I'll admit, my experience with coffee shops other than "The Big S" is somewhat limited, and living in San Diego has thus far kept me from experiencing the Coffee Nirvana most Seattle-ites take for granted. I AM, however, quite picky about my cuppa! Must be strong, complex, rich, unsweetened and with whip or froth as it's crowning glory... Wow, did I find GLORY at Cafe Javasti last week! Hubby and I were on our way to visit an old friend who lives a few blocks from this location and decided to stop in for a quick snack and latte to go. First of all, the gals behind the counter were the sunniest faces in all of Washington. Friendly and smiling, they helped create a very welcoming vibe. One scone (What were we thinking? Sharing was more difficult than we imagined!) a latte with an extra shot (for myself) and a cup of coffee (for da man) in our hands, I wasn't even out the door before my steps were halted. "Honey!... TASTE THIS!"... His exact words were: "Oh. My. God." Yup, a religious experience at Javasti. The flavor of the coffee, rich, complex and creamy... with the rich foam of the heavens... our eyes bugging out from pleasure (and perhaps a bit of caffeine buzz), we fairly danced back to the car. The very next day, we drove 40 minutes out of our way (and through noteworthy weekend traffic!) to recreate our experience and pick up two pounds of the Batdorf & Bronson Vesuvio Blend beans purported to be the "coffee culprit". My previous favorite Verona beans have been overlooked daily as I reach for this B&B blend to grind every morning. Even a simple brew of this cup is a joy. Not Italian espresso pulled/frothed joy, but wonderful nonetheless. Our visits to WA now mean a visit to Cafe Javasti! Can't wait for our next trip!

Oh - The Scones, The Scones !!! Small quibbles: I wish they would add one more little table, (yes-it's a small place) plus add reading lights to the tables. And the drip coffee could be better.

Typical of Maple Leaf businesses, Cafe Javasti is a low-key and friendly establishment with great coffee and yummy food. Their crepes are prepared fresh and they are delicious. Choices include both sweet and savory varieties, including black forest ham. Great service, free internets and no attitude.

I usually crave pancakes for breakfast but I decided to try having crepes instead especially since I was in the neighborhood. The olive tapenade crepe, the chicken mozzarella and pesto crepe, and the Nutella banana crepe were all very good. Of the two savory crepes, the olive one was most flavorful. The Nutella one was for dessert and was my favorite. It wasn't too sweet and had these toasted almonds and whipped cream on it that really added a nice touch. Had a mocha as well and it was mediocre. It wasn't frothy enough. The menu had quite a few options of crepes for different preferences and eating restrictions. I would suggestion they offer fresh juices or smoothies. That would be the perfect touch. They have some outside seating but the traffic is a bit noisy and the choice of music inside wasn't great and was way too loud. The staff was helpful and the food came quickly. I will definitely be back for more!

This place is freaking awesome. First let me say, the staff rocks. They're super nice, hot or of their way to spoil my dog, and they make killer coffee! Yes, the coffee here is great, even better than that, though, is their delicious selection of crepes! I've almost tried them all, and all of them are AMAZING. My only complaint is that it's a little pricy to eat here... that being said, you deffinately get a high quality product in exchange for your monies.

I'm bumping my review update to four stars. I stopped by here yesterday for a sugar fix and this place had exactly what I needed - warm chocolate chip cookie and a cup of java. It was perfect beyond words and hit a much needed spot in my belly. I have to say, having this place within walking distance of your house is a luxury in itself and I'm right in the middle of it! Yay for Javasti!

Good spot for a quick bite or some coffee if you are in the area. I just finished a hot Ozo crepe and a cappuccino, they were not bad. The Ozo was tasty and was balanced quite nicely with the olives and artichoke hearts. It was served with a simple presentation (open to see the ingredients). The crepe it self was a little over done on certain parts and did not have the nice fully texture. It felt too crunchy and dry; however the rest of my crepe was soft and fluffy. The cappuccino had a smooth and creamy feeling while holding its foam till the last drop. You could really taste the coffee, and it had a really nice after taste that stays in your mouth for a while. Their coffee is from batdorf and Bronson coffee roasters. Overall the food and drink is not bad, just not anything super good. It is a place I would go to if I was in the area and wanted coffee or crepe, but I would not drive out to this place. With that said, it is also not a place for reading or work if you like a chill cafe environment, it was quite loud when I visited this spot. And with the other reviewers, the workers are not super nice, they seem indifferent.

LOVE THIS PLACE. One of my good friends lives in the neighbor hood, and this is our meet up spot. They have amazing crepes and really satisfying espresso for a great price. I recommend their chai tea latte or even just a plain latte. The cafe is quite large, and really great for families. They have a small selection of pastries, but a menu that would be great for a stop in lunch.

