Went for happy hour with the wife Great happy hour specials. 1/2 off most appetizers and all drinks. From sushi to flank steak to Mai Thais. Fu Manchu was aces. Sake flights. #1 & 2 Next we ordered the flank steak. Prepared medium. It was tasty. And chicken teriyaki. Yum. Pros - great location on trendy Milwaukee Ave; great service; cheap happy hour specials

Been here a few times, I recon it's about time to share a review! Always had excellent experiences here, good service, good food, a solid sushi experience in Milwaukee. Being next door to another sushi establishment, I would choose Sake Tumi most of the time (next door is a little more on the fancy high-end side). Great happy hour deals on both drinks and food, the food happy hour deals are always more enticing for me - so a good thing to note. Definitely order the crab rangoon! By far my favorite thing had on the menu, also try one of the sushis with salmon skin, it sounds odd but is delish! It was sold to me as the "bacon of the sea on sushi", who doesn't want something bacon like on their sushi? I would also recommend the sesame chicken if you're looking to venture away from sushi options. Excellent spot! Be sure to check it out next time you are craving sushi!

Great miso soup, edamame and pepper steak. I highly suggest the small plates! Best Asian fusion cuisine in Milwaukee

If I could give six stars I would! The lunch I had today was worth at least one full star. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a tasting event here to choose some new menu items. So I started my meal today with one of the winners; Salmon Pinwheels stuffed with Green Olives on a Bed of Green with Sesame Stick Croutons and Asian Dressing. The salty green olives were a nice balance to the fish oils in the salmon. And the bed of fresh greens was topped with Daikon sprouts with added a nice crunch when paired with the sesame sticks. But Sake Tumi didn't stop there in wowing me. My entree was the Sexy Scallop rolls, and they have some of the best flavors I've had in a Japanese restaurant. Panko crusted scallops were rolled with a small dollop of fresh cream cheese and a healthy portion of equally fresh avocado. The always tasty tempura flakes were also rolled inside. This was then topped with a thin egg wrap which was covered, really covered (see photo) with the most tender and well seasoned shreds of scallops. Who knew you could shred scallops, let alone make them taste so amazing. And a tangy wasabi mayo adorned the entire dish. Service at the bar was spot on and they even changed the television channel to the Brewers game at my request. Quite frankly, if I had the time, I could have sat there all afternoon. But I really needed to write this review (and get back to work)!

Sake Tumi is the bomb diggity of sushi since Nanakusa closed. Mostly because their sushi is great compared to other places I've been and their happy hour is out of this world. If you are looking for a deal, go here! The happy hour is 2-6pm M-F I believe and ALL DRINKS and SMALL PLATES (apps) are HALF OFF. They really push the deal too (aka, they will ask you at 5:55pm if you want to order anything else since the happy hour is ending).

I Just Don't Get It For a non seaside city Milwaukee has really good sushi choices. Izumi's is excellent on the north and Kyoto is as excellent on the south. There's lots of very good places...and then there's Sake Tumi. I joined the throngs of downtown eatery enthusiasts as Milwaukee Street was being developed into a restaurant row. Therefore, my first experience was years ago. It was decidedly AVERAGE. There's was no reason to avoid it or to make a special trip. I was recently downtown so during a late lunch break my colleague and I decided to grab lunch nearby. His choice was Sake Tumi which I thought I owed another try. After being seated at 1:53 PM we were given dinner menus. We asked the server for lunch menus to which he responded, "Our lunch menu ends at 2." I showed him the 1:55 time on my phone and said, "it's not yet 2." He responded that he couldn't change the "policy" without the manager's approval--then he walked toward the kitchen. At 1:59 he returned with lunch menus. The three maki lunch special was $17 making it $6 more expensive than the aforementioned places. My colleague ordered it and i opted for a tofu soup with added beef. My soup was quite good and would have been excellent but for the floating clotted clumps of beef that were both gristly and overcooked. My colleague's maki lunch was pathetic looking. At best it would be described as skimpy and looking unappetizing. It was $17 worth of shortchanged rice with a modicum of salmon. The server was pleasant and did a good job. The policy of ignoring the central daylight time zone was weird. The soup was worth having again sans viande. The maki was just silly. Based upon the other reviews I might be back to get toasty with the masses at happy hour--but afterwards I'd be off to a really good sushi place.

I happened to stop by during happy hour, which, of happy hours I've seen - they have a pretty good deal: half off their entire drink menu and half off their small plates, making for a great afternoon and a variety of choices. Considering that I had to go to work shortly after this meal, I opted out of a drink, but ordered the Buddha pouch, soft shell crab Kara age, gyoza dumpling and crab ragoon. The Buddha pouch was by far my favorite - there were so many flavors in the curry sauce that came with it, and it was a good portion. The crab ragoon was also fabulous- the perfect shell to filling ratio and the sauce was superb. The dumplings, and soft shell crab were just ok - not much flavor, nothing to write home about. My server (the bartender) was great - knew the menu pretty well and had some good recommendations. Overall, it was a pleasant meal. So why the four stars? I sat by the window. Five minutes after I sat down, the person I assume was the manager started washing the window it was sitting at. Seriously? I haven't worked in the service industry long but even I know you don't do that...

This place was pretty cool. A very elegant place with a large menu. You are bound to find something for everyone here. One thing though: beware of the "aquarium" themed bathrooms. They really don't mesh into the rest of the restaurant. You feel like you accidentally walked into an underage club. The tuna takari was one of those dishes (appetizers) that I want to eat a few nights of the week. Sauteed with vegetables, this dish was not only delicious, but felt like I was giving my body something it very much needed. The rolls were delicious- we went with the mexican specialty roll with jalepenos. It was amazing in flavor. The rice in all of our rolls fell apart, but I would always prefer that opposed to rice that's hard as a rock. I didn't have my favorite seaweed salad here, but it was still fresh and satisfied me. All in all, I would definitely return. Everything was resonable priced. Good spot for sure.

I've had a lot of sushi in Milwaukee, but Sake Tumi is definitely a new favorite of mine! After I found a Groupon for $20 off I decided to go check it out. I had called ahead to make a reservation because it's a Saturday and I assumed they'd be slammed but I got in at the time that I wanted with no problem. The parking wasn't great, but hey, it's downtown. The restaurant itself is very trendy and beautifully styled, but the atmosphere is perfectly relaxed and casual. The staff were all so kind and the manager was such a nice guy! I had a Lucky Buddha beer, miso soup, crab Rangoon, Tigers Eye, Nigiri & Sashimi Omakase, and the tempura fried ice cream. The beer was great, it had almost a German taste to it, with a sweetish finish. The miso soup was average, it tasted just like it would in any other restaurant. The crab rangoons and Tigers Eye were exceptional. The Nigiri & Sashimi combination was beautifully prepared and delicious! If you go, try to save some room at the end! The tempura fried ice cream was so good! A ball of vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two slices of cake, fried, and drizzled with chocolate. It was so pretty and so good! Overall, Sake Tumi was a great restaurant and a must-try if you're in Milwaukee and looking for sushi!

Personally this is some of the best sushi in MKE. They have a spectacular happy hour and I've always had great service there. The bartender Tom holds it down second to none. Parking is sometimes scarce but its always worth the walk. Try the Shang-Hai Black Pepper Steak! Way to good and its a non sushi item! Love this place!

I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars but I really liked this place. I bought a groupon and 4 of us visited Sake Tumi on a Saturday night. We made a reservation and our table was ready for us when we arrived. The food was really good. Nicely displayed and very tasty. The other 3 in my party agreed with me. Our waitress, Lisa, was knowledgeable and friendly and contributed to our overall enjoyment of the evening. My wife and I will definitely return. There were some comments on Yelp about the bathrooms and the fact that they have "a life of their own". In the Men's room, instead of seeing a reflection of yourself in a standard-issue mirror, you look into a large live fish-tank. I thought it was very unusual but in a good way. Their bathrooms are definitely worth seeing.

Okay, I'm a fan. The sushi here is not going to blow you away but it's good and as fresh as it's going to get in Wisconsin. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef made the experience worthy of a 4th star. Why did I not ask his name?!? Anyway, he offered to make any roll we wanted regardless if it was on the menu. Let me be honest...he really won me over with his comment, "...it's good for sushi in Wisconsin" when referring to the special rolls. YES, finally someone who understands! The gorilla roll was great. Boyfriend loved the philly and shrimp tempura rolls. I asked him to add avocado to a cucumber roll and it was perfect and simple. We'll definitely be back and are already planning our next trip to try the soup and bbq.

Best happy hour in the city, for sure. Half off whole drink menu and half off appetizers. Who can go wrong with that?! Seriously great for grabbing a drink after a day of hell at the office, yeah? Anyway, I've been coming here for years, it's my favorite sushi in Milwaukee. Godzilla and the Kai fire specialty rolls are my favorite.

  • Valerie J.

Bottom line: I think this place is overrated. I looooove sushi and I find the sushi here unremarkable and kind of average. The servings are large, but the food is expensive! The best thing I've had on the menu is the eel (one of my favorites) and I can't even say that particularly stood out. My experience is limited to lunch so maybe dinner is better, but the lunch crowd is kind of schnooty. My lunches for one person have been easily close to $30. I just feel like there are a lot of other places in town where I can get superb sushi for a lot less of a hit to my pocket book.

I'm eating at Saki Tumi restaurant today for my birthday and I received bad news that I can't use my birthday coupon. Bummer! The manager says it can't be used because I'm ordering during happy hour although, it's not stated on the coupon. I wanted to explain to the manager, LJ, that these exclusions should be included in the birthday coupon, but according to the waitress he was too busy to speak with customers. I won't be back here again! What manager doesn't have time to respond to customers?

Not going to lie, sushi in Wisconsin felt like a gamble and we only ended up at Sake Tumi because I heard they had a happy hour. Wow! Such a good choice. We tried the crab rangoons, charred escolar, deep-fried soft shell crab, rare tuna and vegetables, sashimi plate, sesame chicken, and a couple of the maki rolls. Everything (even the chicken which I kind of thought might be boring) was sooo delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Atmosphere was modern romantic. Eat, drink Sake, and go here.

