I went here with a friend visiting. It's a very small place with friendly staff and an open kitchen vibe. I had the gulf prawn masala with polenta. The polenta was amazing! It was creamy, but not heavy. The prawns were cooked perfectly - not one was overdone - and the bok choy was cooked just right with great flavor. It wasn't too acidic or wet, which can happen sometimes when cooked. My friend had the clams and udon which he said was great as well. I'm giving it a 4 instead of 5 just because I wish they had a slightly larger menu, with a few more options in for each course, and also because the focaccia they bring out is far too salty. The salt was overpowering any herbs used.

We came here for our 1 year anniversary and were NOT disappointed! The chefs choice is the only way to go! We will be back soon! Thanks for a memorable dinner!

I discovered this place on Yelp, which was good because I would never have stumbled upon it accidentally. We went here for a date night at got the crudo, Korean fried chicken, and scallops and pork belly. I had the Peachy Keen cocktail, which I drank faster than any other cocktail I've ever had. It was incredibly delicious. The food was also absolutely perfect. We have been to a lot of restaurants around Seattle and few of those meals were perfect from start to finish. I will definitely come back here, and would recommend to anyone.

Dined here for the first time during Happy Hour and discovered amazing, fresh small dishes and excellent service. We only drink wine so can't comment on the creative sounding cocktails. The tuna crudo, farro fried rice, grilled apricot salad, fried padron peppers and tempura vegetables were delicious and beautifully plated. The server was attentive without hovering. The price for HH is reasonable. We'll definitely return.

The service was excellent. The ceviche was incredible as was the hazelnut salad. Our fish was great as well. The salmon was not cooked evenly however. The portion that was cooked more thoroughly was the best I have ever had. This could happen at any time, but I would return and try some other dishes. Also, they do not have a kids menu, which doesn't bother us for our 1.5 year old. But the owner threw in a free edamame for her to eat. I think we are most of it, but really thoughtful! The Orange Creme Brûlée was exquisite. I would return for simply that!

Bottom Line: Tanglewood is my all-time favorite restaurant in Seattle. It is a brilliant culinary experience that I would gladly pay double for. Good food is hard to find. Individual entrees are hard to find. Tanglewood does it all. Often when I describe a meal I will enjoy the main dish or the side as individually delicious but Tanglewood not only gets each individual dish right, it masterfully creates a culinary experience of unique flavors, combination of textures, and a rotating menu that changes with the season. I love this restaurant and intend to bring everyone who visits Seattle to Tanglewood Supreme. There is a good reason why they have been regarded as one of the top 5 places to eat seafood in Seattle.

The link to Open Table lost our reservation, but we did not know it until we showed up yesterday for dinner. Our first ever visit to this restaurant. Entered into this tiny business, but was not greeted for an awkward 3 minutes. The three patrons turned to look at us as well as the cooks at the bar area, but no "Hi." No, "Be with you in a moment." The place was dead at 6 pm. so no excuse not to acknowledge new customers. We were "fitted in" according to the host, and he gave us a table that was literally 2 small steps from their door! We got quite the cold breeze every time that darn door opened as some people entered. By 7:20 p.m. the place was still nearly empty. I think the bad weather kept people away causing some cancelations? Anyway, the host finally came by and apologized for seating us there--saying he expected more parties to show up that evening. Food: Delicious, but the beans in my salmon dish were cheap beans. Yet the dish cost $30! The salmon was the size of a deck of cards. Literally! It tasted good, but NOT $30 worth. Their goat cheese cheesecake left a gamey taste in my mouth, but it was presented well. The scallops were a tad overcooked and over salted. The kale that comes w/ the scallops was bitter. The venison was $30 and would satisfy the appetite of a small child. Portions here are like tapas, but artistically done well. Will not return. Too small. Too cold. And oh yeah, the bathroom was two steps from our table. Really sucked to even have a table in that location.

We came here on a Friday night and were able to get the last open table. I tried the Honeystung - a refreshing honey vodka cocktail - but it was a little light on flavor. I also had the Alaskan Weathervane Scallops, which were well-cooked, but also a little light on flavor. All in all, the food and drinks weren't good enough for the price.

Unreal is all I have to say! Unreal! The scallops were to die for, the chicken may have been the best I have ever had and the oysters were perfect! If you can't tell yet, we LOVED it! And we are not easy to get this sort of reaction from! Awesome! Thank you.

I hadn't been to Tanglewood since shortly after their opening. I had a great meal then and did again on this visit. Excellent flavors; I really like that the natural flavors of foods are what drive the preparation and not covered up by overpowering sauces, herbs, etc. Strong recommendation to lean toward seafood when ordering. The other things on the menu are still very good but seafood is where Tanglewood excels. The staff were very friendly and attentive, which made the dining experience that much better.

Went here for happy hour and dinner with my girlfriend and was not disappointed. We had a few drinks, some appetizers, a salad, and an entree. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was only moderately busy so we were able to be seated immediately, it did pick up closer to and after 6 however. But even with more people it was still comfortable and not overly loud or echoy. Very easy to hear those at your table. For the appetizers we had the salt and pepper tempura vegetables as well as the coconut risotto. The tempura vegetables were good, especially the quality of the vegetables but the ponzu sauce was a little bland for my taste. Felt like it needed a little bit more salt or was missing something. The coconut risotto however was wonderful, and I would definitely order it again. We also tried the clams, with bacon and a few other ingredients. The broth was excellent, as well as the quality of the clams themselves. They were on the small side, but they accompanied this with bread as an extra medium to enjoy the broth with. Size was ok, given this was just an appetizer portion. For the quality the prices were great. For the salad and entree we ordered the pear salad and the Alaskan scallops. The salad was a great mix with a lot of different flavors and textures, however the highlight was definitely the scallops. They were perfectly cooked over vegetables and came with what I can only describe as a balsamic cream tasting sauce (sure you could get the exact sauce on menu). Pair ed perfectly with the scallops and definitely wanted more. For the scallops they were a bit on the pricier side for the portion that you receive in my opinion however. Drinks were also wonderful, had a few glasses of wine and my girlfriend had a whiskey based cocktail (name escapes me, included orange!). Cocktail definitely not watered down and had some great quality liquor. Would love to come back and try some of the other offerings on the menu. All-in-all, I'd recommend this restaurant as being worth a shot! Food was good, drinks were excellent, I only give this 4 stars however due to some of the price points and portion sizes for certain dishes. Overall though very much worth a visit!

We spent the meal in silence. For a table of talkers, this can only occur when the food is superb. This is a truly spectacular food experience. I had the RR Ranch Sirloin with the Korean Chili Demi Glacé...it melted in my mouth, and every piece of the meal was equally great. The fingerling potatoes were sautéed and salted to perfection, and the broccolini was crisp. The only thing lacking is the location and view. It's on a back alley that's hard to see if you don't know your way around Magnolia, and the sign is unimposing. With space for about 26 people and another 6-8 spots at the bar, it's quiet and intimate. The decor is sparse, yet colorful and unique. We loved our experience. A delightful evening filled with excellent fare.

