5 stars because they will not serve an Irish car bomb. What a dumb drink. Plus they always have the Mariners game on no matter how much they stink.

Cool small place, but it can get very hot and if there's a decent crowd (50 plus) it can get tight

Wow, so glad I stopped in! This place has lots on tap and a really relaxing vibe. Seemed like a lot of the "proper" locals and not the pretentious Balladites. (whatever that means; you know what it means) There's live music pretty often, so stop in and make some cool music-minded friends, the bartender was cool.. there's really nothing much to eat, but they will let you bring stuff in from the outside. So total win.

This was a great time on Halloween night. Went to a bar next door trying to charge $10 cover; we said eff that and came here, which was a monumentally great decision. Crowded, but not too uncomfortably so, good drinks, and in the middle of it all, a full-on marching band comes in, surrounds the pool tables and gave a great show! Later a regular band took the stage, and it was quite entertaining.

Came here on a a Friday night. $8 cover and the horrendous music started after we paid for our $6.60 beers. The place cleared out so fast once the music started. It really was some of the worst music I've ever heard. I hope it's not like this every weekend, but I won't gone back to find out.

So we arrived, had many a Guinness, but apparently they will not serve an Irish car bomb here. 0 stars.

Great place. Open mic on Sundays are awesome, such an awesome line up of local musicians. It might be hard to get into the list of performers since it's pretty popular. And as someone who doesn't drink, this place has the best homemade ginger ale. Obsessed.

I've been coming here off and on for many years now, and still have yet to feel the traditional warmth that other Irish pubs are intrinsically known for. I believe it stems from the overwhelming Victorian layout with a grand bar to the left and stage in the back with tall ceilings and dark wood which leaves it feeling cold and gravely lacking any intimacy. Also, the staff can be a bit slow and ineffective at times, even as much as never hearing of the common cocktail you're attempting to order. Ambiance aside, the music is the main reason to show up. Connor Byrnes is renowned for its long history of Irish folk singers coming from around the globe, choosing to play here over all other venues. That alone, is worth the step inside!

Sometimes I forget about Conor's, since it's been there so long, like an old friend. But recently I escaped for a dose of reality after an "Are you kidding me?" disappointing dinner at Stoneburner. Conor's is always friendly and without an ounce of pretension, not easy to find on Ballard Avenue these days. It's clearly the best place to drink a Guinness in town, and they also make a mean Moscow Mule. I'm glad I remembered it's also a haven away from the hipsters. So drop in if you are looking for a comfortable place to to relax.

Stopped by here not too long ago for a show. This place is pretty good by my book! The staff was friendly and they had a few ciders to choose from, which is always a plus. Sound was decent too. Overall, I loved the vibe. Felt nice and cozy on a chilly night!

I especially love the Monday night Bluegrass Jam-great place to meet friends and see fun, live music during the week.

Heard a band playing and dropped in . Sounds great in here. Homemade ginger ale. Wow. The band just played a funky version of a Nine inch nails song.

This place is pretty darn cool. We went for a Bluegrass/Old Time Music night. The music was great all night. In fact it really drew in people that were just walking by. There really weren't many people there at all though. The one bar tender had no problem holding the place down. We did get hungry and had to bail for tacos. We will definitely be back again.

Soup of the Day: Whiskey Seriously? You are my favorite bar now. The ginger and Jameson is pretty much heaven in a glass as well. Perfect place to go if Walrus & Carpenter gives you a "1 to 2 hour" wait for a table. More perfect place to go if Jameson is one of your food groups.

Go here!!!!!!! Chill. Cheep. Classy Irish bar. Watching breakfast club and drinking Rainer. First time here. Herd they play live music.

I had a blast here checking out the live music and meeting new friends in Ballard. The bartender was super friendly and the entire vibe here reminds me of a friends home bar. Just way bigger!

