The owners here are some of the sweetest I have met in a restaurant. As a vegetarian, I am partial to falafel already, but their falafel is amazing, and definitely the best I've had in Seattle. My husband usually orders meat when we go out to make up for the lack of it at home, but still orders the falafel when we go here because it's too good to resist.

Hummus Cafe tastes like home. This is no Mr. Gyros, Americanized, watered down Seattle style "mediterranean fusion" trash. Hummus Cafe is authentic, Middle Eastern love in your mouth. This is the kind of food that my people have been eating for generations. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look like much, but inside, people are speaking Arabic, from the one table of customers to the owners. The lady behind the counter has a beaming smile and welcomes you into her kitchen and essentially, her home. The food is superb and explodes with flavor. The restaurant would fall into the "fast casual" category, somewhere in between grab-n-go and sit down meal. The menu fits in your hand as opposed to a blackboard above the counter. You order at your table and the food comes out to you. With this in mind, the price is about right. It's a bit higher priced than a grab-n-go shwarma shop, but cheaper than a normal sit down establishment. Whatever the set up, come for the food so you can be reminded of home. Yummy!

Not as crowded as mr.gyro and the food is outrageous good. Absolutely the best falafel around. Makes you want to try the whole menu which is now our goal. A great addition to a great neighborhood.

My new favorite mediterranean place, this place is awesome. My friends and I did a Shwarma shootout taste test with this place and the other 2 places close by on Greenwood (Mr. Gyro and Istanbul Cafe) and this place was hands down the winner. So good, it's really incredible. As a plus the owners are super nice and friendly.

I tried this place 2 days ago. My girlfriend and I got falafel sandwiches and we tried one of the dessert pastries (can't remember the name). Everything was really good. The family is Egyptian, which is why the food taste authentic, and they are also very hospitable. Definitely will return. I am Arab and I was discussing the menu with the Egyptian lady running the place, and the entire menu sounds really legit, can't wait to try more.

Nani and her family are so welcoming when you walk in the door! The food is amazing. It's refreshing and healthy! Can't wait to come back and try more!

Amazing Service! Best falafel in town! My husband and I tried this place out one night for dinner. The couple that runs the place are amazing and provide exceptional service. They made us a sample of falafel to try out and it is truly the best falafel that I have had in town. I had the baba gannouj and the dolmathes. My husband had the beef/lamb Gyros and together we shared the baklava and basbosa. Everything was exactly what we were wanting. We will be eating there again.

Good service and good prices. i had the falafel sandwich and it was very good.I prefer the garbanzo falafel to their Egyptian fava but it still was tasty. Definately worth a visit!

My wife and I have stopped in here a handful of times and the food is consistently good. Family owned mom & pop kind of place with the teenage boys helping bus tables. The atmosphere isn't as 'hip' as the competition across the street, but the food is delicious. The owners are exceptionally friendly and welcoming whenever we've gone in. They seem to really care about the food. The gelato they have in the corner is a really nice touch as well. Very tasty - take some to go when you are walking around Greenwood! The gyros and shawarma are great, but the spicy falafel sandwich I just ate was amazeballs. Highly recommended! Don't pass this place up, you'll be missing out!

My Mom and I came here for lunch recently and we were both very impressed with the food. I have a gyro plate and hummus and my Mom had a Greek salad. I wanted to lick the hummus off the plate! Service was warm and friendly. The decor leaves something to be desired but I'm not going for the atmosphere. I'm going for the food! Will definitely be back. Prices are reasonable for what you get.

A smaller, hole in the wall place with deliciously seasoned food and a casual, friendly staff.

Authentic Egyptian food with particular skills demonstrated in the hummus, lamb shawerma and Um Aly as well as the Basbosa.. All delicious in an unpretentious, friendly environment.

So good! Deli style greek cafe. I had the falafel sandwich combo and my mom chose the chicken kabob (which came with hummus, pita, and a salad for only like 12 bucks!) the hummus was so smooth and creamy and the falafel was perfect! highly recommend for lunch or quick dinner.