You are going to have a larger-than-life tasting experience in this small and efficient restaurant. We split about 8 appetizers during their 4pm-6pm "Happy Hour". OMG. Just amazing. You must have the fried rice with an egg on top, the scallop ceviche and the citrus prawns. The price range should be listed as $$$ (instead of $$). *the owner was there and very attentive to us!!* Laurie T. - Magnolia

This place has good food! The service isn't as good as I expected it to be, but it could have been an off day. They aren't rude, but they are a bit sterile/cold. The food is very fresh as it seems they get in fresh ingredients daily. We sat down at 7 pm and they were already out of at least one appetizer, and by 8:30, they were out of 3 out of 7 entrees (the table that was seated near us around 8:30 left without ordering because of this). It was mid week though, so I'm not sure if it was because they get in ingredients daily or if they ran out before their weekend delivery was made. (Update, see below) The portions are on the smaller side, so you don't leave stuffed. Prices aren't cheap, but I will gladly pay for good quality food! Atmosphere is very chic, a little bigger than How to Cook a Wolf, but small, cozy style with open kitchen and lots of yummy smells. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely be back. Update** I was contacted by the chef (quick response) and was told that it was an unusually busy day which is why they ran out of some entrees. So I think my first hunch of super fresh ingredients was right since we both ordered seafood and it was amazingly fresh! The mussels and clams I had didn't have any fishy/ocean flavor whatsoever (I grew up in Hawaii so I should know good seafood), and my friend's scallops were done perfectly. No rubbery overcooked nonsense here! Definitely a win and I will be back! Thanks!!

The hubby and I were wondering where to eat on our last night in Seattle. Thanks to yelp we found this place. The restaurant was tucked into a suburban neighborhood just outside of the waterfront. The restaurant was small but well decorated with understated elegance. The host was very friendly and our waiter was very informative. We ordered 2 happy hour appetizers and a main course to share. 1. Indian spiced risotto appetizer has lovely tamarind and mint flavor. It tasted amazing. 2. Marinated sea beams appetizer has a delicate lime flavor and a nice crunchy texture. Very refreshing for a summer evening. 3. Main course: wild king salmon with vegetables and rice was awesome. The fish was cooked to perfection with a lovely crispy salmon skin as a garnish. The salmon skin was so thin and crispy it's quite possibly the best piece of salmon skin I've ever had. The vegetables and rice was equally impressive. We didn't have a lot time on this visit. We will for sure come back to try their other dishes when we're in town again.

Ventured here with a girlfriend for happy hour and was blown away! We walked in and were instantly greatly ever so warmly, sat at the chefs counter and proceeded to try just about all the dishes on the happy hour menu. Everything was so good!! This place is bright and welcoming on the inside and has such friendly staff and amazing food and drinks, if you are ever in magnolia you need to come check it out! You also need to have the ceviche, dark chocolate torte and the peachy keen!!

Date night dinner here last weekend and had a great time. Very personal atmosphere and the food was delicious. I had the Salmon and Leigh-Ann had the scallops - both were done to perfection! We'll definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu!

Holy Mother. I wanted to go on a foodie-date with my bf and try a place we haven't been before. So after what seemed like hours on Yelp, I was lucky enough to get a reservation at Tanglewood Supreme. And supreme it is. The restaurant is very small and is somewhat "hidden" on a small street. (Or maybe it's not hidden at all, and I wasn't wearing my glasses.) There are about 10 tables or so, plus bar seating. The noise level in here was pretty high, but we were still able to have a conversation, so no biggie. The menu is small, but it's not underwhelming by any means. I was stuck between a couple of dishes, but ended up choosing the quinoa & pear salad and the bacon-coated chicken breast. My bf got the potato broth soup and the Oregon Lamb Osso Bucco. I started the dinner off with two Cha Cha Cha Cherry Bombs. Mind you, they were one after the other, not two at a time. Not too sweet but cherry enough... and it sure helped to take the edge off the stressful week I had. My salad was great-- I wish I could make my quinoa at home. Time to do some experimenting! I had a taste of the lamb, and it was very tender and juicy. I liked it until I realized what he actually had ordered. (I have this thing for eating meats other than beef, chicken, turkey, and fish. Don't judge.) The mashed potatoes were incredible... it was like little heavenly potato clouds. I gotta get my Thanksgiving mashed potatoes up to par! Oh. And the brussels sprouts that came with my entree? I have never seen or tasted more ideally cooked sprouts. They were a gorgeous green color, not mushy, but nowhere NEAR overcooked, so it was more like a sweet intense cabbage than a kale-cousin. (Can you tell that I overcook my sprouts?) BUT THE CHICKEN AND POTATO SOUP, THOUGH. Oh man. The chicken. It was so perfectly cooked, so wonderfully breaded... I feel like Homer Simpson thinking about a frosted pink donut, drooling all over my keyboard. DAMN that chicken was great. ...lest I forget the soup. It was... like a gourmet loaded baked potato soup, but just the broth that you'd get from it. I wanted 3 more bowls. But it wasn't even mine. (My bf was a sweetheart and traded me the last half of my salad for the last half of his liquid heaven.) Get a little Tangle taste. Or two. You won't be sorry. Or at a minimum, maybe you'll be inspired to cook your own dinners that much better... because now you know it can be done. And knowing is half the battle.

Had a great experience. Did the tasting menu and was not disappointed. We were served a wide variety of seafood. The scallops were good, but not perfect, but paired with pork belly was very tasty. The salmon was wonderful. The desserts, only two, are personal favorites and made for an excellent finish.

This place is fantastic. We went with the tasting menu which is the way to go for your first time because it exposes you to so many of the dishes on the menu. For the starters the Ceviche with lime and chile and served with plantain chips rocked. But the best was the tenderized and grilled octopus. I think this is the best octopus dish I've ever had. Paired with 2011 Mercer Estates (Yakima valley) Sauvignon blanc was perfect. Main course seared sashimi grade tuna was among the best I've had. The scallops were beautifully prepared and very tender. The basil ice cream with a candied basil leaf was a great finish. Their wine prices are extremely reasonable $30 - $60+ and well thought although the selection is limited. Small intimate space with full exposure to the kitchen. I'll definitely be back.

This was the best meal my girlfriend and I have ever had together. It can be hard to please us both on the same night but this place did it. We are new to Seattle and it was our first real date up here. The service was incredible; personal, attentive, and friendly staff. The food was amazing. The scallop ceviche, the Indian spiced risotto, the vegetable frittes, the salmon, everything was amazing. The music selection was great too; mac demarco, flaming lips, and the pixies? This place was on point.