Bomb coffee. Loved the pumpkin bread. Love the ambience. Great service and really nice baristas. I'll be sure to come back whenever I'm in the area. Especially since they're next to Kona Kitchen.

This place was just down the street from where we were staying for our trip so we decided to check it out one morning. I ordered a short vanilla latte and a sautéed mushroom crepe. The vanilla latte was good. The sweetness was just how I like my lattes so I'm glad I wasn't disappointed. As for the crepe, i like the fluffy texture it had. The ingredients are simple and straightforward with no sauces to overwhelm the flavor of the mushrooms. Overall, I liked this place but I wouldn't say their items were life changing in any way. It's a good place to stop if you want a quick drink or meal.

A friend of mine was craving crepes in the late afternoon, and I wasn't sure where to take her in the Ballard area, knowing that a lot of brunch/crepe places are closed by 2-3 pm. I used Yelp to find Cafe Javasti, read the reviews, and off we went to explore. I was super pleased (and surprised) at how tasty the crepes are here! When I first arrived, I wasn't sure if I wanted a savory or sweet crepe, because quite honestly, both options sounded really tempting. I went with a ham, spinach, swiss, and pesto (an addition I requested), and boy, it was really tasty. Hit the spot perfectly. The coffee here is excellent, too! The barista made my "high-maintenance" breve au lait perfectly. This inside is really charming and cozy, too. It was raining the day we visited, which probably contributed to the inviting feeling inside. I saw quite a few people camped out with a cup of coffee and their laptops. There is also local art on the wall that you can buy. I imagine this gets changed out frequently. Since I'm a late weekend sleeper, Cafe Javasti is perfect for me to be able to wake up late and still get the brunch fare I am craving. I am definitely going to return!

Everything is perfect about this place. Great neighborhood coffee shop and I crave the marionberry or peach scones and/or the chocolate zucchini cake. If you have not tried their scones, you are missing out on a big treat.

I enjoy stopping in from time to time to try a new coffee drink. There is one employee who is just a sweet heart. Then last week I saw her fall and it just broke my heart. I have not seen her since so I sure hope she is alright. Great coffee! 5 stars!

I come to Café Javasti because I really enjoy the community here, and the staff is pretty friendly. I love the fact that I can get a buckwheat crêpe, sans gluten, and a fabulous dairy-free, dark chocolate hot cocoa. That hot cocoa just warms my heart and my body. I'm constantly meeting fascinating strangers, and making new friends, along with sharing lots of stories. I can walk here, or drive, and find plenty of street parking. It may be a little bit of a wait for the food, but it's worth it with all of the good conversation. Bring your laptop and get a little work done using their Wi-Fi for free. Whether you're here for the coffee, the tea, the crepes - gluten-free or regular - fruity and sweet or savory, the pastries, the quiche, or just the company, it's all good. They're open from early in the morning until 7 at night, and on the bus line for the 66 and 67. What I want more of, really tasty gluten free crepe batter (buy some Pamela's GF baking mix), cookies or pastries, its easy to make in-house or order from a local gf baker. The buckwheat isn't really that good, I just eat it cuz you're close to me and don't have another option. I'd love to really enjoy the crepes!

Cafe Javasti feels like a hidden oasis to me. Although I have been to both locations this one on 5th is my home. They always have Toddy which is a big plus for me. They serve batdorf and bronson which is great coffee from Olympia and they have an organic blend I purchase here for my home. So far for me these are the best crepes. They only use fresh fruit which is so much nicer than canned or frozen. The J. Crue is my absolute favorite. Fresh strawberries, whipped cream, Nutella and rainbow sprinkles!

    (5)
  • Billy T.

In addition to serving some great coffee, Javasti bakes all of their pastries in-house daily. As someone who lives near the cafe, it's torture to smell the delicious treats being prepared nightly! My personal favorite being the fruit jumble bars. But there is always a nice variety of pastries to choose from. Not to mention the crepes! Mmmmmmmm. Whether you're going sweet or savory (strawberry on the sweet and olive tapenade on the savory for me) you'll most likely pick up a meet card for your next trip (they offer a free coffee punch system) I love Javasti!

Drink quality is inconsistent. Personalities are even more inconsistent. Don't come here and expect a smile from behind the counter. Several tables sat at were HORRIBLY uneven and tipped so much lost a blot of my drink. Second table as bad. Few electrical outlets and access to them is usually blocked by blue hairs socializing. The one thing that may have drivem me out for good is their low wifi bandwidth. Totally inadequate for their customer-base. At least the bathrooms are clean.

