Extensive list if sushi and rolls. Opted for a ramen soup, which did the job. The baked green mussels were a little chewy but overall I like the place. Service was good.

Disclaimer: We went during lunch. We waited probably an hour to get our food, which we ordered for take-away. They had one waitress for the entire floor, who was sweating from just trying to keep up with everything. Just watching the discomfort in that poor woman's smile was extremely off-putting, and I would have left the restaurant unless I'd already ordered. The food was fine, which is a shame because of how poorly the establishment is being managed from an operational standpoint. I'll probably never be back.

Food is okay, price is okay and location is great. However, they take FOREVER to give your food. The place was busy, so I was expecting to wait like 15-20 minutes. It turns out that I waited no less than 45 minutes (yes, forty five). I was not the only one. There was an Amazon guy complaining that he was just ordering a take-out bento box and that he was already late for a meeting. Food was okay for the price: $11.50 after tax for the lunch special. I ordered a bento box with Salmon and Tofu. Well, I asked whether the tofu was grilled or fried. He said grilled (my preference) so I ordered. Well, it was fried. :( I'd give them a second chance because I know that sometimes unpredictable stuff happen, but by reading other reviews it seems that this is quite frequent.

A conveniently located sushi restaurant near the Amazon Corporate campus, Mio certainly draws a large lunchtime crowd on a typical weekday. The sushi is fine (for lunch), however the service is typically slow and the restaurant crowded. When I've visited for lunch, I've had to ask for my soda (soy sauce, napkin, chopsticks, you name it) several times from several different staff before walking up to the counter to get it myself. It also takes kind of a while for food to be brought out. I've had several of the rolls, but typically opt for the Beauty & The Beast or the Crunch. The price is right at $10 or under for most rolls, but again food quality is just "fine". I would compare to sushi that you could pick up from QFC or Lunds. Overall, an average-at-best lunchtime spot that I visit out of convenience more than anything else.

Great service and awesome food. Mio sushi never failed me and this place was never no differnet. Maybe better. Love their interior designs! Will definitely be back for more. Right now they are on event. Until August 11th, if you get california roll, you get one spicy fried california roll for free!! Better be there before its too late folks.

Yesterday I went here for lunch, they are normally very busy around lunch time as they have a lot of people from buildings nearby come down to have a bite to eat. The food was very good and a pretty good price for what I got. The service though wasn't good, it took us 45 minutes to get out food, normally it isn't like this though and I'm not sure what happened apparently they had a lot of "take out orders" that they needed to fill. All in all I would say that if you haven't tried it, then it is worth a shot to try, it's not super authentic but with a modern twist it wasn't bad at all. For 3 people we ended up spending around $35, and the portions were quite large(we got the Bentos).

WHY OH WHY would ANYONE ever eat here? I made the mistake once too. I stepped in for lunch one day, and was halted by a sign that assured me that the hostess would show me to my table. After standing patiently for a few minutes, the hostess finally finished texting from her phone and led me to my table. But it only got worse from here. My seat was super uncomfortable, and my butt hurt by the time I left the restaurant. There were at least two flies buzzing around my table. A small bowl the waitress furnishes wasn't even entirely clean, complete with sauce stains on the side and inside. Then my sushi arrived. Rice was unseasoned and hard. Fish was stale and desiccated. Supermarket sushi would've tasted better. A piece of octopus was the worst -- it was hard and chewy as hell. Even the eel was bad -- the BBQ sauce's cloying sweetness overpowering any other flavor I could detect. I also tried a shrimp tempura udon entree. The udon was standard but the egg that came with it was overcooked and ugly as sin. Shrimp tempura was limping and soggy from soaking in the broth too long. Throughout the meal, I had asked for water to wash down all the crap I was eating, but it never arrived either. In general, a place to avoid unless you are desperate for food. Maybe you were recently released from prison or you don't care about your own health. Awful.

Price is reasonable! Customer service is all right! The food is very so-so! It is Korean owned Japanese restaurant. The Japanese food taste is kind of off.

There are not a ton of sushi options in the SLU area withing walking distance of the Amazon campus. If you are in SLU and craving sushi the place is worth a try - there is definitely better sushi is Seattle. 3 stars max. A vast majority of the rolls are priced in the $10 range, but a roll by itself is likely not enough for lunch. I went with the Mt Rainier, Spicy Tuna and Miso soup - the quantity was right, but the quality of food across the dishes was so-so, at $20 for lunch, hard to give the place anything above 3 stars. Given the lack of sit down sushi in the neighborhood, the place gets packed - we got here at 1230 and had to wait a good 20 minutes for a table.

My boyfriend and I have stopped here a few times for lunch and once for Happy Hour. They get pretty swamped at lunch, but you never have to wait an absurdly long amount of time to get your food. I think the biggest thing they can work on is the friendliness of their wait staff. I know they have a tough job and are running around a lot, but they don't check on you at all during your meal. It is also a little bit of a hassle to get your check. Their happy hour is AWESOME - great deals! Just wish it ran longer. Overall quality of the sushi is A. Delicious options, always fresh. Price wise it's reasonable as well. We normally walk out of there after spending ~$40 total for two.

Came here for the chirashi. The seared albacore was a bit tough.... Brought my complaints up with the sushi chef and he blamed it on the back kitchen chef. Situation was not remedied. Good points: Service was quick! Beautiful location. I'd totally give this place a second try... Lunch specials seem like a great deal!!!

I've been to this place a few times. The food is actually good. But there is just this one time that every thing is sooooo slow, and there not even a lot of people dinning in. Waited a long time to be seated, a long time to take orders. After we finished taking orders it has been 40 minutes.

