I am glad this restaurant has opened up on Beacon Avenue S. It was clean, nicely decorated, and the server was very nice, polite and helpful. It wasn't empty and it wasn't crowded. Pricing was modest. I had a chicken pot pie and some chili which were very good. Then again anything I can't cook myself I call very good, which is many things. I thought it looked good and tasted good and I didn't have to worry about driving more than 1 mile to get to a decent sit-down place to eat that wasn't fast food or ethnic food. There were many beers and spirits available as well, but unfortunately I didn't feel like drinking there.

I was staying in the Beacon Hill area which is really nice. Oak was a short walk from the condo I was renting and well worth it! I did not have the burgers though the the gentlemen next to me were having them and it looked (and smelled) awesome as did the french fries. I had 2 of the custom drinks which are inventive and yummy! I also had the chicken pot pie which was absolutely delicious and stuffed with chicken and veggies.

Great little bar to get the feeling of Seattle's best dining without the attitude of nearby capital hill. Definitely a Beacon Hill crowd...eclectic, laid back, and a twist of hipster. Great food and service coupled with a divey atmosphere makes for a fun after work watering whole.

The first thing I thought of when I drove by this place was acorns (the acorn decal) and then squirrels---but no squirrel material inside! I guess the skunk air freshener in the restroom is cool enough. :) SoBeHi (South Beacon Hill) has always been quiet at night---and it still is---until you step into either 1 of 2 bars: Tippe & Drague Alehouse and, this, The Oak. Since a couple weeks ago, I'd say I've been in a few times in the front portion and the back, raised bar (I'm not sure if there's a handicap ramp going up to it). It kind of has a classic, vintage-y, early-modern(?) retro flair to it with clean finishes. The upward focused candescent bulbs give off a neat ambient and soft light in the bar. Lots of old, classic touches throughout you may notice while the flatscreens always keep you in check with reality... and smartphones. The staff I've encountered have always been pleasant, friendly and helpful. Bridgett recommends the Herky's fried chicken sandwich, so if you love those, go for 'em. For the grub, I've tried that, the Minimum Wage Burger and the Overtime Burger: --Herky's Fried Chicken Sandwich = I'm slowly fading away from fried chicken but I wanted to try this one. The breading was a smidge too much for me, but the chicken that lies within was amazing. So warm, tender, moist and chicken-y. For the side, I opted for the side greens with balsamic vinagriette. --Minimum Wage Burger: A good, solid meat sandwich with their unique sauce + the side of fries. It was pretty good. --Overtime Burger: Same as MW, but instead of 1/3, it was 2/3 lb / 2 patties... It was big, it was meaty, it was a massive, messy and moist mess. Have some napkins and finger lickin' on deck. The desserts sound amazing as I believe they make them all in-house. 1 piece serves 2 so far I can tell and the glass hiding them usually has the ingredients listed. Some are too sweet for me, but if it's simple enough, I just may go for one. This place and T&D down the street get busy during the week's end slots. Check it out.

I loooooooove this pub! And, from the crowds that swamped here on one Saturday evening, so do a lot of people! I have waiting in anticipation to have The Oak open and have watched it progress weekly after attending my nearby yoga class. Alas! I finally made it here and was excited after reading some yelp reviews. I love, love, love the interior. It reminds me of modern meets oak meets retro. The main entrance offers dining experince for all ages. A nicely decorated chalk board offers the specials of the day which is a good thing to check out as it will not be on the menu. A few steps up, there is a nice bar area with seating around the bar and booths. Menu offers options of burgers, grilled cheese, frittes, dessert, chilli. I was told the menu is still being crafted which will may offer veggie meat options. For my first visit, I of course being a grilled cheese lover, ordered the grilled cheese. They use a smoked cheese which is flavorful and a bit salty. I would order again, but request a tomato or raw onions to help cut down the salt taste. My friend ordered the Minimum Wage Burger which they LOVED! It has a wonderful smoked spicy sauce that adds a great kick. I would even think of requesting it for my grilled cheese! Great ambience, good service, great add to the neighborhood! It gets busy on the wkend evening so service can be tricky but the wait is worth it!

So this place is a mess, we checked in at 6:45 sat down about 7:10 . When we sat down they said cash if you can they were having Comcast trouble. We ordered drinks and a few minutes later ordered dinner got our drinks and no dinner it never came. This was 45 minutes after we sat down and everyone that sat after us got food. Our waitress blamed it on the kitchen. I'm sure she forgot to put it in the order in so I order a different drink, what do u know it came and it was the same as the first one. She then gave us some chick peas and told us she could fry anything fast. Well we had a babysitter and we had to be home by 9 so we left with no dinner. I know your are trying to be all hip but to many mistakes the wrong drink no food and bad service not sure what will keep you open.

Had to do this again for The Oak! They have added a Patty Melt to the menu. It is truly a religious experience. Don't know what they do to it but damn, it is the best ever!!

Oak could well become a favorite neighborhood watering hole, taking into consideration its extensive and creative drink menu. The Indie music is a definite plus (even if it's played a little too loud). We came here last night and upon entry, were greeted by what seemed like the smell of wort, though I'm unsure if there's actually a brewery on the premises. While there were only a few people when we arrived just after six, Oak was definitely hopping an hour later. I don't know if Oak has air conditioning (being Seattle, they may well not), but Oak was rather warm, stuffy and humid. A thermometer on one wall indicated a temperature just short of 80, and hitting 80 by the time we left. Because I had stuff to do later in the evening, I demurred on the temptation to quaff a cocktail. However, JP got a glass of house red, served in a mini Ball jar. The food menu looked great and I went with the Chicken Pot Pie (after receiving assurances from our friendly waiter that it didn't contain rosemary). JP had planned to just eat like a bird and ordered only the mixed greens, which I also asked for to go along with my pot pie. Even though we had already ordered, when JP noticed curry chick peas on the Daily Specials chalkboard, he requested an order of the peas. The mixed greens with balsamic vinegar were pretty good. Though nicely and thoroughly tossed, there was a smidge too much balsamic vinegar, making the greens overly tart. On the other hand, the chicken pot pie was primo, and I would come back for that. The baked-to-a-perfect-golden-brown crust was tender and the chicken, potato, peas and carrot filling seasoned perfectly. Delicious!! The curry chick peas looked a lot like Cocoa Puffs. Their aroma made me think I had stepped into Namaste in Portland. While the curry on the peas was just too overwhelming for me, I did enjoy the flavor of the clumps of a green sauce (chimichurri?) that had been sprinkled through the chick peas. Service was very good, though I sense Oak might be a little understaffed when there is a full crowd. Nonetheless, we like Oak and will return.

We've been here at least once every other week since we found it a couple months ago. They improved the buns! They aren't as crumbly as before and hold up quite well now. We've tried a few more things - the espresso burger is really nicely done. The chicken sandwich is amazing - that fried chicken is way better than expected and quite fantastic. The charcuterie burger (char-char) is still my favorite, though. The patty melt is great, too! Still haven't tried their desserts, but it's a favorite spot now.

