Four of us tried pizza and two tried pasta. Prices are high, maybe the downtown location? Style is more European with blends of ingredients and spots of cheese, creataively presented, as opposed to the American trend toward heavy cheese coverings. General agreement was pizza was good, but not in Milwaukee's top five as some have claimed. Service was good, beers and wines were also high in comparison to many neighborhood bars/pubs in Milwuakee.

After reading the reviews I decided to try out this restaurant, and I am so glad I did. This is one of the best Italian places I've been to. Alessandro was the server and he had a great knowledge of wine and the menu; all served with a great sense of humor. I took him up on his suggestion of Penne Con Salsiccia Picante...spicy, creamy marinara goodness, it was fantastic! Don't leave without having the Tiramasu, it too was fantastic. If I'm back in Milwaukee this place is first on my list!

Great food, excellent service. Will definitely return! I love the Rat Pack music and the atmosphere.

Conveniently located downtown near most hotels and entertainment sites. Was staying at the Hyatt across the street maybe 3 years ago when I first discovered this treasure. This visit had the veal chop done parmagian style. No problem with the special requests! I've had the lasagna before and it is incredible. The pizza is probable the biggest surprise, great crust, fresh ingredients! Owner is the chef and his brother tends bar at night. Couldn't have better service but I always eat at the bar as I usually travel alone! I never go to Milwaukee without eating here at least once!

Had the pork chops in a chardonnay cream sauce followed by canoli. A nice chianti to go with it. Excellent food and paired well with the wine. Service was a bit slow but I attribute that to my particular server as the others seemed quite on top of their game. The host was particularly helpful and friendly. Nice ambiance with little accents that gave it an Old World feel. I'd go back as long as I have plenty of time to spend.

Great food but if the restaurant is busy it is very, very loud. If going on a game day, make sure you arrive after the game folks clear out.

Right across the street from the downtown Hyatt. Walked over for dessert. SO disappointed! Tried the Tiramisu. It was bland and tasteless. The bartender even recommended it to me. I've ordered Tiramisu in many, many restaurants and this is the worst I've ever had. Very glad I didn't waste my money on a meal here.

On the way to Rumpus Room from the Hilton in 17 degree weather in late March, I decided that lunch would be more successfully achieved if I could still feel my face and fingers. Calderone Club seemed like a safe haven given the above average reviews. But sadly my pizza would not have garnered more than three stars. Decor and service was wonderful and clean. The server was charming and attentive and the soundtrack of old school crooners delivering some nice b-sides and rarer covers was greatly appreciated as was my Peroni on tap. I just wished the pizza matched the level of class. I ordered a personal pie with anchovies and artichokes cause I like to play the part of Italian when I'm on business. But this pizza could have been produced by the suburban Greek/Italian delivery joints in Virginia. Canned, salty anchovies and canned artichoke leaves are acceptable when it's served out of a box but I expected something a little elevated when delivered on china on white tablecloth. There was too much cheese and no crust to speak of as the toppings went all the way to the edge. Again - fine for a hole in the wall with counter service but I really expected a Neapolitan pie with some scorched crust, white filets of fresh anchovy and some fresh artichokes (or at the very least, some generous wedges). All in all, a decent meal at a decent price and I got to keep all my digits.

What a great find. Had a chicken special that was out of this world, their sauce is great, and the Bread was unbelievable. Reminded me of back home NJ/NY Style.

I wanted to find a good Italian restaurant for a pre-race pasta dinner. The front desk person at the hotel recommended this place and it was a great choice. I just had a Caesar salad and their house speciality spaghetti and meatballs. It's a pretty simple menu item, but it was excellent. The service was also very friendly and quick.

We knew we were hungry for Italian and this restaurant was the perfect choice. The service was great for a Thursday evening and our glasses were never empty. The mozzarella- risotto appetizer was delicious and our pasta dinners were cooked to perfection. Being a soda snob I have to add that their fountain diet coke was the best I've had!

We love this place, everything we have eaten here has been great! This is a great place for a date too. We have had pizza, spicy rigatoni, ravioli, chicken parm, veal... It's all been wonderful. It's our favorite place downtown.

This used to be one of my favorite places in downtown Milwaukee, but all too often, including tonight, the pasta is overcooked. Limp linguine in my Linguine alla Pescatore. And, at $22, not a good value when it's prepared poorly. Waitress neglected to bring bread until I requested it, and then it was delivered seconds before the entree.

Warning to groups: DO NOT patronize this restaurant unless one person is picking up the tab. A group of 6 of us were staying across the street and headed here for a later dinner. At almost 9pm on a Thursday night, it was surprisingly busy. And the noise level was deafening. I was a little reluctant to eat since I wanted to talk to my colleagues. After waiting to be greeted, we were seated. There was no silverware or waters on the table. The waitress came over and we asked if we could have separate checks. Because we all had to submit expenses for reimbursement, we needed separate and itemized receipts. She said that they didn't split checks but she'd ask her manager. We waited, and waited, and waited. I saw her waiting on others around the dining room, and finally she saw me staring at her and came over to us to tell us that they wouldn't split our checks. In these days of computers, how is it a problem to split our checks? Any place that doesn't split checks is just lazy and doesn't care. They lost our business. We got up and walked out. I would not recommend.