My second and final attempt to like Mio Sushi was a huge fail. I really wanted to like this place since it's just down the block from our new condo, and I'm always craving Japanese food. I give them points for great customer service and a very friendly staff... but everything stops there. This Japanese restaurant is NOT the place to go if you want authentic Japanese food. This IS the place to go if you like a menu bombarded with Americanized rolls, sushi pizza (WTF!!!), and a big hole in your wallet. My first visit (1 month ago) I ordered a typical sampling of what I'd normally eat. Hamachi Kama and Uni are 2 things I really love, and are mandatory staples of my diet. I was happy to see them on the menu, so ordered one of each. The waitress told me they were out of the Hamachi Kama and the Uni. Strike one. No matter, I'll order a variety of nigiri and be done with it. Bad move. The sushi rice lacked the taste of vinegar and was somewhat cold to the touch. The fish wasn't as fresh as I had hoped, but since it wasn't totally rancid I decided to eat it. The experience was forgettable and very very expensive. My second visit was this past week. Again I ordered the Hamachi Kama and Uni. And again, they had none. This tells me that they don't stock these items, and their clientele is probably leaning towards frat kids looking for crunchy rolls. They offered a piece of Salmon kama, but I could tell it was frozen for quite a while based on the transparency of the meat, and texture of the skin. The flavor was also off, and it was just dry to the bone. Unacceptable. Basically, this place is NOT for people that actually want Japanese cuisine. I hate to bash any Japanese restaurant, but it drives me crazy to see Japanese food defamed and defined by a dumb ass crunchy roll. WTF eats these things?? NOT JAPANESE PEOPLE!!!. Just because you slather mayo and eel sauce over EVERYTHING does not mean it's Japanese food. It's an insult to the actual art of sushi, and actual sushi chefs... and I'm sorry... this place is NOT JAPANESE FOOD, has nothing to do with Japanese food, and if you actually dine here thinking you're experiencing something cultural, you're very very wrong. The prices are extremely high for the quality of food you receive. Both times I spent well over $60 for very little food, and what food I did get was very poorly put together. I'm sad for so many reasons over this restaurant, but also glad that Shiro's is nearby for a real Japanese food fix.

Pros: - Front End * Great, friendly staff * Service is fast Cons: - Back End * Non-sushi dishes are lacking in quality of taste Misc.: - Atmosphere * Warehouse feel mixed with modern and traditional features Best fit: - Meal with friends or quick meal from work

Hate to say it but this place has gone downhill, mostly in the service department... which is a shame because it used to be one of our favorite spots for mid-priced decent sushi. When we walked in, the restaurant was only half full and it didn't appear to be particularly busy. There were two servers running around, but they were preoccupied and, as it turns out, they couldn't multitask and be detail oriented simultaneously. As we awkwardly stood in the doorway, no one acknowledged us... so eventually a sushi chef asked us if we wanted a table he pointed at. Not his job, but sure we did! We sat down and still, no one acknowledged us or brought us menus. No one even screamed the whole "I'll be right there" schpiel as they ran by. I almost got up and got the menus myself, but I thought that would be making too much of a statement. Anyhoo, rude! At this point, we were visibly shifting in our seats, mostly from early onset starvation. I actually asked if we should go somewhere else. The reply was that we're already here, so why not dig ourselves in deeper, right? As we searched frantically for our server, one eventually came over to give us menus. From then on out, the service was quick and our server was very sweet, but our 3 miso soups never came and somehow still ended up on the bill. The sushi quality was still just alright and maybe I haven't been there in so long my memory of the food was too fond, but honestly, the food wasn't as good as I remembered. Even the tea tasted a little acidic. The last nail in the coffin for me was that they were also out of uni, which was one of the only reasons why I was there... That and the presumption of reasonably priced sushi which I would have gladly paid more for if there was a shift in service and food quality. When they brought over the small after-dinner thingy, it wasn't 3 mints or 3 small rice puddings or 3 candies... it was one orange. There were 3 of us, so that was kind of odd. We got a complimentary avocado roll, which was nice, but not enough to salvage all the events leading up to the roll. Alas!

Good lunch time spot. Lots of variety on rolls. They also have good ramen and yaki soba. There bento boxes are also a good lunch. Their spicy chicken, beef, and chicken teriyaki portions are huge if you get them individually!

Great location. Highly over rated sushi spot. Terrible service when I dined in and that was after a really long wait. Then I tried take out and although they double and triple asked me about the items when ordering on the phone the messed up 3 of 5 rolls. Food made me nauseous on the 3rd piece and I can confidently say I'm never going here again!!!!

  • Milivoj M.

Recently stopped in for dinner. The location is great. The place is usually busy, as I walk by almost every day. I was greeted quickly and taken to my seat at the bar. The service was good. They had an extensive sushi roll menu, reasonably priced as well as several other items to order. I went with a couple rolls and yellow tail sashimi. The rolls were OK, but the yellow tail was chewy and perhaps not fresh. Overall the food wasn't great and thus I probably won't go back.

The sushi here is ok. I've tried the harmony roll and the Mt. Fuji roll. Both rolls were really small, so it's good if you are not too hungry. Both rolls were around $11 each. If you are hungry, I would recommend the Bento boxes. For a little over $10, you get a choice of two items, miso soup, 2 pieces of agedashi tofu and some salad. Some items to choose from are yaki soba, teriyaki chicken, california roll, yakiniku, veggie tofu stir fry... The yakiniku is pretty good. There are a few Korean - Galbi (or Korean Japanese fusion) items on the menu. I didn't try them, but I guess that might be why some of the Japanese items started taking on a sweet Korean BBQ flavor. Generally there is a wait during the lunch rush for all the Amazon / SLU / Downtown workers, but quite empty at dinner time.

I came to this place before 12 for lunch with two of my friends. The foods came out late and at different times. It is already 1 hour past since we got here and one guy's dish is not still out. They actually brought the check twice before and we were telling them the last dish is not out yet. Not a good experience.

Very good sushi option in the South Lake Union area. I work downtown and it has become a once-a-week lunch staple for me over the past year. You won't find such a thing as "cheap sushi" - at least in Seattle - but I'm not sure you'd want to either. That said, Mio won't break the bank and I find all of their interpretations of classic rolls to be very tasty. Service is consistently good - and fast. Special recommendations: The "Coco" roll, miso soup

I got there at 11:35 am on a weekday for lunch. It took them 15 minutes + to take my order, we ran out of water, and it took awhile to get the bill. So basically my complaint is on service. The miso was too salty as well.

