Our server was pretty attentive so it wasn't necessary but it was nice. Overall a very good experience. I would recommend. The atmosphere is quiet and dark, better for adults.

Came here the other day for lunch and the food was excellent. Although it was busy, we were seated right away and given water. Since we didn't know what to order we were told to ring a doorbell when we were ready. I thought that was very neat. I don't like spicy food that much so even though everything seemed like it was spicy on the menu the server told me I could get it mild. I ordered the spicy seafood soup mild and it was delicious. We also ordered the seafood pancakes and beef hot stone bowl. We were given side dishes to eat as well. The music was at the right volume and the Korean videos were interesting to watch. Overall the service was excellent and the food was delicious. We will be returning again.

I been here a few times....Best Korean restaurant in Milwaukee, sorry Seoul - you guys are just too expensive.... and you got rid of the popular buffett... So I am switching to Stone Bowl Grill. You know what Stone Bowl need to start offering in their menu: Korean Fried Chicken, like Bonchon! Man, if they have those, business will go through the roof! I will be there every week

First Korean food experience was enjoyable! Friendly staff and adventurous food. Took about 20 minutes for my food to be a consumable temperature but I'm sure this is pretty normal for a dish served literally boiling hot. Worth a try on Milwaukee ' s "Chinatown" stretch on Farwell ave!

I absolutely loved this place. I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the stone bowl bibimbob and it was fantastic. Everything was fresh and very good. My husband ordered the ribs and they were so yummy. Our server was very attentive and very nice. I thought the atmosphere was very warm and inviting, a little small but that's what I liked about it. This is one of those places you go and try something and then you know you just want to try other dishes. I'm so happy there is finally a decent Korean place in Milwaukee!!!!

Lunch was awesome. The soup was excellent. The meal it self was also excellent. Had traditional tofu soup and spicy chicken. Atmosphere was great. Staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely come back for dinner someday. Kids loved the bibimbap and karbi (beef short-ribs) very traditional in flavor and presentation. They are not afraid to make things spicy, which was great for us.

Went in with my family of 5 on a Sunday night and got seated right away. There where not more than 10 customers in the place. We placed our drink order and after 15 minutes not only did we not have drinks but had yet to be given menus. After 25 minutes of drinking water and no waiter we left. When we left the 5 staff members hanging out by the bar where very polite thanking us and asking us to come again. It would have been nice if just one of them would have been willing to serve us. I have been here before and the food was very good that time. Not sure I will be returning after this.

This place is hit or mis. Both times I have eaten here, the banchan have been underwhelming. The "potato salad", served both time, is especially poor, as it is nothing more than an ice cream scoop of cold mashed potatoes with minimal seasoning. Kimchi is not included in the meal. On one visit, the braised pork belly was very tender; Next time, it was dry and tough, to the point of being inedible (we didn't finish it). The bibimbap is good, but not great and the portion makes me think it should be $2 cheaper. Cheap Korean and Japanese beers that compare to Miller Lite start at $5 each. This restaurant has great potential, but it falls short. It may be a while before I return.

Fancy fun place to be. Can feel crowded and tight at times because it gets so busy during dinner time. Second time here. The food is amazing but the sides are inconsistent. There's this cold or room temperature mash potato look alike side. Never had it before at any Korean restaurant. Also I don't think there are free refills on the sides. They don't even give you kimchi on a side and will charge you $1 for a tiny tiny side dish. It is kinda expensive during dinner. Don't mind going again. There are service buttons you can press at your table which is pretty cool. Second time I went with a friend we didn't get our waiter and had to wait for long time until they served us. One waiter came and served us water. Then our real waiter came and tried to serve us water. We basically got two waiters who were not being consultant on who really wanted to serve us that's why things took so long.

