I like places that are what they are. This is just a neighborhood bar. They serve tacos and burritos (which were tasty). The drinks were well poured and the crowd was amiable. The prices were reasonable and the staff was quick and friendly. Sold.

I'd had several good experiences here in the past. It's the closest bar to my apartment so I'd somewhat frequently stop in and have normal to friendly service from the bartenders. It wasn't my favorite bar, but I had no complaints. However. A few friends and I stopped in this past Friday night (1/7) to get a beer. We had obviously pissed this grouchy dude in a beanie off just by being there, though it is truly beyond me what we could have done wrong. We were sitting at a table, conversing amongst ourselves, not being loud or anything. Said angry dude comes over and snatches some of our glasses away, drops and breaks one, gets REALLY pissed at us for that (?) and then proceeds to say to us, "Okay, pound your beers and go." WHAT!? Are you for real? Yeah they were closing up soon, but the bar was still FULL of people and we would gladly have quietly finished our beers in the minute or two it would have taken and headed out. Apparently this was unacceptable, as when I asked if we could have a minute he replied, "No, I will either stand here and watch you finish your beer right now or i'll take it from you." None of the other patrons were getting this treatment, so I'll never know what this guy's problem with us was. None of us will ever be back to find out, though. So long, Summit Pub!

A cousin of mine recently moved into the neighborhood a few blocks from the bar and it is quite obvious to me now how he could possibly spend all afternoon at a bar. While labeled as more of a dive bar, the establishment resounded an atmosphere reminiscent of the old Cheers sitcom with a bit of that Seattle character sprinkled in. From the evident hipsters and hardcore cyclists to the grungy underground Seattleite, the bar was basically an open forum for everyone in the neighborhood. The bar is basically a reflection of what every neighborhood bar should aspire to be; a quaint meeting spot with respectable staff that draws a group of equally interesting and respectable patrons. With a few picnic tables outside with benches, the neighborhood provided a great backdrop for quiet conversation over a glasses of Dick's Pale Ale and even offered a few moments of interesting interruptions of joggers and impromptu conversation with neighborhood residents.

This is such a great neighborhood pub! They have a nice selection of beers on tab and show soccer games. Not really sure what else you could want in a pub. The staff is friendly and attentive but not annoying. My ONLY wish is that they would expand their food menu a little bit.

I love the location of this bar. I would have never known it was there. It reminds me san fran for some reason. They have a cute little patio area to sit at too. Katy's right, its a dive bar but it doesnt seem dirty. Definitely want to come back here.

The Summit Public House is a great neighborhood hangout. They've got an extensive selection of Northwest brews on tap. The atmosphere is casual and they have a pool table! Good beer, good people, good times.

We didn't try the food. Only the beer. My one very good friend said that the poor of Guinness was excellent! so i will have to go back and try it. As for the pitcher of Hoegaarden that my other friend and i shared...well, it was mighty delicious. And the fact that we went there at 10pm on Christmas day makes this joint a 5star establishment. Oh, and don't let me forget the fact that through this establishment I finally learned the origin of the term 'pub'. Because I thought it was 'Summit Pub House'. But when i got the receipt, it was 'Summit Public House'. and it dawned on me that 'pub' must have been derived from 'public'. never too late to learn something old.

Great neighborhood bar. Good drinks, good vibe.

I love the Summit. I have been a regular for the past two years and enjoyed all the folks I've met while hanging out there. The bartenders (Shane, Colt, and Saul) are all great. If I was running my own bar, I would poach all of them in a second. The beer selection is moderate in size, but of very good quality. They have a few regular taps: Manny's, PBR, etc., but everything else changes every week or two. The only reason I marked it 4 stars is because the owner who can definitely rub customers the wrong way. If you're ever looking for a brew in the neighborhood and want a fun place to hang out, drop by the Summit.

I've always just ended up here for various reasons never really a spot you set out to go, but always a fun time. We ened up going here since the sun liquor next door wouldn't even let us in for a drink because they were too full. There was a 20 min wait.... no thanks... I could settle for a hoegarden at summit instead. I prefer to sit at the bar but there are a few booths and seats around the pool table. Just your classic neighborhood dive bar.Pretty much what you see is what you get. It has a mix of people and isn't too crowded even on a Saturday night which is a plus for me. . Good cheap, chill dive bar with a pool table.

