Good food, low overhead. The food is not bad here. The building and facilities are very run down and off putting. The restroom was like an abandoned truck stop bathroom. I felt dirtier after I left than before I washed my hands in it. The vegetable tempura bento came with way more food than I could possibly eat. Of course there is no better way to eat vegetables than to batter and deep fry them. If the food were the only consideration, I would definitely come back. Unfortunately, I might drive on by if I remember the disgusting restroom.

Try the sushi! Unlike downtown sushi spots that go thin slice, these guys always have rolls and sashimi larger than you'd expect. Great lunch stop with huge servings, teriyaki combos with slices of cantaloupe and watermelon on the side, beautiful presentations and easy free parking outside. The owners are very humble and always friendly.

This is one of the cheapest sushi places to visit in Seattle. It doesn't look like much on the outside and inside but the service is personable and great. Sushi selection: They have a great selection at descent prices. My favorites are the Spicy Crazy Roll and Spider Roll - both less than 20 bucks. Parking: Small parking lot that can fit 16 vehicles. Group: The interior in not descent for a large group but would be comfortable bringing about 6 people. Service: Personable and Friendly. Very respectful. Prices: Probably salmon teriyaki dish in town. And it is pretty good. Atmosphere: Very chill atmosphere with modern music. So, if you're looking for a.low price place- Benton Sushi is a descent place. Remember - it's not extravagant but it will satisfy your sushi craving.

I was mostly disappointed with the food here.. I ordered the Bento A that had salmon, tuna and shrimp sashimi for a great price (now I know why) The tuna was so incredibly disgusting... Chewy, and warmer than I prefer my raw fish. I had to spit it out. The salmon was really fishy tasting, you could tell it wasn't fresh. Yes I know salmon is fish.. But avid sushi goers know what I'm talking about. The chicken breast teriyaki dinner plate was pretty good.. So that was safe, but by then I didn't have much of an appetite. Big Bummer!! :-/

I guess curiosity killed the cat. There are good 3 star restaurants on Yelp and legit bad ones, and it's hard to decipher which one is Meh-yuck, or Meh-it's fine. I drive by here almost every day and am quite flabbergasted by how long they've been open (easily 10-15 years). $6.95 sushi rolls and lunch specials seem to be their longevity magic. Unfortunately, it being inexpensive may be the only perk. On a Saturday evening after the game the parking lot was packed, but only to find it overflow parking from the bar next door. The place was completely empty, except for a person waiting for take-out. We decided upon this scenario I'd get take-out as well. The sushi rolls came out quickly, a combo of spicy tuna and shrimp and a specialty roll. The common factor among all the sushi was the rice. It tasted cold, chewy and refrigerated, so it was gummy and glutinous. I was afraid the deficit of a slow sushi place would be the freshness of the fish- surprisingly, it was the rice that was extremely unappealing. The sushi was around supermarket or 7-11 quality, perhaps less due to QFC having a live sushi man creating rolls with fresh rice. Have you ever made the mistake of getting brown rice sushi from Trader Joes, with the rice being one congealed cold lump? Same things here. To end on positivity , if I may..the service was extremely friendly and the food came out quickly. Just be warned about the gummy, cold rice.

Give Bento Sushi a SECOND CHANCE. I've been living in Ballard a couple years now and I've seen some real improvements at Bento Sushi (got rid of the awful tinfoil in take out, added fried rice and white rice to orders, etc). What keeps me coming back: The serving sizes are real big for the price! Teriyaki plates and sushi. Plus the ingredients all seem very fresh.

16 pcs rolls for $6.95? How can you go wrong? Really great food! Huge portions and fluffy rice. The owner is always there and is very nice. This is fast becoming a go to dinner place for us!

I've read the reviews and we have eaten here from time to time in the last few years. Most reviews are from several years ago, so we tried to be objective, because many have cited rude servers and poor food. Our experience from January 2015 about 4 pm was fairly good- male server was kind and attentive. Husband ordered the beef yakisoba spicy and I ordered a sushi bento. It was clean but we didn't visit the restrooms, so no comment there. The food came in a timely manner. It was well-prepared and large portioned. As foodies, we submit the food was fairly good. The tempura in my bento box was questionable, but the sushi was good/ acceptable and the soba relatively tasty. How do I adequately review? This is the best I could do. Live in the area so wanted to be honest and yet return. Would give more stars if food was stellar.

Best cheap sushi in all of Seattle. Very quick with to-go orders!

Ever since I moved to the Seattle area in January I've been obsessed with Bento! Sushi is one of my favorite foods, but I hardly ever get it because good quality sushi is pretty pricey. Bento offers a 16 piece roll for $7. It sounds too good to be true. After I tried their sushi for the first time I was amazed at the quality for the price. The only other thing I've tried from Bento is their miso soup, which is amazing as well. Their service is spectacular from what I've experienced. I've only had take-out, so I don't know how it is if you dine in. I highly recommend this place if you like good cheap sushi!

Totally straightforward, with a few nice surprises (the caterpillar roll was not only tasty but plated kind of adorably) and with super-friendly service. The vibe is a little on the teriyaki-takeout-joint side of things, but our eat-in meal late in the day was fast and pleasant. I can definitely see dropping in again -- and at these prices it's a no-brainer for an inexpensive lunch treat.

My husband wanted sushi the other night and we decided on Bento Sushi because he could get raw fish and I could get teriyaki. We'd been there once a few years ago and while it wasn't superior, it was okay. Well, this time, it was not okay. My husband ordered two different types of eggs. He popped one of the sushi rolls into his mouth and right away I could tell something was wrong. He looked panic and then nearly vomited. The roe was rancid! I said we should leave, but he thought maybe it was a fluke for that one item. He tasted another type of roe he had ordered and it was FROZEN. Well, that was enough for us. We explained the issue to the waitress who was very apologetic and polite, but she still charged us half price for the inedible meal. We will NEVER go back there again.