  • Lara K.

The food was very good. We had salmon and the maki. I don't like how so many of the entrees came with cream cheese, though. The service was wonderful and not too busy on a Wednesday evening. The happy hour specials (2-6 pm) were still on so we were able to get an appetizer for half off. I'll have to come back to try the one entree that is only available on Friday & Saturday evenings!

I'm sorry to say it, because I wanted to like this place, and because I was really hungry when we went, but the sushi just wasn't that good. This was several months ago, on a Sunday night.

Excellent food. I've never been there before but went with my online deal. Both the food and the prices far exceeded my expectations. The waitress, although new, recommended the Thai spring rolls which is amazing. I dont generally like spring rolls but this was one of the best. Everyone was friendly and with both the food and prices being great I will definitely frequent this place often.

The first time I went here was during a job interview, and perhaps it was because the setting and being unfamilar with the menu, but my experience was average. I got the job and decided to give Sake Tumi another chance. Thank goodness I did as it is my favorite sushi place for lunch and dinner. Since march I've dined here 20 + times and have never been disappointed. The happy hour (3 - 6 p.m.) can't be beat with 1/2 price small plates and the entire drink menu is 1/2 off. I do think they need another bar tender after 5 p.m. as a few times I've waited 5+ minutes to get the tender's attention to get me another glass of wine. The variety of rolls is good, my favorite specialty roll is the Godzilla and traditional is their spicy tuna. All-in-all Sake Tumi is Solid sushi spot!

  • Natalie N.

Hmmm. I am on the fence about this one. It's not the best sushi I have ever had but it's my favorite in Milwaukee if that makes any sense.. I also enjoyed their pepper steak very flavorful and a solid choice. My husband hasn't warmed up to sushi yet so that's his "go to" dish. I had visited the restaurant with friends who knew one of the chefs at the restaurant They made us rolls are not on the menu. They were beautifully plated but very citrus-y which seemed to clash and did not like the combination with the sushi at all. I think I would stick with their normal rolls that are decent. Overall a solid choice for the area but not my favorite place. Nice restaurant and good atmosphere.

I decided to give Sake Tumi a try as I had eaten at Umami Moto the night before. I ha the sashimi omakase (for $30) a reasonable price. The fish was OK, service at the sushi bar was decent, but the wasabi was terrible. Really? Bad wasabi? I have never had wasabi that wasn't spicy...at Sake Tumi...I found the exception. The wasabi simply tasted like paste...I did not enhance the experience in any way. I won't be back.

  • Gary T.

Maki rolls served with old dry rice...sashimi cut very thick...teriyaki chicken serve red to my friends was processed chicken very tough. Tempura served to my other looked very good. This would have been a one star disappointing experience had it not been for the knowledgeable bartender who served us as we waited for our table, she was excellent.

Interesting that the reviews are so polarized. We visited early afternoon on a Monday. There were more customers in the restaurant than we expected but everything flowed well enough. My thoughts & reflections: We mainly ordered from their 'small plates' section. We also had a sushi roll.

Sake Tumi is a successful blend of Japanese and Korean cuisine. As someone that eats a lot of these types of food, I am naturally skeptical that the quality of either will suffer because of this. But that is not the case here. The spicy tuna roll was really well prepared as was the crab rangoon. I also got a miso soup which was just as good as any other Japanese restaurant that I've ever been to. For my meal I got bulgogi which was cooked perfectly w/ a side of cooked onions, peppers, and mushrooms. It tasted just like the way my friend's mom's bulgogi did, and I was pleasantly surprised. The desserts all looked good (I was eying the fried ice cream), but lactose intolerance prohibited me from trying any of the items on this part of the menu - damn you!

I thought this place was totally awesome. It's located near a lot of really awesome, historic buildings and businesses in Milwaukee, so it's cool to just walk around the area if you have time. We were greeted promptly and warmly and seated right away. I really liked the ambiance of the place - very warm, subdued and modern. We were greeted by a server promptly and he took drink orders immediately. The menu was large and they have a ton of great signature maki. We tried a bunch of stuff and my favorites were the Godzilla and the Buddy Fried. SOOO good. I highly recommend them! The service kind of lagged in the middle of our meal, but that was totally fine. We were only there for about 75 minutes and we really loved the food. I would love to go back the next time I'm in Milwaukee. Yummy!

  • Sadie T.

The food was good, but pricey. Very upscale/trendy atmosphere. I was satisfied with taste and impressed with presentation, but the bill truly reflects downtown Milwaukee location more than the food itself. My favorite remains Kyoto.

We went for Dining Week and got their lunch menu. Tiny portions and terrible pricing. I firmly believe that if a restaurant participates in Dining Week and offers lunch/dinner deals, those deals should be cheaper than the regular non-Dining Week value for the same menu item. Not so with SakeTumi. The lunch portions were "slimmed down." Which meant that if you had the Buddha Pouches for Dining Week, you got half the amount of Buddha Pouches - barely enough for 2 bites. Really? What's the point of participating in Dining Week if you aren't giving your customer a deal? Both appetizer and entrees were so tiny, my partner and I felt like we barely ate. Then there was the dessert. Nothing special - and they ran out of what we wanted (matcha ice cream) and instead we got...cake. You can have better sushi for less at Kiku's next to Grand Ave Mall - see my Kiku's review. The saving grace is the location and MAYBE atmosphere, if you're looking for a downtown happy hour-type place. Obviously, Kiku's doesn't get any points for location/atmosphere, but if you're looking for abundant and generous servings of sushi at great prices, don't go to SakeTumi.

Although my heart lies with Umami as my favorite sushi spot, I find myself at Sake Tumi twice as often. I'll attribute it to the fact that all my friends love it here as well as the atmosphere being just a tad bit more laid back than Umami. All the servers I've had there (with the exception of one friendly man) are the bring what you want and leave you alone type which is maybe what they're going for. They're good of course but I guess it's an added bonus when a server actively engages in your meal choice decision. They're very accommodating which is a plus. I've been 45 minutes late for a reservation before with a large group of girls and they've made it work no problem :) It also helps that they have the best calamari and an amazing caterpillar roll that's just slathered in my favorite of all time eel. Yummm. Recommend this place!

Wide variety of pan Asian options. Great when you're going out with a mix of people who don't all like raw fish. The sashimi is good, not excellent, but compared to the prices next door at umami moto, this place is much preferred. Staff is very friendly and service is prompt.

I met a group of friends here for a birthday gathering around 4:30 on a thursday, so this is a testament to their "happy hour" offerings. I'm assuming normal service would be just as good (if not better). SO, happy hour?! Half off all cocktails and small plates. that's right kiddos! 4pm till 6pm, HALF OFF. That's a lot of 'Tinis to suck down, but I managed three for a cool 6 dollars each. And the drink menu has a lot of cute concoctions. Food-wise, the small plates are a standard array of asian fusion fun. I had the sashimi sampler (eh), the tiger eyes or something similar (stuffed squid, awesome), and the pepper steak, cooked rare, which was absolutely mind blowing. Like Buttah, in the words of Michael Meyers. The atmosphere here is really cute, too. It's not often I go for Milwaukee St swank, but this time it worked. Our server seemed a little hassled and inept, however, and it took more than a few occasions to flag her down before our 6 pm happy hour deadline wore down. You're damn right I ordered another 'Tini at 5:55. All in all, a great place with a great happy hour special!

The happy hour is great since tthat all appetizers are half price and there is sashimi in that column!! Yeah, such a deal. I love Japanese food and have been to loads of them through the 3 years in the US, but seriously, this place has the BEST Dragon roll I ever had. If you are a big fan of Unagi (Eel) like me just try it out.

Love Sake Tumi! When I lived in the Third Ward, we would eat there just about once a week. Really good fusion Asian cuisine. Excellent sushi, very good Korean dishes. One of my absolute favorites from Sake Tumi is the signature Sexy Scallops roll; scallops, cream cheese, avocado and tempura flakes served with wasabi mayo. It's also covered with thin tomago-style egg wraps over the top of the roll. SO GOOD.

We got here early enough to take advantage of happy hour where drinks and appetizers are half off. The xrated lemon drop martini was delicious. We ordered the crab rangoon appetizer and my hubby had a miso soup. The crab rangoon was nice, light and flavorful. The miso had a lot of green onions, some seaweed and tofu along with the broth. It was done well. We ordered the Viva la Mexico maki, the spicy tuna maki, the negi hamachi maki, 2 pieces of yellowtail, 2 pieces of smoked salmon and 2 pieces of blue fin tuna. Everything was tasty. The viva la mexica maki was light and refreshing with well balanced ingredients. The spicy tuna maki was nice and not too spicy. The pieces of sushi were good but not spectacular. The tempura fried pound cake and vanilla ice cream we ordered for dessert was super delicious. We had good service from the time we stepped in to the time we left. Our server was friendly and efficient.

Can't go wrong with their half-price sushi and wine list on Sundays! The Firefly and the Viva La Mexico rolls are super tasty, and they've got an awesome Cabernet Savignon from NZ that's super awesome with sushi. Miso soup was good, but nothing spectacular. It is more laid back than the close neighbor Umami Moto, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Hey y'all.....happy hour monday through friday from 2PM-6PM is one of the best deals in brewtown! Arrived just about 5PM on a busy Friday....not many tables were open but the host showed up immediately and seated us. The service was just as prompt and very friendly and helpful. We had been to the happy hour so we knew the drill. Eat, drink and be very merry till 6PM ;) With the exception of the teriyaki chicken all of the small plates were scrumptious with a few standouts: Buddhas Pouch - a variety of veggies twisted up in a fried wonton perched on a yummy curry sauce was fantastic. Shanghai Black Pepper Steak served with a mound of rice with scallions is a delight...spicy and the steak is perfectly cooked just about medium rare. My husband also raved about the soft shell crab appetizer.... We indulged in a couple of cocktails too....who wouldn't at half price. They are all very good but my personal favorite is the Cherry Blossom....but beware I don't really like cocktails unless they are as sweet as candy so if that is not your taste ask the helpful, knowledgeable server to assist. A great deal and one of our go-to places when we are heading to a Rep play....

