I was hopeful for this restaurant, considering Madrona is thin on Thai spots and Asian cuisine in general. Unfortunately, the service was subpar, menu overpriced and the food arrived short of expectations as my "divine beef" was shown to include carrots but arrived w/o them. :(

I understand the desire to fancify the traditional Thai hole-in-the-wall that Seattle is actually pretty good at, unfortunately this place falls short. I had such high hopes given the fabulous decor complete with modern daybeds, alas, I was crushed like Icarus falling from the Sun. Perhaps there is hope for the place, since other reviewers pointed out the service as being lackluster and it seems to have improved considerably in that department. No forgotten items, decently prompt order taking, & arrival of drinks in a timely fashion were all pros. When our food arrived, however, it was all at the very same moment despite the fact that we had three starters and three mains for three people. Try fitting that many plates on one tiny little table- no small task. We attempted to eat the appetizers first, so our main's got cold, but I don't think there would have been any salvaging flavor from any of it save the Tom Ka Gai- only thing I tried worth ordering, but then, how can you really screw up coconut milk lemongrass soup? Everything else was sub-par even to the little take-out joints that are half the price- steer clear of the panang, the swimming rama (or whatever they call their spinach peanut sauce dish) and the larb fo sho! I actually feel bad writing a two star review, in college I always gave full star professor evaluations even if I had a problem with the teacher, I'm just that much of a softie. It was all I could muster for this place, though, so it must be pretty bad. You're welcome to check out additional reviews of places about town on my website: saltyseattle.com .

We thought the food was good (although two stars was NOT at all spicy). We particularly liked the chicken with spinach. This place will soon be packed so consider takeout.

I really loved this place for lunch - can't wait to try for dinner. Location is cursed - I hope these guys break it.

I tried Naam for lunch, when the Thai place my office frequents was closed. I did a large takeout order for the office, and the waitress was very friendly, patient, accommodating and paid close attention to the details of the order. I loved the ambiance & decor. I had to take off a couple of stars for my entree, the green curry. It was on the bland side and has an odd taste that I don't personally appreciate. I would definitely be willing to come back to give it another try because all my co-workers loved their dishes & I loved the combo that came with the lunch (very tasty pad thai).

My husband and I recently moved to Madrona and wanted to check out Naam Thai Cuisine. Being a frequent obsessive patron of Thai Tom in the U District, I don't think I'll ever be able to reserve 5 stars for any Thai Restaurant in Seattle. How about 4 stars? Not quite. The service was subpar and very frustrating. The servers only had a few tables, but seemed to be in the weeds. The food was decent, but nothing to rave about. The prices were okay and the portions were large. I might come back, but I'd rather just call and order take out than to endure bad service.

Great food at a reasonable price. Family friendly and great atmosphere.

I have to echo Jeff G here. The food was good, and the decor is tasteful, but the service was terrible. Granted we were a party of 6, which can sometimes throw a wrench into a small operation, but c'mon: nearly an hour elapsed from the time we sat down until our first bottle of wine showed up. And this was after walking over to the bar twice to remind them that we were still waiting. And they seemed to have plenty of staff on hand, just not executing their jobs very well. Don't think I'd go back after such an experience.

I got takeout and ordered Phad Kee Mao, Phad Thai, and Cashew Nut Chicken. The Phad Kee Mao was really not very good. The Cashew Nut Chicken was mediocre. The Phad Thai was quite good. I would go there again because of the location but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't live in the neighborhood.

Some friends and I are visiting from out of town and Naam was the first restaurant we ate at when we arrived. It was completely empty when the entire time we were there, so we definitely had fast service. I ordered the Tom Talay, which I always order when I eat Thai, and the Spicy Noodles. Both were incredibly delicious and heartier than I had expected. There was tons of seafood in the Tom Talay, and the Spicy Noodle had the most amazing wide noodles and tofu. Plus the sauce was mouth-watering. I asked for super spicy and it was mediocre, but I'm a spicy food nut and my taste buds are used to being on fire. I loved the decor inside as well. Super cute and modern!

Yay - a Thai restaurant in Madrona! Took my spice-averse 7 year old, so I can't comment on the spiciness factor, but loved the food. We particularly enjoyed the country style phad thai, which uses tamarind instead of a tomato-based sauce. Noodles were chewy, not mushy and the dish was delicious, even without the heat. We had no problems with service, though the restaurant was not very full when we were there. I have a feeling this we will become frequent flyers.

I went with a group of four of us. We all really loved the cushy pillow sitting area, and most of the food was pretty good. But the service was really bad. I asked for an orange juice, and after fifteen minutes and everyone else having almost finished their drinks, we asked again where my orange juice was. The waitress quickly replied with "I guess they're too busy to make it". I had also ordered the Tom Ka soup and asked for a side of rice. The rice never came and we tried multiples times to flag her down (once while she was delivering two sides of rice to another table!) and she never came over to even ask how everything was! Needless to say I never received my rice and I am very disgusted with the way we were treated. Outside of taking our orders and delivering our drinks and food, we received no other attention from our waitress, and were even blatantly ignored!! Overall the food was pretty decent, but with so many other thai restaurants in Seattle, I won't be visiting this place again.

Naam is delicious. My favorite dishes are the Crab Ragoon and the curry fried rice. The Curry fried rice is unlike anything I have ever had. The flavor is perfect, a nutty sweet savory. Decor is also something special.

I love this place!!! Great food and service. My favorites are the Wonton Soup, Crispy Coconut Shrimp (to die for) and the Chicken Pad Thai. Order what you like, choose your favorite noodle and add chicken, pork, beef or tofu. Choose your heat level as well. It's all made fresh to order.

