I love this place. These little Mom & Pop joints is what makes the 'burbs of Seattle so great. Sure, they are all hidden amid the countless number of strip malls, crouched under the domination of Subways and Godfather's Pizza and what not, but they are there and you need to find them. The Pulled Pork Sandwich is seriously delicious. I'm still reminded of Manna every time I see a pull pork on a menu when I'm dining out in New York - the only one that has come close is the one from Alias Restaurant. All their meat is slow-cooked and smoked for that distinct mesquite flavor. Their BBQ sauce is one of the best and if you ask nicely, they'll sell you a bottle of it.

A friend has been raving about Manna BBQ for some time and I finally had a chance to try it. I'm glad I did. They had their pulled pork sandwich and potato salad as a special and I got a side of slaw because I like slaw on my sandwich. The portions were generous and the food tasted great. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu.

this place is the perfect definition of a hole in the wall. amazing bbq in a crummy strip mall blocked by a jiffy lube, cheap, friendly mom and pop, consistent. the bbq sando with slaw or potatoe sald allways seems to be the black board special and its great. brisket is tender and has the right amount of fat. the whole chicken is moist and heavily smoked. slaw and beans are great but sides could be bigger. the folks who own it obviously are the only ones who work there since i allways see them there every time. very nice couple and i love to support the really small places.

BEEF RIBS! I don't need to say much more than that, except: tender, fall-off-the-bone, delicious, and MORE PLEASE. Hot sauce for the win.

A vengeful God awaits all those who do not hurry to Manna Smoked BBQ to taste THE SAUCE. They even sell the sauce in bottles to take to your home. Needless to say, their sauce will get you more ladies than a three wolf moon shirt. The portions are such that you'll likely be A. Comfortably well fed AND B. Able to fit through the door. However, if you're not one who is already B before coming here, than A probably won't apply. If that is the case, just order a ton of food; their prices are low and it's really the only way you won't be cast down by the swift lightning and terrible flame that only a furious culinary God could unleash upon the unworthy. EAT.

I had the baby back ribs and the beef brisket. This is one of the only bbq restaurants in the area that actually has meat that tastes like it was smoked. The brisket was tender and has enough flavor, you could eat it without now sauce. The ribs were tender and smokey. I'm so glad I tried this place! The medium sauce was really good too. Just the right amount of spice.

If you're in the Greenwood area and are looking for some good Texas Style BBQ check this place out. I live in the area and hit up this spot when I feel like a little country. The Baby Back Ribs melt off the bone. Pulled pork is soft with just enough spice to make it nice. Puled Pork Sandwich is also pretty awesome. Baked beans and Cornbread are great sides to top off wonderful entrees. Did I mention the BBQ sauce? Each dish is covered or slathered in the delicious stuff I like this place and will be a regular when I'm in need of southern flavor.

I ate here a couple days ago and did NOT get sick, and neither did the majority of reviewers. Just sayin'. My boyfriend got a pulled pork sandwich and I got a light bite plate of baby back ribs (3-4pieces), potato salad and cornbread. There wasn't a lot of meat on 2/4 of the bones, but the flavor of the spicy BBQ sauce made up for that, because it's not too sweet or spicy. It was a delicious meal, and our new barbecue hot spot.

The absolute best BBQ brisket in western wa. Prices are very reasonable. The brisket was lean, tender and flavorful. The sauce is good. They really do their meat the right way. We lived in TX for several years and this place is as close as it gets. The brisket is really in the Texas mode.

We have had them cater numerous large functions recently and it's always fantastic. the cornbread is warm when it arrives and the brisket is amazing. I have been ordering for my company for two years ( two to three lunches a week) and this is by far THE BEST BBQ we have had.

Seattle doesn't have many BBQ places, and even fewer takeout BBQ places. So this is one of my regular visits. This is not really an eat-in place. You'll want to take out. I recommend the Pulled Pork platters. Be sure to ask for your sauce on the side, since they put way too much on. The sauce isn't bad, it's just way too smoky. For sides, I like the cornbread and the cole slaw. The beans and potato salad are acceptable.

I had a hankering for some BBQ and there aren't a ton of options in Seattle so I decided to give this place a try. The location isn't particularly remarkable, I get the sense it's mostly a take out place. There are a couple of tables if you feel like eating there. All the tables were clean and the floor looked like it had just been mopped. The food itself is tasty but not particularly authentic (billed as Texas BBQ). Several friends and I got a mix of entrees which gave everyone a chance to sample things. The Brisket was really good as was the pulled pork (which you won't see at a real Texas BBQ), their sauce isn't particularly spicy so I'd recommend getting the hot sauce. The beef ribs were a little disappointing, kind of dry. As a few other reviews have noted the portions aren't huge but I wouldn't say they were "small" either. This place doesn't have a liquor license so no beer unfortunately. Food is definitely above average. Not worth a road trip but if your in N Seattle and have a craving for bbq I'd recommend stopping by. Also worth noting that I felt fine after eating. I suspect the person who complained about getting sick is either making it up or got sick from something else.

The food was pretty good, despite the rather small portions. The big downside of this place is that it gave my boyfriend and I food poisoning. There are two other reviews on Google that also claim to have gotten food poisoning from this place. Find another bbq joint unless you enjoy spending 2 days on the toilet. DIARRHEA UPDATE: I know that it's gross and no one wants to hear about a stranger's bowel movements but I've now been sick because of this place for a week now, including fever, severe stomach cramps, consistent diarrhea, and even a little vomiting. My boyfriends sickness cleared up after a couple days but mine just seems to get worse. Do NOT eat here! Just trust me that you do NOT want to deal with what I am currently going through.

