This review is a three star review. That's pretty good. As the evening progresses and your options change, this review migrates. Soon, it's a five star review. Like 11PM. At 4AM, this is the only 6 star restaurant you can find. Portions are so generous you're reminded that only in the midwest is overeating considered an act of heroism. Get the Greek spaghetti. If it's not on the menu, ask for it. I dare you -- YOU -- to save room for dessert.

It is big, it is Greek, it might be fat, and you might have a great wedding party here, but mostly I go here for breakfast. I just love the way they do the typical diner food in a fast, friendly, and yummy way. There is a minimal Greek section to the menu. This is a Greek diner, not really a Greek Taverna. There are no surprises here. There is nothing gourmet about this place, but you get a lot of awesome stuff here for great prices. I usually do breakfast. I do two eggs, sausage patties, and hash browns (get them with onions!), and with a side of the sauce from biscuits and gravy for $1. A friend of my dads who was here has another way to go at it. He and his lady friend order one three egg special, get corn tortillas, a side of beans, and a side of roasted jalapeno peppers (the sides are a buck I think), and they share the plates and make breakfast tacos. Coffee service is great. This is drip coffee but it is good. It comes out in a speedy service. There are women and men who go around and top off all the coffee and fill up your water. When I worked in a place like this the owner said: If the coffee cup goes dry the customer won't tip! You better tip, because it will be a cold day in Milwaukee when they don't keep the java flowing here! Now, this is very much a South Side of Milwaukee place. The Polish, Mexican, African-American, and Greek communities come together her as customers, servers, and cooks, and everything about it is grand, hybrid, even a bit tacky, but it is pure Americana at its best. Would you expect anything less from a place that is on the same street as Leon's Frozen Custard and Mazos burger joint? No way. This is Milwaukee baby, and you are gonna get a lot of whatever you order. If you are a snobby person, then you can go to the places with cutie names like Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, or Fox Point, but you better wear your argyle socks and a pink shirt girlie man!

Food was mediocre, but the service was terrible! We weren't asked how our meal was, and we were given our bill by the time we were half way done eating. When we paid our bill, the hostess wasn't concerned either. Nor were they concerned about the pan handler that was standing immediately outside the door.

I've been going here my whole life. The food is always fast and fresh, and the service is always good. The food is pretty consistent, especially the spaghetti. There's a good variety. They even have Mexican cuisine. They also have HD TVs for sport fans or simply those who lack converation. Omega is a great South Side gem.

Debbie's the best waitress in the joint!!! Her attention to detail is impeccable. Nuff said.

Went there today and had a gyro and fries. Food was pretty good and the service was too. Nothing seemed too special and I don't know if I'll be back but there was nothing wrong with it.

I like how big the servings are and the welcoming feel when you walk in... I love that it's all no smoking. The service is not so great but they get the job done. The portions are a wonderful size and worth what you pay for. I am sure they would like you to leave but there really isn't pressure to leave.

Come on, it's a Greek family diner. You know what's here. This one gets it all right, and does it in such a friendly manner. I've never felt rushed at Omega's. No matter how full and busy they are, we're always treated well. I've often remarked that they have one of the better steaks in the city, breakfast or otherwise. I know, you're thinking I've not had many steaks around town. I get that. Thing is, that for the flavor, cut and price, I'd easily rank their breakfast steak in the top five. It's sort of hard to really write a review of a place like Omega's. We've been going there so long that it's almost like a second kitchen. It's one of those places that's always been there, and you hope will always be there in the future.

Food was good typical family restaurant. Menu was HUGE, kinda overwhelming. Staff was friendly and polite. The meal came with a glass of wine, beer or dessert. Good sized portions.

This is the place we go when we can't decide on a particular genre for lunch or dinner. The food is so-so and the prices seem a bit high. Service, on the other hand, is pretty consistently excellent. There are times when going to a really big diner suits the mood. Just don't expect anything out of the ordinary.

