Maybe it's just me during near-closing or it's part of the experience, IDK, but my salted fish and chicken fried rice wasn't anything worth recollection. The fish looked peculiarly dark towards the skin and tasted off. The rice was part crunchy, chunky and ok - not an ideal combination. The last SF&CFR I've had, I think, was at Tea Garden up north on Rainier Ave - THAT was fulfilling and satisfying, to give an example... I also wanted a Tiger beer to wash anything down but that was apparently out; ok, gimme mah Tsingtao. It was okay... the staff seemed nice enough; a lady came first and then an old man who came by had this odd, subtle scornful looking expression... lady comes back to card me (you can card me until I retire, for all I care, TYVM). Hmph.

I went here with my kids and mom. The waiter gave us our menus. He came back and asked if we were ready, but we told him we needed a few more minutes. He came back a minute later and we were still not ready so he left. He came back a minute later and my mom was still looking through the menu and he just stood there waiting for us to order and clearly we were not ready but my mom felt rushed so she just ordered pho. The food was decent but the service was terrible.

Great local hole-in-the-wall joint. I've been going for over ten years. Everything on their menu is good! Nice staff and you can't beat the prices!

I am BLOWN away at their 30 page menu offering everything under the sun that is true to the Vietnamese tradition. With a multitude of things to try, I opted for hot pot and an appetizer. The soft shell crab fried appetizer pleased and set us up for hot pot. While the hot pot broth and toppings amazed us, the star of the pot, the eel, was not fresh. If I had to do it again, I would do fish, meat or seafood hot pot instead. Thus far, the food appears to be authentic and not "americanized" so that is a plus. In and around this area on MLK, Thanh Thao is the only place that comes to mind for Vietnamese food worth trying out. 3.44 stars.

I love this place! I'm come here at least once a week. Everything on the menu is amazing. I usually get the #35 pho. They have quick service. Most of the time you just sit wherever you want. They have never been rude and i have never had a problem with anything. They always greet me with a smile. I definitely recommend you try this place out, you won't regret it.

I always love going here. The waitress and staff recognize us from when my fiancé and I started dating ten years ago. I have had about everything on the menu since and everything was wonderful and flavorful. I have the Banh xeo and it was crispy with each bite.

I adore this place! Super yummy pho and vermicelli! They're very authentic, the veggies are incredibly fresh. They always give extra thai basil which I use in a cocktail. Great service as well, go there now!

we came here last night for 7 course beef and it was ok if pricey for what they served. why the low score? because service was HORRIBLE. i'm not sure what the deal was but old dude working our table was distracted and inattentive. can't blame language barrier because we had a native viet speaker in our posse with us. whatever dude was thinkin' bout, it wasn't serving tables for sure: forever to flag him down, didn't explain that 4 "courses" of the beef was all on one plate so we was like, are we still missing 2 courses or what? everything tasted ok in my opinion but i've never had this meal before so i wasn't sure what to expect. you only get one chance to make a first impression and with rainier bbq literally a block a way, i have no reason to come back here again. shame because pho supposed to be on point. i guess i'll never know now because of this non-sense. if i'm gonna be payin' $30 per person i expect a little more, is that too much to ask?

Bad service. Unbelievably slow. They forgot my order and I left. Will never come back.

Really good pho place near my house and they have a giant menu I'll have to come back for. On my second visit, I found out that they also do "exotic meats" like rabbit, deer, boar, jellyfish etc.. kinda like Rainier BBQ. And while I enjoy Rainier BBQ, that place just gets way too crowded and there's always a wait. So I think Thanh Thao may be a better bet. We were seated quickly both times we went and service is usually prompt. Not their fault but the second time we were there, a huge family with several kids had taken over one side of the restaurant. We were seated near them and boy, that was annoying and reaffirms my desire to never have kids. Seriously though, Yelpers, if you have kids, discipline them! A restaurant is no place to be running around in, yelling, and just making a general nuisance of themselves. I'm judging your parenting skills if they clearly won't listen to you. My parents may not have been the most amazing or whatever but when they told me to sit down and behave myself, I sure did! Anyway, unruly customers aside, Thanh Thao is definitely worth checking out either for good pho or really whatever Vietnamese food might strike your fancy.

Love this place and come at least once a week get their rice plates, pho, and spring rolls repeatedly, - deeeeelish

A solid go to location for much needed Pho. They don't skimp on flavor or the amount of noodles/meats. I'm pretty sure all the yummy flavor in the broth is partly due to the help of MSG. If you're sensitive, I'd double check or, order one of their many other yummy dishes.

It was pretty packed in here on a Sunday but was able to get seated right away. This is obviously a very popular spot. They have a gigantic menu with pretty much everything Vietnamese under the sun, but I decide to stick with the faithful pho like I do so many weekend mornings to ease away my hangovers. The pho itself was pretty good. The broth had a rich beef flavor and the portions of the meat were generous. Though it's not the greatest pho I've had, it definitely hit the spot and made my Sunday morning more manageable.

