This place is fabulous! I've found it's pretty rare to find vegan comfort food, so I was pretty excited to find this place. Given the high expectations, I was not disappointed. I've been here quite a few times and each time it's hard to order anything other than breakfast. I've not had a bad meal yet, but their best items include: Breakfast Biscuit, Country Fried Burrito, Country Bumpkin, and Suns Over Seattle. Their biscuits are wonderful and they do an amazing job of making hard-to-find vegan versions of guilty pleasure food (for example, McWayward and Mac Daddy). Overall, if you're looking for comforting, "greasy," fried, home-style vegan food, this place is as good as it gets. Now that they've moved closer to my apartment I can't stop going there for dinner on my walks home from work...

As always OUT OF THIS WORLD! New location is beautiful and spacious. I'd like to recommend a dish, but I get something different every time I come, and have yet to have any ordering regrets! Also, to people who complained it's not healthy enough, there several *very* healthy options--but why get those; you can go to PCC for a quinoa bowl (or make it at home for that matter) when you could have waffles...or fried chiggen...or faux eggs benny...or vegan buffalo wings...I've gotta stop, I'm drooling...anyway, this place is a must for vegans and non-vegans alike!

The biscuits are boss. Make sure to get a side of ranch with everything for dipping and prepare yourself for the best coma of your life.

The food is pretty good, but I wish they had some soy alternatives. They also prefer large groups to come during slower times as it is a bit small.

Our meal at Wayward was really good. I had the chiggin and waffles, which was pretty great, and I really liked that breakfast was served all day.

SO DELICIOUS. I love coming here whenever I can to treat myself to some damn good food. So many tasty choices, it's hard to order just one... If you're vegan or vegetarian and love food, this place will knock your socks off! You need to try it!! Wayward is pretty much my favorite restaurants in Seattle.

We just went for breakfast last weekend at the new location and fell in love! The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious and healthy. We switched plates about half way and both dishes were amazing. The home fries are a must! We'll be going back many times...

Everything that I have tried has been excellent! I have not visit the new location; however, I will soon. I am just trying to figure out how they make everything tastes so good, and like real meat. I only wish that they will open another one in the southend reall soon, also perhaps Bellevue or Issaquah.

I LOVE WAYWARD CAFE!! I moved to Olympia, and now plan my trips "up north" around a meal at WAYWARD. The owners are the best, and run their business with a casual comfort and professionalism that is always so welcoming... not to mention that the food is DIVINE!!

This place was everything I expected & then some. Had to hit my the vegan joints & try different vegan foods. In Houston there is only a few full vegan restaurants. Others just have some vegan options. In the west coast my troubles are answered. Checked this place out for breakfast. Basically who menu is served all day. I like places like this. Dont have to wait till 11 to get a burger or entree or eat a breakfast burrito for dinner you know. Shits legit. So I opted for a half order of biscuits & gravy. Add tempeh & sold. The biscuits where damn good. Made in house. The gravy was mushroom based to pretty good stuff. Next I had the breakfast burrito which consisted of tofu scramble, spicy chorizo, and spinach wrapped up in flour tortilla. Served with salsa and home fries. Extremely good eats. Really makes me want to move to the west coast just so i can spoil myself with all this vegan goodness found here in Seattle. Good stuff, definitely worth a visit.

I'm so glad they relocated to this place; it's just so much more welcoming than the former location. Service was a little slow, but our server was friendly. We ordered the Tofuevos Rancheros and lost souls scramble. Although both were awesome, I prefered the lost souls scramble. The scrambles here were hands down the best vegan scrambles I have had; they were so rich and creamy, and I actually prefer these over egg scrambles. Aside from that, the steamed greens and fries were great as well. Please try the lost souls scramble! I've been to a couple vegan restaurants, and this would make top 3 on my list.

Vegan restaurants are a huge interest of mine. At one point I ran my own tiny vegan cafe, really just a few items I sold out of an existing ice cream shop. I've been vegan for fifteen years. My trip to Seattle revolved around a wedding, but I made some hungover friends trek over to Wayward after a night of heavy drinking The place looks cute and the staff were nice, but the place was slammed and our service was only so-so. We waited over twenty minutes for our food, which wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't been starving. My bottomless coffee sat empty because our server did not have time to refill it and so I grew a bit impatient. I ordered a biscuit dish, the country bumpkin. The gravy was plentiful and delicious, the biscuit was herby, crunchy, buttery. I have no complaints except my side of green were supposed to be garlicy and they didn't taste like anything was added to them. They were just steamed greens. I was glad to have them regardless, but I really wish they'd been covered in some visible garlic, as the description implied. My boyfriend got the Santa Fe Hash. The description made it seem like it would be potato hash, but it was much more like tofu hash, and that's not what he wanted. The seasoning was beyond abundant. It seemed way, way overspiced. Not in a hot, spicy way, in a bits of chunky powdered spices not dissolved in the food kinda way. Not the best, frankly. Dry and blah. We both ordered avocado on the side and it was pretty brown. I realize some people don't mind this, but just take a little paring knife and cut the brown out if I'm going to pay 2.00 for an avocado. Just sayin'. Our friend got the avocado toast and it looked great, except for the brown avocado and the lack of garlic on the "garlic" greens. I can't say this place was bad, but it certainly didn't leave me impressed and coordinating another visit within my short trip. So, three stars.