This was the third closest eatery by the glassybaby location my friends and I were glassmaking at the other night. Even with meh reviews, we all managed to agree on Thai and that most people don't mess up Thai food, right? It has very modern, chic decor. Taupe walls and dark woods. Lamps and not many bright overhead lights. We went around 8, so not too many people were there but there were several seated parties enjoying their food. After waiting for several minutes (some actually taken up by someone ahead of us), we decided to lounge on one of their large, round daybeds for our meal. The daybed was pretty cool but we kinda sank so we sat on the decor pillows for more support. Shoes off, if you please. The food was pretty yummy. We ordered the country-style pad thai, panaang curry, and pad see ew. I've never heard of a country-style pad thai before; apparently, they use thinner noodles and a tamarind sauce instead of a tomato-based one. It seemed lighter than your typical pad thai and was pretty tasty. I liked the thinner noodles. The curry was good, a little sweet from the coconut milk. My friend liked her pad see ew. However, rice was a side. Which is weird, because curry. How else do you eat a curry?! So, annoying. Also, their star-rating for spiciness seems off. My sister ordered a one star for her curry and it was spicier than my 2-star pad thai. Service is what dropped it from a 4-star review to a 3-star review. The service is slooow. Even when there weren't that many patrons, there wasn't a server to be found. We saw lots of people get takeout, which kinda indicated that while the food is good, people probably didn't wanna deal with the staff. Also, they forgot my friend's peanut sauce for her pad see ew and we had to wait for someone to come along so we could stop them and ask. Our server didn't come check on us until about 2/3rds through our meal. Then he came by again five minutes after that asking if the spice was alright. WHAT IF IT WASN'T?! Not spicy enough is doable- you can still eat it. Too spicy? Can't eat that. Wouldn't go out of our way to eat it. If we were in the area again, we'd probably try somewhere else. But the food is good, if you're in the mood for Thai. Just, takeout.

I have eaten in the restaurant and it is never difficult to get a table. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to dietary preferences and certainly about the heat!! Plenty of window seating if you want to watch the pedestrians on a sunny day. Some of our favorites - crab rangoon, spring rolls, crab fried rice, and the pad thai is pretty straight forward. Take out is just as easy, call ahead and they will have it ready for you! Parking is not great - heck it's Madrona!

How I heard of this place: My good friend and fellow foodie called to suggest that we could go out for lunch, rather than staying in. This is where she chose to take me. Type of cuisine: Thai. Simple, delicious, home cooked and served with a warm smile. Ambiance: Safe, comfortable and spacious, elegant and simple, peaceful and serene, welcoming and warm. What I ordered: At the recommendation of my friend and dining companion, I followed suit by ordering the Lunch Combo Special ($9.95) Green Curry, including: chicken simmered with green curry spices, coconut milk, green bean, zucchini, bamboo shoots, bell peppers and basil, served with Phad Thai, a spring roll, Jasmine white rice. What I loved: The green curry! I opted for spice level four (out of five) and thoroughly enjoyed the creamy green curry with fresh, crisp vegetables and a burst of spiciness! Why I loved it: The space is clean and clutter-free, yet quaint, modern and cozy. The lunch portion is healthy and generous, filling and satisfying. Our server greeted us with a smile, served us with a smile, and waved us farewell with a smile. Cost: Low to Average ($9.95 per lunch entree; $1 additional for brown rice)

This is some of the best thai food I have ever had. The curries are phenomenal, I am feeling hungry just thinking about them. Also the cocktails are great. The kiki's special is my favorite. The only downside is that the service can be pretty slow at times, but it depends on who's working.

this place is a fave of my friend and she hauled me inside. the upscale inside didn't fit my impression from the outside, and it's high ceilings and open space did not make me think about homestyle food. it was early but i was starving. fresh rolls. larb gai, garlic garlic and a spicy noodle dish is how we rolled. timing was off, as the food pretty much all came out at once. but we didn't let that stop us. everything was pretty tasty. there were lots of fresh ingredients and service was quick. i do wish that there was a bit more kick to the spice of the dishes, but i thought the food was good and i would come by again.

I came here for dinner. I had spring rolls appetizer, which was a disappointment. The rolls had limited amount of vegetables/ cabbage. There was some kind of cheap noodles in the middle, and tasted like dirt, maybe they didn't rinse the cabbage well. Now to the main course. I ordered avocado curry. The pistachios were stale and soft, tofu was mushy, and the green curry was very bland. I had to send that one back immediately. Second entree was garlic pork. I can clearly tell that the pork was over cooked, it was very very dry, like it was sitting precooked in a fridge for couple of days. Vegetables were on point. Nice and crispy, great color. Staff was ok, didn't really care if we liked it or not. Asked if I wanted a box for the leftover food. I declined, because it was awful. I waited to see if they would even ask if I enjoyed the dish, but they seem to not care. I payed my bill and left very very disappointed with a slight stomachache. I will not be back.

There a few dishes that stand out, like the crispy tofu with basil. But most of the food is pretty pedestrian Thai. The service is slow though, and they act as though they couldn't care less at times. Takes a while to get your meal too. We're locals and put up with it (tend to get takeout) but the service can get annoying. The pad thai - a little too much fish sauce and a bit sweet. Worth trying. But ultimately, expensive for what it is.

  • Celeste T.

The farmhouse pad thai (or whatever the adjective is that it's named) is great - tender rice noodles, tasty savory sauce, tender chicken with crushed peanuts, fresh bean sprouts on top. We also had a salmon dish that was listed under seafood. The curry sauce that was on the salmon was creamy and delicious. I like my food fairly spicy, and we ordered everything three stars - which was perfect. Spicy but not so crazy you can't handle it. Service was attentive without being invasive, and consistently done with a smile. The bathrooms aren't fancy, but they're clean. The prices are very reasonable. I was regretting not asking to sit on one of the daybeds, but it was just one other person and I, and it seems very much like the daybeds are for large parties.

