Worst service by a bartender I've ever had. When my glass is empty for 20 minutes and I'm sitting at the bar, that is unacceptable. Especially when I'm in a group of four and only one of us is offered a second drink. And we are ALL sitting at the bar, which was not busy at all. We took our business elsewhere.

Walked in, waited to get a drink, bartender on shift ignored us not, once, twice but three times! No acknowledgment!!!! The owner is wonderful but if you are going to call it the neighbor lady, be neighborly!!!!

Popped in for a drink (no food reviewed) on Saturday night. It's a little off the beaten path but a great addition to the area. The staff was friendly, the drinks strong and the crowd mellow but fun. Its wide open space allows for people watching while chatting the night away. I liked it!

Happy to see a new bar in the neighborhood. Reasonably priced, good food, nice beer selection. We'll be back!

Nice ambience, pleasant wait staff. Good beer selection. Wish the food was less expensive. That said, the criss-cross fries are affordable and great. Very good addition to the neighborhood -- no, fantastic addition to the neighborhood.

Stopped in for happy hour on the second night of the soft opening. The tap list is great; I had a nice Silver City IPA. My friend and I split the vegetarian poutine-- it's a mushroom gravy-- and it was super tasty. Someone had put some old big band on the jukebox which seemed completely appropriate. The space is really cute and seems like the perfect place to bring a handful of friends for happy hour and gossip.

Responding to Jacyln's review below: (she said the staff are rude at the Twilight, but nice at the Neighbor Lady) - it's the same staff! And to all the people complaining that the place is "too white" - I've been there quite a bit and always see people of different races there. Not that the owners have any control of who walks in the door anyway! The staff is nice, the drinks are good, and the sliders are GREAT, give it a shot.

So I rolled over to the Neighbor Lady yesterday to grab a bite to eat. Fantastic early dinner. Three words: Bacon braised kale. Looking forward to checking out the dessert as well. Shira was awesome and helpful as always. I love living in the CD and I am happy to have another rad place in stumbling distance from my bachelorette pad.

Some friends and i tried the Neighbor Lady for the first time last night. We only ordered drinks and dessert. Definitely happy to have a nice bar in the area! Thoughts: The male bartender could have been a little friendlier....like when he looked right at my husband and asked what he wanted to order then proceeded to tell him he thought the lady behind him was first. Confusing?? Beer selection was good. I would suggest having table service instead of having to line up at the bar to order. Bread pudding was meh. Kind of dry but had a nice flavor. We'll definitely go back...maybe it was just an off night?

Went by on Friday night for a nightcap. Have lived just down the road for 5 years and welcome the Neighbor Lady with open arms. I thought the food and drink were very good. The sliders were tasty, and the beer selection was strong. Liked seeing HUB, Hilliards, and other NW beers on tap (and going beyond Mac and Jacks and Mannys). I didn't think $9 for the sliders was outrageous. Not sure what price point other folks see at comparable establishments, but this was pretty much what I see elsewhere. One question--what happened to this being a veg only establishment. I'm not a veg, but was kind of interested in the option. I loved the inside. The wallpaper is really cool, the booths are awesome, and the windows look great...can see out, but you cannot see in. Very nice. Lastly, I think the gentrification conversation is just silly. It's a bloody bar, people. It's not a high priced condo that supplanted affordable housing. We should be welcoming investment in our community; instead, we use a place to get a beer and a burger as a way to make a political statement. Kind of silly, esp since all races were in there enjoying themselves.

This is a great little place in a great spot! They pour the drinks heavy (and the bartender said it's a policy) so you are getting what you pay for on that one...and the food was great! (I'm vegetarian). I think it's a perfect balance of meat eaters delight and vegetarians! I absolutely LOVE that they do not have tv's in this place, it seems like every bar nowadays have tv's and/or the music is so loud you can't carry a conversation with the person next to you, this was not the case. I hope that this atmosphere does not change! I hope they do well and stay open!

We didn't stay long, but it was nice and the service was friendly. I've read some of the comments left and black or white IT'S A BAR!!!! the owners can hire whom ever they want. Maybe they hired friends or family. The neighborhood need something new and it got it, so quit the complaining!

Good food. A bit pricey, but the sliders and sweet potato fries were worth it.

If you like The Twilight Exit, you'll like The Neighbor Lady. With a fun Boudoir decor, it is a spacious place with booths by the windows if you want light or tables in the back if want more subtle lighting. The food is great, just like at the Twilight Exit: We've tried the Spaghetti and Meatballs, The Madam (apricot preserves and salami -- YUMMY), The Rocket Salad, and the Real Deal Reuben. All were high quality and fresh! Great local beers and liquors, too. The service was quick and friendly, although it was not too busy when we were there.

