You know that $8 salad you got at that downtown greenery place? You know that $9 sandwich you got at that other sandwich shop downtown? If you'd have gone to H&H, you could have gotten BOTH for $9. Seriously, guys. This place is pretty awesome. (Just ignore the smell of weed out front. They can't help the neighbors, or bus riders who light up. :-/ )

Harried & Hungry & Happy +1 For the ambiance - They did not overlook the decorations +1 For the food - No frills, just great food +1 For the service - Hostess was polite and friendly and we have the same name! Hey, girl, hey! That never happens. The small window front led me to believe the interior would be confined, it wasn't. The space extends far back with lime green accents (so far, I've had a 90% success rate with places that use lime green as an accent color), a variety of wood tones, some pretty sweet wall art (I see you vinyl-record-inspired pieces), and clean. This is important because right outside is where the main bus line stops. It's spacious, airy, light, and a good spot to be at. Also, all the suits look a tad bit more relaxed here. I made my meal a combo with The Lonestar salad and Tomato Basil soup. I've noticed many places are going for no waiter service and self-bus method. In this instance, it works and they carry out that expectation from the beginning. I will be getting a full version of my Lonestar Salad in the future. The dressing is very light, and not they're being cheap kind of light, the flavor comes out with their vegetables and micro thin tortilla strips. There isn't a puddle of dressing sitting at the bottom of the bowl. They have their veggie-to-dressing ratio down. I love tomato soup and theirs paired with the fresh bread was a great combo; the slight tang from the tomatoes brought down by the earthiness of the bread. I think they need a bigger display case, especially if that's where they are housing their desserts. Also, leave out some utensils. Perhaps near the fruit-infused water? That way the kitchen staff can concentrate on what they do best which is dishing up some good eats. This would be one of the places I hit up outside of the workweek...if they were open on the weekend.

Such good quality breads and salads each with a gourmet touch of deliciousness. Definitely one of the best lunch options downtown. Family owned and run keeps the bar high.

Ok now I am a fan, place is close to where I work and each time I go in here for lunch, it has always been quite good. Staff is super friendly, knowledgeable about their menu, specials, etc. I usually get the half sandwich (meaning any sandwich on the menu) and soup combo. They also have a punch card for a free meal on 10th visit.

This place is one of my favorite lunch places in the Downtown area! The staff here are extremely kind and helpful. They've recently spruced up their menu and I've been very happy with every new thing I've tried. Their club sandwich made with in-house bacon is delicious! So is their seasonal bird sandwich with juicy chicken and perfectly roasted Brussels sprouts. (I loved this sandwich so much that I ate it for 2 lunches in a row one time.) Free Tip: If you eat in the cafe (rather than take out) you get a tiny side salad with your meal and they often have water infused with fruit.

So yesterday my coworker decided to buy us lunch and introduced us to this great little lunch spot! I ordered the tomato basil soup and it was probably the best I've had! I'm always looking for restaurants with good soup in the downtown area and I'm happy to have found harried! From what I heard all my co workers also loved the sandwiches! Like obsessed! I didn't get to try it because I just had a bowl of pho and I was stuffed but looking forward to trying it soon! Oh and the cookie I had was amazing too! I didn't even know I liked raisin cookies!

I was searching for new vendors to use at work for boxed lunches. I think we hit the jackpot when I found Harried & Hungry. All the boxed lunches we have ordered have got many compliments: chicken curry salad, H&H salad, cobb salad, Caesar salad, turkey swiss, turkey club, falafel wrap (wheat wrap), sw chicken wrap and more. The entrée in each boxed lunch is huge and comes with one freshly baked cookie (or a prepackaged WOW gluten-free cookie), a bag of chips (or fruit if it's a gluten free box) and an Izze. We have had one complaint from almost 100 boxed lunches. It was the gluten free falafel wrap, which was really dry. The corn wrap was cracked and also dry and so were the falafel. I think that gluten-free wraps are generally pretty brittle and dry though. Delivery is $5 under $100, and free if over. They have a great online ordering system and always deliver before the time you request. They will accommodate most of your needs, even at the shortest of notice.

I've ordered from H&H a couple of times for catering for work. Their menu selection is small, but the food is good quality. I have ordered their fruit and cracker trays, the cheese/nut/fruit trays, and cookies. The food is gone within minutes. They deliver for free to South Lake Union, and they are always on time. I've interacted once with one of their employees when I had a last minute event and needed to get something the same day. The manager said he'd take care of me and had everything on time. Food: 3 Service: 4 Parking: NA Ambiance: NA

This is an awesome place to stop in and have a casual lunch with friends or gather a group for a business meeting. Restaurant is very inviting, food is AMAZING, and the prices are great. I would highly suggest this to anyone looking for a place downtown. I have never had to wait long for food and the quality is great. There is some room if you need a larger space or just want to sit one on one. Staff is very friendly and always smiling. Never had the catering but heard it's one of very few if not the only one that can do less than a 24 hr turn around for catered meals. I'd say it's worth the ask!

I've been here two times, and opinion of the food is about a 4. The reason I gave it a 3 star is because they are really really slow. Do not go here if you only have an hour lunch and If you're super hungry. I waited both time about 25 minutes for half a club sandwich and a cup of soup and it wasn't that crowded. Not sure what the hold up is, but I know others that have gone here and also thought it was slow. Please speed up!!!food is good but too slow to be worth it so I probably won't return.

I have worked in the neighborhood of Harried and Hungry for 15 years and my associates and I buy lunch within about a 5 block radius every day. That is a lot of sampling. Unanimously, we feel that this is the best value high-quality lunch available. This is not just a sandwich joint. The ingredients and presentation are beyond other local places that offer sandwiches, soups, salads. The prices aren't. The food that is being served at H&H right now is better than ever - they have stepped up their game. My worry is that prices will have to go up.