You can't go wrong with this cute little café the food and coffee is fantastic, I'm hooked and spoiled. I wish they were everywhere but then I guess they wouldn't be so special now would they? I enjoy the community surrounding the area and really enjoy my time there.

I am a drip coffee guy and I go here when I run out at home. It isn't bitter like Starbucks (disgusting drip) and is usually the perfect temperature. Their food is pretty good, even though they stopped using fresh strawberries in their parfaits. Even at 11AM on a weekday this place with be fairly packed. Just a testament to how well they are doing things.

After a lovely Saturday morning at my favorite dance studio, I was looking for a place to get my caffeine fix and get a bite to eat and stumbled upon Cafe Javasti, which provided exactly what I was looking for. They had a couple different kinds of quiche which was perfect for an afternoon snack (might I suggest the chicken variety?), but also have a pretty extensive selection of other pastries and crepes. Their coffee was great and they made a lovely design in my latte...I am such a sucker for latte art! My favorite thing about this place, though, was the community feel. I could tell there were some deep and thought-provoking conversations happening and it was one of those places where staff and patrons recognize each other as if it was some type of weekly ritual for everyone. They definitely have the right coffee shop vibe going on!

Took a walk down the street and ended up at Cafe Javasti. Sipping on a mocha in a nice leather chair relaxing and enjoying the cozy winter atmosphere. Service is great, employees are courteous and kind. Mocha is warm and smooth. I'll be back.

My cappuccino was perfectly divine - foam so velvety thick it lasted till the last drop and offset the toasty espresso perfectly. Strong espresso flavor, in a good way...no need for sugar here! This might sounds weird, but the capuccino also lasted a lot longer than others I've had, partly because of the density of the foam (which kept it hot long enough for me to actually savor it) and partly because of the strong espresso. I almost want to give an extra star for the quality of the drink. I also had the egg, cheddar, bacon, & tomato crepe. It was good, quite filling. I would have preferred crispier bacon, but then again I didn't ask for it. :-) I felt like it was priced fairly. As much as I'd love to try some of the pastries, I might rip my jeans if I try to eat any more. Ambience would have been SO much better if there weren't for a small group of three moms gossiping so loudly that it sounded like they were yelling over each other at times. I mean, they literally hurt my ears. But it's obviously not the cafe's fault. Ambience does matter a lot to me, especially because I like to work in coffee shops, and this one didn't cut it, simply because of the extremely loud clientelle combined with the amplifying acoustics. It really is a shame because the music was lovely - chill old-timey bluegrass and early American jazzy holiday music. I can't stand poppy, loud music at coffee shops (and, no, I'm not an old fogie) so the music choice was much appreciated. Too bad it was wasted. Maybe they'll eventually move to a larger or better built space someday?? Fingers crossed... Of course, it could be that I've been living in Seattle long enough that I'm truly becoming a grumpy, peace-&-quiet-loving introvert, haha. If they fix the noise issue and add a little bit more to their breakfast menu (e.g. scrambles), or just make the crepes a bit snazzier with sauce, I'll definitely add that last star. Friendliness/service was great for me today, by the way!

Cafe Javasti is one of my favorite coffee houses at the moment. They have really good espresso drinks (Batdorf and Bronson beans), especially the latte, and also very good baked goods. The breakfast sandwich was also very tasty, and the use of bacom jam was very appreiated :). They also spcialize in crepes, which looked awesome, but I haven't had a chance to try one yet. Service has always been friendly, and it's no surprise that it's a popular neighborhood spot.

This is for my visit yesterday morning on 11/4/13. I've been going to Café Javasti for well over a decade and it is great to see one of the owners that I interviewed with years ago for a baker's job is still there. What stands out for both locations at the original Maple Leaf and newer and expanded Wedgwood - the ability to create a welcoming neighborhood spot, not a bunch of folks staring solely into their laptops. There's a diverse mix of people who come in to also meet up for lively and engaging conversation. Consistent high quality, tasty products made on the premises plus pleasant barista/counter staff. My go to favorites: the mochas, of course, plus the pumpkin bread, chocolate chip cookies, blueberry scone, and either the ham/swiss/spinach crepe or the #9 egg/bacon/cheddar/tomato crepe. I also recall having a soup special at Wedgwood (mushroom and brie, I think?) that was exceptional. Whether I've stopped in briefly or able to stay and linger awhile, I've had always a great experience. Again, the #9 crepe hit the spot that morning before a doctor's appointment. I also ordered a pumpkin chocolate chip scone out of curiosity to take home. I ate half this morning and it was delicious a day later - nice flavorful and tender crumb. It's terrific to see an independent neighborhood café on a successful track for many, many years.

ehhh, owner should tell its employees to be a less whiny about this and that while customers try and enjoy the coffee they paid for. plus i really dislike listening to top 40 music in general and in cafes. i guess thats what rental car sound systems are for. guess what I'm trying to say is employes talking over loud top 40 music is kinda outdated. throw in a couple screaming children, spray whip cream on top of the baristas forgotten hot chocolate drink and you got an awesome neighborhood cafe.