This is my second trip here.. Diner in every sense of the word. Greek style, Mexican cooks. (very positive intention) The menu is pretty normal...however they have great specials and REAL soup. I tried the special on my first trip, skirt steak, black beans and rice..DELICIOUS. This trip, I went for a staple.. chicken cutlet, gravy and rice..mmm mmm mmm. Most of the dinner items come with soup/salad, entree, potato and wine or a dessert, for around 10.00.. Fabulous. Waitresses come in a variety of "fun"..mostly very attentive and aware of what it takes to get good tips. Definitely a repeat..

The Omega is my in-laws favorite restaurant: huge portions of bland food served quickly by pleasant wait staff. This is a great place if you want to "eat", but not a great place if you want to "dine."

Go there if you wanna get shot!!! I went there and two guys got into a fight and one pulled out a gun. We as the customers had to call the cops because all the workers just brushed it off! Ghetto establishment.

Omega is everything you'd expect from a good breakfast place. Good, fast, inexpensive food from friendly people. We were seated immediately in the large dining room and our food came out maybe 5 minutes after we ordered it. The portions were large and tasty. There's nothing fancy here, but why does breakfast need to be fancy? The menu has most of your standard breakfast fare and no froo-froo business here. Thanks Omega, for a good most important meal of my day.

The service at this place is ALWAYS top-notch, and I'm a sucker for good service! My daughter is convinced even the water here tastes better than IHop, mostly because the service is so seemingly individualized. Today: ~It's always busy here, but you never wait long for hot, fresh food. No exception today. ~The spanokopita was prepared beautifully, flakey crust, good ratio of spinach...wasn't expecting so much cream cheese inside, but it was still delicious. ~Strawberry pancakes...well, half the shortstack with a side of bacon was enough food to launch my 9 year old into full on pancake sweats. ~We each left with enough left overs to constitute a full dinner, or breakfast tomorrow. ~Good prices...especially for how much food you get! ~EXCELLENT SERVICE! POLITE, RESPONSIVE, PERSONABLE, AND PROMPT. It illustrates, good service still exists. People haven't made it impossible to give good service...today we had Lisa. She's awesome!!! Decent food, bumped up to great food because of amazing service and a friendly atmosphere.

The food is good quality and plentiful. Nothing fancy, but always a wide range of vegetarian choices. The service rates five stars, from host to busboy.

I came here with a co-worker at night (probably around 11:30 pm). The service was pretty good and we were greeted by our server right away. The food came quickly and it was delicious. I ordered an omelette and it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be but that meant I had leftovers and lunch for the next day. The waiter was attentive but not over-bearing as some can be late at night. He didn't try to rush us either when we decided to sit and chat for a few minutes after our meal before leaving. If this is how they are every time, I will be back again.

Lovely place. I was seated as soon as I walked in. The staff is very friendly. Food was delish and it was perfect timing. I'm from Cali and visited twice on my trip here. I will return and bring more friends!

I've been coming here for over 15+ years and it's my go to restaurant. The food is excellent and the portions are big and decently priced. The only downside is since the management changed a few years ago the food hasn't been as great as it was before (hence the 4 stars) but overall still my favorite place to eat in Milwaukee.

Always a favorite. Family dining, not gourmet. Decent preparations, ample portions, good services, fair prices, zillions of choices. When we can't think where else to go, we always come back here and are happy we did.

The last time I went the bathrooms were so dirty. The waiting wasn't too long. The food was very pricey. I ordered shrimp scampi. & I don't know how you might know the plate but from every other place I've been to its pasta topped with shrimp. Well, in Omegas my $12 dish was nothing more than a few pieces of shrimp on a tiny sauce dish. That was all! It came with soup as a starter. Boy was I disappointed! Then for dessert I ordered a strawberry short cake. & received a regular, dry piece of white cake that had artificial strawberry jelly in the middle. Luckily our server was not something we were disappointed about. She was very very nice. She had them make me angel hair pasta and fixed it up with the shrimp. It was 7 of us. All disappointed in our meals. Will never go back!