This is a perfectly mediocre sushi restaurant but it makes an ok lunch spot. My friend and I came here for lunch during the week and both ordered bento boxes. For $10, it came with: -Miso soup -Rice -Salad -Vegetable gyoza (or you could choose tofu) and two entrees. I chose: -Miso salmon -California roll The food all tasted perfectly fine and fresh but nothing special. I think its a decent deal for $10 as well. They seem to have good lunch choices. They had some ramen, udon, yakisoba etc for under $10 as well. I do have to say they had real weird service. We arrived at noon and the waiter kept trying to hurry us to order. We finally ordered around 12:10 and he told us it would be 20-25 minutes because we had waited too long and now there was a lunch rush. He said if we went anywhere else, it would be this long too and this is why he was rushing us earlier. I felt scolded like a child. The food didn't even take that long but it was an awkward encounter. Look you know by peeking in that this isn't the most authentic place in town or anything. It was A-ok.

I would like to tell you about the food here but I didn't get a chance to eat, after waiting a few minutes to be seated we then waited 15 minutes at our table and no one even came to drop off water or tell us that they would be with us soon. We decided to leave and they told us to have a nice day not even noticing that we got up and hadn't ordered or eaten.

I've been to Mio sushi about 25 times between Greenlake and this one (South Lake Union). You can definitely say it's one of my favorite restaurants, if not my favorite. I recommend it to my friends in person and I recommend it to you now. Awesome combination of modern American rolls, along with culture classics. Fish and vegetables are always fresh. All kinds of other entries to satisfy the "sushi-haters" of every friend group (check the menu- it's extensive). Always super quick, even with a semi full restaurant. Me and my girlfriend would be and out in 25 minutes some days. And have had nice conversation! Friendly and sociable staff and chefs. Really clean and nice decor. And best of all, the price. $20 bucks feeds two. Awesome place for a date. Really impressed by their dedication to sustainability. All fish used satisfy the Monterey Bay "best choice" or "Good alternative." Cannot say enough good things, seriously.

I would definitely not recommend this place. The food is below average in that area and it is still pricy. If you don't have other choices, try their appetizer, such as shumai.

Sushi is ok. It's not the best quality and it costs too much, however it will do in a pinch when you have a hankering for sushi. Their Bento box is a pretty good lunch deal though, I always leave full after one. If you do decide to go all in they do have lots of variety of rolls that can be pretty tasty. I just think the money is better spent elsewhere.

I am big fan of sushi and I love exploring new sushi places. I have been here several times as it is very close to my office. I have tried their bento and several standard sushi rolls. The quantity in bento was huge. You get an option to pick and choose from the standard list which I liked the most. I also like their California roll. Most of their standard rolls are just $5 which is amazing. During lunch hours the wait time may take around 30-40 mins but if you doing a Togo order it's within 15 mins. If you are planning to have your lunch here I would suggest coming around 11ish to avoid the long wait.

A large group (20+) for business went to Mio for dinner. They called ahead so that a table section was reserved. If you plan to have a large group, calling ahead will definitely be needed. The place is fairly small. FOOD: The food was really good. The gentleman who was taking us all to dinner order a bunch of different sushi platters, rolls, appetizers and a big bottle of sake. Everything tasted very fresh. The size of the rolls were perfect - just mouth/bite sized. I did notice that all the rolls we got were only crab meat or tuna - no actual fish except for the Sashimi. So that may have just been an order simplicity thing the man we were with did, not sure. The appetizers were good. We had an order of Pork Gyoza and Edamame. The Edamame was really good. It felt a little over cooked, but still delicious. The Pork Gyoza was delicious! SERVICE: The service was really great. For us having such a big party, they made sure all the Sake was being filled and the waters on the table were full. AMBIANCE: Typical of a Mio Sushi, this place was clean, the tables were clean, spacious and we didn't feel packed in there at all. The lighting was bright so it didn't feel like we were in a dark bar and the noise level with that many people was a little higher than usual. I will definitely go here again. I hope to give this place a 4 or 5 once I try more rolls and really have a better feel for the sushi here.

  • Matt S.

Honestly, this is not great sushi and it is definitely overpriced... The rolls we ordered last time were poorly assembled and contained very little fish, the fish that was included was low quality and flavorless - definitely frozen. Their hamachi kama was bland, the worst I've tried. We've had better luck with prepared dishes, like the poke salad, which had nice flavor and also some of the Korean dishes. If you want decent, casual sushi nearby then try I Love Sushi. I don't think we'll return again.

I enjoy a relaxed place, and when I came into Mio, I liked it. It is not a fancy place, but a good place to enjoy some sushi. I ordered too much based on another yelp review, but more is better than not enough, I suppose. I had some inventive rolls, and it was all fresh like sushi is supposed to be. If you are looking for sushi in that area, this is it!

  • Andrew H.

This place is mediocre. Service is good - never had any complaints there. Ambiance is pleasant as well. The food itself is of decent quality, but it is way overpriced for the amount that you get. Also, they are super stingy with their rice here. The bowls contain little more than a golf ball-sized amount of rice. I honestly didn't even know that actual rice bowls themselves were manufactured in such small sizes. The worst part is that they charge you every single time you finish your rice and want more. It's honestly pretty pathetic. I've tried the sushi here and the bento box with the teriyaki. It'll satisfy a minor itch for Japanese food but you'll definitely leave with the sensation that you paid a lot for a small amount of OK food. There really is not much reason to come here unless you are utterly without transportation, are too tired to walk to the superior restaurants in Belltown and Capitol Hill, and absolutely are dying to eat Japanese food.