When I'm tired of trying to make eye-contact with a bartender at Redwood (which, these days, is all too often, and that's too bad because I live literally a minute's walk from the place), I head over to Summit. I LOVE this bar. First, the bartenders are my favorite on the Hill. Hands down. I have never, ever had a bad experience here. They are friendly, helpful, and considerate. I can't say enough about these dudes. Second, the place is never uncomfortably crowded or full of idiots. Which isn't to say it's empty - because it's not. that, either. Somehow, there are always enough people to make it feel like a great social spot, but never so many that you're always in someone's way. Third, they love soccer here, and it's a great spot to catch a game and meet some new people. The beer selection is varied and they don't mind giving recommendations. Not all that many food options, but the cactus salsa is really good and fresh. I adore this bar. Never change, Summit.

$4 for a delicious hotdog and a beer? Plus outdoor seating? Yes please!

    (4)
  • Shirley H.

Not that nice. A little sticky. Shitty bathrooms. Loud but laidback clientele. Great music. Great beer. Friendly bartenders. Basically, a place where you kick back and, four hours later, realize you've spent the whole night there. And without spending a lot of cash. This is what a neighborhood pub should be. If you feel like getting fancy, Sal makes a damned-tasty michelada. And sometimes they have roasted pigs and stuff.

  • Krystin T.

I liked it. Good beer, good atmosphere, and although I don't play pool, I know that's a plus for a lot of people. We just went for drinks, after reading reviews mentioning a lack of food - and it's true, at 10 pm someone asked for food & they were told the kitchen was closed (already!). We walked two steps next door to Toscana and grabbed some pizza, which was decent... just weird that the two establishments share a bathroom & I got briefly locked out of Toscana after using the "shared" bathrorom. :\ I guess Summit allows you to bring in food from Toscana, etc, which I think is nice, especially if they don't have food there. It's definitely a place I'll be checking out again. Good for just chilling out and having a beer with friends.

  • Adriana K.

Not too shabby for a local dive bar - a good selection of beers, and an oyster night??! Which left we curious what it would be like to have an oyster tasting at such an establishment. My friend used to live in the neighborhood and had her birthday party here, which accommodated well the steady stream of friends over a prolonged period. Nice place to get a beer without bumping into trendy pretty people at every turn.

    (3)
  • Andre B.

I really like Summit Public house for two reasons: 1) I can bring my dog and sit outside and drink and 2) the on tap selection. You always have to order at the counter. I don't think I have ever seen a wait staff around. When you order chips they are plentiful with a mild/medium salsa. The tv's are usually playing some sort of sports. I appreciated over the summer they ran the World Cup. I also like that in addition to a great selection of micro brews on tap they usually have a hard cider or pear cider on tap as well. All in all a pretty solid man's man type bar.

    (4)
  • Felecia C.

Oh, neighborhood bar, you make me happy. I am even happier that the lock on the bathroom was fixed. I know I'm not adding much here, but I just had to express my fondness for this place in a poorly-crafted Yelp review.

  • Joe H.

Great place to grab a pitcher and watch the game, shoot a game of pool or bs with some friends. Nothing super special as far as bars in Seattle go. Good beer, nice and quick bartenders. Seating is kind of awkward.

    (3)
  • Robert S.

I'm not gonna lie. I don't remember a bunch about this place. I had been drinking all day. This was the interim place before we headed out later in the night. I wanted to watch a little basketball and relax. I had some PBRs and watched the game, whatever. That's not important. The important thing is that the bar was playing Atmosphere's - You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having. Fucking amazing. What a great album to put on in a bar. This place fucking wins. I'm coming here again next time I'm in Seattle.

    (4)
  • Raquel D.

This bar is 2 blocks from my house, and it means I really never have to leave the neighborhood for a beer. It's no frills, just beer and liquor with a large tv. After the bartender played "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", I knew my love for them was well founded. This place is tucked away in the middle of a pocket of Capitol Hill, and that means the crowd is mostly people who live nearby. I've been coming here for four years, and though I may drink elsewhere, I'll keep coming back.

  • David M.