OK, the take out is still decent. BUT, I had a terrible experience yesterday: So I arrive with a friend of mine and we're waiting at the front. I notice there is ONE person working the entire restaurant. She comes up front and seats us quickly. Then she's gone. She proceeds to answer the phone for to-go orders and seat more people as they come in. She's not able to take our order because she keeps seating more people and taking more phone orders. I really wanted to shout at her "Get a clue and focus on the customers you have seated." But I abstained. Then she finally came over. We asked about a drink menu and she said "we have no bartender so we can't make you a drink." So we ask, "can you make one?" She replies "yeah I guess but i'm busy so it might take a while." Before she takes our drink order, she leaves to do god knows what. Hello? Are you there? Where did you go? Then we're waiting, waiting, watching her answer the phone and seat more people. A woman who sat next to us, waited, and waited, then finally got up and left. Long story short, we spent over 2 hours for a quick lunch with a drink. The food was ok. We had the fresh shrimp rolls and some tom yum. The tom yum was basically boiling water, some tofu chunks and some tom yum paste, no veggies or anything of substance. Watching her make a drink was sad: the martinis were made over about a 15 min period. She puts the ice in a mixer, leaves, time passes, returned puts the vodka and vermouth in, leaves, returns, shakes and pours drinks, leaves again! returns, serves us watered down martinis. sick. Thank god she remembered because at that point we really needed a drink. At the end we got the bill, no discounts, no acknowledgement, nothing. I did feel bad for the poor girl alone, but her skill set is just not there. Focus on the customers you have, make others wait don't just seat them, hell ... make us wait but don't seat people you can't even wait on! The owners should be ashamed of themselves, they did not train the employee or have enough staff to run a lunch shift. I will never go there again.

Food is okay. Service is marginal but ok overall. We ordered: Fresh rolls - not bad, but I've definitely had better. Spicy Noodles - not that spicy. And came with spinach leaves on top. Interesting. Green Curry - it was fine. Have had better elsewhere. Divine Beef - It was everything but divine. It's described as: crowd pleaser. But I honestly don't think it pleased anyone. It was supposed to be sizzling but by the time it got to our table, it looked lifeless and sad. Eggplant - Now this was the winner dish. It was nice and hot and freshly prepared. Great flavor too. I'd return to order this dish but nothing else. I suppose it's good enough for the neighbors. Better than not having one I suppose.

The food is good, however you should know that their "4 star" system of heat is completely arbitrary and useless. I like a bit of heat, but 2 stars in the same dish will get you everything from way too hot to even eat, to completely mild with almost no spice at all. Talking to them won't help, they will be very short with you if you try. It's like they never eat the food themselves so they have no idea how hot it could or would be. It's hard because if it's too hot, I don't enjoy it at all, if it's a real 2 star dish, I love it! So, we eat here very infrequently, and that's sad, because when they get the heat right, it's the best Thai around. But no amount of talking to them will get the heat you desire.

We ordered the "Absolutely Garlic" lunch combo as take out food during the Superbowl game and the results were about as satisfying as the Seahawks loss. Please, when you have a tofu and vegie dish, put some vegetables into it. I counted 8 sliced carrots, two pieces of cabbage and maybe three bits of broccolli. The meal was about 75% carbs -- rice and phad thai.

This is a family favorite for me. When you dont want to cook but you want a well prepared meal, go here! The food is amazing and plentiful. I usually get the fresh spring rolls and one of the curry dishes (they are all good). They also have a large selection of sea food and pad thai variations. The interior is very modern and sleek. You feel very comfortable inside. Also they offer large cushioned areas raised above the floor where you can lie down while you eat or kneel much like you would in Asia. Tip: food portions are large! Some dishes will be a bit much for an adult, some dishes are enough for 2 adults.

I think this is one of the best places for Thai food in the Seattle area. The waitress were attentive and friendly. We like the restaurant decor. It was a very comfortable place to have dinner. The dishes were delicious! I love the Crab Fried Rice. The curry dishes were all tasty. Since we have been here so many times, we have tried a lot of items listed on the menu. The Miang Khamis and Chicken Lettuce Wraps were very flavorful. We will be back again!

I've spent more time in SE Asia than most Americans, and a fair amount of time in Thai restaurants. I judge. One of the factors by which I judge a Thai restaurant is their miang kham. In Seattle, that includes simply offering the dish, which is an appetizer properly made by putting peanuts, lime, chilis, ginger, shallots, dried shrimp, toasted coconut and a sweet sauce in chaplu leaves, or even betel leaves. Around here, you're lucky to find it served in lettuce leaves, if you can find it at all. Naam delivered: Great sauce and the betel leaves. I knew I'd like it there. For entrees we got the crispy chicken and beef with a sweet/spicy tamarind sauce. Both were outstanding and a nice departure from the same-old curries and pad thai. The decor was nice and modern and the staff was attentive and courteous. We had a great time and I will definitely return!

The food is great. The service is good for a Thai place. My problem is, I'm sure I was deliberately over charged on my visit last Sunday. They do not use a POS system. All bills are hand written and calculated and programmable 10 key. I had the waitress run me through how she calculated the bill. She was very defensive and ran the bill on their 10 key arriving at their total amount. However running the bill on my phone came out 10% less. I accounted for every item and tax. She did not accept the total I had on my phone. So I subtracted that 10% from the tip. My wife and I were regulars. Brining guest with us. The bill had never been as high as it was that night. We had three people and usual 4 entrees and an appetizer. The bill was just higher than usual. Double check your bill.

These guys seem to be lacking consistency lately, as in the last year or so. They are very very busy, so maybe that's it, but for a year...? Sometimes 4 stars is something I can eat, and I normally order a 1 star. Sometimes the food is undercooked, sometimes overcooked. We have learned to avoid the start of the week as the food just isn't consistently good. It's not cheap enough to buy it and deal.

I have been to this place several times. I nanny for a kid who lives nearby. It's wonderful for takeout. Our most recent visit was not so great. We ordered Thai lettuce wraps, phad kee mao, divine beef, and crispy chicken. The first two dishes were wonderful, delicious! The beef and chicken were incredibly overcooked, dry, and tasteless. I was shocked, and sad- it was Friday night and I was ready to EAT! I told the guy who came to fill our waters and he said the meat looked fine to him (as if he was the one eating it?!). He went back and forth with me and chose to tell me that I had to pay for everything I ordered. He even told me the meat was supposed to be overcooked and "slightly burned"!!! (WHAT?!) I asked to see the cook, and the same waiter came back with the same rudeness and demands that I pay for gross food. Then I asked to see the manager and a different waitress was sent out. Although she knew the kids, she made it clear she didn't believe I'd had their food before. I asked if she'd like to taste the food and she said she didn't eat beef- lucky lady. After she left, was yelled at by the first guy (in front of customers), and came back, she went one more round with me. I'm not a yeller, so don't think I'm one of "those" customers. However, by this time I felt insulted, and had received the worst customer service I've seen in a very long time. I ended up getting the entire meal for free, but their service is ridiculous. I will not be going back.

