I totally forgot to write an update about the catering experience in October 2014! The theme of my son's party was Thomas the Train (as stated in other posts). We wanted to go with the barbeque on the train tracks theme, and decided after looking at other caterers, that Famous Dave's was more cost effective. We had about 20 guests, so we ordered spare ribs, chopped pork, beans and corn muffins. I arrived right on time to the Greenfield location to pick up the grub. Everything was packed, hot and ready to go, all I had to do was pay. Famous Dave's also supplied the plates, buns, packets of sauce, serving and eating utensils and napkins (we didn't need it, but thankful to have for future use). They offered to help me carry everything to the car. As soon as i got back to the party location, we set up the food buffet style on top of warmers. The food was hit! I didn't even get a chance to eat a corn muffin. The transport and use of warmers did not change the quality of the food. We had a little bit of the Famous Dave's left over, but for the most part it was gone. I really love this location. If I have another get together soon, they are at the top of my list for catering.

Going downhill more each time we try it. This place used to be great. Ever since they began to cut corners a few years ago (1/3rd ear of corn with dinners was too costly and they changed it to a pay-for-it side), the quality and quantity has tapered off. Service is still okay, not stellar though. No paper towels on the table, sauces now are on a serve yourself shelf on the opposite wall from our table, the bar ran out of the beer I ordered from the preprinted drink menu, a long wait for iced tea that was my second choice beverage, the iced tea tasted old, and the lemon wedges were mostly submerged and had to be fished out of the glass of iced tea. I had a sandwich of brisket and smoked sausage and it was served lukewarm. My husband had the chopped pork dinner. He had no major complaints. I was finishing my last bite of my sandwich before the server came to inquire about our meals. I can't wait for some other barbecue restaurant to fill the void that will be left when this place finally closes due to apathy towards their customers.

We always get pretty much the same items when we do Famous Dave's, about once every two weeks or more. The big slab, two sides of fries, green beans, and sweet tea. Hands down the best ribs ever! We used to simply get the default Famous Daves' BBQ rub, but they added the dry rub a while ago which is equally tasty. The only downside to this joint is the inconsistency in the sides. Sometimes they would let us switch out a corn muffin for a corn on the cob, other times they would say they never allowed it. Sometimes our fries would come in a large basket with generous helpings, and sometimes it would be a sad little pile in the corner of the ribs tray. All in all, a solid experience for those craving some ribs. I do wish they had a VIP program for regular customers. I would be happily chalking up those pork points like a pig rolling in mud.

I live in Texas now and have done a good deal of traveling. There are other parts of the country that are better known for barbecue and ribs. If you're looking for that type of food in Milwaukee, though, this Famous Dave's is a great place to visit. The service is superb and the food is tasty. The variety of barbecue sauces is welcomed, too. Also, the portions are large. When I go there, I usually split one of the combo plates with someone. The servers always accommodate those requests.

So me and my buddy wanted to sit at the bar but, there wasn't any seats available. I asked a waitress if we could sit in a booth nearby. She said ya that's fine. Then out of nowhere the chubby female manager made us move to another booth. It made no difference. It was 7 on a Saturday night. She said that section was blocked off when clearly there was no signage to notify us of this. Then 5 minutes later some guy by himself sat down in the exact booth we were sitting in! Nullifying her statement earlier. It was a complete bs. I felt discriminated against and will never go back.

The portions aren't very large but food here is decent. Aside from the food, the place kind of sucks. I was in a group of 4 and every menu was sticky with a huge spot of dried barbecue sauce. Not only that but the table didn't seem like it had been cleaned all day and every container was riddled with half dried sauce too. I get it - it's is a barbecue place so there is a lot of sauces. I still don't want to have sticky stuff from all of the previous customers on everything I will be eating from. The paper towels even had saucy finger marks all over them. It was really gross where I was eating so I can't imagine what the back is like. Now over to the staff. I have been her on 2 occasions in the past 5 weeks or so. The fist time, the place was empty with really slow service. This time it was a bit busier but it still took forever to get my food. Then when it did come out, there was 5 minute wait on bacon that turned into getting it as I was walking out the door. The food I had was good but I wouldn't come back due to poor cleanliness and slow service. If you really want some famous daves, go out to the brookfield/Waukesha location.

Was our 2nd time at Dave's. We love the burnt ends. For a chain restraunt we were surprised how good to was. 1st time service was a little inattentive, this time had a great server (Ahman). He didn't stop by to little or to much. He even dropped off new water when we were getting low with out having to ask for it. Feast for one great value. Would rate it a 3 1/2.

