I enjoyed my classic chocolate chip cookie. The larger one was just $3. I know this sounds like a lot for a cookie, but it was enough for two people to enjoy. It was also buttery, soft, fresh and delicious. Perfect little after lunch snack. It's a very small shop. Our interactions with the service was very limited, but the cashier was fast, clean, friendly. I don't really have more expectations than that for a cookie shop.

For 7 lonnnng months, I had passed by CCC on my weekly walks to pick up dinner or head over to Pike Place. The sun was out, the birds were singing, the panhandlers were abound... but CCC was closed. Every time. Bar stools upside down on the tables, lights off. Bummer! Their early-closing was frustrating to no end. And then one day, we walked past the window and had a glimmer of hope that they might be open. Bar stools were back up on the tables, but the lights were on. The express window was open! WHAT?! So we stood there searching through the glass for signs of a human. And then there she was! Except she didn't come to the window with gratitude for our business... in fact, it was more annoyance that we had bothered her before closing. Yes, before closing. We got our chocolate chip and walnut chocolate chip cookies bagged up to go. A HUGE cookie and a pack of two medium-sized cookies. Took them home and my goodness they were delicious. No doubt about that. But if it's that much of an obstacle to get cookies, I may not have the energy to return here. Maybe in another 7 months?

Walked by this place twice and kept saying what is a "Cow Chip?!" So I finally stopped to find out. I ordered at the window and the woman was very sweet. I asked her a few questions before I decided, and she said they only had walnut/choc chip cookies left. She asked me if that was okay.... of course that's okay, that sounds amazing! And then she asked if I wanted 1 or 2. I said 1 and she said it was the same price for 2... of course I want two, that sounds amazing! Off I went back to the car where my husband was. I pull part of the cookie out and try it and then he notices the other cookie and immediately grabs it and starts stuffing his face whilst saying "can I have this one." Needless to say, they lasted about 30 seconds and what a glorious 30 seconds they were.

What a wonderful stop! Nestled with the book shops and art galleries of Seattle, this little cookie shop will definitely be worth the stop! The lady who owns the shop is very sweet and down to earth. The cookies were moist and delicious - I had the 'cafe' sized cookie but definitely should have gotten the cow size! Do yourself a favor and don't make the same mistake I did!

Chocolate chip cookies...in all shapes and sizes. The inside is very quaint, and straight to the point. You walk in and there are several options of cookies and treats. The woman working inside was also very nice and helpful. They also had a Clint Dempsey poster out front. Nothing better than supporting the local teams!

My BF works nearby and has brought home cookies after work from Cow Chip. I have tried several varieties but I think my favorites are oatmeal raisin and trail chip. One weekend I came here myself for an ice cream sandwich and I thought the service was terrible. The lady was rude! She did not even acknowledge us and had this "what do you want" attitude. The ice cream sandwich sucked, by the way. I much prefer how they do it at Hello Robin -- made to order so he cookies are room temp. These were completely frozen and hard to eat.

After my horrible experience at Magic Mouse Toys (see review on that) I decided to indulge my inner child in a different way IE: A nice chocolate chip cookie. Clearly they were more interested in my business and allowing me to feel young again through pastry. I had the intention of saving the cookies for the Bolt Bus home, however, magically between the walk from point A to B to the hostel before a show they disappeared....into my belly. No wonder I had no room for dinner later. The prices were very reasonable and the staff were amazing. Very soft cookies.

Cute cookies hope next to a bunch of bars in pioneer square. Their menu is straightforward and really cute (calf, cow, and bull chips, each cookie getting larger). They also sell day old cookies at a reduced price. My husband and I got a chocolate chip walnut day old cow chip. I felt it had too many chocolate chips and my husband thought too much vanilla. I would consider going there again and trying a different cookie to give it another shot.

On my way back from picking up my racing gear, I decided to swing by Cow Chip and grab a couple of cookies (not the best idea before a race, I suppose - but I was going to burn the calories off anyways). It was empty in the middle of Friday afternoon, so it was no trouble at all getting a quick order placed to go. I went with the chocolate chip cookie and the sugar cookie with sprinkles; I am glad to report that the chocolate chip cookie is freakin' awesome - definitely a friendly amount of butter in the cookie, and the chocolate is gooey as well. It's one of the more 'decadent' (if you can really use that adjective appropriately for this food item) cookies that I've had, and I would definitely get it again. The sugar cookie was disappointing; while it crumbles really softly and easily with each bite, the sprinkles are relatively flavorless, and I think the butter that helps give it great texture detracts from the flavor - it ended up tasting very plain, with barely any hint of sugar. That said, there's no doubt that the quality of the offerings here are high, and I'd return in a heartbeat for more chocolate chip, as well as definitely sampling their 'cow plop' raw cookie dough offering - it sounds like it belongs in ice cream!

I just realized today that I've never written a review for Cow Chips. This place is like as deliciously awesome as you can get for cookies (and trust me, I know my cookies). The cookies are so soft and chewy. And if you like em warm, take em home and just pop em in the oven for a couple of minutes. I always go for the chiplettes, less guilt. I can eat 6 and feel like i just ate 1 cookie. I also like the nutty chip. Walnuts covered all over the cookie, rather than just baked in here and there. Cow chips, you are my weakness...

Only gave this one star because I can't give it zero. Employee was very rude. Not nice at all. How can you not be happy selling cookies would not recommend. The cookies were not that great either.

  • Yvonne D.

Cow Chip totally got us by propping their doors open and the delicious smells of freshly baked cookies spill out onto the 1st Avenue. Unfortunately, we did not get one of the fresh cookies but rather one that was already on display and not quiet warm. It was pretty tasty but for $1.50 a cookie, I was expecting a little more (taste and/or size.) We've walked by this plenty of times and resisted going in but I'm glad to know now that it will be easy to resist in the future. (I am reading the Yelp reviews along side this posting and see people mentioning the 3 for $3 end of day special but that's still not going to get me to spend more money here. Some of the grocery stores have pretty fantastic cookies for less.)