We ordered coffee, tea and two crepes. After waiting 15 minutes and not getting the crepes, we inquired how much longer it would be. Only to find we were the only people ordering and they still forgot to make them. The service staff was too busy discussing giving up sugar etc. to remember they were taking orders that needed to be filled. Won't be going back.

Very cozy and intimate little cafe. Staff were super friendly and awesome. Deciding to get a sweet or savory was a tough choice since they all sounded amazing and I was starving. Unfortunately, I only got the fresh mushroom crepe which was just as fresh as the name is. It look a while for the crepe to arrive on our tables (The staff mentioned it will take around 15 minutes). It also took some time to get a table. I had a pleasant experience here and will be back!

I came here last week and ordered a spinach and mozzarella crepe and orange juice for breakfast. Having grown up with an orange tree in my backyard I was pleasantly surprised to find that their OJ is fresh squeezed. At many places it's either OJ or advertised fresh squeezed. But no, not Cafe Javasti. It's just "orange juice" because how else should it be served other than freshly squeezed? Shut up, I know what you're thinking. I'll quit talking about orange juice. Their spinach and mozzarella crepe, on the other hand wasn't my cup of tea. I love spinach and I should have known better when ordering a plate of something that's mostly that vegetable. Every bite left that strange film in my mouth. I could only bear to eat half of my crepe before sadly tossing it. Next time, I'll have to order something with more ingredients in it to balance out the spinach. Lesson learned. My husband finished his own savory crepe and enjoyed his cappuccino, which I thought were both delicious as well. The baristas were friendly and it was busy with regular patrons. It seems like your genuinely good neighborhood coffee shop.

The crepes took forever to arrive. When we went to the counter to check on how long the crepes would take, we saw the crapes sitting on the electronic crape maker unattended. It was not very warm when it was served. Coffee tasted like chlorine. Not going back.

Leave no stone unturned, as least that has been my motto, for the scone par have excellence in Seattle. I have grown weary, coffee shop after coffee shop, of scones that miss the mark. Too sweet, too dry, not flavorful enough. I hail Seattle's coffeshops, but have noticed that they are becoming homogeneous in their baked good selection. Cafe Javasti almostly instantaneously won my heart. And the scones, oh, the scones. I can only say perfect, even as I scourge my mind for other great scones I have had in the Emerald. What makes Javasti's scones stand out, where do I start? They are baked in house daily. There are a variety of flavors rotating throughout the week (I tried Orange cranberry, blueberry, and Strawberry Almond). I hear on the weekend there is a killer Cinnamon Roll scone. The balance was pretty perfect in each scone; flavorful, not too sweet, light, but with the buttery richness a scone exudes. Javastis' whole baked good selection looked delightful, not to mention their coffee. They use a roaster out of Olympia, Batdorf and Bronson, which is a welcomed change in the land of Vita, Victrola, LIght House, ect. My latte was perfect and coming from an experienced and critical barista, that is saying alot. Did I mention Javasti has a full line-up of in house crepes as well. That is for my next visit. My, oh my, three cheers for Javasti (there is one in Wedgewood too!)

I happened upon this place looking for a small 'hood place to eat. I got the strawberry crepe, nothing out of the ordinary, but good. Strawberries were very good and the cream on top was delicious. I would say only thing that would make it have some kick is to put something inside other than the strawberries and to give it some glue. I will definitely go back and try another crepe. Great neighborhood establishment to support.

It is very close to my house and so I go there when I'm out of coffee, but they are very slow and each time I regret going. As others have said, their food is good, but I expect a coffee shop to be faster at getting customers through the line... I don't have time to wait behind a mom and her giant stroller that is exchanging lengthy pleasantries with the staff... move it along so we can get our order in already! I just have the impression that the staff don't recognize that some of their customers do value their time and they don't want to spend it waiting in line, and so the staff do nothing to instill a sense of "keep the line going" with customers. There is another coffee shop about 5 blocks away that is larger, has faster service, is also locally owned, and they also have a self service counter for people that just want coffee - you pour it and drop a buck in the jar. Javasti could learn something here. I'd go to Javasti more often (instead of cloud city) if Javasti was faster.

