Good food and good service. The rice is usually overcooked. I like the Coconut Milk soup, soooooooo yummy. Chicken Satay is bomb too.

Like others have said, the service can be really hit or miss depending on who you get. I think the same applies for the food. It's a good amount of food for the money, but can often be pretty plain (both in terms of spices, and in terms of skimping on veggies/meat). I live right around the corner and honestly no longer go here, as there are better places almost as close.

I am so lucky to have found this gem. Chada is walking distance from my home and is just as comfortable to eat in and take away. The owners are always so friendly and it's always a good feeling when someone remembers your order. My roommates and I's go to's are their Pad Kee Mow, Crispy Garlic Chicken (crispy, garlicky, salty, and sweet goodness), their Yom Kai Gai Soup, and fish cakes.

The first time we came here few years ago we were served by this older gentlemen who was really friendly. Since then I sometimes just got take out. We had dinner there today, and served by the older lady who literally... Really short with us and unfriendly, never smiled throughout our meal... She would be friendly to the customers she knows though who came just got take out... Does she not like it when customer dine in? I literally wrote "smile a bit" on our receipt. I saw now on yelp that few other customers also had the same experience with that lady... Seriously, you can have great food (our food was just ok today), but if you have bad attitude, customer won't come back!

Chada Thai is the kind of place you want in your neighborhood. Excellent food at a reasonable price with the option of eating in or take-out. As others have said, the Crispy Garlic Chicken is a must order. It borders on addictive as I always eat too much of it. The Pad Thai is the real thing, not that catsup based stuff that some places want to feed you. The Vegetable Fresh Rolls are a bit bland but you get 3 of them the size of a toddler's calf for 6 bucks and the dipping sauce is spicy and delicious. I have always found the staff polite. If you walk in with a smile you will get the same back!

Always excellent Thai food. Great lunch specials are prepared quickly. Best Thai Iced Tea around. I highly recommend this place.

My favorite neighborhood Thai place. First off, the food is delicious. I have tried everything on the menu and it is all good. My favorites are the beef pad see ew, the crispy garlic chicken, and my wife likes the cashew chicken, and pineapple fried rice. It gets busy so I like to order take out. And the heat star system is very hot. I can handle heat, but the 3 star humbled me. The owners/staff treat me like family. This place is great! Eat here!

We ate here awhile ago and I was disappointed and didn't plan to go back. The food was just eh. Unfortunately, today we ended up calling in another to go order because Yum Yum Thai isn't open on Sundays. I figured Chada is close by so we could give them another try. It's interesting people think this place is reasonably priced - I just paid $40 for two swimming rama with noodles and a soup. What? On top of that, whenever you call the person who answers seems annoyed that you're calling. The Tom Kha Gai was tasty and the portions are large, so there's that, but I won't be ordering from here again.

Updating this review to let you know that I tried the pineapple fried rice. Best I've ever had.

This restaurant has wonderful Thai food at great prices, I love it here. Its great to see the same family members working there every time i go. The food is always consistent, I've been more than 15 times over the past year and the dishes are ALWAYS rock solid and fresh. Great for taking out and eating at home! The best part is they are 100% locally owned and operated. Big thumbs up to Chada Thai! Try the Pad See Ew and the Crispy Garlic Chicken. Yum.

Honestly, i was surprised their food was as good as it was. Since its located right next to a dry cleaning facility and 7/11, i thought their food would be 0-2 stars...but nope! It was decent. Takeout was quick too. Lady over the counter has that typical asian style briskness, which is fine with me. They accept credit cards, which is always appreciated. Solid 4 stars

Let me start off by saying... this is one of my favorite Thai places in Seattle. I've gotten my food togo from this place several times, but I've NEVER experienced bad customer service. From reading the other reviewers' notes, I guess I'm lucky, or maybe they went on a bad day? Here is what I've tried here (apologies for any misspellings!): Larb Gai: Love it, but I wish it came with more chicken. Nice flavor. Pad See-ew: Nothing too special. It's delicious, but I prefer the pad kee mao. Pad Kee-mao: My favorite! Perfect amount of sweetness and a decent amount of food. Pad thai: it's good. nothing too unique. Crispy garlic chicken: As everyone said, it's pretty damn good. The only thing I would warn folks about this dish is that the flavor/crispiness is a bit overwhelming for one person. I would recommend that this dish be shared. Also, be careful when you order any dishes here with spice. The range here is definitely Thai spicy and not American spicy. I typically can handle spicy food, but man, anything above level 2 here makes me sweat.

Best thing about this place is that it's been around forever & has never disappointed me! I grew up on Greenwood so I've pretty much tried every restaurant on it! Can never go wrong with the Pad See Ew, spring rolls, Phad Thai. The signature crispy garlic chicken is my fave! The crunch, the flavor, you can't beat it! Delicious! I just love their sweet family! From mama bear to her son or daughter ringing me up they are awesome & so accommodating!

We ate here for the first time last week and I'd rate the food as first rate. I don't need to go into what we ordered, but the menu has most of the usual Thai items. We were one of two tables occupied that night, but it seems as if they do a pretty good carry out business. Service was OK. One person was working the phone, filling takeout orders, and waiting tables, so she was pretty busy. We sometimes had to wait a long time for attention. The room is pretty basic, just a storefront in a strip mall. Here's the thing about this place: it is really expensive! I moved here from Chicago last year, and I have noticed that restaurant prices are quite a bit higher here. That being said, this place was REALLY expensive for what it is. I mean, $2.75 for a Thai ice coffee is ridiculous. So: this place is pretty good for a neighborhood Thai place, so give it a try if you live around there. But do bring a big credit card or a bundle of money, because you'll need it.

Worst service ever! The food is above average but the lady is extremely rude. I've come here several times before and I only came for the food. Today my girlfriend came to the counter to pay and she bluntly asked for tip. I will never come back to this place. I will never recommend this place for anybody.

I stopped in today to get some lunch to go. It was the first time so I ordered #42 Phad Basil, they put in a flat flimsy carton. Being careful carrying it and keeping it level arrived home, put it on the corner and took out the box and all the sauce had leaked out all into to bottom of the bag, no sauce left in the carton. What a huge disappointment :(( I call back to let the Owner know, but she didn't seem to give a rats behind, she was rude and couldn't have cared less. So there you have it!! Won't be going there ever again!!