The owner of this store is a Japanese man who isn't very comfortable with his English, so that should be taken into account. Mainly his daughter is the one who takes and serves orders. The food here is good for the price, it;s healthy, and there's a lot of it. It is a quiet little corner store for those who don't need to go to a fancy restaurant to eat a good meal.

Ok, I know this isn't the best sushi restaurant, but it is not the worst. It's just cheap, and quiet, which I do like. I had the 16 piece sushi roll lunch special, and also the chicken bowl to give to my boyfriend, and I'm not sure which dish included the miso soup. On to the miso soup; ugh. It did not taste disgusting or anything; just very bland. It did not taste like dashi stock, more like a Top Ramen chicken seasoning packet. It also had very little slices of green onions, and there was no tofu in it! Now, the sushi rolls were okay, the rice seemed to be cooked fine, the only thing is I did not like the Apple sushi; but that was my own fault for ordering it. I did like the Spicy Salmon roll, even though it was not spicy. I only tasted a little of the Chicken Bowl, but it was pretty good; contained lots of chicken pieces, but needed just a tiny bit more flavor. Seating was great, hardly anybody was there at 5pm, except for the moron who loudly talked on his phone as I ate (pet peeve). The server was really sweet, and we even laughed when the tax was added up wrong, making my meal 82 dollars instead of 16!

I visited in seattle from Japan. My family and I we had dinner with sushi and sashimi In this restaurant . They served really fresh and delicious fish than I thought. Especially their service was great! If I can visit in seattle again I ll come back to this restaurant!

Hidden gem. Cheapest, delectable sushi I've found in Seattle thus far. Doesn't look like much on the outside but it's yummy and the gentleman who runs the front of the house is the sweetest!! I would come here often if I lived closer. :)

Customer service is superb! Had Barley Tea, great calm change of pace. Veggie Roll was fresh and flavorful. Ichi Roll satisfied my girl's craving for spicy seafood. The Gyoza was a nice blend of veggies and pork nicely encased in a crispy shell of a wrapper. The Shrimp and Veggie Tempura was a seasonal tasty and hot appetizer choice. Their prices were phenomenal! This was visit #2, will be back.

This place focuses more on bento options than sushi. I wasn't thrilled with their menu when I read it. Sashimi is only offered in an item you can order together. There's no sashimi a la cart. They have a good variety of rolls. I ended up ordering a spicy tuna roll and their sashimi dish (which has tuna and salmon). Their spicy tuna is just tuna with hot sauce on top. The hot sauce is good (it's not just spicy mayo like other places but it's not the really good mixed spicy tuna either). The roll wasn't packed very well and the rice was loose. The sashimi was cut into chunks instead of slices off the fish. It also didn't taste as good as I've had at other places. They served the sashimi with a side of rice. The rice had an interesting topping which I enjoyed. I might give this place a whirl again, might not.

So me and my girl for past three years have driven by this place and finally wanted to try the $6.95 roll they advertise on a big sign out front. Server gives us menus and we sit in any open spot he says. Fifteen minutes and no waters later we notice that there were only...lets say 3 other couples in the place. All had already been eating since we got there. A lady off the street walks in, goes and stands up front and the server starts taking her order with enthusiasm. "wtf", we look at eachother. Ha funny thing, girlfriend is the one that gets pissed right off the bat and is making comments to me about it, and not that quietly. I instantly agreed and joined in. Nothing rude or mean really, just voicing facts about the actual service. Gave them one more minute to make sure they noticed us but we're still ignored. Think we scared them a little lol, I'm filipino she is black. I said "well, lets get the F out of here then love." Walked out. Server had the nerve to say "thank you" in a seemingly sarcastic tone. I wish I could review for the food quality instead but, didn't turn out that way. Instead we went to Oishii slightly down 105th from greenwood, had a great time. Good luck!

I'm not a sushi snob. I eat sushi off conveyor belts. I eat sushi out of plastic packages at chain grocery stores. I no longer eat sushi at Bento Sushi. In addition to the food not being good... the men's bathroom. This bathroom looks like the employee bathroom in some basement dive bar in Chinatown in NYC. It's shocking. Don't go there.

  • Angie L.

Worst sushi ever! I ordered take out and was so disappointed. The rice on the sushi was soggy and over powered the entire roll. I couldn't even find let alone taste the shrimp in the roll. They have a sign on their restaurant for 6.95 roll, now we know why. So if you want soggy rice sushi you've come to the right place.

This place used to be decent for an affordable, mediocre but satisfying bento lunch experience. It's gone downhill. Poorly prepared food, not very clean, bathroom seriously disgusting. Worst Cali roll I've EVER had. The rice was basically classroom paste pressed around the fillings. Terrible. The chicken teriyaki was very flavorful - if you are looking for the flavor of FUEL on your meat. The sauce was congealed. There was, mysteriously, a large hunk of squash tempura as a bonus (?) in the bento - it was thickly coated and greasy. No dipping sauce came with it. The waitress was pleasant enough, and brought us refills on tea without asking. Unfortunately, it was one of those meals where you wish you hadn't eaten it five minutes later (not that we were ill) - you just feel DIRTY. Never returning. Close it down and let's have a drive-thru Starbucks. LOL.

Well I work nearby and have eaten here before, and it's been so so. Today I got the Philly Roll to go, The chief microwaved it witch was kind of strange, but I was starving so I ate it anyway. On my last piece after thinking "this rice is weird and vinegary" the tiny sliver of fish fell out and I ate it my its self OMG!!!! Ewww!!!! I almost barfed. So hot, soft, sweet, and obviously rotten. I will NEVER go back again, keeping my fingers crossed for not getting food poisoning. Even thought its cheap, and in a good location I would highly recommend that you stay far far away from this place.

Amazing location. The prices on there food are wonderful. And looking at the sushi menu, is so interesting the next time i have to come in and eat there sushi. Nothing bad i have to say about this place. Very fast service and friendly staff. Will be a regular at this place. Come check them out all

I wanted to like Bento Sushi because it is so close to where I live and there is ample parking. Three of us went and started with a salmon roll to kick things off. The first bite told us we were in the wrong place. The nori was elastic, the rice was gummy and the roll itself was flavorless. I asked for a side of spicy mayo to get any flavor. We stopped and asked for our check after one roll apiece. The service was fine - they seemed nice enough. Even my 11-year-old said it was just "whatever".