Firstly, and most importantly, Javasti has very good coffee. They have someone selecting beans who seriously knows what they're doing, and batistas who know how to pull a shot or brew a cup. My expectations when walking into a new place are typically, "The beans were burned while roasting, and probably again while brewing," so when I find a cafe where this isn't the case, it counts for a lot. Their pastries are very good, as are their crepes. Plus their prices are very reasonable - I got an americano and a savory crepe for about $10, together, where I'd expect to pay on the order of $15 elsewhere. In any other city, this place would basically be as good as it gets, but, in Seattle, I'm spoiled for having access to EXCELLENT coffee and EXCELLENT crepes, and Javasti isn't quite the best game in town for either. Still, it's exceedingly rare to find a place that does both coffee AND food as good as Javasti does, and I'll definitely be back for more.

Crepes are delicious and the coffee is good. Not too pricey. The atmosphere is wonderful if you hit it on a quiet morning. However, as another reviewer previously mentioned, I often walk in and the stares I get make me feel like I'm intruding on a private party . There is a group of women and their children who routinely run the place (and said children are noisy and naughty!). Other than that, Javasti is great little place.

I had one great experience here, and one terrible. The terrible one outweighed the great one. So, I love crepes. I came here once and got a breakfast crepe with eggs, bacon, veggies... it was a special. At 7 AM and with excellent Americano, in a quiet cozy place where I could read in peace, it was lovely. Then, having experienced something lovely as described above, I came back. It was busier on a weekend morning, with lots of people. Pastries were half gone and the selection remaining was not that exciting (I am picky). So I decided to order a lemon crepe. My memory of a lemon crepe from other places in this city is lovely and sweet - a touch of lemony syrup - or curd - and a sugar powder on top. This lemon crepe was... god, how do I describe this abomination... It was a flavorless piece of dry dough with a sprinkling of sugary powder (of which there was not enough to improve the flavor of whatever this was), and a piece of lemon on top. A piece of lemon. That's what they mean by lemon crepe!!! I have no idea if this always happens here, or if the cook that day had a hangover and couldn't bother to actually do his or her job, but with an experience this inconsistent, I am never coming back. And it was totally not worth even the small price I paid for it (4 bucks). Oh, and the amount of screaming kids here is totally not worth coming back. My last pet peeve is that the hours are just silly; for people who work late this place is probably not even an option.

Had a savory crepe for the first time ever, the chicken mozzarella cheese tomatoes and pesto, and I must say...it's pretty good! I have always only had sweet crepes because savory ones seemed disgusting to me, but this place definitely proved me wrong! Had a sweet crepe here too and it's not bad, except the portion (for both) is much smaller than I'm used to for the price. Then again, I am comparing them to creperies in LA. Ordered a white mocha and thought it's really good as well. Tried a sip of their chai tea, not bad either.

Today was my first visit at this coffee shop which is actually close by to where I live. One thing I loved about this cafe was the friendliness of the staff. The cashier was super nice and even helped me decide on what to order. I got a gingerbread latte which not only smelled great but tasted good also. I came here to study because of the space there is inside. I will definitely come back in the future.

  • Tessa R.

Javasti has decent coffee and relatively good food, the reason why I can't give this cafe more than 3 stars is that the crepes take way longer than they should to get out. With two crepe pans, orders shouldn't take 20 minutes. Like I said, the lattes are decent and the staff is super friendly. The walls don't absorb much sound so it gets a little noisy, but if you need a fun people watching place where you can sit and wait for your food, this is the place to go.

Always awesome! Best chai, great sandwiches (Omg wedgewood veggie) and don't forget to try a sweet or savory crepe! Can I also mention how friendly the staff is??? I wish i lived closer. This was going to be 41/2 - 5 stars except on two occasions a newish young cashier rung up by chai for a large/venti price instead of medium/tall... I've never spent over $4 for a tall chai in my life! Anywhere! I'm sure it was an oops and unfortunately I was in such a hurry to get to work that I didn't say anything once I realized what happened.

My go-to neighborhood coffee shop since living in Maple Leaf for the past few years. Nice staff, great coffee and yummy baked goods (I love their chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins)! They serve some good not-too-heavy sandwiches, too, but only on weekdays.

