Been here quite a few times and always an awesome experience. My wife loves the English breakfast and I have many favs. Recently they renovated the menu, adding some new items and they are delicious. I'm now a fan of the breakfast pork chop! Great staff, super friendly and never pay for coffee refills.

Brunch at Four Spoons was such a nice break from how stressful brunch can be. It's ironic, really: we make a big deal of this mythical in-between meal, brunch, and we devote hours and hours of our weekends to it. It's supposed to be a lazy, prolonged affair that symbolizes how chill and unhurried the weekend is. And yet: we often have to reserve brunch ahead of time. If reservations aren't possible, we have to wait hours in line. And once we are inside, brunch can be rushed, expensive, and frankly, not at all relaxing. Four Spoons was the opposite of all of that. Hat tip to our lovely server, who let three women linger over eggs and iced tea for hours without pressuring us to get the check. The food was classic brunch food, but my friend's breakfast burrito was the clear favorite. Delicious and shockingly beautiful preparation - who knew a breakfast burrito could be pretty?! Stop in for a tasty, relaxed brunch. You won't be sorry.

Excellent ambiance, good service, decent food, but what made my wife and me vow to never come back was that we were charged for regular coffee refills: 2 small cups of regular, poured coffee with 1 refill each was $10! Seriously? (Actually, mine was only half empty...$2.50 for a top-up of regular drip coffee?) I'm 65 years old and that has never previously happened to me. Potentially a really nice local restaurant, but they have some wierd policies (see other reviews) that really bring their potential down. Fahgeddaboutit. Never again.

I really like this place! The food is so good, the inside of the place is really cool and the service is great. There's also generally not a wait. I highly recommend going here. Everything I've had has been amazing.

We love the food, the quirky atmosphere and the friendly service. The food is excellent -- a varied menu, excellent quality ingredients, and skillful cooking. Excellent quality of syrup for the pancakes and French toast. This is our go-to place for bringing friends from out of town.

This is a good place to get a simple breakfast, but the seating is terrible. Luckily we have only been seated at some of the "nicer" 2 top tables, but as others have said there are some with posts going through them, some in weird locations, and some that are too small to really accommodate two people. On the plus side there is a 2 top table in a little alcove that is pretty cool and we've been seated there twice. As for the food, it's pretty good. The menu is small and simple but prices are reasonable and the items I've ordered have always been tasty. I appreciate that the food here seems less greasy than other breakfast restaurants, it's nice to not feel like I need a nap after brunch for once. The coffee they serve is really, really good. The fruit bowl on the menu is fresh and has a great selection. I've always received really good service.

Staff is super friendly. Excellent service. Food is good and better that average (I am fond of the English breakfast). Kid friendly. This has quickly become my favorite family breakfast spot.

I've been meaning to leave a review for a while now - I went to Four Spoons Cafe after having had a serious craving for blueberry pancakes for a MONTH. You know, the kind that you see pictures of in foodie magazines? I didn't know they had blueberry pancakes on their menu when I decided to go in for lunch. In fact, I've driven by there a million times and have never stopped, but this time, I needed a break from my hectic day, and decided to treat myself. I quickly checked yelp reviews on my phone before going in, and decided to ignore the bad reviews, and only pay attention to the good ones.... I was already parked and STARVING. So I go in, and was greeted by the waitress who was very friendly. I got seated right away, and she answered all of my menu questions in detail, and was very helpful. My lucky day that they had blueberry pancakes on the menu (I was torn between them and the chilaquiles, but knew I could always come back). I ordered the pancakes, side of bacon, and a cup of decaf. The coffee was very good, and I am CERTAIN that I wasn't charged for refills, as another reviewer stated. The food arrived quickly, and was absolutely perfect. After drooling over foodie magazine pictures, you would think that any restaurant would be doomed to disappoint, but not the case here. The pancakes were fluffy and beautiful, with the perfect touch of "grill" to them, to give them that homey good flavor. And the bacon was crispy good. On another note, the music playing softly in the background was an eclectic mix of rarely-heard songs by David Bowie, and Todd Rundgren, to name a few, and I am a big fan, so it was a trip down memory lane that I was more than happy to take. Finally, near the end of my meal, I was chatting with the waitress, whom I was sure was an owner, but no, she was not. Her service was at that level that makes you think she must be one of the owners, because she clearly cared. So there... five stars. I will be back!

Great friendly place for a tasty breaky. I love their scrambles, pancakes and their roasted potatoes are A-mazing. Getting seated at the table inside of the fireplace is always a fun time too.

First time visit for an early Sunday breakfast. Food was ok, the fruit bowl was great and green chilies and pork eggs were good. Service was not welcoming and almost unfriendly. Because it was early we were only the second seated table, but the greeter/ server acted like we were an inconvenience. She was attentive to others but for some reason decided she didn't want to deal with us. Won't be returning

Our server was nice, attentive, and timely but the food was just ok. Maybe it just wasn't what I was expecting? I was hoping to like this place more because it's on my way to work. I had the green chile pork and it was on the sweet side when I was expecting spicy. I found myself a bit put off by comments from the kitchen staff about people "coming in so late" when a couple came in 5 minutes after us. It was 1pm and your sign says the kitchen closes at 1:30. It's not like they waltzed in at 1:27pm. Then they put the closed sign up at about 1:10pm. If you want to close at 1, then list your closing time as 1pm...not 2pm.

Pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere - was expecting a greasy spoon cafe but it is much nicer with what appear to be white cloth table cloths (vinyl actually) with a cozy intimate atmosphere. Our food arrived VERY quickly even with several other patrons. My husband loved his chilaquiles (3 or 4 star he said). I had an omelet with spinach and roasted garlic, which was unappetizing because the omelet was not browned at all, had no cheese (I erroneously assumed cheese was a default ingredient) and especially because spinach water pooled under the omelet after I dug into it. The orange juice was from a box, not fresh squeezed. On the plus side, the potatoes and whole wheat toast were delicious. Generous fruit bowl kept our 1 year old happy. No changing table in the bathroom was inconvenient.

Down to earth (in a good way) neighborhood cafe with excellent food, coffee, and service. The space feels so good (bright, clean, kept) and really contributes to an enjoyable experience. The menu is simple and the food is prepared well. Perfect portion sizes. Laurel (owner) puts so much into this place and it really shows. This place is a local gem and if you live in north Ballard, definitely eat here!

Pros: Friendly and swift service. Cons: Slightly below average food, blah decor/atmosphere, dirty bathrooms. Meh indeed.

  • James L.

I have to say, I've eaten here before so the food is not bad. But when there are open tables and a couple is made to wait in the rain because you don't want to seat them at a larger table is absurd. Your decision to make a pair wait even though you have open space is quite the worst type of customer service. I'll never come here again.

  • Carolyn H.

The outside is super trendy, yet the inside is somewhat dated. The menu is tiny, but all the dishes are delicious. I wouldn't want to eat here for lunch, but breakfast was delicious. The X factor for me was the great service. I seriously felt right at home.

Small portions of fairly decent food. Chilaquiles were a weird color and not appealing at all. They were not like any I've ever tasted and not nearly as good. The seating situation was terrible. We were given a choice of a small table in the back which turned out to be right outside the bathroom door or one right under the little service area. It was odd an uncomfortable. People were waiting to be seated in spite of available tables. The waitress never asked if we wanted refills on our coffee even though we were seated right in front of where she was working. Too many good breakfast spots in the area to return to 4 spoons.

  • Jason B.

Mmm, Chilaquiles! A southwestern twist on morning food. Nothing like tortillas and spicy eggs to get you going. The eggs were silky smooth, and the tortilla strips contrasted with a rich homemade crunch. Topped off with sour cream and chives, this dish is a unique treat.

Mixed feelings about this place. When we (2 of a party of 4) arrived the restaurant was half empty and we were told we would have to wait for our whole party to be seated. What? There are three empty tables that could seat us and it's 1pm. That immediately ticked me off. Especially because then they offered to let us sit at a two man table while we waited, but didn't offer coffee or water or even look at us while we waited. On a funny note, my man commented on how the place should be called three fireplaces, not four spoons. Our service after being seated as a party of four was much more attentive and friendly. I appreciated the numerous coffee refills. While the food was delicious (I had the chilaquiles) the portions I didn't think were worth the price. It's not often that I completely clear my plate, and it wasn't even like I was Thanksgiving-full. And of course, the first question the boyfriend asks when we try somewhere new is "do they have big portions?" Needless to say, he needed part two of his meal by the time we left. Overall, the place is cute and the good is good. Although I don't think the weird service model and pricing is worth my time again.