I am so glad that this is the restaurant I work across the street from. In my opinion they have the best thin crust pizza in Milwaukee, and even though it is a little more expensive than other places, it is worth the extra money. Whenever I'm feeling lazy I just pick one up to take home. Besides their pizza, the rest of their food is delicious. Their chicken marsala is one of the best marsala dishes I have ever had. My favorite dish is the Penne con Salsiccia Piccante, it's one of those dishes where I am full 1/3 of the way through, but I eat the whole thing cause it is just that good. And make sure you start off with the fried eggplant, so yummy. The restaurant is a cute, quaint little place, and the service has always been friendly and professional. A great choice for some delicious Italian food.

I flipping love the pasta here! While not a huge lover of all things Italian, once in a while I like to order some good ole ravioli or gnocchi. Stopped into Calderone Club for a quick bite before a movie on Fri night and had a great meal yet again. We had: gnocchi: sauce was amazing! And I don't even like red sauce really! penne: hearty thick red sauce with sausages My favorite has to be the pescatore hands down. Try it - you'll thank me :) Beware if there is an event at the Bradley Center, it might be packed, so call ahead. Also, parking over here is a drag. The food makes up for it!

I had the gluten free pasta with Salmon, oil and garlic. Loved it. very good and tasty. I staff was nice. Its located right down town. Easy to get to from my hotel. I would suggest you get it a try if in MKE

We ordered the Lasagna con Mozzarella e Pomodoro and the Tortellini al Calderone, both of which were exceptionally delicious, but the appetizer was my favorite: Ravioli al Pesto. Quick, attentive, friendly service and tasty Italian comfort food. We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I ventured out to the Calderone Club after the mention of its name got an "Ohmygod you HAVE to try that place!" reaction out of one of our friends. We spent about $100 on an appetizer, two entrees, a bottle of wine, and a dessert that we shared. We went about three months ago and honestly, for the life of me, I can't remember what we ordered. There was nothing offensive, but nothing stood out either. It was simple good Italian food, but nothing memorable. Especially not for the prices listed on the menu. We left feeling a little cheated, like we could have had the exact same experience at an Italian chain, for half the price.

Stopped in here for a quick dinner after a long walk around Milwaukee. Quite an extensive menu with many pasta made in house. I tried the Caesar salad and spaghetti and meatballs. Salad was average. But the meatballs knocked my socks off! Soft and tender with great flavor. Staff was nice and attentive.

Going here was hell. The waitress argued with me about my order, and challenged if I was really allergic to a food. The food was oily and tasteless. But the real kicker is that my tables bill was merged with the table next to us, and the waitress refused to split the bills, these were TWO SEPARATE TABLES. I called to inform the manager about the awful situation, and the employee who answered the phone yelled at me. This is not worth anyone's time to be treated poorly and paying to eat tasteless food.

Perfectly fine classic Italian standard. The menu is chock full of traditional Americanized favorites. The place feels Old World. Everything about it feels amiliar. So if you're looking for a perfectly satisfactory red sauce experience, this is your place. I've had two meals here and both were enjoyable.

  • Katie J.

Wandered in for dinner and ended up being one of the most amazing Italian places I've ever been to! The chicken Marsala was the best I've ever had by far! They modified my boyfriends meal as well with no issues as he has food allergies and on a busy night got our order out quickly for us as we were in a rush. Very accommodating. Great service... which is a must when it comes to a great overall experience for me being in the industry. I will definitely come back if I get the chance!

  • Jeff T.

The only reason this place got two stars is because the spaghetti was good. Tried to get refills on tea so I went up to the bar. The bartender charges for refills on tea. "WHAT?!?!? You charge for TEA REFILLS?" The tea was stale and was left over from the day before. Bartender didn't offer apologies for the poor quality of the tea. The service can be stressful, but, very sweet. THIS PLACE IS OVER PRICED. A plate of spaghetti is $15.00? And, that's WITHOUT a salad!! I won't be back. They nickel and dime you at every turn.

Very simply: awesome / authentic / best / everything excellent / far exceeds all other Italian restaurants in Milwaukee. Do not miss this one. You will not be disappointed whatsoever.

Every time I have been to Milwaukee I have gone here for dinner. The food is really good and you walk in knowing everything is going to be good. You can choose anything from some calamari appetizers to salads (the Raspberry Walnut chicken salad is awesome) to pasta, pizza, and entrees. We have gone through about half the menu now and no one has had a bad meal. We have several partial to the lasagna another couple partial to the Chicken Masala and I love the Raspberry chicken salad. We have eyes the pizza a few times and I think on the next visit we may have to try a pie. This place gets packed and it does get nosey inside so be warned. To me it makes me feel like home since when we have family dinners we are loud and cant hear everyone and only the loudest gets heard which is typical in an Italian family.

We stopped in at 10:15pm on a Saturday night. There were 4 in our party. We ordered the antipasto platter, which was delicious, the chicken fettuccine Alfredo, which was also really good and the chicken chowder soup, which I was told was good - it's the only thing I didn't try. Our server was nice, a little on the slower side, but I think because it was so late. We will go back the next time we're in Milwaukee.