This was a really authentic, and relaxing place to visit for lunch. The atmosphere was very subtle, we used the couches to eat on, (remember to take off your shoes) and the food was brought out piping hot. They even made a special batch of sticky rice for us for desert. I would recommend this place to any Thai food enthusiast in a heartbeat!

Naam Thai is a great neighborhood staple for me and my roommates. We love it. Their homestyle pad thai is a favorite and their drinks are solid. We often avoid crowds by ordering take-out and have never had a bad experience. It's the closest thing to Thai comfort food that I've found. :)

I dropped by here and placed an order for pick up. It's a cute little spot and has a very modern design. I like that they have spots where you can take off your shoes and sit on cushions at tables. The food was delicious! But what really made me give them 3 stars instead of 4 is that they messed up my order- instead of 2 orders of pad seewu (sp?) we only got one. Good news is I didn't live far from there so driving back wasn't a huge hassle but it's just that I had to drive back that kind of sucked. What they did do, however, was give us 10% off for making the mistake. That was nice. And for that- I'll come back.

We never got to eat here. We came, were seated, given menus, even ordered. Everyone else around us got served, we asked about our food twice and were told it was almost ready, after 30 minutes we left. If the place is busy it falls apart, only go if they are half full apparently.

Day bed tables. Seriously. You eat on a day bed, propped up with pillows. My date and I did it up like John and Yoko. Except, when things got busy mid meal, the service and experience started to suck. Waitress was impatient and (when we asked her questions about a couple menu items) kinda snapped at us to read the menu and she'd come back when we were really ready. We didn't have anywhere to be, so it was ok. More water and coffee were met with just as much frustration. Also, the day bed table is right by the entrance - when a line formed, kids and families sat down on our bed-table (near and on us) while we ate, a couple times causing us to drop our dinner in our laps. The hostess didn't enforce this and we felt awkward needing to defend our table. Amazing food and first part of the meal! I just don't think I'd dine in again.

Best thai curry I've had in Seattle. Ask for 5 stars if you like spice, they do tend to make it a bit mild compared to some other places.

A great neighborhood place that is close and reliable. The staff is friendly and most important they have fast and easy takeout. You have to be a little picky about what you pick here but for me the highlights are the country style phad Thai. And the green beans are good tooI

Just moved to Madrona and came in for dinner last night. I was expecting more of a bare bones look but the interior is cute-nice, modern decor. I was excited to see they serve a bunch of $8 cocktails as well as lots of inexpensive wines by the bottle. Husband and I split the Yum Talay salad and the homestyle phad thai. The salad was pretty good but the phad thai was freaking delicious. Service was perfectly fine-speedy and polite. Excited to explore the rest of the menu.

We order from this place once a month and I can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet! Since moving to Leschi about 3 years ago, this has been a staple for our family as the food is great, the service prompt and it's walking-distance from where we live. We're usually ordering with a few vegetarians so we tend to stick with a lot of tofu and stir fry dishes. That said, we love all their curries, rolls are always fresh and delicious - just beware of the spice factor! I'm usually a 4 out of 5 guy, my wife the same but at Naam, we're more 3. It's great spice but the 4 tends to overwhelm the food sometimes.

I want to start by saying that the food here is really, really good. If you want take out this is your best bet for Thai in the central area of Seattle. Everything tastes super fresh, and nothing seems to come from a bottle or can. The noodles are especially light and delicate. I'm knocking this down to a three because the service is pretty spotty. We waited quite a while to order, despite being one of just a couple of tables in the house at that time, and then waited so long for our check that we thought we'd been forgotten about. That might not have been enough to make me cut back my rating (I think their food is great and am less bothered by poor service than some people--especially at places that are low price point) but the restaurant was super cold! Both my partner and I had to keep our coats on while we ate, and so did many diners at other tables. I'll come back for take out, but might wait for summer to eat in-house again!

I only ended up here last night because the Louisiana Creole place I had been meaning to try on E. Cherry was closed, so I kept on driving into Madrona to check out the options. This was my first visit inside Naam. I do recall jogging by here last summer when they had the doors and windows open. At that time there was a miniature collie tied to the post out front, and it lunged at me as I went by. I remember the rotten little beast. It was blind in one eye and some old lady who had been sitting inside the restaurant came out and assured me her baby wouldn't hurt a flea. Yeah, sure. I loved the modern West Elm-like interior, especially the birch panels with patterns of circles that reminded me of fish and waves. The late afternoon sun was in full splendor and it was curious that half of the windows were covered with a blind, but no blind existed for the other half so the sun blazed in. They did have a fan going so it was comfortably cool, you just had to hang on tight on to your napkin so it wouldn't blow away. I wasn't massively hungry, so I only ordered a Thai Iced Coffee and the "Beef Delight." Though the restaurant was nearly filled and the wait staff were really scrambling, I received my food items quickly. Service overall was very good. I liked the smoky flavor of the Thai Iced Coffee. The Beef Delight, termed a "crowd pleaser" on the menu, was good. It consisted of sukiyaki-like beef, white onion, cabbage and a sweet soy sauce, topped with a light sprinkling of sesame seeds. I thought how the cabbage was cut and cooked worked out especially well. The beef was a little tough though. However, overall, this dish had a great flavor. Also, they didn't skimp on the meat. Noticed other restaurant changes in the neighborhood. Looks like Latin Bistro died, but according to the sign in the window, it will arise like a sphinx but now be named "Delicious Tiny Latin Bites". Also, I see that a restaurant named "June" has opened in Cremant's old location.

I'm no expert on Thai food, but, this seems like one of the better places of the six or so places we've tried in Seattle now. All of the usual dishes are on the menu that we like, Pad Thai, Spicey Noodles, spring rolls, and also their Naam Fried Rice. The food is simple and flavorful...and there aren't any crazy hidden ingredients to trigger my allergies here. The restaurant space is clean and simple, and tonight we decided to try out one of the cute little corner day beds. We've never been disappointed here. Great spot.

