Great vibe and food! It was on my bucket list and I definitely plan on returning. I can't remember which dish was which, but it doesn't matter because it was all so good. Menu changes often, so you might not have the same options.

From the time I sat down and was handed a negroni (spelled "nogroni" here) I really liked Goodkind. Tucked away a residential neighborhood between Kinnickinnic and the lake (take Russell east, Wentworth north and you're there) the restaurant sits in what looks like a cute little house, done up in art deco, a little bit bric-a-brac style. Windows with little house plants growing in them rounded out the earthy decor. The menu was a mix of different flavors - not huge but with something for all tastes. our server explained price would dictate portion size, and also that their rotisserie items were their forte. (The chicken and lamb sounded excellent and I'm a little wistful I didn't order them.) I had the crab pasta which came with some very spicy and good homemade tasting pepperoni. Also I had the chicken liver mousse which, if you are ok with liverwurst, (I loved it as a kid) is very good too. The stars of the show (imo) were really the craft cocktails. They had an extensive list with homemade bitters and syrups, beautiful presentation ("mandrake" came complete with a flower), lots of creative names and innovative twists on well known drinks. Our service was great especially considering how busy it was (get reservations even on a week night.) Our server was friendly, patient with our questions and our food and drink all came out quickly but well timed. The people working there seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. A great addition to Bayview!

For how high these rating are... No. The service was poor. Long waits between service. It's tapas. Had a cold dish that we sent back.

My husband & went to Goodkind yesterday just to check it out because we live in Bay View & I've been reading about it for a while. We arrived around 5:30/6:00 and it wasn't super busy yet. We sat at the bar but it was a couple minutes before we were provided beverages but that's fine (I'm not too worried because I just has water). Everything on the menu looked super good that I couldn't decide what I want. I finally decided on the Spicy Dungeness Crab Bucatini with San Marzano Tomato, Ghost Pepperoni, Rapini and Basil Oil - it was fantastic! Everything in the dish just worked well together and the pepperoni added that little spicy kick to it. I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the calamari and he said he really enjoyed it. There were some deep fried lemon in the dish, which he had never had before but he said it was fantastic. For dessert, we ordered the stout chocolate cake (it had some kind of mousse on it but I can't remember)....and it was so delicious. I could eat it a couple times a week and I'm not a bit dessert/chocolate fan to begin with. I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu

Adorable atmosphere - lots of great details throughout the restaurant. Had a mozzarella and broccolini salad (spicy and delicious), mussels (great flavor), and bucatini with crab (good but not a ton of crab). Dessert was a walnut cake with kumquat ice cream and gourmet maraschinos. Server was friendly and made nice wine recommendations. Did have a reservation for a Friday 7 PM dinner. Noise level - including strange music mix and crowd of people waiting for their table right next to our table - was the only negative.

I am more than willing to pop back in next time I'm in MKE for another visit, but I wasn't blown away. The space itself is a wee bit uncomfortable to me, trying to be every top pin on Pinterest. There's wood, there's metallics, there's random pieces of glass in window sills that my colleague almost knocked over on several occasions, and for no great reason. It doesn't add to the space. The building itself and the foundation is lovely, but then it was over designed and distracted from finer elements like the tidy menu and concise cocktail offerings. And as for the menu, I think this particular colleague and I decided we just went the wrong way, ordered the wrong things. We went with all the fryers, which we should have known would be heavy. But I wish they would break it up so they're more than just dredged and battered. The mushrooms were nearly inedible, soggy and just mushy, and everything else lacked any other flavor than fried. I think the bar is where it's at, both in terms of seating and in terms of offerings. The beer list was carefully curated, and features locals, but locals you probably won't recognize. And the fact that they'll pour ya anything to sample (drafts and wine) is quite nice when the list is one you won't be familiar with. Staff too was lovely, we felt very attended to. I'll certainly be back. And explore other parts of the menu and most likely aim for seats at the bar which I'm thinking will just feel better than sitting in a booth that looks like it was designed by an HGTV crew.

If you are looking for unique food combinations, a trendy atmosphere, very helpful staff and a menu that changes by the week - Goodkind is your place. Went within the first month of Goodkind's opening and it was very busy - given the good reputation, I'd imagine that hasn't slowed down. The place itself isn't overly large, so if you're planning on going there, try to time it slightly off the usual rush. Despite this, the staff was very attentive and offered thoughtful suggestions. They even tipped me off to the fact that the flower in my drink was edible (what?! amazing!) - spoiler alert, it tasted like flower. This is definitely on my list of places to go back to. The only downside was that it was a bit pricey (especially the drinks), but given the quality we didn't mind the cost as much.

Great place for small plates and cocktails! I've been here a few times (all on the weekends) and this place is hopping! They don't take reservations and they are ALWAYS packed. The space has around 10 tables on the inside and a bar that can seat around 20. I tend to go late around 8 to 9 to eat and every time there is around a 30 minute wait or more. Get there early or get there late (serve food until 1AM on the weekends). Talk to the bartenders or your waiter(ress) to get some recommendations as they change up the menu on a daily basis (some but not all of the dishes). Each time I go its with one other person and we tend to get around 4 small plates to split and then dessert. It seems like each thing we get is better than the last. The cocktail menu is great - expect high-quality craft cocktails. Oh yeah, the beer list isn't skimped on either! The beer list is extensive yet also has some interesting twists with some special brews made just for them topped with bitters or have some other type of twist. The atmosphere here is just great too. During summer you can sit outside to eat yet they do close that down around 10PM and have to come inside. Sitting at the bar is always nice and the tables are very intimate and close together. Great date spot, good place to catch up with a friend or two, yet I would keep the groups away from here.

The midwest rules. Seriously. This is my third trip to Milwaukee in the past year and I've eaten at a number of fantastic spots. The dinner I had tonight at Goodkind was the best so far. The venison Osso Buco was so tender I didn't even need a knife. The Walleye Fingers were just perfect with the accompanying coleslaw. And, the split pea soup was the best SPS I've EVER had. I'm not kidding - just fantastic stuff. My one complaint - no dish was very hot. In fact, I really wanted the Osso Buco to be hotter. However, with that said, the food was so exceptional that it made up for any temperature variations. In addition to the food, the general dinning atmosphere is perfect. It has an old-timey feel - with a real "from another era" touch to the decor. The servers are all super sharp and know the menu very well. And - the beer and wine list are fantastic. I will be back in Milwaukee and I will eat here again.

The ambiance was fun, the server was friendly, and a lot of the food was fun, and well prepared. But some of our drinks were so bitter that it didn't feel like it could have been intentional, and nothing knocked my socks off.

First yelp review ever and I feel like I'm writing a book report, but hey I really like this place so...I'm doing it! So, I'm not one to get out much, but when I do this is definitely always high on my list. If it's early enough (I'm a late nighter) I will end up here. Their cocktail offerings, and execution of said list is "craft," to say the least. Their drink, "Tiger House" along with another (couldn't find the name on the menu on site right now (think it's called something "swing") is homeopathic even. I've started sneezing many a time from it and it helps to clear sinus headaches. Their food is also very very good. I would say some of it is a bit rich, but that is probably just for me because I am a bland eater unless it's spicy/hot food. I can't tolerate a lot of fat and salt due to dietary restrictions. Everyone I have been there with loves it. The menu does change (thank God if you go there often) so that is nice. I would recommend the Parmesan Polenta, Fromage Fort (with extra baguette), the Rotissierie Chicken, the Hanger Steak, the sausage dishes (for men), and any preparation of anything mushroom!! Also for the haters: yes, the environment is a bit like the show, "Cheers" but that is part of what makes this place awesome. Everyone working there has been in the service industry for years (google the place, talk to those who work there) so it is kind of a Catch 22 that they may know someone, or everyone who walks through their doors. They are definitely more than willing to explain any/all of their dishes to you though and always seem interested in making new friends. If you are confused by a dish, I recommend using your phone to google it if they are packed or if you are comfortable just ask your neighbor. If it was me I would be happy to tell you! Hope you will check it out and enjoy. Just please leave me a seat if I come rolling in at 10PM on a Sunday looking for dinner!