We took two of our Japanese visitors here for dinner. They seemed to enjoy the meal and I most certainly did. We had the edamame appetizer and Buddha pouch. The others thought the edamame could have been saltier but it was fine for me. Two of us had tempura shrimp and vegetable while the others had one of the Maki dishes - can't remember which and seemed to enjoy it. The tempura was excellent, not too heavily battered and served steaming hot. Very ample serving! The service was a little slow but we were in no hurry and maybe the servers sensed that. Will definitely visit this place next time we are in downtown Milwaukee. Location was great for us as it was a very nice walk from our hotel on the other side of the river.

Saketumi is a japanese/korean fusion restaurant. Saketumi is my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee! Best sushi I have ever had!!!! Everything starting with the service, trendy/intimate atmosphere, food and drinks will never disappoint. Every time my it is excellent! The service is amazing. Friendly and helpful with the menu if you are not familiar with the different sushi. They take call in orders as well. I suggest reservations for weekends. It gets super busy! They have a really Tastey specialty martinis and cocktails menu as well as a full bar. I've had almost everything on the menu here except the raw sea food and it's all really delicious! The Saketumi mixed green and asparagus salad w/ a Ginger vinegarette is a great 1st course. tempura shrimp, chicken, veggies are really good. Sesame chicken if your not to adventurous. The teriyaki chicken, veggie, tenderloin is amazing! Super fresh sea food and meat. Possibly the best chicken I've ever had super tender and moist. California maki is my personal favorite. But the spider maki and tempura shrimp maki is also delicious and highly recommended. The sushi is perfectly rolled and will never disappoint! Finally desert is a must! The Molten lava cake w/ green tea ice cream is out of this world good!

Went to Saketumi. They usually open on sunday at 4 PM went there at 3:30 PM. The staff let us in 30 min before they open at 3:30 and offered us drinks until the kitchen is ready. they were very nice. So this was very positive from the start. Took the Cashew Crusted Halibut took a picture of it and uploaded it. the fish was fresh and healthy. It was good. Took Hwaedupbop the raw ahi tuna was high quality Ahi it was redish as it is supposed to be and the texture + smell very good (check pic). The sauce kochujang was spicy and very good. the only thing i would recommend is adding less onions there were too much onion for the amount of the dish but overall I would re-order the dish and maybe substitute the onion with more sprout and cucumber it is important when i rate, it is usually prices vs quality - a 5 star meaning this is in consideration to the price. We have paid for 3 dishes 2 Halibut + Hwaedupbop including a desert, and Wine and 2 soda drinks and tips (20%) and amount of 90 $ which is NOT expensive for 3 fresh plate of seafood took picture check them out

I've been to Sake Tumi once and I will definitely be returning! I had the Godzilla maki which our server recommended and it was my favorite out of the 3 rolls we tried. Our service was great. The only thing I would have liked to be different is how close the tables were to eachother. I almost felt like I was in the couples conversation next to us. Otherwise, excellent considering Milwaukee doesn't have many sushi options.

Ambiance: Hipster Paris Hilton BS vibe. We had the most unfortunate seat in the house. Our group was upstairs in a small private room. It was like eating in someone's hot stuffy attic. The air conditioning wasn't on and we all sat there MELTING while we waited for our server to acknowledge us & bring us water. See below. We sat at a folding table covered in a cheap white restaurant table cloth. Pure class. Beverages: Mai-Tai Cocktail. When I took my first sip I almost choked. It was so strong it tasted like gasoline. This was clearly not a well made well balanced cocktail. There was not a whiff of orange juice. I could barely choke it down. Food: Tempura Green Beans - When they first brought them instead of green beans I thought they brought us okra. The beans were that caked in batter. Tempura is suppose to be crisp and light. Based on the texture of the thick soggy batter I would have guessed they were coated in pancake batter. They were over salted and the dipping sauce was bottled Oyster sauce. I could have made a better version of these. King Kong Roll - Ribeye cooked medium rare (it wasn't), cucumber, avocado, spicy crab, tobiko (I didn't see any), with a topping of tempura flakes, shrimp, scallops, octopus, squid, masago, garlic butter and sriracha mayo. The "topping" was a disgusting mess of soggy tempura flakes in clumps, and what is clearly the left over bits and pieces of the seafood. The sriracha mayo, if there was any on the plate, was not the creamy luscious sauce it is at other sushi joints. I paid $16.00 for this piece of ill-rolled crap. My cat could have made a better sushi roll. Spicy Tuna Maki - 6 dinky shriveled rolls sans the tempura flakes that were promised on the menu. By the way this roll was $7.00, that means I paid $1.16 for each less than 1inch diameter, 1/2 inch thick roll. A retarded goldfish could have made a better Maki. Service: Bitchy, incompetent, lazy waitress who had more attitude than a 13 year old going through puberty. Clearly she knew she was getting an 18% tip no matter what she did since we were a large party and gratuity was automatically included. I've gotten more attention at a serve yourself buffet then from this piece of work. Let's start the list of transgressions: *Upon initial seating we were left in the private room for 10 minutes before she even bothered deign us with her presence. As mentioned above we were SWELTERING. We were dying for water. She waltzes in says "Oh it's hot in here, let me see what I can do. I'll have someone bring waters." Then she waltzed back out. *blink, blink* Finally someone brought us waters and she eventually returns to take drink orders. It took her another 10 minutes to get those drinks to the table. The unbearable temperature in the room was never addressed. *She flat out refused to bus the table of empty drink glasses and bottles, plates, etc. When we started running out of room, one of the gentlemen at our table took the bottles off the table and put it next to him on the bench seat. His seat was right in front of the door. Our theory was she would see them when she walked in and remove them. So the first problem with that theory is she would have actually do her job and come in and check on us. When she finally returned, she saw them took only two of them and left. I guess to assert her dominance over us? Okay She-Ra whatever, we just want you to clear our table once in a blue moon. *After starters were served she started bringing out everyone's main dishes....without clearling the dirty dishes. She just started shoving the new dishes onto the cramped table. When I started to reach for a dirty empty plate to hand her she abruptly walked away. My boyfriend got her attention and she said "IS THERE A PROBLEM?!?!!?" Yes we replied can you take the dirty plates off the table so we have some room for our dinners. She acknowledged this request by silently walking up to the table, yanking a single dirty plate off and walking away without a word. *Instead of checking regularly on our table she stood within 10 feet of the room drinking a beverage, joking with the other wait staff and generally ignoring us. *Towards the end of the meal the birthday boy ordered another drink which he never received. When she finally decided to come back and start wrapping up this fine dining experience she asked if anyone wanted another drink or anything. Birthday boy said, I had ordered another drink like 15 minutes ago but it never came. Her response was "Oh I thought someone else already brought that to you." Yeah....see, this is where checking in on us instead of flirting with the busboys would have caught that issue. He told her not to bother with the drink at this point and she just shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal. *It took another 10 minutes to get us our bill. Bathrooms: There is only 1 stinking stall in the women's room. Good luck if you need to use it. Final Verdict: NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL I DINE HERE.

I have mixed feelings about my meal at Sake Tumi, but overall I felt it was not worth the money. The waitstaff also seemed inexperienced. Here are some pros and cons: Pros: 1. The atmosphere was very nice and felt like a classic Japanese restaurant you would see in a movie or TV show. 2. They had an extensive and interesting sake menu, and the bartender was very knowledgeable about the different offerings. 3. They were able to seat 9 people without a reservation in about 15 minutes at 5:30 on a Saturday night. 4. Even the basic hot sake was delicious. 5. The staff was very friendly. Cons: 1. I ordered the edamame and it was just okay. It seemed either a little old or a little overcooked. 2. I ordered a Viva la Mexicana sushi roll for $16.00, so i was expecting something really good. Instead, my roll included a white fish that I didn't think was supposed to be included according to the menu that was very slimy and fatty. I ended up pulling it out of all my sushi pieces. Even without the fish I didn't like, I felt the sushi was nothing too exciting. I have had much better for a lot less money. 3. After abandoning my sushi roll midway, I tried my friend's sesame chicken. While it was tasty, it was very average. 4. The waitstaff told us it was not possible to have the bill split 8 ways, but said that we could all pay with different credit cards if we indicated which dishes went on which cards, so we decided to do that. It took, i kid you not, 45 MINUTES for the waitress to figure out our bill and return with the check. We literally sat there doing nothing and eating nothing for 45 minutes waiting for the bill. When she returned, she had split the bill 8 ways, even though she claimed she couldn't when we asked at the beginning of the meal.

Drop $100 for for awful sushi. Rice was undercooked, and completely lacked flavor. I felt ripped off.

I've been to Saketumi 4-5 times now, and I'm pretty conflicted. They do have my favorite roll in town, the Spicy Negi Sake Maki, but aside from that everything is pretty average. The food is decent, and probably priced well for being on Milwaukee St, but I guess based on the setting I've always expected more. Service has typically been good, and the restaurant itself is nice. I also like that they carry Hitachino White Ale. It's a place that I'm sure I'll return to, but won't do it with any urgency.

I had lunch with a friend there today. I hadn't been back in over a year but was excited to try their sushi as I remembered it to be quite good. To be fair, I am by no means a sushi fanatic but I do enjoy it from time to time. The atmosphere was decent even though we were seated right next to two tables of twosomes. The one thing I would say though is that the fish smell was evident throughout our time there. I get that its a sushi restaurant but shouldn't there be a way to mask it? We had the lunch combo which got us three rolls. The roll options were limited on this but it was far more affordable then getting rolls one at a time. The rolls were good but nothing special. I would've liked to have seen a combo of salad, soup and a roll as an option (as is often the case in sushi restaurants). Overall it was a good lunch but not great.