I read about this paper in the Friday entertainment section of the paper. The remove mentioned gluten free. We went on Saturday night excited to find a new restaurant that had gluten free options. Those options were limited to only a very few choices. When we entered the "pub" we were told to come to the bar to order. Upon looking at the disappointing menu we decided on the Potini (sp?) and stuffed mushrooms. I proceeded to the bar to place the order for that and a Coke and a martini. The restaurant was busy but not full. The bar tender took the order and my money (was paying cash and didn't want to start a tab) More patrons came into the restaurant and as i watched from my table they were getting their drinks at the time that they ordered. After about 20 mins our food came out still no drinks and the food was cold. I mentioned to the bartender (he was also the waiter) that we had not received our drinks and to please bring the Coke and cancel the martini and a glass of water. I was told "we have a water station at the bar" so i followed him to the bar, got my water and waited as he took more orders and gave out more drinks. I requested the Coke again and that i wanted my money back on the martini. He asked me my name (for the tab i had not started) I told him i had paid cash. He said he would bring me my money back shortly. I returned to the table to eat the now extremely cold stuffed mushrooms that had no flavor other than the very tiny piece of pancheta that was over cooked on top of each of the 4 mushrooms. When we had eaten what we could of the Potini and mushrooms i still did not have my money back. I returned to the bar for the 3rd time and requested my money back. He came back with $4.00 and said this is the difference in the price of the martini and the Coke, i then stated when i originally order i had paid for both a martini and a coke so he gave me another 2 dollars.

I stopped in to The Neighbor Lady with a couple of friends on what I believe was their first night open to the public. On second thought, it might not actually have been open to the public, as I later noticed a small handwritten sign taped to a wall that said "private party" but in any case, we were kindly welcomed. I've lived a few blocks from this location for many years. Thompson's Point Of View, while host to some good misadventures, did not feature noteworthy food, and in later years became a magnet for vagrants, shysters, pushers, and other ne'er-do-wells. Certainly, a nice, warm, neighbor lady will fix those problems. The entry to the building has been moved, removing the prison-like bars which secured the former entrance. The walls feature darkly-stained wainscoting and retro fleur-de-lis wallpaper. Comfortable wood booths surround a nice pool table and a wraparound bar. The bar, and in general the entire layout of the building, follows the pattern of the original (and now the current) Twilight Exit, which is owned by the same people. The booze is stored above the bar in a metal structure which provides visibility into what's available. There are two cocktail-style arcade games, including Qbert, a couple of pinball machines, and a couple of standup arcade games, including Mortal Kombat II and Ms Pac Man. There's a jukebox, and a stately ladies' leg lamp in the corner. The same style lamp you'll remember from A Christmas Carol. We weren't drinking this night, so we stuck to food and soft drinks. I had the muffaletta sandwich which came on tasty foccacia and had a good olive tapenade. I had the crosscut fries, which score points for being fresh-cut. The fries initially arrived underdone, and after returning them, they came back still a bit underdone. I'll chalk that up to first night kinks. The meats were A+ however there was so much of one of the salamis that it was a little too dense. In any case, tasty plate for about $10. My friends ordered a rocket salad, a chicken breast entree, and some ravioli. I never asked how it was, but it disappeared quickly, so must have been good enough. The clientele was exactly what you'd expect if you've been to any of the previous incarnations of the Twilight Exit: a Puch moped parked out front, lots of beards, tattoos, and jovial and friendly folks. With a warm, inviting atmosphere and lots of fun things to do inside, I'm so glad The Neighbor Lady has moved to our neighborhood. I kinda want to come over with a plate of cookies for her, to welcome her to the hood.

I really wish I had it in me to write a review lampooning the gentrification of this venerable Seattle neighborhood, but as this isn't my Sophomore year in college, and I am writing a review of a bar, you won't hear the words "White Privilege" or "Displacement" or "Socioeconomic shifts." I can tell you that they have clean taps, fresh kegs, a good selection of ale, fast, friendly service and lots of places to sit for groups both large and small. I hear that the food is pretty tasty, but I have not tried it yet. It truly is the bar closest to my home, and for that reason alone, I'm sure I'll be back many times.

I really want to like the Neighbor Lady. It's near my house, and a seemingly great alternative to Twilight (which I love). It's got a laid-back atmosphere, cool decor, and a well-rounded menu. Which is why my boyfriend and I chose it for dinner last night, planning to be in and out in 45 minutes or so. Instead, our food took over an hour to get to our table (a kale salad and pulled pork sandwich should NOT take this long, and the place wasn't slammed either). Once it was ready, we saw it sitting on the counter outside the kitchen for upwards of 15 minutes before it was brought to our table. Lukewarm fries anyone? Bottom line: go here for drinks and pool, skip the food.

Showed up here on a Thursday and just caught Happy Hour. This place was like a better dressed cousin of Twilight Exit. The wallpaper was fancier, but really all the things that this place offered were the same. Wait, I take that back. There were more vegetarian food options for the appetizers. The beer list was essentially the same as Twilight exit. I liked the leg shaped lamp near the restrooms.