This was the first Thai restaurant I ate at in 1990, good family run business, decent food. However recently I ordered Pad Thai and they put caramelized onions in it, I've never had Phad Thai with caramelized onions, they took over the flavor completely. had to throw away a $12 meal.

Great Thai food. Loved the garlic fried chicken and the red curry.

  • Syde K.

I think this place is officially my favorite. They have the best Pineapple fried rice I have tried and trust me I have experimented in other places (mainly in downtown Seattle) and have been disappointed. They are also quick at serving your food!! The only thing is, parking. It is next to 7/11, Dominos, teriyaki restaurant, a hair salon and with that parking is limited mid day and evenings.

  • Wing M.

There are rave reviews about the crispy garlic chicken, but I find the other items are good too. My friends and I ordered take out, so I was able to try a few of the dishes. The fried rice and pad thai are awesome. They're one of the best I've had. The only thing that really stands out as a negative is the restaurant itself. There are plenty comments already about the service. I find the decor and cleanliness to be a real issue. Customer service seemed okay to me.

Good stuff Great Food. Really Great. Bad stuff. The night I was there it was bad service. Not gonna kill ya bad, but bad. Ordered two entree's and an appetizer. Got one entree. The people who came in after us got all their food, then our appetizer and remaining entree came out. This wasn't a five minute delay, this was about 15. Ain't gonna kill ya but it does take the polish off the place. Nice place for takeout or if you're there alone, but I'd be leery of taking a hot date there.

  • Elizabeth R.

This is my go to take out Thai spot. Their phad thai is incredible, not the ketchup based sauce you get some places. Their curries are delicious, my favorite is massamun curry. The crispy garlic chicken is seriously amazing! Their fried spring rolls are teeny tiny and not overly crispy, but still tasty if bite size is ok with you. I can't say how the sit down service is as we always take it home, but we've never had any issues with them being rude. And our order is always ready in 15-20 minutes!

  • Kyle W.

Been here many times since it's close, but I'm finally done. The taste and hotness are both very inconsistent. Not the worst place for sure, but there are so many Thai places in Seattle that are far better and more consistent.

  • Christina B.

Perfect for a Thai fix! Been coming here for a long time. The food is excellent. Like it so much more than the show pony joints. Yes - hot, so stick with one star to begin with. Portions are large for noodle dishes (these are the only ones that go for so cannot vouch for all - except the killer garlic chicken!). Yes - the lady can be perceived as annoyed at times, reminiscent of a Seinfeld episode, but I think she is killer maverick. Try running your own business in a foreign culture of passive/aggressive hipsters. She has a heart of of 24 karat gold. Always remembers what beer my friend likes, & my liking chop sticks. Once left my jacket here and it was kept it for two months - after only my second time there. Yes - it is a bare quiet sort of place - the walls are bright with color, and standard diner interior. Have not been to Thailand, but thinking this probably is the look for working joes there. At least no phony awful music on loop! *You want the quality to be in the food, not the aesthetics/water features/linen menus. Hole in the wall often means better food - if you travel to Europe you will recognize this. The glitz goes for customers who will pay higher prices for less quality food & not know or care better. Give me an original personality that does syrup fawn over customers - it is refreshing and real. Very sweet family running this place if you stop to see them - hard working people in a very hard business. Have not made it past these to try more, are so good: LOVE the coconut ice cream, bean dessert, any noodle dishes & the garlic chicken. Just go and try the great food -- and make her smile!

Great thai food, and I've tried a lot of thai food. I've had the pad see ew, garlic chicken, and phad thai but out of all three, I find myself going back to the pad see ew. Friendly owners, too, and they love talking about the Seahawks.

    (5)
  • Augie H.

Service ain't that great. But you get passed that cause they just have that great of foods. love their pad see ew with extra broccoli. It's a neighborhood spot that I'm lucky to have around!

  • Aleigha Y.

This place would have gotten another star if it weren't for the spring rolls. I read reviews on fresh spring rolls and I ended up with fried crispy rolls. I just didn't care for them because I was excited about my fresh spring rolls I didn't receive. The pineapple fried rice I ordered was good. Although the best thing I had was green curry. Fantastic! I had 2 star spice and for my pallet it was perfect not to hot not mild either. I did take out it was quick, really hot and fresh. Go this route for sure....I would not recommend eating there. Not a very big staff and it smells like fried food.

4 1/2 stars because of the amazing food. But service very slow/non-existent. Very few people in the restaurant and yet we never got a water refill and after 20-30min of waiting had to go up and ask for a box/bill. Can't wait to order take-out from here. Crispy garlic chicken is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

Last night was my first time ordering at Chada Thai. We ordered delivery and the order taker said it would take about an hour to get to my house (which is a little too long in my book). Anyway, the food arrived in about an hour AND A HALF. But that's not what really irked me. We ordered beef pad thai and beef pad see ew. For both orders the noodles were stuck together like they had been cooked quite some time ago and left alone. When i stuck my fork in the noodles the whole thing lifted up like a big block. The taste was also a bit weird to me. I've had a lot of pad thai and none of them have tasted like this. Not sure what the flavor is but it's weird to me. Maybe the food is better when you sit down. To me, however, the quality of food shouldn't be less just because we ordered delivery. At any rate, I probably will never order from Chada Thai again.

Yesterday was my 2nd time dining here. The food had delicious flavor. We ordered the fresh spring rolls and the plum sauce with crushed peanuts and bits of diced cucumber that came with them was very complimentary them. The hot and sour soup with vegetables had a nice gingery, lemon grassy hot and sour flavors that melded well together. My partner ordered the famous chicken that had a coconut curry drizzled on top . It had a nice sear that was full of flavor and very succulent. It was accompanied with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. The Thai iced tea is what I expect from a Thai iced tea, sweet and refreshing. The service was good. My verdict of this delicious joint- top notch.

GET THE CRISPY GARLIC CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm actually eating it as I write this review, and I don't feel like writing much cause I'd rather pay attention to my food cause its seriously that good)

The food here tastes decent because it's doused with MSG. If you don't mind then you'll love it. Customer service is horrid.

