Great value! We ordered take out. The portions were so large we couldn't finish the entire meal. I ordered the Gyro Sandwich with a Chicken Enchilada Soup. The soup was spicy and too heavy. I took a few spoonfuls but was unable to finish. It was in my view unnecessary to provide soup with the size of the meal. My compliments on the Gyro it was warm and fresh out of the take out container.

As far as traditional family diners go, Athens is good. The food is fresh (I found a bay leaf in my soup....) and the service is very friendly. The French onion soup was wildly oversalted, but the rest of the food was solid to slightly above average, and even the traditional "diner" food has some subtle Greek touches--I could have sworn I tasted allspice(?) in the gravy on the mashed potatoes. Would I come back? Probably, especially if I had a craving for huge piles of diner-style food.

I'm here for the Sunday brunch - it's fantastic 6 meat selections, 3 egg selections, and all the usual. The price is great. Try the corn beef hash another day, that was great too.

We came for the lunch buffet on Easter and we had an underwhelming experience. They didn't have enough wait staff. It took a long time to get our drinks and we had to ask 3 people to get silverware. None of them were very professional, including the waitress, who took a while to get anything. The only staff member friendly to us was the man cutting the prime rib.The manager was floating around the whole time we were there and never talked to customers. Otherwise, the building is in need of a remodel. The experience we had at the lunch buffet two years ago was much better. Some of the food was good, such as the yummy ribs. Most of it had been sitting on the buffet too long and looked unappetizing (and didn't taste much better). I didn't try half of the hot foods because of my concern about how old it looked. Nearly all the foods weren't changed out for the whole hour of our visit. The hot food selection wasn't great: half was breakfast items like eggs and bacon and half was various boring items such as mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The desserts were extremely boring and mostly bread products. Only 10% had any chocolate. The buffet was $15.95 per person and the quality of it didn't even come close to this price point. A chain like Golden Corral has superior food quality and selection. This is disappointing, as my visit here before was very good. This restaurant seems like it has gone downhill.

Breakfast is the way to go here. Great diner breakfast, decent coffee too. Inexpensive breakfast specials. Highlights were grits, French toast and raisin toast with lots of raisins. Fast service and friendly waitstaff.

Came here for my one hour lunch. Order a steak, Hashbrowns and side salad. The salad was very basic and it's easy you can do it at home style salad. The steak, the stea... Ground beef, was no steak. It was ground beef made to look like a steak model. You don't even need a knife or butter knife to cut through it, it'll crumble at the instant touch of your fork. Horrible place and definitely killed my curiosity. Go to El Greco on 91st & Hampton, you'll find satisfaction there.

After eating here last night and ordering their turkey stuffing dinner entrée I don't think I want to go back and eat at this place again. Their food probably was over cooked because I awoke to stomach pains and rushed to the bathroom and had a very bad bowel experience. All morning long I had been feeling abdominal pains and using the bathroom every 15 minutes or so. I will definitely call and speak to the manager! Never ever going back to this restaurant again! I wish I could have rated the thumbs down.

Cute servers here (watch your comments since there is a Exotic dancing place across the street! :)). Simple Greek prepared with a Mexican flair (my for example Gyro was wrapped in a burrito tortilla). If you are out here in the middle of nowhere, and need some eggs, this place will do. I would not make a trip here just for the food.

This is hands down one of my 11 year-old's favorite restaurants. We love the friendly staff and the piles of food. It is a great place to grab a little comfort on a plate.

With the temperatures staying well below freezing, my friend John the Certified Italian Chef called to tell me it was time for lunch Wednesday despite the seven degree weather. After all, he said "the cleaning woman was coming over." Since it was my turn to buy, I quickly went on-line and down loaded an Entertainment Coupon for the Athens Restaurant. Having not been here in nearly three years and the $9 bonus discount value, hopefully we would have an enjoyable dining experience. Surprisingly the car almost steered itself to the former Denny's location on Milwaukee's northwest side. Pulling in right at Noon, the parking lot was less then 1/3 full. It looked like the freeze had taken its toll on business or ??? We would soon find out. Quickly seated, we studied the large menu selection over some hot coffee. John quickly discovered one of his favorite offerings....Broiled Whitefish on the dinner selections, but at $15.95 ouch!!! Good news soon came from our waitress Ella, who when inquiring about the meal was informed by her that it was on Special for just $11.95. The look on the Certified Chef's face quickly brighten as I told him to order it. From that point on it looked like a parade of food. A full salad bowl started the meal with a large bread basket. The Broiled Whitefish came in two large pieces nearly filling the entire plate bringing a big smile to his face. Was it as good as it looked? It even came with a complementary glass of wine. Never interrupt a Certified Chef but he sure looked happy. A separate plate held one of the biggest baked potatoes I have seen in a long while. John appeared to be in "Chef's Heaven." As for dessert, my wife thanks him for the Strawberry Cheese Cake. Needless to say, this was a trip to paradise for him. I ordered the Gyros Lunch Special for $7.99, after all at Athens why not go Greek, sorry John. Unfortunately while there was a large portion of food, my Gyros had little taste. It included a cup of better than average chicken dumpling soup and a large helping of golden brown fries. Too bad, this could have been a FIVE star experience. Athens features a full bar and serves an extensive menu throughout the day. We will be returning, but calling ahead to see if the superb Whitefish is on Special.