I love living so close to this place. I can go here for a relaxing and affordable glass of wine and hearty salad, or a microbrew and delicious sandwich. The sweet potato fries are to die for, and their daily soups are always delicious. I'm such a lucky girl!

We had found out about this place via a listing of places showing the first presidential debate and thought it'd be cool to check out. This place was definitely meant to be a neighborhood pub, lots of wood in the decor. Seating in booths, tables and long bars to suit any kind of seating preference you have. Probably no high chairs though. And! My new thing, I love that this place has coat hooks under the bar to hang up my coat and purse. As for the food, I got the Madam which was a hot salami and brie sandwich with house salad, my boyfriend got some kind of hot pastrami sandwich with sweet potato fries. Fabulous sandwiches, substantial house salad with beet greens and kale mixed in with fresh baby lettuce. Sweet potato fries were the best we've had, they tasted to be made fresh from whole sweet potatoes, and fried in such a way that the inside was hot and steamy and the outside was crunchy and salty. This place was super busy and we sat at the bar, watched the elections and also watched how the staff handled the crowd. You have to order your drinks and food at the bar, and there was often a line. But the staff was very efficient and the line moved fast. There were lots of really nice little touches that makes me think that the owner really put a lot of effort into making this place welcoming. Plus any pub that shows the presidential debate is awesome in my book. I'm a little in love with the Neighbor Lady.

Came here for election night and was not blown away. I'm a huge Twilight Exit fan and I know the vibe of this place is intended to be different, but I guess it's just not my style. It's a little more open feeling than the Twi, which has a cave-like, dimly lit atmosphere that is relaxing for yours truly. I do like the NL's decor - sort of saloon style although it needs a little more breaking in to feel homey, which I'm sure will come with time. Of course I like the bartenders who overlap with the Twi - you guys rock! I'd give it another chance but for now my heart's at Twi.

Fuck yeah! Veg friendly food! Life on 23rd and Union! Booze! Awkwardly short pool table, not a good Fri/Sat night joint, but again, Fuck yeah! Someplace other than the Twilight Exit! AND the bartenders are NICE!? wtf, awesome.

Gentrify, gentrify, gentrify. That's the motto of the honky that owns this & the Twighlight. Beer is overpriced. $5/pint in the CD? Come on. All white folk in there. Long way from Thompsons integrated crowd. Sadly this place will likely survive and thrive as there is nothing else for folks to go to in this neigborhood (besides the Twighlight and the equally overpriced Bottleneck). I'll hold out hoping someone can do a TRUE neighborhood bar, a working class black/white partnership, instead of some greedy capitalist bullshit inspired by a bar in Holland.

Glad to see that the Union / 23rd corner is getting some life again. I wish I could give a higher rating, but the three times I've come, I've had pretty unacceptable food. They've got a nice menu which makes a lot of exciting promises, but the fact is the food I've ordered (and between my wife and I over three visits, we've tried about 80% of the food) is largely bland and under-flavored. Also, with each visit, none of the food has actually gotten to my table hot (or even warm). If they can get the kitchen humming (which seems realistic: these are the same people who run the Twilight Exit and that place has dependably good food) I'll go to four stars.

Been back a few times, and have been enjoying the environment and food. Recently sampled the Kale salad and the veg chili, both were pretty tasty. I have my eye on the veg rueben for next time which does look delicious as well. I love how they label the vegan options on the menu. Fries are pretty tasty as well. However I want to write an update about an incident that happened where my boyfriend dumped mustard all over himself and his plate due to squeezing the mustard too hard when it was clogged and the lid falling off. While this was mostly his fault, they were nice enough to remake his food and gave him some drink chips for the inconvenience. I think this was a super cool move and just wanted to acknowledge and appreciate it.

Great ambience. They're definitely going for an old saloon style bar, and I felt like they pulled it off well. I liked that it was quiet even though it was pretty full, and the beer and food selection looked really good. This place is everything you could ask for in a neighborhood bar.

One billiards table for the 75cent taking. Great for cliques to meet at, average prices, low key like the Greenwood area.

Here's the deal - if you're looking for a Twilight v.2 - this isn't going to tickle your fancy... if you're open to a new experience of a local pub with vegetarian fare, then you'll most likely enjoy the Neighbor Lady. I like the concept, but here are a few notes: Pros: A selection of interesting blended flavors - (we had the madam with apricot and salami deeelish and the field roast Reuben), quiet enough we could have a conversation but still had music in the background, simple and clean layout, free street parking area, ample seating, liquor store across the street. Cons: Parking could be a problem on a busy night, no PBR on tap (again, this relates to my being used to the Twilight), staff seems like they're still wet behind the ears. I'm hoping to change my review in the future, as I am a fan of the Twilight and love having another neighborhood bar to go to. I will definitely be back to see them in the future.