Amazing! Our new favorite place for cheap but delusions BBQ! Better than ROROS! We both had the pulled pork with a side of bakes BBQ beans and corn bread. All were amazing. The corn bread wasn't warm... But that didn't bother us. We also asked for a side of their hot BBQ sauce. It was Amazing! pretty spicy but we like it hot. It's right off of our bus stop and super quick to get to, not to mention that the service itself was fast and friendly. This is my first yelp review, so I must have loved it ;)

This is my favorite place for BBQ pork sandwiches. Meat is tender and generous and not fatty. What keeps me going back year after year is their amazing cole slaw. It's made fresh and is perfectly balanced, crunchy and I wish I knew their secret recipe. Check it out, let's support our local mom and pop places and have a great meal. The place is small but we never have to wait. The do a brisk takeout business.

Great BBQ sauce. The pulled pork sandwich is awesome along with the potato salad. The baby back ribs are great as well. Pretty decent price too. Cheaper than caspers and has better BBQ. Very simple menu which makes it easy to decide what you want.

Came back here the other day and The price of the sandwich seems to be not worth it now. I think they have started putting less meat in there.... the taste is still good, just feel a bit jipped.

I was hesitant to try this place because of some of the bad reviews. However I was pleasantly suprised by the delicious food. I had the #8 and the pulled pork was tender and flavorful and the meat fell off the baby back ribs. The medium bbq sauce was spicy without being to spicy and left a pleasant tingle on your tongue. Nice size portions and yummy, crunchy coleslaw! HIGHLY recommend this place.

Very yummy! The pulled pork sandwich was wonderful and served on a nice roll. They were quick, it was clean (enough) and very friendly. Four people and we ate for forty bucks. I recommend!

I love this place because the BBQ is great. I usually go with a pulled pork sandwich, which is delicious. The other main attraction on the menu is baked potato, which is loaded with BBQ meat and other goodies. I have never ordered that myself, but I have been here with several people who have and they cant stop raving about it. Additionally the prices are very reasonable, coming in under $10 even with a drink. I think the only knock is the location. It is in a small strip mall on the corner of a busy street.

This little hole-in-the-wall is the best BBQ restaurant in Seattle, at least among the ones I've tried. The meat is of the highest quality. The house-made bbq sause is fantastic. I don't have any complaints, except that I wish there were some vegetables besides coleslaw available. But that's a lot to ask at any bbq joint. I've tried the sandwiches, the Texas Spuds, the potato salad, and coleslaw. Everything was good. I don't know about the other stuff. I don't understand why Yelp calls it "Manna Smoked BBQ, though." The sign out front says it is called Texas BBQ or something like that.

Their baked potato with meat is damn good, so good you'll leave smelling like smoked meat. well.... that's not good, but seriously, it is worth trying out if you're in the greenwood area. As for their pork sandwich, I thought it was ok, i've had better - cough cough- kingfish cafe;best pulled pork sandwich hands down! and red velvet cake! I would say try their baked potato, and that's it. I wouldn't go venture off into the other meats, I didn't think it was that amazing. I've had stick to your bones ribs and corn bread, and theirs is Comme ci, comme ça.

This place is OKAY. Just okay. We had the ribs and the 1/4 chicken - it tasted like we got it frozen from Trader Joe's and smoked it. Not bad, just not good. I'm surprised at all the 4 and 5 star ratings. I haven't ever even been to Texas, but I've had better BBQ for sure.

Not real BBQ. Sorry. :( If you eat here: order the sauce on the side. So, the owner is super-nice, and I feel bad, writing this review. This place is Korean-owned, and they happily admit that fact (despite the kitschy 'Texas' memorabilia lining the walls). But as a BBQ purist, I really can't recommend this place to other BBQ addicts. My review, for friends? "It's just okay." And that's true. It's not terrible, by any means. And if you haven't eaten real BBQ, you will probably love this. But here's what I consider to be a 'good' or 'real' BBQ experience: 1) Unnecessarily large portions of delicious meat 2) Smokey meat (which is so flavorful and tender, that it does not need sauce) 3) Prices that match the heaping piles of meat 4) The desire to continue eating, despite the inability to do so This place, while not exactly overpriced, is still a bit pricey for what you get. They claim that they use all-natural ingredients for everything, which is a huge plus for me (and wins some pity points in pricing). And if you're in a pinch, the large pulled pork - excuse me - 'chopped pork' sandwich is decent for the price ($6). That said, I doubt it will fill anyone up. The meat, while somewhat smokey, is not as flavorful and tender as a BBQ junkie might hope for. You won't find yourself licking your fingers and craving for more. The taste won't coat your tongue and make your breath smell of delicious BBQ. That said, it's not very fatty, and they claim it's all-natural. So, at least there's that. The sides, however, are really not my thing (and are oddly expensive). The Potato Salad is basically just mayonnaise. The beans? I'd be surprised if they weren't Bush's Baked Beans. Not impressed. The sauce, I feel, is extremely generic and tasteless. It was very acidic and spicy for the sake of being spicy. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of that sauce is simply tabasco and ketchup (it definitely had the nasal 'kick' of pure tabasco). It's also very 'soupy'. I prefer to create a thick BBQ sauce (I use molasses and tomato paste in mine), seasoned with freshly ground pepper and spices. If you do end up going here, I recommend two large 'chopped pork' sandwiches, no sides. Or, if you can handle ingesting overpriced hormone meat: take the trip to Issaquah and visit Stan's BBQ for some authentic BBQ, instead. But why can't we have both? Is there such a thing as an amazing, authentic BBQ joint that uses organic or all-natural ingredients? One can only hope...

I first don't care where you are from. Good BBQ is good BBQ. This is not good BBQ. Pecos, Jones, Home of Good BBQ are all great. This place does not serve good BBQ.

  • Peter A.

At face value, you would not expect great BBQ from this place. It's in a generic little strip mall, and it's plain that the Korean family who run it were not raised eating Texas style BBQ. From appearances, it should have been far inferior to the OK Corral, which used to operate just down the street. But then you taste it, and wow. I'm a big barbecue buff and this is definitely some of the best in the city. All the meats are tender and tasty, but if I have to choose, I recommend the pork. The sauce is so good you will want to buy a pint to take home. The owners are very friendly and the service reliable. Parking can be a challenge since Snoose Junction moved in next door, but it's worth it if you have to park up the street. Let your taste buds be the judge.