Great food. But... this restaurant is located in an alley, where the only view are the garbage/food waste cans of neighboring businesses. I'm not a picky guy, but this kind of view disrupts proper digestion, IMHO. Unless they find a way to address the view (ie - move) or find a creative way (yes, more than just a small votive candle) to make the ambiance better, then I don't see how this place will ever succeed in the long term. One other thing: I enjoyed my scallops so much I wanted to compliment the chef. I believe in giving credit where/when it's due. I asked my waiter for the name of the chef, and he did NOT know (?!) How - tell me how, can you properly represent your business if you don't even know the name of the chef?!

  • Gisselle L.

The food here is amazing. My husband and I did the tasting menu and it was def. worth it. I would come here again. The only downside is the location is in an alley so at first I wasn't sure if we were in the right location...plus side is the interior of this place is really nice so it made up for it :-)

  • Roger H.

Found this on Yelp and as usual we were not disappointed. We went for early supper and mostly ate off of the happy hour small plates menu. Everything was fantastic. We did order the octopus appetizer although it's not on the HH menu. Best octopus I have ever eaten. The salmon tartare was superb as was the Winter Squash Latke. Service was great. It was very sparsely populated at 5pm on Friday evening but we sat at the chef's bar anyway and enjoyed watching the prep. If you're in the Magnolia area - which is a way cool and venerable neighborhood in Seattle - definitely go to Tanglewood Supreme.

A bit far from us but totally worth the trip! We still rave about their octopus dish after eating here months ago! Everything that we ordered were fresh and flavorful. The service was very attentive, friendly, and non-pretentious.

I have no idea how this place is rated so highly. They have 7 entrees on the menu. When I arrived they were out of 2 of them. One of the people in my party was planning on ordering one of those 2 items and when she told that to the waiter he was not accommodating at all. I had the Clams & Tagiatelle. It was very bland and flavorless. They also told us they did not have anymore bread because the restaurant was to busy. I guess being half full is to busy. If I ever had the opportunity to go back to Tanglewood I would probably just skip it and get a stouffer's dinner from the grocery store. They are about on par in flavor.

Wow amazing food! Our table ordered the Albacore salmon loin, Painted Hills skirt steak, and King salmon. I tried some of everyone's and they were all delicious. The serving size is smaller then you would find in a chain restaurant but still plenty of food to fill you up. They had a small wine list but one of each kind of wine any person would want. We got their Syrah. This is not the place to come in a hurry though! Food comes out slowly but it was worth the wait. Make reservations! We went on a Wednesday night and they were packed! Their dessert menu consisted of a goats milk cheesecake and a molten chocolate cake. I tried a bite of both and they were delicious!

Went due to fantastic Yelp reviews. The food definitely met expectations of imaginative and high quality tasting menu. Portions are smaller but definitely adequate if all 5 courses consumed, billed as 3 apps and 2 entrees plus dessert. Diners should plan on two rushed hours. Our server was less than helpful and quite disorganized. When asked, he would not or could not guide whether a seafood or meat appropriate wine would be best. Cocktails were ordered along with an Oregon pinot. A pinot gris would have been more appropriate. it would also have been nice to receive the cocktail first instead of with the third course. They may have had to go off site to get the wine it took so long. The food deserves 4.5 stars and service is less than three. I appreciate the NW centric wine list but lacks diversity. Would recommend bringing a special bottle and purchasing a wine or cocktail for the apps. About $85 pp tasting menu, with alcohol and tip.

Just moved to seattle and needed a restaurant for some foodie guests. Thank you yelp for this wonderful recommendation ! We had the tasting menu which I think is a great deal -$45 for 7 courses. I often can't do tasting menus as I don't eat much meat. Tasting menu here was all seafood or vegetarian. Not sure if that is Always the case or if it was just the night we were there. Every course was delicious and unique. My guests were still talking about the slow cooked salmon 3 days later. Liked the open kitchen. If you like to watch food being prepared you should sit at the bar. Had to take off one star because our server was professional but very unfriendly.

So good! Booked a week in advance and it was totally worth it. I'm not big on seafood so I got the bacon coated chicken, holy shiz balls that was the best cooked chicken I've ever had. The bill wasn't that bad and the service was great!

We went here with high expectations and unfortunately left a little underwhelmed. They lose one star for not having a bartender and a stocked bar. The waiters double as bartenders and they were polite, nice, accommodating, but they are not bartenders. The food was good (tasting menu). But I was left desiring more. Also the waiter didn't know what the next dish was so I couldn't pair my next course with a glass of wine. Picking a bottle to go with 7 dishes doesn't work for me. Please pair the food with wine for me (I miss you Elemental). All in all too expensive for what you get. The staff gets 5 stars they were all very nice.

This is one of our favorite restaurant in Seattle. Seriously people if you like really good food you need to go here now! Tonight was our second time here and we sat at the chefs bar. It was great to be able to see them making our food as we went. So there was some weird acropolis in Seattle tonight because the media hyped up the traffic issues in Seattle this weekend. It was a little like a ghost town. The restaurant was a little quiet but that just meant we made it through the 7 course tasting menu in record time. We love everything about this place. It's small and in an alley but if you are a true foodie who cares... U care about how the food tastes and the awesome service. I seriously cannot think of place I Seattle that has as high caliber food as this place for the price. Seriously people $45 for a 7 course tasting menu, it cannot be beat! The service is has been exceptional both times we visiting and the owner is almost alway there, walking around and helping out, visiting with customers etc. We will continue to frequent this amazing restaurant and tell our our friends about it because we believe it is one of the best in Seattle. Go now, you will not be disappointed and if you are you are a dud!

Amazing food and service! This is Seattle's best kept secret. Their happy hour is a great way to try bits of the menu. It is primarily seafood and the presentation is very classy, so if you aren't into "foodie" restaurants, you won't like this, but just know you're missing out!

