YUMMY! I went with some friends after hearing great things both from them and a co-worker. I can't believe I'd never been to this place before. So my co-worker is a vegetarian and had fallen in love with the Tofu Teriyaki. She went with her husband for lunch one day, planned on eating half her plate and before she knew it the whole thing was gone. She couldn't stop talking about it for days. Actually, she still brings it up from time to time. My good friends on the other hand are total meat eaters and mentioned this place several times and had tried both the sushi and teriyaki dishes. So I went one day with the friends. I don't eat seafood, so the sushi was pretty much off the table for me as they really only have cucumber rolls that don't contain fish. I was pretty content with trying out the Tofu Teryiaki though and GOODNESS! It was damn tasty. The tofu was just right - the fried kind, and perfect bite sized pieces. The sauce was perfection, and I can't wait to go back and get more.

This is a great, unassuming little place. The service is great, the food is cooked to order but shows up in an instant. I always go for some sushi, either a roll, or nigiri, or both. I also like the udon. They have wine and beer, and two or three nice sakes. It's Japanese first, but also offers some Chinese and a touch of Korean (homemade kimchi). If you're in the Magnolia, Queen Anne, Fremont, or Ballard areas, it's definitely worth a try.

What a surprise for a little place in Magnolia! Great food, excellent value and great for getting to go!

Average sushi, above average prices, friendly staff, below average facility. I go here fairly regularly because it's close, but I'm never that happy about it. The food is fine, but it's priced above that. Their rolls are better than their nigiri. Las Vegas roll is one of my favorites. Overall it's not a bad place, but don't go out of your way to come here. Also, I don't know anything about their Teriyaki, only their Sushi.

Great place! Nestled in magnolia, this place has tasty sushi, good teriyaki, and great Chinese dishes.

Knew right away when I walked in I was going to love the food. Sometimes you can just catch people really enjoying their food and know you will love it too. This is one of those places. The people eating were in no hurry and just enjoying their food, savoring eat morsel. So when I picked up mine and my friends order I was already jazzed to eat. We went to a nearby park and ate it on a picnic table over looking the bay. All I can say is that I regret not eating it right away. If it was that good after a short drive and letting it cool off, I can't even imagine how good it would have been fresh. I will make my way back to Seattle and Ichiro's one of these days!

We usually get sushi here, but I'm thinking I might need to try the teriyaki, based on the other reviews (which is saying A LOT, because I love me some sushi). We've eaten in the restaurant once and the service and food were both very good. It's a bit lacking in ambiance, though, so we've done takeout since then. The sushi is really great. I have been into crunchy/tempura rolls lately, and they have a good selection. We usually also get something salmony and tuna-y, and the fish is always fresh and flavorful. The rolls are fairly large - we ordered from there just the other day and had 5 rolls between my husband and myself (and an order of potstickers, which were good but superfluous, since there was SO MUCH SUSHI). We ate everything but two pieces, and were both totally overstuffed. We could have ordered two fewer rolls and still been full (I'm talking about the specialty rolls, here, not the plain ones, which are more normal sized). It's not super cheap (we spent about $60 on the aforementioned selection), but it's certainly within the range of normal for a sushi joint (and obviously you can spend a lot less if you don't completely overindulge like we did!) This place is solid, and unless we're after a fancy night out, we don't bother going anywhere else for sushi anymore.

A neighborhood favorite!! The sushi is fantastic, and the teriyaki is suprisingly healthy! Most teriyaki places serve up fatty chicken, but ichiro's is the leanest, meanest chicken in town. High quality everything, attentive staff, fast service. The only bad thing is that I am pregnant, and can't eat the sushi for 6 more months. I asked the chef if he could do a vegetarian roll, but he won't make anything special (meaning, his veggie rolls may still have raw fish remnants from other rolls being prepared at the same time). I really miss sushi!!

Affordable fresh sushi in a family friendly neighborhood restaurant. The space is small but they have interesting rolls including a Hawaiian roll with tuna and macadamia nuts. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly and there is usually plenty of street parking. They are so sweet to children here!

This is hands down the best Teriyaki in Seattle! I have tried and tried to find Teriyaki that is even close to as good as Ichiros and I haven't been able to do it. You will love their Spicy Chicken it is the best I have ever had. The only negative thing I can say is that they may have ruined other Teriyaki for me.

This is a great little Japanese restaurant hidden up near the Magnolia village. They have excellent daily specials and the portions are rather large. The teriyaki & tempura combo is huge! Also recommend the beef yakisoba.

So the other night I came across Yelp reviews for Ichiro. Everything written about Ichiro seemed positive, so I cajoled my fiancee to go with me. So glad we did! I had the chicken teriyaki because I figured that it had to be tried. My fiancee had the sukiyaki which he absolutely loved. We also got a spicy tuna roll. Way too much food for the two of us. It was all yummy though! The service was good and friendly and it is our new teriyaki place. :)

My first experience was 3 weeks ago when my neighbor who was moving requested to have her farewell dinner at this establishment. I'm a sushi snob and am very picky with the fish I eat. I grew up in Japan at a time when the sushi man used to come door to door (in the 60's). Much to my surprise the fish was fresh and pretty reasonably priced It was that good that I returned the very next day to get carry out. It's not Shiro's, but for the price, you really can't go wrong. the service was quick and the owners were very nice. For those of you who don't enjoy sushi, they also have a chinese menu and other asian dishes. Too bad they don't have Korean dishes, especially since the owners are Korean! :) I will be back again real soon....