A staple in our office when we're looking for something quick and healthy! Perfect for the ladies and the gents with salads, pizzas, sandwiches and soups galore! Lots of vegetarian and carnivore options. My favorite is the Greek Salad - filling, flavorful and good for you (I tried to keep the alliteration up, drat). It's slightly out of the weekday budget so I consider it more a treat then a regular occurrence. If you are looking for office catering they're a great choice downtown!

I am so thrilled with this place! 1) we had no idea that they closed at 2 so when we arrived at 2:30 to get their delicious tomato soup we had heard so much about and we're dying to try try accommodated us and turned their oven back on! 2) I had the combo with the Frenchie Sandwich and Tomato Soup. Holy moly. So delicious!! The mix of apple butter, ham and Brie on the sandwich was to die for! 3) each dish came with their house made caramels! YUM!!

    I. Had. No. Idea. Ordered a cobb salad to go. Was impressed by the hefty box weight when handed to me. It wasn't until I got back to my desk and opened the box to see what I just scored. Excellent. Will definitely make an effort to order here more often.

My Coworker introduced me to this place for lunch. I had the Italian which was really good and filling. I was only able to eat half and saved the other for later. Working downtown I have had many sandwiches from Tats, Specialties, Salumi's and this place is right up there with them. Good price fast and satisfying.

If you want a beautiful, fresh, quick, affordable (I'd dare say inexpensive) lunch you want harried and hungry. I've been about a dozen times, generally trying something new each time and it's always wonderful, artfully prepared, and surprisingly sophisticated in palette for what looks like a simple little downtown lunch nook. My best tip is to get the special. Doesn't matter what it is. The special is always the special for good reason. I had the shepherds pie today and it was beautiful to look at and absolutely delish. I wish I had a picture but I annihilated it before the thought crossed my mind.

Well, it is fitting that my 300th review comes at the conclusion of my wonderful Seattle working opportunity! After a coworker had gone to either Qdoba or H & H pretty much every single day, I finally had a chance to make it here to try it out myself. I'm a salad girl. So out of the three s's, I chose a salad! When I first looked at the menu, the salads all sounded yummy. But, the second my eye saw the salad special, I was hooked...minus the sausage. But, they were happy to take the sausage out to make it a vegetarian salad. The lettuce was a fresh mix, the carmelized onions were sweet, the zucchini was cooked perfectly, the red peppers were crisp, and there were bits of sweet tomatoes. Overall, it was a fresh as can be salad - exactly as I like it. Salads also come with a nice little piece of bread. The lunch deals (combine two s's) are also a great deal...especially for the size of those sandwiches (one of which awkwardly came out when they heard my order wrong as a sandwich). Anyway, a cute, quick lunch place if you are craving an S.

I used to love this place. The past two times I have gone and ordered my usual cobb salad with tomatoe basil soup I have been dissapointed. I think they might have changed ownership. The egg in the salad is always runny in the middle instead of being hard boiled. The chicken is shredded and very salty. The soup doesn't even look like tomatoe soup it is greenish orange. Anyway, I miss the good food that they used to serve. I don't think I will be going back now.

Super clean calming environment. The menu was a typical sandwich /Soup/Salad place, nothing too exciting. I ordered the seasonal sandwich , the Falling Autumn. Chicken and roasted veggies (my first bite was into a cooked baby carrot) were the dominant flavors then something a lil bit spicy. It was a great sandwich, but nothing I would go out of my way for. I will come back and try more seasonal sandwiches because seasonal items just seem like a good idea :)

Ate there today for lunch. Had the combo. I picked the half falafel sandwich with tomato basil soup. It was fantastic! My husband had the roast beef sandwich which was huge and also delicious. There was room to sit so we chose to eat in. Service was great. Our food arrived fast and hot. The bill was affordable. We plan on stopping here again soon.

Excellent in every way! I come here (way too) often for lunch during work. Everything is fresh, generously portioned, and delicious. My favorites are the turkey sandwich and Asian chicken salad. And the cookies (nom). What gives this place 5 stars are the little touches, like rotating fresh fruit water (cucumber, melon, berry, ginger, it changes). And the personalized service. Just so great. They will quickly learn your name and often deliver your meal directly to your table (even though they have a buzzer system). They always have staff coming around to bus tables, check on things, wipe up that spot of water you spilled, and generally just make you feel cared for. Keep up the great work folks!!!

This is a great spot for a classic lunch. For $8 something you can choose half of any sandwich and a cup of soup. I went with the Tomato Bisque and the Turkey BLT. The sandwich itself was good, but not amazing. I felt like the wheat bread it came on tasted like something from the grocery stores. It also lacked the savory taste I expected from the bacon and bacon. I went on a Friday so I got a free cookie, which was a nice surprise since I was craving sweets. On logistics of the place, you make your order at the front register who sits right next to the cool menu painted on the wall. You then get a buzzer and take a sit wherever you want. You then get buzzed to pick up your food, like Panera Bread. The self bus station is at the back of the restaurant. They also have punch cards

These folks are awesome. I was in a pinch, and they were able to cater for us the day after I placed the order. The woman who delivered the food was friendly and even went back to their kitchen for more crackers when I was concerned we didn't have enough. Will definitely rely on them in the future!

Apparently I'm the last to discover this amazing lunch spot. Clever flavorful salads and yummy wraps stand out in my mind. Take out or dine in service is speedy and attentive even during the lunch rush. Convenient central location to most of the downtown core.