Arrived @ 5pm for a dinner reservation with 9 in our group. The restaurant was basically empty except for about 3 other small tables of people. We thought that it was great to be able to get quick service and a prompt meal - wrong Server was pleasant although scarce. She ask for our drinks order then reutned about 10 mins later with 3 drinks and then asked for our orders. Though one in our group is allergic to garlic, she had asked if she could get a marinara sauce made without garlic. The server said that the marinara sauce wasn't made fresh but about 6 hours ago We ordered and didin't see her again until our salads came ( this took over 20mins to have the 6 salads served, a few at a time) by the time the last salad came out, there was not enough time to finish the salads since our mains were delivered. Each meal had to be broadcasted - she really didn't seem to know who ordered what. They were finally delivered but since we didn't have enough room on the table, those of us still with salads had to hold the plates in our hands and eat them on our laps We also asked for the table bread, that was mentioned early, we had a piece of bread, the size of a sub, sliced into about 6 or 7 small pieces for the 9 of us. When asked for more, the server said that they had run out (Now about 6pm) and she had to ask them to "make more". The food was good. I ordered the pork chop which came with a steak knife - I know why, now, since it was SO tough and overcooked. No server to comment on it, until she asked us if we wanted any desserts. We declined The bill arrived, she returned 3x to see if we had completed it. I tried to get her attention for a take-out box. No servers came back except to make a quick query about the bill. Eventually, I took the plate with me to the front desk and asked for a box, which they did do and asked why I hadn't asked the server to do it. *Sigh* Thank goodness they put a mandatory 18% tip on the bill - since they definitely did not give the service to be able to earn it. I think the food was OK, nothing outstanding. Maybe when making food in bulk makes this place not too worried about return customage Food OK, service missing

First the good: Wait staff was good. It was a quiet restaurant And the bad: nickeled and dimed: a charge for oil for the bread?! Really!? It wasn't that good. The pizza was ok, but frankly after reading the comments I expected way better. I had three toppings, one of which was basil. Being charged per ingredient, I expected more than a few slivers of basil. The tea was $3.50...for a bag! You could buy a box with that, and seriously, no lemon was included. There was a $6.75 charge for split checks as well. Ice cream was over $6 bucks as well. Ridiculous.

I really enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere at Club Calderone. It is right downtown, next to the Hyatt. We had some out of town co-workers staying at the Hyatt, so this was convenient. We had a new waitress in training. She was better than the experienced help at most restaurants.

I've been here numerous times. I always take the time to visit this place when visiting Milwaukee on business trips. I've already been here twice on my current three day trip. Great food and service. The Cappellini a la Caprese is my fave. They have a great beer selection from Leinenkugel's to Peroni. Be sure to save room for their signature Tiramisu. You'll think you went to heaven.

This place sounded good from most of the reviews on here and since my husband and I are visiting from Chicago we wanted to try out some different local places. When we arrived the place was busy, but they sat us at a table right away. Our waitress was friendly and attentive as she could be on a Friday night. I chose a dish that had an option of substituting chicken with shrimp and while it was $4.95 to do so, it sounded really good. When our food came there were 4 pieces of shrimp on top of my dish. I thought maybe there were some hiding beneath the pasta, but to my dismay there were none. I paid $16.95 for a pasta dish and an extra charge for shrimp...which ended up costing over a $1 per piece. I was disappointed about that, but the pasta itself was tasty. But the worst part came at the end of the meal. Our waitress charged someone else's bill on our card and their tab was over $100. She voided it but said it would not be back in our account for 3 days or so. She was super apologetic, but I am not very happy. I'm not usually a complainer because I understand that stuff happens, but when you charge someone else's bill to my card, I consider that a huge f*ck up. I don't think I would ever go back here.

Excellent Italian in Milwaukee. Good service, great food. I had the lasagna and it was up there with the best I have ever had. Also the Caprese Salad. The fresh mozz was excellent, not a fan of the olive oil they used, but I'm not much of an expert so it could have been the best in the world. You're not likely to be disappointed here.

3-4 star food, 2 star experience. My wife and I showed up at 5:30 on a Friday expecting to encounter a pretty empty place at that time. It was pretty busy. We didn't have a reservation, but they seated us anyway. Right as we were sitting down, the hostess told us there was a reservation on the table in an hour but we should be ok since the food comes out fast. Although it was busy, there were several open tables the entire time we were there as well as numerous outdoor tables that were open (I don't think they were even using these despite the perfect conditions for outdoor dining). This subtle "hurry up and get out of here" message made me feel hurried and cast a shadow over our entire meal. The dining room needs to have 1 or 2 fewer tables. We were parked in a particularly uncomfortable location. I felt cramped the entire time. A waiter walking by knocked a menu off our table that was overhanging the edge by an inch because the passage is just that tight. Despite their initial claim about the speed, we found the service quite slow. We weren't in a hurry, but this made us feel more pressure since we felt we had a deadline they imposed on us. The ambiance was poor, but this might have been a fluke. There was a large group of people who must have been a part of some sort of German singing thing. The family in lederhosen was a clue. The group was loud, but what really annoyed us was the multiple times they all erupted into German drinking songs (apparently as loudly as they could). That's great at a bar, but not when I'm trying to enjoy a nice meal with my wife. You're not the only ones in the place...show a little class. The food was pretty good overall. Mozzarella sticks were the same as you could buy in the frozen food section (not worth $9). My wife's tortellini was just ok. My rigatoni bolognese was the standout. I really liked the sauce. The portion size was adequate, but not huge. I never finish all my pasta in a restaurant (I'm a delicate flower). I had no problems finishing here. Given the quality and portions, it was a bit overpriced compared to other restaurants downtown.

As the grandson of a Sicilian immigrant, I'm always skeptical about trying "authentic" Italian restaurants. This was the first time that my wife has ever said that the spaghetti sauce was better than my grandmother's. That's saying quite a bit. The lasagna is incredible as well. This is a must-visit for natives and visitors alike.

