BIG thumbs up to this place!!!! They have amazing prices on food! And good food, like really really good food! We started with the deep fried pickles - which were actual spears, and deep fried perfectly. Not too much breading, but a nice crumbly crunch, with a side of this awesome homemade ale mustard. My boyfriend and I split the Jalapeno Caesar salad, huge portion and REALLY good dressing, along with an order of The Double Royal sliders. Our friends got the Oyster sliders and those were huge! The oyster looked so yummy! They also have a killer happy hour for food. And their beer - ALL amazing! The Islander Pale Ale and the Pilsner were both excellent! Great atmosphere, pretty quick service. A+ on the food and drinks! I was very impressed and highly recommend you check this place out if you haven't yet!

i should be writing a 5-star review because this has been one of my favorite places for 12 years as i really like the beers, but the service has gone downhill rather steadily for quite some time. 2 weeks ago a blonde waitress totally screwed up our orders and it was hard to even get a beer from her. i chalked it up to just a bad night but man, bad service kinda killed our night at the Maritime. a week later, we're back and she's incredibly slow with the beers, screwed up our dinner and served us food we didn't order, then she promised us free beers because we are waiting so long for just some french fries and sliders, and then never even brought them and then never took our other two beers off the check since she never got us the free beers she promised. what awful service. if you can't bring us the food we ordered or just 2-4 beers during dinner, then we won't be back.....which is lame because the beer is good and so is the food.....we have loved this place for over a decade, but treat us like crap and promise us 2 free beers which you never brought, and there's absolutely no reason to come back....unless you fire the blonde chick, find a few servers that are actually competent and invite us back for those 2 Free beers.

First time visit to check out their home brews, food and atmosphere. I have to admit it was a little less upscale than I had a mental picture of, but it was homey and no complaints at all. The beer sampler (5 oz x 5 choices) was very cool, since I liked them all to varying degrees, and they note which ones are which under each one so you know what you're drinking. The Big Boy 1/2 lb burger was the best I'd had in years, and the orange-chocolate cheesecake for dessert was delicious! I also had the Caesar salad was good, but not as exceptional as the rest. The waiter was nice and attentive. What more can you ask? The nicest part about my visit was being able to buy the beer I liked best by the 6-pack or case to go! I will definitely come back in the future with friends.

Yeah, we ended up coming in here and was sarcastically greeted by the bartender... not sure what his problem was. The beer was actually pretty decent, but for me, customer service outweighs the food or drink because to matter how good those are, the dining experience can be ruined by the atmosphere. Planning on eating here because the food looked and smelled great, but decided to move on to another pub in the area with friendlier staff. Probably won't be back in again.

I love Maritime, amazing beers, but this was my first time actually at the brewery. The dining area is like any you'd expect at a brewery, great beers, and the food is great. I had the mahi mini's and they were amazing. Should be on everyone's Seattle Brewery must go.

The beers are killer. They've got all sorts- dark burly beers- light girly beers- and everything in between. This is the one brewery I know I can bring my wife and she'll find more than one beer she'll like. The food is super good- best brewery food I have ever tried. Had a really terrific Ceviche this weekend- came with a deep fried avocado ($9). And the food is good value- got a killer steak and sides for under $20. The mussels and clams for $9 is one of the best values in the city. The service is always friendly and the seating outside when the weather is nice is hard to beat. Loads of street parking. I'd give these guys 6 stars if I could. I think this place is excellent. Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyed. We stopped by here after a long ride with a serious need for a snack, and Maritime nailed it. First: the beer. Oh... the beer. I had the Flagship Red, and found it to be astounding. I mean, really, this is one amazing red ale. I've only had their bottled stuff before this, so I guess maybe I'm a little bias. But seriously, try the Flagship Red! Snack-wise, we went with the mahi sliders, 3 of them for like about $8. I'm expecting lots of fluff and little fish, you know how sliders go... but, alas, a serious chunk of fresh-tasting mahi with just a touch of savoy cabbage light tangy sauce. Right. On. Better than pretty much every slider I've ever had. Plus the house sauce, what ever it might have been, spicy and delicious for sure. Ambiance and service were fine, I kinda like the vibe, and it wasn't very busy, but still kinda loud, dunno, echo or something, and sitting waiting to get the check squared for a while, cause, you know, conversations or whatever with colleagues, it's cool, I get it... shouldn't be in a hurry anyways really. Overall, solid 4 I'd say. Great beer, solid food, really decent prices [$5 blackberry crisp a la mode, $3 pints for happy hour (not on weekends)]. I'd go back for sure for a tasty snack and beer, anytime. Thanks for listening!

Great Beer. Food was awesome. I recommend the jalapeno caeser salad. The pirate themed bar is cool too.

They've got some fantastic beers here. I'm a huge fan of their porter, and the place has a nice atmosphere. Some pretty awesome fried food, too (try the deep fried bacon if you're feeling bold).

This place is at least 4 stars. While visiting, I got a pointer from a local to check out the "Jolly Release Party" at their taproom. Stopped in and sampled the bourbon barrel aged Jolly Roger Christmas Ale. Very different, very tasty. I was impressed. I'd like to try more of their beers and see if 5 stars is warranted.

Yet another review of a great local beer and taproom. Maritime is down the street from my girlfriends place and even though she has been there many a time, I have never. We decided to go for a late dinner and beer. The non decrepit outside fits into the industrial part of the area, but inside is completely different. Nice oak bar and counter, chairs and tables and a decor to fit. We weren't completely starving but need a little something. The mini burgers hit the spot. I ordered the special which was a mini double burger with green chillies, pork verde and pepper jack. My girlfriend ordered the lil' veggies that didn't taste bad at all. In fact they were really good as well. The kicker was the large order of Smokers, which is hand-cut onion rings smoked with apple wood and hops, double breaded and fried. Served with a roasted jalapeno tartar sauce. These were one of the best onion rings I ever had. 1 1/2" cut ring, perfect crusty batter and the rings actually separated when you bit into them. They did not pull apart. Awesome! Cap all that with a Bosun's Black Porter on nitro and I was in food heaven!

