We stopped in here after our evening cruise of the Apostle Islands and were seated right away. Our service was a little slow but our waitress was manning 7 tables at once (and was doing a great job!). We really didn't mind the wait anyways. I got the BBQ burger and my husband got the whitefish platter. Both were very good. Again, we did have to wait; this really didn't bother us though. I guess if you're going to visit Bayfield, be okay with waiting...you should be anyways, this is the place to relax!

Well, my fiancée researched this place and it was a good deal. We both had the surf and turf. She had the trout and I had the whitefish. Our meals came out fast and I enjoyed our side dishes too. The soup was good as a starter but would have wished for a salad. The mixed vegetables were good but the portion was small. Afterwards, we walked around but the shops closed early for a Saturday evening.

The best fish fry in the world. Whitefish, trout, or northern it is crispy light and filling. Eat while overlooking the bay and watch the sailboats come and go. Tuesday night listen to music in the park from the patio. Great time and great place. Upscale sea fairing meal. Top it off with cool off the tap beer. Dance the night away.

Having only tried the fried fish - via the friday night fish fry last year and then fish and chips this year I can happily say it is quite excellent. Perfectly done, perfect breading - very minimal and the house made chips are really good. The coleslaw is much better than average as well. I would like to try something else but it's really hard to pass up perfectly done fresh fish from lake superior.

I am constantly baffled by what my dear Wisconsin friends consider good food. Pier Plaza served average bar food and barely average diner food. The view from the deck doesn't overlook superior, it overlooks the street and two other buildings which face Superior. The rice balls are simple, bland but not terrible. The antipasto is served warm, which seems to be a trend here and something people are used too...not me. The best part of dinner was the chicken and veggie soup, which was chocked full of chicken and flavor. The whitefish sandwich, brioled, was fresh but bland, presented on a plain white roll. Friendly service, but it doesn't make up for the boring, unimaginative food.

With a direct view of Lake Superior, and an architecturally beautiful façade, this place is worth the stop. The food will bring you back too. The two of us stopped for lunch after visiting the ice caves. The mushroom Swiss burger was complete with plenty of delicious mushrooms that were bound to the burger with melted Swiss on a sturdy bun. I had the daily special - pulled pork sandwich. No sauce was used and it was not needed. The flavor came from the combination of homemade coleslaw and spice rubbed pulled pork laid on the bun. Who knew that pulled pork didn't need sauce. The mandatory fries were perfectly fried and the service was friendly. Enjoy!

Good food, good service, very cheap beer. Got the fried trout, which was good. A 25 oz craft beer was 4.50! Very cheap and good.

The location is the main reason for the 4 stars....food is prb a 2. Had the whitefish sandwich (have to come here ever since hurricane hut closed...they had the best whitefish sammie EVER). Pretty much a bust at $10 sammie only. They must take the tail end of the filet they don't use for the meal and bread it because this thing was literally a millimeter thick. Boo. Great service and view of the docks though.

My husband and I sat outside on the scenic, water front, deck, on a beautiful fall day, and ate the most delicious meal ever. To die for onion rings, followed by tender, flakey white fish sandwiches. Yum! Our server was friendly, attentive and polite. As it was my husbands birthday, she surprised him with a huge ice cream sundae. Thanks Pier Plaza, for perfecting outdoor dining and locally caught cuisine.

This place is a must try for either dinner or lunch while in town. We had two dinners and one lunch here and were thrilled every time. In 6 meals, we ordered the fish and chips 4 times and the dinner special twice. If it is not obvious, order the freaking fish and chips! Excellent is all I can say, and we're sort of picky about our fish fries. And the cole slaw is some of the best I have ever had. Our first night, the special was a Greek pasta dish that was fantastic. My wife took a photo of her completely clean bowl and told me to post that to Yelp. On the second night, the special was a pork chop type dish with a corn relish. I was hesitant on this one as I almost never order pork chops in a restaurant but the waitress (Rosa) sold it and also mentioned "This is a good place to try the specials at." No doubt it is. This was a great dish and the relish really perfected the flavor profiles. They have a solid beer list and a nice bar area. The wine list is weak but typical for the area. In general, if you are a fancy wine drinker, you're going to have a tough go in Bayfield restaurants. Oh yeah, the view here is fantastic. If you have one night in Bayfield, eat here. If you have 3 nights, eat here twice. Last comment - Pier Plaza and The Pickled Herring Club are one in the same. The confusion here on Yelp may be from the credit card receipt which looks like this: PIER PLAZA ****Restaurant**** The Pickled Herring Club

This place is a do not miss when you pass through Bayfield! We visit regularly, and always stop at the Pier for lunch on the patio, complete with house-made strawberry daquiris, a crispy whitefish sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries, and an unbeatable view of the harbor. This place is family owned, and the owners can always be found waiting tables, visiting with guests, and otherwise working hard! The attached inn has clean and spacious accommodations as well. Make sure to splurge on one of the suites over the restaurant, with balconies overlooking the park and Lake Superior.