Love this place! The food is good and I go back and forth with the Sukiyaki Don (My favorite), Udon soup, or Tempura. My son loves the Teriaki-Gyoza combo. I have had the beef teriaki and that is yummy too. The family always stops by to ask how we have been and it's always packed. The only thing that keep me from going every week are the prices. It's worth it though every now and then.

The staff is friendly and the sushi is fresh and delicious. We've ordered take-out time and time again. It's a treat to have a delicious sushi restaurant so close to where we live - so we look past the price tag every now and again. When we're not ordering up rainbow rolls and salmon nigiri, we're munching on the fresh tofu. My only complaint is that when it's busy and you're eating in the restaurant, they shuttle you out the door as soon as you're finished with that last bite.

Magnolia has about one of each type of restaurant, and this is the teriyaki one. A good neighborhood teriyaki joint, with sushi, beer, and sake too. I had the spicy chicken, and it was sweet but not too sugary and just spicy enough. Very fast for take out, about 5 minutes in and out. Very friendly staff. I hear that the sushi is very good, maybe next time.

This place reminds me Taishu shokudo in Japan. (Owner family looks not Japanese. It doesn't matter though.) Price is reasonable, taste is good. If they give us more amount then will be 5 stars.

This place is my new favorite! All natural fresh ingredients, an awesome menu, sake and beer, and a super fast friendly staff all add up to mean that this little spot probably won't stay undiscovered and empty for long. The restaurant is over-lit and the ambience sucks, which is unfortunate, because Ichiro is delicious and very 'mom and pop'. Give them your business, now!

  • Christian C.

Ichiro's is the restaurant my wife and I often like to come to either to dine in or do take-out since it's really close to where we live in Magnolia. The food is pretty decent and it's usually served pretty quickly. It's just one of those nice little mom-and-pop places that's handy to have around. Plus, all the meals are a good deal and also have generous portions, so much that my wife and I share the Chicken Teriyaki and Veggie Tempura Combo with Brown Rice and we're stuffed. The staff is also really friendly and I think is a family operated place. Whenever I come by the know my name and ask how my wife, brother and sister in law are doing.

I have had lunch here quite a few times. The teriyaki is very good and the portions are quite generous for the money. I have never had a bad experience and the staff is very nice.

i love this place. i can recommend it without hesitation. we've gotten take-out and dined in and every time it's been yum. love the chicken teriyaki, love the tempura (but you should eat it there...don't take it home or it won't be nice and crispy), love love love the shrimp crunch roll. don't hesitate! eat there!!

I'm not sure my questions were heard, interpreted or answered correctly and I may have gluten poisoning tomorrow, but the food was fabulous! Quick Tips: (I may or may not have understood these correctly--lost in translation) 1. They don't have green tea one month during the summer. It's too hot in July. 2. They have gluten free soy (Tamari) but only in little packets, so if you can't read the non-english writing on the soy packet, your options are to go without or trust them. 3. I ordered all gluten-free but my mouthwateringly awesome Canadian Roll came coated with 'Crystal Shrimp' not as in Castles or Meth, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't gluten-free. Although my rule is never to eat gluten when I ask and it's mistakenly delivered anyway, I broke my rule and it was The. Best. Roll. Ever. Hope I'm well tomorrow.

I was excited to find a sushi shop in our neighborhood. However, it was like a step above grocery store sushi. It was good, totally decent sushi. It just didn't taste...fresh. I didn't feel like the ocean was in my mouth, and usually I feel that way when eating sushi. This was good sushi, and I'll order it again when I just want some quick takeout. We ate inside, and they had a nice window a/c that kept the place surprisingly cool. They sat us as soon as we walked in the door and were very, very friendly. We ordered the shrimp and veggie tempura off the appetizer menu to start. I would not order it again. The tempura had no seasoning and slid off the veggies. I did like the choice of veggies though, a different assortment than I usually get-it had broccoli and onions included! The broth included to dip was good. I ordered the mexican roll which is a spicy california which I have ordered elsewhere many times. Usually it's a spicy mayo on top. This was spicy on the inside, no spicy mayo..and it was HOT. Like red pepper flake hot which is TOO hot for me. I had to buy another roll (regular california) because it was just too hot. Also the crab is likely imitation, it did not taste fresh or real. It wasn't bad though, just not great. I also ordered the shrimp tempura roll. This is my biggest issue with the place-they don't explain everything that's in the roll on the menu. This had teriyaki sauce all over the roll. I would have liked to have known that before ordering. It was very sticky, and very sweet. I liked the teriyaki sauce, but there was too much of it. The roll itself was very good though, and I'd order it again with less sauce. I will say the service was super fast and they were very friendly. Like I said, I'll be back for takeout when there's nothing in my house to eat, but I wouldn't consider it "going out for sushi" quality at all.

