Ok. Q: Who still uses styrofam to-go cups? A: Sadly, La Tarte does. The really nice barista said that the owner was hell bent on using them. If that wasn't bad enough. I attempted to purchase a Rice Krispie treat but upon touching it to bring it over to the register, I discovered it was rock hard and placed it back on the really cute, antique, three-tier shelving unit that apparently is as old as the Rice Krispie treats it holds. I opted for a quick cake bread- which at least was malleable to the touch. I opened up the cranberry cake bread in the car and attempted to eat it while driving back to work. It was impossible to eat. Not because of the way it tasted, but because it was so incredibly dry and it crumbled into a million tiny pieces all over the inside of my car. To be fair, I meant to write this review several months ago. However, I was reminded once again today of the bakery bread dust explosion when I reached into my back seat to grab a book and noticed the still hitchhiking crumbs... still hitchhiking on to everything. This cute café is very close to the place that I work. With few regrets I am going to opt for the Alterra that is slowly emerging out of the concrete across the street from La Tarte. Small business or not: There is no excuse for old bakery, overly dry cake breads and Styrofoam cups. I heard that this place used to be excellent a long time ago....

Liz was so helpful designing 180 cookies to hand out at a large family affair! They were delicious and everyone loved the detail and the taste! Very buttery and delicious! Thank you, Liz.....you are a pleasure to work with and we will be back again!

I love La Tarte!! Their Thanksgiving pumpkin and chocolate pecan pies were fabulous. Other favorites are the raspberry "bread" (small loaf cake), pull-aparts, berry strudels, and lemon poppy "bread." They sell little individual treats as well as larger ones, and the prices are reasonable. This bakery is close to Simmas, which is also incredible , but these pastries are less "sinfully rich" and are great with coffee. There's a cute new women's shop next door. Other shops in the neighborhood are Collectivo (great sandwiches) a wonderful hair salon , Rose's flower shop, a great framing shop, a decadent chocolate shop, and Balistrieri's. What a nice collection of stores!

Great bakery - the best thing is the frozen chicken pot pie and the Shepard's pie - I get them often and take home to bake. Best comfort food in town.

La Tarte is celebrating twenty years in 2011. That's impressive for a small business and a sign they do something really well. La Tarte is the kind of place where regulars are greeted by their first names. La Tarte's breakfast burritos are amazing! They are available in two flavors, chorizo and black bean. I'm not sure if they are house-made or not but they are great with coffee. I've only tried a few of La Tarte's pastries but will follow-up with a review update. They have begun serving Flamenco Coffee Roasters' beans instead of local Ancora offerings. I've tried both and am partial to the Minneapolis based Flamenco. However, I'm not a fan of serving fine coffee in polystyrene cups as I feel it gives it an off flavor. flamencoorganic.com

Nice little shop, lots of character, 3 tables, 7 chairs, very cute. Good espresso, from Valentine coffee. The also sell Valentine coffee beans, which are roasted just a few blocks away. Delicious homemade biscotti, lots of other baked goods. The croissants, however, were not the least bit flakey, I definitely would NOT recommend the croissants. Free WiFi. Check out the plaster casts (gargoyle, angel, etc) for sale on the wall. Merci.

Super cute little place! Great bakery, the bars are so good... adorable gifts in the front, and the smell in there is amazing!