This place has really, really gone down hill. I hadn't been here in awhile, so I thought it would be nice to go to lunch with my mother here. Wrong. When I first walked in you can't help but notice the huge hole in the ceiling thats leaking water onto the floor, completely ruining the carpet and dripping onto customers as they stand there waiting for the hostess to seat you. We ordered and it took 20 minutes to get our drinks, and we had also asked for water which we had never recieved, and waited another 15 before we even got our soup. The waitress forgot to put in our order and since we were short on time after waiting almost an hour now we had our order cancelled. When we went up to pay for what we did get, the waitress rang us for 2 meals we didn't even order, and then had to go through the motions of voiding out the whole ticket, and re-ringing us up. Not to mention that there was a total crack-head screaming at the people working there and demanding her food even though she had been waiting for maybe 5 minutes, then, proceeded to insult my mother and I calling us "spoiled white bit****". You'd think the staff would take control and ask her to leave? No. They just continued to roll their terrible sushi and turn their heads while I was clearly being attacked verbally by someone who clearly doesn't belong in a public restaurant. I will not be returning here again.

Today was my first time eating there. I ordered the $6.95 special - crispy shrimp roll and salmon roll. I also ordered miso soup. The service was okay. I'm not complaining. When I saw the soup, though, I knew something was amiss. Miso soup is supposed to be a little cloudy with cubes of tofu swimming throughout. Their version was muddy looking without any tofu. The taste was okay. The rolls were also okay, nothing special. I'd still go back again.

Do NOT let the decor and restaurant's outside appearance deter you from coming to try this hole in the wall sushi house. The sushi is one of the better ones I've had. We had the volacano and hawaiian poke roll. The food came out in a timely manner. Nice presentation. The rolls were delicious. Rice was NOT soggy or overpowering as some reviews have insinuated. Sushi did not fall apart which has happened more often in even high priced restaurants. Wish there had been thicker slabs of tuna sashimi topped on the rolls, but for a 10 piece roll for 6.95 it was a good deal. I have no complaints other than the decor and rap music playing for the background. If you come here for the ambiance, you're not going to get it. But if you want good fresh sushi then this is the place.

  • Michael I.

Overpriced and bland. No cheaper than any other place, and as a reviewer here said, "surprisingly unflavorful". The waiter forgot to refill either my tea or my water. Skip this place --- it's not worth your money!

  • Brittany K.

This place is ok if you're looking for a quick bite, the menu isn't very extensive and the service is pretty basic with not much warmth or kindness-rather robotic! The tuna tasted a little funny and not that fresh so if you're looking for awesome West Coast sushi this isn't exactly the place to try but it isn't absolutely terrible.

I am simply shocked at the number of intensely negative, borderline spiteful reviews for this restaurant. To be sure, the place is a bit of a dive, that much is obvious before you even get to the front door, so it's hardly fair to criticize it from that angle. For crying out loud, if you find that objectionable then you can kind of turn around and go elsewhere. Sheesh. For my part, I was blown away at the combination of affordability and quality, well prepared food. We ate here for lunch the other day after dropping the car off for repair work at a nearby dealership. I got the spicy chicken teriyaki bento, my companion ordered the pork katsu bento, and we shared a California roll and salmon roll. Both rolls were perfect: rice was fresh, soft, the correct temperature and the fish was absolutely fine. The bentos likewise were A-OK. My companion was very happy with the pork katsu and for my part, I can tell you that the spicy chicken teriyaki was the best I have ever had. Everywhere you go to get this dish, it always tastes the same, but these folks use a different kind of hot sauce that's earthier, just a little on the smokey side. Plus, the chicken was absolutely succulent, as in falling-apart succulent. The one criticism I have was for the piece of tempura that came with the bento. It was a hard squash of some kind and should have been parboiled before being battered and deep fried,as it was a little too raw and hard on the inside. The interior is somewhat cozy, some might find it a bit cramped, but again -- neighborhood dive, this is part of the charm for me. Tables are quite close together, dark walls provide an inviting warmth and any potential claustrophobia is relieved by big windows looking out onto the thoroughfare. I would eat here again any time. A solid three stars.

The food tastes good, but the sushi isn't as good as other places. Service is the worst and the place is dirty. You get what you pay for. I've gone there regularily for lunch and dinner many times. The service SUCKS. Everytime is the same. Plan on being there for atleast an hour. The facilities have gotten worse over the years. It's been through about 3 owners and clearly the new owner isn't as attentive. The bathrooms are nasty, the counters have been sticky more than one occassion and the floor... just don't look. Last time I did and noticed that the carpet is so dirty, stained, old and moldy that the carpet is black. Didn't notice until I was looking at the carpet next to the wall. It was fuschia - the original color. I wanted to purge my meal. After years of going there, I won't be going back. I always went for the price & taste, but if the dining area and floors aren't clean... then what does the kitchen look like??? Nevermind. I don't want to know.

The sushi is great and the prices are fair but the service here is always terrible. You'll wait 10 minutes just to get water and then be told they'll be right with you...which is never true. Call for take-out...and then prepare to wait a while for pick up. Weirdly, they also own Oshan Sushi next to Wingmaster's on 24th which has superior sushi and the best service ever anywhere. It is very strange that they are worlds apart.

I've been eyeballing this place on my drive home for a few years now. We moved away, and lived elsewhere for a while, then moved home and it was still in business. I thought that was a good sign and I would give it a shot. I then read the yelp reviews and was less then impressed, but figured "what the heck... i'll give it a try". Well, I suppose this brings me back to the childhood lessons of learning from other's mistakes. I was SO excited to bring home my 16 pc california roll for only $7! It can't get better then that, can it? YES, it can... because even cheap sushi sucks if it's inedible. I literally ate only ONE piece and was nauseated until I finally threw it up and got it out of my system. It wasn't cold at all, but rather a warm temp, and had an over-the-top fishy, salty taste that normally doesn't come with cali rolls. I did put it in the fridge hoping that maybe, just maybe it would taste better cold... but hours later I haven't been brave enough to try it again. Sadly, I think my meal could have been better if i just brought an avocado and rice with me to Golden Gardens and fished my own seaweed out of the surf. I don't think I'll be going back.