Surprisingly very good service for a Friday night and the food was excellent. We choose Famous Daves about once a year. Have been going to Racine for better service, so really glad the 27th street spot has seemed to improve! We both had 2- Meats. Mine was Southside Tips and Brisket - both seem to be tweaks to the previous recipes(?) I tried the Jalepeno Mac and Cheese - very good, also had corn in it, and broccoli - which I was surprised to see. The hubs had brisket and BBQ Chicken - his white quarter was dry, he prefers dark meat but did not think to ask ahead of time. The brisket had a pastrami flavor which I love and I am not into the sauces - only received like a tablspoon on the brisket. The tips are now dry rubbed - another plus! I used to order them "no sauce". They are larger and meater and leaner than our previous experiences. The sauce I like is a mustard and vinegar base, and the Georgia Mustard sauce at Dave's is very good. When we go back, I will definitely get the brisket sandwich for lunch and the tip appetizer for a dinner meal (fries, no muffin or other sides, but 1 pound of tips). Brought home a lot of tips with the corn muffin as leftovers.

Great for a franchise. Try the salmon spread.

Anyplace with a selection of squeezey bottles of condiments (especially BBQ sauce) is fine by me. Also, you can get lunch for less than $7. It's probably not very good for you.

Not the world best ribs as advertised. Some overcooked some under cooked on same rack. Trying the ga chopped pork it's ok but not a fan of sauce on my bbq. Like vinegar based. Not a bad place but wrong flavor profiles in the meat.

Went on a Tuesday for the two person feast an the service was fast and friendly, barely waited 10 minutes for our food. Everything was full of flavor as it always is.

For a Wisconsin chain (obviously a condescending remark), this is a nice BBQ place. The ambience is comfortable (booths and tables galore in rooms walled with old signage). The prices at lunch are decent (ribs and chicen, beans and cornbread for $8.49). The service is friendly and speedy. Full bar and lots of beers. Interesting rack of sauce choices on the table. For a Texan, however, where the beans are bland , way too much BBQ sauce on the beans here. And for a Texan where the meat is usally served with sauce on the side, it might be better to order it that way here and then use the sauces on the table. When it comes with sauce, there is way too much sauce on the ribs. Texans know their meat and like to taste it. Otherwise, more power to the Wisconsin chain. If Texas Road House can put outposts in Wisconsin, how about a Famous Daves in Austin? Could be risky, but worth a try! One plus is that the meats here are smoked, Texas style, unlike the ribs you get a many a Wisconsin restaurant (e.g., Alioto's) that are baked in the oven.

Nice clean atmosphere definitely worth the drive from IL being about an hour drive. Looking forward to come back here as much as possible! Awesome Mac & Cheese Flavourful Seasoned Fries! Favorite Wings So Far

Bringing BBQ to the suburban masses since 1994. OK, lemme start by saying that I do honestly like Famous Dave's. BBQ has been on the upswing in the 414 for several years now, and Dave's has been out in front of most of them. FD is more family friendly than most of the others. Although the dining experience may be a bit more "generic" than some of the other more authentic BBQ joints in town, you would be better to drag Grandma and the kids here then to Speedy Queen or Smoke Shack. There's ample parking, bar spaces, seating, and tons of crazy "up-north" crap on the wall. Oddly enough, at the original restaurant on Round Lake in Hayward, the decor there is significantly less "up-northy" than at this location. A bit ironic in my opinion. I suppose if you want to feel like your up north there, you can just look out the windows, or at least you will be able to once they rebuild. The original restaurant burnt down on 11/3/14. I've been to this location numerous times since they opened about ten years ago and if there is one word I can use to sum up my experiences here it would be: consistency, and what I mean by that is the lack thereof. FD tends to hire wait staff at "the beginning of their careers" and while that usually means fresh-faced corporate-trained go-getters, it also means lack of experience. Don't get me wrong, some have been great, all have been at least OK, but often times I've experienced incorrect orders or long waits for things to come out of the kitchen, kinda like your usual experience at other TGI McFunster type places. On a recent visit, my two meat lunch combo consisted of the best beef brisket I've ever had at a FD paired with the dryest BBQ Chicken I've ever had. Again, another consistency issue. Fortunately, a drowning in the "rich and sassy" sauce brought it back around to edible.I will also admit that my favorite thing on the menu, the chicken and wild rice soup, was also not up to it usual quality. This saddened me greatly since I hold this as one of my favorite soups anywhere! On the whole, Famous Dave's is usually pretty solid in a 3.5 star way. You know you won't be disappointed if your expectations are too great. Just remember Toto, you're not in Kansas (City) anymore!

Man, I really hate to do this. I stopped in today to cash in a free sandwich coupon for lunch, and everything was for the most part up to par with last weeks review. The food was awesome, the service was excellent. So you ask how this restaurant drops a star in a week? I had some unwelcome visitors join me for lunch. Fruit flies. I know this is a First World problem, and normally one or two wouldn't bother me, but this was like 5 to 10. I spent most of my meal doing an Ace Ventura dance trying to shoo them off my food. It was so bad, I felt like that guy in the Sesame Street- Grover as a Waiter sketch. "No waiter, there's a fly IN my soup". They should probably nip this in the butt quick, although I didn't have this problem last week when i sat at a table instead of the booth I took today. Anyways, it's annoying!