This place is head and shoulders above the other lunch places downtown. The food quality is high, prices reasonable and the menu is varied and changes. Plus the staff is nice and you can order ahead online, even individual lunches.

  • Rebecca S.

Everything on the menu is $6.95, even combos! Not only that, but Harried & Hungry is ridiculously fast and there is plenty of seating. It's generally not crowded, unlike most of the other places in the area. My only complaint is that the combos seem a bit limited. I wish it was ANY half sandwich with a cup of soup or salad, but for the half sandwich combos, you're stuck with a choice of mozzarella caprese, turkey swiss or chicken pesto.

Yes, I'm comparing this place to Specialty's. They both have similarities: they sell sandwiches, they both cater, and they are downtown. However, the service is different. As you walk in you will notice a menu stand. You can grab a menu and browse through it. When you are prepared to order you'll walk up to the register and state what you want to the employee. After you make your payment they hand you a pager. You'll walk towards the back and find a table. When your pager goes off you'll walk to a counter where your food is nicely prepared on a plate. Nobody will greet you. You'll place the pager on the counter and take your plate of food back to your table. Both times I've visited here the place was empty. My chicken pesto sandwich was okay. I couldn't eat my Caesar salad in the tiny bowl so I had to pour it out on my plate. The place was clean but for the amount I paid for the sandwich/salad combo I would have gotten more out of Specialty's.

I've only been once and had the mushroom wild grain soup. But it was 5.25 for a very small bowl and it basically tasted like it was out of a Campbell's soup can. The other thing that irritated me was the fact that they have you put a tip (or not put a tip) right there at the register when you are paying. I hate when places do that because you feel like you have to leave a tip. The thing is, you order your food from a counter, pick up your food from another counter, and then bus your own table. Why are they even having a tip option? I won't be back.

Harried & Hungry is a great place! Although I've not actually eaten there, our architecture firm has used them quite a few times since we discovered how great they are--both the food and the promptness on delivery times! The food is really fresh and tasty. Often there are complaints about some of the catered food we get, but not so with H&H! We will continue to use this great company as long as they'll deliver food to us! Thanks!

I came here for lunch with a friend. I ordered the half soup and half sandwich and it was under 10 dollars. The service was reasonably fast and the environment is pleasant. The food was decent. I would recommend the place for a quick, simple lunch.

It's a pretty cool "spacious" hole-in-the-wall. The white and soft lighting give off a pleasant air. Although, for some reason I find it stuffy breathing insde (on idea why). Good amount of people chillin and chattin. My my mini square flashy taste of a mini red light show electronic device went off. I retrieved my chicken pesto and harried house.... the sandwich was nice. bread was just crunchy enough and its contents tasted good. the HH salad was really good--esp with the apple slices, beets, caramelized walnuts, etc ... tasty. I be trying some more in thee future days, arrrrr(!)

  • Griffin E.

This place is perfect for a quick sandwich/soup or salad combo when time is limited during lunch. I work nearby and I've been here a few times for takeout. The sandwiches are well put together and offer a healthy portion size. They're not greasy or overly loaded with condiments but they are tasty and fairly healthy. Salads and soups are great too and all for under $9 bucks which isn't too shabby. I believe you can order online and pick up your stuff right away when you arrive as well. I've never actually sat in the back seated area but the whole place is open if a bit sterile. Oh well, it's more like a non-descript cafeteria which isn't a big deal for me since I'm usually lost in my phone anyways when I'm eating. Give it a shot if you're looking for good sandwiches and wraps or if you feel like a soup/salad combo is on your menu.

Amazing fresh food. I work downtown and everyone knows its hard to find healthy lunch spots. Thank goodness I found Harried & Hungry. They have about 7 or 8 salads and 7 or 8 Sandwiches and Wraps. (also healthy pizza and soups) the manager does an extra special sandwich and salad every couple of weeks. The place is huge on the inside and very clean. All the employees are polite, helpful, and have smiles as they help you. They close at 2PM. What I love as well is that they are not some huge corporate company. They are a family owned business.

The crime of the century occurred here!!! They served me a reuben WITHOUT any 1000 island! But that wasn't the worst of it. After about two or three bites I thought to myself: "hmmm, this is really dry I better go get some 1000 island to add to this." So I go up to the counter to ask for it. The guy tells me "it'll take a few minutes". Really? After about 3 mins or so of waiting for a side of 1000 island I realized why there was a problem. They were out of it. So then I got suspicious. I opened up my sandwich and there was none on it! Look, it's pretty simple, if you don't have the ingredients for the meal that you advertised and that people paid for then you should be HONEST and tell that customer. All they had to do was tell me when they gave it to me (as the guy who makes them also serves them to you at the counter). Instead of that they decided to be a bunch of weasels and hope that I wouldn't notice that I didn't get what I had paid for. Just a TERRIBLE establishment that would go about deceiving their customers just because they don't want to man up.

H&H is a go-to "get-out-of-the-office" lunch spot for me and my co-workers. I like that its on 3rd and close to our office, and I like that it's never too busy so there's always somewhere quiet to sit. I can't stress that enough. Having somewhere to eat lunch downtown where you can hear each other talk? Try doing that in Chipotle during the lunch hour! Anyway, the half sandwich/wrap is always a good, fresh, reasonably priced option. Only one star off because last time they said the "fountain machine was broken" so we couldn't even get a glass of water. Hope that's been fixed!