This use to be one of my favorite restaurants but now the food is horrible. I believe they are under new ownership because the food all came back undercooked. I miss the old food and staff.

I had the combo plate with gyro meat, lamb shank, spinach pie, rice and a nice Greek salad. The spinach pie with the pastry crust was the star of the plate and was that good because it had feta cheese in it. The gyro meat was average. The lamb shank was meaty and a nice size. The rice was plain and the most boring thing on the plate. This was a lot of food and as left overs it took two more meals to finish it. I'm glad I got to sample the combo but would not order this too often because of the size of this meal. I would like to sample more of the menu in the future.

I had just moved to the area, was starving after moving all day, and this was the first place my family and I saw. I expected it to be typical diner-quality greasy food. I was so wrong. The food was exceptional--really delicious. The ingredients were fresh, the menu was enormous. So many options, including many vegetarian, healthy, and ethnic ones. Our waitress was perfectly bubbly, friendly, and attentive. I really am quite glad I stumbled upon this place when I did. I will absolutely be back.

Went there for Father's Day breakfast, and it was great! Ther service was good and most of us had the buffet which was good. There were plenty of options to choose from on the buffet, and it was still under $10. I have heard good things about the fish fry, and I would not hesitate to try it out. That will be next!

I just stopped in for lunch today. Was out looking for places to hold a mastermind group meeting or networking function. I just added Athens to the top of my list! Waitress was very friendly and gave great service. I don't eat gluten, so I asked her for suggestions. Ended up having the salad bar and it was delicious. Fruit was ripe, chili was tasty and right temp, salad was fresh, good dressings available, generous refills of decaf, they even gave me a little dish of honey to sweeten it up. There is a ton of space here, so it looks to be great for groups of any size. Prices are very reasonable. I'm a fan already and this was my first visit!

Food is amazing ALWAYS done right. Service is friendly caring attentive flawless. The atmosphere of the place is also what makes Athens a top of the line dining experience. Always have a good time here. I recommend.

Very good food, great service. We were visiting Milwaukee for the day and ate a late supper. Two adults, two kids. The dinner special comes with lots of choices and lots of food. You will enjoy it for family dining. Seems to be family run and was a nice experience.

WOWZERS...that's a lot of food...I loved the homey feel of the place and my server was so friendly and nice... I had a combo plate since I couldn't decide between the lamb chops, the gyro and the greek salad...I asked my server and she said...why not try the combination plate...it came with a lamb shank, gyro meat, some spinach quiche type thing, salad and wine even... it was a super value and really tasty...lots of flavor...I couldn't even finish it...I was all done with my dinner and I barely made a dent on the plate

well, where do i start .... i do not know where some of the other people who left a review were dining. this place is just kinda so-so. for a traditional "Greek family dining" type experience, i guess it does not rank as high as the Forum on S. Highway 100 or the Melrose on S. 27th St. i'd even go back to Zebb's or Benny's on S. 27th St. before i stepped foot back at the Athens. i tried this place out after reading the reviews. i walked away disappointed. the environment is somewhat stark and overly generic. mind you the restaurant used to be a Denny's ... so generic is what i should have expected. the Seafood buffet on Fridays for $15 was a good deal financially, but it was set up all wrong (dressings before the salad ... you know what i mean). it just looked like someone threw it together and didn't give it too much thought. there were 3 kinds of deep fried fish ... ehhh, after it sat in a covered steam table the fish was a bit moist. i don't like overly cooked fish, but i don't want to eat breading that is moist either. the calamari came straight from the box. i mean, really?!? ... the clams were the same. their only saving grace is they were not like rubber bands or soaked in oil. peel and eat shrimp was straight from the freezer with actual chunks of ice still nestled within the shrimp. i didn't even want to try the smoked salmon. i thought the other stuff was barely passable ... so i didn't expect the salmon to be any good at all and probably as generic as everything else served on the buffet. i guess the only saving grace for dinner was the regular fish fry was not all you can eat for $11 and the buffet was all you can eat for $15. at the same time, there is nothing that could get me back into this restaurant except a famine. the fish fry at Melrose has thicker pieces of cod and beer batter that is slightly crispier than i would normally like ... but it's better than what i had here. the Forum's fish fry is even better than this, although the pieces of fish are smaller than at Melrose. the service was horrible. i guess the server just didn't want to be bothered to remove the dirty plates, even though it is state law that you can't use the same plate if you have a buffet. if you try this place out, good luck to you! if you love it, perhaps you need to get out more!

Ordered the spaghetti for takeout. Came with garlic bread and small soup for $12.46. Only ate 1/2 the spaghetti...meatballs had an odd taste to them. Odyssey in Menomonee Falls does it much better.

WOW! Seriously. Great food and really affordable. They start out every breakfast with two pieces of coffee cake. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. My boyfriend and I go in there and have breakfast for under $20.00. We always have leftovers! They have omelets, pancakes, skillets (with gyro meat). It is a simple, comfortable restaurant with absolutely great food.