Yummy! These cookies are old school and awesome. Dark chocolate white chips is the best! Also- old fashioned chocolate chip is good too!

This place is truly nothing special. I got a calf-chip cookie and it was rock hard. Tastes okay, could get better at Nestle Tollhouse or at home if you were so inclined. Wouldn't come back. Also... looks more like regular cookies than cow poops? Not sure what the joke is, hahaha.

These cookies are literally the best I've ever had in my entire life. And I have had a lot of chocolate chip cookies. I've been to this location and enjoyed some cookies and they were very tasty. Large, soft, not sickeningly sweet, but just perfect. I'm not even sure how I came across this place but I am so, so glad I did. Now, I don't live in Seattle so I can't get these cookies all the time, sadly. Actually, that may be a good thing because I'd probably set up a bed in this place and live there, eventually weighing in at 1,000 pounds due to excessive cookie consumption. But, I digress. I've had Cow Chips ship cookies to me on the opposite end of the country and guess what? They were still amazing. Cow Chip cookies are basically the best way to brighten someone's day. These cookies are amazing. End of story.

  • Carol G.

Yes, good. Worth $3 a cookie good? Not so much. This is a tiny little cookie shop right in the heart of Pioneer Square area that seems to have a cult following. Super sugary, super gooey, loaded with chocolate - cookies. If I had it to do over again, I'd walk by, enjoy the fantastic smells, but save my pennies and my tummy space for an artisan bakery item...

I friend bought the bull size and it was bigger than my face! Quite tasty too... I love popping into random stops and leaving impressed!

I'm not the worlds biggest cookie fan so take my review with a grain of salt (or butter - zing!) I am not going to lie I was very underwhelmed. Anyone can make giant anything or a lot of anything. But making it extraordinary takes something. Everyone else accompanying us was bananas about this place but I don't get it. Its just average cookies in an above average setting.

    (3)
  • Mira B.

I'm giving it a three star rating only due to the fact that the service is constantly terrible. I work several blocks from Cow Chip and have visited this location a good amount of time and EVERY single time the people at the register are terrible. They are always in some bad mood, never look up at you and acknowledge your presense if they are on the phone and are just completely rude. When she came up to the register she looked at me and when I asked for a few cookies she looked annoyed. The cookies themselves are delicious, very sweet and soft. But the customer service is absolutely terrible. They need their management to go over how to treat their customers.

Most days I would give this place a 5 star rating, but today a group of us received the worst customer service that I've experienced in a long time--and we are frequent customers!! We see these ladies around 1-3 times a week, and for YEARS we've been going!! Today, May 22, 2015 at 2:00PM: Four of us took a break from work to get several cookies for the office. I ordered first--asking how many M&M cookies there were. The cashier (older woman with long gray hair in a pony tail) asked how many were in the display and I said two. She said "well then, I have two." We had wanted four, so we had to do some readjusting with our orders. I ended up with a trail chip that was the smallest cookie I've ever received at Cow Chip, aside from the very small chocolate chip ones. As we got through the orders, the oven beeped and she opened it to turn the tray. One the tray were more than a DOZEN M&M cookies, among others. Obviously, we were all struggling to pick alternatives because they had a very slim selection: Nutty Calf and Oatmeal Raisin were pretty much it. One of us asked the cashier when the cookies that were in the oven would be done, and the woman said "in a few minutes." You could have offered that to us when it was obvious we wanted more than two M&M cookies, let alone the ones from the display. We waited inside for a few minutes and she eventually took the fresh cookies out of the oven. One of us went up to the cashier and said, "I'd like two M&Ms please." The cashier very rudely responded with "Well, I can't move them yet or they'll break." We asked how long before they cooled enough for purchase. The cashier responded with "Well, I don't know." So we left, and we won't likely be back until our sweet tooth craving becomes too strong to resist. It really saddens me that we were treated this way when we're all such loyal customers and really try to be pleasant when we go in and order. I just hope this woman was having a bad day and wasn't able to pull it together for her job, but if I experience this type of customer service again, I will not return. Cookie-wise, this is your place to go. The Trail Chip and M&M are definitely my favorites. Note: Do not go to this place after 2:00PM because they will be out of all the good options.

I ate the cookies. I ate ALL the cookies. Blast you Cow Chip for being so darn flippin delicious! Seriously. This is a problem. This location is on my walk home from work. You can smell the awesome cookies wafting through the sidewalk. Their sign said "bet you can't eat just one!" and they were right. So, so right. Cow Chip has plenty of options. The standard chocolate chip being my absolute favorite. White choc/macadamia, sprinkle, peanut butter, oatmeal, walnut...the list goes on. They are all fresh. The cookies are perfectly chewy. My only qualm is that the peanut butter needed more....peanut butter? Maybe peanuts too? Same with the macadamia nut...it tasted more like a sugar cookie. Probably just the one I got. I still devoured these of course. How can you not? $3 for a large cookie $1.50 for your standard size and for .30 you can get the mini choc. chips! So...so good. Thank goodness for the gym.

I have never eaten a better tasting chocolate chip cookie. Every trip to Seattle that I take I make sure I visit this place as many times as I can. The milk is amazing too! Honestly I have never had a better tasting cookie and bottle of fresh milk. I only wish they would branch out and have a location in Arizona but they do ship cookies!!!

  • Peter B.

