We came for brunch on Saturday, it looked pretty packed but we were greeted and seated immediately. Yaaas~ I started off with a cup of pike place chowder which was life changing. Ok maybe a little dramatic but it was really good lol. I had the cafe benedict which was really good. My boyfriend got the gingerbread cakes which unfortunately, were too overwhelming for both he and I. The portion was freaking HUGE and really overwhelming in terms of flavor and size. I mean I guess they were just really big slices of gingerbread pancakes lol. He also ordered a side of sausages which we both really enjoyed. The service was very fast considering how busy they were. But it kinda smelled like mildew inside but also maybe because it was rainy... and by the ocean, Idk, it was my first time there lol. Everything was all good up until we both ended up with an upset stomach... Maybe due to other factors, who knows... Would probably come again for the sausages and the benedict though.

Lackluster breakfast with cold potatoes, and mediocre food. The sausage links are good though.

After me and my husband's favorite breakfast spot closed down (replaced by Marination Makai), we had to find a new place to eat breakfast and enjoy the Alki view and this was the place. It's not right on the water like the other place, but it's on the boulevard and still has an amazing view of Puget Sound. My favorite breakfast dish is the Cafe Benedict, eggs Benedict with crab cakes and a side of scalloped potatoes. Super delicious! And the smoked salmon version is also just as yummy. I was a bit disappointed during my last visit when I decided to order something new and got the smoked salmon omelette. The eggs were overcooked but everything else was good. It's very family friendly and my kids were entertained with crayons and a coloring menu. We will definitely come back for the eggs benedict and beautiful view.

I came here for some brunch on Saturday, the place wasn't to packed. The Place was kind of warm, but luckily I got seated in a room that had open windows. After I was seated i was given the menu right away, but i waited for over 15 minutes before i got any water. I ordered the seafood omelette, it was actually very delicious. Inside it was a bunch of seafood with cheese and things inside, it came with a side of potatoes and a biscuit which were pretty good. The food was great but i felt the service wasn't as good, I had to ask to get my water refilled which I feel i shouldn't have too, and also whenever I needed the waiter I never felt they were around. I still recommend giving this place a shot if you are ever around Alki because the food is delicious.

I really like this place. They have a ton of breakfast and lunch options. It's the only real breakfast place on Alki. The only do breakfast and lunch so they are closed by 3 or 4. And they make an awesome bloody Mary!

It's an OK place. It's great for someone with anxiety because when I go here it's usually never crowded and actually somewhat peaceful compared to the rest of the restaurants down the strip. I got the chop salad!

Living within walking distance, I've been here countless times for breakfast. It remains one of my favorite breakfast places. Pros: The service has always been good. They are friendly, fast, and accommodating. The food is consistently awesome - for breakfast. They have that thick-cut bacon done to perfection! Food prices are very reasonable. One of my breakfast favs is the seafood omelet. No skimping on the seafood - it is packed with the promised ingredients! The view is to die for. Not a bad seat in the house. They replaced the windows and now they open to enjoy a nice breeze. They also improved their outdoor seating areas. Cons: The decor is tired. The carpet is old, worn, and desperately needs replaced. The tables have that pitted, perms-sticky feel that screams "Please refinish me, I'm gross!" I've never been impressed with their dinner menu, so I go elsewhere for lunch/dinner. The food wasn't bad, it was just ...meh. Overall it is still my handy breakfast joint of choice because well ...it's delicious, I get my money's worth, and the view is stellar.