My review is solely for lunch catering. I have had such great service from the online catering service and via follow up phone calls w/Hazel. My favorites are the Hungry and Harried Salad Bowls- Gotta love the walnuts, goat cheese, beets and pears! mmm.. The variety sandwich platter is pretty dang awesome! They have a nice mix of meats, falafel and caprese sandwiches! Variety is key! There's something for my vegans, veggies, gluten-frees and non-dairy lunchers. All ya gotta do is ask and specify your needs HH will make it so. HH goes above and beyond in service! They really helped me with a last min late afternoon lunch request when I was in a pinch.. and for that I am grateful for their helpful customer service! No need to compare to Specialties, it is different and I need several places to order from for variety.. and this is up there on the list! I have not made it in the cafe yet but will surely come by and try the soup, someday, when I'm not saving the world from my desk! :)

Really solid lunch place. *Really* solid lunch place. Based on strength of reviews, I had to give this a try. Plus, it's west of my office, an area I feel I'm ignoring during my stay in Seattle. The menu says items are pushing $8. and that would still be a deal, given the food. But a sticker on the menu stand says "Ignore these prices! $6.95!" Which makes this a stellar deal. Even after I bought a fancy drink it wasn't $10. My lunch was a chicken pesto sandwich, which had nice pesto (although could have used more) but importantly had warm chicken, good tomatoes and spring greens, and was on a warm roll. Just having it be warm (and not the whole sandwich, so if they microwave, they at least strategically microwave) makes a huge difference. Very good. But the real winner was the Harried House salad. Spring greens, sliced beets, sliced pears, candied walnuts, and goat cheese, with a good light vinaigrette. A better salad than I would ever expect in a $6.95 combo, on quality of ingredients alone. The beets were good - and I don't even like beets. The pears were the perfect texture, both sweet and with actual pear flavor. the goat cheese mild and creamy, and the candied walnuts...well, they were really more like toffee, they were so candied. But I'm not complaining - this whole salad was awesome. Only two complaints: the salad was in what was kind of like a deep cereal bowl. Hard to eat. But this is hardly a complaint worth mentioning. More substantive - your sandwich choices are limited in the combos. Will I be able to try a different sandwich knowing I can't get the salad too? They don't have half salads, so I just might be stuck in a rut after the first visit.

This cute little spot has been a go-to place for lunch for me for the past 3 years. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, with bright colors, high ceilings, and local art on the walls. The staff is very very nice (Steve, the owner who recently passed away, is pictured on the wall above the first counter. He was a great guy.), and the food is delicious and one of the healthier lunch spots downtown. I highly recommend their small pizzas, their chicken chili and tomato basil are great, and their curry chicken salad is off the chain!

So, I had a bit of an ordeal, but I think they more than made up for it. My ordeal: I was looking for a place to grab lunch for some coworkers. I found Harried & Hungry through Grub Hub, and had heard of them previously (from Yelp) so thought I'd give it a shot. GrubHub called me a bit after I placed my order, telling me they couldn't get the order placed with the restaurant and refunding my money. Odd, I thought, so I called Harried & Hungry directly. They explained that they had no idea they were listed on GrubHub, but they have their own online ordering interface, and would be happy to take my order there any time, or by phone (which I did). When I picked up the order (less than 10 minutes later) they were very friendly. It's a nice little cafe. They told me all my food was in the bag and sent me on my way. Everything was going well until I got back to work and unpacked the food only to find that the cookies were missing! Very disappointing. Unfortunately it was way too cold outside to consider returning to the cafe just for cookies, so I left them some feedback on their website and left it at that. Luckily, the rest of the food was tasty, and my coworkers were pleasantly surprised (they had the chicken noodle soup, a falafel salad, and I had the H&H house salad--delicious--and the caprese sandwich--also tasty, but very thick bread, which could be good or bad depending on your preferences). A few hours later they called me and apologized for the slip up, asked where I worked (approximately 2 blocks away) and offered to DELIVER the cookies to my office! They arrived a few minutes later with the cookies--including THREE extra cookies! THREE EXTRA COOKIES, PEOPLE. In short: this place is totally worthwhile, and I will definitely be back. I will probably check for my cookies this time, but at least I know that they seriously care about their customers, enough to deliver a bunch of cookies in freezing cold weather.

It's hard to go wrong with H&H it seems. I've had several people's uneaten leftovers from here once before, and finally came in to the actual cafe the other day. Similar to many of the other lunchtime cafes in the area, they offer a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches, as well as combinations thereof, all for $6.95. The turkey club I've had from them before is a definite winner, with the chicken pesto I ordered the other day being a little less interesting due to slight lack of flavor. I've also had all of their soups except for the chicken noodle. Tomato basil is probably my favorite, with the chicken chili coming in a close second. The mushroom wild grain isn't bad, especially when hot, but I imagine it'd come in last after chicken noodle once I get to try it. Lines don't seem to be too bad, and the food comes out relatively quickly. Prices are great for what you get - the half sandwich and soup combo lands you with an ample portion of soup (which, alone, would run you upwards of $5-6 at places like Essential and Sound Soups). I've also heard from coworkers that if you go in towards closing time, around 2:45pm, they start giving away free cookies to people.

Completely average for its downtown location in terms of taste, price, and portion size. I had the falafel salad, which was good and and the perfect portion size but not mind blowing and almost $9 before tip. The line was pretty short at 12:30 p.m., which I guess is a plus. A perfectly decent place to grab lunch in a hurry or with someone you don't know well/have a casual business relationship with, but I wouldn't especially recommend it. They also do catering and online ordering for pickup but not delivery, like their competitors.