These cookies are amazing. They are always fresh, which means the chocolate chips are melty and the cookie literally will bend over in half if you try to hold only one side. They are a stop we ALWAYS make before Seahawks and Sounders games (and the occasional Mariner game too...) They do have some end of the day deals that are better prices like 3 for $3 and whatnot, but to truly enjoy this place you gotta get them during the main store hours. My only complaint is that they are closed sometimes before the game start times. We, like many fans, go a couple hours early. If they were just open even an hour before game start (whether that means opening early or staying open late for the late games) they might get a few more customers. We love buying a baker dozen and heading in to the game. Anyway, this place is the best cookie I have had and you should give it a shot when you walk past.

Back in the day, I used to eat hella cookies. In recent years, I've cut back dramatically but still find occasion to head down to Cow Chip from my office. TIP: Cow Chip often has deals online from those coupon companies (you know who they are). The coupon will often get you half off a dozen cookies. The only catch is that you have to order them one day before you need them. The shop is full of that fresh baked scent that reminds me of being 8 years old, baking cookies with my mom. It's hard to beat such a powerful scent. The store is very clean and smallish in size. There are places to sit but it can't hold very many people. The counter is full of a variety of goodies like tiny, little, cutsie cookies that you need to eat 12 of in order to feel like you've eaten a whole cookie. During the week, they open at 10:00 AM. If you want fresh cookies, you should either order the day before or come after 10:00 AM. I have been disappointed to get there before the cookies out of the oven but never fear, if you're lucky you can buy day old ones at a discount. I don't care if it's a day old, do you? Customer service has always been friendly and helpful. I find the location very convenient to my office which makes picking up cookies for a meeting a breeze.

After a fun day in Seattle my fam and I ended with the underground tour which is right around the corner from here. My bro and I definitely needed some sugar and he had this place before so we walked over. The store was tiny and really dead. They had a lot of cookies and mini chips and stuff but it's $3 PER cookie. I couldn't really justify it and noticed $3 for 3 cookies for day old and got that instead. There were two sugar cookies and one double chocolate amaretto cookie in the pack and the double chocolate amaretto was AMAZING. The cookies weren't stale at all and it was actually a little better I think because it was a little dry so crunchier on the outside but still moist and chewy in the center (which is how my perfect cookie is). Service was eh, the lady didn't seem nice and just let me pay for the cookies.

  • Meagan F.

Delicious! We got the White Chocolate Macadamia, the M&M, and the Trail Chip cookies...yum! Apparently they are closed on Sundays, so since we went on a Monday, they were selling "day old cookies" from Saturday - 3 cookies in a bundle and the bundles were buy one get one free! We got 9 cookies for less than $8. The day old cookies were just as soft and fresh tasting as the others we bought.

Fortunately we were at the end of our Downtown taste spree when we passed Cow Chip. As usual, my companion exclaimed: "Oooh! Great cookies!!" when I pointed it out, but made to keep walking. I stepped forcefully toward the crosswalk so I could purchase a dozen mini cookies for $1.50 per 6. Great flavor and not overwhelmingly rich like Mrs. Fields with a good punch of vanilla flavoring. I'm not sweet on sweets so I try new treats sparingly but I'd make the trip here to get another little bag if I got the craving for great chocolate chip cookies.

I'm a huge cookie fanatic and I have to say that I wasn't a fan of these cookies, unfortunately. But, I enjoyed the service and that's why I'm giving it a 3. You can taste the love and feel the passion in the baking when you walk in. My expectations for cookies are: crispy around the cookie, and soft-ooey-gooey in the middle. This was all soft. Not my style. Taste wise, it was good. I ordered the "trail chip" which was peanut butter, oatmeal, cookie dough, chocolate chips and butterscotch. The "half calf" was okay. I feel these cookies would be perfect for ice cream sandwiches because they're so soft and chewy. They should do that!

Cookies! Nuff said. Chocolate Chip, Choco Chip with nuts, Amaretto, and Lemon. All good. I actually liked the Amaretto the best which surprised me.

These cookies never get old! They are the perfect amount of sweet, doughy and chocolate-chippy. Grab a cow chip which is a large-sized cookie for $3 or get a bull chip (huge) to share.

My wife and I tried their cow chips for the first time and we found that they are seriously good chocolate chip cookies!

WOW. Explosion of delicious buttery goodness in my mouth! This cute little cookie shop is located in Pioneer Square. They are open 'til 6pm Monday through Saturday. I waltzed in ten minutes after 6pm thinking they would turn me way, but I learned that a lot of stuff in the area stays open an hour later whenever there's a Huskies game. Awesome! The lady was really friendly, and happily served me my little cookie. In regards to flavor and texture, I was initially skeptical, because I didn't see any freshly-baked cookies (since it was the end of the day), but ohmygoodness. They don't need to be freshly-baked to be good. You can either get a full cow chip, or a half-size calf chip. I figure that eating a full size cookie will make you instantly gain ten pounds, while the calf chip will only make you gain five. Regardless, I will definitely come here again! Don't forget to take home one of their free stickers!

    (4)
  • Chris G.

The cookies here taste yummy! They place the yummy cookies inside a small bag and on the outside of that small bag they disclose their ingredients, which is nice until you read them. "Coloring added seasonally, Artificial Flavoring" Thanks but no thanks. It least that don't add any preservatives.

I walk by this place every day, twice a day. Let's just say, it's so hard to resist not getting a cookie multiple times a day. After a long while of holding out, I stopped in. A very small location, only a few tables available, but the ambiance isn't what you are there for. I ordered a cow chip or the "regular" size ($3). I used quotations because it is a pretty big cookie! I ordered chocolate chip, a personal favorite of mine. What happened next: fireworks and cookie bliss in my mouth! The cow chip cookie is the perfect balance of gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside. After raving about a 'cookie', my husband asked I bring him home one, you know "to see what all the fuss was about". On his first bite, with a mouthful of cookie he managed to sputter "oh my god" as he devoured the thing. I am not sure how they stay in business since all they seem to sell are cookies and soda, and it is empty every time I walk in. Nonetheless, you gotta try one!