How I heard of this place: Walk along the Alki waterfront, and you're sure to spot the Alki Cafe's bright purple, vibrant signage. Serving breakfast all afternoon? My husband wasn't about to entertain any other idea. Type of cuisine: American and Tex-Mex breakfast favorites, and beach-themed lunch entrees, including fish & chips, salads and chowder, pasta, sandwiches, burgers and more Tex Mex favorites (quesadillas, anyone?). Ambiance: A short walk from the Alki Statue of Liberty, the Alki Cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating options in pale-yellow rooms, walls lined with artwork, or outdoors with vague views of the beach - stop sign and street signage more prominent. Music plays loudly overhead, and only a few patrons throughout the establishment makes it that much more noticeable. What I ordered: In the mood for breakfast, and unable to steer my husband away from it, he selected the Chicken Fried Steak & scrambled Eggs ($10.99), chicken steak topped with country sausage gravy, two eggs; grilled russet Potatoes and buttered whole wheat toast. I chose the Chilaquilis Tex-Mex Scramble ($10.99), eggs, chorizo, beef, green chilies, bell peppers, olives and corn tortilla strips, topped with jack and cheddar cheeses, served with white corn tortillas, sour cream and salsa. Just to be "good" (according to my husband), we started with a side Caesar Salad ($5.99). What I loved: The Caesar - a typical dressing-drenched pile of Romaine lettuce with ample shredded Parmesan and extra-crispy multigrain bread croutons. The potatoes, too, were a salty, savory hit with my tastebuds. Why I loved it: Convenience. Cost: Average to high ($10.99 - $12.99 per entree)

The Aki Cafe was close to where we were staying & so glad we did! I highly recommend the Cafe Benedict...the crab cakes were delicious & the sauce light yet flavorful! My husband's eggs & sausage were cooked to order & good. We will definitely come back again

Went there for the first time, will go back again. Stays busy and service was good. Ordered eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, something new. It was cooked excellent. Eggs were perfect and sauce and salmon tasted great. Especially the price. It was under $13.00 for that plate. For the good breakfast with a beachside view and at an affordable price, it can't be beat.

Let me just say that the only reason why we came here for the first time over the weekend is because we heard this place was dog friendly. Since I had my dog with me, why not give it a shot? Unfortunately, I did not get that impression. Yes, they have pictures of dogs on the wall, but as soon as I stepped foot in that café a woman (not sure if it was the owner) wasted no time confronting me to tell me that dogs aren't allowed inside. She was not even the slightest bit friendly. Okay lady, I get it. I just wanted to get a menu so that we can sit outside. When we found a table outside there was a dog bowl with no water in it. Service was okay, food was good but nothing special (I had the chicken and avocado sandwich). I have no desire to come back for a second try.

What I love about this place is consistency. We've only ever been here for brunch. The food is just good but it's always good and always fast. I recommend the smoked salmon benedict. It's delicious. The service always good too. And you can't beat the view. It's right in the main part of Alki and there's a

Great location and view but the service sucks big time. You might as well light yourself on fire to get a server to come over to you.

This time was a big bomb. Watery omelet with no salt, potatoes over salted and we're obviously deep fried despite being in the menu as grilled. It still has a nice view.

The Alki Café belongs on everyone's solid picks list. I've eaten here countless times. And, while it's often busy on the weekend morning when I stop in, the staff is always really helpful and the wait doesn't seem to be too long. As for the food, it's always solid and the portions are good. As far as the seating goes, I always seem to get in the seating area on the west side of the building and once in a while get a great view. Parking in Alki can be a little tough, but that really only means be prepared to walk a couple blocks, you'll find something.

  • Leta P.

Only OK. Good for convenience when you live down the street. They always seem to have a decent amount of customers everytime I walk by so I guess that tells you they aren't too bad. Service isn't the best here. Food was alright, could have been better. Not sure if I'll be back.

  • Adam J.

I've been to this spot a few times and have always been happy. Service is nothing great but they do have a good menu and the food tastes great. It's nothing super special but for the price, I'll keep it as a good go to.

Great location and a very friendly, accommodating server that helped us have a great brunch with a 1yo in tow. Great place for a date, lunch, or just to look at the water.

I realize this isn't a fancy or foodie spot, but man, has this place tanked! I hadn't been in a few years, and after discovering our favorite bakery in West Seattle was closed we decided to grab a bite here. The service was friendly, and there wasn't a wait this time... at noon-ish on a Saturday. I should have walked out right then or read the other reviews here revealing the sad state of decline. We ordered our food anyway and enjoyed just being in and warm. The coffee was decent to start, so I started to have some hope. Then came our breakfast items - the crab cake benedict is a joke. The hollandaise is no bueno. The muffins kinda rubbery underneath. I grabbed an Alki Cafe salad with a side of bacon (what, you don't have bacon salads for breakfast? They're awesome!) and a glass of orange juice. The salad was actually pretty tasty with the candied walnuts, dried cranberries, mandarin oranges, and bacon added of course. It was however sinfully expensive for what it was - we spent $48 on: crab benedict, alki cafe salad, side of bacon, orange juice, 2 coffees... what?! I'm not usually one to gripe about the price, but in this case I felt like I'd been had. $5 for a glass of orange juice. WTF? Shame on me for not really reading the prices (bad habit I know) I just assumed that we were looking at a thirty-ish tab for decent food in a good location. We didn't even order adult beverages! Best to skip this one, unless they seriously up their food game, this is one for the insanely overpriced list. Sadly, I'd bet heavily on this running it's course relatively soon.