Goodkind. Cool wallpaper. My fried green tomatoes weren't terrible. Server was attentive. Moving on past the good stuff I have got to get to the not as good stuff. Our group of five shared three appetizers: 1) cheese plate 2) fried mushrooms 3) calamari. 1) was too small thus difficult to share and too boring. The side of julienned bi-colored beets were the most fun on that plate. 2) you couldn't pay me to order these again. Didn't taste mushroom. Way too much salt. Already doused in the runny sweet/punch of tangy sauce which I don't like. Sauce is too particular amongst people, it's always good practice to keep it on the side and let the varying palates decide if they enjoy it and how much of it. Plus you negate the chances of soggy deep fried breading. 3) you couldn't pay me to order these again. Wait ... I just said that. Sorry. What you don't know about the calamari before you order it is that there's about a 35% to 65% ratio of calamari to everything else. Everything else includes lemon (whole slices of breaded deep fried lemon) and onions all over the place (in slivers and in halved slices). The remoulade sauce was delicious, though. For my meal I had the chicken liver crostini's with gin pickles. The pickles I liked! Not sure where the gin come from - but tasty nonetheless. The chicken livers I could not stand. Chalky, gritty and too runny texturally. I could not eat them after 1-1/2 out of the 6 that were on the plate. I grew up eating liverwurst/braunschweiger so it's not that I've never had it or didn't know what I was ordering. My mouth didn't like it. Part two of my meal was the fried green tomatoes. The best thing I had for the night but still not as good as other places such as Bosley's on Brady. There was diced heart on top. I appreciate that! I like interesting things and using all of the animal (and also grew up eating different foods than most other kids). There was a bacon gravy - say what?! Corn wasn't mentioned in the menu but there was a lot of it on the plate. The two slices of FGT were decently hearty. I was searching for the horseradish that was claimed to be in existence in the dish and wondered if it were these tiny deep fried crunchy things that had no flavor, as if they were potatoes. Little things, the size of skinny shreds of Parmesan cheese. But I love horseradish flavor - could it be? The server eventually confirmed yes. It's not worth including horseradish if you are going to render it tasteless. No point. And please don't falsely excite me. I guess most people wouldn't notice this but I did. Cause I love horseradish. The drinks were insanely expensive. The portions small for the price. I'm sorry that I couldn't post a better review. But it's my honesty. I wouldn't go out of my way or bring friends here when there's so many fantastic options in Milwaukee!

First time at Goodkind at the recommendation of a colleague. The service was outstanding and the food was awesome. We haven't been to an establishment where the bartenders were as friendly and engaging as at Goodkind. They were more than helpful in assisting us with our selections of specialty cocktails. They know their craft from mixing a drink to the find art of conversation. Even while extremely busy. The food was excellent. I had the scallops at the recommendation of a couple who was eating at the bar. Great choice. Our waiter was equally as friendly and helpful with suggestions and descriptions of the items on the menu. Our party of four was was delivered a delightful experience. We drove in from Pewaukee and it was well worth the mileage. We will be back. This is a Bayview gem!

I love Milwaukee. I love Milwaukee restaurants. I love supporting Milwaukee and its restaurants. I was excited to go to Goodkind tonight. I've heard great things. The space is great--cozy, eclectic, colorful without being overwhelming--and the service folks have a knowledgeable way about them. It drew a good crowd, too--a nice mix of older and younger, etc. Felt good to be there. And the host was terrific. The highlight of the meal was the drinks. I had a cocktail that was sublime. My partner had a great saison. Both were outstanding. The food, however, was much discussed after the meal. We started with calamari, admittedly a banal choice. But we had heard good things. It's true that the calamari was tender; however, there was very little of it (4 small pieces, maybe) and more of the fried onions and a few fried lemons. My honest suggestion for the chefs: Consider using preserved lemons and not fried ones in order to try to cut the fried bit somewhat. There were lots of "fried nothing" bits on the plate, too. It was disappointing. The Caesar salad was good. The anchovies were bright and appealing. Probably the highlight of the meal. We finished with the crab pasta dish. Here is where my husband and I were most disappointed. We love Dungeoness crab and weren't expecting a big pile of it for $18. But the crab was cold, piled on a heavy red sauce with extremely spicy pepperoni. I love red sauce. I love pepperoni. I love pasta. In fact, I love all the ingredients in this dish; however, it was completely unbalanced and just odd. I thought to myself, "Well, maybe we just ordered the wrong things tonight." But then I got to thinking some more: A restaurant of this quality, with this following, shouldn't have "wrong things" on its menu, period. This dish reads like, "Hey! What do I have left over in my fridge? Let me throw it together because I'm tired and don't want to think of how to use these ingredients to make sense together but damn I'm hungry so just feed me already." And I really, REALLY wanted to like it. So, overall, two stars is proper for my experience. The place is charming; the drinks are great. The food, though--and I know I'm an outlier for the reviews on Yelp--is not so great. I appreciate the lower price point, but a bit more thought and care could be taken with the composition of the dishes. And I don't want to have just ordered the "wrong thing" in the city that I love and support.

Had heard a lot of great things about Goodkind, so decided to check it out, must say I was a little underwhelmed with most things we ordered. We had a larger group so tried an array of different dishes. The highlight was the Brussel Sprout Salad, the seaweed chips and the fried chickpeas. I was very disappointed with the two lamb dishes we had and both lacked flavor and were overcooked and chewy. That being said the staff was extremely friendly, but we had called a week before to make reservation for our party of 6 for 7pm we were told the earliest tabble would be at 7:30. When we got to the restraunt there we 3 other other tables being served all under 4 people, don't know why we had to wait till 7:30.

Giving 2 stars only because I haven't had the opportunity to try the food after my first attempt. I absolutely hate when restaurants know they are popular and as a result, treat patrons who don't have reservations on a Thursday around 5, when the place is not even close to packed mind you, like they are of a lower standard. Upon walking in we noticed several tables outside and passed a server who was walking out. Host asked if we had a reservation, we replied that we did not. He then seemed confused and we asked if it was ok to sit at the nearest booth, he nodded yes. After sitting down he came to our table to inform us that the booths were for bigger parties only and asked we either sit at the bar or outside, since all the non-booth options were taken. We opted for the outdoors option, only to be met by the same server we saw coming in, she looked incredibly upset that she had patrons who wanted to sit outside. There was some awkward shuffling and finally we decided the whole situation was ridiculous and not worth trying the place and drove to Lazy Susan!

Considering that the people behind Goodkind were associated with Odd Duck, Roots and Burnhearts I had very high expectations going in - and for the most part, they were met. Interior: looks like someone's Pinterest had a little too much and threw up all over the place. I mean that in a fairly good way, but expect lots of "conscious quirky" going on. I do really like the William Morris wallpaper & the interior is a definite step up from the old Mama DiMarini's (known to me as "the DiMarini's with better pizza but the one that smells like urinal cake") Menu: they've got something for everyone. Adventurous? Veal heart carpaccio or lavender/anchovy lamb might suit. Vegetarian? They've got eggplant steaks for you. Feeling naughty? There's a "deep fried" section. Overall, it was a great mix of small & large plates, different proteins and varied preparations. A specialty here is the rotisserie (more on that later). Drinks: a well chosen beer & wine list are present, but you'll be sorely tempted by the dozen or so craft cocktail choices. They make their own ginger beer & bitters, so they're serious. I tried the Little Rose and the Goodnight West Coast, plus sips from some others and found the cocktails to be well balanced and delicious. FYI - if you're a Negroni drinker, they make the Negroniest Negroni ever. Either you'll love it or you really, really won't. Food: Chicken is often a throwawy dish at places, on the menu for the person who's like "ugggh, all of that is so weeeeiiirddd, I'll have the chicken." Not here - the house roasted rotisserie chicken is juicy, flavorful and all around amazing. Fried chickpeas make a tasty starter or snack, and the chicken liver mousse toasts were absolutely perfect. I also had a housemade pork pate that was "ok" - good texture but woefully underseasoned. FYI - the "fromage fort" is not, in fact, cheese in the shape of a fort (alas) but French for "strong cheese" - it's a little like blue cheese + quark & it's tasty. Service: really good, considering they were completely packed. Our server had great recommends and kept on top of our many questions & requests. Value: high. Like Odd Duck, prices for small plates are in the $8-13 range and large plates are around $20-25. Considering the quality and care that go into things here that's a great value. Overall: I shall return.

Went to Goodkind for first time tonight. The food was very good; however I felt that I was someone Goodkind had to serve vs. wished to serve as a single person walk-in. Service was a bit rushed. An appetizer and small plate had just been set down and before I had eaten one bite, the bartender/server asked if I wanted to order anything else. When I had finished my cocktail, I wasn't asked if I wanted sonething else. Lastly, after two women to my left had left, I was asked if I'd "mine" if I'd move down two spots to the right to seat a 4 top. While the person was polite and asked, did I really have a choice? If I have refused, I would be the jerk. Got to wonder if Goodkind would have asked the two women to move down. So feeling like I was being pushed around, I abruptly settled up and left. Objectively, I would say the food is great. If you are a single person walk-in, be prepared that you may be bounced around.