I say 3 1/2 out of 5. i've been here three separate times over the course of a year, and each time is a fun little event in my own personal history. First time: first date with a fella - thanks, Maritime, for helping me to realize that this fella was not The One for me when he quickly mentioned that he hated bacon, upon my delightedly noticing that they served beer-battered bacon. I ordered the fried oyster sliders and two beers - fried oysters that I dream of, beer that I'm ambivalent about. Second trip: went with a group of friends, one of which was visiting from Alaska. Service was great, food was tremendous. Helped to seriously impress my out-of-town friend and continued to impress my local Seattlite friends. Beer was good - it was summer, and they had a rockin' oatmeal pale. Delicious. Third trip: Ehhhhhhhh. Ordered entrees and not sliders for the first time, and I regret it. I think they had a special German menu (it was around Oktoberfest) going, and I wish I hadn't ordered off of it, because the food was extremely sub-par. Beer was fine. I'll definitely be back - 2/3 ain't bad.

This is a more traditional or "sit down" brewery where you can get a table and have a meal with your beer of choice. I tried a couple of appetizers and they made me think that the food is probably not too shabby.

I'm a fan of the food not the service. I have been here a handful of times and I do have to say that they are definitely consistent. Food is ALWAYS good, SERVICE is ALWAYS meh (different face, same story). Try the Mahi Mahi sliders, Beer Battered Bacon (to die for...share with a group) or Lil' Royals, oh and The Cuban is also good. I will be back for sure for the amazing food and sauces.

I'm torn on this place, but I must go with "I've experienced better." Sorry Maritime. I wanted to heart you. Really I did. Plus: $3 pints during happy hour. Minus: Everything else. I really wanted to like this place as I just moved five minutes away. Can't say it registers in my top 50 breweries. Cheap happy hour pints are excellent. Can't beat $3 a pint. However, the beer is average at best; their double-hopped (why?) and regular IPA are unbalanced, syrupy, and not easy to drink. Service should have been better at 3:45 on a Monday. Delayed greeting. Delayed service. Waited too long for offer of refill. Clientele during happy hour is "interesting." One guy using the f-word for every effing adjective for half an hour. Others not very social until their regular group arrives, then they're slamming their fists on the bar on every other syllable, just for emphasis, you know. Wait staff is more interested in talking with each other than with paying customers. Lots of whispering and conferences between the staff. Food is substandard for Seattle brewery scene. Several breweries and non-breweries have better menus, and better beer. Atmosphere. Where to begin? Cheese much? If you want to eat outside, you're looking at U-Haul trucks across the street and listening to jackhammers or some other sort of generator-driven powermachine. Good luck talking out there! Yeah, the decor, location, and clientele leave much to be desired, but... Did I mention $3 happy hour pints?

I'm giving this place 5 stars because of the onion rings & beer! Wow, they really are the best. They have large portions and great prices. Plus their growlers are super cheap to fill! Awesome place!! Old Seattle Lager is a definitely a winner in my book.

Really liked this place and can't wait to visit again once it warms up. The beers were good, the service was fine, and although we didn't eat whole meals, the apps we ordered were good (my husband is obsessed with the fried pickles). Really good atmosphere and a homey feel. I'll come back!

Maritime makes a great variety of beers and everyone should be able to find something that matches their palate. Their seasonals are fun and I like when they play with extra hops in their normal brews. The food is great here. I almost always go for the onion rings. Nice patio when the weather cooperates. Random Fact: Maritime's old brewing equipment now lives in Austin, TX at the Austin Beerworks brewery.

Three words for you. Beer Battered Bacon. The beer is good as well. And the onion rings are legendary. The sliders are a good choice so you can have room for the bacon and the onion rings.

So I suppose you could say that the "Brewing Co" listing is more for the beer, whereas the Jolly Roger Taproom listing is for the place to go hang out and eat and drink. Alright, That's cool. Let's set up this review as being just for the beers. MP makes a decent lineup of ales. There are IPAs, APAs, DIPAs, and the deservedly legendary Jolly Roger Christmas Ale, among others. Their lagers are usually a little on the buttery side (that's a brewing flaw caused by hurrying beer into the kegs before it's ready), but the ales are generally delightful. The Flagship was a go-to six-pack beer for me in my 20s for quite a while. The Jolly Roger is maybe Seattle's most famous Christmas beer after Pyramid's Snow Cap, but IMO is probably the superior beer. They often put their fine ales on cask as well as on regular carbonated taps, but let's save that conversation for the taproom review.

We had heard the place was small so I ran in before my party of 6. I was delighted to see one group of 6 leaving and two small tables we could possibly put together. I gave the crew a thumbs up and the waitress straightened the table. Just as she finished another group came in and promptly pushed past me to get to the table. Damn my NW passive aggressiveness! I offered one feeble "Hey!" as they stoically ignored me and set up shop. The waitress was displeased that two groups had decided to visit the establishment. She sighed when I explained that- no, those people ignoring me and sitting at the table were not my friends & set up one of the smaller tables. Pleasant service from her all night- ha! Despite this initial obstacle, we got a pitcher and perused the menu. Whoa! Those are some hefty dinner prices. 14-18 for some ok sounding options. We thought we were going to a brewery. Lunch prices looked much more decent, but no good when you are there for dinner. We ended up sharing some plates of onion rings which were awesomely tasty. Good price, hefty, tasty sauce, and enough to share. The other server, the guy, was quite friendly and helpful. I liked the decor of pirates before even heading in and while deco is obviously not a priority, it worked. A table behind us was friendly and the visit ended "A-ok", not "Me thinks not". I was hoping for better, but it was ok.