  • S H.

Amazing breakfast!!! Everything was perfect .. Except the glass ketchup jars. Sausage biscuits and gravy are to die for! Sausage patties are thick and perfect. Seasoned potatoes are delicious. Warm syrup for the pancakes :) fresh squeezed orange juice. If they were open past 3 I would go back for lunch today. Unfortunately, I am still full 4 hours after eating the breakfast. A little pricy but worth it!

Stopped in here for lunch the other day. The food was decent. Nothing to write home about but I didn't think it was at all bad. The staff didn't really impress me though. Their knowledge of what they have is a bit lacking. Aside from that, I did enjoy the burger I had. I'd return to the Alki Cafe, but I'd rather try some of the other places down the street.

  • Nick T.

Not great but far better than IHOP. I think I came here with higher expectations but for what you get the prices are a little high and the quality is average.

Really, Alki Cafe does have a couple nice things going for it. The sliced breakfast russet potatoes are extremely good, and there is a view of Puget Sound and its surrounding land masses. I've been here a number of times, and know that there can be quite a wait, especially on the weekend. But today, when I arrived around 1:00pm, there were plenty of open tables and I was greeted and seated promptly. Service from my waitress was perfunctory and a tad indifferent. My order was taken, my food was dropped off and that was about it for service. After I had finished eating and waited a while to see if my check would be brought out, I saw the waitress having a gay old time shooting the breeze with the hostess. Finally, she got around to bringing out the check. I had ordered an Italian Benedict. Like I said above, the sliced russets were excellent, and actually some of the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. They were pleasantly soft and touched with a hint of paprika. The Benedict itself was decent. On two English muffin halves were two overeasy eggs topped with prosciutto ham, covered with a lemony Benedict sauce and asiago cheese. The prosciutto was okay, but didn't have the best flavor. Prices were reasonable. In a nutshell, if you adjust your expectations to the fact that Alki Cafe is a busy diner on the water, and nothing more, you will not be disappointed.

As many people have this question, I wanted to note that although the Alki Cafe is not the Alki Bakery and has no affiliation with them, you CAN buy Alki Bakery cinnamon rolls here! They do carry them.

Just returned from a very disappointing breakfast. Was looking forward to it so much so it wouldn't have been hard to please me. I actually left without eating. I don't use the words "ever" very often, but this was THE WORST BREAKFAST EVER. The rustic potatoes were clearly frozen. Dry, flavorless...paper mache comes to mind both in looks and taste. I ordered the Country Breakfast so the sausage gravy was atop the biscuits. The gravy was cold which is a plus considering that the biscuits were soo hard that I couldn't cut them. No matter what I tried. There was no getting a whole biscuit in my mouth so I can't remark on their flavor. But, I can peg this one. None would be my answer. I ordered a side of the Apple-Cinnamon Sausage Links. They were funky, but not as ghastly as the rest of the meal. At least there were eggs, what could go wrong. Shells. I'm still crunching shells 30 minutes later. I walked out and left a full plate. Worst experience ever. The waitress was really nice.

  • Laura B.

Where to start? Good location means nice view. But meh food and meh service. I was really in the mood for eggs benedict and was saddened by their lack of Hollandaise sauce. They use this swiss-asiago cheese sauce that is less than fantastic. It was a nice Sunday for brunch followed by a walk on the beach but unfortunately the food was less than stellar. Oh, and yes, it is expensive for what it is.

