Chaco Canyon Organic Cafe serves flavourful meals that taste good and are also good for you. We were going to get a lentil burger, but a nice lady ahead of us recommended artichoke melt. (We always appreciate and accept good recommendations from fellow foodies!) So we went with the recommendation along with Egyptian red lentil soup and Eggless Spinach Mushroom Quiche with potato hash. It took for awhile for our food to come out as the cafe was buzzing with a lot of brunch customers. I wish the water they had out there had been chilled, but the food, when it finally came out, was AMAZING!!! The artichoke melt was creamy and filled with chunks of tasty artichokes on super crispy and yummy bread. The soup was slightly tangy and loaded with full of veggies. The quiche came out super hot and had a super nice, crispy, and delicious crust. I wish all quiches were always that tasty even without any eggs! The hash was not your typical hash. It had lots of chunky veggies. It was slightly sweet, super hearty, and simply delicious. Although I was full after all the delicious goodness, I felt clean and great afterwards. I know we are going to be back there soon!

I tried Chaco Canyon for a lunch out on my own. I was attracted to the fact that *everything* is vegan in the cafe. That's fantastic. If you are vegan, no having to worry about whether something is or is not vegan. I had a THB sandwich with tomato soup and a cookie for dessert. I have to say, my favorite cookies are all vegan. This was a chocolate chip hazelnut cookie and it was superb. The sandwich I had without veganaise and it was quite good. I really liked the soup and would go back to have that again any day. The food prices were reasonable. They were about what you'd expect in Seattle, especially in a specialty vegan cafe. I did spend nearly $20 including my soup and sandwich and cookie. I had water to drink. Clean up is self-done. The cafe was quite loud. Really full and pretty long line the entire time I was there. It was really warm in the inside seating area on a hot summer day in Seattle. There are 3 little tables outside for seating, but I was not inclined to sit outside. I'll be back as it is close to my work, I liked the food, and the price is fine.

We had a great coffee and apple/blackberry pie. Very nice in this cold weather. My daughter and I enjoyed it really much. Thr place is clean and well decorated. Very eco friendly environment. The local art on the wall is beautiful. Most little plants in the store and at your table have their names on them. And the staff is friendly. Great looking food. My daughter had tried it. Reason to come back here!

Their Jan menu is a-rockin' -- Chanterelle leek sandwich? Yes, please! You've got to try their sweet potato pie -- luscious filling, cruchy granola-y topping, and lovely crust. And vegan to boot.... Chaco, how much do I love you? Let me count the ways...

I was a bit skeptical about this place because I didn't think that vegetarian/vegan restaurants could be that good. Too hippie! Too peace drum circle chants! Chaco Canyon was luckily neither of those things. It's a lovely restaurant that gave me a nice tranquil lunch break. I didn't mind the wait time which wasn't long at all, even though the menu says the hot sandwiches take 15 minutes to make. My food was epically delicious. I ordered a full Tofu Scramble sandwich with a salad. The salad was perfectly dressed and had great texture and crunch. I wish I had ordered a half sandwich instead because it was very filling. The bean sprouts made sandwich bites a bit messy but I loved the tofu and vegan cheesy sauce and gave me the egg sandwich I wanted without the animal products or fart sealed in a Tupperware stench. Next time, I'll have to try some of the raw chocolate raspberry cake. It looked really good!

Cool place! Although I did not like the raw enchiladas, inside was super creamy and not very Mexican like. I do want to go back soon and try something more enjoyable. Recommend for vegans, vegetarians or people trying to eat healthier/organic food!

My 12 year old and I arrived seconds before another pair of customers and then waited at the counter for over ten minutes waiting to give our order. No fewer than five employees came up to the counter, did whatever s/he was up to, made eye contact, ignored us, and turn around and left without saying a word. I looked forward to experiencing Chaco Canyon for years but I am sorely disappointed--HORRIBLE customer service, bathroom wasn't very clean, the two doorways made the seating area very cold and drafty, puny portions, bland food, highly priced, meager condiments on hand (and I wonder if the salt was even sea salt considering the self important vegan hipster attitude evident in this place seemed all encompassing). I additionally was mortified that while we had 35 minutes before our movie started, by the time we got our soups and fresh juices (which I asked for in a to go so I could take it with me and not guzzle but she forgot and served it in a restaurant cup), we had less than five minutes to high tail it to the movies. I will never go back here. I don't care if you are a too cool PETA loving 20 year old UoW student, acknowledge your customers within 30 seconds of arrival and you're likely to get a second chance. All of your attitudes are bad for the owner's business and I'm surprised the business has made it this long. One small caveat: The Egyptian Red Lentil soup was quite good after adding the quinoa, but again, I can easily make 2 qts of this at home for the price of a bowl at Chaco Canyon

From March 2012....Everything was yummy and well presented, though a bit on the expensive side of burger-like costs.

Wow! Tasty and healthy, what could go wrong with that?!! The moment you step into this restaurant you get the cool Seattle hipster vibe. You order the food and then seat yourself. The menu is so extensive, there is something for everyone here. They have great options for kids too. Yes, its a little pricey, but the taste and quality of the food more than compensates for it. Since it was our first time we made some safe choices. I had seen rave reviews earlier about their lentil burger, so definitely wanted to try that. We also ordered the eggless spinach mushroom quiche and some brown rice and tofu scramble with peanut sauce. For drinks we had the lemon ginger spritzer which tasted wonderful and refreshing. The lentil burger was indeed very tasty. The tofu scramble was so flavorful and full of spice, it almost didnt feel like you are eating tofu. The quiche was quite simple but tasty. I would have personally liked some more flavor or spice in the quiche but made up for it with some hot sauce. I picked a maple chia pudding to go with the quiche and it was a very unique combination of ingredients, the chia pudding topped with dried coconut shavings, almonds and banana slices. Yum! The overall presentation of the food was fabulous and appetizing. Service was great and the atmosphere was so informal and laid back. I cant wait to go back here and try the other menu items. A true gem!

it had been probably a year or so since i had been here before my most recent visit, on earth day, a month and a bit ago. i was expecting to wait awhile for takeout but i was super impressed with the efficiency of the team working! my friend who was staying in had his food within the 15 minutes that i had received my food to take out as well! i ordered the raw tunaless sandwich which was a sweet oniony assembly with lots of sprouts and perfectly soft bread that was smooth and firm and lasted easily in the car for the hour or so before i ate it without becoming dry or mushy. YAY! it came with a lovely salad which also kept well. i ordered the smoothie of the day - the local cherry - which i felt a bit like a jerk for gulping down (in its to-go cup) while still in the restaurant. how earth-friendly of me. sigh!

I recently found myself having dinner plans with a few people on a raw diet (two of whom were passing through Seattle), and this is the spot they picked to try. I'd never been to Chaco Canyon or consciously planned to have a "raw meal" before, so I was excited to try something new! Sadly I didn't end up picking anything TOO exciting. I had the cucumber & sea veggie salad. It was pretty tasty, but I was bummed that I didn't get enough sea veggies. Those just sound so much more exciting than spinach and cucumber! The woman at the counter and the person that gave us our food were not the friendliest. I'm not sure if it was just an off day for them or if they were the "I know how to do this business, but customer service is just not my thing" kind of people. I wanted to try one of their in-house kombucha options, and was sad to discover they didn't have any that evening. On my "to try next" list are the (raw) Cilantro Pesto Pizza and the Raw Bowls!

Boy, if you ever are having a downer kind of day, lemme give you some advice....Go get some exercise in your system, whether it be a walk around Greenlake Park, one hundred jumping jacks in your living room or a muscle pumping workout at the gym AND then go here to Chaco Canyon for a meal. I swear whenever I eat here I feel like I just gave my insides an hour long massage. I have been here probably 15 times and every visit has been great. I have had their rockin' lattes, their simply divine juices ( I usually get the "flu buster" and have them toss in some hemp protein ) (fyi- it's an acquired taste adding the hemp to the hot juice ) and a few of their entrees. My go to entree which fantastically ALWAYS tastes yummy is their Thai Peanut Bowl. I must tell you that I request quinoa instead of the brown rice it comes with and also tofu and extra peanuts. It's like a KA-POW! of delicious protein in a bowl. It gets kind of crowded at times but I really like that place. My fave "fast" veggie dining spot in Seattle. Oh, one more tidbit, get the cowboy cookie ( i think it's called that or "ranger" cookie)

As a person that can't live without meat, I have to say this place is great!!!! Can't believe I would say the vegetarian food are so good!!! Not fake meat, just really good vegetarian food. Try it if u got a chance :)

This place is SO good that I can't get past the Lentil Burger, even though I yearn to try other things in the menu. The Lentil burger is hands down the best burger I've ever had - the house special sauce is I think what makes this special. I've tried the THC sandwich and tofu scramble as well, and felt happy and full both times. Doesn't get my extra star 'cos of the price - definitely NOT cheap. That said, I don't mind making a trip here from the east side every weekend just to have their Lentil burger one more time, each time. ;)

Basically you can't feel guilty eating here. Vegan. No gluten. Organic. This menu really shows creativity with an eye for sustainability. Everything on the menu is vegan and there are lots of gluten-free options, including gf sandwiches. The ingredients are quality, fresh, organic, local, and sustainable. I ordered the THC sandwich: molasses wheat bread with housemade garlicky hummus, smoked paprika TEMPEH bacon, cucumbersandsprouts. It came with a DELICIOUS house salad. with sprouts, carrots, vinegar pickled onions and a light vinaigrette. The smoothies were really good and tasty! Not too sweet! I had a wonderful, cleansing meal at Chaco Canyon. What a great way to start the New Year FRESH!

I love this place. I try to get in at least a couple of times per month. I'm sure most of what they serve is good, but I wouldn't know. I pretty much always get the Might MoFo hot sandwich - their vegan version of a Ruben. It's just delicious. The juice bar is really good, too.

I've had a mixed bag of experiences here, from a pretty tasty lentil burger to the worst french toast of my life, and I don't say that lightly. While they might have their better days, more often than not I've left here feeling like I wasted my money and wishing I saved my calorie allotment for the day on something much better.

Since I am gluten-free but cannot bake my way out of an overused metaphor, I am always on the look out for good, affordable gluten-free treats that I will never make myself. I love Chaco Canyon for so many reasons, but I am still reeling from the effort of trying to finish "bake my way out of..." that I really don't feel like writing a long review of the place. Though I don't live anywhere near it, I always make time to stop if I am going to be passing through the u district. They have amazing vegan/raw/gluten free options, and plenty of non-raw/gluten free options for those who don't care. My daughter can't have any sugar, and the last time I brought her there, the cashier took the time to get out a big ingredient binder and flip through until she found a dessert that was agave-sweetened and gluten free, so that my daughter and I could share some dessert. I saw a review on here about how the numerous questions people ask here irritated the reviewer, but the fact that Chaco canyon's employees are willing to take the time for people with specific dietary needs reflects on their commitment to promoting community along with good food.

Great, friendly, accommodating staff and delicious food! The London Fog was worth the hellish drive from Capitol Hill to West Seattle at rush hour with construction and rain. The food and environmental is WELL worth it all!

With the newest menu change, ALL the good sandwiches are gone. NO MORE PESTO MELT. LAME. And the already pricy prices are ever pricier. I had an artichoke melt with a cup of soup and it was $15, plus tip, because tipping is nice and good. it was the tiniest little sandwich ever. My friend had a chana masala bowl which was also ridiculously priced for what you get. I am sad.

I only popped in for a quick bite on my way to a meeting, but the empanada I got was really good. The staff was friendly, it was quick, and what I got was tasty. They also have stumptown coffee so overall this place is awesome. It is on my bike route so I will definitely be coming back.

I am so addicted to this place. And it's the one place I'm not a high maintenance eater. Their raw pizzas and enchiladas are my favorite. I'm addicted to their taco salad and falafel bowl. I hope the falafel bowl makes a comeback as a monthly special. If you are healthy eater and haven't tried this place, go now. Right now. You won't be sorry.

I am so crazy impressed with Chaco Canyon, I don't even know where to start. I wish all restaurants were a fraction as ecologically responsible! My Pesto Melt was divine. I wasn't as crazy about the Vindaloo soup that came with it (very thin and watery, unlike, you know, Vindaloo), but it still had great flavor and lots of turmeric to go around. That Pesto Melt, though.......HOOOOOOLY crap. At first bite, my eyes rolled back into my head, because it is some of the BEST pesto I've ever had. They even add a creamy cashew cheese spread to give you the "melt" experience. The veggies were simple - cucumbers and sprouts - and gave the pesto lots of room to shine. I devoured it in record speed. Better than the food, though, are the ethics. There's not a trashcan in sight, just bins to put your dishes in, with a sign explaining they'll compost everything they can. Are you kidding me?! I have no problem paying $12 for an epically delicious sandwich, especially when I know my scraps aren't going to the dump but a compost. Chaco, you are raising the bar. I can't wait until your attitude catches on!!

I am nowhere close to being a vegetarian/vegan/someone who cares about whether my food is organic but this place is amazing! Got the lentil burger and some sort of soup on the side. It was so amazing I would take it over a normal burger 80% of the time...which is saying something. A little pricey for something that is very casual and cafe like.

Solid vegan, organic (read, healthy) food. It reminded me of a place that would be in either Eugene or Portland. I had a hot (!) juice called the flu buster with SO much flavor and spice. I also ordered the tofu scramble sandwich, which was messy but good. Probably would not order it again because it was hard to eat. On the side I had their seasonal butternut soup with a side of quinoa, which was the highlight. My roommate had a cup of lentil soup with a reuben sandwich, which he liked. The menu was overwhelmingly large and, being vegan, really hard to decide on what to order. You could go there every day for months and never have the same thing twice. For me, there were a few too many options. But everything looked good. Also enjoy leaving a restaurant feeling healthy and light, even with all that I ordered. That doesn't usually happen!

Oh Chaco, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. All organic, fresh, delicious.... full coffee menu, seasonal specials, smoothies, juices, and a nice selection of gluten free options for those of us with allergies or on elimination diets. They get pretty crowded sometimes... I count that as a sign of success. You might have to wait in line but it will be worth it. All the employees always seem to be working their hardest to put out the best products possible. Really love this place. Reliable deliciousness.

We just tried Chaco Canyon for the first time yesterday and it was amazing! My husband and I split the Lentil Burger and Mighty Mofo (think vegan reuben), both with salads on the side. The salads were bright, fresh and colorful. The sandwiches were rich and tasty, yet somehow still light and healthy. It's wonderful to see a place working hard to care for people, community and planet. I love that they source from local farmers. We ended our fabulous meal with the local, fresh peach parfait with cashew cream (LOVE) and the shortbread cookie. It you're in the area through August, you'll want to try this seasonal delight. Definitely a must-try for anyone near Seattle!

I'm not one to like vegan food, I always thought it was bland and untasteful. Then i had the pesto melt from here. Now that is a sandwich I can crave from time to time. Not to mention it's a lot of food, and I didn't get a food coma after. Must be the lack of meat.

I met some friends here as they were visiting from Vancouver and they picked Chaco Canyon as the spot to meet. My friend misspelled the place and called it 'choco canyon' so I immediately thought of chocolate cake and MarioKart (the choco mountain map! I always killed at that map!). When I found out it was a vegan place I wasn't sure what to expect, as I have never been to a vegan restaurant. I really like veggies and interesting foods but I just wasn't sure what I was in for. When we got there it was really busy and REALLY hot inside! There is a little sign that has a checklist of all the things they do to save energy and be 'green' such as using denim as insulation. I am probably going to do that in my house since the place was so hot! I ended up ordering a sparkling pear wine and my bf got a triple berry smoothie and we got an order of french toast to split as I am a sucker for breakfast food.As other people mentioned the service was a leeeetle slow. It took a good amount of time to even place an order, and it took a little long to get our food as well, but not so long that it was an issue. Both the wine and the french toast were delicious! I also tried my friend's red lentil soup (which was of a thick consistency more like a porridge) and it was sososo good! Her boyfriend had ordered the thai peanut bowl and I tried that as well and it was delicious too! Overall I had a really good experience here, it was a little pricey but I figured it would be since vegan ingredients are more expensive to begin with. Definitely recommend this place!

Egyptian red lentil soup is perfect. This one dish is so perfect that combined with great staff and great casual atmosphere, I don't hesitate to give the entire place 5 stars even though I'm not a big raw foods eater.

I mean...I am not sure if I can qualify myself as a 'raw' food critique as I don't really eat it all that much HOWEVER I don't eat raw food that much because I like my taste buds to explode and that's exactly what happened when I ate the enchiladas! I'm still shocked that my dish was completely raw; raw tom tortilla, cashew cheese and other veggies! I can't wait to have it again...$14.50 w/tax(a wee-bit pricey but WELL worth it!) And the coffee and teas and customer service were also great!

OK - I wasn't the happiest camper last time, but I do appreciate a nurturing, healthy meal. This time, they got ALL of it right! I decided to try the Sea Goddess Sandwich as well as the Artichoke Melt (with gluten-free bread). Their gluten-free bread is made in-house, and if you get it toasted, it is INSANELY good, and it also holds up very, very well to a messy sandwich. The Artichoke Melt is great - it's like a light "artichoke dip" with lots of sprouts and cucumber - delish. The Sea Goddess was filling, but a little odd since the "bread" is made of flax seeds, so it has that silky/nutty/oily texture, but it's very filling and you can feel yourself getting healthier just eating it. A nice Carribean/Curry style kambocha squash soup went gorgeously with their kale-apple-walnut-raisin salad. The nuts are good with the soup. Had a coconut milk chai and a frosted gingerbread cookie, too - fantastic. Nice atmosphere, friendly(er) staff this time, and not too long of a wait. Very impressed.

Our family absolutely LOVE this place. Great laid back atmosphere with excellent food. Especially great place for vegans/vegetarians/gluten free folks looking for a fabulous meal out. I really have nothing bad to say about this place. They are extremely environmentally conscious going way beyond the "oh we have eco cups so we're eco friendly" crap that other companies try to pull. The juices are extremely tasty and the gluten free bread is just right. Overall, I feel great and at home when I go into this place and I feel even better leaving after I have nourished my body with organic, clean food. *They are also certified organic. That alone gives them an A+ in my book.

Excellent vegetarian food and drinks! And I'm not even a vegetarian! Notable items: -Serve Stumptown coffee -Rice/Quinoa bowls are huge and outstanding. Try with hot sauce. -Peanut butter shake is delicious and creamy -Lots of seating/parking for the U district -Friendly hippyish staff -A bit pricey, but hey, my body feels great after I eat here

Finally...after about four years, I've broken free from the grips of the lentil burger and tried other items on the menu. I do still eat the lentil burger quite often but have tried the split pea soup, raw vegan enchilladas, the sea goddess sandwich, their raw vegan brownie, their raw vegan chocolate raspberry cheesecake and let me tell you...they ALL are to die for. wtf chaco canyon, you have no consideration for how broke I'll be now that I know other things besides the lentil burger are just as delicious! SO good..I don't even know how I'm going to restrain myself from eating here every day...my wallet is so scared right now.

As a vegetarian, its a glorious thing to be able to go to a restaurant/cafe and be able to order anything on the menu, but even better when it ALL tastes good! Went here with a friend, and loved my avocado sandwich, and she adored her artichoke sandwich. We both got the zen juice (apple, orange, spinach, mint) and I can't stop thinking about that juice. Its going to turn me into a juice junkie, which is bad, because that could get pricey. Love their variety, nice atmosphere, although tables can be scarce if you go during a busy time. But I'll definitely be going back.

I was excited to try Chaco Canyon tonight for the first time. I had the large 16 oz. Green Goddess juice, which was good. Parsley is not my favorite aftertaste so I need to be careful in which juices I choose in the future with that green. I also tried the cilantro basil pizza, which was seriously disappointing. I had a raw pizza over at Thrive about a month ago and it was absolutely amazing, it was like a small personal pan pizza with a nice thick, hard crust for the same price as Chaco Canyon's. So when my Chaco Canyon "pizza" came out as four little thin-crusted triangles with some red and green pastes on them with a tiny amount of white stuff and a very small side salad for the same price as my awesome pizza at Thrive I felt totally ripped off! Perhaps I didn't read the description right about what it was going to be like so maybe it was my own fault. But that ain't no pizza served at Chaco Canyon!! Regardless, it tasted good but I would never, ever, ever order it again. My friend and I went there for dinner and that was the most sorry dinner I've ever had at a raw vegan place for $23 (including tip) for just me. I remember this old vegan restaurant around this area from the mid- to late 90's called "Good Morning, Healing Earth" where I used to get stuffed on their $5 meal which included a huge salad, big bowl of soup, entree and sprouted bread. I forget when that man died but that was some good vegan grub...very helpful for the student crowd. Far cry from $23 meal (including tip) I had tonight where I was so hungry as we were walking out the door. I'm really glad there's a place like Chaco Canyon in the U District and West Seattle. Maybe I chose the wrong items for dinner and maybe there are some totally incredible menu items yet to be tried. I will be happy to update my review in the future should I venture there again.

There has only been one vegetarian/ vegan restaurant that really did it for me, and Chaco isn't it. But what I did love about it is the fact that everything is eco and nutritionally responsible. Alex had the sour dough Belgium waffle, while I had the spinach and mushroom quiche, I have to say that was quite wonderful, but I did not really dig the cold quinoa salad. The portions were small, I left hungry, but my otherwise sensitive tummy did not revolt. I would probably go there again if I am in the neighborhood, but not gonna go there as a destination (which is what Alex and I did today on account of my unhappy tummy).

I used to live right next door to this place, so it was very tempting to go there even though it's terrible. Admittedly, I'm not an expert on vegan/organic food, but I have had very good experiences with them at other places. The sandwiches I've gotten here are awful and overpriced. Both times I've tried food here, I was unable to finish it.

For the record, let me begin by saying that in most ways, I loved loved loved! Chaco Canyon. I made big efforts to hunt down a vegan/juicing business in Seattle, and this place seemed like it hit the nail right on the head. Vegan? Check. Environmentally conscious? Check. Near my hotel? Check. Amazing juices? Double check. Great Yelp reviews? Check! I visited Chaco Canyon 4 times in about 4 days, coming in for a little bit of everything they had to offer. I drank many 7003's, which is a juice mix of apple, orange, carrot and ginger. SO delicious and fresh, and made for a great start to my day. And the banana-nut muffins they have here? I'll be on a mission to figure out their recipe because they were absolute perfection to me. For dinner one night, I had The Hippie Bowl, a hearty mix of quinoa, tofu, sprouts, garlic tahini, among other things. Sadly, this is where things went wrong. Starving this particular evening, I went in almost ravenous for something healthy that would fill my belly. Starving. So when I got this huge bowl of grains, I dug right in. A bite into my meal, there was an annoying fruit fly hovering over my bowl. I swatted him away. And then he came back. With friends. And they wouldn't leave! There was literally 5 flies or so over my bowl and no matter what I did, they just came straight back, flying around for 15 minutes. I saw a waitress bring food out to another couple sitting behind me, and there again were the flies, hovering over THEIR food as she walked to the table. At some point, I got really grossed out, lost my appetite and got my meal to go. But I kept wondering if any flies made it into my food...ew Ugh, gross. Granted, these lovely people don't believe in more waste via plastic utensils, so they said I could go ahead and take their metal fork with me. How cool is that? I cook with a lot of vegetables, I juice, and I know how hard it is to keep fruit flies away once they've started. They're horrible! But in a restaurant, it's pretty disgusting. They really need to do something about this, be more diligent with disposal, cleaning, etc. Make traps, SOMETHING. It's a big distraction, really gross, and I think few people don't mind the flies. While the food is great, fruit flies don't make for a great experience. Until this has been resolved, opt to get your food to go!

I visited Chaco Canyon several times while I was in town on vacation. The location, food quality and restaurant ambience were all very nice. However; on my last day I was unpleasantly met with poor customer service that included an upcharge on an item that was not stated on the menu (with no apology or attempt to correct from the cashier) as well as a very open argument and tension between several staff behind the counter; fueled by a heavyset blond woman who appeared to be making everyone tense and nervous. The lack of professionalism was tacky for a restaurant that advertises itself as conscious, earth-friendly and charges almost $12 for a french toast...

I have been coming to Chaco for the past few years for lunch during my work day. I'm so grateful that in between corner stores and pizza places, there is a friendly place with healthy food I am able to eat at during the week. Plus, they carry these bottled teas by Yerba Mate that I love and I'm not able to find generally outside of Co-ops and Whole Food stores. Besides the food being incredibly delicious (whether you have dietary restrictions or not) the staff is EXCEEDINGLY friendly. Today I stopped by to pick up a to go order during my break and unfortunately there was some sort of miscommunication in the kitchen and no one was able to call me to let me know they were out of the sauce for the dish, so my order hadn't been made. The cashier at the front was extremely apologetic and said they'd rush to make me something different, but unfortunately I had to head back to work. About twenty minutes later, a Chaco employee came to my work place with a rice bowl entree and two cookies FREE OF CHARGE just as an apology for not being able to fill my order! Like I said, whether you're vegan, vegetarian, a carnivore or someone who doesn't even think about these sort of things, Chaco Canyon has excellent food and ridiculously great service.

I can't give them fewer than 4 stars because the artichoke melt is so very delicious. I don't even know what cashew cheese is, but I am now a fan. The service sometimes leaves something to be desired. I've waited at the counter for five minutes without being acknowledged. It gets lots of light due to the giant windows, which is great unless it's a rare hot day in Seattle. I don't recommend it at lunchtime on a hot day because the heat gets stifling.

I need to learn how to control myself at Chaco Canyon. I have 4 or 5 go-to items and always want to get ALL of them when I go!! I have very frequent cravings for the Lentil Burger (it's amazing -- the panino roll and special sauce -- YUM), and the Raw Hazelnut Oat Porridge is such an awesome and filling breakfast. Their smoothies are the best I've had in Seattle. Blue Green Blast is where it's at. The drip coffee is perfect, and they have a great selection of desserts. Raw and gluten-free customers with a craving for something sweet will be pleased. Frequent visitors -- don't forget that they have a stamp card for drinks! :)

For an all Vegan cafe its pretty outstanding! You can get alot of great things to eat : Raw food, AH-Mazing 'cheesy' sandwiches, raw smoothies, tofu scrambles, and some really amazing vegan desserts: Raspberry rice pudding!! The cafe itself is nice and large, world fusion music is usually playing in the background. Service has always been great! Like everyone else before me, yes its much pricier for the smaller portions. Still I think this place is worthy of an occasional indulgence for some feelgood food.