We tried Goodkind on a Monday a two weeks ago. If you want a quiet intimate dinner setting then please go somewhere else or try to eat at one of the tables outside. It can be a bit loud but it is vibrant. We tried to some small plates and I have to say the eggplant dish was our favorite and had the best value for the taste. The other entrees were very good as well but I thought that the price/value was slightly off. The rotisserie plates that were coming out to other tables did look amazing...next time :) The cocktail menu is quite amazing and their beer selection is top notch. Our service was excellent and the décor is phenomenal. With all of the good restaurants opening I am sure they will continue to do well but the competition is getting very fierce in Milwaukee. I will go back again but I still rank AP (All Purpose) ahead of Goodkind for small plates. Another great restaurant to add to our city.

I been at this place before and thought I bring a friend along last week, they really liked it; the food is good aside of me being vegan and only a few options for me I still enjoy this restaurant. The drinks are great :) just don't freakout when they bring your martini glass, the glasses look like tiny little toy martini glasses its a bit funny. I am brining another group this weekend.

To start the decor and building is very inviting. We stopped in for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. It was quiet and the bartenders were friendly and the drink selection was quite good. Very relaxing. Need to go back and try the food.

Found a new favorite restaurant! Loved everything from the very eclectic atmosphere to the fresh flowers surrounding the restaurant. The mandrake was the perfect drink to transport you to paradise with the fresh orchid and delicately refreshing flavor. The wedge salad was fresh and delicious. The scallops were perfectly flavored and cooked. Then we ended the meal with chocolate ice cream and cookies. As someone who doesn't love sweets, I could have skipped the dessert because it wasn't anything special but a fine take on a classic. The staff was great - very friendly and attentive. I'll be back!

My boyfriend were having a late dinner (~9ish) and took a chance on getting a table at the new trendy grubery in town. Take in mind that in writing this review, I'm comparing it to the other hotspots in town, not the chillis on 43rd street. The beer menu is probably the most outstanding I've ever seen. I like to experiment with beers, and most on this menu were those I've never heard of. There was a variety to suit every fancy- I got a saison/white sage beer from Maryland. It was extremely smooth, and did the trick... if you know what I mean. :) I would totally recommend every plate we ordered. -Broccoli Salad: Crisp and delicious. A great fresh plate to prepare the stomach for richer plates. -Scallops: WOW. You only get 2, so it's definitely perfect to split as an appetizer. - Eggplant Steak: DELICIOUS, but also tiny. Be prepared, as their description makes it sounds gigantic, and this is not the case. -Potato Rissoto: Savory and delicious. Could I totally whip it up at home? Maybe. See for yourself, as it's also delish. We got an amazing almond/cherry custard pie thing for dessert. Get it. Apparently it's popular, and for good reason. Why is it not 5 stars?? The variety is minimal. There's just not really a lot of options. I think when youre dealing with such small plates, you need just a few more things on the menu. I'm not talking a ton more, but maybe 3 or 4 appealing dishes. Especially when you are dealing with some controversial items (achem... sweetbreads), you want a few dishes that will appeal to a larger audience. All in all it was amazing. I can't wait to go back, and I'll definitely update my review once I see them get into the swing of things as I realize they just opened up.

I went to Goodkind once, and most likely won't return. Caveat emptor - I don't eat meat, which I know is their forte. But with everyone making so much noise about Goodkind, I, too, wanted my socks knocked off. The alcohol selection is impressive - but almost ridiculously expensive. And the cocktails are so tiny. Not that I'm looking to get hammered, but it was a cute little cocktail. I'd have been fine drinking it and moving on to water, but once I emptied my water glass, the server did not return, and I was left drinkless. I had scallops, and my husband had the spicy crab pasta. He ordered it without the pepperoni, but it came with pepperoni anyways. The server did not offer to make up for the mistake, because he did not come back to the table once while we ate. The food was fine - not awesome, not bad. I left hungry. The entree was small, and costly enough to discourage me from ordering something else. The service seemed good at first, but declined steadily throughout the evening. Our waiter was wearing a sweatshirt. Not that I expect him to wear a suit, but he seemed kind of sloppy. Overall, I feel like Goodkind wants their trendy character to carry the restaurant, and that's really not good enough. The lack of attention to detail will make me head elsewhere.

The place: the inside was packed at 7pm on a Saturday night, so we only caught a glimpse of the inside- we saw the artists/bartenders hard at work. We sat outside, thankful for the lovely evening, and listened eagerly as our waiter described the cocktails with enthusiasm. Service was pretty good, especially for how crowded it was. We were seated outside right away, but I'm not sure if people arriving after us were so lucky. The taste: I demanded we started with the fried chickpeas. It was a full cauldron that I ate most of. I really liked the crunchy texture, and didn't mind the paprika/miscellaneous red spices on my fingers. We also each got a cocktail - the mandrake for me - fruity but not so overpoweringly sweet, and the "as good as it gets" or something like that for my husband- like an Arnold Palmer but with black cherries. Also very good. He had the spicy crab and octopus chorizo bucatini which he said was really filling. I had the copper river salmon. I thought the salmon tasted fine but was a little under seasoned. Maybe i shouldn't have expected to be wow-ed, but I was expecting it, and the salmon was fine, but not melt-in-your-mouth amazing. The sides- the golden beets, the dandelion marmalade, the pickled carrots- those I was wowed by. And the Canales for dessert- my only complaint is that they were so small. I didn't want to share that dish, but it was a unique texture that I appreciated. My face: a daydreamer's grin as I plan what to taste next time....$65 for dinner for two - 2 cocktails, an app, a dessert, and 2 entrees. Reasonable for the atmosphere, quality, and artistic prowess of the staff.

AH-MAZING. Went out with a friend on a weeknight for a special dinner. New places like this make me LOVE this city. We shared three dishes and a dessert. Clean-plated it all! The three dishes we had in order of deliciousness are: 1. Chanterelle Mushroom: omg I could order this a hundred times. The flavors were wonderful. 2. Crab Bucatini (minus the pepperoni): large(r) dish with good helping of crab 3. Salmon: I would not order this again. The Copper River salmon was out of this world, but the side (I can't remember even what it was) was not a hit with me. BEER! the beer menu is top notch. Small, but rare, special-beer-nerd choices. Value of food was spot on. We ordered three dishes, a dessert and two beers and spent maybe about $75. I don't love spending a ton on dinner, but this was worth it for sure. Service - the sweetest, most beautiful person was a wonderful addition to the experience. Decor was so fun. I loved all of the glass vases and fresh wildflowers.

This place is a nice breath of fresh air in Milwaukee! Great food and fair prices. The larger entrees, meats, are thick and delicious. Seasoned deliciously, those that are used to normal restaurant food will have to add salt but I found it very refreshing to take a but and not have it be full of sodium. They only opened recently, but everything went smoothly and it was delicious. Outside of my price point for regular visits, but good for a special event like a birthday or anniversary. I got the scallops for $15 and only got two (delicious) scallops so I had to order the duck soup to fill me up.

Whenever I travel, I like to discover a great restaurant in which to enjoy a fun dinner. This, being my first trip to the metropolis of Milwaukee (!!) was no exception. So, I hit the "internets" and discovered this place. At about 7 PM, got in the rental and used Waze to guide me the 15 mins it took from the downtown area into Bayview. Looking for the restaurant in this cute, VERY residential hood was easy and so was finding a space. Having lived in Manhattan's West village - I can make this statement with confidence - this place would fit right into Manhattan's West village!! Great beers, wines and an impressively creative menu!! A buzzy atmos and great bartenders (One of whom was a co-owner). Decisions Decisions!!! Had the Lamb Ragu Parpadelle 'little plate' (still pretty generous for an app) - intense flavors, wonderful homemade pasta. Next up - new item on the menu - Scallop Boudin Blanc in a tomato 'sauce' - just wow. One expertly crafted Martini helped add to the entire experience. Finally a creme Brûlée - coz...why not? Burp. $60. Brilliant!! Totally recommend!

Great decor...awesome lamps. But the food was definitely sub par. The "bites" were tasty, I'm a sucker for popcorn. But my entree was cold, and rather than preparing a new one, they heated up what I had and brought it back. I know this because the bite I had taken was still there. So basically I paid to eat leftovers. It was insulting. Apart from being cold and then dry after reheating, my "braised" goat was basically a boring chili. They market themselves as having kitschy and unique plates, but truly they have no idea what they're doing and I doubt anyone in that kitchen has any reputable experience. Their menu has "buy a round for the kitchen" HAHA. Classy. I will never go back to this restaurant. They're gonna tank in 6 months.