I've been here about a dozen times for lunch and tried probably 8 different things. Everything has been great (well, the crispy rice thing was a bit oily for me). I love their clay pot chicken. I can't remember the last time I was so surprised by a dish. From their pho to their basil alligator dish (can't remember the name) to the medley of pork over rice (I am not good with names I tell you.) It's all just so yummy. One thing to be on the lookout for though. This parking lot is a madhouse on the weekends. Imagine a demolition derby style event where the goal is to find a parking spot and just narrowly miss the cars around you that may or may not be following driving convintions you're used to in other parking lots.

Authentic Vietnamese food! This place is a hole in the wall, but it has great food. I would recommend: bun mang viet, bun bo hue, chao. All of which is good and soupy. Rice plates are great too, for a decent price. If you're using debit/credit card, tip is already included...

  • Bolynna K.

This place has the best rice dish! I always get the special number #92 with a side of pho soup. The vermicelli bowl with sugar cane wrapped with shrimp paste is also delicious. Very friendly customer service.

I like Vietnamese food but this restaurant it's a very unique on the food on the quality and prices it's the best nothing fancy but the food was excellent and the customer service I highly commended and I will be back

Good food. Good service. Nice hole in the wall place. Cleanly. Quick. They have a variety for the menu which if you are adventurous, this is the place for you. Not only do they serve great Vietnamese dishes like pho, vermicelli and Viet crepes, but they also have at least two different dishes of crocodile, given the season. One is a spicy crocodilian dish while the other is for the noon spicy person. Both are to die for, but both are pricey, because, well, it's crocodile. Everything I've had hear has tasted authentic Vietnamese. Nice owners who always have a smile on their face. During football season they have most of their tv's turned onto the games. Now that I'm talking about this place I need to go back and yes it'll be worth the distance i have to travel.

Been coming here since 98.' Same old friendly owners till this very day. Plenty of pho places to choose from around this neighborhood but I have to say this place has been the best by far. Rice plates are just as good. The right portions and reasonable prices. If you're not done with your meal by the time they are close, they will stay open until you and your table are ready to leave.

I recently just started going to this restaurant because I was on a hunt to find a delicious and SANITARY PHO restaurant around Seattle. My last favorite place, I found bugs in it and I haven't went back since. In the hopes of finding another pho spot me and my bf decided to eat at Thanh Tao. The first couple of times we went the pho was tasty and the customer service was good.clean. bam. But I recently just went back for another round of PHO and guess what? BUGS!!!! Right as I was finishing up my pho soup there was a bug with wings dead in my soup. My boyfriend ALSO had one in his too! That was my last straw. I got a hold of the lady that works there and I told her that my boyfriend and I have two FREAKING BUGS in our soup! And I hate BUGS! And her excuse was that, that restaurant is FILLED with bugs everywhere and sometimes they crawl here and there.... And sometimes end up in the food and there's nothing that they can do about that. She didn't charge us for our pho and quite frankly I wasn't going to pay for it with what I just discovered. I don't know why she thought THAT would be a great excuse but there's no excuses for an unsanitary restaurant. If you have bugs and pest running around your kitchen where you cook and serve food,DONT!! SIMPLE! Finding hair is one thing, but BUGS?!?! Looks like I won't be coming back here again. And the hunt continues. Very disappointed because I liked the pho and the workers were pleasant. But no bugs for me! Nope.

I got their Pho Dac Biet, and I thought it was good. Their Broth is a little different than usual, but the meat is sooo good. I love how cheap it is! Their food is really cheap & I will definitely come back. I needed a Pho fixin' so I came here to try it once more. Definitely would come back. The service isn't too great, but it's a typical Asian restaurant. Authentic Vietnamese food and I was satisfied.

  • Kelleyann H.

My bestfriend's ex family owns this restaurant, it's awkward going there at times but I don't really mind, their food is amazingly tasty to me. I enjoy their bun rieu(Vietnamese crab noodle soup) bun oc (escargot), and ap chao bo (Vietnamese Pan-Fried Rice Noodles Sauteed with Beef) I love them! Their milk tea is also very tea-y like the tea is really strong and I love it! Their bubble tea is really good too, but I haven't tried any other flavor besides milk tea and durian. Lol. I hope I can come back soon for their milk tea and ap chao bo or bun oc!!

  • Sarah R.

They have a large variety of dishes. I especially love that they have egg noodles with pho! My favorite! Not all Vietnamese restaurants offer egg noodles, so that's a definite plus in my book. I've also tried their Banh Xeo, pork chops, and Vietnamese coffee and all were delicious! Prices are reasonable too!

  • Jasmin G.