Fast, reasonably priced, clean and tasty. Not much more you could ask of a lunch place. From the friendly service (from people I think were the owners) on the way in, to the amazing speed at which my chicken pesto sandwich and house salad came out, to the fact that they bus your table for you, there's really not a downside I can see at this place. Plus my sandwich and salad were both really delicious. Definitely a cut above any other sandwich/lunch place I've been in Seattle and perfectly fitting the niche between everyday sandwich shop and expensive sit down restaurant. And did I mention it was clean as a whistle? I know it's sad to have to mention that, but a lot of really nice places are surprisingly grungy. This place is relatively new, so perhaps time will tell if they can keep it up, but it really added some "class" to the atmosphere. Note that I got there a little before noon, and noticed that by around 12:15 it was pretty packed and there was a line. But again, it moved fast, and a lot of people are getting things to go. I'll definitely be back, or perhaps order take-out (can even be done online, and you bypass the register/line to pick up) next time.

HORRIBLE! Dry & flavorless: literally, the weakest Reuben I've ever had. The sandwich wasn't warm and I think the cook left most of the meat in the kitchen. There was no decor to speak of either. The designers were most likely on strike when the space was put together. The owner must have spent all their money on rent with the downtown location and decided didn't have enough money left to provide good food or ambience and that being near office buildings would be enough to keep the doors open. Well, there's always McDonald's.

Lunch was fantastic! Their portions are generous for the price. I had a tuna salad that was very fresh. Fast service and hardly anyone in the restaurant.

The prices are just way too high for the amount of food you get. Quality is good but there's nothing special or different on their menu. The selection really lacks any creativity or uniqueness. As other Yelpers have said, this place is very average, indeed.

In the midst of enjoying my first H&H lunch combo, and feel the need to write a review. Basically, check this place out. For $6.95, you can get a combo for lunch (which is incredibly filling by the way). I didn't eat breakfast today, and can barely make it through my "small" salad and half-sandwich. The house salad is really bomb, w/ beets, mixed greens, goat cheese, and walnuts. There was just enough dressing, in my opinion. The chicken pesto sandwich on the other hand, is good, but kind of dry. Word on the street is that the turkey club is better... Also, if you order online you can skip the crowd to pick it up (although it wasn't very crowded at 11:55 a.m. when I walked in), and they give you points every time you order that save you money on your lunch. I'll definitely be back!

I've worked a block from this place for two years but had only been there once before today. I had some vague memory of not being that thrilled with it before? Not sure what was wrong with me. Right now I'm eating a falafel salad so fantastic that it inspired me to jump onto Yelp immediately. I'm a sucker for a good tahini dressing, but mostly what gets me is the freshness of the greens and ripe in-season tomatoes. Is there anything sadder than going to a lunch counter and being served Canadian hothouse tomatoes and limp greens in August? I don't know why but that seems to be a prevalent issue in many places, but not here. Props to H&H for taking advantage of the bounty of the season. It's an expensive salad, but so is every salad downtown.

    1. Fine if you like good, simple fare and you're not too picky. 2. I'd rather go to Specialty's most of the time. 3. Downtown so does NOT need yet another sandwich place! I stopped by here twice so far. The chicken pesto sandwich was ok, but I've had better pesto sandwiches. Their soup was also sort of middle of the pack. One thing for sure, given the utter glut of soup and sandwich places in downtown, there are better shops to visit like Medi (LOVE their reuben and all their soups) or Essential Market (Cajun club is a must).

We happened to be walking down the street, looking for some food, when we saw Harried & Hungry - "That describes us exactly," I exclaimed to my friends, and we decided to give it a try. And it was so good. I had an enormous complicated salad, with bacon and hard-boiled eggs and chicken, plus a peach smoothie that tasted like peaches. Seattle is a little far away from Portland, but if I have the opportunity I'm pretty sure I'll stop by again.

Very fast service, can get in & out in less than 5 min usually. Downsides are relatively average or below sandwiches...nothing exciting - and the price...$11.50 for a Tuna Sandwich, small food service size bag of chips and a 12 oz. fountain Coke. Can get better sandwiches for the same or lower price in downtown Seattle - can't say you'll get it quite as quick though.

Absolutely the best in catering for business lunches and breakfasts! Hazel has saved my day more than once. Love the Harried House Salad with beets and goat cheese. Yummy.

Great sandwich shop downtown with some rather amazing options. Tuna salad on rye with two pickles made for the perfect quick lunch. Clean design, nice layout, and a gourmet menu. Great presentation and service, too!

Alrighty, made it to Harried & Hungry for lunch again. This time I tried the Greco Pizza and was a little disappointed. The (perfectly round) crust seemed pre-made and the cheese was a bit off. First I thought there was just too much mozzarella but then I decided it tasted weird too. Oh well, I'm picky about pizza, I'll get a sandwich next time. One friend had her usual Mozzarella Caprese sandwich and the other had half a sandwich with tomato soup. The soup looked good on a cold day and the sandwiches are topped with baby pickles. Nice touch! I noticed the beverage cooler has lots of non-soda options, such as Vitamin Water and juice. I think the only soda was Jones. The only side options are chips, I didn't see cookies or anything like that. Still 4 Stars for H&H, it's one of the nicer lunch spots downtown.

H&H does an AMAZING job on their catering and boxed lunches!!! The company that I work for orders a lot of food on a monthly basis and H&H is always there to help us out with delicious food that is beautiful. The most helpful part is that they are always very gracious and generous when we need an order quickly. There was only one time that our order was off a little (we are people and no one can be perfect all the time) and they quickly and effectively resolved the problem. Great business run by great people!