Perhaps you've heard of Katie "Yelp SeaTown M'lady" and her Texan beau Charlie "El Tiburon." These fine folks told me about this great place, so when I was on my way home last night from work with the hubsters, we picked up some BBQ. Katie and Charlie have never lead me wrong, so I say, why not! I got the "Lighter side" beef ribs, side of coleslaw and a cornbread muffin. The sauce was super good, and the ribs were down right tasty! Maybe next time I'll get the pork ribs cuz that sounded good, too. Hubby got a beef brisket sandwich. It looked good, too, but I totally out ordered him. He said next time he'll probably get ribs. To summarize: This place is a good value and serves really tasty food. Thanks be to Katie and Charlie for another great pick!

Atmosphere-wise, the place is clean and bright, but has just enough of a rough edge to give it some character. Interestingly, I found out the owners aren't actually from Texas, but they claim their recipes are from a friend who lives there. Went with a group and had the beef ribs, baby back ribs and the brisket. We asked for them to put the sauce on the side so we could take our pick of mild, medium or hot sauce. Without the sauce, the meat seemed slightly on the dry side, but once sauced appropriately, everything tasted excellent. They've also got baked beans to die for (don't get their smallest size--you'll want more), delicious cole slaw, good cornbread--not amazing, but definitely good--and some decent potato salad. Overall, some good BBQ. I'd go back for sure.

The ribs were 90% gristle, not much meat. Pretty costly also.

I wouldn't write to Memphis about it, but Manna's BBQ is decent. I'll definitely stop in for lunch from time to time and, presuming they have hardy to-go containers, it would be a great pickup for a picnic at Carkeek Park down the road. I had the turkey breast and it was perfectly moist and smoky. The coleslaw was simple, traditional (mayo based), and gasp! tasty. I don't know why it is so difficult to find good coleslaw, but I've tried everywhere from Steelhead Diner to PCC and it always ends up watery or bland or in an I've-seen-better-days state. Manna's,though, is worthy of an entire side order, not just the tiny cup that comes as a plate option. My cornbread muffin was a little dry and more cakey/sugary than I like, but that's just a personal preference.

I really liked this place. I thought the BBQ was yummy and the Texas Potato really was one of the more awesome things I've had in a while. I read a few reviews written by people who sound like they know a lot about BBQ and for the most part, these reviews were negative. I myself am not a connoisseur, so for those of you who take your BBQ seriously, I have to defer to the experts. The venue itself is a bit strip-mallish. I walked away thinking the owners deserve a better location, and hopefully with time, they'll upgrade. At the very least get some food to go on a Sunday during football season. Just don't forget the Texas Potato!

I am supposed to lose weight. I am becoming fat and made a promise that I will not eat anything bad for me until I lose around 5 pounds. So, of course, the first day I screw up at eat here. I have always wanted to try this place since I have moved to Greenwood. I finally found it on Yelp and saw all of the great reviews for it and thought that I must try this right now! I am thinking one of the reason I have stayed away is because it is next to the phogettable UnPHOgettable. But I am glad I found this on Yelp because this place was excellent and I am kicking myself because I should have came here sooner. I had the pulled pork sandwich with medium sauce because I was told the hot was pretty damn hot. The medium had a great kick to it but I think I am going to have to try the hot next time. The meat had a delicious smokey flavor and was tender. They have a special where you can get a large sandwich and a side for only about $6. The only thing I can really complain about is their magazine selection isnt very good. They had one ESPN magazine that talked about the upcoming 2008 NFL season, a Texas magazine from 1992, and a bunch of People and Us magazine. Obviously I am grasping for something that is wrong with this place, and if it is the magazines then they did a good job. So when I lose 5 pounds I am either going to treat myself to pizza or a pulled pork sandwich from Manna. Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

Not all Texas BBQs are Created Equal Given that I was the only customer besides the guy waiting for his to-go order, I found it surprising that it took them 10 minutes to give me the beef ribs. It is not as if beef ribs are something you cook to order. After 7-8 minutes I got to hoping that perhaps this place freshly bakes every cornbread order as they do at Rodeo City BBQ (Ellensburg). When I got my food I immediately realized that this was not the case. The cornbread was stale and I did not finish it. The ribs had a hint of smokiness, but I would guess they weren't smoked for 18+ hours as is done at certain Texas BBQ establishments. Meat was neither tender nor anywhere close to falling off the bone. There wasn't much to complain about the beans and coleslaw, but they were nothing special either. Portions were certainly not "Texas-sized." I'm not one to eat until I am completely full, but I don't like to leave a restaurant hungry. Also, one of the biggest disappointments for me was that they don't have sausage on the menu. They had some Texas license plates on the wall to show the "authenticity" of their "Texas Style" BBQ. This place certainly doesn't come anywhere close to the top BBQ places in Texas. But then again, there are many crappy BBQ places in Texas as well. I've certainly had worse in a few occasions. Thus, it gets a better than 1 star rating. However, I will not be going back. Update: I did not mean in any way to imply that the service at this restaurant was bad. Service was definitely reasonable. I was simply describing what was going on in my mind as I was waiting for the food. The owner sent me a message and while I sympathize with her position, that doesn't change my taste buds. I did get an update that the ribs are smoked for 12+ hours, so I guess that means it is possible for them to have been smoked for 18+ hours.

Well, I didn't realize just how close it was to my house. One day a few of my friends decided we wanted to get some ribs, but not the crap you get from chain restaurants. Well... this and another place popped up, and since we were running a bit late, we chose this one. Well the decor isn't anything WOW, in fact it's a lot like a teriyaki joint. The food is the reason why we came here. I ordered a pound of the baby back ribs, wow. Just peels off the bones, amazing. I'm not the best judge for ribs but these were amazing. I also had the potato with pork to go (1lb of ribs isn't enough :P) and that was amazing. Def gonna go back again when ever I have cravings for ribs, I def wanna try the pulled pork sandwich.