"BEACH"-front Brunch. (4 stars) It's been awhile since i've been to my hometown and definately reflecting back of the great things I had there that i dont necessarily have here in SF. The one great thing was living near Alki Beach years ago and being very close to "the so called beach" that everyone kicked it at and had an amazing view of Seattle's skyline. what a way to spend the morning... delicious brunch, girlfriend talk, beautiful day... - food, yummy - portions, filling - prices, affordable - ambiance, cute (yes... cute) One of my really close girlfriends took me here for brunch one day. I wasn't too sure what to think of this place. I searched for a menu online for the longest to see what's good but didn't have much luck. All I kept hearing from my friend is that "IT'S SO GOOD". Really, well, how good? I REP MY HOOD. therefore i've been to all the eateries on Alki Beach's strip except for here. I've never walked into this cafe as I'm always at the other restaurants. My first impression of the place was its CUTE and "why havent i bothered to come in before?". ITS SO GOOD turned into EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD. My friend ordered Salmon with poached eggs and potatoes. I went safe and ordered a breakfast with pancakes. i love pancakes like no other and their pancakes were stacked and moist and delicious. The brunches were filling. The portions were large! When the bill came the only thing I said was "that's it?!" And that was it. Left satisfied. Good stuff. it was totally a "BBB" day. Brunch, beach, and bestfriends. what a treat! Will I be back? whenever i'm visiting the hometown. Until the next review....

The folks behind the counter were EXTREMELY friendly.... or EXTREME in their friendliness would be a better description. Obviously working for a good tip. I don't mind that so much but when you're the only two people in the place it's a little over powering. We wanted the sandwiches to be better/more flavorful for the price and the works potato salad was the most bland potato salad I've ever experienced - it certainly didn't seem to have any of the flavors of a baked potato with all the fixings... more like a boiled potato put in the refrigerator, cut up, smushed a little, and put in our serving box.

  • Angie S.

This was my first time here. It was apparent the one server there was wanting to go home since it was nearing the end of the night. We were waiting for about 20 minutes (it was not that busy) without even an acknowledgement. When we finally were seated she was not friendly as well as slow. The food was decent but not awesome. I liked the options and the location but that's about it.

  • Gustavo M.

Went for brunch last sunday. I think the quality of the food isn't O.M.G. good, but it's good enough. I had the ham and cheese omelette, which had a little too much, well, ham and cheese. Better too much than not enough, I guess... On the plus side, you do get your money's worth, and leave satisfied--even feeling a little guilty if you do manage to clean your plate (I didn't, but still felt like I had eaten two bites too much). Considering what you would spend at an Ihop or a Dennis, I would say it's about the same price, but the food is better, the place is nicer, and you get a great view of the beach. I don't think there's a bad sit in the house. In fact, it looked to me as if there only were window seats :) The place is rather smallish. I think the largest group size it can accomodate well is 4. I didn't see much space to move tables around. Parking can be tricky.

Alki Cafe is a great brunch spot with a view to die for. I've been here in groups of 2-6, and always seated quickly with great service. (They have little doggie treats at the host stand!) The servers know what they're doing here; drinks come at the right time, they check on you when needed, etc. The menu is great, with anything you could possibly want for breakfast (even though I'm a boring two-eggs with hashbrowns and toast kind of gal). The lunch menu has a lot of options to choose from, with many burgers, sandwiches and salads galore. I do have a food issue to pick at, though, so I hope the chef is reading this: the chicken is really DRY! Last visit, my friend Jessica and I split the smoked chicken salad (with walnuts, feta/blue cheese, sweet dressing) and the chicken avocado sandwich with fries. Maybe it's because the chicken was SMOKED, but it was so dry and tasteless. It really ruined the salad. And why do restaurants insist on putting walnuts in these salads? Is anybody with me in thinking that walnuts taste like tree trunks?? I'd prefer pecans or almonds. The chicken in the sandwich was much better (probably because it was grilled ... ahem) and came with a nice tangy sun dried tomato spread. However the bread was really hard and difficult to eat. Their fries are GREAT though, hot, large and crispy. All in all, smoked chicken aside, Alki Cafe has it goin' on.

Decent service, but abysmal food. Ordered the chiliquiles Tex Mex which tasted awful going down, and the subsequent, unavoidable burps were even worse. Avoid at all costs and stick to a pastry or something from a nearby cafe.

    (1)
  • SweetP G.

This was just okay. Pros: Service was swift and servers nice, very kid-friendly (pro if you like kids I guess), and cute doggie pictures on the wall. Grilled russet potatoes were awesome. And of course, the view. Cons: Food (mostly - see above) wasn't anything special; especially for the price which is on the high end for a diner. (The portions were big however.) The atmosphere was kind of blah too. I probably won't go back.