I have only had a chance to try Chaco Canyon Organic once, so this review is based on one visit only. I have been wanting to try it for a long time. They claim to be 90-97% organic, which says a lot to me. They even had local, organic hand soap in the bathroom! Although my experience wasn't perfect, I definitely want to go back as I really dig the type of food they serve here. Orders are taken at the front counter and the food is then delivered to the table. Most items were around $12, with the exception of the half bowls which were around $6. I ordered a bowl special that they had. It was a pumpkin cashew sauce on top of fresh spinach, matchstick carrots, marinated mushrooms, caramelized onions, and topped with toasted hazelnuts. I chose brown rice for on the bottom (you have the option of that or quinoa). I also ordered the 10 oz. Elvis shake-peanut butter, banana, and organic milk (you could chose other non dairy options). Next, there is a station to grab silverware, napkins, and water. This is also where you put your trash and plate when My food arrived lightening fast. My fork was old and cheap and was cutting into my hand. I felt bad but stuck it in the dirty bin an fished out another that didn't come from the dollar store. One other negative I have to say was the brown rice. I kept getting uncooked pieces of rice that were hard and inedible. I make brown rice all the time, and it's easy, so not sure why there were so many uncooked grains in mine. Overall the food was good and portions were large. I really enjoyed the marinated mushrooms in my bowl, and the pumpkin cashew sauce tasted almost like a curry. The Elvis PB banana shake was the perfect size and was delicious. I was happy knowing that i had filled my body with a healthy lunch. I also enjoy patronizing a place that has a conscious, not only about the food it serves, but about the ecologically responsible!

Perfect place for quality, organic and consciously prepared food. The server I spoke to was friendly and warm and able to elaborate on any questions I had. I ordered a build-your-own-bowl with tofu, steamed greens and quinoa as well as an order of curry soup. Both were so tasty and filling. I felt healthy and satisfied after eating. The cafe itself is something worth exploring. In the hallways leading towards the bathroom there's a map you can put a pin in to show where you're from, as well as a menu signed by Woody Harrelson. I liked how you could see into the kitchen and watch in anticipation to see if your meal is getting prepared. There's also a few shelves of awesome food items and trinkets you can buy like organic soup mixes, rawnola, mason jars and shirts. I really appreciate the chalkboards onthe walls that explain why organic is best and what Chaco Canyon does to keep sustainable. This place is rad.

Anyone fallen out of love with your New Year's resolution and looking for a new one? If so, I recommend going to Chaco Canyon. You must go because they are one of the only restaurants in the nation to be certified organic AND they serve raw vegan cuisine. How awesome is that? At the same time I have to warn you that they have some of the worst tasting raw food you might ever experience outside of a few failures in your own kitchen. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they have some cooked foods that aren't too bad, and their sweets might even taste great *it's hard to go wrong with sugar*, but their raw entrées are remarkably bad. Ill-flavored. I don't know what it is. I don't even understand how to make food taste "in that way". Strange. I like the idea so much I've continued to go, always hopeful to find that elusive tasty something on their menu. Raw enchiladas, raw pesto noodles, The Hippie Bowl. The last time I was there I felt my stomach rumbling half-way through my raw avocado sandwich and had to stop, as if my body was rejecting their negligent attempt at any kind of edible pleasure. If they would devote as much time and fervour into preparing tasty food as they do with matters of the earth and local community, this place would be health-food heaven! ... No matter. Go. Go to support your ideals. Ideals! Ideals! Brought me back three times, but I'm afraid it will take more than ideals to substantiate hunger.

Yum. This place is great if you want to pick up something healthy and quick. I think they have a nice selection of food, and can accommodate those with food allergies. I have been there several times, and have tried different things each time, I haven't been disappointed with anything yet! It's a go!

Okay, my wife wanted to take me here. I looked online at the menu and told her this statement: "It just doesn't sound exciting to me when the first thing I see on the menu is a Lentil burger dish...blah." Open mouth, insert foot. This place is good. Crowded, but good. The food portions are PLENTY big and will fill you up quickly. Service was nice and the smoothies, oh the smoothies. Kids had the banana bread with chocolate chips...they loved it (of course). Wife ordered the thai peanut bowl. This was very good and filling. The sauce was spicy but very reasonable spice. I fely perhaps maybe one too many handfuls of spinach, but then realized it is a good healthy balance to the rice and helps fill you up. Smoothies - we had 2: Chocolate Cherry and Choco-Maca. Both were superb. Frankly when I go back I'll be getting the Cherry one...it just had that added natural sweetness to it. The small size is good, but if you are really craving the smoothie, don't be shy by the larger size. Oh and what did I order? Yep, the Lentil burger ;-)

i'm no vegetarian, but i love a good healthy meal. casual, coffee-shop ambiance, order up in front, they serve you, and bus your own table. came here for dinner and had the: - Egyptian red lentil soup: i love lentil soup... this one is good! savory with blended, but chunky lentils. - THC: fake bacon (it doesn't taste like bacon), but the sandwich as a whole was tasty and filled my appetite, while pleasing the taste buds. the garlic hummus was where it was at! they make all sorts of juices and smoothies where you can get your full serving of veggies in a sweet drink, while not tasting disgusting. i'd go back for more! :)

Holy crap, this place is amazing! I had low expectations; the menu looked to be just a tad on the pricey side, and I know how hard it is to mix healthy, vegan, and raw. But I figured I'd rather spend my money at a sustainable healthy place than some other junk garage, and the atmosphere was nice, so we gave it a shot. SO glad we did! The coffee was so smooth that I didn't even need creamer, everything was delicious, and I felt damn good afterwards! I had the raw enchilada, my mother had the lentil burger, and my sister had the vegan turkey burger, and we were all blown away by the flavor and quality. Even the simple salads were wonderful. It's so hard to find good raw vegan food, I rarely bother to look for it, but my god, this food is divine. The employees were also really friendly and interested in their work, which sealed the deal for me. This is now my favorite eatery in Seattle!

I like what they stand for, and the food is pretty healthy. The staff always seem busy and running around, so it's a little chaotic and impersonal though. Customer experience is not really important here. They do like to toot their own horn and pat themselves on the back for the things they do at this restaurant. I don't know how I feel about this. As a vegan I do get turned off by other vegans who want to be put on a pedestal and praised for what they do and don't do. The food here is pretty pricey, but it's organic. I wouldn't mind, except YES THE PORTIONS ARE SMALL. Compared to Wayward or Pizza Pi especially. I was shocked how small the shepherds pie and lentil burger were. They tasted fine, there just wasn't enough of them. The soup is TINY. It would be better if you got soup in a bowl instead of a cup sized bowl. A side salad plus soup would be better. We got side soups as well, a chili and a potatoes based "unseafood" chowder. I have no idea why they pretend that is like a mock seafood chowder, it's just potatoes, dill and seaweed. It wasn't bad of course, but it could be better and it was watery and not a chowder. I got the house juice and I love raw juice and smoothies and make them all the time at home, but this had way too much ginger in it. I like ginger and it was too gingery. I think this is a shame. I wouldn't recommend it. It's not pleasant to drink and overpowering. I would like to return, but now I doubt that I would, because the food is just eh, good, not great and the portions are small. We can get good vegan food for much less and not be starving afterwards. I don't like having to buy an appy entree and dessert to get enough food at a vegan restaurant. I think they can offer a little more, by making the soups a little bigger, they are made from fairly cheap ingredients.

Finally, with intention, I made my way to Chaco Canyon to see what all the hype was about. I will say, the hype is somewhat warranted. The ambiance is nice- tables are fairly spaced out, walls are light yellow and a rusty red, and the windows all around make the space seem more inviting. On the acoustic end, whatever they are playing now is a little too loud, coupled with the general buzz of the kitchen and patrons, and it's not quite evoking the sense of calm I would have expected. There's far too much background noise to make this an ideal study environment. Service was stellar- I received my meal within a few minutes of sitting down. I got the thai rice bowl and I have to say, while tasty, it leaves a bit to be desired. I was worried about how filling it would be without tofu, and the guy at the cash register said the rice pretty much will fill you up. Yes, ok, that's true, but I don't want to pay $8 for rice and spinach. The sauce is delicious and I can only imagine how much more delicious this veggie rice bowl would be if I had more than cabbage and spinach. How about broccoli, snap peas, bell peppers, green beans, squash? There are so many veggies that could grace this dish! And add color. Onto the chocolate raspberry smoothie. I asked for soy milk instead of hemp. For what I paid, it's quite small, but it's delicious! The texture is thick and spoonable but you can drink it easily too. The cacao nibs pack a potent flavor and health punch, and that with the banana and raspberry coupling makes this drink seem too sinful to be healthy. I've gotta try replicate this at home. Overall- this is a fancy vegetarian health food experience, merely because of the price. So I couldn't come here frequently, however I'm already planning my next visit, as a reward after a solid work out, a chance to pig out and feel good about what's going into my body.

I can't get enough. I'm almost positive that the staff is tired of me bringing in my entire family to order the Flu Buster hot drink (a combo of ginger, garlic, cayenne, etc). The lentil burger...the chaco bowls...the RAW brownies!!! They're sugar free, and so delicious..I can't stop eating them, and am afraid they're going to begin growing out my side. Next up, I'm going for a home kombucha starter kit--time to stop buying a GT a day...

YUhh-UM! I've heard a lot about this place over the years and I went for lunch w my friend. We went all out. We both had juices, we shared a salad and I had the black bean burger. Freakin' awesome, and I'm a carnivore. My friend had the non-tuna melt. That was...interesting. I was stoked on my choice and she liked hers. We both had dessert. She had a gluten free choc chip cookie, I had the kick a$$ peanut butter pie. I shall be back, this place was awesome!

Best kombucha ever. I had the fennel lime the other day - kaboom! I'm all about the small hippie bowl with a 16 oz kombucha. Price = $16, which is a little expensive but it is a place worth supporting.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in all of Seattle! The menu options are incredibly delicious and I'm all for their raw meals! Each of the raw sammie's I have tried have been AMAZING and never cease to wake my taste buds! The raw enchiladas are to die for - I don't know how they do it here with such incredible flavors but I am trying so hard to bring some of the dishes home and make them myself. Honestly though, these chefs know what they are doing and the prices are completely reasonable! My husband and I have been here about 5 times and have always paid less than $30 total. I recommend this place to anyone that wants REAL food and wants to feel amazing inside when they leave! Love you, Chaco Canyon!

A short and sweet review.. Don't go on a hot day, no a/c and it was very uncomfortable. I had the hippie bowl and it was really good, my husband had the mofo and although tasty it was way too much bread and sprouts, small amount of seitan for the price. I think for the amount of business they do (it was PACKED) they need to come up with a new solution for ordering. I would recommend a separate juice/smoothie/coffee line to speed it up. Not a quick process if you are on a time constraint. BUT...as a vegan I'm pretty much happy with any organic/no meat or dairy establishments. Food was fresh and not greasy. I understand the price of organic food is more but still thought the cost was a bit high.

I guess I could be a vegan in another life. The quiche was amazing, and since the first one fell apart in the oven, the enthusiastic staff offered a second quiche to our table to make up for the infraction, on their own volition. Friendly crowd, good food, stumptown coffee.

Great food even is you are not a vegan or vegetarian! Love the Lentil Burger and the Kelp Noodles ( I know it sounds odd, but they have great crunch and taste great. Also love their Choco Cherry Smoothie!. Great healthy food that is not boring or blah. I highly recommend them!

Wow. I thought I had written a review of this one ages ago. I just love it being there. The place was created with a community vibe and it is almost tangible. The design, the product selection, etc. It's great, whether there to get some work done on or visit with friends. If you are offended by people plugging away at laptops in cafes, you might not like it here in the middle of the afternoon. I've had plenty of things when it comes to the food menu and have not been disappointed. That said, I do not yet have a standby favorite. I'll have to visit more. I never end up ordering chai in most places because I always prefer espresso... but they make a drink called the dirty hippy that is an espresso shot in a chai tea with any milk-alternative. It is a good treat. I always make sure a trip to Seattle includes a trip here. Love it.

Though the food can seem over-priced considering the portions, I always leave feeling healthier than when I came in. How many restaurants can you say that about? The smoothies are amazing - the Chocolate Cherry and Really Green are my favorites. In case you don't want to feel too healthy - this place also makes the best cookies in the city. The cowboy cookie and the hazelnut chocolate chip are perfection. My one request - set up shop somewhere with a drive through window. I always seem to crave your smoothies when one or both kids are sleeping in the back seat. It would be amazing to have a healthy drive through option in Seattle and I am sure it would do well!

Pro vegan, Pro raw....organic...tasty. out of the vegan friendly restaurants that i have been to, this one seems to be a bit more health concious then the average bear. they have fresh juices, including shots of wheat grass, and smoothies. they have grain bowls, sandwiches(with gluten free options), soups, salads, raw food, breakfast(with some all day options)....they have thought through their menu well. the coffee is strong and tasty and the food is tasty. delightful place.

Came for homemade chai with homemade hemp milk...DELICIOUS! Also, did a 2oz. wheat grass shot (just what we needed). Excited to eat here soon. The staff are friendly, love the pot plants through out the cafe and the menu looks stella. A heathy haven in this city. Much appreciated!

Raw enchiladas! RAW ENCHILADAS! I am not even a raw food kind of person, but my curiosity got the better of me and I had to know how in the world such a thing could exist. Oh man. It was tasty enough that I didn't even whine about it being $14 and I cleaned my whole damn plate. The hippie bowl was less amazing but still pretty tasty. And I have no idea how good the lavender cheesecake was because some jerk ganked the last slice before I finished my dinner. But I bet it was tasty.

Yea buddy! Thanks to a recommendation from my boss, we ended up here. Seattle has no shortage of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants (one of many reasons I love it there), and this is the place to go if you want healthy, light, nourishing fare. The guy at the counter was really friendly and warm. My Artichoke Melt was AH-MAZING, with a big ass side salad. My dude's Lentil Burger was delicious as well. The only two things I wasn't thrilled about were that they didn't tell us up front that they were out of the beers we ordered, but they did offer us wine instead. And the girl who brought our food out seemed pissed about being there. But honestly, minor details. I want to try everything on this place's menu.

I've eaten her twice and both times, the food was good. The first time I had the falafel and while it tasted nothing like falafel (as I don't think they deep fry it, as falafel balls are ways prepared) it was good. The second time, I had a panini and it was good, as well. A few bites of my friend's rice bowl proved to be good, too....a little bland as others have mentioned in other reviews, but good. I do think prices are a bit high but I appreciate that most of the menu is organic, they have several gluten-free options, their take-out containers are GMO free, they compost and are trying to be a "green" business....but the armpit hair has got to go. On a recent summer visit, I noticed that all the workers were wearing food handler's gloves when assembling food. I'm grateful for that. HOWEVER, on the night we were last in, every worker in the place (at least 6 ppl on duty...all visible as the kitchen is fully visible from the front counter/register) were wearing sleeveless shirts. One was wearing something that barely qualified as a shirt. It was one of those tank tops with huge arm holes and tied together in the back, the type meant to be worn over another tank or a swim suit. Well, that night, one worker was wearing just that and her little, lace, beige stretch bra over her tiny boobs that everyone in the restaurant had a clear view of. Never thought I'd have such detailed knowledge of the bra or boobs of the person assembling my dinner, but seeing as she was just wearing that and a swim suit cover up, I had more information than I wanted. Also, within plain view was her copious amounts of armpit hair. I looked around and saw that every person on staff (1 guy and 5 young women if memory serves) was sporting armpit hair along with their sleeveless shirts. This is insane. Why require food handler's gloves but not sleeves to protect my dinner from your employees' pit hair? I know this is the U-District and you young ladies are fond of tattoos and face piercings (seems to be standard issue in an organic cafe) and are likely Women's Studies majors and all that's great. Yes, you have a right to grow your pit hair long enough to be braided, but I have a right to not have it in my food. Management, you need to enforce a dress code for your male and female workers.....a bra and swim suit cover up with giant arm holes is not suitable work attire...anywhere, let alone a restaurant. Also, all armpit hair (male or female) needs to be covered with sleeves...or how about those smaller hairnets that Costco food court workers need to wear over their beards. I won't be back until I see a policy enforced on this. BTW, the restaurant itself feels like it needs a thorough cleaning, so it's not like the U-District location seems to be the epitome of cleanliness to begin with. Update...went to the West Seattle Chaco Canyon last weekend and found the experience far superior to that of the U-District location. The woman on the register comp'ed my $5 smoothie b/c of a minor point of confusion at the register, which was a lovely and unnecessary gesture that was much appreciated, and happily there was no armpit hair in sight. This location feels a lot cleaner than the U-District location which looks and feels like the tables are never wiped down and the place tidied up during the course of the day. Again, prices are not cheap but when I want to splurge on a quick, organic meal out, I will visit the West Seattle location again and stay clear of the closer U District location.

Vegan cooking can be delicious. But maybe sometimes, attempts to make non-vegan items vegan should not happen. Case in point - Chaco Canyon's "vegan grilled cheese sandwich". Aside from going for $6.90, the Chaco sandwich really tastes horrid. What you get is two dried-out squished-down pieces of bread with a thin orange smear of "something" between the slices. (The yummy REAL grilled cheese sandwiches at Grilled Cheese Grill on NE Alberta in P-Town, going for $4.50, seem an absolute steal in comparison!) On the other hand, JP's salad greens had an extremely delicious dressing. The lime hummus that came with his salad was excellent as well. My lentil soup was bursting with flavor and had a pleasing texture. So we will be back.

I like meat. So when my friend asked if I'd like to go to Chaco Canyon for lunch, I was skeptical. I think my response was, "You mean that vegan place, really?" Well, I ended up eating my words... and lots of delicious food! Turns out that Chaco Canyon serves only organic and vegetarian food. Some of the food is vegan, and they have nifty little logos by each dish to help identify the ingredients (gluten free, soy free, etc). Here is what we shared: -Pesto Melt Sandwich. Basically a veggie panini with sprouts and cucumber. The pesto was made with cilantro and pumpkin seed, which was very flavorful. -Hippie Bowl. My favorite! This was a bowl of quinoa with shredded carrots, tofu, and sprouts. The garlic tahini sauce was amazing! I will be back for this one for sure! -Basil Summer Soup. Tasty and refreshing! Now maybe I will give vegetarian restaurants a chance. :)

They're just awesome. Super-sweet people, great menu, yummy foods and drinks! Try the Elvis smoothie with cacao and hemp milk. This place is perfect for health food nuts and pure sinners :-) I like that they also support other health food places like Thrive and Jodee's. Nice sense of community! Sometimes the wait is unusual, but in the spirit of honoring your food experience, waiting for it can be interpreted as a spiritual learning moment. Overall, hell yea, I'm going back there!

Love this place! I've been here many times and tried several of what they have to offer and have never been disappointed. When I'm feeling cheap, I get the peanut sauce bowl, which fills me up plenty and is yummy! Other favorites include: the very green smoothie (doesn't taste leafy at all), the spelt zucchini muffins, the pesto melt, and the tofu scramble sandwich. They have "Happy Hour" at 4PM in which they halve the prices of their baked goods and drop prices on some of their other tasty items, including smoothies. Give it a try!

Are you kidding me?! This place can't be real! I'm dreaming! The owner of this place should be deemed culinary champion of Seattle. Good god it's delicious! The tofu scramble sandwich has forever ruined any other breakfast sandwich for me. If you haven't figured it out, yes, I'm a fan!

Let me start with the fact that I was absolutely sure I'd dislike this place (self-professed carnivore to the core), but my friend suggested this as a meetup spot for lunch last week, so I obliged. Hey, I'm a trooper and I'll try anything once, even if I might dislike it! We were there for a late lunch (1:30ish), and the place was packed, but even with UW students camped out studying, tables seemed to free up pretty quickly, or at least friendly folks are willing to share their table with ya. I ordered the avocado melt, side salad, and a 16oz green cleanse juice (figured the bod could use a good dose of it). As for the sandwich, what I thought would be bland and cardboard-like in nature, was absolutely delicious! Side salad was also very good although I somewhat lamented some good ol' fries as the accompaniment to my sandwich, and the green cleanse was tasty, and definitely true to the "cleanse" part of its name, if you catch my drift. ;) I was pleasantly satisfied after my meal, and although I don't ever plan going vegan, this spot is definitely on the list to frequent again. In fact, my husband and I plan to hit this place up tonight after work!

Honestly not a fan of this place. Maybe it's because im not vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free, but all I know was that my experience here was not enjoyable. You order at the counter, and the service is weird. The people behind the counter are literally fighting about who is better at ashtanga yoga and making kombucha. It took about 4 minutes for them to finally break it up and take my order. I ordered the "Tuna-Less Sandwich". Being a tuna fan, I wanted to taste a tuna sandwich without the tuna. My food was brought in a reasonable time of about 15 minutes, and my sandwich was not as expected. First off, it was on a cracker, making it not so easy to eat. Instead of tuna, they used tuna cream. I don't know about you, but if I have tuna, it needs to be the real deal. Not some stylish puree. For dessert, we had their raspberry cupcake, which was fantastic, that alone brought my review up from a 1 star to a 2 star. Gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan? Then you will probably like this place, but I didn't.

Most of the food I've had here has been really good -- tasty and filling but not too heavy. I love the pesto melt, the lentil burger, the waffles and the French toast. I'm generally not a huge fan of raw foods so I tend to stay away from that section of the menu. And the baked goods I've tried have been a bit hit or miss. Overall, I think this place is great to have around and I like to stop in for brunch or a quick lunch when it's convenient.

To begin with, the place looks so comfy and earthy, I really love the feel of it. The workers are also so generous and kind, I feel like I should be serving them! Before I even ate anything, I loved how much they cared for the environment by not only serving delicious vegan and organic food (that everyone can enjoy, vegan or not), but also using a low-flow toilet, recycled TP, and biodegradable soap- not that's putting a little care into it! Now- the food! Every single smoothie and juice on their menu is TO DIE FOR. I've tried them all! I literally have dreams about their hot echinacea ginger juice. They make a mean samosa pocket and tofu scramble, as well. I really just love everything about the place. OH! And the raw-raspberry bar is the best thing I think I've ever tasted in my entire life!!

There are a couple of things wrong with Chaco Canyon. Let's be methodical about this. Things that are wrong: 1) The price 2) The portions 3) The taste 1) and 2) are two sides to the same coin; the portions do not justify the prices. I got the tofu scramble sandwich while my friend got a 10 oz juice and the cilantro pesto bowl. Everything was tiny. Like I'm pretty sure that the cup that my friend got was not 10 ounces. 10 ounces = 1.25 cups, and I would be mightily surprised if the cup held even 1 cup of liquid. His "bowl" was about the size of a side salad, and my sandwich was miniscule. I understand the idea that people should eat smaller portions and you can eat less good, organic food and be healthy, but you've got to be kidding me if you're charging $10+ for a handful of spinach with some miscellaneous vegetables and sauce, and it's not even a sit-down restaurant. Also, vegetables don't really have calories, so in general, as a vegan, you have to eat much more than an omnivore, so the portions become doubly problematic. Anyway, this is more of a distraction from the main problem: THE FOOD DOESN'T TASTE GOOD. Ugh, I get so annoyed when food that I get at a restaurant is worse than food I could make myself, and I get doubly annoyed when a vegan place serves bad food, because then it just creates a bad name for veganism. How can you expect people to become vegan when you serve them food that has no flavor? Or just blah flavors? My tofu scramble sandwich lacked any sort of interesting flavor (e.g. salt), and my friend's bowl had a flavor, but it just wasn't very good. Just because the food is vegan doesn't mean it can't taste good. Good thing Full Tilt is a block away. After our disappointing meal, we got a vegan sundae, which a) tasted good and b) was reasonably priced.

This is just what I think of,when I think of Seattle food. Choices: Organic, raw, vegan, coffee, and flat out good. I love so many things about Chaco that it's hard to capture all of it in a Yelp review. The sense of community resembles that of a coffee shop. Yet, the food choices (and quality of selected food) reminds me of a small-town local lunch stop. Then on another hand, the variety - in terms of baked goods, coffee, lunch choices, etc. - reminds me of a very small scale whole foods (obviously only selling food). I love this unique blend of familiar sentiments. The food - it's good. Very good. I enjoyed the quinoa soup of the day, and a small salad. The flavors and quality of foods are both very good. The prices, a little steep but WAY worth it. My meal was light and refreshing, yet filling and hearty. Could you ask for much more? The service - it was great. I had a few questions for the folks behind the counter and they were wonderful. Also, their commitment to the environment, as a whole, is inspiring and should be noted. I'm sure I will be back to Chaco a couple of times before summer fully blooms, and I know that I will be able to count on a delicious, sustainable, and healthy meal. This is real food, folks!

I REALLY wanted to give this place 5 stars. But, as many other yelpers have communicated here, it is the lack of customer service that brings this place down. Does the staff simply not care about their patrons OR do they treat me differently because my sweater is cashmere and not hemp fiber/organic cotton? PROS: 1. The actual store has a very nice vibe. Decent seating areas, relaxing lighting, and a very organic natural color scheme. Lots of people using WIFI on their laptops. Other customer seem welcoming. 2. Exudes culture of natural health Low flush toilets (that function well), no trash (they compost whenever possible), partnerships with other natural health organizations, etc. 3. QUALITY and CONTENT of Food is NUTRIENT-DENSE! Cafe's like this are the ideal location for a man like me who is passionate about the life giving properties of nutrients. The food/smoothie/juice options are life-promoting such that you can burn fat, get energy, and prevent chronic illness. 4. In-House Kombucha is allstar! Kombucha, which is a fermented probiotic antioxidant beverage, is fresh and delicious. Served cold in a metal cup, it is definitely some of the best kombucha I have had. CONS: 1. Customer Service I am a pleasant person. I also work in customer service. I give genuine smiles. At least half of the people working today seem to have forgotten how to smile, and seem to be grumpy even. One female worker brought the BLUE-GREEN smoothie I ordered and SLAMMED IT DOWN on the table as she whisked away. WTF? Seriously? I was dumbfounded to receive such pitiful service. Is that the Energy that is being transfered into my food? SUMMARY: This place is All-Star for health and nutrient foods, smoothies, and juices. The nutrients here are powerful and healing. However, you can't expect much in terms of customer service unless maybe you are some sort of regular. It's disappointing that for a place with so many things that I am passionate about, it's simply that the appalling customer service which really brought my experience down.