I visit Seattle every few years (CA native) and when I do, toward the top of my "stuff to do" list is hit up Cow Chips. Never in my life have I been so excited to get a sticker (or, ahem, 10), and never in my life have I been so excited for a moist, chewy, chocolate chip cookie. But the last time I went, I came away even more joyful when I had a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. These are simple, home-made delights that I have dreamed about my first few nights back in my California apartment. I've even gone so far to put a dozen cookies on my Christmas wish list.

Smelled so good from outside it lured me in. This is how cookie spots make their money, srsly. I just indulged in a small chocolate chip cookie which was good but didn't set itself apart from other cookies I've had. Might be delish for making mini ice cream sandwiches with......

  • Jennifer W.

Funny. Novelty. I got a chiplette (morsel of cookie) for 0.30 and a cow plop (ball of cookie dough) for 1.25. The cookie was nothing spectacular. I've had better chocolate chip cookies in my lifetime. The cookie dough was alright as well. The concept is cute and fun, but this is only something I would try for fun and only once.

HUGE COW PIE! lol Cute little cookie shop that has unique names for the different size of cookies. They also had fresh ice cream sandwiches made with a heaping vanilla ice cream scoop in the middle of two cookies. We shared a original with walnuts but i can't remember the name =( It was a really good cookie and I would go back for more!

The cookies are tasty, the service is terrible. Myself and my family walked into cow chip on 1st ave this weekend, drawn in by the smell of fresh baked deliciousness, to find that we were the only ones in the store apart from a single employee. We stood at the counter no more than 5 feet from the lady working and she didn't look up from what she was doing to acknowledge that we were there for about two minutes. We revived a gruff "I'll be a minute" and then the employee went right back to dropping cookies on a sheet and putting them in the oven. After about 5 minutes, she approached the counter and looked at us waiting for our order; no "hi, how are you?" or "what can I get you?", just an annoyed blank stare. We ordered a dozen cookies, asking if we could mix and match, and received a resounding "no". The employee put the cookies in a box, took the money, turned around without another word and went back to dropping cookies into a cookie sheet. The cookies were sweet, but we all left with a pretty bad taste in our mouth!

This place sells cookies and only cookies and I had cookies and only cookies on my mind after this weeks Yelp newsletter. I don't think this place even sells coffee. My favorites are the chipettes--the cute little two bite cookies--or the ones with nuts. They each have cutsy cow related names. Tip: get the day old cookies for half price--or for a better perspective: DOUBLE THE COOKIE

Absurdly good. Swung by after a beast of a large lunch. Picked up a dozen chocolate chip cookies. Took a bite. And before I knew it, I'm on my fourth cookie. These are the best cookies I've ever had, bar none. Gf agrees, this place is da shizzle.

What happened to my first review? It disappeared. I dunno, maybe I ate it. All I know is, its sure not as good as these cookies. Soft in the middle, laden with chocolate chips and huge chunks of walnuts, AND made with butter! Add a cup of coffee (not hard to find in this city), and you have reached cookie paradise. As good as the best homemade. Nice thing is, depending on how intense is your guilt factor, you can practice restraint, or not. There are mini bite sized on up to a small pizza size.

I should NOT be reviewing Cow Chip on an empty stomach whilst having a sweet tooth. If you pop in near the end of their business day you'll get a 3 cookies for just $3! They close pretty early too so this is not hard to accomplish. In fact, on some days they'll even let you pick all 3 cookies if they haven't started to pre-package them. The walnut choc chip and the peanut butter cookies are my favorite. OH! And who can forget the choc/choc chip? Nothing beats a cookie when you need a sugar fix. It's hard to walk by Cow Chip and not buy a cookie. The people that work there are always really pleasant too!

I was visiting in Seattle for 3 days, and I came here twice. The first time was primarily because I thought the concept of the "Original 'drop' cookie" being hilarious. The second time was because I happened to pass by the shop again on the way to the Pikes Place Farmers Market. I chose to come here again simply because I truly did enjoy the cookie the first time around with a savory sense tingling my taste buds lingering in my mouth. I love cookies, but this stuff was like crack-the good kind. If you don't get what they mean by Cow Chips being a drop cookie, just think of a cookie being a piece of cow turd. A delicious one. This definitely beats Mrs. Fields or Nestle stores because the cookies are baked in batches throughout the day. They are very fresh with a soft texture throughout the cookie. The edges are not hard, since the cookie is evenly baked. The dough will melt in your mouth and perhaps in your hand if it is hungry. Take some napkins, that's for sure. On both my occasions the store worker gave me an idea as to what was fresh, too hot to consume, and in the oven. Having extra information helps, and creates for an appreciation as the customer is treated as a person. Most businesses like to simply sell you the food without telling you how fresh the ingredients or item is, but this approach (despite just selling cookies) was refreshing to me. I felt like I could make a sound decision in getting cookies, including in getting the big Bull Chip. The taste is still lingering in my mouth. Yum.

Walking through downtown Seattle after eating some Jimmy John's, I just couldn't resist the smell of fresh baked cookies coming from this neighboring store. I ordered 3 cookies: the chocolate chip cookie, the snickerdoodle, and the double chocolate amaretto. Despite the different flavors, I still liked the chocolate chip one the best. Tasted home-made, and was nice and chewy. The other cookies were okay too, but the chocolate chip really hit home for me. Deeelicious.

Addicted to goodness? My coworker is and practically every time we are walking in the vicinity of Cow Chip cookies, we "have to stop" needless to say, I usually enjoy the spoils from this cow chip wonderland with a satisfied combination of sweet and delicious. They have mastered the art of a good, rather, real-good chocolate chip cookie. They are stacked with value as is indicated by the three varieties of bright yellow stickers that can be grabbed as you pay. Or the "rustic" benches to reminisce on days gone by while pounding your second, third or sixth cookie for lunch, brunch or just whenever...that truly is the magic of a good cookie. It is good at any time of the day!

