I order some food after 24 hour fitness. I order tom yum soup, evil jungle and pad kee Mao to go. They didn't pack it properly and the bag had a hole on the bottom which the liquid from the food leaked onto my car. Horrible night to be cleaning the car. The food was okay. It didn't taste authentic. I saw the cook was a Korean women. The food didn't have flavor of a Thai restaurant.

Vatsana recently changed ownership. My wife and went back for the first time since the change and boy were we disappointed. We ordered the chicken phad thai and the food was very lackluster. It tasted watered down, as though they hadn't used enough spices for the amount of noodles. After years of coming here, we won't be coming back. Very disappointed.

This place used to be a big disappointment. The people were rude, the food was mediocre and going there was more of an ordeal than it was worth. Well, they now have a new owner(manager? I'm not sure) and she has completely turned this place around! The people working there are all friendly and helpful, and the owner is wonderful. Their food is much better than it was before, and the service is fantastic! Since this place is practically across the street from our apartment, I'm pretty stoked.

This place is pretty consistently good. They have great pad thai, swimming rama and tom kah. The service is friendly, fast and takeout is just as good as eat in. A bit overpriced for a place that isn't a sit-down type restaurant, but it's a regular for me since It's close to my place.

The staff has definitely stepped it up since the change in management and they are a pleasure. The food is pretty good! If I am in the mood to not cook, this is definitely a restaurant that will be added back on to my go to menu. They are perfect for what they are, which is a quicker sit-down/to go Americanized Thai restaurant. Three stars for the food, which is pretty decent, and four stars for the staff, which has stepped it up.

This used to be my favorite Thai food place when vatsana was running it, but now the food is dry and its not good. I'm really sad that this is no longer a good Thai food place sense I live so close to the restaurant. I'm not impressed with the new owners, I think that the woman is rude and not very friendly. I don't even go to toshi's because its run by the same person. Very sad, ill be looking for a new Thai food restaurant.

Will not be returning. I thought I'd like this place. The ambiance if this place is super cute. The servers and cooks are Thai, so I'm glad it's not "pan-asian". I ordered a few dishes to go Phad Thai and some dish quickly picked off the menu. I'm really picking with my Phad Thai and it was okay. I've had better and I've had much worst. The other dish, was watery and oily and the beef wasn't tender but rough and chewy. Then I wondered to myself "is this beef?" I appreciate the fast service but I don't really appreciate the food. NEXT....

The service was really good...seems like a family business and they were really sweet. I ordered the peanut noodle dish and it was fantastic....and gluten-free. I tasted some coconut milk in it which added a great flavor. I asked for 0 spice on a scale of 1-10 because I know these places always still add spice...and they did. It was at what I'd consider a 3...but still very tasty. There was not very much meat in the dish...more veggies. If you are a big meat-eater like my husband you'd probably want to ask for extra meat. But overall I really loved it. I got take-out, but the inside was very clean. It's small and cozy.

We just moved in to the area so we were excited to find a Thai restaurant close by. We ordered the sampler platter with spring rolls and wontons. The cabbage in the roll was wet and had no taste but the wontons were ok. We also ordered the evil jungle noodles which had a great flavor but were way too greasy and also the spicy fried chicken which was overcooked and dry. I think we might have to keep heading I to Seattle to get our hands on good Thai food.

Sadly, there is no "zero star" rating--else I'd select that... My wife and I were very excited to find a Thai place in our new neighborhood, and our first few visits were adequate. Later, we noticed the portion sizes getting smaller and smaller. Eventually, we were paying 10$+ for an entree that was only slightly larger than an appetizer at most places. Additionally, we received undercooked food, and poor service. On one occasion we even witnessed someone from the kitchen spouting racist comments at a customer who complained that their food wasn't so great. "Black people are rude like that. Black people don't know anything about food" We have not returned since, and discourage everyone who mentions the place from returning. I don't know how they stay in business, honestly. The place is nearly empty every time I walk by. Long and short of it...it's worth a drive to find another Thai place if you live in the Westwood area.

I don't know what happen to this place but its not good. This use to be what I would call Vietnamese Thai. Sauces were light and used sparingly, the peanut sauce was more fruit and peanut and the curries were light and full of flavor. Now under NEW MANAGEMENT the place has gone to the dogs. I ordered my favorite fresh rolls and it would barely stay wrapped together and the peanut sauce was an oily think mess of some'em. Their yellow curry rice could have been used as a brick door stop it had so much sauce in it. What a disappointment. I've never rated a place so low, but this is very deserving. The new management is rude and pushy. Good Luck.

I'm not a Thai food expert (whatsoever), but I wanted something I could take home and this was nearby and seemed easy, yet adventerous enough... I walked in and told the woman (I think the owner or co-owner) that I needed lots of help deciding what to get. She spent a few minutes offering several suggestions (I shot them down for various reasons, such as "I'm not a huge vegetable person" and "Ooh, I don't think I'm in the mood for fried meat"). We finally decided on the pad skeew, which is totally sweet, not spicy, and comes with delicious broccoli, a large portion of grilled chicken, and huge egg (square-ish) noodles. I sat down with some ice water she offered, and literally before I could send out TWO TEXT MESSAGES, the food was ready in a perfect little to-go container, which by the way, did not spill anywhere in my car! Whooo hooooo~!!! Plus, I had some leftovers for my roommate, and he said it was the best Thai food he had ever had. Definitely recommend!

VERY unprofessional and unfriendlly. I mean, the waitress was like a vulture (literally hovering feet away, no joke). The food was slapdash and unflavorful. I ordered a 5 Phad Thai (spiciest) and it tasted like a 1 -- maybe. The calamari looked like it was scooped from a super-cheap can and warmed. I love thai and most all thai places, but do yourself a favor and forget about this place. I have.

We live right by here and have gone about 6 times. It's ok Thai food but the service is what's really lacking. Too bad there's no other Thai place nearby. :(

Had takeout from Vatsana last night. It was tasty. We had phad thai and something else (I'll have to ask my gf what the name is. all I know is that it was dark in color and really good) The other thing I can say is that they're inexpensive! For a dinner for two and leftovers, it was only $20. Next stop, I'll try dining in their restaurant!............stay tuned.