Where can you find yourself deep in conversation with a man who hunts undersea treasure? Where can you relax with a pint glass of fine microbrewed beer, recommended by an expert bartender? Where do people play pool and watch soccer non stop while the place is open? The Summit, that's where. It's a friendly, homey neighborhood place. My favourite place to unwind with my roommate when we want to talk about the coming zombie apocalypse, the falling standards of discourse in politics, or anything else. Fine on your own as well.

    (5)
  • Wesh W.

Good beer list. Good specials/happy hour. Plenty of TVs, and best of all: dog friendly! A neighborhood place without all the hipster bullshit & fancy-pants pretense.

    (4)
  • Thomas J.

A great place to chill with a cold brew, watch a game, eat a burrito, and bring your dog. Can't be beat. Friendly staff, cheap and good food.

    (4)
  • K M.

I really like this bar - it's super laid back and dive-y. I live on the same block and during the summer it was a great late night place to grab a beer and relax. There's always a good crowd (and never too crowded), no dirties or crazies (hey, it's Capitol Hill!). They had a happy hour during the Tour de France this summer and I went almost every day after work. The bartender doesn't have much to say, but he makes great drinks! There's outdoor seating, too - GREAT during the summer!

    (4)
  • Jon W.

Not all who wander are lost. I wandered and found this place. Small, dark, loud, and filled with people who seem to drink here very frequently. Lots of taps, which apparently rotate, some downhome mexi grub, and what else... Hhhhmmm... What's that? FREE F**KING POOL!!! Well touché bartender. Your surly demeanor is far more justifiable when sports better played drunk are offered at no fee! I had some new fangled porter, which was good. After 3 dicks danger ales and several games of gentleman's billiards I was fat and happy. I thought to myself- "I wonder if intravenous beer consumption will ever be socially acceptable."

    (4)
  • Elizabeth W.

Very cool bar! Helps that it's less than two blocks from my apartment. Great beer selection and good mixed drinks. I can never remember the name of this place, but that doesn't matter, I know where to find it! I love the fact that you can grab food from Toscana to bring in. People are friendly, and I don't feel like a freak if I go in alone. Summer seems to be the perfect time to visit. There are tables outside and most of the time, you'll find a couple of dogs to pet. Thanks Summit Public House...one of these days I'll remember your name. :-)

  • Nic W.

My friend's dog got drunk at Summit. The dog is very small and snuck a snip off of my long island. 10 minutes later, he tried to lift his leg to pee and fell over, peeing all over himself. That's what Summit is all about: strong drinks, welcoming atmosphere, and (every so often) inebriated animals.

    (5)
  • Kat F.

I came here for the first time on a first date. Had it been a bad first date, I'm sure I would have never looked back. But it wasn't, and I've been back many times since. The Summit is great. It's small, dark and quiet - the dark and quiet bit being things I prize highly in my bars. The bartenders are friendly and helpful, the pool is free, and while there isn't food, the pizza place next door will deliver to the bar for you and nobody will bat an eyelash. Added bonuses: dogs allowed and bathrooms are clean!!

    (4)
  • Becky G.

This place has a great neighborhood vibe. There's a little bit of everything. Some beautiful mosaic on the columns near the bar, a pool table. Indoor and out door seating and best of all great local beers on tap. Just a few blocks from my place, don't know why I don't stop in more often! I'd love to become a regular here. It's comfy.

    (4)
  • Ryn W.

This is the perfect neighborhood bar. Not only is the staff really friendly, but the patrons are, too. I've had quite a few fun nights of conversation with random people I've met here. The beer selection rotates, and there's a list of drink specials for the day/week/whatever, not really a "happy hour" to speak of. There's covered outdoor seating for the smokers, although even inside it's not usually too crowded that you have to stand. Free pool all day every day, which is nice, but only one pool table. Great vibe, small place. Good times.

    (5)
  • Jen P.

It was the last stop after a longggg night of drinking but I was pleased. Football on the TV.... cool bartender.... attentive. Good neighborhood bar. Can totally be a regular here.

    (4)
  • Amanda M.

Great laid-back neighborhood bar with cheap drinks, free pool, and good draft beer selection. The bartenders were friendly, service was fast, and we didn't have trouble getting a table inside on a Wednesday night, although it seemed like a pretty popular spot. There are a handful of outdoor patio tables but on a warm night these were a hot commodity. Nice place to know about if you're looking for a place to meet up for HH or late night drinks in Capitol Hill.