First of all, I must say this place was YUMMY. I have nothing against the quality of the ingredients, how they prepare and combine them, the artistry and skill of the chef. BUT ! and that's why it saddens me to write a mixed review, but I'm not scared to be vocal about my opinions when I think it's right. And I did communicated restaurant directly after the dinner about everything I write here. It was about the tasting menu. As I see some previous customers at yelp happy, so it might have been one of those weird night, but I wasn't happy at all. In fact we left restaurant very sad and completely HUNGRY to the point, decided to go another restaurant (Shiro's Sushi at Belltown-was not too good) spending another $100. That's not something I expected, and no diner should experience after 7 course meal, spending over $120 or so plus tip. I guess there are several things contributed to this very experience. 1. high expectation. 2. Tasting menu not described well 3. Wrong portion and misguided value 4. For the restaurant's sake, they did make the effort to fix our problem and tried to make us happier, although it was not exactly the way which could really have saved us, but I do appreciate the effort. Expectation: Before deciding to go Tanglewood, I read the reviews carefully, and thought this would be just right place for us; we are adventurous eaters who care about ingredients and art of preparation. We considered The Whale Wins and Hervest Vine as well, but since we wanted to eat seafood we settled with Tanglewood. I picked the place so I was feeling responsible for making that choice. Menu description: So the restaurant offers "tasting menu", stating "......allow our kitchen to prepare a supreme culinary journey....". From my experience, the "tasting menu" has been always about experiencing what really the chef and restaurant is about. It usually meant more value and flare. I hardly ever seen anything "same" off from the menu. Here, we got EVERYTHING off from the menu . I also asked the waiter what was "tasting menu" about but I only got very vague description. If he had described me as "Chef will pick one entree, 4 appetizers exactly off from the menu but in smaller portions. It comes with a cup of soup and a dessert" (That what happened), then I WOULD HAVE NEVER ordered it. Portion: So the course started very beautifully, with very small plates, but it was all small plates exception to the entree (6th dish). Soup was in a very tiny "cup", and all 4 appetizers were on the plate about 6 inches in diameter- a bit bigger than a CD). The entree was just two "sliced" piece of albacore...perfectly prepared...yet just too tiny for an entree. To make things worse.....I looked at next table, checking their plate sizes. They looked BIG and GOOD !!!!! The salmon looked thick and big over nice sized salad, they were raving about how good looking those scallops were. The appetizer salad with cheese was way bigger while ours were tiny trying to fit on this tiny plates... I estimated ours 1/3-1/4 regular portion or less. So I started to think...maybe this "tasting menu" meaning that I won't get unique dishes but worse getting smaller portion with "split plate fee" type thing...(ours looked split plate too me. I didn't see the regular albacore dish, but would you pay $24 for two pieces of albacore ? I assume that regular plate had AT LEAST four pieces). Value vs choice: As the menu is reasonably priced, I started to do some calculation. We ordered two $45 menu, which meant I could order AT LEAST two entree and three appetizers of MY CHOICE, and perhaps more. So then what's the point of getting tasting menu while GIVING UP TO CHOOSE MYSELF, completely trusting chef to get nothing special, but regular stuff in smaller portions ? If the price is a bit higher but with better portion with "wow" factor might have worked better for us. Sad thing is that I kept wishing that I could have ordered king salmon tarter and octopus, and salad as an appetizers, Ling cod and Scallops as entree. Then we would have ordered some oysters or other stuff as we needed. Would have been super happy diner. Aftermath: Waiter/restaurant made an effort to fix our problem after I communicated those issues. They offered more dessert, although I was just hungry for food, not sweets. They also offered the small discount on our tasting menu, which I thought was a very right move for the waiter. But if they have let us know before dessert we could order one more entree or more -which could have solved entire problem. Conclusion: It's a type of restaurant that I would LOVE to support, original, independent, with simply good food. The regular menu offers great value for seafood for it's ingredients and careful preparation. As for the Tasting Menu, hope they fine-tune the little things which can change great dining to a disastorous one depending on the expectation and the customer's tast

This was our best meal from our trip to the West Coast! The dining room is intimate, yet spacious enough to sit comfortably. The waiter was very patient with our table and thoroughly explained the entrees and his recommendations. We started with a few salads and the the oysters, which were delicious. The wine and beer selection is great too. For the entrees, I had the clams over pasta. I'm usually not a crazy clam person, but wanted to give it a try. It was amazing. The portion was fair and the seafood was fresh. We ended the meal with dessert and couldn't have been happier with our experience.

Not the biggest menu, but what they do, they do exceptionally well. The drinks are outstanding. The wine list is extensive and priced fairly. The salmon and flat iron steak were fabulous. Great attention to detail by everyone, including the owner. Thank you so much!

Ok. Seriously. Check the hours on when this place is open. Is it right now? Then GO! NOW. Your tastebuds will thank you. From the moment we walked in, everything about this place was perfect. Simple, intimate decor. Incredibly friendly staff who truly make you feel like the neighbor you are stopping in for dinner and a chat. And the food. Just SO well done. My hubby and I opted for the tasting menu (which was quite reasonably priced, might I add), which was the perfect way to get all the best highlights of the menu. The marinated octopus and the seared, spiced tuna loin particularly stood out. Each dish, however, cleverly leveraged a carefully selected choice of limited ingredients and flavor profiles to combine with excellent preparation to make a final imaginative course much more impressive than just the sum of its parts. Yes, a Magnolia back alley is hard to find and out of the way for many of you, but I assure you it's worth it! S Magnolia can't-miss.

My memory is a little fuzzy since I ate here a few months ago, but my annoyance at the misleading reviews is still strong enough to compel me to write a review. This place served the worst meal I've had in Seattle. And yesterday I ate a friend's stir fry that was slightly burnt. The salmon tartar appetizer was sub-par and miniscule, If I hadn't gone so far out of my way, I would have left at this point. But I was in the middle of nowhere and hungry. The main dish was lentil and salmon loin and was really the coup de grace. This was the blandest lentil dish I have ever eaten. Lentils are a perfect vehicle for spice, but instead it tasted like oversalted cardboard. I'd also add that this place is actually a three- rather than two-$ establishment. It's pricy.

Came here for birthday dinner on a quiet Tuesday night. Low-key ambience and unpretentious service coupled with absolutely delicious food. Had oysters appetizer - so tasty. Tasted both the scallops and the tuna. Reasonably priced for gourmet food (~20-25 for entrees). Highly recommend both. This is a must-try destination establishment well worth the trip to Magnolia for those outside the neighborhood!

Celebrated our 10th anniversary here tonight. Simply fabulous. Sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the meals. The flavors were the best I've experienced in a long time. We'll be back!

Before beginning to describe Tanglewood, I'll just mention what 5 start means to me. - an overall memorable experience that differentiates a restaurant from others, and gives me no hesitation in recommending it to others - not only delicious food, but distinguished food. - an ambiance.... Not a particular kind, but its own. What doesn't play a role: No lost stars for less than huge portions. You should know from reviews ahead of time what you might get, or ask the servers. Portion size is a choice by a restaurant. It makes me a Sad Panda to see that a lack of chain-restaurant 2000kcal portions leads some to give a bad review. This place is an easy five star. I'd recommend it to you or anyone who wants a fantastic dining experience. It is a small, intimate, cozy ambience and friendly servers, as well as out-in-the-open cooks. High ceilings prevent any feeling of being cramped. All the food was amazing. We had the well-known sake poached octopus, which lived up to the billing. If you think you don't like octopus, try this. Succulent octopus is very difficult to prepare - so it is usually hidden in a deep fried format. Not so here. We also had the clams and mussels - the seafood itself was fresh and huge, and the savory bacon stock was amazing. And we had the scallops, with in season ruttebega that was diced. And, here is a story that explains good service. The last power for an hour and I got called that they wouldn't be able to serve us. Bummer! But loved the phone call to avoid us driving there. And then, to our great happiness, they called back 20 minutes later that the power returned and we could go. Name the restaurants that would do that, and do so gracefully.