Reasons I Like coming to Javasti: 1- good sunlight, not overwhelming, but not dark and dank. 2- DELICIOUS homemeade pastries, sandwiches, soups and crepes! 3- Good sized tables, with enough room to spread out my homework 4- Even when it's crowded, there's always somewhere to sit. 5- Did i mention the DELICIOUS HOMEMADE FOOD? Reasons I Don't Like Javasti: 1- For some reason, everyone knows each other and sometimes you feel like you're invading someone's private party in their living room... 2- There is almost always one lady with her kids that are running around, knocking over your water onto your homework and then crying while you get a glare from mom for doing nothing wrong.... Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and the food and coffee are great. If you come here early (like 8 or 9) and not on weekends, you're less likely to run into the cons.

Crepes are tasty but a 25 minute wait is not worth it. I guess on a day that isn't so busy though, it's a nice place to find breakfast: Crepes, scones, muffins, fruit, coffee etc.

When I moved right across the street from Javasti over a year ago I thought it would be my new favorite hangout/homework/meet up with friends spot. Well, it never did. The ambience is great, smallish, but lots of places to sit, lowered lighting, big front window. The food the few times I've eaten there has been delicious. However, their coffee leaves much to be desired. I usually have Americanos when I go out for coffee, and it has tasted burnt the few times I've gotten coffee here. The inhouse cappuccino is decent, but not worth repeating.

Eating the cinnamon and sugar crepe right now! For crepes, you have to eat them quickly or else they become a little sodden and cold. The balance of cinnamon and sugar is quite good, spicy enough and not too sweet. It's a little dark for my tastes on the inside, so the outdoor seating is a nice alternative.

There are many solid options for coffee in Maple Leaf, so each must offer something unique to distinguish itself from the rest. Javasti presumably does this by offering freshly made crepes, but I find those somewhat disappointing. However, Javasti more than makes up for thsi by providing excellent baked goods. Muffins, scones, whatever you choose, they're all quite good, and are often prepared in innovative ways. The coffee is pretty good, too. For the baked goods alone, a solid recommendation.

Maybe it's because I went around ten but there was definitely no line when I got there. The baristas were really nice and answered my numerous questions without a trace of annoyance. I found out they make all of their pasteries there (props to them) and I will definitely go back to try their blueberry scone. Loved the environment. A small shop but for it's size there's a fair amount of tables. Not a ton of people hanging out there leaving lots of table free and they have free wifi. I had a double short latte and an apple cinnamon crepe with whip cream. The coffee wasn't amazing but it wasn't terrible. Good enough that it made me happy though for sure. The crepe was not exactly what I was expecting but still really good, especially for the price. My hope is to try one of their savory crepes in the near future.

Nice, homey space but food is mediocre, service and coffee poor. There is one person cashiering and making the creeps. Took 40 minutes to get my egg, bacon, tomato, cheese crepe. Which, by the way, came without the bacon. Coffee was stale. Jewel Box makes better crepes, Cloud City makes better coffee.

I'm a big fan of Cafe Javasti. I like the neighborhood atmosphere, the staff knows my name, and the crepes & baked goods are terrific. Did I mention the baked goods? I wish I could eat the fruit jumble bars everyday but I'd turn into a blimp. They are heavenly. My boys swear the pumpkin bread is the best thing they've ever eaten. I'm a plain-drip-coffee man, myself, and its taste is a little inconsistent. My wife, however, loves the lattes. I also appreciate the fact that it's a small, independent coffee shop. As the son of a former small businesses owner, I appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping a business afloat so I make it a point to drop in for a cup o' joe when I'm in the neighborhood. Keep in mind that It can get really crowded on weekend mornings so if you're claustrophobic like I am or feel panicky in crowds it won't be your scene that time of day. Overall, however, I have to say that Cafe Javasti is a great place to stop for coffee, breakfast, or lunch if you're in the Maple Leaf (and Wedgwood) neighborhood.

Came here on Sunday with my crepe partner.. Donna. The place is a little dark then I am used to. Small like all other crepe places. There was three elderly lady enjoying their crepes & coffee. Consuming crepe with fork & knife. Stuffed and satisfied.

I'm really becoming a fan of Javasti. I started going in just because it was on the way to work and it seems like their coffee tastes better every time I visit. It definitely doesn't compare to some other coffee places in the Seattle area (i.e. Zoka) but it is pretty good. I'd agree with other reviews that their crepes are really freaking delicious!!

I have a feeling I would give it more stars if I ate their crepes. That seems to be their thing more than coffee. There are always ladies with kids and the older regular set eating crepes all up in that place. Perhaps the idea was for a creperie, but the owner knew s/he would have to make coffee too? The baked goods look good, too. Maybe I should go just for eating .... The baristas are always pleasant, in my experience. When I was trying to decide between Javasti and Van Gogh as my regular neighborhood place, I judged based partly on how into conversing with me the baristas were. I had decent luck here. Then there is the coffee. It really isn't very good. I believe you can judge a place on its americano. That tells you (1) is the roast good, and (2) are the baristas adept at their pulls. You can hide anything with milk, but an americano bares the soul. Javasti falls flat. I walk the extra three blocks to Van Gogh's.