    (4)
  • Jason R.

Cool place, free pool. Swing by.

    (4)
  • Tori B.

Nice place- as mentioned before, though, we were thoroughly disappointed to find no food. But the bartenders were really nice, and I loved the extra large tables and outdoor seating (which is hard to find in our rainy city). Plus, we didn't get 86'd, even after obtaining blatantly belligerent drunk status Also, due to being a bit sick, I ordered a Hot Toddy, and, unlike a lot of other bars, they actually made it without the usual grumble grumble, which was refreshing.

  • Taylor S.

At first I thought the name of this bar was Top Pot because there is a giant neon purple sign right above the entrance that says TOP POT. Turns out thats just the donut shop next store. I admit it, I'm a bit slow. Anyways, I'm a big fan of this bar. Its hidden away from Broadway and Pike/Pine so the patrons are a group of people who know and appreciate a good dive bar. I absolutely love the layout. The booths are in the middle of the bar so people can get out on either side. For some reason this allows for a lot of random mingling between people which is cool. I actually was able to strike up a conversation with a stranger, and he didn't look annoyed or uncomfortable which is unheard of in Seattle.

    (4)
  • Dean R.

Great beer selection, but there were a bunch of Euro-wankers watching a replay of the Tour de France, and they wouldn't put the Mariners game on. These clowns were rivited to a replay! The Summit looks like a decent neighborhood bar with a good beer selection. They had a beer called the "lazy boy" that I had a couple of pulls off of that seemed to be my style, so I'll go back when it's not cycling season and probably end up liking this place.

    (3)
  • Kyle C.

I really love a good dive bar, and I love anywhere I can drink with my mutt, so this place is a no brainer. If I just lived closer to downtown I'd probably be here often.

    (4)
  • Natascha Z.

My new little dive bar. Awesome for watching sports with pub buddies. $5 Tuaca shots!

    (4)
  • Kiki M.

With my friend and dog in tow we went to Summit on a Friday night and there were plenty of seats available. How can you not love that? Also, they had a huge grill outside with a guy cooking up some hot dogs for the patrons. I'm not sure if that happens every night but apparently you've got more options on food than chips and salsa or bringing your own grub now.

    (4)
  • Raymond W.

I love me some SPH! It's a great place to go when I want to go out but don't want to "go out". It's also the kind of place that I don't feel weird about going to alone to have a beer and read a book on weeknight. Good stiff drinks, always friendly bartenders, and like KR W said, they have Spire Cider. A truly great Neighborhood Bar!

    (4)
  • Julie B.

Great local-bar feel in Capitol Hill. It's a good hangout for regular people (read: no hipper-than-thou crowd). Friendly bartenders, reasonable prices, indoor and outdoor seating and periodic barbeque events. This little place is a gem! Who knew?!

    (4)
  • Lauren S.

Cheap drinks, great bartenders, I just moved to the neighborhood and he remembers me already after only visiting a few times, it's my new local bar!!

    (4)
  • Ninja S.

Everyone here seemed really depressed and antisocial. Perhaps they're just more emotional and feeling the hurt of the world, but that was my impression. Perhaps if you have a skull on your shirt, skull on your purse, and a skull on your scarf on your head, you're not going to be into being bubbly and new friends. I'm sure you love your little dog though. Just stay away from the peanut butter. I didn't mean that kind of love. They had a lot of Hale's Ales on the chalkboard menu when I was here last. They have a full bar. They also have nowhere to sit. The free pool table is a nice touch if you can somehow play a game. Good luck with that. The booths looked like they were constructed by carnies on peyote. I've never seen anything quite like their severe angles and luxurious plank construction before. Perhaps that's what makes the people so uncomfortable. This is definitely one of those places that anything you order had better be poured from a keg or a bottle without much else. Leave the orders for shaken-not-stirred for the next place.. or better yet, the first place you didn't leave to come here.

    (3)
  • Bryan M.

No food! Yeah. The website lies too. Disappointing as I went here looking for drinks and dinner. I have friends that hang out here so every time I go it seems to be a good time. Nice outdoor seating in a quiet area that's still easy to get to from Broadway. I guess the pizza place next door that also has overpriced pasta will deliver to you in the bar as well.

    (4)
  • Cody L.

