Wondering? Having enjoyed the restaurant in Ashland we were happy when we learned one was going to open in Ironwood, Mi. It took years for it to open but when it did we were so happy! Then what happened it closed again last year and has not reopened, What is the problem? They advertise this location in the current South Shore Visitor which is no good as people traveling expect to find it on highway 2 in Ironwood, Mi. Be aware of this situation.

This is my favorite place to eat in town. Big servings and delicious food. The wait staff is fast and friendly and the food is always speedy as well. We get the cheese sauce with our chips every time. Yum! My husband and I split the arroz con pollo and it's a perfect amount for us.

What a find. Awesome salsa, made fresh, which is a great sign. The best guacamole and tacos I've had since leaving Las Vegas. This is some of the best Mexican food I've had, period.

We had the California burrito, chicken enchiladas, bean dip, and Texas margarita. Food was good.. Bean dip was a bit different from what I expected. It was like a baja sauce with beans on the bottom.. Good but different. Food came really quick! Server must've been having a bad day... Overall great option for Mexican food!

Pretty great food! Friendly atmosphere. A great place for lunch, because you get your food in an impressive amount of time. I bring all my family and friends here when visiting....and they love it too!

There is a whole lot of chaos in this restaurant. They really need a hostess, unless she or he was off for the night...then they really needed a stand in. When I walked in with my boo there were at least 8 people waiting for a table. The place was packed. I walked up to the hostess stand, but realized no one was going to ask us how many people we had, there was no list going. There were two servers and a bus boy. Every once in awhile one of them just popped up and asked who was next when a table opened up, then they sat people. After 20 minutes we noticed two tables opened up and no one was being seated. We kept waiting, and they just kept walking by. Tired of being ignored, we grabbed two menus ourselves and plopped down at a table. The service after that came fast. Chips and fresh salsa first, and we ordered beers right away that came lightening fast. Good prices too on the beers, $3.25 for a Modelo, $2.50 PBR. For food we went with the Choro Queso dip, fried chimichanga, and enchilada verdes. The dip was cheesy, I would have liked more chorizo, but after adding the green chili habanero hot sauce that I am in love with, I was content. My boyfriend thought his chimichanga was alright. There was mole sauce on it, which he's not a fan off, I enjoyed it. My enchilada verdes was way too salty. My whole face puckered up after the first bite. I went in for a second to see if it was just that bite. No, still salty. I told our server and he immediately took it away and offered to bring me something else. I just went with a soft shell beef taco. It came in less than 3 minutes, it was a hard shell taco. I just ate it. I have mixed feelings about this place. Probably one of the better spots for food in this town. The servers were really friendly and fast, but they need to be organized at the front desk. The food was decent, but could be better.

We have to go to El Dorado every time we visit Ashland. The places we have found in neighboring Duluth, MN just don't compare. El Dorado has tasty food, great prices, and extremely fast service. It can get very crowded and it is not a big restaurant so there is sometimes a wait. Love their chips and salsa, which they bring out right away and refill frequently.

Love it here. Very sad they closed their Ironwood location. But worth the drive. Chester is a phenomenal waiter food is very fast and delicious. Not too spicy but ask and they can add heat.

Food was pretty good, but service not great. Took long time to just take order and even longer to bring out good.

5 or 6 people around the area recommend this place to us when my brother and I where in town last week. Wow!! The tacos where so good! My brother is not a huge Mexican food fan and he loved it too! Great job guys! If I'm ever in the area again I'll be sure to stop in. Gracias Amigos!

As another reviewer already noted, if in Ashland, your choices for Mexican food are extremely limited. Fortunately, El Dorado can help fill that gap... However, do not expect "over the top" food here. The entrees are fairly standard and some of their sauces/toppings taste like they are literally "warmed from the can"...If pressed to give a sweeping generalization of their food, I would simply characterize it as "OK". But their customer service is exceptional and the overall atmosphere of the place is comforting. I would return here for: 1. their warm chips and salsa 2. their margarita drink specials 3. their customer service

Really liked El Dorado, but the one we ate at was in Ironwood, WI not Ashland, MI. I believe it's a second location for the same proprietor. Food, service and value was great. Ambiance only so-so, bot that's OK. So Mr. proprietor, please add a listing on Yelp for your new place in Ironwood (on Cloverland US-2 just west of Business US-2).

Very friendly staff, food for 4 people came out less then 10 minutes, ixtapa fajita was exceptional, inexpensive. Food quality can be compared to some of the better Mexican restaurants in twin cities.

El Dorado is by and far the best Mexican-American food I have ever had, especially for a town like Ashland! Being born and raised there, absolutely every time I come home I make it a must-have to eat there. The food has consistently been terrific, as is the service. I've eaten all over the menu, and would highly recommend their Chori Pollo (Chicken with chorizo sausage and white melted cheese), as well as any of their fajitas. I have never been let down, and am sure you won't be either!! Highly, highly recommend!

Not bad for Ashland. It's a nice alternative to the usual fast food fare in Ashland. Hot chips and salsa were delicious. Our dinners arrived within 10 minutes of ordering, which is great when you've got restless young kids. I ordered a combination plate that was so-so; would have been better had it not been completely drenched with sauce. My dining companion's fajitas were average, a little on the dry side. Friendly, attentive service an the huge margaritas looked great. I'd give the place another chance and just order something different.

Being the only sit-down Mexican restaurant in Ashland, it's pretty decent. We used to go there for margaritas, which were good. The food is also served promptly and in fairly large servings for a low price. It's not the biggest restaurant, but for being what it is, where it is, it serves its purpose.

Probably the best mexican food in Ashland (Taco John's is the competition). When I went the chips were stale, but the food was pretty good. Overall, worth going to, and fairly inexpensive.

What a GREAT addition to Ashland! El Dorado's food is FANTASTIC, their prices more than reasonable, and the service is fast as lightning :-D I have eaten here numerous times, and never regretted it. The only caveat is the lack of ample parking. Hence, I get takeout a lot more often than I go to sit down and eat. I highly recommend the chile rellenos & the shrimp chimichangas. I always leave filled to the brim & with extras for lunch the next day.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