Great BBQ pork sandwich. Meat is chopped to order and the medium sauce has just the right kick. I've started topping mine with a little of their coleslaw as Jenny taught me. A great lunch alternative in the northend if your're in the mood for some BBQ. Just don't expect too much in the decor department. This place is about the meat. Tried the ribs last time. Unfortunately they were very dry and very smokey (too hot and too long in the smoker I would guess). And the were drowning in a much to smokey sauce as well. Stick to the sandwich IMHO.

Just discovered Yelp. First thing I did was check up on one of my favorite little places. Manna's! I was so happy to find them and read other good reviews. I have been going to Manna's for maybe 15 years. I have settled into a routine of pork "light plate" (melt in your mouth) with sides and mild sauce but in the early days I tried pretty much everything: pulled pork sandwich, smoked turkey breast (how they thin slice something this tender like they do I have yet to figure out), brisket, ribs. Tried medium sauce, a bit warm for me. Never tried the chicken. Everything is great. I am a BBQ aficionado and have had it all around the country. I have not found better than this (including several places in TX, TN, NC). The mom and pop who own and run this place work their fingers to the bone. They are there 6 days a week (closed on Sunday). Their English is limited but they are very friendly. I really can't say more. If you want BBQ as good as any I have had anywhere in the country try Manna's. Yeah it's in a strip mall and maybe the decor is a bit cheesy but the food & service is awesome. This couple is just making a living working hard and serving great food. Not trying to make a killing here. Oh yeah, their specialty which I have not seen anywhere else: smoked baked potato with some cheddar cheese, BBQ meat of your choice, sauce of your choice, a dollop of sour cream. Excellent!

Outstanding, I make it a point to stop at Manna's when i am in this area. Beef Brisket Sandwiches are the bomb and the spicy sauce rocks. Also the potato Salad is very good, and the cole slaw too. He will give you a taster of the potato salad before you buy if you want to try it. Haven't tried much else on the menu, every time I try to think outside of the beef brisket sandwich I just can't imagine anything tasting better, maybe one of these days I can explore the menu more fully. I highly recommend!

So I dropped into the ever-so-trusty Jiffy Lube in North Seattle to get that tune-up. On my mind was spicy meat. I was thinking where I could go after lubing, and was thinking Wing Dome? The Ok Corral for some decent bbq? Thai, maybe? But then lo-and-behold right there in front of me was this Texas "Manna-style" barbeque. Well I was a little confused between "Manna" or Korean style bbq, and Texas bbq, but certainly this quirk only added to my curiosity. I was greeted by a very nice younger man -- seemed Korean enough. The menu is fairly straightforward -- options typical of most bbq menus -- one, two, or three meats, with bbq beans, cornbread, and a side of your choosing. One unique option was the "Texas potato" which serves up a smoked potato with meat on top of it -- interesting concept that I did not try this time. I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu, for $14.95 -- the two-meat choice. Since they were out of beef brisket, I chose the pork baby-back ribs and chicken. I also got the potato salad side to go with the required bbq beans and cornbread. (The other two options are cole slaw and a side of rice.) Rice? well, ok. Out of the mild, medium, and hot bbq sauce options, I chose the hot. The sauce is really good -- it is what I imagine Texas sauce to be, but is homemade, and that freshness really makes a difference in the flavor. I normally go for a less tomatoey sauce, but this really did taste great -- also a bit on the sweet side (more like a Kansas-style sauce), but not too much. I'm a big fan of their sauce, except that next time I might ask for it on the side so I can choose how much to put on the meat myself -- it was slathered in it the way I got it -- and since bbq places often skimp on sauce, that is not a bad thing. I started with the pork baby-back ribs. They were simply too dry, and too small. Normally "Texas" proportions are larger ones, and these were rather wimpy although, in fairness, they WERE baby-back. But why don't they prepare regular-sized pork ribs? I suppose this was offset by receiving four baby-back ribs in addition to a good amount of chicken. So then, I tried the chicken... Ohhhh man -- the chicken was seriously drop-off-the-bone smokey goodness -- that chicken was really great, and mated with the sauce beautifully. MMMMMM, M! As for the side, the baked beans were on the sweet side, but among the best-tasting I've ever had, and I've been around the country for bbq foods. Really good. The potato salad, on the other hand, was a mayonaisey mess -- nothing special and I left it after one bite. If you like mayonaisey potato salad, though, you would probably love this version. Oh, and because there were two orders ahead of me, it took about 20 minutes to get my to-go order. That's kind of a long wait, but since I had to wait for my Jiffy Lube job, I didn't mind -- THIS time. But I would never go here if I was in a true hurry. Overall, some real strengths, and some weaknesses. PROS: The sauce! Best smoked chicken I've had in a loooong time. CONS: Dry-ish, skimpy pork ribs. Took too long to prepare my to-go order, Still, I recommend this place for a try, and definitely the chicken.

Went back a second time; my only disappointment was that they ran out of beef ribs. Two ways to look at it: 1. Those ribs are so good, people can't get enough. For gosh sakes it's a rib joint. or 2. What the heck? How can they not have ribs; it's a rib joint. I'm sticking with number 1, unless this becomes a regular thing.

Texas transplants from Korea? Ever had Korean BBQ? Like it? Now mix that quality with Texas and you got some good BBQ! This place needs a little attention. Tucked away in the crossroads of North Seattle, is a rather charmingly decorated sit down and grub restaurant run by this cute little couple from Texas. The barbecue is a good quality tasty sweet with a nice sweet and smoky sauce. This is definitely the place you want to go when you want some pork ribs and fixins. Good For: cute decor, people who like bbq sauce

I would rate this place three to four stars if it were in Texas, but this is probably the best BBQ I've had here in the NW. The meat is perfectly smoked and finished off with a great sauce, Not like the Longhorn BBQ posers or that nasty crap they stew in a crockpot down the street at OK Corral. Definitely worth the trip here to have some good grub.