This is my neighborhood bar and i couldn't have asked for a better place. The staff are really nice and tend to know you by name. The beer and whiskey are good and there's free pool. Since they don't have much food to serve they will let you buy pizza from next door and bring it over to enjoy.

    (4)
  • Tyler H.

I'm not sure why I end up at the Summit sometimes. It could be that it reminds me of the bars I frequented back in Bellingham. It could be because, its is equal distance between my friends apartment and mine. Making it an easy meeting place. It could be because I meant to get a coffee and donut at Top Pot, got tired of walking 30 steps too early and just sort of veered into it. Regardless, its a complete adequate - if sometimes crowded - bar. Decent drink selection, free pool and all the standard. Plus they play soccer a lot on TV.

    (4)
  • Miss Kelly W.

Theyre open at 4 (right about the time I make it up to the hill when I'm off work), they have Spire Cider, and there's free pool. Nuff said.

    (4)
  • Liz H.

This is a solid neighborhood bar with a good rotating selection of beers, a low key clientele, and sports on the tvs. I expect and desire no more and no less.

    (3)
  • Esteban D.

My friend bartends here on Friday nights, and because of that, I came here on election day. I'm not the most patriotic person, but I certainly felt like an american when I came here and was given barbecue pork sandwiches for free from an election day barbecue that was installed out front for the special occasion. I live nowhere near here, and don't go to bars often, but I certainly do like the cats that work here. You may feel the same way.

    (4)
  • Brian R.

This place is a great local neighborhood pub. It has a very casual and authentic vibe about it! The staff is genuinely friendly! The Patio is great for having a pint with your mates on a warm Seattle day!

    (5)
  • Sean F.

This place is definitely a neighborhood bar, and a cool one at that. They have good local beers, good places to sit and good burritos. The first time I went here the bartender was really sarcastic in a dick way, but I just brushed it off and he warmed up really quick. Every time I go back he has been nice. The other bartender is really friendly. You can play pool with a big group of friends or have an intimate date with someone at a table for two. Cool outdoor sections. Overall a really fun place to hangout.

    (4)
  • Alisha O.

Summit pub is a true "public house" - a casual, neighborhood place to grab some beers, watch a game, catch up with friends. It's not a pub in the decorated like an English-pub sense. It's just an actual pub. Really great beer selection, some mixed drink specials, pretty decent food with random surprise events like paella (which they always manage to do while I'm out of town, and tease me with on Facebook). Great place to watch football matches (soccer that is) -- really great crowd, but it is a crowd. Come early, and be prepared to stand. Regardless of how busy it is, I've always had to order at the bar. I don't think there are servers.

    (4)
  • Janine L.

Omg this place has yummy fresh burritos, guac, tacos. Perfect neighborhood bar w/ a good selection local microbrews. Our bartender was nice, asked about our evening and answered our annoying questions about tequila. Think his name was Brent or Brett. Pool table looked fun, but packed. Definitely going to be a regular here.

    (5)
  • Toni M.

The drink selections change quite frequently, so there's usually something new for me to try. They also make their own burritos, tacos, and guacamole, which is all delicious. The kitchen closes at 10, but they don't care if you bring in something from the pizza place next door. Awesome neighborhood bar!

    (5)
  • Jenny D.

They have great cheap tacos made from scratch here. .. they also still allow leashed dogs which is awesome in my book.

    (5)
  • Roxanne W.

Really love to grab drinks and little eats here. The menu isn't huge, but what is on it is good. Love that they do specials and have a really nice variety of taps. There is a pool table, but if you want to get in on that you better show up at 4 o'clock when they open.

    (4)
  • Josh S.

LOVE this place. The perfect little neighborhood escape from reality. Not the biggest, baddest bar on the block, but it's my favorite for a number of reasons. Drink prices are great, and if you catch the 4-6 happy hour they're even better. Good selection of brews and equally as good on the hard stuff. The Mexican flavored menu was a great surprise, and the Pico De Gallo has always been super fresh and delicious. I still have yet to try their burritos, but I hear they're great! Bartenders are really friendly, and the atmosphere is very laid back. Oh, did I mention free pool?! Get there early if you want the table.

    (5)
  • Montie M.

Decent neighbourhoody joint. I constantly forget exactly where it is. Kind of tucked away on a darker street. Nice and dark with a decent tap selection. Bartender tonight was pretty unengaged and kept asking what the name on the tab was despite the fact that there were only 5 people total in there. Everyone has an off night. no real complaints. Will return.

