It's really hard to eat Chinese delivery when it's delivered to a hotel without a fork. Also, the delivery driver had the shakes and jittered.. Took him 5 minutes to make my change.. The food was not amazing.

Since moving to Milwaukee I've been looking for my neighborhood Chinese joint. No not the place you go when you have family in town, but the place you go when you have that splitting headache the next morning from a rough night to recover your grease counts. Walking by China Wok I thought this may be the place; stuck in a dingy strip mall next to whole foods it had great promise. I dropped by for lunch, inside it has your typical dingy Chinese restaurant decor down to the old lady eating who takes your order. I went with my standby test General Tso's lunch special. She yelled the order in Chinese and about 5 minutes later wala bagged up and ready to go. I opened the egg roll nice and crispy not greasy and soggy which was a good sign. It tasted nice and had good flavor. Next came the General Tso's. I opened up the container and immediately I knew I was going to be disappointed. The Chicken was a strange orangish color not the Carmel brown it should be. A positive was that they gave you huge chunks of chicken but the sauce tasted like a hybrid of sweet and sour not the brown sauce I was expecting. Finishing the meal on a positive was the fried rice. It was not your typical brown soy sauce filled brown rice but actual fried rice with bits of black fry from the wok. It was not as greasy as most and had good flavor I was very pleasantly surprised. Although I don't think I've found my corner Chinese joint yet at 6 bucks it was worth a try. I will not order the General Tso's again but I think I'll give them another chance sometime in the future and see if their other entree options are better. I would give them a 2.5 stars but the fried rice had me give them the 3 instead of the 2 on the yelp meter. I foresee an update in the future to see if they tier one way or another.

I had a Groupon so figured we would try this place out since my daughter was in the mood for Chinese. I noticed the Groupon said one per table so I figured it was a sit-down place. I found out quickly that we would want to take this to go, and take the chance that our food would be cold by the time we got home since we live in Bay View, and this is on the East Side. They have a faded menu with prices up on the wall...with a sign next to it that says prices on the wall are from 2005 and prices have changed...sooo, why not replace the menu on the wall with updated prices?! So while the menu may be from 2005, the decor looks like it's from the 1990's (although they haven't been there since then), and it looks like it hasn't been cleaned since then either. We waited for a while at the order window, although it clearly wasn't busy in there since we were the only ones there. She finally came up when the phone started ringing, proceeded to answer the phone, she started to take an order on the phone, must have decided they were taking too long so she put them on hold to take my order. I showed her my Groupon and started ordering one of the dinner specials. She starts making some grunting noises, grabs the menu I'm ordering from, opens it, and points to the middle of the menu. I gathered from all that I was not allowed to order the combo specials with my Groupon which was fine. As I open my mouth to continue ordering something different, she picks up the phone, listens for a moment, then starts yelling "CANCEL ORDER, CANCEL ORDER?!" and hung up on the person. I think she took it upon herself to cancel the person's order because they were taking too long. I quickly placed my order with the fear that she would kick us out! It was actually pretty comical. We ordered the Szechuan Beef which seemed tomato based, which I have never seen in a Chinese restaurant. The beef was tough, and it had a lot of huge chunks of onions in it. The Chicken Fried Rice was good, pretty typical, not bad, and the Crab Rangoons (which were really just cream cheese wontons) were actually pretty good although missing a main ingredient (the crab). Not sure if I would go back although I would grab the Rangoons for a snack if I was in the area.

I dislike being negative but I truly can't find anything positive and If it was possible we would give it a negative star. It was so absolutely disgusting that it did not even look like food. We had a order about 65 dollars worth and nobody would touch it for fear of major gastrointestinal problems..we threw it all out. The fact that you have poor reviews and poor health inspections but fail to change is disturbing.

Just gross. Ordered chicken lo mein. Too salty and slimy with no real flavor. Butterfly shrimp wasn't butterflied and super greasy.

If you must only read one line, read this: DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. I ordered General Tso chicken and paid $1.50 to upgrade to Lo Mein from the standard white rice. I also ordered a side of fried chicken dumplings. This was a lot of food; it filled two whole styrofoam boxes, and my order after tax was $11.75. All that food for such a low price? Not a good sign, but I rolled with it. The food took only 25 minutes from when I completed the order to when the delivery driver called me... yet another bad sign, but I was a little wine-drunk and very hungry, so I rolled with it. I started with the potstickers. The filling was some brain-like mixture of slimy ground chicken and cabbage, and it was CRIMINALLY undercooked. Like, small children and the elderly should not eat these salmonella-pockets. After cooking them at 400 degrees for 12 minutes (not kidding), they were edible but maintained their unpleasant color and texture. I felt the fool for having ordered them. Moving on to the chicken, I was hoping for the swing vote, and was rewarded with a vote entirely on the side of the dumplings. The chicken was waaaaay overbreaded--seriously, it was like eating a fritter with a surprise chicken center--and the meat itself, while surprisingly decent in flavor, was quite dry and tough. The rest of the Tso experience was no better. In what appears to be a nod to the American origin of the dish, China Wok drowns the chicken in a barbecue-y sauce with no palatable or visible spice. There were two mushy florets of broccoli, some out-of-whack cabbage, three half-cobs of baby corn, and a heavy dose of carrots in the mess, too. No added value. The Lo Mein noodles were overcooked and somewhat mushy, but seasoned to my satisfaction. Nothing to scoff at but overall, nothing to note. Please, don't take the risk. I don't think I was screwed over or anything...I pre-tipped the delivery driver $5 because the order was so cheap. It has to be the standard the restaurant sets for itself, and believe me, it is a very low standard.

A complete waste of money, food was cold & obviously not fresh, bottled soda was warm.. Probably some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I will never order from this place again & would suggest you don't either.