When Mio Sushi was solely Portland-based, my wife and I would find excuses to drive down from Seattle to eat at the NW 23rd P-Town location. We loved the tenderness of the nigiri/sashimi, the flavorful rolls, and the mild spiciness of the shrimp sushizza. And for the price, the overall dining experience was perfect. We were understandably excited then to see Mio restaurants open in Seattle. The Westlake location has become one of our favorite local sushi spots. The plates are so good and have remained inexpensive when compared to the quality. The staff is consistently prompt, pleasant and courteous as well. Despite what some of the reviews have stated, we're lucky to have Mio Sushi in Seattle and we hope it's here to stay.

Diffident but decent service. The sashimi combo was very, VERY fresh, delicious, and rapidly served. I was happy about the choices--the whitefish or octopus were the possible substitutions. Try to go at an off time. This place gets overrun during mealtimes. It's quiet and has faster service in the early afternoon and after the evening commuters vacate.

One of my favorite lunch spots in South Lake Union. As long as you get there before noon, you can typically be immediately seated. Bento boxes are the way to go unless you really want sushi (pretty good sushi, probably one of the best in the area along with Seastar). Great speed of service, consistent quality of food and reasonably priced for the area and definitely for the generous amount of food you're getting.

    (4)
  • Jamie N.

Mio has delicious, super fresh sushi. My favorites rolls are the Double Crunch and the Oregon rolls. Favorite nigiri is the spicy salmon (realllllly spicy) and the yellowtail. While their food is easily 4 stars, I'm giving them just 3 stars because their service is very slow. Mio is in the heart of the bustling South Lake Union area and it's a hopping lunch spot. They could benefit from adding additional servers and maybe another sushi chef or kitchen staff to help keep things moving. Word to the wise - go before 11:45 if you don't want a line of people out the door!

It was time for lunch and I was hungry for sushi. I happened to be in SLU, so I decided to stop by Mio. They opened about five minutes after I reached their door, so I waited and ended up being the first customer that day. Sat at the sushi bar and only saw a few customers come in during my visit. Their sushi and sashimi combo was.... okay. The uni was great... as uni seems to usually be, in my experience. Lunch ended up costing about $19. Not horribly expensive for a nigiri/sashimi lunch, but... I wasn't super impressed by the food or service, so I'm not very likely to return.

Despite working across the street from Mio, I have stopped eating at Mio Sushi completely. The food is average at best, but what really disgusted me was their claim of servicing sustainable sushi when in practice they do no such thing. Most customers at sushi restaurants do not carry Seafood Watch cards to avoid eating endangered and threatened species, or consuming species with other negative environmental impacts. On the front page of their menu, you'll find claims that they're sustainable, and then the rest of the menu is total lies about this fact. Farmed salmon, freshwater eel, overfished tuna species... If you eat here, realize they are NOT sustainable as they are claiming. You're better served at true sustainable Sushi restaurants, including Mashiko in West Seattle which is 100% sustainable and has much better sushi.

Budget Japanese cuisine. So you get what you pay for! Dine-in service is slooooooow. Food quality is ok, presentation (which is KEY for Japanese cuisines) looks rushed. You're better off driving the extra 5 miles to the Int'l district for authentic Japanese food. If you do plan on trying this place out, I'd recommend coming during lunch (if you can beat the Amazon rush) since you'd get the same size portions as you would for dinner but for less. Majority of the ratings are relative in my opinion since there aren't any Asian, teriyaki-like restaurants around the SLU area. Maybe I'm just bitter that every-time I order rice, it looks like it's been half-eaten!

  • Julia W.

I am not usually a fan of sushi but I have to admit that this place may have won me over with 'other' food they serve. They have kind of a lame happy hour (only about $1 off on appetizers). I had the shrimp tempura and rice which came with a side of rice. It was crisp and delish. One small note: They have sodas listed differently on the menu. One is $1 and one is $1.50-$2. I guess the reasoning is that the $1 is not refillable and served in a can. They warn you when ordering but found to be a bit odd. I appreciate them not charging as much since it's not refillable but odd to have to explain each time. Gets wicked busy during the lunchtime hour so prepared to wait for a table if eating in.

Had sushi here twice now. First time I was there with a coworker and I ordered the inari roll, my coworker ordering some sort of eel roll(not sure which one it was). The inari was alright - it's pretty hard to screw this one up, really - and the eel something roll was alright too, I suppose, as my coworker didn't have anything to say about it. Our server then was a smaller young Asian woman(I think her name was Chelsea) whose face showed very obviously that she did not want to be there. Her tone was very dismissive(or maybe she was distracted, I don't know) and when I asked for a refill of water she took an extremely long time to get back with it even though there were very few other tables in the restaurant. Second time I went with a couple of friends for a late lunch and we ordered some items off of the check-box style menu. I ordered the asparagus roll with a side of salad. The asparagus roll was extremely bland(it was one of the very few options on the vegetarian menu) and waxy. It was quite a disappointing excuse for a vegetarian option - although I guess it was my fault for expecting anything strictly vegetarian from a sushi restaurant(but then why offer it in the first place). One of my friends ordered the Mt. Fuji roll and rainbow roll and didn't have very good things to say about it either. First roll he bit into he described it as "goopey". I could tell from the presentation that it would be extremely overwhelming to eat without making a huge mess and I wasn't surprised to hear it wasn't very good. Didn't have much to say about the rainbow roll though, so there's that, I guess. Other friend ordered a soda and Yakisoba. This was probably the worst dish out of the platters we ordered! The noodles were WAY too over seasoned, it tasted like they fried the noodles in salt and only that - as if they were trying to encompass the flavor of ocean water straight into his dish of yakisoba. So innovative. Yes. I sound bitter because I am. Finding non-belt sushi close to work is hard enough, I don't want to deal with servers with bad attitudes and mediocre sushi while paying an arm and a leg for the bill. Overall- Pros: It's close to work Cons: Service is horrible, food is MEDIOCRE.

Mio is solid. A bit better than the three star yelp rating would suggest. Do I think it's the best sushi in town? No. However, I've been there multiple times and I've enjoyed several of their speciality roles--particularly their Mio roll. The staff always greets me when I walk in the door and the service is prompt. If you are in Southlake Union and don't want to venture too far, or spend a lot of money, Mio is a safe bet.