The restaurant serves awesome food. Crispy Garlic Chicken and the Pad Thai is one of the best I've ever tasted. Service is bad, since I usually come to the place like once a week, the lady who owns the place did not care for us, and when we have a party of 6 or more, she would tell us to move the tables by ourselves. The food is inconsistent,as I ordered a 3 star spicyness dish(3/5). It would come out much more spicy than a 5 star dish that i ordered the week before. I recommend this place for take outs but certainly not for occasional visits

I ate at Chada Thai last night and had a pretty good experience. I wasn't sure what to expect after reading many reviews of poor and rude service, but the woman who served us was nice enough. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. The only thing I would mention is, it was too quiet, no music playing in the background. Not a big deal though. Oh, and the other reviews were correct about how hot the food is. It's a 4 star scale and I like it fairly hot. I got 2 stars and it was almost too hot. More like a 3 or 4 in most Thai restaurants. Overall it was a good experience.

My fiance and I went in here with little context, all I knew was that I had a hankering for thai food. The food and service we recieved was phenomenal, especially considering that we arrived about half an hour before closing. their phad thai was the best I've had yet, and their cashew shrimp is to die for, according to my fiance :) we'll certainly make this a regular go-to for a sit-down meal.

This place is awesome. The review about the rude lady that spilled her to go order in the bag is not the business fault so if your read this, flag it or learn how to carry to go orders lol. I have been eating here for 5 years and I have to say the food is some of the best authentic Thai food in Seattle. I am a huge food critic too and I love the food here. some people may not understand the culture in reserved conversation because the owner is not a salesman but she knows good food and knows how to make it perfect, EVERY TIME. When I come to this place she always remembers what I like to order. This is a nice casual place for a date, lunch, dinner, or to go orders. The prices are excellent for top quality fresh ingredients! I am not sure if everything is organic but I'm willing to bet the owners try to buy organic vegetables because they really care about quality, and the taste is amazing!!! Today I came late as they were closing and she asked her employee to let me order really fast, because she cares about her customers, and remembered me and my favorite dish. The owner is not very personable, kind of quiet, but if you get to know her, you will find out that her reviews mean a lot to her because she has a good heart, and really wants all her customers to be 100% happy. I was surprised she let me order my meal at closing time and remembering what I always order makes me feel like an important customer. I have brought nearly all my friends and family to this place at least a few times. Now that I moved 30 minutes away, I still come here anytime I'm wanting the best Thai food in Seattle. I usually get the cashew veggie which I am not even sure if it's on the menu but she always remembers my order. This is obviously a small family business and the owners son is a very polite young man. The rice is always perfect texture and taste excellent. All my friends and family love this place every chance we can get to come here. I used to eat here every other day until I moved. A lot of people love this place. I give it a 5 star and you should too!!!!!!

Amazing Thai food! The Crispy Garlic Chicken with deep fried Thai basil is so delicious and addicting. The Pad Thai is flavorful, not overly wet and does NOT use ketchup! We've been getting take out from here for over a year and the food is consistent, fast, generously portioned and modestly priced. Thank you Chada for being such a wonderful neighborhood spot!

Delicious, great service, family atmosphere. Had the crispy garlic chicken which is absolutely yummy. Everyone else ate a ton of mine! We also got the yellow curry and panang curry - both with white rice. Both were very good. We also got fresh spring rolls before our meal w a yummy plum sauce. Sitting down, ordering, and eating leisurely and we were out of there in about an hour and fifteen minutes for three people. Very impressive. I would definitely come back!

Our waitress was initially unpleasant and the service got worse from there. She seemed irritable while we were ordering and acted put out when we ordered rice after our food arrived. We ordered pad thai with 2 stars. When it arrived it was very spicy. Much more so than I have ever had anywhere else and my mouth was burning. We brought this to the attention of the server. She said we were expecting "American 2 stars" and she served us "thai 2 stars." Honestly, I don't think she realized how spicy it was. She continued to argue and blame us for not liking it. She refused to remake it with 0 stars. She offered more peanut sauce to make what we had more palatable. We did eat the chicken fried rice and tofu swimming rama. That food tasted good. We finished all but the inedible fire spiced pad thai. The waitress offered us a box for the pad tai, which we declined. In the end she charged us $5 for the pad tai, which is a little less than half off. In the end we were very displeased with the customer service and will not ever return.

Something off about this place. We were seated and waited on by a boy that was about 10 at the oldest. The atmosphere was cold and it felt like there were only people working in the back the whole time. There were several (like 4-6) tables that were unbussed for the duration of our meal; it did not feel sanitary. When asking for a chili sauce (standard at all Thai places) the lady told me I had already ordered it as hot as I could and I needed to go try it first. With the abundance of Thai places in the greater Seattle area, I would avoid this one.

  • E B.

I'd like to begin by saying thai food is one if my faves!!! Wow!!! Chada Thai does not kid around with their spiciness!!! I would suggest going one, or even two, stars lower than your normal at other Thai restaurants. That being said, Chada Thai is possibly my new favorite Thai place! I've only had their pad thai but it is THE best I've had in the north Seattle area. It is very flavorful and NOT KETCHUPPY! The price and portion can't be beat either!!! :9 I've never had a dish i didn't love: pad see ew, pad kee mao, all curries, ultimate fried rice, crispy garlic chicken, that iced tea.... I'm salivating as I type! To top it off, the family who runs it is wonderful! They are the friendliest! :)

    (5)
  • Cendy N.

Don't get me wrong. The food here is amazing! I love the pad Thai because it's not "ketchupy". But the customer service on the other hand is just horrible. The lady is extremely rude. I had ordered the lunch special and I asked for an extra plate because I don't like my food all mixed up. So she proceeded to get the plate and literally tossed my plate on the table and almost knocked down my water. Then she just rolled her eyes and walked away. I will from now on get takeout.

The food here is good, but they had some 9 year old kid take our orders, bring our food, and refill our waters. Labor laws? He did a pretty good job, though.

  • Elizabeth D.

Reading the other reviews, I'm not sure what to think about the perceived attitude about the main owner. She's always been friendly and warm to me, and knows my name when I order (Damn that phad kee mao and crispy garlic chicken! She knows us too well). Who cares that the 10-year old takes your order? He's adorable and polite. Mom and sister are always right there. Take-out is always ready in no less than 10 minutes if you're in need of a quick weeknight dinner.