After having lunch at Saketumi, I am beyond shocked to read all the good reviews this place has gotten. Let me start by saying the restaurant has a cool vibe, great outdoor seating, it wasn't crowded when I went in for lunch, and my server was attentive, friendly, and extremely pleasant. This is the first sushi place I've ever seen that did not have sashimi on the menu. That probably should have been my first clue... I ordered the edamame. It was terrific. But that's where the praise stops. I couldn't decide between the dragon roll and the caterpillar, so I ordered half of both (I appreciated being able to order a half roll). Normally caterpillar is my favorite roll - however, it was unbelievably bland. The roll was loose and kept falling apart, I could barely locate the tiny chunks of avocado, and the eel was thin, rubbery, and cold (since eel is cooked, in my experience it is usually served warm). As for the dragon roll, it just tasted off. I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with it, so I tasted each individual component and could only guess that the fish wasn't fresh and that the roll itself was poorly composed - the ingredients just didn't taste good together. This roll was also very loose and I couldn't manage to eat any of it without it first falling apart in the soy sauce. While both my plates were very pretty and drizzled artistically with some kind of unidentifiable sauce, I consider it nearly unforgivable that nowhere on either sushi plate was I given wasabi and ginger. What kind of sushi place is this??? I am an absolute sushi freak but I just couldn't finish my lunch... it was awful. Another reviewer hit it on the head when they called this "grocery store sushi." I would go a step lower and say this is closer to "gas station sushi." Yuck. I can only hope the fish is normally fresher than this, and that the sushi chef was having an off day. I can see how this would be a great place to go if you are looking for a scene, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is serious about good sushi.

There are surprisingly many decent sushi places in Milwaukee, and you might be able to pay slightly less elsewhere, but this place is hip, attractive, and has great service. There are several other reasons to hit Saketumi. The first is that they have lots of menu items to please the non-raw set -- it's not just a Japanese place, they also have some Korean offerings, teriyaki dinners, great appetizers. (I was there July 27, 2009 and it appeared they had removed the kobe beef- not sure if it's temporary or not). The second reason to visit Saketumi is that they have half price bottles of wine on Sunday and Monday. The third reason: they have the best spicy tuna roll in Milwaukee, perhaps the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had. The reasons for the missing star: it's a bit loud in there, and the women's restroom sucks. Sure, the painting on the walls gives something to look at (fish and a merman, I believe), but it really needs a remodel

Oh where to start....first, their decor confuses me. It's like traditional meets modern, but not in a good way. The tables and chairs - traditional, but the vibe and other decor felt modern. And the bathroom mural, while I'm sure it took lots of talent and time, it was not the right forum. I mean who really wants Posidon watch them pee? Usually though, decor doesn't bother me, so I'll move on to service and food. The food was definitely overpriced. I get it, we're downtown, but does a specialty roll really have to cost $16? We chose the King Kong, interesting sounding, but not that good. We also got some traditional maki rolls, which I'll admit had great fish in them and tasted pretty delicious. However service...where should I start? I did go with a very big birthday party, and we were seated on the second level. Our waiter reminded us that we were on the second level and it takes time to walk the stairs and get our orders in and back to us. Okay, that's fine, we understand, but he literally reminded us at least half a dozen times...before we even ordered food. I'm truly sorry that it's a long trek downstairs, but to make customers feel bad about doing your job? and you're going to get an automatic 18% tip? I've worked in restaurants for a long time, this was just ridiculous behavior. Not to mention how he was really pushy about our drink orders. I think he may have thought he was being cute, but it was uncomfortable. Also when our food came out, and 2/3 of our party was served, he asked exactly what we were missing. I mean didn't you write our orders down? Is there any other part of your job you want us to do? The beer prices were also misstated on the menu, albeit only by .50, it's an annoyance when everybody's total is off just a little. I have a hard time believing it was that hard to get new drink menus printed being that they found the time to update their computers with new prices. They'd probably get another star from me if we had a different waiter, but honestly speaking, I probably won't return. The sushi was overpriced and even if the service was great, it would not warrant the prices.

Was thinking that because it was close to water (Lake Michigan) that the sushi might be tolerable... not so much :( Had much better in LA and am kind of spoiled. Sushi needs to be ultra fresh to be good and this tasted like week old frozen stuff...

When I first moved to Milwaukee, we went here for lunch and ordered a few rolls and bibimbop. The bibimbop was not very good (no egg on top) and only vaguely resembled the real deal. The kimchi they served us looked like it had been watered down (perhaps for people with weaker palates?), and was bland. The rolls were massive with way too much rice. I know people complain a lot about how some japanese restaurants having small rolls, but these were just ridiculously large. I ordered the tuna roll, the spicy tuna roll, and an order of hirame. If I had to quantify the ratio of fish to rice, I would say 30 to 70. Not to mention the fish did not taste fresh or even properly cleaned. The tuna still had that overt fishy taste/smell. My hirame was cut so thick it was hard to eat. In any case, I would not recommend this place...

Recently went here for my husband's birthday dinner, We went on a Thursday during their happy hour deal, which is 1/2 off drinks and all appetizers. What a deal! The mango martini is ridiculious! I could drink those all day. My husband had one with Captain Morgan and blood orange, that he poorly tried to re-create at home, he liked it so much. I guess we will have to go frequently for these drinks alone. Food is fantastic! We tried quite a few things. I will touch on the hits (all were, but we had to pick favorites). The buddha pouches are insanely tasty! The curry mixed with these perfectly cooked wonton purses are to die for. My husband ordered the spicy calamari, which he orders just about everywhere he can. Without a doubt, he swears this was the best he's had. I got the Hawaiian roll, which is amazing! The only thing I plan to do when I order this again, I will ask for more pineapple topping. It was surprisingly tasty with the roll. My husband ordered the dragon roll, which he loved. It was huge! He then decided to get some Korean bbq, which was awesome! A little kick, and tons of food. Waitress was great, very helpful and informative. Quick too,and gave recommendations if we asked. We will surely be back here, and lucky for me, I work around the corner. Take out!

This is definitely one of the better sushi places in Milwaukee. The decor is modern and contemporary and the sushi is really good quality! They have a wide variety of rolls to choose from. I've been here twice for dinner and was impressed both times. My friends said their lunch wasn't as good though... I like the high ceilings and they have excellent flavored Saki too! I recommend the pear flavor. It's very smooth.

I love this place for sushi! Much better than its neighbor.... I like the decor, the staff, and most importantly, THE FOOD! The Hawaiian roll is excellent, and I have never seen anything like it on another menu. it is a bit pricey, but if I want good sushi, I am willing to pay for it.

Hands down best sushi in mke! Have no idea why folks continually give this place a bad rap. I'm from Seattle where there is a ton of seafood and sushi to choose from and Sake Tumi is a contender with all of them. When my family comes to visit they say the very same thing. The Viva La Mexico, Kai Fire, and Hawaiian rolls are my favs and of course the miso soup. The atmosphere keeps the diner interested but is also tastefully laid out, the staff is always very friendly and professional no matter if there is a rush or not.

I went here recently for a large private party and although the Manager was a jerk to our host, our waiter, Chris, was perfection! He kept the drinks flowing and was super attentive (flirty, even) throughout the evening. We ended up sharing a bunch of sushi rolls, in addition to some appetizers and other items ordered ala carte. Everything was a huge hit and gobbled up expeditiously by the twenty-some lovely ladies in my group. The best part of the night had to be the martinis. They were all so good!! And I can attest to at least three different kinds on the menu. Lastly, regarding the problem with the Manager - he booked another large party in our room at 10pm, when our reservation was for 8:30, and when we arrived told us we had to be out in under 90 minutes. So, a word to the wise: If you are going to book a party here, you might want to make certain how long you have that room for. We were celebrating an event and had no intentions of keeping a time limit on the festivities. We ended up being sat in the upstairs Buddha Lounge, which turned out to be just fine.

We were pretty disappointed with the sushi and time it took to get our food. The sushi was not very fresh and the volcano roll was fishy. I have never had a roll that tasted fishy! The soup, potstickers and spring roll were good - non sushi items. A dinner that should have been 1 hour took almost twice that time. Sake prices are higher than normal also and not much of a selection for a place that is trying to be a premier sushi spot in Milwaukee.

Wish I could say how good the food tasted, but unfortunately I could not get over the thoughtless hostess. She really made my party feel like they were not being taken care of and not welcome in the restaurant. Perhaps I'll try again after Downtown Dining. Perhaps not.

I've been to Saketumi twice for dinner and have been really pleased both times. The first time I ordered the Tuna Tataki and California Maki. The tuna was delicious, not the best I've ever tasted but still great. The Cali roll was nothing to write home about and I wouldn't order another one there. My boyfriend ordered a chicken dish that was one of the night's specials...fantastic! On my second visit I thought I was going to stay away from the sushi menu but after reading a rave review of the Sexy Scallops I decided to give them a try. I wanted another roll a few hours later as a bedtime snack! Yum. The food has been great, but what will keep me coming back is the friendly service. The staff is like, SUPER friendly. I love it.

No doubt decorated and priced to be modern and upscale. We just went for sushi (which I'm not really an expert on). They good selection and also had a good size menu. Our waitress seemed slightly annoyed that we were there. For the three of us, it seemed quite pricey - not sure it was worth it. My other big complaint was that we went during a very cold winter night and sat on the ground floor. It was freezing! As you know, I hate when restaurants make their guests uncomfortable. (Review from December that I never finished)

Now supermarket sushi definitely has its place in my heart, but the food at this place is, um, actually good. Yes, it's also tastefully decorated and well maintained -- and yes, that is reflected in the pricing, but it's really not that much more expensive than comparable places in the vicinity. Granted I'm not going to be going here for lunch three times a week, but this is really perfect for an occasional night when I'm craving sushi. The food was delicious, if a little smaller on the portion size. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful -- in the making me excited and feel good about my meal way. :) Pro-vegetarian tip: ask about the vegetarian gyoza -- not on the menu yet, but oh, it's good!