I worked here in college, quite a few years ago. I cannot tell you how many times since then that I have been traveling throughout the world and when I tell them that I am from Milwaukee, they ask me if I have eaten here. In addition, I cannot tell you how many ball players and stars eat here when they are in town. Just ask the owners Gino and Larry, they can tell you some good stories. The food here has always been exceptional. I think their pastas are better than their pizza though. When I worked there, the three most popular dishes were penne salcitia, tortellini and the chicken marsala. All totally divine! Whenever I come back in town this is one of my first stops!

This year, Christmas was pretty special. I got engaged on Christmas Day and celebrated my parents' 33rd wedding anniversary. In honor of both celebrations, we went out for a nice Italian dinner. We enjoyed dinner at the downtown location because my brother and sister in law later joined us for drinks after a Bucks game. While my dad parked the car, I persued the menu. It's almost overwhelming because everything looks so good and worthy of trying. While still waffling on what to order, we got some appetizers and drinks. For appetizers, we had calamari and mozzarella sticks. The calamari was perfectly fried and crispy. The mozzarella sticks were also delicious and gooey while not being oozy. When we finally ordered our entrees, I choose the Capellini alla Caprese which is angel hair pasta with tomatoes, Prosciutto di Parma, and Italian soffritto. It's completed with with a white chardonnay cream sauce and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The white creamy sauce mixes well with the angel hair pasta while being the perfect complement to the salty Prosciuitto. My dad and I both enjoyed this entree. My fiance tried the Penne con Salsiccia Piccante which is penne pasta with a hot Italian sausage in a marinara sauce. The marinara sauce also has the strong spicy sausage as well. He was aware of how hot it was when he saw that it outlined and bolded and still tried it. He absolutely enjoyed the super spicy sausage and pasta. He described the heat as a gradual building. It was hot enough to make him sweat. My mom had the chicken fettucine alfredo which she throughly enjoyed. Throughout the meal, our server was attentive and not pushy. He gave us plenty of time to decide entrees as well as letting us linger to hang out with my brother and sister in law. Overall, it was a great celebration meal.

Honestly I had a really excellent Americanized Italian meal here. The food was great! Caesar salad was zingy like I like and chicken marsala was scrumptious. I ate every last bite. Didn't like to pay $2 for a small side of marinara.

I'm a fan! Always a great experience at the Calderone Club downtown! My favorite Chicken Marsala in the city. The Calderone Club is a mainstay in Italian dining in the great city of Milwaukee. Excellent pizza, pasta, wine selection...Gino and his staff put their customers first, and truly do offer a first class dining experience, each and every time I dine alone, or with friends or customers. I would highly recommend to anyone the next time they are downtown for work, a game, or a show, etc. Nice outdoor cafe seating in the summer as well!

I had the cheese Tortellini with shrimp and grilled chicken added. As I told my server, I was going to report the chef to the Milwaukee Police, because I was sure it was sprinkled with crack cocaine because it had me addicted! It was wonderful! The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was filled with flavor. The shrimp...I could have eaten an entire plate of just the shrimp. I opted to try the vanilla bean ice cream for dessert and that was the only black mark on the evening. It tasted like a cheap vanilla ice cream that you would find at any grocery store. Pretty bad. But everything else about the Calderone Club was superb. Our server was adorable and attentive, the food and drinks great, loud and lively venue, and the cutie pie chef kept making the rounds chatting with guests. I live one block from the place and will need to visit more often.

Although I've lived in Milwaukee for five years, I had never heard of this place until this past fall. My boyfriend was visiting me for the very first time and suggested we go out for Italian for lunch. I was completely flustered and my mind went blank as to what Italian places we have in Milwaukee. I decided to do a quick drive down 3rd street and this place popped out at us. All I can say is it was DELCIOUS. Like, I was sitting there practically moaning as I ate my food delicious. I can't for the life of me remember the name of what I got. All I remember is a creamy sauce with tomatoes, garlic, and basil (pretty vague, I know). I do, however, remember being embarrassed because I ate it in about half the time it took my boyfriend to eat his.

This joint has a nice old-school kinda feel, and the food is just like yo' mama used to make (if she was Italian and actually had time to cook). I went on a Tuesday night and the place was packed! The noise level is definitely high, but truth be told, I'd rather eat dinner in a place where people are obviously enjoying themselves. The gents behind the bar are at turns friendly and raucously joking. All the waitstaff were incredibly nice. And unlike several other restaurants I've been too, they actually seemed a little... *gasp*... sincere!!! How refreshing! I tried the meat ravioli and was not disappointed. The marinara sauce is appropriately tangy, and was generously topped off with a hearty helping of parmesan cheese and fresh basil. I sopped all of it up with the warm bread provided. Mmmmmm.... SO good! I wish I would have had room to try the tiramisu. Maybe the next time I'm in town.

At first glance, this seems like your basic neighborhood Italian restaurant. But I have to say that the food was outstanding! I highly recommend the capellini alla caprese, and the rest of my family really enjoyed their meals too. They don't have an "official" kids' menu, but they have a small personal pizza on the menu and they will also make a small dish of spaghetti with butter or marinara sauce.

When I travel to Milwaukee, this is always the first restaurant I think of visiting. Not only because this is right across the street from the Hyatt and within walking distance of the Hilton, but because this quaint corner italian restaurant is by far one of the best tasting in all of Milwaukee. The atmosphere is very elegant and perfect for a business casual crowd or even romantic dinner - although I will caution that it's a bit crowded at times and the noise can become quite disruptive during peak hours. I've had numerous entrees in their selection; from their chicken masala, to rigatoni, to the antipasto - but at the end of the day my absolute favorite dish of all time is their Spicy Penne (with Italian sausage bits). I don't know what magic the chef dribbles over this dish but every time I've had it (and quite possibly a dozen times), the formula of this dish just works. It's a perfectly proportioned platter with finely cooked penne and an unimaginably delicious sauce coated over juicy sausage. In fact as I'm writing this review, I wish I were back there now dining at this very moment. If you're in the mood for some staple Italian dishes, this is the place to be.