Connected to the Jolly Roger Taproom, I was thrilled and priveleged to take a tour of this brewery. No, it's not big. But it made my day to get my picture taken with the Jolly Roger Christmas Ale that they make here. It's my favorite seasonal beer ever!!! Thanks to Matt and Maritime for making my new life in Seattle awesome and for helping me find the best beer in Seattle!

The food here is great for a brewpub type setting. I have yet to have anything I disliked....they have the best sliders (MAHI!!). Their happy hour specials on food are also very well priced. The beer, well I have had better but also have had far worse...the double hopped IPA is really good and has a nice and high ABV%. Only issue would be the service at times when they are busy. Not really anywhere to wait and have a drink (assuming the bar is full, which is typical). However, I'm not really a person to review poorly because a place is busy and doing well for themselves. I guess slower service means more time for beers? Never a bad thing!

This is a nice place to have a drink or two after work, but the food was so-so. I should have tried their sliders since everyone around me seemed to be digging into them. Instead we had the happy hour menu and we ordered the kalbi ribs, beer battered bacon, spinach salad and the huge onion rings. The fried stuff like the beer battered bacon and onions rings didn't taste very good. Usually anything fried would be great, but the batter they used seemed under-salted. I couldn't taste the pepper on the bacon, I think the bacon slice was too thin to be battered. I was also shaking salt on everything. I loved the spinach salad, lightly tossed in dressing and a huge serving for happy hour. The kalbi ribs had nice flavor to them but it was overcooked and dry. The curry dip that came with the ribs was the saving grace, I dipped everything into it. Can't complain much, our bill ended up being $25 for 2 beers and four plates of Happy Hour food that fed 2.

OHHH GOOD LORD!!! Good: -Happy hour 3-6 mon-fri with $4 apps and half salads (half? more like whole!) -The food at this place is out of control delicious!!!!! Ended up getting the H/H (happy hour) ceaser salad. OMG it was good, smoked jalapeno caesar dressing with some kinda cheese and some tortilla strip things. Deep fried ravioli had some delicious stuff in it, and served with a home made pesto...not the horseradish/yogurt which i was thankful for. They had a special that i hope they keep...the MEATBALL FROM HELL! a huge delicious spicy meatball with cheese served as a slider...mmmmmm -Beer Is Delicious, one of the best ipa's around. -decor is really cool, the floors are painted as a huge pirate map! Bad: -I can honestly say I have not experienced a single bad thing with this place yet!

The Nightwatch should be my go-to beer. Smooth, drinkable, and reliable. But sometimes I try the Red alt, which to me, will vary in bitterness from visit to visit. I'm told that's not possible (although one staff member said they'd noticed the same thing); but sometimes I like it, and other times, it's very hoppy. Anyway, I will still chance it, especially if it's on cask or nitro. I just wish it was more consistent. I really liked the maibock, and I hope they have it again next spring. The waitstaff is usually excellent. There are a few who are kind of goofy, but for the most part, they give damn good service. When some friends and I were in a few months back, they were out of 64oz growlers. I don't understand why they didn't just buy plain, BLANK growlers in the meantime? Yesterday, we bought a new one (for only $2!!) up at the brewers supply on Greenwood Ave N, so surely they brewery could have done the same. I won't get into the food, as I've reviewed the Jolly Roger separately, but it is excellent. Disappointing lunches are very rare, and are most often swoon-worthy. And now, they have a happy hour, woo hoo! If there's one thing I wish, it's that the IBUs would be listed on their menu. Rogue and Redhook do it, and it makes it much easier for me to choose what to drink.

The porter was smoky and went down smooth. The onion rings were impressive and the sauce was perfect for dipping. The phily sandwich def has a spicy kick to it. The fried pickle was just Ok. Servers are nice but the service was slow

The ambiance is rather cold, even though they have an awesome floor of maps and a pirate theme throughout. The space is very large and there is so much they could to with it, but I wasn't impressed. They were out of about 5 beers that we wanted to try and our waitress was nice, but very slow. The food was totally underwhelming and honestly zero options for anyone who doesn't prefer eating meat. I ordered the mahi sliders and the huge portion of fries that were served alongside the two sliders were good, but definitely gave my stomach an ache later in the day. The sliders were served with a weird cabbage slathered in mayo called a "slaw" but there was nothing slaw about it beyond it having cabbage as the main ingredient. The jalapeno tartar on the side was also not very good. I tried the deep fried dill pickles as well and was not impressed. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but I doubt I would get food again there.

All I can say is YUMMY! WOW, I was soo impressed by the new menu! I went in tonight with my boyfriend and we ordered the duck app and the mussle and clam app! Well lets just say there was a party in my mouth, HOLY COW! the Duck was cooked to perfection and the dried fruit was infused with the duck fat and can I say GOOD LORd it was perfect! I'm from ballard so seafood is part of my everyday and I have to say I have NEVER had clams and mussles that were cooked so well and the flavor was out of this world! As for the main dishes we ordered the halibut and the chicken dishes! the chicken was so good and rich (but not too rich you can't eat the whole thing :) ) and the veggies were a perfect pairing! The Halibut was a party in my mouth, with just the right amount of spice that it didn't over power the fish! PLEASE go check out the new menu! A++++++ all around!

We stopped in here as the last part of our tour from walking around the Fremont area. We stopped in for just one pint a piece. The place looked pretty new. Looked as if the paint was still drying. The server we had was pretty nice and helped us with getting on the right bus to get back downtown. It is located in a light industrial area with not much else around it. We found nothing wrong with this place but nothing spectacular. I'd stop in and give it a try I were in the neighborhood.