Absolutely the best falafel in Greenwood! This humble establishment belies a truly excellent Egyptian culinary experience. I must admit that I had my doubts when a new café business opened last fall in this prime (yet seemingly cursed) location at the SE corner of Greenwood Ave and 85th St N. But that all changed when I ordered the falafel sandwich for lunch one day. Fluffy yet moist (and not-at-all greasy) with a perfectly crispy chickpea crust, the generous portions of falafel in this simple pita sandwich made me fall in love. Fresh lettuce and tomato accompanied the expertly grilled pita while the entire meal was lightly drizzled with their delicate homemade tzatziki. Incredibly good. Greenwood's Hummus Café is owned and operated by Jamie and Nani Konswa, a delightful Egyptian couple always ready with a friendly smile and warm greeting. With nearly a dozen Arab/Mediterranean restaurants within a 15 block radius, City Arts writer Jonathan Zwickel has even dubbed our delicious neighborhood phenomenon as "Little Mezze"! We are lucky to have such diverse culinary expertise in Greenwood. Back to the food: My boyfriend ordered the lamb gyro: fabulous! Again, because Hummus Café serves traditional Egyptian fare, the slices of meat are assembled on an actual spit and rotated rotisserie style(!), making them extra juicy. No matter what you choose off the menu, each dish is prepared to order and all hummus, tzatziki and other sauces are homemade. I often stop by for hummus & tzatziki to go (a much better quality & value than the grocery store!) I can always taste when a dish has wilted under a heat lamp and I hate it, but hey, that's what happens sometimes, right? Nope! Not at Hummus Café. The owners run a tight (if small) ship and your food is brought out within 20 seconds of being plated. You can taste the difference! Although numerous businesses have opened then quickly fizzled in this particular location, I am especially hopeful that Hummus Café will find success (hopefully, the newly renovated Fred Meyer nearby will help). The only reason I don't give them five stars is their sparse décor (not the current owners' fault; they didn't inherit much from the previous owners). I hope that they will be successful in their business and be able to redo the sparse interior (although the sparse Egyptian decorations are very cool!) A week after my visit, as I was walking past Hummus Café, I caught sight of Nani as she was cleaning a table. She looked up at me and immediately shined a big smile and offered a wave. Who knew you can still find small town hospitality in Seattle?

The Hummus Cafe just opened. Worth checking-out. The walls still lack decor, but the baba ganoush and very first starter on the menu was delicious. The hummus sandwich was boring. Everyone was smiling and eager to please. The waitress boasted about how all menu items are made from scratch. Portions were good for the price. Except for the need for us to get up multiple times for plastic-ware and napkins, I enjoyed my lunch. 3.5 stars.

This place was okay. I've driven past this restaurant all the time but never stopped by. I finally decided to come with a friend to try their food. I didn't come here with very high expectations because I didn't want to expect too much so I would be disappointed. However, while looking over the menu, the owner or staff came by to welcome and give some recommendations. He seriously pumped up his food so much that it set our expectations too high. He said that their eggplant and chicken was the best in the state of Washington and was really mouthwatering. According to him, the rice and fries are the best and that nothing beats their food. He also said that people drive from Tacoma (or somewhere far away) just to get their food. He said that you won't find Mediterranean food as good as you'll find here. With all that was said, the bar was set pretty high. I wouldn't say the food was the best that I ever had. The beef gyro meat was really good. It was very tasty. I got the chicken shwarma plate and the meat was a little on the dry side. I did like the spices mixed into the meat though. It made it taste really unique. The fries were okay but not very seasoned. The rice tasted like rice - nothing really that special that made the food memorable. After our meal, he asked if there were other restaurants in the city that could beat their's and in my head, I thought... "Mr. Gyros" but I didn't have the heart to pop his balloon that his food was the greatest ever. Instead, I said that their food was pretty good and smiled. Their food was pretty good but not the best that I've ever had. I appreciated his confidence and pride though. Just wished he kept all the to himself so he doesn't set the expectations of their food too high.

Such great food! I usually order a combination plate my favorites are the gyro plate with rice and hummus. I also do the same combo with falafel. I really love this place! Such great service and delicious food. These people know how to make you feel like a welcomed customer.

Go to this place and EAT LIKE AN EGYPTIAN. The food is just perfect, fresh and 100% egyptian! I ordered koshary! OMG it tasted like heaven. Loved every bite. My husband ordered the mix grill dish, he liked it so much! I ordered molokhia "green soup" it's a soup that's packed with vitamins and it's very nutritious, with white rice and grilled chicken for my 3 yr picky eater and guess what! he finished all his plate, YAAAY I am a happy mama now! Top that off with the very nice owners! They offered us complementary goodies! I am definitely going to Hummus Cafe again.

I have tried the lamb shawerma plate and the gyro combo. Both were ***excellent** and fairly priced for the quality and portions. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but give them a chance. It's a friendly, family-owned place with a very clean, comfortable atmostphere. My husband ordered the falafel and wouldn't stop moaning as he ate it (must've been good!!)