This brand as a few locations in Seattle. I'm sorta randomly reviewing this one because it's the one I remember better. My friend and I went here to satiate a small cookie craving. We were also very thirsty. The lady at the counter was very nice and gave us our cookies -- mmm chewy and delicious. When we then asked for water, she was very friendly. We then asked for more water and she rummaged behind a wall for a bit. There was the sound of water running and some sort of scubbing. When she re-emerged, she presented us with a water bottle that was left many weeks ago and never picked up by a customer. She said to us, someone left it and never came back to get it. Now it's yours. Way to go for initiative and helpfulness!

I had a calf cookie while its warm. I didn't understand what that meant at first, but when I realized later that whether a cookie is a cow, a calf, or a bull is dependent its size. A calf cookie is the smallest of them all. The cookie was crispy on the outside and the inside was soft and had melted chocolate chips. Overall I thought the cookie was too sweet and I can't imagine eating a regular-sized one. I was impressed that they managed to drop the cookie dough and make cookies in someone regular size.

This was my first time at this location. I haven't had a cow chip cookie since I was a kid at Redmond Town Center. Loved it just as much as I did then. The location is small, with limited seating. But you can get a big ol cow chip cookie for 3 bucks and bring it to the stadium for dessert and save some money while you are at it. Nice lady working and oh my, the smells! Delicious. Street parking... Come while you are walking around Pioneer Square.

Haiku-sized review: Cow Chip cookies rock I love the Easter egg one Fresh chiplettes? the best! Slightly-fuller review: This place has amazing chocolate chip cookies. Like seriously, the best I've ever had in my life. My girlfriend loves chocolate chip cookies, and has probably baked more than a dozen different variants in her search for the perfect batch. Hers are great, Cow Chip's are the BEST. They had special Easter egg cookies available when we went, which were basically giant egg-sized cookies. Verdict? Awesome. We also had a bunch of chiplettes, which are mini $0.30 cookies, and they were still hot and gooey. Verdict? Double awesome. Go, buy cookies, enjoy. Repeat.

There's nothing like a soft, sweet and fresh chocolate chip cookie to bring a smile to your face. It's one of the ultimate cheer-you-up comfort foods - especially after a bad day. These things are powerful. Cow Chip does them right: the perfect balance of generously sized semi-sweet milk chocolate chips in my cookie, along with the softness of the batter and overall sweetness that touches your lip. A calf chip (medium sized) does it for me, but next time, I'll go for the bull chip when I'm need of the pick me up. After all, milk and cookies are a grown-up's best friend, right? Of course!

Darn what a sweet place this is! Is there anything better than a warm, gooey, M&M cookie paired with a mini white chocolate macadamia nut cookie in the other hand while your loved one pours hot cider down your throat because you refuse to let go of either cookie? Um, no. This place does scream gimmick but it's half as cheap as any Mrs. Fields and it gives you SUCH a variety of cookies and sizes for such great prices that you gotta forgive them for such an awful idea as "cow chip" and "droppings." By the way, it's called "droppings" because of the method of placing the cookie batter onto the sheets. Ha ha...not really. The great thing about their cookies is the fact that you can taste the butter in every bite. Why kid yourself with Olean or vegetable shortening when you can get yourself cookies with the real thing? Butter! Extra star for the real pronounceable products.

I thought my cookie was expensive for being a single cookie-- but I guess they have to pay rent. Still, not a mind-blowing cookie-- wasn't even warm-- so I probably won't go back. Store was tiny with just a couple of tables that were all full when I was there, so expect to take your cookie to go.

The choc chip cookies were warm and gooey, yet still yummily crispy around the edges. Scrumptious!

Maybe it's because I am not a local, but honestly, I don't think cow chip cookies are the great. I mean don't get me wrong, they are really good. But when a place specializes in chocolate chip cookies, and they charge $3 for a cookie, these things better be life changing. Let me tell you, they aren't. Honestly, I prefer the chocolate chip cookies at Costco. My boyfriend loves Cow Chip, but that may be for nostalgic purposes. He grew up eating Cow Chip at Sonic's games with his dad. So whenever we are at Pioneer Square or the Fair, he always has to get one. When a groupon came up for a dozen calf chips for $10, I got it for him. Mind you, we were fatties and ate the whole dozen in 2 days, personally, I didn't think they were that great. We also tried the double chocolate amaretto, which was too fruity for me. Don't get me wrong, the chocolate chip cookies taste fine, but they aren't worth all the hype. Hopefully the dozen got the craving out of his system at least until the Puyallup Fair.

I thought the cookies here were ok but they weren't much different from the Nestle ones that I make at home. Actually, I probably prefer the ones I make at home because at least I can eat those while they are still warm from the oven. The ones here are soft and chewy enough, but they weren't extraordinary. Won't be coming back.

I always enjoy popping in here when I'm in Seattle. Yummy, warm, soft fresh cookies! Always enjoy what i get. And if you're having a really bad day, have a cow plop- a hunk of cookie dough on a stick! 4 stars instead of 5 only because they are a tad pricey and I've had cookies just as good. They are totally delicious and worth the stop, but I wouldn't say it's the best cookie on the planet.

WOW. I had done some quick research on yelp before hitting up Seattle, but hadnt found this on yelp before the trip started. THANKFULLY, we ran into this little shop while walking around. These cookies are so buttery delicious and the menu made me laugh. You have your choice of a calf chip (small cookie), cow chip (big cookie), bull chip (huge cookie), and the herd (??). Inside there is stool seating by the window if you like to people watch, or your choice of three small tables to sit at if you just want to sit and savor every last bite of the cookie. If I hadnt eaten so much earlier in the day I would have scarfed down another cookie. Yummie!