I love this place! They pretty much have everything. Even hot pot! This place has the biggest selection of soups and rice dishes and everything I've tried so far has been great. The proportions are big for so cheap so you'll be full without hurting your pockets or anything. They even have bubble tea. To put the cherry on top the service was good.

    (5)
  • Ha T.

Smoothies and bubble tea flavors are a nice treat. Food is just ok. The problem is in their 10-page long menu. They focus too much on quantity instead of quality. I'd still come back for the authentic Vietnamese stuff. This is the stuff not found in most restaurants, the "for native only" dishes like grilled crocodile, fermented anchovy fried rice, and raw blood soup. Beware, it's not for the faint of heart or the weak of stomach.

With no shortage of Vietnamese restaurants all up/down MLK, I don't doubt the possibility of other goods ones in the neighborhood, but this is BY FAR the best pho I've had in awhile! This fact is even more highlighted since I ventured out and tried a couple other new ones recently, and they were both very disappointing. Tried it for the first time recently, and it was incredible, as far as pho goes. Great quality meat (for pho) and clearly homemade and not from some packaged broth. I like that they left a little more of the fat/oil in, so it was extremely flavorful. Just as important, it came scalding hot and actually stayed hot up until the last slurp. Will be back for sure!

Whoo Doggie! Had some really good Bun Bo Hue here! Packed into a grungy strip mall, where all good Vietnamese food is, sits this little gem. The place was pretty full when my friend and I went on a Friday night. We were the only non Asians in the place, always a good sign. Myself and my friend ordered and got the usual funny look of "You sure you want Bun Bo Hue?". It came out all steamy and delicious smelling and I was delighted to see the requisite toppings and blood cubes floating in the soup! I hate it when a place doesn't include blood and I often suspect they leave it out to try and not offend a more Western palette. The soup was ROCK solid, what I would use as an example of what Bun Bo should be like to a person who's never had it. Staff was really nice and kept my water full, no small feat for this human camel! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Seattle!

I actually like this place, not so much the cleanliness. In the past I have been there like 20 times, and every time the tables are sticky and I am afraid to drink out of the cups and use the utensils. Priced fair. Bad service. Delicious dishes. They have yummy food there. Me and my best friend go there on the regular these days. They do need a remodel though, they have random 4x6 photos of plants like one on each wall which drives me nuts because it is so random but they are friendly. Their menus are really sticky and worn out, I wonder why they don't wipe them out. They have pictures in their menu, thats a PLUS. but fading really quickly, I hate Pho, so i will speak in my best friends behalf, the Pho is good. And they have a medium size variety of sauces on the table to serve with the Pho. mmm im hungry now.

My bf and I love this place! This place is pretty authentic and they have tons of choices to choose from. However, my bf says their rice plates have gotten much smaller...maybe he just got bigger haha!

There a lot of places where you can get Pho' along MLK but this this place stands out for me. Their broth suit to my taste better and their menu has a good selection. The price is really good for their servings too.

I said it in my last review here and I will say it again. This is my FAVORITE pho place! Literally grew up eating pho here. Everytime I try pho at other places, its just not the same. I honestly believe that its the broth that makes all the difference cause they have the best broth I've ever tasted and I have friends who will second that opinion! I have a friend who does not enjoy pho. She's had it before but never liked it. Her boyfriend however, loves it. So every time they would go to a pho restaurant, she would just order vermicelli and her boyfriend would always try to get her to try his pho. She would always refuses and say it looks "gross". Crazy right?! Well, guess who finally got her to take a liking to it?? ME!!! :) I was craving pho one day and invited her to have lunch with me. Knowing she wasn't a fan, I assured her there were other foods she could order such as a rice plate, soup, or vermicelli. She actually wasn't planning on ordering and instead was going to watch me eat until I finish. So I ordered my pho and began eating. After about 10 minutes, she ends up ordering and guess what it was? PHO!! I was shocked. When I asked her why the sudden change of heart and she simply said "it smelled good and this pho actually looks good". HAHA! She texts her boyfriend and lets him know what she's eating and he is also shock. The next day he complains about how long he's been trying to get her to change her mind about Pho. It was just hilariously cute! This is the ONLY place she will go to eat pho. :)

They serve Vietnamese and Chinese foods as the sign says. Menu is to complicated to read, even with photos. Very Good Pho noodles with tasty broth, good meats. Fast service. Too bad the wait person damp mopped next to you while dinning there, even if it was absolutely needed if there was a spilt, I did not feel it was right.

So after bowling, the gang decided to i eat here. I usually get the pho (which is decent) but I chose something different. I had bun bo hue which all in all a disappointment. I wasn't satisfied nonetheless. Fiance had their pho which was ok, tod had pho and we ordered the black tea milk tea which I didn't care for. The tapioca want appealing either.. The rest ordered between rice dishes (which looked amazing!) And more pho. Ill have to say they took a while to deliver because one of us decided to go to tonys bakery for a banh mi because he waited too long. Not bad overall I suppose, won't make a regular spot though, thats for sure.