I didn't want to drive to Magnolia from First Hill on a Friday evening, but I'm SO GLAD I did. I loved everything: the counter, where we sat & watched the chef and his helper (from Farestart--yay!) prepare dinner after gorgeous dinner; the bartender AKA owner, who made a martini to beat all; my octopus starter and scallop dinner, both presented beautifully and tasting delicious, and the friendliness of our waiter. Parking was easy, unlike other neighborhoods I tend to frequent. It's noisy, like many restaurants these days. I didn't mind the lack of view from the windows because the show was inside. Highly recommended, and I'll drive back to Tanglewood again any time!

Sat at the bar, which, given the spartan rest of the place, is prime real estate. The show put on by the cooks was enjoyable, and the service was attentive. Nice selection of good sounding menu items. We enjoyed a drink, appetizers, salad and dinner. But, something was missing: Oh, yes....BREAD. I know for some of us born in the 1960's that it's becoming a quaint relic to have bread brought out, but, when you drop $100 for two, a hunk of good bread would really compliment a nice meal and be very appreciated. I finally realized this after my entree arrived, so I kinda shrugged off the idea of asking for it. I frankly don't think I should have to. And, I certainly am annoyed when I'm told it's an additional $2 or $3, as is the case in some restaurants. (In fairness to Tanglewood, I'm not aware of that being the case there--for all I know, there's not a hint of bread on location.) The food was nicely prepared with good flavors, although one dish was rather bland. (Note to staff: In addition to bread, salt & pepper being available without asking--especially in front of the cooks--would be a nice touch.) I'm rooting for Tanglewood; I just hope they follow the lead of their neighborly, older brother Szmania's and offer their guests some nice artisan bread.

My husband and I have been here twice with my in-laws, a year apart from visits, and received the same exquisite food and attentive service both times. We were pleasantly surprised to have the same waiter both times - the fact that he's still employed here speaks volumes about a lot of things. We honestly returned solely for the goat cheese cheesecake, but all of our meals were excellent. I originally chose to dine here because of Tanglewood's local and sustainable seafood, so I've gotten seafood both times. My family has also gotten chicken and beef choices, though, and they have been equally delicious. I have to compliment the family Old Fashioned recipe as well. This is my favorite cocktail and they get it just right. And back to the cheesecake. We found out the first year that the owner comes from a background of being a pastry chef. I'm not sure if he actually plays a role in any of the cooking, but I can only think his mastery of sweets influences the desserts offered. We are eager to go back and only wish the best success for this neighborhood gem.

Fresh, local, inventive seafood with a sophisticated but unpretentious ambiance. Cool open (very open) kitchen. Four of us shared a bunch of appetizers and four fish entrees and loved them all. The vegetables and grains accompanying the fish were just as amazing as the fish itself. This is our go-to for visiting foodee friends looking for great seafood. The only negative is the slightly strange location sort of in an alley in Magnolia, but the tradeoff is that you can actually get a reservation. I'll take that deal all day.

The Chief is amazing there. If you seat at the bar you'll definitely enjoy all the backstage of your meal preparation. Food is veeeery gooood. King salmon which I've had was fantastic and oysters were super-delicious. It is slightly expensive, but worth that money.

One of my favorite new restaurants in Seattle from the last year. We've gone twice in a number of weeks and it was absolutely nailed both times. Highly recommend sitting at the bar and watching ingredients become fantastic meals. Kent and the team are a pleasure to visit with, and the price/value you receive dining here is amazing, IMO. Properly portioned food, from the appetizers to the entrees, superb flavors and really solid timing across the board. The Tanglewood Stew makes for a nice starter in the small portion, and the fish selections rival some of the long-established players in the Seattle market. Very welcoming to bringing a bottle of wine and the corkage is pretty friendly, too. Oh, and have dessert.

Visited this place last night. I have had the best Oyster on the half shell ever. The black cod dish was fantastic. Fish was fresh and moist. The service was nice and atmosphere is cute/modern and cozy. I had a good time there.

Very good seafood, and reasonable prices. The stew came with the biggest mussels I've ever seen and was only $10! Portions are not huge, but the stew and a small salad was definitely a satisfying lunch. Sitting at the bar is fun as you can watch the cooks work. Service was pleasant. The place was a little noisy and only about half full. One of the menu items was out which was too bad as it looked delicious - will have to come back to try it! Parking was ok, but it can get pretty tight.

So we ask and they have a " full bar" - good, because we like cocktails before eating. My wife orders a screwdriver and "we can't make that". Okay, never mind. We never got to the menu - if you can't master a simple drink?

A friend and I visited for the tasting menu back in June, and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Simple, unpretentious, carefully crafted, and above all, effing delicious! :) We sat at the counter and watched the chefs, and "well oiled machine" does not even begin to describe how well the chef and his staff interact with one another. Guidance from the chef to his sous chef was often communicated without a single sound, and I can't tell you, from a diner's perspective, how extraordinary it was to watch great chefs do their thing and have it NOT interrupt your conversation and the pleasant ambiance that should accompany a great restaurant. Obviously, the chef cares about all aspects of the dining experience, and if there's one thing I care about and am a stickler for, it's details like these. Great service, too - personable, knowledgeable, and efficient. On top of all of this, it was very affordable! Excellent work, Tanglewood Supreme. My friend and I recount our experience with you often!

Not sure about this place . Their reach may exceed their grasp. At prices that should deliver excellent quality, it feels too much like a work in progress. The food is trying too hard to be special instead of being yummy. Service is not mature, trying way too hard to please or missing the boat completely. We liked the quirky location. Just wondering if the crew can bring this high flyer in for a smooth landing from what feels like a bumpy flight.

I just made my first visit after many attempts , all my fault for not planning ahead and making a reservation .... they are a must due to the limited table's wait was worth it the entrees were excellent ( scallops and salmon) , they were not your usual PNW type seafood plates they were extremely creative how they were plated and combined with different sides that really enhanced the dishes. the cocktails were very good and the list of available wine was small but most people can fine a good choice from it. My only wish was that the portions were slightly larger.

  • Loe B.

Awesome seafood. We got to sit at the counter because the tables were full (small dining area-recommend reservations). They dont have an extensive list of liquor or wine but what they have is good enough- and their craft cocktails are quite tasty so give 'em a shot! We had the grilled octopus for appetizer which was suprisingly really good seeing as that I've had octopus before and didn't really like it- and actually we had ordered the last of the octopus that night...they also ran out of oysters. For entree we had the albacore and sablefish, and for dessert- chocolate lava cake. Everything came out perfectly and I would order all of it again. The woman next to me was obsessed with her seafood stew, which I may have to try next time!

Took my wife (and her mother) here for her birthday. All of our meals were exquisite! There was nothing ordinary about the menu here. We had the Halibut, Rabbit and the Flat Iron Steak. How they manage to do such different items so well is something many Seattle restaurants should learn. The oysters and shrimp appetizers are not to be missed. I'd give'em 10 stars if it was allowed.