I've been here a few times. The staff is always nice and the food is pretty banging. I had a craving for a grilled cheese (even though it was 10AM) and they made it. It is quiet, chill....perfect place to eat some food and listen to a podcast or read a book. As far as complaints about cost goes....this is a small business with great food, of course you aren't going to get McDonald's poverty wage/corporate America pricing (also it isn't unreasonable pricing)

It's been about 5 months since I've dined here, yet the bf and I are still talking about the amazing English breakfast we had. Soo scrumptious, filling, and worth the drive to Ballard! I would go back just to have all the fatty, flavorful goodness one more time, and, I would also go back to try just about everything else on their menu, which looked and smelled fantabulous! Excellent service, easy to find, plenty of street parking. Good eats.

The owners of this place are really sweet. Very nice peeps. They work to seat you right away even when it's busy to keep down the wait time. We went on a Sunday for brunch so the line was pretty constant. The food comes really quickly. I like the way they carved out a dining room and kitchen out of this building which looks like it used to be a residence. There's a dining nook where the brick fireplace used to be and they have lots of little tables for two all over the place and a few tables for larger parties. Our table was right next to the kitchen so we could watch the cooks busy at work. It gets kind of warm in there but I'm including the long Indian summer we've been having as a contributing factor. Like most non-mainstream Seattle businesses, they have no air conditioning. The man got the breakfast burrito which he said was good enough to come back for. I got the green chile eggs which were good but nothing to write home about. The shredded pork on the white corn tortillas have a sweet vinegar taste and texture similar to North Carolina BBQ pork and isn't really a green chile per se. The name is a little misleading. The portions are quite large so we each literally only got halfway through before realizing we were no longer interested in ever eating a single bite of food ever again. I'm still feeling the same way now a good hour since we finished eating. Off to the gym we go!

Great breakfast plus AWESOME customer service...no complaints here! Four Spoons is a cute little cafe, with a lot of character. I had the Chilaquiles and I cleaned my plate including the fresh fruit garnish! The waitstaff was very attentive and funny. I will definitely be back! Pros Good food Good service Cute decor Cons Kitchen closes at 2:30PM

Four Spoons is a cute little place in Ballard. My dining partner and I came in for a late breakfast and it was probably about half full, so we didn't encounter any of the seating issues others have mentioned here. We ended up dining on a small table next the coffee machine. I had the special, which was a hash made of eggs, potatoes, and sausages with a couple slices of toast. My partner had the green chili eggs and ordered a couple scones. He's also more than just a dining partner, so I snuck bites of his dish here and there. The hash had these large chunks of potatoes which I wasn't expecting, and the sausages were small and lacking flavor, but the dish overall was passable. The slices of bread were toasted well, which I suppose is...good (expected?). However, it was something I could've made at home for cheaper. The green chili eggs were as described, and the sauce was slightly sour and good by itself, but when mixed with the pork, tortillas and potatoes it made for a strange combination that didn't jive too well with my palate. The scones were buttery, but they might've used too much baking powder since they had that chalky aftertaste. For the food I would've given it 2 stars, but the wait staff was very friendly and, admittedly, I came in since the rotating text underneath their sign once said, "ermahgerd perncerks" which is the key to my heart/stomach. Maybe I should've tried the perncerks. If I want an American breakfast, I will head over to Wild Mountain Cafe down the street, and if I want an even more American breakfast of the artery-blocking heart attack inducing variety, I'll head over to Patty's Eggnest and kill myself in the most delicious way possible there. Unfortunately, I guess there's no more room for Four Spoons in my clogged heart.

Resounding "meh." Mediocre food, poorly laid out (a table directly in front of the register!? another directly under the waitress station? another in the corner by the bathroom?). Pissy owner? manager? I don't know... reading the waitresses the riot act (in front of customers, much less talking to them like that at all!?) Pass.

  • Craig B.

Had the green chili and eggs and was very satisfied, only thing I could say is it was slightly wet and could have used some tortilla chips to balance it out, it just felt like it needed something crunchy. Other than that I was very satisfied, great service with a friendly atmosphere.. I will definitely be back to try out their other items

It is poor form to make the ONLY two people waiting wait for a 2 top table to open when you have a 3 AND 4 top available in the HOPES that more people will show up to fill them. It's a greedy business model.

Today I visited the Four Spoons Cafe for the 2nd and final time. You see, their philosophy on seating is very different than mine. In my world, if you come into a restaraunt and there is an open table (or two) and no one else is waiting, you're allowed to sit there. Or if you come in and the restaraunt is almost empty, you can pretty much choose where you sit. At the Four Spoons Cafe they do not share this vision. At the Four Spoons Cafe, if there are only two of you, you are ONLY allowed to sit at a two top table. Period. It doesn't matter if they're busy or not...almost no one else there? Too bad. It's a two top for you! End of story. Two four tops open but all the two tops are full? Whoops! Too bad there there are only two of you. You have to wait! My god, 8 people might come in and want to eat and why should they wait for a table? I get it. It's more efficient. But my god. Let a sister sit down and get some food! Oh yeah, and several of these two tops are very small and have posts running through them. And these tiny tables with posts running through them are - in my humble opinion - too small for two people to have food, coffee, water, a mimosa and still have space to occasionally put down a fork. The first time we came, we left rather than be seated at one of these lillliputian freak shows...even though there were two four tops open and no one else waiting. Today we decided to try again for brunch. Eleven a.m. There were only 4 tables of people there...and AGAIN with the "you have to sit at a two top" thing. Freaking seriously?! After a few exchanges we settled for a two top next to the window that turned out to be freezing. We watched as the other people left...and NO ONE else came in the entire time we were there. By the time we left, we were the only people in the restaraunt - shoved into a freezing corner. Who does that? Well, The Four Spoons, that's who. Seriously. If you're the owner and happen to read this, seek help. The service was fine and the food was okay. It was uninspired and luke warm...maybe it was the draft off the window? It would not be difficult to whip up something tastier...or better yet, go somehere that just has better food and lacks the OCD about how many people sit at what table. To sum it up, when I asked my significant other what he had planned for the day he glanced at the barely eaten food on his plate and said, "Well, I think getting something to eat would be a good idea."

*sigh*... When I saw the Yelp byline for this place saying "I had the Green Chili Eggs and all I can say is... YUM!," I was truly excited. A couple summers ago, I had become acquainted with the deliciousness and all powerful awesomeness of green chili in Denver. Ever since, I have been scouring the land far and wide for something comparable to subside my cravings, and I thought that this *might* be the place. But alas, no. If I hadn't been exposed to green chili in Denver, I may have thought otherwise.. but this version, despite the menu's description, does not come "smothered," or doesn't truly understand the word "smothered" [see my review/picture @ Chubby's in CO if you are curious]. It was really just shredded pork with some pico de gallo and idk.. green chili? Not too flavorful, but it's also not as fattening as the kind out in CO. If you've had CO green chili that is cheesy, spicy and sticks to the ribs-- then you know what I'm talkin' about. If you don't know, then I suppose ignorance is bliss and believe the other reviews regarding this dish.

I came here on John S.'s recommendation to try the english breakfast, and let me say for certain that I did not come away disappointed. I have had exactly one better Full English in my life, and that was at the Walpole Ealing on Ealing Green in London. The sausages were crisp, the beans perfect and the American addition of fried potatoes didn't at all seem out of place with the rest of the dish. I'll upload a photo to show off the presentation, but let me say with perfect clarity and enthusiasm - this is the best Full English in Seattle.

Ok, I haven't been here before. Maybe the place has changed. I don't know. But chilaquiles should not be a pile of brown tasteless mush. For $10. Either this place has gone downhill, or else the "foodies" doing the five star reviews here were raised on beans and wieners and spam. The reviewers bitching about "2 top" (?) vs. "4 top" tables (never heard these terms before) - are you professional servers or something? I agree they get weird about the seating - we had a party of 10, and they acted edgy about seating US even though the place was half empty - you'd think they'd be happy to have a large group, but no. It's a restaurant that wants you to like it, but I couldn't . I feel fortunate to have been born near NYC, where good food is plentiful. So I have something to compare to. I have also lived (and worked ) in Mexico, and have had chilaquiles (both good and bad). So I have an idea about what they should be like. This ain't it. Hint - find a Rick Bayless recipe online. It's not hard to make.

