A run of the mill coffee shop in downtown - clean and with booths.

Coffee was good. Staff was really friendly and they played great music.

Hidden behind the scaffolding, this Caffe Ladro was open west coast early / east coast late when I needed a quick travel breakfast. Can't say much for the atmosphere; I wasn't yet awake. The Queen Anne blend was quite nice and pretty well balanced for a cup that won't displease. Muffins were a tad dry, but I suspect they don't have much early-ish Sunday morning business. Pretty solid place with a good counter-lady that early on an off day.

Caffe Ladro on Union is my version of "Cheers". Everyday I walk in and David or Danielle or Stacy or Carmen or Amanda or Eric (you get the picture)...they all know what I want. I mosey up to the bar, semi-conscious and sometimes surly and they take my mixture of talkative and silent moods in stride. This is a place to go if you like EXCELLENT coffee. If you want a rush in / rush out place...sometimes this isn't the place for you. Ladro is a victim of its own success. Some mornings, there's a line trailing towards the door. Other days, just one or two.

Excellent coffee. I give the slight edge to Victrola - but this is also very very good.

2 words: SAVORY SCONES. There are no other coffeehouses that have savory scones. I swear to Buddha this is the only coffee place that has them. And I looooves me a savory anything, so when we stopped in here on the way to work to get coffee, I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw that they had savory scones. That being said, my soy latte was pretty good too. The baristas are snarky (in a GOOD way), it's a convenient walk from where I live to work, and again....the savory scones. Ladro is a happy place.

Cool place to grab a chai tea latte, spicy even. Playing The Beatles over the speakers. Chill.

we told ourselves since we are coffee lovers that no matter how cold, wet or dying for a cup we are, we will not step into a starbucks. suprising to see that with all the great coffee shops downtown seattle has to offer your starbucks remain more packed than any other coffee shops. weird.. we went here for one thing, the Medici. all i can say is wow and where can i find this in SD or LA. we've had orange mochas before but not like this, noaaat like this. this was something out of a dream, i cannot say in words what i tasted on that first sip. it was pure coffee magic.

  • Muhammad H.

I went in for a quick latte but ended up spending over an hour there. The coffee was delicious and the barista had a great taste in music. I grabbed a Medici for the walk back to the hotel. I don't know how I lived the past 37 years without it. Hard to believe that it's a chain.

The best cappuccino in the U S of A. It's because of Caffe Ladro that I do not ever order one anywhere else, except in Italia. I'm whipped. (coffee humor!)

  • Jen C.

Small coffee shop serving up all kinds of java. Decor and atmosphere are minimalist, so I don't know if I would set up camp here to read the paper or work on my computer, but the coffee is great nonetheless.

    (4)
  • Dan C.

Excellent coffee but I was expecting a Picasso for latte art. Perhaps my barista was uninspired that day. Nevertheless, the coffee was super good and I had to buy a couple of bags of beans to brew at home.

  • Tom Y.

I rarely drink coffee or espresso products because it is so hard to find really good ones but when I came into town my friends pointed me in this direction and I was not disappointed. The Cafe Medici is the "DA BOMB" get it if you never had it from this place before.

    (4)
  • Jingwen Y.

Coffee is good, atmosphere is so-so, music is not my cup of tea. Nice little gallery upstairs in case you want to take a break from what ever you're doing at the cafe. Bottom line: if you want good coffee, this is a pretty place to be. If you want to study or "hang out" for a bit, you can find a better place.

  • Tabitha W.

Perhaps in my haste I didn't take the time to stop and really taste the coffee, but I've been hunting for this place since hearing about how wonderful it is from fellow Yelpers. It's a little hard to find - I didn't expect it to be jammed into an office building lobby space. Upon entering and perusing a little, I asked the barista what was in the Medici and was told chocolate and some orange. Well, I thought, this could be either a fall from grace or it could be the best thing I've shoved in my face all week. So I tried it. Either my taste buds were having an off day or something, but it was...not really that great? The chocolate taste was a little weak, and I couldn't really taste the orange in it either. It was more like a suggestion of chocolate and orange mix with some rather nice coffee. Now, I think if I had gone with a latte and some flavoring, it would have been awesome. Unfortunately the Medici was just not to my liking. It was fun to watch her peel the orange though. Maybe I should stop by another time and try something else?

  • Jennifer D.