    (3)
  • Nellie H.

We had a good time here on a Saturday night. The bar tender was attentive when we needed him to be, and the food was wonderful. (Make sure to check out the chips and salsa, the homemade salsa was amazeballs!) I could see this being an amazing neighborhood bar, but if you're going into Seattle - trying to find parking was a nightmare.

    (3)
  • George T.

Can't say enough great about this place. One of the last neighborhood bars left on the Hill. A great place to chill with friends.

    (5)
  • Pete F.

Many, many times I have successfully quaffed beers in this joint. One day I arrived and I asked the bartender to turn one of the TV's to a USMNT soccer match and he told me that SPH was "a Mariner's bar" and that I had to wait until the (inconsequential) beisbol game ended to see a match with consequence. Thumbs down on that day. Despite SPH's greatness, I have never forgiven that place for their stubborn refusal on that day. I still drink there but it grinds on me.

    (3)
  • Jim D.

A great neighborhood bar, lousy parking. The burritos were awesome, chips/salsa too! Fantastic beer selection. We met some friends up and had a grand old time. Much more chill atmosphere than I usually find at The Lookout, so I'd probably check this out if you're choosing between the two

    (4)
  • Michael C.

This is exactly what a neighborhood pub should be. Good stiff drinks and friendly patrons made for a fun night of shooting pool and shooting the breeze. I will be back the next time I venture this way.

    (4)
  • Anna W.

And if you're an idiot who thinks they forgot their bag at Summit Pub last night and call them in a frenzied panic while they're closed, they WILL actually call you back. It actually turned out that I'd hidden my bag in my house in some kind of devious drunken stupor, but I appreciate the knowledge that if I do ever leave valuables here, the staff will at least try to help find them.

    (5)
  • Morgan R.

The friendliest bartender I've yet to meet on the Hill, so close to the lovely folks at Redwood, but willing to engage in some pleasant conversation. I miss that kind of stranger sociality around here, so I'll be back soon for cheap drinks and warm vibes.

    (5)
  • Kenre E.

In a city full of rude, pretentious hipster folk, this place is the opposite of that. Strolled in here around 1 AM a few months back and was actually taken back by the bartender who was more than willing to engage in friendly conversation. Definitely had a neighborhood bar vibe with a warm atmosphere. As far as bars on the hill are concerned, the Summit and Redwood are the places where I dont feel like I need to put on a guise of hipster douchebaggery. Two thumbs up from this dood!

    (4)
  • Lauren B.

Whatever, it's a bar. I thought it was too pricey ($5 well whiskey sour, which was not great, and $7.50 margaritas and bloody Marys). The margarita was gross (to me, I hate that sweet mix stuff), but the bloody Mary was tasty. Decent atmosphere. Would return if removed from the Pike/Pine corridor. For a great margarita, by the way, head over a few blocks to the Saint.

  • Elibe E.

I end up at Summit Public House every 3 weeks or so. It's hard not to, the place has great beers on tap and it has a grungy vibe to it that's somewhat relaxing to me. I have no issues with SPH, but I've noticed that: -Pool table get bogarted -Usually 90% dudes They shouldn't change at all, but on a weekend it be nice not to have to nudge folks to actually play pool instead of just chillin'

  • Nicholas H.

This small time bar is within walking distance of Broadway, but it seems miles away from the main thoroughfare with regard to its atmosphere. There aren't huge crowds here but it's a great place to go and watch international soccer matches as they have all of them on a DVR and seem like they just pick a new one at random one ends, and the booths are in the middle of the room, with smaller more personal tables lining the windows. The drinks are reasonably priced, and the bartender has no pretenses. Also, free pool. Can't go wrong with free pool. This is a true gem of a pub.

This is a great little spot for a few reasons. One, it's a bit of a dive without being dirty or full of jerks/old people. Two, it's next to Sun Liquor so if you can't get a seat there, this place always has tons more room. (And the drinks are cheaper!) Usually when I've been here I've liked the crowd of people hanging around. Everyone is nice, it's not too loud, but loud enough that you feel like you're in the company of other people trying to have a good time. If you're a fan of spots like the Redwood or the Twilight Exit, this place should also be on your list.