Yes, order the crispy garlic chicken. Everyone else does, so you should too. During Snowpocalypse 2012, we were getting a bit of cabin fever and ventured out towards the tail end of the week. I had been wanting to try Chada Thai for a few months now and was excited to make the trek. The cold fresh air was a nice counter to the slushy, mushy, grey stuff we stamped through on the way over. We were the only ones eating there but while we were there (about 30-45mins), they were busy receiving take-out orders. We ordered a lunch special and their famous garlic chicken. The garlic chicken was sticky, crunchy, sweet and had pieces of fried basil leaves which was delightful to chew. I was also brought a side of rice (don't think I was charged for it, which is nice). The hub's lunch special had rama, pad thai, and rice. We both received soup to start. It was pretty nice. The vibe was chill since we were [still] the only ones there but it wasn't difficult to get water refills or the check. The portions were pretty large so we didn't make a visible dent in the garlic chicken but we assured them everything was tasty, we were just not that hungry and we had to go and buy a snow shovel. Heh. As leftovers the food was still yummy. I'm happy to know there is a take-out/eat-in Thai place nearby. Looking forward to trying their spicier options!

I have a lot of Thai choices around me both at home and at work, some great and some pretty bad. This isn't a bad choice, but the food was very much basic Thai fare and may as well have been from any number of other Thai places. There were extremely large piece of kaffir lime leaf in a curry, I normally can see it and pick it out but if you're not used to doing that you might end up with a mouth full of a flavor and texture you're not used to. I got a prawn curry once, and the prawns were totally dried out. I'll go back because they're geographically close to home, but don't expect anything out of the ordinary.

  • M B.

I get food here somewhat regularly, and I've come to learn that Chada Thai has good qualities and bad qualities. Perhaps most importantly, the food is good and ready promptly. Been to numerous Thai places around the city and the phad thai here is up there with the best of 'em. That being said, if you like to be greeted with warm and welcoming smiles when you dine and leave with the hope born from a cheerful dining experience... this is not the place. Yes, as other reviewers have said, service here can be surly. I'd say come for the food, but leave quickly with it; go with take-out.

I am a stickler for Thai food and this place is delicious. I read other reviews of service but mine was fine. I ordered lunch special at 2:45 (lunch ends at 3) and received no guild. I ordered Phad Thai, my Thai litmus test, and red curry. How spicy 1-4 I said 3 - I got the typical response (I'm a white girl) it's very spicy and I said that's fine. I have been to thailand and made Thai food and I get it! It was spicy, but not unbearable -- just right for me. I definitely went through a couple glasses of water. Anyhow, the Phad Thai was perfect, like the best street Phad Thai I've had. Huge portion for lunch too. the curry came in a small cup but i still couldn't finish that, and the rice was perfect, not too sticky. You can tell they use the traditional ingredients like kaffir leaves in their curry too. Delish. The lady was sweeping a lot but never tried to rush me out. She also was talking to some other customers about the noodles etc and seemed shy but helpful. This is better than any other Thai I've had in shoreline/Edmonds/greenwood and I will be back!

Omg. I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants and this is the best by far!!!! They know how to make it spicy! I usually order five stars but only 2 1/2 here! So good! Garlic fried chicken, ultimate fried rice, phad Thai, red curry chicken.... Everything is so good! You can't go wrong here!! You will never go anywhere else for Thai food once you try this place!

As an avid fan of Seattle's Thai food scene, this is among the best. I'm hesitant to give such a good review because I don't want to share this gem with the rest of you! ;) - large portions - VERY spicy (people say Thai Tom is spicy but I consider that mild compared to this place) - nice owners (family owned) - fantastic flavor - fairly priced The Crispy Chicken is un-freaking-believable (in small portions, share this dish). The Phad Thai is delicious, as is the Pad Kee Mao.

They have good fried rice, and garlic chicken.... Although it is annoying that the garlic chicken sauce always sticks on your teeth. Okay- service, not great.... Good restaurant to try if you live in shoreline.....

One of the most unassuming Thai restaurants you'll ever come across. This place is only a couple blocks from my house in a small strip of businesses that includes 7-11, Domino's, a terrible Teriyaki restaurant, and a dry cleaners. This place is a diamond in the rough. I cannot order food from this place without getting one of the two house specials, Crispy Garlic Chicken. This dish is phenominal! It's a giant portion of lightly tempura battered white meat chicken, tossed in this spicy/sweet garlic sauce with fried basil leaves and bell peppers mixed in. It's incredible. I have tried other dishes to compliment the Crispy Garlic Chicken, including cashew chicken (above average), their phad thai (average), panang curry (delicious), larb gai (mom loved it), and chicken satay (excellent peanut sauce). When ordering a spicy dish from this place, beware, they will hear a "3-star" request, but counter with a "4-star" delivery. Do not underestimate their heat levels! I love spicy dishes, but do not try and be a hero and order a 4-star here. I've only gotten food to-go here, but the place is always wide open. It's a family run business and at night they young son sits out in the restaurant and plays his Nintendo DS, while the older daughter and parents run the kitchen/service.

Chada Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant in Seattle. A hole in the wall gem of a restaurant that delivers the most delicious Thai food I've had. Be warned that their 1 star hot rating is pretty hot. Other than that - enjoy! I'd eat here every week if I could. (I drive 10-15min for take out)

Very mediocre all around. We both ordered our food to be 4-stars level of spicy, but mine came out very mild and my finance's came out too spicy.

Great Thai food. The family that runs it knows and recognizes regulars. Take out or dine in. Is it the fanciest of places? No, but a lot of great places to eat in Seattle are just a hole in the wall

I took my Mom here to eat a few days ago as it's in the neighborhood and was a place where I could get a tofu (vegan) option and she could get chicken. We both had Pad Thai. We chose our own seating and the waitress brought our menus and came back shortly thereafter with cool lemon water and took our order. We both enjoyed our food and made a point of getting a takeout menu so we could order and pick up next time. Can't wait to try some other items from their menu. The fact that this place seemed very clean was a big plus.

Love Chada Thai. I have had take-out and eaten in the restaurant. Both are excellent. Our family LOVES the spring rolls and the Pad Thai. It is our "go to" Thai restaurant.