We've been here twice now, and at first glance I always think that the menu could use a little more variety, and then I order, and whatever I get is really good. I applaud your sticking to the short menu of awesomeness. Definitely preferable to a long menu of mediocrity. Case in point, in general I'm just not that into grilled cheese sandwiches, but I finished what my kid didn't eat, and even half cold it was still one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten. Aged sharp cheddar is better than I could have imagined on grilled cheese. I'm talking like last meal, eyes rolling back in my head good. The happy hour house white wine was pretty darn good and a decent price too. Happy Hour Wine +Best Grilled Cheese Ever = Happy Mama

I really think a 3.5 star rating is appropriate, but I had a great time here with some friends trying out different burger combinations, so four stars it is! The build-your-own burger idea is pretty solid, and though it ends up being a little more expensive than I think is warranted (hence the 3.5 star rating), the ingredients are pretty good. Only complaint was that the burger patty was a little small...could have done with a little more beef. But it was cooked decently with a little pink in the middle, and the taste was not overwhelmed by the other burger ingredients. In fact, it was so good at first bite that I forgot to put the tomato, onions, and other veggies on the burger (they're served to the side). I had a heaping stack of fries (good quality) and a quarter-spear of pickle on the plate as well. Very tasty. My waiter recommended a ginger beer to wash everything down with, which proved to be a most tasty choice for someone planning to drive immediately after dinner. Total after tax and tip = $20. YMMV on that ROI. When I come back to Seattle, I'll be able to drop some local knowledge by suggesting this place :)

Went to a UYE here awhile back and had a great time. I thought it was a bar --which it is--but it felt like more of a restaurant. I prefer dive bars so it was a little fancy for me to think of as a place to grab a drink, but I'm all-in for coming back to have dinner or meet a friend who has more class than myself.

  • Jeremy K.

Like the place, really good food. But, any place that doesn't take To-go orders over the phone, and by doing so requiring me to wait if I am in a hurry and just want to grab a quick bite on the go, won't earn my return business. Service is king, this place doesn't even have a website up so I can look at the menu. Not the place for a busy business owner like myself. If your in Beacon Hill and have some time, I will still say the food is dandy.

The espresso burger did not taste like espresso until I burped about an hour later. I should've order just a regular burger, and gotten the same exact burger without the caffeine fueled burp. My friend got the chili, which tasted like spaghetti sauce, and couldn't even finish half because it got too tomato-y. Would only come back for the fries and cider.

The Oak is my new second favorite place to stuff my face as of late. So far I've only sat at the corner table just inside the door but I love this table more than I love your mom. It's surrounded by windows so I can people watch (read that 'people judge') and enjoy the sunshine (assuming it's not raining cats and dogs). Every employee I've encountered thus far has been cool and friendly. That's all I ask and I don't feel it's asking too much. I dig that they put down water glasses and a glass bottle of water for the table. If you want water you can have it but if you don't it leaves more for me... but, really, you should drink more water. Another plus for me, as a non booze drinker, is they have ginger beer which is the tastier version of ginger ale. Sometimes I want to drink something other than water or in addition to water and ginger ale is just a bit... weak sauce. The burgers here are awesome! AWESOME! I straight up go T Rex on them and just stick my face into them and snuffle them up like a deranged anteater. Two 1/3 slabs of beef, cheddar cheese, bacon, green chili peppers and a fried egg on a pretty tasty bun makes for one hell of a burger. They do offer a good selection of cheese too so you can switch things up if you want. And, as if things could get any better, they have awesome fries! Seasoned perfectly so you can eat them with or without dipping sauces and just the right amount of crispy. They aren't those floppy greasy fries that you can use like Indiana Jones' whip but rather a fry that holds a bit of form while still being quite easy to cram a handful into your mouf. I'm expecting my check-ins here to soar over the coming weeks. I'm a huge fan!

That Penne and Cheese was delicious. Great ambiance and environment. The drinks were good as well. I recommend this spot. Had a great time with friends from out of the country. I will visit this spot again while in Seattle.

Cute little bar. My review is based on the food only. We stopped in midday for a late lunch and got the sloppy Joe and fried chicken sandwich. Unfortunately we were not big fans of either of them. It was just ok. Kinda pricey for what it was.

After a nice evening at this bar (4 or 5 star worthy), we got the check. The waitress/bartender brought us our bill and said "you guys look fun, I want to take a shot with you." So we said ok and answered her follow up question "what do you want to drink?" with "whiskey." So she brings us out 7 shots (there were 7 of us), but since the reason why we were taking these shots was because of her you guys look fun, I want to take a shot with you" we took an empty glass and poured out an additional shot from the 7. We then all proceed to take the shot (some nasty well whiskey, but what the hell- beggars can't be choosers) and the waitress asks "alright, who is going to pay for the shots?" Baffled, one of us gave her an additional credit card (we already had a couple down to pay our bill). Much like our waitress, hindsight is a bitch- should have never agreed to pay for those shots! Tricking people in to buying shots?!?!? On top of that, we were in the process of paying our existing bill. Shady business, left a very sour taste in our mouths (or maybe that was just the disgusting well whiskey we got tricked in to drinking and paying for.)

These are the virtues of doing only a few things, but doing them really well--they're on display here at The Oak. It's hard to believe this was a lifeless zone just a few years ago, because this stretch of Beacon Avenue has four of the cooler new spots in town, all within a couple blocks of one another. Your friendly neighborhood watering hole with the killer kitchen will be played by The Oak (the rest of the ensemble comprises the serious beer bar, the pizzeria, and the Mexican joint). You walk in and there's a bar within a bar. There are booths and banquettes and tables and a little service area in the front rooms, and then up a couple stairs there's the bar-bar with flat screens, stools, and a few more booths and tables. The barback shows a bunch of old fruit crates turned this way and that to hold the different liquors, and the bartop shows a backlit groove filled with tiny antique apothecary bottles, covered with resin. The whole thridt-store-decoration motif is milked to the fullest extent here. It's hard to figure whether these decorations were a budget-saver for them, or ended up costing as much as a less whimsical approach would have. But once this place puts some years under its belt and all the shiny surfaces get some miles on 'em, it will all look really comfortably worn in, and that'll make this place even better. So that's what you've got: stylishly resuscitated old building, brought to life with a light touch. There's a carefully edited line of about a dozen tap handles, plus another dozen beers in cans (dig that they're cans and not bottles). There's a good cocktail setup, though they don't seem to be angling for the super-trendy cocktail crowd. They're just mixing good drinks with good ingredients. Didn't see the wine list but the rest of the bar suggests they probably did a good job with that as well. The staff here is super nice--really friendly and easy-going, and very intent on making sure you're comfortable and you get what you want. Given that they're on the hill, they're clearly looking to cultivate regulars who live nearby. They're remembering what you ordered, they're remembering your favorites, they're thinking about what they have that would be to your tastes. You feel like you're at somebody's house and they expect you to keep coming over to visit. Like all the places through here, you walk out feeling like you forgot to invite them over to your place next time--because you feel like you just went to a house party, rather than a bar/restaurant. And, best of all, the food. Ridiculously good bar food. The menu is short. Just one slightly trimmed sheet of card stock, printed one side only. Two burgers, four sandwiches, two salads, a couple sides, and four entrees. The entrees sound like they could change occasionally, and there are usually specials. The burgers are fantastic--everything is fresh and scratch-made. They must not bake the buns in house, I don't imagine, but they didn't come out of a bag after a long ride in a truck, that's for sure. They're local. The entrees were pretty awesome too, from the small bites I had, but they could be bolder with the seasonings. What really stands out on the menu are the desserts. They're not the same every night, but there are a few slots on the dessert menu that always stay the same--a cake, a pie, something in a mason jar. They're just different things in each slot, as the pastry chef's whims carry the list through different permutations. The mason jar had peach cobbler last night. I'm relieved I didn't tear down the kitchen walls looking for the rest of them. Man, was it good. Really tasted like fresh fruit--not like sugar. Bottom line, this is a good neighborhood bar even if your neighborhood is 20 miles away, like mine. Come in and have a burger and hang out. You don't need an invitation.