I am pretty picky when it comes to Italian food, having spent two years in Rome, and I have to say this place exceeded my expectations. The food is flavorful, the portions plentiful, and the atmosphere, nice. They brought us a candle halfway through our dinner to add to the romantic effect, and the waitstaff was very friendly. I had the chicken marsala, which was delicious, albeit a bit on the heavy side. I had plenty to take home with me for the next day's lunch. The bread they brought us before our meal was warm and seemed freshly baked, and my Cesar salad was very tasty as well. My husband ordered the linguni frutti di mare (mixed seafood pasta), which was also excellent: not too fishy, but a great overall seafood experience. The prices for the "secondi" are a bit high, but everything else is reasonably priced for the quality and portions they serve. We will definitely come back here.

I honestly have never been inside aside from picking up pizza to go, but Calderone Club is the best pizza in Milwaukee! If that's what you're on a search for, don't pass this one by!

The chic parma was watery and the Bolognese was made with beef tips. Uninspired overpriced tourist food. Chianti was 13 a glass - really?

I am a fan of the now defunct original on Bartlett from my youth. But this establishment still has the charm that Mama Rosa brought to the old place. A great place to sit and enjoy some wonderfully flavorful food, a glass of wine, and do it in a relaxed atmosphere. The service is great, and the location is within a few blocks of Grand Avenue Mall and many other shops and attractions.

This place is a real gem! It's not pretentious at all, the chef/owner Gino? Is clearly very well trained and instead of cooking all the new modern food movement odd dishes, he prepares classic Italian American Homestyle cooking that is Outstanding! The sauce we had with every dish was fantastic! The Chicken Parmagiana is done just right. The Marsala is fantastic, quite rich as there's cream in there not just butter which in my opinion, more butter and cream, the tastier. Everything is well seasoned. Now for the pizza, I judge all pizza by a simple principal, how good can they make a pizzeria margherita? Well, I'm this case, it's damn good. The crust is very traditional thin crust Neapolitan pie, the bright red San marzano tomatoe sauce with fior d'latte and fresh basil is really tasty, drizzled with a little evoo, you've got the best Neapolitan pie in town. the service is Great, everyone is very friendly. this is a great place for family as well as everyday and special occasions. I will definitely be a regular.

Good service and food. The chicken Marsala is excellent. Good bread. Good drink selection. Accessible and nice environment. I'm hard to please and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Not cheap. The desserts are WAY overpriced. I paid almost $9 for a small slice of cheesecake. Other than that, I was very happy.

Always loved the pizza here, even 10 years later for date night. The waitress was attentive, but not overbearing. Glad we made reservations as it was packed before the Bucks game.

Very well done italian. Lovely staff and a lively boisterous dining room and everyone is having a great time. The chef is crafting some pretty fantastic italian food here. I'd recommend anything with sausage, but that may be me. Portions are huge. Wine list: Great. Bar: Great (although there are TVs in the bar area: good/bad depending on your opinion of TVs). Go here with good friends and stuff your stomach with well made Italian.

Went off of the previous reviews and not sure it was rated accordingly. We wanted to order the toasted ravioli on the menu as an appetizer, spinach and artichoke, but we're told it's actually four cheese ravioli. Lemon picatta was pretty tasteless and the spaghetti with meatballs tasted a bit odd. The saving grace for the restaurant was the chicken Marsala. Previous reviews were correct about the noise level, so be aware if you're looking for a quiet meal.

I'm usually not one to write bad reviews, but I was rather unhappy with my dining experience. We went to dinner for our friend's 25th birthday. First, we ordered drinks. My sister ordered the Old Third St cocktail, and it was too strong. We told our waitress, and she exchanged it easily with another drink. Then we ordered food. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo, and it was rather delicious! Having just returned from Italy three days before, it definitely wasn't Italian food. But good Italian-American food nonetheless. The event that caused the whole experience to be unpleasant was the bill. The waitress gave us one bill. Obviously we're not going to pay for a $300 bill and owe each other. No worries, we'll just split the bill by giving separate cards, right? Apparently not: the waitress literally took 20 minutes to try and do it (we were a party of 4, shouldn't be too difficult). Then she came back and said the computer wouldn't let her and that we could only split it evenly. I have never, ever had that happen at a restaurant where you can't separately pay for the bill in some way. To top it off, the drink we asked to exchange was charged. And the birthday tiramisu we secretly asked for the birthday girl was charged. I understand these things aren't free/can be charged, but it would have been courteous not to do so. PS Three out of the four of us felt sick the night of/next day

The pizza crust was really light but crispy. The sauce tasted very fresh but seemed to be missing some flavoring. We got the Margherita pizza and there was only a few pieces of basil on it. I was expecting much more from a Margherita style lizza. And the basil that was on it seemed to be over cooked a bit, losing some of the amazing basil flavor. The cheese was very fresh however. Overall it was an ok experience. But the pizza didn't seem to taste memorable.