Made it here for an early NYE Ballard scamper. I do have to say that this was a great place to start the night. The warm and big bar was chill, and the barkeep was cool. Since this is an Irish pub, my bro and I went with Black & Tans (Smithwicks with Guiness layered on top). My sister in law had a Hot Totty, which I stole a drink of and found mighty tasty. They played some nice music---good drinkin' music, and they were fixin' ta get ready for a band on this particular evening (I heard they have bands here most nights). So yes, I now have a new pub to call home when I'm haunting Ballard.

Went here for a show on Friday night. The place definitely has an "old pub" feel, with exposed brick, an old heavy wooden bar and vintage art. Combine this with live music and some good beer and you have yourself a pretty good night. The place is rather narrow and long, which makes it difficult to see the band from the far end of the bar and also difficult to make your way toward the stage if you want to dance, especially when the place gets crowded. All this is mostly OK, though, because smallness creates intimacy which is much of the charm for places like this. My main disappointment lay in the fact that they had neither a wheat beer of any kind nor a porter on tap. Considering these are two of my favorite kinds of beer, and both fairly popular, I was surprised and disappointed. Good ambience, fun crowd, lackluster beer selection (at least currently).

  • Robb M.

Stopped in to watch the Seahawks whomp on the Rams. Bar is dive, which is fine, but probably comes to life later than 2:00 pm. The place was pretty full, and there was only one bartender for the whole place, tables included. Bartender was polite but not especially urgent; we had to walk up to bar from our table for first round. Beer selection was passable, but not phenomenal and without a large number of local brews, something I look for. My biggest issue was that this was yet another bar that thinks an Irish name, some Celtic font, and Triquetras on the signage make it an Irish pub. Nope. Give me some Irish ambiance, and we'll talk.

  • Jason W.

Cool place with great live music, but WORST bartenders in town. Two ladies taking care of the patrons, one totally ignores the men and has the rudest demeanor. Needless to say we're not returning. Get new staff.

  • Ryan R.

After the recent equipment improvements with the stage (ie speakers) and with a sound guy who can work with the gear and artists properly, the venue has never been more enjoyable. Saw some great friends, good music, people dancing, and the bar tenders were friendly. Cheers

Yep, yep, yep. I've been to Conor Byrne a few times and have always had a blast. Great place to go if you have a hankering for some live music and some great people watching. My sweetie and I popped in on a Saturday night and had the great time we knew we would have. My biggest gripe is that I wish they would check the line on their tonic water... I'm a hardcore Vodka tonic drinker whenever I go to my favorite pubs. It is my go to drink when I'm not in the mood for a delicious beer.. and I swear their tonic tastes like Sprite. Which was icky as I hate drinking any type of too sweet drinkl! But, Conor Byrne is such a cool place and such a deliciously divey place with great beer on tap and great live bands, you let stuff like that slide. And it is pretty cool that you can buy little bowls of peanuts and chips for $1! Perfect when you need a little something salty to snack on to tide you over until you get to put some food in your tummy! Conor Byrne is simply an awesome place, I enjoy it the most because it always has such a cool mix of people that wander in to enjoy the music and this cool pub always reminds me of why I love Seattle and the Ballard neighborhood, the diversity rocks! Look around Conor Byrne and you will see twentysomethings-fortysomethings, hipsters, hopsters, blue collarers, white-collareres, white people, brown people, pink people, red people and yellow people mixing, mingling, drinking and bobbing their heads to the music and everyone is having a damn good time! Cool pub... great drinks, great live music from local bands, and overall great place to hangout on a Saturday night! Go check it out!!!

I knew I had to be at an Irish pub for St. Patrick's Day and Conor Byrne was the spot. My boyfriend really likes this place, so we ate the $10/person cover to get in. The place was packed, but not overly so. By the time we got inside, it was standing room only, but there was plenty of space for us to stand and chat. We spent the evening sipping on some good, solid cider. I'm usually not much for hard cider, but even I was impressed. The inside is pretty welcoming and the layout and lighting are both nice. The bartenders are quite friendly, which is a welcome change from some of the other bars in Ballard. The music was a bit lame that night, but it didn't put too much of a damper on our mood! I will definitely be back to this place!