Best Greek salad in the area! Would give them 5 stars but 3 out of 4 times they forget the anchovies even though I ask for them. The steak and chiquillies are fantastic! Service is usually fast and attentive. Over the past year, this place has gotten so much better as well as the menu!

After having the worst experience at the Denny's a block away, my friend and I decided on the Omega. Even the parking lot was cleaner than Denny's!!! I was so happy to find parking, get a table right away, and have a nice normal friendly accommodating waitress. She was fast and efficient and got our orders perfect. She even remembered my friends extra ranch dressing and mayo. Will definitely be back, and will for sure tell people about our experience today. Thank You Omega!!

  • Kari G.

Cheap, fast and delicious! That has always been my Omega experience. I had the Chicken Skillet. This was very delicious, and had lots of chicken, cheese and hash browns topped with eggs. My son had the usual. Two eggs, hash browns and sausage. He enjoyed it all. My mom had the steak skillet and said it was good. Waitstaff were courteous and attentive. My son, always one to steal the show, had fun with one of the waitresses. Any place that takes time to make my son comfortable is top-notch in my book. My history with Omega had been one visit after senior prom was over, a couple visits after a night out dancing in my 20s and that's it. I had totally forgotten about this place until my mom mentioned it. I am glad that I revisited with an open mind, and hopefully I can make it back there soon.

Very poor service waitress didn't even bother with us. Cold food. Nasty food. I got a Caesar salad and it was basically lettuce and parmesan. Very disappointed no tip will be served.

Omega restaurant is just one of those places that you know what your going to get before you enter the door. Omega has been on 27th street for a long time I can't even imagine this corner to be anything different. However, I always order the Mexican omelette with cheese and onions on crispy hash browns ,all wrapped with a flour tortilla .So in closing, happy eating.

  • Justin L.

Never again. Ever. "This is a Greek restaurant, we don't have Italian dressing". Really? Ever hear of the greco-roman empire? Other than being historically illiterate, the waitress was very nice. However, the porterhouse steak was dry and flavorless. The sauteed mushrooms were from a can and the salad dressing (ranch, which also isn't Greek) tasted like it was about three years too tangy. I skipped the complimentary dessert because I didn't want more to complain about.

I so looked forward to our recent visit to Omega. I'm originally from Milwaukee and my partner and I stopped in during a recent visit. Had breasted chicken which was dry and flavorless. My partner had a taco salad; the shell was hard and stale. The wait staff was indifferent and unavailable. We think we'll hit one of Milwaukee's other numerous "Greek mafia" diners next time. and skip the Omega.

Finest off the on line menu is so incomplete that it kept me away. It is very small and leaves one thinking they don't have much. I posted the complete carry out menu so everyone will know what's on the real menu. I was seated right away. My server came right away. The place looked nice and clean on the inside. This is a nice place for a greek style restaurant. I ordered the Greek omelet off the picture on the menu, see my real picture. It was on my table in five minutes with toast and hash browns. I started with the hash browns which were very tasty and I think they were cooked in butter. They were golden brown and crispy on the out side with a soft center. This is my fav MKE hash browns. The omelet was wrapped in gyro meat. The eggs were fluffy and soft with gyro meat, onions, tomato and feta cheese inside. This was a very delicious omelet for sure. No Greek toast again and my pet peeve at Greek places so o got the white. To my surprise it looked like Greek toast, it was thick with sesame seeds on top and not the thin stuff. Servers were friendly and over all it was a great breakfast place, one of the better ones in MKE. Two thumbs up. I would go back.

Service and food has gone down from its former glory. Seems like they has lost their competition with the restaurant across the street. They use to outshine, but have settled into complacency with the rest of the Greek fast food restaurants in the neighborhood.