I frequent both Javasti locations. The service is always prompt and friendly. Pastries are generally yummy, as are the crepes (even though I do generally prefer more butter on/in my crepes). Coffee is smooth and flavorful, especially the Omar's blend. Ryan and Scott are stellar proprietors. They take the time to get to know their customers and always have a ready "Hi! How's it goin'?". And their stock (in my eyes) just skyrocketed when they held the fund-raising dinners for the Tsunami and Katrina victims. 5 Stars - I love eating there.

When we lived in Maple Leaf, one of the perks was being walking distance from Javasti. Tasty coffee and lattes that always have picture perfect pour art. The staff is friendly and knows almost everyone by name....man I miss that place!! They have their own baker/pastry chef person that makes delicious, fresh daily muffins, scones, and more. My fave is the peach muffin. The best part of the menu (I think) are the crepes.....perfect every time and great for breakfast, brunch or lunch. OK, gonna stop now because Im making myself hungry, and am pretty sure I have to go back there this weekend now. ;)

This place is wildly popular. Always a good sign for coffee shops in Seattle. The staff is always pretty friendly but not annoyingly upbeat (and who can stand that). I don't drink coffee so can't comment on its quality or nature, but the drinks I've gotten from them have been great. Hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, teas... all good. It's a comfortable place to chill out for a while with friends. Great place to grab a morning beverage. They open pretty early and loads of people stop in on their way to work. The shop draws a lot of regulars, and for good reason. There also always seems to be a cute dog tied up outside!

Delicious coffee and ohmigod -- the crepes. There is no better treat on a lazy weekend morning than to sit in the window with a perfectly-prepared latte, an equally perfect crepe stuffed with ham and mozzarella, and a newspaper. Bliss! Aside from the crepes and coffee, the best reason to visit is the staff. They are all unfailingly friendly, quick to chat with newcomers and regulars alike. This is one of the best neighborhood coffee shops in the city.

I'm a total coffee junkie, lived across the street from this place for a year, and never wanted to go in there. Each time I did enter, I had a bad experience. They seem to have a loyal group of regulars (good thing), but the baristas chat with them at the bar for so long that it's hard to tell when they are in line and when you can pick up your coffee. I've picked up the wrong drink more than once. It always stresses me out in there. Somehow Cloud City, with just as many regulars and even more small children, makes it work, while Javasti does not. However, the scones are good.

I visit Seattle frquently and have always looked forward to breaking my fast at Cafe Javasta. They always have had the most delectable baked goods that were worth the day's extra calories. But I'm not that impressed anymore. They have replaced their coffee warmers with thermo units that do not keep the coffee as hot as their original ones did. Also, they raised the cost of the Marion berry scones, but the quality is way done. The moist buttery richness has been replaced with a dry crumbly texture and the filling is skimpy. Depending on who makes the crepes, you can get one with little filling and little seasoning. I will still go there, but not as frequently. And I will stay with espresso drinks, sweet -filled crepes and their sandwiches and other baked goods....as long as they can keep that quality up.

The best coffee shops in Mapleleaf and Wedgwood! My wife and I used to frequent the Mapleleaf location on 5th Ave. Now, we go to the second location in Wedgwood at 8617 35th NE since it's a little closer. Scott and Anne Marie serve up rich Batdorf & Bronson coffee in a pleasing neighborhood shop. The quality of coffee is worlds apart from Starbucks' mass-market approach. It's that attention to detail, and the friendly staff, that keeps us coming in several times a week. Thanks guys!

Javasti is the best! Had a great white chocolate mocha there recently. Nice, laid back neighborhood place, good for hanging out and reading or for mom to have a little break while the kids enjoy their hot cocoa. The crepes make it more than just a coffeehouse and the staff are great.

Ever want to just get up and get some coffee and not have to go to a family reunion, garage sale, or church meeting? You too? Well, walking into this place is like involving yourself in all of those things simultaneously. There is usually a line out the door and the barista's tend to discuss the scriptures and anything else you can imagine with every customer within earshot.

This may be a coffee-drinkers paradise because the coffee is no doubt among the best tasting coffee in Seattle - right up there alongside Joe Bar in Capital Hill - but what about the awesome tasting hot chocolates! Some days I am just coffee-ed out and this place makes the smoothest, and if you ask - not too chocolatey - hot chocolates I have ever tasted. Oh, and the crepes - made right before your eyes - are to die for! Parking is not always available right out the front but no need to worry - just drive around the corner and there is usually ample parking, or if you live close enough leave the car at home and enjoy the walk.