As recently as a week ago, I would've written a very different review. However, our experience today has closed the door on Four Spoons for me and my family, and we will not be bringing any additional guests here (which we have done A LOT of in the past). On our last visit, our almost 2 year old got a bit fussy at the end. One parent scooped him up to take him outside while the other took care of the tab and gathering stuff. Today, my husband went in with my son and another person. He was met by a waitstaff who asked "Is he going to yell a lot this time?" Hubby said that was not the plan. After ordering, the boy let out one happy "yawp" and the waitperson hurried over to say "If he yells any more, I'm going to have to ask you to leave". This was so uncomfortable, my husband cancelled the order and left with our son and friend. I can't complain about the food, but as a family cafe, and a place we have frequented loyally and brought a good dozen new people to the restaurant, I can't give a good review to a place that would turn on a loyal customer becuase of a two year old being a two year old. BOOOOO 4 spoons. Good luck surviving with an anti-kid attitude in this heavily family populated neighborhood. We'll give our business and our money to places that welcome us, going forward. We'll also spread the word to other families with young children, and family review sites, this is not a place where you want to go.

    (1)
  • Chris J.

I must preface my review that I understand the goal of a business is to make money. However the only options provided for a party of two were right up against the coffee mugs and pouring area or in a corner next to the toilet. The waitress feigned an interest in serving but you could see her crappy attitude clearly when we asked to have a better table. The matter was resolved by our leaving; never to return. The food looked good, the other diners appeared satisfied however they missed by a mile with us.

Great brunch spot in Greenwood/Ballard area. The English Breakfast is pretty much my go to; it's got everything I want and in large portions. As a vegetarian, my girlfriend loves as is the Chilaquiles and the Breakfast Burrito. I've also had the Green Chili Eggs, which sadly I wasn't a big fan of, but other people seem to love it. I haven't had a chance to try the lunch fare yet, but what I've seen looked delicious. Service is very friendly, but occasionally they forget to regularly refill the water glasses, which aren't very big to begin with. If I'm ordering a big ol' breakfast on Saturday morning, it's probably because I'm hungover. Gotta hydrate here guys!

Came here for brunch w the bf. Both of us were starving. I had high hopes for this place because of the yelp reviews. However, my taste buds were not pleased. As much as I would like to love this mom and pops diner.. I would never go out of my way to visit this place. Nor do I think I'd return. I ordered the Joes special (scrambled eggs w onions beef and spinach) bf had the English breakfast. While the portions were plentiful my taste buds succumb to the greasiness and over salted scrambled eggs. My bf complained that the bacon and sausage were too cold.. And that the food items appeared to be pre made. Customer service was super great though. I got a really warm, homey, inviting vibe from the staff.

Finally came here on a Sunday around noon. We were seated right away and received our food promptly. Let me repeat: it was noon on Sunday and we were eating pancakes and french toast within 20 minutes. For that alone, I will be back. Food is a step-up from greasy spoon places in the area but not mind-blowing. I enjoyed my pumpkin pancakes, and the french toast was basic but satisfying. We were seated by the door and didn't get a coffee refill and had to wave about for the check. I think it was situational, so next time I'll ask for a table farther in.

My fiancee and I live just down the street from Four Spoons and go there often. I have been impressed every time but the food and service. The owners often serve us, and are friendly and efficient every time. Hint: The special is always a good choice for breakfast. Have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table. Definitely recommend for a weekend brunch!

Decent option when Pete's is to busy. But the seating thing still remains an issue as mentioned by others. As far as the food it's ok, all though today I ordered a tall stack and 1 of the cakes was chard beyond recognition, but I think they thought if they poured extra powdered sugar on it would solve the problem. And although it was fairly dead today the waitress forgot to bring us beverages and kept forgetting to refill our coffee.

So...we have been coming here a while. It's a neighborhood spot and we love that! The fresh fruit bowl and OJ with big glasses of water is always welcome on a Saturday or Sunday morning after...Wait staff are friendly and accomodating - really nice people. HOWEVER!! We were in this past weekend and sat back by the kitchen...The owner / "chef" is a tyrant. I spent the entire time listening to him yell at and berate his team. I don't care how good your food is or how neighborhood-y you are...not good in my boook. The guy is a jerk and who wants to eat food that isn't made with L-O-V-E??? Not I!

Driven by a gabillion times and finally went in for the kill this past weekend. Pros- the staff. everyone was quite joyous and lovely. - the atmosphere, very quaint... we got to sit in a charming nook that used to be the fireplace. - the drip coffee was excellent, damned good in fact. Robust, hearty and yummy. - good for kids, that's ALWAYS a plus in my book. The food was not bad, just okay. I liked my pulled pork salsa verde and my bf thought his platter of food was fair. The side of potatoes were good. They have a very limited menu. I wanted to give 3 and a half stars but i couldn't select that with my mouse. All in all, this place is a good place to go if you want real low key, decent eats, nice service and damned good coffee. someday i will saunter back to try the pancakes, i will keep you posted.

What's the only bonus of early morning dentistry? Getting breakfast "to go" from somewhere delicious. Tried Four Spoons for the first time two weeks ago. It was a lovely experience. The space itself is very charming (exposed brick and I'm remembering a home-y fireplace feel, although there may not have been an actual fireplace). Delighted to find Chilaquiles on the menu. After our Mexican trip last month, where I ate this every single morning, I have been CRAVING this spicy egg & tortilla dish. Now, this was a "to go" order, so perhaps some of the sogginess was because the hot order was transported in its box for the 5 minute drive. But I was bummed that the tortilla strips were all soggy (no sog-defying crunchy bites at all). However, the flavor was lovely (not super spicy...probably adapted for white people palettes) and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The side of potatoes were tasty...COATED in seasoning. I'm not a fan of the "flavor blasted" trend, so it was a little overpowering. But they were well cooked and it was a nice seasoning flavor, just too much for my tastes. My pal's breakfast burrito was delicious and HUGE. Nice sauce and flavors and lots of yummy ingredients. Prices were reasonable ($9 or $10), and it was fast (maybe 10 minutes after I called in my order). We didn't try the scones...will have to do that next time. I like that the kitchen line is open (always inspires confidence in a restaurant's ingredients and cleanliness. Plus it's a fun "show" to watch).

I'm sorry to have to give Four Spoons a bad review. I had high hopes for it as I'd always liked the Library Cafe that was here before, and that seemed good karma. BUT...it was not to be. There were lots of big tables open (that never got used) but as there were just two of us, we had to settle for a small table jammed between a pole and the cash register. The other options would be to sit in the back by the toilet or by the wide-open, noisy kitchen. I got one tiny cup of coffee (no big mugs here) and one refill and was never offered another. My sandwich was just nothing more than grocery-store-brand bakery bread with a few ingredients briefly heated and slapped into it. The soup was just salty hot water. It was not cheap, either. Very disappointed, won't be back.

Let me start off with... I want this place to be successful. There are few restaurant options around this area. I hesitate to give this place two stars, but the atmosphere and the looks of the other patrons dishes made up for our breakfast also dishes are priced well and service was expedient. This is a cute little placed with a cozy vibe but the area beyond the kitchen could use a little help making it feel like it is a part of the restaurant, also a couple half walls in the kitchen would make me feel better about having the ingredients so close to a high traffic area. The servers were nice but forgot to give us silverware so we had to take it from the other tables. (of which they did not notice or replace on the other tables) My husband and I came here for breakfast/brunch and each ordered the specials steak and eggs and pumpkin pancakes. The menu was not overwhelming with options but what they did offer made me feel like the were trying to decide if it was American, Italian, or Mexican. My first clue should have been when our waitress asked if I had ever had their pancakes before? She wanted to let me know that their pancakes are very moist unlike other pancakes. Great I think , the moist cakes will have that lovely bit of steam escaping from its inside as I cut into them.................. but when has a restaurant ever had to warn you about the consistency of pancakes, intriguing? My pancakes arrived with a perfect golden hue and my side of bacon was cooked just right (eeps! they forgot to remove some paper from the bacon which got grilled along with it.....I'm not fancy, paper won't hurt me I looked past it) The pancakes were moist, but as warned, very moist, not fluffy and moist just soggy... as I continued to eat them the "moist" factor became nearly raw batter, I say this because pancakes should not be creamy on the inside. I understand if left on the grill the outside would be over cooked but perhaps a pop in the oven after the grill...or better yet....STOP serving pancakes if you have to warn your customers. Maybe try a waffle instead.....seriously consider this option. My husbands steak was okay, a little under-seasoned nothing to write home about. Of everything we had, the eggs were the best (that includes the coffee). Like I said lunch looked good on the other tables....BUT I'm not going to drive out of my way back there to try it.