I ordered the almond crusted sea bass but it was really breaded with a couple of almonds. Being gluten intolerant, I suggested to the waitress the management revise the menu to be clear since I couldn't eat the meal. The waitress understood but the manager wasn't impressed. The meals ordered by the others in my group were okay! Waitress was efficient.

I spent a lot of time preparing for this review by trying to figure out what would cause the sizable community of Milwaukee Greeks to emigrate here and start businesses, but I realized the answer to that question was the same opportunity that caused the Polish, German, and Italians come here. The question I should have been asking is why the enterprising Greeks of pre-World War I largely found their niche in restaurants, coffee shops, and confectionaries. Of course, the answer here is equally mundane - an unfamiliar language and an admirable work ethic made the Greek diner and the Greek coffee shop numerous and plentiful in certain parts of the country. Parts of the country that aren't this far west, anyway. The Cream City is thankfully quite a ways away from New York, but as a result our Greek restaurants have dwindled to a few mainstays, the questionable gyro at your friendly neighborhood hot dog stand notwithstanding. Omega is another restaurant I visited countless times in my youth but didn't stop to consider until I left and realized that not all towns have a 24-hour Greek diner, much less two across the street from each other. Having never been to Zebb's (I assume the average south sider chose one side of Morgan Ave. long ago and sticks to it), I do have my theory as to why two extremely similar restaurants exist right next to each other: one started as a coffee shop, and one a restaurant. Over time, both grew to embrace the impossibly large menus of which they typify, though it would explain why one is fairly plain in presentation while the other is the gigantic, ornate, bright stereotype of Greece that is more commonly found in the Greek diners of the east coast. Appearances aside, it's this gigantic and impossible menu that has prevented me from returning for so long, with my nostalgic memories coming into direct conflict with the knowledge that any modern restaurant with a menu that large can't possible excel in at least half of the things they have on offer. Still, I wanted to give them a fighting chance, so I focused on the native stuff, particularly on the Greek Triple Combo, a menu item that I had trouble locating on the physical menu and of which the waiter was wholly unfamiliar until I pointed it out to her. With spanakopita, pastitsio, and gyro, plus pilaf, soup, and dessert, it was quite a bit of food, which, upon further consideration, is probably why we came here so often when I was younger. Aside from the pilaf - which was nothing other than a large mound of rice topped with their all-purpose chicken lemon gravy - the Greek plate wasn't a bad choice. plenty of crispy layers of phyllo and spinach on the spanakopita, and a serviceable though ordinary pastitsio, you ate it and could swear you were in an actual Greek restaurant, though we'd have to turn a blind eye from the beef vegetable soup and the stale breadbasket. Of more interesting note was the meal my dining companion ordered: the burger. Not very Greek, but a pretty common menu stalwart for the indecisive. Sure, they brandish that Certified Angus Beef logo around on all the promotional materials, but I was still surprised to have the waiter ask my fellow diner how he would like to have his burger cooked. After requesting it be cooked medium, it was even more surprising that the cook's disregarded this request and sent the burger out a solid rare. Not that we were upset about it - these things happen, and they were more than happy to send it back - but it was a pretty dang picturesque version of a rare burger. Had I known a little more about the sourcing of the meat, I would have been pretty jealous. As it was, the second attempt came back cooked through and it was otherwise forgotten about. Regardless, it's not what you expect to find here. My meal ended with a free piece of cake - a layered chocolate cake-cheese torte thing. Regardless of the impression they might give, the cakes nowadays are sourced from the Chicago Sweet Connection Bakery. It was dry, but it was also free, so I got my money's worth. I think it's telling that the diner counter from an earlier iteration of the restaurant still exists behind the bakery case and hostess stand, much further into the bowels of the restaurant than you would expect. It's also telling that the majority of the clientele that seem to frequent Omega seem more than a little tired, world-weary, and not of any particular disposition than what allows them to sip some coffee and eat some eggs in peace. The sadder the schlubs become, the sharper the contrast between the sad faces and the impossibly bright lights that reveal every corner of this restaurant. For whatever state of misery has befallen the sweatpants-clad masses that sit in the booths, there's still a family of proprietors that stand proudly in the front wearing French cuff shirts, ready to greet you, take your ticket, and ensure that everything coming out of the kitchen meets a standard far higher than anyone expects.