This place has great food. What sets this place apart from others is it's unique/creative combinations of food. It's not unique, as in super stuffy and foods you don't know. It's just interesting combinations that I would never think of putting together, but they taste great. We ordered about 5 entrees, one appetizer, and a 2 deserts (and drinks). Each plate was really good and a first on all entrees. Good stuff. My only thought that I wasn't crazy about was the cost. I knew ahead of time what I was in for, but I don't know if it warrants the prices. I would go back once in a rare while, but generally speaking, the cost is going to steer me away from going more often. Small point to think about when going there: When you enter, it appears their front door is on the corner. It's a cool looking door with glass on top and a few entry steps to the door. It looks like it should be the entrance. It's not though. If you walk up like I did (and a few others I noticed), it's closed and you end up walking up, looking down on people eating. Go to the SIDE of the restaurant where the sign is. This may sound obvious, but a few people made the same mistake this night.

We had to get reservations for a Monday night....but it did live up to the hype! I had the halibut and it was the perfect balance of all ingredients and loved a little savory salty combo! Friends had the steak and scallops and we're not disappointed. I also had banana gnocchi for dessert and was in love! I will definitely go back!

Girl's Night Out last Thursday evening was a fun time at Goodkind. The service was excellent for our large group of women, despite the fact the place was packed inside and outside at the sidewalk tables. Apparently, there was a beer tasting happening at the bar, so that's cool. I had a good craft brew that I hadn't tried before (can't remember the name) and it came from a nitro tap. Yee Haw! I love nitro as it makes the head like whip cream. We shared the spicy chick peas for a starter and they were really good little crispy treats. Not sure what the spice was, but it tasted like sriracha. For the main course, I had the crab bucatini and it was delicious! There was a good helping of crab meat and the most delicious thick bites of a high quality pepperoni. The sauce was flavorful, but the pepperonis set it over the top. I wanted to try one of their desserts that looked so good, but no room. All in all, it was a fun night with good company and good food.

First time patrons. This place had a great neighborhood feel. Food was fantastic, particularly the currywurst and half chicken. Beer menu was solid, with some great locals like Karben4 as well as imports like drei fontienen. Finally, the price was pretty damn reasonable. I'll definitely head back.

I expected a lot out of Goodkind given the recent amount of good restaurants popping up in the area. Things were off. We went on a Sunday at around 6 pm and the wait to eat inside was crazy. No big deal because they did have outside seating, though the tables were pretty much on the sidewalk. I don't mind eating like a street animal so I won't count this against them. The drinks were ok but not very memorable. The service was eh. I say this because with weird menus you kind of have to expect to explain what everything is to everybody. There really wasn't an explanation for anything so portions were a surprise. Medium sized plates were small. The rocky mountain oyster plate had 4 balls. The salmon was like a few bites. The chick pea thing - don't get that. You are probably thinking it would be nice to chew on something while you wait for food but these aren't worth wearing out your mouth muscles. The best thing were the cucumber sandwiches. They were great. But you kind of have to expect that when your ingredients are bread, cream cheese and cucumbers. Biggest downfalls: having no idea what I'm about to eat, small portions, kind of high prices, meh service. Biggest success - cream cheese bread. I would try other places and wait for Goodkind to get her groove back.

This place is like a big city bar/restaurant, including the prices. I'm not sure how well it will work to charge $12 for a glass of wine in Wisconsin. Nonetheless, the menu (which changes daily) is exceptional. The Brussels sprout salad made me like Brussels sprouts. The cocktails were good, but not exceptional. It's a good place, but maybe not as good as it thinks it is. Yet. I have faith in it, though its location outside of the usual tourist areas might work against it.

I'm going to preface this review by saying I had high expectations for Goodkind. My friends and coworkers had been raving about it, so I went in expecting a really awesome experience. But I don't think "awesome" fits the bill for the dinner I recently had with friends there. I'm torn between a two and three star review. I think there's potential here, so I'm going to go with the more generous rating. First, the good: The atmosphere is great! I really love the decor. Great lighting, pretty deco-ish wallpaper, cute little details everywhere you look. It's the kind of place where you want to hang out. So bravo for that! And our service was pretty good. There was a bit of a mix up with my order (I ordered a no-pepperoni version of a dish and it was switched with another diner's yay-pepperoni version at the pickup station), but the server was super apologetic and I had a new, steaming hot dish in front of me in a few minutes. I get that mistakes happen, and he handled it really well. The food was where there were some issues. The value just wasn't there for the price we were paying. The atmosphere and menu selections (rotisserie and plenty of fried stuff) don't indicate premium prices, but my drink was $12 and my pasta was $18. At that price point, in that type of restaurant, I really expect something outstanding, and while most of my food was decent, it wasn't great or particularly memorable. Our calamari was mostly lemons and onions (yes, I was there with Pamela M.). I liked the concept, but it wasn't what I was expecting and I would have liked more calamari in my calamari. I only got one little piece! I liked the mushroom dish, but the fried aspect kind of overwhelmed any mushroom flavor. And the cheese plate was really small compared to what you get at comparable restaurants in the area. My pasta dish, once I had the right version, was pretty good. Not particularly spicy, but I enjoyed the crab. Out of everyone at our table, I probably enjoyed my main dish the most. The bucatini was a nice change from the typical pasta types. All in all, even though I wasn't blown away by Goodkind, I'd probably be willing to give it another try based on the buzz I'm still hearing. But with so many consistently good options in the area, I'd need a little persuading.

We stumbled upon this place when we didn't have a reservation somewhere else. We sat outside on the patio and had a great waitress. She offered to let us have samples of wine and beer. The entrees were a good portion size and very filling. The menu changes each day or so and is very delicious. We also got dessert and shared everything. I would give this 4.5 stars if it were possible. If I am near downtown Milwaukee again, I would definitely come back.

Went here last week with a friend of mine and I'm definitely a fan and also already excited to go back. Since it's newer and gaining popularity quickly I recommend getting a reservation. I went on a Wednesday with a table of two and it was jam packed. Luckily I was able to find a seat at the bar. Drinks: They have an awesome selection of beer on tap most of which I haven't even heard of which is awesome because I like to try new stuff and broaden my horizons. Try the Gangster Frog IPA (great name, great beer). They also have an extensive list of creative and somewhat seasonal craft cocktails (also a huge fan of these, don't leave without trying one.....or three) Food we shared: Pork Pate: I had never had anything like this but as I said I love trying new things. It was different but I don't know if it is something I would order again but if you're into that kind of thing its a great starter plate. Calamari: I love love love calamari and I always like to try it at any place where I think there's a good chance of it being amazing. It wasn't the best i've ever had but it was definitely good and came with a decent portion for a small plate. Salmon: You can never go wrong with salmon. This was a tasty and quality piece of fish however it was a little under cooked for my liking but I won't knock them for that because that's just personal preference Potato Risotto: I wasn't sure what was going to come out when we ordered this. It's literally potato risotto. Not risotto with potatoes in it. However, it's amazingly delicious. This was the favorite plate of the night. Order it. Great dining experience, friendly staff and a cool environment inside. I will definitely be coming back soon to try one of the rotisseries.

Went there for NYE. Terrible experience. Service was bad. Food was sub par. We wont be back. It's trendy. But that's it. Goodkind gets by because they're service industry people. Here's what happened .. we went up to the bar while waiting for our table. You had 3 bartenders on. Not one acknowledged us. We tried sitting at a seat and were rudely told those seats were taken. Ok then. When one did open up, it was almost a chore for the male bartender to wait on us. FAIL. It's like they were just too good for us. You have a beautifully written drink menu, but if your staff is too pretentious to execute it, what does it matter? When we were finally sat, our menus were dropped off and the server disappeared. Your menu does need a tad but of explaining if you've never eaten there before. Are you small plate? Meant for sharing? What's the deal? Not only that, but the table next to us must have been friends of the host because she waited on them hand and foot. You know what that meant? We STARED AT HER ASS our whole meal. She continually wedged herself between our table and her friends. A tad uncomfortable. When our "spicy crab pasta" did arrive, it wasn't spicy at all. It was rather bland. The " lump" of crab meat on top was laden with crab shells. My pork belly wasn't bad, I was excited to eat it. But it just fell short. I understand you're busy. I've been in the service industry for 10 plus yrs. I understand nye. Its a sh#t show. Youre booked to capacity. The end of the night cant come soon enough. But that doesn't mean you skimp on service. Or quality. But we were excited to finally try you. I don't fit your "hipster" demographic your going for. But be careful. You never know who your servicing at your bar or next table. We should all be given the same service.