We had reservations for a party of 6 at 6:00pm. The food was okay but the service was terrible. They only had 3 people working and the place was full like any saturday night. We had to wait an unreasonable time for drinks, appetizers, food and worst of all the bill. Then they gave my credit card and bill to another person who was also waiting for a bill. I had to get up to ask for to go containers, our bill and our final bill. Terrible! I don't think we will eat at this restaurant again. My advice is that they should hire more help instead of trying to make more money using less staff.

What a nice little spot! Really relaxing vibe in a quaint neighborhood (one of my favs)! I came here on a droopy Thursday - one that needed a mid-day pick me up. That's just what I got. I didn't order (for once), so I'm not sure what the exact dish was called, but how bad is a dish of tofu mixed with peanut sauce and sautéed spinach? Yes, please! I will take 5! Side of brown rice... ok, good to go. I fell in love at first bite. Food that is both comforting and fairly healthy - that is what you get when you come here. The service was great; as were the prices. I haven't explored the menu too much, but from what I can tell, this place will serve up just about anything that will satisfy your taste buds and not over consume your wallet. Deal? Deal!

I live in Madrona and am so happy to have Naam Thai so close. This is our go-to Thai place in Seattle and we LOVE it! My favorite dish is the chicken pad thai and I also love the divine beef. Neither my husband or I have ever had a bad meal here. When we order for take out we have enough for 2-3 meals, which is amazing, especially at the already low price point they offer. If you do go in to the restaurant to dine, it's very sleek and modern and they have a full bar, as well as a few tables where you can sit on cushions and take your shoes off. The wine list isn't very impressive, but again, they do have a full bar. I would certainly recommend Naam!

I give this restaurant 2 stars NOT because of the quality of the food. The food is delicious and it's actually the best Thai food I've had, and that includes numerous visits to the vast other restaurants in Seattle and the Bay Area. The reason for the rating is solely based on their poor customer service and less than attentive staff. The staff doesn't seem to be happy that you're eating at their restaurant. They barely great you and are often frowning. Service is slow during any period when the restaurant has more than 4 tables busy. Servers don't pay any attention to your requests and they literally drop your food off and don't ask if you need anything more. My water glass was never filled (mind you I ordered 3 stars). Overall, great food but avoid actually dining-in. Call ahead and order take-out.

A pretty reliable Thai place in the Madrona neighborhood. I come here occasionally when I have a Thai food craving since it's close to my house. I frequently order the yellow curry and am usually satisfied. I have also tried the fresh rolls, pad thai, garlic chicken, and pad see ew- all were good but somewhat bland and lacked seasoning. Generally, their dishes are not spicy. I order my dishes at 4 stars (the max) and always ask for their spice cart to give it some more kick! Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this place, but then again, I can't really come up with anything remarkably positive either. Convenient neighborhood location, great atmosphere, and okay food.

Have to side with Adam C. on this one. My wife and I brought four international students from Vancouver B.C. for a quick tour of Seattle yesterday. Our last stop was Naam Thai and a great one it was. We had Miang Kham, Panang curry w. chicken, crispy chicken (house special) , Tom Yum soup, Pad Ruam and Thai tea-strong and pungent. Everything was great but the crispy chicken and panang curry stood out. There were six of us who agreed that the variety and amounts were just right. We even had some Tom Yum left over, not because it wasn't delicious. Service. I noticed that many of the complaints were about slow service. We arrived at 6;15 (Fri. night) to a less than half full room. An hour later it was packed. I could see that the later arrivals would get slower service--sucks to be you. Seriously, our service was friendly, helpful although not particularly attentive. But keeping a lean staff may be one way they keep prices so reasonable. Sorry, Dawn only one star for this super place is downright mean. Who are we to say? Thai food is a long-time pre-occupation of my wife and I. She's a pretty mean chef herself and we've had a Thai trained chef live with us for a couple of months in which she passed on many tips. But the kicker for our dinner last night was that 3 of our students were from Thailand and they all gave Naam Thai an enthusiastic thumbs up. Tip: Expand your horizons, no love Pad Thai long time. Fyi Naam means water.

My mom and I randomly discovered Naam Thai a few years and I've been coming since then with family and friends. The food is consistently really good, and the peanut sauce is just right. Also when I ask for spicy they will make it spicy, which is nice because other Thai places seem to skimp on the heat! It's quiet and serene, which I am a huge fan of.

I wish I could give them 3.5 stars... The food was okay, and the service was good. I had some Pad Khee Mao, and was decent.

Three of us ordered several appetizers and three entrees, plus a bottle of wine. The food came relatively quickly and was delicious. After the meal, the check came; we paid it, the table was clear of food dishes, and were finishing up the last of our wine for just a few moments. The waitress, who was sweeping the floor, told us we had to leave because the restaurant was closed. It was 9:35pm. A really nice meal tarnished with the feeling, "We have your money, now get out of here." I won't be back.

I am so fortunate to live within walking distance from here and have tried nearly a dozen Thai places in Seattle and the Eastside. Naam is definitely right there at the top. I feel bad for not having written a review earlier, as we have been coming here since they opened a few years ago. I judge a Thai place from the Pad Thai, and this place has one of the best. Depending on my mood, I get either the regular or country Pad Thai. Spiciness factor is on the mild side, so if you can really handle the heat, make sure you ask for it.

Great curries, especially the panang and the other one (ma-something) that isnt red green or yellow. Ive been to a lot of thai places in Seattle, and this one is still the best. Not greasy, and AMAZING complex flavors. Yum!

This is more like an upscale cafeteria than a restaurant. The interior looks cute from the outside - with fun seating options - but once you get inside the ambiance is completely off for a restaurant. To say it is family-friendly is an understatement. When we were there, there was an entire table of kids eating on their own, and at another table a mother and her daughter had brought their coloring books and pencils. Great for kids, but don't go there if you're expecting an adult dinner out. Service is VERY bad. Not unfriendly, but completely untrained. It took the waitress two tries and 20 minutes to bring out a beer. She was rushing around trying to multitask, but meanwhile there were other staff just standing around. I suspect it's a family establishment where there is zero training or system in place. You will spend some time craning your neck looking for the waitress to order, to get the bill, etc. Food is pretty decent though. We got chicken and shrimp satay, pad see ew, and tom kha soup. All were tasty, and came nicely presented on beautiful plates. That said, until I push out a few kids of my own, the food alone is not enough to bring me back.