I love consistency, who wants to be disappointed? This location is no different than the others in offering knowledged baristas who take pride in the coffee they make. Love me my Medici's! Even got my husband hooked ;)

My bf and I stumbled on to Caffe Ladro on our way to Pike Place Market while visiting Seattle and it was the perfect break from the crowded noisy shops. First, the iced blended mocha was delicious and made from real espresso (not from a mix and thrown carelessly into a blender). Second, the barista was helpful and kind. She noticed we ordered one drink to share and poured us a larger cup than what we bought. She also gave us poor tourists directions to the famed bubble-gum wall. Next time we're in Seattle, we'll definitely be back.

It took a lot of coffee drinking to finally settle on exactly what I like to drink. (single or double espresso with a little bit of whole milk and some sugar.) No place does it better than Caffe Ladro. I don't go here often, but when I do, it's always on point. Lots of crema and a great dark roast that's not too acidic. Don't go here for the cafe ambiance, just for the quality of their drink. It was good enough to drive me to get an espresso machine at home to stop drinking the stuff at the big chains (starbucks, tully's, etc).

    (5)
  • Yang W.

I just want to quickly added that, if you are a regular, go get their card: you will have 2 free drinks for every 10 drinks you buy. You end up paying less than Starbucks.

  • Sarah C.

Oh the days I worked at WaMu....one of my fondest memories is going to Ladro. We had a starbucks in the building, but I'd like to "treat" myself to Ladro's on Fridays~ Now here I'd always get something w/ soy - because they offered it. Tad more expensive for a cup of joe, but worth it. Coffee here is rich & flavorful. The baristas are nice & know their regulars.

  • Sara A.

I really like Caffe Ladro, and when I am downtown, this is my go-to for coffee that is not Starbucks (or Tully's or Seattles Best...), which I think is difficult to find downtown. The space is small, and a little lacking in ambiance. There are usually not many people (or any people) hanging out here when I go in. They seem to have better hours than a lot of places downtown, but still limited. The barista was nice, but a little standoffish. Its nice when someone lets me know they are ready to take my order. Anyway, while not the best of te Ladro locations, certainly one of the best places for coffee downtown. Also, try the apple pie. Go Ladro!

    (4)
  • Melissa R.

My favorite place for coffee downtown. I love that they use organic, fair trade coffee. All of the people that work at this location are very nice, and remember you by name if you come in frequently. I would highly recommend Cafe Ladro to any coffee-lover.

This review is only for the espresso. It is short as it should be, but the taste!!!! It is terrible.....

From what I gathered before my trip, there were a few top choices among yelpers for great espresso drinks in Seattle. Three names that consistently came up: Monorail Espresso Espresso Vivace Caffe Ladro I'm giving Caffe Ladro (downtown Seattle on Union) five stars because it takes the crown for the best espresso drink I had the pleasure of experiencing while in the Seattle area. I'd put Vivace and Monorail in a very close 2nd and 3rd (respectively). Highlights of Ladro: -Their espresso is smooth yet strong. Of the two days I had Ladro, they used two different roasts. One was definitely bolder than the other (I prefer bolder roasts), but both tasted great and were extremely smooth. -Milk was not oversteamed. Didn't scald my tongue 5 minutes after receiving the drink. -Nice foam and cool little foam art. -Friendly baristas.

Small cramped space, but our cool barista was very nice. They had interesting little things to look at in there. Very mellow, cool music on too. She made a great cappuccino!

I loved this place! came here on my way to see Pike Place for the first time. Grabbed me a copy of the Stranger outside, grabbed me a bagel sandwich and a coffee, and took in the view. both the coffee and the sandwich were amazing. Will be coming back!

  • Dave H.

Glorious. The Medici (soy for me) is the greatest drink ever. I don't visit or drive thru Seattle without finding an excuse to go here. The baristas are always friendly and the atmosphere is cozy.

I went to Caffe Ladro once. Never again. I can't think of a single good thing about my visit. When I first walked in, I looked around for a menu board or some guide to drink sizes and the number of espresso shots contained in each. Seeing no such thing, I kindly asked the barista if he could give me a quick run-down, which he reluctantly did. It wasn't until he was finished that I saw a menu board in the corner, and the text was printed on mirrored glass. Be any harder to read? ...When my iced triple 12-ounce latte was ready, I thanked the barista and sat down to drink some of it before I left. The cup was over-filled, so some of the drink sloshed over the side and onto my hand when I put the lid on, and some more came up through the hole when I put the straw in. Not acceptable. I grabbed a couple napkins, wiped off my hand, and took a drink. Weak. I could taste the espresso, but the drink didn't have the punch I wanted or expected, so I stirred it thoroughly and took another drink. Still weak. I went back to the barista to make sure it had three shots of espresso, and he said it did. At this point, there wasn't much I could do, so I walked out, drank about half of my iced latte, and threw the rest away. Oh yeah, and the music inside was much too loud. It wasn't until I found the nearest Starbucks that my craving for a good iced triple tall latte was satisfied.