before going here with my family i had only eaten a lunch here with a friend. the menu was very different for lunch than when i came back with my family. i arrived with my husband and son and no one said anything to us even though there were about 3-4 people near the front of the restaurant. when someone finally did acknowledge us it was nice and we were seated. the person who seated us was not our server so when he arrived he seemed pleasant enough, we ordered our drinks, and he left. the place wasn't very busy so i'm not sure why it took him so long each time he left us to come back but it took entirely too long each time. when he returned with our drinks he asked if we had ever been there before which is when i explained that i had for lunch but my family had not. it was at this moment that i expected the waiter to explain the menu or ask if we had questions. he did neither of these things. he walked away and brought back some little dishes of cold items. at this point my family was just humoring me because i had picked the place so i decided to taste the items that were brought out. we had no idea what they were for or what we were supposed to do with them as there was no explanation given. it was cold mashed potatoes, cold chicken strips, and something else that i have no idea what it was. we ordered rice bowls thinking that would be safe. when he returned with our rice bowls our waiter mumbled something about some hot sauces he had brought out with the cold items and asked if we wanted him to mix it in with our rice bowls. since we had no idea what was going on and the waiter didn't bother to take the time to explain any of the food to us... we just told him no... because why would we want him to dump hot sauce on our food for us?!? the food was not good. it was not what we were expecting and neither my son nor my husband ate any of it. it was bland and a strange modge podge of veggies, meat, and a sunny side up egg thrown on top for good measure. when the waiter came back and asked us how we were doing we told him this and all he did was walk away. my husband was angry. we asked for the check which the waiter dropped at the table and then he walked away and could not be found. we waited for him for a good 5 minutes or so and then my husband went up to the register to pay so we could leave. they couldn't ring us up because they needed the waiter's number or something and couldn't find him. this just added insult to injury because they also didn't comp our bill at all. it was an $80 bill. needless to say we will not be back. we tried to try something new and obviously this was not the place to do it.

Delicious! You MUST eat at Stone Bowl NOW. I was eager for the East Side to finally get a legit Korean restaurant . This place delivers! First star, it is amazing how beautifully decorated the space is, definitely draws you right in. Second star, every person working was incredibly friendly and accommodating - and not in an overbearing way. We were greeted immediately and were able to get a table and drinks in about 6 minutes. Third star, what a wide variety of items on the menu! Potstickers, Korean wings, bibimbop, noodles, beef, the list goes on. I have to give the last two stars for the food. It really was delicious. I did order the Dol Sot (hot bowl) bibimbop. The dish came out in a scorching hot stone bowl, overflowing with fresh veggies, fried egg, and beef. What happens next is the fabulousness of bibimbop...You mix everything together in the hot bowl, and everything sautés and cooks together. Sooo good. And apparently there is Karaoke on Friday nights! This definitely warrants a sixth star. I'm looking forward to my next meal here!

After attempting another couple restaurants in the area that didn't work out we decided to try Stone Bowl, what a delightful experience! We were there on a Saturday afternoon and it was a bit quiet. As newbies to Korean cuisine, we asked our waitress for some information. She went thru the menu, spending several minutes explaining many items and how they were cooked. She recommended the veggie dumpling Soon Dubu to me as I wanted tofu; it didn't disappoint. Although it was a tad too salty, I can't stop thinking about it and how good it was. The other diners with me got Bulgogi, Kal Guk Soo, and tofu Bibimbop. I loved the little bowls of sides that came before the meal and I also ordered a side of kimchi, which I had never had before and it was spicy, tart, and delicious. I obviously have nothing to compare this with but can say I can't wait to visit Milwaukee again so I can get more, I have to go back!

Had a very good dining experience. Food was very good, but probably not as authentic as the real thing. Service was attentive. I'll be back. One thing that needs work is their marinated & fermented vegetables. The kimchi that came with my meal was good, but the marinated appetizers they bring out ahead of your meal were undermarinated and bland.

The service isn't 100% there yet and can be a bit slow. But everyone who works there has such good intentions and the food is good, so I keep going back.