I returned to Manna Smoked BBQ recently and was pleased to see they had a steady stream of regulars. Food was still pretty good, but I wish they had a larger selection of sides. I'd loooove a macaroni & cheese option.

I have seen this place for a long time but never figured it was that good. I was wrong. Excellent food, fair prices, and super nice owners. My son & I went and we loved it. I got the spicy BBQ sauce pork sandwich and he got the BBQ Turkey. He also raved about how good it was. We will be back.

for some reason i'd never tried this place 'til the other day, and i'm sorry i've been missing it. i had a large pork sandwich that was awesome. i went for the medium spice and it was a nice slow burn - i'm curious what the hot is like...but i'm not so into spicy pork sandwiches anyway. my partner had the ribs which were also nice and tasty, super tender. delicious!

Having lived in Texas for a few years I thought I'd try this place out. I had to ask the Korean lady taking my order (she's the owner) how she got into the Texas BBQ business. She said that they purchased the business from a former Texan (or so it goes...). The combo plates are good , beans were killer, and bbq brisket and ribs were great. Good smoky meat, great sauce. Word of warning - they do take a while to put the order together for some reason. Bring your own reading material, book, etc as the magazines are very outdated. Someone mentioned the Texas Monthly from 1992 - I saw that copy in the restaurant too! Funny, I was in Dallas this summer and ate at a few places I used to frequent - some of them have gone downhill and I and kept thinking about the decent BBQ joint (this one) a few blocks from my house in Seattle. Worth a try if you're in this corner of Greenwood/Holman.

Sorry, but I just can't rave about a BBQ place that has small portions, large prices and so-so food. But it has been in business a while and other reviewers like it. But the BBQ purist be warned, this is fast food BBQ that is overpriced and very unsatisfying. I went there once and have never been back even though I live less than a mile from it and have lived in Ballard for 20 years. I would rather drive all the way to Auburn and eat at Ribbins than go here at all. Having eaten BBQ in Kansas City, Texas, Memphis, Florida and North Carolina, this place is off my BBQ radar.

Excellent food, fair prices, and super nice owners. The perfect place to get good BBQ on the go. ALWAYS get the loaded potato!

I love this place. I was gonna start with five stars and do my usual subtraction for things that make it not so enjoyable but I have been a dozen or so times and never found one. I always see the same staff so it is definately Mom and Pop. Plus their beef brisket is ohh so good and reminds me of home. Also they make a pretty decent pecan pie which is not something you can find out often. Only thing that could make it complete is good bread. Better corn bread or even some very yummy rolls. Ouch I guess they just lost a star.

I've only gotten pulled pork for take out, but it was fantastic. Looking forward to trying out other things on the menu. Really nice little downhome place, with friendly proprietors. Check it out.

We've been going there for years. Best bbq in all of seattle. The food is consistently good unlike most bbq's in the area. We've had most of the menu and will continue to go back for sure.

I probably wouldn't have ever stopped in but I saw a reveiw on here and decided to give it a shot. It's god to have a local ma and pa bbq that has reliably good meats. As with most bbq joints I've been to the sides were kinda bland. The cornbread was definitely dry. Orders were taken politely, food served in a reasonable amount of time, and they left me alone. Skip Arby's and head here instead.

SO BOMB get the pulled pork sandwich and if you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket splurge on the brisket AKA Meat Candy, you won't be disappointed! The coleslaw is great too. I go here a lot and I always get the special i.e. pulled pork in a bun with a side of slaw for right away and a pound of brisket for later. I haven't tried anything else on the menu because these two never fail. This place is a hidden gem!

i just had a to-go dinner from Manna with my husband and overall, we were pleased. the sauce was very smokey and we both enjoyed that. my hubby reports that the spicy sauce brought the heat and was pleased. i got the mild sauce and i found it a tad too warm but i am very sensitive to heat. the baked potato was actually diced potatoes mixed with sauce and meat. not what he expected but still tasty. i got the brisket and pork ribs. i found the brisket to be dry and sliced too thick. the ribs were well cooked and tender but not a lot of meat on them. i'm from Alabama and have been spoiled by a BBQ place called the Brick Pit so i really feel like i can't give a very fair review for other places! still, we were both pleased with the dinners but i am still searching for a bbq joint to adopt here. i'll try the pulled pork next time. and there will be a next time. why? two words...pecan pie. if you need something sweet...if you need something gooey...if you need a pecan pie, get your ass in here. even if you don't think you need a pecan pie, get your ass in here and get a slice of pie. you won't realize that this is the piece if your life that's been lacking. this is it. this is definitely the best pecan pie i've had outside of Priester's Pecans (or my Nana's, of course). what really, really makes this pie is the crust. it's not dry and flaky. it's caramelized and dense and just delicious. it's going to take a lot of willpower to not be in here picking up a slice every couple of days. i can't wait for more!

I come here all the time and I'm never disappointed. I really love the Texas spud, it's delicious and very filling. I get the large, with beef brisket and medium sauce on the side. The baby back pork ribs are great, too. If you're in the mood for some barbecue, you can't go wrong with this place.

Good. Not bad. And not amazing. Sauce is good. I had the brisket. It was good and tender. I've always enjoyed the the delusions blacken charred meat pieces. This on the other hand, this was like out of a mass, pre-cut, no char, pieces of tender steak. I liked the coleslaw. The corn muffin was bland and a little hard. My dad had the pulled pork. He said "It was all real good." I didn't like that I couldn't see in the kitchen. It's a small, old feel place. Which makes me think/feel they may not be the most hygienic/clean in the kitchen. Why hide it? But I will be back. It's the closest BBQ place to my house and not bad. Really, not bad. Don't have the highest expectations and you will enjoy it.