I took a group of customers from out of town to dinner here last night. We started off with a an order of lil jolly royals (amazing sliders with a side of habenero BBQ sauce) followed by 3 choices off of the happy hour appetizer menu (spare ribs, curry chicken, and yes we had to order the deep fried bacon) plus a couple pitchers of some of the best craft beer. When the subject of ordering dinner came up, we opted to order three entrees (there were six of us) and eat it family style- it was perfect, from their Octoberfest inspired menu (entree menu changes every month I believe). We shared the scallops, veal, and a combo platter of assorted sausages, peppers and vegetables. It is easy to tell that everything is made fresh from scratch, so good. Everything was great, as always!

I'm doing a separate review for Maritime Pacific Brewing vs combining it all into my review of the Jolly Roger taproom. Reviewing them on the beer, to me, is necessary to distinguish from the pub experience. In my opinion, some of the finest ales made in the Seattle City limits come from Maritime. Unless you want to count Big Al's and Baron as being in Seattle proper, Maritime takes it. My first ever taproom experience was in the Jolly Roger taproom, so this place will always hold a special place in my heart. As I was a budding baby beer snob at the tender age of 21, I was dragged to this brewery on a visit from Florida, and was poured my first pint of fresh, made on site beer. I visited again a year later on another visit, and wasn't as impressed with the beers, so it took me a long while to warm back up to them after I had moved here shortly after that. The lineup of beers is extensive, and rotating. Every time I go there is something new available. To this day I have not found a specific beer that I was not a fan of. The beers for the most part are english, and pacific northwest inspired ales. No trendy belgian or other recent big hits, just the classic styles that have been tried and true since the craft revolution started. The only beer I can't categorize there also happens to be my favorite, the Nightwatch. Malty, dark, and smooth. There are few beers I've ever had that match up with a pub meal better than this. There are always cask options available, most notably their IPA casks, and their famous Jolly Roger. I highly recommend at least sampling these offerings when available. I have one complaint and one only about the beers, and that's on the consistency. I've noticed over the years a fluctuating quality, most notably from my second visit here that I had mentioned earlier in this increasingly lengthy review. Some times you will have some of the finest tasting beer you can remember, others you'll be left wondering why it's not as good as you remember. But I think the good makes up for the bad. You can find their beers at many local grocery stores and retail locations, but I highly suggest scooting over to their taproom and getting it fresh from the source. My highest recomendations are the cask pours, the Nightwatch, and the Flagship Red. This is the one of the two classic Seattle Breweries I can strongly recommend. Far too many of the places that have been around for a few years make boring, bland beer that was only impressive 15yrs ago. Not the case here.

Maritime, I love your beer, I love your fries, but your bumbling waiter saved your ass tonite. 7 guys on a Wednesday, you'd think a bar could handle that, somehow your kitchen turned into a disaster and the bumbling waiter comped us enough beer to make this into a decent rating. The fries were that same great quality, and the beer was superior, but to have a guy wait 30 minutes longer than the rest of his party to eat, cruelty. This was the same waiter that earlier in the night didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. He saved you and for that, I'll return. Oh and you allow kids now. Good job.

This place, maybe because it's been around for a zillion years, kinda gets lost in the shuffle; it's no longer the Flavor of the Month. And that's a REAL shame because, beer for beer, IMHO, there is hardly anyone in the Seattle area making better, more thoughtful, more intensely-flavorful ales than Maritime Pacific. At Beveridge Place Pub, during the recent opening ceremonies for Seattle Beer Week, Judye and I sat with a line-up of all eight featured ales from breweries all over the area. I can't hope to remember them all but Trade Route's Sour Mango, Schooner Exact's Three-Grid IPA, Elliott Bay's Bourbon Cask Stout, Elysian Prometheus, and Pike's Double IPA were among 'em. And the clear winner, to both of us, was the Maritime Bosun's Black Porter. All were interesting and very drinkable but the Bosun's was just seamless; bold, balanced, complex, and silky. It tasted, among those ales brewed especially for Beer Week, like something with finesse, history, and pedigree. Their winter seasonal, Jolly Roger, has always been among my top three regional Christmas ales (along with Deschutes "Jubelale" and Hair of the Dog's "Doggie Claws") and their Flagship Red, IMHO, is the Northwest's second-best red/amber, behind only Mac & Jack's African. With all due respects to Baron Brewing, their Old Seattle Lager is the best lager I know of in this area and the Nightwatch Dark Amber is just a revelation every time it's brewed - toasted flavors galore, gently hopped, and filled with smaller grace notes that keep me interested for two or three refills. Their brewpub, too, is the least pretentious and most comfortable brewery-run pub in the state. It's intimate - well, small, really - but not cramped and has that homey Ballard vibe about it that makes you settle in nicely for what is surprisingly good pub grub. It's especially great (for reasons that seem to be sort of spiritual and visceral and aren't easily put into words) in cold weather, around Christmas. Can't tell you why but, after the weather turns, Maritime is where I want to sit with friends and share great beers.

We just went for the beer, so I can't comment on the food. We tried the sampler of beer, it was okay. Not amazing but pretty solid all around. The place seemed like a locals hang out, and we weren't locals so we didn't feel entirely comfortable.