Uhm...This bar is AWESOME! I feel silly because I was here a few weeks back and am only now writing a review. Let me explain the many reasons you will love this bar. One - it's among one of only two or three places in Beacon Hill that are actually open past 10pm. Two - It's adorable! The decor is cute, it's homey, it's friendly, it's casual. Perfect for Seattle. Three - The drink menu is crazy affordable and perfect whether you're drinking, you're not, whether you want cheap beer, local beer, fancy beer or of course, a cocktail. Four - The food is AWESOME! I couldn't actually decide what to eat so I ordered a Caprese salad and a massive burger. There was no way I could finish either dish but I had to get them because they sounded so good. And so did the rest of the menu, actually. The french fries were also great. I highly recommend anything on the menu. Whether it's a small plate, dinner, apps, shared food, etc. So yes... get here ASAP. It's adorable, there's room for large groups, small groups or even just a seat at the bar. The service was super friendly and the entire place feels like it has been there forever. Such a welcome addition to Beacon Hill!

I've eaten here a couple times, and the food has always been pretty good. I recently had their special Stumptown espresso burger (with fried egg, arugula, caramelized onions, and bacon) and it was delicious, save for kind of a squishy bun that fell apart easily. Their house salad is tasty as well; I think it's made with sesame oil so it has a great nuttiness to it. The atmosphere is quirky/standard hipster kind of vibe, with tables made from lacquered wood and road signs. No real complaints except that one of the servers was very quiet and not very friendly, but it wasn't a huge deal. The food and speed of service was still fine.

We went here for dinner tonight and it was a cool place! I liked the vibe and the space a lot. I wish they had a website or posted their menu online so I wasn't going in completely unprepared. Their menu consists mainly of sandwiches with a few other options, but clearly the sandwiches are their main focus. I had the grilled cheese sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich was OK. It was very different from a normal grilled cheese, and not really in the best way. It wasn't bad, but just not great either. The fries were really tasty though. My husband had the minimum wage burger and he LOVED it! Said it is one of the favorite burgers he has had in Seattle. Bummer I don't eat burgers lol. So, overall, not bad. Pretty good.

I really dig the vibe, nice crowd on a cool street. Food is maybe too pricey and low selection but the beers and drinks are probably what you're goin for and there's some good deals.

i can see this place being that quintessential dark, damp, yet cozy place you go to in the fall and winter in seattle. it's got good food and good drinks. i had beer. but on the day i happen to meet up with a friend, it was one of the hottest days in seattle. so we were in there and it was like an oven. i had a short sleeve shirt on, and that was the only aspect that was keeping me sane. when we finally parted ways, i went into the bathroom and changed into shorts. that made a HUGE difference in temperature comfort level of being in there. overall, it would have been better to find an bar with an outdoor patio, but those are hard t come by. i want to go back and try more food and more beer.

Came here with a big group on a Wednesday (called ahead), they had our tables all set up for us and our waitress was always there when you needed her. The burger... yum! I got the cheapest one and it was made with (I think) Painted Hills beef. This burger was the juiciest, and tastiest burger I have ever had. And it was even cooked how I requested well done! A still juicy burger gets and A+++ in my book! The fries that came with my burger were OK, I would have liked them a little more crispier and not as salty. But you could tell they were made in house and not just from a big bag of frozen fries. The drink selection included some interesting beers, cider, and a big liquor selection so there was something for everyone. This bar is just a few blocks from the Beacon Hill Light Rail station so it is easy to get to. The street parking seemed to fill up so public transportation is an easy way to get there.

Wow, Impressed! At first impression I really loved the decor of the Oak, fun arty vibe and the upstairs has dark nooks, a cool fake fire light and thoughtful seating arrangements for all! The Oak serves craft cocktails, wine and a good selection of tap micro-brews with their dinner menu. My favorite meal to order here so far is the Painted Hills Minimum Wage Burger, which is a delicious medium burger topped with your choice of lettuce, such as arugula and then your choice of toppings, (for extra fees) served with amazing frites! Man, don't miss these Frites! My hubby had the Painted Hills Sloppy Joe which also has been a favorite staple. What is great about this neighborhood joint is they did their homework! Not only do they welcome and serve whole families the full menu and drinks in their all age dining area... A few steps to the back they also welcome adult only (sometimes you don't want your chair kicked by babies) tables at the bar seating as well! Yay! everyone is happy here! So far, great food and great service, looking forward to try more of the menu items. Tip: Many restaurants in this area are closed on Sunday.. but not the Oak.

An impressive amount of delicious food. My friend and I ordered fancy burgers. Hers came with a ton of delicious fries, mine came with a ton of delicious greens. My cider was awesome, my friend was happy with some kind of fancy whisky. It's not far from my apt and a great halfway meet point between west seattle and capitol hill. The decorum is very Washingtonian. I reccommend it.

I've been here a few times and it's a safe place to go for bar food and drinks. I've had the Shepard's pie, Fried Chicken, and Grilled Cheese with Cougar mountain cheese. My favorite, as simple as it is, has been the Grilled Cheese! Their menu is very small so don't go here if you're picky I guess. The bar is usually very crowded and even if you sit at a table you must go order at the bar counter. Service in the bar is almost nonexistent, but that's ok if you're just there for some quick food and drinks.

Yum! I eat here every week. I dont drink but the food is really good. Service is nice too. I hate it when you go to a place and the server pretends to be your buddy or chats too much. Servers here are to-the-point and polite. I really appreciate that. Oh, and the pasteries are SUPER good. Great place! Nice vibes.

My husband and I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this place, so last night we decided to come check it out. It definitely lived up to my expectations! The menu is pretty small but what they offer is quite delicious. My husband had the minimum wage burger and fries and he loved it. I went with the grilled cheese. I am kind of a grilled cheese snob, and this one was great! They used Cougar Gold cheese, my favorite, and the bread was soft. Nothing worse than eating a sandwich where the bread scrapes the roof of your mouth. The fries here are really good, too. So why 4 stars instead of 5? It takes a little bit too long to get a cocktail, and the bartender did not know how to make a cosmo, a pretty common cocktail and one of my favorites. It should be a pretty, light pink color, not dark red. I can see myself coming here regularly to have a cocktail or two and would love it if they could get that one right! Other than that, everything was great. Pleasant service, good food, and a nice atmosphere. Very glad to have them in the neighborhood. We'll be back!

Yum! Nice environment. The chicken is delicious. BUT for a burger/chicken place how do they not serve any after 9 or something?! So strange... At least sliders or something should be offered. Pot pie and weird oven food is what's served after dinner time.

A great neighborhood bar. The decor is simple and very local bar style, not to be confused with dive bar decor. The lines are lined with booths and there is seating at the bar. The place is small and seats less than 50. The vibe is very comfortable, it seems like the type of place that encourages to sit and stay a while. Now for the goods: the drinks are good. I ordered manhattans and they were well made. The bartender seemed to be working harder and faster than everyone else, but that may be because people order more drinks than anything else here. I had a burger and it was also pretty good, building your own burger makes it easy to be satisfied by you meal. If you live in the area, then you have no excuse not to check this place out! It's one of the few real/good bars in the area.

Great atmosphere and staff, and their grilled cheese sandwich is the best I've ever had anywhere. They sometimes offer a burger special with espresso-rubbed beef, arugula, bacon and I fried egg. It's pretty amazing.

They dropped the steak and frites from the menu! It was one of the best things on the menu. Thy added yet another chicken dish to replace the steak. Oak, if your reading this, bring it back.

Given that this place is just a few blocks from my house, I have no excuse for how long it took me to try it out. Dropped by with my 9-year old for an early dinner on a warm Saturday afternoon. The dining area was empty when we arrived at 4:30 but was filling up when we left an hour later. My son had the Minimum Wage burger, which was huge - he ate half and brought the rest home. The frites were also excellent - freshly cut and cooked. I had the caprese and the balsamic side salad. Both had a little too much vinegar for my taste, but overall were quite good. Pros: Prompt Service Quality food Nice atmosphere Cons: Small menu We'll be back, and hope to try the brunch as well.