Well, I was not impressed. Once again, there's just something being lost in the translation from menu to plate. Touted as one of the best "Greek" restaurants in the city the Greek style lamb chops left something to be desired. It was like they allowed a child to butcher the animal. They seasoned them way to much and only one of the chops was actually medium (how i ordered it). My friend did, however, order Breakfast and it was honestly delicious. So, perhaps, they'd better serve the public by only serving the breakfast. Probably won't be back.

Omega is an above-standard Greek-run breakfast and-everything-else restaurant. Breakfast is their specialty, and their menu is Greeknormous! I had the french toast w/sour cherries and it was good. The kids loved their Mickey Mouse-shaped pancakes w/fresh fruit, and I snagged a few bites of the Steak and Jalapeno Skillet. Hobos, rejoice! that skillet was out of this world! Decor is typically gaudy/diner, restaurant is clean, service is friendly. An A-Okay experience at breakfast!

Greeter/cashier is surly, the carpeting in dining area is filthy and the food is too high priced. Go elsewhere. We were not made to feel welcome at all and we will never return to Omega. Since the new owners took over it will not be our "go to" restaurant when in Milwaukee after tonight. When you are greeted as if you are bothering them and they never ask how the meals were or thank you for coming in, it's time to find another restaurant where they appreciate your business. The waitress was friendly enough but that was the only plus in my book.

This is my favorite family restaurant in Milwaukee because it's the biggest, the fastest, the strongest, and in its own way, the strangest. The most extreme. More things on the menu, more hours open (24 a day) and more people through the door. When I'm in town on business I might come here for lunch and then not have to eat for three days. For those Wisconsin size hangovers, this is the place. For people watching, you can't beat it. You might see Brett Favre or Latrell Sprewell, even The Pope. Huge families pull tables together and have reunions, looking like the cast party from an early John Waters movie. The Royal Family, maybe, even. The food is dependable family restaurant standard, but if you search the multi-paged menu you might find something you've never heard of that they invented just for you. I usually act like I'm going to do something healthy and get one of these "Julienne" salads, but of course there is like several pounds of ham and turkey on that thing, along with hard boiled eggs. I eat the vegetable part first, but the whole thing is like demolitioning the Great Pyramid. My very favorite thing about Paul's Omega is that since it's open 24 hours they've developed efficient and unobtrusive ways to clean. The wooden partitions that booths are built up against contain internal vacuum cleaner works, so that an employee need only connect a relatively short vacuum hose directly into one of the portals in the walls to vacuum, rather than having to drag a vacuum cleaner with cords all around. It's ingenious!

Not worth ordering for pick up when they can't even get your order right and this is the second time in a row that they messed up. Dinning in is better then ordering. I do like omegas because I feel like is cleaner then the other restaurants around it and food is good, servers are always nice and is 24 hrs open which is a plus.

I think there is a definite distinction of breakfast joints and brunch places. For brunch I want something fancier and I want a mimosa or bloody mary to go with it. Breakfast is normally the result of being hungover or in a hurry and I just want some grub/coffee stat. Omega is my breakfast joint. This is mostly because it's the diner that's closest to my house. That being said, for what I want it for, it does very good. The service is fast and friendly. You will never have an empty coffee cup while you're there. The breakfast specials are decently priced. Even when there is a wait, it doesn't take very long. The food is diner fare but nowhere near as greasy as George Webb's. Yes if you get an omelet with mushrooms, they will be canned mushrooms, but sometimes after a rough Friday night an American cheese/canned mushroom omelet is exactly what I need. The pancakes are pretty decent too. I often take advantage of one of the combos that has both savory & sweet. Here are my tips: 1. Ask for a booth. The tables in the middle can be crowded and you'll have a much more peaceful time at a booth. 2. Order the greek toast for your toast option. I normally do wheat, but there's something about the thick cut, sesame seed topped greek toast that makes this diner experience complete. 3. They have egg beaters and I don't think charge extra for them so if you're like me and like to pretend that you can have a little element of healthy in your meal, it's an option.