I loved my visit here! Food was superb. Great beer list and fantastic cocktails. Probably one of my favorite things on drink list, though, is the option to buy the kitchen a round of beer. (If you've ever worked in a restaurant you know how hard the kitchen works for very little money, get them some damn beer, it's the least you can do.) We sat at the bar for probably a full three-four minutes without being greeted. The people next to us gave us their menus, which was nice. Overall, the service was a tad slow...but they just opened, I imagine it will take a little bit for everyone to get their "groove." Only other complaint was that our entrees came out a little cool on the inside. Buuuut, they were so damn delicious it didn't even matter. I will definitely be back here, and I would suggest you get here soon. PLUS they serve food until 1am. Win.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin Technically I believe this may be Bay View, WI. Great atmosphere/service/drinks. I ate here in late Sept 2014. I believe they've only been open for a couple of months, nonetheless a cool little place with a great 'vibe'. I had the seaweed app and the goat cheese app, the monk fish and a panna cotta dessert. The monk was great, the others were good. I hear the menu changes pretty frequently. I gave 4 stars based on the overall experience. I ate at the bar and was thus served by several folks. Without exception all were excellent. The drinks were very good as well. I believe I had something called 'cant think of the name of it'. That was the actual name of the drink. Really great. I was disappointed in the seaweed and goat cheese but both were good. I just expected them to be great.

This restaurant is new to the restaurant scene however it seems that they are already making their way to the top of the charts!! Kudos to the team...great service and amazing food!!!! We'll be back!!! The chicken was probably the best I've had in a long time.

Really good food but slightly overpriced for what you get. I had fish that was $19 and I finished it in about five bites. My bad for ordering it, but I thought I'd get a little bit more food. I'm not talking like tons of food, but a small side would've been nice. I think I left hungry. The atmosphere is gorgeous though, so that kinda made up for the dearth of food. Also, the menu is a little challenging to decipher. The waitress was helpful though. I think if I go back I'll go for appetizers and drinks - I've heard the drinks are good.

Great gem in a bay view neighborhood. The dark ambiance makes a great date spot. Our table was not impressed by the small plates at all but the entrees were amazing. Hence the 1 star less.

This is another of the great restaurants in the growing Milwaukee style "foody" scene. Their menu is a great mix. The waitstaff and bar staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The prices are reasonable. Go here eat and have an experience.

I read all of these reviews and saw a lot of 2-star ratings and 5-star ratings. I went in with that in mind and I also avoided the dishes that other yelp reviewers warned against. Our server was really sweet and assured us that she had plenty of time to take our party of 9 people, so I'm giving the restaurant a star for that. The setup of the restaurant is really dumb. There's a HUGE bar that takes up the entire restaurant and tables are squished to the perimeter of the restaurant, BUT bathrooms were clean, the oversized bar was still a nice looking bar, and the overall feel was welcoming so they get a star for that. My gnocchi was pretty good, my seitan with avacado purée and corn was outstanding, and my chicken was good. The chicken was dry actually but the vegetables served with it were well seasoned with good flavor. Not worth $20, but it's a half a chicken so I'll let it slide and give them a star for that. Lastly, we were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a complimentary desert with a candle in it which was awesome. So, all in all 4 stars. Avoid the fried chickpeas though. Spicy and dry. Need some sort of glaze or dip.

Overall, good meal, GREAT cocktails. Unrecognizable transformation from the old pizza joint that previously occupied the building! The service was adequate. Noise level is loud so be prepared. The starters that we had were fantastic with a few mixed reviews on the main courses. The brussel sprout salad was a fan favorite as was the fried calamari. The Formage Fort, was a little disappointing in that it wasn't an actual fort built of cheese, but it was delicious nonetheless. For main courses, the pork belly from the rotisserie was perfectly cooked. Just the right amount of belly fat and tasted more like a well seasoned, juicy pork chop than any pork belly I've had before. The sides were all a little meh and what leaned this review more toward the 4 stars than 5. The octopus dish was awesome. I have never had octopus so tender. The scallops must have been good because they were not shared with anyone else. Dessert, which further brings this review to a 4 vs 5, could use another go. We shared one dessert so the others could have been better but the shortbread was not very good. If you prefer your desserts vegan and without sweetness, this would be for you. I, on the other hand, prefer desserts that taste like dessert and less like the result of your mother going on a diet and trying to give you a low-cal alternative to what dessert should be.

Absolutely top notch, the expectations for this place were huge and they have been met in every way. The service is friendly, the food is fresh and inventive, and the drinks are delicious. I highly recommend the fennel pollen brined rotisserie chicken. During the summer I had a Pacific sardine dish - hopefully they'll bring that one back this year...

I want to change my star review from a 1 to a 2 because I realized that I couldn't fairly compare Good Kind to some of the 1 star dining experiences we've had. Since I can't downgrade those reviews, I'm bumping this one up out of fairness.

  • Maggy A.

Great spot, but honestly fell a bit short of my expectations. Food was quite pricey considering most of it was just OK. I would especially steer clear of the fried section even as tempting as the options sound. Another reviewer said it best when they described the fried items as mostly fried bits and much less actual food. Plus, I've had more delectable apps from the fryers in dive bars. The drinks, however, were stellar and the ambiance further added to my experience. Super on trend and cute, offering Milwaukee something pretty novel. Great date spot, especially for your 20 or 30 something. I have the best things to say about our service. Our waitress (Sofia Vergara) was beautiful and gracious and made the whole experience super worthwhile. Her service was prompt, professional, and personal. Hats off! I'll totally be back, but maybe just for drinks!

I really really enjoyed my meal here. I will go on record and say, I truly believe this restaurant is much better than that other bay view joint. You know the one with the small plates that's on kk? Yeah. The cocktails are amazing! My dining partner had the spicy crab pasta and thought the pepperoni was the star of that show. I had a swordfish dish that was a special that evening I believe? I don't see it on the current menu. It was grand. What I think really sealed the deal was the house made sodas. One of our dining duo does not consume alcohol (gasp! In milwaukee?!? I know!). It is so refreshing to be able to order a crafted drink without alcohol and it doesn't have to be water or diet coke. And they tasted great! The place is beautiful too. Will certainly head back, soon I hope.

Most flavorful, delicious food in the city with the best ingredients! Absolutely perfect portions. Never too full or too hungry. Delicious drinks! Great for vegans. Delicious vegetables on entrees that everyone eats. Never have seen a plate with food left on it. Open late which is a nice option!

Second time here. Chicken liver mousse was delightful. The pickled onions cut through the richness of the mousse and the crunchy crostini added a textural element that completed a simple but delicious bite. The champagne battered mushrooms were one of the best things I have eaten all year. I believe my exact words were "I don't ever want to stop eating these mushrooms". Pear & parsnip latkes come with horseradish cream and cranberry marmalade, which I thought would not work together until I took a bite and found out they absolutely do. The spicy crab pasta was a bit of a miss for me. Not to say that it was bad but the crab got lost in all the other bold flavors and the shape of the pasta was kind of challenging to eat - too thick to wrap around a fork like spaghetti but too thin to attempt to stab it. Service was wonderful, as were the cocktails. If you have a friend who only eats chicken tenders and pizza I wouldn't bring them here but I think most people would be able to find something on the menu that suits them.

Great addition to Milwaukee. I appreciate the attention to detail that is evident in everything from the food to the decor to the design of the menu itself. The ambiance is both warm and energizing at the same time. The thoughtful cocktail list alone makes Goodkind worth checking out. Seriously outstanding craft cocktails that won't leave you disappointed.

LOOOOOVE!!!! This place is so amazing! First off, the craft cocktails are fricken fantastic! The beer selection is awesome- both bottle and draft! Food, you won't be disappointed with any dish you order! I love their calamari and I don't even like calamari!!! The staff is helpful and kind and smiling always! 2 super awesome things about this place, the owners are elbow and knee deep helping their staff in whatever's going on during service, AND you can buy a round of high life's for the back of house for $15! What a way to say thank you to the people that create you delicious food! Awesome! Don't forget to tip your server/bartender 20% for being helpful and amazing! These people work their butts off!

Our experience fell FAR below expectations. The food was passable, but the experience was an abomination. We had reservations, and were seated with annoying delay. When seated in the bench/table seats, I had people at my sides that were likely close enough to count my nostril hair. It felt a return to pre-school. Aside from that, the waitstaff continually bumped into the back of my chair (without apology) until I asked to be seated outside for a bit of space. This accomodation was made without problem, then our new waiter appears wearing shorts, and sporting enough leg hair to nest a family of seven sparrows. It was a particularly cool night, there was absolutely no need for that type of dress. Also, not exactly what I want in my food and drink....unless body hair is a new trend in drink elixir. Aside from that, the beer selection was hardly-remarkable, and the food was adequate...nothing special, and nothing that justified a return trip. A bad showing for this establishment, and for Bay View...still the second fiddle to the East side.