My partner and I went in for dinner about 7pm on a Friday. The atmosphere in general, reminds me of a British or Scottish pub. It's pretty dark, but there are windows. The tables are spaced well (farther apart than the Twilight), which made it a nice place to spend some time. The decor specifically felt a little self-conscious, which may be off-putting to people who don't want to pay for, or enjoy a well thought-out environment. The food was very good. We shared the beef sliders and poutine. The sauce on the sliders was the high point of my meal. I liked the poutine, but I'd prefer to get straight fries as an option. The poutine could use a little more gravy, and a little better mixing up, but was very tasty nonetheless. The poutine came out late, and our server comped the dish, without us asking. That was a classy move! I heard a report that they made a friend of mine a manhattan with a lemon wedge (instead of a cherry), which is just wrong. I'm happy to have this business in the neighborhood and I wish them great success! I hope that once places like the Neighbor Lady and Med Mix get established they will prove a market for other ranges of eating on this corner, such as food trucks, dive bars, and maybe some nicer places -perhaps even some affordable housing across the street...

It my neighborhood watering hole, not special just good clean fun and strong drinks. The crowd is super friendly and welcoming. The biggest knock against the place is the food. At best its pub grub but at times its can be pretty lame. As long as they continue to make strong vodka/crans I'll keep coming back

I live a block away, and I'm thrilled to have The Neighbor Lady in the neighborhood. I'm happy about the wifi, and the beer selection is decent. I'd like to see a more diverse variety of microbrews and Belgians. I also wish for more affordable snack or light meal options. In the past few days I've found myself not wanting to go because of the cost of the food. The price point on the vegetarian dishes should be lower; let's see some reasonable $5-$7 dollar options! As for the gentrification review: I agree with some of what's being expressed, but Yelp isn't the place to share that. I'm reminded of those people who give a product on Amazon a single star because shipping was slow.

This is preliminary review that I'm going to have to revise once I've been to this place a few more times. I went to the previous restaurant once, which was called Thompson's Point of View, and I gotta say the change in ownership has resulted in a huge facelift as well. I'm pretty sure they gutted the whole place and started over from scratch! I understand that they're still working out the kinks of being a brand new bar/restaurant, so I want to show them a little respect and patience in the process of perfecting the place. Pros: * The food options offer an extensive variety of all types of food, and almost each item can be ordered vegetarian, which is a plus for many people. * They have good beers on tap, and they're different from the ones at Twilight Exit * So far, the food highlights are the mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, the BLT with arugula and tomato jam (the jam makes the sandwich!), beef sliders, and waffle fries * The decor is very neighbor lady like, especially if you've ever had that old lady neighbor who had a lot of cats and keeps to herself Cons: * They don't open til 4 pm every day, which is a bummer on the weekends * Not much of a happy hour. I've been told it's $1 off all wells and drafts til 7 pm, but since they don't open til 4:00, it's not much of an offering yet. * Mediterranean platter is good, but they only give you like 1 little tiny piece of bread to eat the entire dish, which is pretty big. Then, if you ask for more bread, they charge you $1. * It's kind of small inside (and I wish it had a patio, though these things can't always be helped) I'm excited to keep going back again and again to this place. I really like the staff(mostly same people from Twilight but some new faces, too), and I've been fairly satisfied with the food up to this point. I'm sure they will evolve and become even better as they establish themselves in the community. I think I'm guilty of expecting it to be as awesome as Twilight right off the bat, and these things take time. So, if you've been once and weren't that impressed, I understand because I sort of felt the same. But I think it deserves to be tried at least a few more times before any of us rule it out completely.

Everything about my experience dining here was perfectly adequate, but nothing to rave about. The decor is more polished than that at the Twilight, but kind of dull somehow. I do like the booths though. Booths are good. The menu seems a little overpriced, and it isn't super extensive. I like that they have vegetarian offerings but it annoys me when establishments offer primarily fake meat-oriented options and pat themselves on the back for it. I sampled the vegetarian poutine and the muffaletta sandwich, with meat. Both were pretty greasy. The fries are tasty though, but could have used more toppings. I like my poutine drowned in goodness, or at least liberally covered. I'll probably come back, but mostly because I live close by. The deep fried asparagus is also intriguing.

My wife and I are here a lot. The bartenders get to know you very quickly, they are very friendly and fun to talk to, and the crowd is half regulars half randos so it's never boring nor unfamiliar feeling. The pool table is acceptable, the drink and food prices are cheap, and the food menu is pretty creative for a semi-dive bar while the food itself is very well-made. The interior is very nice and very cozy without feeling crowded or losing the overall dive feel. Pinball, Mortal Kombat, Ms Pacman, good playlists, and good bartenders.