Great food. I've been coming here for over five years and they have always been consistent and friendly. The Beef Pad Seu, Chicken Panang and Evil Noodles are really good. Nice decor and a variety of drink and food specials.

  • Pretty S.

I love the food! Only gave it 4 stars b/c it leans towards the upper end of the price scale when weighed against the amount of food as far as Vietnamese food goes. Again, their food is delish and if nothing else - a definite 'must try'!

This is a hard review for me...sometimes I experience pretty good Thai here, then other times not so much. My dinner last night was one of the not so much occassions. Pineapple Fried Rice tasted like it was run through a dishwasher and I was really disappointed. Harsh I know. USUALLY it's alright. I'll go again because of the usually factor. And, we all have off days! Pricing is fair, service is really quick!

I go to Vatsana's every few months for one thing, the Pineapple Coconut Curry with beef. it's absolutely delicious!!! its the sauce that does it! if you like alittle spice, I recommend going with 3 stars for hotness. Everything is extremely fresh and they always have great service. Vatsana has a very pleasant dining room that is perfect dinning in after shopping or picking up to go. I definitely recommend for lunch or takeout.

The food is mediocre at best. I had to throw out half of my order because it was not edible. I should have just driven a little further and gone to Buddha Ruksa!!!

Have tried this place 3 times in 3 years & won't try again. Prices are way too much for what I expect. Poor presentation. No warmth. Prefer BangBar.

Decent Thai food. some of the noodle dishes don't work, but the curry is pretty good. I always get the Pineapple Curry, it's tasty. They do have a tasty and amusingly named dish called Evil Jungle Noodle. We eat there fairly regularly, and generally enjoy the food. Good decor for eating, we usually get it for take-away.

  • Tina M.

The food here taste horrible. Pad see ew noodles taste just so weird n broccoli was black in the middle like it's rotten. Maybe that's y it tasted bad. Also pad Thai is just too plain n ketchup taste than using tamarind sauce. Service is very slow..when you place a order the owner always says 5 min. And I know its longer than that so I give them at least 30mins. And guess what its not even done so had to wait longer. Overall worst Thai restaurant ever.

    (1)
  • Tim L.

Decent Thai restaurant, although I find the prices to be higher than comparable, more flavorful Thai restaurants in the area. West Seattle Blog says they were busted for serving drinks to underaged folks, that's not good. I'd say, if you're in a pinch for a quick lunch, Vatsana is fine, but I'd rather spend my money next door at the teriyaki joint, where food will be plentiful and I'll have a couple left over dollars.

  • Alyson L.

Could be better. They use the 5 star spice level rating thingy. 4 stars was enough to give me a runny nose; I suspect the 5 star would make me sweat a little and that is exactly how it should be in my "book". I would love to give more stars for the appetizers as their crab delights and itty bitty egg rolls are delicious, but they are stingy with the sauce. Really stingy. When we go here for "business lunches" we usually order the Evil Jungle Noodle, Prig Khing and Phad Seew. Typically they are at least yummy....Last night my Evil Jungle Noodle was nowhere near evil enough nor did it have the ingredients it should. There were about 4 or 5 chunks of chicken, one 1 inch strip of bell pepper, no carrots or snow peas (as in the description). Tres disappointing.

  • S K.

I only go here since I haven't found a better thai place around. Pad Siew is ok, but not the best and sometimes the noodles have been really overcooked. Red curry on take out has some dirt tasting stuff (spices) on the bottom of the container - yuck. I love Thai food and I am always hoping this place would be better since it is close.

  • Meghan M.

Evil jungle noodles!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good service, they are so sweet, fast pick up for to go orders. Cute little place.

  • Tracey H.

Needed some take out as we had just moved and hadn't unpacked dishes or silverware and decided to go with Vatsana as is was nearby. The beef in the Pad Thai was stringy, the rice was mushy and overcooked and the curry dish we ordered was much spicier than the rest of the items despite asking for two stars across the board. In the future would probably be more likely to make the drive to Buddha Ruksa.

One of the best Thai restaurants that I've tried. The place is not fancy but clean and decent (I'm comparing it to Thai Ginger and Wild Ginger). We always order here whenever we have a group party so pretty much we already tried most of the menu - and they are all good!

  • Thomas F.

the first 3 times I ate here it was decent and fair priced. This time however the lady charged us dinner rates when it was not exactly dinner time. We arrived at 3:45 and ordered immediately. there were no posted hours for lunch or dinner so I asked . She sad "Oh this is dinner time- it's 4 o'clock." Then the food came out in 3 minutes......faster than McDonalds ! I was very suspicious on the quality of the food and as I looked at the "swiming angel" I realized it was all just stuff they threw together from the refrigerator. It did not seem very well prepared .

Had phad thai. It was meh. A little too rich for my blood for average food. They have a minimum purchase, blech.

My new favorite Thai restaurant in the Seattle area. We came here for lunch last Saturday and we loved it! The inside is very well decorated, cozy, clean, perfect lighting. We ordered the Pad See Eew and a couple of other dishes. Everything was so incredibly good. The service was excellent. One server only was running the entire front of the house, serving, bussing, managing, everything! Very impressive: the place was busy but the service was impeccable! The chef came out to chit chat with us and that was the best part. She is from Thailand, she knows how to make authentic good food, and she showed us how much she cares about her restaurant. We love small restaurants and for us supporting them is vital. In this place we also saw very passionate people working that made us feel like at home. I rate this as the best Thai restaurant in Seatte and I would highly recommend a trip to West Seattle to this establishment for any Thai food lover.

Okay folks, I have honestly tried to embrace this place. I love Thai food and it's the only one in my neighborhood, but every time I've gone I've been sorry. Today I ordered the lunch special; Panang w/Mixed Vegetables for $6.95. They asked if I wanted brown rice and then charged me a dollar extra. A dollar! How much is rice? .13 cents a cylo! Come on. Then, they filled the 'to go' box with so much rice there was barely room for anything else. A very thin lay of chicken over the top. Oh yeah...the mixed vegetables consisted of bean sprouts, a couple pieces of carrot and iceberg lettuce. Hardly mixed vegetables! The panang sauce was tasty enough (I'll give them that). Also, I've never had very friendly service. I'm done with this place!