This restaurant was the first thing to catch my eye on 85th and Greenwood. "Hummus Cafe", straight to the point, no? I fucking love hummus so it's nice that they put it right in the title. I ordered an appetizer of hummus & pita and a lamb gyro with fries and a diet coke. The diet coke was diet coke, obviously - hard to screw this up. The hummus was bomb-diggity, and appropriately portioned. Too often in California you'll be charged 4 dollars for 2 tablespoons of hummus or served in a thimble. The oil was drizzled on the right way. It was appropriately spiced. Basically, it was good, and the pita that came with it was quite soft and tasty. The fries were all right. It came with Rooster sauce - smart move. The gyro was less impressive but not bad at all, lots of tzatziki. Overall, I recommend and will be back. There was some confusion because I'm so used to paying after ordering and nearly walked out, but that bit of awkwardness won't scare me away in the future.

Perfect falafel: tender and crunchy! I love it with a side of tzatziki. Friendly staff.

  • Michael K.

Only been here once, and got the gyros sandwich and fries. The fries were actually very good, which is rare with these kind of value meals. Sandwich was great, fresh and tasty. The pita was particularly soft and it wasn't greasy at all. I will try to come back and see if the other things on the menu are good too. Bonus: they have a gelato case!

  • Cara S.

This place was delish! The man and woman working (maybe the owners) were so sweet. We ordered the falafel platter and the kebab platter. Both were very good and quick to come out. Ambiance isn't the best but this is the type of place you come for the food.... Will definitely be back at least for takeout!

I don't know which I love more here - the food or the Egyptian couple who run it. The wife is like the Egyptian mother you never had, passionate about food and the wellness properties of parsley. They offer a wide variety of items in a relaxed atmosphere. They offer a wide variety of vegetarian options too.

  • Von T.

Sincere, enjoyable couple, with the ability to make dinner tasty dishes. The spanakopita was extremely fresh & well prepared, and the Greek salad & baklava did not disappoint. I'm definitely planning on this being my go-to in the area.

  • Libby C.

Very friendly staff and pretty great food! We were headed across the street to Mr. Gyro and realized it was closed Saturday nights and we remembered reading some good reviews on this place. I had the falafel platter with rice, hummus and pita. The hummus was great and the falafel was delicious. My husband had the lamb but liked my falafel better. The dining room is crowded and the table was very wobbly, we'll be back but it'll be to-go.

  • Blake R.

Horribly rude service. I think this must be family owned, which usually I love and support small family owned business. But in this case the young man behind the counter was so rude we almost left. We were hungry though and the gyros place across the street we love was closed. So we ordered anyhow. The food was bland and flavorless, it was edible but that's about it. With 3 other Greek restaurants in walking distance I'd think there food would be much better. I do not recommend at all. Go the the place next to the bank on 85th and greenwood a block away if you want seating as they are amazing although slightly higher priced. Or for amazing gyros and fast cheap Greek food go just across the street, the food is cheaper, service is better and food has flavor.

    (2)
  • Michael K.

Being so close to Mr. Gyros, it took me an exceptionally long time to visit the Hummus cafe (and apparently even longer to actually review it) but like so many, I realized that while the traditional gyro from Mr. Mr. had already won my heart, the falafel from Hummus Cafe is outrageous. Falagel and eggplant and magical sauce and perfect pitas and amazing greek fries and four minutes is about as long as that lunch lasted... There are some things that taste so good that they are worth savoring and eating slowly, and when you find something like that - you eat it twice as fast. I am so impressed with the food on Greenwood Ave and that will never change.

  • Caleb F.

Tasty and affordable. Nice folks, very friendly. Im a patron of the gyro joint across the street, so i rarely eat a meal here. But it is good, and i regularly stop in for their decadent gelato. Very convenient location on a busy corner.

What a nice surprise from the Hummus Cafe! I was very skeptical on the Hummus Cafe to begin with! How can a small Mediterranean cafe received an average of 4.5 stars on yelp? But now I know why.... because they have THE BEST FALAFEL ever! I ordered the falafel plate dinner and I fell in lover with the falafel after my first bite. The deep fried ground chickpeas yummy balls were fried perfectly, it's very crispy outside but the inside is soft and full of favors. I believe they put extra parsley in the mixture and a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top also added a nice touch. The rest of the items were ok. I also tried the hummus, fries, rice, lamb kabobs, and salad. The fries were a little soggy and the salad was lack of dressing. However, this is a solid 4 star joint because of their falafels... this is a must stop and you won't regret it!!!!

    (4)
  • Andrea Z.

The people are really nice but the food was really dry! We had the gyros and the falafel- the falafel were way too dry and spiced differently than normal falafel! We really hoped to like the hummus cafe because it would be nice to have it as a easy lunch/ dinner place but we gonna keep looking for somewhere else..