Tasty coffee and great service. I love this location since it's in the middle of downtown but hidden away enough to relax in. The shop itself is small but a great place to relax for a bit and great for free wifi. The baristas are awesome. Always laid back, nice and act like real people. They have great recommendations too. They serve shade grown organic coffee too, which is pretty sweet for the environment and makes a damn good cup of coffee.

  • Shekinah S.

This review basically covers all Ladros since I've been to most of them. My FAVORITE thing is the iced blended lattes. SOOOO GOOOOD!! Except twice when they added cinnamon or something I didn't ask for. Yucky. But I did have a pretty bad regular iced latte once at the Fremont location. Oh well, I'll just go elsewhere for an iced latte (I didn't throw it away, unlike the worst latte I ever had which was at Tully's) . The service varies wildly by location and well, barista. Usually they are friendly and great, but I've gotten some sour pusses in lower Queen Anne. I keep meaning to try the pastries, etc, but the ice-blended drink is always enough to make me too full and guilty to eat anything else. I appreciate that they support organic farming, and even have some program where you can use their leftover beans for compost, or something like that. Go Ladro!

  • Brian G.

This is one coffee shop that I simply don't care for. The feeling I get from the surroundings as well as the staff is nothing but cold, sterile, "I have better things to do" type of vibes. I could overlook those observations if the coffee was outstanding but it's not. The coffee isn't bad but I don't exactly care for it either. I recently bought a pound of their "Queen Anne" beans to brew at home and I eventually had to give the rest away after the second pot because it was so bland. Luckily this is Seattle and there are many other choices to be found.

  • Ross C.

I've been to one other Ladro but this is still one of my favorite coffee joints. I usually get a tall Americano since I hate milky coffee. Anyhoo, I love the free wifi and the big table in the middle of the room. The folks who pull the shots are often quite friendly, sometimes not but no worries. I occasionally meet Wamu clients there so it's convenient. The huge windows make it a good people watching site and I like how you see hipsters, hard-hats and wamu drones all coming in. Another cool thing about this spot is the music. They play some great tunes. Not sure who is programing it, but i doff my hat to ye. Personal pratfall: I was talking to a client recently and I actually dumped a near full Americano on my lap. Still made the dealio, but had to slosh over to Macy's to buy some dry pants. Fortunately they were having a sale.

Friendly atmosphere, great coffee -- what a great way to start the morning. Not much more to say other than if you're looking for a great cup of cawfee and is in the area, no need to look any where else; Caffee Ladro is where it's at.

    (4)
  • Erica D.

I was pretty disappointed, the coffee tasted a little burned and they didn't have any coffee cozies. It seemed like a cute little place though, and proudly featured local stuff there. There's better coffee in Seattle though.

    (3)
  • Ivan S.

A damn good latte, and I love those little vegan rhubarb thingies. They get 4 stars because the big table in the middle makes me feel like I'm in a conference room... plus, when I brought my sister here last year and she ordered a cappuccino, they served her what we old-timey former Seattle baristas used to call a "tourist" - a shot in the bottom of a 12 oz cup, and filled to the rim with that nasty dry crunchy foam. Fuck it, they get 5 stars - I laughed my ASS off that they got my sister at our old game!

    (5)
  • Patty H.

Normally I don't like flavored coffees but their medici latte has just the right amount of orange flavor & chocolate to make a wonderful cup of coffee. It's a must stop for any trip to Seattle.

    (5)
  • Travis D.

When i first saw the sign on a recent trip to Seattle i thought it said 'Caffe Lardo', which is way more awesome than Caffe Ladro. Perhaps that explains why i needed a cup of coffee so bad. Great coffee, cool staff, love this place.

  • Winona R.

So, when I originally reviewed this cafe, I was in fact thinking of another location, but the review's details ring true, for the most part. I recently revisited the 1st & Union location, and while their coffee continues to delight and amaze, I think I prefer the 8th & Pine location as a place to hang out. This cafe is great for a quick stop--grabbing a coffee to go, or a quiet moment to yourself in the middle of a hectic day--but I don't think I would choose this as a cafe to study in as it is pretty small and there was a fair amount of traffic while I was in there. I love that they share the building with an art gallery, because it gives you plenty to admire should you pop upstairs to use their restrooms.

This was the best coffee drink I had in Seattle, the land of coffee. Love to help out the little shops and they delivered.

