I RARELY take lunch breaks at work. That being said, I ALWAYS end up at Loaf & Jug when I do. They have gluten free bread. Im sorry, let me repeat THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE BREAD. I can eat here. Like a normal person. OMGz! Sandwiches! How you order can be a little tricky, as you walk in and there is a flower pot of order forms and pens. You fill out what you'd like on your sandwich.. there are all kinds of options for sauce, chz, meat, and veggies. ALSO! A good call is to get it toasted! You can also choose one of their "suggested" sandwiches for all of you out there who are very indecisive. If you want to go the salad route- its also a good one.. they have a Salmugundi (sp?) salad that I frequent when I am not in the mood for a sandwich. They have a bunch of really yummy looking pies as you stand in line to pay for you r meal.. I cant attest that any of them are good but I mean they look GREAT! Ive been with friends who have had their bakery items (especially brownies or 7 layer bars) and rave about them. Its kind of like eating a good lunch at your grandma's house..without the weird smells.. And dont worry about clearing your space (one of my fav parts) because someone will do that for you.. SO! If you are in the Brookfield area and dont want to hit up a chain, try this really great little sandwich/soup/salad place! Hours are 11-4, perfect for a lunch!

The sandwiches here are possibly the best in the area, and the establishment as a whole is simply a nice place. On my last visit I had one of their suggested sandwiches rather than making my own, and it was great. It was a grilled chicken sandwich with some nice greens, onions, mayo/mustard on some great fresh bread. It's a bit pricey for a sandwich, but well justified being the quality and freshness that it is. I didn't get an alcoholic beverage, but It's nice that they have relatively cheap beer and wine there. As good as the soups and sandwiches are, the desserts are the real star. Their fruit pies are great. The staff is always very friendly and pleasant, and I've never had a bad experience there.

Great spot for a healthy, affordable lunch. Located next to Sendik's market, it's an upscale spot, with plenty of parking. And my sandwich was just $6!

Nothing special. My suggestion, go next store, buy 1) a loaf of bread 2) half a pound of turkey 3) some Boston lettuce 4) a back of sargentos' swiss cheese 5) some sprouts 6) brown mustard 7) mayo total cose maybe $20 total number of sandwiches 6-7 cost $3-4 dollars per sandwich Loaf and Jug They go to the same sendicks to buy the same ingredients and charge you $ 6 dollars per Sandwich, 2 for a coke, and 2 dollars for a muffin Nothing special, boring, bland women who wait on you Place isn't worth it. Miss Bear Creak - was much much better.

I have been going to the loaf and jug for years! Through these years I have gotten to know the staff and the owner, all very friendly and genuinely strive to provide great customer service! There's someone that comes by to pick up your tray! How nice is that?! Better service than panera. I've read a few of the other reviews and felt I had to comment. I don't understand the griping about a sandwich that people could make at home? Isn't that the point of going out and grabbing a bite? So you don't have to make it? And how many are baking there bread fresh in the morning at home? Anyways, the homemade pies are enough to stop in by themselves. I cannot find a pie like this anywhere. Reminds me of the ones grandma used to make.. my favorites are definitely strawberry rhubarb, fruit lovers and banana cream! Keep up the good work loaf and jug, I will continue to support your business and eat your pie! ;)

Simple, unpretentious food. Nothing to go home and brag about. You could probably make the same sandwich or omelette at home, and you'd save a few bucks!

The food is simple but delicious. I really like the cheddar onion roll as the bread for my sandwich. The pies and desserts always look amazing. I wish I could try them all! They have some coupons on their website, and the Visit Brookfield also features coupons for the restaurant. The layout of the restaurant is homey and casual. I wish they opened in the evenings because then I would have more opportunities to visit.

I was able to enjoy lunch at the Loaf and Jug last week. When you walk into the restaurant you fill out an order form and then bring it up to the counter. You can create your own sandwich or omelette or you can pick from one of their sandwich or salad specials. My mom-in-law and I decided to split a Reuben sandwich and their Salmagundi salad (basically a fancy chef salad, which I think they're well-known for). I would recommend both of these. Everything was fresh and made quickly by friendly staff. The atmosphere of Loag and Jug is cute and casual, with a nice big fire place in the middle of the restaurant. They're only open from 11am-4pm, but this is a great place to grab a healthy and fresh lunch.

The wife and I visited here with two of her high school friends during a recent trip back to Wisconsin, and it is by far the best meal we had during our week in cheeseheadland. The decor was comfy, the sandwiches and salads were delicious, and the pie was very good (although, of course the pie-crust doesn't measure up to my homemade!) We shared a piece of the blueberry pie (we wanted the strawberry rhubarb, because that just isn't found in Cali, but they were out!) Anyway, next time we're out that way, I'd make the trip from Madison just to stop in!

The food is ok. Baked goods are awesome. The 1 star is for the employees. The employees are awful. I have been there twice in the past month- and both times the same lady behind the counter has been so rude. Her attitude alone is stopping me from going there anymore. She did not greet me at all, just started making my food and actually sighed and said "I guess so" when I asked if I could get my dressing on the side. If you want to increase your business you should tell your employees to not seem inconvenienced by their customers.

I love the system here. You grab an order form from the podium at the front door and take it to the counter. If you miss something, they ask. They make everything from scratch in the morning. I'm in love with the #9 sandwich and the summer salad. Also, the coconut cream pie or the strawberry rhubarb are amazing! A friend did a private party here after hours and they did a great job.