Tried the buffalo chiggen sub. It was a huge sub roll with a small piece of chiggen relative to the bread. It was a bit too spicy and very greasy. I'd give it a grade of B for effort and a C- for execution. My wife had the Waffle which she said was also just okay. Wouldn't order it again. We really wanted to love this place and will give it another try. They do have a very extensive menu so I hope we like it better next time. Our biggest compliment is the facility. Very nice and inviting from a look and feel standpoint. Our biggest complaint was the service. After he took out order we never saw the server again until it was time to pay the bill. Not once. No water refills, never a follow up on how our meal was or if we wanted anything else.

I'm being harsh with four stars, because this place is pretty cool. The atmosphere is chill and alternative, but lots of different people come to eat. I got a brown rice pancake and the tofuevos rancheros. If you go the pancake way, don't pass up the berry compote! I didn't need the syrup after the berry and butter, but used some anyway because it was real, unlike many places. I also really loved the guys working when I visited: very friendly, understanding, and approachable. So why 4 stars? Well, having had lots of huevo rancheros and lots of GF pancakes, I just didn't think these were the best. I've had better is all, so they don't getting a foaming-at-the-mouth review from me. But definitely check it out!

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served all day. As a vegetarian, trying to find something veggie on the menu at most places is like trying to find waldo. Here you have the opposite problem. The menu is extensive and it's difficult to choose since everything looks amazing. Our party ordered the BBQ burger, chicken parm, and scrambled tofu. Everything was delicious. The service was a little slow, which is understandable since the food likely takes a while to be prepared. It did take longer than expected for the server to request our drink and menu orders. So come here for the food and be prepared to relax. If the place looks somewhat busy, consider putting your drink order in as soon as you are seated.

Vegan daughter took me here for Father's Day. Excellent! FOOD: 4.0. - Tempeh Reuben sandwich: 4.0. Nice texture and great taste. - Sweet Potato Fries: 5.0. Added $1 to get these fries with the sandwich lunch. Outstanding. Ruffled coin cut. - Fried Chicken and Waffle: 4.5. Excellent waffle. SERVICE: 3.0. A bit slow. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Large and airy, yet not noisy.

Came here again with some friends to have breakfast/brunch. Wasn't too busy when we went, we were seated quickly but upstairs this time. Nice space upstairs with a good amount of tables. I got the Country Fried Steak.....I dont know how they make this vegan but it was quite delicious! Nice sized piece of "steak", crunchy, crispy, with delicious gravy on top, served with a curry tofu scramble and wonderful hashbrowns. Portion sizes are pretty big so come hungry! One of my friend's got The Farmer's Hash.....that looked good as well, nice & chunky hash with delicious gravy on top with some vegan cheese that comes with plenty of toast. She enjoyed it very much. My buddy, he got the Biscuit Mountain........it was a behemoth of a mountain!!!! I believe it comes with 3 biscuits, with the same country fried steak as mines but cut up into small chunks, the delicious gravy on top, all on a bed of spinach. Also served with hashbrowns too. He killed it and he loved every bite of it! Overall, a delicious time and we plan to keep coming back....especially to try more of their menu like the lunch or dinner options.

We came here on our way out of town and ahead of a big hike in Mt. Rainier National Park. We thought a big breakfast was fitting. And this definitely was a big breakfast. I had a cup of tea, which came with an extra small pot of water and one tea bag. My husband got the coffee (which was never refilled). He had the mexi biscuit breakfast and I had the potato cakes. The food was pretty average. The biscuit was really really dry, and the potato cake was decent. I was expecting more of a shredded potato that was crispy, whereas this was more like mashed together potatoes stuffed with a ton of daiya(?) cheese. The veggie patty was not for me (usually isn't), and the tempeh strips were dry. We needed a lot of water with our meal. Overall, I would probably pass on coming back. The food was too dry and needed something more, green or healthy-ish perhaps.

I really liked Wayward when they were in their old location and was excited to finally try the new version! Unfortunately it appears that they haven't quite pinned down the art of having wait service and the food I received was nothing like what I've had before. The restaurant was physically only at about half capacity, but service was seriously slow and impersonal. I'm okay with a wait if it's worth it, but seeing other tables (as in more than one) who were seated after me be taken care of before me really peeves me. I received my food well before my drink and my water glass was never refilled nor was I ever checked on to see how my visit was. I was disappointed I didn't get any more water as it would have gone fantastically with the piece of rubber they tried to pass off as steak, but it was probably for the best on their behalf. I really hate complaining to staff, but this time it was bad enough that I definitely would have if they had done their job and taken the time to check up on me. I ordered the country fried steak and "UGH" is all I have to say to that. Most kitchens will take a second to wipe the plate to complete the presentation - Wayward didn't. It seems so minor, but when everyone else does it properly places that don't stick out like a sore thumb...not to mention that when I moved my plate my hand found a lot of *something* on the bottom of the rim. That was definitely frown inducing! The steak was VERY dry and some parts were so tough I genuinely struggled to cut through it with my knife. The taste was made better by the country gravy, but there was no hiding the fact it was overdone and shouldn't have been served. It seems that the cook forgot that the menu said "seasoned tofu" because it really wasn't seasoned at all, I had to "fix" it with hot sauce. The hash browns were better than both the tofu and the steak, but were "okay" at best. The drink I ordered was pretty good, but when the word "mango" is in the description I do expect to taste it, which I didn't. After being finished and waiting for awhile I ended up flagging another employee down to ask for my check because my waiter was still nowhere to be found. This experience was so disappointing that all of the things I liked about the old location have been completely wiped out and I won't be returning.