    (2)
  • Alysia H.

I work in the area and come here often for lunch. The hummus is one of a kind and the gyros are fresh and of good quality food. The customer service is great too. I recommend this place often to people!

  • Spencer H.

First and foremost let me say that the nicest people run this shop. Stopped by with my girlfriend while in Greenwood meeting up with friends and are very glad we did. Casual place on the corner of 85th and Greenwood across from Mr. Gyros which I thought was a bold move having such close competition. However, after trying the place, I think the Hummus Cafe will do just fine. We had baba ganoush (a personal favorite) that was some of the best I have ever had. It was light with a rich flavor and just a touch of smoke to it which I thought was spot on. The Tabbouleh was great, not too many stems (sign of quality!) which we saved to put on top of our gyros. Now the Gyros......we had an Eggplant & Falafel (per recommendation) and a Lamb Gyro. Both excellent. Having made a point to try gyros/kebabs in every country I have been where you find that cuisine on the street, these gyros were unique. Instead of the column of mystery meat (usually veal or lamb/beef combo....I think) that is shaved off that you normally find, the lamb gyro were true pieces of lamb, well seasoned with a nice sauce. The eggplant & Falafel gyro was a great option (I love meat, but not needed here), highly recommend going with the eggplant over just the falafel which was crispy with a nice green parsley/chickpea filling. After all that and a cup of tea (with fresh mint leaves), we were plenty full and did not need dessert although it looked like they had a few solid choices. Overall if you are in the neighborhood (or not) definitely give this place a try if you looking for delicious cheap eats (bill totaled out to around $25 +tip).

It is so hard to find a Greek restaurant in Seattle so when I stumbled upon this place in Greenwood I went to Yelp for reviews and all were pretty positive and dead on! This is the BEST Greek food I have ever had! The hummus was the best ever and so was the Turkish coffee. Everything was so fresh and delicious! The place is small yet cozy and the host/server was so friendly and made you feel welcome. I will absolutely be heading back here soon.

  • Arthaey A.

Pros: hot & soft pita bread, pleasantly garlicky hummus, moist chicken, nicely grilled vegetables. Cons: unremarkable rice, unremarkable seasoning/flavor. Next time I feel like chicken kebab for dinner, I'll go to Gyro House in the International District instead. Their seasoning & flavor is much better.

  • Aprameya R.

This is a mom-and-pop-and-son place. It aspires to be a quick-grab-a-bite-and-go place. It fails at that because the food takes a long time to arrive. We ordered two shawarma sandwiches. It took about twenty minutes. It was not crowded at the time. And yet I give it a 4 star rating. It's all based on the food. It was so fresh and so good. The tomatoes and the lettuce were really tasty. It's not often that I notice the taste of lettuce. In short, I approve. The only reason I give this place 4 stars is because of the food. Oh, and perhaps also because it is a mom-and-pop-and-son kind of place and they seem to be very hard-working and trying their best and I want them to kick-ass!

You know how you eat something and it's so good that while you're eating you start to daydream and go all fantastical like a Wes Anderson movie? That happened to me today, while I was inelegantly scarfing down my falafel and eggplant sandwich. Why ruin a perfectly good falafel with eggplant? Because it is a Mediterranean treasure, like Dead Sea mud or salt or something. My sammie was brimming with cucumbers, tomato and lettuce, filled with falafel and sumptuously prepared eggplant. Those veggies were so tender, so succulent I became hypnotized by their silky texture and rich flavor. I mean, come on, eggplant can be a pretty morose little vegetable unless you fry it or ratatouille-it or something. But these little nugs were PERFECT and added so much to my sandwich. My bud and I also shared the tabbouleh, fresh and zesty like my imaginary Mykonos swim instructor/lover. Service was splendid, the owners (husband/wife maybe?) were super sweet and keep a very clean and tidy little cafe. It's not fancy but the food is super and the prices are really good. I can't wait to return for the lentil soup. And they have gelato! I forgot, I was so into my daydream eating falafel with Luke Wilson that I almost didn't mention it.

The falafel sandwich that I picked up here was tasty, but underwhelming for $8. Full of flavor, including a healthy dose of sumac. Very nice people and I look forward to trying other things on the menu.

I absolutely love this place. The food is authentic, the owner is welcoming, I feel like I'm sitting in someone's home eating a delicious meal. I've been here a few times over the last couple of months and plan to come here on a regular basis. A local favorite!

