My husband and I visited the Brumder over the weekend, our first B&B experience. It was wonderful! The only thing I wish I had known is that it doesn't seem to be in the best neighborhood but we were fine. Julie gave us a nice tour of the old Victorian home that was very interesting. The house is beautiful. We stayed in the Gyneth Suite and we're very impressed. Fireplace, king size comfortable bed. That's saying a lot since we are used to our water bed. The jacuzzi tub was definitely a highlight for me I soaked for a long time while watching TV and my husband napped. Our room and sheets were very clean the bathroom was very spacious and beautiful. Breakfast was excellent and everyone we came into contact with was friendly. The owners were very accommodating they allowed us to park our motorcycle in their private parking area which was very generous. We will DEFINITELY be visiting again and be referring lots of friends and family.

Awesome home from 1910. Copious amounts of woodwork, impressive staircase. In the dining room, a very unique tall fireplace. Fairly clean, whirlpools in most if not all rooms. The breakfast was very nice. We stayed 2 days, and both meals were good. The owners from CA were there for our visit, nice folks. Julie gave us a tour, and to my delight included the basement, which has a theater in the main area. Rumor has it, in the old days, the basement held a speakeasy, with two tunnels to homes nearby, where "upstanding" citizens could sneak over and enjoy the booze. Tunnels are gone now, sadly. How cool is that! Traffic on Wisconsin can be loud, i suggest leaving the fan on at night for white noise. Off street parking nearby. Very near to downtown bars, restaurants and other attractions. The shower was really nice, one of only a few in my travels that I did not need to bend over to wash my hair! Tall ceilings throughout the home.

Get ready for some small scale Theater!! It's a bed & breakfast, but they also have shows! I'll admit, I purchased a groupon for this. $50 for two people seemed too good to pass up. I thought we were getting dinner, as well, but it was more like a few very basic appetizers - like the kind you'd have at an office party. Ok, it was cheap so I'm not gonna get hung up on the food! It's not a restaurant, after all! And they kept bottles of wine on the table for refills, yay! The actors were pretty good, very entertaining. I was surprised how many from the audience received "secret" cards to participate, it was so many people, like half of us, at least! Although, it was really cute to see people try to act from the audience ;) well... unless they held their cards in front of them and read line by line, LOL! Jeez, memorize a couple sentences... (who am I to judge, I didn't have to do it) We got a tour of the mansion at the end. Very cool vintagey looking stuff. All-in-all a nice evening.

Stayed there in the George suite. Tom the owner was very hospitable and accommodating. Everyone there was friendly and it was a great place to stay. I would def recommend to anyone.

Great weekend stay. The owners and staff very hospitable and friendly. The room was huge and the jacuzzi tube was awesome. Homemade cookies and wine complimentary and breakfast was great but the conversations about spirits even better. We will certainly be back for a show. Thanks Tom and Julie :)!!

Had such a lovely stay at this interesting historic home! First, the owner personally responded to my request about rates, and he even gave me a discount since I'm a student and would be staying for multiple nights during the week. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. It was winter, and thus off season, so a few times performers were over practicing for the shows they put on here, which was quite entertaining. I had a great time talking with staff, actors, and other guests in a number of the mornings and/or evenings. Drinks and snacks were often provided in the evenings, an unexpected and much appreciated bonus. But the nights I wasn't feeling social there was no pressure to participate. So, best of both worlds: avoid the loneliness of a hotel, but if you want privacy you are given space. I also loved learning the history of the home and admiring the beautiful antique decorations. A great place to stay!