Update on downgrade from 2 stars to 1: got a weird email from the owner stating that she couldn't understand why we didn't think the food was wonderful since they were awarded a cheesy "best brunch" award and everyone knows how much weight those carry, right?!? And the poor service must have been due to new staff because that doesn't happen otherwise. That's what a customer wants to hear: some other people like it so why don't you?! Weird but good to know that they are not interested in trying to actually resolve anything with their food or staff. Now I know to definitely not go back.

My first experience with a 100% vegan restaurant. It was a lot better than my expectations both in terms of food variety and quality and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff was super knowledgeable about all the food items and their recommendations were on point. We tried the Lumber Jack, French Toast and the Mexican Burger. All entrees were very good. Who knew fake eggs could taste so good! It's definitely worth going back for another try at other menu items.

Oh please jump in to my tummy delicious vegan food. This is the best vegan restaurant I have ever been to. We came on Mother's Day which was quite the wait but so worth it. For starters they have Rachel's Ginger Beer (from Pike Place) so that already won me over. I got an "omelette" and a gluten free pancake. Both were excellent. As a vegetarian with a gluten allergy menus can be pretty limiting at times. To have a whole page of selections to choose from was amazing. We went with 2 vegans and my husband is a carnivore with a dairy allergy. It worked so well for everyone, even Mr Carnivore loved his breakfast. This is one place where you really don't need to be a vegan, just come and enjoy awesome food.

Wanted to love this place, but truth is, its like a below average Dennys, with fake meat versions of all the normal Dennys food. And unfortunately the fake meat versions taste pretty bland, dry, and boring. The actual vegan foods are dull, monotonous and look like a failed home ec experiment. Not sure how this place ever lived up to a 4/5 stars review, maybe because all the vegans who are desperate for fake meat foods are secretly salivating for a burger and have nowhere else to go? The only upside is that the staff was real nice and coffee was good. But the kitchen needs a major overhaul.

I luuuurve wayward. Like seriously thiiiiiiiis much. I cannot extend my vowels enough to express it. Only problem is, when you find your favorite dish it is hard to branch out! For me that is the club sandwich. I also like that I can take my omnivorous bf here and he is always happy. Even when you order the heavier foods like burgers or pancakes, you leave feeling "clean" inside (I think) & not sickeningly full with dairy and animal protein. One thing is although I love the waffles, I wish that they were the belgian kind and not the pancake-batter-in-a-waffle-press kind. But that goes for most restaurants honestly.

A hungry Vegan's paradise! Big phat juicy plant-based burgers, hot crispy fresh-out-of-the-deep fryer french fries, really good coffee and Wild Mountain creamer (so hard to find) and believe it or not a really creamy vegan cheese cake. Great people watching too, as W.W.V. tends to attract an eccentric, animal loving crowd. My only wish is that the sweet pigs, cows, calves, goats, chickens, turkeys and all factory-farmed beings knew how hard we are trying as humans to stop the injustices done to them, while still trying to feed our faces. Thank you Wayward Vegan for making the fight so delicious.

Best vegan greasy spoon in Seattle! Try the Chiggen Parm or the Ex-Benedict. My husband and frequent this place and enjoy the new spacious location and cool staff.

Totally awesome vegan comfort food place!! The atmosphere is casual with an open/airy feel. Lots of natural sunlight now that they moved locations. Oh and I LOVE that they are closer to my home now :) My favorite go to item is the Country Bumpkin biscuit/gravy meal. All I can say is get here early for meal times because they usually have a wait!!

Love this place. LOVE IT! I am not vegan but I follow a somewhat vegetarian diet so I have no issues if meat is not present. Even if you are a meat eater. which you probably are, don't turn your nose up to this place. This has become my favorite brunch spot. I can not get enough of the "chicken" and waffles. I have always wanted to try this magical pairing but I can't remember the last time I ate chicken. When I saw this on the menu I was overjoyed. The result? YUMMY! I mean, I can't really discuss this any further because if I do I will start craving the dish and I can not get it right this moment. Okay, I'll do it. The waffle was massive, the "chicken" was a very close substitute, the butter tasted like regular butter, and the syrup was the syrup of my dreams. The menu covers all usual meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've only had breakfast but I want to check out dinner because there are salads, sandwiches, burgers, and I even saw filet mignon is an option. Please visit Wayward Vegan Cafe. You will survive one meal without animal products. Trust me.

What I love most about this place is the staff and plates of dressed animals hanging on the walls. And mimosas. I had the Tofuero Ranchero which was so good! My boyfriend had the chicken enchilada which was also pristine. They give pretty large portions which is awesome for a place that caters to vegans. Most times places like that make you break the bank but this place is super affordable just like any other cafe. Staff is super laid back and chill. Great atmosphere. I also really like how there's an upstairs. And mimosas.

Now I'm not vegan, but as a meat eater I am impressed by this place. The atmosphere Is very relaxed and casual and definitely a place to hang out at with friends and have a good time. My friend is vegan and he really likes the pancakes and their french fries. Our waitress war very nice and informative when we had questions about the menu. If you pass by the Roosevelt area this would be a nice place for breakfast OR Lunch.