I do not recommend this place anymore. It used to be great. Last night was the last time I will go there. We called in the order 15 minutes ahead, and when we got there we waited another 20 minutes. The teriyaki chicken breasts were under cooked, pre-cooked (tasted left over) and cold. The orders are smaller now too but because it was so bad, who's complaining. The tempura veggies consisted of potato, green bean and squash. No mushroom, no onion, no sweet potato like it used to be. The restaurant looked dirty, and smelled dirty. They now charge .50 for the Miso soup to-go bowls, and probably for all the to-go containers. Did they recently change owners? Restaurant Impossible could pay a visit here. Sorry to say, it's gone way down hill.

The sushi is okay. The service is about as bad as it can get short of the server slapping you. They seem nice enough but totally disinterested and incompetent. I have given them more than one chance, foolish on my part.

  • Nolan H.

The sushi ain't too shabby. Lot's of options and at a very nice pricing point. The bento boxes are pretty uninspired, especially considering that the word Bento is in the name of this establishment. I like to get the Bibimbap hot stone pot meal. It's an assortment of veggies and meat, tossed together in rice and served in a sizzling stone pot. Basically, you finish the cooking process by adding a sweet and spicy sauce and stirring it around. Good stuff and it's only $8. It ain't the best sushi in town, but if you're in the area, it's worth a visit.

I hate this place. It takes forever to get your food. Hell, it takes forever to get a can of soda. My third, and last visit, here was Saturday. The young lady working the dining room was ridiculous. There was someting specific about the child and I that made this lady provide the worst service ever. She never greeted us, or provided water, two things she did with every other customer that came in. When she came to the table to take our order, she just stood there, not looking at us but at her notepad, ready to write our order down. We should've left. But it was so damn cold and windy outside that the next time I went out there was going to be to walk home. After our first order eventually came, we ate it and it was nice. Nothing amazing, but the nagiri was fine. And I do like seeing the child eat tako, maguro and unagi. We wanted more nagiri, and we waited for f**king ever for the lady to come back. She was busy flirting with the three boys who came in but managed to ask if we were ready for our check. I said no, we'd like to order more food. She reluctantly pulled out her notepad and took our 2nd order. See, the child really wanted sushi, as did I, and this was our closet option so we settled. And we paid for it. We paid for it with a lot of time sucked away and to be treated like trash, practically. When we did get the check, it was left on our table as the lady walked briskly by, again never looking at our table, or us for that matter. I didn't want to tip, but the child asked me too. So I left $2. The service was shoddy, and the food is only so-so. Yeah, it's cheap but why bother? Your time and money are worth so much more, as is mine. I won't have any problem remembering that the next time I'm jonesing for sushi.

Somebody call the health inspector!!! The first time I went to this place there were FLIES all over the entrance way. I thought this was a freak occurance. Now, two months later, there are FLIES EVERYWHERE! They just don't care! And if this is what they let the customers see....

I got the Terikayi + Tempura dinner combo and had more food than one person could eat in a whole day. Two giant take out boxes and there was plenty of delicious food for leftover the next day. I really liked the shrimp tempura and the terikayi was pretty tasty. The workers were friendly and they also offer some Korean entrees if that is your thing. I will definitely go back here again.

Went in here with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. Since then I've been back numerous times. Food tasted fresh. I'm a fan of their sushi special and gyoza. Bento box is perfect for splitting between two people and you can pick what you want. Chicken Katsu could be better. Prices are fair. Service is always pleasant and welcoming. Even when after rushing in there one night before close they were very nice about it. Placing a to-go order usually takes about 15-20 minutes so if you're in a hurry, come back when you're not rushed. Casual dining environment. Bathroom is clean. Dining area is clean. Even on a budget I was able to find good things to eat.

NO! just....no. All 4 of us got SICK after partaking of this place. The service was terrible - our first contact was young annoyed waitress, who kept repeating what I said verbatim. Apparently MSG, Tekka and Hand Roll are foreign terms to her. After horrid treatment, we got up and asked to do take-out, as we didn't have the time to be batted about in 85 degree heat and sip from dirty water glasses while flies partied around us. The rude waitress left while we waited an extensive 25+ minutes for food with no other customers....however, the waitress that handed us our food was kind and thanked us. We ATTEMPTED to consume the food within 10 minutes after the Styrofoam order was placed in our hands. No time for spoilage on our parts. We ordered: Kal Bi - BURNT beyond recognition. see pics. The meat was sour, a different shade of tang, less vinegar, more roadkill. We refrained from eating it after we each tasted. Generic chicken noodle + veggies - pretty basic hard to screw up, but it made one of our party fall ill quickly. Albacore Nigiri (@ 3.95 each!) - Each piece had the stringy flossy flesh in it and could NOT be bitten through. Luckily, we then realized it had turned after it came close to the tastebuds and nostrils. That is the lowest of low - handing someone meat that is rancid. See pics. Several fancy-named hand rolls - our friend ordered separately from us, and he advised he was queasy that evening. The only things we all shared from this place were water, fish and rice. Perchance someone forgot to wash their hands, or all the fish had turned. One thing is correct - they give you a plethora of food. However this is not a bonus if it is crap and not edible. And to spend the next day cursing the place as a group of ill patrons was just the rotten cherry on top. Health code violators for sure. They tie the take out bags tight, but save yourself some trips to the loo, and open/inspect your order before you leave, if you insist on eating here. So disgusted, only time on yelp I have ever hoped for -1 star. Will now be VERY sure to spread the gospel that this place is to be avoided like the plague.