My friend and I decided we would get lost for a while and then stop and use the Yelp App to see what restaurants were nearby. At some point we got lost enough that the nearest Thai restaurant, Chada, was about 1.2 miles away. Good thing the iPhone has Google Maps. Double True. Whenever I go to a new Thai restaurant I order Phad Thai, because if they can't make Phad Thai, they probably can't make anything else. That, and Phad Thai is really the only Thai food I eat. Whoops. I like the idea that I'm judging all Thai restaurants on their Phad Thai though and I would otherwise order something else. It makes me sound thoughtful. Setting The place is larger than I would expect for a Thai place that seems like it is in the middle of nowhere. Though there are people that live there so that it is definitely somewhere. I still don't really know where I was. I'll check out the address of this place when I am done writing this review. The inside of Chada Thai is very red. I like it. Apparently there was also a walk up window for to-go orders. Service Okay, it's a Thai restaurant. The lady took our orders, brought the right food, filled our water. That's the best one can expect from any Thai restaurant, and she did it all. Food As I mentioned earlier I ordered the Phad Thai, with Tofu. I ordered 5 stars before she told me it only went up to 4 stars. Maybe I should do that every time I go to any Thai place because for the first time ever I didn't get white person stars. I got real stars. I got spice. Yay spice! Of course, along with that spice the lady came by twice to make sure I was okay and could handle it (including warning me before I took my first bite that it might be too spicy). It wasn't. Thai people think they handle spice better than white people but they are wrong. It was very spicy. I can handle it. I'm a man. I eat raw peppers. Compared to that this was weak. Mad bonus points though for actually giving me the level of spice I asked for. Now, I didn't think this was the best Phad Thai I've had, which is why this place only gets 4 stars instead of 5. It was good, but not great. A little bit more flavor would have helped. Overall Very impressed with the spice and I like layout of the restaurant. If ever find myself in... whatever area I was in again I could definitely see myself going back.

I would give Chada four stars, but I do have a couple of issues. I've eaten here a lot because I live nearby, and they are a very solid and reliably good Thai restaurant. The food is fresh and tasty. My main issue is the spiciness. If you haven't been there before, beware: 3 stars will burn your mouth right out of your face. I can't even tolerate 1 star. My fiance got 3 stars once, and he could barely eat it. This is not a wimpy man when it comes to spicy food. I'd like to get a little extra heat, but you just never know if you're going to get 1 star and it's going to make your lips go numb. My other issue is that sometimes the customer service can be a little iffy. I'm not at all offended by it that they're not always super welcoming to their patrons, but sometimes you feel like you're bothering them. Otherwise, though, great food, and the place is pretty clean. The pad Thai is really delicious.

The previous reviewer who said this restaurant is expensive obviously hasn't eaten at any other Thai place in Seattle. The prices are in fact about par, and are much lower than some of the Fremont Thai places I've tried. I hadn't been to Chada for many years when a yen for Larb Gai sent me in. The portion was huge and I ate on it three times. Also ordered the Chada special noodle, which is a brown sauce with meat and veg over crunchy chow mein noodles. It was also delicious and she packed it in separate boxes so the noodles would be crunchy when I got home. They also do a fabulous Black Sticky Rice Pudding. All in all, everything was delicious and the portions were large. The restaurant itself is okay, clean but sparse, and yes, the lady was all alone at phones and waiting tables. I went in at lunch time mid-week and she was juggling take out orders along with a walk in customer. While I was there, two more take out orders came through, so I"m thinking they don't do a lot of in-restaurant dining but mostly take out orders. Anyway, it was worth the price and the fairly short wait and I will be going back. Note, if you don't like your food spicy, order with care. I ordered medium, and it was on the upper edge of what I can handle. Way back in the dark ages, a friend who likes it hot ordered five star and he sweated and panted through his meal. Just FYI

The garlic chicken is really good. Just be prepared to drink like 5 glasses of water after, because it's salty. Tofu is really dry and spongy in texture. If this is your thing, you'll like it. I've never actually seen someone eating in the restaurant, but whenever I get takeout there are 3 or 4 other people waiting too. As I recall, this place only goes up to 4 stars in heat, so keep that in mind when you're ordering... Overall, it's decent if you live in the neighborhood.

I'm really honestly sad to be giving this place two stars, but after what I experienced, I can't let it go unsaid. This place is close to home, and I've been going here for years. Not only has the quality in the food gone downhill, the service is even worse. The staff, the main lady who works here in particular is flat out rude. My boyfriend came here during his lunch for work, he repairs sewers and he was wearing his work boots. They don't have a mat at the front door or anything, so when he came in, a little bit of dirt came off onto the floor. The lady came up sweeping and scolding him telling him to take his shoes off outside before he came in. Not only that there was a teenage duo that ordered the crispy garlic chicken and when they bit into it, it hurt their mouth, the same lady that was so rude to my boyfriend told them "never order it again if you hate it". They didn't hate it, they tried explaining they come there all the time and it was never like this and she just repeated herself. Unfriendly service, rude to customers and cannot take criticism. I honestly used to really like this place, but I don't think anyone should run a business like this. Literally no smiles, no thank yous' or have a nice day. I won't be giving them my business anymore, when I go out I like to feel like a welcomed guest, but you won't get that here, at least not anymore :(

My boyfriend and I love food and could easily be considered food critics. I initially signed up for a yelp acount to talk about this place and how much i love it. Like others have said, don't be fooled by the looks of it from the outside or the first impression of the lady that works there..she dosn't come off as very friendly but I asure that isn't the case. She is an extremely hard working woman and in a matter of two visits she already had my order memorized. Shes just a little reserved is all. This place is by far my favorite thai restaurant in Seattle and will now and forever be a loyal customer. Lunch special is killer. Best phad thai I've ever had. If you know whats good for you, try this place.

Having recently moved in to the nerighborhood, figured it was time to try this favorably rated place. Yes, the Crispy Garlic Chicken was good but the Chada's Famous Chicken was bland. Worse part was the service. We were at fiorst the only ones in the place at the time, and eventaully only 4 tables were occupied. Had to take our own menus as no one brought them over. No smiles, no friendly interaction in any of the process. No one ever came back to our table to see how things were going. Then, we had to go to the counter to ask for a couple of take-out containers and for our check. Not a good first experience and no plans to go back.