A friend recommended this restaurant to me and I'm glad he did. I walked in and couldn't handle how cute it was. Great details in everything and fresh flowers around the windows and on the tables. The food was amazing. The pork ribs were so tender they just fell off the bone. They also have a unique beer selection. I had the creme brulee for desert and it was amazing, worth saving room for. I will be back soon.

WHAT A BEER LIST!!!! This bar gets lots of comments in regards to it's drink menu (and rightfully so). However, the beer list is always ignored. They have 10+ beers on tap, and not one is something you'd find at a typical restaurant (let alone a bar with lots of taps). Highly recommend stopping in for a pint and some fried chick peas. Then maybe staying for dinner (and another beer). And finally stay for dessert (and of course, another beer).

Spent $155 w/tip for dinner for two and then spent the next 18 hours barfing it up. The only people visiting should be the health department. I'd especially focus on the cooking oils and the oyster stuffing. The staff should be less focused on drinking and more on throwing out spoiled food and keeping the kitchen clean.

Everything about the food at this restaurant is amazing! From the fried chickpeas to the stout cake and everything in-between it was delicious! The decor was warm and inviting, and the service was impeccable. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was RUINED by music being blasted so loudly it was difficult to have a conversation. Next time I go I'll sit outside.

Table for 5 on a Monday night. We shared 3 small plates, each was one was delicious. Our waitress recommend the wines and they were perfect. The main plates were salmon, pizza and scallops. Each one was unique and great. Waitress was so nice and all of us will be back.

The dining room is very small, but very comfortable. Great ambiance. The wait staff was very attentive and I especially appreciated our personal server. He seemed genuine and friendly, plus knew the menu well. He made me and my friends feel right at home. The food was good, but I wasn't blown away. I had the walleye and though it was cooked perfectly, there just wasn't much seasoning. It didn't wow my taste buds which I thought it should since this place isn't cheap. Overall though, very nice experience. We lucked out on a table without a reservation though, so I recommend making one before you decide to dine here. Not a lot of space and it seems pretty popular.

TINY portions, just OK food, expensive for what you get. I understand the small plate idea and actually like it very much since you get to try a larger selection of the dishes but we asked our waitress about the portion size of a few things as they were going to be our "main course"... Disappointed. Also it was kind of loud on the night we were there so we asked to sit outside, we were sat next to the loud exhaust fan. Yay. The place looks great though, good job on that front.

Seaweed chips are delectable little morsels with a pop of spice. Curry wurst: never tasted sausage so interesting, tender and delicious. Calamari to die for.... Tender and scrumptious. The sockeye salmon cooked perfectly, beets, and pickled carrots beautiful flavor melding.

Surprised by all the rave reviews. I did think the restaurant was very attractive. Service was OK. We ate at the bar. Food came quickly, bartender was fairly friendly and accommodating, but not outstanding. Spent a lot of money. While I thought the food was good, I expected more bang for the buck. I had the eggplant which was tasty but I thought a little too vinegary. Cesar salad just OK.........not worth $9. So many great restaurants in Milwaukee that I prefer so I probably won't go back. Love Odd Duck and loved Roots but Goodkind I thought was just OK.

This review is seriously overdue. I went to Goodkind with, at the time, a very special person. I checked out the menu first and was totally into it. I get there and the first thing that happens is a man compliments my dress and then shouts something else I wasn't sure about but enjoyed. Later I find he's a patron of Goodkind too and I was happy. I tried a sour beer and it was very interesting. I liked it but could only drink one. We started with the Cesar salad which was great. Then I got the Spicy Crab Pasta which was so amazing! At first I thought it tasted exactly like pizza: like a really, really good pizza. It was even better heated up the next day. I believe the person I was with had the Sea Scallops, which were also amazing. I waited too long to post this so I can't recall what we had for dessert but it was great. Something that was supposed to have cherries but instead had blueberries...didn't even matter though, totally delicious still. I can't recommend this place enough. Any reviews less than four stars, I just don't believe. Oh and the bartender, Melissa, was absolutely perfect. This was a great experience and if you're on the fence about going here, just go. Prices are worth it. And as far as it being a "small plate" type of place, there was plenty of food on my plates. Lovely atmosphere. Perfect for date night. Just a wonderful place. Kudos Goodkind, you're doing it right.

Another five star, because I've had nothing but great experiences here. I live down the street and come in here at least twice a month. I sit at the bar because I prefer that particular atmosphere and the folks at the bar seem to always be the coolest. Stopped by yesterday for their Sunday brunch, since it's fairly new and we hadn't been there in a few weeks and had never tried the brunch menu. Whatever it was that compelled us to do that, please let that force guide me there every Sunday! Whatever. Mike ordered a ton of different things, but the plate that stood out to me most was the mushroom dumplings. It's so rich in flavor and just. so. amazing. I was very excited to bring friends over a few weekends back for Brunch. And they absolutely were wow'd by it. Glad I could introduce a few friends to the amazingness that is Goodkind!

For what it is worth to you, this business is LOUD inside. It makes eating an enjoyable meal quite difficult. I do like the food, and would suggest getting the calamari. I was quite fond of the deep fried lemon slices, and the super tender calamari. Drinks are always stupendous... recently had a Whiskey drink with something like a 1796 or other number in it. It was soooooo smooth that it seemed like had no booze in it. Marvelous flavors. Top notch beer selection always here too. Because it is always painful on the ears, I docked it 1 star. I would have said 4 otherwise. Add some sound damping to kill the noise!!!! I shouldn't have to yell to my companions.

Went back for brunch on a UYE organized by Daniela C. Our service was solid. We dined around 12:30 and the place was fairly quiet. Although when I arrived 30 minutes earlier, every table outside was taken and a group inside was finishing up. I started with a Bloody Mary, served with a Miller High Life chaser. The only garnish is a large celery stalk. They focus on the flavor, which was on the spicy side and delicious. It was not served in the commonly used pint glass, so the $9 price tag didn't carry the value for me. I'll skip it on future visits. I brought a friend who ordered the Ableskiver Pancakes($7) with a goat cheese filling, topped with cardamom powdered sugar and served with a strawberry-rhubarb compote. She liked the flavor and texture of the pancakes, but wow, were they small. There were four of them, a little bigger than a quarter in diameter and about a 1/2 inch thick in the center. She added a scrambled egg on the side ($2), which helped to leave her satisfied, along with some of the dumpling I shared. I didn't expect big pancakes, but I thought 2 pancakes close to the diameter of their latkes would have been appropriate for $7. Again, she liked them. I ordered the Venetian Mushroom Dumplings ($9), served with a soft egg and a delicious spinach puree. The dumplings were prepared differently than I expected, which I liked. They were large with a moist texture. The flavor was good, but not enough to my liking that I would order them again. Maybe a bit more seasoning would have helped. I used the egg yolk and spinach puree to complement the dumpling flavor. The soft egg was spot on. I also ordered the Breakfast Poutine ($11). House cut (I'm assuming) fries are lightly beer-battered and fried, then topped with possibly the best sausage gravy I've ever tasted, a slow egg, arugula and goat cheese curds. I think I only noticed one cheese curd, but to be fair, I inhaled this dish, so I could have missed another. Someone else at the table also ordered the poutine and asked me if I had any curds. They didn't notice any on their plate. The sausage gravy was a lighter color than I expected and not quite as rich, but that was fine because there were large chunks of delicious sausage generously mixed in to the gravy. I loved that the fries were only lightly battered, just enough to notice and add texture. The egg, again, was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It's now close between the poutine and the polenta madame for my favorite brunch dish at Goodkind. I still need to get back soon for the bacon and cheddar risotto, and Hangar Steak and eggs!