Good and bad here. Ordered Chix teriyaki and it came quick and was pretty good, but obviously made in advance and not great. I'll let you decide if that's good or bad... Service was awful. Ordered at the counter and the woman was rude, you know those kind of people who hear your question, but don't answer you and do what you ask. That, but surly. There seemed to be a lot of locals in the shop and they were obviously treated with more respect. Won't be back.

  • Justin C.

I'd recommend sticking with the teriyaki, as previous reviewers rant and rave about. I remember having the spicy chicken awhile back and it was good enough that I told myself I'd return again. Although this time I opted for the udon and 4-piece sushi which was nothing out of the ordinary, the cuts of nigiri were small and sad, and the salmon nigiri was the best tasting out of the staple assortment. I wouldn't recommend a time out with friends here, but a decent stop for a casual lunch break- wait, I guess that's how I'd describe any restaurant with the word Teriyaki in the title. Average.

They close at 9. We showed up at 8. About 8:30 they put all the chairs up in the restaurant around us and asked us to move all of our sushi to one plate so they could take the others away. Then they all stood at the counter and stared at us like we were lepers waiting for us to finish! Very rude. The sushi was only mediocre.

Ichiro Sushi and Teriyaki will always hold a special place in my heart since it's close to the park my fiance and I said I love you to each other for the first time. :) I love the food here - both sushi and teriyaki! I usually order teriyaki when we come here and eat, but their sushi is very fresh and each piece of sashimi/roll has plenty of fish on it (compared to other sushi places that give you a disproportionate amount of fish vs. rice. My favorite teriyaki dish to get here is the Spicy Chicken - it's actually spicy and I love how the dish comes with mushrooms and onions! Another thing I love that they do is put the salad in another box. It drives my crazy when teriyaki places put the salad in the same to-go box as the entree so then they can give you even less rice and meat. Ichiro gives you PLENTY of rice and meat with each order. Each entree is good enough for at least two meals for me! The people that work here are also VERY nice people. You can tell just by talking to them that they actually enjoy the restaurant biz and just want to see everyone have a happy meal at Ichiro. :)

Is it the best teriyaki or sushi in Seattle? Probably not. Is it a decent option when you live in Magnolia and having a hankering for one or the other? Yep. I've eaten in and carried out; happy with all my experiences. The teriyaki portions are pretty good value for money... I haven't tried any of their bentos or Chinese dishes. One caution about carrying out sushi - they will bag it with warm dishes and that'll warm things up a bit. It's not really hot per se, but it's not how you're used to eating sushi. You're also not going to want to carry out things like hand rolls or salmon skin. You know, thing that can get funked with steam. I'm not sure it's worthy of four stars, but I'll do it 'cause there aren't a lot of options 'round these parts.

I love this place! It has sushi for me and all kinds of dishes for my un loving sushi husband. It is quick, has takeout, has alcohol, is inexpensive, and has lots of choices. it is also near where we live, on Magnolia.

Ichiro can be great, and can be meh. Tonight we had meh. The egg rolls seemed to have been fried a day ago, and the teriyaki chicken was pretty dry. Already in the bin. The beef was good.

Meh... Got the Veggie Yakisoba. BeWArE LOTS of Cabbage . The sauce was a bit watery as well. The Sushi was pretty sub par, but from what we've experienced in Magnolia, so are all the other restaurants

This place was a random find but we are SO HAPPY we found it. Tucked away in Magnolia it's on a quiet street with good parking. The sushi was so fresh and delicious. Best of all, they don't charge too much. We tried the Hawaiian roll (pictured), Indian summer roll, the dynamite roll, and gyoza. Would recommend all of these things. Their teriyaki menu looked amazing too. Can't wait to be back!

  • Bruno B.

The place is ok, we had the yacisiba and the teriyaki tofu and it was ok, the sauce was not overpower which is ok, but it would have been nice to have some on the side the veggie sushi roll was ok, not the best I've had but not the worse either. Once again magnolia food is mildly disappointing and probably won't be back

    (3)
  • Abby S.

The servings are generous, the staff is helpful and friendly, and there is something on the (huge) menu for everyone! We sit down for dinner everytime we go, but it seems like a lot of people take out. Sometimes there are noisy/crying kids in there, but it's Magnolia so it's to be expected. They are able to handle requests if you want to modify your meal (food allergies or pickiness) which is so nice.

    (4)
  • Ben P.

Do you like goldfish? Do you like ice cream??? Then this is your place! The goldfish ice cream is the only thing authentic Japanese and is a must try! Everything else, however, was mediocre. The yakisoba was closer to what you'd expect from lo mein. They used the same frozen veggie stir fry mix in everything. The. Kung pao tofu was spineless and bland. But get the goldfish ice cream!

The food selection ranges from Japanese to Korea and other Asian dishes. As for the flavor, I tried the Korean dish (Pork Bulgogi). I would say that Ichiro serves quite a large plate compared to other Korean restaurants around the Ave. It would have been better if the ambience and environment is a little much cleaner but it's convinent for a quick note.

We discovered this place when lived in Magnolia, and it's so good that we keep going there even as we moved to Ballard. The stuff is very friendly there and food is delicious! Plates are very big and I was never able to eat it all (honestly, almost everywhere in the US I ask boxes, but here you need two box (joking:)).