  • Dusan S.

All of my visits to Conor Byrne have been for shows. It's a pretty cool bar and a good venue for a small band with a local following to have their show at. Many of my friends have played here. The staff is very friendly. The drinks can add up, I feel like it's a bit too expensive for the divey bar that it is.

  • Erin B.

I am a bit prejudiced against Irish bars as they tend to be twice the price for a snarky atmosphere. Not so with Conor Byrnes though! Having passed this place a billion times, we finally noticed it was there when a friend of ours played a show here. Rainer $2.50? Now there is drinking on the cheap. not to mention the requisite imports and good selection of micros. Happy Hour looks quite enticing from 4-7pm (all day Monday) with micros at $2.50, Guinness & well drinks $4, & Sandwiches 1/2 off. Yum. What we were here for was the live music. They have bands here quite often and a stage set in the back corner gave a platform for a series of great bands up on stage. Shout out to Vince Mtz & the Great Blue Yonder- awesome! All in all, a great venue for chattin with friends, drinking some brew, AND listening to awesome bands.

Ah Conor Byrne. You are a Ballard staple. And you pour a great bloody mary! We'd been to Conor Byrne a few times for shows and unless you get there super early to get seats, you're kind of screwed. Otherwise, the staff is always really friendly, the drinks aren't too spendy - it's your run of the mill Irish bar, complete w/ really really drunk guys.

  • Nikki B.

I really like this spot. I have been here a few times and always get good service. They have nice happy hour pricing and a really nice staff. They seem to have a lot of live music and its usually just local seattle bands but they seem to be pretty good locals. You should definitely stop in if you are in Ballard.

Word is you'll find some amazing bands playing at Conor Byrne's, and I'm looking forward to catching some music there soon. For now, I love their monthly Brewers' Night, held the first Monday of each month. Last month was the inauguration, and you can read more about it here in this artice from the Ballard Blog: myballard.com/2011/01/03… In January I got to sample a few beers from the Fremont Brewing company, and it sounds like they are featuring Two Beers for February on the 7th. At $2.50 a pint for microbrews ALL NIGHT on Mondays, this pub has one of the best deals going in Ballard.

WORST experience there....so bad that I went to the trouble to open an account on yelp just to warn you of this place. Ick. A few friends and I walked in on a Wednesday night, just looking for a place to have a drink and celebrate. We soon learned that it was comedy night, and I was hopeful to hear some funny stuff. In the end it was just a bunch of drunk people who weren't really that funny at all. All the "comedians" kept returning back to the same joke of no one watching or caring... And proceeded to become more and more desperate for attention. Finally the fourth of fifth "comedians" up there played a game called "lets describe all the ladies in the bar". And started to describe our table. Started out slightly funny, didn't really go anywhere. Upset that he had still not gained any laughs, he said he would play a new game describing one lady in the bar but we would have to guess who they were... And he said something like, "flat chested, big nosed, too good for us, etc...". Are you kidding me? We just walked in, bought a Guinness and sat down and were talking.. I'm all up for getting made fun of ....when its funny and actually a joke. This guy got so desperate for attention he was flat out just taunting and insulting a group of ladies. I'm usually one to take a joke, but I was tempted to call this harassment at one point. Geez. 2 stars because they have a cool vibe otherwise. And I want to say they might have good nights other than Wednesday. I won't be going back to find out.

Great spot in Ballard. By far our favorite of all of the Irish/British type pubs in this area. Really great service and great drinks. We had already eaten so can't comment on the food. Would absolutely return here next time we are in the neighborhood.