Great espresso, refreshingly good pastries (just had some zucchini chocolate cake which was delicious), and crepes made to order. Oh- and free wireless! I'm not sure what more one could ask for in a coffee shop. I live close by, so I don't know about parking, but there is a bike rack right outside the door where you can hitch your pooch or your bike!

I live in Shoreline, and when I can't stand the lame coffee places there anymore I drive all the way to Maple Leaf to get a drink. Everytime we have people in town this is where I take them for espresso - hands down. The drinks are perfect - not overly sweet - great espresso. And, the pastries are made in store and amazing. Love it, wish there was one in Shoreline.

First time visit, late on a Saturday morning, immediately felt contradictory sensations: cozy, perhaps family run, with some nice lighting and colors, but also a bit angular, trying to look to cool. It certainly gave the impression of a clean, professionally run café, and it was certainly inviting enough that I wanted to stay and try a savory breakfast crepe and some espresso! Food: Black Forest ham, with somewhat of a "pancake" style crepe batter (rather than the more traditional buckwheat, at one dollar more), with spinach and mozzarella, cooked just right, and served nicely warm. Flavor was good, but my socks stayed on. I noted, in particular, that there was no distinctive Black Forest element to the ham, and I rate that a key miss. My attention was shared equally between the crepe and a doppio espresso. As a world-traveled espresso snob, I would give the shots perhaps a six out of ten points. They were generous in volume (so many cafés these days seem to equate good espresso with microscopic pulls!) but unfortunately that was because they were pulled for too long, with the inevitable result that they tasted a bit watery and thin as well as lacking good crema and body. The underlying roast seemed like it could produce decent results in the right hands, so it's possible results would be better with a different person behind the counter. I noted that the music was great: not just the content (Jack Johnson, Nirvana, etc.) but the volume was perfectly set to the low level that allows a person to think or carry on a conversation without raising one's voice. I also noted that the room was slightly unfriendly for toddlers, as there were glass bottles on shelves at just the right elevation. While I did not sample a sweet crepe, a pair of teenage girls at the table next to me shared the strawberry and vanilla crème offering and it not only looked delicious, the girls were certainly expressing delight. All in all, a reasonably good place to stop in for a bite if one is in Maple Leaf, but not a destination café like Zoka or the (long-gone) Speakeasy Café in Belltown.

Nice people, good location, excellent in-house prepared baked goods and crepes. Coffee is just OK, often weak or slightly burnt tasting.

I know I gave them 5 stars before and I am still a die-hard fan of their crepes but lately I feel uncomfortable coming in here. I know I may not be related to any of the baristas or stop by every day for my morning coffee. But I make an appearance here at least once a week. I end up standing at the check-out for two or three minutes before anyone bothers to greet me. No apologies just "ok what do you want?" Seriously?? When any of the barista's friends walk in, they are all quick to turn and warmly welcome them. I feel pretty unappreciated these days when I walk in. The only reason why I am giving them a 3 star is because the girl who made my crepe yesterday wrote a little note on my crepe box that said "thank you :)" I thought that was sweet but I don't really like the way I feel when I'm here. When I am grabbing something to eat for work, I would rather go and eat it in my car outside then sit and eat it there.

The coffee is good and the crepes are great! I've tried several kind and they are good. The only downside here is I have, at times, not been able to get a table. And a crepe is not something I would get "to go"

I just discovered Javasti place on Labor Day when both of the other brunch options (Sunlight Café and Divine) I was scouting with my parents fell through. We decided to just go for a simple coffee shop since we were getting frustrated with the search and starving. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they served crepes - my dad and I both partook in the savory varieties. I got an egg, bacon and cheddar crepe that was disappointing. I didn't taste (or see, for that matter) any scrambled eggs among the melted cheese and I think they use pre-cooked microwavable bacon. Booooo... I don't eat bacon often at all, so if I have it I want it to be good! My dad happily devoured his spinach crepe however and was pleased enough that he didn't offer me a taste. Next time I go I'd probably lean toward the simpler, sweeter crepes because it is impossible to go wrong with those and I thought that the actual crepe batter would lend itself better to a sweet filling. If not a sweet crepe, I'd have no problem testing out those pastries in the case because those looked damn good! I got a latte and it did the trick for me, though I admit that I am not a connoisseur and am easily swayed by velvety milk foam and crema art (bravo to the barista on the leaf design).