Fabulous experience all around. I must admit we were gun-shy after a horrible time at Unami Moto just next door. But Sake Tumi delivered everything we could have hoped for. Their 2 -for-1 appetizer happy hour (which we really didn't plan our visit around) was awesome and we ended up ordering our favorites (edamame, spicy tuna roll, pork dumplings) - twice! The portions, as another Yelper lamented, are not all that generous but the HH deal made up for it. The entrees were delicious - the sea bass was truly exceptional as were the shrimp and since everything was so good, we decided to order the chocolate lava cake for dessert. Nothing was a disappointment. To top it off our server, Amanda, was terrific. Can't wait to go back!

Unfortunately I have to start with a complaint, since that is how our expereince at Saketumi began. I was with a large group of ladies for a private party, which had been scheduled far in advance and re-checked by the woman organizing this get together. She did an AMAZING job seeing as our group was almost turned away from our scheduled private setting to the general dining area. With much patience and hard work our leading-lady made it happen with management ... who properly hooked up drinks for our large group as they got our area upstairs ready. The good: The food and drinks were fantastic and our service was really great. Our server definitely worked our group of ladies and made sure we had pleanty to eat and drink the second we were seated until we left. I would definitely suggest dining here - however be careful if you are planning for a large group!

Very meh... First of all, while the restaurant is supposed to be "hip and trendy" but it's just mediocre. It's got a lounge-ish sort of vibe but something is just missing. It's some element that I can't quite put my finger on, but there's definitely something "off" with the vibe of this place. Like it's trying too hard not to be pretentious which makes it exactly that. My companion and I were seated in the loft area which is around the building, up a flight of stairs, tap on the door three times and say a riddle to a troll to get to your table. Of course not really, but it truly felt like an expedition to get to our table which turned out to be in a dark dingy corner in what was probably the worst spot in the place, which was extremely disappointing when I made reservations and for 7 on a Friday and the place wasn't even 1/4 full. So...a whole lotta build-up for nothin'. Unfortunately I had to use the bathroom, but luckily I had a pocketful of breadcrumbs so I could find my way back to the chamber of secrets where the table was. Service was alright, but just barely. Our server had a few recommendations on what to order which was appreciated but it took about 20 minutes to bring a bottle of wine. But I guess that's kind of understandable since the bar is in Narnia, I imagine. Because how else do you explain why it takes so long to retrieve a cheap bottle of grocery store wine (retail $12 at Sendiks -restaurant price $32). On second thought...maybe they actually drove to Sendiks to get it. Ah-ha! Now that makes sense! Sidenote: I certainly expect to pay more at a restaurant but that's generally because someone opens it for you and repours your glass throughout your meal, etc. and not just plops it down in the middle of the table and then scampers away never to be seen again. But hey, alcohol is alcohol regardless of who pours it, right? Whatever... But really what it comes down to is the food. Which is nothing to get excited about. It's just so...eh. I've had much better sushi at other places in and around the Mil that I can't really believe that people are so in love with Saketumi. I mean, when I eat sushi I want to taste the fish. I don't want it to be drowned in sauce and weird stringy fried things. I want it to taste like it was just swimming in the sea minutes before it hits my plate. In fact, i would prefer that it tastes like it swam right onto my plate. Alas, this was not the case. Too heavy on the sauce and "extras" and the fish tasted almost like it was frozen, unfrozen, prepared, refrozen, and then served later. It wasn't horrible and it certainly wasn't great. I have craved sushi from other places before. Literally craved it, dreamt about it all day, longing to get my hands on it after a long day of work. No way with saketumi sushi. Maybe it was just an off day and maybe I'll try saketumi again...most likely if someone else is buying, though. 2 people; 2 specialty rolls, 1 app, 1 bottle of wine about $110

This is my favorite Milwaukee sushi joint! I love the specialty rolls: Fave ever being Sexy Scallops. The atmosphere is chic, loungy. Sexy for a date or evening with the girls. Cozy up with some sake, or my personal favorite, the bankok breeze (with Vodka) for a fresh splash of summer! Check out the crazzzzy ladies room for a real underwater adventure. The only area lacking for me has been from time to time the service, which hasn't always been with a smile. Sit out on the sidewalk on a hot summer night and check out Milwaukee Street action, then meander on to the local establishment for a truly Milwaukee experience.

This was my second and last visit. It was an utter miss in all areas. I had a reservation with a group of ten. We sat upstairs on a brown folding table in a room that was easily 80F. It was a hot day outside but when we were ushered into the private room sweat poured off the entire group. The sever commented as she walked into the room for the first time before anyone even spoke: "Holy... I'll see what I can do about the temp... wow..." Yeah, wow. Our sever was a train wreck. She crammed full plates on top of dirty plates because she didn't clear the table and had her hands full. She left bottles, plates, serving dishes sit for the entire two hour meal and had a tantrum ("Is there a PROBLEM?!") when we began to hand her empty plates and bottles to make room for the next course rather than letting her continue to stack clean on top of dirty plates. When it was time for the check, she spent 15 minutes sipping soda 20' outside the room with her coworkers. Our meal took over two hours and should have taken maybe an hour and fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace. The pacing was horrible. 15-20 minute gaps between drink order, apps, entrees, the check, etc where she just disappeared. The birthday guest never got his second drink. Her response: "Oh, I thought someone else was going to bring it...". Not a "sorry", not a "my mistake", just a big "whatever...". It was the worst service I've had in Milwaukee. Period. On to the food. I'll keep this short. The rolls are flavorless. Bland. Dry. They crumbled upon the plate. I have had better at Pick & Save out of the cooler. I'd love to say the poor service or eating in a sauna on a hard bench over a brown folding card table was the biggest disappointment of the evening... the biggest disappointment was the food. Tempura Green Beans? More batter than bean and the dipping (oyster) sauce left my lips puckering from the salt. How do you screw up a battered green bean? They did. The final straw is the price. I will always pay for a good meal. The price for a dry, crumbling roll... insane. So all that said, why do people eat here? How do they stay in business? I found myself asking that for two hours as the sweat ran down my back. The best I could come up with is it's a place to be seen. Trendy. Hip. Pretty (poorly trained) waitstaff. It sure isn't the food.

like all of omar's restaurant the emPHAsis in on the wrong syLAble. style over substance with style tending to equal over-priced mediocre substance. service: style over substance -- poor. but they look good. food: mediocre. i've never had a sushi roll that stayed intact. i know it can be done! the fish quality is average. price: absurd. if i wanted to pay that much i would go to nanakusa where the food is 10X better. unfortunately nankusa is closed. so for half the price i'll go anywhere else.

Such a hit or miss!!! Sometimes its good sometimes its bad!!! I feel they lack consistency... I have had THE WORST SERVICE EVER HERE, when I brought my mom and sister on like a Wednesday night... They only would allow people to sit in the front of the restaurant, so we had to wait for a table... like 10 minutes later they pull a table out of the back for us to sit at, why they didn't do that in the first place, I don't know... Then we get seated and order, our food was ok but nothing special... Our waitress was a pain about giving us refills, and was clearing our plates before we were even finished with our food, trying to rush us out because she wanted to flip our table, when the people next to us were having a birthday party and the other ones were sipping wine for hours!!! WE WEREN'T EVEN DONE with what was on our plates, and she took my sisters chopsticks and practically picked up my moms plate while she was taking her last bite! WHY NOT OPEN UP THE 2 OTHER FLOORS OF SEATING INSTEAD OF RUSHING CUSTOMERS WHO ARE SPENDING OVER $80 ON SUSHI???

So... What's wrong with being hip and trendy? As long as the food's good too, I have no problem people watching. Their Sushi is fresh and well made with several interesting unique rolls. I have eaten at some really good Sushi places and this one compares very well! I've also had some really good entrees here, especially the Kobe beef.

Loved the trendy hip look. Ordered the miso soup, hot tea and a spicy tuna roll. Exactly what I needed after a long day of flying! Soup was okay, not the best miso soup I've ever had. Spicy tuna roll definitely tasted fresh and was really good.

The ambiance was pleasant enough, our waiter, superb. We ordered maki sushi and some sashimi, all of which was bland, even those that were supposed to be spicy. The sashimi was sliced very thick, and we didn't see a Japanese chef anywhere in the house. The rice in the maki rolls was dry and tasteless. Perhaps the Korean BBQ would have been better, but as a sushi place, I would not recommend it very highly.

It's a shame because the food here is good but the service is TERRIBLE!! It took us at least 30 minutes for our apps and we were there for over one hour before we asked where our meals were. We asked someone and she never came back with an answer. We had to ask twice for a drink refill. Food came and no one asked how the meal was. Terrible terrible service!

Saketumi was the first restaurant in which I encountered sushi. It is still my favorite two years later. Saketumi does it all very well. There is always a greeter when you enter the building who is friendly and accomodating. The chefs have great personalities and seem generally happy to serve you. There are three seating options: the tables on the left as you enter, the sushi bar, and the loft upstairs. I often sit at the sushi bar so I can interact more with the sushi chef. The bar is very clean and offers a view of all your sushi ingredients and a great selection of alcohol if it behooves you. I do recommend sitting in the loft area at least once. Though Saketumi does serve a wide-array of foods, I'd like to dedicate a paragraph solely to the awesomeness that is Saketumi sushi. Last week they had an all-you-can-eat mother's day special. No where else would I trust quality sushi to be served in this fashion but Saketumi. Everything I ate - the specialty maki Godzilla, the spicy tuna rolls, and especially the salmon and tuna nigiri - were up to par with the high expectations that Saketumi instilled in me from the start. I have eaten at Saketumi over 10 times in two years. I've tried so much of their food, tipped back some sake and enjoyed great times with friends and family while dining there. I recommend to all.

Sake Tumi was a great little place right around the corner from my hotel. I was pleased to find it was a non-smoking restaurant among the others nearby. The ambiance was nice and the music wasn't too loud. I didn't love how close the tables were to each other because I felt like I was eating dinner right along with my neighbors. Our server was very knowledgeable, especially about the sake. She answered all of my questions about their sushi too. For those that don't love fish, they have plenty of other options including Korean BBQ, teriyaki and tempura dishes and soups and salads. I ordered the combination and was happy with the chef's choices of 3 nigiri and 1 maki that were provided with the meal. Overall, I think Sake Tumi was a great place for dinner and would likely go back again.