When my band was booked to play here, I thought, "Oh, just another Irish pub". However, Conor Byrne turned out to be far better than any other Irish pub I've been to in Seattle. The atmosphere here is probably the best part about this place. On a busy Saturday night, the crowd was cheerful and friendly. Everyone seemed like they were just out to have a good time with their friends...no sleaze or pretentiousness or anything like that. Perhaps this was because the crowd was a bit older than the Cap Hill bars I find myself frequenting. I'd say most people at Conor Byrne were in their late 20's or 30's. The expansive dark wood bar is the centerpiece of the establishment and gives the pub a beautiful classic look. I love the mirrors behind the bar. In many bars, mirrors can look cheesy and cliche, but Conor Byrne pulls it off well. The bartenders are great! All the staff members I talked to were extremely personable and gave me great recommendations for food and drink. I am not sure about the food situation here. A co-worker told me that they have good sandwiches, but when I asked one of the bartenders about food he said their kitchen wasn't open yet and advised me to go next door to Lock & Keel to get take-out sandwiches. This was around 9pm...so if the kitchen isn't open at 9pm, when *is* it open? Forget about the food, though. That's not why you're here. (Else the kitchen would be open more, right?) Let's talk about the important stuff. Conor Byrne is definitely an awesome place for live music! The stage is elevated and quite large (for a bar). There's a great honky-tonk piano and generous space in front of the stage for dancing. Cover is also very reasonable. When my band performed, we were on a bill with two other groups. Cover for the evening was $7 - excellent for 3+ hours of music! The two bands we played with really brought the house down, especially the headlining act! Everyone was cheering and dancing. The music was very much the focus of the evening. You could tell that most of the people were there specifically for the music. This is great for the musicians and captive audience, but might not be so great if you're looking for a quiet place to gossip with your BFF or whisper with your honey. Just be sure to remember that on Saturday nights, Conor Byrne is all about the live music.

I've been wanting to come here for a while now and finally made it out after dinner at Bastille a couple weekends ago. We happened to be out on the night of the Ballard Jazz Walk. At around 10PM, the bar was already packed and most seats were already taken. We found a little space standing at the bar and hung out there for a couple of the jazz band's songs. While it was really crowded here, it was a great intimate venue for jazz. The bartenders were very attentive and they had some great beers on tap (Hale's, Fremont Brewing, etc.). I'll definitely be back here again!

If you want to dance to some good ol' country like The Swearengens and The Ganges River Band, you will love this place.

Came here for happy hour and returned later in the evening to listen to the bands. Great happy hour special for pint microbrews with an ok selection. Bartender, Brian, was really fun and personable. He gave us some great recommendations for restaurants for dinner as their menu is pretty limited. The bands later in the evening were great. Would definitely come back.

Saturday night Karaoke minus the Karaoke machine & monitor. Pick a song book out of the bin and the resident piano man will provide the music. Bartenders were friendly even though they were busy busy. Oh and... if you are looking for a place to hang out after your wedding we saw an entire wedding party come through the door. Could be an Irish thing though.

Seems more like one of the forgotten bars along Ballard and I can't remember the reason why. It's actually pretty nice. I liked the brick interior and it's a little bit bigger than you expect from the outside. You've got a small space in back where the stage is which seems like it would be great for live music. The stage isn't much off ground level and you could almost reach out and touch the performers. Or easily pelt them with produce, such as with a Crosby Egyptian. Which I recently learned is a type of beet. One downside is that they don't serve grub, but do allow you to bring in other food. Sadly I learned this fact after I had contemplated eating the fliers off the walls most of the evening. Other than the PBR cans, another highlight is that they serve Great Lakes ($4) on tap here! But I was here for trivia, which was pretty good. They do a wide variety of categories and have a bonus round which seems to be random: this week the bonus was a fashion show (eh, sort of). All in all a good time. By most scoring systems our team did not win (for example, the most correct answers), but that really doesn't take into account the concept of trivia momentum. You see, we were doing better in the later rounds of the game and clearly had momentum on our side. The way I look at it, if the game had gone on much longer we certainly would have won. The other teams should consider themselves lucky that we ran out of time.......