This is a great little neighborhood restaurant. It's very clean and the staff is friendly. I've eaten in only once and the service was quite slow, but not horrible considering it was a busy Saturday night. They have a nice large menu, good sized portions, reasonable prices (especially considering the neighborhood) and they're one of the only Thai restaurants in town that will serve you Pad Thai noodles ("homestyle") that aren't laced with sugary ketchup. But, not to worry if you like the sugary kind, they serve both. My big negative on this restaurant is that the food is so inconsistent. I've ordered lunch take-out a dozen times. The spice levels are never the same. Sometimes the curry is watered-down and sometimes it's thick and coconut-y. Sometimes the chicken is overcooked and dry, same goes with the beef. Other times it's just fine. It's been good more than bad, otherwise I wouldn't keep going back. Unfortunately, I had two bad meals in a row so may not be going back. Once, I asked an item be held from a curry dish (I have a mild allergy) and when I got home, it was still in there. I didn't want to drive back, and I also didn't want to eat the dish for fear I'd have a reaction. The next time I ordered a swimming rama dish. The spinach was bitter, almost raw yet oily and the peanut sauce was like brown water. The tofu seemed half cooked and came in the largest, softest chunks I've ever seen at a Thai restaurant. I literally had to throw the whole thing away. That said, I've had many wonderful meals at this restaurant in the past. I may very well try them again as they're in the neighborhood, have reasonable prices and get the order right the majority of the time.

My wife and I frequent Naam almost on a weekly basis as it's not too far from where we live. The space is great and a good spot for large groups. its also family friendly. Most of the plates we tried are great. My favorite is the chicken phad thai country style or the panaang curry. My wife always enjoys the garlic beef or one of the fried rice dishes. The coconut ice cream for dessert is a must. I'm disappointed to hear the negative reviews about the food. But everybody has different tastes. I do agree that the service at Naam isn't the most efficient nor speedy. It's a shame really. It's not that they lack the staff, it seems more like a restaurant operations training issue (or lack there of). I'd still recommend it but just plan on having some time. Parking is also easy to find.

I've been going her pretty regular for about a year because its close, convenient and the food is generally pretty good...service extremely blah by apathetic servers who seem to be annoyed by the presence of customers...a certain mystery to me... Today I took a friend and her food was good, mine... burnt :( service rude! A really negative experience and since I go there frequently enough it would not be asking much...at minimum for a hello and would expect burnt food to be compensated with apology (being a former restaurant owner for nearly 20 years this is the norm to me) but no...I got a dirty look and a bill charging me $12.95 for food that was thrown away....too bad, I guess they are satisfied with less than mediocre!

The food is delicious, the portions are good and the prices are fairly reasonable. The decor is clean and modern. The only things that could use work is the service and the cocktails, which could be more flavorful. The wait staff is friendly and courteous, but need to have order details repeated and sometimes forget a few items. Also, not a huge deal, but if beer is ordered, I think they should just bring a glass with the bottle rather than just the bottle. Naam Thai has only been opened a few weeks, so in all fairness, they are doing well overall and really could be the restaurant that is finally here to stay in this space. Once service improves, they are sure to be a frequented, local favorite.

I've only been here once, but have already spread the good news about this place and am planning a second visit. This has easily become my new favorite Thai place in Seattle. The portions are generous and priced fairly, and the food is fabulous. Some Asian places give you slivers of meat/tofu or vegetables, which make me question whether or not they require chewing, but not this place! The interior is really inviting and spacious, unlike so many other places in Seattle where it seems like they try to cram in as many people as possible. The service is also really efficient and pleasant. My advice: make reservations or call ahead for take-out...this place is worth it!

I drove all the way from my home in Phinney Ridge to Madrona during rush hour traffic and you know what, the trek was definitely worth it! I met my friends there for dinner and we ordered the chicken satay skewers, the beef salad, phad thai with prawns, ginger delight with chicken and the grilled salmon with red curry. Every dish we had was flavorable!!! My favorite had to be the salmon with red curry. Number one...I love red curry! The grilled salmon just made that dish ten times better. Normally at the end of any Thai dinner...there are leftovers to take home but not this dinner. We ate everything! Oh, and the ambiance is nice. I tell ya...if I lived closer to the area, I'd make a point to eat here at least once a month.

Our experience with Naam was a beautiful, tragic story with hopes for a better sequel. The narrative goes something like this: we're hungry. Naam is close by. There is hope. Order take out via phone. We ask for 6 STARS (out of 4) on their spiciness scale. Hope rises. Walk there, back with take out. The meal. Salad and spring rolls are quite good. Our hopes rise further on the promise of spicy green curry and Spicy Noodles (promisingly referred to as such on the menu). THEN TRAGEDY STRIKES. The Green curry is thin and weak. Barely a hint of zing in the whole deal. The spicy noodles are cause for false advertising--not even a zip. And not tasty. Lame. What's weird is I could see the peppers in the dishes, but NO HEAT TO BE FOUND! I think we'll try again (since it's close) and stick to the salads and house specials or something. The curries seem like they've been toned way down in flavor and spiciness. Oh, the kicker? Because of all the (heatless) chile in the dish my gut was destroyed the next day.

This is the first time I've actually been impressed by food at a Thai restaurant in Seattle. I've been satisfied, I've been pleased, but until last night, I was never actually excited about the food. We asked them to make things at whatever spice level was good for the dish, rather than trying for mass customization. We had about 11 different things in a group of 9. Everything was very nicely seasoned, some things spicy and some things a little more mild. All the typical Thai restaurant dishes were a step up above the usual Seattle execution. Tom yum with soft tofu was deep and flavorful. The miang kham had betel leaves instead of cheap spinach. The curries were unusually deeply flavored. The country-style pad thai was simple and nice. Most of the seafood dishes were hits with the non-veg folks in our group. The only miss was some overly chewy pork--my wife is going through some massive pig cravings right now and while she dug the sauce, the meat was apparently a bit dry. The important thing here was balance: nothing was excessively sweet, excessively oily or excessively over-the-top anything. The service still has some kinks, as it takes them a while to realize you're ready to order, but the food came out at a respectable pace. I get the impression the waitstaff doesn't yet know the difference between relaxed and hungry. The decor is surprisingly beautiful. I can't recall the predecessors of this restaurant well enough to remember how much of their interior has been repurposed, but it's a nicely appointed space and I dig the low tables near the windows. Unlike most neighborhood Thai restaurants, this place has legs; it's not just about stuffing yourself with big amounts of sugary masses of hot, oily carbohydrates. We'll get some serious cravings to come back. If they get a little bit better with that initial observe-customers-take-orders part of the equation, it'll be a hard place to beat.