Love this place. The drinks are good and the rolls are innovative and yummy. Had a great seaweed salad--not the traditional marinated wakame kind, but rather a 3-seaweed salad with a lemon miso dressing. Yummy! The warm chocolate cake for dessert is heavenly. Too rich for me to eat on my own, but desserts were meant to be shared, right? I wish my bathroom looked like an underwater paradise, like the women's bathroom here. Though I've had some really outstanding servers, last time I was here, I got a less-than stellar server. I asked his opinions about some of the drinks and received a very unenthusiastic, "I don't know. I don't drink them" with no offer to go find someone who could answer my question. He seemed pretty apathetic in general throughout the night.

Completely medium. Not bad, not great. Had the sushi bento box and it was filling and satisfying, but certainly not 1st rate quality. Good for lunch with workmates, but I wouldn't make a trip for for it.

Was in MKE for a few days and planned to meet up w/ a Chicago friend for our mutual love: sushi. I did a lot of yelping to figure out where we should go, and we settled on this place. Their actual website does NOT do them justice. I was not expecting a hip and cool place. We were both very happy to have stumbled into it, though! The service was delightful (I think our guy's name was Derek), the drinks were good, the sashimi and sushi was excellent, the viva la mexico roll was great, and the dessert was also quite good. I hadn't been eating much the previous days and my normally large gut had apparently shrunken a bit, else I would have gone for another round of a few rolls. And then someone would have had to roll me out of there. I was very pleasantly surprised. Good stuff.

I love love love Saketumi! Let me tell you that when I decided to host Part One of a bachelorette party there, I was completely impressed by their service! They went above and beyond to make us feel special. We rented out the Buddha Lounge (the upstairs semi-private area) which had its own bar and two separate large table areas plus a cool lounge area. I met with the manager twice and discussed menu selection. He went the extra mile to print off special menu cards with the Bride's name and date with the pre-selected options the girls could chose from with ease. They also gave us our own bartender and let us pay separately for drinks to make the splitting process easy at the end of the night. We were able to hook up our own ipod into the system and have our own music playing in our area. There was NO extra charge for any of this! The food was amazing and everyone was impressed by the presentation of the table and the food and the service was top notch attentive. Since that, I have been back 4-5 times and will continue to. Another nice thing is that for only $5 (plus tip) you can valet right in front of the restaurant. The food is great. Literally something for everyone. I usually get an app, miso soup and then share a few specialty rolls with whoever I'm with. I always have a Japanese Beer or sample some sake and the wait staff is great about giving recommendations. I love the whole experience there and will always recommend it.

love love love this place. Great traditional and fusion rolls. They always get it right. Great happy hour too! The atmosphere is great, and even better if you can get a seat on the second floor which is more intimate. The waitstaff is always friendly, and the prices are great for downtown dining.

Maybe I ordered wrong. Maybe my palate is just spoiled from living in Chicago. Not sure. I just found this place to be very meh. The buddah pouches were good, and I was glad to have veggie gyoza. Short of that, the veggie maki were rubbery and flavorless, almost like they were pre-made and refrigerated.

Weak. not worth the price. Go to Sendik's or whole foods for similar quality and lower prices. I wanted to like it but could not.

Went twice. First time was for nigiri & sashimi. Eh... nothing to write home about. But being kind of a sushi snob, the fact that I didn't hate it says something. Second time I went for the Korean fare. Now, I don't know if it's because I had been so deprived of proper Korean food the whole summer while I was in Milwaukee, but I loved and devoured the bibimbap (rice topped with veggies and beef and fried egg and you mix everything with this spicy red pepper sauce - hence, bibim (mix) bap (rice)). Wasn't very authentic (beef was too sweet), but it's still hard to mess up bibimbap. The entrees and lunch specials are very reasonably priced.

This place is a hit or miss. The service is always OK and the rolls can range from oh-so-yummy to bland city. On the plus side, all of the specialty drinks are incredibly fresh tasting and are worth the price.

I've been here 3 times in the past year and even though I LOVE SUPPORTING my sushi joints... I cannot give it 4 or 5 stars.... The sushi was good, don't get me wrong, however service is a bit slow (even when its dead) and the "sushi guys" are dissappointing. Its tough to "not be mean", but seriously. I think Morimoto would sh^t his pants if he would come to this place. The decor is awesome, the location is good, the bathrooms are..... INTERESTING... but you gotta stick to FOOD FOOD FOOD..... and SERVICE. I have NO PROBLEM dropping the $$$ if the food is worth it. I have NO PROBLEM spending $100 on MYSELF WITHOUT ALCOHOL. But I do have a problem when the rolls are full of rice, the fish is not the freshest, and a sushi guy that THINKS he is a true sushi chef TRY to pretend to be one. This has nothing to do with race.... I know a mexican dude that squints his eyes REALLY HARD EVERYNIGHT at BENIHANAS and he simply ROCKS. It's ALL ABOUT THE FOOD, THE PRESENTATION, and SERVICE. I prefer the other sushi joint next to the korean joint closer to the water.

Sake Tumi has some of the best sushi in Milwaukee. I'd say only Izumi's is as good or better in quality of nigiri and maki rolls. Izumi's other dishes are also great, however the duck I ordered one night had FAR too much moison sauce on it, and ruined the delicate flavor of the duck. Shrimp Tempura and Sesame Chicken are both great here, way better than what you'd be used to. One note: I usually don't like maki rolls that use steak or chicken or anything other than fish in them, but the King Kong Roll (Rib-eye cooked medium rare, cucumber, avocado, spicy crab, tobiko and tempura flakes on the inside with tempura flakes and dynamite topping (shrimp, scallops, octopus, squid, masago, garlic butter and sriracha mayo) on the outside) is phenomenal, I really never expected it to be that good, I'd highly recommend it. Service was great, the atmosphere was cool/trendy without making you feel uncomfortable. The only reason I take a star off is because of the price of the Rolls. I understand that a specialty roll in a big city is supposed to cost ~$15, but their specialty rolls are just not big enough to warrant a $15 price tag. They're delicious, but not necessarily the best value.

I enjoy sushi and Saketumi has some of the tastiest and freshest in town. The decor is modern and comfortable. Service was quick both times I've been there. The sashimi sampler I tried was delicious and fresh. My daughter loved the California roll she had. The green tea ice cream was different and topped off the meal appropriately. Prices are reasonable for both lunch and dinner. If you like sushi I highly recommend.

I'm not a sushi expert, like the first reviewer, and I can't say I loved my food here. I enjoy many international cuisines, but I'm starting to think, unfortunately, Japanese is just not one of them. I will say, the service was good, and the atmosphere rather nice. I didn't like how closely we were seated to the nearby diners, (close enough that we could hear their entire conversation and I felt slightly uncomfortable). The tempura veggies and shrimp were delicious, and there was nothing wrong with the sushi, I think I'm just not a big fan. The presentation was all-around beautiful, and the desserts, green tea ice cream and some ice-cream filled dumpling-like sweets, were fantastic. I can't say I will make a point to go back, but I would recommend it.

Maybe it's just cause I moved here less than a year ago, or maybe it is just that I don't give a shit who's trendy or who isn't, but I didn't even notice that characteristic in the restaurant. I think the reviewers that mention this aspect in reviewing a restaurant are ridiculous if not also considered to be hip/trendy themselves. A restaurant should be reviewed on food/service quality and to have the "trendyness" aspect even suggested in a review is preposterous. Ridiculous. I have been to many sushi restaurants and although it is one of my top foods I don't ever consider myself to be an official of any cuisine. That being said, I LOVED this place. The Goyza Ravioli was delicious with perfectly seasoned pork, the pastry melted in my mouth and the glaze was sweet without being overpowering. Next was the soup. I tried the Seafood Bisque first which was spicy and the crab/asparagus was very complimentary. My boyfriend had the clear soup and I was worried I would have a problem detecting any flavor after such a powerful Bisque, but I was wrong. The flavor of the mushrooms/wakame pulled through, which completely amazed me. We decided on the Salmon roe, Sea Urchin roe, Blue Fin Tuna, Yellow Tuna, and Sweet Shrimp. The shrimp was prepared as it should have been with the head fried and deliciously crunchy. It was my first time having sea urchin roe and I was afraid the texture would throw me off but instead it brought such a creaminess to it that paired perfectly with the wasabi. The blue fin tuna and the yellow tuna were a bit stressful for us as the blue fin was listed as "market price" which is a tell tale sign for ridiculously expensive and probably not worth it. On the contrary both were good, but the blue fin was worth the risk as its flavor was subtle but you could actually taste the ocean in it, now if that is not fresh... I don't know what is. The salmon roe was a bit disappointing because we didn't get it, the waiter first didn't hear us order it and then gave us smelt roe, which I am not a fan of because of the texture of the eggs. That being said the waiter was extremely attentive (no glass was left empty for more than a couple minutes), the water was constantly refilled, and he seemed genuinely concerned about our experience. The only thing they could improve on is explanations of fish. At Izumi's we had a waitress spend the time and explain exactly what each fish was, where it was caught, and answered all of our questions. Even if you are an experienced sushi master, it is nice to have that information and caring put forth by a waiter. All in all I had a wonderful time and the bill wasn't too bad either. 5 Nigiri, 1 Roll, 2 Soups, 1 Appetizer, 4 or 5 Alcoholic Drinks and the bill was only $105!!! Not bad!

Though many say this place is overrated and overpriced, I would argue that it is the best quality sushi you can get in Milwaukee. Yes, it is pretty expensive, but worth is for the freshness of the fish. It is definitely trendy and trying to bring Milwaukee to the next level. The service is so-so, but the restaurant is small enough that the sub-par servers can still keep up. Though it does seem a little out of place and doesn't compare with sushi on the coast, it satisfies my california sized sushi cravings while I live here for the summer. I wouldn't recommend this place for larger parties, as it is quite small, unless you are willing to reserve the private upstairs section.

  • Rory N.