My favorite BBQ restaurant in Seattle. Been eating here for years and the food is consistently excellent. The meal we order comes with 2 sides. I like baked beans and potato salad. Boyfriend likes potato salad and coleslaw. We find all of the sides are delicious. The salads are served chilled and are a great complement to the the warm, spicy ribs. A cornbread muffin also comes with each meal, with butter: they are warm, moist, tasty. We consider ourselves foodies. Our favorite entrée is the baby back ribs and they are fantastic. Melt in your mouth tender. Always moist. Never had a bad one yet in all these years. Ribs come with barbecue sauce on the side. I like spicy food, but for me their spicy sauce is too spicy. What they call mild is just right for me. Same for boyfriend. They serve a gernerous, large quantity of food, we leave very satisfied. And the prices are very reasonable. The family that owns Manna BBQ is especially friendly and nice. Often times the son works the counter and he is always happy and smiling. Manna BBQ is our favorite barbecue restaurant in Seattle.

We went here for dinner tonight and it was delicious!!! Highlights: - The loaded potato!!! With smoked potato, bbq sauce, pulled pork, cheese, sour cream, whatever else, so freaking delicious! - Cornbread - Rice (weird for a bbq place, but good) - Pulled Pork Sandwich Downsides: - Brisket was nothing overly stellar - Beans were just ok Overall great, we'll definitely be back. Especially for the potato.

This is the most embarrassing and disgusting interpretation of bbq, let alone Texas style, that I have ever had this misfortune of stumbling upon. I think my brisket was squares of pot roast that had been reheated in the microwave and double-dipped into a tub of Kraft KC Masterpiece sauce. I got a piece of "cornbread" with the dish that was so dry and flavorless that it made me question my place on earth. "If I have to eat this, what is the point of living?" I asked myself. Oh yes, my place is to take two bites of the baked beans and spit it out because, again, this is probably a reheated can of store brand camp rations that I am eating. The decor in the place is beyond bizarre and I felt like I was visiting what someone on another planet probably thinks of as America. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. I'll be over here, hoping I get food poisoning to get rid of this even faster.

Being from Texas (lived there for 30 years), and having a friend visiting from Texas this weekend, we decided to give this place a try to see if it lived up to it's name. By the way, this place is now called "Texas Style Smoked BBQ". This place could probably pass for just plain BBQ, but it's not Texas Style BBQ. The owners were nice, polite, and seemed receptive to our suggestions on how to improve what they had to offer. I just hope they implement some of them to help this place really stand out from the other BBQ places in Seattle. I certainly miss my BBQ from back home and would like to see at least a couple of places get it right. We both had the Brisket plate with potato salad, which also included baked beans, and cornbread. We ordered the sauce on the side as recommended here previously. Here are our thoughts and suggestions: - Order the sauce on the side at least for the first time you try this place. I tried the mild and it was very generic and even a bit spicy for mild. It was definitely overpowering and I could easily see it taking away from the meat if it was covered in the sauce. - The brisket was very lean and dry (which some prefer and that's fine), however I prefer a little fat to give it better flavor and keep it moist. Several places offer the option of getting lean or fatty brisket. By the way, the brisket was cut in cubes and triangles and not sliced. It should always be sliced perpendicular to the grain to ensure it's tender and easy to chew. - The baked beans were likely canned and weren't all that great. Aside from that, they should be pinto beans, cooked with ham or bacon and cooked with a good Texas Style pinto bean recipe. - The potato salad was ok, nothing special but was a decent portion size. Speaking of portion size, for the price charged, the portions should be "Texas" sized. - There was no sausage on the menu. In Texas, sausage in on every BBQ place's menu, usually a mild and a spicy version. Pulled pork was the first item on the list for each section. Pulled pork is not a Texas BBQ main meat choice. Brisket and ribs should be at the top of the list. - The cornbread wasn't bad, but had a muffin taste to it aside from being shaped like a muffin. All the cornbread I've ever had has been square/rectangular. So this was a bit off putting. - To complete the Texas Style experience, I would suggest adding freshly brewed sweet tea to the menu since it's highly popular in Texas.

DON'T GO - DON'T GO!!!! The the sign on the outsides says TEXAS STYLE SMOKED BBQ - I got a pound and beef ribs for $20 and it was 4 big bones and about 2 mouthfuls of meat - the meat would probably fit into a 1/4 measuring cup. I am sure if I weighed the bones when done it would be just under 1 lb. If you want to spend a lot of money and get almost NO FOOD - THIS IS THE PLACE

I have been to most BBQ joints in Seattle, and this one just has me coming back for more. Their pulled pork is to die for. It is such a nice little spot in an area where you would least expect it. Go ahead and get your oil changed at Jiffy Lube and grab a great bite to eat while you wait.

Came here for a quick casual lunch during the work day. Ribs were very tasty but serving was relatively small compared to other BBQ places in Seattle. The "hot" BBQ sauce was actually spicy! The potato salad and baked beans were very mediocre and the corn bread was cold and not very tasty at all.

  • Christy T.

Amazing! This is my third time here and it's always great. Ribs fall off the bone, sauce has a spice to it and the baked beans have just the right amount of sweetness. Brought my dad here twice and he loves it (he's from Tennessee so pretty picky). Only suggestion would be honey butter for the cornbread.

  • Dan M.

I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. I love the tangy-ness of the hot sauce juxtaposed with their cole slaw. It's an amazing combination. The only thing I get is the pulled pork sandwich. Along with the sauce & slaw, its a great combination and very consistent week-to-week. The staff is very friendly and takes care of their own. I agree with other Yelpers that this place doesn't exactly fit into any existing construct of a BBQ type (such as Texas style, North Carolina, Memphis, etc)...but that is what makes it unique and enjoyable, IMHO. Definitely worth a try...good eats for the money and you can even get your oil changed next door while you eat!

I was very hesitant to try this place, as I never seem to be impressed with BBQ places in the northwest. However, I would highly recommend them! The portions were perfect - not too much or too little. The meat was flavorful and tender, and had almost no fat. My only critique (which wasn't worth docking them a star) was that I've had better sauces. The mild was pretty tasty, but the medium was awfully spicy for BBQ sauce. It covered the flavor of the meat too much, so I'd hate to try the hot. Easy fix - order the sauce on the side so you don't have to commit.

