As far as Bakers Squares go, this one has always been consistently good to me. It's a chain, so obviously it's not the end-all-be-all, but it has it's perks. - The pie is obviously delicious. Go for a free pie Wednesday and get a free slice with your meal. Sold. - It's a cheap place to get a decent meal. You can get a salad, soup, sandwich and slice of pie for like $10. - The wait staff has always been kind and attentive, even when the place is busy. - The clientele is typically families and the elderly. Makes a nice change of pace from fighting the hungover college students at brunch downtown. - They have a good sized parking lot (which can be hugely important in the Milwaukee area!) and it's got a stop light at it's entrance, so you never have to fight the traffic on Capitol to enter or leave. - When you get a breakfast that comes with a bakery item, that muffin shows up on your plate nice and warm, with a big pat of butter for you to smother on it. Because there's nothing better in the world than butter on a warm muffin (you're welcome, hips). - Breakfast is served all day. Enough said.

Baker's Square is one of those places that I'll hit up once in a great while, even though I don't normally like chain restaurants. Last night, with temps below zero, was perfect for one of these nights. A nice warm sandwich and soup would totally hit the spot....and to top it off with a slice of pie? I'm in. I hate when I have to say this, but service was very poor. Our waitress went through the motions of how a waitress should be, but that's about all. Never went out of the way to be extra courteous, even when we appeared to be one of 3-4 tables in the restaurant. One would think if it was a slow, cold night, you'd do a little more to make as much in tips as you can. This wasn't the case. Went for the chicken club sandwich, and it was ok.....just not real good. The bottom bun was soaked and kind of unedible, but the chicken and the top bun were actually pretty good. Fries were about as boring as fries can get, but were helped with a little ranch dressing. Here's my biggest gripe. I don't expect the pies they serve to look exactly like the picture menu on the table...but they should be in the ballpark. I asked for a piece of pie and was given the saddest replication of what pie could possibly look like. It was still tasty, but it was small, and just looked sad.

My friends and I all came in super late but thank goodness Baker's Square is open until midnight. We first walked up and thought it was closed because the lights inside aren't that bright and because of the dark outside their windows weren't much help for light. The women who served us is a manager, I'm assuming and she was super friendly. Our food took quite some time to come out to us also assuming they only had one person making food for 6 people but it was worth the wait. All of our food was delicious and none of us had a single complaint. We raved to the manager about how we will be coming back.

What no one has review this place yet? I mean just because it is Bakers Square does not mean it is not worthy of review! Plus it has been here for like, ever. Ambiance: It is Bakers Square - just like all the other Baker Squares, big people in big hats on Sunday, big people wanting free pie on Wednesday and your average cross section in America sitting in a plastic box every other day. There always seems to be business happening here. Wait staff: We have been here a couple times when we are lacking any sort of creativity or overruled but the under 5 feet contingent in the family. The staff has always been nice, hard working and had that look in their eye that they would like to be somewhere else that looking at you. Food: It is Bakers Square, it fills a need and is the same no matter if you are in Shorewood or Spruce Pine NC and they will call you "Hun" in both places. You know what it is, so why are you reading a review?

Note to management: WAIT staff needed! The food was great...once we got service which was friendly. The food was fresh and to order which was good. BUT the bus servers and cooks were slow. We had to wait for one of the service guys to bring coffee and he never returned to check and see if we needed a refill.. No one ever offered us water. They need more wait staff in order to ensure customer service. One group got tired of waiting and walked out.