    (5)
  • Zoe Y.

I love the atmosphere here. Even on a weekend, you don't need to scream to be heard. Low key, nice wooden booths and the music is usually decent. They have both vegan and vegetarian options listed on the menu. A great bar for the CD.

  • Ian B.

This place is a great addition to the neighborhood. My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here with a small group of friends. There's a great menu if you're a vegetarian who still has some longing for the taste of flavor of meat...with some yummy dishes like the ruben sandwich made with sun-dried tomato loaf (instead of meat). Yum. If you add that to other dishes for the carnivores who inhabit the free world, the eccentric leg lamps, and some good microbrews like Leavenworth hefeweizen and Mack and Jacks, and this place is a definite favorite...and bound to be reviewed many many more times...

    (4)
  • Bruyere C.

Okay. I've only been a few times. Service is good. Selection decent. Busy often. I guess this means positive things. Suffers from the typical Seattle afflictions: too well lit, Seattle "freeze" and a lack of investment... If you want a cool place to hang with your mates this place works. Doesn't have the neighborhood feel you might expect to beguile its name... But definitely worth a check out. Oh and the Ms. Pacman is a plus.

Favorite neighborhood bar. Warm cozy vibes. Never too packed. Pool table! This & the Twilight Exit (same owners) are so damn great. Go here for your birthday for giant free drinks & mug you can keep! Also, great food. Get The Hoagie or the Green Goddess salad!

The Neighbor Lady has everything you ever wanted in your local watering hole--good food, affordable drinks, and a chill, unpretentious atmosphere. Heck, my friends and I who live on Capitol Hill actually drive here for food and drinks every few weeks because we enjoy this place so much. The food is way above average for bar food. Miso-glazed salmon? Chicken in a cumin-heavy lentil curry? Sandwiches whose fillings always breach the perimeters of the bread? Count me in, especially since you'll probably never drop more than $12 on your meal. Their tap selection rotates every now and then, and features some of the usual PNW culprits (think Black Raven, Double Mountain, Anthem, etc.). There's also usually a drink special every night that's a fairly good deal. This is a great bar for hanging out and catching up with friends over a meal and a couple of drinks. The price is right, and the convivial atmosphere is conducive to conversation and having a great time.

Having moved from Capitol Hill to the Central District, we're still adjusting to having fewer walkable options. One of the closest bars is now the Neighbor Lady, which we'd heard good things about and decided to audition for the role of "neighborhood bar." We stopped in earlyish on a weeknight (they do have happy hour specials, but we missed them). Lots of booth seating was available and there were just a handful of small groups chatting and drinking, not too rowdy. Sure, it's kind of divey inside, but in a cozy, friendly way -- wood floors, vintagey wallpaper, and art in fancy frames on the walls. We tried a couple of their draft ciders (Ace and Anthem, I think). Prices were reasonable and service was quick. In addition to beer and cider, they have a full bar and usually feature a rotating special cocktail on the board. They have trivia nights, $5 mimosas and Bloody Marys on Sundays, a vegetarian-friendly menu (but they do serve meat), and they have pinball machines in the back, so I can see a lot of reasons for making this our regular bar! (Bonus: the CD's only pot shop is right next door.) I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying their dinner menu.

  • Natalie G.

This place is fun, with two pinball machines and pacman to play, along with cool decorations including the lamp from a Christmas story! If you want food while sitting at a table you have to order from the bar then they bring it out to you. For drinks you order them at the bar then wait until they are made. I had the gluten free crepe which was yummy. It's nice they mark the gluten free options on the menu. My husband had a sandwich with sweet potato fires. He liked his sandwich just not the fries. (Although I loved the fries they were nice and crispy!) This is a fun place to grab some drinks I just wish their menu had a few more options that I would've wanted.

Been resisting the temptation to review for a while, but finally giving in. This place is PERFECT. If you want to actually enjoy a conversation with friends, possibly meet a nice person at the bar, and not have to fight for a drink, Neighbor Lady is the best. It's one of the few spots in the CD/Capitol Hill corridor where you can get a beer for under $5 and specialty cocktails for $5. Seriously. I got a pint glass full of tequila and grapefruit juice the other weekend for a mere $5. Added bonus: The sweet potato fries are delicious. This neighborhood is about to become very popular with lots of new apartments going up - be sure to enjoy this gem before it gets too busy!

If "nice dive bar" existed, this would be the place. It's a place I wish I had around when i was in my early 20s to hang out with friends, be boisterous and still think I'd be safe a few drinks down the road. I had my go-to moscow mule and I just wish it hadn't been their well-vodka. My fault I guess but it was almost undrinkable. Otherwise, the atmosphere was great and there was a jukebox in the corner so +1 for that!