Beacon Hill is definitely up and coming, and places like the Oak are great additions to the neighborhood. The place is chill and has a great vibe. There is a smaller bar in the back, which is a great place to spend a few hours in a dark yet inviting space. While the draft beer selection isn't huge, it's well-chosen. There is a good selection of booze as well, and a bar menu that is surprisingly good. The minimum wage burger was one of the tastiest and juiciest burgers that I have had in a while - smaller in size but a little thicker than your average burger. Served with either salad or fries, it makes for a perfect bar meal. The Oak may be small in size and offerings, but with high quality and friendly service, it's a great place for hipsters and normal folks alike.

I was really disappointed in the food here. As a bar, it's a fun place - so I'm giving it three stars. As for the actual bar food - all I can say is "bland." I had the vegan chili - and while it looked like it would be delicious - it was seriously lacking flavor, and it's not b/c it was vegan! It had some spice to it, but it still was missing some real flavor. Additionally, the two crackers that come with it were an unsatisfying combination. Give me some cornbread or a roll. My friends and I also ordered the green salad. Ok, perhaps this is our own fault but for $4.95 - the green salad is JUST THAT. A small handful of spring lettuce mix with some dressing. No tomatoes, no carrots, no extras. A HUGE ripoff. My friend ordered the penne - and it also was very bland. However, my other friend ordered the minimum wage burger and she was quite happy with it. I'd probaby stick to the burgers here...the other food was just boring.

I really want to like The Oak, but the first time I went there the medium burger I asked for was clearly undercooked to the point of dubious legality. During subsequent visits the food has been alright, but the service is random. The capper that got me to write a review was discovering tonight that they will do food to go, but won't take orders over the phone. The hell with that. Instead of walking to The Oak for a pickup, we're driving to Blue Moon on Capitol Hill and pick it up. I wish this neighborhood business was up to the standard of others that have opened recently, both in quality of food and respect for its customers. If Tippe and Drague had burgers, I'd never be tempted by The Oak again.

I REALLY wanted to like this place. It's close to my home and just seems like it could be a great spot...but it''s not. I've tried this place multiple times recently (hey, I'm a hopeful kind of girl) and here's what I've found. The burgers are decent, I'd give them a 7 out of 10, however the fries have been sub-standard every time. The only dessert I've had there ( a big cupcake) was tasty, but overpriced for what it was, just like the rest of the food. One thing that is consistent is the crappy service; I have never left feeling anything less than annoyed with the bad attitude and/or lacking service of the server.

Woah, burgers! I was surprised to taste just how powerfully delicious this little bar's burger really is. Super juicy and flavorful meat. The arugala added a nice bite to it. And those truffle fries! Mmm. It's a hip place with interesting decor - street signs used as tables, cute tiny vases with freshly picked flowers. The thing that really threw me off was how our hipster server didn't clean up some broken glass. There were 2 servers up front with about 6-7 tables when a man accidentally knocked over and shattered a candle holder. A minute or so goes by of this customer picking up broken glass until our server shows up. She just looks over the mess and walks off. Over the next 20 minutes we were there, nobody cleaned it up or blocked it off. It wasn't out in the middle of the dining area, but it could still be dangerous. It literally would have taken someone 2 minutes to sweep it up and not make the place look so damn ratchet. Besides that, though... Yummy food.

I'm was so happy to see a new place open on BHill and I'm THRILLED to see that it's high quality and delicious! My friend and her three year old daughter and I decided to split a few things. I'm glad we did because the portions were generous. We split a minimum wage burger, the caprese salad, and a slice of caramelized banana brownie. The adults each had a cider from the tap. The whole meal was delicious and South Seattle priced. We really liked the fun and cool atmosphere and that while there were plenty of other children there (who were welcomed), it didn't feel like a "kid" place. All of the food was well cooked and seemingly made from fresh local ingredients. The menu featured some unique sandwiches which I'd be tempted to try next time we go - except the burger was so dang good! My favorite quote from the three year old, "these fries are better than the ones you make at home, mommy!" Please note that these fries are truly fabulous.

This place is great. I appreciate the smaller menu and beer selection. It just means they do those food well and the kegs get changed out regularly. I love heading up to the bar after work to get a beer and a minimum wage burger. Great way to wind down. The atmosphere is very relaxed but there's an also an energy in the place that makes it seem alive. From the little antiques built into the bar, baseball themed plates like the ones I had as a kid, to their affinity for mason jars; this place, simply, exudes cool honesty. I look forward to every visit.

Not far from my house, have been there a few times. Default dinner spot when I don't want to travel too far. Food is top notch and really dig their beer/drink selection. A bit pricey, but worth it. The waitstaff is... interesting, but really friendly. Burger aficionados, keep an eye out for their "Herman The German" special, it's the most delicious thing I've ever tasted, ever. Also, try any desert they offer "in a jar". Actually, all of their deserts are phenomenal (I'm not a big desert guy, but holy shit, tasty for days.) Nice ambience, family-friendly in the early evening. Haven't spent much time in the bar, pretty sure that's where the cool kids are.

Another food journey with my father, meaning he sat there watching my brother and I eat, then paid. We went in only a few minutes after they opened, but there were already people in there. This is one of the neighborhood joints, so I am always biased going in. I really wanted to like the food, but I was disappointed. My brother had a burger with fries, and thank goodness for the fries. I ended up eating most of his fries because I hated my salad. I am normally not the salad-ordering type of girl, but they had my favorite strawberry walnut salad, so I gave it a chance. My salad was just not fresh, a slight exaggeration would be calling it a bag salad with strawberry preserves. It wasn't that bad, but I was decently upset after the waitress kept saying the strawberries were fresh blaming the vinaigrette, came back with a small cup of equally wimpy strawberries w/o vinaigrette. They charged $2 extra for the small cup, but by that point I didn't care because my favorite salad was ruined. I did enjoy the decor, I've had some decent desserts there and if I was drinking age, I would have probably liked it more since there is a bar. All rounding my mediocre experience to A-ok.

The chicken pot pie had good flavor. But it was served lukewarm. The French fries were cold. Service was ok. 2 servers and all the tables were full. Order a pitcher of beer and they brought us a glass of beer.

The Oak is not the worst place that I have been and I am pretty adventurous with food but this was just meh!! Bland food, minimal service and a real tiny menu that just did not make a lot of sense, I live in the neighborhood but just can bring myself to go back anytime soon.

Food is pretty good. We've been there a couple times. The first time we had excellent service and everything was good even though they had just opened that week. The last couple times we've gone...the service is SLOW. You really have to get their attention if you want service. It's ok if you're just wanting a drink and you go straight to the bar in the back. They also usually have a lot of screaming children in there, which is annoying when you're trying to get your drink on. Better to go on a non-busy weekday if you're wanting dinner service.

I've been back a twice since my original review, and I am converted. They updated the bun on their burger to one that is fresher, higher quality, and all around more delightful. They'll add a fried egg to your burger, not that you need it. The fries are heaping, absolutely HEAPING. They're slightly soft, skin-on, and perfectly salted - just delicious. The mac and cheese is delicious and perfectly proportioned, and for only a dollar or two more they'll add either chicken or bacon. The cheese isn't gritty, it's got a complex flavor, and this is one of the few places where the mac and cheese is still good even when it starts to get cold while you eat it. And the beer! The happy hour! You can get a beer for $3.50 all day on Sunday or during normal happy hour hours, and they have the Irish Death Stout on tap - plus our other more typical favorites, like Manny's or Blue Moon. Haven't tried their cocktails, but spotted another table that did - and apparently they are served in cute mason jars with a straw. Adorable. See also: the bathroom and bar decor. (The bathroom is decorated with cute vintage postcards instead of wallpaper, and I think I swooned when I saw it.) This is quickly becoming a new favorite local hangout that I encourage all my neighbors to try out - but even if you don't live on Seattle's Other Hill, it's a short two blocks from the lightrail and in a neighborhood with plenty of street parking. Try it out!