  • Amy M.

I seriously haven't had a cookie from here that I didn't like. They have quite a selection of different cookies so everyone should be able to find something! I personally am a sucker for all things peanut butter and their white chocolate macadamia is super yummy. As for the chocolate chip, the chip to cookie ratio is right on for me. Sometimes when you go in you can also get a 3 pack of "day old" cookies for $3 which is pretty cool. I mean come on, day old? That's nothing! So stop in, treat yourself to some yummy goodness. You won't regret it!

    (4)
  • Christine C.

The cookies..are..SO good. I didn't get a fresh one because the day old ones are cheaper and who doesn't like cheaper? Day old was still delicious.

This place has a wide selection of cookies- both full size (huge) and small (the size I would make at home). The cookies are displayed in a glass case, and the presentation is good. We went with the easy choices- Chocolate Chip with Walnuts and Chocolate Chip. Both were solid examples of the good old American soft cookie, with melty chocolate chips, and a good amount of walnuts in the walnut cookie. Overall, this place sells a solid cookie. Nothing to write home about, and nothing to go out of your way for. But if you're close by and want a treat, you won't be disappointed if you stop in.

It's like home made cookies without the time and effort. Warm, gooey and delicious. They also have cookie dough bites, which is essentially a scoop of cookie dough on a spoon - YUM!

  • Jessi M.

I don't really know how to explain Cow Chip...every cookie I've ever had here brought me profound happiness. Even their day old cookies are amazing! The ladies who work here are polite and professional, the cookies are delicious (and I am pretty particular). If you are downtown, take a detour to Pioneer Square and grab a Cow Chip. This is quite possibly one of the few sanitary places in the neighborhood and more than worth visiting. BTW, the day olds are half off and a friend tells me that if you get there around closing they will also do that days cookies for half off. Your co-workers will love you! Mine certainly do :-D

Mmmmm.... A bag of six chiplettes for 1.50? Just around the corner from my office? I am so there. This place is a diet breaker and unapologetically so. They do one thing, and they do it well. Is it cookie o'clock yet?

  • Lisa T.

Stopped by right before a Mariner's game to pick up a few sweet treats. I was stopped in my tracks by seeing the face-sized choc chip cookie. I believe they call it the "bull." It is HUGE! But also $6...no thanks. Instead, I opted for the regular cookie in choc chip, peanut butter, and their "baby ruth" flavor. I thought the choc chip was pretty good...but not as awesome as Specialty's. I enjoyed the Baby Ruth too...soft and chewy, and a great delicious buttery flavor. Was not impressed with the peanut butter. It had a good texture, but a weak, almost weird flavor. At $1.50 per cookie for just normal size, I felt it was a bit pricey. If I go back, it will most likely be b/c I'm just in that area...I don't think I'd seek it out (as I have sometimes with Specialty's).

As soon as I saw Jennifer L's ROTD about face-sized cookies, I just knew I HAD to try this place. So glad that I did! Her description of the bull-sized cookie was completely accurate. The ginormous chocolate chip cookies had me salivating! Although, I was a bit more modest with my purchasing, the next time I visit this gem, I will for sure be a piggy and grab the bull by its horns :D. Their cookies were soft, chewy, and "udderly" delicious. From their chipletts to their original cow chip, I enjoyed every bite. I did try their double chocolate amaretto and was a bit disappointed that it was a bit dry, hence the star I took away. But rest assured I will give that cookie a second chance and this place umpteenth visits again and again. Added bonus is that if you want to pinch your pennies, you can purchase day-old cookies for a discount. Sounds like a deal to me!

I have said this before (see my review about the cookie place in Denver), but I know my chocolate chip cookies. I am a connoisseur, and I can safely say that Cow Chip ranks among the top purveyors of chocolate chip cookies in existence. I didn't even know this place existed until I wandered past it on my way from Pike Place Market to the Central Public Library, and it just so happened it had opened about 30 seconds prior to my arrival. There weren't even cookies out on display in the baskets yet, they were all still on cooling racks, freshly removed from the oven! Needless to say, the cookie (I got the $1.50 size, a very standard-sized cookie, and apparently there are two larger sizes) was warm and gooey, but crispy in all the right places, with a nice buttery flavor that isn't too heavy. If I weren't currently despondent about my recent grad-school-induced weight gain, I'd pick up a few more for the flight back to SF. Ah well.

All I can say is , "Mooooo!" Give me my cow chips! I've been here twice: -once with the bf: we got regular chocolate chip cow chips, which were warm, gooey & had that combination of chewy and soft that a cookie should be. - once I came here with the women in my family (mom, grandma, cousin) & had the chocolate chip (again) & tried the double chocolate amaretto. I figure, hey I like to drink amaretto, so I might like to eat it...ummm, not so much. The combination of chocolate & amaretto was a little too sweet & overwhelming (i know, i can't believe I'm complaining about something being too sweet...) Next time I come in, I'm sticking to the regular chocolate chip & I'll have a few of those cool yellow stickers to-go, please.

There didn't seem to be a lot of variety of cookies on the day that I went. About 3-4 different kinds. They had some day old 3-pack cookies for sale also, but I just wanted to try 1. I didn't think they were amazingly special...they just seemed like decent cookies. The lady at the counter was not particularly friendly either.

Do you want to feel as exhilarated as if you won the big Mega Millions prize? Here's a very simple formula: 1. Get yourself a steaming cup of Lighthouse, Umbria, Fiore or Vivace Coffee. 2. Get a bag of 6 Mini Original Chocolate Chip Cookies from Cow Chip Cookies. 3. Stay about five minutes at the store chit-chatting with the very nice and sweet people that work there. 4. Go home or to a special place. 5. Put on "Noble Beast" by Andrew Bird. Pump up the volume. 6. Enjoy your cookies with coffee. Dip them. Chew them for a long time. Let the chocolate bathe your taste buds. Let the sugary dough caress your tongue. The best things in life can come in a $1.50 paper bag. Thanks, Cow Chip Cookies for making me feel like a millionaire!