Favorite bar...ever? Maybe too early to tell but I do know that I have fallen in love with the Neighbor Lady. The charm of a great bar is hard to do. It's divey but yet somehow well put together and almost sophisticated. They have some good beers on tap and offer a slew of other drinks. They have a pool table, a leg lamp, vintage wall paper, awesome decor, and a Ms. Pac Man machine! The food though is what has really won me over. Great specials for amazing prices. My first visit I tried the special Maple Whiskey Steak over mustard greens and parsnip purree. Amazing. Perfectly cooked steak, great savory sauce, paired well with the sweetness of the puree, and greens to complete the dish. The next time I had to try their sweet potato fries. These are some of the best I have ever had, if not the best. They have the perfect crispy exterior and have the perfect salt to them. Every fry was perfectly cooked and not too greasy. To supplement the fries I ordered the Green Goddess salad with chicken added. This was a heft salad and I loved it. The tahini dressing, almonds, green apple and raisins were all so tasty with the hearty kale bedding. The clientele and the atmosphere is what I love best here but I think the Neighbor Lady has it all going on.

Great beer, nice people. Chili wasn't good though, too much Sweet not enough savory. Cool lil bar n grill though. Maybe pass on the chili. Cool eclectic menu for a bar. And there's a dispensary right around the corner..

This is my spot. And if you have the honor of having tom as your bartender you've lucked out. He is the most amazing person and bartender I've ever encountered. He makes you feel so comfortable and like an old friend. From The jazz/blues music he plays to his warm energy will make you never want to leave. You never want to call a bar your second home but it feels like a safe comfortable place to wind down after a stressful day. Come on a weekday night if you can ;)

Interesting place. Decoration very fun. Food average. you have to order at the bar, they give you a small flag to put on your table to identify you and they bring you the order to the table. Nice neighborhood bar to go.

Loved this little spot. All day happy hour on Sunday, little tv where you can catch the game, pool table. Friendly, quick staff. The Hoagie sandwich was delicious! Great day drinking spot.

This is the most magical bar. The bartenders are AMAZING, the people who go there are amazing, and the food is super tasty. Really great Happy Hour (all day on Sundays), really really great vegetarian food options and sandwiches, Pool, Pinball, and board games. I love the people who go here, it's got a great vibe and atmosphere, and has a really cozy interior design. Also- WAFFLE FRIES!!!!

Loved their Rum Horchata special. So glad it's only a few blocks from my house! They also have delicious sweet potato fries, hooray!

Awesome bar! Laid back atmosphere and a great staff. Good food, fair prices and they don't skimp on the booze.

Awesome little spot. We went stopped in for their brunch on a Tuesday. It was delicious and cheap. During the week they can get pretty crowded, but nowhere close to as busy as bars in cap hill.

Aside from the fact that sometimes it smells a little funky fresh in this place, it's really an awesome neighborhood bar. Love this place, funky fresh or otherwise.

I had NO idea this place existed until a few weeks ago even though I live very nearby. I love the Christmas Story leg lamp in the back, and I love that you get a free (leg lamp printed) mug & drink on your birthday. The waffle fries are to die for (or maybe I'm just obsessed with French fries - either way). I was here on a Wednesday night & it was packed, which I wouldn't really expect for a random Wednesday. Will definitely come back!

We wandered in here for lunch one day after failing to find a food truck we were interested in and I'm glad we did. The place has a great divey atmosphere and the bartender was really friendly. While reading through the menu I remarked at how many vegetarian options there were. The bartender told me that they can even make most of the sandwiches vegetarian with a soy substitute. He added that he even likes the vegetarian ruben more than the real ruben. So that's what I got. With a side of sweet potato fries. Yum. Honestly, I don't think I've had a vegetarian or non-vegetarian ruben before, so I can't attest to the authenticity. But it certainly hit the spot. I'd definitely come here again and recommend.

They have a pool table, and although it doesn't make up for the pool table at the old Twilight Exit no longer existing, it's the closest pool table that I know of in relationship to where I live. I really appreciate the pool table.

Love this place! Yummy hummus plate & good strong drinks. I like how you order your drinks at the bar. The staff is friendly and there is a great music selection piping through the speakers.

Great place to meet friends for a quick bite and drinks after work. Love Shera, the food, the atmosphere and they make a good Margarita. It's closer to me than Twilight so I'll likely hang here more. Be sure to ask for any off menu specials.

Weezer coming out of the speakers, super friendly staff, a happy hour that lasts until 7, a diverse clientele, what's not to love? And half a block from the #48 bus so you can get home.