My wife and I took our 2 young boys in for dinner around 5:30 tonight. There were about 5 or 6 other kids in the brewery. Admittedly, none anywhere near as loud as my 11 month old. He was banging his sippy cup on his rubber place mat and was pretty vocal. It was 5:30. That's when people with young kids go eat. I noticed one of the bartenders look over, smile and nod. I returned the gesture. He walked over and I assumed he was going to comment on the boys enjoying the music or something. (there was Metallica, Zeppelin, and other cool tunes playing and we were all rocking) He said that we needed to stop the boy from banging his cup on the table. He didn't want him to damage the table. I pointed out that he was banging on his rubber mat...and the tables are pretty beat. He changed his complaint to he didn't want to compromise the experience of his other patrons. Other than a couple of older crankish looking dudes at the bar, pretty much every occupied table sat families with kids. The bartender said (within earshot of my 2.5 yro) I don't mean to be a d*ck but....I stopped him short and confirmed his assessment. He came back and attempted to apologize but ended up just harassing us more. He and the other bartender eyed us the rest of the meal. It was overall a crappy experience. (we took the sippy away from the drumming 11 mo old btw...but gave it back after the bartender's 2nd trip to the table) This is in no way a complaint about the brewmaster, the chef or our waitress. I've had their beers before which is why we went there. The sliders were good. Our waitress gave us great service and we tipped her accordingly. However there is no way in hxll I'll buy another Maritime beer or support them in any way as long as they employ people that represent them so poorly. Or at least keep the assXoles in the back of the house and out of the public. i like to think we are good parents. We are aware of how people react to our kids in public and do our best to not impose upon them. But if you have an establishment that allows children, has highchairs for small ones and I come there with my kids at 5:30 PM and dine among other families, you should probably expect kids to be kids.

Similar to previous reviewer Matt, ***** for the beer. Imperial Pale Ale. Excellent hoppy, citrusy beer. ***** for the service. despite obviously having many regular patrons in the bar area, we were well attended by two staff. *** for the food. I only tried the short ribs starter, which was prepared in an interesting combo with a spicy mango salsa The quality of the meat on the short ribs wasn't too high though... one of those meals where you need to wait for your party to not be paying attention so you can remove the gristle from your mouth, into a napkin and slide it under your plate edge.

Ah, another establishment that practices unhappy, miserable, bah humbug service. Food was ok on the cheaper side. Would it kill ya (to the waiter/tress) to smile a little bit? Come on...how difficult is it to smile back? Stick to making beers and forget serving food. Better yet forget serving.

A five if this were a beer review. A three if this was a restaurant review. Hence, the 4. I haven't been here for a few years. What hasn't changed is the great beer and a good wait staff. What has is the crowd. On a Wednesday night the small room was crowded, patrons were circling our table like vultures, and we felt rushed to leave after our meal. I guess that is what you get with all the new condos in Ballard - crowds. Anyway, the meal was so-so. I had the stuffed chicken breast which was a tad dry and a little salty. The onion rings and sliders are still top notch though. And, well, there is alway the gorgeous, luscious beer. If you go, be sure to ask for what's on cask and I hope, for you, that it is the IPA!

Not sure if we just hit this place on a bad night, but we did not have a nice experience here. This review has nothing to do with Maritime's food or beer, both of which are exceptional. The thing is- you can't just have good products, you also need to have great service to allow people to really experience your product. My wife and I live within walking distance to Maritime Pacific in the "Frelard" area. So we've went to Maritime Pacific for some pints of micro-brew twice now, and we will likely never return again. Our first visit was standard. Great beer, normal service. Our second visit didn't go so well. We showed up around 8 on a weekday, quickly grabbed a table in the corner. A few minutes later the bartender, who also serves our side of the restaurant, says hello and gives us some menus. We tell him we will be having a bite to eat as well. Comes back takes our drink orders. Walks past our table in one motion and puts the beers down and just floats away to another table...uhhh ok. We wait. Wait some more. Wait. Ten minutes goes by and we can feel our blood sugar waning. There are like 8 maybe 9 people at the bar and about 5 other tables occupied. Hardly busy with 3 people working the bar. We wait a few more minutes, thinking he will drop by to take our food orders, nothing. We know what we want to order obviously. I decided on an order of putin, and my wife opts for the sliders, which we had on our first visit and liked. At this point our server is just hanging out behind the bar shooting the shit with some regular, so I go up to order our food. But this asshole ignores me. He just continues his casual conversation with this old crusty drunk sitting next to me. I'm growing restless and the idea of just leaving 8 bucks for the pints and leaving crosses my mind. But after like 4 minutes this jerk just comes up and quickly lifts his head up in an annoyed manner. I'm like, we'd like to order some food. He's like ok. I order mine, then tell him I want 3 lil jolly's (the sliders), and not being sure about my wife's order, since they make the sliders name's so fucking complicated, I'm like "I think royale". And this prick, lifts his head from his pad and just barks at me "cheese?! or no cheese?!?" And I sheepishly mutter cheese and slink back to our table. Holy shit. If you would have just come back to our table I wouldn't have to have bothered you with wanting to patronize your establishment. Fucking A. The food comes and he's even more weird and awkward than before. We eat, it's good, and order one more round or pints. We get our bill and I'm thinking about tip percentages based on this dickhead's previous attitude. It's approaching 10 oclock I think and the people have slowly been trickling out for awhile. There's maybe 2 other tables with patrons and about 5 regulars at the bar. On the tv right next to our table we are enjoying a Laker's vs. Celts game on big screen, having a great old time watching a close game. The guy just turns the game off on our tv and walks back to the regulars- and leaves their tv on. As if to say, "get out to us". Anyone in our situation could have felt the unwelcoming vibes flowing out of this guy, throughout the whole night. We get up to leave and walk right past him at the bar. This douchebag doesn't even have the social ability to thank us or wish us a good night. When it was all said and done we spent close to $60 that night. And WE were made to feel like shit. The server I am referencing has a weird accent, and is just a smug looking dude. He's about 5'10" medium build dark receding hair. I should have gotten his name to put on here. You sir, are a fucking asshole, and should not work at a brewery. People go there to drink a few beers and have some laughs- not be scolded and made to feel unwelcome. Must have been a long day for him or something- but if I was the owner of that place and I saw one of my staff members treating a guest and paying customer that way- I would fire his ass on the spot. We will be taking our hard earned money to Hale's or Elysian from now on. Shame because the beer is bangin at Maritime. The thing is- in Seattle everything is so expensive that you expect friendly service from breweries. Cheers, I guess.