We used to go at least once a month but then we ordered take-out and when we opened the brocolli beef at home we noticed a hair in it (grosss) and threw it away. We found something else to eat but it was bothering me so I called to tell the owner the next day. She told me to bring the food in... I told her I threw it away last night and we was rude about it all. We haven't been back since.... :( She did nothing...she didn't even apologize... bad service = we will never be back again....

My boyfriend and I come here regularly. He usually gets the chicken fried rice which I think is okay (kind of plain, but I haven't found a place that actually has good fried rice). I usually eat the phad see eew, which is flavorful. Today, I ate the red curry with rice. It's full of bamboo and topped with some chicken which is pretty decent, though there is not enough curry in it. The service is very fast. Nice staff. The price, however, is expensive for the portion you are receiving.

Not bad. Just brought home Vatsana Noodle. Three stars felt more like 1.5 The flavors were nice, but the portion for the price? Come on? How much can rice noodles cost? For bang for my buck, I will continue to head to Than Brothers. The lunch special is a better deal.

Very disappointing. I was really looking forward to some good Thai food. I LOVE Thai food and when the GF suggested Thai or Teriyaki for dinner I was all for some Thai. This place is small but looks nice. The staff was friendly enough but not exactly "cheery." I ordered some Tom Kha Gai, I think, for my GF. It was some sort of chicken coconut milk soup. She liked it even though I only ordered her 2 stars. I figured she didn't want it too spicy since she was a bit under the weather, I figured wrong. For myself, I ordered my usual favorite, Cashew Chicken and was very disappointed! This was a take out order so I didn't inspect my food till I got home, though I did ask the cashier if this was my Cashew chicken and Tom Kha Gai order with side of rice. She assured me it was. Well it might have been but they forgot a major ingredient in my Cashew Chicken. There were NO cashews!!! WTF? How do forget the cashews in Cashew Chicken? I mean the damn things are in the name. Needless to say I was pretty upset with this place and I really wanted to go back and let then know how I felt but I was so hungry I just ate the crap they had given me. The food wasn't bad, not great either but it would have been a lot better if it had the actual ingredients it should have. I get the Cashew Chicken because I really enjoy cashews and Thai food so it's a perfect combo for me. I also enjoy how the crunchy cashews go with the soft chicken and veggies. I guess I'll have to check my order on the spot if I ever go back to this place again, but I doubt I will. I'll most likely just try the Teriyaki next door, you really can't forget the ingredients in Teriyaki or can you? Hmm. I'd also like to add that this place seems a bit pricey, it was over $20 for two orders and side of rice. And the portion of rice was pretty pathetic.

Went here with a 6 of my nursing school buddies one day. We got seated quickly but it took them over 45min to make our food. They were short with us and our food was flavorless and cold. Then they tried to rush us out!! I would understand if there were a large group of people waiting to be seated but there wasn't. Really unprofessional and unfriendly. Haven't been there since.

The food was decent enough, but what really surprised me was the horrible service here! Those females are EXTREMELY rude. Being a waitress myself, I'm usually very understanding, but I was really appalled by their unprofessionalism and how they treated me and my friend. On top of that, their menu is really over priced and not worth the money or time. I won't be coming back.

  • Melissa B.

The food is ok but the portion are ridicolously small. I ordered the Panang Curry with tofu. The broth was real watery with barely a hint of coconut milk. There were only about 8 small chunks of tofu and a 1/4 of a red pepper for vegetables. Rice was additional. Since it was not nearly enough I ordered the same noodle dish my friend ordered. This portion was ok but nothing to write home about. For the two of us it came to $32 so overpriced for the quality and scant portion. I will not return to this place due to the price. You could easily get a better meal at Eats or Giannoni's Pizza at Westwood Village.

I am madly in love with and crave the Evil Jungle with scallops. Emmmm it's heaven in your mouth. We recently tried the Phad Seew and several Curry dishes all to the complete happiness and satisfaction of our taste buds. They are always quick to greet you with a smile and suggest what is fresh for the day. My next order is going to be the Papaya Salad...... emmmmmm I can't wait!

Food sucks here not even going to lie. I ordered noodles (I think it was like evil noodles or something) and it tasted like burnt crud. Garlic chicken wings were disgusting and not special. I'm pretty sure they didn't even add garlic to it.. Dry chicken, burnt noodles... NO THANK YOU.

Tasty lunch to go. Small dining area but you seat yourself stayed a small voice from back. Walk up to counter to place order to go. I liked my meal very much. Smile from staff would've warranted 5th star.

This Thai place was alright. The tom yum soup was ok. They did put a lot of mushrooms into the soup. The spice level was ok, could have used more flavors. The down fall is the service. The service is slow, and they will take their time taking an order or getting the food out or receiving the check. I might try something else. But we will see.

The Pad Thai was pure sugar and very sticky. It was a big glop of rice noodles that we could not finish. When the server tried to put it in a to go box, I informed her that the food was no good. For that comment she offered to take off the cost of the second bowl of rice we ordered... Probably only $2 Absolutely no to little meat in the other two stir fry dishes. Meat was so minimal and not fresh. My favorite dish - the Papaya salad was again all sugar and no spice, and absolutely SOGGY. Through word of mouth we finally gave this place a shot but now we know better and will not return.

Overall, I give Vatsana Thai restaurant a 2.5 star rating. The place is conveniently located in West Seattle (at the Westwood Village Shopping Center closeby QFC, 24 hour Fitness, and Starbucks). During my first visit, the food was delicious and the customer service was very good. Ever since, like a long lost friend, I come back in hopes of recreating my first experience but I'm unfortunately disappointed each time. The wait staff are generally pleasant and friendly each time, so that wasn't the issue. The real drawback is the consistency of the food. I'm not sure if there are different cooks/chefs, but the food was bland during my last visits (e.g. the pineapple fried rice). I might try Vatsana Thai one more time. If my next visit is a no-go, I'll just call my first experience a fluke. Here's hoping they prove me wrong next time.