    (4)
  • Felix T.

Ahh... this was stop one on my Seattle Coffee tour, and it was a good way to start. I decided I would just go for an espresso to start my Seattle coffee experience, and I am happy I did. The espresso was right around that perfect balance of strength and smoothness, not too acidic but still with a healthy bite. I will say the weak spot was the scone, too crumbly to eat in a clean fashion. I do however love the location and atmosphere. This is right on the verge of 4 stars for me but I think a few other places in the area I have tried top this. Still a solid cafe though.

    (3)
  • Sam H.

I dunno... maybe we hit it on a bad night. I LOVE espresso and drink it regularly. There's was terribly sour... not bitter. Sour. And it's too noisy. They need something to tone down the ambient noise. Really I'd much prefer cafe vita coffee or even better... caffe umbria. Fortunately the company was good or it would have been a bust. Also, one of the reviews says that's Tony's. I don't think so... I used to live in Bellingham and drank Tony's almost every day for 5 years. If someone is brewing Tony's at Ladro, they are destroying some really excellent coffee. If you want good Tony's coffee in Seattle, they serve it up at PCC Markets. Service was nice enough... so not 1 star.

    (2)
  • Josh M.

Although the setting for this particular Caffe Ladro is uninspired, they mostly serve the take-out crowd and the latte's they serve warrant no less than 4 stars. Smooth and rich without a trace of bitterness, these are fine drinks made from damned good beans. That, and the staff were warm and friendly, making this a great place to stop for a pick-me-up while you're down near the Market.

  • Trish J.

I tried this location while waiting for the SAM to open. The baristas are awesome and my yankee dog was greater. Although, a smaller version of other coffee houses, its a great place for people watching. I highly recommend this place.

  • Mariana P.

I have a secret.... a deep dark secret. I work for Starbucks and I LOVE this place. I was waiting for someone to pick me up downtown and I stumbled into this place because it was the only coffee shop in the area that was open. Good stuff. Great scones! Yum yum! Also, great drip coffee. The barista was also really cool and they were playing awesome music.

    (4)
  • Cathaleya C.

My husband and I watched Travel Channel as a wildly boisterous Rachel Ray speak with pride about this place and its Medici Mocha. It's made with orange peel during a brewing process. Let me tell you, I do not believe any coffee shops in Chicago (where I'm from) offers this kind of drink because if it did, it would be my favorite on the menu.

    (5)
  • Ariel W.

I'm so glad I found this place. Not such great coffee, but the pastries were great and they have vegan treats too. I'm glad I went because it was hard to find a nice cafe in the downtown area that wasn't a chain. I have to agree that the savory scones are great.

    (4)
  • Raleigh C.

I love Soy Lattes and this place just made the best soy latte i've ever had. I'd give it 5 stars just for that but $3.90 for a small soy latte is a bit extreme but it was worth it.

    (4)
  • Mark D.

I've only had their hot chocolate and it's fantastic. My friend had their peppermint/licorice tea which was recommended, sounds gross, but tasted really good. They specialize in fair-trade coffee, cool art, and awesome service.

    (4)
  • Prema J.

I've been to several other Caffe Ladros but this one is the best designed. They have an elevated outdoor patio, floor to ceiling windows, and bottle trees- veerrrry cool. There was lounge music playing when I was there with a bunch of locals hanging out with their dogs. Oh sorry, the soy latte was delicious too! But sometimes the setting makes a coffee place for me. What is the point of a really good latte on the run? It is more about getting your fix than the experience at that point. Sip your coffee and smell the roses dude- life is short.

    (5)
  • Nichole D.

i was told by and ex seattlite to come here cuz "it's the best coffee in Seattle" so like a good little tourist. i did. she was right, i got a carmel latte, they use carmel sauce, not the syrup. it was sweetened just right, the foam was perfect and it had this leaf swirl design on it. you can tell these people know what they are doing, real barista's work here. you order you coffee first, straight from the the barista, then pay the cashier. that is how it should be. the place it self was small, but had a modern yet relaxed feel with some art on the walls. i had a butter horn to go with my coffee, man i wish i lived in seattle!!

  • jenny w.

There is one here and one on 15th in cap hill. The coffee is full of flavor and made well. It ispretty consistsnt. I like the variety and how quaint it is in the hustle and bustle. There is no parking but on the street. Make it an adventure and take the bus down!

Good coffee, usually lots of seats. Love their medicci mocha.

    (4)
  • Margaretta L.