This place is great. Food is awesome, the people there, while not perfect english speakers, are kind, genuine and remembered us after first visit. My only complaint is that when I ordered sushi, I got a different kind of fish than I was expecting. For that, I deduct one star. Everything else I've ever gotten has been amazing, which is impressive because the menu is quite extensive.

We absolutely love this place. We dont eat sushi so cant review that but every single other thing we've had here has been amazing. Spicy chicken teriyaki, chicken and broccoli, gereral tso chicken, and my absolute favorite....spicy ramen soup with dumplings. Clean place and reasonably priced. Dont hesitate to stop here.

Thank goodness for Yelp! This is a place that one wouldn't even typically notice when driving or walking by. We happened to be in the area, wanted a tasty lunch, and Yelp directed us here. Delish! I was really in the mood for scallop sashimi, which they didn't have ... so I went with spicy chicken (I know, right? Not similar at all.) I loved mine and my spouse loved his chicken teriyaki. Friendly service, too. And I loved that they asked if I wanted brown rice. Yes, please! Some say it is "expensive." C'mon, really?

    (5)
  • Chris B.

This is average sushi. The fact that they have several types of food like terriyaki chicken and udon/ramen and sushi should be a good indication of the type of restaurant. Probably good for your average lunch, but not for those that know and love sushi.

    (3)
  • Sam B.

The teriyaki and tempura are great. Most of their sushi is good as well. I 'm not a fan of their spicy tuna rolls.

Look, bottom line: Don't go here if you're going to be a snooty sushi elitist. There are dozens of fancy sushi bars in Seattle, take your pick and spend a bundle at any of them and feel free to review them out the wazoo for the quality of the fish you're eating that's probably not even the real deal anyways. This place is simple and fast and easy on the pocketbook. Having spent three years in Japan, I can say with some minute authority that this is the kind of shop average joe Japanese folks stop in to eat at next to train stations and the local grocery. It's not fancy, but it's tasty, nourishing and great for a quick bite on a budget. The chicken bowl, if you get it on a weekday lunch special, is cheap cheap cheap and very very tasty - not swimming in sauce - with lots of fresh veggies mixed in... cabbage, carrots, broccoli, and NOT overcooked mushy junk like that horrible chinese buffet you know you're guilty of sneaking in on the side sometimes. The bento boxes are decent, not the best you'll probably find, but not overpriced and well prepared. The sushi is tasty and prepared only when you order it, yes they have their own sushi chef. It's good. Simple, but good! With all the fancy 'gourmet' type restaurants in Magnolia's little shopping block, it's refreshing and comforting to have found this little gem in my new neighborhood after just moving here. A real Mom and Pop place you can love and feel good having a tasty lunch (Japanese couple owns and runs it).

Tasty! Lunch bento was so filling I wish I had split that with my wife. We also tried the cherry blossom roll.

It is so nice to have a delicious sushi place right here in Magnolia. Their menu is pretty large for such a small shop, so you're guaranteed to find something you like. My favorites are the Crystal Shrimp roll, and the Canadian roll. They also have yummy pork teriyaki, and bento box lunch specials. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. They also provide take-out service. I've called so many times that they know my order by heart!

I just joined yelp so I could review this place. Spicy tuna rainbow roll was $13 and tasted like grocery store pre-packaged. Asked for extra ginger and didn't get any. Gross.

Great sushi. Great Teryaki. Just be careful becuase they overcharge you for EVERY menu change..... want Tofu insteatd of chicken? "$1.00!) Brown rice instead of hite? ($1.00!!) But great sushi and Teryaki otherwise!

One of the best Teriyaki places in Seattle. Fast and friendly service. I was a little hesitant to order sushi at this place when I first went but gave it a shot and glad I did---YUM. Went I was a resident of Magnolia I would go here all the time, but now that I am back in QA it just seems so out of the way. You don't really go to Magnolia unless you live there or have a reason to go there, so I guess next time I visit my mom I'll have to make a stop by here to get my fix!

I'll go out on a limb here and will say that Ichiro might be the best teriyaki in Seattle. We've tried many other places, even supposedly 5-star fancy pants restaurants, and Ichiro is the only place that is consistently good, not at all greasy, and the meat is great quality. They even season the rice really well. We usually get a couple of sushi rolls when we visit, and the Mexican roll is quite good. The tempura is worth a try, as well, with a nice mix of fresh veggies like green beans, potatoes, onion, and squash. We've always had great service, and the some of the same family members are there whenever we visit. There are clearly a bunch Ichiro regulars, as the staff recognizes us and others when we come in the door. It helps that their prices are reasonable, too!