They did a really nice job with the remodel of this space! Beautiful with nice lighting. Solid menu with many of my favorite Korean dishes. I think the prices are reasonable- you get several traditional side dishes with each entree. The menu also said miso soup but we did not receive any. Servers were very sweet and attentive, and the food came out quickly. The bibimbop was delicious!

Second time to this restaurant and doubt I'll be back. The side dishes are really not good. You have to pay for a side of kimchi - it's $1 and it's not very much. For the amount you pay, don't expect do be wow-ed at all. Beware a rice wine concoction that is not on the menu - it costs $20 for a bowl - and no you cannot sample it before you decide whether or not you'd like it - I know it's my fault for not being wary but I trusted the recommendation given by the server - apparently a lot of Korean women like it - must be an acquired taste because quite honestly, it tasted like carbonated vomit. It was even a milky white color. We sent it back after two sips - of course we still ended up paying for it (based I think on restaurant policy - I can see this happening in an Asian restaurant). Stone Bowl is OK for trying - I don't think one would be terribly disappointed, but I've tasted so much better. Unfortunately, you won't find it in Milwaukee.

Was so excited to have a Korean place with bimibap, even counted down until that opening day and went the first week... but was quickly disappointed. Place is cute but food was ok. My veggie bimibap was bland and my husband's beef was terrible cheap cuts. Side dishes were ok, nothing special. Left sad, hoping we could do better.

I was excited to see a Korean restaurant with some BBQ, stone bowls, and fried chicken in Milwaukee. I was not happy with the actual food though. Quite the disappointment. The service was poor and the waitress had no clue about the menu items. Ban chan was very weak. Three small dishes of marinated daikon radish, bean sprouts, and some fish cakes strait out of the package. Bibimbap was filled with a lot of assorted vegetables and a little bit of beef, but barely had any rice to actually mix it together. I also had to ask for sesame oil that would normally come on the side at authentic places. The chicken wings were the biggest joke. The smallest wings ever! Smaller than Brothers .10 cent wings! You get 10 pieces per order and they are way overpriced at $14.95! Never again will I get that ripped off for some micro wings. Overall, I would never come here to eat again. Way over priced and not that good. Not enough side dishes (ban chan) that come with your meal and the ones that did come weren't good. Don't be fooled into thinking this is good authentic Korean food.

Summary: A simply great dinner. I read the reviews and thought they were a little mixed and was shocked to hear people call it "pricey" given the prices I saw. I was impressed with the tasty food and service. I'll be back! Our Order: Kiwi Soju: A fermented korean drink similar to Saki but now made from potatoes. They serve theres with a fruit. The kiwi was easy to drink and quite sweet. Maybe a bit too much for me, but I still enjoyed it and my wife loved it. Soo yook (pork belly): This was probably the only mistake. It was fine, but I was unimpressed by it and wouldn't get it again. Dudbu Kimchi&Pork: My dish. A great balance of flavors and textures. It had a perfect amount of spice that might be a bit much for people who don't like spice. I couldn't stop eating my big portion and was tempted to lick the plate when I was done. HIGHLY recommend trying this. Bulgogi: Korean BBQ beef marinated in some sort of sweet asian pear sauce. This was slightly sweet and delicious. My wife loved it. The table sides: Mostly forgettable, I enjoyed the fish cake don't even remember the other two, but certainly didn't need them Portions: Pretty large, and a good value for the price across the board. Service: Mariana took care of us. She was helpful, friendly, and had a great smile all night. Over all very good. Atmosphere: The place is fairly quiet with some K-Pop playing near the bar, but we sat in the middle of the restaurant and could barely here it. Parking: A bit of a pain as the streets are your only shot and they can be full up. My only complaint was that I got there and they didn't have my open table reservation. I've never had that happen before. It wasn't a big deal and we got a table immediately anyway.

Milwaukee is in desperate need of authentic Korean, and I'm sorry, but this is not it. The waiter we had was so nice, so the service was good. My $20 kalbi came with like two side dishes. And nothing else. And they wanted to charge $1 for kimchi. I'm used to massive amounts of side dishes, all you can eat kim chi, and lettuce and this red pepper sauce, and radishes. Anyway, it's probably the best you can get in Milwaukee. But I'll probably go to Chicago to satisfy a true Korean craving. That said, the lunch boxes look decent. I wish they had the grills at the tables!