I ordered carry out from here last night and OMG the beef brisket was the juiciest and most flavorful I have ever had!! The sides were great too. The broccoli was steamed to perfection and the macaroni and cheese was excellent. I wish I had ordered extra everything!! The other members of my party were equally pleased with their orders. The service was superb as well. The young lady who took our orders patiently explained the menu and offered us sweet tea while we waited. Overall a great experience. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

I've always thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Famous Dave's. We went on 2/26 because of a 2 for 1 birthday deal. Love their combo deals. Except its hard to decide on the sides - they are all so yummy. Corn on the cob, drunken apples, garlic red potatoes, really great potato salad......Not the best ribs I've had but pretty darn good. Our waitress was warm, friendly, patient and helpful. I appreciate their very casual atmosphere.

We used the catering services to supply the meal to a party of 80. They delivered on time, set up the line, put our backup items in the fridge and oven of our rented building for us and even left a few towels for us to use as oven mitts. The food was universally praised and the portions were generous. We had lots of takers for the leftovers. Really nice job, overall.

This is an all around, solid dining experience. The restaurant is impeccably clean, throughout. I love the extensive barbecue menu. I'm a sucker for grilled whole chickens and they have two varieties. You get to choose a meat, or meats and some sides. The cole slaw is crunchy and a little sweet and pairs really well with a bold chunk of brisketm ribs or sausage links. You can also choose garlic mashed potatoes, fries, spiced apples, beans, corn etc. Many of the dinners come with a tasty little cornbread muffin. There are 6 different DD's brand sauces and I love the rich and sassy with a couple of drops of Georgia mustard. For the price, you get a nice amount of food and every side and meat that I have tried is simply cooked perfectly. They have lunch specials, but if you have a group, the family meals are a great way to sample a little bit of everything. All of the meats and sides come on a garbage can lid. They have an email club and they, very occasionally have coupons. I would say this place is moderately priced, but the quality of the food is top notch. They have added a very nice burger selection to the menu and they have boneless wings. I'm not crazy about the desserts, but then, who has room for dessert? When you drive by, you can smell the smokers. YUM!

"Wow," What has happened to Famous Dave's? This was actually our fourth visit since my spectacular five-star 9/6/13 review but I kinda expected something like this. Today gone was Ben, our best male server so far this year and in his place new menus and another dollar raise in most prices. I ordered the Brisket sandwich (now $10.49) with Famous Fries as the side. I guess "piled high" in the menu's description has never been determined. My sandwich was the smallest of the three times I have ordered it and now the most expensive. Worse yet there apparently is no quality control with the Brisket. For the first time I had three slices of almost complete fat! No thank you! My wife ordered the Pulled Chicken (now $9.99) with very spicy baked beans. No problem here except for the baked beans living up to their name. With tax and tip bringing the tab without drinks to a quarter of a hundred dollars, there is no value here. We will not be returning to Famous Dave's anytime soon. I think we'll go try Ashley's Que and let you know how it compares.

I was in Milwaukee for a week and ate dinner here twice. The food both times was incredible. The Feast for One is just that - a feast. There were 4 of us who ordered it one night and no one finished everything. You get chicken, ribs, pork, corn slaw, cornbread - and the slaw is fantastic. The 1st night we ate in the main restaurant and the service was great. The second night we were seated in the bar area and the service was horrible, it took 10 minutes for any one to come to the table. After we 1st wait the service was better the rest of the eveining - this is what caused them to loose 1 star.

BBQ is good but portions are small for a BBQ place. Of course its a corporation serving you the food. Most private places charge a hefty price but you get a good portion of food. The servers are the SLOWEST in the world. After you get your food its a while before they check on your table again.

Is this the BEST BBQ I've ever had? No. Is it the best in town? Perhaps. For a local chain, the food is pretty darn good. We've been multiple times, and each time we've had a solid, good experience. Everything I've ordered here has been quality, from the ribs to the chicken. Again, the best? Not really, but very tasty and reasonable. Also, kudos to the wait-staff. In the years we've been coming here, we've always been treated well by attentive and friendly staff.

YUM!

Anyplace with a selection of squeezey bottles of condiments (especially BBQ sauce) is fine by me. Also, you can get lunch for less than $7. It's probably not very good for you.

Went on a Tuesday for the two person feast an the service was fast and friendly, barely waited 10 minutes for our food. Everything was full of flavor as it always is.

Not the world best ribs as advertised. Some overcooked some under cooked on same rack. Trying the ga chopped pork it's ok but not a fan of sauce on my bbq. Like vinegar based. Not a bad place but wrong flavor profiles in the meat.