The taproom is a small, homey place with 10 to 15 tables, a decently sized bar and a single television. This last fact made it difficult to watch March Madness, but it was better than nothing. The pirate theme is not over-done, which is nice, and the floor is a giant treasure map. I wonder if there's a big X on the floor in the brewing room? Jolly Rogers features a decently sized and very inventive menu. As the name suggests, go for the seafood. Two small sandwiches of either fried Mahi or grilled Ahi tuna are your best bets, or the larger version of either. All of these were greatly enjoyed by my company. I, on the other hand, felt adventurous and went with the Asian Po'Boy featuring barbecue pork and Portuguese sausage topped with pickled Asian veggies and ginger mustard. It was spicy and tasty, but I would have preferred the fish. I was expecting something like pulled barbecue pork and was disappointed when the meat looked like lunch meat (though I'm sure it wasn't.) But the star of the meal was the Smokers. These are giant slices of hand-cut, applewood smoked onions hand breaded and deep fried. These are the best onion rings I've ever had, and I love onion rings. They've got quite a selection of beer here including two nitro taps and two cask-conditioned taps. The sampler comes with your choice of 5 samples of 5 ounces each. I didn't get to try everything, but what I did have ranged from good to great. The two that stuck out in my mind were the Flagship Red Alt Ale and the Nightwatch Dark Amber Ale. The Flagship wasn't different from other great red's, but it was crisp, malty and hoppy all at the same time. The Nightwatch was very dark (I'm surprised they call it amber) and was velvety smooth with rich, complex flavors all the way through. The whole restaurant is served by the two bartenders, which means service can be very dicey. If you manage to capture their attention they take care of you, but if you don't you can be forgotten. And careful when ordering a sampler. They really hate taking the time to fill 5 separate glasses. When we told the waitress we were going to hang out and drink after lunch, she said fine as long as you order, "real beers."

I'm a big supporter of local brewers, so I've had my fair share of Maritime's offerings. Some are very good, others middle of the road - I never find myself reaching for their brews while out grocery shopping. I opted once to head on over to their brewpub to drink from the source. I was surprised by a few things. First, it's a small establishment. Really small. That may explain why they have so few brew styles and a relatively small local distribution. The place reminded me somewhat of the Simpson's episode where Homer built a bar in his garage. Second, the use of the word 'brewpub' is a bit deceptive. They do offer a few things to eat, but I have no idea why they bother as it is neither a plentiful selection, nor very tasty - all served by people who act like they would really rather not bother with food at all. I commend them for continuing to try, but as I haven't seen any attempt to increase their brewing capacity since I've lived in Seattle or even really have a go at a decent brewpub, I wonder how long they can really last.

The owner did return my email and did reimburse both my friend and myself the amount charge to our cards. Not really an apology from the owner. It was definitely not the most professional response. But, I am happy we were able to be refunded.

What's not to love? Great beer and yummy lil sliders. They have probably the best sliders I've had in Seattle.

Arguably the best beer in town if not the state. George intentionally keeps his business small and quirky. Doesn't seem to cut deals with pushy beverage distribution companies. Any time I see Maritime on tap at the bar you better bet that is what I am drinking. The Jolly Roger Taproom offers some unique beers you aren't going to find anywhere else, and the food is good to boot.

Poutine and nitrogen charged ales....fried avocado....tattooed and knowledgeable waitstaff. It feels just right to me.

First of all, I LOVE the Jolly Roger winter ale, it's probably my favorite winter beer in the world, and they serve it here for MONTHS. Second, the gf and I are fans of their sliders - I really like the oyster sliders with the hot sauces, and she likes the veggie sliders. Fries and onion rings are decent. Tough to get in here sometimes, and the service the last couple times I've been here hasn't been great, but it's still in my rotation of favorite local pubs.

I went to the old location a number of times and always found it enjoyable. The like the beers they have and the mahi sliders are tasty. The service was good too - I believe we had the brewmaster helping us once and I was more then happy to give us info on the beers. I've only been to the new location (by the Fred Meyer) twice and the beers and food are still tasty. The second time I went, the service was awkward. I sat at a table with my friends for about 10 minutes with no one helping us (but one of the waitstaff coming to bus the table next to us and looking over & saying nothing), until one of us finally walked to the bar counter and inquired if it was table service or if we ordered at the bar. The guy behind the bar apparently was going to wait on us and asked what we would like, to which I had to ask him for some food menus (which he went and got and just placed them in a pile on the corner of the table - picky on my part but how about just handing them individually to us or hell, all at once to one of us). When we ordered beer, he pretty much just put the beers on the corner of the table too - they were different types of beers. The rest of the time, he helped us, he said maybe 2 sentences and it just felt awkward - like he didn't want us there at all. Maybe he was having a bad night, which I hope was the case because I'm not in a hurry to get back there if he's always like that. There was a female wait person that was working at the same time and she seemed to be doing a really good job - actually communicating and having fun with the customers. She actually came by our table and made a funny comment to one of us. I wished we had her. I'll still give this place 4 stars despite the awkward bar guy.