One of my regular breakfast spots. This place has it all: great food, friendly and fast service, and a nice atmosphere. The ever-changing art is always good too. I have yet to order something that I don't like there, and they do breakfast and lunch. Highly recommended!

:( Very sad to post this... I like Four Spoons and as a fellow small business owner, I hate to give a poor review especially after having given them such a good review before. I worked in restaurants in high school and college, so I get that it's preferable to sit 4 people at tables for 4 and 2 people at tables for 2. However, rules are not always hard and fast. It was after noon on Sunday and we went in for breakfast. There were three "four-tops" open and nobody else waiting at the time. The hostess told us it would be a few minutes. I figured, I get it... there's a two-top opening soon and again, being a small business owner, I get the need to maximize profit-per-table. However, we waited 15 minutes while those three four-tops sat empty. Finally, I told the hostess we'd be taking off because we couldn't wait. She chased me through the short restaurant being very rude about it. It was embarrassing to me, her, and the restaurant. My husband and I drop a lot of money eating out. They should have accommodated us given that there wasn't a huge wait, there were multiple four-tops open, and the fact that we used to eat there about three times a month. LAME.

So... my coworkers say this place is really good. I was craving a salad something fierce, so I went to check it out. For sandwiches, I bet this place is tasty - the roasted bell pepper sandwich that was being noshed a table away looked pretty good. All fancy with it's focaccia bread and all... That said, I was really disappointed in the salad. For $10, I got a big plate of mixed baby greens (yes, just like the stuff that comes in the boxed baby greens), well tossed in a tasty dressing. I had them throw a couple onions on top, to sub out the few slices of tomato that normally come on the side (because I can't have tomato). So I had a $10 plate of salad greens, and two tablespoons of chopped white onion. While it would have been fine as a tiny side salad with a soup and sandwich... on it's own. I was way underwhelmed. I wouldn't un-suggest coming here. The sandwiches do look tasty. But for salad, if that's what you want, go somewhere else. Where they make salad out of more than lettuce. :/

Two words: Dee. Lish. I love Seattle, but something I think it lacks are cozy little home-style cafes. I think Four Spoons satisfies that craving of mine. My mommy lives far, far away -- and probably wouldn't cook for me if she were closer -- but I imagine that this is what it would taste like if she loved me enough to cook for me. Unfussy, unpretentious, just plain good food. I had the scramble and they let you choose any 2 ingredients you want, so it was perfect. My boyfriend had the french toast and ate it so quickly that I didn't get to try it. He's actually still talking about it 2 days later, and said it was probably the best french toast he has ever had. The prices were also reasonable -- the four of us, each ordering a drink, only came to $40. The artwork and decor was great, so it made for a nice atmosphere. There weren't a lot of choices on the menu but the waitress said they would be adding items within the next week. I'll definitely come back to see what they add.

Breakfast was great! Blueberry pancakes were light and fluffy with the perfect amount of blueberries. The French toast was just as great - sweet and thick. Bacon was thick and cooked perfectly - not too flimsy and not too hard. Seems to be ample parking on the side of the restaurant. Kid friendly. Waitress was friendly and polite. Service was incredibly fast at 8am. Update: breakfast was fine just nothing great like the first time we went in 2011. Parking is still good though!

So this is a cheery enough local breakfast joint in the Crown Hill 'hood. First, the good: Service is really pleasant. The decor is minimalist, but inviting. We were there on a chilly winter day, and they had two fireplaces going for warmth and ambiance. We got seated right in front of one of them, which made my cold-blooded girlfriend happy. The menu has some really interesting items on it: Nice mix of traditional with a hint of ethnic Mexican food tossed in. The problem is that they just can't seem to execute on the more exotic fare. I ordered a green chili and egg dish with corn tortillas on the side, and while the main dish had good flavor--a nice, citrusy zing; tender pork shoulder, and a good amount of green chili spice--it was served in a pool of nearly a cup of braising fluids. As such, the egg and tortillas were just a soaked mess, and the whole texture was like a floor mop at the bottom of a bucket. Corn tortillas were clearly store-bought, with that leathery tug that store-bought corn tortillas can unfortunately have. My gf ordered the pork chop special, which was touted as having been marinated all night in a garclicky bath of some sort, but the only readily identifiable spice was salt, and a lot of it. I'll likely go there again, as its super close to my house, and has a nice amount of charm and welcoming service. But I'll likely stick to bacon and eggs, and a cup of their delicious joe and call it good.

The thing this cafe has going for it is better than average coffee for a little breakfast joint. The food is ok, tasty, not spectacular. The service was not great, but ok. The seating is an odd set up. Three of the tables are lined up against the wall by the open kitchen and then there's one table right next to the bathroom. When we were there this morning we could hear one the cooks swearing (a**hole, god damn, etc.). Thankfully I don't think our 3-year-old heard him, but it was kind of odd.

Wow. We just had such a wonderful experience. My girlfriend and I pulled up and were super thrilled to see Four Spoons had a parking lot. Walking in we were instantly greeted by a very genuinely sweet server. I didn't catch her name but we were very happy with the service. The food? Amazing. I ordered an omelette with mushrooms, spinach and blue cheese. We will definitely be back soon for the great food and hospitality. Thanks Four Spoons!

Terrible experience here on a Sunday morning. We were seated at a most unfortunate table a foot from the bathroom door and left there to languish for some time before even coffee was offered. After our orders were finally taken it took probably half an hour for our food. Coffee refills were almost nonexistent -- at one point the waitress came by and shook a couple drops into my mug before apologizing and leaving again. The food that finally arrived was mediocre, nothing I couldn't fix at home, and the portions certainly didn't justify the prices. And the slow service became a major issue as we were waiting for our check; let me just reiterate: unfortunately located table, right next to the bathroom door. Yuck. Add a cook or remove some tables -- and please get rid of the table next to the bathroom!!

This cozy and friendly little restaurant is a neighborhood gem. The service was great and the food was tasty. We had a spinach and bacon scramble, blueberry pancakes, and a French dip. All were good. We enjoyed the place and will be back.

One of the best breakfast spots in Seattle, with hands down the best eggs I've ever had. Great and friendly staff. They can be busy on a Sunday, but well worth the wait.

My favorite breakfast place in Seattle! Mostly because it is close to my house (able to stumble there on a morning), the scones butter themselves (they're mostly butter as far as I can tell) and the staff is like second cousins (I don't have any, so I can only assume). Great food. The "worst" I've had here was a B+. The best was slightly dizzying. Good coffee, prompt and friendly service, good ambiance. You'll feel like you're in a much smaller town, in a good way.

We just happen upon this spot. I'm a huge fan of brunch and Seattle does not disappoint in this area. Here's a place that can be easily overlooked with all the choices available. First off, great parking availability, which can be difficult in this part of the area. We were seated in the little brick nook and enjoyed a cozy brunch all to ourselves. I ordered pancakes which were nice and fluffy. Friendly staff that kept my coffee full. We will definitely be back if we just want to have nice quiet brunch.

The reviews on Yelp raved about this place, and I had been curious to try as this location has changed names several times in the past few years. We arrived for brunch and didn't have to wait. The first thing I noticed was the smell when we walked it. Wasn't good. But that happens sometimes. We were immediately seated at a cozy table next to the windows looking out onto the street. Both my friend and I noticed the tacky cheap table cloths that had 50 or so imprints of cups and plates on it. It took a while for our server to arrive, and she apologized for the wait. But I noticed the same thing happened with the table next to us who waited just as long, if not longer, than we did, for them to get their menus. We ordered coffee, and when it arrived, we both noticed it smelled burnt. Didn't taste any better. Our food arrived fast though - my Friend ordered the Green Chile Eggs(I recommended it as the Yelp reviews mentioned it). I ordered the chilquiles - and was slightly disappointed. Somewhat bland, and the potatoes served with both dishes were greasy and didn't have spices nor flavor. I had a cranberry/craisen "scone' which was biscuit shape and taste. We waited a while to get our bill and both agreed with so many great brunch places in Seattle, this place didn't stand out. Friendly service though.