Went here to watch college football. Great neighborhood bar. Really friendly bartender. Just chill and nice. One recommendation. Expand the bar menu.

This is a good place, just what I like for most nights out. Low-key, beer, a dog (or four), a pool table, & hopefully a good game on.

Great neighborhood spot. The 7 seas British pale ale made my night. What a beer.

I used to live one block away from this place and this is still my favorite neighborhood bar in the Capitol Hill area. Buried in a residential area, this little dive bar gem is amazing! It's small, fun, comfortable, and has a great neighborhood feel to it. Now that I live further away from it, I still make a trip from time to time to grab a drink here with my husband. :) There are many beers on tap, good bartenders, great to chat with, prices are good, and they make some super tasty food! Try the burritos! They have booths and high tops you can sit at, a pool table, and several tv's if you want to watch any sporting events. It gets pretty packed on weekends, but if you come early or on a chiller evening, it's great! The pool table is even free! In the summer time, they often do BBQ's outside, so stop on by for some food, drinks, and fun!

Summit is one of my favourite neighborhood dive bar in all of Seattle. It's one of the best dog friendly dive bars I've seen in Seattle. Their drinks are strong yet cheap, the bar tenders are nice to you, the patrons are well behaved and easy to have a good chat with. They have a great collection of draft beers too which keeps changing so you get variety. Try some of their high alcohol content beers. The pool table is slightly smaller than the standard size but well maintained, the Ques are not bent and the regulars that play pool after 10 are very friendly. They have outdoor seating and you are even allowed to take your drink outside as long as you are within the seating area. You cannot smoke in the seating area though. The kitchen is open till 10 pm I think and they have good burritos and tacos. Their sause is amazing and has a very homemade taste to it too. Also try the chips and cactus dip if you can. It's amazing. Summit is also a sports friendly bar. They show live Soccer games and other sports. This is a good place if you missed a soccer game and want to watch the repeat telecast the next day or the highlights later in the night.

Love this dive! it's about a block from my apartment, which is good and bad :P Sometimes I can hear peeps gathering for various sports reasons, but I don't mind; means this neighborhood is alive! I'd recommend swinging by for some local brews - they have a decent list.

If the afternoon on a (finally) sunny Seattle Saturday were a slot machine, Summit Public House would be the jackpot you'd hit as the outdoor benches (with space for dogs), friendly bartender, and rotating Northwestern tap icons line up in a row....Cha-ching!

we were having an intense conversation sitting outside with some drinks on how Spongebob Squarepants is pretty deep (we can talk about this later) when across from us a group of three asked me n a friend what we thought about 'male solidarity'. PERFECT TIMING, bcuz i was not expecting to have a really interesting n open convo on 3rd wave feminism, future feminism, the government shutdown in relation to women/womyn, power dynamics, food stamps, etc at Summit Public House. srry Summit Public House for assuming u r very masculine n only attract heteronormative peoples. now i know people who teach feminist theory n intersectionality as well as their chill friends get buck with u!

This is one of my favorite Seattle neighborhood bars. Cute, simple, chill. Nice little outside area, and DOG FRIENDLY! I used to frequent this bar on a weekly basis when my boyfriend at the time lived just a block away, and we always had a great time here. They have 1 pool table (which we took full advantage of) and a great selection of beer.

very nice, knowledgeable staff, $5.50 jamesons, food options, mellow and laid-back atmosphere. down-to-earth place with down-to-earth patrons. solid spot.

This is most definitely a bar for the locals. Good place to meet people and see old friends like any local dive bar. Free pool and the best softball teams in the bar league.

Free pool and good beer on tap! Oh, they have outdoor seating too! No food to offer but there's a pizzeria next door that does the job after a slew of pints!

Fairly cool bar. Location is a good walk from main Cap Hill area, but sometimes is a nice break from the crowds that area absorbs some weekend nights. Bar has reasonable average priced drinks. Deep wooden booths. Good outside seating area. Good TV situation inside if you do sports watching.

I love this place and i don't even live in the neighborhood. Great beer selection, great pizza next door that you can have delivered to the pub.It takes awhile but who cares for your drinking beer? Yet I digress... Stopped in here one day after a long bicycle ride and they were actually showing not baseball, not football, not some obscure college game but tour de france! This place is the best!