A tiny, homey coffee stop in big ol' downtown? Of course! This branch of the Cafe Ladro establishment is small, but stuffed with great coffeehouse fare, abandoned papers, and executives in the financial services industry trying to get their morning Joe. In the afternoon, Cafe Ladro becomes a Starbucks alternative for coffee after a visit to SAM. Cozy and always full of energy, people-watch at Ladro with a nice slice of pie.

    (4)
  • megan d.

Im not sure if this is a chain that expands beyond seattle. However their organic coffee is delicious. Ladro also makes their own pastries that i would highly recommend. The decor at the Ladros' is generally simple and clean which can make for an easy place to linger at.

    (5)
  • Mallory P.

I really like Ladro and I would put it on par with Cafe Vita. It's a little bit more accessible, though and thus is a greater alternative to Starbucks (by a long shot). Ladro serves Tony's coffee, I believe, and I'm a total die hard fan of Tony's since it is the best coffee served in Bellingham.

    (4)
  • Angie K.

Pretty good coffee. I am not sure why they are always winning awards, but they are definitely a good place to stop for coffee on 1st and Union.

  • Sandra P.

Clean, has A/C running, and some creamy lattes. Boyfriend got the Arnold Palmer with hibiscus, perfect after beating the crowds over at Pike Place with this 85 degree weather. Super friendly service, paid $3.40 something for an 8 oz. latte.

  • Reid T.

Ladro makes great coffee and decent pastries. The product is not in question here. The service I have received at this location over the past 6 months has been nothing short of the worst coffee house experience I have ever had in my 27 years of living in Seattle. I have thought about writing one of these reviews on here for a long time, but today's experience pushed me over the edge. I can deal with a long line. Time is money, but hey, you can't rush art. I can deal with a mistakes. Rebound quickly and apologize. No big deal. What I CANNOT abide is a rude barista who is sarcastic and obnoxious every step of the way. From the greeting to my order being placed in my hands, this employee who works the machines is always the root of the problem at this Ladro. Each time I have walked in she greets me with a smart aleck remark about ordering a beverage. Today she was nice enough to not serve me my doppio espresso (yes, the easiest drink to make) until she had made the 6 drinks ordered after mine. I had to remind her of my order once the line had been completely cleared. I work in an office nearby full of 1100 employees and can say with utter certainty I am not the only person who had an experience like mine with this employee. When they had a different staff last year, it was my favorite place to grab a coffee. But since they brought in a new staff the place has fallen into a shambolic state. I will never go to this place again. The location on 15th? Sure. I'd love to stop in. But from now on, I'll be going to Fonte around the corner. Heck, even Starbucks in the basement of Target is a better option. Rant, like my Ladro patronage, OVER.

  • Ardie M.

Love this place. Their coffee is like crack, I can't stop coming whenever I have the opportunity to. It's way better than Starbucks, their coffee can't even compare. I wish they would open up more spots though.

  • Natasha P.

Gonna keep it simple: the latte is so good it gives my coworker goosebumps, the diablo is rich and delicious and bold, the tables and the bench seating is perfect for some light gossiping or reading a Palahniuk novel. Such a breath of fresh air from your average coffee shop.

    (4)
  • Graham M.

Wandered in here looking for an espresso and was floored. They had a fantastic single-origin that day that was doubtless the best espresso I've ever had. The woman at the counter was super helpful and pleasant as well. Strongly recommended.

  • Ruben H.

Tried way too many times and each time the drip coffee is surprisingly lame and leaves you wanting so much more, especially my money back. This is really too bad because its a block away from my place.

I work next door, so I'm a regular. Great staff, great coffee, great pastries. :)

The quality is solid but the folks don't know how to manage a line. A year ago they were on point but now with two people in line it takes 15 minutes to get your coffee. Multiple that by more and you'll spend your first morning meeting in Ladro. It's probably the change in employees cause now it seems like they don't care for the customer experience. The prices are on the higher side as well.

Nice quiet place to chill on a cold afternoon. I ordered their signature Medici - mocha with orange zest. Latte art was misshapen and didn't resemble anything in particular, it was slightly disappointing. The mocha though was pleasant, with the orange notes shining through. It wasn't overly sweet like most mochas. In fact there wasn't a strong chocolate taste, but it was enjoyable. Not a stand out, but a nice place to visit for a relaxing afternoon.