Came here for a Valentine's Day dinner. Everything was very classy; the 5-course meal was spaced nicely. Enjoyed the complementary champagne, and the owner's wife came around taking polaroids and handed them out to all the couples as a free momento. It was a really nice gesture!

Fantastic seafood bistro. Pricey and intimate, but well worth it. If you're in Magnolia and you're looking for a nice seafood dinner, I'd easily recommend them over Palisade in terms of food quality. The view at Palisade is better, but I feel like Palisade knows they've got a good view and let the quality of their food slip a little bit as a result. Tanglewood Supreme is on a weird backalley street adjacent to a pizza place parking lot. You'll probably see a couple pizza delivery guys driving by from your seat in the small restaurant while you're dining. It's the epitome of a hidden gem. It is a tiny bistro. Maybe 10 tables in the whole place. There is an open kitchen that takes up about 40% of the floor space. Luckily, getting a reservation for a Friday dinner at 7:30 wasn't too difficult, but I don't anticipate that that's typical. The menu is carefully planned out and the flavors are matched very well. The steamed clams as an appetizer were out of this world. So dang good. I was using the emptied out clams to ladle the broth into my face because it was so good. I probably could have asked for more bread in order to look like less of a heathen, but ain't nobody got time fo' dat! I got the scallops and pork belly as my entree and they were very good. The watermelon vinaigrette was a surprisingly tasty pairing. It was a little on the small side for $30, but they did present it nicely. I guess that's to be expected when you go to a place where food is treated like art. That brings me to my next point- they have a 5 course tasting menu for $50 ($40 for the vegetarian option, if you're into that). The couple next to me was enjoying that and I saw that a slightly smaller version of the scallops and pork belly was included in that 5 courses. That seems to be the smart play where you'll get the most bang for your buck, especially since the standard menu items are around $30. The only downside is that they say to expect to wait for 2 hours to experience all 5 courses. Hopefully you're there with someone you like! The cocktail menu is A1 as well. Most drinks on the menu are $9-10 and they are PACKED with booze and are also delicious. I'd recommend the "Dad's Old Fashioned". I don't know what was in it, but I'd estimate that there was 3x the alcohol in there relative to your typical old fashioned. My one complaint it that service is a little slow. We didn't do the 5 course tasting menu, but it still took 1.5-2 hours to get through the whole process. It's very friendly and helpful for the most part, but I feel like they'd be better from a business standpoint if they could churn more people through the small dining area so that a larger quantity of people could experience it.

Great cocktails. Attentive service. Delicious food. What more can you ask for? Best seats are the counter seats where you can see everything in action. After placing my order, I can see the rest of the menu beautifully plated and it makes me want to go back to try the rest. :)

Excellent happy hour deal. Unique dishes. Had a cold soup there (avocado and lemon) and it was fantastic. Delicate flavors, top quality ingredients, not that expensive. This place is a bit under the radar but well worth checking out.

This may be one of the most fancy restaurants in the village. It is very delicious and the service is excellent. The food is good though I don't remember much of it. The dishes are small but flavorful. This is more of a place you would take someone to impress them. It is more about the experience than the food at this place. My Personal Restaurant Rating Key One star: the food was bad and I had a negative experience. Two star: I had a more negative experience and would not come here again but the food was good so I may. Three store: everything is good except one thing. Example-the food is good, the price is more reasonable but the atmosphere is lacking class. Or the food is good, the atmosphere is good, but they over charged us. These three stars are actually my favorite types of restaurants to go eat at if the reason is due to the atmosphere because they are usually delicious and reasonably priced. Four stars: Everything is great, food, experience but the price may be on the upper end. I would not recommend this first to Obama unless he didn't like my five stars. These are restaurants you can take your boss or your mother-in-laws to impress them. A bit fancier than my three stars, hence I don't often eat here unless there is an occasion for it or there is a groupon that gives me a bit of a discount! Five stars: I would recommend this to Obama. The price may be on he upper end.

Located in the cute and quaint magnolia village, almost hidden in one of the alleyways. This place is literally a hidden gem. The restaurant is small, but very stylish and well put together. It was easy to get a last minute reservation for a Thursday evening on open table. Apparently, if you want to get on the "chef's table" you have to specify that ahead of time in your reservation. I saw that they also have a happy hour from 4-6pm, I'll have to be back for that. I love that they allow you to bring your own bottle of wine. The corkage fee of $18 is waved during the weekdays! We brought in a nice bottle of Txakolina from Champions wine cellar. I ordered the soup of the day to start, it was a cold avocado soup with chicken salad and fried arugula, really creative and delicious. It was tangy and refreshing, enjoyed it very much. For the main, I ordered the king salmon. It's cooked medium rare, which I usually don't prefer for salmon, but it was very flavorful that I hardly noticed. The Parisian gnocchi that came with it was outstanding! I've never had anything like it, definitely had a foodgasm. Finally, for dessert, we finished off with the dark chocolate and blueberry torte. Yummy! It was light and fluffy and so chocolatey! Definitely not as heavy and dense as most tortes that I've had. The food and service, definitely 5/5 stars! But once the restaurant started filling up and getting crowded, it became so ridiculously loud in there! I couldn't hear my friend at all, we were basically shouting at one another. I'm not sure if it was just the groups who were seated around us, but it started to become a little unbearable at how much noise was erupting. Luckily we were pretty much done, so we payed and high tailed it out of there. Over all, great place with great food. Definitely worth a try. May need ear plugs :p.

A cute community bistro with artisan flair. I visited for an early Saturday dinner. The hostess greeted us with an iPad in hand. Unfortunately, Open Table "misplaced" our reservation, but they were accommodating and said they could fit us in right away. While romantic and simplistic in design, this space is just not very large. You can feel the draft from people entering and leaving from the table. I was disappointed in the table they chose for us, however it was understandable considering our lost reservation. But just fyi reservations sound like a usual must around here. The food: Seafood is definitely their specialty. And their art. Presentation is top notch, if not probably the best aspect of the restaurant. We started with the sake poached octopus appetizer. Quality over quantity here for sure...you can see from the picture that they gave very little octopus meat with some bok choy. While excellently prepared, it was a bit ridiculous. Main entrees: the Alaskan Weathervane scallops are extremely tasty! I'm not sure if they were the best scallops I've had, but they come close. For $30 you are paying for those six little buggers they give you. Split them in half and chew slowly... :). I really enjoyed the kale salad and latke that accompanied them. It's not exactly a combo I would have thought of but it was beautifully arranged. Hence, the "artisan" flair of this place. Other dishes ordered at the table included the Oregon venison (meat is tender and very flavorful like a brisket), the reel and rod salmon (smoked like it just came off the barbecue) and the bacon-coated chicken (most value for your $$). A few other options adorn their menu. Overall, it's a pretty short menu. Dessert: there are two desserts offered currently: a goat milk cheesecake and dark chocolate financier(whatever this means beats me). We ordered the cheesecake. Warning: if you do not like goat cheese you should steer clear of this dessert. Service: Accommodating but not necessarily extremely friendly or memorable. I thought the hostess spent just as much time and effort as our waiter did in attending to our party. Consensus: a nice spot for locals, but not worth the long trip if you live on the other side of the water. If the low lighting, clean lines, and artisan seafood sounds good to you then you should visit, otherwise I find the hype a bit overrated.