Come here if you want to come for lots of authentic, home-style Vietnamese dishes that are quite delicious. This place is likes home cooking foods. This is family owned and their service is very good. Bun man Vit Com Thanh Thao Pho Ap chao Bot Chien trung Pho Dac Biet Chao Long Lau De Those are my favorite dishes

This is an OK place to eat Vietnamese food, not the greatest like in Chinatown area. I had "bun mam" (anchovy soup) here one night and it was not what I've expected. This restaurant needs to replace everything including table and chairs. The atmosphere is sometime weird when you could hear a group of people cursing in their own language and yes I can understand their language. Anyway, I give up on this place so I am heading to Chinatown next time.....see-ya.....

Don't let the decor deter you from checking this place out. Once you taste their food you could care less about your surroundings. I'm a very picky eater (I think I've mentioned this before in my other reviews. Well, it's true!) and especially more so towards Vietnamese food. It's because I'm extremely blessed by having a mom who is an amazing cook. So I'm somewhat - who am I kidding - VERY spoiled when it comes to good Vietnamese food. Thus I seldom venture to other Vietnamese restaurants because I've been disappointed too often than not. Luckily Thanh Thao offers me a second option away from mama's house. They have the best rice dishes I've ever had! My favorite is the Thanh Thao special rice dish. Yes their menu is extensive but the quality is as good as the quantity. I took mama-san here a few times and she happily approves! They have a "bar/beer food" menu which is interesting. The dishes seems to be truly authentic, not the "caucasian influenced" menu that we now see.

yeah, the decor needs help, but the food and the selection is second to none for Seattle. What happened to all of the good VN restaurants around here? Every where I turn, all I see are pho restaurants and deli's. There are SO MANY MORE VN dishes besides pho and sandwiches, and Thanh Thao as a great selection of them. Try the Bo 7 Mon (7 course beef), Pho Ap Chao (chow fun), mi xao don (crispy fried noodles), banh xeo, banh cuon, or any of the grilled meat dishes...ah..I can go on and on and on.

I love the 7 course beef and I have tried it from many places but Thanh Thao is the worst of them all. The 7 course beef at this place is horrible and expensive. It's about 25 dollars for two people but the portion is tiny. They gave us a tiny piece of cha dum that is actually smaller than the rice bowl at home. There were only 2 pieces of bo la lot, and bo nuong mo chai. Their goi bo was so sweet and not even sour. The beef porridge was the most decent dish out of them all. It taste good but it's not exactly porridge but more like just water. This place is officially in my black list of never coming back again.

I really enjoy the food here. The bf and I usually get the Com Thanh Thao, except without the pork, we substitute it for short ribs. Although, the price is a little bit pricey comparing to other Vietnamese restaurant, however, you do get what you pay for. It comes with a large, flavorful prawn, sunny side eggs, shredded pork. It never fails to disappoint us. If you are ever craving for some bun mang viet (duck with bamboo) vermicelli soup, this is the place to go. Very flavorful. If you haven't tried it yet, their Cafe Kem (Vietnamese coffee with ice cream) is to die for. It's probably advised to drink it prior to bed. The last time I had it, it made me stay up all night. LOL Bad choice. I went to work like a zombie.

Nothing beats a hangover like good pho! The broth is always full of flavor and never bland. Not a fan of pho, this place still has whatever you need. The menu has a wide array of vietnamese dishes. Staff is friendly and prices are very affordable.

I love their #106 (grilled pork on a skewer) with rice. I had my coffee boba tea with lycee jelly. Absolute perfect combo for me! Been back here twice within 2 weeks. The last time I tried their pho were years ago. So I'll definitely be back for it! Yum!

Thanh Thao offers literally every Vietnamese dish you could ever think of, and they execute each dish so well... it makes you wonder what's it look like back there in the kitchen! The staff if very friendly and attentive. I've visited twice, and left pretty satisfied each time. Their Pho is on point; perfect serving size, rich flavor, a touch of oil from the beef bones and served at the just the right temperature. I've also tried, their Crispy Rice with Beef Shortribs...a bit on the oilier side, but nothing short of bombb. If you're a fan of crispy rice, you've got to try this dish! Always my first choice when I'm craving Vietnamese food in the Southend.

Thanh thao is my go to place if I'm not at our family's restaurant. I usually order everything, Banh Xeo is my favorite. I love everything except whatever is on page 6 (the exotic stuff. I'm afraid of that stuff, don't ask.) They have no problem with adding/adjusting or answering questions. The tables are clean, silverware is always put away, food is always on point, service is spotty but you know how it is at an asian restaurant lol. I don't care for the prices, i'll pay however much it costs to have their food in my belly. My only cons are: theres only one jar of satay sauce/chili oil and they're closed on mondays. I am really blessed to have Thanh Thao in my life. They've been there for me through everything, love, loss, euphoria/happiness, even those days where I felt dead.