I would do anything to eat the Potato Cakes everyday. Me and my husband love this place. His favorite is The Club. We exclude tempeh from whatever we order as we both dislike it. We are vegetarian (no fish or egg) so its hard to find a vegetarian or vegan place where we like the food. I wish it was in Seattle but Caviar delivers it with service charge so that is an option for us when my husband doesn't feel like driving. So far we have tried Chipotle Chicken Club and Farmer's Hash and we look forward to our upcoming visits to try new items from the menu.

This was my second vegan restaurant I've ever been to and the first was also in Seattle at a well known restaurant. Upon entering Wayward Cafe, it felt so warm, comfy, and inviting. It's pretty much like a place you can chill with friends at any time while filling your bellies with super yummy food. I was in a group of 5 people, 2 were from California (1 of these was pescatarian), 2 were from Olympia/Seattle but neither were vegan/veggie, and I'm from Tacoma and vegan for a little over 1yr. Nobody had anything to complain about with their food, at least 3 people said "Wow, this is pretty good!", and I pretty much died with excitement and happy taste buds. Even the non vegans liked their food! We pretty much had 3 people serving our table in a way. A waitress who was super nice, detailed, and actually listened, a guy who kept our water and water jug full, and a guy who brought out the food plus condiments of our choice. These people are so great at their job and gave amazing service! I ordered the Spirit Burger with potato salad as a side. I was shocked when they brought it out because it was such a great portion, not like the other place I went to in Seattle. Apparently they make the burger themselves which is so awesome, and it tasted so good! The horseradish really makes the burger spectacular. I did add ketchup but only because I'm addicted. I feel like every time I'm in Seattle I need to stop in here or even make a special trip...or six. I just wish someday they can make one in Tacoma!

I'm not vegan and thought the food was sooo good! I had a fake chicken sandwich with vegan cheese and it was delicious. The vegan cheese kinda has a nutty flavor. The fries on the side were cooked perfectly and really good. Next time, I'd like to try the entrees like country fried steak or lentil loaf. The only thing I'd love to see them offer is some sort of vegan mac and cheese! For dessert, they had a ton of different pies on the menu. I was hoping for a vegan ice cream/cake so didn't try the pie. But I guess pie is the new cupcake. As for price, maybe because we just had two entrees (and mine was a sandwich), our total bill was just $20. I was really surprised it was so inexpensive because our food was not cheap tasting by any means. Our service was great and everyone in the place was super nice. I like the sign on the door that says fur is not allowed. This new location has lots of light and is really nice. I was worried about parking but street parking (like directly across the street from the door) was really easy to find and free.

Okay I was already sold on the old location in university because VEGAN BREAKFAST What the what?!? All day, WHAT!?! The food is amazing!! I missed going out to breakfast being vegan and this was the first all vegan restaurant I had been to before! Mind=blown. At the old location you walked up to the counter, ordered, then grabbed it when it was ready! I was living a plant based dream, It couldn't get better than that! BUT THEN! THE NEW LOCATION!! I can hardly put into words how great it is! You wait to be seated and its on a whole other level! I mean it! This location has a second level upstairs (you see what I did there*wink*) I think another reviewer called it "swanky" and I have to agree!!! Been here daily for breakfast since they reopened! My omni mom has seen the light in this place! Hallelujah! I hear they have amazing lunchy items but good luck getting passed the breakfast menu! What are you doing? Stop reading my ridiculous review and get over there!!!

Been Spending Most Our Lives Livin' In A Vegan Paradise Simply put Wayward is a dream come true for any vegan that enjoys the bold savory flavors and rich and creamy textures usually associated with more expansive diets. Wayward makes eating animal free, delicious! I LOVE their buffalo chiggen sandwich, mexi-breakfast biscuit, philly vegan cheese steak sandwhich, almost meatball sub, literally EVERYTHING I have tried there is amazing. Outstanding service each and every time, year in and year out combined with a very reasonably priced menu and AWESOME hours of operation makes Wayward by far one of my favorite spots in Seattle to dine. Infinite gratitude to all the people that make Wayward Vegan Cafe happen.

Stopped in last week and was surprised to find such an expansive menu. We got the sampler plate plus two sandwiches. Way more food than we needed but not to worry - it made for great leftovers. Prompt service, friendly staff, good value, and very good food.

This place really deserves all the glorious reviews it has - the biscuit mountain alone is enough for me to give this a 5 star rating. We've been to the new place on NE 65th St already thrice in one week, and plan on making this our usual brunch spot in the weekends. We've tried their pancakes, burgers, entrees and appetizers and have always left satisfied. I loved their spirit bugger (fried pickles anyone?) and the fried mozzarella wedges. The menu is humongous - the most difficult part for me here is zeroing in on one menu item every time we come here. I wish they open one outlet on the East side for us vegetarians here!

Wayward serves the vegan equivalent of greasy diner food. That's a good thing. Many people want some indulgence in their diet occasionally whether they eat meat or not. As a vegan in Seattle who is easily able to eat a vegan diet that is healthier, more sustainable, and certainly more animal friendly than what the typical American eats, I, too, enjoy indulging in greasy not-so-healthy diner breakfasts occasionally. Wayward vegan cafe fulfills that niche. Just because I am a vegan who eats sustainable and ethical food every day, it doesn't mean I want to eat "healthy" food everyday. Reviewers like Amber N and Andrew H completely miss that point. In Seattle we have dozens of healthy restaurants that cater to vegetarians and vegans and offer numerous fresh vegetable-based dishes. Wayward is not trying to do what others have done. Wayward, for me, is instead attempting to be the Denny's of vegan breakfast. And that's ok. I want to eat that maybe once per month. I am grateful that veganism has come so far that we have these options available that allow us to always maintain our more animal-friendly way of eating while occasionally straying from the typical healthy nature of our eating.