Hands down the best place on earth to eat. I am tortured by these people each time they send me an e-mail at my home in Portland OR. (Just kidding...I don't want them to stop sending them). We get up Seattle way a few times a year and head straight for Chaco Canyon every single time (often 2 or 3 times if we are there for a few days.) Gotta get our fill before the next big Chaco drought. We beg, beg I tell you, for Chaco to open a store in Portland but so far to no avail. Some day perhaps. We really need them here....bad. I mean really bad. A couple times a year is just not good enough for us. More...we need more. Don't let the organic vegan thing scare you away if chemical laden carnivorous is your thing. This is just good food and you will love it all anyway and feel better for it. Try the dal...one of my favorites.

I love Chaco Canyon! It's my favorite place for super healthy & oh-so-good-for you-foods! The staff is really friendly and patient; they take the time to answer ALL your questions. I love coming here for their fresh juices and guilt-free desserts - I always get a 16oz Grandma's Garden to go with my raw fudge brownie!!! Mmm Eating organic and healthy foods does NOT mean having to eat bland, rabbit food! Chaco Canyon does a great job of giving you flavorful, healthy food options! So, if you have food allergies (like myself), or are on a restricted diet, or just want to eat raw/live food because it's good for you, Chaco Canyon is YOUR place!

As Washington state's first certified organic cafe this place sources 95% of their ingredients from organic products & produce. They also have an ingredient list available upon request, they're not afraid to expose what they put into/leave out of their dishes! And that always earns major respect points when it comes to me. Beyond the cool ethics the place runs on, the dining room is massive, lots of nice tables. You order & they bring the food out to your table - you bus. I tried the lentil veggie burger with special sauce (read a thick vegan thousand island dressing). I loved it! The bun and burger were quite tasty, and the lentils made the burger look soo meat-like yet taste so oppositely wonderful! I loved the sauce that came on it - mainly because I really enjoy pickles (which, by the way, were also on the side of the sandwich!). I treated myself to a cup of coconut milk-based tomato soup. It was so delicious and tasted extremely fresh. I also ordered Elliott Bay Brewing's organic B-Town Brown beer. It was such a deal during HH for just $3 a pint. It went extremely well with the burger and soup. This is my new favorite restaurant in Seattle. And even though it's in the U-District I will make it special trips to try as many items on the menu as possible.

We love Chaco. It has become one of our favorite places and recently have been there several times a month. We really enjoyed the extended hours and now they have gluten free bread. When we were down on 3/19/11 in the evening we noticed one of the servers is in the habit of walking around with a dishrag/towel tucked dead center in the back of her low rise trousers. I assume she uses this to wipe tables and (yuck) food prep surfaces. This appeared to be right up against her body, and, ahem, near you know what. I think it would be considered inconsistent with safe food handling practices even though this may not be spelled out explicitly in the course for food handlers permit. I hope they consider instructing the staff to keep these items somewhere else, even if they are just part of the outfit. I love supporting a sustainable business like Chaco and hope I can go back someday. Unfortunately that has really put me off. It is also extremely noisy in there. The juicers run almost constantly. I think one ran for almost five minutes straight the other night. Kind of difficult to have a relaxing conversation. The place is starting to remind me of the Gravity Bar.

Absolutely terrific! We went for Sunday brunch. I got the tempeh bacon scramble with the maple chia pudding (kind of a weird consistency but that's typical of chia -- still tasted great), and my companion got the spinach quiche with potato pancakes. We were on a road trip so we also grabbed some baked good for the trip. Everything was great -- from the food to the ambiance to the friendly service. Even the patrons were smiling at each other, holding doors, etc. We left content and full of healthy goodness...but with a twinge of depression that there aren't more Chaco Canyon Cafés in the world.

I love this place! I usually get their grain bowls, but I've also tried some of their other raw/vegan specialties--the enchiladas were great! Despite other reviews, I always find the portions large enough. I usually have some to take home and eat later. Their fresh juice is delicious, and I love watching them make it. I wish there were more quality juice bars like this one around Seattle! Great go-to when I don't have time to make my own in the morning.

This is a great place to grab a bite to eat or a coffee/chai. The intoxicating smell of chai is reason alone to come inside and try something out--truly, the entire cafe smells like amazing cloves, etc. The juices are very fresh and delicious, with many tasty choices. They make the juices right in front of you so you can see the fresh ingredients that go in. It can take a decently long time to get your juice/food when they're busy, so that can be a downside. However, it's very enjoyable once you get your order, and I really like their mission to generate as little waste as possible and be completely sustainable. It's very laudable and worth supporting, plus they've got yummy treats to back it up.

I was not in a mood for seitan, tofu, or vegan cheeses, so I went with the hummus and cucumber sandwich and added avocado to it. The sandwich itself had hummus, avocado, sprouts, cucumber, and vegan mayo on it. It was really good and was exactly what I was looking for. The quinoa salad that accompanied my sandwich was very tasty too. Another thing to note is that CC is eco friendly to the extreme - they don't carry disposable silverware, instead the gave us a metal spoon and made us promise we'd return it, reuse it, or recycle it.

Great idea but its a little too awkward and fails to deliver. To begin, a cup of coffee is $2, from what I saw there were no refills, and the cream/sugar/etc. are all behind the counter for some reason. There were lots of little kids literally running around, and one section basically felt like a nursery with PlayMobile junk everywhere. I ordered a $9 sandwich that ended up being very small and didn't even come with side. Lame. They're also into the whole bus your own table deal, which is fine at a place like the Wayward where the food is pretty good, but this is nothing special. Someone with me ordered soup, and that was basically just salt. Weird location too.

I'm neither a vegetarian or into really organic stuff....but try the Thai peanut rice bowl. It's absolutely incredible. I took some photos for a review in UW's Daily, I'll add them. It's DEFINITELY worth it for the rice bowl with peanut sauce alone.

All year long I dream about eating breakfast at Chaco Canyon until my annual summer visit arrives. The raw hazelnut porridge takes me away to a fabled land/persona, some little nook and cranny in my mind where I am a young Scottish lass slurping my porridge in a field of sheep in the highlands. Ahhh, peace and comfort. Their artichoke melt, lattes, and desserts have always been great as well. Don't forget your greens--order the Green Goddess, it'll make you feel like one! Pee "green" before you leave, in what's voted Seattle's #1 green, sustainable, low-carbon footprint, etc., etc. restroom!

I can't sing enough praise about Chaco Canyon, it could easily be my favorite place to eat in Seattle. Everything they make is so full of flavor and satisfying, not to mention I know I'm being good to my body when I eat here. I have several favorites, the sesame ginger raw noodle bowl, the hippie bowl, artichoke melt, and ANY of their amazing smoothies (parricularly the raw chocolate cherry shake) come to mind, though I've been in love with everything I've ever ordered and even the pickiest pallets that I've brought to this restaurant have been happily appeased with their creative cookery. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very warm and inviting, I also appreciate their emphasis on building a community that upholds the values their restaurant stands for-a healthy environment and a healthy self. They go to great lengths to minimize their carbon footprint and I have learned some great tips to minimize my own in the process. I have one request for the owners of Chaco Canyon: PLEASE bring back the white wine miso soup with mushrooms. It haunts me to this day with it's deliciousness

I sort of felt like a poser or some kind of non-vegan spy when I waltzed into Chaco Canyon, and I was sure that at any moment my actions would betray me and I'd get yelled at by someone about my generally poor diet choices. Turns out that Chaco Canyon isn't cold-war Russia, though, and everyone was really nice and helpful. I had a delicious quiche--I asked what was in it, I just wanted to know if it was mushroom or spinach, but I got the full list of ingredients instead and wondered what kind of questions this poor guy normally gets about ingredients... I also had an amazing smoothie, the Elvis (peanut butter and banana), and I almost went back to ask if I could buy smoothies in gallon form.

Chaco Canyon is the BEST! I absolutely love coming here. They have a variety of tasty options for all kinds of eaters (yay for raw food!) so you can take your pick. The staff is very friendly/helpful and I love the seasonal changes on the menu. Plus, good coffee. Hands down though, my 3 top favorite items have to be: 1.The lentil burger with Salad 2.Maui Grass juice 3.Raw porridge A close favorite would be their hippie bowl :) There's little bit of everything for you and the list could go on and on. However, you should go check it out for yourself. I never feel guilty coming here because i know the food is delicious, good for me, and environmentally friendly. Thanks Chaco!

This is a winner in veggie cafe fare. The menu is diverse enough to please the uninitiated in the veggie, vegan and raw food culture. The house salad and lentil soup hit the spot on a cold and rainy evening. Our meal came out quickly and the place was clean, bright and appears to be devoid of durian fruit.

I wanted to love this place. Every time I drove by it seem to give off such a great vibe and seemed popular enough with the reviews on here, but my experience really was borderline offensive. The service and general lack of communication and the feeling of disorganization in the kitchen really did not work in their favor. I ordered the Hippie Bowl and a cup of Lentil Soup. Decent food, great, no problem, except it took a really long time. For some reason someone 5 spots behind us when ordering got their food before us. Ok, no big deal, it's the lunch rush, their food was probably easier to make. However, at this point, I hear the kitchen say, "we're out of Mushroom Soup," which happens to be what my brunch buddy ordered in addition to a Chili Dog. We glanced at each other wondering if we're going to have to change or cancel it. No one came to let us know. Funny thing is, 5 minutes later, we hear, "we don't have chili." We were about to get up and ask if we should change our order when suddenly, and quite confusingly, they came to delivered our food. Here's the fun part... To our bewilderment, "Mushroom Soup" turned into "Minestrone," also "Chili" looked and tasted exactly like the "Minestrone." REALLY? Did you really think we wouldn't notice? I was so perplexed by this outcome I didn't know how to react. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or get angry. I probably would have gone back many times, but really, the front and back really need to talk to each other to know what's still available on the menu. Also, it seems like they need to hire more people to keep up with the rush, that or find a more efficient way to deliver food, because the kitchen workers spend half of their time looking for the right delivery numbers on the table. Glah!

I was sort of hesitant about this place years ago, in all it's hippie raw veganness. Now as my nutrition and mind has opened to more variety I'm thrilled for Chaco Canyon! I love their cowboy cookie, Thai peanut bowl, smoothies, home made kombucha, artichoke melt and low key friendly staff. Very community oriented. Very high quality. great seasonal variety. Even the regular "i'll eat anything Joe" can find a few things they'll love. It's what happens with so much goodness.

Disclaimer: I'm am omnivore. However, there's many things Chaco does that I appreciate, including: (1) sourcing local, organic, (2) conscious effort to lessen environmental impact, (3) fresh-pressed juices, (4) grain-free options, and (5) small selection of kombucha, cider, organic beer and wine on tap. Ok, some things I'd love to see on the menu: (1) lacto-fermented vegetables, (2) less soy, (3) more coconut! yum

I love the food here, but the last three times I have been here I have had to wait over 30 minutes for just a smoothie. I tried to be nice about it today and ask about the wait time, but the counter staff were very unfriendly and were making food and drinks out of the order people came in. I finally just asked for a refund and walked out. If you have an hour to just wait around for a smoothie, this place is amazingly yummy, but I am not going to go again. I always leave annoyed due to the long wait and that is just not worth it.

Tasty...CHECK Affordable...CHECK Healthy...CHECK TAH dah, if I do say so. They accommodate my picky tastes perfectly, offering vegan, gluten free and raw options, all labeled well. The first night I had a seasonal special, a pumpkin bowl that included quinoa, carmelized onions, spinach and a cashew ginger pumpkin puree sauce. The "small" size was very ample. I also tried a cup of lentil soup, simple good and wholesome. My friend got the hippie bowl, which was good. (They offer a variety of "bowls" including your choice of brown rice or quinioa, and various vegetables, tofu, and/or legumes, and sauces.) I was compelled to return the next night and had the raw coconut curry. It was really more like a salad, and to be honest a tad disappointing because I couldn't really taste the coconut--it was more like a marinated salad really, very healthy, but will tire your jaw out as you chew on the kale. However the green juice was perfect and the raw chocolate brownie, more like a truffle really, decadent bliss, and you can feel good about it after eating all the veg! The smoothies from what I saw looked delicious. Also, most of their stuff is organic! And yet, the prices are really decent. This is a model to me of what more restaurants around the country should aspire to. I *so* wish there was something like this in Chicago.

I've never had anything here I didn't like or love! I come here usually at least once a week and everyone is always very kind and service is usually pretty quick. What a pleasant cafe to stumble upon. Not only is the food/drink delicious, but they also exist for far more than themselves. For example, one item the serve for just a suggested donation is the Community Bowl with all profits going to provide food for someone who can't afford the cost. I love how this place is actively seeking to care for the poor and inviting their customers to join in the effort. On top of this, they serve organic, fair trade products and seek to minimize their waste. (Among many many many other ways they seek to steward their resources well). But what about the FOOD? Fantastic!! Not only does this cafe have ethical conviction, but they also make great food! I stepped out on a limb and ordered the raw ginger sesame BOWL (with kelp noodles--weird!) and to my surprise, it proved wonderfully delicious! I would go out of my way to eat it again! Also, their home made CHAI is superb! (I ordered with coconut milk). Do yourself a favor and visit the CCO cafe!

Great, healthy food!!! All of their items are made with superfoods, vegetables, grains...etc. I felt great after eating this! I got the Falafel, Avocado Melt, and the Tofu Scramble Pocket. I was a huge fan of the Avocado Melt and the Tofu Pocket - no meat and still tasted awesome (that is hard for me to say, as I usually do not eat many veggies). If you want to eat something delicious, yet good for you, come here! They also have a variety of muffins, scones, and cookies too:)

My coworker recommended Chaco Canyon's smoothies to me. I tried the Cherry Almond smoothie, adding hemp protein. It was absolutely delicious and filling! At approximately $8 a smoothie (base price; add-ons for an additional charge), this is definitely a great meal replacement. They have a pastry bar with scones, muffins, cupcakes, quick breads, brownies, etc. Chaco Canyon is a self-service restaurant which I have consistently blasted in my reviews. I don't deduct any stars for that though as I am unlikely to sit and dine here, rather planning to frequent Chaco Canyon for the smoothie/coffee bar/pastry counter and getting some salad to-go. I highly recommend you give them a try!

This is my go-to place for out of town visitors that are vegetarians. Chacos is not fancy but it is healthy and good. It reminds me of the food co-op that I used to work at as a teenager. You can pick from a list of salads, bowls, sandwiches, or soups. If you are craving something sweet they also have pastry goods and dessert. The people working here are very sweet. They bring your food out to the table and if there's ever any issues they take care of it right away.

I like chaco canyon! It might not be the cheapest place but it's a really great establishment. I really like what it stands for in terms of sustainability, healthy and wholesomeness, and community. Even though it's more of a restaurant, it's also pretty good for studying! I like their music, they have stable wifi, and there are a good amount of chairs and tables. I also think all their food and drinks are delicious! It can get loud and it isn't exactly cheap though...

Fun place for a coffee break! I've been to Chaco Canyon several times for lunch as well as coffee and to just hang out. Everything is vegetarian/ vegan so it makes the ordering process for us health-nuts quite easy. Their coffee is strong and so is their wi-fi. Perfect for a study break or to meet someone over coffee. Yes. I'll be back!

Cute cafe-like setting. You grab a menu, figure out what you want to eat, order your food and take a seat and wait for your food. I love that this place is organic with products that are local and sustainable. We came here for dinner and had the raw enchiladas with a side of salad, tempeh bacon sandwich with a side of soup and a small hippie bowl. The raw enchiladas were good, but didn't have much filling. It was basically a flax tomato tortilla with a smear of cashew cream and a little bit of veggies. My bf enjoyed the tempeh bacon burger which was served on wheat toast (GF available) with a spread of garlicky hummus and vegenaise with cucumber and sprouts. You get a choice of a side of soup or salad with a sandwich and we got the Egyptian lentil soup, which was delicious. The hippie bowl was quinoa, tofu, shredded carrots with a tahini drizzle. That was the only dish we felt lacked flavor, but still good in it's simplicity. So why four stars? To be clear the food is good and we enjoyed everything we had, but we are biased because we feel we can make a lot of those dishes at home. As for the price point, you're paying for the quality of the food! I'd definitely recommend this place if you want healthy and organic food and want the convenience of dining out.

Stopped in for the first time and thought everything on the menu looked terrific. Unfortunately made the mistake of ordering the mis-named Garden Avocado Sandwich. You would expect something called that to have more than a barely imperceptible shmear of avocado; it would have been more accurately called a Sprout Sandwich, since the avocado was really no more than a condiment. If I'm in the area again I will probably stop in to try other things, but I hope they're not as stingy with all their ingredients.

This is like, the greatest place ever. Real food, big menu, fantastic. They are a tad particular here, which kind of goes with having a menu that's a tad particular, but the food is real food, the prices are fair (maybe a little too fair, so tip well!), and they really have it going on. If they have any shortcomings, they are more than compensated for by the fact that they serve real food here, and it is delicious.

Used to come here pretty regularly but this is my first visit in a while. This place is a great option if you are on a health kick. I believe it is all vegan. They have a lot of tasty rice bowls, and an array of raw options as well. I'm a big fan of their soup/sandwich combos. They usually have a few different soups to choose from, and all the soups I've had are very flavorful and very hearty - really yummy on a cold day. I went with the lentil soup on my latest visit. The sandwiches are a great accompaniment - my favorite is the reuben, but their twist on the BLT is also tasty. You can also find an extensive beverage selection. They have lots of choices for juices and smoothies as well as espresso if you need a pick-me-up. There is also an array of sweet temptations in the cold case. Hey - if you eat a healthy entree then it's like the dessert doesn't even count, right? There is a rotating menu of specials which I believe gets refreshed each month. On my visit, they offered a tamale plate and a lentil bowl which looked really yummy from the pictures. You could also indulge in a (vegan) coconut nog latte. Definitely a hippie vibe going on here, and the germophobes among us might give their forks an extra napkin wipe before eating (not that I speak from experience). But the atmosphere is actually very nice and cozy, and the food is yummy and guilt-free, both from a health and from a sourcing standpoint.

I'm very much in love with everything I've eaten here! The food is organic and vegan (the only exception being milk for coffee drinks??) the staff chill and nice, and I get to hang out with their lovely thriving plants! I always get a pure bliss juice and some sort of grain bowl. The only reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because I don't believe "vegan" should be something you can tout when you're serving up cow secretions as an option. I hope you reconsider this and make the plunge to be a fully vegan establishment!

This food was delicious. After reading countless reviews for sourrounding restaurants, I finally decided to eat here for dinner. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I was craving veggies and boy did this place deliver. I had the tempeh bacon sandwich half with a side of tomato chickpea soup. Both of these items it was the first time I had ever had them and they were absolutely delicious. I am in love with that tomato chickpea soup. I wish I ordered a bigger size! The sandwich was also delicous. I have never had tempeh before but am glad I tried it! To drink I had a build your own smoothie with strawberries, soy milk, kale, and blueberries. It was absolutely delicious too! This place is a must go to. I wish they had one in the valley back home in california where I am from! I'm sad to leave tomorrow but hopefully I'll be back to eat here again. I would highly recommend!

I've been dying to visit Chaco for years, but somehow it just never worked out to go until the other day, when I met my dad for lunch in the U District. I convinced him to try Chaco with me, and he gamely went along with it. I wasn't aware that they didn't have table service until I walked in the door. You order at the counter, then take a number to your table. If the menu were shorter or simpler, this would be fine, but I felt rushed to decide (not by the nice person at the counter, but just by the setup and my own hunger) and settled too quickly on something. That something was the Hippie Bowl. My dad ordered half an artichoke melt sandwich with a side of soup (something tomato-centric) and a fresh orange juice. My dad seemed to enjoy his lunch reasonably well; he didn't volunteer any praise spontaneously, but said he liked it when I asked. It looked fine, if a little small. The first bite of my bowl was fine, but I quickly tired of the overwhelming taste of tahini. There just wasn't enough going on to justify how garlicky my mouth felt. I could only finish a few bites before getting bored and over-saturated. I took the leftovers home but they somehow got even blander. This place gets such good reviews that I know I'll return eventually (though it might take a few MORE years!). Next time I think the best option would be to grab a table and menu, peruse at my leisure, THEN go up to the counter and order, OR do my research ahead of time and arrive prepared to order.

Hot damn, just a response to my first visit, but this place is great! Menu items I knew, others that were new to me... Simply lovely staff, good vibes, good prices, clientele, and mission. Can't wait to come back here for another meal or study sesh!

Chaco soothes my soul. I'm a firm believer that food is medicine and I'm pretty in tune to my body when it's balance has gone out of wack with booze and over indulgences (I'm talking to you, Cheese). Chaco always has the cures to jump start me back to my normal health with their quality meals and juices. I'm a green juice girl and Chaco does theirs right but I've also branched out and tried the Antidote (great when you've overworked your liver at the bar!) and the Flu Buster (If you have or feel like you're getting a cold down one of these ASAP!). My friend and I consistently share the Thai Peanut Bowl and Hippie bowl - add a little hot sauce or yeast and you're ready to munch! When you're feeling sick or unbalanced come check out Chaco to cure what ails you!

This place is the real deal-organic, fresh, delicious, child-friendly, and community run. Food service can be slow but that is ok, they are actually making the food and its not pre-made, sitting in a vat in the back. Warm on a cool day, lots of space to sit, fast wi-fi. Kind employees that arent snobs.

As you can see, I come here often. I have had a whole variety of awesome and awful service - usually depending on the customer in front of me, not the employees' fault. The things I love are the artichoke melt, Egyptian red lentil soup, green salad, mighty mofo sandwich and lentil burger. I like gooey warm yummy foods... If you like something different than these might be too gooey for you! My favorite drink is the antidote... I can only drink the small size--- which costs a lot of money (but I don't have a fancy juicer and would probably have tons of organic produce rotting in my fridge and I hate doing dishes so it is better for me to come here.) The cowboy cookie is good to dip in a rice milk latte... Haven't bought one in awhile because it has so much sugar. They believe in slow food - that's 20 minutes at least for your food. So be patient and don't get too frustrated while you wait. I have heard the gluten free beer is good and they give it to you while you wait for the rest of your order.

Best in Seattle. What more can I say. We love the food, the vibe, the integrity. I wish they would open a location in Bellingham.

Good food. Love the variety and it's quality food. More variety here then the one at greenwood. Very good. All organic so you know what you are eating.

I am not a vegan and I love my meat but this place is filling, fresh, and made me feel happily full and healthy. I love the relaxed feel. Definitely a place to come and study and get some yummy / healthy food and coffee. I noticed a lot of students camped out on their laptops and a couple group meetings going on. I grabbed a late lunch here with a couple friends yesterday and had the winter squash soup and the Mighty MoFo sandwich, which is a vegan Reuben sandwich. Everything was so fresh and so filling and didn't leave me feeling gross afterwards. I had a sip of my friend's almond and cherry smoothie and it was amazing as well. It is a bit on the expensive side but everything they use is high quality. Their coffee and deserts look amazing of course. Chai bars, empanadas, gingerbread scones... The list goes on. Definitely stopping back here again when I'm in the neighborhood! I've heard their tamales are to die for but when I went around 2 yesterday they were all sold out.

Even as an avid meat eater, this place was great! I felt so happy with my tasty and hearty vegan meal. I had the November special tamale plate of butternut squash and kale tamales, served with half an avocado and ranchero sauce, and your choice of soup or salad. I chose curried chickpea soup which was warming and spicy. I was especially pleased with my almond milk cappuccino which was super foamy - rare for non-dairy beverages especially! Customer service was also really friendly, and the atmosphere warm and happy. I want to go back!

I don't often give five stars but Chaco surely deserves one. The staff is super friendly, the cafe is cute and clean and smells really good, the menu was interesting and the food was fresh. I like vegetarian places that make flavorful, healthful cuisine. I'm not vegetarian but do like my vegetables. A friend and I came on a Friday night for a friend date and we had the Gilt voucher. We each ordered the half sandwich with their cheesy potato soup combo. I went with the Mighty Mofo which was their veggie take on the classic reuben. The sandwich (or half) was filling, had all the flavors of the reuben but I liked the added crunch from the cucumber and sprouts and I liked that the sauce was super flavorful and made up for the lack of cheese. The bread was delicious and the sandwich was neither greasy or messy. My friend went with the Garden Avocado sandwich and she also seemed to really enjoy the fresh flavors. Both of us really enjoyed the comforting cups of soup on a chilly Friday afternoon. We also got a side of the harvest salad, with apples, raisins, garam masala walnuts, red onion and braising greens. The dressing on the salad was tart and I really liked it. The flavor combo was fantastic and definitely screamed fall. We also shared the classic smoothie. We got the small size with coconut milk and it was definitely tasty, albeit a little pricy. But all of that food only set us back $30 so I thought it was a really great deal. I will be back!

Pretty tasty raw food. I had a "hippie bowl" and a coffee which were okay but what I wish I had gotten was my friend's lentil burger. The food was very filling and decently flavorful, some bland bits when I got down to mostly carrot, but I could load on some salt and yeast. As someone not vegan, I don't know if I'd go here by myself very often but I left happy and satisfied and won't forget it when I'm with someone vegan.

