I just took my two teenage girls there for Sunday Breakfast today based on a recommendation. We were sat in the back at table with it's own little table lamp up against the wall and next to a living room arrangement...the place is very charming. It was also very busy as you can imagine on a Sunday at 10:30 am. We were immediately greeted by an obviously frazzled and stressed out waitress who who was unable to recite one of their daily specials which she admitted she was embarrassed about...she eventually looked it up and told us it was a quiche that had pears and caramelized onions. We placed our orders for coffee and hot chocolates and a round of waters. The coffee and hot chocolates came soon enough but the waters never arrived. We sat there for nearly 30 minutes before we ever saw our waitress again. It was clear she had forgotten us. We considered just paying for the drinks and leaving to go across the street to the Mineshaft but alas she finally arrived to take our orders after we were noticed being unattended to by one of the other waitresses. Again, appearing very frazzled she took our orders for Eggs Benedict, cheese and mushroom quiche, and baked oatmeal. After another long wait during which we realized she had forgotten us again, we managed to get her attention and she said "oh...let me see if your food is ready". She said this in a way that made clear that she herself realized she had completely forgotten. Well of course the food had been ready for some time just waiting for her to pick it up. By this time the egg dishes were barely above room temperature and the Hollandaise sauce had already formed like a skin layer over the top as further evidence that it had been sitting around. Worst yet was the baked oatmeal. It would have been fantastic but because it sat around it too was no longer hot but was actually cold since before it leaves the kitchen they pour cold half and half around it which would have otherwise been very nice when served right away with a hot cake of oatmeal in the center. Being kids my 12 and 13 year old daughter didn't seem to care but I found the whole experience very unnerving to say the least. I am willing to chalk this up to just an isolated unfortunate experience as the place is very inviting and the food is otherwise delicious. I will be back but I will make sure to have a different server although to be fair it may not have been the server's fault if she had been assigned too many tables to attend to.

Delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, coffee drinks (Alterra coffee) and teas. Atmosphere is very cozy, relaxing, casual, friendly and calm. A great place for a tasty lunch and a place to de-stress from the week and drink your coffee (or tea) slowly. When it comes to eateries in Washington County, Perc Place is one of my favorites.

The perfect antidote to Starbucks. The best soy latte I've ever had. They serve beer and wine in the evening (maybe in the morning, too, who knows.) I've had a quiche and a breakfast sandwich, both were good. Gooood bacon. Only drawback is that they don't have wireless access.

Food is usually very good. Service is almost always poor. Very slow. Been going here regularly for almost three years. So this review is based on many visits. Out waitress today (Stephany) was the worst yet. Didn't apologize for food that took almost 45 minutes to arrive. Forgot my coffee. Never checked back in to see how the meal was.

I'm sad to write a bad review for this place because it's adorable and I usually love it. But I came in for dinner tonight by myself, was seated, and then the waitress forgot about me completely. Did I mention I was sitting there by myself? Which in general I'm pretty comfortable with. But when you slowly come to realize no one is coming to take your order it's somehow ten times more awkward when you're sitting there by yourself. Extremely disappointed :/ UPDATE: place redeemed by sincere apology and free glass of wine!

Perc Place is a shining beacon of light in sleepy, dreary, little downtown Hartford. After years of hearing my great cousin, grandmother, and mother talk about Perc Place like it's Disney Land, I finally had to try it myself. My father and I popped in for a late lunch on a Thursday. I was immediately surprised at how busy it was. Not surprisingly, it was filled with retirees. Nonetheless, the place was buzzing. We ordered a mocha, side salad, and a Black Forest sandwich to split. Our waitress was very charming and made us feel welcome. Our mocha came very quickly and the food followed not long after. The sandwich was HUGE and did not lack flavor or ingredients. The side salad was also a very generous portion. The prices were great for a lovely lunch (maybe I've been living in NorCal too long?!) The atmosphere is unique, artsy, and eclectic. There are decorative knickknacks for sale throughout the location-- the dining room almost doubles as a boutique. I took a side trip to check out the coffee counter. There are great options for folks that are interested in a take-and-go cup of coffee or a snack like a traditional coffee shop. Of course, the abundance of seating lounging opportunities encourages folks to stay for awhile. I may not be a fan of downtown Hartford, but Perc Place is truly a place I can appreciate!

I would generally rate this place a 5. Today was not so great. Ok but not memorable. Normally they seat you, tell you the specials. No specials were read, I asked for lemon and it wasn't brought. Again, not poor service, but not great. Food was as yummy as ever! :)

I normally love perc place. Its one of my favorite places in hartford. However a few weeks ago my boyfriend went to perc place to get me lunch for my lunch break when he gets me from work and hands me the bag we pull out two paninis. We had ordered wraps. We got the entirely wrong thing. We ate them because we didn't have time to go back because my break was only 30 mins. But we were very disappointed that we didn't get was we ordered. Also I called today to order a pick up for my lunch break and they answer saying that they are closed because they are moving. Even though their hours on Google say that they are open and on their website it says that they hope to open their new building July 1st. Its August 4th. I get it things don't happen the way they are planned. But they should have at least updated their website or hours so that i would have known.

There aren't many good options in Hartford but this is a good one! Food is always tasty but the portions can be small, especially for their beverages.

Fast, pleasant service, Great variety of food. The Decor was delightfully quirky. The artwork on the walls again very interesting. Great cup of coffee too.

It's a very cute cafe with delicious sandwiches and the smoothies are great. It seemed like there were too many workers that had nothing to do, so they were standing around and one was literally walking by tables over and over asking if we were done and could take anything... Constantly! And was very awkward about it... But I recommend trying a sandwich, very yummy and unique.