My take: Meh. The decor, location, and service are solid, but the sushi is only a-ok. For the price I didn't feel I was getting what I paid for -- very small pieces of fish and the rolls were on the smaller side.

Saketumi, located in downtown Milwaukee just north of the third ward, is an Asian fusion restaurant known for their sushi and many flavors of sake. I don't consider myself a huge sushi fanatic, so if you are like me this isn't the place to go. It made me wish I had only paid a fraction of the price for some Pick-n-Save metromarket sushi right up the street. This observation was gathered from my friends sushi which they kindly offered me. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki with vegetables and rice. I'm not sure if it was just our group but the food seemed to take just long enough where everyone starts questioning 'where is my food?'. This was around 8pm on Wednesday with a fairly packed house. Another complaint is being seated about five feet from the entrance. A few of us were reaching for our coats right after being seated. Anyway, the teriyaki was really bland, the chicken reminded me of something my dad would have made over the grill. The vegetables and rice was tasty, but those to me are secondary and left me wishing the chicken had more kick to it. For prices your looking at $5-7 starters, going up to $10-20 plates. I'd like to wrap this review up with the fact that this is the second time I have been to Saketumi. My first meal there was free and even that was was disappointing. I gave it two tries, but I can't be bothered to visit this place a third time. If your into crossing every sushi joint off your list you sohuld give it a try. Give me the $6 California roll from Pick n Save kthx.

We want to Sake Tumi a few days ago with a Groupon. We had a wonderful waiter who was very attentive and accommodating - he fixed our table, which had a slight wobble, and was prompt with refilling our water and clearing away dishes. As for the food, for an appetizer we had vegetable gyoza. Now, I love gyoza and h e been on a gyoza kick lately. The gyoza at Sake Tumi was not good. They were tasteless -- it was like the outside was over-cooked (soggy) and the inside was undercooked (the texture was a little off). There were hardly any vegetables. Honestly, it tasted like something we could have bought in the frozen aisle at Pick-n-Save. For dinner, we split the nigiri and sashimi dinner and also had a salmon avocado roll. The chef gets to pick the fish. For sashimi, we ended up with tuna, super white tuna, and octopus. We thought that octopus was an odd choice -- and it was sinewy and of course rubbery. I like octopus, but not as sashimi. The tuna was amazing, but the super white tuna was hard and fishy. The nigiri was pretty good, actually -- we liked the choices of fish, especially the hamachi and salmon. As for the roll, of course that was good, since you can't beat salmon and avocado! I'm giving Sake Tumi three stars, because we weren't really impressed by their food. And since it's right next door to Umami Moto, I'd recommend going there instead!

My first impression of this place was good. I like the decor and ambiance. We came around 5:30 so happy hour was still going on, which means all small plates, drinks and some sushi are half off. We started out by ordering a Red Dragon, vodka, pineapple juice, blood orange juice and some other things that I can't quite remember. It was delicious! We just ordered a bunch of little plates and sushi rolls to share. The black pepper beef was wonderful! I could just eat spoonfuls of the sauce itself. We also ordered some pork dumplings which weren't anything special. They were almost soggy. Only half price though so not bad. I then ordered the hamachi negi maki, spicy tuna maki and sweet potato tempura maki (all of which are on the happy hour menu). The hamachi didn't live up to my expectations. It didn't taste fresh, too fishy for my liking. The spicy tuna on the other hand was one of the best i've had. Normally spicy tuna isn't spicy enough but it was perfect! And it was rolled in panko or some type of crunchy breadcrumbs. The sweet potato roll wasn't as good as I was expecting either. The sweet potato was undercooked and it wasn't even tempura fried, they just rolled tempura crumbs with cold sweet potato. Overall, not a bad place if you go for happy hour (2-6pm). They have a great sake selection and a ton of japanese beers.

We used to go to this place for lunch all the time. It's conveniently located, and usually has open space. As far as the sushi goes, it's pretty unremarkable, but hey, it's the closest sushi without having to drive for lunch. But, in the last 2-3 months, they completely re-did the menu, getting rid of the better (more interesting) sushi from the lunch special, and raising prices. So now, you're basically paying more for less. The lunch special is now pretty pricey, for boring, mediocre sushi. Not to mention that the service, while nice, is extremely slow. From now on, I'll be driving to Kan Pai or Screaming Tuna.

Sake Tumi used to be one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I went back last week for the first time in awhile with a few friends and was very disappointed in my experience. I will preface this by saying, we were there during downtown dining week. We did not order from the downtown dining week menu, so perhaps this had something to do with our experience. I ordered the Viva La Mexico specialty maki roll and was very underwhelmed by it. The description of the roll sounded fantastic: Yellowfin tuna and yellowtail, cilantro, avocado, scallions, cucumber, jalapenos and tempura flakes topped with tobiko and a jalapeno mango mayo drizzle. I was ready for some complex and intense flavors with my first bite. My expectations weren't met at all. All in all, the roll was just bland and even smelled a bit off... I thought it smelled odd and someone else with me remarked that it didn't smell completely right as well. The roll really tasted like nothing. I was expecting some spice with the jalapeno and jalapeno mango mayo drizzle but didn't get any spice at all. The fish also tasted like nothing... not sure how that is even possible. For a roll that is as expensive as the specialty maki rolls are at Sake Tumi I would expect the roll to at least have a little flavor, which this roll absolutely did not. All in all, I was super bummed with my dinner. Sake Tumi used to be one of my favorite restaurants and it didn't live up to my expectations for it at all. Not sure if I will be back to give it a go again. I've found other sushi places that I like better with consistently better food and lower prices.

Style over substance. I've eaten at Sake Tumi multiple times over the years and it's certainly never been horrible, but I never quite feel like rushing back either. On a recent lunch visit, we had excellent service - fast, pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately, the food was so/so at best. There is a lunch "special" of 3 rolls for $16....the catch? Well, only 1/4 of the rolls have any fish in them so the price is steep for veggie rolls. The rolls I tried were "ok" but were sloppily rolled and fell apart right away. My dining partner had a tempura roll that was drenched in salty brown sauce meaning that was all you could taste. I will say that the Korean entrees and bento boxes seem to be better than the sushi. Bottom line, Sake Tumi is better than grocery store sushi because it's made to order. Otherwise, there isn't all that much of a difference besides the price tag and trendy downtown location.

They have good sushi at a decent price, but the rolls fell apart. I am not a fan of not being able to pick up my roll with my chopsticks. They did have rice paper rolls which I loved!

Saketumi sometime over the fast five yrs sorta fell off my radar. It used to be one of the only places to get sushi when it opened about a decade ago and i was invited for various events back in the day but never seemed to make it. There used to be some sort of "lounge" upstairs the name of which eludes me.. (zen something? Buddha? Argh...this will be driving me crazy now..) Its now all one biggggg restaurant upstairs and down (the fact it wasn't always a restaurant upstairs may explain the awkward tables other yelpers describe.) Well fast forward a decade from all this. ..I see a living social for saketumi. Since I'm more likely to be turning down Milwaukee st around for 8 for dinner and drinks these days, then say, just drinks at 11, this was right up my alley. Ambience: I kept thinking I should wear all black and after going I still think that. Black or trendy clothes here pretty much exclusively. Its that type of place. There's a big sushi bar you can eat at on one side and one long booth along the opposite wall. It reminded me of Manhattan restaurants. Dim lights, lots of wood. Is it kind of trying to hard to be trendy? Well, I think in any other city it would be another restaurant but Milwaukee has very few places like this...I just think the atmosphere stands out because of that. Drinks: good, albeit a little heavy on the sugar and ice. They have an extensive sake and wine selection, Japanese beers, and interesting mixed drinks and specialty martinis. Service: very good. No reservations Saturday around 8 but they cleared us a table/booth in front within a few minutes for us. Our server was friendly and every thing came promptly. Food: last and also least unfortunately. The good: there's every conceivable asian fusion thing on this menu so maybe I ordered wrong. Korean, thai, Japanese.. you have a lot of choices. I ordered my fav tom yum soup and it had a weird broth. Sort of oily with a few mushrooms and bamboo shoots that were woody. I got the volcano roll (raw). It had a weird consistency and a fishy taste masked by a ton of soy sauce that was on it. Meh... My dining companion got the Viva Mexico and it was delicious! Asian-mexican fusion with cream on top, heavy on the cilantro. (I kept trying to look a little sad so he'd give me more of it.) So see I think it just depends what you order. So the true test--would I return? Yep definitely.

I love sushi and maki but I rarely eat it because of the high price-point that most sushi has. This was nothing short of extraordinary. I went during happy hour when everything was extremely low-priced the sushi and appetizers were beautifully prepared and the maki had a wonderful taste that you usually only find in expensive sushi. The women's bathroom is in desperate need of a makeover but otherwise everything was perfect! I will come here again soon!

What this place has going for it is its happy hour. Sadly, that's about it. However, that being said half price rolls, edemame, and a martini is the perfect way to end a day...Sometimes, my respect for cheap, no frills fare trumps my food snobbery. Happy hour...Sit at the bar. That's all I got.

I recently dined her for my sister's bachelorette party. I made the reservation for the party a week in advance, and I was very happy that they sat our group in the nice party room on the second floor. The room even had closable doors that definitely aided in reducing the noise from the other patrons and made it feel like our party was VIP exclusive. The restaurant itself feels very clean and trendy. We ordered drinks, and it took a while to get them. We had a party of 12 and there were other larger groups at the time, which may have caused the delay. Everyone was pleased with their drinks. I had the hot sake, which was very good compared to other hot sakes I have had. It also took longer than average to get our food. Everyone was pleased with their meals, and presentation of food was wonderful. I had the tempura sweet potato roll, cucumber roll, and spicy tuna roll. They were all fantastic and fresh; the spicy tuna was definitely spicy! I felt prices for rolls were average compared to other sushi restaurants I've dined at. The prices for the specialty rolls seemed a bit higher compared to other restaurants. My bride-to-be sister received a fun little ice cream sundae at the end of the meal, which was a nice surprise. It also took a long time to receive our bill. We were in a party of 12 and they did not split it, which always makes for confusion. I normally do not dine at restaurants in the downtown area because parking is always a challenge. I'm rating 4 stars overall because they did treat our party (and my sister) very well and the food and drinks were great. -1 due to slow service and not splitting the bill.