I chose to eat at Chaco Canyon because I don't remember what life was like when I could eat a deluxe McJuicyFarts burger without feeling like I am about to die. Time is of the essence and I just don't have 5 days to wait for the heartburn to subside. I really like this place and I really don't fit into the crowd, but at this point in my life, I welcome anything weird, revolutionary, and a tye-dye fanny pack away from crapping in a ditch to conserve water. When given even one reason to leave the Bridle Trails living, affair-loving, greasy, secret phone number scheming world of Bellevue, like I'm going to object. If that tells you anything about my social life. For 2 people, our lunch bill came up to be over $40. For 2 sandwiches with lots of flax to be had and 1 dessert. If your ass is broke, dine elsewhere because this isn't going to be your jam. We split the Sea Goddess Sandwich that had some greens, sprouts, more greens, cashew cream, all with some flax tortilla. It doesn't sound like much but it was surprisingly flavorful, comprised of a lot of texture, and everything worked. For something that is raw? I'm impressed. The same translated over to some enchilada they had made with a tomato-flax tortilla, mango salsa, and spiced vegetables. Both are worth trying as I couldn't decide which one I liked better. They had a brownie and a blueberry-lavender bar available for $5.20 each. Now I'm not sure what brand of culinary sorcery to which their cooks are privy but I expected that shit to get me damp and it didn't. The blueberry-lavender bar tasted more like a lemon bar. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I ate. Besides food and drink selections, they also sell dried goods. But, really, $7.50 for a dehydrated fruit package that has barely 1/8 of each fruit? That's not even a good joke. Overall, this little, trendy shop is something I can get used to visiting when 1.) I'm on a mission to destroy the well-being of my wallet, 2.) to feel good about everything I am eating, and 3.) I haven't shitted green in a while.

Pretty pleased with this place, and this is coming from someone who finds animals to be cute, tasty, and best found on a plate. My only gripe is the price - especially on the smoothies. They are good though, so I'm not too upset. Hippie bowl I ordered was very good and even filled me to the point where I took home leftovers. What I really liked however was the inclusion of the donation based 'community bowl' for those in need, and that they had a sharp dispenser in the bathroom. I like that this place tries to take care of it's community, so I definitely felt better about paying a premium.

Absolutely love this place ! Went here recently with one of my girlfriends who has recently converted to vegetarian - we split the tempeh sandwich and the raw enchiladas and both items were seriously amazing ! Chaco canyon is definitely a must see for plant based eaters and meat eaters alike!

I'm giving this place a 3 star because I felt as tho the service was lacking. It took over 10 min to take my order and another 30 min to make my order. I also felt as though some of the foods weren't worth the money as I felt as though it could have been done at home. Not to insult the place, it's a fantastic spot and has good choices but it just didn't give me that taste of a restaurant that I was looking for. However I did enjoy the food, alittle under seasoned, but still delicious in its own ways

Chaco Canyon...why did we not meet until recently? Food: AMAZING. Service: GREAT. Quality: A+. Everything here is vegetarian/vegan. They partner with local farms each month. This is a sustainably driven, ethical, high quality café. My only complaint is that the food is so expensive. HOWEVER, I realize that when purchasing local, organic foods this is usually the case though and the reason it is pricey is because it is high quality--no pesticides, no GMOs, raising awareness to local farms instead of purchasing from "the man." etc. I tried the artichoke melt sandwich. Oh my gosh...and I thought I would only eat half-what a fool. The fennel pear salad tasted pretty greeny/leafy and I'm not sure I would recommend...but everything else so far has been wonderful. There are baked goods, meals, coffee, tea, fresh juice and smoothies. There is plenty of seating, but it gets crowded fast. There is plenty of parking, but most of it is paid. If you're looking for new inspiration for healthy eating or want do dine-out guilt-free, this is the place! Great job, Chaco Canyon. I will be returning.

Love love love Chaco! My favorite is their sprout sandwich. Their juices can be a bit on the pricey side, but you're paying for fresh organic ingredients! On sunny days it's great to order food and a drink and hang out either inside or outside the place. If you order to go you can bring your own Tupperware to save 25 cents or so!

We decided to check this place out while my friend was doing a month of eating raw foods. There was ALL kinds of stuff she could have here, so she was really stoked. I myself decided upon having a chocolate cherry smoothie and their daily soup... which I believe was a lentil one on the day I visited. Both were good! I really enjoyed the smoothie. This is a great place for people that have different diets or dietary restrictions. It should be mentioned that if you are unaware, you are not going to get any meat here. Don't let it deter you!

  • Aves M.

Chaco is a great location for healthy, organic, locally grown food. They try to get all their ingredients from local farmers and typically only venture outside of this mindset in order to bring a well rounded menu. They have limitless options of very high quality health foods, the matcha (& banana) smoothie was amazing and there dessert options are a sweet tooth killer. The staff is extremely nice and outgoing, they represent the Seattle hipster vibe perfectly and are always friendly. If you are on a budget for vegan food Chaco can be a bit pricey because of their high standards in ingredients and attention to buy from local farmers, but it's worth every penny. If every restaurant set their standards as high as Chaco we'd all be healthier and happier because of it!

I believe I can be a vegetarian! (If I stay near a place like Chaco canyon...) The juices are fresh and to die for. Omg the burst of flavor.... How is that possible? My boyfriend had the choco maca which basically is a very delicious chocolate milk that boosts your vitality and intimacy ;) I had the blue green juice which had blueberries bananas and apple juice and superfood powder. Awesome!!!!!! The juice tastes sooooo good! Food. My boy had the chia pudding which I'm not a fan of but he enjoyed it. It's probably really tasty for people who like grains, muesli mushy kinda thing. I like my tofu scramble sandwich! Burst of sunlight and juices. Very very tasty. I love the texture of the carrots and other cucumber like things - not too hard not too soft and mushy. It was great! The place is large and spacious. Many people bring their work here. There's free wifi if you buy something here! I definitely recommend this as a good place to work other than hanging out or having meals. Great job!! I love the vibe.

This place is pretty gosh darn awesome. From the concept - the message - the food - the space - the awareness - the history... super interesting and awesome. I poked inside here for some food and drink before meeting my good friend down the street at Scarecrow Video. To be had was the Lentil Burger with soup (roasted red pepper and tomato? I forgot and it looked like green pea) and their really delightful in-house made chai - SO good. The burger was amazeballz and a can of whambam. Suh-weet. The sense of conscious sustainability is truly great and under-appreciated, IMO. Neat decor throughout and such. Even though it was close to closing, I wish the bus bins were emptied... no more tricky dirty dish anti-Jenga for me. I do care to try more of this goodness... UPDATE @ 2-28-13: I forgot that I don't eat pickles, really... but I totally ate these! Fresh, crispy and ever-so-subtly satly. Yum.

Not sure yet loo but I asked for a ingredient list and the green curry bowl has no soy in it that's a freaking plus woot I have tried the food yet. But it's 95 percent organic and that's so hard to find. Hey even have organic sriracha sauce wtf !!! Perfect for Asians lol well I'll update when I try the curry can't wait

I'm a fan of Chaco Canyon. I'm not vegetarian or vegan but I would be content to order almost any item on the menu. The food is really good and I like their mission. The prices are a bit expensive in my opinion and it can take a long time to get your food. The setting is a bit noisy and cafeteria like. I recently had the artichoke melt sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. Service is friendly. They always seem to be busy. Self-serve water and utensils. I'll be back again and again. This is a place where you can eat delicious food and feel good about what you're eating.

The lentil burger! The cowboy cookies! The spicy peanut bowl! The coconut milk chai! The empanadas! This vegan joint is one of my favorites. I try to focus on plant based foods and have an egg allergy, so this place is like heaven for me. A full menu of vegan options (did I mention also they do breakfast/brunch foods?) and so many delicious choices! I still haven't tried nearly enough of their menu but their lentil burger is so delicious, as are their baked goods (from cookies to banana bread to spicy empanadas). I most recently had a curry butternut squash empanada with raisins and cashews and some cinnamon that was so deliciously savory and sweet. I also enjoy the spicy thai peanut bowl and coffees. There can sometimes be a long wait for your food, even after placing your order but I'm giving them full stars because there's not nearly enough great vegan joints (although we are very lucky in Seattle!) so I love them even if it does sometimes take 20min for a heated pastry and coffee. So if you're not in a rush and craving some cruelty free eats, this is your place :)

the healthiest, most satisfying eating experience. As someone with an autoimmune disease with food allergies, nutrition is everything. When i have a meal here, I'm ready to conquer the day. i love how they change the menu monthly. On an environmental stand point this place rocks. I think it may be the best environmentally friendly restaurant I've been to. It makes me so happy to see a place like this exists. This is a real progressive, impactful business and food model that everyone should feel good about supporting. You walk out feeling like a super hero. If you have a ten hour day ahead of you like me, this is the breakfast you want.

Organic, fresh, delicious. Every time I eat at Chaco, I end up feeling better than when I arrived. Their food is wholesome and delicious. HIGHLY suggest the artichoke melt. Absolutely to DIE for. If you like pudding/tapioca but don't like too sweet, the chai pudding is really good. Build your own bowls are a hit. And the drinks... God damn those juices and smoothies. I ended up addicted to feeling so good and bought a juicer AND a Vitamix. Now to somehow duplicate their recipes. NOM NOM NOM.

If you are a health conscious and socially conscious person visiting the U District and hungry for some grub, this is your place. Simple-healthy-organic-vegan-comfort food, casual atmosphere, and it serves the local community as well. And I can't say enough about their range of fresh juices. Pure Bliss amongst them is probably the most appropriately named. It is indeed pure (with fresh pineapple, spinach, apple, mint etc) and heavenly (all favors are distinct but none overpowers the rest) and after a glass on a hot summer afternoon you do feel blissful! For $5+ a glass it may seem a bit on the higher side, but trust me, you won't regret it. My friend and I typically split a small. Try it and thank me later :-)

Great cafe! They have a good assortment of vegan options as well. It's quite expensive... but you have to pay for organic local food somehow! For an upscale coffee and breakfast, i'd recommend this place anyday!

Finally made the trip over here and wasn't disappointed. Everything on the menu sounds delicious and healthy. Definitely vegetarian though (very few "mock" dishes. Lots of quinoa and tofu). The Hippie bowl hot the spot for a lighter early dinner. Their tahini is amazing and I have a feeling it would be tasty on just about anything. Service was so quick they had my food out before I had picked a table. Definitely making a trip back.

I love everything I've tried here. I also feel like the food at this location is better seasoned than in West Seattle but I have only been to the West Seattle spot once. More research is needed.

Chaco provides a great selection of vegan and gluten free food. The quality is top notch. Two considerations however when coming here, the prices are roughly double that of similar restaurants. Comparing it to Wayward Vegan Cafe a couple of blocks away I'd say everything is double priced with smaller portions. The wait time is also double, food takes longer to prepare at Chaco. I'm not saying that these facts are "bad", just don't come here if you are pressed for time or on a budget. A meal and drink can easily cost 20 bucks here, though quality is high.

Yum! Full of good stuff, menu has plenty of options. Thought sandwich was a little pricey, but totally worth it for dinner. Added half an avocado to the tofu scramble, which seemed like quite a bit compared to what most restaurants dish out. Would've been nice to have a side though.

All time favorite vege spot in town! I go here often. The fresh juices are really good and the blends taste amazing, also the avacado sandwich is bomb! This is seriously the place to eat in the U district and everything here is super healthy.

Great place! I've been there a few times and each time I've very much enjoyed what I got. The soup is very good. Also, the lentil burger is really good, not like most other veggie burgers which fail because they try too hard to mimic meat or are just compressed vegetables.

After what would have been a full meal anywhere else, I left this place hungrier than I was before I came in. That was the thinnest sandwich I've ever spent 11 dollars on. I could have gone out and bought a loaf of organic bread, all the organic ingredients in that sandwich, and I could have made enough of those stupid sandwiches to feed an army of tiny children for 2 weeks. That being said, there's a Veggie Grill really close to here. I would highly recommend going there. Who knows if they're organic or not. I can tell you that it's entirely vegan, fillings, and incredibly delicious. Also - the people that work at veggie grill are nicer and will even go out of their way to walk to your table (that long 13 second walk) to give you extra sauce with out making you walk back up to the counter and hand them $3 for it. Because when you're paying $12 for a fucking sandwich, you shouldn't have to ask for extra anything.

I waver between a 4 and 5 here (just depends on the the day, and the food you get) but this last visit was a solid 5. Why? Because they actually care. I had just had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted (10 days before my visit) and needed to be careful about what I eat because my teeth and gums were still sensitive. When I ordered the artichoke melt, Kristin (I think) thought carefully about the entire entree and made sure the kitchen knew not to toast my bread. Funny thing, she was also concerned about the half peeled cucumbers and I had to reassure her that that was fine. After I sat down, whoever was making my melt came and found me to ask if it'd be okay to warm the sandwich so the bread would be soft and the artichoke pate and cashew cheese would melt a little. My goodness, they were taking more care than I was! This was very thoughtful and I so appreciate them for being so customer-centered. They're not kidding when they want to know your dietary restrictions! Oh and the Hippie Bowl, the Artichoke Melt, the Egyptian Lentil Soup (surprisingly lemon-y), and the Lemon Ginger Elixir (hot juice!) are all good in my book. As well as the cookies, cakes, and juices...

We brought out of town guests here and everyone got sick :( Such a bummer. I had been to the West Seattle location and loved it. Not sure what was going on with their food. I looked up their health inspection record and found "critical violations" - eek.

Amazing place! Truly a gluten free vegetarian/vegans paradise! The gluten free THC sandwich was amazing and the arugula salad was great as well! Both the gluten free and normal bread was great. Such a wonderful atmosphere as well. Awesome quirky plates, silverware, and cups. All about sustainable, local, and organic foods! Great job! The peachy keen smoothie was amazing too!

We drove 38 mins to try out this place. It was definitely worth it. This cafe has a long menu for a cafe with lots of variety. We tried the sweet potato peanut soup, lentil burger and thai peanut bowl. The food was fresh, good and different from any regular cafe. The sweet potato peanut soup was the best soup we ever had. I have one less star because my large thai peanut bowl could have used some more sauce. But we'll definitely come back again.

This place is so delicious! So I actually checked out their menu some time over the summer and thought it looked blah and was probably overpriced for the portions I would get. But just a couple of weeks ago, a co-worker asked me if I wanted to go and I thought why not? I got the reuben with a salad. She got the hippie bowl, tomato soup, and some sort of juice. First of all, I believe she got a small hippie bowl, and it was a pretty good portion size! It was so amazing!! The tahini sauce on top was definitely the icing on the cake. My reuben was amazing, albeit pricey (11 bucks I think). The salad is delicious as well, they have pickled onions on top and their vinaigrette is tasty. I was super full and filled up just as I would have been if I had eaten anywhere else. I really liked the atmosphere of this place too; not anything like some of the vegetarian/vegan places I've been to where I walk in and automatically feel judged for not being granola enough. All in all, the place is kinda pricey (but it's to be expected because we're in Seattle, it's organic, and it's vegan) but delicious and will definitely fill you up!

After my race this weekend my tummy won't stop making crazy noises. I decided it was time for some real good for me food. I got the Classic Smoothie. It was super yummy. I look forward to trying the granola and a bowl and the pizza... pretty much everything. Sat and read and sipped. mmm.. Both are far from my house but I will just have to find an excuse to get me in the neighborhood more often.

Lovely! I am no vegan, so I advise all non-vegans to use discretion and go for something that can't be screwed up for omnivores like myself. It is rather on the pricey side, because of it being organic and probably has high overhead costs with wifi and all. I ordered the Egyptian Lentil soup which has a neat, very twisty finish. My pesto melt was quite nice too, though it could have been more overpowering with the basil. My friend ordered a fresh squeezed juice which he said was "very pure and delicious". The muffins are fantastic as well. Chaco Canyon certainly has a niche in the University District, and in Seattle, as there aren't too many organic cafes that go so far out of their way to prove that they care. Dig it!

Excellent variety of vegan foods, including numerous raw and gluten free options. Huge selection of fresh juices including unusual ingredients like fennel. Also has delicious raw smoothies made from fresh fruits. I tried the mediterranean plate and the nachos - both were raw and gluten free and very tasty. The portions were generous and filling, and the flavors were excellent. Other raw food places sometimes include too much salt, vinegar or oil - none of these applied. The flavors were fresh and wholesome. Nice atmosphere to hang out and talk with a friend.

I went here today to participate in a focus group (free dinner, YUSSSS) and ordered the yellow curry bowl (yellow curry sauce, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, curry, spices and coconut). You have the option of choosing either kelp noodles or zucchini, and i chose the noodles. I also ordered the " 7003" juice with apple, orange, carrot, kiwi, and ginger. It came out to our table pretty quickly. The juice was refreshing (but expensive at i believe $3.50 for a small). The curry was pretty small for my greedy standards. I liked the consistency of the noodles but i ended up adding copious amounts of salt to compensate for the bland flavor. I was hoping the coconut and other flavors would jump out, but yeah...more salt. And pepper. WHERE is the garlic in this? I love my garlic! . *sigh* I DID enjoy it somewhat, but I was also glad it wasn't $9 out of MY pocket. I wish that there were some sauces you could add. There's a help-yourself water station with silverware, napkins, and hot sauce, but nothing else. The guy at the counter was really friendly and didn't get frustrated by my questions. I want to come back and try more menu items, because they all sounded amazing. Very creative menu. I'm impressed, though, by the fact that my meal didn't taste like a yard, being raw food and all. I guess I'm just the type of girl who over-saltifies her food and likes large portions. You may not have this problem, so give this place a try. BTW, to get here, i went south on I-5 from Edmonds, took the 50th st. exit, and kept going before taking a left on 12th Ave (you'll see a Wallgreen's on your right...it's right in front of the cafe). *joy

Im a big fan. Loved my hippie bowl. Such a great concept. Excited for the new 2nd location. Hoping one day there will be a third near me. Such good variety on the menu. Never had anything I didnt like and everyone Ive brought always enjoys it too. Love that it opens early and has happy hour. Also always love places where you get to pick how to flush the toilet. Cant wait to try some of the many delicious sounding juice conconctions....next time.

Considering I practically lived here for a year.....yeah, its pretty awesome. Food and drink are amazing, the baked goods rock (go Darcy!) and I can always find a place to camp out with my laptop for six hours! The staff are super quick and super nice people! Free speedy internets! It doesn't hurt that its only a couple blocks from my house too..... My only complaints though: cheesy music and cheesier decor (well, unless you are into that stuff, which is cool, i'm more into the cliche hipster coffeeshop atmosphere), other then that, a billion thumbs up for this place....you WIN!

I'm so grateful for Chaco being walkable from my house- as a mostly raw-foodist and someone with Celiac disease and a myriad of other allergies this place fits the bill. But I'm also a foodie, a gourmet chef and picky as hell about food- I want it to be close to as good as what I can make at home if I'm going to pay for it! It's not incredibly gourmet but is quite a few steps up from your typical veggie places which tend to be heavy, cooked, grainy, often over-processed foods that easily explain why so many vegetarians look so pale and spongy. Seitan and processed soy are not health-giving foods! Chaco's food is a lot lighter on the stomach than most and they have a not extensive but very appetizing raw selection of entrees- nachos, "pizza", a zucchini "pasta" bowl, some other options- all standard raw recipes if you're familiar with raw "cooking"- nut and seed based purees, "meats", and "cheese"...they've added a couple of really tasty raw specials each day, usually thai, or mediterranean-influenced, and have started to have a happy hour of beer (including a gluten-free beer I've never tasted), sake (don't know if it's any good- most sake is made with koji enzymes which are fermented on barley- the gluten is supposed to be removed during the distillation process but many, many celiacs still react to alcohols that are made from gluten or where gluten is used in processing, including me), and local wines (thank god I can drink wine!!!!).Cooked options that I've had here have all been yummy too.Service here ranges but is never hostile- it's counter service, and counter service people are never to be confused with professional waitstaff. Expect things to move pretty slow, but everything is fresh and oh-so-tasty (all of my omnivorous foodie friends love this place too), the vibe and crowd are pretty diverse, and prices are reasonable. There's also a Chinook Book coupon where your 2nd item is 50% off, which is lovely. I'd love it if they had outdoor seating, but they're only improved the longer they've been open. Yay Chaco!:)

I am a carnivore. I eat dairy. How could I love a Vegan whole food restaurant? Easy, the food at Chaco Canyon always blows me away, every time. I try to visit Chaco Canyon at least once a week and when I am feeling the need for a boost of veggies and whole grains. My meal usually consists of one of their large made-on-the-spot juices and one of the many options of sandwiches, fresh "pizzas", bowls or soups. The veggies are fresh and of the good variety (i.e. no iceberg lettuce as a filler) and they are able to transform basic veggies, grain, and beans into wonderful combinations of flavors and textures sure to please any food connoisseur. The service has always been great and quick (unless there is couple in the front of the line that asked about each item on the menu) and the prices are reasonable. The new location is under a condo development and it's unfortunate. The space is cavernous, loud, and uncomfortable. The "South West" dcor is flawed and almost obnoxious but I don't go there for the atmosphere. The food takes me away each time and that's good enough for me.

I don't feel funny right now so this will just be a straight up review today... I'm quite shocked to see so many people talking about this place being expensive. I had a Buddah's bowl (quinoa, tofu, carrots, tahini dressing = yum) and a cup of egyptian red lentil soup and inner light tea all for $11. I couldn't even eat it all. It's healthy, fresh, and the menu is creative and well thought out for a vegan, raw, or veggie eater. I'm not exclusively any of those and I was totally satisfied. My girlfriend had the artichoke melt and it was deLISH. I wanted to to try the raw chocolate brownie... but that actually was expensive for $5. So... I guess it depends on what you order and what you expect. I liked it and will go back for sure.

I really dig this place for smoothies and a cup of soup, to go. Little known fact: the Elvis smoothie with PB and Banana, made with Almond Milk tastes exactly like a Reeses' peanut butter cup smoothie. 4 stars to that alone. Oh sweet lord, I had them add hemp protein to mine and it seems the healthier it gets the more it tastes like it must be terrible for you. I can work my way through a large of these things at 2 and be good till 8pm. A little pricey, but that's a smoothie for you it seems. The baked goods sometimes miss the mark. The chocolate chip muffins are a little lacking in the flavor/texture department, but are packed with chips so that sort of balances it out. You can come here and order a quality of salad you won't regret ordering out--not the sort that makes you wish you'd made it at home. Overall delicious treats at a moderate price. I'm used to coming in on a weekday where might be busy but calm once you are seated. Visit on a weekend and the loft-style space will not lend itself to studying, and it tends to be hectic and loud-ish. The owner and staff are generally outstanding and will make up for the weekend rush if you can catch 'em on some downtime.

In general, I like this place. I like the concept. I like having raw and vegan food available. The staff is extremely friendly. They have an ingredients list for everything so you can really see what is in your food (if you want to) which is awesome. My only issue is that the prices are high for what you get. I got a smoothie for approximately $5. This isn't an outrageous price for a smoothie, but I'm used to getting a reasonable sized drink - like 12-16 ounces. So I was a little disappointed when they brought me out my smoothie in an (albeit adorable) 8 oz cup. I also got a quinoa bowl, which was literally just quinoa, spinach and cabbage, and peanut sauce. This was all especially underwhelming because after my recent, lovely experience at Prasad in Portland, I know how delicious and well-priced a smoothie and quinoa bowl can be.

I don't need to add much to the other reviews... The food at Chaco is quite tasty, the staff is friendly, they've got a great selection of drinks and food. However, I would add that if you or someone in your party has a hearing aid or is simply sensitive to loud sounds, you may want to call in your order and take it to go. Chaco's new location is large, with concrete floors and a lot of hard surfaces--sound bounces everywhere. So, between busy mornings where you can hear every conversation around you, to the very loud roar of the blender (almost constantly in use), you may have a hard time hearing your dining companions or even your own thoughts. It'd be great if Chaco could try to dampen some of the sounds so the place could be a bit more comfortable to dine at. Best time to go if you're hearing-sensitive: Weeknight evenings just before or after dinner time.

This place is in my top 5 for sure! The pizza is as exquisite as it is unique. I've had the quinoa with peanut sauce and a seaweed cucumber salad, all natural, whole, delightful feeling in your taste buds. My personal fave are the juices, from the green goddess juice to granny's garden. Be prepared for a taste of pure, no holds bar nature! I always leave with a treat, any of their raw desserts are fabulicious. You'll leave feeling restored. It just makes you feel great overall. This is how we should try to eat most of the time. Love it!

Many choices for wholesome food! The food portions are large and filling. The smoothie drinks are kind of small - so order the bigger size if you can. Hemp milk in them is amazing. They make their own hemp milk on site! Yes, it's expensive, but it's also organic, clean, and good food. Once in a while I order something I don't like, but overall it has been satisfying. I definitely prefer the West Seattle site over the U-District one, for the service and ambiance.

I'm not a vegetarian and I'd never had raw prepared food before I visited Chaco Canyon. I started out easy with the artichoke melt on spelt (I love when restaurants offer non-wheat options!). It was excellent, and so I ventured on to the tunaless...and found my true love. I have tried on numerous occasions to replicate this tuna-substitute but I just can't do it the way Chaco does! More recently I have ventured into the raw items. I did so with an open mind and I've enjoyed the raw pizza, raw nachos, and raw zucchini curry. While they didn't resemble "pizza" or "nachos", they were tasty (although pretty small) meals. The baked (or not baked, in the case of the carrot cake) goods are also consistently good (with a few gluten-free options almost everyday). The coffee is nothing special, but the smoothies and other specialty drinks are great. I could go on and on about the food here, but instead I'll just recommend that you give it a try!

I go to Chaco Canyon at least once a week. They are delicious and have such a great selection. I particularly enjoy the Raw Enchilada plate. It is so filling. They also have very tasty deserts! They strive to use only organic ingredients and really care about the environment. Not to mention that the staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are into juicing, they have a great selection. For many of the items they will let you sample to see if you like it. I went with my boyfriend and he was curious about the syrup on the waffle so they let him taste it. The same thing with a soup I ordered and the hemp milk. It is very nice to have places like this where there are so many choices for people that eat organic, or raw, or who need gluten-free. They are very accommodating of the many types of dietary needs.

They have a great selection of vegetarian, vegan, and raw foods here. I personally enjoy getting their beverages-- the London Fog (earl grey+steamed milk+ vanilla) is a favorite, as are their juices. Some of their sandwiches can be a bit on the higher end of the price scale, but everything is tastes good enough to deserve it.