The service was fantastic, she was knowledgable on the menu, which was helpful. I got the beef bibimbap, which was great especially with the red sauce. It came with a nice bean cure soup with that had a slight spice. All on all a good place.

Nicely remodeled interior. Korean pop with a decorative touch. Lots of good dish options... Hands down favorite: Korean BBQ (chicken is my favorite). Seaweed side dish is amaaaazing. (Not always on the menu... hope to see it return!) Waitstaff is attentive, friendly & knowledgable. Look for the secret little call button... Bibimbop food art approved.

Writing this on behalf of my lady friend. Perhaps it's just that she doesn't like Korean food, but overall meal was mediocre without much flavor. Ordered extra spicy, but certainly not like a Thai restaurant. Both dishes ordered looked exactly the same, though expected quite different. Pork meat was a bit rubbery. One great feature was very gracious service that brought out free appetizers because of an extended wait. Cucumber app was very good. Would have enjoyed a true stone bowl rather than a small iron-like plate, for aesthetics.

The only thing this place succeed on is that the food beats Seoul Korea res. this place is ridiculously expensive given the shabby free appetizers. Will I go back? Still a slight chance coz the next better k food is 90 miles south.

This place is great. My mom and I came after I've been wanting to have Korean food for ages. I had never been to a Korean restaurant and I hadn't had Korean food in years. My mom knows it well though, since we were close friends with a Korean woman who worked as a Korean cook for a long time and cooked ever since she was young. So my mom knows what it should taste like. The interior: lovely! Perfect balance of traditional and modern, and the staff is very, very friendly. We ordered a lot of food, and unfortunately I don't remember what my mom ordered. I ordered the Tuk Bol, and it was beautiful in presentation and delicious to taste. Spicy with good flavor. HUGE portion. Along with all the side dishes (which are FREE REFILLS BY THE WAY! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?) I barely made a dent before feeling full. My mom noticed that initially some of the food tasted a little bland. However, there is a soy based sauce the kitchen makes and if you add it to any dish it makes it twice as good. Aaand they play Kpop in the background! (not the entire time, but the majority for when I visited) It's at a low volume for those of you who aren't a fan, but for huge fans like myself it made my night a whole lot better. Long story short- I can't wait to come back!

Just tried it a couple of weeks ago. Awesome Korean food is finally here in Milwaukee. The service was great and the food was delicious. We used to have to go down to Chicago to get great Korean food. Its great that we can now get it in Milwaukee. Love K Pop while we were eating.

I really wanted to like this place, I love my Korean food so I was looking forward to date night and some delicious eats but was not as satisfied as I think I could have been if I would have made all this on my own. The seafood pah jeon was too thick, I appreciate the vast amount of seafood in the pancake itself but it was so thick the center was a soggy mess. I've had plenty of pah jeon at various other Korean restaurants in Chicago and MN and this one was not up to par. The spicy pork lettuce wraps were good, had a nice flavor but I didn't get why there were so many jalapeños? Spicy squid bibambap, okay my understanding of bibambap is that the rice is supposed to get crispy from the searing in the hot stone bowl which adds texture and creates a delicious crisp, let me tell you, this was not that. The spicy squid looked like my spicy pork stirfry, once again with the jalapeños, over sauced mixed in with the rice which basically left you with a wet, piping hot semi stew in your stone bowl. This was very disappointing but the biggest crime was the lack of kimchi as part of the banchan, this is a Korean staple banchan so to be charged for it just boggles my mind (we didn't order any.) I might be willing to give them another go, I mean the waitress was great and the atmosphere in general was decent, so who knows.