Just really wasn't feeling the food here, hold for the edamame mashed potatoes. The rolls and sushi were pretty flavorless, not bad fish per say, just as unremarkably flavored as could possibly be. The rice was inconsistent and had a weird consistency (I think it was overcooked). Also note to all, there is no happy hour on Sundays, just half price wine bottles. All in all we left pretty disappointed and certain that we wouldn't be coming back for anything except a hankering for the edamame mashed potatoes.

Feeling a little put off when a soon as I walk in the door, I am told that they suggest reservations. I'm sorry but you JUST opened and there are 3 other people in the entire place! I appreciate that places like this get busy but dot make that the way you greet people. There are other places in town we could have dined. Now...hopping off the soap box. Our server was very attentive and the drinks came out quickly. The one problem I had at this time is that the salad, soup and appetizers came out at the same time. The crab Rangoon. OMG to die for. I would have ordered 2 had we known!! The salad, eh ok. Nothing remarkable there. The sushi was ok. The deep fried roll was excellent but the spicy scallop was dying for some texture. It was rice and soft mush. We he the soft shell crab roll prepared spicy and that was not too bad. I recommend the Red Dragon on the specialty drink list. The blood orange is a delicious highlight in the drink. Overall ok but I will not hurry back. By the way, parking is AWFUL!

I visited here for lunch during downtown dining week. Our reservation was for 11:30. Receiving our main dish was a little slow but other than that, no complaints. In fact, all we ate was VERY delicious. We both had the Hiyashi Wakame (seasoned seafood) for starters. This was tasty as it was beautiful...vibrant green and just the right amount of flavoring with peanut oil and sesame seeds on top. Next was the Half roll Godzilla...oh my. Having the tempura shrimp in the roll added a delightful bit of crispy crunchiness. And of course you can't go wrong with cream cheese. A little bit of that oozing out was SUPER. The grean tea ice cream was a unique delight to top it off. I appreciated the portion sizes as well. I'll go back!

I hate to give bad reviews. So turn your head away! I have heard really good things about this place and jumped on the Amazon deal as soon as I saw it. We came in at lunchtime today and the place wasn't busy at all. I am not a sushi novice so I glanced at the menu and opted for the sushi lunch which was 12 mini maki pieces with tuna and whitefish and three pieces of Nigiri. The salmon was very fatty and the tuna looked dark, not brighter pink. Some pieces even felt warm and I had nothing warm in my bento box. My husbands teriyaki was horrible. It was over cooked and had a weird skin on it. He isn't a complainer but I did tell our waitress. He didn't want another bite. Overall this experience wasn't memorable. I think we will be sticking with our usual spot. The only good thing was our server. Also I found the luch to be a bit pricey. You can go elsewhere and get more for $9.00. My dish was $15.00

I somehow always end up at this place for someone's birthday. The only reason I can think of for anyone to come here for sushi, is that they just don't know sushi, or what reasonably priced sushi is. Tiny tiny portions for exorbitant prices, and it isn't even tasty. This is definitely just one of those places for those hipsters to sit at a fancy looking sushi bar and take pictures of themselves so they can post on instagram or facebook saying hurr durr eating sushi #imsooriental #sushi #hashtag #imsofashionable #sake

We went downtown one night for sushi, intending to go to Umami Moto next door. Parking can be a nightmare downtown, but we found parking within 15 minutes. Walking into Umami Moto, it looked more like an American fine dining restaurant than even an Asian fusion one. It was packed full, noisy, and the ambiance was uncomfortable. It seemed more of a club atmosphere full of business people unwinding from work with drinks in hand, more intent on socializing and drinking than eating. Fortunately the wait was about 30 minutes and we said we might come back. Instead we saw Sake Tumi right next door, and the minute we walked in, the ambiance was completely different. Quiet, relaxed, dimly lit, and intimate. Full of people as well, but no wait and quiet. it's not a Japanese restaurant or even a sushi restaurant, but a Japanese/Korean fusion. The cooked roll I ordered was pretty good, but I tried my boyfriend's fish and it was GREAT! I also ordered the edamame mash potatoes and loved them so much that we got an order to go. It's not the most convenient location parking-wise, but we were overall very happy we chose Sake Tumi over Umami Moto.

My wife and I dined with our two small children last night. Lisa was our server and she was fantastic! She's the reason this is a 3-star review instead of 2-stars. Lisa took cues from the kids on how quickly we needed the check, etc. she even played the "drop" game with our 1 year old. She'd drop it, Lisa would pick it up. :) The restaurant itself was not busy, being a Wednesday night around 8 PM. The food took longer to arrive than I would have expected (due to the lack of patrons). We ordered pork gyoza, rolls were spicy tuna, spicy salmon, octopus, spider and their specialty Firefly roll. Normally, spicy sushi has a little zing. These rolls were lighting my wife's mouth on fire to the point where she did not enjoy the meal and actually stopped eating about half way through. I thought they were hotter than they should be, but ate it anyway so as not to waste. In retrospect, we should have sent it back. Lesson learned. Also, other than hot, the rolls did not have much flavor to them. I've had more flavor from Pick N Save sushi (don't judge, we were beginners at that point). We had a $30 certificate from the JSOnline deals. We use deals like this to try out new places. I have to say that even if we had another deal, we probably would not return. Service was fantastic. Food was slow, bland and way too spicy.

I like this place. I haven't been disappointed here yet - it's usually my "let's go grab dinner somewhere nice but not fancy" place". I usually get the veggie platter or some veggie rolls, and I appreciate the simplicity of their ingredients because their dishes are prepared well. The location is also trendy, as is the atmosphere of the restaurant. Maybe I should expand on my choices here to get a more well-rounded view of their menu. But I will definitely continue to come here.

Went with my daughter for lunch. We have hit many of the sushi bars around town thru the years, and this was our first time here. It has a nice vibe, with a modern contemporary decor, that is pleasing to the eye, but also comfortable. It's located in the North 700 block of Milwaukee St. which is a pretty hopping neighborhood for downtown Milwaukee. We started with an order of Edamame, which arrived warm, and COVERED in course salt. It was pretty good, but not the freshest I've ever had. The Miso soup was very good, with lots of tofu and scallions, and a really nice broth. Based on friends recommendations, we tried the Firefly roll and the Godzilla roll. Both were very good. Fresh ingredients all around, and some nice heat from the Wasabi mayo used in the Firefly. We topped off our lunch special with two green tea ice creams. If you like green tea, this is for you, as it tasted VERY MUCH like green tea. Service was cordial and prompt. The menu was quite extensive with sushi and various cooked items of all kinds, so we will be back soon, to try something new.

I really do love this place. Besides the slightly high price and small portions, the food truly is AMAZING. You can tell they use fresh, high-quality ingredients and it's prepared at the time you order. Wait time has always been on the higher end, but it's well, well worth it. The ambiance is so beautiful...dimly lit, a small, intimate room (with limited seating..so keep that in mind when dining with a larger group), and a bar. The bathrooms are pretty neat, too :) I'd definitely go back.

I have eaten here on dinner invitation several times, and I am perplexed as to why I am being brought here repeatedly. As a place for the more traditional sushi (no, not CA rolls!) I cannot recommend Sake Tumi at all. The rice is too hard .. from being dry, old, or over packed. Typically I'm not a stickler on issues of balance and tradition etc, but this was very noticeable and detracted from the taste. The fish itself was acceptable, while it didn't taste fresh, it did not taste 'not' fresh. My most recent sushi, white tuna, lost points for having some hard connective tissue.. I know some people don't care about texture, but it's a big deal for me when it comes to sushi. The half price sushi menu for Sunday, is no bargain. You pay for what you get, which is lesser leftover fish, along with some general cheap ingredients in my opinion. Though I do give a little credit for not skimping on portion size (*glares at fujiyama) The Kalbi and Bugolgi are good, but I've eaten better, in greater quantity, and at lesser prices ,,so moving on. Actually the sushi was alittle bit more then I would've liked to pay. I do have to say, Sake Tumi does look nice, it's decor is fitting a restaurant in the downtown of Milwaukee. Things like service, interior design, etc are all good things, but are all secondary to food for me. The contemporary setting does make it easier to introduce people to certain asian cuisines though, while i'm sure slightly impressing dates or friends. Just don't bring me here if I you know me, let's go somewhere else!

My first decent Japanese restaurant, well, it's more like a fusion thing, but I can't really judge. The Godzilla and firefly was excellent. Rest was okay. The wasabi was killing, hit us like a bullet. Much more hard hitting than any wasabi I had ever tasted.drinks were decent. The server, Lisa, was super cool, explained everything to us in a simple way and guided us when we told her that we don't really know the basics of Japanese cuisine. And the fried tempura dessert in the end was yummy. Overall good, a lil overpriced but the decor n taste pretty much makes it worth.

I love it here... Again I sat at the bar with a friend. The bartender was great, giving us service when needed, leaving us be when we were chatting away like crazy girls! It was just perfect. Had my usual Godzilla Roll, which is seriously the best I have ever had. Also opted for a roll that had Smoked Salmon and that was fantastic too. Very fresh. I am more "Americanized" when it comes to sushi, so this review is for people who aren't as adventurous as others may be in Japanese cuisine. Overall this place beats the pants off of Izumi's in service, food, and atmosphere. The only downside is finding parking, but in the summer who cares! go for a walk :)

Really love sushi and being from California I have to say that I believe my standards are pretty high. Tried the Tuna Torpedo small plate, it was on the happy hour menu, and needless to say it was a disappoint, it had to much mustard and wasabi over powering the fish. I should have known to set the bar lower when I sat at the sushi bar and noticed all the fish in the chilled case was already cut up into pieces. I ended up having the Bibimbop, which was pretty good, the pot could have been hotter. All in all not a bad experience, the service was great and the food ok, 3 stars.