Quick update to my previous post; I just ordered the Beef Brisket the other day, OMG this is frigg'n amazing! It is FORK tender; i.e. no knives needed! Wow... ************* I'll say this, as a Nebraskan that is SUPER picky about my BBQ/beef, I don't write 5 stars lightly. I'm not saying it's the best BBQ I've ever had, but hey, it's pretty darn great, and the folks that run it are just the sweetest family you could come across. I haven't explored the whole menu yet, but the BBQ sandwiches (Pork, Beef, Chicken) are all VERY solid, love the baked beans, and the ribs were something I would certainly go back for. They do "Texas Style BBQ" pretty well for Seattle. :) Hope this post draws the neighborhood to them, I'm a fan and others in North Seattle should give them a shot, you'll be back!

It's Texas style barbecue, but very generic feeling. All of the meat was juicy, but not particularly flavorful. The portions are small for the price. The Christian radio was distracting from my meal.

Meh. I really wanted to like this place considering its rather close to our house. Unfortunately, the baked beans were rather tasteless, our cornbread muffin wasn't warm, and the pork ribs I ordered were tender, but had no "crispy" texture as I would expect. Rather soft. The folks here are very friendly, but I would definitely rather take my BBQ craving to Roro's in Wallingford.

I've tried pretty much all the handful of BBQ joints in North Seattle and Texas Style BBQ (that's what it's called now) is definitely a solid option. I walked into the shop today and was immediately immersed in the aroma of smoky meats. I ordered the pulled pork dinner plate, which comes with a cornbread muffin, baked beans, a side of your choosing, and pulled pork with their mild homemade BBQ sauce. For the side, I decided to go with the coleslaw since the owner said he preferred it over the potato salad, which was the other option. I thought it was mostly a takeout place, but the inside was kinda cute. It has an old-timey feel to it with a black and white tiled floor and wood decor. I would definitely consider eating in the next time I'm there. Service was efficient and friendly so no complaints there. Now onto the food, the pulled pork was just as it should be: tender and juicy without much fat. The mild BBQ sauce was sweet yet tangy and it had a healthy amount of kick to it. The coleslaw was probably one of the best I've had in a while. It was refreshing and had a unique flavor that made it stand out from your typical run-of-mill slaw. Unfortunately, the other sides did not stand out quite as much. The baked beans were fine but tasted like your regular canned beans. The cornbread muffin was slightly dry and had a sweet but overall boring flavor. However, the meat and coleslaw were good enough to make me want to go back and try their other items. Portions and prices were very reasonable too. I'll be back!

Great tasting BBQ. The pulled pork and the ribs are excellent, and they make their own BBQ sauce! Real southern style with just enough kick. The only downside is if you order something that is not on special, it can be a bit expensive. I have yet to find better BBQ in Seattle.

Great little solo discovery in Greenwood, think this guy owns a teriaki restaurant as well and I have heard it is highly rated as well! Location is right next to jiffy lube on greenwood & 105, small eating area and pretty basic setup, food smells good and is backed up by great taste and decent value.... For around $10 you can get a nice dinner entree, I usually get the pulled pork and I am satisfied every time, chips and soda are available in classic bbq fashion, paper plates and tangy sauce, it is definitely one of the best spots in north seattle! Service is friendly and the parking is right outside and they take all forms of payment... Tip: Bomb, really good bbq i usually get the pulled pork or the brisket, good service and it comes out relatively quickly.

Always on the hunt for good BBQ in Seattle. A tall order for these parts. BBQ is an extremely touchy subject as well. That being said, I decided to check the grub here out. Anywho, I got the 2 meat combo with pork and beef ribs and an additional half pound order of beef brisket. Brisket tasted a bit more like pot roast smothered in a thick bbq sauce. I ordered the hot stuff but not much of a kick here. The ribs both had much of the silver skin on so they were a bit chewier and harder to bite through then they had to be. I liked the coleslaw a lot. I was suprised to see steamed white rice on the menu but didn't order it during this visit. Rice would go with ribs right?

How can it be a BBQ joint and they are out of cornbread and potato salad?!?! Seriously! I haven't even gotten my meal yet and I want to leave. Should have told me before I paid! Turkey was yummy, but the coleslaw tasted packaged even though they claimed they made it. Made it out of a package from Cisco or Food Services I'm thinking.

I would say this place is on par with other BBQ places in Seattle, but a better value. I had the "Light plate" combo which is choice of meat, cornbread, and choice of side. I opted for the pulled pork with BBQ sauce (on the side) and potato salad. First of all, this is a lot of food for a "light meal" and a good value. The plate came with about a half pounds worth of pulled pork. It had a slightly subtle smoky flavor (which was odd to me, because the inside of the restaurant smells smoky). The pork was fork tender and moist. The (medium) sauce was peppery and sweet (Texas style is what they specialize in). The cornbread was very fluffy and muffin like. The potato salad was mustard based and pretty good. Overall, not bad. When you have a hankering for BBQ/comfort food in the Northgate/Greenwood area, this place will hit the spot.

This place is good if I'm hungry and in the mood for a pulled pork sandwich or something like that. I don't really have a horse in the race regarding the perpetual controversy over what constitutes "true" barbeque, and I have no idea how Manna stacks up to the "authentic" stuff. What I will say is that the sauce is just slightly too sweet for my liking, but the meat is tender and the rolls are nice and soft. The sides are boring, but fine. The decor is what you'd expect at a typical teriyaki or pho place -- mismatched Value Village knick knacks, gold-framed travel posters, a television blaring Judge Alex, and dozens of outdated, sauce-stained copies of Newsweek lying around. And if there was any ambiance to be gleaned from all of that, it would be obliterated by the bright fluorescent lights overhead. The guy behind the counter is nice, but interaction always seems awkward for some reason. Manna's not gonna win any barbeque awards, it's not a cozy or even particularly comfortable place to eat, but it does fill a certain void, especially now that the OK Corral down the street has closed. There are times when a halfway decent pulled pork sandwich is the best thing in the world.