Nani remembers my preferences better than I do! Forgot to ask for meat on the side but she recognized my order and name and did it for me. Such a nice lady. The shawarma and hummus were awesome as always. Thanks again Nani! You know you can't leave Greenwood right?? People - please go here! They deserve all the business they get, and more.

I have been here twice and will predict I will come way more. I really like the gyros here and think it will give Mr. Gyros a run for its money. Always fresh, delicious, flavorful, and large portions. These gyros are big! I came on a Friday and wanted the lentil soup. The lady who worked there said I needed to try the green soup instead. Well, she is the boss. It was really good and they only offer it on Fridays. Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

  • Mohamed H.

To call this crap mediterranean food is an insult, utterly tasteless and served possibly expired meat. First went there in April it was halfway decent kabobs and very ordinary chicken shawerma sandwhich, thought I would give them a second try this weekend and somehow it has gotten worse as the beef kabobs was foul smelling and the hummus tasted like salad ranch...the seattle arab food options is pathetic compared to most larger cities and this joint fails like most around the town.

I Never Had a Better Falafel! From the outside, it still looks like the hotdog and gelato place it once was. With all the road construction on 85th, it doesn't make sense to tackle the outside. We have been there 3 times and each time, I was delighted by the food and the warm welcome. The owner, Nany, hails from the storied Port City of Alexandria in Egypt. She believes in using the freshest ingredients. Her falafel is toasty brown on the outside and bright green inside bursting with fresh parsley and cilantro. Everything is enhanced with artful squiggles of hummus! The dinners are a work of art. I am lucky that this little hidden gem is walking distance from my home in the Greenwood Neighborhood.

The felafel here is amazing. The eggplant & felafel are fresh and delicious. The is the best felafel I've ever had, far better the Mr across the street. The atmosphere is a dry, but the hosts are warm and welcoming.

  • Peter L.

Opening up another Middle Eastern restaurant in the Greenwood, much less right across the street from Mr Gyro would seem like risky venture, but Hummus Cafe definitely stands up to the challenge. I've only had the chicken gyro here, but it was damn good - very flavorful with fresh and high quality ingredients. If I were to compare it with Mr Gyro, I would say that the quality is higher with the portions being smaller. But the dining room is much nicer (like there is an actual dining room here). There are so many choices along Greenwood, but I will definitely be back.

Amazing eggplant & falafel gyro! The falafel had a subtle crunchy shell and the eggplant was in nice spears. It's a nice, unpretentious, pleasant and delicious cafe on the corner. The lady is very friendly with great service. Thumbs up.

The next time I go here I will plan it to be on a Friday. Friday is Green Soup day. Green soup is excellent. Get it, you wont be let down. The owner let me try a sample of the green soup and I should have gotten that in addition to my Hummus and Pita plate, Which was also good. Very yummy, nice owners, and a cool bathroom.

We love Mediterranean food so when we drove by Greenwood & 85th a couple of weeks ago and saw a "Hummus" sign in the window we were intrigued! We had a chance to act on our curiosity this Friday evening and ordered takeout from Hummus Cafe. Walking in, it smelled delicious. The place was clean and well-lit, and we were immediately drawn over to their gelato offerings...next time! The only downside was the volume of the music. The iPod player is up high, right next to where you order, and it was difficult to hear the lovely woman asking us for our order and interacting just in general with the music turned up too loud. We placed our orders (gyro plate with salad and hummus and a chicken gyro plate with the same sides) and sat down while they were prepared. We could both smell and hear the preparations and it really smelled wonderful. Once everything was ready to go, we paid and headed out, excited to try a new place. At home, we dug in. The portions were nice and there was a good amount of gyro meat on both our plates. The meat tasted great, as per usual since most of the places in the neighborhood use the same gyro supplier. The hummus was good as well. A solid three stars for the food, but since Hummus Cafe is almost directly across the street from Mr. Gyros, it might be a close running. Personally, we'll be heading to Mr. Gyros in the future and here's why. There was something special missing from our Hummus Cafe meal. It was perfectly good, but missing the extra spark/zing of flavor that we get from the same meal at Mr. Gyros. I can't put a finger on it, but I can definitely tell you that the extra something wasn't there in our Hummus Cafe meal.

I recently visited Hummus Cafe with my wife and we were unimpressed. I'm not sure if it was just an off day for the restaurant or if it was because of the time we went at (3pm) but the beef we ordered was probably the toughest/dryest meats I've ever had. Both our plates were around $12-$13 and although I'm not expecting El Gaucho quality meat, I also don't expect bricks either. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future but our visit was dissapointing.