It would be no stars if I could. I called in my order at 6:30 and was told 20-25 minutes. Not exactly fast for take out teriyaki. I showed up 20 mins after I ordered then proceeded to wait 40 minutes. I have not even gotten my food and all I want to do is walk out. One hour for the food. Once I got my food home and started eating, and my chicken was undercooked. Yuck!!!! The rest of the meal found the place it probably belonged all the time: the yard waste. This was a waste of time, I want my hour back please. Things I could have done in the time I waited and attempted to eat: Went to the store, bought rice, chicken and teriyaki sauce, returned home, cooked the rice from scratch, marinated and grilled the chicken, enjoyed my home cooked meal. I should have done that from the start. I'm the past I used to eat here often. But the chef owner needs to hire some competent help to cook. Never again! Stay away!

Matt loves this place. He was nice enough to bring me some noodle soup from here once and it was fantastic. I was fighting a cold, and it's hearty broth fed my body back into being healthy. However, when we went into here once because Matt was starving.. I was underwhelmed. It smelled like fish, which always worries me. I tasted a couple of pieces of Matt's platter o sushi, and I just wasn't digging it. My miso soup was mighty fine though. It will do in a pinch, but I will stick with the noodle soup.

My sister and I have eaten here doezens of times, I've also brought friends here and have never had a problem with quality or timing of the food. In fact it's one of my favorite places. Our favorite thing to do is hit the special, 7.95 for 16 pieces. They do have a limited list but our favorites are on there (california, teriyaki chicken, shrimp tempura rolls, and others). We will also mix and match one of the bento box lunches with the sushi rolls, and there is always plenty of food. The bento bowxes by themselves are really good too. Gyozas for an appetizer are perfectly YUMMY. I'd also recomend thier tempura. I find thier food fresh and well prepared. Trust me, I would send it back and honestly refuse to pay for crap. It's also really laid back here as far as atmosphere goes. While we feel attended to fine by our waiter/waitress I don't feel the need to dress up, and that is fine by me. It's intimate as well, so you can bring 5+ and chow down or just a good friend. The staff has always been super friendly with us, and bring our food out ASAP (which means if it's suppose to be hot, it's hot. Cold, really is cold). Clean tables and plenty of parking. I would NOT agree Safeway has better quality, in fact Safeway sushi should make you puke if you have tastebuds worth anything.

I used to live in Ballard and this was my go to place. Even after moving to Queen Anne i chose this teriyaki place first until they changed their teriyaki sauce. Now it's really gross it's a lemon ginger type teriyaki sauce. I wont be back ever again.

I've only been here once so I don't feel like my review will hold as much validity as those who have been more than once and have received the same consistent (good or bad) service. I wasn't super impressed. Sushi is middle-grade, soups are mediocre... the vegetables in them just don't taste fresh. Are they de-thawed from the freezer? They skimp WAY down on meet. While the prices are decent, it is for a reason. If Chicken is first thing listed under an item, wouldn't you think it would be the star of the show? It's not. If I'm in the area again, I don't think I will be going back.

Oooooh how I love Bento Sushi! It is great, it is lovely, it is clean, they have cheap hot sake, they have Dolsot Bi Bim Bap! The teriyaki is good too. The sushi is decent, fresh, but not imaginative. If you are hung over, and you are in need of comfort food, go get some Dolsot Bi Bim Bap, it will cure what ails you. I have never had a bad experience here. They do a brisk take out trade too. The one minus, they are closed on Sunday!

I used to go come here a few years ago. Food and service were great. I decided to come back but my how things have changed. We were seated then forgotten. A solid 20 mins had passed and no one came over to take our order even though there was only 1 other person in the restaurant. What's even more sad...when we left all hungry and annoyed the same lady who seated us and forgot about us said bye to us....completely oblivious that she forgot about us. We will never come back here again.

Meh. I love sushi. And tempura. And sashimi (I will give this up: their sashimi slices are large and usually pretty fresh). And teriyaki (thier teriyaki sauce must be made in house? Last time I had their teriyaki, it was reduced too far so it tasted a little of burnt sugar and was too dark. And my poor little chicken pieces were drowned in it. I couldn't get enough of it off. I didn't finish it, even though I was hungry). A year ago when we used to come here, it was pretty dang good. Now it's just pretty dang expensive for what you get out of the deal. The food quality has gone down, the service has degraded, and they nickel and dime you for every last change to your order. They're nice enough, and the food is fair, but feeling like I am not a customer but a piggybank was a real turn-off. At this rate, I'd rather go to QFC across the street and get the less-fresh fish and make sashimi in the breakroom on my own for a third of the cost and no worries about poor service.

This is the closest and cheap place to get sushi for us, so we're not really too picky. The rolls are pretty decent for their prices. They have some odd fancy-looking rolls, though. We never tried any of those, as we're not a big fan of nonJapanese-inspired fancy rolls. Chirashi bowl is not recommended there as it's pricey but not good! (Go to Musashi for the Chirashi bowl). Basically, if you want cheap decent sushi and you're too lazy to go far for it, this place is it.

It was cheap, and it was fast. FOR A REASON. I went here for the first time today after reviewing their takeout menu (it looked pretty awesome). The service was fine, although the amount of fruit flies flying around was really annoying. The sushi? Seriously. It's better at Safeway. My California roll *barely* had any avocado, the amount of ginger that came with it was ridiculous, and my appetizer came out after my meal. Unfortunately, I won't be back.

  • Katie A.

For sheer value, it's fine. I don't know of anywhere else where you can get 14 pieces (2 rolls) for $6.95 during dinner hours, 6 days a week. It's gotta be 'take out' which is totally fine, since their dining area is nothin' to write home about. The sushi is fine and when I get it to go from here, I stick to the basics like spicy tuna and the California roll. Not bad. Not extraordinary. Just about as cheap as it gets without risking your health, and it'll do ya in a pinch.. Much like the Contour HH..

If you Love Negiri sushi, You will love this place. the chefs are awesome & friendly... the place is small enought to get fast good service. the cuts are very good & fresh & the Asahi is cold. Good pricing too... the only snag is every time I go, it seems they have a new teenage girl serving who forgets the drinks or whatnot. But that's nothing compared to the awesomeness of this place.. Eat there!