Wife and I each had the pulled pork sammich. I had high expectations from a lot of the reviews on here, but it was nothing special. I much prefer Boar's Nest, and would also choose Smokin' Pete's over Manna. We each paid extra for cornbread and it was not even close to good. With the other bbq places in Ballard (and Bitterroot on the way!) we won't be going back here.

I am a Texan that has lived in the PNW for one year. So far, this is the best BBQ that I have had out here. The sauce is wonderful, I got mild but if you are feeling adventurous you can get medium or spicy. The menu makes me laugh though... they have sliced beef and chopped pork sandwiches but no chopped beef sandwich? I wanted to ask for one but decided it would be too confusing to try! For some authentic feel, they need to add fried okra to the menu and some good ol buttered Texas toast!

Hmmmm. I guess I'm a BBQ connoisseur now, because after eating some good meat in Tennessee, and having more than a few sandwiches at another local place in town, I was unimpressed by this place. And by unimpressed, I mean that it was a middle-of-the-road three-star experience - better than eating elsewhere, but not particularly stand-outish in any aspect of the meal. I had a pork sandwich with medium sauce, which was decent - it was the special, and potato salad on the side. I think I should have gotten the hot sauce. The value is pretty good, but I have a short list of places in town that serve excellent BBQ, and I'm wavering on whether or not to add this place to the list. Better than meh, but not better than that. 3 stars.

Calling all Texans... and/or people who like the grilled meats! The BBQ here is phenomenal. And while I've been informed by a real Texan that it's almost traditional Big Star barbe, the addition of a pickle bar and some extra sauce on the table in squeeze bottles would make it 100% solid. Do not let this bizarre location fool you. This is the real friggin' deal. I went with the 1/2 portion of smoked pork ribs (in mild, medium, or hot sauce) with a choice of one side (go with the 'slaw- it's fantastic) and a cornbread muffin for about $10. My gent had the brisket sandwich with the potato salad side for $6. With water an an additional side, the total came to just under $21. The ribs were excellent, smoked to perfection in house- right in back, actually. The sandwich was perfect and according to the Texan, only needed pickles and a little more sauce. The portions are decent and filling, but aren't over the top too much. The kitsch factor is most definitely a factor, the service is great and the folks here are so nice, this is easily our new 'go to' for tasty authentic BBQ in SeaTown... And if that's not enough for you, two of out two Texans have given this joint their thumbs up. Convincing enough for you? It is for me.

Decent, but not awesome, barbecue place. Prices are a little on the high side (~$15 for two meats, cornbread, a side, and baked beans) considering the food-to-go ambience. I ordered the baby back ribs and brisket. Side choices are limited to rice, potato salad, and cole slaw - I wish they had mac & cheese or fries! The good thing is that you can specify mild, medium, or hot bbq sauce. My medium sauce was barely spicy at all and I found my bf's hot sauce much more to my liking. The pork ribs were tasty, but the brisket was slightly too dry and tough. I tried bites of the chicken (most and tender) as well as a beef rib (tasty). The sides were ok, cornbread was a little too dry, potato salad lacked zing, but the coleslaw was decent. Overall, a satisifying meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. I'm also not a huge fan of the styrofoam containers.

I've lived in Seattle for 3 years now and have found several BBQ joints then the other day I was trying to avoid HWY 99 and I spied with my little eye, Manna Texas Style Smoked BBQ. I didn't have a chance to pull a quick rickie into the parking lot without cutting anyone off so I decided to give this place a shot the next time I had to hit Home Depot; today was the day. I went in and the smell hit me just right, next thing I know I'm trying to decide what I want with a mouthful to taste buds screaming for a jihad on some BBQ. I was greeted and presented with the daily special which was the BBQ pork on a bun and a side of potato salad. I went with the medium sauce after learning my lesson eating Pecos's hot BBQ sauce, yowza! The guy working the counter asked if this was my first time coming in and I said yes, he assured me that I would be back after trying it so that got me pretty excited and I tore my @ss home and unwrapped the sandwich. First impressions were good, the bun was good size, the pork covered the bun, and there was plenty of sauce to go with it. After a few bites I couldn't stop thinking about how tender the meat was, which was immediately proceeded by devouring the rest and wanting more. Luckily, I had the potato salad which was so-so, I like egg in my potato salad and I'd eat it again, but I think I'll go for the coleslaw next time. I have to agree with most of my fellow other Texans here, this place just needs to offer up some pickles, jalapeno's, and some extra sauce. Either way this place is muy bueno and I'll be heading back again to try the ribs and a few other things on the menu.....

Koreans sure know how to work their magic on meat. I recommend the turkey bbq sandwich, but I've heard others rave about the pulled pork lunch special. I wish my stomach was big enough to fit a slice of their pecan pie and cornbread muffin.

TEXAS STYLE Bar=B=Q. I was expecting this giant Texan with a mustache to appear behind the counter, but i saw this little tiny Korean Texan Lady instead. I started to smile to myself. I ordered ribs, baked potatoes, coleslaw and kinda wanted to ask for some kimchee if she had any in the back there but decided not to.. Ribs were moist and tender and all the other fixens tasted A OK. As usual I was a sloppy eater when its rib time and although i know my doctor insist on me to stay away from such greasy and fatty items, I just cant resist. The place is rather small, seating capacity of maybe 15 max. I notice an abundant amount of patrons entering and ordering for take-out and I am just assuming it is more comfortable for them to eat at home especially if you are shy grubbing in front of strangers especially when you know your hands and face will be covered in bbq sauce. Althogh I enjoyed the food, The layout of the parking and the location of the restaurant as well as the seating arrangement inside just felt uncomfortable as a dine in. Next time i probably just do the same as others and order for take-out.

Had the two meat, one side combo. Cornbread was meh, pork was great, beef was also good, but not great. Really wasn't that great overall though. Too much sauce put on the stuff by default. Don't get me wrong, I love some bbq sauce, but I want meat with sauce, not sauce with meat. Get it on the side if you can. I expected a lot from all of the great ratings. Much prefer smokin' petes.