Why can't yelp add half stars? If they did my rating would be going from previously a 3 to a 3.5. I ordered the crispy chicken and pad thai. Remembering how spicy the food was previously I said, "1." The chicken was shatteringly crispy...each bite was yummy goodness. If only the chicken itself wasn't so dry... =( The coating alone is worth 5 stars but the chicken was worth 1 star. The pad thai was unlike any other pad thai I have ever seen before. Normally it has a reddish color to it but this one was more brown. The taste was there but my gosh it was HOT HOT HOT. Even at a 1 I could only eat a couple of bites. Going back for the chicken...and hoping it isn't as dry as the last time.

We just moved to the neighborhood, and SO excited this place is 4 blocks away. Crispy Garlic Chicken is amazing! The owner said it is a secret recipe, there is certainly some magic to produce the sweet, spicy, sticky, basil-infused coating on the chicken. Also Mussaman Curry was hearty and coconutty, with big chunks of potato and slivers of beef. We got takeout one night and went back to dine in. They are very busy with takeout orders, but were still attentive to us. We will be back again, real soon!!

Chada Thai is BOMB! I love this place. I've read a few reviews where people complained about decor or their children playing their Nintendo handheld games in there. Honestly I don't care about their decor nor do I care about their children being there. They don't run around and they sometimes take your order. It's kinda cute...anyhow...the decor is like any other hole in the wall Asian restaurant...don't act surprised. What really matters is the food, and it's really effin' good. Swimming Rama and Yellow curry chicken are our favorites!

Chada Thai doesn't look like much from the outside or inside but behind the curtain in the kitchen is where the magic happens. Quite simply, Chada Thai has the best thai food from Holman Road through Shoreline. Their Pad See Ew is delectable, red curry top notch, and tempura garlic chicken bursts through the box and is otherworldly awesome. General Tso out of the way: this is the Asian breaded chicken you've been dreaming about. So how about the spice? Other places throw some pepper flakes here and there with little effect but Chada will bring the heat if required. However, they can also tone it down if need be. I have a baby at home and they made her a pad thai minus the peanuts and adequately mild. Perfect and still very tasty. Pricing is right around eight to ten bucks for just about everything, a fair deal. I spent several months trying to find a place like this and now that I've found Chada I have made it my goal to recommend them every chance I get. So place your order now and when you pick up get ready to sign the bill on top of the tiniest note pad you will ever see. Love the Chada Thai!

I have gone to Chada before and every time I never had a problem, but today, I did. I noticed that lady that worked there was in a bad mood, which made the atmosphere an uncomfortable place to be in. Another lady greeted my friends and I, asking us how many people we have, which we answered 4. She never seated us nor gave us menus. We had to physically get up and get them ourselves. I ordered the Panang curry, which was expensive. She was also very rude to my friends and also never said "good bye" or "have a nice day."

Wonderful, small family owned Thai. Generous portions, tender shrimp (not overcooked to a chewy lump), amazing fresh Thai herbs. They love the chili flakes, so if you normally like 3 or 4 stars, try it at 2 and go from there. The Tom Kha Goong is decadent - perfect balance of broth and coconut milk - keeps you shoveling it down till there's nothing but herbs at the bottom. How did I luck out to find a place as amazing as the old Siam on Broadway? Thank you team Chada - who cares that you're in a little strip mall - you're keeping me happy.

This place is good for your neighborhood thai food. It's pretty clean inside and the food is pretty good. I had the chicken pad thai. There are places that have it better, but this one is pretty good. The pad thai here was too oily and had too much peanuts.

Not bad seems to be the common theme here and I have to agree. The atmosphere is not great and in fact I find the orange walls a bit too much but for the price you shouldn't expect a lot of charm. We ordered two salads. One with chicken, peanuts, basil and lime (sorry, am bad w/names). This one was a bit too salty but I guess it IS Thai food. Also, the peanuts in the chicken salad tasted rancid to me. The one with peanut sauce were pretty good except it was all iceberg lettuce which is not that appealing to me. I guess what I am saying is I really liked the peanut sauce which made up for the rest of the salad being pretty mediocre although fresh. We also ordered a seafood dish with green beans, peppers,, mushrooms and basil. It was pretty good I guess but I don't know if I would order it again. The bathroom was pretty clean if you care about that. I am not sure if I ever received a fortune cookie in a Thai restaurant before but free dessert is always nice.

I haven't been to very many thai places, but this place had the best phad thai I've ever had. By our third visit, the server knew our orders by heart. I went once and it was too spicy although I had requested 1 star and that's how I always eat it (I'm weak, what can I say). My date ordered two stars and his was unbearably hot as well. They replaced our meals and the next time we came remembered. The only thing I found irritating is that the service is a bit lacking when it's busy. But that's to be expected in a family owned restaurant. Not a lot of serving staff.

you cant go wrong with anything you order here. Panag Curry, Masuman Beef Curry, Pineapple fried rice, Garlic Chicken (fried and stir fry versions), Chicken Basil are all on my regular menu. I'm not as impressed with their Phad See Yew, or Phad Thai though. I can say that I'm impressed with their spice levels. I usually get 3, but this is really thai spicy. If you cant handle spicy, I'd get a 1 or 0.

This is our neighborhood Thai spot. Try the crispy chicken. It is super addictive (crunchy, garlicky, sweet & savory, fried goodness); and it's a big order! (plenty for 2-3 people, especially if you're ordering other dishes). The "standard" fare is pretty good too (pad thai, pad kee mao, pad see ew, curries, etc). They don't mess around with spice. At other Thai restaurants I order 4 stars (out of 5). At Chada I order 2 stars (out of 4) and it punches some heat.

I've always said that if you have had one Thai restaurant, you have had them all. Boy was I wrong. A friend of mine introduced me to this little gem, and the Thai food was amazing. It was like rediscovering the wheel. The interior of the restaurant is a bit rundown, but ultimately I feel like it adds to the charm.

So happy I finally made it here after hearing so many rave reviews. Decent chicken satay, great Tom Kha, and perfect Phad Thai. This is this sort of place that fills me with confidence that there probably isn't a bad dish in the house, and I can't wait to try the rest. Also wonderful owners.