A craving for banh xeo led me here last night. We had been to Rainier Restaurant so many times that we decided to try something new. My bf ordered beef stew. We also ordered a grass jelly and a che thai dessert. The beef stew was OK. The broth tasted like pho broth, just kicked up a notch. It wasn't nearly as good as other places. The beef was super tender, though. The banh xeo hit the spot! Very crispy and full of shrimp, sprouts, and chicken (or was it pork? I ate it too quickly). Came full of herbs and the fish sauce tied everything together. I was not a fan of the desserts. The che thai had way too much half and half and not enough "fruit". I would have preferred the same amount of fruit and half the amount of half and half. It was just too much.

I have been to this restaurant many times. I like that it has a very large menu with so many things to choose. On this outing we tried the pork in a clay pot and the grilled chicken over rice vermicelli. I think the pork in a clay pot was good and you could really taste the seasoning. I thought the chicken in rice vermicelli was cooked well but there needed to be some more fresh herbs in the salad mix. I like this place because the service is always good and they are very helpful with making suggestions if you are not sure what to try. I have never been disappointed yet.

Thanh Thao has been around since I can remember. I came here as a kid with my family and I still come here to this day. Very authentic, traditional Vietnamese food. Any Vietnamese dish that you can think of they will probably have it on their menu. PROS: Parking: Located on MLK in the same area as Viet-Wah so parking is plentiful. Food: They serve an assortment of traditional style dishes. Very generous portions. The last time my family and I dined here was for my mom's birthday. We ordered the seven course beef and bot chien (fried rice flour cake w/ egg). The seven course beef consisted of: 1. Beef salad 2. Steamed ground beef patties served with shrimp chips 3. Raw beef slices to be cooked in a vinegar broth 4. Beef sausages 5. Ground beef wrapped in a lalot leaf 6. Grilled beef scallion 7. Beef congee One of the better seven course beef dishes that I've had in Seattle. All the beef were tender, juicy and flavorful. There was plenty of garnishes, rice wrappers and veggies that also came with the dish. They are known for the bot chien (fried rice flour cake w/ egg). Very popular item on the menu. Probably the best that I've had! The dough is crispy on the outside yet hot and soft on the inside. The egg and flour mixture goes well with the soy base dipping sauce. I highly recommend it as a starter. I've had a variety of other dishes in the past, none have yet to disappoint me. Their family style dinner is also excellent. Price: Very affordable! CONS: Service: Generally decent service. Can be a little slow at times.

Wow! They have quite the extensive menu here. I like that they have a lot of popular Asian dishes and not just Vietnamese food. Although I came here specifically wanting to eat Vietnamese food, it's nice to know there's more on the menu. I'm so used to most Vietnamese places having just Pho and spring rolls on their menu, so coming here was a nice surprise. I can't complain about the service either. The woman that waited on us was very friendly and gave great suggestions. I'll definitely be back for more!

Growing up as a kid this has always been our go-to spot on Sundays with my grandfather. Best Vietnamese food in souf seattle. It has been around for ages and I believe this place will stay in seattle forever. I am not a pho person so I always get the rice dishes or congee!!! But their menu is so huge I always have a hard time deciding what I want because I do try different dishes on the menu and they always turn out so YUMMY!!!

I like to eat at Thanh Thao when I want "home cooking". I don't feel like I'm dining at a restaurant. It feels more as if I'm at someone's house. There is that minor detail where I have to pay at the end of my meal though. I typically get the family dinner. I like their sour soup which is loaded with an array of vegetables (you can have this with shrimp or catfish) and their clay pot cat fish (molasses-y, sweet, salty, fragrant & perfect with steamed jasmine rice). The family dinner comes with a mixed vegetable stir fry, steamed rice and some pickled vegetables. It's fairly healthy and delicious. I don't feel heavy and bloated at the end of the meal. I've also had the 7 courses of beef. Though not the best I've ever had it's fairly decent. For those who don't know what this is you basically make your own salad rolls at your table so it does require some work. It's a Vietnamese version of a Mexican burrito except instead of Spanish rice you get rice vermicelli noodles. Instead of beans, you get fresh vegetables. Instead of pico de gallo, you get a nuoc mam sauce to dip your salad roll in. They provide hot water to soak your thin rice paper in which binds everything together (this replaces a tortilla). Of course (the obvious) you should like beef because you'll get 7 variations of it. The first to arrive at the table is the paper thin slices of beef and a hot pot (similar to fondu) that has some rice wine vinegar and onions in it. You cook the raw beef in this "broth" and put the meat on your plate along with your preferred veggies and rice noodles before rolling it into a "burrito". You'll also receive various types of beef to use in your roll and typically a beef salad. The last dish to arrive is usually beef congee (rice porridge). It's a fun experience and perfect for 2 persons! I would suggest not to eat this alone. There are no fancy gimmicks. The only fancy thing about this place is they accept credit cards. When you're done eating, just head to the counter to pay. This is the typical method of most mom and pop Vietnamese restaurants in the south side. It ain't fancy yo. It's the south side.