I tried four random things off the menu and all were some of the best sushi I've had in Seattle since Yoshinobos closed 6 years ago. I highly recommend trying some of their unique rolls. They do a great job of balancing sauce with the fish, so that you can still appreciate the fish while getting a complimentary flavor from the sauce. And the staff is out of this world. It may be because they just opened, but the service made you feel like a rock star in Japan.

Not the best sushi but not the worst. They are friendly, attentive, and clean here. The sushi itself doesn't taste too fresh but it gets a craving out of the way for the most part. I like that they're located near Greenlake. Their rolls aren't cut with finesse, and the price is a little steep. Not too bad though :)

How is it that so many restaurants of this type in Seattle don't offer veggie gyoza? It's always only pork. THIS reason alone is why I went to Mio, they have veggie gyoza! Thank you! Finally! Really good veggie gyoza, really good veggie tempura. Yakisoba wasn't the best Ive had but it was solid. Pretty good service, nice employees. I'll definitely return.

WARNING: Mio adds additional tip to bills paid with credit card! I have waited several weeks to post this review in order to allow Mio to rectify the situation, but I have not received any responses. I went to Mio during lunch just after 1 PM, so the crowd was slowly leaving while we dined. The food was good, as usual, and the service was inattentive and aloof, but I don't generally take service into consideration for places like these. We received the bill and paid with a credit card. My friend signed the merchant copy of the receipt and drew a line where you would write in the tip, and totaled the bill. We then left a 20+% tip in cash and left feeling satisfied with our meal. Five days later, my friend checked his card transactions and found that Mio had charged him an additional $6 over what he had written on the receipt. Our bill was a little over $20, so a $6 tip would have been an almost 30% tip, which we would never have left, given the less-than average service. My friend realized that he had taken the itemized receipt, but not the customer copy of the receipt that he signed (which was not one of those carbon-copy receipts). Needless to say, he has learned his lesson the hard way! ALWAYS TAKE THE CUSTOMER COPY OF THE CREDIT CARD SLIP!!!!

Great sushi!! From New York City and this was delicious. Just the right size rolls to fit in your mouth.

Best to come here at 11 or after 1 because from 12 - 1 its PACKED ! Dont come here if you plan on eating alone during packed hours on the weekday they only have a few single sets at the bar area. You should come with a least one other person to eat at a table. The bento option is cheap around 10$ for 2 combo or 12$ for 3 combo. Comes with a bowl of miso soup and rice. Really affordable and its very decent Japanese food.

I don't understand the negative reviews here. I've been eating at Mio regularly for over a year and I've yet to have a bad experience. The food is always fantastic. The people are so friendly. If I had to point out one flaw is that they can be a little bit slow but seriously? Not worth dropping a rating score. When you go out to eat, you shouldn't ever feel rushed and they do a good job of keeping your drinks full and checking up on you. Honestly, give this place a try. It's really good and so convenient, not to mention inexpensive. Just don't go at lunch time on a week day. You'll never find a seat as it gets pretty packed from the businesses in the area.

Ive only had their rolls here... but GREAT prices, tons of variety, delicious and very clean! Also great presentation! I love how they use real crab meat in most of their rolls in stead of imitation. YUM

I came here for lunch, and seemed to catch the tail end of the rush (lucky!) Because it was the first chilly day of the fall, I decided to get their Mio Ramen, without any meaty additions. The ramen came in a cute iron bowl, and a little bottle of nanami togarashi on the side. The veggies were perfectly cooked, the noodles slightly firm, and everything was tasty - but not POW! this is delicious tasty, more like, yeah...I can totes eat this and enjoy it. I may be used to POW! ramen broth that hits you with its umami flavor... Service was nice, efficient, and I was greeted multiple times when I came in. The atmosphere is sunny and bright, very clean, somewhat modern with a minor Japanese flare.

Mio Sushi is a small northwest chain restaurant that started in Oregon. Their Seattle location takes up one of the contemporary, commercial spaces that are so prevalent in South Lake Union which provides a modern, urban vibe. Mio Sushi's claim-to-fame is low cost, quality sushi from sustainable sources. This is an admirable if seemingly dubious goal. While good food does not have to be expensive, the best quality ingredients are rarely if ever the lowest cost. And while sustainability is an important consideration, especially for sushi, its hard for a great sushi restaurant to only serve sustainable options. What I learned from my experience is this. Sustainable options are available for those people concerned about such issues, but the menu is not limited to these items. Furthermore, Mio Sushi is definitely low cost. This was possibly the least expensive sushi dinner I've ever had in Seattle at about $60 for a large Saki, appetizer, two roles, 14 pieces of nigiri, and dessert. In the end though, my issues with Mio Sushi come down to execution and quality. The temperature difference between the fish and the rice was noticeable, and flavor wasn't as fresh as it should have been. The presentation was fine but not great. The dessert, an outsourced key lime cake, was a big glop that lacked freshness and flavor. The service was simple, unrefined, but effective. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. Mio wasn't terrible but I certainly wouldn't recommend it over Seattle's many much better sushi establishments.

Decent sushi but nothing to write home about. The seaweed salad was a little gross - it was sitting in way too much juice. I went after work, and it wasn't terribly busy when I was there so the food came out fast.

Horrible food. This was my seocnd time here and was giving it a second chance. Wrong decision. Ordered a Chirashi bowl and it came out like a half assed bibimbap. Barely any sashimi and it was pretty much diced up into small pieces. It was sitting on a huge bed of diced wet lettuce on top of rice. The rice was not even prepared correctly. It was straight out of the cooker, not even properly seasoned and prepared (read: plain rice, no flavoring).