The problems here are much bigger than a language barrier, AND I really am an ESL teacher! I phoned in an order, using the # (47 Bento, I believe.) She repeated name. I said, yes that I want two of those dinners. One chicken, one beef. When my husband brought order home, it was a disaster. No sides for one of the meals (meaning a missing soup, sushi, tempura) Therr were 3 salads (not 2) that were laden in water and a side of dried out chicken. Cost-$37.00. As i started to serve food I saw there was a problem. My husband said it was a madhouse there and go back later. Very bad customer service. Of course, the customers fault. They were argumentative, defensive and accusatory. The woman owner said I told her wrong incorrectly. I defended that. Then, she said my husband should have checked order before leaving. Then they denied shorting me the food. I requested a credit for the one meal that I didn't get sides for and the missing soup. Using some weird logic, she returned $7.00 in cash, from a $37.00 bill. Plus a half a cup. Of soup! I've eaten lunch in restaurant before with no problem. But now two of my past three dinner carry outs were screwed up. This one, so badly, it was worth going back to talk to them in person. And I was treated very rudely. Plus food mediocre.

I never used to like teriyaki. To me the syrup always tasted like laundry soap to me (weird...I know). Or the chicken was too grimy and tasted like rubber. My problem like many people in the Seattle area was finding a GOOD teriyaki place. Well, I have been going to Ichiro for about 4 years and haven't turned back. The chicken pieces are large and very tender. The best part to me is the syrup! It is nicely thick and tasty. The sushi is about average. As a whole everything I have tried has been extremely fresh. The service is always friendly and quick. I usually get my to go order in about 10 minutes. Ichiro is a really nice restaurant to have in our neighborhood. And you know what? If I move away I will probably still make the drive over here for teriyaki.

I love this place - great food, big portions, awesome service! Each time I've gone in, the main woman is always very kind... I feel bad now that I don't know her name! haha I've tried a ton of things on the menu, and I've never been disappointed.

This place cracks me up sometimes. We usually always seem to go when it is absolutely slammed, which can make for some chaotic yet comical moments around this place. I'm guessing it's owned and operated by a family. You get that feeling, because just like you would act around your own family, they do here as well. The family is all very nice, even if somewhat flustered during the ultra busy moments. As for the food, I order the same thing every time. What can I say, I'm a creature of habit. Mango Tango Roll, Rainbow Roll, & Crunchy Roll. They are always awesome. I leave and 3 days later, I'm still craving their sushi.

This place is right around the corner from where I work so I finally decided to stop in and check it out. I am a vegetarian, and sometimes sushi and/or teriyaki places do not have much selection for me. This is not the case here. They have a vegetarian roll section for sushi, and plenty of labeled vegetarian options on the rest of the menu. Best part, it was DELICIOUS!! And the staff was super friendly to me! I will definitely be going back soon!

I love Ichiro. The service is great, they remember me no matter how much time has past. They understand that to make a mark ina community they have to be the community. The sushi is reasonably priced for its quality. Great place to grab a quiet lunch and read the paper.

My girlfriend and I were really jonesing for some good udon and tempura, and since I don't know anything about the Magnolia area, she recommended this establishment. We had the tempura and udon and it was a lot more than we expected as far as portions go. The chicken teriyaki was also plentiful as well. Plus it didn't taste too salty like most teriyaki does. The staff was also pretty friendly for an Asian restaurant. Not to sound racist, but there is a reputation for very cold service at times from these places. Not here. It's warm and welcoming. Very clean and organized too. It may look like a hole in the wall on the outside but like a TARDIS it's bigger on the inside. Highly recommended.

I have eaten regularly at this restaurant for the last 10 years. I have never been disappointed. My favorite is the grilled teriyaki chicken (without the sauce), but would say the same for the Mongolian Beef, Yakisoba, or just about anything else on the menu. June and Andy create a warm atmosphere in this restaurant that makes it feel like home. After eating at some of the snobby, high-end restaurants in Seattle (Canlis, Met, etc) and being disappointed, I always go back to Ichiro for a good meal.

Great teriyaki never had the sushi but hear its good. Probably my go to for teriyaki in the area and I live in queen Anne

I eat here at least once a month and have the mongolian beef every time. It's the best mongolian beef I've ever had, delish. I don't order sushi there so I can't really attest to that. One funny thing about this place is when I call in my order, I never know what they're saying. It's just a matter of recognizing the tones and fluctuations, if the voice goes up, it's usually a question which I always answer yes to. If it goes down I usually just say bye and hang up. I always get what i order so it's not really an issue.

I would have never thought that I would want to make a trip to Magnolia for a meal. However, when your child finishes up a baseball game at 8pm, the sign for Ichiro Teriyaki is like a McDonald's sign on a desolate dirt road. Much to my surprise, the food is great.! I am not a big teriyaki person, but when I saw the big plates of chicken and rice, I could not help but notice how big the servings were for under $7. I had the Kalbi that filled a large hot plate that could have been easily for 2-3 people. The sushi is also very fresh. I have been back since my first visit and the friendly service and great food will keep me coming back. It is also very affordable!

This place is the bomb-dot-com! Great food at a great price and the service is excellent...if you need a quick delicious meal, this place is it! We've been here many, many times and we've never had a bad thing. Best thing to order: Definitely go with the Dinner (or Lunch) Bento Box... it comes with an assortment of items nd they are all good. For sushi, the Ichiro roll is awesome!