Tried both pad Thai and basil noodle but I'm not sure what kind of beef they use it smells so bad and tastes tetrible. The staffs were really nice tho they changed my plate when I complained and gave me a one with chicken which was really good. I'll give 3.5 for nice staffs and OK food.

The only reason I'm giving it a two star is because I love red/green curry, no one can make it wrong. Although I asked for a lot of veggies and no meat it looked like the normal amount of veggies. This dine in was horrible, there was a rush for to go and we got there before all that and ended up getting our food in patches after everyone got there food. Ordered the fresh rolls, the peanut sauce was bomb! On the other hand the orange chicken was mostly carrots with a whole lot of onion and lots of runny sauce under. Never ever seen orange chicken like that. I also ordered brown rice, it looked like hard clumpy oatmeal. On the other hand I had strawberry bubble tea for the first time and it was really delicious! I say over all I say thumbs down. They obviously care more about the to go customers then there dine in.

After a workout at 24 Hour Fitness, I needed a sustenance recharge -- and carbs will definitely do the job. Originally planning on going to Eats Market Bistro and then finding out they had a 30 minute wait, we decided to walk around the shopping center to see what else was available. We find Vatsana Thai with no wait. They are competitively priced ($11-12 / entree), but the amount of food that comes out is like a mountain of noodles! Super generous portions. I easily recommend the Evil Jungle Noodles with Tofu -- YUM!

I came in here looking for comforting Thai. I got that somewhat but the whole experience missed the mark. I had the satay to start with rice noodles in peanut sauce, a mixture of shrimp, scallops and calamari with vegetables. I also ordered a root beer. I was surprised when a can of soda was brought out to me. This is a casual dining restaurant, not a fast food place, but even then you get a fountain drink with refills. Not here. After waiting 10 minutes for 4 pieces of chicken satay when only one other table was occupied, I was excited because the peanut sauce was really good, although kind of sugary, and the chicken was cooked just right. It was also a generous piece on each skewer. The entrée arrived, and I saw noodles and sauce with a piece of broccoli poking out. As I fished around the very hot noodles, I found all the seafood: 4 shrimp, 3 small scallops, and 7 pieces of squid. I love mushrooms and hunted down 4 slices of canned fungi. There were 4 halves of green beans. There were slices of carrot that looked old. The few broccoli chunks were good and seemed fresh but I searched for anything else but besides onion slices, and that was it. I had a pound of noodles left even though I'd eaten some. I was stuffed on noodles and really glad I had ordered the satay. That said, the sauce was great, the noodles were cooked right and it was served steaming hot. I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in and directed to seat myself. Water was automatically brought out, and the server friendly. Another server had seen me waiting to order which wasn't long and took my order. Then they vanished. I wasn't checked on once while I was eating and could've used more napkins back while I got peanut sauce on my face eating the starter. The place is small, and they weren't busy. People who came in after me received their entrees before I got my appetizer. I watched the two servers eat and drink behind the register, which kinda turned me off to the place. The restaurant is small with just one table that can hold more than 4 so I wouldn't recommend it for groups. I was a bit underwhelmed by the signs written on old dot matrix paper hanging by the kitchen and the poster with pictures from 1990 hanging in the front window. The warm pumpkin orange and maple paint job of the dining area is inviting. The really loud radio was annoying at first but then my brain toned it out. I may come back and try this place another time because I want to like it, and I love Thai. They may just have had an off night. Food: 2 Service: 3 Ambiance: 3 Parking: 4

I was badly craving Thai food after work, so I came to Vatsana's. Since I've ordered their curry before and quite enjoyed it, I was willing to visit this place again. The place was busy for dinner when I got there- not that packed so I walked to the front desk to place an order to go. I didn't feel like pad thai or pad seeuw, but wanted noodles so I went for the Evil Jungle Noodles with chicken. ...and boy, am I not disappointed! For $9.50, their to go box serving gave me a ton of noodles and veggies- carrots, green beans and broccoli. The dish reminds me of a mix between pad see euw (sauce) and pad thai (noodle thickness). My only complaint is that the woman who took my order forgot to give me a fork/chop sticks and napkins. If I didn't go straight home, this would've been really problematic. All in all, I'm happy about the food.. and would love to get this again!

I had to make an Office Depot run today at lunch time and decided to give Vatsana Thai Restaurant a try. They're both located in the Westwood Village Shopping Center in West Seattle. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai - which is alway my bench mark test whenever I try a new Thai place. I ordered it with 2 out of 5 stars. It came relatively fast and it was piping hot, but the 2 stars could have easily been bumped up to 3 with no problem. I have to say that the Pad Thai was just OK. It was the brown type which I prefer, however I found it a bit to sweet. The noodles were also very sticky which made it a little hard to eat. There was a decent amount of chicken throughout and it came garnished with a ton of bean sprouts and julienned carrots, so it had a very nice presentation. Seattle seems to have Thai restaurants around every corner, and because of that I probably won't make Vatsana a regular stop. It's perfectly adequate, but not overly memorable.

Fresh rolls and peanut sauce is a must. The price may send you looking in the other direction, but definitely try it at least once. You may find yourself looking in the other direction when it comes to ordering these bad boys. I generally stick with the beef fried rice, its amazingly good and a hefty portion, so there are always left overs. I like that the friendly girls that work there get to know their customers. We have been going there consistently for about a year now and the staff is not shy about getting to know us.

Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. I'm really picky when it comes to this type of cuisine. The "evil jungle" is to-die-for! Chicken or Beef. I like 3 star spice, but this place is 5 star all the way.