I just tried Harried & Hungry Catering for the first time and I was extremely pleased. I I was able to quickly and easily place my order online, and and everything arrived right on time! While my event was small, and I only ordered a couple of trays, I highly recommend ordering the caprese platter while it's available -- it was perfect, and a great value for the price. The presentation was lovely and everyone just ate it up. I also appreciated Hazel's follow up phone call to make sure everything was satisfactory. I will definitely add this to my list of catering options!

Whenever I can, I will order from Harried and Hungry. I had a last minute meeting and had to order lunch the day of! Yikes! I called Hazel- who was very helpful and kind on the phone. She took my 12 boxed lunch orders and I was able to pick them up in 30 min - no joke! I was blown away by the speedy service and positive interaction. Thanks so much!!

I love this place; it's an under-appreciated find! Sandwiches, soups, and salads, all modestly priced and ready for either sit-down or take away. I'm a fan of the combo lunch, which gets you 2 out of 3 choices (soup, sandwich, or salad) for about $7. The food is really good, the service is fast, and the staff is friendly. And it's rarely busy! One of my favorite spots to sit down for a meal or just pop in to grab lunch on my way back to my horrifying office job.

It's 7:43 a.m., and I have to leave for the bus stop at 7:46 a.m. I forgot to make my lunch. Crap. This is where Harried & Hungry comes in. I work downtown, so the lunch prices are ridiculous (ten bucks for a salad? Please.) and blah-blah-economy-blah-blah. Honestly, I just think it's silly to pay a ton of money for something as simple as bread, meat, cheese and a couple of veggies. Every single lunch entree at Harried & Hungry: $6.95. Ordering online? Get 30 cents off and, oftentimes, coupons in your email to take off another 10%. The sandwiches and salads are good, too: I've had the Harried House salad (which made me realize I like beets) and the Turkey and Swiss sandwich. Both were filling, delicious and made with quality ingredients. I'm not a fan of pickles, but if you are, you'll be pleased to note that each sandwich is cut in half and topped with two baby dills. (Aww.) When I don't bring lunch from home, this is easily the healthiest, cheapest alternative. (My non-healthy alternative: MOD Super Fast Pizza.)

Anybody who knows me or has read my reviews knows I'm a big fan of MEAT. However, one day last week I found myself craving a chicken salad. You know - something with some greens, some fruit & nuts in it. Just something a little different. I hadn't been to Harried & Hungry yet, though I'd walked by many times, so I thought I'd see if they had what I was looking for. A peek at the menu next to the door answered that question: Curry Chicken Salad. Went in to order deli-style, and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Got back to my desk, opened the container and... yum. A pile of mixed greens (not the usual iceberg mix from a bag); atop that a good amount of white meat chicken, raisins, nuts, BANANA SLICES, all covered in a curry-yogurt dressing. I mixed it all together and it still seemed a little dry. A couple squirt of ranch dressing fixed that ;) What I wound up with was a tasty, filling and healthy-ish meal at a great price. I will go back for a MEATY sandwich someday soon

I had an egg salad sandwich and a small mushroom/wild grain soup. It hit the spot. Service was decent and fast. The cashiers are friendly. After you order you sit where ever you like, and a device they give you lights up when your food is ready to be picked up at the counter. And they bus the table when you're done. I love no fuss places like these.

This is one of my favorite lunch spots downtown. Its always clean and bright and the employees are always very nice and I'm pretty sure the owner is around quite a bit. I love that I can order online and receive discounts by doing so. They get a huge line around lunchtime so its awesome to walk in past said huge line and get your food in seconds. You never even have to sign the slip! I'm fond of the lunch combos because all of their food is fantastic so this allows me to get a bit of everything I'm craving. Probably my most ordered combo is the tomato soup and caprese sandwich. I'm not sure what they put in the tomato soup, but its some of the best in the city. And who doesn't love the combo of tomato and cheese, eh? I love the curry chicken salad and the Harried House is one of the best house salads around. What else? Ummmm...they also just reduced all of their menu prices so now I find myself going even more. And with ordering on line, the more you order, the more you save. Its such a great incentive!

I wouldn't really call them inexpensive as it still costs me more to eat there than some of my lunch haunts (approx. $8-$10 versus $5... call me lunch-cheapo). The food is nummylicious and comes out pretty quickly, and I feel like the atmosphere also fosters hurrying my harried, hungry self on outta there. Which is alright for my lunch time crunch. (I think it's the almost warehouse white walls, table placement, and wooden support pillars.) It's a place I see myself ordering out to go... or ordering for quick eats. No illusions of sitting around to chat. Next time I'm harried and hungry I'll make sure to come on over and try yet another item on the menu. I've loved my soups and sandwiches, though I hear the salad with the bananas is really good, too. I just end up getting really confused when I have to order at the first register and pay at the next. When I'm right behind somebody, I end up starting to order again from the second register, when I realize they just want me to pay because they already know what I want. Hah.

I've eaten food from here twice -- the first time I tried it, it wasn't very good and certainly was overpriced for what I got (falafel on baguette? What?). I went back only because they lowered priced and sent me discounts, so I got several dollars off my next order. Again, food was not very good -- salty, oily salad, soup from a can. This place seems to be struggling, and I'm not surprised. They need to put more work into making their food better and more customizable.

I've never been into the actual cafe, but their catering service was outstanding. I was tasked with ordering lunch for 50 people for our company meeting. I tried in vain to get in touch with an Indian restaurant we had used previously but couldn't get anything but a busy signal or continuous ringing with no answer (but that's a whole different story). So I found this place here on Yelp. It fulfilled all of my needs, they had vegetarian options on the menu, they accepted credit cards, and they delivered. Hazel (the owner's mother) was very helpful on the phone, and has a cute British accent to boot. I placed my order a little after 9am, and the food showed up right on time just before noon. Not only that, the delivery guys (one of whom is the owner) were super friendly and helped set up the buffet. The food was a hit and I was an office hero. I whole-heartedly recommend these guys!

i work at an office that gets catered lunches quite a bit and Harried and Hungry is one of the places that caters more often than not. Their sandwiches are awesome and I prefer them over the other catering places that we've had. They also have giant cookies and really good hummus!