Located just a hop, skip, and a jump (or casual walk) away from Greenlake, this vegan cafe offers multiple options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I found myself lusting over the menu after a hot sunny run at the lake, in dire need of some refuel. Fun environment, friendly and quirky staff, and CLEAN. Handful of gluten free options too, which I ended up choosing from. Perfect spot to stuff your face after you burn a hole in your gut from exercise at the lake.

So we went to this vegan restaurant hoping to get some super clean fresh salads. NOPE! 4 salads on the menu, EVERY SINGLE ONE covered in fake meat and cheese. Literally everything on the menu was a fake meat, cheese, or egg version of some other restaurant food. If we went to a restaurant and saw this menu with REAL meats on it, I would count it as one of the least healthy places I could possibly eat. And thus is the crux of my problem with veganism. Vegetarians tend to behave like its much more of a health centric lifestyle change while VEGANS are largely political, transitory, and really REALLY want to eat a typical diet full of the nasty luxury that animal abuse affords them. So they fake it. Not ALL vegans mind you but most of them around here. I'm sure people like my friends who are vegans treat processed faux meat like birthday cake (something special on occasion) but around here they're all mostly political alterna-clasts desperate for some animal flesh. You want to be a vegan restaurant? GREAT! Take vegetables, grill them, make them delicious, serve them. Make some gourmet salads and stuffed peppers. Make everything you serve the cleanest most tasty ideal of human potential minus murder and I will eat the shit out of it. Serve me shitty diner food minus all the tasty animal flesh? Pass.

Wayward Café has been a regular spot for my family since we moved to the Seattle area. We were customers at their previous location and we are glad that they have a new bigger location and are so successful. They're food is amazing and delicious, they really care, the dishes are really creative and better than the fast food versions. The staff is really open to substitutions and there is a whole page of gluten free items on the menu. I feel really bad when I order this because I don't want to be a bother but sometimes I order the chicken parm sandwich with mozzarella wedges inside the sandwich, so so good! When my boyfriend and I didn't have a kitchen Wayward Café was one of the places we went to so we could get a hearty meal. My family can recognize staff that has worked at Wayward for years and there are regular customers too. I totally recommend Wayward Café, a definite must visit place in Seattle.

Some of the burgers are tasty and I love the pita. Some other 'faux' meat dishes like the cheese steak - just God awful using some kind of spongy mess to emulate the steak. I find you have to be very careful what you order here. Could be tasty or could be you'll be apologizing to your friends for the restaurant's strange tasting creations the rest of the evening, like I have had to do now on 3 separate occasions. Lesson learned - buyer Beware!

I love this place. 100% vegan fare that is absolutely and completely unhealthy. If you are looking for a boring kale salad and some fresh juice, you obviously should go somewhere else and not proceed to give this place a bad review because it didn't meet your expectations. If, however, you want a delicious bomb of comfort food and cheesy fried things, go here !

My hubby and I ate here their was a bit of a wait to get seated and it was warm inside. We were hoping to escape the heat and sit inside a cool restaurant. I had the chicken and waffles. Which was excellent. I am not vegan or vegetarian but they nailed the chicken. The waffle was not as lite and airy as a non vegan waffle is. My husband had the Sante fe hash. Which was good but very spicy. The reason I didn't give four stars is it took a long time for the food to come out. Lastly, some of the wait staff need to wash their aprons more then once year. As a former server I think keeping your uniform and or apron clean is important. I would come back again maybe on a fall day.

After Wayward Vegan Cafe moved to this new location, I was eager to see the new style of dining experience. At first it seemed a good transition from the old method of going up and getting your order in at the kitchen, but after that everything seemed to go down hill. I used to love their steak sandwich and other offerings from their previous location, but when I got my order, I hardly recognized the dish that was given to me. My drink order was completely forgotten, and they had to come back and ask me what it was. I saw a guest sitting at the bar area with the same order I placed only minutes before but with much more food and better presentation. Did he order something special or did I not speak the local pass phrases to get the good version of what I ordered? The slow service, decline in food since moving to the new location and poor floor management will not earn my return visit. It seems like the transition could use a bit more work, especially focusing on server staff performance, bussing and seating.

My husband and I visited Seattle for our anniversary, and we ended up eating here twice it was so good! The menu is extensive and has so many delicious looking options it's hard to choose! The service is extremely friendly and welcoming, and was great both times we ate here. The first time we were the first customers, and the second time it was quite busy, but the service was excellent regardless of the amount of customers. The first time we came we had breakfast. I ordered the breakfast burger and it was totally amazing. My husband had the Suns Over Seattle, which was basically a vegan Moons over my Hammy from Dennys. Everything was excellent, and we knew we would end up coming back just because of the sheer amount of options! The second time we had lunch. I ordered the French Dip, which is my favorite sandwich so I was very excited! My husband ordered his favorite, the Reuben, to see how it stacked up to other vegan Reubens. I ordered my sandwich with a side salad instead of fries, and I'm glad I did because the sandwich was HUGE! It was also completely delicious. I don't know how they get that au jus to taste so much like the real thing, but it was impressive. My husband enjoyed his Reuben as well, although I can't vouch for it because I didn't try it (my own sandwich was too huge!). All in all this place is an absolute MUST if you are veg in Seattle! Even if you aren't, you will not be disappointed.