The Oak is a swank little neighborhood tavern and a great addition to Beacon Hill! Rustic Americana settings greet you as you enter the cozy surroundings. They have a dining/family area in the lower end of the restaurant and an upper bar with a sports bar type lounge. I've tried a couple of their dinners, the double bacon cheeseburger nicknamed "overtime" with an arugula salad was killer, and the painted hills beef sloppy joe with fried egg on top and frites was interesting. As a fan of interesting micros, they had a Irish Death ale by Iron Horse and a double barrel ale on tap. The missus had one of their delicious ciders. If you're a coffee fan, they have brewed Verite coffee and bags of beans to go.

Great news Beacon Hill! Now, if you don't feel like waiting to get into Bar del Corso you have a nice place just down the street to go to. Although, it might not be long before The Oak starts filling up too. This is a solid bar with really good, casual food: burgers, steak and frites, penne and cheese to mention just a few. They do a good job of sourcing local, quality ingredients, painted hills beef, cougar gold cheese and portions are more than generous. Decent beer selection and full bar.

One trip to The Oak and this much was clear: We are coming back here A LOT. Like every week a lot. Or twice a week a lot. So good. Three big things won me over. The first: Spire Dry & Dark Cider on tap. BEST damn pint of hard cider I've ever had. As a gluten-free girl who misses her beer this cider is by far the next best thing. I may even have loved it more than my old beers... And only $4.50! Second: Painted Hills beef. As a post-vegetarian now trying to support sustainably-raised, humanely-treated ranchers I was thrilled to see that The Oak carries such eco-conscious, animal-husbandry-minded beef. And it was SO good. Even in just the plain old minimum wage burger. I'm drooling a bit just writing this, honestly. Third: Great atmosphere. Didn't venture into the bar this trip but loved the quiet, calm feel of the restaurant. Someone in my party was a bit annoyed that the wall murals depicted evergreens (Not Oaks) but I didn't care. Everything about the decor was cute and homey a little kitchy, very comfy. I can't recommend The Oak highly enough. Oh man, I want to go back right now...

We came in twice. Once with friends. Once as a family. Pros: A new business on Beacon Hill. Plenty of beer choices. Good food. Back bar is a sweet atmosphere for small groups of friends to disappear into great conversations. Free street parking. Some of the wait and bar staff are really great. Cons: No kids portions/prices makes it a hard choice for parents to swallow as a regular "let's go out for dinner!" option. Some of the wait and bar staff come across as pretentious, which is what we try to avoid by not going to Capitol Hill. As a single person, I'd most likely give this place 4 stars, but speaking as someone with the experience of having a small family, I can only give it 3. All in all, a good option for grabbing a beer or two with friends and a delicious burger while you're at it. The price point is decent for an adult sized appetite and thirst to quench.

I had a great time here about a month ago and I don't know if they fired the cook or if it was just an off day, but me and my friends wish we'd just stuck with our plan of taking a cab thru Burger King. Everything came out over done and sad. Also, my salad tasted like bad Paggliacci, unwashed lettuce and un tossed. Maybe I was just too wasted to notice that the first time I came in? Seems like most people just like it because there's nothing else around.

Came here on a Friday night with the hubs and two friends - the bar (which looked really cool, actually) was full, restaurant probably half full. Oak has a great ambiance, all wood paneling, vintage decor, and soft lighting. The staff were very helpful in that they accommodated my request to make the poutine (one of the specials) vegetarian with vegan chili instead of meaty sloppy joe mix. It was awwwwwwesome! Basically fancy chili cheese fries, but I am totally cool with that. Everyone else was very happy with their food as well, including the hubs, who had the burger (and he is a bit of a connoisseur). They also have very well-priced, large, and strong cocktails which is always a plus (and in fun Mason jar drinking mugs!). My husband was thrilled to find they offer $1.50 cans of Hamm's. Their dessert menu looked amazing. Like so many great finds in Seattle, be sure to hit this place up before the hipsters find it.

I had their minimum wage burger and it was so awesome - maybe the best burger I ever had! The sauce was really flavorful; the bun was soft, warm and enveloped the tasty patty perfectly. I also loved the fresh simple greens that came with it. I liked the low key atmosphere and friendly staff too. Would def go back and recommend!

Service is definitely spotty but they are usually very nice. The minimum wage burger is one the best burgers I have ever tasted. They also give tons of great fries on the side. This is all I ever order. They also have cool beer glasses shaped like a beer can. Very cool.

So many reviews of The Oak start with, "I really wanted to like this place." Yeah...well...me too. I try. I mean, I REALLY want to like this place. The food is ok. They have a decent burger. The salad is only mixed greens drenched in vinaigrette. The macaroni & cheese was ok. But that's just it...it's only ok. I don't understand the service. It's consistently rude. I always have to get out of my seat for more water & I'm left with the feeling I'm just not cool enough. The employees are more interested in each other and whatever else they have going on in their lives then actually performing their job duties....i.e. Customer service. I can pay less for better service and better food elsewhere. Why do I keep coming back here? Well, if you live in the neighborhood....it's one of only a few places. Lately though, my friends and I choose not to go here. It starts with, "The Oak is walking distance." Then someone (not usually me) says, "Yeah, but the service there is terrible & I always feel like I'm making the bartender angry" ....which is funny...because that's exactly how I feel. If I wanted to be treated like an asshole, I'd go to Vivace in SLU.

We had a rough experience. The bar seems like a good atmosphere, but service was terrible. Our waiter forgot to put the order in for our food for about 20 minutes, then said he'd put them in, apologized and offered to buy our beers and asked us if we'd like another round, which we accepted. When our food finally came out, one plate was still incorrect and had to go back. All was ok up to this point...mistakes happen. The most frustrating part was, when our bill came out, our waiter had charged us for the second round of beers, which he offered to pay for and, when I asked about it, he said he only meant the first round and wouldn't cover the full amount. Very frustrating. 2 stars only because I like the feel and am excited to see new businesses on Beacon Hill! Hopefully the next experience will be better.

Yay! I'm so glad The Oak has come to Beacon Hill. My first dining experience was a great one. Their beer selection is primarily based on Georgetown Brewery, but they expand to other beers. I had their burger and fries, which were delicious. The service was prompt and our server was very personable. I'll definitely come back here... especially to try the sloppy joe (painted hills beef) with the fried egg on top.

I love this little neighborhood bar. Every time I've gone I've had great food and a great experience. Great mix of people there--truly south seattle style. We usually sit in the back bar and the bartender is very friendly. The Chimichurri Chicken burger is super yummy and the signature cocktails are great. I see other reviews about bad bartenders and I have yet to experience this myself.

Best chicken sandwich I have ever had. No joke. All the toppings and seasoning worked with the bun and how the chicken was cooked (moist by the way). Had a side of soy bean cooked fries, good as well. Their beer was pretty good as well. To dessert; it works. I don't know if the peach crisp and cheesecake was a no-bake type or simply they are just blended and put together with fresh ingredients but they are unbelievable. I will be heading back to this place regardless if the waiter checks me out.

Great burger and the usual beers here(Manny's and such). I Have only ever sat in the bar(good atmosphere and pretty dark) and the host in front is always really nice too. Bartender has seemed pretty busy most times I've been here. It has taken a while to get the check or another drink a few times-even sitting at the bar, maybe I'm not assertive enough... Fish sandwich was good too.

Great place for burgers & beer. If you're in the bar & it's a crowd, good luck w/ service - it can be a wait. Coming around 5-7 is great, especially if there's no game on the tv. The chili is amazing - both the vegetarian & meat version.