A-maz-ing! One of my pet peeves is the whole "small plates" trend, so I was a little dubious about the menu, but a-ha! They also have large plates too. So we ordered small plates as apps and large plates as our main, and we were stuffed. The portion sizes (especially on the fried mushrooms and bucatini) were enormous for a restaurant like this with quality food. I liked the decor and feel of the place. Sure, it's kind of hipstery and Bohemian, but I don't feel that it's inauthentic here. I get the vibe, I like it. It's different. Maybe it's not your vibe, but that's ok. I don't think I could handle the vibe every week, but this is more of a special event kind of place for me anyway. The food was pretty awesome, but the cocktails were even better. Get the In the Rain on Royal St., you won't regret it. And one had me feeling good, even with all the pasta carbs. Nice. The mushrooms, while delicious and a massive shareable portion, had a rather heavy batter for such delicate mushrooms, meaning that you barely knew there were mushrooms under there. Perhaps a lighter tempura-type batter would be nicer, but hey, we still ate them. The romaine wedge salad was fantastic. It's kind of a re-imagined Midwestern salad with all familiar ingredients, but done really well and composed nicely on the plate. Great start to a meal. Bucatini with crab was fantastic, as others have said. Pepperoni is nice and spicy, and the pepperoni grease that coats the pasta in the tomato sauce is the bomb. It's not like it's a pool of grease, so don't be put off. People need to embrace delicious pepperoni grease more often. The wilted rapini was a little hard to deal with and cut, but eh, minor gripe. In short, go here. Go for cocktail happy hour weekdays 4-5 for $2 off all house cocktails. Yes, they are somewhat expensive, but they are genius and worth it, and you only need one or two anyway. I hope to make it back here for late night food since they serve until 1 am every day.

Bayview has some really great options for dinner and cocktails and Goodkind is one of them. Stopped in for a delicious dinner of a few choice small plates. Sat at the bar, our server was delightful and helped us make 3 balanced options: The soft cheese with olives- the olives were a mix and each one was dreamy, super glad that my dining partner wants nothing to do with them as I was able to devour each one! Cheese was great and I thought the portion was perfect. They also tell you at delivery that they will bring additional bread if necessary (which it was). Lentil and walnut fritters- Yum!! The texture of the fritter was so perfect!! Crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside. Served with a delicious/ fresh and surprising spicy side avocado. Calamari- while I think this was cooked perfectly (calamari was perfect and crunchy) it was a tad salty and a little off balance- just a little over breaded. I had a few drinks during the day, so just drank water. But watched the bartender prepare (with much care) a few beautiful cocktails that really interested me- adding them to the list of must try!

I recently had a chance to try Goodkind for brunch and was very impressed. We had a group of eight and I was expecting this to take FOREVER. I'm happy to say that the timing of everything was perfect. I started with a drink at the bar. I believe what I had was called "Off to the races." I saw bourbon and went for it. What I failed to notice was the raw egg. Since the tattooed bartender had already begun, I sucked it up. The drink was very "egg noggy"; great for winter, but not something that should be served in July. Anyway, for Brunch I ordered the rotissorie pork belly and the bacon risotto. OMG, that pork belly was awesome! It was about a eight inch long piece of very crisp pork. I really prefer porkbelly this way. When it's not cooked enough, it tends to be a bit gelateneous. The risotto was perfect, nice and cheesy with just the right amount of bacon. I could have done without the egg on it, but that's just me. Back to the service, our server was very professional, very knowledgable, and very attentive. She did however miss one thing for the whole table, but in the end it didn't matter. We had plenty to go around. Two of our diners had the poutine which made a great sharing plate. It was hard for me to believe that this used to be the old DiMarini's. I can't believe they managed to get the pizza stink out of this place. The decor is very "cute" and the bathrooms are great. I can see why this place in on everyone's short list. I can't wait to try Goodkind for diner.

I'm a big, big, big fan of brunch here. We'd been for dinner once and while the food was good, I wasn't sold on it being worth the total bill. I was skeptical about trying it again when there are just so many other places I've yet to eat in town, but when Daniela suggested brunch, it seemed like the perfect way to start my birthday week. I was beyond impressed and excited by my brunch food. The pork belly piece must have been a foot long and perfectly cooked to have some char and crisp without being overdone. It was paired with a buttermilk maple cake that brought some awesome sweetness and acid to the pork belly. They worked so well together and I'll be thinking about that plate for a long time to come. I also had an breakfast risotto that was caramelized onions and cheese, I believe and came with a soft egg in the center. It was creamy and rich and I'd never thought of risotto for breakfast, but this convinced me. I'm pretty sure my two plates together were $20 and I'm not sure anywhere in the city can provide a similar brunch taste for that price. It was that good. There's a great beer selection here and some awesome craft cocktails, but $8 for a standard mimosa was a bit steep. So maybe I need to give dinner another chance. Because this was by far the best brunch I've had in this town.

I just recently tried goodkind a week ago and I have to tell you it is as good as people say it is. The food is awesome and the atmosphere is great. The staff is nice and friendly and will to help and explain any questions you might have. One amazing thing that I was able to do was get a flight of beer, it's not on the menu so you have to ask for it. I got 4 beers of my choice from their selection for $12 which is not that bad. I would definitely come here again for lunch and or dinner.

It's 2015. Time for a much needed update. The amazing team at Goodkind have nailed it. I come here a LOT. Once a week typically. Probably more. The menu is frequently changed to reflect seasonal availability. I've had majority of the menu including majority of the specials they have offered. Some huge winners for me are: Fennel pollen dry brined 1/2 chicken Anchovy crusted lamb Green peppercorn prime rib Pork loin Seaweed chips with pepper jelly Crispy Brussels sprout salad (this is a special and if it's on the menu.... GET IT) it's amazing. Caesar salad. Hell yes. Berliner currywurst with tomato chutney, lemon aioli. Yes. Yes yes and YES. The place is filled with the nicest group of people ever. Drinks..... They're amazing. I've had every single one on the menu. And 99% if the specials. I have a few favorites. And you should try them all and find yours. Katie Rose is a genius. Also one of the most sincere, lovely souls I've had the pleasure of knowing. Major major props to both the front and back of house. Paul and Lisa have this on major lockdown. The entire staff here is attentive, caring and truly lives up to its namesake.

I was one of the first two customers to try their new Fight or Flight Prix Fixe, I came close to giving it four stars, and I will willingly go back for a brunch. It may be sacrilege to say during Beer Week, yet their little Beer Bites ratio is too high on the beer side. It's not pints and burgers, so the matching of sizes is important and the food is disappears too soon. Can't lessen the beer sample size, or it wouldn't give you a proper taste, so just raise the price and dole out a bit more food. My fried cod did have oil starting to invade the fish, and since the surface area of the little guy is high, not for me. It even wiped out the peppercorn flavor of the paired beer. Props for the red cabbage puree not being bitter like red cabbage. Bit cool, yet still succulent suckling pig. The coffee stout by Sierra Nevada isn't high on my beer list. It's paired lamb sausage with tomato jam on a cocoa nib pancake is on my all time list! This better make it on the brunch menu from time to time. And I'll still be happy at said brunch having the brioche french toast. Beer Week version had fried shredded Grana and a piece of peach that tasted much better than a normal peach. Friendly service and I think by far the highest natural light to seating ratio in Bay View. Maybe that's why it's back in that corner as it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the town :)

I know you're gonna want to get a cocktail here and that's fine but Goodkind has a Szechuan ginger beer that is out of this world. If you like ginger and a good punch in the throat, GET THIS. They brew it in-house and I wish I could drink this every day. Their food is also fantastic! The menu changes up somewhat for seasonal availability but I think they always have some sort of rotisserie thing going on and veggies cooked in those juices. Super good. I recommend the champagne battered bee mushrooms. I have had it twice and liked it more when they put a lot of the vinegary, slaw type stuff on top because otherwise the fried mushrooms aren't overly flavorful. I also enjoyed the spicy crab pasta that was shared among a group. I haven't been too excited about their desserts but it's okay because usually I was too stuffed with great food already to go for that. The decor is cozy and cute and the service has always been right on. Definitely check this place out.

My eating tour of Milwaukee continues and today's contestant was Goodkind! Great little spot in the bayview area. The ambiance is quaint, a bit country/rustic (is that considered hipster decor now?) with dim candle lighting. I sat alone at the bar and ordered a mocktail. The bartender went to work and brought me a bright freshly mocktail with some different ginger undertones in it. Yum! For dinner I had the split yellow pea soup which was a good solid soup though I wish I tasted more dill in it. The spicy crab bucatini pasta was da bomb! Ya, you read right....I typed da bomb! The crab was shredded on top. The only thing I would have changed was to have the crab in chunks vs. shredded but not a deal breaker for me.

Loved this hidden little Gem. I've been here twice now once for a full dinner and the other just for some craft cocktails, good beer, and a snack at the bar. The place is probably a bit "hipster" which shouldn't surprise given the area. Our servers were always helpful friendly and professional. Food comes out quickly form a small kitchen and everything I tried has been delicious. The decor is a bit of a mish mash, but then again it's still soft and appealing inside. I'll definitely go back.