This isn't the type of place you really go for the service or aesthetics, its a place you go to for some good Vietnamese food. It reminds me of those restaurants back where my mom is from in Malaysia and if you've been to SE Asia, then you probably know what I mean. There's so much on the menu so it can be overwhelming, but you can't go wrong with a rice dish or a noodle soup dish. My favorites are the rice combos with short ribs and a fried egg, especially the crispy rice one! My favorite noodle dish is usually Phnom Penh style noodle soup dish or something that isn't the typical Pho. Their family style dishes are pretty good too like the braised catfish. I like going here for lunch and am always happy with the food. I've never had to wait long to be seated or for the food to come out. I also love how close it is to Tony's Bakery!

I went to this restaurant for the first time with my family in 2013, and we tried seven-beef-courses. It was delicious. The portion was good, and the taste was also good. The second time, I came here again with my family and ordered family style dinner. To say the least, we finished everything, so the meals were well-prepared. I will definitely come back here again with my boyfriend to let him try the seven-beef-courses!

First, let me say, I'm very picky & particular; growing up & being from So. Cali (the greater L.A. area - 213 & 626). This was NOT our first choice of places to have dinner. Cause Rainier Restaurant & BBQ was UNEXPECTEDLY CLOSED. Just as MANY places outside of So. Cali, I am NOT impressed when it comes to "Asian" food. We ordered: 1) Sping Rolls, looked like the usual to me (being that I don't like them) & tastes "OK" (to my buddy that loves appetizers). So we'll give it a "5 out of 10". 2) Cha Gio (Fried Egg Rolls): Also, AVERAGE. Very typical & basic. 3) Deep Fried Intestines, I don't do Intestines in ANY form. But everyone else seem to like it. So I'll say based on their opinion, "8 out of 10" 4) Canh Chua Ca (Vietnamese Sour Catfish Soup): NOT the worst, but definitely SUB-PAR by everyone's standards. Lack of flavor, tartness/sourness that we're used to. The Soup get "4 out of 10" 5) Bo Luc Lac: HORRIBLELY DISAPPOINTED. EVERYTHING was wrong with this establishment's attempt of this dish. The cut of beef (MOST places it's Filet Mignon Cubes) was definitely NOT Filet Mignon. The way it was cooked was WRONG. With those 2 issues, the texture of the beef was completely OFF, of what we are used to. This gets "2 out of 10". 6) Bo Tai Chanh (which is supposed to be "Raw Beef" salad, was NOT as, ANYONE in my party, expected at all.) First, the beef was NOT thin sliced RAW beef. It looked like it was lightly boiled or pouched. NO flavor to the beef at all. The dressing/sauce did come on the side. But NOT to my liking. Don't even bother with this, "1 out of 10". 7) Ca Kho To (Clay Pot Braised Catfish): Decent, but small portion. "7 out of 10" 8) Tofu with Mushroom (also served in a clay pot): Also, decent, but nothing great. I'll say, "6 out of 10". So OVERALL from that 1 visit; I would NOT advise/recommend ANY one craving AUTHENTIC Vietnamese food to come here. I rate this place SOLELY ON THE FOOD.

I used to live right up the hill - literally walking distance from this place. Funny thing is, I only started to go there 6 months before I moved to Kent/Des Moines, WA. I love evvvverything about this place. My fiancé and I always get the same thing: Combination fried rice, mongolian beef, spring rolls, and grass jelly with milk and tapioca/boba. DELICIOUS. We should really branch out considering the massive menu, and we have but we love what we always get. We went so much, we didn't even have to say what we wanted and the owner who is so incredibly sweet knows who I am even when I do a phone order. There are not a lot of places that I will drive to Seattle for, but Thanh Thao is definitely one of them. My old grade school and high school friends go here all the time when we want to meet up and discuss old times and plan future things. As cheesy/corny as it sounds, this place will always have a special place in my heart because it never ever ever ever disappoints!

Came w my kid who was hungry for chicken pho. Tried the Com' Tam version 102. Pork chop, shredded pork, egg cake, added fried egg for good measure w Viet Coffee. Pretty impressed with the number choices on their menu which btw is foreigner friendly complete with photos of the entre. Good portion size and not over priced!