I'm giving Harried & Hungry a big five stars because it's a place I know I can go for lunch and always have a fantastic selection of freshly made items. (My favorite? The curry chicken salad with bananas and raisins.) I've been going there for nearly two years, always with satisfying results. The staff and owners at Harried & Hungry have always been so warm and welcoming (they have greeters!), the place is always clean, the service very prompt and friendly. It's cafeteria style, so don't expect linen tablecloths. But for what it is, it absolutely give you your money's worth, every time. Of course, it's right across from my office, but even if it weren't I'd be a loyal customer.

H&H is a great place for a quick take-away lunch. Prices were moderate (~$9 a person) and they have an early bird special before for sandwiches ($6.75). I had the mozzarella sandwich with tomato soup combo. The mozzarella sandwich was very simple and I was initially annoyed, until at the end, I realized it was a perfect match with the soup. I would definitely hesitate were I to get the full sandwich as my entire meal. My co-worker got the Falafel Salad, which she commented was great; her only criticism was that there were almost too many fixings. While the food is good, it's not stunning. What gives it 4 stars is the place's innovation. You can order online and pick up your order in 15 minutes. They take the standard credit cards online, including AMEX. What's really great though, is that if you become a regular, you can apply to open a tab that settles every month. Imagine signing in online, ordering, eating, and not having to input your credit card information every time! Oh, and although I didn't have it, the individual pizzas looked delicious.

Amazingly attentive service from what is a family owned operation except they operate like a full-fledged corporation if you know what i mean. Everything on their menu makes me feel like i'm doing something healthy to my body but tastes delicious at the same time. Their wild rice & mushroom soup is to die for, and i usually pair it with a house salad - sweet and crunchy mixed greens is all that i can say about that. i've also had their curried chicken salad which is quite a hit with other frequent diners. I'd say that the options on their menu are more common such as cobb salad, chicken sandwich, etc. but there's always some sort of surprising ingredient in each dish that gives it a tasty twist! The owners have come to know my face pretty well here and i appreciate their warm welcome everythime.

Had a falafel sandwich to go and some soup. The bread was a bit hard, the soup was pretty good. They have vegetarian options marked. The place was pretty cold. Not chilly cold, but you just don't feel welcome in here. You order at the cash registers when you come in and there's even a rope to form you into a line and corral you into the cash registers. In the back are some tables, there's plenty of seating but it feels sort of like eating in a hospital. Not even in the cafeteria in a hospital, but the hospital itself. Mostly filled with well dressed business people, who probably prefer that sort of thing. It's also kind of disturbingly empty in the front. I think they finished remodeling recently.

Wow, what a cute and reasonable place. As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by incredibly friendly staff. The menu is great, from savory soups to salads to pizza. I ordered a half sandwich and salad combo. The bread was on a french roll and I took the top half off and added some spicy mustard. It was light and great. The caesar was kind of a miss, though. I like mine with a lot more garlic. My mom had the curried chicken salad. It was huge and sooooooo good. The dressing was fabulous and it was filled with spinach, pasta, banana slices and chicken. MMMMM. So good! I will definately be back. Also, they do box lunches and catering.

Harried and Hungry is right next to my gym, which is sort of cruel since I can smell the falafel, of Falafel Salad or Sandwich fame, on my way out after burning some calories. It takes a lot of resolve not to go in and have some stinky falafel! For some reason H & H reminds me of a place you'd find in NY, even though I have never been to NY. The decor is really sleek and a little modern, which does make for a kind of noisy place - nothing soft to soak up the sound. A really nice alternative to Subway for work day lunches. They do serve wine and beer, which I haven't had there yet, but you never know when you're going to need what we like to call a Power Lunch with a beverage or two.

I have only been there once, but I plan on returning in the near future. I always look for more healthy alternative for lunch and when I saw the menu online it gave me hope :). A few coworkers and I walked there to get lunch, one is a vegetarian, and we were please with the service and selection. I had a tough time deciding what I wanted, but when I got there and saw their daily special, that's what I ordered. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I hope to go back soon to sample some of their other foods.

Went here for lunch today... Initially, I was going to grab something from the Deli at the Kress Market but saw a sign saying something about a "Stimulus" lunch or price. There was a sign on the window stating that everything in their menu was now $6.95 including their combos. I walked in and checked out their menu...I decided to get the "Chicken Pesto" sandwich combo which included a side caesar salad to go. The salad was ok-good, very typical of caesar salad. The romaine lettuce seemed fresh and the dressing wasn't overwhelming. The chicken pesto sandwich consists of some grilled chicken with a couple of slices of tomatoes, field greens, pesto sauce in a french baguette. It was a half sandwich, and it tasted ok-good as well. The food was prepared well but it wasn't spectacular. It was good enough. I don't know how long they plan to keep their prices at $6.95 but if you decide to check this place out...get a whole sandwich instead of the combo, I think it might be a better value. Otherwise, the sandwich combo with your choice of salad will keep your appetite satisfied.

Harried & Hungry is a solid four stars. I have been here many times. My very first sandwich downtown was from H&H when our office moved down here. Better than average sandwiches, great soup, (I love their rendition of beef/barley) and great salads. Eat here or take it with you. They use those goofy flashy/blinky beeper things to tell you when your order is ready - which don't add to the experience, but are handy.