Hidden gem in Magnolia. Every dish I've ever tried here has been on point. Love the seared scallops, cooked to perfection every time. Always love seeing the chefs prepare my food. Perfect for date night with Bae. Expensive so you probably don't want to take your side chick/man there.

Delicious, perfect dinner. Went to Tanglewood Supreme while visiting Seattle. It was my sister's birthday and we'd had a disappointing meal the evening before, so had fairly low expectations. We were blown away! We had a bottle of wine and the Diablo de Mayo cocktail. I had oysters as an appetizer, my sister had the salmon, and my mom and I shared the scallops and prawns. The restaurant owner was so friendly and all the servers were kind. They even comped a dessert (a delicious chocolate and blueberry brownie cake with ice cream) for my sister's birthday. If I lived in Seattle, I would take people here all the time.

If you're not from the area (and we weren't), Tanglewood is a bit hidden, with the entrance on a small side road in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. Once you step inside what looks to be an unassuming entrance, you find yourself in what feels like it used to be a nice workspace of some kind - a chef's preparation and seating area further in, with metallic-looking tables and chairs populating the rest of the restaurant and old-school incandescent bulbs giving some nice faint lighting to the overall space. Seating was a cinch (plenty of seating on a Friday evening), and our waiters and servers were really nice folks who got us our drinks quickly and were able to accommodate some variation on the vegetarian tasting menu. The drinks here, particularly the cocktails, are delicious - highly recommend ordering one (or more, depending on your predilections). I'd say the focus is more on the combination of flavors as opposed to highlighting the underlying liquor(s), but as someone who prefers that, I thought these worked really well. The Peachy Keen was probably my favorite (a nice mix of fruits and mint), but I also liked the Diablo de Mayo, which packed a bit of spice and tartness from the key lime soda. With some local beers on hand as well, you'll be in good hands staying hydrated for your meal. We all did the tasting menu in the end, figuring that $50 for a 4-course tasting was a pretty reasonable deal. We started with a shigoku oyster, which just reminded me how much I love West Coast oysters, particularly when you're on the West Coast (definitely tasted fresher). Next up was the apricot salad, which had a very pleasant black truffle vinaigrette which gave it a very aromatic, distinct flavor. I also liked the hazelnuts, which gave it a bit of crunch. The second course was the albacore crudo, which was caught that morning and had a nice, firm texture and was paired with a slightly spiced sauce as a nice complement. Our mains for the tasting course were both seafood, which I didn't mind (when in Rome, etc.); we started out with the seared scallops, which had a nice crisp on the outside but were a tad rubbery to the bite. Next was the wild king salmon, which was well-executed - firmer on the outside but medium-rare on the interior of the filet, served on a bed of vegetables. It's not the most memorable cut of salmon I've had here, but it was still quite delicious. In all, this was a nice, cozy place to have dinner on a Saturday night. Friendly staff, a leisurely eating pace, and a delicious homespun menu made this a very enjoyable experience overall. It's a bit out of the way relative to downtown Seattle (where we were staying), but it was nice to visit a different part of the city and enjoy an unpretentious meal at a great price.

So good, I want to come in again! My friend and I came to Tanglewood Supreme after hearing highly rated reviews from Yelp Elites and actually agree with all the great reviews! We had the 7 course tasting menu and enjoyed every bite! The service was great! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. But the star of the meal definitely was the food, there were some dishes that we loved and some that we thought was just okay. I would highly recommend the scallop ceviche, brusell sprout salad, and goat cheese cheesecake! I'm literally salivating thinking about those 3 dishes as I write this review. ;)

Wow! This is such a great addition to the village ! My husband and I have been twice. Once for lunch and again for dinner (not on the same day, of course). Both times were amazing. The food, service, ambiance and music are perfect and it's always a bonus when you can have a chat with the owner. Now I know where Tanglewood Supreme comes from! :) I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it too. Yum!

Excellent. Based just on the one experience, the best restaurant in Magnolia. My wife and I came in tonight because the wait at Ray's Café was going to be somewhere near 90 minutes. I'd wanted to try this place since it opened, so in we went. We lucked out that a party of eight had just left much earlier than the restaurant had expected (they tend to linger), so were seated without a reservation. The Asian pear, quinoa, and Brussel sprout salad was excellent, and the rosemary in the olive oil with balsamic vinegar gave the bread a nice twist. My wife had the Tanglewood stew (basically mussels, clams, some potato, and some veggies in a broth), which was good, if not spectacular. I had the salmon with mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and fiddlehead ferns, which was great. The fish and the mushrooms were especially good. I've had better fiddlehead (I'm Korean), but as it was it was a nice garnish. Good molten chocolate cake for dessert, too. Service was friendly, and prices were excellent for the quality. We'll be going back.

Loved this new Magnolia restaurant: warm, creative blending of earth-sustainable ingredients. Our only negative was that the Thai risotto nearly burned my mouth off! There was no warning in the menu or from the server that there would be super hot red chili flakes shaken all over what was otherwise a great risotto. I thought I would die for 10 minutes as the fire in my mouth burned. Eventually subsided, and server offered to have kitchen make another, sans hot chili flakes. She said someone else that evening had complained of the same thing: why didn't they take note and warn the kitchen? But otherwise it was great and we will definitely go back. I'll just ask how hot and spicy seeing the menu doesn't tell you.

Love, love, love it! A hidden gem in Magnolia - I would have never known of it if it wasn't for a friend who lives near by. I had Roasted Beet Salad and Gnocchi Ricotta for lunch and was in haven. And for $14.00 - I simply cannot believe it! The waiter was super nice and the interior is exactly what I like: simple northwestern contemporary style with reclaimed wood, and gray concrete, some industrial elements, and cloth napkins even for lunch! Very cool. I will definitely be going back for more, perhaps even tomorrow :)

What a great addition to the Seattle dining scene! For my birthday i wanted to find an outstanding seafood restaurant. Based on Yelp reviews, I chose this one and I'm so glad I did. We asked to be seated next to the kitchen so we could watch the food being prepared and we thoroughly enjoyed that. We each ordered a different salad: baby lettuces with peaches and spiced pecans, and quinoa with heirloom tomatoes (without the cheese). Both were inventive and delicious For entrees, my partner ordered the cedar paper-smoked salmon, which was really interesting to watch being prepared, and i ordered the sea scallops. Our meals were amazingly good and it was really fun watching them being prepared. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is top notch. Almost as good as the food is watching the extremely talented chef do all the cooking himself. He doesn't pause or rest for a second; he is a show by himself. We have a lot of respect for him after watching him in action. We knew before we went that we would not be getting dessert because we didn't care for either of the two items they offered. The one thing they could improve is to have a larger or different choice of desserts, including something that isn't as strange as thai basil ice cream with chocolate cake. Since we were prepared for that and had dessert at home, it wasn't a problem, but it would have been nice to have dessert there. Overall, it was a special experience befitting a special occasion and a very memorable evening that leaves us wanting to go back soon, despite being quite a distance from where we live.