I highly recommened to sit by sushi bar to order Omakase with Terry San, you won't be disappointed. He is a very talented and experienced japanese sushi chef in Seattle. I have been following him from two other restaurants and Mio is his 3rd one during the last few years. ( I know it may sound crazy but it worths after I tried other sushi chefs and found out the rolls are too spicy, lacking of favor, making food too slow or being overcharged too much for what i got...) He always prepared the sashimi the right portion & cut plus thickness for us with nice presentation. I also like the sushi rolls from him always good and sometimes very creative. Since the restuarant is very new, they only have most popular fish available at this moment and the sauce tends to be too sweet. Not too many sake selection yet. However, Terry San realized the issues and he is working on them! The decor in the restaurant is very comtemporary and clean. Service from wait staff is prompt. The menu is huge there are lots other hot food available such as raemen. Price is very reasonable and somewhat on the lower end. The only drawback is parking but i guess this is common in Seattle.

Mediocre Japanese with abysmally SLOW service. Waiter tried to convince us to order sushi, explaining that anything else would require 20-25 minutes. Not sure how they'll fare given plenty of superior dine-in and food truck options in the SLU neighborhood. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

Seattle quality with Portland prices! Mio moved into the hood and I had to try it. Lunch bento was great - with shrimp and veggie tempura AND grilled teriyaki salmon (plus all the regular bento goodies) for $7.95. I don't know if you can get a better bento deal in Seattle near downtown. I enjoyed my meal there and will be back!

I don't want to compare the sushi restaurants that serve specialized rolls versus the ones that are more traditional and serve fresh nigiri and sashimi, because, in my opinion anyway, it's a different ballgame. This place has some pretty tasty rolls, hence my 4 star rating. Would I order nigiri from this place? Most likely not. I liked the Mt. Fuji and Mt. St. Helen rolls--basically their "Mt." rolls are pretty good.

I'm so excited for Mio Sushi, or any sushi for that matter, to be in South Lake Union. I went here for takeout lunch today on opening day and thought that the food was great! Two thumbs up. I ordered a bento box with two choices - grilled salmon and California roll. It came with a side salad, rice, miso soup (in a takeout plastic container, and a choice of either two little gyoza or tofu. And, for some reason (?!?), they thought that one scoop wasn't enough so they gave me a container of rice, too. Overall, the food was good especially for all that food for only $9. In terms of service, the waiters and sushi makers were pretty harried but that's probably to be expected on an opening day. I recommend Mio Sushi especially if you work in SLU like me. :) Yum!

I'm sitting here waiting for my food as I type. Was sat and no one waited on us for at least 15 mins. I went up to let them know we were ready to order. But after that they still did not cone to serve us. So I had to vocally request a server to come from my table. Let me just add there was only 1 other table at the moment. And they were already eating. When we were sat no water was given to us. They were out of spicy tuna. I have no idea how a sushi place ruins or if spicy tuna. Only redeeming thing here is the sushi wasn't horrible... the slow service is enough for me too never come back here again.

It's a small chain of fun Japanese joints. Clean and hip. Good food. Great service. Nice atmosphere. I think it's one of the only Japanese joints in that neighborhood. I really appreciate the longer-than-normal menu. Good cheap bento. The super-veggie role is cheap and super-yummy. They have cheap ramen, but I didn't try it. However, as with any Japanese restaurant, the bill can escalate quickly before you know it. (My 101st review of a King County Japanese joint)

My friend and I walked in at 9pm on a Wednesday night looking for some sushi. Our waiter was friendly and the food was good! We split one of the combos and one of the more ambitious rolls off of the sushi menu. Both were really good! And the bill came to around $30 total (no drinks). I'll definitely come back for more.

Recently went back- Ordered a bento box during lunch time. It wasn't even busy as there were empty tables. The order took 45mins- at 45mins I decided I had to leave to get to my meeting. I went up to offer to pay for the miso soup and all they said was that they would comp the soup. Went back the next day- because I believe in second chances. Sushi quality has definitely gone down hill. A sign of a bad sushi place is when all sushi tastes like imitation crab salad. It's a way for sushi businesses to hide their sushi and make it look more bulky with imitation crab salad. Salmon Sashimi was not fresh. It had no bounce or texture to it. Its almost as they had pounded the crap out of the salmon sashimi and stuffed it into the roll. Instead of having a solid chunk of salmon. meh.

Sushi is alright. Ramen is pretty good. Ordering could be done better though, because it's not uncommon for them to totally miss something you marked on the menu. (They totally missed my Nicksan, which was made worse by the fact the waiter didn't ask about the meal before dropping the bill in front of me, unprompted. "No rush" O_o ) Their Gyoza(Jiaozi) is also on the low side of mediocre. They DEEP fry them! (Such a pot-sticker faux-pas! :-\ ) So, go for the ramen or noodles. If you want sushi, recite your order to the server's face so they don't miss anything. More info (SPECIFIC info on individual food items). After reading some pretty mixed reviews, I wasn't too excited about coming here for lunch. Glad we did, however, as the sushi and the service turned out to be good. I ordered the sushi/sashimi combo and my fish was all fresh and tasty. The miso soup accompanying it was nice and flavorful, not watered down as it often can be at other places. Despite being packed, we had attentive service for our table of 6. Everyone else at my table was pleased with their options as well. Lastly, the food was all beautifully plated. Have I had better sushi in Seattle? Yes. Is this a favorite? No. But I would say it's definitely a pretty good option.

Do not go here if in a rush, or even if you have plans for the rest of the day. Food is good, but you will wait and wait for it. The yakisoba was pretty good, but didn't blow me away and I waited for almost an hour for it. We also had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for 6. The lunch crowd hits the place hard, so try to get in before 12 or after 1:30. The soup was entirely forgettable.

First Stumptown, and now Mio--I'll never need to go home to Portland now. Between the three of us, we probably ordered way too much food--yet somehow there wasn't a scrap of rice left on our plates. We had Unagi and Hamachi nigiri, and the following rolls: spicy white tuna, Mt. Fuji, Kanihama, Yellowtail, Tempura roll, and I think a couple of other ones thrown in there. All of the fish was super fresh. I could have eaten plate after plate of Hamachi and would have left happy. I wouldn't order the Mt. Fuji again though; I don't like uncooked salmon, but love cooked salmon, so thought that the Mt. Fuji roll would be nice to try, but it had way too much mayonnaise on it--especially considering that salmon is already so oily. The simpler and more traditional rolls are the way too go. Service was friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. Our tea was refilled frequently and we felt well taken care of. The decor is a little sterile (I prefer the tiny Victorian house in the Alphabet District) and looks a lot more like a lunch spot than a dinner place. Mio is definitely going to give Maneki and Umi a run for their money.