I've been to Korean restaurants in California, and my husband has been to Seoul so we thought this place was excellent for the area (considering the lack of Asian places in Wisconsin). We liked the spicy red sauce and the 3 complimentary sides, although it would have been great to have many more types of the sides (at least 6 or 7), which is typical on the west coast. The server was very friendly and attentive. My tofu bibimbap was tasty; the veggies were crunchy, and the rice partially toasted at the bottom in a nice way. The only downside is that I found a flat black substance at the bottom of the dish. It did not look like burned rice, and it did not look like it came from the clay pot.

I had my first hot bimbimbap here (having tried cold bimbimbap recently in Santa Monica, CA) for the first time. The atmosphere is okay. It didn't wow or disappoint me. Sitting next to a window is nice for natural light. I really enjoyed the bimbimbap as it's hard to go wrong with such delicious veggies, but I would not order the beef again. I did not like that it was served with ground beef. While this may be a standard practice, I would've preferred slices of meat. If I would have known, I would've had it with tofu instead. However, the dish is delicious, a large size for a fair price and comes with three mini sides and free refills of miso soup (yum!). The waiter was a little timid and unsure of himself or the menu, but sweet/friendly overall. I would come back!

I just recently met up with a friend at the restaurant as I stated before that I would be willing to revisit the restaurant to meet friends there. I ordered the Silken Tofu Dubu (seafood) and it was quite excellent. My friend had ordered the spicy seafood ramen and when they state spicy, it is no joke. Thinking that my friend was exaggerating (as I am accustomed to spicy foods growing up), I tried the broth and almost choked on the spice level in that broth. Aside from that, the spicy seafood ramen was a very delicious entree as well. This second experience doesn't neccessarily change my overall opinion from my initial visit. However, I had to come back and update my review to encourage others to give it another try based on different dishes that they do offer. By doing so, this might make you discover dishes that might be worth coming back for.

First night trying Stone Bowl Grill. Food was delicious and served piping hot!!! Nice sampling of the soup of the day, two salads, kimchI pancakes along with generous portions for entrees. Many items on the menu I still want to try. We'll b back!

Went here on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed! A group of us gathered together to try it out and we ordered several different dishes and appetizers to share. Everything was great! Flavorful and cooked well. The server was very friendly and helpful; atmosphere was pleasant. I'll be going back.

I should preface this review by saying I am crazy for Korean food, I love it love it love it. Stone Bowl Grill was all right. The atmosphere is very nice, classy with comfortable lighting and cool decor, although some of the decorations are Chinese (??). Service was very, very, very attentive but the staff could have stood to know a little more about the menu. Right now they don't serve beer, which made me sad, but said their liquor license will be in effect by 2014. I love kimchi jjiigae, so I get that at almost every Korean restaurant I go to. Asked for it extra spicy because I don't like it white-man style. We also had a bowl of bibim bap and some spicy soy dumpling appetizer. They give you Miso soup before your meal which I thought was bizarre. I've been to like a hundred Korean places and this is the first time I've experienced this. I felt that it didn't fit, and was strange. Miso soup is Japanese. Not Korean. A bowl of miso soup does not exactly set you up for a Korean meal. Weird. Only three banchan came with the meal, the smallest variety I've experienced ever. Usually at all the other places they will hook you up with 5-7 different interesting varieties. None of them were exciting, none included kimchi. One was a potato salad, which was new to me but was actually pretty good. They forgot the rice but brought it quickly when I reminded them. Out of all the kimchi jjigae I've had, I found this one to be a little bland. Even though I asked for extra spicy it was still pretty weak, with not a lot of flavor, and the broth kinda just tasted like Campbells tomato soup. I think there was 2 tiny slices of pork in the whole thing, and like 3 little cubes of tofu. Also when I usually get this at other places, it arrives bubbling in the stone bowl which is exciting. Not here, it just arrived still. The soy dumpling appetizer was good, but these are extremely difficult to pick up with chopsticks due to their size and the slippery sauce they're slathered in. I've been using chopsticks since I was 6 years old and even I had a tough time! They were good though, we liked these. This place would provide a good introduction to Korean cuisine but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to go back unless I am really jonesing for some "K." If you ever travel, be sure to check out Dasarang in Greensboro NC (the real deal holyfield, very legit, creative banchan), Silla in Columbus OH (awesome food, fun karaoke atmosphere, great place to drink), Ttowa in Arlington Heights IL, or in Portland OR there are a handful of food trucks that will knock your socks off. Still no competition in Milwaukee.