Wednesday night at Conor Byrne = Brainiac Beatdown Trivia! It was tricky competing against the regular teams. Their smug we-won't-even-smile-when-we-win expressions told me they had been there a time or two. Or nine thousand. Well I was perfectly happy with my third-to-last place, thank you. You can take your team hats and do a jig for all I care. ANYway, this was one of the best trivia nights I've been to, and not just because I knew one of the awesome Trivia Masters. It wasn't crowded, it wasn't loud, and heckling was encouraged. The bar itself is also great. They don't have food, but allow you to bring in food from outside. Dante's Inferno Dogs, anyone? Throw in $2.50 PBR's and the Mariner's game on in the background, and you've got yourself a fine evening ahead of you.

Was on vacation in Seattle visiting a friend. She took me here knowing that I love indie music and cute boys. We also went beer tasting in the neighborhood at a couple of the breweries. :) It was a perfect day and night. It was open mic nights on, we met some friendly people in a local band, and were lucky to see The Head and The Heart perform! Great Greyhounds too.

On my arrival to Conor Byrne, I had been to three other bars that same night...could you say I was on a bit of a bar crawl? This bar even through the haze of the earlier drinking was still a hit, I could say that it's a great Irish bar. I loved the the setup in the back with the stage. There was tons of seating, both bar stools and tables. This particular night has some amazing live music! As I looked at the lineup, it seemed like there is plenty more good music to come! There were a ton of great beers on tap, as well as, your good ole cheap beers like Pabst Blue Ribbon. The bartenders were friendly (so tip them appropriately.) This bar definitely gets packed so try to get there on the earlier side. You might just be able to snag a seat right up close! So get down to Conor Byrne Pub and step on the good foot and do the bad thing!!

$7 cover charge on a Thursday night seemed steep. The staff is friendly, but you'd think they're rude or indifferent, which is not the case. Every once in a while they'll check up on you. Also it seemed the regulars weren't treated any differently either. The live music is nice. The beer selection is great, but the beers on tap seemed rather flat to me. Ask for samples cuz some are either too flat, too watered down, or just plainly nasty. But it has charm I guess. I'd come back again if I'm in the area.

We stopped in for a few on a pub crawl through Ballard last week. I don't remember too much, except that it was one of the better places we stopped. Good casual vibe in here - busy, but not too busy. The best thing about this area is hopping from pub to pub all night long!

Ballard has so many great bars to offer--King's, Hazelwood, People's Pub, Hattie's Hat, etc. But Conor Bryne is definitely my favorite. I've been a handful of times, and each time was great. Once a year they have a TOM WAITS tribute night. Several weeks ago I went and it was FANTASTIC. This place got packed, and there was great music being played all night. Good drinks. The bartender served me up an "Irish Root beer" the other night, which consists of whiskey, coke, and a hint of Guinness, a nice spin on the average whiskey and coke. Their signature "Ginger Lemonade" is very good, and a Hot Tottie is always nice on a cold Seattle night. Great ambiance--kind of reminds me of a place you'd see Tom Waits himself hanging out at. Will most likely be coming here again in the not too distant future.

its one of those irish-type pubs i guess...hard to know since i've never been to ireland beer dont drink it so idk music i'm a bit tired of the hipster "kings of leon"-looking, mumford n sons sounding scene people plaid...ugh...get a new look, please it was ok i guess

Went here whilst visiting Seattle for the first time with my Fiance'. It was fantastic! I love the ambiance of the brick walls, the rich carved wood of the bar and the shelves and the warmly lit corner stage. There was a old time band kind of bluegrass sounding with a washboard and everything. We absolutely adored the bartenders. One created a shot for me that was very tasty with fresh mint and the other gave us a list of local parks and hiking trail areas. Reasonable prices, what more can you ask for?