I've been to Caffe Ladro a whopping 3 times, but I do live like 900 miles away. Every time I've had the best cup of coffee ever. The first time I visited was 3 or 4 years ago. The most recent was yesterday. Quality has in no way diminished from the first time, which is impressive. This particular Caffe Ladro is just up the street from Pike Place Market. I had some grand notion of hitting up the original Starbucks (I'm a former employee, so I wanted to at least see the place) ... The line was out the door and almost to the end of the block. I decided against standing in line (I have better things to do), so we headed to Caffe Ladro. It is of course a superior choice. The espresso is never bitter and burned. The baristas are always the kindest. I've been to 3 locations and all 3 have a great atmosphere. We didn't make it to another store to get beans for our home espresso machine, so we'll have to order online. ;)

I really enjoy working (from) here! The baristas are pretty friendly, their mochas are good, the wifi is fast enough for everything I need to do, and it's normally easy to find a table that allows me to both get comfortable AND charge my laptop or phone. What else is important? Oh. Location. Good thing they are in a GREAT location! Japonessa (next door) is a great place to grab a bite before or after you grab a cup of coffee (and, maybe, spend a couple hours reading or working). LOVE this location!

I am happy I continued to walk away from the crowded Pike Place and found this gem... Great Latte served by a friendly barista in a wide mug as it should. Enough place to sit down and enjoy... If it wasn't 3000 miles from home I would consider to make this my regular spot.

Coffee: 1 star. Baristas/ Musical Selection: 5 stars = 3 stars from me. I have to say- the other day my regular drip coffee was almost undrinkable...undrinkable...is that a word? Looks weird, well- the spell correct isn't trying to warn me otherwise...ANYHOO! I ordered black coffee: I don't know what was going on this particular day, but the coffee had a vegetal taste that I almost thought I was drinking vegetable broth. I even lifted the lid to see if I'd been had...no dice, it was coffee...but, some type of veggie coffee? I dunno- I tried to shake it, ate some of my breakfast to cleanse the ol' palate, and still came through...I'm talking celery and carrots y'all. Now- their drinks (from other Ladro's I've visited) usually are pretty solid, so maybe just hit a bad batch. The gals running the shop were great though: MC HAMMER? Dude...I was digging. I'll stop in when in a pinch and in dire need of caffeine, otherwise- I'll just brew my own.

I got a Vanilla Latte. The coffee was good, not so bitter. The layout of this particular shop was confusing. The people working there were welcoming. The other customers were friendly too. I'd like to try one of their specialty drinks next time.

Get the medici. Get it iced. Get it with soy milk. Thank me later.

I like stopping by this spot whenever I'm downtown or need to meet someone. It can also be an excellent double-header with the adjoining Japonessa or Target. The coffee is pretty good, though most shops in Seattle need to meet that bar or quickly go extinct. At least on weekends, this location is generally pretty empty too, so it's great for meeting folks who want to chat a while as much as it is for grabbing a coffee to go. Friendly service is always present. A great, tourist-free place to stop and get coffee when you're near the market.

Cashier was super friendly. Coffee and latte were perfect. They had a quiche with feta and spinach with a fluffy croissant crust. A must try per Seattle residents and I agree.

I've passed on foot, car, bus many times right passed this location and never saw it... how, I do not know! It wasn't until someone suggested to meet up here, that I actually saw it for the first time! I'm glad I did, because it is located in a tourist area and the other local coffee shops are crowded with people. Here, it is cozy tucked in its small corner mimicing the art on its walls which is convenient since the SAM is nearby. The coffee was good. And I appreciate the company offers a variety of base selections from cow, lean cow, rice, soy! I'll be back, but I may try your sibling locations!

Still an excellent "run" uphill from my new hotel, in the heavy mist of morning. Two bags of beans in my carryon for home. Mmmm.

ok.. i've been holding off writing this review for a couple months now hoping things would go back to normal. A few months ago there was a major change in the staff here at the downtown ladro location. It was not a change for the better. it took the new employees/management a few weeks just to figure out how they wanted customers lining up. Many of us were just simply standing around looking at eachother wondering where to go or who was up next. I used to be able to walk into ladro with 5 customers ahead of me and get out in about 5 mins. Now.. it is a rarity to walk out of there under 15 mins for a single latte. 5 months ago i would have given 5 stars. But, today i can post a measly 2. If the coffee wasn't as good as it is i would teeter on the one side. Please get it together as i do enjoy your coffee, but don't want to have to take a lunch break in order to get it.

Visited here a few times during the past weekend and it's a cool spot. Friendly staff, nice places to sit for studying or chatting, and the menu wasn't too difficult. Tried their Iced Chai Tea Latte which was immensely delicious.