The owner (Cynthia) of this establishment is incredibly rude to her staff and mistreats them. Yesterday I witnessed her yelling at a barista when the restaurant was incredibly busy after the winter carnival. Other customers were saying that they were sorry for the barista too. Customers shouldn't have to console staff because the owner mistreats them. I've witnessed this multiple times, so I see that it is the owner being unreasonable and irrational. I won't be bringing my business here anymore until Cynthia cools down and learns that places of business are more successful when staff are happy and enjoy their places of work. No wonder there is so much turnover. I know there aren't many eateries in Hartford, but we shouldn't be supporting an establishment like this in our city.

The Perc Place is an over priced coffee shop run by religious homophobic bigots. They recently told Wisconsin television personality and well respected Milwaukee actor John McGivern that he and his kind were not welcome there. John is gay and has a partner of many years. I would not set foot in the place.

We recently stopped in for a coffee to go and it was good. I would come back to sit down and try menu items. The service I received and witnessed seemed to be very good.

Perc Place is my absolute favorite place for a much needed pick me up. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the drinks are delicious (we haven't really ordered much beyond that! Well... Except for cookies... Cookies are the exception to everything! ). Skip those big name places and support someplace a million times better!

Great place for coffee, Chai, and their breakfast sandwiches. The employees are pretty rude however one was very rude to another employee who seemed to be new and overwhelmed by a busy Sunday morning. Another one seemed to actually be pretty biased toward me simply cuz I'm a guy? I was going to take my gfs order since she had saved a table for us and immediately was told it wasn't mine rudely. Then I was waiting for a sandwich and she asked me why I'm standing there rudely again like I was creeping on her or something. No, I'm waiting for a sandwich. Not all guys are pigs. The only employee I thought was pleasant was the newer cashier.

This place is amazing. Their cream of asparagus soup is extraordinary. Never - EVER - have I eaten a cream of asparagus soup that actually tasted like asparagus. Though the soup was lacking a bit of salt, its overall flavor was mild, sweet, and the delicate flavor of fresh (not canned!) asparagus stood out brilliantly. The French roll that I ordered as an extra (a huge roll AND a cookie for only $1.65? awesome!) was hot, crusty, and pre-cut so I didn't have to fiddle around and burn my fingers. Quite possibly the best roll I've ever eaten. To be honest and slightly creepy, I can't stop thinking about it. The staff was exceptionally friendly and very attentive despite the rush-hour lunch. So get your butts to Hartford, people!

I always enjoy grabbing a coffee and recently enjoyed a nice lunch. The prices are similar to Panera, but the food seems fresher!

Been here several times during visits to the area. One of my favorites and we always make the effort to go once or twice. Good for breakfast and lunch. Friendly service. Wi-fi would be a good addition although they never seem to suffer for business.

I really enjoy this place! I grew up in the area and remember when the current owners took over the place. They really did a great job of fixing the place up and making it into a fantastic, friendly place. The food is good. The atmosphere is very calm and friendly. I like the coffee drinks, but am not a huge connoisseur of coffee, so don't trust my judgement on that.... :-) I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cute small-town like place to go for a meal and/or coffee!

This was a great local find. I visited for breakfast and was not disappointed. Coffee was good and fresh, breakfast sandwich and fruit was good too. Servers were friendly. I will come back should I have time when in the area.

This is a really neat place. Located on Main Street in downtown Hartford, the atmosphere is cool, hip and warm. Very friendly staff, good coffee (not sitting on hot plate --- burning), unique & yummy menu. I plan on returning again and again. I have not experienced this personally... but I understand they have entertainment in the evenings from time to time as well.

The coffee drinks and food are over-priced. I don't like the smell of the food cooking. Maybe it's the diffferent items mixing? Need a better ventilation system.

I am back home from California on a break, and my mom took me here for lunch one day. I have to say, I was really impressed. They serve Alterra coffee, which I miss so very much. I had an Americano which may very well be the best Americano I have ever had, and for lunch I had the Roma (I think- it was the panini with mozzarella, tomato, roasted red pepper, and balsamic), which was also very good. The atmosphere was very nice. It was cute and had either couches or tables that you could sit on. It seems like a good place to catch up with friends or do homework. It is also in downtown Hartford, which I thought was a really cute place. The staff was really nice as well. I definitely would recommend it. I don't give away 5 stars freely (it has to really blow me away), but trust me- its really good!

Maybe the only place in Hartford worth eating at. The food here is good, service has been good, coffee is pretty good, and the soups are always well-made. My only criticism is that there doesn't seem to be adequate ventilation in the kitchen at this place, and the air gets kind of thick from that. Then you go home smelling like you've been working the grill all day. Aside from that, it's great. My advice is to drive right past that Mineshaft dump and go here instead.

Order a panini...they're great and reasonably priced. Service was fast and very friendly. We arrived on a Tuesday about 11am and got seated right away but more guests arrived during the noon hour. Looked like lots of local downtown folks come here for lunch. Would definitely return!

I'm rating this 5 stars for several reasons. One, because their food is excellent, I love their pepper bacon. I'm not all that into many different coffee drinks, but I love a good cup of old fashioned strong black coffee, and in serving Alterra they give me that for sure. Their service is always excellent. I, for one, am glad they don't have wireless access. As someone who is only able to visit them on the weekends, I'd hate for their already busy cafe to be clogged up with people who are only there to sip on a coffee while checking their twitter accounts. As far as I'm concerned, keep your laptops at home and get a smart phone or tablet with 3g if you're that worried about being online constantly.