I'm generally caught off guard when I read a Yelp review that provides details like "slow service," "harried staff," or "decent/not great" food, but they still give it 3-4 stars. So, I'm going to call Mio Sushi like I see it (and like the 2 star rating says): "Meh. I've experienced better." Went in during their first week in SLU. Unbelievable wait for a table, which isn't their fault. People want sushi in SLU and it's lunch time. Unbelievable wait for a server to bring water, take drink orders (8+ minutes). OK, it's their first week; they're getting things ironed out. Next up, a 25+ minute wait for food that did not require cooking (several roll options and some nigiri). Again, chalk it up to the learning curve. But the kicker was the sushi itself...bland, flavorless, and/or stale ingredients (how can you screw up the seaweed?). Second trip back, two weeks later, hoping they've worked out the kinks: still incredibly slow service, still not really sure who my waiter was since there were 2-3 people stopping by our table at random intervals, still a long wait for food (again, coming about 20 minutes after ordering), and still not great sushi (different rolls, same result). Today: 3rd time's the charm, right? They've been open for more than a month, the onslaught of sushi-crazed SLU workers has died down a bit, and today I didn't have to wait for a table. Yet, we still waited more than 10 minutes to order, and another 20+ for all of our food (for three people total: two avocado rolls, a spicy tuna roll, two bowls of Udon, and a bento box with beef). If the majority of the time I spend away from the office during lunch is just sitting in a booth listening to Boyz II Men's "On Bended Knee" (seriously Mio Sushi...a chain from Portland playing bedroom R&B from the 90s...you can't do any better?) instead of actually enjoying my meal before going back to work, then please at least blow me away with the quality of the product you serve. I like that it's supposedly sustainably caught fish and I like that it's the only real viable sushi option in SLU. But, after three near fails, I'll continue to go to the places that have great fresh fish AND prompt service (Moshi Moshi, Aoki, Chiso, hell...Sam's...I'm looking at you). It's just too bad I can't get to a single one during lunch. Back to Whole Foods deli I go...

I saved my 300th review for this awesome lunch spot. With a few sushi options in the area, I gave this place a try since it was the closest one to work. I browsed the menu online and was prepared to give my to-go order when I arrived right as they opened at 11. I ordered a bento box with teriyaki chicken and a cali roll for a grand total of $9! It came with a lot of food including two veggie gyozas, miso soup, salad, and rice. They have a bunch of options to choose from as well. My order was done within 10 mins and I was off. The teriyaki chicken was a bit charred, but still pretty good. The gyozas and soup we really good, but my favorite was the Cali roll. I know for all you sushi people this is the most boring basic roll ever, BUT it was still super fresh and really tasty. They even give you about 10 rolls which is a nice bonus! Overall I am very impressed with the value of their bento box selections. For $9 how can you go wrong!? I will make this a weekly lunch trip!

If this was in any other location - I'd expect it to go out of business. The hoards of Amazon employees keep this place busy. The food is bland and generally of low quality. If you want better sushi go across the street to Shilla (on Denny) yelp.com/biz/shilla-kore… or just pick your sushi up at the Wholefoods counter.

  • Casey Y.

Price is good and the ingredients aren't bad either. The technique for making these rolls are kind of embarrassing- Some of the rolls fall apart if touched. Their bigger, and more unique rolls do this, along with their nigiri (which is unacceptable). Maybe it's because I'm Japanese, but I have a standard, and it isn't being met. Oh, they also forgot water- and didn't bother to ask about tea (which everybody else somehow got). The folks next to us had to track down a waitress for their order to be taken. If there isn't enough staff, they shouldn't be taking more customers. Over time, their service will get better- but for now it's a 2 out of 5 sad sad stars.

This restaurant is exactly what this area needed. The sushi here is great for the price. The lunch bento is a fair amount of food for about $11 after tax and tip. If you are doing the bento I generally prefer the gyoza over the agedashi tofu. I also tend to switch the california roll for a different roll, the simply charge you the difference. I usually get the spicy salmon maki which is quite good.

Came here for lunch on Thursday and surprised by how busy this place is! Ordered Mt. Rainier roll, Philly Roll, California Roll, and sunset roll. This was a lot for 2 people! Note to self next time: only order 2-3 types of rolls next time for just two people. Prices here were average. Ingredients were very fresh and tasty and the ratio of rice to sashimi and other ingredients were equal. Place seemed authentic. Servers there were very friendly and attentive. Presentation of the sushi was excellent. Felt that the tables that seated 2 people were all placed too close together and felt that the people sitting next to me were so close that we might as well be having lunch WITH them. I was so close to the people near me that i could have stretched and been able to touch the people sitting to the left and right of me. Would come back here again but at a time that wouldn't be as busy. Might try the bento box next time along and would definitely order the Mt Rainier roll again (yum).

Clean. Fair prices. Kind staff. Decent/quality ingredients. I wouldn't really "complain" about the happy hour as their prices are already pretty darn affordable. I'm not a huge fan of the modern, crazy creative rolls and keep it simple. They have both to appease either person. I'm pretty sure a "sushi snob" would not like this place based on appearance (modern/trendy interior) but honestly, don't know it before you try it. you might be pleasantly surprised. good sushi does not always have to come from a non-discrete hole in the wall.

Just what SLU needed... another sushi place. Oh wait, a sushi place is exactly what SLU needed! Finally! Since I've watched this place develop from nothing I decided to go grab food on opening night. That can be a risky venture, but overall it was really smooth sailing. Everyone working there was fantastic, as was the sushi. Their happy hour, between 4-6 has some good deals, including the amazing volcano roll! I'm also so happy to have zaru soba mere steps from my front door! Is this heaven?!