4 stars for the chicken breast teriyaki. I LOVE chicken teriyaki, and I'm one who is willing to pay the buck or so extra for white meat nicely trimmed of anything I don't want to be chewing. Passing through Ballard I've been known to call in an order from the car, pick up a to-go teriyaki (Boo likes the salmon teriyaki and several of the sushi rolls) on the way home, and then viola - dinner!

Most of the time, the food and service are A-Plus. Usually, they are SUPER fast and the food is really good. We always get sushi and its never bad. Until TODAY. We order: 1 order of appetizer Shumai 2 mixed greens house salads 1 spicy scallop roll 1 dragon roll 1 combo bento box with chicken teriyaki and fish katsu 1 7-Up We got our shumai after 20 minutes. It was yummy. The couple behind us made the comment, "Well this is definitely not fast food." A while later our sushi came out and my boyfriend had to ask for his 7-Up. I was sad we didn't get our salads before the sushi came out. Our bento box came out and I asked that we cancel the salad. The delicious thing about spicy scallop rolls is that they are always made with a spicy aioli sauce, something like hot sauce mixed with mayo and miso, but today...it was raw scallops and sriracha...A LOT of it. I couldn't eat it. My boyfriend, a lover of all things scallops, did his best, but after two more pieces he couldn't either. We let that roll go. Too bad we can't release them back into the ocean. The dragon roll was pretty standard. Funny thing is that we saw on the wall specials a "Whole Dragon Roll" that was the same thing as the Dragon Roll on the regular menu. Only the "Whole" was $14.95 and the regular $8.95...WTF??? My boyfriend also had to get up and walk over to the menu board that said shumai on it and point to it so the guy could write it on our ticket....WTF?? It was the worst experience we've had in a LONG time...this place use to be our diamond in the rough, now I guess the sparkle is gone and its just rough...we won't be coming here for awhile... (OR THE SHORT VERSION): The staff on Mondays SUCK.

Wow! What happened!? The rice was old and hard and something was really WRONG! Something was rancid like vinegar. Was it the rolls or the soy sauce (I even tried 2 soy sauces)??, I don't know. The counter girl is really nice, but Friday's sushi almost made me sick. I hate to revise my review, but I have to do it. I won't be back.

SO I never really enjoyed sushi until I tried it again here. Now we get take-out twice a month at least. And that's the best part, we get tons of sushi for $30! So it's affordable to have that often! The Spicy Crispy Chicken Roll is awesome, as well as the Shrimp Tempura Roll. Their Salmon and Chicken Teriyaki is delicous too! Go GO GO!! See for yourself

So - realizing we are in Seattle, and our access to fresh fish is abundant, you might actually have to search for a BAD sushi restaurant, but Bento Sushi, displaying its Yelp sticker proudly on the front door, is my kind of sushi place in a city filled with such joints. It's not a bad thing that I only have to walk 7 blocks to get there, either. Affordable, large portions of well-prepared sushi seem to be the trademark of this almost nondescript restaurant, which is the least fancy sushi place I've entered in years. I will say, the bathroom frightened me a bit as every step I took was accompanied by a sticking, slurping, sucking sound as some indescribable gunk on the floor attempted to swallow my shoes. Hmmmm......pail and a mop, perhaps? I quickly forgot my shoes (which had survived the attempted consumption-by-bathroom-floor and were still on my feet) when crunching into their spider roll, however. Good sushi is good sushi; affordable sushi is manna.

It's a good, cheap-esque Japanese place (although I think it's owned and run by Koreans because they have Korean dishes on the menu -- which I also dig). The atmosphere is in between a teriyaki hut and a traditional Japanese restaurant. They have a really long menu: various sushi, sukiyaki, tempera, bento, tonkatsu, bulgogi, bi bim bop, kimchi, yakisoba, udon, etc. Many choices -- I like that. They have an interesting selection of modern sushi (sushi with interesting layers and sauces). They have pictures of them to help you select -- always a plus. I would say that the food is of average quality for Seattle. I like it for the sushi selection, the long traditional menu, its down-to-Earth atmosphere and the Korean choices.

I'm surprised to see the poor ratings for service. My wife and I have eaten here many times (sometimes with our two sons) and we have always quite nice service. We just had dinner here a couple of days ago and this was no exception. Our waitress was quite friendly and our meals came pretty quickly. My wife is a big fan of Tempura. Her dinner very good and was so big that she took almost half of it home. The tempura was fresh and hot and it came with soup, salad (their salad dressing was particularly good), teriyaki beef, rice and a couple of pieces of fruit. For the money we thought it was a terrific value. I had a Bento combination that was a very big meal for the price. I was disappointed with the teriyaki salmon. It was just a little "fishy". Both of the meals were visually appealing. We had a glass of wine and some saki which we thought was pretty inexpensive as well. I agree with some of the other reviewers that their bento boxes are a better choice than the sushi. They seem to have a better selection of rolls than sashimi but we have enjoyed the sushi rolls here in the past. Over all we feel that this is a great place for a quick informal meal.

I used to really love Bento sushi. It's not expensive, the fish was fresh, close to home, fast take out. My go-to take out sushi place. But I'm downgrading my 4 stars to 3, because of the following: - the sashimi smells a little too much like fish. If it's fresh, it should smell like nothing or just slightly sweet - they routinely forget at least one thing from our order - they do not have horenso (spinach salad which I LOVE) I will still probably get my sushi there, because there's not really a better option in Ballard (there's Sam's, but it's too expensive for being just slightly better in quality). So I hope you'll all come eat there when I open a sushi place in my 'hood since we clearly need a good one! Horenso for all!

  • Yelp R.

The (Korean) staff seems friendly but the place has such an overwhelming odor of decades old grease & fishiness (in a bad way) that we could not stay... the smell was not very confidence inspiring. Shouldn't sushi places kind of be clean & odorless? I mean, we're dealing w/ raw fish!?!

when this place first open about ten years ago, this place use to rock Ballard with their amazing sushi, teriyaki, and udon soup, Today its just another bad sushi joint in Ballard with bad service. Even though they kinda give you a big portion.