Made a trip to QFC and spotted Vatsana as I was pulling up in the parking lot. I've been jonesing for some Thai food for days so I thought, "meh, why not?", and decided to try it out after putting my groceries away in my car. Sidebar: +1 for convenience of location and lot parking. I stood at the door for a solid four minutes until I was asked if I wanted to dine-in or take-out. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, however all the other diners were already settled seating/eating and one of the servers passed by me without any acknowledgement. Eventually she finally took the time to shout at me from the kitchen and across the room. Sooooo I'd say that the first five minutes of my Vatsana experience was sub-par...but I stayed validating my pseudo-masochistic decision to carry this dining experience all the way through with the assumption (read: hope) that the food would be the saving grace of the whole situation. Noooopppeeee. The aforementioned server ended up being the person who was in charge of my table. I ordered Tofu Pad Thai which is my standard when trying out any new Thai place. The food was brought out quickly and the presentation of the dish wasn't anything displeasing or out of ordinary. After plopping down the serving platter on my table, the server just...walked away. I assumed she hurriedly left to bring me a plate which was lacking from the table. Again, nope. So I walked up and asked for a plate. She told me she'd bring it out right away. Guess "right away" means "I'll take a couple of orders first and then I'll bring you your plate". The amount of tofu in the dish was a little underwhelming. I will say that the price was right for the large portion size given - so they have that working for them. In regards to taste, it was nothing extraordinary. The spicy scale is from 1-5, and I ordered my dish at a 3 which could have easily passed as a 1 due to the absence of any spice. A different waiter brought me my check and a to-go box. (Oh, they box up your leftovers for you - that was a first. ) Her prompt service and overall more pleasant disposition *almost* made up for the manners of the initial server. So thanks to her, I decided to rate Vatsana three stars instead of two.

After finding out Buddha ruska had a 40 minute wait for dine in & take out, we came here. Zero wait on a Friday night, fast service, waitress was sweet. I've had food here before & bubble tea. It's good & cheap. The portions are huge! Green curry & pad kee Mao are tasty tasty. My bf liked the curry fried rice a lot. Crab delight was really crispy & fresh. If you like spicy you can definitely handle the 4, even 5. #2 spicy was not spicy enough. So many leftovers, I'm so happy. I would recommend this place!

Everything here is quite delicious, but a bit pricey for some dishes. (Which is why I gave it a three star, sorry!) I love the new management, I just wish there weren't so many taped on signs over the front desk. The new manager should look into making the front desk a bit more professional, and less cluttered. (Also change that old message on the large black board) Since new management, I haven't gotten sick from the food which is also incredibly nice. I feel bad about saying this, when I know the old manager. :( I love the Tom Yum Noodle soup!

I've been coming to Vatsana in its many incarnations since HS, this was my go to place with friends to get Thai when we would go to White Center. Previous to the new owners taking over, the food had been in decline: wilted produce, greasy noodles that left pools of grease on serving dishes, and meats that tastes past its good by date. The service was also pretty desperate, bordering on hostile. Recently, there's been new management, and the food and service has been 100 fold better the last couple times I've stopped by. Last night was one of those nights: myself and a girlfriend came in for dinner to catch up on girl talk and to gab about boys. We both ordered curries, and had the fresh roles and chicken satay to start. This place also does a strong take out business, and while we were the only ones eating in most of their orders in the hour we were there were to go. Food wise, our appetisers took a tad to come out, but it was obvious that they were made to order and not pulled out of a fridge and plated/reheated. Our curries came out shortly after the apps did. Portions here are very generous- there was easily a large meals worth of leftovers, which were just as tasty when I ate them for a late breakfast this morning. Water was refilled as needed, and the lady working the front was darling. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

Bad food that costs too much. Our vegetables were undercooked and difficult to eat, the tofu tasted raunchy and the sauce was just sugar syrup. In the end the bill was way too high for what we got and how it tasted

Love the food & love the service!!! I love their Garlic Chicken in their lunch specials menu, & their Phad Seew is DELICIOUS, especially because I love broccoli. Big portions & inexpensive. I go there a lot with my boyfriend because its better than other Thai places we've been to!

I'd give it one and a half stars. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice to go, brought it back to my office and it just looked so bland. All rice, chicken, onion and pineapple - a very beige meal. I found one snap pea (seriously, ONE snap pea?) and three slices of carrots. It also tasted pretty bland, the two stars tasted more like zero stars. The place is clean and table settings look nice, and the woman who helped me was lukewarm - I tried to make small talk and she wasn't interested. I won't be back here, there are much better places like Thaitan on California.

  • Grace R.

The folks who work here are very nice, but the peanut sauce, which to me is one of the most important features of a Thai restaurant, looks and tastes like it's right out of a can. (And it wreaked havoc on my digestive system.) Overall, the food there is edible, and there are some dishes that are better than others; the pad thai is not bad. But it's far from my first choice with so many other options.

  • Luis M.

Just stood here for 10 minutes while the workers talked and cleaned the tables, wasn't even greeted seems like they don't like customers here. If you like good service this isn't the place for you, you literally feel as if you were a ghost here.

I love this place, the food is amazing, very flavorful and a reasonable price for the portions they give you.Everything on the menu can me Vegetarian! This amazes me, there are so many possibilities! The atmosphere is nice, the decoration is quaint and quite enjoyable. Almost every time I come here I am impressed. The waitresses are very sweet, though some do not speak English well. I have never had my order wrong. The few criticisms I have are that the spice system seems to be off. 2-4 stars taste exactly the same and do not seem to get any spicier. And the Evil Jungle noodles did not impress me, they were extremely sweet and tasted heavily of plum sauce. Otherwise this is a great place. I highly recommend it.

I have looked and looked for a good Asian food restaurant in the Seattle area. I had found one in the U district, but that is about it. I was very happy with what I found. It is far superior to another Thai restaurant that I has been recommended several times--I was horribly disappointed with that restaurant. I was very pleased--it was great tasting curry with plenty of sauce with it. Will definitely go back. The downside was the so-so service. That is the reason it didn't get 5 stars. Tho this is not fine dining establishment.