A bit of a hole in the wall. Limited seating, but OH BOY, the food is good. Our party got several appetizers, all tasty. I got the kabob plate with hummus & salad. YUM! While their deserts were tempting, I opted for the gelato. They don't make it there, but get it from a local source. Do not pass go. Stop and EAT HERE.

I decided to give Hummus Cafe a try. The lady was very nice to me and my baby friend. I watched her shape my falafels before she cooked them for my order! Apparently she didn't hear me say "no tomatoes", but they were red and lovely and chopped into chunks (instead of big sloppy slices like so many places)so I ended up leaving them on and enjoying them! The falafel sandwich was fresh and yummy, with unexpected flavors like mint and something pickle-like. It was excellent! Tasty sauce, fresh soft pita. The best one I've had in awhile! I will definitely be back. And soon. :)

My boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner after biking home from work; we're big fans of the Olive & Grape across the street and were curious about the offerings at the Hummus Cafe. We ordered a chicken gyro (him) and a falafel sandwich (me), plus lentil soup and tea. The latter two arrived right away. But our dinners took another half hour or so. That seemed a little unreasonable, though the staff was preparing a big to-go order that had just come in, so we were competing with that. The food was tasty--my BF raved about his gyro and said "We are DEFINITELY coming back here!" multiple times--and the staff (a family, I think) was friendly, but I was let down by some details: -The tea was Lipton -The bathroom, while functional, had a toilet brush just hanging out, bare, next to the toilet -Instead of plates, we got Skippers-style plastic baskets with waxed paper So we'll go back, but mostly as a cheaper alternative to the Olive & Grape.

I'm writing an update because now I've had their Shawerma (which is how they spell it on their sign), I can honestly say it's the best in town that I've had. I don't know whether it's because they are Egyptian and are using spices I've never tasted before or what, but I have to say the meat was a lot more moist than "that other place near them". And the rice ,again, I'm pretty sure is from heaven. I am a customer of pretty much all food establishments on Greenwood Ave, but now that I've had their style of this fare, I'm not sure I can go back anywhere else. I hope they never leave!

Had the falafel combo plate with hummus and fries, and a salad. All were excellent! Especially the falafel. It was crispy on the outside and green and moist on the inside, everything tasted awesome, everyone who works here is really nice, definitely go. and somebody take a picture of the menu and put it up here so I can order take out!!

So delicious, fresh and flavorful! Took my cousin here from out of town and we ordered everything off the appetizer section except the rice. One was better than the next...really. We were stuffed and wolfed the leftovers down the next day for lunch. The place is very clean but they need to work on decorating and I can see if that bothers you if could be a bit of a turn off. But who cares really the food is worth it. The woman running the counter was very kind and accommodating as I had my two young kids with us. Can't wait to go back!

This place is my favorite find in Greenwood! My fiance and I stumbled upon Hummus Cafe by chance when we found out Mr. Gyros, our original destination of choice, was closed. Although Mr. Gyros is directly across the street, my fiance and I have continued to go to Hummus Cafe for our Gyros! They have consistently great food, good service, and a laid back dining environment. I would suggest the classic gyro. The meat is delicious and the portions are generous.

Get the falafel. The service was warm and friendly, and the hummus and falafel sandwiches were SO delicious. I actually made my boyfriend give me falafel from his sandwich to put in my hummus sandwich. The menu doesn't tell you what comes on the sandwich, but it's just the standard lettuce, pickles, tomatoes.

Absolutely delicious! We had intended to go to a place across the street, but alas, they were not open. So, we poked around the area for a bit and settled on this stop. Glad we did! It as very yummy! The owners appeared to be who was working. I think that makes a huge difference in an experience. They obviously take pride in what they have and the care in which they serve you. The prices were reasonable, the atmosphere could have used a bit more love, but the flavors of the food made up for it. If I were a local, this place would be in my regular rotation.

The place serves honest Egyptian style Mediterranean food so you can get your share of hummus, falafel, kebabs, shawarma. You can get large plats for $10-$14 with your choice of meat or falafel and two sides. Don't go for the fries, they don't compare to the hummus or the salad. The chicken plates somehow are much more appealing than the lamb, maybe because my lamb came almost ground-up like while the chicken pieces look nice and juicy. They have reasonable prices without all the wanna-be poshness of some Mediterranean places.

This unassuming little neighborhood spot offers both great service and great food. We had the lamb shwarma and falafel plates with Turkish coffee for dessert. It was inexpensive for the quality of the meal, service was good, and the little dining room was no frills. I might even call the coffee amazing. The falafel was different than any I ever had. The shwarma was exactly what I would expect. While Mr. Gyros across the street is also delicious, I would recommend Hummus Cafe for a slightly more personal dinner for about the same price.