A must do on a Friday night. Excellent house breaded lake trout and whitefish caught right across the street (Lake Superior). Excellent bloody marys!

We've been coming to Apostle Islands for a few years now, and even though we've tried to branch out, we just keep coming back to the Pier Plaza Restaurant. They have great fresh fish, broiled, grilled, or fried, and lots of great local beers on tap. Their salads are fresh (for some reason, a LOT of Northern Wisconsin restaurants can't do this right. I want my lettuce fresh, crispy, and opaque), and their dressing was good. I couldn't eat the bread, but my picky aunt and uncle said that their breadsticks were also quite good. I had a Leinenkugel Honey Weiss, which is my preferred pairing with late summer lake trout, and it never fails to disappoint. The view is about as good as you're going to get in any Bayfield restaurant; you're basically a block from the water and cruise ship wharf.

Stopped in for lunch on a cold winter day. The chili was pretty good, fish wrap was better, fries great. $2.50 for a Swiss Miss powered, water-based hot chocolate?!? Seriously??

After 2 days of bar hopping and greasy appetizers, I was hungry for a healthy meal, in a relaxing atmosphere. The Pier was a great choice. My wife and I shared a delicious smoked trout salad and Mediterranean broiled Whitefish. It was perfectly prepared, our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. I noticed some other reviews complaining about the hostess or how a drink was described. Our hostess couldn't have been nicer. She seated us promptly and right by a big screen TV so we could watch the Badger game. And if a drink is tart and taste like Raspberry what more of a description do you need? By the way the Pecan Bourbon pie was the best pie I have ever had. Actually had the perfect hint of bourbon flavor. I eat out a lot, in many different cities around the country and this was the best restaurant I have been to in a long time.

Beautiful setting, right on the harbor. Big bar, again with lake view. Dining room seemed a little cramped, but the excellent service more than made up for this. Several folks in our party had burgers, which they said were good. The fish fry (lake trout and whitefish) was excellent. The fish was fresh, lightly battered, not at all greasy. Of the two, I prefer the whitefish. The coleslaw had way too much caraway seed. The french fries were ok. We did the smelt appetizer, which was excellent, in season now (late April). The pickled herring appetizer was also good. They had a number of good beers on tap. The wine list was very limited. Highly recommend. A bit pricey. There was a fairly large selection of pies on the dessert menu.

Meh...On Thursday Patio service was fab, as was the club sammich. Came back on Sat for dinner and it was a whole different ballgame. When I asked about tart raspberry lambic, he told me it was tart and tasted like raspberry. Uh, thanks? Food was ok. But service never really improved after his stunning beverage description.

When you're on vacation it's always hard to find good food at decent prices with a nice atmosphere. Hmmm, maybe that is not just when you're on vacation, I digress. The Pier Restaurant in Bayfield is one of the very few restaurants with outdoor seating and better yet, lake view seating! Their location and view are tops (thus the 2 stars) the food and service however, leave one thinking a picnic on a nearby bench might be a better choice. DO NOT try the veggie burger unless you like a thick, paste-like, tasteless something. I thought it was just me, but I had the displeasure of eating at the Pier more than once on our vacation and noticed others around me who made the same mistake. They moved the tasteless something to the side and began munching off their mate's plate. The single flat bread pizza is okay, but $10 is a bit steep for very little food. The service I am so sorry to say was slow and incredibly disorganized. Both trips to the Pier happen to fall in the middle of lunch rush and yet they had "seat yourself" posted. People were standing around tables waiting for "their spot" to open up. How unprofessional and embarrassing! I hope the Pier improves or more restaurant choices appear in the area soon. At least the views are beautiful :).

Second time at the Pier Plaza. Happy both times. The burgers quite good. Ribs too. Staff efficient. I'd go back.

Great variety of food. You can eat inside or out. We had a dog, so we ate out, and had a beautiful view of Lake Superior. They also have rooms, and the morning sunrise over Lake Superior is spectacular. You are also walking distance to everything in Bayfield. You can't go wrong.

We have been here 3 times this week and each time has been great! The service was fast and super friendly. The menu even satisfied our picky teenage girl. They also have the coldest beer on tap and in a bottle. They helped make up for rotten weather this week.

The food here was decent, but we had a strange experience trying to get a table which kind of ruined the meal for us. We put our name in and were told it would be 20-25 minutes and to wait at the bar. We went promptly to the bar to wait for our table and ordered drinks. After 25-30 minutes, we asked the hostess how much longer until our table was ready, and she responded by saying she had checked us off as no-shows a while ago because she searched for us at the bar and couldn't find us. We couldn't have been more than 10 feet from her the entire time! If she had forgotten what we looked like, okay...but she never even called our name. She just kept insisting she looked for us as if we were lying about being there the whole time, and then proceeded to seat another couple who came in after us claiming "well, they were waiting so it's going to be another few minutes." We were visiting from NYC and I don't think I've ever met with such a defensive and rude hostess who couldn't just admit their mistake and try to fix it. Definitely soured our experience there. Our waitress was wonderful though.