Don't be scared off by the huge yellow sign on this mobile home looking restaurant from the outside. Don't call it a first date place either, because it will surely brand your name on the restroom walls forever. However, if looking for a super lunch deal and you can appreciate fresh and well prepared sushi. Look no further. I have a sensitive taste for seafood and a need to quiz the wait staff on when and where the fish was caught. They seem to have a general idea of where the good ones came from and who can argue with the prices. Try the firecracker, spider roll and any of the eel.

I've only had their tempura, teriyaki salmon, and a few different sushi rolls but all of it was delicious. Its kind of out of the way but I do love the huge selection of interesting and yummy rolls. The best thing about this place besides the really good food is that is super cheap, and a dinner bento box is way more food then on healthy sized person can eat.

My husband occationally picks up take- out teriyaki for dinner here, on his way home from work. We went here recently and ate in. We had a great meal, the sushi was not the best I have ever had, but pretty good. I really enjoyed the the spicy tuna roll and the Ichi roll. Both very spicy and washed it all down with a Kirin. Cheap, quick, satisfying dinner. Next time I am trying the Monkey brain........Muaaahahhhahhh! Seriously they have a roll called Monkey brain.

I just ate here tonight and was very pleased with the grade of sushi I received. The salmon sake and ikura, and toro was amazing! Blows away all the belt feed joints that attract all the cali rollers. The sushi chef even came out to us to make sure everything was fresh and good and offered us some bluefin too!! Yes the interior of this place isn't fancy, some of the best sushi spots in Japan are not fancy either. The people who complain about this place needs to go back and eat their sushi in Bellevue with silver chopsticks. This place is GOOD!!!

just. effing. gross. Don't get that "16 pieces for 6.95" deal. You wonder why it's so cheap? Because it tastes like Safeway sushi. Even their expensive rolls are flavorless and have a nasty texture. I'm so mad at myself for using up my once-in-a-blue-moon sushi binge here.

Bento Sushi used to be my favorite place for sushi in all of Seattle. Best price point, best selection, wonderful people, and just amazing sushi. However, in 2007 or early 2008 the family that owned Bento Sushi sold the business to another family and it's never been the same. It's the same menu, the same exact restaurant, and even the disgruntled teen-age daughter waitress' are very similar. However, it lacks the love and attention to detail that the older Bento Sushi had. Sadly, at the end of the day the fish selection and sushi preparation is just not as good as it was. The presentation is often acceptable. Previous owners was a true master at the art of sushi. The fish selection can be spotty at best. Never poor but often I leave feeling that I wasted my money. When I used to go to Bento Sushi I knew I was going to blow $40 on an amazing meal that I would dream about for days after. These days I just drive by and remember the good-old days. It's a shame. -H

It's a great choice when you need a quick, cheap sushi fix. They're $6.95 roll special is phenomenal for those of us who love sushi but can't always afford it! Staff is friendly, restaurant is clean and carry out quick and easy.

Only if you're really desperate. I'm not a huge teriyaki aficionado but I've tried a number of places over the years, and this was mediocre at best, very little true teriyaki flavor. Also got yakisoba and it all tasted like cooking oil that hasn't been changed in years, which by the way, permeates the whole place (you know that smell/taste - not a good one - it'll remind you by sticking to your clothes and hair). On the plus side, portions were big, and the staff were pleasant enough, but not enough to bring be back. Too bad CC teriyaki got torched.

Bento Sushi is my go-to teriyaki/cheap sushi place. I usually went for their bento boxes -- enough food for 2 meals. I like their bi bim bop. I am not a huge fan of raw sushi -- my guess is that this isn't the place for true sushi experts. But if you have a craving for some laidback comfort food, that won't break the bank ... this is the place. I think they're closed on Sundays.

WESTEN HOT ROLLS R THE BOMB!!now that I got that off my chest its about to gooo down hill from here :( California rolls=ok Rainbow rolls=ok spider rolls=ok shrimp tempura rolls=ok veg and shrimp tempura=soggy!!but I did do togo so yeah I forgot one more roll but I bet you can guess what I would write. So heres the part that is probably the most important out of this whole review. Every time I have gone to bento sushi it has rocked. I love their roll special, and the food is prepared quickly weather you are dining in or taking it to go. The chicken katsu is my favorite. If you order it to-go they really hook you up with tons of chicken and rice. The chicken also seems like it is pretty good quality. I'm really picky about the meat I get from chinese/teriyaki places. It always looks kindof grey and unidentifiable, but the chicken at bento looks like normal, white chicken breast. It's tasty too!!

Very good sushi and excellent presentation, but good luck getting in and out of there during lunch! There are approximately 12 tables and far less parking for the overflow of customers during he lunch hour. If I get there at 12:10 and place an order to go I can usually get out the door by 12:45. Call in your to-go order! I highly recommend the Seattle roll...apples, cucumber, and carrot! Super tasty.

This is the worst Sushi I have eaten in Seattle! The fish was not fresh! Yakisoba was also no good. Beef was flavored well, but noodles tasted the same as did the couple veggies that were on the plate. The menu seemed to be a mix of Korean and Japanese dishes. This confused me...and I was made no happier or less confused when I tasted what was presented to me. The staff was nice enough...but a bit pushy. We left thinking we might end up sick! We do have standards in Seattle...this place needs to fix something. We do need a Korean BBQ in the neighborhood...please put the fish back in the water...oh yeah...it is way past too late.

I was hesitant to go here at first--- but I'm glad I did! Their food really hits the spot for take out sushi. I ordered teriyaki chicken and a couple of Maki rolls and both were very good. I'll certainly be back!

Bento Sushi is great if you are looking for a lot of good food for cheap. Their bento boxes are great. You get a huge pile of rice, some sort of main entree like teriyaki, salad, and soup. Their sushi isn't bad either. What's even more amazing is that if you go for lunch the prices are cheaper, but you get the same amount of food. So what's not so good about Bento? Well, my only complaints are that sometimes the service lags a little. There were definitely times when I could've used a refill or two. I also remember eating their for lunch one time and remember feeling like the needed to vacuum a little. All in all a great place though.