Chaco is convinent for me to walk from work especially because I am a Vegan. The prices are a bit high. The wait is a little bit to long for my 30 hour lunch. My favorite is the artichoke melt. I'm a little bit weary of their cooks wearing sleevless shirts. Isn't that a health code issue? Staff is very friendly!

I wish I'd been hungry when we went to Chaco. Now I have to buy another plane ticket to Seattle so that I can eat there! Oh, the sacrifices I make... We each had freshly squeezed juice. I'm not sure what they were called, but mine had ginger, fennel, and apple juice in it. It made my tummy feel positively calm and delighted. It also tasted great. My husband's was equally good. After our juice, we each had a coffee drink (when in Rome...). I had an Americano and John had a mocha. The chocolate sauce in the mocha was freshly made and I could really taste the difference from something canned and not fresh. I'm all about the local, fresh ingredients in my food and drink. The cafe location and decor are top notch. We stayed and played dominos until the lunch crowd got so thick that we felt guilty keeping the table. The clientele had a very mellow, pleasant energy. I love wall with the rocks you can buy and personalize. It feels good to support a local business in the corporate coffee giant capital of America. I don't remember what we put on our personalized tile, but I'm looking forward to our next trip to Seattle to find out! I've never seen a two-flush toilet before. That was truly awesome! I want one in my house!

This is a pretty good place w/ a nice friendly vibe. Parking right in front of the restaurant is impossible, but if you park on the north side of 50th, parking is easy. A good place to bring a large crowd because they have plenty of space. I like the pesto melt, but can only eat 1/2 because it is way too salty. Solution, split it w/ somebody or eat the rest later. The lentil soup is amazing. I had a raw dish (forgot the name) that had kelp noodles and tons of ginger. YUM! I like that you can get both raw and cooked food, which is nice because it will please everybody. The desserts are sort of yucky. I'm not into raw desserts that have a nutty crust because it gets soggy. Honestly, I never have room for dessert when I eat out, so it's not a problem. they also have a bucket where you can drop off batteries to be recycled. very very cool.

Friends from out of town came to pay me a visit, starting with lunch. Jeff is vegetarian, his boyfriend a carnivore but not opposed to eating vegetarian. Most veg*n joints on the hill are closed for vacation or Burning Man, so that leaves University District. It's not that I'm opposed to hanging out in the U-District, I just don't like college students. A friend who's a carnivore with a vegan boyfriend recommended Chaco Canyon, and since I trust her judgment I brought my friends into an unclean land. We each tried an item from the raw food menu, all of it was fresh and delicious. The juices are served in large glasses and taste amazing. The college students were quiet and kept to themselves, most of them dressed like bohemians or wearing sandals with long pants. Nary a trace of patchouli. I'm hooked.

I love you, I love you, I love you.... What else is there to say. Whether you're a vegetarian or not, the food is amazing. The atmosphere is welcoming and lovely, everyone that works there is friendly, and it feels like your somewhere in Moab or Sedona. I'm so glad they moved, the new space is much more comfortable and airy. I'm a bit worried about the freaky dependency I've developed on the raspberry tart. I've had entire relationships that didn't affect me as much as one slice of that thing does. As if it couldn't get any better, last week they posted a notice for a liquor license. All this and wine too....

I like the idea and politics of Chaco Canyon, but the food is only okay and really expensive for what you get. I can't knock the kind of food they make; my mouth and stomach are hippies. Bad meal: nachos--sounded good, but were too expensive and not great. Pretty good meal: recession bowl. Like another reviewer, I much prefer Hillside Quickie, or even greasy Flowers when in the U District.

I miss this place SO MUCH, I just moved to Los Angeles from Seattle, and this is one of the places that haunt my newly rain filled dreams. My personal favorites are the cilantro pesto bowl, and the Egyptian Red Lentil soup (when they have it), but I wasn't disappointed by any of their other soup of the day choices. Also the classic smoothie is quite possibly the most delicious smoothie I have ever had, and they always have an assortment of amazing vegan and raw desserts. It does have a very distinct hippie vibe, but it is a vegan restaurant, so that is sort of par for the course. If you are lucky enough to live nearby definitely check it out.

  • Jeff P.

Not just yummy for vegan, but yummy AND vegan. Friendly staff, free wi-fi, good coffee, fresh juices and a constantly changing array of specials keep me coming back. It's also quiet enough to have a conversation or a business lunch, which is a big plus in the U District.

  • Andrea S.

This is my favourite restaurant in all of Seattle. It's true soul food, nourishing, full of flavour & happiness. The raw pizza or artichoke sammich are my faves. LED lights, stainless steel cups, composting and recycling, I know they share my values and I want to support their sustainable business practices in every way possible. My glasses chose an inopportune moment to lose a screw at their counter, and Warren helped sweep the floor to find the minuscule screw. He also gave me paper clips to make emergency repairs until I could get home. Chaco is always top of my list for eating out.

  • Tazzy M.

I like the food here. Great smoothies, good ingredients, never too busy. But this place is PRICEY. For some basic hippy food, you can easily pay $20 for lunch. I wish it was more reasonable. Somebody in Seattle needs to find the balance between THIS place and Sunlight Cafe and then I will have a new favorite.

  • Tana A.

This is place was introduced to me by a friend and it was yummy! I'm not a vegitarian and I found Chaco to be lacking little in the flavorful and healthy category. The black bean burger and Hippie bowl are favs.

BEST GLUTEN FREE BREAD I HAVE EVER HAD!! I love this place!! The food is so good and healthy. Being gluten free it is really hard to find a good sandwich...they have so many choices. I love sweets and they always have great choices from cookies to raspberry cupcakes. YUM!! The staff is friendly and they all know the menu and what someone with a serious condition can and can't eat. Thank you Chaco Canyon!!

I have a pretty diverse brunch crowd, and we are always looking for tasty food that the non-vegans will like and omnivore eateries that have ample vegan options. (This place is the former) We had about 8 different dishes, and they were all pretty damn tasty. No, the "Nachos" are not going to look like those at the Elysian, and the "Pizza" is going to more like a flat salad. Both are good, but I put my recommendation behind the sandwiches, which come with a bowl of soup or a side salad. Table Favorites: a green pea lime cumin salad, the pesto sandwich, and the Egyptian red lentil soup. Lame: $3 for a side of pesto Cuidado: juices are a strange osmotic load on the stomach, and IMHO are best in blends, lest things get all squoobly inside. Service was snappy, even with the brunch crowd. Also: I hate to even admit I noticed, but the place was brimming with cute, apparently single vegan women. Get thee to a hummus-ery.

    (4)
  • Jen A.

Like most restaurants of this ilk, it is expensive. But I do love it and feel good about myself after eating there. After trying a few different menu items, I've landed on the wonderfully flavorful lentil burger and a juice that used to be called the Maui Grass, but they changed the name. Delightful (if a bit slow service - though I don't mind at all).

  • Diane T.

I was little weary about this place. I like to eat healthy, but I don't like to compromise taste! Luckily, this place was the best of both worlds. I got the raw nacho plate which was a large portion of dehydrated flax seed chips with a hummus type spread and mango pico de gallo. It was a little pricey, but if you think about how much work goes into preparing a raw meal, it's probably about right. Next time I go back, I definitely want to try the raw chocolate fudge brownie!

  • Jack E.

Didn't seem like too bad a place, except when I went to grab a napkin and ask for the wifi password, and the barista gave me some attitude for no reason, oh so typical of any establishment around here. Just one more place to boycott as far as I'm concerned. If you work in the service industry and can't provide customer service . . . Yeah. Where do owners find these people? I also don't particularly care they have a sign in the bathroom explaining why their bathroom is ecologically superior to other bathrooms. Really, dude, I just went in there to shit. I don't need your snobbery to follow me to the water closet for a more private moment. If you want to do good in the world, do it. Bragging about it just makes you a lot smaller than you think you are. A few too many hipster wannabes hanging around too - that just bums me out everytime I see another boring person with no personality and big ugly glasses. The prices are also ridiculous, which tells me more than wanting to do good for the environment, they seek to capitalize off the green trend and sheepish "conservationists" around here by charging a lot more than they should. It costs less to grow organically, in general. Not to mention with food standards what they are in this country, saying you serve organic food is like saying all your vegetables grew in some dirt somewhere. I know.

I have only been here once, but I really liked it. I had a hard time deciding what to get because it all looked so good. I ended up getting the artichoke melt. It was good, but the fake cheese is more like tofu than cheese. It doesn't really melt. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the name is a bit misleading. The tabouleh was really good and I even hate parsley. I had a blue green blast smoothie that was really good. I couldn't taste the "green" which is good because I don't like the taste of greens in a drink. :-) It was the night before Valentines day, so I brought home a vegan chocolate cupcake with pink frosting (shaped like a heart, of course) to share with my boyfriend. We both really liked it (even though I don't really like chocolate all that much). What I didn't like: - It is a little difficult to get the attention of the staff when you want to order - The "carrot cake" is a complete disaster. Icky

Who knew vegan bread could taste so good?? The hubby and I had a late lunch at the Chaco Caf and this place can turn people to a new way of eating. The artichoke sandwich was delish with a spread of artichokes, sprouts, vegan mozzarella, on toasted bread. Their lentil soup was so flavorful with spices and fresh ingredients. My hubby had the grilled cheese and chili and he ate all of it. I was thinking, does he know we're eating vegan?? We washed it down with a shot of wheatgrass and we were happy with our experience. The only thing, it's not cheap as we understand they use organic ingredients. Note, the hot sandwiches take some time make which gives you moment to people watch. We'll be back.

Chaco canyon is a restaurant with integrity serving the food they do. The lentil burger is amazing. If you get it with the salad you can stuff the greens on top of your burger. It's delightful. Very yummy, bring your friends and melt over their delicious raw desserts.

We chanced upon this place since the restaurant we were heading to was closed at 11am. Am so glad we found this gem instead! The food is just refreshingly tasty and different than you get here in New England! The Thai peanut bowl has one of the tastiest sauces I've had, the sea veggie salad with cucumbers and seaweed is my kind of dish, although better as a side or a share- it may not fill you up by itself. The Artichoke melt is yummy, I got it with the bean soup which was okay, wish I'd gotten the lentil one. The quinoa in the hippie salad is delicious, though it could use a little sauce of some kind. But love it anyway! Highly recommend for a light meal.

DISCLAIMER: Being from Boston, I have never been to an "Organic Vegan Cafe". I have only been to cafes that serve my tofu scramble with some bacon bits smooshed in because the kitchen is too lazy to properly clean cooking supplies for 'that crazy un-American girl'. Taking the above into consideration, walking into Chaco Canyon one blustery Tuesday afternoon was similar to walking through the pearly gates for me. There were sandwiches! There was no meat anywhere in the restaurant! Freal, I took one look at the menu and tripped right into food lust. Once I collected myself I ordered the vegan version of a Caprese sandwich - vegan mozzarella, tomato, pesto, sprouts pressed between two deliciously crusty pieces of bread and complimented with a side salad. If I'm ever back in Seattle I'm going to make sure I stay in the U-District for just this restaurant. It's that good.

Went for the first time yesterday but it won't be the last! We just got treats & coffee (score! we didn't even know the bakery stuff would be half off for happy hour) but the food looked super tasty so we'll be back Good vibe from staff & patrons

Went back again and had the much touted artichoke melt. It was tasty and I didn't mind the soy cheese at all. I like the lentil burger better though. I might need to check out their "happy hour" where they have lentil burger sliders!

I have been coming here a few times a week for a few years now. The food is great (I love the Thai peanut bowl and samosa pockets and miss the lentil dal bowl) and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Being a laptop nomad, I am typically here to work. There are a lot of power outlets and the wi-fi speed and up time are good. Their coffee is good, but the 50 cent refills make it great.

Hippie chow never comes cheap, and Chaco is no exception, but overall they make stuff worth the $. On those days when I feel like being a good Hindu boy, but without the baggage of smelling like onion and curry, I hit Chaco off. Some of their platters are not so impressive, especially those with an overdose of tahini (Middle eastern plate comes to mind), but anything they serve with the word "thai" in it is usually pretty good.

YUM. This whole place is amazing. I got a delicious raw bowl...they sure do create magic! I also tried some house kombucha, SO much better than any kind you get in a bottle. My parents joined me - neither of them are vegetarians at all, but both enjoyed their meals. My mom got the hippie bowl and a juice (not sure what kind - it was green :) ) and my dad ended up getting the same thing as me after he tasted it! Yay for healthy, organic (and raw if you want it!) vegan food in a TOTALLY AWESOME space. I love the bathroom too....its a cool dual flush toilet!

I threw a surprise birthday for my partner this past weekend. I had about a week to finalize the details. I knew I had to find some catering options that were gluten free, dairy free & wheat free. No easy task! I had sent an email to another caterer that specialized in raw and organic foods. They were unable to accommodate my request but recommended that I contact Chaco Canyon Cafe. I'm so glad that I did! Their catering manager, Sarah, got back to me right away. Not only did she help me with a menu that catered to my partner's dietary needs, she also helped me pick out an AMAZING cake! Now... I'm probably more accommodating to varying tastes when it comes to my partners limiting food options... but let me tell you - the food was DELICIOUS. Thank you to Chaco Canyon Cafe & Sarah for your amazing work and delectable food. You come highly recommended!!!

I stumbled upon Chaco a few weeks ago and was delighted to find that it was a gluten-free sanctuary! They have a ton of gluten-free options (as well as vegan/vegetarian). The thai peanut bowl was rich in flavor and very filling. I also had one of the "raw" desserts, which was delicious. If you are looking for a sit down, slow moving restaurant, this is not the place. But it's perfect for lunch or a snack!

Seattle needs more locations of Chaco Canyon, specifically West Seattle... though there are rumors! If I could eat there every day, I would. Even though my orders generally are not 100% correct, that is ok because I have never been disappointed to a point to address it. Or maybe it is because I usually get it to go. Either way, I love Chaco Canyon.

Chaco Canyon is high quality energy food, every time I eat there I feel alive and invigorated. The raw pizza is so delicious you will be mystified as to how they create such a delicious meal... all raw!! My favorite drinks are the prickly pear concoction and lemonade spritzer. Every meal is great, the bowls, the salad, the soup... I seriously love it all. The food makes me so motivated, they take health to a new level. It's mind body spirit nourishment!

i remember this place from two years ago when it was located under cedars. i would always share the oatmeal with a friend on sunday mornings. this new place feels like the cafeteria at summer camp. that is, if your parents sent you to some yuppie vegan urban summer camp. you grab your own silverware and busk your own tables. here is a little known truth. not all vegan food is healthy food. for example, there is peanut butter and jelly on the menu. take that as you will but i feel that vegan comfort food is an abomination against all that is good and wholesome. there are some great healthy choices on the menu and i would certainly recommend this place after jogging the ravena park trail or biking greenlake. the obama poster bothers me a bit. a food review should not get political but her it goes: if the thought of obama makes you self conscious about your own spending habits or upsets your digestion in any way, you might want to seat yourself strategically so you don't have to look at him, like i did. because you should really stop worrying and enjoy the fresh vegetables. oh and the carrot cake is yummy.

My sister and I have been trying to go more organic and local. Found this place. So good. We both had the Artichoke Melts. Yummy. I thought they had a lot of great choices.

I have been coming here for 7 years, and it just gets better. The staff is friendly and committed to what they do. And no one ever grumbles at me when I make some high-maintenance special request. They really go out of the way to meet customer's needs, and while I am not vegetarian, vegan, gluten free or anything like that...I sure appreciate sustainable food that is lovingly prepared. I also appreciate the baker. The banana chocolate chip bread is to die for.

yum! All vegan, lots of raw options, fresh juice, great soups... my only complaint is that its too expensive for me to go to more often. I know you get what you pay for, and organic ingredients arent cheap, I just wish it was all free. My favorites are the tunaless melt and the pesto melt sandwiches. I want to eat more of the raw stuff but I just cant resist when I get to the front to order. The new location is great. Very spacious and airy. Once I had an apple turnover kind of thing and I was a little disappointed because the crust was too thick, there wasnt enough of the filling, which was very good... but when you pay $5 for a turnover it should be exceptional. Otherwise everything i've had has been awesome.

Reasonably priced, tasty, and healthy. I can't give a full review because I only had hot cereal vs. a 'real meal'. My dining companion had a sandwich which was described as "good, but about what you'd expect" and soup which received the verdict of "delicious". I'd stop by again if I happened to be in the neighborhood, but I probably wouldn't drive across town to eat here.

I recently had breakfast here with my son and liked it. It's roomy, sunny feel with a good vibe. The granola was tasty as was the smoothie. I certainly will come back when we visit Seattle again. We walked over to the Saturday morning farmers market after eating at Chaco Canyon. I've been to several farmers markets, but this one was incredible. The produce, flowers and cheeses looked great.

Being a Raw Vegan it can be hard to find a good restaurant. I really enjoy their raw pizza! They also have a great selection of Gluten Free items.

Excellent food, friendly service, and a step in the right direction for all restaurants. This is NOT heavy, comfort vegan food...it's light, sustainable, and delicious. All of us would do better to eat at home more...and when we eat out, spend the extra bucks to get the type of quality Chaco strives for. I only wish more restaurants would offer the organic options they have...I'd pay $2-4 extra per plate at a Thai restaurant to get organic veggies...unfortunately, there just aren't that many places offering really quality food in Seattle. At least we have Chaco!

Kiwi Lime Pie is where its at. Belly up to the bar at this Vegan Coffee shop/Cafe. An Emerald forest juice drink of cucumber, apple, celery, parsley, and mint. I've also had the Avocado and Tomato sandwich and found it to be divine. They are moving to a new location and I'm hoping for expanded service. I've seen their fancy dinner menus and know what they are capable of. (every few months they run a multi course raw food dinner, I want to say it runs $25-50 a person) Four stars because they are good, but I think they could be better.

With a cozy ambiance and good natured staff, Chaco Canyon Cafe seems like it should be a raw foodists dream. And, in some ways it is. The prices are good (meals under $8) and the options tantalizing (spinach lasagne, spicy thai grinder) ... but the dishes won't woo anybody who isn't familiar with raw foods. Perhaps I've been spoiled by the raw restaurants in other cities, but Chaco Canyon's food fell into the raw foods trap of "patty of ground up stuff on greens." Dedicated raw foodists will celebrate (the dishes are tasty and hearty), but those unfamiliar with the cuisine won't be swayed.

YUM! Opt for the "side salad" whenever possible. it is no ordinary side salad. The carrot cake is a nice attempt, but it is no replacement for the real thing. The Elvis smoothie is epic. Juices/smoothies with kale are surprisingly tasty, though watch out for the kale aftertaste. It's a doozy.

Since discovering this place via their coupon in the Chinook book, I've become a Chaco-holic! I have a weird diet due to multiple food allergies which makes eating out difficult. Thankfully Chaco Canyon has very knowledgeable staff and a binder that lists all the ingredients in everything that they serve to that I don't have to worry about hidden ingredients. The food is really good. I love the gluten-free baked goods and fresh juices. The broccoli bowl with peanut sauce is delicious as well as wholesome and filling. I feel invigorated after eating there! I also appreciate their commitment to the environment and the signage that proudly states their environmental policies and achievements. Try the Belly Rub, the mint and fennel bring out the best in the fresh apple juice.

Oh my! Chaco Canyon Cafe!! I love everything about this place! The owner and staff are amazingly proud of what they do. They are community based and seem to be finding new ways to continually be involved in gathering community together or networking. Here you will find delicious smoothies, fresh juice bar, soups, sandwiches, salads, incredible daily specials, even guest chef specials! Please, whatever you do, save room for desert! The raw cheesecake and chocolate vegan goodies are to die for! Raw, vegan, organic, gluten free, fresh, omg, they have it all. If you have an intolerance or wish to change an ingredient, the staff is always happy to oblige and they will go to the extended trouble (while making it seem like no trouble at all for them) to look up a list of ingredients if there is any question of how food is prepared. Chaco Canyon, first in our book for customer service and deliciousness on the extreme level! :)

If you're looking for a very healthy place to eat, this is the place to go. I'm fond of the hippie bowl with quinoa and extra veggies. It's cheap, tasty and fits the surrounds. I've actually spotted real hippies here. The place is nice and clean. The food is student priced.

Went here today, loved it. Tried Flying Apron and was thoroughly disappointed. Their gluten free muffins were bomb! Not dried out and nasty like that other place. Thai peanut bowl, also awesome. So delicious I'm considering being a veg.

I never met a bowl of soup I didn't like here. Or a sandwich, for that matter. And if you're looking for raw food...well, they have it, but everything I usually eat here is warm. Like their Thai peanut bowl. Yum. Yeah, so I could toss some bok choy in some peanut sauce over brown rice at home for less than $7, but hey, sometimes I want somebody else to do it. And I'm always extremely pleased with Chaco's performance. Last time I was there, I had the mushroom "ricotta" sandwich. Although the bread was falling apart a bit under the weight of the fillings, I didn't really care, 'cause it tasted so damn good!

When I'm looking for a light vegan meal in the U-District and not in the mood for Thai I usually end up at Chaco Canyon. The workers are always nice, and the place is clean. One of the nicer bathrooms I've seen at a restaurant. I usually order the pesto melt and would rate it as decent. I've had better, but not ones that were organic. Almost always go with one of the daily soups as a side. Do not order this if you just finished working out or you haven't eaten all day. It won't fill you up. In fact with most of the items I've ordered I feel the portions are a little small. I'm not a big guy, but I am active. I went in last week to order the Pesto Sandwich and they had raised the price. It was $12 with tax for take-out. IMO, that is way too much for so little food. I could eat in NYC for that price and probably get more food. I really want to like Chaco Canyon more, but the food isn't amazing, just good, but with higher prices it is become more difficult to convince myself to come here. ps. Why does a vegan place serve milk as an option in coffee? What's the difference with someone wanting cheese on a sandwich VS. milk in coffee? If you don't have one, why have the other? They both come from the same cow.

The food here is delish. And how many vegan/raw food places can you say that about? The pumpkin mole bowl was great. The artichoke melt was good tho the winter pesto sandwich was way better. I so loved their apple-raisin chutney on oatmeal that I devised my own recipe and have been eating it on a daily basis. I'd like to try everything on the menu. It's definitely not cheap but fair considering the product.

let me preface this review by saying, i'm not vegan, vegetarian, gluten free kinda of girl......so my review may not all be fair. This seemed like a good lunch spot so a friend and i decided to give it a try. I got the pesto melt with a cup of their curry soup. Her food got to her before mine; I waited, she ate, i waited some more, she ate more. by the time my food got to me she was done with her meal and i had just started mine. the pesto melt was ok, i like the toasted bread and the alfalfa sprouts in my sandwich, it was very light. The cup of curry soup was good and filling. overall, it was a light meal which is good because you don't want to return to work in a food coma but I didn't think it was worth the $12. most of the sandwich's there are like $9+, which in my opinion is quite spendy. I would go back, but only because i would like to try their desserts which were all lined up in the glass case.

Chaco is tugged away in the University District near the University of Washington. It is also surrounded by many vegan friendly restaurants. We decided to stop by Chaco Canyon Cafe for a quick bite on our trip to Vancouver, BC. Chaco Canyon is a cute little cafe with all vegan and raw food. They have a wide selection of soup, dessert, and sandwiches. The grilled vegan cheese and veggie chili is quite spicy. The vegan cheese is obviously store bought. The tunaless melt sandwich is toasted with alfafa bean sprouts, tomatoes, vegan cheese spices, cucumbers, and this mock tuna salad. It didn't taste that good. I've never had mock tuna salad, and I wonder if it is always so greasy. Most of their sandwiches are about $8 or more. I think that's a bit expensive for such small sandwich alone, without any drink or chips or even a pickle. Kinda lame.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! A great spot for those seeking a healthy, vegetarian meal, or delicious snack. I personally love the fresh juices, especially those with ginger, yum! Their soups are always delicious too, and I would highly recommend the cowboy cookies... :) Besides the food, the general feeling of the place is great too. It's bustling with people, well lit, and the furniture is all wooden and second-hand, adding a "homey " component to the ambiance. I go here all the time to check out the newest menu items and desserts!

Good healthy food if you make the right choices. They can supply you with binder with the ingredients that they use. It is simple and tastes good unless like most people you are used to eating the regular food. I would eat there everyday if I lived above the place.

Oh Chaco, how I love you! You never disappoint me. What is with the reviews about the unfriendly staff? Hello? Did you just step into Seattle? Haha... Kidding, kinda ;). I have never had a problem with the staff. They completely fit the Organic, vegetarian mold of Seattle, which I personally think is fine. You must, must, must try the Lentil Burger! It is exceptional. Trust me. Their fresh juices are out of this world and their coffee is very tasty. Leave room for a dessert! You will not be disappointed. Everything there is yummy... I'm glad I don't live near by, I would be so broke. This is also a cool spot to work on hw at or kick back and read a book.

I'm not a vegetarian but I do appreciate healthy organic food. The food at Chaco Canyon is so delicious and wonderful that you don't even miss the dairy/meat. I love the pure vegetable fresh juices - try Green Goddess and Granny's Garden - they're my favorite! I love the way I feel so energized after drinking these. This is my favorite lunch spot for soup, sandwiches and salads. I also love the friendly staff - they know me by name and they make me feel special!

    H. thinks raw food is a good idea. And vegan, when she can't have raw. And vegetarian, always. I've had mixed reactions, both from palate and from unmentionable digestive processes, to the raw meals we've shared, so I stuck to vegan during yesterday's lunch pilgrimage to Chaco Canyon. My pesto melt was incredible (the secret: Follow Your Heart vegan mozzarella, which actually melts and tastes yummy), the house salad dressing was a delicious change from my standard homemade olive oil balsalmic etc. concoction, and the juice I ordered was tasty, in spite of the name that made me cringe and feel embarassed to pronounce: the Tummy Tickle, or something along those lines (grapefruit/apple/lemon/ginger).