So let me start with 2 things: 1. I am not a Vegan. I love me some meat. I've considered learning how to bowhunt just so I can get the freshest meat ever. So this being a Vegan cafe made it low on my list of restaurants to try. 2. I work for Caviar, and I have only had Wayward Vegan via delivery. I'm sure it's great in person since it's so good in delivery. Now, I just want to tell everyone including the carnivores and vegans that you should come here for breakfast lunch and dinner! Wayward Vegan is not a niche restaurant for hippies to eat breakfast at. I would put their breakfast on par with Beth's Cafe and Patty's Egg Nest. for breakfast I got the Hillbilly, and I almost forgot that I was eating tofu and tempeh. Actually I did forget, it is that good. And I recommend getting a side of gravy as well. Because it's super tasty. Also, the fried potatoes that come with this are nearly perfect. Golden brown, crunchy, and lightly salted. I also had the BBQ Burger. I don't know if it's against the Vegan code to have "meat" items taste like meat, but this burger taster like the real deal. The tempeh bacon is not my favorite, but it is still tasty. People, do yourselves a favor and go here. Or order it for delivery. I guarantee you'll do it again.

I have been going to Wayward since it was tucked away on Roosevelt back in 2005 or so and have always liked it, but since Tami and Colin took over it has become my favorite restaurant ever. After being vegan for 14 years, I've gotten *real* tired of restaurants thinking vegan = raw-kale and quinoa-loving health freak. I'm vegan for the animals, and the greasy (vegan) cheese covered comfort food that Wayward has is what I have been craving for over a decade. Watching the menu evolve as they experiment has been so much fun. Where else can you get vegan omelettes and fried mozzarella wedges? Although I live in Texas now, every time I come back to Seattle I bee-line it to Wayward. Can't wait to see what they come up with in the new location!

Based on all the rave reviews I was really excited to try out this place but it turned out to be out one of the worst experiences ever. Really disgusting, bland food. But maybe that's a personal preference since a lot of other vegans seem to like rubbery fake meat substitutes but I would have preferred fresh ingredients as well as some flavoring. A lot of comparisons to Denny's which is EXTREMELY accurate. But besides the gross food what really hacked me off was the TERRIBLE service. Waiting for a table for 40 minutes when multiple other parties of the same size came after you is outrageous. All our waiters never delivered our coffee and drinks until more than halfway through our meal, never got refills on our water, and we were given really rude responses when we politely asked why we hadn't gotten waters after waiting at our tables with no menus for like 15 minutes. Really boring, bland, and terrible food, passive aggressive and rude staff, awful experience NEVER COMING BACK and definitely telling anyone who will listen not to either.

Biscuits and gravy... so damn good! Who knew vegan food could taste good?!?

This is the place to go if you are attempting to convert a carnivore. The spirit burger is one of the best foods I have ever consumed. Yum yum.

My boyfriend and I love this cafe! It's not just good vegan food, it's good food. He really likes the bandito omelet, but it's all great and there are so many things to choose from. We can't wait to visit the new location!

I am very disappointed with this place, I've had it bookmarked for a while now, really wanted to love it, and finally had the chance to try it for the first and definitely the last time. I am a vegetarian and was expecting lots of veggies, but no, almost everything is covered in grease, oil, and deep fried. I ordered what I thought seemed like the healthiest breakfast option, an avocado toast, but there was barely any avocado, only in the center of a soggy white bread which seemed to be soaked in some oil. The side of veggies was steamed, soggy kale leaves with no flavor, which would of tasted and looked much better fresh. The presentation is very disappointing, as soon as I got my plate, I lost my appetite. This place is a knock off Denny's with meat substitutes. Denny's is probably healthier though. So if you want healthy, whole food with lots of color and veggie options, do not come here. If you want Denny's but don't eat meat, you will love this!

awesome vegan diner with great service... we had biscuits and gravy, hash browns, bfast sandwich, pancakes, and home fries. Good value. Will def come back. Was a bit busy when ww had brunch on sat, but it only took 10 mins to get seated.

I was a little disappointed. Now the staff was kind. It was very busy and seems popular. But I was not happy with my waffle. Lacked flavor. However the chiggen was amazing My boyfriend got the fettuccine Alfredo and it was amazing. I got my order to go and got no bag to put my food in...plus no forks so my boyfriend had to walk back and get us some. I like veggie grill better honestly. Buuuuut I definitely would come back and give it another chance.

Great breakfast and food. Be sure to try their scrambles for breakfast. For lunch or dinner their burgers are great and the cheese sticks are a must have. A great place for vegetarians, vegans, and non vegans.