We've been here twice now. First time was opening night and it was packed. Cocktails and beer were delish, the apple crisp was just ok, but I'll forgive them since they just opened. Went for dinner tonight (Sunday/8pm) and it was pretty busy but the waiter was really attentive and took care of us. He got a few things wrong, but overall really good. We had the burger and it was really tasty (and for $9, a deal!). the fries are awesome! My partner had the sloppy joe and it was also tasty. The atmosphere is fun and casual and such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Totally excited to see how they refine their service and their food, but right now, totally tasty and a great deal.

GREAT FRIENDLY STAFF! A group of about 20 people went in there last night and the staff was beyond friendly and welcoming. I ate here lastnight. Great atmosphere and friendly wait staff. The menu was very limited. I ordered a burger with no may and recieved a overcooked meat patty on a bun with nothing else on it. No tomato or lettuce, etc. She apologized and brought me the fixings. My friend ordered fries, the first ones were cold, but the chef came right out with fresh hot ones. They were delish then. To apologize they brought a great brownie dessert to share. Overall, decent experience and I would return just for the convenience of the location.

This place was awesome! I grew up in Seattle but don't live here anymore so don't know as many of the newer spots. I went here with some friends for drinks and loved it! The Oak has been a great addition to Beacon Hill. There are always vegetarian options and they have been great, the service is awesome and the beer selections are good. It would be nice if they would keep at least one of the front rooms open later, because I have gone a few times to find the bar section completely full. But it's definitely a great neighborhood spot.

My second time to The Oak on Beacon Hill, and I'll be going back soon. The chicken sandwich is pretty amazing. It's kind of hard to call it a sandwich though,It's more like two big pieces of delicious fried boneless chicken breast served on a bun. This is served with arugula, and a great spicy sauce. The fries are also delicious. Was it too much? I wish I could say it was, but I devoured every last bit,. Next time I will try the Catfish sandwich, but for now the Chicken sandwich is my new fave. The wait staff is really friendly, efficient, and welcoming. The place is just amazingly comfortable.

I was really excited for this place to open, but left feeling incredibly disappointed. The servers were nice, but no real service in the bar ( you have to tell the bartender every time you want something, even if you're not seated at the bar). The low score is because I ordered the blackened catfish and was seriously offended by the food I received. The catfish came on a hoagie, much like you'd find at Safeway in a 6 pack and was slathered in what they claimed was an "aioli" sauce. In reality, this sauce was just straight up horseradish that was about 1/4" thick on the bun. The horseradish completely killed my tastebuds and for all I know, I was eating a frozen fish stick. My boyfriend ordered a burger, which again came on an unimpressive grocery store bun. If I wanted food like that, I would have stayed home to make it myself. The only solid part of the meal were the fries...but how hard can that be? Hopefully they refine their menu and actually taste what they're serving. Until then, the Oak is probably just good for drinks.

Not ACORN-y bar. Driving by it seems like it might be a flat, curbside fishbowl. But no. You walk in and up the stairs into a nice dark cozy space in the back. Staff was friendly and prices reasonable. No ginger ale, but points for ginger beer. A welcomed new watering hole for Beacon Hill.

this placed disrespected a long time resident of Beacon Hill of 25 years!!. several friends took me to this place to have a beer and snacks... we asked the bartender to change the music and he retorted that bartender preferences ruled..we asked what the owners policy was..customer or bartenders preferences..he stated bartenders...by then we cussed a bit...as he got us upset..this is a redneck place!!!..they owe an apologize..to us..i asked for the owners number and they would not give one...is this what gentrification is all about?

What a great place! My daughter and I walked in last night ---had a choice of sitting in the main dining area or the bar. We dined in the bar and had a fantastic experience. We had the catfish sandwich (last one before they sold out!) and the hamburger. Delicious!! The fries - done perfectly! Had to have a piece of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting....heavenly! We had a glass of red wine and a Mannys and it was under $40. This will be our Saturday night place to be...cannot wait to enjoy the other items on the menu, although that burger is PERFECT! The owners and the staff are genuine and friendly and amazing!

I love oak! The food is amazing, the staff is friendly and make me feel appreciated. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. They have a great selection of beer and cocktails including fine scotches. Also, Oak's vegan options will make your mouth water. In fact, that's all I order! The corner tables feel awkward when you l sit on the bench facing a group of strangers at the next table which is positioned just inches from yours. I feel like it makes the group of strangers uncomfortable as well. I much prefer the booths in the bar and, when I'm able to sit there, my guest and I purchase an average of 2 more beers each than when we are seated in the dining room. The bartender with mohawk and mustache regularly comes off as in a bad mood and he's not very attentive or personable. Everyone else is stellar. I'll keep coming back at least once every 2 weeks as long as Oak keeps making those amazing vegan burgers! The vegan grilled cheese is also a treat! Thank you, Oak, for being awesome. :)

If I lived nearby I would probably tolerate the bull$h1t and stop by - but if this isn't a local haunt for you I wouldn't recommend it. We had such a bizarre experience with the service from beginning to end. The bartender seemed friendly but our waitress acted like she was in prison the whole time. She walked by at least 5 times, a good 15 minutes before acknowledging us and taking our orders. Despite her glare we tried our best to exchange pleasantries. When we asked how she was doing, she rolled her eyes and said "I'm really hot, to be honest." And then stared at us blankly, never smiling. Welllllll ok! Sorry? The bartender brought us the wrong drinks. The dark and stormy we ordered was so bad we didn't drink it but no one ever noticed or asked us about it, even though it sat untouched for an hour + After getting the wrong drinks, we got our food with the wrong sides. Our waitress noticed but we were absolutely starving at that point and declined waiting for the right sides to be made. It was sad that nothing further was done about all the wrongness - I don't think they really cared all that much. But at the end of the day, our food was really good!!! The kitchen is firing on all cylinders. We got a decked out burger and a veggie burger and they were both great. We each loved our food even with them both being so different. So overall the food is good! The mixed drinks and the service were absolutely horrible. Inexcusable. If I were in the area again I'd go, but I wouldn't go out of my way for this place and I would encourage the owners to get better servers.

This place sucks! The food is so good, the drinks and the food come so fast, there is so much tasty shit on the menu, I only finished half my burger and had no room for dessert. Just to show them who the hell is boss, I'm going to go back here and start with my dessert and work my way towards soup. Jesus man!!! Don't be so good!!!

Good selection of draft beer, one cider on tap (square mile cider) and two bottled cider options (schilling ginger and crispin dry). Good happy hour specials ($5 bourbon and 16oz Olympia) and fun happy hour foods. Not too family friendly (no booster seats, limited high chairs, glass cups, no changing tables), but good for adults and small groups/couples. Bar at back with TV. Street parking only. Slow food service... SO slow. Come with no rush, for your sake. The waitress was sweet and semi-attentive but that couldn't make up for the fact that we waited 32 minutes for our food. The food is pretty good, but too bland for the price tag. The chili was ok, nothing to be excited about unfortunately ... The bacon cheeseburger is good, but so greasy. The cbgb or chipotle/garlic aioli is the best part of it. Will definitely come to check this place out again and order from happy hour menu!!

This is a fun little neighborhood pub with several vegetarian options. Their beer selection, while not huge, had some great selections. The quirky waiter was attentive and gave very helpful suggestions. I wish I lived closed to The Oak, I'd most certainly come in many more times!

A local neighborhood bar worth venturing out of downtown to try. The front part has a bar with seating and then there is a back part with another bar and more seating. Each bar serves an assortment of local beers and ciders. They were out of the hefe I wanted to try and the bartender encouraged me to try a pale ale that they called the lemonade of beer and it tasted almost like a sour beer to me. I really liked it. The menu is somewhat limited to mostly burgers and a few small plates. You have many burger options and you can get fries or a side salad. My friends went with the burgers which were served on very fresh, hardy rolls. The side salad was huge with lots of fresh local lettuce. The fries are served with mayonnaise which is weird for an east coaster but worth a try. I decided to go with the mac and cheese which was served with bread crumbs on top and very cheesy sauce. The bowl looked small but filled me up! For a Saturday afternoon it was not terribly crowded and they have happy hour from 4-6 (very cool on weekends too) with $1 off all drafts and a special happy hour menu.