Great little Italian place in a good Milwaukee location. Was staying at the Hyatt next door and just wanted a convenient, good Italian dinner. This was a great find. The service was great-we had this adorable waitress who was so attentive and nice. The wine list was decent and they had a handful of wines by the glass. My friend and I split the margherita pizza and the tortellini-both were great. The pizzas come in three sizes and we chose the "junior" which was four pieces. I would choose a size up next time as it seemed more like a personal pizza that we got. The only semi-confusing part about this restaurant is that it is a nice Italian restaurant with white tablecloths but also has a sports bar feel in the main bar area. Not bad, just confusing.

We accidentally stumbled in here for dinner, and couldn't be happier. Both of our dishes, gnocchi and lasagna, were delicious! (Meaning: Not covered in heavy cheese and oil and not mushy dead noodles). Very well done Italian food. Good wine too. The staff was friendly and our waitress was great. Definitely a nice dinner.

Wow! If I lived in Milwaukee, this would quickly become one of my local faves. Unfortunately, I was just visiting on business with a co-worker and so cannot join the Calderone Club as a regular. I will say we totally lucked out on timing because we didn't have a reservation, and only waited a few minutes for a table. The waitress said it is usually packed with a long wait even during the week. She was friendly, and service was pretty quick. My colleague ordered spaghetti and meatballs, which he said was outstanding. I ordered the special pizza and immediately fell in love. I also appreciated that they had some local beers on their menu. I was so full from stuffing my face with pizza, I regretted it as soon as I saw some dessert come out of the kitchen. It looked phenom. Next time I'm in town!

Came here with the team while we were in Milwaukee. It's a great restaurant for groups and serves a lot of different beers, wines and liquors. I ordered the chicken parmesan with a baked potato and the minestrone soup. I know I probably broke some unspoken rule ordering a baked potato with my chicken, but they offered it, so I took it. We ordered the fried eggplant, mozarella sticks, and the brushetta for appetizers. They were all very good. I'm super picky with brushetta, so the fact that I liked it was a good sign for the rest of the meal. The restaurant was super loud, mostly due to the massive table sitting next to us so it can get super loud. The waiter was super nice, and kept a good eye on us. He was prompt in service and kept my water full. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in MIlwaukee for a few nights.

Tasty pizza that's way overpriced topped with poor service. A trusted friend ranked this pizza in the Milwaukee's top ten, and after dining there I can see why. It starts with thin and crispy crust that resembles a fantastic cracker. There's a snap in every bite. The pizza sauce sets this pie above many others. The vibrant fresh tomato flavors shine through a light seasoned (basil, garlic, and a hint of salt) sauce. Mozzarella cheese also has a lighter, fresher flavor than most. I had a margherita pizza and the fresh basil was plentiful and blended well into the cheese, creating a great combination of flavors. But that's where the positive experience ends. I dined with three friends on a Saturday night that was bustling, but there were tables open inside and out. We choose and outdoor table and were told it would be a few minutes to set up. We were promptly seated with menus. No water was provided as the hostess scurried back into the restaurant. There was a group of three at a table further from the door and next to us. A waitress brought their apps and walked right past our table on the way there and the way back and never acknowledged us. We sat another 5 minutes with no staff recognizing our table. The waitress for our neighboring table then brought their entrees. She clearly saw that we had no water or drinks and even made eye contact but said nothing and went back into the restaurant. After another five minutes of nothing I suggested leaving. One of my friends really wanted to try the place so she went inside to talk to the hostess. At this point we had sat for 20 minutes with no waters or server contact, other than the obvious oblivion from the unfriendly server in our section. A few minutes longer and another waitress we had not seen before finally came to take our order. From that point on service was good but I don't feel anyone should have to wait that long, especially when a staff person knew we needed service. And to add insult to injury, the price here are not only high, they are deceptive. A junior size cheese pizza is 8.95, with additional toppings at 1.25 each. A junior size margherita pizza has no price on the menu, but the toppings listed are parmigiano cheese, fresh basil and olive oil If you count the olive oil as a topping which is a very, very big stretch) then you would add a whopping 3.75 to the cheese pizza for a total of 12.70. But somehow, in Calderone math, the price of a junior margherita is 13.95. Which works out to four toppings at 1.25 each. I'm no math major but it just doesn't add up. The lesson here is that no matter how good your food is, service and perception do factor into the decisions of diners. And with so many great options in Milwaukee I will certainly decide to go somewhere else next time.

The food was good, but the service was so bad. Seated right away on a Sunday night and our order was taken right away but that's the last time we really saw our server, until we were given the bill. No drink refills. The server took my credit card didn't come back for at least ten minutes. The restaurant was not busy.

We stopped here on our way to the Milwaukee Public Museum after discovering the King & I is closed for Saturday lunches. Decent service in a crowded, almost sports bar atmosphere. Our pizza was quite tasty, but nothing about the meal was exceptional. Extras and entrees seemed quite pricey for average food.

Located near the Riverwalk in Milwaukee, this Italian Restaurant is a quiet place that surprisingly has a great set up inside. I went here with a large group (11 of us) and we were had no trouble finding a table right away around 1pm during the week. I was not feeling like eating any appetizers, although the group ordered some calamari and mentioned that they enjoyed it themselves. I ordered the sausage penne pasta and I was satisfied with this. In reality, the sausage and the sauce were amazing, I even stole some bread from others so that I could finish all the sauce on the plate. I was content but this was a rather average Italian restaurant.

I went here for dinner late-ish into the evening on a Tuesday night January '14. I was immediately charmed. Bright, cheery interior with obviously happy customers. We were seated at a table for two by the door which was perfectly cozy. What stood out most to me was the swift service. Our waitress would appear at our table instantly as if by magic. The calamari was crisp and tasty, and my Linguini Alla Pescatora was wonderful. I'm looking forward to going back and spending more time there.