So sitting around the house one night and flipping through Yelp reviews, we were enticed to drive over the bridge, up the hill, down the hill, and around the bend to that curious neighborhood of Magnolia. Alas, I left Ichiro disappointed. The other and I ordered a roll to share, I had the Udon and Nigri combo, and he had the tempura and udon combo. Fair to say with Udon, rolls, nigri, and tempura it should be a representation of the food qualify. I found the nigri to be of poor quality and very tough. It seemed as if the fish had been frozen and thawed a couple of times. The Udon was good, and the tempura pretty run of the mill. The roll I found to be mediocre and the rice not so tasty. While there the locals in the nieghborhood seemed to be regulars...so not sure if we just hit a bad night or what. We were hoping for a neighborhood gem...and found a run of the mill Teriyaki joint.

Think this is one of the best gems in Magnolia. The food is delicious and fresh. Portions are ginormous. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I ordered the sukiyaki don and it was amazing. Way better than I had expected. Sweet simmered beef with a sweet broth (more like a light sauce), veggies and tofu over rice. I've also ordered the tempura udon and I have never seen so much tempura in my life. They plopped down a plate with about 7 pieces of tempura (1 shrimp and a mix of veggies) and I thought they had mistakenly given me a tempura appetizer or entree until they brought the udon noodles in broth. All the other times I've ordered tempura udon at other places, I've only gotten about 3 pieces of tempura (2 shrimp or 1 shrimp and some veggies). Will definitely come back!

One of my Favorite Teriyaki places in town. Service is always fast and very pleasant. The owners are always happy to see you even if your not a regular. The food has always been well prepared and of quality. I am a creature of habit typically but I have to say that at the restaurant I am happy to try new thing. It is a must do if your looking for lunch and in the Village.

Great, great sushi & a quality Japanese restaurant in Magnola. It's worth the trip and don't forget to try the White Fin Tuna or their Chicken Teriyaki!

I am constantly amazed at how good this place continues to be. It's a hole in the wall shop run by a few friendly folks who serve up some delicious food. There is not much seating and the decor is nothing special, but those things don't matter if the food is good. I venture in here when I'm especially hungry since I can count on the portions being huge. I usually go with spicy chicken since they actually put some kick into it, but I've also tried beef and pork; all were good. (I have not tried the sushi here so I can't comment on it). The waitress is very friendly and takes the time to remember the names of returning customers. She also does a good job making the rounds with the water, which I am thankful for while sweating over my dish. There is a good variety to choose from on the menu and the prices are average but well worth it due to the large portions. There are a lot of teriyaki places that try to win you over with gimmicks like flat screen TVs to watch, but Ichiro manages to shine among them with nothing but pure teriyaki goodness. It's definitely worth the trip to Magnolia for it.

This is a good neighborhood sushi place. I like the rainbow roll, and everything is pretty tasty. My first experience wasn't the best, but I'm glad I went back.

Oddly colored fish and slightly substandard cooked foods made for a mediocre dining experience that cost a little bit more than the better sushi places we normally visit. Also, at least half of the diners the night we were there were under 10 years old.

Decent food. Good selection of sushi. Quick service. I had Albacore and Red Snapper sushi and the cuts were decent except the sushi rice was warm. Also the price point is on the high side for the quality. I noticed that they pre-slice their sushi which as far as i know is not a good practice. The teriyaki chicken is exactly what you would expect from this kind of restaurant. Nothing special and nothing bad. I'd come back here again for random lunches in the neighborhood.

For me this is as good as it gets, I just love unpretentious quaint neighborhood restaurants. The food, service, and atmosphere are all exceptional, the servings generous, and the prices reasonable. The sushi is (surprisingly) as good or better than many of the better known sushi spots in the city. My new go to spot!

Great food, but the menu could use some updating. Nothing special about the salads but the entrees definitely stand out.

ooooook. So the sushi was average, not bad but nothing amazing. They are very quick, but as someone else observed.. the fish was pre sliced. The pricing was a little higher then other places I've been too in Seattle with much better food. When our bill came it was $30 for two of us (we had three rolls all together - one of which was a standard spicy Cal. and some miso). We asked them to split the bill down the middle on two cards. A man comes back (owner I assumed) laughs at us and says "check bill, sign please". We notice that both of us had been charged $25, separately. We tell them the bill is wrong, and to check again - also the bill was not itemized, which is kind of sketch when ordering individual sushi rolls and/or sashimi. The new bill now says $15 and some change, each. What? So the bill is now $30 total again, but when you were charging us both the full amount it was $25? No one spoke English, we asked twice, two different people - for the voided receipt on the first charge. No luck, we have to get up and go ask for it... another 10 minutes trying to convey what we want. cashier FAIL. Sushi is average and slightly over priced, they only have two beer choices, didn't really check out the sake so I don't know. Service was sub par, restaurant and bathrooms very clean. Also... anything other then amazing service when there are only two tables occupied? Seriously?

I've only had the sushi here but I've had it many times -- never disappointed, never spend all that much. The menu has all the classic sushi rolls and sushi options, but if you want something more daring I recommend the specials. I've had some really cool sushi creations off of the specials list: sushi topped with mango and sweet syrupy stuff, sushi covered with spicy diced tomato, scallion and sesame etc.... all surprisingly good for an in-and-out kind of sushi place. And as has been mentioned, the people there are really nice

  • Benjamin L.

