I just didn't have a great experience at our cake tasting here. Keep in mind, we didn't end up ordering a cake, but I feel that the tasting appointment didn't go as well as I would have hoped. While I believe Karen has great talent and vision (the cakes, buttercreams, etc were delicious) she was lacking in the way of communication with us. She charges $25 for the tasting and if you book with her, that doesn't go towards your cake. We were trying to build ourselves a reasonably priced cake, but she gave us no insight to how we could get a larger cake for our money (even though I asked multiple times). No, adding a faux layer of styrofoam won't be more economical than making it out of real cake. Really?) Had she told us she charges hundreds of dollars more for fondant, we would've steered away from that. I'm not sure what the ingredients are in fondant, but I think they're pretty basic. OK I'll give you one on labor, but over $500 extra for fondant is crazy. So, then she has you create a cake and she emails you the pricing a few days later. Why can't we get it right there? Other vendors can tell you right up front. So, as anticipated, the emailed quote was way over budget, so we asked what she COULD do for our budget and she basically said "nothing." So instead of helping us create a reasonably priced cake that would fit our budget, she didn't listen and didn't explain things to us nicely (or in a way 2 humps who don't know a thing about cake would understand). She said "what?" instead of "I'm sorry I don't understand your question." While I was trying to get an idea of cost, she said "Well, everything is going to cost money" in a condescending way. Honestly, I get the whole artistry behind the cake making, but a business owner needs to know how to close a deal, and I'm pretty sure it's not by pricing yourself out of the game.

Not sure why I haven't written about this place sooner... maybe because I hate giving away my secret weapon / super favorite places?! I have to say this is some of the best cake ever. Moist, not too sweet cake in a variety of flavors with a light buttercream frosting in many flavors to choose from. Favorite frostings include maple and white chocolate but it's all good! Cake flavors are unique from lavender to the basics. Cakes must be pre-ordered, but it's worth the wait. Go to her website and get on the email list and she'll send you specials a few times a year for some of her holiday cakes you can order.

The cake Karen (Cake Lady) created for my wedding shower was literally the perfect cake. I almost cried when I saw it. (I may have cried.) We had a Sheriff themed party (it's an inside joke- you kind of had to be there) and Cake Lady perfectly captured the silliness of our wedding shower weekend with the beauty of celebrating getting married. The two layer cake was adorned with the prettiest "flower crown" I've seen on a cake. The girls at the shop handmade these tiny, vivid, perfectly sculpted little blooms. My only regret is that my wedding is in Arizona and I couldn't hire the Cake Lady for our big day. Thank you for being so good at what you do. Oh? I forgot to mention the cookies. The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies. Try them.

cake was just not gorgeous on the outside but it was delicious I had a chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream filling and a chocolate butter cream with fresh strawberries it was a great hit.Yummers! Service was great 5 stars! Very nice Cake Lady :) Loved my Esparza cake ;)

My husband and I asked Karen to make cupcakes for our wedding reception. We used the cupcakes as a feature in our centerpieces. Each guest had the choice of several different flavors. Our guests enjoyed the fact that they had so many different options. One of the things that impressed me most about the cupcakes, other than their lovely/varied designs, was the fact that they did not dry out for days after the wedding. Many cupcakes only have a shelf life of a few hours before they become dry, but not these. In addition to that, her bakery was very clean and tidy, and her staff was friendly. Finally, Karen was a pleasure to work with on a personal level. She mailed two free tickets to a bridal expo event at the Phister for my mother and I. In addition to that, she was able to work with us from overseas to make sure that everything ran smoothly before we arrived back in the States. I would recommend Karen to anyone organizing their own reception. She was a pleasure to work with.

I haven't ordered from Cake Lady, but I have had her cake at Anodyne Coffee just down the street. I believe this is the only place you can buy just a slice of the cake. The German chocolate cake is phenomenal! Moist cake with the BEST, rich buttercream frosting. I will definitely be ordering from the Cake Lady in the future!

My daughter brought a caramel cake to a dinner party last weekend that was made by Karen. It was the most delicious, moist, tasty cake I have ever eaten. There were four layers and lots of butter cream frosting in-between. It was also gorgeous. Absolutely wonderful.

Still the best cupcakes MKE has to offer. Since the wedding, I've co-hosted a bridal shower and a graduation dinner party. Both times, we ordered cupcakes for dessert. Both times, people raved about the cupcakes. For the most recent order, I literally called Karen 4 business days before I needed said cupcakes (called Friday, then Memorial Day weekend, needed cupcakes for Thursday. Me, "Hello... it's wedding season and every weekend is booked beyond belief, but I didn't plan ahead and need (yes, NEED) Cake Lady cupcakes." Karen, "Of course you NEED them. Conveniently, I make them. Consider it done. See you on Thursday at 3." And, she even made an extra one for my hubby since I roped him into doing the pick up. Awww, shucks! That Karen, she takes good care of me...

The cookies that I have tried from Cake lady were amazing but that is more than I can say for Karens's attitude! I wanted to order cookies from her for a special occasion and she was less than helpful in giving me some creative ideas .... Seeing as she was the "expert" I thought she could help but instead was condescending and quite rude . I decided to overlook it several weeks later because the cookies were good and left a message for her with no return phone call ! Never placed an order and don't plan on it !

Working with Karen to design our cake was one of our favorite parts of the wedding planning process. We had visited a few other bakeries before The Cake Lady and were starting to get worried that we wouldn't find something that fit. Our first meeting was just what we were looking for - a true consultation. Karen had delicious samples prepared, listened to our ideas, and was able to deliver exactly the cake we wanted. Our friends and family still, to this day, remember our wedding cake - how beautiful it was and how delicious it tasted.

Before our wedding, my wife and I decided that we were going to use as many businesses and locations in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee as possible. I'm happy to say the best wedding cake I've ever had was at my own wedding. Our cake was a four tier cake, and it was very reasonably priced, but more importantly, delicious. Karen met with us for over an hour with samples of different types of cakes, fillings and frostings and explained them to us. She asked us questions, drew sketches, looked at photos with us to help us get an idea of exactly what we wanted. We returned a month later after designing our invitations so we could show her exactly what we had in mind. And she fulfilled that goal! The cake was beautiful. She uses high quality ingredients. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

I picked up husband's cake earlier today. This is by far the best cake I've ever had. I bought the vanilla buttercream with strawberry filling...OMG the buttercream was rich in flavor but still light and yummy! I'll be sure to order all of my cakes from this bakery! Thanks again Karen!

I ordered the cake for a birthday my boyfriend and I were sharing. We could not have been more pleased. Having never tried the product, we ordered blind based on other Yelp reviews and the pictures we saw The Cake Lady's Facebook page. We could not have been more pleased with it. The cake was flavorful and moist, each layer was perfectly spaced, and the icing was perfectly balanced. We were sad to see the end of it, but look forward to ordering another cake from The Cake Lady. I'm thinking we'll do this soon in order to try the other amazing flavor combinations she has to offer. We ordered the cake via email and it was exactly what we wanted. The hardest part was narrowing down what cake, filling, and icing flavors we wanted. They all sounded so good!