Clock strikes 11 and you enter Loaf & Jug. First stop is to get an order sheet to check off what you want on your sandwich/salad. You order and they make your food in a single file line so you could be standing in line a while. $10 for a cold cut sandwich, nuff said. They have salads as well, but it's nothing special. Definitely a rip off for lunch, especially when you can just go to the grocery store next door. The pies look delicious, but the rest of the desserts are a no go. We got a brownie and it tastes like old, dried up chocolate cake. They're open 11-4 so it's best to come early for fresh pies.

Service is quick, greet you well. Soup and sandwich options are plentiful. Food is tasty. Bakery options are fresh and delicious(I.e French blueberry pie). Loved the selection and service was good :)

A good place for lunch with the most confusing ordering system for a sandwich. Great pies!!!

  • Nicholas P.

Loaf and jug is a nice change from the normal sandwich chains all over the area. The sandwich options set for you are unique and delicious. You can also custom make pretty much any order you want. I had a delicious chicken sandwich on focaccia. They microwaved it though. I think throwing it on a panini grill would have made it much better. Get rid of the microwave and you have 5 stars.

This was our first time at the Loaf & Jug and I would not go back. As many others have mentioned the ordering system is confusing for first timers. There was a girl standing by a register when we walked in, I asked if we could place an order and she looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. My wife took our orders to the counter. The man working the register was rude to her because she didn't put the orders on separate sheets of paper....makes sense right? Food came right away and my first thought was "wow, did they just walk over to Sendiks and get this from the deli?" I had a ham, turkey and Colby sandwich on sourdough with a cup of the cheese vegetable soup. The soup was bland and loaded with dill, about the only spice you could taste. The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because my 4 year old son really enjoyed his Kraft Mac n cheese that cost $6.

I'm sure by looking at my local reviews, I'm not a huge fan of the food selection in Waukesha County. So, places like Loaf & Jug deserve a little love and to let other knows that there are some descent places out here. Loaf and Jug is located in a the strip mall that houses Sendik's. The fare is similar to what you'd find at a Panera and Le Pain Quotidien.......sandwiches, soup, and salads. In my view, the sandwiches are a step up from the previously mentioned. Portion sizes are good, as are the prices. I tend to order a piece of the quiche and a side of spinach salad with their homemade poppy seed dressing. The quiche changes daily, and is consistently pretty good! The best part of Loaf and Jug are the pies! The fruit pies are good, but the cream variety is where it's at! The fruit crisps are also good!

Lots of gluten-free choices! Though I do not have a severe gluten allergy, the staff was cautious with contamination and even remade my sandwich after a mixup. The staff was knowledgable and helpful. Wish they had gluten-free deserts!

I don't enjoy the complicated way that you have to order. What I do enjoy is their tasty food and sandwiches.i go here more often now that they are in the more convenient sendiks Plaza that used to be a pain to go there when they were in Stonewood Village. It is usually pretty busy at lunch.

Normally love coming here for lunch - the salmagundi salad with half ranch and half dill dressing is delicious. Very disappointed today though - salad always overflowing off plate so you eat around the edges first. Today when I got more towards the center I found a pile of brown lettuce and a hard limp of what I think was once Swiss cheese, at least I hope that's what it was. When I took it back up to the counter I got dirty looks from 2 employees and the 3 weren't sure what to do. For $9 a salad I think I should at least not be given a fist full of rotten food hidden beneath a salad. The soup and sandwich my daughter ordered were both great-fresh homemade bread, great tomatoes although she took off the lettuce after seeing the salad. This restaurant is normally a terrific lunch spot so I don't know if there is new management or???

Great sandwiches, friendly and helpful service, rustic atmosphere and they have a patio. I liked this place a lot and will be back.

Terrible. Ordering doesnt make sense. You feel rushed in line if there is someone behind you. The directions arent clear. And the writing on the order sheet is so small. Also, the people behind the counter look absolutely miserable! And dont order the taco salad, i ate chips, sour cream and tomatoes for lunch.. Place has a lot of potential but it honestly is awful.

  • Violet V.

I tried this place 2 times. Once several years ago and did not enjoy it. I went back and I still didnt like it. I am not crazy about their dark cabin style decor and complicated ordering system. Why can't you just order what you want right away? Food is just ok and nothing special. I prefer Panera Bread and I used to like when Bear Rock Cafe used to be here at this location.

    (2)
  • Debi B.

Wow - what a waste of money! They have 3 chef mic's (microwaves) which they use constantly. They put the cheese on the precooked meat, mic it and put it on top of the bread that has been partially grilled. Partially, because they have TINY grill. If they can't handle it they shouldn't be doing it that way. Result was dry meat. Also ordered the soup - they put that in a bowl right away with croutons on top then you must wait for your sandwich - in our case that was a good 10 minutes +. Cold soup. Brought it back - and sure enough, into chef mic, croutons and all!!! For 3 sandwiches, 3 sodas and 1 soup it was $31.00!! We would rather have gone to the hot bar at Sendiks!

  • S. V.

I eat here at least once every 2-3 weeks because I work only a 2 minute walk away. It is very casual. I love their specialty sandwiches (the reuben and chicken: special #9, are my favorite) and if you are on a low carb diet (like I am "occasionally") they make omlettes all day. When I am cheating on my diet...I will have a piece of pie. The crust is awesomely sweet and flaky and I have yet to be disappointed.