Decent teriyaki (I haven't yet tried the sushi). Very friendly owners, especially once they found out I was half-Korean. I do wish they had a few more Korean items on the menu, but they said they'd tried before and it just wasn't popular enough. C'mon, Magnolia folks -- bibimbap is good for you! Anyway, glad it's here -- will be back. Still hoping for the addition of bibimbap or duk mandu guk ;)

Avoid the sushi. You can do much better. Ditto, the chicken teriyaki. However, some of the menu items are good. Try the prawns tempura. 4 for $5. Best for takeout. Dine-in experience is 'diner like.'

My initial impression of this place was that it was a solid but unremarkable teriyaki outlet, and for a time, I just bought chicken teriyaki there when it was convenient for me. As I was waiting for my teriyaki one day, I scanned their menu and, to my surprise, saw some Japanese dishes are almost never offered in Seattle. In American culture, there is a sandwich-taco-pizza trinity, and you cannot visit a town, urban district, or food court where this trinity is not well represented. The equivalent Japanese trinity is noodle-katsu-donburi (noodle=ramen and udon, and donburi includes curry rice although that's blasphemous). Unfortunately Seattle has not embraced any member of this trinity (ramen in particular is regarded as a gruel that one tolerates as an impoverished college student and then nevermore), and thus these foods are rarely served. Yes, I occasionally see some of these items offered by your hip sushi joints and the Boom Noodles of the world, but that doesn't count. These foods are not meant to be served in the company of pretty hostesses, expensive sake and hip decor. You're supposed to be at a little table alone, order your miso ramen or curry udon (preferably from a handwritten sign stuck to the wall), specify the optional kimchee, the optional $2 noodle reload, steamed gyoza (not crunchy fried, although they have that too), wolf it down, be satisfied, and proceed with your day. You can do that here, and that kicks ass.

This place rocks. Their Teriyaki is amazing! The best in Seattle for sure! I used to go here probably every other day. Their rice is sticky and their teriyaki sauce is what makes this place the best! Every place has their own version, and if you like thick, syrupy sauce... this is it! Their chicken is also really good. Not too fatty, not too lean! Just right. Its a cute little joint with good people, and good service. I have had their sushi which is just OK. Typical sushi. Nothing special. But their teriyaki is what is amazing about this place. Good eats...

    1. Food is fantastic. Go outside your comfort zone and experiment with some if the many dishes. 2. The sushi is always good and well prepared. 3. They know their regulars by name and their usual orders. 4. Very friendly, even when super busy. 5. For the amount of food they give you, price is very reasonable. 6. Always clean. Especially the bathrooms. I don't care how good the food is, if the main area and bathrooms aren't clean, question the kitchen.

Staff is so hard-working and friendly. They remember the regulars by name, a very warm, family feeling! Food is great. Everything is made to order and fresh! In my opinon, the chicken yakisoba is one of the best I've ever tasted in town AND in Japan.

The roof (of my mouth), the roof (of my mouth), the roof (of my mouth), is on fire! We don't need no water (beer), let the mother effer' (myself) burn! Every now and then I make some poor decisions - some of which are detrimental to my health, others simply make me look like an idiot - and thinking the spicy chicken at Ichiro was just as not-spicy as every other teriyaki joint happened to be a big boo-boo I made last night. "Oh, I'll just grab some extra hot sauce and red pepper flakes when I get home. I'm a man, I can take it." Boy was I wrong! Not about the being a man part (because honey, I'm about as manly as a.... wait. I'll uh, save that for private love making time) but about the I-can-handle-a-bushel-of-spices-all-up-in-and-around-my-eating-receptacle part. Foolish was I for slapping on all that extra hot sauce, for the bits of fowl goodness - foul meaning chicken, not bad - that were not drenched in red death were perfectly spicy. Fantastic, delicious, and amazing. But what the heck is up with teriyaki joints and their salads? I usually just ignore that little styrofoam/now-environmentally-friendly treasure chest that contains a handful of bagged lettuce alongside a little pool of "dressing" and go straight for the chicken. I've never had an eye opening experience when shoving a teriyaki joint's salad down my throat and I'm okay with that. If there's rice and chicken in the much larger treasure chest, it's all good my little sugar baby. Service here was fantastic and I am about 89% sure I will be back to try the spicy chicken again - sans extra chili sauce. I've been told they make sushi here as well... but maybe that's just from the name.

Another great spot a couple blocks from my house. Gotta love it. Gotta love how nice they are here. You can always count on seeing the same faces working and they make a point of making you feel welcome. Even last night when I got there at 8:59PM they didn't look bummed that I got there a minute before closing, haha. I always get the same thing, #12 Chicken Teriyaki and Gyoza and it's always the same - DELICIOUS. Their rice is perfectly cooked, a lot of other 'yaki spots have horrible dry rice and it's a big pet peeve of mine. Ichiro's is perfectly moist as it should be, and not overcooked either. The chicken is always perfect and is of the best meat, there is no weird gristle like lesser teriyaki establishments. Two out of the seven times I've gotten food here, I get home and open up my to-go container excitedly and notice there is no sauce for the gyoza or teriyaki sauce, but that is only a minor bummer because everything is already so good. Their beverage selection is really large, like too large almost. They have all bases covered. I think next time I visit Ichiro I will have to try their sushi which I see a lot of Yelpers are fans of. I am slowly working my way around to eating every eatery in Magnolia, and so far so good!