Somewhat meh. The pirate atmosphere is pretty cool, and if you're into that whole gig, then good for you. But the food wasn't what I thought it would be. My boyfriend agreed. My group headed over there after a Sunday service at the local Mars Hill Church campus, and I must say that the only memorable thing I had was the deep fried pickles. The slider burgers were just that...burgers. Nothing special about them, they were forgettable. The waitress was very friendly, but I subtracted a star because my whole table was serviced and received their food, but somehow I didn't receive mine. My order was "overlooked." We did eventually receive my order, at no charge to my boyfriend. I thought that was a classy move. Overall, the experience was nice, but nothing extraordinary. Doubt I'd eat there again, I didn't enjoy my entree so much. I'm just glad the waitress was so friendly. She was a sweetheart. The food was a bit overpriced, in my opinion.

Great beer! One of my favorites in Seattle, especially when consumed from the growlers you can pick up from the Taproom. (BYOG) I would not classify this as middle of the road, unless all you every drink is great microbrew! Also, the Taproom has great onion rings and sauces. It feels so cozy it seems they must have a living room in the back where you can take a nap after stuffing yourself with great food and beer. Hurray for a brewery that doesn't sell hard liquor OR have the "I wish I was still in my Frat!" folks milling about!

    (5)
  • Aaron M.

They have a few beers that are mildly memorable. Most are quite standard and can fall below par compared to other microbrews. I don't know if they are trying to be really good at making standard styles of beer or if they are trying to be inventive and add some custom flair. Either way they don't seem to be doing a good job and you wind up with somthing that middle of the road. It is drinkable and offers a choice over many common beers but I usually pass in favor of other better beers.

Oh Maritime...what happened? In the tiny space you used to inhibit, service was prompt, the food was awesome and the wait times were worth it. Grant it, you've only been open a week and your still finding your footing in your new location but your not new to the game..moving a few blocks shouldnt lower the quality or experience by 75 percent. The beers are still awesome, the servers still friendly but you guys need to do an overhaul on the kitchen. After an hour and a half of waiting for our food-we finally received a sub-par meal. The mahi sliders that were once piping hot and substantial in size ( for sliders) came out lukewarm, soggy and had 2 end pieces of fish the size of quarters on them. The cesar salad was soggy and lacked flavor and the fries were a lukewarm mess of grease. You get two stars cause the beers are still great, but sadly if I were to come back that would be the only reason. I've enjoyed frequenting your establishment in the past, but this evenings experience will have me rethinking my decision in the future. I hope you get it together in the kitchen so your food quality can match that of your beer selection. Good luck.

Really enjoyable place. I had the fish and chips, the fish being smoked trout (delicious!). I only tried one draft beer, a really lovely and smooth hefeweizen. Nice atmosphere and attentive and friendly bartender (I ate at the bar). I was with a couple of friends and they enjoyed their meals and beer choices as well. I can't speak to the parking as I walked from a friends house. Also, I wouldn't say the place was too crowded or loud. I was able to carry on a conversation no problem. Overall, a good experience and I would definitely be up for a repeat!

A beer place that's kid friendly I think there's a handful of places that are kid friendly and this is one of them. The food was sub par but I heard the beer was good. The place was packed on an early Friday night and we waited a good 30 min. It's really loud in there so I couldn't hear what anyone was saying unless they were sitting right next to me.

Its all about the beer and onion rings. Seriously. I did a small order just to myself and ate the whole darn plate. Perhaps it was beer munchies but man those were good. Not greasy, crispy light batter. So good. I opted for the beer taster as well. IPAs and pales were on point. Overall the beer was pretty decent. Reason for only 3 stars however is the fact that I came in, sat...alone...and it took quite some time for anyone to recognize that I needed service. Also, after I had placed my order I had to flag them down for water as they did not check up on me. When it came time to ordering some actual food outside of the onion ring order, it took another hot minute to flag them down once again. The burger slider I ordered was great. Not sure if it was worth the wait though. By then I just wanted a to go box and to head home. All in all I'd give it another try but service was slow on a Sunday evening.

  • Julia D.

We had a very pleasant experience sitting at the bar. The IPAs are smooth and easy to drink. I got a cup of seafood chowder and it was delish. We ordered the poutine, because I hadn't had it before and it had actual curds; it was also delicious. The beer battered bacon was totally insane, but as good as you might expect.

Great value in Seattle. Chef's specials always good! Lil' mahi & Po'Lil 'oysters w/ smoked jalapeño Caesar is killer and definitely order the Smokers (smoked onion rings) Best onion rings ever!!! Beer!!!

  • Nicholas L.

Reasonable beer. Food was meh. Had a Philly and a burger. I guess you have to get the Mahi here. At least that is what the reviews say. Service was sub par. Our server was rude. With a table of eight it will take a couple minutes for you to take our order - sorry for having questions and you have other tables. If you want mediocre service with mediocre food that is overpriced for what you get. This is the place for you. Enjoy Nick

  • Christopher P.

Food was good, but the beer was flat. Sad that a brewery can't get their taps right. The worst part of our experience was the painfully slow service and our waitress who seemed to be annoyed with having to serve us even though we we her only outside table. That is as long as you don't count the table of obviously off duty employees that several other "working" kitchen, bar and wait staff visited with extensively including our waitress and one guy, maybe a cook...wearing an apron, who proceeded to smoke a cigarette inside of the outside patio area right near the front door...not cool and not even close to legal. ZERO stars. Ballard has way too many options for craft beer and good food and service. Never again.

My fav stop on the Ballard beer troll. Beers are nice and food is tops (over the top beer food) They know how to fry! Humongous Onion rings, fried bacon, and fried oyster sliders (tip.. use the onion ring sauce and lemon, mmm). Beer tasters x5 was a real good deal. Overall great atmosphere, had a blast. A must stop in Seattle, Argh!!

  • William F.

All the beers here I had were decent, but they felt a bit dated. The IPA's were very bitter, without developing the more interesting floral notes that I like. It looks and feels like a 90's brewpub with slightly better beer.

  • John P.