I routinely head up the Ave to the Wayward Cafe for lunch and it's one of my absolute favorite veg places in the city, however, I have only tried one dish - the Smoky Provolony sandwich. It is so good I literally have not tried anything else because if I know I'm going to the cafe, I crave that damn sandwich. They have such en extensive menu - one of these days I will try something else. ;) In addition, it seems like the kind of place where the employees might be rude hipsters (sorry for the stereotype but I've experienced it on multiple occasions at other places), but that is not the case here. Every time I've been to the cafe the staff is friendly and welcoming. I very much appreciate this because rude service tarnishes the whole feeling of a restaurant. I'm looking forward to checking them out at their new location!

The new location in a word: Swank. In three words: Swank. Spacious. Bright. The Wayward for breakfast, yay! Awhile back when they updated their menu, I made a point to stray from my favorites (Biscuits Minimus, Lost Souls scramble and Very Veggie omelet -- maybe with a side of steamed greens and a cinnamon roll) and try new items. Every time we went, I ordered something new until I'd tried just about everything that would fit in my belly (the menu includes some very big, hearty dishes). It's great to have a place you can trust to experiment. I can now report: It's all good. In the new location, the Wayward has lost its edgy, self-serve diner-ness and added servers (nice, friendly!). We're already planning to bring more family and friends here -- space will accommodate -- and I can see us coming more often for dinner. Gosh, nostalgia: I remember two locations ago my first meal at the Wayward. My mother-in-law actually found and suggested it. I had no idea such a place existed -- an all vegan breakfast? The location was, well, rustic, but I was in awe of the menu. Vegan biscuits and gravy?! Wow! Newly vegan, I was a little intimidated (don't fear the vegan!) but totally delighted. Then Wayward moved just south of U-District, to vegan-ville (Vegan Haven, Pizza Pi, Araya Thai), it became our go-to breakfast home. We started to run into friends here -- impromptu meet-ups. The new location -- still not far from Vegan Haven -- invites more people. It's bigger, brighter and less of a nook. But you can still order anything you want off the menu with confidence. Fantastic! The future is vegan.

I've come to Wayward at least 3 times a month for the past 2 1/2 years, so you could definitely say I'm a regular. The food is great - some days I want something really greasy and I can get that, other days I want something a bit more light and I can get that too. The best part is how nice the staff are. Laura and one other girl (blonde with a pixie cut and septum piercing, sorry I don't remember your name!) are always awesome and super friendly. Wayward is a must-eat for any Seattle vegan!

I've only been here twice and I'm already in love. I recently became vegan and the hardest thing about it is finding what you can and can't eat at restaurants. That's why I'm so thankful for wayward! Not only is the food great, but so is the staff! There is a server there named Dee Dee who is exceptionally generous and genuine as well as very helpful. I definitely see myself becoming a regular!

Diner food is my favorite. I love fried foods, covered in grease and fat, I've always adored it. Once I went vegan, though, it wasn't as easy to get my fix of chicken fried steak, gravy, huge burgers, and all sorts of deep-fried goodness. So I've been to many, in multiple states, trying to sate my cravings. Wayward Cafe, by leaps and bounds, has been able to do so like dozens of other restaurants can not. From their fried artichokes to mozzarella sticks, the burgers, the greens, and southern fried chicken, the pies. This place has taken vegan diner food to a new level, with not only an expansive menu, but also with exceptional service and consistent values-based operation. I cannot recommend Wayward Vegan Cafe enough, my only complaint is that I've moved out of the state and haven't been able to go in 8 months. Soon enough, the deep fryer calls my name.

Mediocre and bland food. I had their "Philly" sandwich which was mostly chunks of Seitan. It was supposed to have mushrooms, peppers and onions. I found one mushroom, one piece of green pepper and a couple of small pieces of onion. My wife had Fettucine which was bland also and a side of biscuits and gravy . Biscuits were dry and there was not enough gravy to help.

Was excited to eat here today. The gf is veggie and had been trying to take me here for awhile. There was a 15 min wait so we went across the street to Bus Stop espresso for caffeine. Walk back into wayward with our coffees and get seated up stairs. First thing the server said to us was they don't allow outside food or beverage. What?! We just waited 15 min to eat here and went to grab a coffee, would have been nice if you offered coffee to us, I thought. Server told us he would check with the owner to see if it's ok. He returned telling us it was not ok if the drinks had milk, not wanting to lie and now slightly upset I asked if he was seriously kicking us out due to milk in our coffee and he said yes. Before leaving I talked with the owner, who lied and said the health department makes the rule...and since their ethical vegans they won't allow milk on the premises. ok then you should have signs saying that and should not have seated us in the first place. People here are rude and we won't be going back!!!!

Visited Wayward Cafe with my non-vegan hubby today and LOVE LOVE LOVED it. The staff were super friendly, helpful and nice and they had a TON of gluten-free options. HOORAY for vegan + GF options that make your taste buds dance with glee! I noticed that I was starting to eat more slowly as the food on my plate disappeared because I didn't want the meal to end. Can't remember the last time I did that.. Tried their new Ginger Beer Mule and it was a fantastic, refreshing addition to our meal. I'm in love with this place and can't wait to come back.

Vegan/vegetarian HAVEN! Soooo many choices, and everything (except for the "filet mignon") is delicious! This is our go-to place when we don't want to take a risk - when we just want good food. Staff is super friendly as well! Love all around.

Three words: barbecue bacon burger. Everything else is great, don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of the Sunshine omelette, among other items. But that burger is incredible! I always want to try new things on the menu, but sometimes it's tempting to just get the same thing over and over. If you're from the Puget Sound area and you want to make your out-of-state veg friends jealous, bring them here. And now they're a 10 minute walk from my place! What could be better?