This place is great! The food was amazing and the service was great. The seven course tasting menu is an incredible deal at $45. My husband and I went here for my 35th birthday and for our first date night after having a baby and we really wanted something special. We weren't disappointed! My only suggestion for them is that they install some nice, high-quality blinds on the windows. The view of the alley is really ugly and detracts from the classy, elegant atmosphere in the restaurant. There is nothing appealing about looking at dumpsters! Other than that, we loved it and will go back.

Hoping for good luck for them. Fresh and quality ingredients. I got the smoked salmon sandwich for lunch today, which was full of flavor. $11 for a gourmet sandwich (didn't come with any sides or anything, which would have been nice). I would have liked the bread to be warm or a little toasted, but oh well. It was fresh and soft. Maybe a different tomato (like romas, as has more flavor). A bit heavy on mustard. overall quite good, and Im excited to try more. Today had a large lunch rush, which made waiting for to-go about 20 minutes. Owner Kent and server Todd were really nice and apologetic for it being so busy. They ran out of soup. It was kind of weird to see the chef cut off the raw fish by pulling part out of the container and slicing into it while holding it up, rather than cutting on the board...but I'm not a chef. The restaurant is in it's infancy (lunch being 2 weeks old), so not too worried, I'm sure they will sort it out.

5 of us went to Tanglewood for dinner tonight and we were all blown away by the cuisine. The quinoa/persimmon salad was great, as was the salmon tartare. Others raved about the seafood stew. While most had the tender scallops for a main course, I had Thai risotto, which was just spicy enough without being hot. The salmon was great, too, (guess you can tell we traded tastes around the table). I agree with last reviewer that the portions must have grown, as there was plenty of food. The chef was previously at Brasa and each plate is a work of art. The proprietor is a fun guy. We all agreed we'll be back. PS - I almost forgot the cheesecake and chocolate lava cake!

Really really nice evening. Small restaurant in an area nobody would look for one. We asked to be seated at the counter to watch the 2 cooks. ordered the 7 course tasting menu for $45. It was worth it! Small plates (as usual with so many courses) got better and better as we went. Waiters were really nice. In the end the cooks asked us if we wanted chocolate cake or cheesecake for desert. I asked if we could have one of each and they said no. But then they did serve both. Really nice. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We had the salmon, pumpkin ravioli, and some sort of risotto cake appetizer. All was delicious! This place is a bit hidden, but worth the find. The happy hour looks amazing--the menu was accidentally left on the table and it had some items not available on the dinner menu. Planning a girls happy hour visit soon--can't wait to try it.

A restaurant striving for haute cuisine in Magnolia - hooray! A place for date night as good or better than Szmania - hip hip hooray! The owner is a first-time restauranteur, but he's hired a good chef, so the place is off to a roaring start. The PRO's: cocktails and wines by the glass are a reasonable deal. We had the Raw Ahi appetizer, which was delicious. The scallop entree included tiny japanese eggplant and a touch of curry in the sauce - yum! The Happy Hour menu looked good, but it lasts only one hour 5-6pm, and we were too late. Another time! Now the CON's: If we're paying in the mid-$20 for entrees, could we please get more than 3 scallops? I swear, only 3. My husband got the Hawaiian Blue Shrimp entree, which had all of 5 normal-sized shrimp. True, the scallops had a pile of japanese eggplant, but that seemed like padding with only 3 scallops. The shrimp dish had a fiery hot polenta and nicely seasoned kale. But really, 5 small shrimp? Even with an appetizer and bread and drinks, we had room for another entree. The decor has not been changed since it was the spartan Wheeler Street Kitchen. I'm sure the owner would rather spend his $ on employees and food. Good reasoning. But perhaps in the future, nicer chairs, maybe tablecloths, candles, and just a couple stylish wall accents would add a TON of ambiance. We would love to see Tanglewood succeed. The neighborhood would very definitely support a foodie restaurant. Just a few minor tweaks and it'll be there!

I really, really wanted to like this place, given the fact I live in Magnolia. It would be convenient to have a great restaurant nearby. But as is the case with most other Magnolia restaurants, this establishment falls short. Scallops with pearl pasta and eggplant was bland. An adjustment of the seasonings would improve the dish. The arancini appetizer with ricotta and kale was overcooked and, bland. My wife's oysters were excellent. Service is good and it's entertaining to sit across from the Chef, watching as he prepares the food. We'll go back and try another menu item.

Fabulous Food, Great service, and easy parking. Wine list could use a little lift but other than that absolutely perfect

This new spot in Magnolia gets 5 stars for flavor and 2 stars for portions. The food is prepared well and very good, but unfortunately our party of 4 left the restaurant hungry. We had the salmon, chicken, seafood stew and hanger steak ,The portions are very small - more like "small plates" and don't really meet the expectations of an "entree". We hope the ownership considers maybe charging a little more and increasing the portions because it really was delicious.

We were very excited to go there, had heard all of the great reviews, and decided to visit last Sat. night. It's located in an alley with a cool sign, so we thought that was cool. However, things went downhill when we sat down and they told us that 3 of 5 menu items were out (and it's a small menu!). This was after we had already opened up a bottle of wine. What were we to do? The table of 3 next to us walked out we noticed. OK, we go ahead and order, and the waiter brings our starter and soup at the same time, saying "they came out at the same time." WHAT? It's soup! Let it sit for few moments before you bring it out. Our waiter seemed very inexperienced and clueless. The actual environment is sort of disappointing, too--thin plywood tables although the kitchen area and back bar look nice. The final straw was the overcooked sturgeon they brought me (they were out of the ling cod). It tasted like a piece of frozen fish they had taken out of the back shelf of the freezer! When I told the waiter it wasn't very good, he asked if I wanted anything else, and I wanted to say "I ordered this because you were OUT of everything else!" It's too bad, because the soup and starter were delicious, but overall we couldn't wait to get out of there.

This place is a great addition to Magnolia. The food was really fantastic and fresh. The prices are modest to me, as are the portions. I'm fine with this because you don't leave feeling stuffed. You have great quality over quantity. They could add a little more to each plate and charge more and that would be perfect. I'm definitely going back!