I've only tried their Banh Canh noodles and it's great! Even though I've heard bad reviews about the place, I still come here for their delicious noodles. I have zero complaints. They have a huge selection of all sorts of dishes! Can't wait to try them all.

Pho, egg noodles, chow mein, bun. All good food here. Their Che Thai is amazeballs. If you need a Vietnamese fix, make this your go-to. Service is okay, sometimes slow. So don't come here starving or in a hurry!

We highly recommend Than Thao. We are crazy for this place. So glad our washer broke down. Than Thao is next door to a laundromat and just down the hill from home so very convenient. We went there cuz of convenience but feel like we stumbled into a gem. Have tried several things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. Portions are generous and prices good. Than Thao will be a regular stop for us now. Oh, and staff is very friendly.

There were periods of time where I would come to this restaurant nearly every Friday... I love Thanh Thao, it is definitely one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the southend. They have QUITE the menu, and honestly every dish that I've gotten here, I've never ever been displeased. I love their rice plates, spring rolls (when they include noodles, LOL i say that because there have been a select few times where there weren't any noodles.) honey walnut prawns, vermicelli bowls, and omg, can't forget about that che bau mau. They have so many different things on the menu, it's ridiculousss. Five starts for thanh teezy, you never fail to disappoint me and I always leave w/ a full stomach. Yay

I grew up eating at this pho restaurant, so I was used to how the broth tasted. But compared to other pho restaurants, the broth does taste slightly different. Still good though. The prices are really cheap. Other dishes, not bad. This is one of my favorite pho places, though. Service isn't great, but it's okay. I always leave satisfied.

The quintessence of the super-shady Vietnamese restaurant that serves up some of the most delicious, authentic Viet food that you'll find in Seattle. I would assume that most of the ingredients come right from the Viet-Wah next door. Yeah, sure they serve rice plates and pho, but heck get those anywhere else. When my family and I come here, we go for the legit home cookin'. Ca kho tho, canh chua, do bien xao; stone pot fish, hot and sour soup, and mixed seafood, that is. With rice and tea. Unmistakable home-cooked flavor. If you didn't grow up eating Vietnamese food, then I'll tell you already that this place's food is the real deal. Everything is fresh and tasty. So alright, it's on MLK, not the most interesting of places. Then it's in a parking lot that gets filled to the brim when folks go shopping at the Viet Wah. Then there are glaring neon lights and strange decorations around. And the tables look a bit funky. But heck, the food is really good. Some of the best. And it wouldn't be a great Asian dig without some grunge. Plus they have Bo 7 Mon.

I ordered here just a Small pho, which is pretty good size if you are not SUPER hungry. And let me tell you, It was the best broth in Pho I've tried in Seattle. Maybe it was OSM because it was almost 10pm (closing time) Anyhow, I thought it was a great place to eat, and definitely coming back since they have tons of other dishes.

Good! Had salad rolls, spring rolls, small brisket pho and a lemongrass pork vermicelli. $25. Delicious.

i am really trying to hold back giving this place 3 stars...because of "ambiance" or --- lack of. their menu is great because it features many traditional courses that are typically made on a normal day in a Vietnamese household. a stir-fry dish, a salted/preserved dish, soup, etc. so it's great for family style and really it's probably the closest i could come to my mom's "normal" dishes. i'd recommend this restaurant for the experienced Vietnamese but not for someone who hasn't really ever had Vietnamese (except maybe pho once!) or doesn't know what they're ordering. long story short - food was good home style cooking but it's MLK --- and that's just not my scene. the end.

Good place with questionable appearance. Had the rice dish with pork chop/shredded pork/egg loaf. Even though it's basically the same dish as Pho My Chau, it was better. A bigger pork chop and a nice sized prawn as well. Solid dish. They also give you a simple broth soup as a starter. This was delicious. Very good, best broth I had in awhile and also I've been eating Vietnamese all week long. Can't really comment on the service since we knew the owners. But typical asian/vietnamese. Another thing I observed is, it ain't the cleanness of places. I thought it was kind of grimy looking. They could be totally sanitize and clean in the kitchen. But the front of the house needs improvement. All in all, good Vietnamese. Needs help in appearance but I'm not going to deduct a star because I actually do like the place. Worthwhile for the food.

Pho and Seattle are a perfect mix. Cold, drizzly rain. Rice noodles in hot, steaming broth. Mountains, lakes, ocean and trees. Basil leaves, jalapeños and bean sprouts. Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon and Starbucks. Round-eye steak, flank, briskit and meatballs. South Seattle is home to a wealth of small businesses, including many Vietnamese mom & pop shops. You can find a lot of great Vietnamese food restaurants down here along the Rainier Valley, Beacon Hill, and along MLK. And now with the Light Rail due to open, heading south to explore is going to just get easier. Thanh Thao is one of those little strip mall food places that you wonder about but have to muster the courage to walk into. Or, at least, you had to in the pre-Yelp days. When my dad came up to visit for my birthday, he wanted to have "some of that Vietnamese soup stuff!" We were working hard on my house all day, covered in paint, and not feeling up to a long trek to my usual "phovorites." This place has a lot of good reviews attached to it, and now it has another. The food was great, the spring rolls were tasty. My only issue with it was that we spent a long time sitting there ready to pay before we figured out that we had to head to the counter to settle the bill. And now you know.