I went there a week after it opened up; my entire party had one conclusion: this place is going to close down soon, and let's hope another sushi place will open at the same location because ANY sushi place will be better. The sushi rice was not seasoned properly, the seaweed was moist and the cook dishes taste more like Korean than Japanese; I personally think the sushi at wholesfood is better. It has been over a year, and I'm amazed this place is still in business. I guess it proofs that any business in the heart of amazon can survive. Oh, did I mention I had a stomach ache all three times I tried this place?

I really wanted this place to be good, especially since we live nearby. This was my first time back in about a year. Thought we'd give it one more chance for the happy hour specials. Unfortunately, it was the worst meal I've had there. Bottom line: this place has mediocre sushi. The rice is flavorless, the fish is not smooth and buttery, and the rolls are just blah. If you want good happy hour sushi, head over to I Love Sushi or Umi Sakehouse.

The food is just okay - not great, not bad. I belong to a group that has their monthly dinners here, and we are in the process of selecting a new location because the service is so awful. I have had to ask multiple times on multiple visits for things such as silverware, napkins, and water. Have had to ask for water even when I'm not having another drink - the staff are nice enough but are extremely forgetful, very slow, and seem disorganized. I would not have returned if it weren't for our monthly group dinners.

Echoing some of the other reviews - this place is "A-OK".. Not amazing, not terrible. I thought the food was fairly good, but nothing to get excited about. The staff was nice, but the overall ambience reminded me of a fast-food joint.

This is a slight step above the sushi you can get from safeway. The food lacked flavor and for the price I would have been happier going elsewhere. The server was nice, but unfortunately he can't compensate for mediocre food.

Quality sushi, fair price. I walked in at noon for a to go order and waited about 15 minutes. Not too bad for during their lunch rush. Next time I'll call ahead. Lunch Special (tuna roll, California roll and cucumber roll) was very filling and a better deal than the Whole Foods offerings next door.

Just had a quick, small, late lunch with a couple pieces of Nigiri, a roll and miso soup. The Yellow Tail was tough (had to eat the whole piece at once, as I couldn't bite it without making a huge mess), but the Tuna was perfect. The Negihama roll was simple and perfect. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and when they accidentally brought me an extra roll, they told me not to worry, but to enjoy it and that I wouldn't be charged. The service was slower than expected. I sat at the bar, which is usually quicker, but it was slow, especially given that there had to be 12 or more people working there at the time (3-4 sushi chefs, a couple people in the hot kitchen, at least 4 servers, a host and whoever else was in the kitchen). Also, either the owner of the chain or a senior manager of some kind was there... I would have liked him to stop by and welcome me since there were only 2 other people there at the time, but maybe I'm just being vain. The restaurant seems quite small for a lunch spot in South Lake Union these days. I'm concerned they will have a very long wait during the lunch rush. They do, however, have a series of tables along the window which seems like it will be able to accommodate a rather large group of about 20 people. Not sure if they'll offer reservations. The space is very clean and modern looking but not cold. The bright white and splashes of color fit in nicely with the neighborhood. Even the TVs, which usually drive me crazy in restaurants, were a welcome feature. It was a darn good showing for day 2 of business. I guess the experience of all their other restaurants came in handy! I will be back soon!

Their sushi (nigiri and rolls) are really sub-par. The problem is their rice is too bland (not enough vinegar and sugar) which makes any sushi you have there just taste really bland. Their nigiris are very reasonably priced, but you get what you pay for. The albacore was super dry. The one nigiri that was good was their yellowtail....well the fish was good - the rice was just off.

I've added this place to my Asian restaurants in SLU list. This place can get pretty packed during lunch, so go slightly before 12pm if you want a table. Their decor is Japanese modern and appears quirky. Their menu seems okay, really typical for any Japanese restaurant (that's not a teriyaki joint) you'd step foot in. I haven't had anything spectacular that's stuck out so far, but the bento box is worth my lunch visits. The wait staff is nice, but they appear happy yet flustered at times during lunch. You can also order to go if you don't want to wait for a table.

I really wanted to like Mio Sushi, but it was just OK. The ambience was good and the place was nice and quiet, but the food was lacking and on the pricier side. A+ for service--our server was attentive and polite. If you're just looking for decent sushi without having to trek outside of SLU, then Mio fits the bill.

I rarely post reviews but felt the need after my first dining experience at Mio Sushi. I live in SLU and really was (still am) rooting for this place. Positives were proximity, very friendly, attentive service, and tea (though genmaicha is hard to screw up). The only negative was unfortunately most of the food - not fishy or anything, just not very good. I honestly think I would rather eat grocery store sushi. While I did like the pretty inexpensive price, I didn't like getting what I paid for. agedashi tofu: tofu was nicely fried with a good texture, but the dipping sauce tasted like watered down teriyaki sauce rather than typical agedashi sauce. California roll: ok flavor, i think fake crab, zero texture - mushy, no onion or cucumber or anything in it to make it a bit more interesting/pleasant. Seattle roll: actually real crab but with no flavor and kind of dry; liked the asparagus; had to kind of chew through the salmon sashimi on top. shrimp tempura roll: ok but one of the slices literally had a tail and 3 mm of shrimp total. best roll we tried. veggie ramen: came in a cute ceramic pot with noodles, broth, and some sliced veggies - noodles and veggies were good, but the broth was very dark, sweet, and not really something I felt an urge to drink much of (as one would plan to do for most noodle soups). Now I'm feeling like a whiner; this review was honestly not meant to dissuade people from trying Mio; I like that the majority of other comments were satisfactory/excellent, so hopefully this was an off night or they can just work out the kinks and get tastier.

Ordered their Mio Ramen, a bowl beef ramen. Beef came out as beef thunk that tasted like rubber. Soup extremely salty without much favor with barely any vegetable in it. Hot tea is not hot at all...the bill came out to be $11.50 for a bowl of beef ramen. What a ripeoff...