Wow, the new space is huge and beautiful! Giant windows, an actual breeze and plenty of seating. It wasn't that busy when we went, but the kitchen and servers were right on top of everyones food. It's an order a the counter, and seat yourself kind of place. The food is still tasty, diverse and not reliant on faux-meats! I actually feel good after eating here. Ignore the name "hippy bowl" and just order it, try the half sized for under 5$ and enjoy the quinoa love. I can't believe their raw food menu, I need to eat here more, why is it so far away from me??

I've never eaten here, but have to give them credit for turning me on to the whole soy milk thing. Two weeks ago, I went here for hot chocolate after spotting an absurd line at Tully's. They asked what type of milk I wanted, and before I could say "skim" they offered the choice of dairy or soy. Oh! Well why not try soy? So I did, and yum. I have not tried hot chocolate with milk since, as the soy here not only saves me money, but leaves me feeling a lot better and with more energy.

Prime time lunch hour can be a little slow, but they're reworking their kitchen area to improve their efficiency and expand their menu selection. I'm a big fan of their "Ruben" sandwich and hot soups. Their produce is always fresh and their dishes tasty. If you're curious about a particular menu item the staff happily answer questions and make suggestions. In addition to great food Chaco tires to buy local and compost their food waste.

So I'm not even a vegan or vegetarian and I LOVE this restaurant!!!!Whenever I need a pick me up or are in the mood for some fresh organic food, I go to Chaco. The staff is always awesome and helpful. One of my very favorites is the spicy thai grinder. I especially love their juices, the raw carob pie and their salads. I've loved every single thing I've tried at Chaco!!

If you're on the raw-on-Tuesday, veggie-only-on-Wednesday, wheat-free-on-Friday eating lifestyle, then Chaco Canyon is your place. I used to eat at a lot of different restaurants, but I must say that eating at Chaco is always my first choice now. The food is amazing. It tastes good, it's made with care and love, and all the weird eating habits you can think of are accommodated. The Pesto Melt and Avocado and Tomato sandwiches are my favorites. They come with yummy wild greens salad, or soup, or slaw and chips. Chaco is super green: they recycle, compost, and don't put ice in your water. It's nice to feel good about eating well. And even though it may take some time, (good food shouldn't be rushed) it is worth it. Try the Raw Tropique smoothie...nothing but goodness. And when you are all full up, go next door to The Flying Apron for some yummy, wheat-free, 'wow this tastes so good,' desserts.

Slow service + good vegan food = not my first choice of restaurants. I feel so healthy and proud of myself when I eat here. They have more choices of raw foods than most places and the dishes are usually tasty. The wait staff tends to forget that they have customers so don't expect super service here and the delay in getting the food will get a bit tiring so don't be in a hurry.

TOTALLY overpriced and under flavored. Such a drag when I traveled 2.5 hours expecting something I could not make at home. Bummer.

It's.... expensive. And I've been to a lot of vegetarian and/or organic cafes. Two small freaking muffins here sets you back $7. That's before coffee, folks. BUT the staff are always friendly, the food is high quality, and it's a really nice cafe space. Good array of stuff on the menu. I only wish it was affordable for multiple times a week.

Came here for a 1pm lunch date with some friends. We tried the the Egyptian Red Lentil soup. It was KILLER!!!! Seriously, just get this with rice or cous cous and it'll fill you up! I'm a big lady, I know good soup; this stuff is addictive. Great flavor and just enough heat to give ya a little kick. We also tried a sandwich, the Banh Mi Bowl, a make your own bowl (rice, carrots, cashews and peanut sauce) the ice tottie with milk and the ginger lemonade spritzer. The drinks were great! Very refreshing! The Banh Mi Bowl was meh, there is a drizzle of pesto on the tofu, very weird. Not bad, just not at all expected or stated on the menu item description and the taste was different then traditional Banh Mi. The build your own bowl is a great concept. Sad the tofu only comes cold, but understandable since it's a more raw-type restaurant. I'd come here again for the soup in a heart beat, that stuff is SO SO SO DELICIOUS! Also, had no problem asking for cow's milk for the ice tottie, no snootiness at all from anyone about it.

I've been to this particular Chaco Canyon maybe a dozen times since my last review (I frequent both locations), and have I say the staff is always quick, efficient, and friendly to the lunch time rushes of UW students and neighboring business casual crowds they get. I often get one of their salads or grain bowls with a juice shot or Detox juice. I've experienced a couple of trips now where my juice has been delivered and I've been told "well, we accidentally made too much and thought you'd rather drink the extras. Enjoy!" I like that I can eat a filling and healthy lunch without wanting to take a nap afterwards.

I am probably not the target audience for this place, but I've had much better vegetarian food. The lentil soup was too sour and essentially tasted like minestrone. The egg free spinach and mushroom quiche was odd and the crust wasn't very impressive. The one redeeming quality though was the coconut nog latte. That drink was delicious. I suppose I'm being harsh and obviously I don't "get it," but I've been to other cafes that specialize in vegetarian food. They do a better job of crossing over to crass, evil non-vegans like myself, simply by virtue of balancing texture, salt, sour, and sweet flavors with more grace.

I brought family here (all veg) & they loved it! I had the Red Lentil Soup & my Aunt had a Curry Hubbard Squash Soup - both were wonderful. The squash soup was nice & spicy. The molasses bread was really good. My Uncle had the enchilada which he also enjoyed. We shared a cowboy cookie (really good!) & a gingerbread cookie (good but too sweet w/ the frosting). I also love that they are sustainable & environmentally friendly - a huge + in my book. I think they should build one in Bellingham so we have good place to eat when I visit. For dessert we went to Full Tilt & had vegan ice cream :-)

Dudes. This place is so good! Everything we ordered was delicious. They claim to have the best veggie burger in Seattle, and it's certainly the best I've tried. The cranberry lemon cheesecake was amazing! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and great with my kiddo. We'll be back!

Chaco Canyon is my go-to for healthy and delicious food. At first it may seem pricey but that's because the food is vegan and organic. I love the avacado sandwich with a cinnamon hemp latte for lunch. Their wifi is solid and strong which is very important for me. They have fresh juicing, tasty soups and salads, and amazing sandwiches. Everyone needs to check it out at least once!

  • Alysha G.

Chaco Canyon is everything that is right with small businesses in this world! This restaurant is a great atmosphere for if you want to meet with a friend, or if you want to be by yourself and study or work. I love how they support and are involved in the community. Their staff is always kind and patient... some people take EONS to order food, but I never see the cashier people get frustrated or anything like that. All of this aside - the food is delicious and makes you feel GOOD. I have a lot of food sensitivities so there are few restaurants that I can eat out at and still feel good when I leave. It is a bit on the pricey side - but as I always say, your health is a long-term investment!

Every seattleite-healthnut-hippster-yelpster has to try this place out. This is the kind of brunch that I've been looking for. I'm not vegan but I love nuts/veggies/cafe style meals. This place serves soups, salads, rice bowls, noodles and a long list of smoothies. I couldn't decide on what to order so I asked the cashier what was most popular. She suggested the salad/entree combos and I went with her first suggestion and chose the Raw Enchiladas..it had a little bit of everything! the salad was dressed with a light sesame dressing. I love that it had a mix of sprouts/carrots/red onions over it. The enchiladas were so tasty that I had to check the menu on my way out to find out how they made the cheese: it was with cashews. geniuses! and the tomato tortilla was made from flaxseed which gave it a nuttier chewier texture than regular flour tortilla. so different from anything I've ever had! -love the outdoor tables for people watching too.

Chaco is a great place to order a coffee and pastry and work on your computer. Sometimes it can be a little noisy or hot in there, but the big windows and plants make it a wonderful spot to hang out. I really appreciate their variety of gluten-free, raw and/or vegan snacks. I think it is also the only place in the UD where you can get a genuinely healthy meal. The tofu-scramble sandwich loaded with mushrooms and sprouts makes a great breakfast, and soup with quinoa and a side salad make a satisfying and healthy lunch or dinner. There are also lots of treats for vegans (crepes, burgers, BLTs) which are probably not-so healthy. Come here for a smoothie in the summer or a really intense hot-juice loaded with ginger and garlic when you have a cold in the winter.

  • Becca C.

Marry me, Chaco. I love you! I always spend a bit too much here, but the high quality, nutritious food is always worth it. Dudes. The peanut sauce is amazing. The servers are always kind, respectful and endlessly patient with modifications, allergies and general food weirdness.

If you're a vegetarian that's hankering' for the sumptuousness that only a meaty burger would suffice, but is not within reach because the laws of vegetarianism prevents it, there's an alternative: try their Lentil burger. It's tasty and fulfilling - a quality other vegetarian burgers lack, but like most restaurants serving organic fare, it is a litttle more expensive than other restaurants on the Ave. The store front on the corner street is pleasing to look at. I wish they were opening longer hours.

If you've read my Veggie Grill review, you'll remember how much I really super want to not eat meat. I want lab meat! I want fake stuff. Alas, I'm so weak, you guys, but this year I'm making a conscious effort to eat a lot less meat with the hope that I can kind of casually taper it off until one day I wake up and realize I haven't eaten meat in seventeen years and I never realized it. I did it before. I'll do it again. Places like Chaco Canyon make this utopian future seem even more possible. The food is SO GOOD and so fresh and delicious and it makes you feel amazing after you eat it. My body is one of those that rejects dairy and other delicious things, often without warning, so having a huge satisfying meal and feeling even better afterward is a pretty rare occurrence. It happens here. We tried the burger, the jerk chili, the fake-bacon-hummus sandwich, and the salad, plus the mango mint smoothie (INCREDIBLE, SACRE BLEU) and a delicious juice with beets and orange and carrots and whatever else. Everything was eaten. It took awhile for the food and it did cost several thousand spacebucks but it was totally worth it. The menu is extensive and there seems to be something for everyone. Several rotating soups, about a thousand different baked goods. There was a sensitive, plaintive sign in the bathroom asking people not to tag the walls since they're already on your side here. The music is exactly what you'd expect. The staff are nice and seem to like being there and like each other. If I was rich I'd eat there every day, or just hire the people who work there to come cook for me at home. I'm not, so I'll only go there every once in awhile, but it's so worth it. Not sure what a black bean brownie is about but I'd probably go there.

Had I known I was going to visit Chaco Canyon with my vegan friend on my trip to Seattle, perhaps I would have worn my chacos, which would have been a godsend on an uncharacteristically warm and sunny northwest weekend. Chaco canyon was a pleasant breakfast and lunch spot. They featured tasty pastries and smoothies. As an omnivore, I was disappointed with their tofu/eggless-centric breakfast menu; I arrived famished and eagerly anticipating my favorite meal of the day. However, since I eat eggs daily (I raise chickens), I was bummed they were not on the menu, although dairy milk was an option for coffee drinks. harumph. put me on a desert island with one animal product, it would be eggs. anyhow... my companions' tofu dishes DID look great: lots of veggies and sides of chia pudding and lavender scone (both of which were delicious). i would definitely pick this place if i was in the mood for a tofu scramble, or for lunch.

I come to this place all the time and love it. The food is fantastic and my favorite sandwich is the Mighty Mofo. The atmosphere is great, and they provide free wifi. The smoothies, teas and drinks are also wonderful. And the people are really friendly and nice! Good vibes at this place :)

If the prices were a little cheaper, I would probably give 5 stars, but for the quality, it's worth the money! I go there frequently to eat a meal that is fresh, veg, maybe even raw. I love the options, if you're feeling like a gluten-free sandwich, hot soup, fresh juice, coffee - and they don't charge for alternative milks (soy, etc)! I even came the other night for dinner, (raw enchiladas) and had a glass of wine which was delicious and not expensive at all. The goddess sandwich, enchiladas and anything with their fresh sprouts are my favs. Love love this place!

Chaco Canyon is one of my favorite places. It is one of the few veggie/vegan place that offer gluten free options. All of their food is amazing and delicious ( I'm neither vegetarian nor vegan) and most of all their smoothies are to die for. If you like peanut butter try their Elvis peanut butter banana smoothie ( with hemphmilk!) I suppose, I'm okay with their laid back NW environment but I wouldn't mind if they changed their interior to make it more cozy and homey (with a little more art and fluffy cushions ?) Over all friendly customer service on top of the self service. I'd recommend chaco canyon anyway and i hope there will be another location in Downtown area.

At first I was weary of this place. No meat? How can it be good? And I was wrong. The food was delicious! I got an artichoke melt with a side of a spinach salad. The artichoke with the cashew butter was so tasty. Even the crunchy sourdough was a great complement to what was in between the slices of bread. I have no idea what was the dressing on the spinach salad but I could not get enough. The hot cocoa was great especially since there were about 5 choices other than milk I could mix with the beverage. For dessert we had this fudge that was pure bliss. The only miss was the mango lime tapioca. Not sure if the mango was supposed to taste like that or it went sour. Sad. If I go back to Seattle, I'd totally come here again. Great atmosphere, delicious food with a conscious. Check out the black board. Ridiculously neat penmanship.

Great restaurant with a great philosophy. The ambiance is very inviting and warm. The staff who took our order was patient and knowledgeable when answering questions we had about some of their menu items. I got the artichoke melt and my friend got the eggless spinach mushroom quiche, both served warm and was very delicious! I ordered a mocha with hemp milk to go after I finished eating and was very happy with my order. It's nice to finally have a place that doesn't only offer soy and/or almond milk as their alternatives. They also had coconut-rice milk as another option. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their other menu items. They really do try to cater to people who can't or choose not to eat certain foods, from gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, etc, I'm sure anyone with any nutritional restrictions can find something they can enjoy on the menu!

Came in today for lunch with FH (future hubby) and tried the gluten free sweet potato biscuits w/ gravy and the thai peanut bowl. Holy moly were they delicious-the Thai peanut had so much great flavor and yummy spiciness; the sweet potato biscuits were moist and tender with a rosemary, white bean gravy that made us forget all about that "other white gravy." We'll be returning and next time getting dessert! I must say the only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the price. It was a little spendy. But!! You have to remember the more you need it or the more beneficial it is for you, the more expensive it's going to be. That's why processed crap is cheap, and organic, whole food is a little more costly.

Try them for breakfast, well that's what we did! The tofu eggs were really good and so was the mocha I got. The best part is this place is dairy free, hooooray!

Traveling and happy to find this spot. Love the feel of this spot. Coffee tasted great. Here for breakfast, menu includes hard cider, beers and wines. Quiche for me, with lentil soup, partner ordered crepe special, gluten free. Savory and delicious. Will likely return before this trip is over

One of my favorite places to eat in Seattle. The food is organic with veg, gluten free and raw options. Great juices, smoothies, sweets, bowls, sandwiches, soups and breakfast with a nice casual vibe all the way around. The Egyptian Lentil is a delicious standard on the menu. I love the Artichoke Melt! I've never had a bad meal here. Staff is friendly and there is outdoor seating :). Love this place!

This place is so delicious! It's like half cafe and half restaurant. Raw vegan foods give me high energy and happy vibes! I'm a flexitarian. If you love eating healthy and want to escape from unhealthy foods come here! A fantastic place to meet new vegan people and do homework!

Had a salad at this place and it was great, but what was killer was the fresh juice and Raw Brownie! The first thing I look for when I am on vacation is somewhere to get a yummy healthy meal, and this place hit the spot. Parking was kind of a pain, but other than that it was an all around great experience.

Artichoke melt sandwich is amazing. Best black bean burger in Seattle according to me as well. ;) Food takes a while to come out, but it is worth the wait!

The menu is quintessential Seattle with its vegan options, locally grown ingredients, and fusion dishes. The menu is filled with healthy options that are personalized and delish! The only downside is the lack of parking and super sketchy neighborhood (stay inside to avoid anything).

Great delicious organic options. Juice/smoothie small is probably 4-8oz less than a small at Thrive or Whole Foods (and less expensive) so if you are seeking a boost and not a meal, this is a great spot.

I LOVE Chaco Canyon. The food is appropriately priced since you get fairly large portions. I typically get a Thai Peanut Bowl and a Choco-Maca or Mango Mint Dream smoothie. I've also had the Hippie Bowl, some baked goods, and a few other smoothies -- all of which were yummy. I've never walked out anything less than stuffed. To clarify, I don't mean the "disgustingly full and I want to kill myself" kind of stuffed, more like "I'm happy and I won't need to eat again for awhile." My boyfriend, who typically dislikes "healthy" or organic food, will beg for a bite of my food/smoothie. Bathrooms are always clean and well-stocked (definite plus.) Overall I can't think of anything to complain about, except I wish this place was down the street instead of in the U-district! 5 stars all da way!!!!

I live right next to this place and can't help but stop here all the time!! My personal favorite is Gluten Free French Toast & their Hazelnut cookies are to die for. Not to mention the customer service here is rad. Hard to find a true organic cafe where the employees aren't pretentious vegan police.

I usually really love this place but last week witnessed an employee give lackluster concern when a child was hurt, due to unclear "wet floor" signs. I watched as the child's mom told the staff what happened and how the child hit his head. To which she was told that it was the responsibility of the property management staff to take care of that and then the individual walked off. Really unfortunate response for a place that is usually kind and approachable.

If I could only choose one restaurant for the rest of my life in Seattle, it would be Chaco Canyon. Their food is nourishing, delicious, and so very satisfying. Everything is organic, which Is wonderful, and while I am vegan, my wife is not and she loves it too!

On our last day in Seattle, we headed over to U-Disrict, that is University District for you non-Seattle people, to eat at Chaco Canyon. Chaco Canyon is an organic vegan cafe that offers an amazing raw and cooked food menu. They say they are 100% vegan, but they offer cow's milk for coffee so they are really about 98% vegan -- they get a thumbs down for that one. But, other than that, I have no other beef with them. :) Upon walking in, we were impressed with the unique Southwestern decor and impressively high ceilings. It gave the somewhat small cafe a feeling of grandeur! We walked up to the counter and spent some time perusing the menu before actually placing our orders. It appeared that they had nearly as much raw food as cooked food making it so hard to choose! From lentil burgers and pesto melts to raw green coconut curry and raw cilantro pesto pizza, their menu was extensive. When we finally decided, I went the raw route and ordered the Enchilada Plate while Zach went the cooked route with the Mighty Mofo. We took a number and had a seat at our choice of tables. I had also ordered a Starving Student juice, which was fresh carrot, celery, parsley and ginger for $3.15. The juice had way too much celery though leaving a harsh aftertaste and making it too watery. About 10 minutes later, our meals were served and they tasted as scrumptious as they looked. My raw enchilada plate had spiced zucchini with avocado and other veggies along with fresh herbs and cashew cheese in a raw tomato tortilla. The tortilla was topped with mango pico de gallo and fresh cilantro. It was a great mix of flavors. Everything was so fresh -- from the cashew cheese to the salsa -- it all tasted like it had just been made. The fresh salad it was paired with was great as well. It was delicious. Zach was also very happy with his Mighty Mofo. This was a reuben sandwich made of housemade seitan, sauerkraut, grain mustard, cucumbers, and sprouts. It wasn't your typical reuben, but it sure was delicious. Zach said it was the best vegan reuben he'd ever had. I must say that I liked it too. As we were walking out, we also bought a raw espresso truffle and a couple pieces of banana bread. They were yummy as well. This cafe served some of the best food we had in Seattle during our short stay. At $11 - $13 per plate, the entrees and sandwiches weren't cheap, but they were appropriately priced given the quality of the food. By the time we left, there was a long line almost to the door so this place must be a local favorite. I would highly recommend going here for lunch the next time you are in Seattle. I know I will definitely be back.

I have celiac and need to eat gluten-free. Awesome food! Loved the smoothies and the food, the peanut Thai bowl in particular I had was superb. They create GF food in a separate area of the kitchen. I'm quite sensitive, went there 3 times and no reaction. (same review on findmeglutenfree)

Amazing place with amazing food. It's easy to find parking and enjoy this place, that is representative of everything great in Seattle. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, good/healthy meals, great coffee; and a cozy place to catch up with friends. Definitely recommend to locals and visitors a like. Their raw bowls are delicious, but so is everything else on their menu!

Disclaimer: We are not vegan or even vegetarian but enjoy vegetarian options just as much as those with meat so we are not disposed to dislike the food here. My boyfriend and I are in the process of moving out of the Link Apartments located above this cafe. While it's terrific to have a source of coffee less than 2 minutes walk away, we've found that convenience just isn't enough. We tried the cowboy cookie which was dry and okay. They have lots of pastries in the glass display case in front, but I'm not much of a sweets fiend, so I tried the empanada one day before work which was pleasantly less greasy than you'd ever expect pastry to be but it was way too sweet for a savory snack. The chocolate banana bread was the only thing we tried that was pretty good which we grabbed for a coffee companion one weekend. The food here could be surprisingly good and we'll eventually get there to try an entree. For now, this cafe needs to re-think the efficiency of its ordering process. It could do with either a self service coffee station or a separate line just for people passing by who want a coffee drink. If there's a food order ahead, if the customer has questions about the food, it can take quite a few minutes to get to the head of the line just to order a drip coffee. We've had to walk out twice now because the line wasn't moving. We'd be more than happy to give this place a 3 or more if they could fix this one piece.

I have talked this place up since I moved to Seattle three months ago. I cant say enough good things about this place. The restaurant is cute and spacious, but cozy and warm. Every single time I have been here, I find that the staff are just so dang nice and happy! They have really good customer service and that is important to me. I don't enjoy my food, if I don't enjoy the place. This is a vegetarian joint. I am not vegetarian. I keep coming back..... ....the food is just that good. Everything I have tried (some again and again) is fresh, artfully prepared, and the portions are large. The lentil bean burger (extra sauce for me!) it what I recommend to everybody. They also have a lentil soup, that tastes like chicken noodle! Try their Dirty Chai. I promise you wont regret it, it is like a heavenly cloud came down to live in your mouth. Also I saw a vaguely familiar late 90's celebrity there. It MUST be a cool place, right! Try the food, you wont regret it

I crave this place everyday! They have the yummiest stuff. Kind of expensive, but I understand why, because most of the ingredients are expensive and they use nothing but quality. I am gluten free, but ate gluten bread there and did not get sick at all. That says something about their quality of food.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Seattle for juices, full spectrum vegan meals that leave you drenched with satisfaction and flavor. My favorite hot drink is the Flu buster, which I get whether I'm under the weather or not. Lovely elegant and down-home at the same time. A ritual for the busy week. A treat for the diet challenged. And they have incredible sweets and espresso for those days too. Do not miss!

This will hopefully be only the first of many reviews of this place. Since we do not reside in Seattle, it may take some time to gather more information. So far I have not been able to try the lunch/dinner options. But our dining companion speaks very highly of every single dish on the menu. Being a Seattle resident, he has made this place a staple in his eating ritual. I, personally, have to go on & on about my very first cheesecake experience in over two years. And oh my was it a memorable one. Our very first official meal in Seattle was arranged by a vegan friend, who was mindful of our location, & my food intolerances. So we met at a spot called Chaco Canyon Cafe. For some reason I was not hungry (which is a rarity), so I labored over which of the many items on the menu I should have. Eventually it occurred to me that they had CHEESECAKE, & it was cheesecake that I could actually EAT. I then knew that my "dinner" would be dessert. The cheesecake was amazing. Not only could I tell no difference from my beloved memory of past cheesecakes (which were full of gluten AND dairy). But this was amazingly good. My partner (who is a gluten AND dairy eater) tried it as well, & totally agreed with me. It was beyond just a decent dessert. It was addictive. And the best thing is, I ate 3/4 of it, & did not feel the least bit ill, or as if I had overindulged (which would have happened three bites into a regular piece of cheesecake). We look forward to heading back, trying more things on the menu, AND OF COURSE, having more cheesecake.

Love how pretentious these people are. They look at you like you slaughtered the cow when you ask for dairy creamer for your coffee (if you hate people using it, don't have it!!!) but then you see their employees in the alley behind their restaurant smoking cigarettes! And the creamer is bad? Idiots. The only thing I liked about the place (because I won't go back due to their hypocritical nature) is their apple vinaigrette for their highly overpriced salad. That's it.I'll get my coffee somewhere (anywhere) else.

We ordered tofu scrambled sandwich with squash soup. We had come to this place once before and that time we ordered vegetarian sandwich which was good and had some nice flavors. However our latest experience with tofu scrambled sandwich was really bad. Tofu seemed to be stinking and we could barely eat a byte from it. We had to ultimately throw it away and would not visit the place in near future.

I am a paleo/raw food dieter, and this is ine of the few restaurants I can eat at. I come here every now and then to have the ginger sesame bowl (100% paleo-friendly). It's a pretty big portion that will keep you full (trust me - I am one of those bottomless stomach folks who rarely feels full). They also have housemade kombucha, but it tastes too sugary for me (they probably add sugar after brewing). They have a range of other vegan options, but I can't comment on that because I'm not vegan. I can't eat the desserts they serve here, but I must say they look quite delicious. You bus your own table here.

This cafe has amazing food and drinks, but don't expect fast service when you come in. It can take up to 30 minutes to receive your meal. But! This isn't necessarily a bad thing. The atmosphere is very warm and comfortable, and it's a great place to kick back and relax for a while. Their lentil burger, avocado sandwich, red lentil soup and artichoke melt are some of my personal favorite items on the menu. They're all fresh, filling, and packed with flavor-- not to mention extraordinarily good for you! Their fresh juices are terrific too, but be warned-- the menu is a la carte and your bill can rack up fast if you go for a sandwich, a cup of soup and a juice. I'd definitely recommend Chaco Canyon as a great place for delicious, healthy eats and a coffee or study date.

I would like to come here again and truly get to know the joint before I write an indepth review. I must say that the atmosphere is friendly and casual, the food both filling and delicious without making you feel like you're eating without meat. I also liked the organic hard cider they had available ;) Worth a second (and hopefully third, fourth, fifth... well you get my point) visit!