Walking by this place at 10am with wafts of irresistible cookie scent crowding your nose makes Cow Chip Cookies a bit hard to pass up. A freshly baked cookie, still warm & chocolate oozing out was a perfect pre-breakfast treat :) Cow Chips is a tiny, but warm & welcoming place to pick up a few cookies while out strolling the area. Greeted by a friendly lady, she helped us right away. They carry a variety of cookies including chocolate chip, m&m, snickerdoodles, etc. The cookies also come in mini, regular, and a bigger size. Costs a little more than a standard cookie, but it's worth the indulging. Mmmm....being around since 1883 has paid off! So, a Cow chip throwing contest? Yes, one where I strategically throw them into my mouth! (the cookie, not the poopy!) :)

We went in after doing the Seattle Underground Tour (awesome - highly recommend the tour) for a few cookies. The best ones were the full size $3 cookie, most chewy goodness for the price, and the double choclolate amaretto. I also was excited that they will sell you a single serving of cookie dough and after tasting the cookie decided to get that. Well, they only get 4 stars because the woman working (11/10) was so rude. She must not have been the same person the other reviewers were served by. After I ordered 2 cookies, she asked if that was all. When I said no, she looked irritated. I continued picking out things, and when she put the tiny little plop of cookie dough in a bag I commened that it looked small. She said, "It's just enough to eat," and sort of squished up her face at me. As it turns out the cookie dough was not nearly as good as the baked cookies - and I had more than enough to enjoy with all of the other items I ordered.

I have spent way too much of my life (wasting away) here. First of all, yes, Cow Chips alludes to the fact that these cookies look like cow poop. Don't bother trying to make a joke, we've heard them all over and over again. You might get a pity laugh, but for real, the poo jokes get old. So you decide to walk toward the counter despite the farm animal reference. You'll see a display full of cookies that were baked that day. The right hand display will be full of chocolate chip cookies in various sizes and the left hand display case will be full of colorful cookies in just one size. Yes, the display cookies are real so don't freak out if the cookie girl wearing the apron spatulas out one of these for your enjoyment. Yes, you can buy just one. Don't feel forced to buy bulk. In fact, if you are going to buy more than a dozen PLEASE call ahead! Then the nice person working at the store will not only be able to guarantee you'll have fresh cookies waiting for you to pick up, but it will make whoever is working less stressed out! Trust me, it's really stressful running out of cookies. Anyway! The right hand display contains only Chocolate chip and Chocolate chip walnut cookies. These are: Chiplettes, the smallest cookies, are 1.50 for six. These are good if you want to fool yourself into thinking you're not eating so much. They are also good because they provide the greatest chocolate chip to dough ratio. Seriously. Calf Chips are the most 'normal' sized as well as the most popular cookies here, and go for 1.25 each. Nutty Calfs, which is just a Calf Chip with walnuts on top. This is easily my favorite cookie available, the walnuts are SO GOOD all toasted in the oven. Cow Chips and Nutty Cows, which are exactly twice the size of Calf Chips and exactly double the price. Bull Chips are the best value as far as the most cookie for your money. They come out weighing a little more than two Cow Chips. However, these are the cookies that are always the most well done. If you want something really soft go with anything smaller than this monster. BUT they are the only cookie that you can get a 'cool' souvenir box, if that's your thing. In the left hand display are the "everything else" cookies. Every cookie is 1.25 and the only unique cookie flavor we have, which also happens to be really good is the Mock Baby Ruth. It contains oatmeal, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and butterscotch chips. Cool Stuff: Free stickers! They're near the register and there are three different sayings for all you tourists and sentimental locals to collect. The best time to come is 5:30 when Cow Chips Happy Hour, or End-of-the-Night-Special starts. That day's cookies go on sale for half price! The microwave isn't just there for my Thai leftovers...just ask and the cow hand will warm up your Mock Baby Ruth for you! The coffee is not only decent, but also DIRT cheap. A 10oz will set you back $0.75 and a 12oz will cost you a buck. If you like Lipton, a tea will be $0.75 as well. Bottles of water juice are 1.25! Everything here already has the tax figured in...so your calf chip and bottle of ruby red grapefruit will be $2.50. It's so easy. Things to avoid: Coming here between noon and 1. Everyone else will be here, too. Cowiches. These are ice cream sandwiches made with our cookies. They aren't that good.

There is nothing that Mrs. Fields or Mr. Spunkmeyer can do or so to get me to change my mind on Cow Chip Cookies. Nothing in the world is more ridiculously satisfying than a massive 12 inch wide beast of a cookie dripping warm chocolate down your wrist while you break into manageable morsels to feed your clan. What's better is Cow Chip offers so much more than just your regular Chocolate Chip cookie fare, they offer a large variety of cookie flavors and they range in size from tiny one inch pieces to unholy abominations of cookie that more resemble pies than they do cookies. Located on First Avenue in the heart of the Pioneer Square tourist triangle Cow Chip is a great place to stop at any time. Especially on the way down to a game at Qwest or Safeco. Try it once and you will be addicted, and as long as you don't end up on the corner shaking that cup in my face looking for change to get your next "Cow Fix" then this is one addiction you can live with.

So...the only reason I stepped foot in here was because I saw someone with this sticker that said "I ATE ONE...COW CHIPS" and I wanted to get one of those stickers for free to put on my laptop or something. So I went in and bought three mini "lil calf craps" cookies, or whatever they are called...30 cents each, I do believe. They were extremely yummy, and I also got one of those stickers. Next time I go back, I think I will graduate from lil calf craps to the MONDO cow cookies...they rate high on my cookie list. If you are a fan of soft cookies in particular, check this place out. Oh, and the lady who works there is very kindly and has a warm smile!