I used to live in W Seattle and came here often. It was a little expensive but the food was well prepared, nicely presented and the service was good so Vatsana became a regular stop for me. I now live 250 miles away from Seattle and I come to town a few times each year. When I saw that I would be in W Seattle around dinner time, I decided to visit my old haunt that I had not been to in several years. I should have known just from the cheesy plastic menu with bad photos of generic food in the window, that things had changed. The old menu was classy. Printed on nice paper with a font that looked hand drawn. I noticed a sharp hike in prices but I know that Seattle is going for a $15/hr minimum wage so I expected to see increases. I ordered Garlic Beef and as soon as the dish arrived I knew this place had to be under new ownership. Before, vegetables were always freshly stir fried, arriving crisp tender, with vibrant colors. Tonight, the broccoli and snow peas were totally over cooked, mushy, gray/green. The beef was grey. It all looked and tasted like it was cooked earlier in the day and thrown together when I made my order. And it was heaped onto the serving plate without any care at all. It looked and tasted bad. The one thing I really disliked about the previous restaurant was the serving of a warm can of Coke with a glass of ice but I got over it because I liked the food. Now that the food is awful, the warm Coke seems intolerable. I told my waitress that I didn't recognize any of the workers and she confirmed that the joint changed hands a few years ago. To top things off, they were blasting Oldies radio to contribute to their ambience. Disappointed. There are many choices for Thai in Seattle. Find something else.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would after today's experience. It takes a lot for me to give a bad rating, but today was truly terrible. I went in as the lunch crowd was winding down, around 130PM. Greeted immediately, which was nice and I ordered Vatsana noodles for takeout. I waited about 10 minutes for my takeout order, which was average. The food was nicely packaged, too. I got in the car and noticed that the container did not feel hot...at all. Thought it was my imagination as it was a rainy, wet day. Got home (less than 10 minutes away), opened the container to find the noodles (with chicken) completely cold. That is unacceptable. They were cold like they had been sitting out (maybe for another customer??) for awhile. I warmed the food up, only to find that there was SO much water in it, that it filled about a third of the takeout container. This I do not understand. I tried a bite, and the flavor was overly fishy tasting. I will not be returning.

Every time we order for take out here, the customer service is very nice. Some of the girls even strike conversation with me. They give a lot of food too! I order three plates which can feed four people and still have left overs!

I'm upgrading my review from 2 to 3.5 stars. I've been here twice since they seemed to have changed hands, and the food is much better. It is not the best Thai around, but it is solid and worthy of a visit. Since so many other negative reviews are here, rounding up to a 4 out of 5.

I wanted to like this place but I didn't. First time I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it did look delicious but at the first couple bites I was about to throw up. The chicken taste old and bad. The second time I had pad see ew and it was ok but not great. It seems to me that their business are slow and they run the food that they haven't sell for like a week and they still served to you. Other issue that I found is that the host is so rude, and that really disgusted me. I sat down and she had me moved to the corner like there were expecting tons of reservations but the place was empty and nobody show, we were only two customers. Don't waste your money on this place, BAD FOOD AND BAD SERVICE!

Love this place! The BEST value for your money. Delicious food, casual atmosphere & friendly waitstaff. My spouse and I have pretty large appetites yet never go hungry ordering from here. We usually order 1 dish with extra chicken to go and still have leftovers. Yum!

I was hungry and my husband insisted that I try Thai food. He mentioned that he hasn't been to this place for 8+ years. Since it was my first time I wasn't sure if I needed to order at the counter or wait for someone to come take my order. I didn't have a menu so I got up and grabbed one. Other than that the service was good, very polite and sweet staff. My go to dish is normally Tom Yum, garlic chicken wings and chicken laarb. The portions were big which is good but the food was not to my liking. The Tom Yum tasted like instant packaged noodle with shrimp added, the garlic chicken had no flavor and a bit greasy. The chicken laarb shouldn't taste sweet and it had no spice to it at all. I will not order from here again.

I go here about once a month. It's not the best Thai food I've ever had, and it's certainly some of the most expensive (lunch or dinner specials are the way to go, if they're not posted ASK!), but it's not terrible either. Certainly not to the degree that everyone else is stating in their reviews. And I'm no Thai food novice either. I like my Thai food spicy (they rate their dish spiciness from 1-5, with 5 being the hottest), I always order it at a 4 or 5, depending on the dish. I rarely order Pad Thai, unless I'm with my daughter b/c SHE loves rice noodles. I am a fan of their Tom Kha soup and their crab wontons. Their fresh rolls are yummy too. The owners and wait staff are ALWAYS very friendly and accommodating to me, especially when I visit w/ my 4 year old daughter in tow. The food is served quickly, tastes super fresh and is always piping hot, which I love. They have green and Jasmine tea. Thai iced tea as well. The usual sodas and regular iced tea. The bathrooms are clean, albeit dark. The seating area is clean, bright and nicely decorated. There is plenty of parking. You can order food for take-away if you'd rather eat at home. It's close and convenient for those of us who live in the south end of West Seattle and who don't want to trek down to the Junction for even pricier Thai at Buddha Ruksa (which is way overrated IMO).

No. This is not acceptable. This is not a restaurant. This is a dining room of a Thai prison in a B movie. Those were my thoughts as I saw other people eating right after I ordered. I did not know swimming rama was a brown soup. I did the reverse of a "dine and dash". I did "order and ditch". And then went to QFC....

Very bad experience today. They don't post a menu online with prices for a reason. Ordered some spring rolls for takeout, was surprised with a bill of twice as much as I've paid at other places with spring rolls that were far better. But that wasn't the worst part. The service was rude, and for a simple pickup. No smile, no courtesy on walking up (and yes I was smiling before I received the bill). If you want great Thai food in West Seattle and pleasant service, try Buddha Ruksa or Bangbar. In Burien, Thai's Corner Kitchen. What a bummer that this sad place is nearest my home. Oh, and it's not just today... about two years ago, when my husband and I tried it out, the chicken in his panang curry was dried out and obviously old or reused (warmed over) yuck. My noodles were marginal, but the shrimp were very shrimpy (old, double-yuck). Very sorry the experience has gotten worse. I won't make the mistake a 3rd time.

Terrific experience! My daughter and I stopped by this evening, a Monday, and the place was hopping. The waitress told us that had been the case all the week prior. We ordered the Yum Salad with chicken (spot on!) and Panang Curry, chicken. Best I've had anywhere, and chicken curry is my go-to order. Excellent portion sizes, and very reasonable pricing. The waitress was very busy, but she kept the water coming, and the food arrived earlier than expected considering the crowd and the folks who were picking up to go items. I'm not often in that area, but I'll look forward to returning when the opportunity rolls around.

I decided that I definitely needed to update my previous 4-star review because a lot has changed in a short while. I think the only reason I came here to begin with is because it's so close to home. First off, the only reason I even gave this place such a high rating was because I liked their yum neua so much, but it has gone down hill, along with the Phad Thai. The Phad Thai was never really great, but I didn't mind it. I always got it with beef, but something about the meat they use seems really off. It tastes weird, has an odd consistency to it, and is just plain tough. Secondly, the staff is still as rude and pushy as ever. It is safe to say that I will never be coming back here again.