Pubs aren't my usual slice of pie but some friends were playing a show here, which was awesome, and I got to check this one out. This here pub is a real nice space. mmhhmmm. Music was awesome They have ruebens & grilled cheese, two of the only four sandwiches I eat! And my new I-only-drink-greyhounds kick that I'm on was seriously satisfied with fresh squeezed- in front of my face- grapefruit....mmmmm tasty! And I have a soft spot in my heart for my home town of Ballard :) OK, you get all five stars!

I went here the other night during the Ballard Jazz Walk. It was standing room only, but I was lucky enough to have a seat and enjoyed the show with some great friends. The small stage is set in the corner, making the performances nice and intimate. Overall, it's a great spot to see a show and have a pint or two with some friends.

Simple Equation= ZERO cover (I'm friends with the door guy) MINUS 3 Guinness and a Magners over ice PLUS 1 hot team of Hurlers- think 'Rugby/ La crosse' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hu… PLUS 1 for Reminiscing with your old HS friend you just happen to run into.. = ... -1? Sorry.. my head hurts a little today. WHATEVER. Who cares!??! Oh, and the bartender rang the bell halfway through the night for no reason at all.. DRINKS on him! Seeeriously.. I love Connor Byrne. THE END.

This place really knows customer service! I was recently in Ballard for a friend's birthday pub crawl, and this was hands down the best place we stopped (no thank you King's Hardware with your faint smell of vomit...). The staff let us in for no cover because of our pub crawl, threw in 2 extra drinks on top of our 12-drink order, and whipped up a delicious shot on the house for our birthday boy and his wife. The band playing was great, and the drinks were amazing - fresh muddled ginger! Would have been worth the Saturday night cover if we were going to stay in one place and enjoy the other bands. Looking forward to visiting again!

This bar has a great, welcoming atmosphere for people from all walks of life. Sometimes it's packed and rockin, sometimes it's really quiet - both can be perfect depending on your mood. The sandwiches are a nice addition if you are feeling munchy, and the bartenders have always been willing to give suggestions of interesting drinks, or even make special margaritas from fresh berries carried in from the farmers' market just up the street. The planned renovation sounds like a great way to make a nice but kind of worn interior into a really beautiful, new-feeling, attractive place that even more people will enjoy - while still in keeping with the historical code of cute Ballard Avenue. The trivia night does have some regulars who clean up (smarty pants...) but the 3-4 revolving trivia hosts seem to do a great job of keeping it all fair, interesting, and fun for everyone who comes out for it. I still hope to win someday. :) In short, I love this bar!

Dear Conor Byrne, I love you. In fact, Conor Byrne: if you weren't a neighborhood institution, I'd marry you. I love you for your total unpretentiousness. I love you for your lovely staffers. I love you for the other patrons, who also love you. I love knowing that I don't have to painstakingly strategize my night in Ballard, that I can always come to you and hear great live music, at a wee nominal cover (buying tix in advance is so annoying). Sometimes I even take your hula hoop for a twirl, or play cards with friends over beer. It doesn't matter. It's always a good time. Mostly, I love knowing that even though you've changed hands, that you are still a gem of a neighborhood pub. Yes, this is true love...and I hope it's 4-ever. xoxo, Shannon

It's pretty low key, it's local and the liquor shelf looks really cool, oh and the bartender was really friendly. I haven't been for a little while but I am planning on making a return trip soon. And the music and entertainment during the week is a nice addition to the bar, but it can be a bit loud if you're trying to go to a quiet bar for the evening.

Nice little pub (beer and wine). Service has always been good. Great place for local music....bluegrass, alt-country, etc... My friend's band used to play here a lot when they first started out. Always enjoyed the bar.

This Bartender rocked - and he was very good looking! He actually knew what was in my favorite drink - he is like the 2nd bartender in this state that actually knew how to make it! Gotta love that! The drinks were good and reasonably priced - I will definitely have to go here again.

  • Donald C.

Fine place for live music, but the bartenders have to look up at the board to figure out the recipes for their drinks. Worst Dark 'n Stormy I have ever had. Rum and soda basically. Stick to beer.