Incredible food!!!! Terribly dead, no one is here and the atmosphere is whatever...but damn the food is great. Will definitely enjoy coming back with friends.

Love this place. Lamb shwarma is tasty, and their baba ganoush is the best (chunky, smoky, smooth eggplant!!!)! Love the garlic sauce they give you in little containers. Portion sizes are good, food quality is high, and the folks are really nice.

We went to our usual gyro place Mr Gyros to discover it was closed on Sunday. Then we found out about Hummus Cafe which also has gyros so we decided to give it a try. I went with the chcken shawarma and my wife went with the chicken gyro. While they were not bad, they were nothing extraordinary, not to mention that the prices were over $10 for the shawarma. I felt the meet did not have enough flavor. Clearly, Mr Gyros is my favorite pick in the area.

I was really in the mood for falafel and Mediterranean food and this was a huge disappointment. We went on a Saturday for lunch and the service was painfully slow. I'm of a mind where if the service is bad and the food is amazing, it's forgivable. However, our food was bad. My falafel had a strange taste, and my salad was totally bland. We ordered a hummus appetizer and it was so tasteless and watery. For a place called Hummus Cafe this is unforgivable in my opinion. You had one job. The only bright spot were the fries, but it's pretty difficult to mess up fries. The price of the food was too expensive. Not going back.

Big fan of the shawarma plate! It's super tasty and a large enough portion for leftovers!

This place had just the Gyros I have been looking for around Greenlake. I love Gyros but didn't love any of the gyro spots around Greenlake until I went to Hummus Cafe. Their meat is perfect! They put on extra taziki! Their gyro platter was amazing! We were so full but couldn't stop eating. Amazing food and the staff is super friendly - it's our new go to Gyros spot!

Delicious little cafe for Mediterranean food! I was really in the mood for a gyro and since it is not something I often get when a craving comes on for one it is pretty vicious! The place is pretty small and from the looks of it very popular. We got in and saw one little table that was empty and squeezed in. Steve and I each got gyros. I got fries and Steve got some appetizers. Everything was fantastic! The gyros were delicious as well as the appetizers. Everything was fresh and had a wonderful flavor to it. The staff was friendly and were really moving to keep up with all of the customers but we got served in a very reasonable amount of time. I am really looking forward to going back here!

Wow! Maybe we just hit it on a REALLY bad day, or these reviews are rigged--I dunno. The lamb was rock hard (literally like chewing thick gravel sized chunks of lamb jerky). The greek salad had lettuce in it. Everything else on my plate was nothing to write home about. The ambiance, oh lord, was awful. The place used to be a gelateria and the gelato case was still there, with a few Mediterranean desserts in it but the flavor signs were still there. The music was playing from an open laptop that sat atop one of the tables. No, there weren't awesome speakers plugged into the laptop. The address was comprised of stickers that were unevenly and haphazardly stuck to the glass and wood of the paned front door. Signage from the previous restaurant still on the awnings, etc. The saddest part was that you could tell the owners really thought they were rockin' it. They were really friendly, just really clueless. I'm happy for them that others have found their food to be good and hope it's enough to sustain their business...Unfortunately, we won't be trying it again.

Don't be fooled by the name. This is not just another mediterranean restaurant in Greenwood. The owners are Egyptian and cook all the food themselves. It's homemade and delicious! I love the egyptian kusheri (under the appetizers). It's a big dish of rice, noodles, and lentils that will blow your mind. I've also had the falafel. It's good, much different than the standard falafel. Go here! I want them to stick around!

I'm going through this kind of early-mid life crisis type thing, and all I want to eat if falafel. Which is cool in Greenwood since there are four Greek places within a mile of me. If this place was open when I get off work at night I'd probably eat here every day.

Great little place in Greenwood with authentic Egyptian food (just like mom makes). My hubby and I shared the koshari and a kofta and chicken plate. I liked the kofta the most, but all was good. The owners are really nice and welcoming, and they make the food themselves. The place isn't fancy, but definitely worth checking out.

Nonni has delicious gyros and hummus! They are fast, friendly and provide quality food. I call them on the fly for last minute lunches and they are always so quick. Give them a try, you won't be sorry!!

We love this cafe & have been several times to eat in and take out! Today, my 2 young sons inhaled the hummus and pita, and the 4 year-old was even brave enough to try something new - the baba ghannouj. He didn't actually like it, but I sure did! I also really enjoyed the falafel and eggplant sandwich, although it was too big for me to finish. It's a very friendly atmosphere, and I like coming here. Everything is super clean and welcoming. I heard someone "complain" that there is no parking, but this isn't a problem for me. Plenty of parking on the surrounding streets, and walking a couple of blocks in Greenwood is always enjoyable. I hope the Hummus Cafe sticks around for a long time!!!