The Vatsana noodle and Fried whole Rainbow trout have earned Vatsana 5 stars and my respect. I cannot stress how lovely and enjoyable this place is. Located in West Wood center from West Seattle, this Thai place is a must for Thai food lover. The place is not very big, about 8-9 tables that can seat 4 people. I don't remember being in line for a table ever, but they do get crowded. I was always given great service and the owner is such a cool lady. She KNOWS what we want when we come in because it's always the same. She chatted with the customers and always eager to show her absolutely adorable baby. I cannot recommend enough their Fried Whole Rainbow trout with sweet and spicy sauce!!!!!!!! You MUST try! I miss West Seattle since I move but I will make a trip for Vatsana.

I can't believe this place has such awful reviews. I had such a great experience all across the board here. I came in for a quick bite to eat in between errands. I was here with my friend and we both ordered curry. Our server was super helpful and answered our questions about the menu. we were both curious about the difference between red, yellow, and green curries. I went with the green while she stuck with the popular yellow curry. Green in general is a tad spicier and made with spinach puree. The yellow curry is made with chunked potatoes in addition to the meat/tofu and vegetables. Whenever I order curry anywhere I ask for extra broccoli. Sometimes they charge extra, here they did not. Overall both dishes were fantastic. The spice levels were great and corresponded well with how we ordered them (me 4 stars, her 3). The serving was plenty and we both had leftovers we enjoyed for dinner later that evening. I would definitely stop in again for a mid errands meal.

I'm not much of a Yelper. I mostly troll to see what others have said about places I want to try out but I just felt compelled to write a review about this place. I've worked a number of service jobs so I feel that I'm a little more understanding of people in the service industry than the average person but there's just no excuse for the RUDE service here. I'm too appalled to detail my experience but I WILL NOT be coming back! That's too bad because the food is GREAT but the rude service just leaves me disgusted.

Great food, Great new staff! The new owners took over 4 months ago and have really turned this place around. The food is fresh, well prepared and very tasty. The music is a nice blend of old 60s and 70s music, not the normal canned Thai music that you get at most places. It gives Vatsana a nice change of pace. I believe that the staff is all new with the new owners and they are friendly and welcoming. In the 4 times we have been there, I don't think my water glass ever go to the halfway point without someone refilling it. My housemate has Celiac and not only do they have no problem with making sure not to use Soy Sauce on her dish, she asked tonight to have them use only 1/2 the normal amount of onions and they had no problem with that, they did not make it seem like it was a huge deal or difficult in any way. This has become our Go-To place for Thai even though it is a longer drive for us to get there. They are well worth the drive to go there.

When Vatsana ran this restaurant, it used to be one of my favorite places to eat. I would drive from Kirkland just to enjoy the food. I have tried just about everything on the menu and loved it. The staff was always friendly, they remembered me and even remembered the dishes that I liked. When I saw a sign saying "New Management," I made an effort to stay open minded. The menus were still the same and the dining area was still the same. My boyfriend and I both ordered our meals, ones that we have had many times. The service was slow and when we got our meals, we were less then impressed. The rice noodles were very gummy and flavorless. The texture was very bad and they were not enjoyable. They portion sizes had always been big but these were ridiculously large. There were way less veggies, barely any, and a giant mound of gummy noodles. I use to love the peanut sauce so much that I would order containers to go, it is very bad now! It was watery and flavorless. I like three stars, this was not three stars! The entire dish was poorly seasoned and I couldn't choke down more then about 10% of the dish. My boyfriend always gets Phad Thai Chicken. His noodles were also very gummy. The seasoning itself was very poor and tasted like ketchup. When we told them we were done and asked for boxes the new owner came over to ask us why we didn't eat more. We had not complained at all and were very nice the entire time so it was very uncomfortable to be approached like that. Instead of asking "Is there anything you didn't like about your meal that we could have done better" it was, "why didn't you eat more?" We explained that we were very light eaters (which is true), tipped well and took home the leftovers. We ended up throwing them out. We decided to go on Yelp to see if anyone else had been disappointed with the new management and found that the management had created a Yelp account and reviewed themselves as a venue to do damage control. That is not only against Yelp rules, but highly inappropriate! The fact of the matter is that this decline in quality is not a question of new management's decisions. They can't just "keep things the same" because they're clearly just not talented enough to do so. The only thing that can save this restaurant is different people in the kitchen. Bigger portions does not equal better! Lets break that "typical fat American" stereotype people! Quality over quantity

Really like the friendly staff here, and the food is very good. Phad kee mao is my fav so far -- I had to order with no spice (7 months pregnant, so spice is no longer possible for me), and it was perfect. There was just a teensy bit of spice, so it still tasted like Thai food, but didn't give me heartburn.

Went there for happy hour. BEWARE!!!! First of all you have to buy a chang beer in order to order an appetizer for half off. What if you don't drink alcohol? I was willing to buy a soft drink. Went there with my son and we wanted three appetizers. We were told we can only order one beer and one appetizer per person. I then asked which items were part of happy hour because the last time only the spring rolls, combination were available for the special. She said all. So I ordered the chicken satay and combo. After consuming the food, the server told us the chicken satay was not part of the special. It wad obviously her fault and i would have expected them to honor that. Nope! Will never go there again!

Sorry. But the Phad Tai was...not at all good. We had a chicken a brocolli dish that was pretty good. I think it was a vegi stir-fry. I hope they improve the Phad Tai is all I have to say.

Not too bad. I had yum beef 5 stars, and pad kee Mao prawns 3 stars. Yum beef very flavorful, kee mao way too sugary, but the right consistency. Needs more vegetables though. And the noodles were too pieced up. They cooked it a little too rough. Atmosphere was nice, one of the smallest pretty restaurants I've ever been to. The waitress was in a hurry so I felt rushed and our food literally came out in like 3 minutes. So I felt really rushed. Thai tea was okay. I've had better. Overall I'd come again for the "yum" salad dishes. oh and they are a bit pricey but not bad.