3 star should just be "OK". Cuz that's what Chada Thai is. Just.....OK. My visit was on a Friday evening at 5:15, and other than 3-4 to go pickups coming in, we were the only ones in here. I've been here twice and while the atmosphere has progressed with a repaint and a little more decor, it's still bland and extremely "graveyard" quiet. The mandarin orange paint job is an interesting choice for walls, but doesn't hide the fact that the floors look like my elementary school cafeteria. The place seems to be owned and run by a family and even though that sounds like a fun, neighborhood experience, we were waited on and served by an awfully bashful 13-14 year old girl and that was a bit disturbing to me. Especially when it was evident that she didn't feel comfortable taking our orders and interacting with us. Uhhh...child labor laws....hello? I'm not quite sure the Health Department would be able to verify her King County Health Card accreditation. The wait to order was obnoxious as well. In all fairness, I think they were pretty backed up on to go orders, but I watched the clock on the wall in front of us and it took LITERALLY 15 minutes for the pre-pubescent server to come take our order after we had been seated. This was disappointing as I had family with me and they were growing impatient sitting in an empty restaurant without acknowledgment. But enough of the bad. Like someone mentioned below,. I think one of the best things about Chada Thai is that it hasn't skewed the "star ratings" when it comes to heat. They will second guess you a bit if you order 5-star and you're a whitey, but I'm use to that from Thai establishments by now. ;) Once they ask you if you're sure, it's off to the races and Chada Thai doesn't hold back (like most Thai places do, even if you insist they bring it) Prices are extremely reasonable- most entrees are between $8-10 and they have just started some lunch combos with prices averaging $6-8. Portions are good. Not great. Good. Let's just say standard portions for the price point. Phad Kee Mao and Red Curry Shrimp were delightful while Swimming Rama was a bit MEH. Fresh Rolls (one of my faves) were quite tasty, but not cool enough. I hate them when they come out less than cold. Makes me think they have been sitting out all day. All in all, Chada Thai seems like it serves a better function as a pickup/to go Thai Restaurant and that seemed apparent during both visits as the place was empty but the togo pickups stayed steady. This place isn't gonna "wow' you, but it serves a purpose. Thai food in the Greenwood neighborhood is slim pickens.

So being asian I have to say I go back and forth with how I eat my asian food. Sometimes I really need authentic robust flavors and sometimes I eat at panda express. However I do love going to Chada Thai, they have a very delicious fried rice. I've had the Panang Curry which was certainly not goop. The special chicken with a sweet basil sauce is also quite good. The garlic chicken and shrimp come in this sauce that I would really love to pour over rice. I'm sure there are things on the menu that aren't the greatest, but it's close to my house, it's relatively cheap, and I love the family that runs the place (the daughter who must be in her early teens takes orders and the 5 year old son seats people and brings menus and water). I'm not saying it's the best thai food in the world, but it's homey, farm style comfort thai food that's a good value and a small business I am happy to support in this bad economy.

i had to write a review about this place, while i never write these...i thought it necessary because i have been so impressed with this place. one day i was feeling the need for some good home made equivalent pad thai. i did a Google search and this place came up, it was close to my hous. it had a good review so i thought i'd give it a try. i walked in and immediately thought i had made a mistake, the restaurant looks uninviting, a lady greeted me and asked for here or to go, i said to go. she asked me what i wanted as if i knew the menu already. i asked for the menu and she motioned to the brochure size fold outs in a stand. i looked it over and decided on pad thai beef. got it home and it was excellent, a huge portion. the next time i returned the lady again asked for here or to go, i said to go, knowing that it would be a minute i walked over to the red box to get a movie and then returned to my car to put the movies away. during this surprisingly the lady came out with my food got my attention and handed it to me wishing me a good night. i would recommend this diamond in the rough to anyone who likes good thai food!

We had take out from Chada Thai tonight. We had a chunk of blue rubber glove and a chunk of metallic scrubber in our Phad Thai. I called the restaurant and they didn't want to refund our money. UNBELIEVABLE! We will not return.

Yum yum! Great find! From the outside it looks like kind of a dive in a random strip mall... Don't let that fool you. Delicious! Best pad Thai.. Normally I can't stand pad thai because of the ketchupy flavor. Also the pad kee mao is great! We have been there 3 or 4 times and it is very consistent.

So, as my super-amazingly-awesome roommate (who also introduced me to the Yelp world btw) knows, I love, Love, LOVE Thai food! Seriously. I mean it. I work in the very north end of Seattle which is how I found Chada Thai, an unassuming little joint in basically a strip mall. It's not the fanciest or flashiest place, but I have often found that some of the best food comes from the most unassuming places and am so glad I gave it a try. While I have read some of the mixed reviews, I have to say that I have been here many times and really enjoy this little restaurant. The family that owns it is very sweet and will remember your order if you have been there a few times. It's not somewhere I usually head to if I'm feeling fancy and looking for ambience, but for good reasonably-priced Thai food (with a respectable spice level) Chada Thai is a standby for me. For some reason I can't identify, this place is not my favorite for the phad thai, but my coworkers really enjoy it so I'm not sure what my problem is. However, I have had the red curry, phad see ew, rad na, swimming rama, phad kee mao, tom kha gai, green curry, basil chicken, phad ka na, spring rolls and thoroughly enjoyed them all - the tom kha gai soup is an amazing giant bowl of deliciousness! While I'm not usually a dessert person, they recently added sticky rice and mango to the menu and it was perfectly ripe and wonderful.

i just had a very pleasant little box of chicken pad thai from this place. the egg and tofu bits were plentiful, and it was very spicy for two stars, and the sauce wasn't unctuous sugary bullshit, definitely homemade. lots of peanuts and a little red cabbage in there, a nice aesthetic touch. huge portion for like seven bucks. the lady was friendly and fixed it up real quick like. well done, especially for a strip mall. i'm impressed.

Based on the other reviews, I suspect that some of the meat dishes may be better. But, in my personal experience, it was really shocking that such bad Thai food could be served in a city like Seattle that has such a Thai-savvy population and so many good restaurants to train our palates. Our fish cakes were average - not good, but passable - but the entree was a gloppy goo. I can't in good conscience call it a curry. The tofu and vegetables were stuck in a coagulated but unspiced, unflavorful thick sauce. The atmosphere was depressing too, dim and empty. We will absolutely be making the drive further afield rather than going to the neighborhood choice next time we get a craving for Thai cuisine.