I used to love bento, it's cheap & delicious, and had great service. Now it doesn't. It's slow. It takes 5 minutes to get water when the waitress only has one other table. I've sat for 15 minutes after finishing my first set of rolls, still waiting for the other. It took ten minutes to get our miso. It's pretty ridiculous.

Bento Sushi rules. It doesn't look like much (i.e. the lurid yellow sign), and good luck getting a parking space, but the sushi is darn tasty and fresh. Bento's interior is also a bit cramped, but it has a great menu, good service, and reasonable prices. Who knew?

Overall, I love Bento Sushi, as the food has always been tasty and affordable, and it's close to home. However, the last time I went there, I was a little disappointed. It was the middle of the week, and early-ish - in other words, not a time that should have been super busy for my order to get as screwed up as it did. I ordered several items, including gyoza, tempura and sushi, among other things. Yes, it was a large order, but not outrageous. When I got there a few minutes after the amount of time I'd been told it would take had passed, i waited as the girls behind the counter kind of frantically tried to put it together. When it was all ready, i had no reason to think anything was amiss, as there were plenty of containers. Upon arriving home, I first discovered two containers of tempura, rather than just one. Both orders had lots of veggies, but only 3 shrimp between them, even though I had asked for a dinner order of shrimp tempura. Then I realized that there was no sushi at all, which is when I called. They had realized their error, and told me to come back for the sushi. I asked them if I should bring the extra tempura back, and they said no, understandably. When I got there, I asked them about the lack of shrimp in the tempura, and they said they gave me an appetizer order not a dinner, and only charged me for that, not the dinner. I explained that I asked for the dinner, and I didn't mind paying, but I really wanted the shrimp (it was for someone else, he asked for shrimp). They kind of argues it, but then agreed to get it for me, as they should have, as I offered to pay. I had to wait several minutes for it to be prepared. They didn't charge me, so all in all, I got everything I ordered and more, but it was pretty inconvenient. This is the first time I've had a problem, hopefully it will be the last, and I can give them more stars, as I would have before!

We ate here weeks and weeks ago but as we were painting today I asked Chris, "Which is your favorite sushi place we've eaten at so far?" and he said Bento. I was kinda surprised but can see where he's coming from. The Monkey Brains was, indeed, an excellent appetizer, and all the sushi was very good. I think we ordered a noodle dish too which was good though not outstanding. The whole place is so low key that every morsel beats your expectations.

My roomate and i come here every friday... love it, however i recommend if you've gone there before to get take out, because otherwise you will be sitting there forever before they realize you've been done. However, sushi's great and i can overlook the slow service post food.

I love the Sushi here. It is very fresh because it is so busy. Ask for the "monkey brains"(not actually monkey brains). It's avocado filled with spicy tuna and then served tempura style. Oh so tasty. It's an invention of one of the chefs there. The spider rolls are fabulous and very cheap. We've stopped eating at other sushi places because the more expensive places aren't as inventive or as fresh.

Updated to bring this place down to 1 star! Erik and I are regular customers to this place and we came in on Friday for our usual take-out order. There were very few orders before mine yet we waited around over a half hour for our food. Didn't bother us too much since we knew we were about to partake in a delicious sushi dinner. They even gave us some free soup for having to wait. Cool, right? I'll tell you what's not cool. It's not cool to go in after I've paid with my debit card and manipulate the transaction to get an even bigger tip. I checked my account today and the transaction from Bento Sushi was $10 more than I had authorized. Good job Bento Sushi for pissing off a regular customer who'll make sure to tell everyone what you did. I can safely say I won't be recommending your establishment anymore to friends and am currently scouting out another place in the neighborhood to grab some delicious take-out sushi on a Friday night. Thanks for ruining such a good thing, bitches!

Good, and cheap the way I like it. My favorite Sushi chef used to be in Des Moines but in the last months disappeared to my disapointment but a few weeks ago we hit this place up for some picnic sushi and there he was! He used to make me some crazy concoctions and can see his influence on the menu. The service was fast (about 15 minutes for a large to go order) and only cost us about 30 bucks to feed 5 people. I agree with Johnny the spicy crazy roll was super tasty!

I was craving sushi, so I thought I would treat myself. I had heard that Bento Sushi was a good value- so I endeavored out. The service was adequate, the portions were decently sized, but that's where the fun ended. I ordered the Chirashi Bowl (which I have eaten at other establishments with relish and gusto). The pieces of "sashimi" were good sized- much too big to eat in one bite, leaving me to tear at them like a weasel. The flavor of the fish was not particularly fresh. The rice wasn't seasoned to perfection... really the entire dish tasted similar to low tide. It was certainly enough to fill me up- and to successfully squelch my sushi craving, but not for the right reasons. The price was not any more affordable than any other sushi restaurant I have frequented. Sorry Bento Sushi, but I will not be returning.

You want good cheap sushi? Well here it is! The combinations here are a bit different from what you'd expect, for example the philly roll has tuna (not salmon), and also carrots and cucumber. But, just go with it and you'll be happy. I also highly recommend the spicy crazy roll.

Just tried this place for the first time, and it was pretty good. Took a while to get the food, but when we did it was fresh, large portions. and fairly cheap.. Its just teriyaki, so of coarse it didn't blow me away, but it did the job.. Im only basing this on what we ate..

A-OK place to grab some sushi! While the food here is quite good and I'd reccommend it to others.... there are two things I wish they had: Butter fish (it's hard to find around here) and delivery service! Their parking lot is right on the corner, making it hard to get in/out of during dinner hours. Otherwise it's a great place! Reasonable customer service, resonable pricing, large variety of sushi to choose from!

Overpriced and bland. No cheaper than any other place, and as a reviewer here said, "surprisingly unflavorful". The waiter forgot to refill either my tea or my water. Skip this place --- it's not worth your money!

NO!

  • Michelle E.

Best cheap sushi in all of Seattle. Very quick with to-go orders!