I was happy to see it open! I was visiting from the east coast, still on EC time on Saturday morning and horrified that so many coffee places where not open after 7am on Saturday? Really even starbucks was closed downtown. WTF, in DC I think it's law they all open at 5am. Anyways I was happy to find caffe ladro. The coffee was good and the Batista was awesome. She was very friendly and even though I was the only one there, on it. If I'm ever back in Seattle will come back.

I love Caffe Ladro. Highlights of the menu include their chai tea latte and gluten free almond cranberry cake! The atmosphere is calm and soothing with fast Wi-Fi. This is a great café for reading, studying, or just relaxing.

Im so spoiled from living right near this Ladro for a few years that most other coffee places cant compete! Their soy cappuccino with a ham and swiss croissant is the perfect start to my day. Seriously well done espresso drinks. There is a different location of Ladro where I now live that I also enjoy but I just wanted to give some extra love to the baristas at the downtown location. They are so friendly and sweet. This is hands down my favorite coffee place in Seattle so far.

I'll admit it. I'm a regular. There are many things this place does right: good coffee, friendly service, and great hours. The huge convenience to this place is that they're open at the crack of dawn, when it's difficult to find a Starbucks or other chain shop willing to open at that hour. I love that I can work my miserably early shift and still fetch a hot beverage to start my day. That being said, I'd issue a few disclaimers. The place is cozy, but it's small, so a large group may feel a little pressed for space. The prices are good, but the menu can be a little ambiguous - especially because the baked desserts never seem to have proper labels, so it's difficult to know what's what unless you ask the barista to name each one for you. Put up some labels, guys! They have pies you can order, but no visible pie menu. Specialty coffees you can order, but almost no information about them. This seems to be a running trend. Also, speediness isn't always their main asset. It really depends on your barista. Some of them are speedy, and others.. take.. their.. time. So if you've only got five minutes to run off to work, you'll probably want to go someplace else. But if you've got a few more minutes to spend, and you're a bit more at your leisure, this is a pleasant, comfortable spot. Prices are pretty decent, too, and unlike Starbucks, their beverages are not always burn-your-taste-buds-off hot. When you don't have 20 minutes to wait for your coffee to cool down, that's a definite plus. (You'll still have to give it a few minutes though, fyi.) Also, maybe they've changed it since some of the earlier reviews, but the music's never been too loud during my visits here. It's at a nice volume, where you can listen and still hear yourself talk and carry on conversation just fine. I have no complaints on that front. The location is awesome, once you find it. Just look for their yellow neon sign, with the guy in a trenchcoat. Blink and you'll miss it, but they do a lot with their small space. (And like others said, a good stop for fair trade products.)

  • Jess C.

Organic, fair trade coffee. Super friendly service. Free Wi-Fi. Small coffee shop connected to a fancy office building. And yet I had no trouble snagging a seat. They also serve several baked items (no sandwiches). I think the espresso is good quality, but it has too many notes of fruit and acidity. I prefer my espresso more smooth. Most whoopie pies I have a somewhat stale cake, BUT HOLY MOLY the whoopie pies here are delicious. Soft, dense cake with a creamy, delicious cream cheese. I love that it's not too sweet. Note: Free Wi-Fi (Ladro - no password)

"Ughhhh... I need coffee", I said to my fiancé.. *walks across street. What's that? "Caffe larro...? Lad... Luh... Lets just check it out!" it looked simple and cozy from outside, so we went in. Shared a quick short soy latte.. It was delicious, even the somewhat bitter coffee foam.. I loved it! Thank you for existing in front of my eyes :]

Nice guy behind the counter, great latte art. COFFEE NOT BURNT. Gosh I cannot stress enough how nice it is to not have burnt coffee. If ur at pikes, its worth walking here. Pikes coffee joints burns coffee 4/5 times. Haven't had a burnt coffee here yet

This evil little place destroyed my palate! I'm now unable to go to Starbucks anymore! Ladro's coffee is so smooth and tasty. I've not tasted such nice expresso since I was in Italy. Each cup is individually made which makes it a little slower than Stabucks but trust me, drinking a cup of their coffee is an experience in itself that is worth waiting the extra minute or so.

Is that a small art gallery connected next door? Hmm... pretty neat! I really like the table for 6 - those chairs are super comfy and would be a cool chill spot for a small group. Nice, modern crisp lighting and space. They have sweet (Sattwa) and spicy (Morning Glory) chai --- Sattwa's a new one to me so def trying that! ....---ooo, niice. Service was ok, if only a bit preoccupied. I wish they had actual sleeves and not extra cups for handling hot cups.