I have never had a bad food experience from H&H. My office orders from these guys all the time and they are rarely late in delivery, the one time I ever had a problem with my order the guy gave me his cell number to call to get it fixed, and everyone has always been super nice! I love their salads and they really do have the best cookies in Seattle! If you're ever in a rush or need a good catering option, their boxed lunches are phenomenal!

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Fast, courteous service. They gave us free cookies that were quite big and fresh! I got an egg salad sandwich and a house salad, both of which were good. The egg salad sandwich had lettuce and tomato on it, which was kinda odd but tasty enough; the salad was better. Reasonably priced, vegetarian friendly. Would go there again!

Met a friend for lunch here about a year ago, seeing at it's next to Bruno's I was kind of scared to try it on my own. I have since been back many, many, many times. Everything is fresh and on the healthy side for lunch options downtown. They are also very accommodating to the picky eater that I am and one day were willing to make me a caprese salad even though it's not on the menu when I went in wanting one and didn't see if offered. This is one lunch spot I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal at, the sandwiches are tasty and the salads are filling and this non pizza eating girl has even tried their house pizza the toppings were too hard to pass up: pear, goat cheese, caramelized hazelnuts and mozzarella on an olive oil base. Now if that didn't sound divine to you I don't know what will. If you are eating there go early and don't expect to have an intimate conversation with your lunch companion with the high ceilings it can be pretty noisy and if you order a pizza expect a wait they make everything fresh when you order it and the pizza can take a while but sandwiches and salads are made with the quickness. Try it you just might like it.

Totally hits the spot when I am jonsing for a big salad during my lunch hour. Although they are a bit pricey for simple sandwich or salad ($8-$12 I think) its definitely good food. I love the Southwest Salad with extra avocado! Their turkey sandwich is good too and the blue cheese bacon pizza!! Friendly service too!!!

Spacious area. Good sandwiches, soup, salads but wish they had more lunch combos. Their price went up recently so now I think they're on the pricey side. At least for lunch items. I prefer to order online and have it ready by the time I get there. You can beat the crowds during lunch this way.

I work in downtown Seattle and eat here at least once a week. The customer service here is great and the food addictive. The cashiers are friendly, helpful, and know their menu! They offer suggestions and descriptions of the food when you can't decide what to eat. The food is fresh, flavorful, delicious, and filling. Depending on the time you hit it up the lines could be longer but are always fast moving. The dining area is a high ceiling open room with close fitting tables so not really the place for confidential conversations but you can def have a private conversation. I see people eating here in groups, pairs, and by themselves. I have never had a problem finding a place to sit. Usually, I get my food to go. The reason I keep coming back is for the half sandwich and salad combo. I am addicted to the mozzarella caprese sandwich and Harried house salad. It is fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato, with olive oil on a fresh baguette. The usual balsamic vinegar is missing but you will never miss it. The salad has a mix of fresh greens, beets, feta, pears, and candied walnuts drizzled in a vinaigrette. This combo is a light fresh tasting meal that is filling but not food coma inducing. My new favorite addiction however, is the falafel. I get it in the half sandwich salad combo but ask them to make the falafel in a wrap. Now I have a hard time deciding between my mozzarella caprese and the falafel wrap but always with the Harried House. I have tried other items on the menu (chicken pesto, Ceasar salad, Margherita Pizza) and they are all right but I keep coming back for my favorites. The price is def worth the customer service and quality food that is served here.

I love this place! My friend that works nearby took me there and it was perfect for a quick lunch. The people working seemed happy and really friendly. The pizza was the perfect size to leave me comfortably full (yes I probably shouldn't have eaten the whole thing, but whatever). It was delicious and thin but not crispy. Just how I like it. The olives were nice and salty. They use those little electronic square devices that vibrate to let you know your food is ready. This created a low-stress environment. Plenty of seating. The place is really clean. I'll be back!

I WISH these guys were closer to my office. I would eat there every day. I absolutely love the chicken curry salad, the falafel sandwich is truly authentic, and I could sink my teeth into the Pastrami Reuben right NOW! Okay I'm getting hungry. On my way...

This was my 3rd time here and I'm disappointed. I ordered the turkey club but when I opened the box and tasted the sandwich all I could think was "boo!" The turkey is very salty, and there was only one small slice of avocado for each of the two halves and two skinny slices of bacon. The tomato basil soup however, was as delicious as I remember it.

I didn't read Peter W's review until now, but I concur. The curried chicken salad is outstanding. I walked by H&H on the way to work today and thought that I had to give this place a chance. I'm surprised that H&H doesn't have more reviews! I fell in line, fully ready to order something else when they lady in front of my asked for the curried chicken salad. I was game, so I copied her order. As I was waiting for my food to come up, I was checking out what was coming out of the kitchen. Nobody had ordered salad- the pizza looked smallish so I started to get nervous. I often don't eat until after 1pm, so I'm usually ravenous (ok, always!). When my salad came up, I almost fell over. It was huge! Bananas (yes, it is a first for me in a savory salad), chopped peanuts, apples, rigatoni pasta, and great salad greens with chunks of chicken and a delightfully yellow dressing. fun! I devoured it. H&H is clean, spacious, close to work, so I'll be back.

Nice clean cafe. Great salads with fresh perfectly ripe ingredients. We got the curried chicken salad and the harried special salad and both were yummy! The best part of this place is that the owner was on-site and that makes a place perfect. He was very kind and concerned that we enjoyed our experience there, which we did. Anyone wanting a soup, salad or sandwich should eat at this place!