Been here a bunch of times for drinks and food. Fantastic vegan chili! And the drinks are high end without a super hefty price tag. Kinda loud music sometimes, lots of tattoos.

Went here once with my girlfriends awhile ago. I was excited to have a burger joint in the BH area and I always love me a good burger..but I felt like the burgers were definitely mediocre. My cousin got the special espresso burger and it tasted like a regular burger. Maybe it wasn't seasoned well? There was just something off. I would have rather had a 5 guys or red robin. The waitress was nice but pressuring us on the drinks which got annoying. Anyways, if I was really reallllllly craving a burger I guess I can try it out again..but I would rather go somewhere else. Parking is relatively easy since its in a neighborhood area. Prices are average to higher.

Came here for drinks and food after the Seahawks game. Their Austin Mule was delicious! The ginger beer was nice but wasn't overwhelming in the cocktail. Will be coming back to try more cocktails. Ordered their rally fries, which included minced garlic and parsley served with mayo. So so good! Want to try some of the burgers and sandwiches next time! Decent prices and a nice happy hour! A nice neighborhood bar and great place to chill.

Amazing burgers, amazing chicken sandwiches! Really friendly staff! Everything else is great too! And great decor! Bring you kid in. Or you could go to the bar! Thank you for coming to Beacon Hill!!!! But don't order take out (that's where I docked one *)- bc they will make you come in and order it there, then they say something weird like "oh we are out of to go bags..." "Or we don't have to go containers..." Please please figure out the to go stuff bc we love you so, OAK! Or as my mom calls you, The Acorn ;)

So very close to 5 stars, but not there yet! The food is still good (the desserts are still fun and delicious, like the tuxedo cake with raspberry sauce) and most days, the service is friendly and engaged. I had the Herky fried chicken sandwich, which was new since I had been in last and oooooh it was butterball food if I've ever had it! 3 strips of chicken that could have honestly been half a bird for all I could tell. The chicken was crispy and seasoned right! Their soft bun crushed down to the right hand-grip size so I could use all my strength to keep all the chicken together as I took a bite. And their hand-cut fries are exactly the way I like them. Twice-fried Belgian frites are everywhere nowadays but quality single-fry are harder to find. The only misstep is that there's one guy that is...kind of a flange. He's too brusque for such a friendly neighborhood bar. You know, the guy that won't make eye contact with you at all until he's "ready" to look at you? Eye contact doesn't mean we're married, bro. Just acknowledge that you see me in the throng of people vying for a drink so I know I don't have to do the eager-and-hopeful-leaning-posture-slash-facial expression while standing at the bar. The prices are the same as you would find on Capitol Hill at a quality bar, and it doesn't bother me a bit. I'll pay more to support my 'hood.

Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. My husband liked the bacon cheeseburger. The grilled cheese tasted like burned cheese, was super greasy and the fries, although plentiful were over salted. Too bad, they're walking distance from our house.

Stuffy bar with super greasy grilled cheese yet pleasant service not a super fancy place but one of the only ones in the area. I would rather stay home. Not sure why there was a crowd. Maybe I tried the wrong things on the menu. Ambiance was hipster divey and in a pinch does some of the trick

After driving after Seattle for an hour trying to find a sports bar to watch the Stanley cup playoffs, we finally found a place with TV and easy parking outside to watch the game. The place is actually cute on the inside. The front is restaurant style and the back has a bar and two TVs. I would definitely come back here!!

Nice and cozy! Great food and drinks! Have went there a couple of times for date nite with my boyfriend. Love having it in our neighborhood. Good home cooking. Great desserts. No compliants. We had a burger, and it was really really good with fresh veggies on it. Will be back again for sure.

This review is just based on the burgers. I had the breakfast burger and my sig. other had another special burger from the blackboard. The burgers, 14$, were overpriced and way overcooked. No pink in the middle!??! on top of that, the patties were not seasoned.. ** SOBBBB * The toppings like the arugula and caramelized onions were just barely there.. like a Brazilian bikini on a burnt bun ... **tear tear** The fries were not bad though. like a better and thicker Dick's fries. idk.. maybe if the patties were cooked just right then it could have been good... or Idk maybe it was just an off night? -_- i wanted to like this place and I wanted Beacon hill to have a good neighborhood spot cuz that one pizza spot and el queztal spot isn't that great either. I guess I would come back if i was snowed in with no food in the fridge. heh.

Why didn't they have these places on Beacon Hill when I was growing up here? Nice, not fancy, place right on Beacon Avenue. Perfect lighting, a little loud with the grade school soccer team, bar located up some stairs towards the back, immediate greeting, what more could you ask for? Couldn't decide between the burger (adding mushrooms and swiss) or the fried chicken and fries. Chose the burger but my dinner companion ordered the chicken so I could filch some chicken skin off of her plate. This place has a full bar so we had a couple birthday drinks. For dessert we ordered the chocolate and vanilla cupcake and the apple hand pie. Unfortunately we didn't see that the cupcake was gluten free, and it was just as I expected.... dry.... like bone dry. We ended up eating just the very top and the frosting. It was $80 for three people, including tip, which wasn't that unreasonable.

Went there with my wife after a long day at work. We've lived near by for a few months and never made it by, and I'm sad we waited so long. Food was awesome. Great atmosphere. Server spoke really softly, but was great and had some cool blue hair. I had the Patty Melt burger that was on sourdough bread with mushrooms, onions, and some awesome sauce. Definitely not your traditional burger, but was really tasty. Would have liked the burger to be a little less done, but still tasted good. Tons of fries came with it and they were scrumptious. My wife had the Chimchurri chicken sandwich. Also really good. They had Bedford's Ginger Beer (from Port Angeles) which was so tasty. I really liked the food here. Sure it was greasy. It's a bar/burger place. What did you expect. Maybe a little overpriced. Still, I enjoyed it. We plan to go back.

We came here before a sounders game, so 5 o'clock on a weekend day. There was maybe 3-4 tables and not full at all, but it literally took us 35-40 minutes to get our food. Not sure what the issue was, and no explanation was given, we just waited, and waited, and waited.... and we didn't order anything complicated. Just a bowl of chili (5 minutes in the microwave, max) and a minimum wage burger with cheese (10 minutes on the grill for medium, max.) The food was just okay. Wished we had gone to Tippe & Dragge next door after we were done.

First time here! Came for the sloppy joes! Oh no, it was taken off the menu and replaced by a bacon burger! Lots of vegan options. Servers started off being a bit aloof. Had a dbl cheese burger with smoked bacon. Great fries, ok burger. Music was too loud to carry on a conversation. Fun space & nice crowd.

Key Takeaways: Good ambience, decent service, don't order the chili I was taking a few friends out for dinner. I've walked by this place several times so I decided to go there. It was a great experience! They don't take reservations on Saturday. We went about 7:30 with a party of 4. We were able to get a table within 20 minutes. And the table was the best in the house, by itself, next to the window. The service was good. Nothing spectacular but appropriate. Our drinks and food arrived timely and we weren't interrupted that much by an overzealous waiter (my pet peeve). The drinks were amazing. I had my signature Negroni and it tasted just like it should. I only mention it because more often than not, it is made poorly at other establishments. The brussel sprouts and frites were delicious! The sprouts were crunchy and very flavorable. I would highly recommend. My boyfriend got the beet sandwich and he loved it. I ordered the chili and it was actually pretty bland and the corn bread was dry. That is why I gave 4 stars. Overall, we were there for a few hours and enjoyed it. The food came out at a good speed that allowed us to have a drink, eat apps and then the mains. It's always nice when the apps come out before the mains :)

Been here several times now. Still not impressed with that burger, but I've discovered that their house salad is great. That, and a side a frites would be my go-to. At least a couple of great beers are consistently on tap, which is also good. One thing I cannot get over is the service in the non-bar area - every single time, it ranges from awkward to disinterested. I'm not expecting a TGI Friday's flair here, but could they not give the impression that they are tolerating customers instead of serving them? I'd probably come here more often if not for the dread of feeling like I'm inconveniencing the servers' by cutting into their hangout time.

