This is my first Yelp review with hopefully more to come! My man and I are on the hunt for the best fish fry in the Milwaukee area. This was the second time we visited 68th Street Pub and we were not disappointed! The Food: We started by sharing the crab cakes... They were not the best but good enough. The whole outside was deep fried. If I want a great crab cake I will save that craving for Barnacle Bud's. Although I wasn't a big fan of the appetizer, 68th street pub definitely has one of the best fish fries! I had the fried cod and my boyfriend had the walleye. Both fish were lightly breaded and tasted fresh. The fish was flaky and amazing! Out of the two dishes I'd say the walleye is the way to go although the cod was also good! The French fries were not the best... And they were out of potato pancakes (which I normally go for) so slightly disappointed, but the fish made up for these shortcomings. Atmosphere: Small, but we were seated right away. It is just the perfect hole-in-the-wall south side bar that you expect with a great fish fry. On our next visit I'd like to try the baked fish which I got a peak of at an adjacent table.

This is a nice little pub with excellent food. However, it isn't fancy in the least so don't go here expecting a super nice place. No my friends, go here because their fish fry is top notch. For $8.95 you get 4 chunks of beautifully done beer battered cod, fries (potato pancakes are available for 50 cents I think), rye bread, and coleslaw. I am not a huge fish fry fan, but since I ate here a few months ago I find myself craving it every few weeks. They also make an excellent steak sandwich. The kitchen is open until 8 pm most nights and 10 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays when they make their mighty fish fry. I think.... They are a cash only place but do have an ATM onsite.

Take a moment or two for your eyes to adjust to this dimly lit corner bar, so that you can take in your surroundings and you may ask yourself, "Am I really going to get a decent fish fry in this place ?". Not that the interior is offensive, not at all, this is just a small place that looks a lot like any of the other 1000 corner bars in Wisconsin. To tell you that it would take you two steps to walk from the door to the bar, is probably an overestimate. But, after you take those two steps, you will be greeted by a friendly bartender, perhaps even the owner, who will ask if they can fetch a glass of any particular elixir you might be craving. At this point you need to take the lead, 'cause if you don't let the barkeep know that you would like to order food it will be assumed that you are content with the consumption of your beverage of choice. Once you let your intentions be known and your name is taken for a spot at one of the 10 tables available, it is generally a short wait before you are seated. Once seated, you will be given a menu which lists a few apps, burgers, a couple of sandwiches, wings and their Friday fish fries (also served Wednesday). Well let me tell you, although I have partaken in a few of their limited menu offerings, all quite good, their Cod Fish fry is stellar. There are other fish fry choices on the menu, all of which are better than the average water dwelling creatures offered up at most dining establishments, but for my money, the $8.95, 4 large piece plate of perfectly fried flaky fish, with the ultimate consistency (not mashed potatoey or hashbrowns) seasoned potato pancakes, served with a small side of crispy slaw and rye bread topped off with traditional tarter and lemon, or malt vinegar if you prefer, should be considered as one of the best fish frys in Milwaukee. This is the kind of place where displaced Wisconsinites living on the East or West coasts dream about, not when they want the latest trendy healthy fish preparations that they may be getting in their new environments, but when they want that crunchy, tender, sensationally satisfying, orgasm of the taste bud experience. Now, if I could only convince the owners to bring back their weekly Mexican menu offerings, priced above their old specials, which incorporates their succulent fish instead of beef or chicken, I think, with a couple tweaks, this place has the potential of producing some of the best fish tacos around.

The food here is great. Burgers, chicken , fish fry are really good! But, the best is the walleye; it is as good as it gets. Point beer on tap and it tastes like it just got off the truck from Stevens Point. The place is small, but the wait is worth it.