This is a nice spot for breakfast, especially on a weekday. They are packed full on the weekends- and with good cause. The food is really good. We both had green chile pork, and the serving size was large enough that we could have shared had we both wanted our eggs cooked the same way. If you're in a hurry, please realize this is a small locally owned joint- and they're just starting up. I don't mind waiting for good food, especially when it encourages small business growth in my neighborhood. The waitress was very friendly and concerned that we had a good experience. I asked a few times for butter with my divine scone, and although it wasn't busy, she got hot food served to others before she completed the request. Again, completely forgivable becuase of the type of business this is. They serve breakfast all day (only open for breakfast and lunch). I'm anxious to go back and try their lunch menu. I'm sure they'll upgrade the tablecloths after they're on their feet and more established.

OK food. The S.O. said the blueberry pancakes were the best ever and ever amen. I had Joe's Special which was pretty standard. The potatoes were...odd. Good but odd. I wanted an omelette but they want a ridiculous sum of my hard earned cash for additional ingredients. Best thing abut the food was how fast it came. The service was like the potatoes. I swear every time she turned her back she forgot about us. She certainly looked puzzled each time she saw us. Also...coffee and water refills really aren't her thing. I especially didn't care for the forced seating. She would rather chew her own foot off than let a 2 top sit at a 3 top. All in all, I'll go back but only because the Significant Other liked it.

We ate at this location a few times when it was the Library Cafe, but this was much better. Less drafty, and I think they got rid of the wobbly chairs. I liked the white, insulated tablecovers - I thought the design was supposed to be bas relief balloons or something, but the imprints were actually caused by hot mugs of coffee. Our server was great, although it did seem like he didn't have a lot of help. The coffee was surprisingly tasty (I hate dark roasts, but this was good), and the breakfast itself was pretty damn good. The green chile-shredded pork-cilantro item was excellent, and they served the best bacon I've had in ages. The potatoes weren't real pretty looking, but I think they'd been shallow-fried, instead of grilled. and we cleaned our plates. I'd like to see their menu expand a little, maybe offer some scrambles or specific omelettes, because it can be tough to D-I-Y some mornings. I'm biased, but Eggs Benedict would be nice, although I know that hollandaise can be a real pain in the hiney.Still, we'll be going back soon, and will try to bring others with us.

Hmmm... This might be my new favourite breakkie spot in Ballard/Greenwood. The server/owner was amazingly friendly and kept our coffees full to the brim. It is the 2nd best English/Irish breakfast I've had in town (the first no longer exists sadly), and m'lady's green chile eggs were "really good" (I tried them.. the chile verde pork was deeeeeeliciously done!). The place has a great feel to it with regulars coming and going and people chatting about their days at the small bar.... and I'm happy to have found it - it's going to become a regular. Well done Four Spoons Cafe! Cheers!

i was trying to find a nearby cafe when i stumbled upon this gem. four spoons is soo cute! brick alcove seating, fireplace, open kitchen, small pots of plants here and there, "mapped" walls in the restroom. i fell in love even before receiving my food! the food: the strawberry and cream french toast was too die for. let me repeat, TO DIE FOR!! the scramble was light (read: not greasy) and filling. breakfast potatoes that came with it was crisp on outside and cooked through inside, with the perfect amount of spice/seasoning. even the whole wheat toast was good--the best i've had of all breakfast joints i've been to. orange slices plus half a strawberry was an extra plus. friendly, unpretentious service. this was refreshing. 5 stars all the way.

Cute little breakfast house that knows how to do great eggs! My scrambled were creamy and light, my husbands omlet was fluffy and delicious. I highly recommend the green chili eggs. Minus one star because the coffee could be better. It's equal exchange, but too bitter for me. The environment is hip and clean. Try to sit in the "the nook" if you can.

"Mexican" style breakfasts could have used more spice. Hash browns seemed deep fried. Chilaquiles were bland and needing cheese and more chiles. Did not feel welcome with a kid. I got the stink eye and I was being attentive to my child and she was being well-behaved. Got chased out. I got the message and I won't come back with or without a kid.

I can't vouch for the dinner here, but the breakfast is superb. It's one of those places that offers up enough interesting options that, despite a relatively small menu, I still have a hard time deciding what to get. No matter what breakfast item you choose, upgrading to a scone for the extra buck is definitely the way to go. These scones are not like those overly-sweet mass-produced ones you might get at Starbucks, but instead more like the kind you would have with jam, cream, and a cup of tea (or, apparently, next to a medium-sized pile of potatoes and a scramble). Another major selling point for me is that they offer paninis, soups, and other lunch items at brunch time, so if you're out with people who aren't fans of breakfast food ("heathens," as it were), they'll have plenty of choices too. My food experiences have all been good (breakfast potatoes with their red skins still on, tasty scrambles, the delicious scones with high quality jam, thick chowders, and a couple interesting pancakes specials), but the setting is not as perfect. It's a really small place with the bulk of the tables near the ever-swinging front door. They seem to get a lot of wind in the area, so it can be really annoying (and cold) if you're seated at the front. I haven't had the chance to sit in the little brick alcove, but that seems to be the place to be.

Great home-coooked food with fast friendly service. Very willing to make subsitutions to dishes. I live in Crown Hill, and there's simply no where else in the area (yes, including Portage Bay) that I would have breakfast/brunch. I wouldn't say that I'm a regular at the Four Spoons, but I'm certainly treated like one when I eat there (I've had about 5 breakfasts there) The cafe has a comfortable, homey feel, and the purveyors have always gone out of their way to treat me like a family member. The service is quick and friendly, and my coffee cup has never been unwillingly empty. Let's get down to the food. Every bite I've had there has been delectable. The french dip, the green chili eggs, the English Breakfast (I don't know of any other place in Seattle that serves this), has been on point. I really don't have any particular dish to recommend...I've always been satisfied after eating there. It feels to me like everyone there is happy to be working there, which is rare in the food service industry. Highly, highly recommended.

Very good and friendly service. The palce was a bit busy at 1pm on a Sunday but we were seated right away. The wait for the food was minimal. We shared a scone and it was really good, should have each had our own. Blueberry pancakes were the chef's special. The pancakes were good but not "great". Side of bacon was so-so, the main problem was 2 slices for $2.50. They served a very good cup of coffee and kept our cups full. I'll be back and I want to try the Green Chili eggs with pulled pork for sure. The service is what got them to 4 stars for me.

Never went here when it was the Library Cafe, but it sure is super cute and cozy now. It wasn't crowded on a Sunday morning (although we were there "early-ish - 9:30, maybe?) and the service is super friendly. The menu is kinda tiny, and the omelets seemed a bit expensive, as they don't have any pre-made (like a Denver for example) and you get charged for items after the first two (and I asked for 3, but thought I saw 2 things charged on the bill, should have been one) BUT, the food IS really delicious. The omelet was totally perfect, the potatoes were great, and it was definitely worth it to pay an extra $1 for the scone. The mimosa is a great deal at $5 - I've been other places nearby where you get maybe half as much for $6 and the OJ was really tasty. Everyone else seemed very happy with their food also. It didn't get super busier by the time we left either, so we were able to leave at our leisure, rather than the usual "OMG, we hafta get outta here right now!" Sunday morning rush hour. Overall, a really nice little place. I'd love to go back and try lunch sometime!

It was a wonderful breakfast, and one that I will definitely be going back for at some points, possibly when my parents visit the next time. Really the only negative of the breakfast was that the fire had all but gone out in the wood burning stove as it was not properly tended. Though Jack did note that he could get up and get it going again because there were still sufficient coals (the Alaskan in him just can't handle improper treatment of fires...). For a nice simple breakfast place in Greenwood, 4 Spoons is definitely worth checking out. It's a great little neighborhood find, and really epitomizes the reason that I live in the city and am fighting all urges to ever move to the Eastside. I've never been one to battle weekend breakfast crowds, but the food and service keep me coming back every Sunday. I love the chilaquiles, which have a subtle jalapeno/cilantro sauce, but I've never been disappointed with the handful of times I've ventured away from my favorite dish. My husband tries the special every time we come in, and I always end up being jealous of him (until I tuck into my own breakfast!). The staff does very well at being attentive and getting your order to you as soon as they can despite running a small shop - I appreciate that they always are genuinely upbeat. The fact that they make sure my coffee is topped off helps too :)

Boo! to Four Spoons for totally excluding nearly all vegetarian options, like the simplest one- a veggie burger. How difficult is it to sub out a veggie burger for any one of the meat burger options on your menu? That is the first sign of an inexperienced and shortsighted restaurant. While our server was sweet, we waited at least 10 minutes before even getting water or utensils. She also brought the wrong drink and charged extra for a side of syrup. I really wanted this place to be good, and while the food I could eat- pancakes- was tasty, I wouldn't recommend them until they revamp their menu and server training and reconsider their prices.