Prior to watching Star Trek Into Darkness, boyfriend wanted to make a pit stop at this place because he was "craving" fresh juice. He recently restarted juicing, and I've done it in the past, so I was game for a fresh juice drink. And, why not? They're absolutely tasty, despite people's lack of knowledge or misconceived notions about them. After feeling pressured to choose a drink (because there was a line and boyfriend placed his order already), I selected the Immune Boost drink which consisted of: Apple, pear, carrot, celery, parsley, ginger. (Small was $5.65). It was absolutely delightful! The ginger was a great addition to this drink. I think boyfriend ordered the Green Cleanse drink (Cucumber, celery, kale, parsley, spinach, lemon) and poured some of my drink into his (because, although he didn't say it; I think it wasn't sweet enough for him!) I also ordered a gluten-free chocolate chip muffin and it tasted just as yummy. I know, it defeats the purpose of ordering my drink, but, I needed something solid in my tummy that I could inhale prior to catching the movie. We were under time-constraint, if I didn't make note of that earlier. The place has an open-feel to it and it also has an outdoor seating. We didn't get to try the food but, I'm sure it's just as delicious, particularly because they offer organic foods, as well as gluten-free items! The parking is all street parking, so, good luck with that. If you're going to place an order to-go, there's a 3 minute parking space near the restaurant. You should definitely try this place out, even if you're having doubts about fresh juices. They also offer smoothies, so, you can try that out first and then graduate to the fresh juices!

Normally I love this place. It's a little pricey, but the meals are delicious and the service is usually great. But today, service was a little disappointing. I ordered my meal and sat outside on the patio, but when the server brought me my food, I realized I had forgotten to grab a fork. My fault, I know. I get the self service concept. But at this point I was already comfortably seated with my books and stuff on the table, so I asked the server for a fork, but instead of quickly grabbing it for me, she just told me where I could get it myself. So, I had to pack up all my stuff and go back in for a little fork. A missed opportunity for good customer service.

First of all, I'm not a vegetarian, neither is my husband nor the other two adults we went here with tonight. We decided to try something new and, honestly, we were all expecting it to be half awful, because we have no experience with vegetarian or gluten free type restaurants. It was fantastic. The atmosphere was great (for some reason we really loved all the plants), the food was delicious! Not "delicious for vegetarian ", actually delicious! Great selection, "create your own" type options, and yummy desserts. A few random things I didn't know til I got there: 1. You order at the counter (it says that there but there's a lot of words on the walls and I didn't see it at first.) 2. You clear the table yourself. 3. The lentil burger is to die for. 4. They have wine and beer selections. Organic, local, delicious, sustainable... I will definitely go back!

After a long hard work out I was too tired too cook, but wanted to eat something healthy. This place is PERFECT!! I think Vegan gets a bad rep as being not tasty or flavorful, but I can assure you that was not the case here. I initially went in wanting to get a salad. I saw beautiful pictures on yelp of big, bright, and, colorful salads. Then when i went in the specials menu caught my eye. I ordered the Banh Mi Bowl, which came with vermicelli, pickled carrots and cucumber, peanuts, and tofu. I really wanted a smoothie and they have an extensive list. You can also BYO smoothie! I asked the cashier for a recommendation and she suggested a mango something. Tropical, fruity, and also had greens in it. I was surprised to see how thick the smoothie was when I got it. The small is very small. Kind of disappointing because it was about $5-6. Yes eating healthy comes with a fancy price tag. The smoothie was delicious nonetheless. The banh mi bowl was very tasty! I would say it had a little bit too much vinegar, which for me is saying a lot because i really enjoy the taste of it. It came with lots of veggies and about 4 good size pieces of tofu. I was full at the end and felt good about my healthy choices. The place is cute looking cafe. You bus your own tables and grab your own silverware, napkins, and straws. They have free wifi which is great! I saw a few people with their laptops out studying. Since it's close to UW I assume a good amount of the customers are students. I had no issue finding street parking either. Free after 8 pm. Definitely a great place to eat and feel good about your healthy choice.

Very yummy veggie filled food. Their house kombucha was great! When I went it was blueberry rooibos. I had their raw "noodles", they were quite flavorful. I must say that they were not very filling... It was a bit pricey, but it's nice organic food, so I suppose that makes sense.

Love this organic cafe. It's so warm and cozy when you first enter it. Don't be puzzled, menus are by the register and you order and pay at the front first. Then they'll give you a number and you take a seat. They'll bring you your food and then you bus your own table afterwards. I had two October special items. The butternut sage soup and the apple braised salad. Both were so delicious. The salad had a great lemon vinaigrette and the apples were spiced up well. The walnuts had a sweet flavor adding a lot of flavor to the salad. And the soup was wonderful. Sweet but you could also taste the sage. It was warm and hearty. I got the cup because the bowl is huge! The cup and salad filled me up quite nicely. They have a lot of desserts in the front that are vegan and gluten free. They look so good! Definitely recommend this place even if you are just there to study. It's warm, cozy and there's also free wifi.

I've been wanting to try this place for forever as I love rice and quinoa bowls and juices! I came with a friend and I really liked the Saturday morning energy of this spot. I for the small morning green juice and the small Thai peanut brown rice bowl. I really liked that they came in different sizes. I also thought it was cool that they let you build your own bowl which is what my friend did. My brown rice bowl came with spinach, tofu, peanuts, peanut sauce and cabbage and was very enjoyable. My juice was great as well and I am adding this as one of my new favorite brunch spots in the U-Dist!

I've been to a few different organic coffee shops but this one is truly amazing. Everything was delicious and the bakery items were so incredible and delicious, but that wasn't it, it felt like a real cafe, a cute little hole in the wall. Like a mini restaurant where everything is fresh and delicious and the aura was so beautiful. It's also one of the only places I've been able to order a mate latte and that in itself was delicious. 100% would recommend to anyone, my new favorite place!

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Found this place by just coincidence in early 2014 and I've been going back ever since! I follow the Paleo lifestyle and I have a few diff allergies so it's so nice to be able to dine-out and be eating healthy. They have alot of selections on their menu BUT the main reason why I go there is because of their desserts - Gluten, soy, sugar and dairy free! Yes, the menu items are on the pricier side but its so worth! We'v been to both of their locations and the staff is great, the green juice always taste good, the food is marvelous and the desserts are to die for! AND like I said, I follow the Paleo lifestyle so by no means am I vegan but it tastes so good, you'll never know you're missing meat!

Highly recommended vegan friendly restaurant. I have been to the West Seattle Chaco once and University location twice. Food isn't strictly vegan but there are loads of vegan options. I love the Mofo (Reuben) Sandwich and the raw enchiladas. Service is quite good and overall aesthetic of the decor is interesting and very West Coast. I look forward to checking out more of of their vegan dishes in the future.

A chill cafe, friendly staff! I had the roasted yam and kale quinoa bowl as well as yummy juice that had mint and pineapple in it. The two other friends with me really enjoyed their meal as well, one had the veggie burger and the other had a kale tart. For dessert, I snatched up a chocolate hazelnut cookie!

This café is unique in their eco-friendliness, and has tons of great vegetarian and vegan options! If you're eco-friendly, you'll definitely be entertained by some of the things they have up on their walls and around the café. Plus, the food is pretty good. My friend loved her vegetarian burger, and my vegan enchilada was pretty good (though personally since I'm only vegetarian, it would have tasted better with cheese, but well, everything tastes better with cheese!).

Recently had breakfast here. So yummy! The French toast was fantastic - their own home made gluten free bread, and no eggy taste. Then, on the recommendation of the cashier, I tried the tempeh bacon. Not a fan of tempeh, and vegetarian bacon is disappointing in general. The recommendation was spot on. The texture was crispy, and the flavor was very tasty. I have been looking for a good breakfast place and this is now the one.

I used to be an over the top health nut, but even though I've found a better balance I still love a great place to get organic food! The choices here are vast, with lunch and breakfast items along with extensive juices and smoothies. I ordered the tofu scramble sandwich, which was served on a nicely toasted wheat bread. The scramble itself had the consistency of an egg scramble with a slightly curried flavor. I usually hate sprouts, but the bed of sprouts on top of the scramble added a light freshness to the spices of the scramble. I also had the really green smoothie, which was so much better priced than what I'm used to in the SF Financial District! I loved that I could taste the deep greens as well as the slight natural sweetness of the fruit. My friend ordered the hippie bowl, which came with quinoa, sprouts, carrots, tofu, and then drizzled with tahini sauce. All mixed together, it's definitely a dish that only health nuts can really appreciate. With that said, I loved the dish and its heartiness. I wish there was a place like Chaco Canyon in the UC Berkeley area because I'd be there all the time! Fresh and healthy ingredients make for a satisfying meal any time.

My first time coming to Chaco was with a group of 5. I love the order at the counter, we'll bring it out, type service when you have a large group. They were very friendly and efficient and all of us received our food pretty close together. The food was great. I had the granola. Yum! The smoothies were delightful. My friend's quiche was only so-so, as was the porridge. But the tofu scramble sandwich was BOMB. The organic aspect and how many different food allergies they cater to makes this an excellent option at a good price. I will 100% become a regular here!

First of all the 4 stars is in the context of a VEGAN restaurant. It is not 4 stars out of all the brunch places in Seattle, at least not in terms of flavor. Secondly, vegan food is EXPENSIVE. Always and everywhere. The reasons for this are that it is local, organic, fair trade, and if there is dairy it is "humanely" produced. I had a very small smoothie, the belgian waffle, and a large lemonade. $25 with tip. Quality food is expensive as it should be. That being said I enjoyed my meal vastly. I asked the server if the maco-chaco smoothie was good and I really wish she'd warned me about the earthiness of it. But the waffle was better than most dairy based. I also liked the hash but wish they would use whole potatoes instead of making the hash all mashy. The rest of the day I felt like I was running on clean energy. Everyone should try veganism at least for a while for your body's sake if nothing else. And having a place like Chaco Canyon makes it easy.

Chaco Canyon isn't perfect, but it's the idea that they try to live out their ideals that's so important. They have a full, huge menu with burgers, soups, bowls, appetizers, smoothies, juices, coffees, desserts.... and for a poor little vegan to go in there and look up at the choices on the menu board, it can be overwhelmingly beautiful. The head cook told me some people just stand in front of the counter and cry. That said, dishes can be hit or miss. Read through the reviews before you go in so you know what's good. I recommend the soups (hard to mess up), the lentil burger (voted best veggie burger in Seattle), most of the salads except the cuke and seaweed salad, the green green green smoothie and the green goddess juice. And if you're like me and always looking forward to the next hemp milk latte, be sure to get it here because they know how to make it well. I actually would give the place 5 stars because it's in a class of its own as the premier organic vegan cafe in Seattle, but there's this curly-haired guy at the counter who gives customers the worst 'tude. Don't take it personally. The rest of the people are kind, cool, and down-to-earth.

I really enjoy the atmosphere of Chaco and find that it's a nice stop for lunch or a easy place to order a juice and work on my laptop! The food is delicious and their housemade Kombucha is unbeatable! I particularly love the lentil veggie burger, which has a unique texture and a great taste served on a toasty bun! A bit out of my preferred price range, but it is organic galore, so that's expected going in, and is a nice treat as a departure from all the food I eat that's bad for me. ;)

I'm impressed. Everything I've had here tastes awesome. I can bring my non-vegan friends, and so far, they're pretty happy with everything they've had here, too. I recommend the avocado sandwich, the artichoke melt, and the burger. Om nom nom. It gets busy around lunch time, so be prepared to wait.

I have always enjoyed my experience at Chaco Canyon. The staff is pleasant and willing to answer question, make suggestions. They offer gluten free and are especially thoughtful to their earth friendly, recycling and composting processes.

Chaco Canyon Organic Cafe really made my day. I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars. Let's make it 4 for now. My brother and I went inside around midday on this cloudy September day and began looking at the menu. I assumed the menu was merely vegetarian, but more specifically, it's all vegan. I ordered a small Thai peanut rice bowl, while my brother chose the reuben, and we split a large blue-green smoothie (blueberries, banana, apple, and greens). Then we took our numbered placard and went to find a table. The smoothie was brought to our table just minutes after ordering, while the main dishes took a few minutes more. While we waited, I began to observe the atmosphere of the restaurant. Even though it's located at the street level of a newer-looking condo building, CCOC feels very warm and unpretentious. I felt like I belonged here, even though I'm not vegan and not a hippie. The smoothie was really good, by the way, but $5.75 is too expensive to make it a regular habit. My Thai peanut bowl thrilled me from the first bite. I was so impressed by the fresh spinach arranged around the outside of the bowl, filled with rice and red peppers and peanut sauce and spicy peanuts. I mixed everything together and dug in to what would be the best under-$10 dish in recent memory. The peppers and spinach were the perfect complement to the rice and peanut sauce---a little extra flavor and texture to break up the homogeneity. Overall, there was a bit more rice than I'd have preferred, so I was glad to have chosen the small size and not the large. The peanut sauce was slightly spicy, but I didn't mind. Overall, I was terrifically pleased with the streamlined process of ordering. Being able to take a number, sit down, and have the food brought to us was such a nice touch. I also appreciated the "help yourself" water cooler and the centrally located tubs for busing one's dishes. And of course, the food was great. I'll be back!

I started juicing about a month and a half ago and decided to see if there were any places in the Udist near work that I could grab a glass of fresh juice for lunch. I found Chaco Canyon via Yelp and saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try the very same day. I ordered the Pure Bliss juice which is pineapple, apple, spinach, wheatgrass and mint and I can honestly say it was the best fresh juice I've ever had. I was a bit floored at dropping 9 bucks on a juice but my gawd it was good! That was 2 weeks ago and I stopped in again today for a "treat." Today I got a smoothie, I can't remember the name, but it was spinach, banana and fresh apple juice... much better price ($6) and again, delicious! I will be popping back in to Chaco Canyon for a drink or smoothie but I don't think I'll be checking out their menu, I'm by no means vegan, and most of the items don't really ring my bell.

I tried to be raw one day.... and spent the entire day planning and making my meals, and was always hungry. Sorry, I'm a microwave girl. But I was excited by the options at the Chaco Canyon Cafe. I had a huge bowl of the shredded zucchini and kelp noodles (which I now want to try on my own) with carrots, pumpkin seeds and ginger sauce. I was actually too full for dessert so I didn't even get to try the delicious looking pies. The atmosphere was really chill, especially good for rolling in to read the newspaper or meet friends. I felt at home there and would definitely consider it my go-to raw place in Seattle when I want to be a little more green.

I'm not a rawfoodist or die-hard vegan/vegetarian, but l I think this place is worth a visit, especially if you're curious about raw food. I got the pesto pizza (one of the raw entrees) and the basic quinoa bowl. My date got the lentil burger with a mushroom miso soup. He also got a mocha smoothie. We finished with a cowboy cookie and a maple and star anise cookie. Some of it was great, and some was weird. In the great category: the lentil burger was really tasty and doesn't suffer from being too dry, like other veggie burgers. The soup was also tasty, in a strange way. Sort of Asian but not. In the super-weird category: the pesto pizza. It neither looked or tasted like pizza. It looked like tortilla chips painted with tomato paste, very mild pesto, and a dollop of something white that looked like mild yogurt. The raw "crust" tasted kind of funny. It wasn't bad, but there was a weird upchuck flavor in it. My four tortilla-chip-size pieces of pizza was accompanied by a green salad, for $11 or so. That's pretty pricey if you ask me. Also in the weird category: the star anise cookie. I know, I should have known. My date has a huge sweet tooth and rejected it after one nibble. I ate it, but kind of felt like I should have fed it to the dog. Other than the obvious strange flavor choice, the maple made it hard to chew. And the mocha smoothie tasted sort of like sweet sludge. I think I would have given this place one more star for being food-adventurous if the service hadn't been so disgruntled and unwelcoming.

Seattle is blessed. The kind of vegetarian/vegan options I have within 10-minutes of driving distance is probably unmatched by any other city. I have seen this place from outside a hundred times but never went inside. Today, through Yelp, I landed up here. I was pretty clear about what I wanted -- a good sandwich and a good soup to finish my good weekend. And that's precisely what I got. The avacardo sandwich and the butternut bisque were very good. And what more, it's a huge place and has exterior seating too. The people were nice and helpful. After my meal I wanted to purchase a dessert. Since they were closing, they gave it to me for free even after I told them that I would pay. This is the kind of place at which you would want to end a peaceful day. And it's the kind of place where I would not mind tipping more than 20%. Go for it.

Uppers -Wide variety of styles on the menu -Delicious smoothies -The sandwiches feel like they have a cleansing attribute Downers -Price can get steep for students -Many of the portions do not coincide with the price The Scoop I was a regular here for a long time. Though eventually the price started to squeeze my budget. A lot of great takeaways from my times in Chaco. First of all, the food is very high quality and to the extent that is possible, sustainably sourced as well. My favorite dishes have always been the pesto sandwich and avocado, tomato and sprout sandwich. As I said before, I often left Chaco feeling quite refreshed. The restaurant itself is always clean and well, kept, though maybe a tad loud because of the espresso and smoothy station. You'll notice the staff is so laid back it seems they could almost put you to sleep! Also, if you look around you'll find cool local art and a wall listing donors who chose to support the restaurant. Luckily, I have a plaque to look at every time I go in! All and all, this is a solid establishment to chill for a coffee or go all out with a raw dining experience. As a note: Their menu is almost entirely vegan, which is sweet for folks like I.

I'll start by saying that I serendipitously sat under an Obama poster at Chaco the day after I waited all morning to hear him speak. I hate political rallies, but that man is every bit as inspirational in person as he was two years ago. So - I could have been in an emotional, idealistic, there-is-still-hope-renewed haze during my first dinner here...but I loved it. Though I'm picky about its origins and lifestyle, I do eat an occasional steak (medium rare, please). This meal had me thinking that if I had a Chaco on my block, maybe that would be it for me. If you've never had raw kelp noodle "pasta," this is the place to try it...that was our favorite. I had dinner with three others, so we all shared around, and everything was delicious (1/2 kelp 1/2 zuke ginger pasta, harvest specials, and a hippie bowl). They aren't afraid to season, and the flavors blend well. Our only complaint was that the hippie bowl is a bit off kilter in it's veg/tofu to quinoa ration, and we had an excess of the latter. Go. Try it. Get your non-veg friends to try it. We will be back.

Chaco Canyon is near my office. I love their food - amazing soups, juices, sandwiches and I love the hippy bowl and the thai peanut bowl. One of the only places to get healthy food near the U district. Five stars for the food! However, their service is incredibly, mind-bendingly slow. I have waited 30 mins for a juice to go. When I go here for lunch, I expect it to take at least an hour and a half. As others have said, there are always plenty of people buzzing around the kitchen, but every time I come here I curse myself for having forgotten that it is maybe the slowest service in Seattle.

Thanks for making this traveling vegan happy... sigh. Would have been a much better experience if I had exited the cafe to find the parking nazis hadn't towed my rental car, but... yeah. Split pea soup with a grilled cheez? It was awesome comfort food especially in the windy weather, friendly service and an overall great vibe. The kombucha wasn't bad either :) Given the chance I would have eaten there more than just once, but alas, I had to go home.

I have been a healthy eater my whole life, my grandma would make me whole wheat tuna sandwiches and V8 in my elementary school lunch boxes. Yes I was teased relentlessly but I loved it, I think healthy food tastes better. So recently I have been casually trying out vegan restaurants recently as a way to get more vegetable protein into my diet. (Too much animal protein is linked to infertility... ) I was meeting a friend in West Seattle, (ugh... how do people handle the bridge daily?! it is awful) and drove past this cafe. I took a mental note anything with "organic" in the name I must try on my healthy crusade. I suggested we eat there and we did, he is a huge raw food/juicing fan so it was an easy YES. Vibe was exactly how I imagined it would be, random chairs and tables and those hipster moms feeding their children healthy food much like my childhood (before it was cool). On the counter as we ordered sat the most beautiful organic carrot I have ever seen... it was over a foot long!!!! The staff saw I was impressed and said, "it was too beautiful to juice!" I agreed wholeheartedly! I had a rice milk chai (delish) and the special taco salad. My friend got a raw juice and the artichoke melt. He loved his meal. I LOVE LOVE LOVED mine, the mixed greens topped with cashew taco meat, delicious guacamole and seasonings were to die for. The spices were delicious better than any taco salad I have ever had! The portion was large, I asked her what size a small was, she showed me and it came bigger than I had thought! Bravo to Chaco Canyon!!!! EVERYONE MUST TRY! I will be back many times and I am so glad there is a location closer to me ( in the U district).

Chaco Canyon is another U-District favorite of mine. They have a vegan/raw menu I'm totally comfortable ordering from, knowing that I won't have an allergic reaction from cross-contamination or undisclosed ingredients (I'm looking at you UW HFS!). I had the Hippie Bowl, which is was tofu sitting on top of quinoa with carrots and sprouts. There was a bit of sesame seeds and a sauce drizzled over everything. It was filling and just perfect - it wasn't too salty or sweet and just what I needed for fuel between exams. With that said, I'm eagerly awaiting the day when Chaco Canyon will maybe have some of it's to-go meals sold on campus at UW, where the selection of vegan/raw dishes are a sorry excuse. For now, I'm OK catching the bus and walking a bit to come here. Also. THEY HAVE FRESH BREWED KOMBUCHA!

If you have food allergies, this is the place for you. They have a ton of gluten and soy free options, delish raw and vegan foods! After eating here your body will give you a hug. The only thing I love more than the food is the atmosphere. It's laid back and friendly. I could easily hang out with a book and some delicious juice and hang out for a bit. I feel comfy looking like hell here too. I'm pregnant and sometimes I just don't want to put any effort into anything, ok? This place is granola enough to celebrate that with me. Thank you Chaco Canyon, Thank you!!

So, if you're reading this review, that probably means you're into organic vegan food...however, you probably have friends and family that aren't. If that is the case, bring them to Chaco Canyon! I'm all into organic vegan, good-for-you, good-for-the-earth food, but I recognize that some places can be a little off-putting for those not into raw vegan organic food (cough, cough, thrive, cough). Not the case with Chaco canyon. All the staff are cool, non-threatening, and non-judgy. Everything I've tried is delicious, from the coffee to the lemonade to the curry bowls to the appetizers. It's all good, and it all leaves you feeling like you just did your body good. The decor is awesome, and I really believe they're doing all the good stuff you'd expect an eco-conscious restaurant to do. My girlfriend and I are talking about moving JUST to be closer to Chaco Canyon. So check it out, you'll love it. And if you have wary friends, bring em here, have them try out the deliciousness before you tell them it's vegan and good for the earth too! And if you just happen to be a meat-lover too, you can still come here and have a good time. No one will judge you, I promise.

The food here was ok but awfully rich. I'm not really into gluten-free, raw, vegan diets but some friends are so it was a good place to hang out. I felt a little bad for the people working there because I was with quite the rowdy bunch! (Apologies if you were trying to study/work.) The water, silverware, etc. here is self-serve and the entire rim of my glass tasted salty so I just stopped drinking. I had an issue with silverware as well. My fork had something on it- I hope it was just dishwasher residue, but it still kinda ruined my appetite. (The bathrooms here are clean, though.) I ordered the enchilada plate and really liked the mango pico de gallo on top. The flax tortilla was filled with avocado and cashew "butter" and while it was pretty tasty, I got a rumbly in my tummy :( Maybe it was all those veggies or maybe it was the dairy substitutes; I don't know. All I know is I couldn't get the cashew taste out of my mouth the entire night, even after brushing my teeth twice and using mouthwash. I even woke up in the morning with the taste. Definitely too heavy for me- I'll stick to real butter. They do have some juices which sound good- I'd avoid the vegan food here next time and try a fresh-squeezed juice instead.

I met an online date here and wished I'd come with a friend instead, so that I could focus more on the wonderful food and atmosphere. It's such a nice place, with high ceilings and a natural feel (lots of wood). We both loved what we ordered (I had an artichoke melt sandwich, yummy) and it was nice to be able to have beer or wine too. Only regret: didn't have time to have dessert. They had some sort of fig parfait that looked simply dreamy. I wish they'd open one of these in Seattle somewhere!

Hello Chaco Canyon. I'm your newest friend. Normally I wouldn't hang out with a place like you. It's not that I think I'm too good for you, really. It's just that I'm pretty busy and I have trouble keeping up with the friends I already have. It's not you, it's me. I know, I've been a vegetarian for more than 20 years, and you're a vegetarian restaurant. On paper, we're the perfect match. I just need a lot of space right now. But when I'm on week 2 of a raw, vegan cleanse, I need a friend like you. Someone who will lift my spirits and remind me of all the good food there is to be had out there. Someone I can count on to be consistent and loyal. I will happily accept your bowl of shaved zucchini that you call noodles and I will love it. In fact, I'll fall for you so hard that I'll start wanting to see you every day. But soon our friendship will start to wear thin. I'll tire of your prices. The raw brownie that I have all the time will start to bore me. Or the occasional slightly surly counter person will hurt my feelings. And I'll turn to cooked food to console me. But our friendship won't be over. I'll come back to you in about 6 months, newly thankful for all that you have to offer, and you'll welcome me back with open arms. Cause that's how friends are.

I drive by this cafe every Sunday when I go to church just down the block. I decided to stop in one day with my mom and grandma, not realizing it was vegetarian. I was delighted to find out it was, however, because I am a vegetarian and am always looking for good places to eat! My mom and grandma are not, though, and I was worried they would not like it. They LOVED it! This place is super tasty and the atmosphere is relaxing, the building is adorable inside and the people are super friendly.

So happy we decided to try this place. We might have new favorite Seattle restaurant! Apparently we're not the only ones, though, since it was pretty crowded when we were there (around 1pm on Sunday afternoon), but I guess it wouldn't be fair to keep it all to ourselves. It was apparently the day of the melt; I got a pesto melt (with a side of black bean chili) and my husband got an artichoke melt (with a side of red lentil soup). Both sandwiches were delicious, on toasty breads with melty vegan cheese and various other delicious fillings and fixings. Based on our experience, if Chaco Canyon melted it it's good. Both soups got our seal of approval as well. We had a coupon we'd picked up at Mighty-O (which just earned more love from me, being now the home both of vegan donuts and pointers to delicious lunches!), so we got to try a free drink. We ended up getting a "belly rub" juice because it had fennel & ginger, and it turned out to be quite tasty, clear and sweet. It did have a lot of that annoying fresh juice foam on top, though. After all that, we couldn't resist trying dessert. I agonized for an embarrassingly long time in front of the case, which was filled with choices. We had a raw cranberry-orange bar and a spelt gingerbread cookie. The bar was sweet and creamy and the gingerbread (which was frosted) was one of the tastiest I've had, spelt or not. All this, and they'll recycle your used up batteries and CFLs, too? I'm sold.