I'm in love with this place. The food's great, they're super "special needs" friendly (gluten-free, vegan aware, etc.). The staff are friendly and fun. Pro tip: order the curried chickpeas and take half home to scramble in eggs the next day ... NOM.

Had a nice meal here on an early Friday night. Got the Patty melt, was delish especially dipped in the spicy side sauce. My husband got the fried chicken (he loved it but I thought was a bit too salty). My son got a burger with bacon and loved his and the fries. Nice roll for the burger. The music was a good mix too-not your typical stuff. Didn't have drinks but had a lot of non-alcoholic options too. My husband loved the ginger beer. Will definitely come back to try a few other things. Service was good at first but once the place filled up got really slow to get our check. Seemed like the bar in back was busy and waitress was going between both areas, seemed a bit stretched thin.

This review is about the bar. And I do love it so. Barkeeps are nice and attentive, but also do not take crap from people, which I actually appreciate greatly. Beer selection keeps us happy with 2 IPAs often on tap. Food has always been fine, nothing earth-shattering, but occasionally amazing (homemade ice cream sandwich, I'm talking about you). My most favorite thing is the general vibe of the place: laid-back, kinda dark, and small. I'm almost embarrassed to admit how disappointed I am when we show up and they are full.

It's a fun, neighborhood bar that's frequented by the same Beacon Hill residents that the bartenders always remember. My best friend lives in the area and as soon as we sit at the bar every time we pop in here, the bartender knows what beer to pour for him. The beer is served in libbey can-shaped beer glasses, and they always have Lucille IPA on tap. The food is awesome. They have hand-cut fries served with homemade aioli that's similar to mayo. There are corn nuggets that may not sound appealing, but is a little explosion of melted, warm corn kernels that is surprisingly good. The burgers are solid, but the chicken sandwich is what you really should order. It's dark meat, what I prefer, that is extra crispy. It's freakinggg awesome!

$5 for a HUGE shot of bourbon and an Oly? Hell yea. Deep fried corn was amazing. It was pretty full on a Sunday night when I went. I will have to check on it on a normal weekend to see how poppin' it is. I'm interested in trying the food next time too!

So I feel like I'm walking in the twilight zone when I step through the door. The room was dark, and the decor was like from a vampire music. Continuous music of things like a slow version of the Cure, and some goth music played in the background. Servers aren't in a hurry, and there was a theme of no emotion in the room. No smile, no suggestions, no interest, no talk of the food. The tables were sticky, too dark to tell what the stickiness was. Food was mediocre, a strange mix of burgers and vegan options. Expensive burger! Don't forget to ask for napkins! The server is too busy making sure a hair on her head isn't out of place!

We've been eating at the Oak regularly for the last two years. We went every week when their burgers were incredible; they've since switched the buns, thrown over the awesome aged cheddar for basic Tillamuck, and maybe changed the meat, too? The burgers are still good, they just aren't amazeballs. They have a nice selection of beers, make a good cocktail, have a lot of vegan and gluten free options to suit all our friends & family, make rockin' fries, and offer delicious desserts in mason jars. My wife, who is vegetarian, raves about the porcini burger. They stopped allowing half fries/half salad with the burgers, which is a real shame, because you either have to forgo some of the best fries around, gorge yourself, or waste a ton of food. The menu is expanding since they got new ownership, and the hand pies on Sundays (and late nights) are fantastic. Also really good: pot pie, tofu sandwich and brussel sprouts when them have them. I recommend the gluten free bun - its got a little more flavor than the white (gluten) bun which is kind of big and dry. We love the wait staff and have never had a bad night at the Oak. Family friendly, but really loud when full.

If you're looking for a nice, intimate place to eat and hang out without being overpriced, or pretentious, this is it. The decor is simple and clean. Walls appear to be reclaimed wood, which adds to the laid back atmosphere. The adult drinks are tasty, and well made with adequate amounts of alcohol. They carry Coke products thankfully, and no RC despite being a "hipster-esque" establishment. Food was ample, well prepared, and plated very well. The are on the larger portion side though. I highly suggest the Penne and Cheese. Our waitress was tatted up with seafoam green hair, and absolutely delightful. I can't say one bad thing about this place. I wish I lived closer. I'd be a regular. Cheers.

I can't believe we've lived in Seattle for almost 8 years and have never eaten at this gem! Aside from a bit of shoddy service (it wasn't that busy, beers while waiting for our table were extremely slow), this place is excellent. I had the "Patty Melt - Painted Swiss Burger" - and it was glorious. Firm, hard bread that kept an amazingly juicy and moist burger inside, and the mixture of Swiss, onions and shrooms was perfect. Oh and their beer selection is great! Definitely going back.

As a Californian this place is soooooo good & my favorite local spot in Seattle! Pro: -great friendly service!! -must have: fried chicken sandwich & bomb fries (extra sauce yessss) -must have:Austin mule..taste like an adult ginger ale -great ambience all around Con: -no fried chicken sandwich on their late night menu but still a good late night spot

Happy to have this in the neighborhood. The front is family friendly and the back a bar. Tons of space and its not too loud, not too busy. 2 TVs in the back bar for sports and such. + Chicken and Chips was amazing - great friend chicken breast and thigh. Breaded nicely and fried to a perfect crisp +/- Fries were ok + House BBQ sauce that came with the Chicken and chips was great - smoky taste + Burger was good - great in portion size + Dessert is made in house and REALLY good! - save room for some :) Noteworthy: + tons of free street parking + Kid friendly + Clean + Nice Staff

We have been to Oak twice and really like it. The first time we went was for a drink. We started and ended our evening there. They have a good selection of beer (not overwhelmingly big) and mixed drinks. The second time was for a quick dinner. I had the fried chicken sandwich. This is actually a large sandwich. It was two big chicken thighs between the buns. I ate one piece and used the other for the sandwich which was perfect. It came with a very large plate of tasty fries. It would be a great split if you shared a salad. My wife got the chicken pot pie. If was alright. She loved her cocktail, she described it as a spicy-sweet margarita. I like Oak because it feels like a dive bar, but still maintains a bit of a family and neighborhood feel.

If I ever go to death row and get to chose my last meal, I would choose my mum's mashed potatoes and The Oak's minimum wage burger. Add peanut butter and goat cheese (and bacon) for the most addicting burger I've ever had. The drinks are also great (try the booch smooch and smooth criminal) and we love the beers they have available. Staff is friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is great. Favorite restaurant.

Charging for sauces is pretty petty. I don't like seeing surprise $.50 charges on my bill, but I also didn't need as much sauce as I was given. How about give me a ramekin half that size and call it good? And don't come back at me and say that complaining about it is what's petty. I called you it first! We can't both be Petty. But if I'm Petty, then you're the Heartbreakers. Either way it means you're a little overrated. The atmosphere of the place is alright, pretty cozy. The beer choices are great. I would come for drinks anytime. Food was a mediocre experience. They have excellent fries, but their burger was dry (both bun and meat). And the prices are a teensy bit steep. Slightly above fair market price, I would say. Food service is a little slow too. I also don't get why their happy hour food is basically just pot pies. Who wants that? I get that you want to have your own thing, and I get that some people like pot pies, but maybe some regular pub snacks would be well received too.