Not good. Over cooked crab Rangoon, overlooked general tso chicken and bad flavor. Tasted like duck sauce with sirracha and veggies in it were obviously not fresh. Threw all away.

The lady working was a very cute little Chinese woman, but that was all the place really had going for it. I ordered cashew chicken, it had no sauce to it and literally had about 5 cashews sitting on top. The vegetables consisted mostly of cubed broccoli stems, it took a minute to figure out what they were at first. I was really bummed, especially for their prices. I think they need to work on their menu, or at least lower the prices to more accurately fit their quality. Business seemed nonexistent, so maybe that'll prompt them.

Today was my first time trying this place. I usually order from Chopstix or Lucky Liu's when I am craving greasy, mediocre-quality, and relatively cheap Chinese food. I went in to place an order. The place looks like a dingy old restaurant, what I expect from a cheap Chinese place. I waited for a few minutes and no one came out, and I couldn't help but notice that there wasn't anybody working in the kitchen, which I could see directly into. I thought this particularly strange as it was 1pm, which should be the middle of a lunch rush. I didn't even smell any food that had been recently cooked, again very strange. I thought then that I had better just leave and stick with my guns and go to Chopstix or Lucky Liu's, but it was cold and snowy and I didn't feel like driving around anymore. I looked around for a bell to ring and saw a mini gong, which I hit to get someone's attention. An old Chinese woman sauntered out. I said hello, she said nothing in reply. Stay the course at this point, I figured. I ordered the sesame chicken lunch special. She immediately replied "$6.10". I asked her two questions about the menu, she couldn't understand me. I spoke slowly and clearly, but it was clear that English was not getting through. I gave up on questions. I paid and she began walking away and I said "Egg roll and white rice". She said "Ok". She never asked if I wanted fried or white rice or egg roll or crab rangoon, so I made sure to catch her attention myself and be very clear and direct. At this point, I was still very nervous because there was nobody in the kitchen. The old woman proceeded back to the kitchen, and I saw a microwave and got nervous that she was going to just microwave some old chicken for me and call it a day. I wasn't far off. She did not wash her hands after helping me at the register nor did she put on gloves. She barehanded some chicken pieces out of a bag that had been sitting on the counter and tossed them into a deep-fryer. I was a little relieved that I was at least not going to get microwave chicken, and I just told myself (in regards to the lack of handwashing and chicken just sitting out), "I'm sure you've eaten plenty of Chinese food that has had far nastier things done to it". Not exactly excited at this point, but just hoping the food will taste like the cheap, greasy, anticipated food I expected. Then I saw her microwave my egg roll. I'm feeling really disheartened now. Then she went to the sink and put some water in a bowl, which I can only assume was old rice she was going to serve me. She microwaved that, then caught my eye. I felt awkward for observing too much of her unsanitary tactics and looked away. I went and sat down, and told myself to stop worrying about it. She called for me when it was done. I went home and expected the rice and egg roll to be of low, pre-microwaved quality (because they were). I was still somehow excited for the sesame chicken, because, hell with sanitary preparation, I love sesame chicken. It's a standard in Chinese food. It's impossible to screw up..right? Wrong. I opened up my food package and immediately was struck by the color of the 'sesame sauce'. It was a dark orange, not the brownish-red it typically is. Oh well. I dig in. First bite of chicken is awful, terrible, seriously bad. It tastes like a hybrid of old sweet and sour sauce, orange food coloring, and a nasty third component. I immediately feel worried I really won't be able to finish the chicken because the sauce is so disgusting. I'm worried because I always finish my food. All of it. And this time, I can tell it isn't going to be possible. I wiped off as much sauce as I could on the styrofoam container it came in, but it's no use. What's more, the chicken inside is dry, off-colored dark meat. At this point, a truly worrisome thought crosses my mind, "This isn't chicken, Jim. It's..it's..something gross. Oh my god, could this be rat meat? Dog meat?". I quickly shoo those horrible thoughts out of mind, eat as much as I could stomach, which isn't much, and throw the rest away. (Note: I have never in my life - I'm 27 - thrown away my Chinese leftovers). Now, I felt nauseous...and duped. "Never again", I tell myself. At this point, I decide I need to see if anyone else has had a terrible experience with them and written about it online. And of course, they have. The first link I notice is one from a TMJ4 story documenting major health code violations at this place. If you've really read this all, I'd be surprised, but hopefully you got a chuckle out of it and will never make the mistake I did of going to China Wok on the East side of Milwaukee (Farwell Ave). Lastly, I want to reiterate: I have LOW standards for cheap, Chinese food. The food from this place was atrocious, absolutely disgusting! This is my first time 'yelping', that's how bad this place was.

I normally do not write reviews but I thought that this needed to be noted. There food is hosed with MSG or some other chemical I have allergic reactions to. On top of their poorly tasting food I have been itching constantly for a couple of hours and would have not ate here if I had known. I do not recommend this place nothing about their food was fresh.

China Wok is little Chinese restaurant tucked away in a strip mall on the East side. I love trying these types of places, and had a Groupon for it, but I set my expectations a little too high... The place is quite small, you would definitely want to take your order to go. The service is fast, the food is okay. I tried the shrimp lo mien and the the chicken moo shu, both which were pretty good but I have had much better from similar establishments and I probably won't order take out from here again.

GROSS. Burnt fried rice, with bits of over dried chicken within. When we asked if we could get our money back they said that they diddn't have a return policy. NEVER AGAIN.

Seriously the best chinese food on the eastside!! It's hidden away in a little strip mall and it doesn't look the best inside, but the food is awesome! They have really good fried rice and egg drop soup and their portions are always big.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions.