I have been vegan for 9 years and this is one of my absolute favorite vegan restaurants I have ever been to. I have always felt like when I walked into Wayward that I have come to a sanctuary from the outside world. I love patronizing a vegan restaurant that is run and owned by vegans who have animal rights in their mind, and are not just capitalizing on some foodie trend. There is heart and soul in the intent and the quality of the food and service found here. The staff is always super friendly, cheerful and accommodating. I often feel whenever I see them that I am visiting old friends. The food is beyond magnificent. The buffalo chiggen sub is my go-to vice, but their breakfast food is out of this world. To be able to have a place nearby where I can go at 7:30pm, as a vegan, and get coffee and delicious french toast, like I used to back in high school before I went vegan, warms my heart and makes me feel like I'm back home. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I am happy for all the success they are sure to have in their new location, and I'm glad that a restaurant like Wayward exists so that I can have a place to call my home away from home.

With the new location, Wayward upped their game, but still remain my favorite place to eat in Seattle. The new space is sunny and bright, and with added table service feels much more like a proper sit-down restaurant. The owners are unbelievably friendly and have really put their hearts into making it the best it can possibly be, and it shows. Menu changes every so often, but staples like the Warlock (best. sandwich. ever), the very veggie omelet, and the classic biscuits in gravy keep me coming back.

Wayward has been one of my favorite vegan places to eat for many years and now at their new location - it got even better! In addition to a plethora of yummy food to choose from (The Steak Dip and Philly are my current top 2), the new location is awesome - brighter, not as cramped feeling, plenty of new faces - I just need to get used to not having to bus my own table or get my own coffee!

Seriously NOT good food and neither was the service. I was reassured though by the knowledge that our server is new, three days new, so forgiveness is given there. As for the food, not sure I will come again but I have been told their breakfast is fantastic.

Get your 'everything you miss when going vegan' fix here! Biscuits and gravy are out of this world and you can't miss the cinnamon rolls they have on the weekends. New location is 1000x better than old one. Great staff and even better food!

My husband said Wayward's burger is the best burger he ever had, and he is not a vegan/vegetarian. Every single thing I have tried on their menu is the best tasting version of that dish I have ever had, and I am a vegan. If you have not been to Wayward yet, get there - you're missing out! They also have delivery through Caviar delivery service. There food is just as good togo! EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE. FIVE STARS!

Of course I have to travel to Seattle to find a vegan joint that's worth its weight in tofu. Compared to the cavalier attitude and poor quality of Brooklyn's now closed Foodswings (good riddance) and the foufou french chic of Montreal's overpriced Aux Vivres, WAYWARD offers a good example of what a vegan resto should be. Good food, good atmosphere, chill clientele and wide menu variety. Im a bloodmouth after abandoning my veganism and Ill still back this place hard.

I always used to take my vegan friends here when they visited me, but this place is also great if you like to eat by yourself with a good book. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is low key. This place turned me on to a lot of healthy food that I never liked before - seiten, steamed kale, tofu. Everything is so hearty and flavorful! Plus bottomless coffee. The Country Bumpkin is my favorite dish here.

This place is amazing! I first visited at the old University location and loved it. Its even nicer at the new location. It's an open foor plan, clean, bright, and the waitstaff are great. DeeDee is so nice and makes sure to stop and chat a bit with me everytime I am there. It is my new favorite restaurant in Seattle. The prices are very reasonable and the food is fantastic. I am planning on trying everything on the menu, but I haven't had a bad thing so far. I do have to sing the praises of the Warlock sandwich.... so hard not to get it everytime. I definitely encourageeveryone, even those weary of Vegan food to visit, your taste buds will thank you!

This place is and will always be, my go-to place in Seattle for Vegan food. They can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Their new location is considerably larger than the University location and now has table service...awesome place!

This place was fine. We ordered the farmer's hash, a Mexican hash, a side of garlic greens, and the chicken with waffles. All of this was designed to share between three people. The farmer's hash was good. The gravy plus vegan sausage helped to make my morning. The Mexican plate fared less well. It should have had more of a kick to it? It's difficult to say what exactly went wrong here. The chicken and waffles were good. The greens were soggy and unappetizing. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that the meal was saved by either a) gravy or b) fried stuff. In my book, that doesn't make for a repeat visit.

Honestly I'm like a little kid in Candy store when I step into this place! Food, service an location are on point! I have No favorite menu item because they're all pretty darn yummy! My partner is non veg an he enjoys tagging along:)

I ordered the gluten-free BBQ chiggen wrap and it was not really that great. It said wrap so I was expecting a wrap (like the ones at Veggie Grill) but it came in a greasy cooked tortilla so it was more like a taco. It was not what I was expecting at all and the BBQ sauce was way over seasoned. The fries were also very bland. My boyfriend got the club and really enjoyed it but I personally won't buy from here again. I'll just stick with my Veggie Grill. :)

Wow! I've always recommended Wayward Cafe before they moved to their new location, and here I am recommending them again. The new location is AMAZING! They've switched to a full service restaurant, so no more ordering at the counter. I used to have to say "it's a hole in the wall, but the food is amazing" and now I can say "the food is amazing and the restaurant is amazing!" Go enjoy some fantastic vegan food in a fantastic vegan restaurant with awesome owners and wonderful staff!