We come here a lot for breakfast. It's yummy and just filling enough without going overboard. The service is good and the food comes out quickly. Omelets, yum. Pancakes, yum. Bacon, yum. Coffee, yum. Really the only thing I would change are their breakfast potatoes. I just don't care for them and they are frequently over-cooked for my liking. But that doesn't stop me from visiting this quaint cafe often.

This place is so cute, I could just pinch it's cheeks. Came in yesterday for some breakfast - we were seated quickly, told the specials, and quicker than you can say, "Who's your daddy," our food was brought out. I got a very standard eggs, slice of ham, breakfast potatoes and toast (I got an english muffin, because I'm awesome). Hubsters went with the special and got a breakfast burrito that had a verde sauce on it that was the size of his head. Pretty good food. About 10 minutes before we were set to go, live jazz music started up, and it was nice - not too loud, not too... jazzy.

The only special thing about this place are the scones. They are delicious. Breakfast is nothing to scream about. Probably won't go back to eat. Will however, pick up scones for various occasions. Also parking is limited, we waited forever for food, and waitstaff manages to be aloof but friendly. I'm still not even sure how that's possible.

Been here twice now -- once on Valentine's Day and once this weekend. A lovely breakfast place! 1. Good coffee. This is delightful, because while I love Peet's, their coffee is abysmal. 2. The meals are reasonably priced, and not SO much humongous that you can't finish them. I think it's kind of a weird trend for breakfast to be so ginormous you have to take home leftovers, mostly because leftover eggs are icky. 3. Simple, well-seasoned, good food. 4. The service is lovely -- the woman who has been our waitress twice now is awesome, and is a real person who has real conversations with you. A good choice for a fresh, friendly, not so huge you feel gross for the rest of the day breakfast.

When you can get everything right it is an amazing thing. I decided to give this place a try and brought my wife and in-laws here. There is a clean and comfortable homey feel here and I was put at ease right away. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast and the service was great. Give them a try.

Solid food and service, and attention to detail for food.... ie, they smoke their own pork, cure their own beef, and the basil in my scramble was fresh cut! Most people aren't willing to pay much for breakfast, even though food costs are the same as dinners.... i only hope they can get enough business to sustain their model as breakfast places tend towards fatty and non sustainable pre-packaged crap in unmanagebly huge portions for a reason.... it's cheap and cuts down on overhead, going back to that thing where people aren't usually willing to pay for the ingredients that make breakfasts like they do at Four Spoons. This isn't to say four spoons is expensive, you'll spend the same amount or more at any of the other breakfast places around.... only here you get fresh and quality, and you'll feel better after eating and enjoy the quality tastes.... not all greased out and needing to beach yourself afterwards. and the traditional fry items are still there - like french toast. but here on the special board today it was made from home made banana bread. oh man. charming decor and attentive and friendly staff along with real cuisine for breakfast? I think i may have found my new favorite breakfast/brunch spot here in the Ballard/Crown hill area. You won't go back to any of the other "all fry and lard" places after you try this place.

I really wanted to like this place. I'd driven by numerous times and it looked like a cute neighborhood place. Inside it is cute and has a nice open kitchen. The staff were super friendly and attentive, but the food wasn't the greatest. We ordered a "fresh fruit bowl" as an appetizer and the shape of the fruit was embaressing. The strawberries were shriveled up and looked like they had been purchased much earlier in the week. The rest of the fruit did not taste all that fresh either and was also kind of bland. One sign of a great restaurant is the quality of fresh produce. Perhaps we were there on a day they were using up the last of the fruit and had we gone back the next day maybe it would have been fresh? Regardless, the poor quality fruit was enough that I will probably not go back there. The pancakes I had were OK, but nothing special. I'm more of a "pancake house" kind of girl when it comes to restaurant pancakes. I also ordered an orange juice, but it was never brought to the table so I can't comment on the quality of that. I would have given it two stars, but gave it a third one to account for the friendly and attentive staff.

First-timers might find the layout of the dining room a little unconventional but once you find a seat, the experience instantly becomes worthwhile. Local art decorates the cozy interior and a cup of delicious coffee is served without delay. Many other breakfast nooks could learn something from the plate presentation you see at Four Spoons, and yes the food is tasty too.

This place is good, quiet and they have pancakes! Yes! A place that isn't IHOP or Pancake House that actually serves good pancakes! Really if I want pancakes (tm) I have Krusteze at home. These are better than that! They're all dark crispy brown and you can get real maple syrup! Sometimes they have fruit in them! Real fruit. Not crap from a large container labeled "Community Fruit." My husband both times we've gone has gotten the green chili pork egg thing it's so good. I've gotten the pancakes, lovely, and the breakfast burrito, it could use more salsa, but it was good. The decor is charming and the staff pleasant.

I've lived within a block of this establishment for nearly 7 years, so have seen the Library Cafe, Crown Hill Bistro and now these nice folks at Four Spoons. First and best (for me) is that they got rid of the "grandma's attic" look of the previous two incarnations. New paint, white tablecloths (plastic, so wipe-able, but still looks fantastic), and a reduction in clutter makes this now feel open and modern-ish. Overall I was impressed. I had bacon and eggs done very well. Also had a cranberry orange scone that was flaky and tender...not at all like the little flour bricks so often served at coffee shops. Good coffee...no espresso...but good coffee. I'll be back.

I've only eaten here once but absolutely loved it. The small menu ensured everything was make with care. The owner is cooking in the small visible kitchen. I had a fried green tomato sandwich with tomatoes grown by the lovely Laurel, who waited on us. I mean, when does that happen? (She's also a fab artist.) I look forward to returning and maybe taking relatives when in town.

I thought this place was pretty good. Small, but nice. Came here for breakfast; I had Chilaquiles, my boyfriend the english breakfast. Both were good. The waitress was excellent; very friendly.

I love a good breakfast. I hate waiting in line. I love Four Spoons. This place has done wonders in what was formerly the Library Cafe. They really cleaned up the interior to make it clean and cozy. The menu is simple and fantastic. Best breakfast burrito! Every other Sunday they have a great jazz trio playing during brunch. I've been in about 4 or 5 times in the past few months and they have consistently had great food and wonderful, friendly staff. It's my new favorite breakfast spot. (If they had something with hollandaise sauce I'd give them 5 stars)

I was very happy with my experience @ Four Spoons. I love going and finding new places for breakfast!! I had their green chili eggs breakfast with pulled pork...amazing!! So yummy! I highly recommend it. My boyfriend had the standard breakfast and like it alot, but was dissapointed at the portion size. He's a big eater and it just wasn't enough food for him. I however couldn't finish all of mine. Great food!

Now, I've only been here once, but I'm inclined to go again if I'm in the neighborhood. I had family visiting on a Sunday morning and we passed by hungry, so we stopped in. It was surprisingly easy to get a table that morning. I absolutely love British food so I was thrilled to see that they serve some British basics like Bangers and Mash, and I was also intrigued by their green-chile egg dishes, but I was in the mood for French Toast and was not disappointed. My aunt had a delicious bread pudding that I also got to sample. The wait staff was attentive and very nice and we got coffee refills on request, with a smile. I quite like the charming atmosphere, too. I knocked off one star because I could see that some of the seating options might be uncomfortable; it's one of those places where you have to keep your fingers crossed that you'll get one of those prized ideal spots.

As others have mentioned, the interior is greatly improved from the Library Cafe days. My wife and I just had lunch there recently. The menu was a bit on the small side - one side is breakfast, the other side lunch. At noon, you still can chow on breakfast if you are so inclined, but we opted for a Chicken and Proscuitto on a ciabatta roll, and a hummus and pita plate. The chicken was moist and came with a cup of soup, which was pretty tasty. I'm definitely going to check out the breakfast next time around.

Everything I've had has been really good so far. Unpretentious service (well, I should just say friendly. Come twice in a short period of time and they will notice). They seem very willing to make everyone I've ever brought happy. I am a savory breakfast person and I love the English breakfast--a very nice fry up. The place can be a little drafty, but I think the small fireplace makes it feel cozy and the music is always great. As far as the complaint by another reviewer that there are not enough vegetarian items--some people deplore the space that fake meat things take up on the menu. I actually love Four Spoons BECAUSE they give me three kinds of meat with some meals.