I have passed by this place many times. Easy to do, since the location is in the lobby of an office building across from the Seattle Art Museum. I was meeting up with my cousin and his GF over for lunch next door at Japonessa, so I decided to lounge at Ladro a bit before they arrived. The interior is small. It is akin to a hiding place. There is an unusual door to the side which was a few feet above the floor. Almost like this is a makeshift space never intended to be a coffee shop. The coffee counter is on the small side too, but they seem to carry a good amount of baked goods here. While I was here, a couple people were discussing living in Tokyo and how places there are small. Come to think of it, this space is kind of how I would imagine a coffee shop in Tokyo to be. Small, tightly quartered, yet efficient with space. I got a double tall latte ($2.95) and a lemon tart ($2.75). The double tall latte was nice. As solid as any of the other good coffee shops that I have tried. An enjoyable drink while I browsed the web on my iPad using the wifi while generic coffee shop jazz music was playing in the background. Saved the lemon tart for later and I thought it was just okay. A little too tart for my taste and the crumbly type crust was just fine. Needs some sweetness. It does have a very creamy texture that I like. If only this had been a lemon custard tart, it might have won me over. Overall, I like Ladro. The location is centrally located in downtown and the coffee is good. The ambiance is okay. Not much you can do with this small space to make the square footage seem larger, but it is a reasonably comfortable place to hang out.

Ladro runs at a different pace, given its location I found it as a great quiet alternative to the get in and out cafes in the area. If you care about coffee preparion rather than speed this is the place to get your cup of Joe. I would come back to have a cup and read a Magazine

Great coffee, but c'mon, stuff the attitude. I used to frequent the Ladro on near Paramount. Can't beat wet cappuccino. We went here the other day for some midday caffeine fix. Seriously f'ing rude service. I mean, guy.... Barista = not a single word, no eye contact, dunno, must have been a long day or something, but we definitely felt pretty unwelcome. Pretty much received the "I guess what do you want, now get out" vibe. That was just us, they seemed to play nice with everyone else. .... tipped anyway. I've been in food service. Probably won't go back here, just not feeling it. Oh yeah, I don't have another coupon either. Maybe that was it. Whatever, you can still darn fine espresso here. Thanks for listening.

I am so glad that Ladro has a location here. I am a huge fan of their coffee, but this particular location offers a much needed escape from the touristy, Starbucks-laden area around Pike Place. The staff here is lovely to be around and makes you feel welcome to sit and take a break from the hectic pace of downtown. Next time to find yourself in the area, I recommend Ladro as your choice for a caffeine fix....and why not grab a piece of their incredible apple pie? Seriously, it's my favorite pie in the city. Do it!

Medici While the place could definitely use a cleaning (especially the front counter), their coffee is quite tasty. And the barista has some good recommendations! So good in fact, that I now have a new favorite coffee-beverage. The Medici!

I first discovered Cafe Ladro in Queen Anne years ago, where I used to stop by on the way to see my dress maker, Renata. I had lived in Seattle already a few years back then, and not really new to espresso drinks. But the cappuccino at Cafe Ladro would kick my butt so hard, I would sit there feeling like the terracotta-colored walls were pulsating. So when, many years later on my most recent visit to Seattle, I happened upon Cafe Ladro in downtown, I had to stop traffic and tow my girl friends in there. It's a smaller space than the Queen Anne location but there were still enough tables and as always, friendly baristas. Alas, the cappuccino was only ok. Was it because my memory of the early experience has faded with years of being away? Maybe, but I still have Seattle on a pedestal when it comes to coffee, what I had on my first day of visit was a bit disappointing. I wish I had had enough time to visit the original location but I did not. Hopefully next time I will.

My sister and I visit Seattle a few times a year and when we do this is the first place we go to. I only wish there was a Cafe Ladro in San Francisco! Just thinking about their foaming cup of deliciousness is making my mouth water. Furthermore, you can tell the espresso is good quality. I get the the non fat or soy vanilla latte and it is outstanding. My only strife with the place is the decor is too contemporary and the seating is not that comfortable. But, other than that we love this place!

Friendly. Good treats. Damn good coffee. Dropped in for a quick espresso before seeing Gauguin at Seattle Art Museum. They have AeroPress here too! I resisted (it was VERY difficult) but I spotted a HUGE apple pie on display that looked delicious. Almost mouthwatering to be quite honest.

Cafe Ladro is my 2nd favorite latte place (yes, I'm a Starbucks addict). Weird location (glass cafe in the bottom of an apt building). Inside is stark and in my opinion dated. However, the barista girl working was awesome and my drink, grande Medic, fantastic. I love that they don't put to much chocolate in and rea orange peel. Will definitely stop here again it I come by when they are open!