Goodkind is the kind of place where you need to ask the waiter to come back a couple of times because you're having such a hard time picking from all of the great-sounding options on the menu. We ended up going for about five different small plates, which ended up being a little frustrating because some of the small plates were the tapas-sized portions you might expect - a couple of bites per person - and some of them were entirely too much. In some cases, like the Sugar Bee mushrooms, that's not such a bad thing because mushroom are awesome, but the calamari was decidedly pedestrian, and was portioned on par with what you might find at a Texas Roadhouse. Certainly fresh product, but fried in such a straightforward manner that no amount of charred scallion remoulade could prevent us from tiring of the dish before we finished it. It ended up being the only one we didn't finish, in fact, because when faced with a wonderful cheese plate, braised pork cheeks, or those mushrooms, how can calamari compare? I respect how Goodkind doesn't just randomly pick a handful of Wisconsin beers and call it good. You'll find a good number of Wisconsin beers, but the majority of taps actually belong to out of state breweries. It goes a long way towards constructing a wide-ranging beer list that can cater to any taste or pair with any meal: a Berliner weisse sits next to a chili beer, a gose, and a smoked sour wheat beer. They're all great beers on their own, and it shows that Goodkind truly respects beer. Their monthly beer dinners help drive that point home, too.

Flight delay at MKE so yelped real quick to find something close for a cocktail and grub. Amazing little gem in a cute neighborhood. Liza was a great waitress and super knowledgable about the menu. No complaints about the food or drink -- delish! Great outdoor seating. Try the fried green tomatoes!!

This was my man friend's choice for his birthday dinner. Within 24 hours, he was begging to come back. He loved it more than me. I was underwhelmed (still giving it a 4 though!). I have heard SO MUCH hype about Goodkind and was a little let down. We ordered two small plates and one large plate to split. Our server was very helpful at explaining portion sizes, which would have otherwise been slightly confusing. We left full, but not too full. First dish we had was a sweet potato empanada. It was good, nothing too special, and a VERY small portion for the price. Next up was the calamari. It was delicious, perfectly cooked, and paired with a great dipping sauce. That being said, it wasn't mind blowing. Lastly was the large plate of lamb ragu. The lamb was the highlight of the meal--I have never had lamb that good before. There was a decent balance between pasta and meat, which I appreciated (as opposed to a carb load). The noodles were handmade and wonderful. Upon receiving the plate, I thought it looked pretty small but I was almost unable to finish my portion. All in all, it was good but it won't be my first choice for a nice dinner date.

Seriously one of the best dinners we've had in a long time and pricing is great. We dine out a lot in Las Vegas and this place would hold its own name there easily. Great experience! Had the spicy crab pasta and my wife the coho salmon dish that she absolutely loved. Awesome awesome awesome.

Staff was cool! The bloody Marie's were small and a celery stalk. The food portions were small and not with the price. Over all cool space to hang but the food wasn't worth it.

Atmosphere and service gets five stars. They did a fantastic job redecorating this place. It feels very homey and warm inside. I had multiple servers and all of them were helpful and nice. The food gets three to four stars. I had the sausage dish--I can't remember what it officially is called. It was tasty but was definitely on the light side for the price. My friend had the crab pasta dish and it was way too small and underwhelming for the price. We had cider and it was $2 more per glass than everywhere else I've drunk it. Please lower your prices!

Seriously bringing it with some great vegan options. For a place whose claim to fame is its rotisserie, I have had some really great vegan options here. I had to update my review after my experience tonight because of a few things: 1) the food and drinks were even better than the first time 2) I found out the patio is dog-friendly 3) the chef make seitan to replace the tempeh in one of their veg entrees because they didn't get their tempeh delivery. OK, so really blown away by #3. Seitan can be a very unforgiving vegan meat. Most places get it wrong, and even places that serve it regularly often have problems with a consistent product. This seitan was nigh on perfect -- great texture, well-seasoned, all-around delicious. I just had to give the chef big vegan hugs and much respect from someone who knows that this is a culinary feat. Our service was fabulous (thanks Claire), all of the BF's meaty/nonvegan things were thoroughly enjoyed by him, and whoa, the barrel-aged version of a Singapore sling was goooood. so good. This place is really living up to the hype and producing some some seriously good things. I'll be a regular here for sure. The only downfall is that I spend so much money every time I go because I want to try everything!

Came here to try out their brunch which they introduced earlier this year. We tried three dishes the smoked pork belly with a buttermilk cake, pork cheek doughnut and the bacon risotto. The smoked pork belly was so soft you really don't need to put that much effort in cutting it and it paired nicely with the slightly sweet buttermilk cake. This was probably my favorite out everything we ordered. The pork cheek doughnut was a little disappointing to me. I guess I was expecting more filling but otherwise an ok dish. The risotto was delicious, came with a perfectly poached egg and was beautifully cooked. Other items on the menu that caught my eye as well were the Dungeness crab bread pudding and the beef tartare! Definitely wish they had a sweet option though.

The good: -everything I tasted was something that I had never tasted before -the fried chickpeas were delicious -I like the ambiance The bad: -I ordered the "Coinpurse" as a drink, it had rum which is my favorite, but it tasted like black licorice, which is not a flavor I enjoy -my halibut was over cooked and the red quinoa it came with was very sweet, which isn't to my liking I would return to try a different seasonal menu or brunch, but would not order the drink or entrée again.

The first time I went here I loved it. I got the eggplant (even though I normally hate eggplant it was, if I recall correctly, the only vegetarian entree on the menu) and it was outstanding; delicate flavors that all melded together perfectly. And though it was crazy packed that night the service was spot on. After telling everyone that it was my new favorite restaurant I finally dragged a friend here. I ordered the seitan and had to send it back as it was way too vinegar-y to eat. Fortunately there was another vegetarian item on the menu this time so they brought me the crispelle instead. Though it was better than the first item, it was only marginally so as it was covered in cheese and impossible to taste anything else. Gone were the delicate flavors that harmonized so well on my first visit. And though the restaurant was only half full this time, the service was also far less attentive. Off night? Maybe, but now I'm wondering which night was the off night. I might go back (I love the space) but I am no longer telling anyone it is my new favorite restaurant.

In today's installment of Rachel reviews a thing as is part of her (awesome) job, we're going to talk about Goodkind: their alcohol selection which leaves me starry-eyed, but not before chatting a bit about food and communication and reviews, first. Goodkind's food menu is awesome and inventive and interesting, no doubt. Mixed reviews up until now seem to point to a sort of disconnect between diner expectations of Goodkind and well, GK proper. GK recently overhauled their menu's verbiage to be more "user-friendly" which is a positive for both the restaurant and the customer. Clarity in offering can help even the most adventurous diner make more informed decisions; clear communication by way of explanation keeps expectations in line, too. So if you were one of the folks who didn't quite understand or didn't feel like you "got it" check out their menu overhaul and give 'em another go... I think it clears much of that disconnect up. NOW! To the things that matter: 1. Goodkind is a cozy-ass, Pinterest-inspired art deco food and booze nerd haven that's homey and awesome, homie 2. They're open late and rock their full food menu until the (relative) wee hours, which is really dang civilized 3. It is an awesome place for after dinner cocktails or late night snacks and cocktails: FACT 4. They are now open for brunch also FACT Somewhat recently, I had the pleasure of bellying up to the GKind bar and hanging out for awhile. Long story short, should you find yourself bar hopping in Bay View, don't count Goodkind out - in fact, count it IN or you're missing out. (They switched to old school hip hop around 11pm while we were there which was def fun.) Heart eyes emoji: dat booze list! (Not just the cocktail list - which is fab in its own right - but the actual BOOZE LIST. It's awe-inspiring if you're into that sort of thing. I'm on this bitter orange kick and they've got lots of weird stuff I've never heard of. If GK did a booze school, I would go. [TL; DR] Go. Have a drink. Bite an (amazing) thing. This place is very excellent and very versatile, y'all. Bay View!

First, I have to highlight that Branden was our server and he was absolutely outstanding. He was friendly, made great recommendations, and incredibly attentive. I went with a friend and we shared the oysters, scallops, and the black lentil and walnut fritters. Everything was delicious and each plate had a slight, inventive twist to it. For example, the oysters had small cubes of a sweet horseradish gelee on top of them. This was surprising as it wasn't biting like you would expect of horseradish. It was the perfect compliment to the earthy, sea flavor typical of oysters. The style is small plates. I found that you received an appropriate amount for two people between two small plates and one large. I tried the Szechuan ginger beer, recommended by another Yelp review, in a Moscow mule. Really delicious, not in a traditional copper mug, but I was surprised it didn't make an appearance on the drink menu (or some beverage containing the ginger beer). No matter; I found it to be a great option in either case. Inventive in a charming atmosphere with enough substance to be satisfying. I highly recommend it and look forward to going back.