I know the service in a place is bad, really bad, when I spend 30 minutes writing and re-writing my first paragraph about how bad the service is; each version just got longer than the next. Bottom line is that even though they have half a dozen people on the floor, none of them seem to know what they're doing. Long waits for seating, longer waits to order, drinks coming after the first course comes, no one checking in during the meal. Just truly awful. And that's a shame because the food is really good. Everything we ate looked pretty and was devoured quickly. They do a huge takeout business and I"m guessing that a lot of that is people who want the good food but can't deal with the horrible service.

I only ever eat reclining for two reasons: 1) it's Passover, or 2) I'm in Las Terrenas in the DR dining at the super-sexy Paco Cabana on a daybed on the beach. Now I have a third reason: the cozy corner day-beds at Naam. Those relaxing oases of cushions elevated our meal from pretty darn good Thai, to really fun Thai. Add to it the delicious cocktail that goes by the name of Kiki's Special, a name that makes me dream in wide-eyed anime, and I'm in heaven. It's just too bad that the sharp decor and focused flavors aren't matched by the service, which was friendly enough but verging on sloppy and neglectful. It's not enough to keep me away though. Next time I need a rest and some tangy spicy beef salad, I know right where to go.

  • Steph E.

The service was good, seating was spacious-- off to a good start. Crab wanton appetizer seemed to be a little short on crab but our main dishes helped us forget all about that. Spicy Noodle is DIVINE and so was my rama noodle dish. Fresh perfectly cooked vegetables were impressive. I can't recall the last time I was so satisfied with Thai food in WA. I will be back. Curious about the other dishes and the specialty cocktails:-)

  • Aly M.

The ambiance was nice. I could see this place being really cozy/intimate at night. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular, either. We got the chicken satay, fresh rolls and pad see ew. The fresh rolls were good, but the shrimp inside definitely wasn't fresh. The pad see ew was tasty and exactly the same as any other Thai place. That's not a bad thing - I'd be annoyed if they up and changed it. I can see this place becoming our neighborhood go-to for take-out, but it's nothing to write home about.

I really enjoy this restaurant. All the entree dishes I've tried rank among the best I've had at any Thai place, and it's probably the only Thai place I've been to where I prefer to dine in rather than take-out. Excellent for a casual date. The spicy noodles are my favorite... SO good. I crave them constatntly. Stay away from the prawn roll appetizers unless you don't mind very fishy tasting prawns - my girlfriend I were both pretty disappointed, and I usually love that kind of stuff.

  • Shaunessy J.

I really enjoy their lunch specials. Working in Rainer Valley there are not that many good restaurants to grab lunch at when you don't want to drive into Capitol Hill or Downtown. Naam Thai is an office favorite. The atmosphere is comfortable. The prices are affordable. The food is tasty.

Finally, a Thai restaurant in Madrona! It took over the spot that's been temporarily occupied by several restaurants, including Coupage and others. We hope that Naam is here to stay. The decor is much improved, with lots of light courtesy of a skylight and front windows that roll up to include the street. And, as several have mentioned, the dayseats/cushions are going to be a big hit with children and adults alike. We enjoyed the food -- not as much as Jamjuree on 15th, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt as they were only open for ~48 hours when we stopped in. The portions were generous, and yummy. And, total price, including a drink for my wife (and water for me) was ~$30, so we'll most definitely be back for in-room dining as well as lots of pickup.

I live in the area, and was stoked to have a neighborhood thai place. I havent eaten in yet, but have had take-out a couple times and been happy with the food. I wish the peanut sauce was a bit more spicy, but everything else was great!

After eating at Naam Thai, the search for Thai tasting Thai food continues. Dinner last night was a disappointment. While the Tom kha gai was tasty, the entree of BASIC phad Thai was ooooooooh so BAD. It was literally noodles with a bad premade sauce dousing the dish. No veggies other than the salad on the side. No condiment tray to spice things up...no options to expand the palate. No satisfaction from this diner who will not go back to 34th and union until another restaurant occupies this space.

Food lacked any heat when it was ordered spicy. Water tasted like an old swimming pool. Waiter never checked in. The phad Thai side on the lunch combo was good though. Won't be back

Just moved to the central district - grateful to have discovered good thai within walking distance...so one of the stars earned is for location, for sure. Friendly service - absolutely. Another star. Atmosphere - clean, spare, attractive. And finally, the red curry. My first and only experience of Naam Thai thus far, but it totally hits the mark for me. A 3 feels like a 3 to my palate, and the tofu is lightly fried for a bit of texture - thank goodness it's not the buttery/slimy stuff. Four stars total. I'll be back.

The only restaurant in Madrona which is worth eating dinner at on a regular basis. There are other restaurants, but they all have drawbacks -- too pricy, or too slow, or just not good enough to go back, or the menu is limited and never changing. Naam has reasonably good Thai food, and moderate prices. They have a nice atmosphere, and also offer take-out (though that takes a while when the restaurant is busy). They have mixed drinks, though that can double the cost of dinner. All-in-all, the first Madrona restaurant in a long while that I go to regularly -- for dinner or take-out.

  • Jim L.

I love Thai food and Naam does it well. My favorites are phad thai, ginger chicken, and panang curry. I went for three stars and curry was plenty spicy. I have dined in and found staff friendly and nice. The decor has a more upscale and modern feel than typical thai restaurant without higher prices. I also do take out since I live nearby which seems popular to do among my neighbors.

