More like a 3.5. It is pretty good. Nice portions at great prices. Margarita was pre-made, or bottled. Definitely not hand made. Chile Colorado is one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I couldn't decide between the Chile Colorado and the Chile Colorado Burrito. Went with the burrito...I was impressed and definitely will try the actual dish next time. Warm cheese dip served with the chips and salsa could have been bigger, or at least don't charge for it if it stays that small of a portion. Overall, I was impressed and will be back. Don't trust the map they have listed here. It is just out of the main part of town on B. Not all the way beyond Round Lake....I believe it's where the old Lumberjack Restaurant was (so sad that no longer exists...ahhh memories). That's all.

Basic mexican. Great salsa, but didn't think anything special on the food. Some very expensive options. Quantity over quality.

Food was pretty good, but it's WI so expectations aren't high. We've gone here a few times this Summer as we love Mexican food. The salsa is good, chips average. The enchiladas and burritos are common but the pollo dishes ( la crema, and one with peppers, onions & tomatoes) are really tasty. Prices and portions are excellent, and the service is always superior to any place in Hayward, except maybe the coop family restaurant. It seems to be a family business and very well managed. We hope to come back often.

Disappointing. The owner took our order and didn't write it down...yup, you know what happened. He messed up my husbands order (completely) and I was done with my food before he got his. A waitress was helping us too and they both seemed too good to serve us. Who knows, maybe they are. Hope the $1 we left em serves them well. At least this experience reminded me of how to treat my customers when I serve them. :)

We went here for the first time recently. La Cabana Canes Cantina is in a good location in Hayward. The menu is huge - lots of great choices. Service was excellent. The food is authentic and very delicious! We will be back soon.

My husband, who is Mexican, and I stopped here last week while on a business trip in the area. He is picky about what's good Mexican food or not. He loved it! I loved it - it was super, delicious and the service was outstanding! There was a lot to choose from on the menu so I can't wait until we are in the area again so we can go back and try another fabulous entree.

Maybe the the best authentic steak Mexican tacos you will ever have! Tacos Mexicanos is what they are called on the menu. The ala carte tacos are so so. The homemade fresh salsa is awesome too. I haven't eaten anywhere else when staying in Hayward.

Food was very good and service was fast. The waiter checked back to see if everything was alright and it was! We thought this place was a little out of place for the Northwoods setting but tried it anyway. We will most, likely go back as my husband loves Mexican and we found it to be a really fun experience here in Hayward. Hope that if you are visiting you will give it a try...seemed authentic and is a nice change from the usual Northwoods restaurants and supper clubs.

Food was bad. The fajitas and a bean borrito plate were not good. Even the salsa was poor. Won't be back.

We had a great trip to this restaurant. We had a variety of food, from the classic tacos and enchiladas, to more exotic choices and mixed drinks. Everything we had was good, and the service was great. We will certainly be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