Old Seattle Lager was my favorite beer out of the 5 breweries I visited on Saturday. The stuff they do with dry hops was equally amazing. I was thoroughly impressed with the beer, food, and service. The server even wrote down recommendations of other places to try in the area. Great experience here!

    (5)
  • Shannon S.

Tis true what you read, customer service is blah at best. It felt like our party was an annoyance to our server and she asked that we close out so she could "go home". She then sat outside and smoked right in front of the doorway so we could all finish up our food & drinks and smell it for the duration of our time. No thanks. There are too many great places in Ballard to make this a repeat performance.

We stopped in here on a Monday evening after a last minute Yelp search for some food in Ballard. We had our son with us, so we were looking for a casual place where we could sit outside. There are several picnic tables right out front that are self seating, so we grabbed one of those. Our server was very friendly and helped us out with some beer and food suggestions, I highly recommend the the fish and chips and their IPA. We were in and out pretty quickly, but it was a great overall experience, so we definitely will return to try out more of the beer and food options.

  • Mack M.

First off, the beer. All of the beers are "session" beers, wonderful brews that you can sip all through the eve. They've got the hoppy stuff for the IPA crowd, a couple of varietals are always on hand, and the stalwarts are fabulous quaffs. The staff is amazing. They're fine with children, post-game softball or soccer team (they discourage "warming up" pre-game!), people popping in for a quick one, a snack, or a long evening in front of the screen. The kitchen is very good. The space is comfortable, and parking is surprisingly easy. There are a lot of fine new places to drink beer in Ballard, Maritime still has it going on.

On our brewery tour of the breweries in Ballard - this was the only one that earned a collective "F*** this place." I have been here twice and both times the service has been awful. 30 minutes after arriving, our waitress came by twice - although the second time she came by it was because she had forgotten half of what we ordered the first time. After having absolutely no service, we decided to leave - as we were getting up, the waitress - now behind the bar - started pointing at us as if we were trying to dine and dash (though we never got to dine because she forgot to order anything for us). When we explained why we were leaving, the server became argumentative and defensive - telling us we hadn't been there for very long and we had been served. Screw this place and screw the staff working here - if you want to argue with customers trying to pay you and buy what you supposedly sell, we're happy to go elsewhere.

Decent beers on tap and the food is always good. Their sliders are the best! I go there about once a week. Their desserts are hit or miss. Over the summer they had awesome desserts and right now, they're not the best. That being said, I don't go there for dessert. I go for good beer and good food.

Lot's of beers here, but not too many that I preferred. The food is also almost all fried, but tasty. It's worth a try if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go more than once if I lived in Seattle. Staff wasn't that knowledgeable either, so unless you know a lot about their beers you won't get much help. Happy hour was decently priced and the only reason we ate as much as we did, I'd recommend going then!

My wife and I have enjoyed Maritime for years (before/after-children). Their menus are always exciting and the beer is very good. I'd give it a 5, but holding off until future experiences. Seems that our experience is highly dependent on what combination of staff are working from one day to the next. Sometimes it's absolutely perfect and other days the staff is less than charming, slow and dis-interested.

What do you need to know? Great beer and great appetizers. The deep fried bacon melts in your mouth. You either like bacon or you are wrong. The poutaine is the best served south of the 48th parallel.

This is a mirror of my review for the Jolly Roger Taproom. I've stopped in on multiple occasions to have a late lunch and a cold pint. Each time I go, I tell myself that I'll order something else from their lunch menu but I can't do it. Their Lil' Mahi sandwiches have a nefarious hold on me and I cave every time. They are a favourite because of their simplicity. The fish is pan seared and served on a fat little bun with our roasted jalapeño tartar and shredded cabbage. Or if you crave cow, grab some of their wickedly good Lil' Royals. Those damned things are also quite addictive with your choice of housemade sauces (Jolly Roger Habanero BBQ, Nightwatch Stone-ground Mustard, or Root Beer-Vanilla BBQ.) Looking for a great appetizer for a few people or have a great capacity for fried things? Order the Smokers... these are massive hand-cut onion rings smoked with apple wood and hops, double breaded and fried. These come with the same roasted jalapeño tartar as the Mahi sandwiches. They also have fried pickles AND fried bacon. Yeah, you heard right. It borders on the obscene but they have pepper bacon dipped in a dark amber and ghost chili batter, fried crisp and served with maple-chive aioli. I've never been brave enough to order it but I've seen it parade through to other tables. The food is consistently tasty with excellent beers. There have been days when I wish I had errands in Ballard so I could fit lunch in at the Taproom. I love their Lil' Mahi sandwiches THAT much. And a pint or two of the Nightwatch Dark Amber or Bosun's Black (both excellent) will hit the spot quite nicely. Speaking of spots, parking in their small lot or on the street. I've never had an issue but we don't really go during peak times either. The bathrooms have always been clean with speedy competent service. If you're in the area and want to check out their beers, they offer a tasting sampler of all of their beers for $8 or so. You won't be disappointed!

Hey guys and gals-I'm writing in regards to the tasty, foamy brew I had at a local bar in Spokane, WA. I was lucky enough to have a taste of Pacific Maritime's Imperial IPA and I've got to share the amazement! The light pale/ amber color is deceiving due to the brews imperial status :0) great mouth feel, great head retention and worth every penny!

  • Julie P.

I hadn't been back here in a while and have to say that the main thing that always brings me back are the onion rings. It's a tough call, but between Maritime & Red Mills, the onion rings are real winner. The sliders are not too bad, but the buns are a little more dense then I like them. But 3burgers for about $6-9 isn't too bad. The beers are decent and the rest of the food is your good old bar food. I'd stick with the awesome onion rings, throw back some beers, and maybe split one of their huge salads w/someone.