A fan of Thai food I normally check out the Panang Curry but unusually I tried something different at Naam Thai Cusine. The big reason was because instead of normal seating we got a huge couch that could possible fit 4- 5 people. With my shoes off and my legs stretched out I ordered a Rama Rong Song with chicken and loved it! The food was good, ambiance is cool, bathroom is clean but the service was wack! I would go back for everything else but they better have a better work shift next time or else......

Had take-out from Naam while staying with a friend recently. The people here are so friendly! The food, just so so. I had the Penang curry with chicken. The curry flavor was on the thin side and the spice level at 2 stars was almost indistinguishable. Bummer. Either my taste buds are burned to a crisp, or their star ratings are for whimps. And this dish was on the expensive side for what you get. I did try a bite of my friend's countrystyle pad Thai. This dish was pretty tasty. Food envy!

Goooooooooood food. Got the pad thai, and it was wonderful. The chicken was a bit overcooked, but the sauce was amazing. Their regular sauce is tomato based, so I ordered it "country style", which is tamarind based. I got the wussy version (no star?) and loved it. Peaceful, small, cleanly designed, and amazingly affordable.

  • Eli B.

It's close, easy, affordable and looks nice. I really like the food here, but I tend to like bland-ish, fresh tasting dishes. My husband is over it after the last few times. Word of warning - the banquet seating that runs along the entire restaurant is at a funny angle so you feel like you are falling out of your seat onto the floor all through dinner. This can be annoying and make you want to move or leave depending on your tolerance.

Hey now, this place is great. The owners and staff are sweet, if inexperienced, and the top-notch design makes for a fresh dining experience----it's a place you can feel good about going on a date or bringing out-of-town guests for a casual dinner. Good food, very good appetizers and coconut milk soups. Strawberry lemonade = excellent. Do order more stars than you are used to at other Thai places. (another reason why it's safe to bring out-of-town guests too)

Naam Thai is one of the two places open for lunch in Madrona, where I work, and I am dang happy it's here. After a succession of fancy restaurants that failed to survive the storefront, Naam is a beautifully decorated little spot, with fantastic fresh flavors. Even the standards are surprising. I love to get the lunch special, which comes with a fried spring roll, phad thai (must be made with real tamarind instead of ketchup!) your chosen entrée with tofu or chicken, and white rice. Brown rice is a dollar more, but so worth it. I favor the green curry, as I always do. Naam's is so yummy. Prices are fair, and takeout is efficient. Go to Naam!

Naam is our go to neighborhood restaurant for take out and dining in. I appreciate that the staff confirm your to go order. The take out service seems to have improved time wise, and we've not recently had an excessive wait when dining in. I'm a fan of the chicken lettuce wraps and the larb gai. Thanks for bringing great Thai food to Madrona.

  • Moira H.

Awww, I really like this place and it's a bummer to see the comments about service. The service isn't lavish by any means nor is it doting, but it's not inhospitable; I like to consider it "matter-of-fact" style which to me is kind of refreshing. The space is bright, clean, and modern. The food is bright, clean and well-priced. I'm happy it's there!

In short, of the various Thai restaurants in Seattle, especially in the Madison Valley/Cap Hill/Madrona area, Naam Thai offers the best execution of an interesting range of Thai dishes, not just the familiar (and boring) standbys. Stopped in at about 6pm on a Th night. Small crowd, but lots of takeout business. It's a nice space, with a modern design. We were promptly seated at a reasonably sized two person table. Looking at the menu, I was excited about Thai for the first time in a loooong time. Lots of interesting dishes and variations of familiar dishes, e.g., there's both the familiar Pad Thai and "Country" style, which is made with tamarind rather than tomato paste. There was a seperate menu with several specials that seemed worth trying. We ordered two dishes from the specials menu and an appetizer. All of which were well executed, nicely spiced, and tasted great. Several people have commented negatively about the service, but our experience was neither positive nor negative; the service was acceptable. I think Naam Thai is definitely worth a try, especially if you're tired of the standard Thai fare that's served throughout Seattle. We'll be back.

It actually pains me (literally and figuratively) to write this review as there is nothing more that I would like than to have a Thai restaurant in my neighborhood that I could count on once a week. I have have a lot...probably too much...thai food in my life and enjoy a good curry. The problem is that Naam doesn't seem to understand the concept of making food too spicy. I always ask for 2 stars and loved it but something changed about a month ago and now 2 stars is like 5 stars. My food is covered in red chili flakes and now, having given them 3 additional tries, they have struck out. I even talked to the manager and told him about my last 2 experiences and he assured me that there would be no spice in my food tonight. It is 2 hours later as I write this and my mouth is still numb...and I only had about 5 bites. It is disappointing, to say the least. Bye, bye Naam. Back to Thai Ginger for me.

I used to really like this place. This was when I only did to-go orders, didn't order drinks and didn't actually eat in the restaurant. The decor is nice, the service is mediocre at best and the food is good depending on what you order. The Kee Mao noodles are delicious and the Tom Yum soup is one of the most authentic in the city. But the tasty bites stop there. I've tried several other things on the menu and they are "meh". The cocktails were pricey for how poorly they were made and the restaurant is SWARMING with screaming children. Don't get me wrong, I love kids, but not when I'm trying to have a nice quiet dinner with my boyfriend. I guess that's what you get when you eat in Madrona.

Great atmosphere with good to better than good food. Had great chicken Pad Thai. The other dish (I can't remember the name) was ok. The fresh spring rolls were a great app and they come with a peanut sauce that we kept for the rest of our meal to ut on everything. Seating was cool with a mixture of tables and day bed lounge type areas that you kind of layed out on. Felt very casual and fun. Only issue was spotty service. Sometimes they would be over attentive and other times we wouldn't see anyone when we just wanted another drink. Overall, a worthwhile place to check out.

We never got to eat here. We came, were seated, given menus, even ordered. Everyone else around us got served, we asked about our food twice and were told it was almost ready, after 30 minutes we left. If the place is busy it falls apart, only go if they are half full apparently.

We can't order takeout if your phone is always busy.

  • Darcy H.

I was hopeful for this restaurant, considering Madrona is thin on Thai spots and Asian cuisine in general. Unfortunately, the service was subpar, menu overpriced and the food arrived short of expectations as my "divine beef" was shown to include carrots but arrived w/o them. :(

  • Salty S.