Love the happy hour, 2.50 micro brews! It gets a little intense during the live shows, but it's always fun. The staff is great; they usually remember the regulars. Good atmosphere and usually good background music.

I started going to Conor Byrne when a friend invited me to see her Irish step dance group. I continued to go back because it is the least pretentious bar in Ballard. They only serve beer and wine, they always have a great music lineup during the week and weekend, and the staff have always been friendly.

Good Irish neighborhood joint in Ballard. If you don't feel like driving to Pike Place and dealing with parking for Kell's, this place is a good fill-in.

I loved this place - they have free warmed peanuts for you to snack on with your drinks, on Fridays (the day I went) they have some awesome local music with a reasonal cover (I think it was 8?), and just generally I enjoyed the atmosphere. Would suggest this to anyone who likes a good pub:)

My fiance and I were in town for a couple nights and used Yelp to help us find a place or two. "Irish", "Live Music", and "Bar" were the three items we used for a search. We weren't disappointed. Big, high ceilings, a few open seats at the bar, plenty of great beers on tap that we hadn't tried before and a great band playing on stage. The crowd was a lot of fun. There were groups over with the band, at the bar, and scattered at tables throughout the joint. Friendly bar-staff (2 ladies). Mostly quick with your order. All in all, exactly what we were looking for! Had a great time, would go there again! Can't use an AmEx.

Great live music, great drinks and cute bartenders... what more do you need? During the day, it's a great place to chill out with a book or play games. The best Guinness in town! Happy hour prices are awesome. The trivia night is even more awesome.

I just love this place. I never leave disappointed. The atmosphere, bands, booze, and pals I divulge myself in every time I go makes me smile days later. Never had a bad time here, and hey, it's a little piece of history, and I adore that too...

This recently renovated spot is the perfect place to visit if you're feeling a little more classy than dive-y but a little more casual than a suit and tie. The bartender was helpful and conversational about his scotch selection and they had a cider on tap, though not the best kind I've had. With newly installed front windows that gaze out onto Bellevue Ave and a darkish, roomy interior, this is a great place to start your night.

well in response to Johnny's H.'s comment I'd have the exact same reaction and rating. However, personally I've had nothing but great times at this bar. It's typically got decent live music and a cool vibe. I kind of wish they had an open mic these days but no worries. The bar layout is so typical to the Ballard style of watering holes but somehow they made room for music in the back. Let me just say you did the right thing! Close to the Tractor Tavern but this place provides a much chiller atmosphere. Sometimes that's better.

Cozy light-Irish themed bar with two separate experiences: Happy Hour and later evenings featuring live music. We dropped in for happy hour, which offers $2.50 microbrew pints (tough to beat) among an eclectic mix of locals providing some decent people watching, all set within a comfortable relaxed vibe. This seems to be the norm for the 5PM-7PM hour... but later, there's generally some fun music with cover only on Friday and Saturday. Great to see a place with happy hour till 7PM... who can really get off work and out before 6?

Went during happy hour, ridiculously cheap. 4 of us ate and drank for under $20.

Yeah, you heard me. One star. Why is this? Well, on my second visit to this fine establishment, I had a run-in with a drunk. It was my first such experience in 2 years in Seattle, and left a rather bitter taste in my mouth. I can't really fault the establishment for this itself, but what I really didn't like is after it happend, the old drunk dude who basically had a major problem with people under the age of 30 being out in Ballard on a Tuesday night socialized with the bartender AND waitress for a good ten minutes before leaving, thus making our table completely unattended (and no we weren't drunk or even buzzed). They continued to ignore us until we finally closed out and left. It's a nice place and all, but when you come in to a bar on a slow night, pay a voluntary cover, order a round of drinks, then find out the attention of a drunk is more important than your night out, how can you possibly give it a favorable review?