We booked the Gwyneth suite and were informed upon arriving that the jacuzzi was not working. Upon reading the reviews here, it seems this is a long-standing problem. The solution seemed to be to either trek across hall to use the Jacuzzi in the next suite (not very romantic) or accept a different room at the same price. We opted to book at this more expensive bed and breakfast based on the room appearance and the jacuzzi feature, so it was a disappointment. It would have been nice to be offered a discount or some sort of compromise, but rather than waste more of the day arguing, we accepted a different room. The room we stayed in was nice enough, but was sumptuously decorated with grandmother florals and Victorian lace which is again, not terribly romantic. The bed was incredibly high off the ground and I killed my shins on the jutting bedposts more than once. The room had a mechanical fireplace, flatscreen TV, and rainfall shower which were all positives, but the jacuzzi in the room was barely useable. Once the jets were turned on, they squirted ICE COLD water into the tub, quickly chilling the whole bath. They were incredibly noisy, sounding like an outboard motor and the internal mechanism made several spots on the tub's outer edges burning hot so it was impossible to just lean back and relax. The breakfast was average, waffles with some flavorful chicken sausage. It was served later than expected so our day got started later than we hoped and we missed part of our itinerary. The Brumder Mansion is a gorgeous house. The downstairs lounges are beautifully appointed in classic furniture and the staircases are grand. But the room shenanigans and jacuzzi failure really soured the whole experience for me.

First off, it's in a kind of bad part of town and the parking lot is across the street and half a block away from the house. I didn't feel very safe walking back and forth. The house itself seems a bit run-down. We were moved to a different room because the one we had originally booked had some electrical problem. It was nicely decorated but cramped. The bathroom had a folding closet-type door that didn't shut completely. While I was taking a shower, they came up and told me to shut the water off because it was leaking downstairs! A more appropriate response would be to fix the leak. The next morning, we were told we had to change rooms because the room they'd moved us to the night before was reserved for someone else. Pretty inconvenient to move all our stuff, but the suite we ended up in was much larger and nicer than where we'd been before, so I suppose it was worth it. The mattresses in both rooms were very hard; my back hurt when I woke up both mornings. I also didn't appreciate the fact that they didn't either replace or remove the half-empty shampoo and bodywash bottles from the previous guests. The breakfast however was quite good, especially the yogurt with berries and granola. Overall, it seems like the house needs some work in several areas but the owners are more interested in shuffling the guests around and telling them not to use the water than in making the needed repairs.

Absolutely perfect. Beautiful building, excellent service, comfortable accommodations - our stay at the Brumder was a little piece of Milwaukee heaven. We were warmly greeted by Tonja, who gave us a tour of the amazing mansion. We stayed in the luxurious Gyenth Suite. Our jaws dropped when Tonja opened the door to our suite....fireplace, king size bed, huge jacuzzi tub, spacious bathroom with rainfall shower head....the list goes on and on. Tonja did let us know that unfortunately the jets were not working in the tub. Her solution....full access to the suite next door! Talk about hospitality! The next morning Tonja served us a delicous, piping hot breakfast and even let us check out a little late so we could take another brief tour of the building. If you're planning a weekend getaway, or need a place to stay when in Milwaukee, STAY AT THE BRUMDER! The prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality of the accommodations and the high level of service. We have stayed at B&Bs throughout the country, and the Brumber is by far our favorite experience. Thank you Tonja - we'll be back!!!

My husband and I found a youswoop for this place and used it for our anniversary--3 months late. It was cute. I am not a B & B person, so I am not sure about the price ranges or what to expect, but I really enjoyed myself. It was clean, comfortable,romantic and strangely isolated even though it's on the main drag. We were able to check in early. The staff was so kind and the energy of the mansion was chill and calm. It was peaceful like a library but it so welcoming that I felt free to roam around.

We were informed by email that check in was between 4 and 6 pm., so we arrived at 5:45. After 10 minutes standing in the cold, ringing the bell, I called the main line and was told that I was late. I did not get the voicemail at 5:30 saying that they would be leaving early and I would need to call to get the door code. Bottom line is that had they stayed an extra 15 minutes, they could have shown us to our room instead of leaving us on our own to wander the halls of the dark creepy house. The Gyneth room was just as beautiful as the pictures show, but if you want a romantic experience, you will need to bring your own candles to put in the candleholders by the hot tub. Oh, and bring your own ice and cooler to keep your beverages cold.... Or you can walk down the hallway and a flight of stairs each time you want to get a beer out of the communal mini fridge on the 2nd floor. The romance factor was also affected by the squeaky bed and creaky floor. Wonder what the people in the next room heard? Maybe they can use that $180 toward the purchase of a sturdy bed, and save future guests a little embarrassment.