They are not Korean food, taste bad. If u have no idea about Korean food, u can try this place to waste money. The waitress stop refill the lemonade after the second time, and they charge extra money if you wanna a lemonade to go which is usually free at most restaurant.

Very solid choice for Korean in Milwaukee. Clean and pleasant decor. Limited apps but good. Pan joen a bit soggy in middle but still tasty. Pork belly great! After trying all over country this is my favorite bibimbop anywhere, period! Bulgogi is solid as is chap chae. Overall rate this right up there with Asiana in Racine and Soons in Kenosha. Good and prompt service. Glad to have this option in Milwaukee.

I feel obligated to write this review having eaten Korean food for literally my whole life. I actually came into this place expecting it to be worse than it was. It just seemed too trendy and too clean(?) to be an authentic Korean restaurant. However, I was pleasantly surprised to have a decent representation of Korean cuisine in Milwaukee. Typically in the US, Korean cuisine has never catered to American palettes. Therefore, the Korean food movement happened much slower than Chinese, Japanese, Thai, or even Vietnemese food. Even in Maryland, where there is a sizable Korean population, Korean restaurants weren't all that popular. It was mostly for younger people who didn't feel like cooking or for family gatherings when a large space was needed (even then, the food served was different from what was on the menu). But as places like L.A. and N.Y started to figure out that Korean food could be popular to non-Koreans, the movement started spreading across the country. In my hometown of Baltimore, there have been at least 10 new Korean restaurant openings in the past few years, all specializing in different kinds of Korean food. If I wanted Korean BBQ, I'd go to the Korean BBQ place. If I wanted grilled pork, I'd go to the grilled pork place. Same with Soondoboo, Korean Fried Chicken, Bibimbap, etc. Milwaukee, however (as people have told me), is some years behind the bigger cities. Nothing wrong with that, but ethnic food still has room to grow in this town. That being said, Stone Bowl is a step in the right direction. Yes, it doesn't necessarily feel like an authentic Korean restaurant, but there's nothing wrong with that. Especially since that means that the service will be more americanized (Typical Korean restaurants will have seemingly bad service, because they wait for you to call them to your table) and the decor will be more suitable for going out. Not only that, but the servers are all english speakers, which is not always the case at more authentic places. The food was above average. We had the "stone bowl," otherwise known as the dol sot bibibap and the soondubu for the main meal with the seafood pancake as our appetizer. The soondubu was a little watery and not as spicy as normal, but I take that to be the norm here. The bibimbap, however, was definitely above average. The rice was a little too watery which contributed to a more mushy texture, but the quantity and quality of the vegetables more than made up for it. The price was also reasonable for what I was getting. I've also had much worse. The seafood pancake was actually my favorite and is probably something I would get again. My least favorite part of the meal was the banchan and the soup. Miso soup? Odd. Anyway, the banchan is the spread of side dishes that come out with the meal. It's supposed to be shared by the table and should just as good as the rest of the meal. But here, the banchan comes out as individual sides, as if you were ordering BBQ. Not something I've ever experienced before, but again they're catering to a different demographic. The only thing they need to do is serve kimchi for free. That's a no brainer. In fact, there should be a few different types of kimchi to share. Bottom Line: Stone Bowl is a great place to foray into Korean cuisine. Much more friendly and accessible than a typical Korean restaurant, while still maintaining much of the traditional flavors and style of Korean food. I will visit again when I crave Korean, but probably not a place I will frequent all that often. The lack of competition also probably adds a star and half. Hopefully, this restaurant will be a segue into many more Korean restaurants opening in the area.