I love their ice cream coffee. I don't go anywhere else for Vietnamese coffee. Once you get your coffee there you can't go anywhere else. Also food there is yummy. I like the one that looks like egg but not.. not sure what it's called in Vietnamese but its yummy. I also like their bom bui hue. I wish this Restaurant was close to my work

Best pho in the 98118. Tonight I tried the shredded chicken and cabbage salad (#11 I think). Simply great - light, sweet, spicy, fresh. Yum. And the people who work there are friendly and always give me hot tea while I wait for my take out.

A typical old asian restaurant. Bad decor and a tad bit dirty. Perfect place to go if your looking for a quick cheap meal. There's plenty of parking downstairs and lots of options when it comes to food choice. Wish I knew about this place sooner since its close to home and the food is damn tasty!

Possibly my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in town! Then again, I'm married to a Chinese guy so that ought to significantly decrease my credibility :) I go here at least once or twice a month. The alternate name for this restaurant is "Michelob Noodles." Why? Because there is a neon sign inside the restaurant that says this. No joke! You gotta go there to believe it. The food is nothing earth-shattering. Lots of authentic, home-style Vietnamese dishes that are quite delicious. Like other reviewers have commented, the ambiance is lacking and the the service is just OK. It is not an iPod Vietnamese restaurant. You can go to fricken Tamarind Tree for that. If you just want authentic Vietnamese dishes at low prices, come here...but leave your white friends at home. Trust me. I'm Vietnamese.

The food here's pretty good, I like the fried rice cake, and the crispy fried rice with beed short ribs. The prices here are a bit higher than other vietnamese restaurant in my opinion, everything's around $8 -$9 a dish, the menu however is very large, there's a lot of items so it's nice to go to a have a variety of choices to choose from.

Pretty good Vietnamese food. We had family style and almost everything was good except for the duck claypot dish from the family style menu.

Thanh Thao is an great place to dine with an eclectic menu spanning many cuisines with a primary focus on Vietnamese and Chinese food. The vermicelli rice bowls are fantastic, the Pho pretty average. On average it's not the best Viet/Chinese food I've ever had but everything I've tried there is authentic and consistently good with excellent prices. A great place for a quick dinner with friends or takeout. When dining alone I love watching the Vietnamese music videos and variety shows constantly blaring from the flat screen TV in the restaurant.

So it kind of looks like a hole in the wall and its on MLK but the food balances it all out. I had their Bun Bo Hue, hubby had the combo rice plate, kiddo had the pho. Mine was delish but I will have to remember to ask them to hold the onions. There were quite a bit in there. The hubby polished off his plate and was happy to find a fried egg on top. The kiddo ate his bowl of kid pho. Drink were good too. We had sam bo leung, 3 color jelly drink, and strawberry shake for the little one. Prices were cheap (I think each of our dishes was about $7-8 and a kid's pho was $3.50)). The service was nice but it might be because the friends that brought us here knew them!

Although, there are other items to order on the menu, I decided to order pho due to the positive reviews on their pho. The pho is ok, the meat was not dry and the broth did not have too much of an MSG flavor. I also ordered the Nem Noung (pork sausage) rolls. The nem nuong is actually good but there was hardly any of it in the roll. So it was like dipping lettuce rolled in rice paper. The dipping sauce was also watery (it's not supposed to be). This place is ok if you're desperate for a bowl of pho. Their nem nuong would be good if they weren't skimpy on the meat and if they didn't watered down their dipping sauce.

I have more and more friends in the South Side these days, so I was bound to come across a similar place like this sooner or later. If you happen to live anywhere near MLK, I can't recommend this place enough. Like Anthony Bourdain always says, it's a good sign if you are the only white people in there. I can't personally speak for authentic, but I know what I like. If you don't know what you like, there are very appetizing pictures for 80% of the menu.

Great food, wide selection, prompt service, delicious bubble drinks are just a few of my thoughts on Thanh Thao. This is our regular Sunday afternoon lunch stop after church. As with lots of pho places, the prices are low for quality so high. I recommend the rice plates, fresh grilled pork on skewers, beef or chicken curry, or the plates where you can construct your own wraps. My only criticisms are that when it gets busy, service may slow down...but of course it being a busy restaurant, that says something.

Never done a sit down meal here, but I've gotten pho to go several times, and it's fantastic! Great price and really good flavor. Definitely a great deal and really good food!