NOMZILLA! Omega Family Restaurant is like the Godzilla of Milwaukee Greek diners. I don't know if it's the biggest, but it's definitely got the best service, and the best breakfast among the ones I've tried. I don't go here to eat dinner....c'mon. It's a diner: you're supposed to eat breakfast at diners. (Or maybe that's just ingrained in me from reruns of the 80's sitcom Alice?) Anyway, they have a delicious build-your-own omelet. That's usually what I get when I'm there. The coffee is a good pick me up in the morning, and pretty good for diner coffee. A good friend of mine had the oreo pancakes one afternoon for brunch, and we shared them- hooray for oreo cookies! There's another thing they're good at- being fried inside pancake batter. I always get seated relatively quickly for how busy they usually are. Each waitress is polite and attentive in her own way, and I usually leave with a full tummy and a box of leftovers full of tasty noms.

Yeah, it's "Greek"~ except that it's mostly American with a Greek section on the menu. The overall setting is beautiful, the entryway large and very classy. It's a bit confusing because it's obviously a place you have to wait to be seated but there is no sign designating where to wait or to even do so. The prices are a bit steep if you're just looking for a quick bite ($2.55 for two eggs. Really.) but if you want a nice sit down, then this is a perfect place. Just get ready to pay for it. The dining room was carpeted and clean, the seats very comfortable, and the staff were fast and friendly.

Another good Greek diner, we stopped in around 5:30 on a Wednesday and had immediate seating. My Wife is a southside Polaki and has been going there for years, Sunday brunch is usually hard to get in without a wait. She had salmon and rice with veggies and found it rather good, my beef burrito plate was good, and a generous portion. The breadbasket was good, but not outstanding. She said her baklava was ok. For the price:quality:quantity equation it was a good meal, but there are better venues for the theme in the region, so I could not give it all four stars. Service was on par for the tight ship that one finds at Greek joints too: fast, courteous and frequent stop by various staff members.

If you want the shits, this is a great place to eat. I used to deliver here and if you saw the kitchen, you'd run. Then again if you eat here, I guess you'll still run, only it'll be to the bathroom!!

Every saturday we go here for breakfast. Their omlets are HUGE and the skillets are tasty. It gets really busy on Sundays so arrive early but they do have tons of parking. The food is greek based but everything is good. With dinner you get a wine or beer, salad or soup and a dessert. Good bang for your buck

This place is a solid diner-type restaurant and I've eaten here dozens of times. The place is clean, service is good, food is decently-priced and well above average for what you'd expect from a family restaurant. The staff works hard and your coffee never goes empty. Their system is a winner.

upon entering the eatery i noticed the decor has not changed since i was 12 im now 21. very classy joint. i suggest the clam chowder the strawberry cheesecake. and the spaghetti 2.00 extra for the meatballs but still worth it. costed 18 dollars for 2 people very big portions. staff is very friendly coming here again for sure.

Fastest breakfast on the south side. Don't bother with other meals here. If you're going to spend money on dinner, do it elsewhere. However, if you want a fast, reliable plate of eggs, meat and potatoes in the morning: this is your spot. Perfect for hangover recovery.

Average to below average Greek style family restaurant. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and the kids ordered breakfast. The sandwiches where both dry and the kids meals were a little chewy and cold. Service was good though... Price was a little on the high side for the area.

Good food, great Greek salads. It can be really crowded at times, so plan ahead if you are in a hurry or have a large group.