This is a lovely, friendly local bar. The bartenders are great and the overall vibe of the place is very welcoming. This truly is one of the gems of Ballard Avenue. Even on the nights they have bands here you don't have to worry about having to shout or not being able to hear the person next to you. The best part? They make THE BEST Irish coffee in town.

Great small venue in a growing area of gentrified Ballard. They can poor a decent black and tan and make one heck of a fresh sqeezed greyhound. For the future I hope to catch it on an acoustic night and might have to grow a beard to fit in. This place will last with the right management and a renovation to the bathroom (reply the scene from Trainspotting).

I walked in to rockabilly heaven. Tattooed chicks with bangs, greaser dudes with horn-rimmed glasses, and a whole lotta shakin goin on. This place was hoppin the friday after Elvis/David Bowie berfday. Vince Mirra the 17 yo johnny cash incarnate threw down a couple smokin tracks and the place lit up like the griswold family christmas display. Leon Berman-- the proctologist of rock and roll sang a tune as well. I loved the scene. There was standing room only, but fortunately my friends a had a spot on lock down before we arrived. I'm not sure what it's like on other nights, but I'd love to go back.

I like places that don't serve liquor. Why? Because it deters the people who like to order buttery-nipples and cosmos and attracts the people who like to avoid puking in the bathroom or wet tee-shirt contests (whatever, you get my drift) ... this makes for a relaxed environment, conducive to conversation. They have their share of nights with live music and trivia, but even with these events the place is calm. I love how they have one amazing bartender who is always on top of things even though she can barely see over the counter. Ten thumbs up!

I knew nothing about this place before walking into it waiting for a concert at the Tractor to start. When we walked in, we heard live Irish music, only to see that there was at least 25 musicians in a circle playing traditional Irish music with dancers as well. We felt really lucky to stumble across this and enjoy a Smithwick. Would defiantly go back to see what else it might have in store for us.

good live music, good Guiness on tap and rarely a cover charge. i have only been here a couple of times, but have never tried the food or had a bad experience. i view it as a good bar to go to when you are meeting friends out before doing some bar-hopping. centrally located, it's hard to miss this place. the bartenders are friendly and the vibe is very chill here.

NIce place to relax, but bad if your sleepy. The lighting and music here could put you to sleep real easy. I wouldnt end my night here but it would be a nice place to start for some music and beer.

The Prodigal Son has not returned yet. I used to frequent this pub, mostly on Monday's for the bluegrass music. Though I think it was folk music when I went. Is there a difference? Anyway the place is sweet very cozy and great place for hanging with friends and having a pint.

I used to live above this place ages ago. Conor Byrne is where I acquired my taste for Guinness, morally ambiguous men and disdain for Irish music. Drop in, have a seat at the bar and ask Conor to tell you all about it. Way more fun than Kell's.

Conor Byrne...my new favorite pub. When the Irish hang out at Conors, you know you just found the best Irish pub in town. I happend onto the classic pub by chance...actually we got the boot at a place down the street, and this just so happened to be walking distance. Talking with a true Irish lassie from Dublin, listening to traditional live Irish Folk music and drinking great Guinness...what more can a pub offer. Great environment, great service, great music, great great great. Cheers to Conor Byrne!

This is the place to be every other Wednesday night. I come here for the trivia, and even though my team always loses (and loses hard) it's still enjoyable.

Stopped in here for a drink after work and never wanted to leave. I usually relate more to the Asian half of me, but all I wanted to do all night was point out to everyone that I'm also half Irish! My grampa would have loved this place. Great music, perfect Guinness, friendly people... what else do you need?

Authentic, totally authentic. I thought it was gonna be another fakeout wannabe irish pub, but it turns out "WOW, OMG.. real Irish people?". So I guess this place has something going for it. The beer here is pretty good, and I don't even like beer!

This place is warm and welcoming, from the lighting to the bartenders, to the patrons and the musicians on the small, intimate stage. The decor is really nice, the beer is good, and the shows are excellent. (I saw the British/Irish band Equation here -- excellent sound, fantastic music.)