Is this EVERYBODY'S second choice bar? I mean don't get me wrong, I like it, but it seems like everyone only comes here when their main bar is too crowded or they want to avoid someone. It would have received four stars if they ditched that European sports bullshit.

The beer prices are a bit high for what you're getting, but the selection is usually good and the bartenders are great. I'm also willing to pay a little extra to keep a nice, neighborhoody pub in business.

i love the summit. the only reason i would ever hesitate to give it a full 5 stars? their beer prices. other than that, though - free pool, awesome bartenders, they allow dogs, outside seating (though recently, they've been forced to have people smoke outside of the gate - stupid neighbors), several TVs if you wanna watch sports, bicycling, etc., the occasional free bbq (the next one is on election day - GOBAMA), and consistently good music.

I was early meeting folks at Sun Liquor. While I generally avoid being a single gal in any pub, I walked in, sat at the bar, and Shane immediately took good care of me. We talked baseball, and he recommended a spot on schwarzbier. As another reviewer mentioned, it's a bit of a dive but not peppered with drunk jerks. I was sad to leave [super happy I didn't have to move from my hardwon parking spot!] but look forward to coming back.

The Summit is the quintessential neighborhood joint. It's awkwardly located in the middle of a very residential neighborhood with terrible parking so you'll find nothing but locals here. The pool table is free. The bathrooms are clean! There are a couple dozen beers on tap. They serve a modest and decent menu and they let the pizza place next door deliver to your table. The only almost-negative thing I can say for this bar is that it's tiny but that really just adds to the cozy neighborhood feel. Bonus points for the outdoor picnic tables.

here's the thing about fancy craft cocktail bartenders: when asked their favourite drink/watering hole, more often than not their reply involves some dive-as-fuck bar and a shot of whiskey with a beer back. the same can be said of chefs and their favourite food; essentially it boils down to the fact that when you do something all day, the last thing you want when you punch out is something complicated. simplicity and function win almost every time, and this is how i came upon the summit public house. by recommendation of david nelson, he warned me multiple times that his preference was not my "type of place" but like a small child told not to do something, i immediately added it to the cocktail thursday list. located on the same block as sun liquor, the summit public house is everything that my typical "type of place" isn't: bartenders in t-shirts, [insert sport here] on the tele, that distinct smell of bleach cleanser and wet wood so customary of dives...this is not a place where you'd order a drink with any more than two ingredients. but where david went wrong is this: i refuse to be boxed into a single paradigm. and while i may not be defying gravity, i do find that everything isn't black and white or either or; take the summit's power outlet situation for example. while it may be on the ceiling and unpractical for modern applications, a fellow patron was able to make it work and charge her dangling iphone while watching stage 12 of le tour de france. austerity can indeed lend itself to multiplicity, so maybe there's hope for me and my "type of place" after all.

Looking for a cool but unpretentious neighborhood pub with a very good beer selection, reasonable prices and a laid-back crowd? Look no further. And if you get hungry, be sure to try the pizzeria next door--they'll deliver to the pub! A perfect union.

This little off-the-beaten-path place has a lot going for it. First, there's an outside drinking area so it's great in the summer. But my favorite things are the rotating beers and the free billiards. For beer, there's approximately 20 taps. My current favorite tap is Grimbergen abbey, a golden abbey ale with a great subtle sweetness that's great after a big meal. And a couple months ago, my favorite beer was a local black ale similar to Death and Taxes (sorry, forgot the name!). They keep rotating the beers, though, and with any luck, a couple months from now I'll have a new favorite!

Love this place, and love even more that you can order Toscana pizza from next door and they'll deliver to the pub. Great beer list, fantastic bartenders, best neighborhood. and a great place to watch Sounders away games.

It's kind of silly to go to a neighborhood bar when you don't live in the neighborhood, but I guess when half your friends do why not? Cheap strong drinks, free pool, and friendly patrons.

this is your average bar. dark, loud, sometimes crowded, nothing special. great beer selection though - and decent prices. clean bathrooms too, if that's what you're looking for in a bar. they have free pool as well. this place seems much more laid back than other places on capitol hill. i felt completely comfortable popping in in jeans, a t-shirt and flip flops for a spur-of-the-moment drink with friends, whereas some other places on broadway, i would have felt way underdressed.