Treat yourself to an amazing meal. The food is so good I come from Tennessee to eat here. Actually I bring my artist here to do shows but a trip to Milwaukee with out seeing Gino and enjoying some awesome Italian food would be a waist. I love the bruschetta and the meatballs rock. So good.

I really enjoyed my meal here. Nice service and pretty swift. Ordered some fried eggplant to start which was delicious and great to share among 3-5 people. Also ordered the seafood linguine which was amazing! (Linguine alla Pescatora ) Get that!! Great flavors and great tasting pasta. Yum. I was highly satisfied with my whole meal.

We came here with a group of 10 on a busy night and they took care of us right away. Amazing pizza. The large is the size of a serving tray and fed five of us. All the other dishes were really good and authentic. Get some garlic bread with your meal. Great service all around and great to meet Gino the owner.

Stopped in for a late night carry out. Had to walk a quarter mile to get back to my room in 10 degree weather so needless to say I expected a middle of the road experience. I was pleasantly surprised at the take out being hot and well packaged for travel. I had chicken parm which was phenomenal. Tried the garlic bread too and that was also up to snuff. Great Italian food right in the center of Milwaukee.

"Spaghetti and meatballs" is what I heard my stomach say, possibly because I'm quickly ticking off each of the major ethnic food groups in downtown. So we headed to the Italian joint on the corner. Warm welcome from the pretty hostess and we were shown to a table. Decor on the walls included Peroni (on draft!) and other posters with a general feeling of Italy. More pretty waitresses walked by while I picked from the menu. I chose the "Rigatoni Bolognaise" which was a good but not large portion. I think the intention here is to have two main courses - the pasta and a meat or fish course. So perhaps I was left a little hungry at the end. Maybe I should have ordered some garlic bread? Cheesecake was nice and creamy without a ton of fruit compote on top. Good stuff.

Hands down the most authentic Italian that I've had in quite some time. Great food. Great patrons. Great family. I eat here every night while staying in Milwaukee. TRY: + Chicken Marsala + My off the menu dish: spaghetti (SMALL portion) with grilled chicken. + Sinatra special: two fingers of Jack Daniels, ice, and a splash of water. The gentleman's special.

This place was pretty good. My girlfriend and I went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't that busy.. First, service was not great. there is no host area, so we were standing in the doorway for about 2 minutes without anyone asking how many. Finally, the bus boy came and seated us. It took 10 minutes for us to get, we had to ask for more water, and more bread. Second, the food was good, but a little pricey for the proportion size. We ordered fried eggplant for appetizer, a seafood pasta, and a shrimp pasta. They were really good, but the proportion doesn't match the price tag.

The food was quite good. The reason for 1 star is that after our entree dishes were cleared we asked what was on the dessert menu. We were told by our waitress that there was a 1 hour time limit on tables and that we probably would not have time for dessert. However they would be glad to package something to go. Really?!?! We had reservations, so we were not "walk-ins". And we certainly were not "dawdling." I have never ever had this type of experience at a restaurant. Tables around us with larger parties did not appear to be under this restriction. Needless to say I will not be back!

I wanted to like this place, but I won't return. Fresh ingredients, but uninspired. Nothing to complain about, but we've had much better. They took our bread plates and then served us the bread. It was like that all night. Pizza was okay. So was the Alfredo. And the Pescadora. But just okay.

Came here on a whim, as my husband and I were starving and this is the first place we saw. 630 on a Saturday night and we got the last available table. Service wise, A+, as everyone was great from the moment we walked into the restaurant. Food wise, I had the capalinni with chicken. Outstanding. My husband got the special and enjoyed it as well. I would come back to eat here without hesitation.

I'm back...this is my third visit here and once again very pleased. Had the Penne con Salsiccia Piccante, which was outstanding. My co-worker had the rigatoni which wasn't as good as my Penne but he sure had no complaints. We started off with the fried calamari, which was just ok. The calamari was slightly overlooked and on the salty side. We ended our meal with the Cannoli Siciliano which was a very tasty and nicely presented desert. Overall, still a favorite of mine when I visit Milwaukee.

Meh. Better than your avg chain Italian but not by a lot. The one highlight is the ravioli with pesto for an app. Rest of meal was only avg. Service was good and waitress was very pleasant and had a good sense of humor. If your in a hotel downtown it's worth venturing a bit further out as this is only... Meh.

Was in Milwaukee for a quick visit and stayed downtown and of course used Yelp to find a place to eat on a Saturday evening (after 800p). What a great restaurant - excellent service and good food selection and decent prices. I ordered a create my own spaghetti (its always an indication if a restaurant works with you when you order something that isn't exactly on the menu!). Highly recommended if you are in downtown Milwaukee.

This lonely star is really an act of charity..this so called "mom and pop's Italian restaurant"is really a trap for visitors who have nowhere else to go if they come to an event, are staying at the Hyatt and do not want a steak or a burger. The food is atrocious - the breaded mozzarella appetizer is nothing but frozen cheese sticks and even come with a plastic cup to dip the tasteless marinara. Both our pasta dishes were overcooked, soggy and swimming in sauce - tasted like commercial pasta from a low end chain establishment. The service was casual and the waitress seem uninformed although she was somehow attentive and pleasant. The garlic bread was not home made and dripping rancid butter. $ 26 for chicken linguini, $ 19 for penne with sausage...not even home made pasta...I don't think so. This place needs a new chef, a new menu, a new manager and new attitude!