  • Desiree V.

Love them! I think they are so good because you can taste the salt in them and I like that in a cookie. Doesn't taste all fakey. I had never tried them before and I'm picky about my chocolate chip cookies so I had a little one to try and loved it so I got a big one too!

    (5)
  • Steven H.

Good cookie but nothing spectacular. Would I buy another one? Sure, cuz i just love cookies, but there was nothing memorable about it. The cookies are moist and tasty like a cookie should be. The store is pretty plain too and the service is just ok. I think what drew me in was the weird name and signage.

I stuck with the traditional Cow Chip Cookie. AMAZIING. Heading back to Seattle to get another.

  • Carrie H.

Not too shabby. What makes this place different is how the cookies stay soft, as opposed to Mrs. Fields. This is also better because you don't have to go to the mall to get one! Spunkmeyer may have a close runner-up, but ever since I "tossed my cookies" so to speak in high school, Otis has to take a backseat. Ah, memories.

I'm pretty sure it is unethical to review a place where one was a former employee, but i'm going to anyway since I've been really jonesin' for a cow chip since i left last summer. I worked as a cow hand for a little under a year, where i got to the point of hating all form of cookie. But I can testify to the magical experience of a fresh baked cow chip cookie. Unless you have a kick-ass industrial oven at home, you won't be able to make a cookie as good. Don't be cheap either and go for the day old batch, unless you have to bring some back to your grumpy room mates. The fresh ones are where it's at. Your friendly cow hand also ought to have some variety freshly baked. Trust me, i'm an expert.

Had a bull chip while we walked by and I have to say, it was one tasty cookie! The cookie was moist, delicious, and savory. I'd recommend this cookie to anyone!

The smell is intoxicating, the cookie... well, it's okay. I've walked by so many times and was always tempted by this delicious smell flowing out onto the sidewalk. Well, I finally went in and ordered a nice sample of the wares to share. The cookies are alright. Honestly, better than store bought but not better than homemade. To me, they were undercooked, over-floured, and way too sweet. I really like to make sure my deserts are worth it, and well, I would pass on this place and find something tastier.

  • Donna S.

Went here on the advice of a guidebook (in Seattle for the weekend) which promised the best, messiest chocolate chip cookier ever...was sorely disappointed. There was no one in the store, which should have been a clue. Ordered two chocolate chip regular size cookies. I asked the unfriendly clerk if there were any that were warm, fresh from the oven, and she just said "no" and shoved two in a bag. They were unimpressive and undercooked. The only mess about them was the grease, not delicious gooey chocolate like I expected.

First ran into Cow Chips when I was working my contract at Microsoft in Building 117 (Now Studio H) and let me say these cookies are outstanding. If you manage to get them out of the oven you are in for an out of this world treat. Go big and take some home to microwave the next day. Pro tip, take a cookie and use it as a mix in at Coldstone. Cannot go wrong with that, and my teeth cry out in pain just typing it.

I haven't been in Seattle in YYYEEEAAARRSSS! I was a teenager...BUT, the best part of my trip to Seattle was goin into this shop and having that delicious chocolate chip Cow Chip. I still think about how gooey and soft it was...and COOKED all the way through. Man that was good. Oh and seeing my uncle was cool too :)

    (5)
  • My C.

How can you go wrong with cookies served fresh and hot right out of the oven? You can't. And each cookie was loaded with chocolate chips, there were barely any space left for the cookie dough itself! The shop itself is very small and quaint with maybe 2 tables for you to stop and enjoy your cookies there. I really should've tried their humungo cookie, but the little nibblers were just too cute to pass up on.

April 2006, when I came with my mom to Seattle to visit my now new home, I decided to go next door to Fenix Tatoo as a dare from my mother to get a butterfly to remember my first trip. So since she hates seeing me get anything on my skin, she went next door to Cow Chip cookies to get me a chocolate chip cookie and milk and waited outside until I was done. Needless to say, it was one of the best cookies I ever had. The cookies were moist and warm. The guy behind the counter was cute too!!

Chocolate chip cookies don't come any better. You know those soft, undercooked morsels that no domestic kitchen is capable...yah those cookies. These cow chips are the gorging type, the antithesis of the pioneer chip...you know what I mean. Cheers!

  • Jennifer C.

came here after reading all the reviews of how good these cookies are. i got the chocolate chip 'cow chip cookie' and not the huge gigantic one as i thought it would be a little excessive. i consider myself a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur and found these to be excellent. the edges are just a little bit crispy, while the center is nice and soft and chewy. i lucked out and got one that had just came out of the oven so it was extra yummy. i thought it was neat that they had their day old cookies in 3 packs for $3. it gave me a chance to try their snicker doodles and get a few choc chip cookies to bring home. i didn't mind that they were from the day before since they all felt very soft and i wouldn't be eating them fresh anyways since i would be taking them back to CA the following day. i would definitely recommend coming here if you're a cookie lover like myself. i can be somewhat superficial and judge food by appearance only and i have to say out of all the bakeries i came across in pike place market, none of the cookies looked nearly as good as cow chips. it's only a short walk from pike place market and well worth it if you are in search of a really yummy cookie.

Cow chip cookies? That is one sorry excuse for a chocolate chip cookie, more like cow patty cookies.

    (1)
  • Maria C.

Screw moderation, if you're going to get a cookie, get a big one, the cow chip at least. There's no better way to eat a double chocolate amaretto cookie - my favorite. Lemon sugar is second favorite. Regular old chocolate chip is meltingly good, but I can do almost as well baking at home.

Cow chip! Honestly, the cookies aren't that special, but they do hit the right spot.