It's good. Not amazingly tasty, but not oily and over-seasoned like some vegan places can be. Also, it's overpriced. The morning energizer juice is great. Some dishes are quite large proportions, others are barely a snack. I haven't tried anything from their pastry case, which is next on my list of things to try there.

  • Tiffany S.

I loved it! I had the pesto melt with the quinoa tabbouleh - why had I never thought of making it with quinoa? Chris had the Thai peanut bowl with a green Maui something juice. Yes, I thought my sandwich was expensive, but I did eat it over two meals (nice justification). I even snuck back for a brownie so we spent over $35. That's a little crazy for lunch but it was worth it. I can't wait to go back (I hear the artichoke sandwich calling my name).

my friend asked me,"Do you want healthy vegan or greasy vegan today?" I picked healthy and we came here. here's a place you can go and feel good about what you are putting into your body and your soul will feel good too. i recently had an avocado sandwich accompanied by a cup of chai tea. both were delicious. everything i have eaten there has been tasty. this one being in the u-district, it is busy and big. overall, i think this place is a winner. so now you know where to grab drinks or breakfast with a vegan friend and catch up!

wow, their smoothies and green juices are good, but i didnt really get a chance to eat any of their other things because i was on a SUPER STRICT yeast detox diet at the time. so i got the caesar salad.. with no dressing, no croutons, my boyfriend got something called "the munchies" ... the whole meal cost us almost 40 dollars!!!! this place is EXTREMELY overpriced, the portions arent very big... the only reason I'd come back is if i am too lazy to make myself a green smoothie.. :) thanks! i think i'm better off at care flora... :)

Love this place! As this is the restaurant that I have probably visited most in Seattle, it seems appropriate for my first yelp review! Great vibe, great food, great drinks (hot, cold, and even alcoholic), super friendly staff. It is the kind of place you could take a date, but also the kind of cafe you can sit in for a few hours drinking hot beverages (or the house-made Kombucha) and getting work done at! All vegan menu (they do offer cow milk for coffee) with many raw options.... Can't go wrong with too much, but my absolute favorite is the Lentil Burger... chewy and filling on a delicious Essential Bakery bun... comes with soup, salad or taboulli for like $12. It will fill you up... Rotating selection of AMAZING desserts (usually about 1/2 are raw and 1/2 are baked) .... highly recommended are the Raw Chocolate fudge squares, and any cake that has their Buttercream frosting on it!

12 dollars for a sandwich. A delicious organic sandwich that makes you feel good for eating it, but 12 dollars!?! Their food is quite good but so pricey. You pay, I guess for organic, sustainable yadda yadda. They have a happy hour with gluten free beer and sake mixed drinks. A great place to take a difficult eater!

Went to Chaco Canyon today because it was close by, not necessarily because it was organic. Overall, really good! I was just looking to do some work so ordered a muffin and a cup of coffee. The staff were super friendly and seemed like they enjoyed working there. The blueberry muffin was great and the coffee was good. Good atmosphere, not sure if it's the best place to study (a little noisy), but I'd definitely go again to do some lighter work on the computer. Wifi seemed to work well too.

Yes please. This place is awesome!!! Everything comes from the earth, nothing is processed, or frozen. FINALLY somewhere that understands what real food is. Everything is good, you can't go wrong. As far as the chai goes, the best in my neighborhood. I live right around the corner from this place and I'm glad I do. This is the best cafe in my neighborhood, I can't believe that people don't know about this place.

I'm giving Chaco Canyon the ultimate five stars not because it is a five star restaurant, but because I love what they do and I love that they do it well. Organic, vegan, and sustainable, Chaco Canyon sends to go orders with its metal cutlery rather than giving customers something that would end up in a land fill. As far as the food goes, I've been here multiple times, and each time I've had soup, a gluten free muffin, and the hot apple and ginger juice--every time has been delicious. I want to try some of the other options, and I will start with the enchiladas, as they look and smell so good! I love the vibe here--I don't find it too hipster or too hippie, and so I don't know what it says about me, but I'm definitely in my comfort zone sipping my hot ginger cider here. Well, I am a child of the seventies and my mom gave birth to me at home with the help of a midwife, so maybe I am feeding my inner tree hugger when I'm here. Anyways, I love this place and I will be back!

I love having a dining experience where I don't have to triple-check with the server that my food isn't going to make me sick. The folks at Chaco Canyon are great about food allergies and restrictions, serving up beautiful, delicious, healthy food. A great place for gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, raw, or just picky folks to get a great meal or a quick snack.

Wow. I wouldn't think I was going to come around to like this place, despite its obvious attention to details that are important to me. There was just something about it and I tried to resist. The prices are a little steeper than I'd like. The menu is vegetarian and, though I was a vegetarian for years, I enjoy a little meat on my plate. The drinks seemed just too... trendy?! Anyways... I totally came around with this place and changed my opinion after finding out a little more about them and trying their offerings... I started off one night with their Flu Buster drink, after a stop into Pam's Kitchen. I wasn't so sure about it, but its resemblance to a warm lemonade from the Master Cleanse brought back some good memories. I wasn't quite yet sold. It may have even helped me heal from my terrible cold and flu symptoms I was suffering, but I'd never admit it at the time. I came back and was still wincing at the prices of the menu and unsure of the options. I went for the Lentil Burger and they'd got that hook firmly attached in me. It was freakin' delicious! I couldn't get enough, which is saying a lot because it is HUGE! The taboulleh is also amazingly good! I did a 180 at that point. On another note, I LOVE a dual-flush toilet and see them so rarely around here, but that and their generally environmentally friendlier restrooms were a big positive in my personal book!

I've only tried one type of meal at Chaco Canyon Organic Cafe and so far I really really like it, that is the Hippie Bowl. It's a combination of Quinoa, carrots, tofu and sprouts with housemade garlic tahini sauce and topped with black & white sesame seeds. I definitely recommend this place for raw veggie food. They are pretty creative with their selection.

I had the peanut grain bowl and was really impressed. You really get what you pay for. I also really enjoyed the house juice- really tasty, good flavor. I really can't think of a better cafe dining expirence

I LOVE what this place is about! They serve healthy, organic food in an open, vibrant atmosphere. They recycle and compost almost all their waste. They have fresh juices and smoothies! I moved to Seattle about 2 months ago and I've been looking for something like this. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but for my first time, I went with the Apple Apricot Buckwheat Raw-nola and an Americano. I have found that not everyone can make an Americano though it seems like a basic coffee item... they nailed it. Now the food... I've never had raw sprouted buckwheat. It has a great nutty flavor, they put in a perfect amount of dried fruit, and the flavors blended beautifully. The housemade vanilla hemp milk was delicious! So this is the only food I can speak for, but the guy at the table next to me has a salad made of greens that look vibrant and fresh. In fact, looking around, I wish I could ask everyone for just a bite of their food. I can't wait to try more here! I've seen the reviews where people say it's expensive... I guess I see it as voting with my dollar. I wish all food places would support healthy food for a healthy planet. I think these prices are pretty comparable to other Seattle restaurants with large-ish menus (I'm from Texas, so Seattle is just generally expensive) and I would rather support the ones that support our future through good practice.

Great quality, tasty food. You pay for what you get, but you'll be glad you treated yourself.. Quite a few raw choices for both food and beverage, which I always appreciate. I got the artichoke melt and red lentil soup and was pleased. I would probably try another sandwich or entree next time, the melt just didn't have enough flavor for my taste. Attractive decor, with a cozy feel. Come hang out & enjoy some tasty food and support sustainable cuisine!

After a nice workout in the beautiful weather and a relaxing stroll watching the sunset and people on Alki and the "should we try here?" place for dinner literally closed AS we were looking for parking, ended up here at Chaco Canyon for my first time. I opted for soup and sandwich, choosing the Avocado, tomato, sprout sandwich and the tomato, zucchini, fennel soup. The cohort went with his previous success with the Thai peanut bowl and a bowl of the cheesy potato soup. The 'inner fire' was a mandated try...and maybe it was off that day? It was just an overly strong lemon juicey type base w/ very little 'heat' or spice to my palate. Not...bad..but why was I drinking it again? Both soups were fabulous, and served at a near perfect temperature. I loved my sandwich, although a personal preference would have been for about 1/2 the sprouts. I'm ambivalent to sprouts and do enjoy them, but just think most places go nuts with the things. The tastes of the Thai peanut bowl I had were also very, very good. That is a definite winner on the menu. Perusing through magazines, sharing learned tidbits about melting ice shelves, sharks, vampire bats and the like, in this relaxed atmosphere with good food was a great way to recharge after an afternoon of activities at home and exercise in the beauty of Alki. Two thumbs up, Chaco.

you know that feeling you get after consuming a super-size portion of greasy or processed "food" ??? oh yeah, guilt. ...and indigestion. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I care about what I put in my body. turns out, chaco canyon can please carnivorous palates as well (take it from a fellow meat-eater!). organic and fresh feels good to everyone. another review described the food as "responsible" which is a great way to put it. the hippie bowl with quinoa is good/filling, the coffee is exceptional, and in my experience the service has always been pleasant. so bid adieu to big macs, and food-babies be gone! you won't feel like you need to be rolled out of the door steam-roller style after a meal at chaco canyon.

Yum! I'm vegan & love places where I can eat everything on the menu!!! The only problem is being overwhelmed by many amazing sounding options! And it is so cool that it is a green business, I feel great about supporting that. I had a delicious reuben with coconut potato masala soup & a glass of homebrew kombucha. Delightful! A reuben is something I never create at home so this was a treat & I adore sauerkraut. The kombucha was tangy & crisp. My veggie friend had the artichoke melt (thumbs up) & watermelon juice. The watermelon juice was a sweet, divine treat! Can't wait to try more of the creative options, thanks! :)

This place is pricey, but it has alot of wheat free & dairy free options that don't taste like sawdust or cardboard. I really like the soups and during the winter their hot juices are amazing. This place is always quite a treat for me to go to, as I don't go often because it is far from my house and a bit on the pricey side. I can never get too attached to anyone item though as they are always changing up the menu. You never know what to expect when you go there. :) I LOVE their tapioca pudding. Being allergic to dairy as an adult and growing up loving tapioca this is a HUGE winner for me.

Vegan without the cult-y undertones...and OMG so good. The smoothies were fantastic, the people are friendly, and the message is great. We've tried vegan places, and we always feel judged. This place has great food without making us feel like we should hide ourselves under our napkins. They have a line on their chalkboard about unpretentious, attractive baristas, and that's for sure true :)

The Thai peanut bowl I ordered at Chaco Canyon was tasty and filling. After starving all day to get blood draw, the bowl of brown rice, spinach, peanuts, and peanut sauce was filling. It was just right protein and carb wise. I was very tempted by the sandwiches as well. An artichoke melt almost grabbed my attention. The space at Chaco is inviting. There are many places to set up shop to read over lunch or to study with coffee. Fyi's~ *There are items to purchase such as pumpkin seeds, salad dressings, and cookies *You get your own silverware and water if you need it *There are a few desserts for purchase- but don't expect to be overwhelmed with choices

I love this place. I have been a regular for almost 5 years now. It is the first place I went to when I moved back to Seattle. I don't give it 5 stars because there are some misses occasionally BUT when you're constantly adding seasonal items to the menu, that don't have eggs, butter, dairy, meat, and often no wheat, nuts, or soy YOU CAN'T CRITICIZE THEIR GENIUS TOO MUCH. :) My favorites are all of the sandwiches, soups, and salads. You can't go wrong with any of those. The raw enchiladas are good too. The rice bowls are good, but nothing to write home about. . The chai tea is DELICOUS. The tapioca pudding is the main reason I am addicted to this place though...the chocolate flavor rules. The cupcakes are good, but they can be overly sweet and have a slight "gluten free" grainy taste at times. The smoothies are amazing as well. They have some very unusual flavor combos that are seasonal. For instance, I had a basil fruit smoothie that I dreamed about all week a year or two ago. :) I think everyone should try Chaco because it is so unique and unlike anywhere you will ever go. You will either love it or hate it.

I'm not a vegetarian, so I'm comparing their food to all restaurants. And I'm here to report that it's good stuff. If you're looking for a burger or sushi, go somewhere else. The food is healthy, politically correct (from what I hear), fresh, tasty, a little expensive, no-guilt and well-portioned. I thought the menu would be all wheat grass and cucumber shavings, but the menu actually looks diverse and yummy. Sandwiches, soups, salads, fresh juice, smoothies, coffee, desserts, etc. Good service too. But the food can take a while to make.

Chaco Canyon has really great food. I have never been disappointed. They have a wide variety of really wonderful vegan (and some raw) dishes. The smoothies are pretty good too! And they have a nice selection of vegan and raw sweets. When eating there, I usually get the pesto melt that comes with either soup or salad. The sandwich is perfect. It's perfectly melty and very tasty. The Egyptian Red Lentil soup is so so good. I would definitely eat here more often if it was cheaper. Although very delicious, the soup and sandwich is $12. It's a nice treat though!

OOOOHH Thank you Yelpers!! I found this place because of something in a yelp conversation. I have had to wait until today to get there! I am so happy. I had a reuben sandwich - just perfect; a wheat grass - good size; and the salad which came with the sandwich had a good assortment of nuts and veggies. As I left I asked about the sandwich contents.. it was field roast.. then I got to have a taste of their cold brownies! DIVINE!!!! There are many different organic juices to choose from. It is on a corner and has nice windows. Its across from a walgrens and just a few blocks from Trader Joe's and many other great places to be any day. i would suggest taking the bus, as parking here is a situation all its own.

My brothers tried this cafe and hey, it's crowded on Saturday morning. Nope, we are not vegetarians or anything. Well, we sometimes buy organic stuff by bulk but that's another story. We were just looking for a cafe where we can order a good hot coffee. And we saw this place... I ordered Avocado, Tomato and Sprout sandwich. It came with soup. My brother ordered french toast. My other brother ordered Hippie Bowl. Did I like it? It's just ok. Nothing fancy. Well, the cafe itself is fancy though. If you use the restroom, they use a water saver water closet, recycled toilet paper, organic hand soap etc... I think it's very interesting (or hippie?) Again, as I said, the taste and texture of the food is just ok. Well, at least I've eaten something organic on that day :-)

Since only vegan food I can have is RAW vegan due to not being able to consume soy, gluten, legumes, sugars, starches etc, I'm always on the lookout for RAW vegan cuisine when I have to go there (usually in the company of vegan friends). I had the raw "pizza" and though it was pretty good, it was a little small for the price. The accompanying salad was pretty tiny as well. I guess I'm used to consuming HUGE green salads and the portions at the Chaco Canyon had me starving in less than an hour. Ordering the tiny pizza plus an extra salad cost me about $18 (before coffee) which is more than what I usually spend on just myself when I go out. I was excited to see they had kombucha but it was syrupy sweet - I couldn't finish it. It was like drinking pure sugar.

Thumbs up for a vegan, raw foods, gluten free, soy free, and certified organic cafe! We ordered the Pesto Pizza, it was different. I'm all for clean eating, and this was something new I wanted to try. The pizza was good, but a little bland. The staff was nice and accomodating. We also tried the raw foods brownie, and that was rich and delicious! We ordered smoothies as well. I got the mocha madness, and my dad got the blue greener blast. The mocha madness smoothie was good, but a little too much banana; so much so that it was overpowering. I tried the blue greener blast also, and that was really good! Fresh and fruity, better than the mocha madness! The environment is interesting. There was a lot of children/families there, which I don't mind but the place was unusually noisy to me. Other than that, it was great. Pricey, but worth a try.

Every time I come here I fall in love all over again! From soups and salads, to their yummy sandwiches (the only context in which I will eat vegan cheese) or their raw bowls, everything is delicious! There are two kinds of vegans/vegetarians: the kind who actually eat mostly veggies, and the kind that use their morality to eat any greasy, saucy, hangover-curing gut-bomb they can as long as there ain't no animal in it. sadly most the people I know fit into the latter category. --a lot of restaurants in Seattle cater to this (Wayward, Highline, you know who you are) and most those who don't are bland and uninspired (Sunlight Cafe). Thankfully Chaco falls prey to neither of these scenarios. Its fresh, healthy, inventive food and it's won my heart! last thing- I haven't tried desserts here, but they look bomb! sooo, I guess this is to be continued...

This place + Thrive make Seattle the best vegan city ever. Super delicious, I love their rotating specials (they have special soups, smoothies, entrees, raw dishes, and desserts that change on a daily/weekly basis). Plus they have free wifi and the coolest bathrooms ever. They also introduced me to the romaine lettuce green smoothie! (Sounds disgusting, even to someone who already drank spinach and kale smoothies, but really delicious, and a lot lighter tasting than other green smoothies.) Extra +1 for the mini ice cream in a old McDonalds-like/non-cone-shaped cone I had once! (I never thought I'd have that again when I went vegan, so mad props for the nostalgia that brought.)

I think I have a problem. It has something to do with the artichoke sandwiches they make here. I can't stop thinking about them. Even when my super steak-loving friends are in town I somehow manage to wheedle and whine my way into getting them to come here. My usual fare is sandwich and side salad though I've been meaning to try some raw smoothies. Once I had the raw squash patties and they were only ok. The soup of the day is usually very tasty (I had potato kale and it was superb!) and the side salad tastes as a side salad should--simple, fresh, not smothered in sauce. So I'm still a little weirded out by the cheese they serve here in my sandwich, but it complements those artichokes so who am I to complain? My friend who had the Reuben did say it tasted a bit odd (the cheese + meat) but overall it was still good. Yeah, I know, it's hard to recreate the taste of delicious murder. It is a bit pricey ($10 for a sandwich and salad) but for the quality it's well worth it. Solid place for healthy eaters. Also 3 blocks away so I'll come here often! P.S. They get 1094849 bonus point since Max from the L Word apparently came to visit. How cool is that?

They gave me a spoon, a real silver (okay probably just metal) spoon to take with me. A lot of people talk about being green, conserving and what not, but when Chaco Canyon gave me a spoon so I could walk down the street running errands shamelessly eating my raspberry tapioca pudding, I knew they were serious about their cause. (Don't worry, I returned the spoon next time.) I heart Chaco canyon, everything I have had is delicious. Pick and choose if you are worried about price, but I can definitely fill up for under five- usually in this circumstance I will choose their peanut sauce bowl- with brown rice, spinach and zucchini. I also love the red lentil soup and occasionally they have gluten free black bean pockets that are so good. They actually have a great selection of gluten free and will even give you a side of quinoa with your soup if you don't want the bread. Drink are amazing as well. I love the belly rub, apple juice with ginger, fennel and peppermint as well as the Elvis- a smoothie with peanut butter and banana. And to top it all off, I adore Chaco canyon most because they have almond milk. Anywhere I can get an Almond milk latte wins my heart and my five stars.

I liked the atmosphere and the crazy variety for a mid-priced raw food restaurant. I know that the food I had can be made with more flavor so that was my only reason for three stars, but if I were gonna have a business it would be as eco-friendly and cozy as Chaco Canyon. If I'm in the area I will definitely stop by again. Kudos.

I really must say this is my favorite place to eat. Sure, there are some menu items that I'm not partial to - some of the raw desserts, for example - but for a raw foodist, maybe that's the best of the best? I don't know, since I'm not a raw foodist, I'm a baker. A wee bit partial to baked goods. But the soups? Wow. The sandwiches? Yarr. The bowls? Yum. The salads. Amazing. The smoothies? Ogod. The raw entrees? Yay. The special dinners they put on? Far out. My favorites: Really really green smoothie, black bean chili, their new reuben, the avocado-tomato-sprout sandwich, brownie bites, apple-garlic vinaigrette, muffins of all kinds, and the vegetable potpies (best breakfast on a cold morning). It's a little pricey, but organic food in general is a little pricey. The food is consistent, which I like, the store is always clean and I've always had friendly service. Plus, you can get a filling meal - a basic bowl of rice or quinoa and black beans with a sauce - for like, $3.50. Not a bad deal. Always have a big selection of fresh food (organic, mostly local, vegan, and so fresh) and specials like red lentil soup or chocolate cake or raw chocolate bars. Five stars for keeping it fresh, keeping it pleasant, keeping it consistent, offering seasonal dishes, and serving me what I'm sometimes too lazy to make myself but really want to eat anyway.

If you're a hippie, if you care about what your fuel your body with, and you're willing to pay a slightly higher price for it all then this is the place for you. They've got quinoa, lemon grass juice, vegan pastries, multiple soups of the day, and the most amazing assortment of smoothies (if you like peanut butter then you haven't lived until you've tried the "Elvis"). These are just some examples of healthy foods you'll find here. Its very informal, and has a great community feel to it -- a wide assortment of folks visit this place. You order, grab a number and take a seat. Crack open the laptop or read a book and wait for your fare. It usually takes a good 10 minutes as they are almost always quiet busy. The internets never fail me, and there are plenty of outlets. Its a good place to work, if you don't mind the kitchen smells and some kitchen noise (kitchen isn't well isolated from the dining space). Overall, if you like healthy tasty food then you should definitely drop by. There are many vegan options, and the cooks can always swap or leave out ingredients to suit your dietary needs.

This is a very good Vegan restaurant. I wish they had an East Coast branch! It is in the University District so there is a student vibe about it, however the day we were there the customers were a mix from young to old. I had the Lentil burger and my wife had the Avocado sandwich. Her side was the Jerk Chilli and mine was the Braising Greens and Walnut salad. She had the Morning Energizer juice and I had the Antidote. We loved everything. The staff was very nice and, given the line almost out the door, managed to process orders and food in a timely enough manner. Highly recommend this place. We will return the next trip to Seattle.

You get such fresh good food here! A nice glimpse of future food service, sustainable, fresh, organic, and tasty. It is a bit on the hippy -wheatie side but what for a vegetarian / vegan university place what more could you ask for? Good service and seating for about 40 people can get crowded because it is popular. Espresso drinks with hemp milk are great- also soy or almond milk. ( no coconut milk?) Salads and sandwiches awesome. breakfast cookies, smoothies, if you can eat this often you will sprout yourself into a better person. remember healthy food does cost more so if eating well, you will pay about $15-20 per person. also they have these elixirs great for a date.

I love Chaco Canyon. I love going here for fresh, mostly raw food that don't make me feel like butt. The weekend brunch is awesome. The service is a bit slow and wonky but I find the overall experience charming and healthy.

Chaco Canyon food is the reason why so many people are skeptical about vegan fare. So boring! So little flavor! And seriously, having your patrons order from a counter at a restaurant with a full menu is pretty negligent. To be fair, I'm a Portlander so I'm spoiled from all of the reasonably priced excellent vegan restaurants we have down here. Still, I know that there is great veggie food to be had in Seattle, as evidenced by the Plum Bistro, so there really are no excuses for the terribly bland food experience I had yesterday at Chaco Canyon. I dined with two others, and we were all unimpressed. I supposed if you're new to veganism, or from somewhere in the world with limited or no access to organic and cruelty free dining options, this place would be nifty. They get two stars: one for effort and one for bathroom cleanliness, but other than that, thumbs down. I'll go back to Plum Bistro next time I'm in Seattle.

Seattle needs more places like this. Nothing like a raw food bar that brings super flavor to the table. Their specials are usually delicious and the nachos are the bomb. Add in a fig brownie and I leave filled up and feeling good about what I had to eat.

Granted I'm not a strict vegan eater, but wanted to give the place a try. The person behind the counter was slow and orders piled up behind us. Tables were messy. Pizza was just weird. It was a spinach salad with bread covered in pesto on the side. Both my wife and I felt nauseous after the meal. I can't believe everyone loves this place.

  • Karen N.

I love the pesto melt with gluten free bread. The soups are good too and you have to get the raspberry tart thing--yum! Update: the pesto melt is gone....this is a travesty!! I had the thai peanut bowl and LOVED it--the small size seemed to be just the right amount of food for me. My friend and I enjoyed the chocolate tapioca pudding--not cloyingly sweet which was great. Downside is parking can be difficult to find, and don't count on service being lightning speed fast. Good food is worth waiting for, in my opinion.

I love Chaco Canyon! I wasn't sure if I should give it a 4 and a 5 based on what I've had..but everything has been solid. It's a great place for meatless burgers, smoothies, and gluten free vegan goodies. It's such a great place for someone who has dietary restrictions.

it makes me really, really happy that this place has done so well. i don't love everything on the menu, but it's well-rounded enough that there's something for anyone. i could eat their pesto melt or artichoke melt or avocado/tomato/sprout sandwiches every frickin' day of the week, and their house salad is one of the few salads that i actually eat with genuine enjoyment rather than a halfhearted sense of obligation.

  • B. R.

It's a big place, with a more cafe-like atmosphere than I expected. Folks were sitting around, lingering. Some working on laptops, some reading. (There was even a random girl sitting on a chair she had pulled way out into the middle of the sidewalk--ah, a little patch of sun?--but that's another story.) I had the spinach salad, which was tasty, but wasn't meal-sized and wasn't anything I couldn't make at home. Points given because sometimes I like to eat things that I could make, but don't have to. I also had the quinoa tabouli, which was nice. Friend ate some brown rice with broccoli and peanut sauce, which was way too good. For dessert (what) we ate the black bean brownie, which was delicious but falling apart mooshy, and the fine but a little too sweet raw fudge. I'd give it four stars but for the fact that the green juice, which was normal priced, was served in the eco-friendly version of a pixie cup. A $6 gulp.

I went to three juice bars today and this was the last stop on my list. Keep in mind that I was only interested in Juice when I came here and my review is based solely upon that one experience. There's a great sense of community here; there's a bulletin board and a rack of business cards for local independent business. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The selection of juices (my reason for being here) was pretty good. They use a centrifugal juicer rather than a masticating juicer, so the juice should be consumed immediately before the nutrients oxidize. To be honest, the type of juicer they use is a large part of the reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. They have two juice sizes, 10 and 16 ounces. The 16 ounce juice is pretty pricey across the board (varying by type of juice), but considering the location and size of their space it's understandable. Their website has a downloadable PDF of their current menu. Also, they have plenty of seating. I was there at about 7PM on a Sunday and they had numerous tables of varying sizes available.