Thank you for serving me one of the best thin crust pizzas I have had. Service was great as they didn't bother me too much but I also never had to look for the waiter. Great atmosphere. True cappuccino the way it's supposed to be as well. If you anywhere near the downtown you need to go here.

I came here with a colleague for dinner on a weekday night. Like most downtown restaurants, it was not very busy, but that was ok as we were greeted warmly at the door by the host and promptly seated. Their menu is typical Italian fare - pizzas, pastas, etc. and the prices are very reasonable. I had the pasta Bolognese. It was pretty good. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce only had beef in it, which isn't really a Bolognese. That said, the sauce was still very good. However, there was an odd taste to the whole dish. I think it was the mozzarella cheese they sprinkled over the top. It just detracted from the dish. My friend got the lasagna and liked it a lot. He cleaned the plate. The service was good. We were well taken care of by our server.

Having studied in Italy, I absolutely LOVE an authentic Italian meal and can be very picky. Calderone Club met my expectations on my last visit. Here's the scoop: Service: 5 stars- Even though we were there on an extremely busy night (Valentine's Day) our table was ready within 5 minutes of our arrival and the exact time of our reservation. While we waited for our table we were greeted by nice bartenders and were able to pay quickly when our table was ready. The hostesses were nice, and our server was also very nice & attentive. At the end of the meal she gave us a free dessert, saying one of her other tables tipped her extra and told her to pass on a good deed! Food: 5 stars. Started with the melanzane fritte (fried eggplant) just because I always get it when it's on the menu. I liked that it was more eggplant than breading, because some places really skimp on the eggplant. The dip was also very good, and it was a good serving for 2 or maybe 3 people if you are just ordering pasta and not one of the entrees (that come with salads). For dinner I ordered the gnocchi, another item I always have to get if it's on the menu. It was absolutely delicious, and a big portion. I took about 1/3 of it home. We also got bread with our pasta... which was warm and a good way to sop up some of the sauce :) For dessert we had tiramisu, which was really good, and a standard-sized piece. Drinks: 4 stars. Had two glasses of Italian vino: one was a pinot noir and the other was something the waitress recommended. Both were good, the first was $7 and the second was $10. I would stick with the pinot noir for the price. They also had some good Rieslings on the menu but my sauce was red so I just couldn't. My date had 2 glasses of the Kabinett Riesling and enjoyed it. I will be coming back for an exact replica of this meal!

I discovered, via Yelp mobile, that the Calderone Club was a short walk from my hotel. It was a pretty cold & windy evening so I was grateful that this highly rated restaurant was close by. I was a single so I sat at the bar. Service was friendly, professional, and prompt. While sitting there I discovered that they also do takeout as well. Speaking to a couple of local diners they said that the Italian food was spot on. I had the minestrone soup and their version of an Italian salad. Both very good and the salad was big enough to serve as dinner. The pasta dishes looked amazing as well. I'm traveling to Milwaukee again shortly and will be sure to stop by here again.

Visiting Milwaukee for business, I decided to check Yelp for an Italian restaurant suggestion. What a score that I chose Calderone Club. Didn't hurt that it was up the street from the Courtyard Marriott. I was by myself so I sat at the bar. Italian beer on draft is always a good sign. I was served by a tag-team of the owner and a bartender. I ordered the Penne con Salsiccia Picante with a ceaser salad. I was told it was a house specialty and I can see why, it was delicious. A touch of spice to the sausage and a nice cream tomato sauce to marry it to the penne. The salad was properly dressed and appeared fresh. I finished off the meal with some good coffee and conversation with the owner about Italy. It was a great first night in Milwaukee and if I was ever back I would certainly visit this restaurant to try more items on the menu.

So let me paint you the picture, it was cold and raining out i just spent $90 on dinner that was ehh, my date and I were waiting up front for our taxi when the owner/chef came up front saw us and cruelly asked what we were doing, I told him we were just waiting for our taxi. He yelled back "NO YOU ARENT GO ACROSS THE STREET TO THE HOTEL AND WAIVE ONE DOWN" That was 6 years ago and my last time there

Is it possible to give a restaurant less than one star? What an awful experience. I visited the calderone after reading some decent reviews.. what a terrible decision. Our waitress was incredibly rude (would it hurt to smile and at least act nice?) We decided to order food and I was mortified by the amount of food I received. I had to ask three times for bread and received it midway through dinner. When asking the third and final time our waitress seemed perplexed that we wanted bread. The final kicker was the fact that you have to pay for refills on pop. What a joke. The calderone does not have the caliber to do so. I am in Milwaukee numerous times during the year for work purposes and will not be returning.

Had a drink at the bar with the very friendly bar men while waiting for my take out pizza. I ordered a junior size works pizza and it was good. Maybe I would have given 4 stars if it was not that expensive; $16 for a small take out pizza is a bit much.

To quote another reviewer on here, "It was simple good Italian food, but nothing memorable. Especially not for the prices listed on the menu. We left feeling a little cheated, like we could have had the exact same experience at an Italian chain, for half the price." My sentiments exactly. The food was delicious and tasted very homemade, but it wasn't really memorable, and it was more than a little bit overpriced.I also expected the portion size to be larger. It was a bit conservative. I don't think you'd get food this good at most chains, but that said, it wasn't that superior to a chain. I have definitely tasted better and have paid less. I'm not really for or against this place, except if you're talking price, then I'd say, no, this is the opposite of value for your money. Staff was friendly, although when my food arrived, without even asking me, the server took my bread plate and my knife away from the table and walked away. So I took a knife from another table.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