We have pretty high expectations with all of the middle eastern restaurants in the neighborhood, and were not disappointed. We had a craving for lamb, so it was the lamb kabob dinners for us. I had a side of salad and hummus, he had rice and hummus. The food was excellent, the kabobs with large chunks of very tender (but not greasy) lamb resting on some hot pita quarters. The salad with feta and tzatziki was very fresh and tasty, and the rice was her own recipe, rather than the bland white rice you usually find as a side. The hummus was also good and had an almost fluffy texture. The people running the place were very friendly, and she brought us samples of appetizers and lentil soup to try. Portions are VERY generous, and we got out of there for only $25 with drinks. On our way out, the proprietress offered us pieces of her homemade baklava, which was so light and flaky, well, you just have to try it for yourself. We'll certainly be back!

Friendly, family run establishment. Interesting twist on your standard Mediterranean fare. The lamb is very fresh and quite flavorful unlike the gray meat stuff you see at other places. The salad has fresh mint added which provides a very nice and pleasing taste. The rice has caramelized onions and other spices I've never tried before. Hummus and pita both stand up to the best in Seattle. It was a very nice change of pace for someone who loves Mediterranean but looking for something a little different. I dropped a star because I'd typically want a little more garlic kick but with so much else new I didn't really miss it. Very savory flavors.

I had a mixed experience at Hummus Cafe. The hummus and pita bread was yummy. On the downside the gyro and shawarma meat was fatty and rubbery. My husband had a couple of bones in his gyro. After a few bites, I threw my shawarma away. It was simply gross. My husband tried to soldier through his gyro based on his hunger, but in the end, he threw most of it away. The menu prices were on the higher end when compared to similar restaurants and the shop could be cleaner. Based on other reviews, I suspect we got a bad batch of meat. Even if this was an isolated experience, we won't be back. It was too gross the first time.

Hummus is fantastic! Authentic taste and homemade! A mom and pop place- wife and husband cooking. It's not a fancy place but the lamb kabob, rice pita bread and hummus was so amazing I'm going back and tellin everyone! And I'm picky with hummus! ;)

Saw this place and decided to give it a try. Went for the gyro salad. There was plenty of tzatziki sauce and the meat was both tasty and generous. I actually prefer this place to Mr. Gryo which is more or less across the street. there is also more seating room here, though the ambiance is the eat it quick and mozy on type. All in, I was out the door for less than 10 bucks. Worth checking out. Owners are friendly which is always a plus.

we have been here three times. The owners remembered us each time and were not afraid to recommend something for me even if it wasn't what I ordered. Each time she recommended something else, she was right on, and I enjoyed my meal. I did not know the difference in Egyptian falafel, but now I doubt I will eat any other kind. The Fava beans really make the difference.

We ventured into Hummus Cafe the first month they were open and have since become regulars. The Falafel is good as it gets this side of the Nile and likely the other side. Always fresh and flavorful. The baba ganouj (smoky eggplant w/ tahinii, lemon and sumac) is superb. I like the fuul (baked fava bean) bowl or the eggplant + falafel sandwich. An abundance of healthy vegan options and excellent meat options as well: shawarma, kofta. A local oasis of culinary choices prepared by people who care about the food.

New place that is pretty great! I loved the schwarma, the gyro salad, the baba ganoush plate, and the almond cakey dessert that I can't remember the name of! The staff is very friendly and likes giving samples and recommending new and fun things to try. One of the two best schwarmas I've had in Seattle. Highly recommended!

Great little spot onthe corner of 85th & Greenwood. I had the hummus and falafel salad and both were good but the falafel salad was out of this world. Yum!

Wow! What a difference between this quaint little restaurant and that dirty hole-in-the-wall serving a similar menu across the street. The hummus actually has flavor, and not the canned chick peas that other place uses. Also, Hummus Cafe does NOT just SLOP the food in the container. Their meals show care with a nice presentation. That other place has kind of a spoiled frat-boy attitude, especially when a game is on the big screen. I will choose this Cafe as my go-to for tasty Middle Eastern food any day of the week.

The chicken gyro was pretty good. Nothing special, but I enjoyed it. Some of the entree options are a little overpriced for what you get. I've never had kafta before so I had nothing to compare it to, but I thought I was very dry and bland, and I did not enjoy it. Overall everything was just very... Okay. The staff was pleasant.