Always enjoy it here. But their menu is limited and their sauce has a weird sweet taste. And they seem to really break up the long rice noodles while stir frying. It wouldn't be my first choice at westwood but it's not bad.

We have had thai food here a handful of times. It is a small quaint nicely decorated restaurant. I typically order pineapple fried rice and Pad Thai. Pad Thai is not their strongest dish, it is a bit on the sweeter ketchup side versus tangy tamarind side and the noodles are overcooked and mushy. The pineapple fried rice is very good though. This was our to-go Thai place when we did not want to go beyond our neighborhood.

Service was OK, the gentleman who helped us was great, the lady who brought the food out was rather meh. I liked my noodles with chicken and peanut sauce. Tasty fresh rolls with peanut sauce were very good also. Wouldn't order the crab delight again, they were not as good as we had hoped they would be. Not enough crab, just all hot cream cheese filling. Will eat here again for lunch. Dinner is a bit over-priced for what it is.

I've parked many times in front of the Vatsana restaurant down in the Westwood Village Shopping Plaza (few doors down from QFC) on my way to the 24hr fitness or QFC rt next door, but have never gone in. I've never trusted a restaurant that chose a strip mall type of location so this was one of those - like Subway - you just know the quality is going to be low. Tonight, while shopping at Target, my friend who was very hungry suggested we give it a go. It was close, convenient, Thai and we were hungry. I have to say, I was not only impressed with the food (quality and taste) but the value was pretty great as well. We thought we would just break the hunger with a shared snack and grab something later so my friend and I split a mixed seafood curry for $10 (+ $1 rice bowl) and it filled us both to the brim. I was facing the kitchen where the food was being picked up and watched plate after heaping plate passed up through the window. These were the plates for $8 and $9 and they were pretty big - mine was $10 because of the seafood - this was also off the dinner menu. The food was very very tasty, fresh and high quality. You didn't just get a lite layer of veggies or meat tossed in a sauce on top of a mound of rice to make it look like allot. They actually served the rice separately and the plate still mounded high. Now,Vatsana's helpings are not amazing - I've had that at Jade West on California Ave SW (we miss you Wha) but pretty darn impressive. Great attention to presentation as well. 5-stars? I save that for the restaurants that knock it out of the park. Vatsana comes close but I'll update after a number of return visits now planned and let you know.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant for when I am already pretty hungry, since their service is always amazingly fast. The food that I've had here was averageish, but they get an extra star for the super fast service.

This place is TERRIBLE! Reading other reviews ahead of time, it's surprising to see how many people complain about not just bad service, but how rude the staff and especially owners are. Let me tell you about my experience. The first time I went here, was by accident. I was on the way home from a long day of biking, and phoned in a take-out order at the Toshi's Teriyaki a couple doors down. It was night, I was tired, so I parked and mistakenly walked into Vatsana. Gave them my name for the order, and they quickly informed me there was no order under my name. I realized I had walked into the wrong restaurant, apologized, and started to walk out. The owner had the audacity to yell out, in an extremely rude tone, "Oh yeah yeah go get your Teriyaki, good bye." Trust me, I'm not the sensitive type, but the dismissive wave of his hand and the tone of his voice was so stereotypically bad, it was hard to believe it was truly happening. All this despite the presence of a few couples eating in the restaurant too. Stupid me, I ignored that incident and the reviews, and decided to actually try the food at Vatsana. I ordered some takeout and it was terrible. If you think I'm biased b/c of my first experience, I won't waste time trying to convince you otherwise, but the fact that I still gave them my patronage should say alot. In any case, the food here is terrible. The color, consistency, flavor, everything is off. Noodles, dishes, etc...blech. It's safe to say I will never ever eat here again.

NOT GOOD! We checked the Yelp reviews before continuing on with a plan to pick up take out from Vatsana. It sounded like things had changed, we were in their area and needed take out. We had Shrimp Pad Thai, Chicken Larb, Red Curry with Tofu and Coconut Curry Soup. The pad thai was nothing but noodles and a few shrimp. It was very sugary and thats about it. Chicken Larb was unflavorful ground chicken, no mint at all and some red onions in a container with a hunk of cabbage. The red curry had good flavor but the tofu was very mushy. The soup was average. Three of us shared this meal, all in agreement that it was awful. Because one of us picked it up and this place is not close to our home we ate what we could. Each of us mixed all dishes together to try to enjoy it. Everyone knows how disappointing it is to get home late after a long day with take out and its no good. The four containers of food were more then 2/3rds full after 3 people ate what we could. We didnt call the restaurant,we just know to never go there again. But because we used yelp as a determination of ordering from there we knew we had to write a review. This was not good, we will not be back. If you want good Thai in this area go further north into West Seattle proper.

They give you SOO much food compare to Thai-U-Up & its for about the same price! Foods really good as well :) Try their jungle noodles!!! Amazing!

Tasty lunch to go. Small dining area but you seat yourself stayed a small voice from back. Walk up to counter to place order to go. I liked my meal very much. Smile from staff would've warranted 5th star.

Best Tom Ka soup in town! The curry is awesome every time. Best Thai restaurant in town. The service is always good and you can get a big dinner for two for $20!

    (3)
  • John E.

The new manager is a wonderful person who has run Toshi's for a while as well. This is easily the best Thai food resaurant in the area.

  • Philicia S.

  • Tori S.

Always enjoy it here. But their menu is limited and their sauce has a weird sweet taste. And they seem to really break up the long rice noodles while stir frying. It wouldn't be my first choice at westwood but it's not bad.

Two hairs in our fried rice. Mushy shrimp. Sour soup. Overcooked beef in phad se ew, burnt noodles. Got take out and was extremely disappointed.

I love the food! Only gave it 4 stars b/c it leans towards the upper end of the price scale when weighed against the amount of food as far as Vietnamese food goes. Again, their food is delish and if nothing else - a definite 'must try'!

  • Mel W.

Evil jungle noodles!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good service, they are so sweet, fast pick up for to go orders. Cute little place.

We always order here whenever we have a group party so pretty much we already tried most of the menu - and they are all good!

the first 3 times I ate here it was decent and fair priced.