I used to love this place so much. The food was very good, but now sometimes it is a little overdone and mushy and the sushi is way too expensive for being basic rolls. I think it's worth a try if you like it, but it's not as good as it used to be.

I've driven past this little place numerous times, but for some reason last night, I decided to pull a U-turn and go back. Probably because I knew we had nothing at home for dinner and it was almost 8pm and my son was starving from his baseball game ... whatever the reason, I'm glad we did! First sniff inside the door and I knew we were on to something. The lady behind the register took my to-go order (chicken breast teriyaki, yakisoba with chicken, gyoza - nothing fancy), I handed her my card and when she handed it back, she said, "Thank you, Kelly." Nice touch, reading my name off the card and personalizing the experience! She then cheerfully directed me to have a seat while I waited, but I was keeping an eye on my son who was in the car, so the other fellow behind the counter indicated he'd be happy to bring the order out to us in the car. Nice touch #2. Oh, and the food itself was delicious! We'll be back. :)

One of my favorite places to eat in Seattle. The portions are HUGE, the food is good and it is very affordable. Everytime my girlfriend and I go to Ichiro, we get out of there for less than $30 (including beer and sake)! I was a little hesitant to try it at first, based on looks, but it turned out to be very good. It is a great place to grab a bite mid-week or with the kids. It is very clean, the staff is very friendly and the lunch specials are unbeatable.

I've never had the sushi here, as I always get the spicy chicken teriyaki. The staff here is really nice and the portions are really solid. I judge a teriyaki place on its spicy chicken and ichiro didn't disappoint. Reading one of these reviews about the sukiyaki makes me really want to try it though!

Thank you Ichiro Sushi and Teriyaki for such enormous portions, such crispy chicken katsu and such sweat teriyaki sauce. I really recommend the Chicken teriyaki / Chicken Katsu Combo, its a meal and a half. Don't forget to ask for extra Katsu sauce, June and Andy are the best!

This place has me thinking about kicking my own ass. I've lived in Magnolia for like 5 years and I never went, mostly because my wife doesn't like Teriyaki and it's next to a nail salon. I abhore nail salons. This joint is always packed to the gills and now that I have an infant I needed some food on the quick. Popped in for a little chicken teriyaki to go, and holy hell. The food is awesome they're talking to everyone who walks in the door like they know them. It's all love here at Ichiro's. If you don't like it, that's your problem. Seriously.

Really good sushi, katsu and teriyaki in a clean low key reasonably priced place. This has better and more sushi and maki roll options than many other restaurants. I particularly like how they serve spicy tuna roll and crunch roll but there are many other good choices. We go for lunch and it is easy to get into and fast, excellent service. I would truly recommend this place.

It's called "Ichiro"? It's next to Akido School? Can it be any more ironic? Fortunately it meets the expectation of all its ironies. After many disappointments experienced in Magnolia Asian joints, I finally found one of the best teriyaki joints in town. I was taken back by how good their teriyaki was. In fact, I was intrigued. So I took a closer look at their secret. Here is the secret. Their chicken is grilled. AND, It is not only grilled but it is brushed while grilling. Yes, the secret is in the glazing. It's got this glistening, sticky, delicious teriyaki sauce all over it. It's almost got a candied chicken taste to it. mmmmmm...... so gwood! You will be surprised at how packed this place is every night. From the outside it looks like it will be dead and I walked in there was no place to sit. Packed with families, chowing down teriyaki and yakisoba. Yes, they have awesome yakisoba too. They put the teriyaki chicken in it. I take a star down because, they serve sushi here. To be honest, this is no sushi joint. This is an excellent Asian grilled. Also service is somewhat....hectic. You will know what I mean when you go in there. I have had MANY teriyaki in my life and this one if for real. I have gone back so many times already. It's so easy to take teriyaki for granted because it is so available. I disagree teriyaki if it's good it is one of the most enjoyable dishes. I am SO glad it is no more than 3 minutes away from my house! This is my find of the month so far.

I'm going with a 3 star for now because I have had 1 star food and 4 star food but both times had excellent service. I had a bento box the first time and just felt that it was of low quality. However, the second time I went, I had yellow tail nigiri, seaweed salad, and agedashe tofu and all three were excellent. I also tried the kung pao tofu of another table guest and it was delish. So, perhaps I will go a third time and discover their true value but for now I'm leaning toward: stay away from the rolls and you're in good hands.

Huge portions, very affordable, great quality, inexpensive are all great descriptions of the place but for some reason the service sucks. The owners also work the tables I think and that's the problem because they are a bit overwhelmed. I'd give it 4 stars if the service was better. The bento's and teriyaki are much better than the sushi.

Only had it to-go, so cannot comment on the interior or staff/service. BUT, I can say that the beef and broccoli was great. The beef was moist and tender and the sauce was nicely flavored without being too salty.