After talking about Neighbor Lady over 2 years ago, our latest visit over the weekend warrants an update. Consider this really 4.5 stars. Neighbor Lady is great. We love it. The Prompt for this is FOOD. Please, if you have not yet had a meal at Neighbor Lady, and especially if you are anywhere near or in our CD neighborhood, wait no longer! Go! Go! Most times my wife and I get the Special, whatever that is. Most times it is very special, unique, and delicious. Like trying something you really haven't had before. The kitchen at NL comes up with amazing specials. This is for the Salmon last Saturday. Served on a Wood Plank over a bed of "stuff". (like greens and an onion puree and other stuff, I ain't no foodie) But 5 star delicious. Yeah. Its a Pub. There is a DIN of the crowd conversing. You have to order at the Bar. (They DO give you a nice flag and bring the food to you). We feel welcome.

Great place to have a drink and chat with friends. Low-key and relaxed. We shared a reuben and curly fries, both of which were fine. But we spent two hours there with friends without ever feeling the need to leave the table or spend oodles of money. Glad to have this place in the neighborhood, and we'll be back!

Cute little pub!!!! Great atmosphere! Good service! And the regulars are just as helpful as the staff! Has a pool table and one tv so don't come here if you want to watch a football game but it's great to sit, relax and make new friends!

We just stopped in for a quick lunch. We ordered the club sandwich and a beer. Great sandwich, cold draft beer and fast food. It is the best.

I love the fact that they have a selection of bottled and on-tap ciders. It was fun to try the Ace (bottled, sweet, good strong apple flavor) and Anthem (on tap, very light and dry, light apple/floral taste). The arugula salad is huge! The creamy dressing and fresh cheese cut the bitterness of arugula, and the pine nuts sprinkled on it add a new dimension of flavor that I hadn't experienced before. And the jalapeno poppers are made right - crisp with some breadcrumbs in the batter, and cream cheese inside, without any unfortunate pickled flavor that some of the previously frozen ones have...not that I know if the Neighbor Lady makes theirs fresh or busy them frozen, honestly. Atmosphere is very self-referential and hip, with the crowd being about right - I saw dudes in giant scarves, flannel button downs, and saggy tight pants everywhere. Not the type I would try to pick up, but I was already there with a male friend. It's dark but in a flattering way, and the tables are well-spaced so you don't feel like you're up in your neighbor's business. I also love that the bartender had a great Irish accent and they serve Tullamore Dew...I will be back :)

Decent food, friendly staff, plenty of regulars, and pool/arcades and pinball to keep you entertained. Also a few board games & books lying around somewhere. I personally could easily do without the flat screen on the wall, but that's just another feat which adds to the neighbor lady's overall atmosphere as an extended living room and neighborhood gathering place. Oh right, they also serve drinks'n'stuff - fairly priced and competently made. So even if it's not your own neighborhood's living room, it's still worth stepping into once in a while.

In the early evening I felt like I was bothering the bartender by ordering food. To the point where I asked her if I'd done something to offend. No.... she was just having a bad day. She just wanted to chit chat with her friends, and we were peripheral.

Neighbor Lady in the Central Dist may pour strong and play hard pool-side, but she also has a softer, feminine side with Parisian-style wall paper and cozy booths. This is the place for deep fried and greasy to chat up fresh rocket greens and vegetarian blt's. You might have to get friendly with the bartender to get any service, but over all she's about bringing people together. Just what you'd expect from a good neighbor.

Great place for a neighborhood drink! This place is right up the street from us. They have bar food but there food is surprisingly good. They have a good selection of beers and bartenders are always friendly.

I swung by The Neighbor Lady at the tail end of a busy week and gluttonous weekend visiting Seattle. It was a nice place to unwind and hang out with my friends in town. We got a quiet booth, and at one point, we were able to fit seven of us without getting too cramped. The bar was comfortable, with a casual boudoir aesthetic. We managed to have a pretty long conversation about old school whorehouses, and I can't imagine we weren't influenced by the charms of The Neighbor Lady. I didn't get a drink this time around, a brief reprieve in a week of overindulgence and overspending. The whiskey selection was decent, though, and I would have been tempted if I couldn't get the same drinks back home. We stayed and chatted for a while, and it was all very pleasant. I liked this place. The atmosphere was calm but not boring, and it was easy to hang out. I get why it's called The Neighbor Lady - it's the kind of bar where you can drop in for a drink and a little fun any time you like.

What a waste of money! Staff was not in control of the bar. It's no wonder it was empty. The bartender's friend was loudly talking shit about my friends musical selection. He then proceeded to unplug the juke box and when questioned became verbally abusive. The bartender watched while the situation went from bad to worse. Her friend was calling a woman in our party a "Cunt", causing a fight to break out. This whole situation could have been avoided if the bartender could control her obviously wasted friend. Real bummer night.

I think this is a fantastic neighborhood bar. However, I have realized it is the kind of bar you can only order beer at. My boyfriend and I went it tonight for drinks, and ordered two whiskey ginger cocktails. I watched the female bartender pour only a non alcoholic ginger-beer into glasses. I asked her if there was whiskey in the drinks and she assured me there was. However, after tasting, there was clearly no alcohol in our drinks. We sent them back and she told us they were fine. I would love to give this bar a four star based on the ambiance, but the bartender's attitude and the subpar service was off-putting.