I had coffee and coconut pineapple pancakes. Delicious and well worth trying. However, quite pricey and I have had better for cheaper. The service was very good and the decor very pleasant. Pancake special, coffee, French toast, and tea came to $31 with tax and a 20% tip. I'd go back if it was cheaper.

solid breakfast joint--we came with friends who have a little boy and everyone found something on the menu they liked. we splurged on the mexican hot chocolate, and i had the roasted pepper sandwich. it really is solid, but there are probably a dozen other brunch/lunch places like the four spoons with a really similar menu. i would definitely come back, if a friend really wanted to go here. for my choice i might pick somewhere else for brunch. i have to say, though, there is a seat in the (unused) fire place that looks like it'd be really cool to sit in!

I find this place has shaped up over time. The breakfast food is where it's at. Good scrambled eggs and black beans, the bacon is nearly perfect. The biggest problems are that it's a little expensive and they don't have great heating. A good option if you're in the neighborhood.

Chilaquiles were AWESOME! Order came out in less than 5 min Atmosphere really pleasant. Fruit served as garnish very fresh, portions a good size and food was PIPING HOT! Coffee a little bitter and was just ok. Service matched the food.

First I have to say that I came to Seattle to get out of 38 days straight of over triple digits. We couldn't have picked a better weekend. We stayed at the Four Seasons but like to get out and get a feel for the city. We rely on yelp and reviews to help make our decisions. I called ahead to be advised of the reservation system and to get an idea of the time it might take to get from DT to Ballard. The woman that answered the phone said she didn't take reservations but she would do her best to seat us as it would be a 20 minute ride. I must admit. I have never been treated so poorly or been so uncomfortable when entering a place. Although we were seated right away, I asked the woman if it would be possible to have her place a call for a cab for our return trip as this was a rather out of the way neighborhood and didn't look as though there were cabs a plenty. She was rude, condescending with overtones of sarcasms. We would've turned around and left right then but our cab had already departed. After seating us she made a remark to the gentleman who ended up waiting on us and he was really pleasant. First impressions are everything. She should NOT be the "greeter". The food good. I had a pulled pork that tasted as though it had been simmered in a sweet/lightly spicy tomato with pico relish. 2 eggs over easy all sitting on top of a couple of corn tortillas. Although flavorful, my only complaint was that there was too much liquid (from the pulled pork?) so my over easy eggs got lost. It came with a side of "home fried" potatoes that although were good, could've used some onion & rosemary. My husband was trying to decide between the egg scramble with tomatilla and cilantro, but opted for the black bean burrito instead. I'm glad he did. We each ate 1/2 our dish and then swapped. His burrito was loaded with black beans and eggs scrambled with cheese, cilantro. He also got the potatoes and the two dished combined were more than we could eat. Again; the food was okay, but not enough to make me go out of my way when I return to the city. I'm originally from Portland and have tons of family & friends in the NW. I would NEVER suggest this place to them based on the cold reception!

I see that many love this place, and I'm suspecting they eat pork. If you don't, you may not enjoy it. It's clean, but boring inside. The service is let's say, unenthusiastic. I had the chilaquiles, which were bo-ring!!! I realize that in the NW "spicy" means nothing, but even after dousing the dish with hot sauce, I got no flavor. Only in Seattle have I experienced this rare phenomenon - let's call it flavorjacking - where eating something removes taste from your mouth. It's the negative space of food. So, there were no refried beans, queso, avocado, etc. to save the dish. The eggs ended up rubbery and wet, the tortillas all turned to mush and the (I'm suspecting) jarred sauce disappeared into the ether. The "scone" tasted like a pressed disc of sandy salt with a few decorative craisins throughout. I cannot believe I was charged an extra dollar for this tiny, dry insult. The omelette my partner ordered was small, also flavorless and wet. I will give props to the fact that the english muffin was decent and actually toasted (what IS it with Seattle restaurants and their inability to cook anything to a golden state?) The potatoes looked good - very golden brown, which was unexpected. But I think the kitchen is using fabricated oils to fry. I also wonder if they are using butter-flavored shortening for the scones. In short, and I've been here before, some will love this place, but I sure don't. I'd suggest saucing it up, adding some better veggie options, using top-quality ingredients, putting up some better artwork and being more attentive.

Boyfriend and I love to find new places to have our weekend breakfast that we haven't had before. After a quick Yelp search, we decided to give Four Spoons Café a try. The food definitely won't disappoint you!!! I had the Green Chili Eggs - All I can say is "YUM". The roasted pork with the Green Chili sauce was so flavorful, I couldn't help myself having bite after another and before I know it, my plate was empty! My boyfriend had the special which was Chicken Hash Scramble, it had chicken sausages, bell peppers and onions all scrambled with eggs and it also come with the oven roasted potatoes. It came in a good size portion and he sure enjoyed his breakfast! The potatoes were so tasty, there were properly seasoned and they were crispy outside and tender inside! Our waiter was friendly and attentive; we were very satisfied with our experience. Definitely will add to our list of places for our weekend breakfast! :-)

Was kinda surprised how nicely decorated this little quaint place was on the inside. The staff is very friendly and they have specials that's not on the menu written on the blackboard for the weekend brunch. I had the special hash and it was deeeelish. My BF had the pulled pork omlette thing and it was also terrific. I'd love to go back again for sure!

I can't tell you much about the food, because I left almost immediately after walking in, because of the snotty attitude of the waitress. I was looking for a coffee shop to work in, not a restaurant when I walked in, but the place was empty and I thought it might be ok. When I was subjected to the attitude of the server, I saw why, and walked right back out.

I am lucky enough to have a son who lives a few blocks from the Four Spoons Cafe. While visiting him last week, I had breakfast at the Four Spoons Cafe twice. I was alone the first time and felt very welcomed. The excellent coffee was generously refilled as needed. The chilaquiles were very good though different than those I'd had in Santa Fe over the years. The potatoes were nicely browned and delicious. The second visit included 5 adults, 3 children and a 5 month old baby. We were accommodated instantly on a Saturday morning. While passing by on Sunday the cafe was much more busy and it might have been a problem seating us all. The waitress furnished the children with paper and crayons -- a nice touch. The green chile eggs were wonderful -- as noted by another reviewer the green chile is of the New Mexico, not Colorado, variety. I hope to return to this cafe whenever I am in Seattle!

I had an eggs and bacon breakfast, and it was good, but nothing fantastic. The roasted potatoes were done well, but had too much salty spice-stuff on them, and the toast was forgettable. I kept thinking, "I could have made this at home"--not the best response to having breakfast out. The server was very friendly, and I liked the little nook I sat in--it's the kind of place I didn't feel weird eating alone and reading while I ate, as did the guy at the table next to me. The Mexican hot chocolate is powdered, and needs to cost less than whatever it did--almost $3 if I recall correctly. I'd go again b/c it's convenient and serves breakfast all day (which is until 3).

Love this place. Great food. Amazing service. Friendly, casual atmosphere. I love the food here. My favorite entrees are the breakfast burrito and the chilaquiles, and I always order one of their marvelous cranberry scones. Really though, everything we've had here has been great. The chef is really talented. The menu is short, but has a lot of variety, and I have yet to be disappointed by anything. My wife and I are vegetarians, and while their menu doesn't look all that vegetarian-friendly at first glance, there's actually a lot we can eat here. Plus they've always been really good at accommodating requests and substitutions. Which brings me to the service... it's fantastic. The staff here is very friendly, and really helpful. The second time you walk in the door, they're already treating you like you're family. By our third visit, our waitress greeted us by name, remembered our drink order from the previous two visits, and asked if I wanted to start with a scone like last time. We were blown away, it felt like we'd been regulars for years, not just random folks coming in for our third visit ever. We've returned dozens of times since then, and the service, like the food, has always been excellent.