Great spicy Thai food. Recommend the take out. Great prices. The restaurant is pretty spartan ... not real comfortable for dinner dining. And the wait staff is, shall we say .... extremely casual. The owner says he won't cook anything over 4 stars ... "I don't use those cheap Chinese spices." And true to his word ... in 52 years, his 4 stars are the hottest Thai food I have run across ... even hotter than all stars at Thai Tom in the U District. George.

I love the Phad Thai here. They are the only Thai restaurant in Seattle that will make it spicy enough, and one of the few with a good flavor (and I've been to many on my "best Phad Thai" search, most taste like ketchup, but not here!). I make special trips to this restaurant when I can, though since I don't live or work near here anymore I don't go very often. They still know my name when I call in my order! I don't usually eat in the restaurant but it is on par with other Thai restaurants. I can't really speak for the rest of their food though the spring rolls are tiny, tasty and plentiful.

I lived near Chada Thai for almost ten years. For the first 7 years or so, it was decent food but the guy who owned the place acted like you were lucky to be graced with the outstanding cuisine. It was just ok. So, I drove across I-5 and down the hill to the (now gone and much lamented) Thai Pearl. Well, not long before moving away from the Bitter Lake area, I'm not sure why I stopped in .. maybe because Thai Pearl closed? And lo and behold new owners. Very nice people, much better food, and somehow a lighter atmosphere in the same dining room. Less curtains? Or just brighter folks? Wish I'd known sooner that Chada Thai had changed hands, I missed meals I'd have had there. I still make a point of stopping in, when I'm in the neighborhood. In fact, it's still the nearest Thai I care to go to.

Moved to Seattle almost 2 years ago and never really found a great Thai place that's reasonably priced. I have to admit that I was a bit sketched out considering the location of the restaurant, but it was suprisingly good. The little boy/host is a riot and always makes me laugh. The staff always seems to remember everyone that comes in. Several times, they've asked us if we want our "regular" order. I gotta say...the coconut milk/lemongrass soup is fantastic - well flavored, spicy and with just a little hint of sweetness. The green curry is also fantastic. There have been times that I've taken my spoon and eaten the leftover curry even after all the meat and veggies are gone. It's that tasty. I've gone to other Thai places with comparable prices. Chada Thai is the only one that I've gone back to.

I've only been once, so far, but I love the fact that when I ask for spicy, I get spicy. I like that the phad thai doesn't have the color or flavor of ketchup. I recommend it if you live in the neighborhood.

This is a place that will know your order after you've been in a few times. It's fun to order 'the usual' from the terrifically friendly 'So What' ( a phoenetic interpretation of the owner's name) famous for his smile and 'No problem!' response to almost any request. For years, I was partial to the beef curry and the fab satay. We drop in here on occasion still, even though we have a neighborhood Thai place closer to home. I've brought friends and family here, too, who have also found the food enjoyable. I'm surprised at the negative posts from other reviewers. Perhaps an off night. Give it a try. It's not fancy, but I've always been satisfied.

I used to go here a lot when I lived in the neighborhood. I loved their pad thai, seafood fried rice, and garlic chicken. Their pad thai wasn't too sweet, but just right. I still do a take out every once in a while, but I wish they were closer.

This is our neighborhood Thai place, and after being Thai-deprived for many years we think it's very good. We get take-out from here about once a week. The chicken satay skewers are moist and flavorful and the pud thai is delicious (even if it looks a little bland in color). The medium spice is pretty hot to us, though in a good way. Passable Thai food in a typical restaurant setting with the obligatory Thai artwork on the walls. This place has been in the Broadview neighborhood for years and has an established customer base so they must be doing something right even if its only average.

My family has consistently been going to Chada Thai since it opened before I was born. The owners saw me grow up. We've seen it swing up and down, but right now I'd recommend it. The restaurant under original management warranted 5 stars easily. A few years ago they went under new management and the food suffered. My family stopped going there all together, but I've given it a few more tries. At first it was quite mediocre, but now it's much better, closer to how it used to be. I always order their Panang Beef, and it keeps getting better. Their Phad Thai is merely OK, I'd pass on it if I were you. The service is wonderful. Even when I give you my name over the phone it still feels great to be greeted by name twice every time I come in. There is always a little kid there who makes me smile. It's run down, but I really don't mind as I almost always get takeout anyway. Try the home made coconut ice cream if you want a treat!

Boom. New favorite Thai spot. Crispy Garlic Chicken and Pad Kee Mao all day. Worth the drive from Ballard.

Best Thai Food in North Seattle!!! Best Phad thai, Crispy garlic chicken, and fried spring rolls with plum sauce. Always heaping portions. Order to go all the time. :D

  • Opal D.

  • Micah A.

Just FYI

  • Stephanie B.

  • Scott M.

  • Eric O.

  • Rose B.

Good food and good service. The rice is usually overcooked. I like the Coconut Milk soup, soooooooo yummy. Chicken Satay is bomb too.

  • Nicolas Z.

Been here many times since it's close, but I'm finally done. The taste and hotness are both very inconsistent. Not the worst place for sure, but there are so many Thai places in Seattle that are far better and more consistent.

Swimming Rama and Yellow curry chicken are our favorites!

i had to write a review about this place, while i never write these...i thought it necessary because i have been so impressed with this place. one day i was feeling the need for some good home made equivalent pad thai. i did a Google search and this place came up, it was close to my hous. it had a good review so i thought i'd give it a try. i walked in and immediately thought i had made a mistake, the restaurant looks uninviting, a lady greeted me and asked for here or to go, i said to go. she asked me what i wanted as if i knew the menu already. i asked for the menu and she motioned to the brochure size fold outs in a stand. i looked it over and decided on pad thai beef. got it home and it was excellent, a huge portion. the next time i returned the lady again asked for here or to go, i said to go, knowing that it would be a minute i walked over to the red box to get a movie and then returned to my car to put the movies away. during this surprisingly the lady came out with my food got my attention and handed it to me wishing me a good night. i would recommend this diamond in the rough to anyone who likes good thai food!

We're happy to have in the hood!