I was attracted to this space for restroom relief and although the entrance felt like a doorway that was about to go into a speakeasy, I was greeted by warm colors, decor, liquor bottles;), and staff. It felt like I had just stepped into a shire where the unique patrons gather. What a surprising find! And I had a hot toddy:)

I really like this bar. It feels like the neighborhood; central district and the bottom of the hill. Most people are interested in having a chill night, talking to some old and new friends, and no one is overdressed or going to vom on their sequined heels later in the evening. The decor matches the clientele, fun, bit not overly trendy or pretentious. They have a decent beer list and the food (although I haven't tried any!) looks delicious. I hope this lady is here to stay!

When my cousin and I walked in, we were a bit apprehensive since my cousin had always felt uncomfortable when walking by this place. However, her partner was super enthusiastic and really wanted to try this place. We were all glad we did! First of all, do you know how hard it is to find Rainer Beer on tap? ? ? Pretty hard because my boyfriend ( a GIANT Rainer Beer fan) has never found it on tap. Well low and behold, it was here, at this bar, in the middle of the Central District. That was a pretty awesome find considering no bar in Ballard, Fremont, and all those hipster towns that i have been to has it. Anywhoo, the bartenders were pretty friendly, especially the gal that took over for the bartender that was there when we walked in. She was super sweet and very helpful, especially when she brought out a small dish of honey for my cousin's delicious sweet potato fries... she was right when she said it was like a nice hot desert! I had ordered the special which was a green chili tuna melt! I practically melted off my barstool as I ate this thing. The bread was perfectly toasted, the green chilis were prominent but not over powering the tuna. I even licked my fingers and practically my plate after I finished my sandwich... it was that good. I would like to come back and try the other delicious items on their menu and try the other beers they have on tap. The time I visited I had a bottle of ACE hard cider, it was the first time I had it and it was nice and refreshing. They also have a small arcade with some arcade cabinets in a small corner near the entrance! Many bars dont have arcade games now a days... so it was nice to see some old school gaming still rockin! I am already looking forward to coming back and I will have my boyfriend in tow!

My new fave! Great place, good food - lots of veggie options, and most of the bartenders are awesome. Not a huge fan of Natalie, she's not warm and doesn't make a very good drink. However, Matt and Greg rock it! Love the music and the regulars are fun to bullshit with.

Surprisingly good cuisine! We live in the neighborhood and resolved to visit more often. Quiet (ie no loud music), friendly, great food and drink.

I wish I could give this place 5 stars because I love so many things about it--more on those later--but the bartender Natalie is THE WORST and MEANEST person I have met in recent memory. She was incredibly rude, just blatantly ignored us at an empty bar so she could wash glasses. We tried to order food 3 times and eventually just gave up. But really this place has great drinks and is one of the last legitimate holes in the wall. Great vegan/vegetarian food. Will be back, hope they fire that horrible woman.

Devastating! This used to be my favorite CD bar, but their new menu post-New Year got rid of some of my favorite bar food. They used to have AMAZING grilled cheese and yam fries. But, alas, the "New Year New Menu" has left them in the dust. They used to be a super veggie friendly place. Now it's field roast or the highway. Gross. Change back!

I love the Neighbor Lady! It's walking distance to my house and I am glad it's the local watering hole for my honey and I. Has a nice diverse crowd and the service is friendly. The food is great and offers some things that you won't find on just any bar menu. If only they had a Outdoor seating area... but luckily the Twilight is around the corner when I need a dose of sun.

Went to this bar and there was only one other customer in the whole place. I asked if they served food? The bar tender said yes and handed me a menu. I waited at my table for over 5 minuets and the guy never even brought over a water. Say there with the menu closed waiting for anything. Nothing at all. Got up and left.

I stopped in because I live a few blocks away and read a brief note from The Stranger that this place had sorta maybe just opened. All told, I could see this place becoming a serious hang out for the CD. It has a pool table, an interesting crowd, reasonably priced drinks. The folks behind the bar are the same nice folks that you run into at the Twilight Exit. The food left me a bit unsatisfied. It was a bit spendy for what you got but frankly I don't really see this as the kind of place where food is gonna be a big deal. It's about the feel and about the drinks.

    (3)
  • Jason M.

Run by the same people who do the Twilight Exit, so it's a very similar vibe (sans the wonderful deck that Twilight Exit has). That is to say, homey, dimly light, and good bartender service. One thing that this venue does better than its sister venue is the food - a good selection of Vegetarian and gluten-free options that were tasty (I stole some 'meatloaf' from my vegetarian friend).

people who frequent this bar seem to feel like it is their bar and no one else deserves to be there. all of the staff was super cool and helpful. also we got to play jenga which was nice.