Love. Love. Love this place. I'm giving it 5 stars for everything a restaurant has to offer-service, atmosphere, food quality. Everyone is super friendly and accommodating. I never have an empty coffee cup till I am finished and they give me the works for condiments. The atmosphere is very wholesome, clean, and cozy. I appreciate the decorations accenting the rooms instead of being in your face or making it look cluttered. Now to the best part...The food :) I generally order the same thing when I come in and its always breakfast fore breakfast is the most important meal of the day everyday. The food tastes very clean, not oily, or over fried. In turn, I feel like a million bucks every time I've finished eating the WHOLE thing of bacon, taters, pork chop/eggs, and so much coffee. Its rare to find a place who can cook up not so healthy things and not make you feel like you're pregnant with grease babies. I would eat here every weekend if my wallet would allow it :)

Since I work most weekends... I'm an overtime junkie.... I awoke this Saturday morning with breakfast on my mind. After a lot of thought, I decided to try the place right down the street. The Four Spoons serves a good breakfast. I had a concoction they called the green chili breakfast. I was very good, loaded with perfectly cooked pulled pork. Unfortunately, when they added my perfectly cooked poached eggs, they also added a generous amount of the poaching water. The oven baked breakfast spuds were way over cooked, and not seasoned! Also, when you're charged a couple of bucks for a cup of coffee, I'm of the opinion, that the servers, should never ever let my coffee cup run dry. This is the basis of basic good service, which I found to be somewhat lacking at the Four Spoons. JR

After maybe three consecutive meals here herself, my sister invited me to lunch with her on a Saturday. This is a charming spot near her neighborhood. We are always happy to try locally owned restaurants and this is among the best in Seattle. After identifying some pretty promising-sounding dishes from the regular menu, I decided to order the daily special, a roasted beet salad with spinach, feta, fresh orange segments it was dressed with a lovely light vinegarette. I also ordered the French dip which was served with home made au jus and house-roasted beef on a cibatta roll. A subtile horseradish sauce added the perfect little kick as to make the flavors stand out. My sister ordered a barbecue pork sandwich (which was so juicy and flavorful it required three napkins to contain all of the tastiness!) which came with the fries. I don't know, maybe it's because they weren't mine and I couldn't shovel them into my mouth as liberally as I would have liked, but those fries are calling my name so insidiously that they, alone (not just the cheery atmosphere, interesting menu and great service) will bring me back to this place....sooner or later!

We walked in & got a great table on a Saturday mid-morning which was awesome! Service was extremely outgoing and on top of things until it got busy ( having a small staff {two servers + cook} will do that). Food was just OK, nothing I couldn't make at home EXCEPT the Home Potatoes which were excellent. Like to go back sometime for lunch and see if my opinion changes.

My friends and I just finished lunch. Wow.... great place. great service. great food. highly recommend. perfect portions with great flavor. I had the chicken and prosciutto sandwich, Yum Yum. I had fries, which were handmade and better than the Arches. My friends had the warm Cabbage Salad and the Italian Panini. Perfect example of simple is better.

best banana pancakes ever. perfectly moist and fluffy, served with real maple syrup and delicious whipped butter. definitely made my sunday morning. their scones are on another level altogether. never ever have i tasted such consistently buttery, flaky goodness in my life. every time they are delicious. my boyfriend ordered the english breakfast and had nothing but positive reviews- especially of the baked beans. i love four spoons. quiet, quaint and super friendly.

A really nice 'upgrade' to this location - we went for a late lunch on a recent Weds and loved what the new owners have done. Menu is fun and interesting - the hot beet salad was one of a kind! Also nice attentive but not fussy service and fun decor. Will definitely try this again for brunches or a quick bite (great easy parking too!).

I had the fish taco and a chocolate pancake for dessert. Very delicious! The staff and owner were friendly. The place was clean and had nice table settings. Nice, cozy place to bring a date, or other small & intimate group of adults. My meal; fish taco, 1 pancake, and a coke was $20. I was OK with that because I appreciated the way the food was prepared; Not mass produced like gorditos and not over thought to the point of uncomfortableness like four seasons. Good blend of spices and ingredients. Appropriate portion sizes, not too small, not too big. Just right...

The woman there said that they make everything on site...if so, then this restaurant is really quite good. I would definitely go back. Nothing extraordinary but really solid, and I think for choices offered I prefer this place to wild mountain cafe down the street.

We showed up at this little cafe for brunch (1:30pm) and had our pick of the tables. Our server was friendly, funny, and attentive. Our food was prepared quickly and the servings were perfect. I had the Chef's special pancakes - banana and my bf had a scramble with bacon, mushrooms, and onions.... everything was cooked well and tasted great! The potato side was definitely well seasoned but not in an overwhelming way. Two thumbs way up for this cafe, we'll be back very soon.

I love pancakes. It is hard to find good pancakes these days, heck, it's hard to find good breakfast food at all. So, when I was looking for a place for my family to take me for Mother's Day I got excited when I read the reviews for this little diamond in the rough. Actually, it's not rough at all, it was spectacularly yummy. I indulged in a short stack of banana pancakes. They were perfectly cooked, not too thick, lightly crisp around the edges and had many slices of sweet, squishy banana hidden within them. My children had the strawberry french toast, which they coined "the best they have ever had". My father in law had the English breakfast with baked beans and two beautifully cooked over easy eggs. My hubby enjoyed an omelet, with potatoes and toast and fresh preserves. Both the omelet and the English breakfast were ample portions, neither my hubby nor my father in law could clean their plates. The coffee was good, the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Our waitress was welcoming, professional and kind. As for price. We paid the same amount for our breakfast at this lovely little place as we would have at IHOP. Considering the quality of the food, it's a real bargain.

Been there three times so far and every time has been consistently great food. Tried the french toast twice (big fan of FT anywhere) and it was absolutely fantastic. You could taste the vanilla without it being to strong and they crisp it a little on the outside and leave it a little undercooked on the inside (just like Grandma used to make it). Bacon is topnotch as well as the coffee (great coffee). Tried the egg breakfast and couldn't finish all of it. Friendly waitstaff and great cooks. Definitely go back for more breakfast and to try lunch sometime.

Extremely cozy and quaint. Never have to wait for a table and the staff is very pleasant. Perfect for a rainy Sunday morning. My husband and I have been there twice so far and have not been disappointed. While most breakfast cafes serve the equivalent of Folgers coffee - this place serves very good drip coffee, not bitter at all. The green chili eggs are delicious as well as the breakfast burrito - nice medium serving size. The omelets are nice, again not too big. I had the ham, roasted peppers, and feta. The little roasted potatoes that come with egg dishes are delicious with a hint of seasoning. I have yet to try any syrup-required dishes. I do find it odd you can select "real maple syrup" for $1.50 extra....what do they give you if you don't ask for the real stuff?? Banana bread = delish. Scones, kind of bl and but a lean in the right direction. My one complaint is the menu - while it is small, I think the menu could be much more detailed and elaborate. The dishes are a tad plain. A few great dishes with big flavor and menu descriptions are best in my opinion. I recommend trying this spot!

I'm not sure how others define "homey" (dirty carpets? mediocre coffee?) but I longed to be at home after 15 minutes in this place. No espresso which seems an impossibility in Seattle. The drip coffee is worse than Starbucks which takes a lot of effort to pull off. Tiny omelets with few ingredient options (I realized later that their ingredient options were limited to non-perishables. Nothing fresh like spinach or artichokes). I ordered the short stack of pancakes and I'm pretty sure it was Bisquick; I thought that a little butter might help but my butter had a hair in it (really!). My BF ordered an omelet with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were dryish. Granted - the waitress had to be the friendliest waitress I've had in a long time. The 1-star is for her. Sorry to say I'll probably never see her again.

In a nutshell: mediocre food and bad service. The server repeatedly forgot about us. We had to go ask for menus; after bringing us our coffee we had to wait another 5 minutes for spoons to stir; getting coffee and water refilled was a test of patience. I ordered the green chili eggs, with the eggs over easy. The pork was dry and the eggs were totally undercooked (parts of the whites were clear), and when I sent it back, the server had the poor taste to come over and tell me I didn't know what over easy meant, and I should have ordered the eggs over medium. It took them maybe 15 minutes to redo my order, and they gave me over medium eggs, which still had poorly cooked whites. The only thing she did right was to comp our coffees. With so many great places to eat in the Ballard/Greenwood area, there is no reason to go back to this place (this was actually our second time to this restaurant- our mistake).

The staff is very nice and we had high hopes this cute place would be a good place for breakfast. Unfortunately, nothing about the meal was impressive. I'm not a good cook but even I could have slopped together better french toast and scrambled eggs. The french toast was dry, and came with hard, cold butter (a very small portion of butter). The maple syrup is an extra $1.50 and you get about a tablespoon. The portions were very small for the price.