  • Holly F.

I can't justify a one star rating but it is pretty close. The food was horrible but by the time the waitress finally returned to our table to check on us (20 minutes later) she refused to compensate us because she pointed out that we had eaten parts of it. Well yeah because what else are you supposed to do when you are waiting around for 20 minutes? I tried to eat the edible portions. The eggs didn't seem cooked very long, they should have been over medium but they were more over easy and next to raw. Because of the combination of terribly prepared food and of the even worse excuse for service I'm giving what should be a hoppin place two stars.

    (2)
  • Seattle C.

The service is always efficient and friendly. I hope they will upgrade the menu a bit as the portions are gigantic (ie 4-egg scrambles) and focus more on quality and taste and less on serving size.

Just a basic beach side cafe. An extra star for the view.

Neither of us really knew what to expect based on the range of responses to this place, but by the end of our visit, we both reached a consensus. S ordered the Italian Sausage Scramble and I stuck to the basics, two eggs over medium with potatoes and toast. Their scrambles consist of a bunch of fillings mixed into some eggs and shaped into a little round wheel. The potatoes are described as "grilled russet potatoes" but they look like sliced fried potatoes. They're not bad but nothing notable. In fact, everything was OK, but again, nothing notable. The view is great, no one can argue that. The wait on a busy day is a little long for what you get, about 40 minutes. The service was pretty quick but neither friendly nor unfriendly. Prices were a bit high, too, for this quality of food. $28 for two with coffee. After all was said and done, we both concluded that this was a good compromise on a week day when no one else is serving breakfast any longer but only if you're not expecting to remember your meal later.

Came here on a late Sunday morning for brunch. We had a gorgeous view facing the waters at Alki Beach as nearly every seat in the restaurant was a window seat. We were greeted and seated immediately in the busy restaurant, always a plus in my book. Our waitress was gracious and attentive, making it a very comfortable experience for us but their food was nothing special. We ordered mimosas and the rock crab omelette off their breakfast menu which came with russet potatoes and toast. The eggs in the omelette were not in fluffy layers as expected but rather dry and overcooked. The crab, tomato, and avocado were a bit watery and bland, encased in a rubbery egg casing. I would come back again and try something not on their breakfast menu as I really did enjoy the service and the view.

My best friend missed out on my birthday and decided to make it up to me by taking me out to lunch. For some reason, I was craving to go here. And same goes for everyone else who wanted to be out on Alki on a nice, sunny day. I had been here on numerous occasions and I've never been disappointed with their food. This time around, I decided to order their Beach House wrap, which consisted of turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. My daughter went for the dino chicken nuggets and my BFF went for the avocado sandwich. I was pleased that with the place being so busy by the time we got there, we waited less than 5 minutes to be seated. On top of that, we got a window seat. They were very accommodating to my 2 year old, providing her her kids menu with crayons and plastic cups with lids on her water and chocolate milk. Just a quick note: try to go during non-peak hours and non-peak season. This place can get really packed when the weather is nice and looking for parking can get really frustrating.

Being a Seattle native and breakfast lover, the Alki Cafe does it's job right in the neighborhood that it is in. I can name a few other places of the top of my head within a four mile radius of this place. I like Chelan Cafe and Circa. Chelan Cafe serves your classic diner fare but some dishes are more SYSCO Food Systems than homestyle cooking. Circa, on the other hand, offers a few creative twists on their menu but is a little pricier than it should be. That being said, If you are looking around the area for a great view, friendly service, and a menu extensive enough to please your grandparents as well as picky eaters then Alki Cafe will not disappoint. They don't get incredibly fancy with their menu items and serve a vast array of breakfast and lunch items. If you are looking for a satisfying breakfast or a delicious burger on Alki, I would not hesitate to suggest Alki Cafe. Suggested menu items: -Challah French Toast (Which you can order ala carte for $2.99 for a huge slice.) -Mushroom & Swiss Burger -Fish & Chips -Clam Chowder (Made fresh daily.) -Also, the mimosas are cheap here.

A simple restaurant with good food and good service. I have gone here for breakfast twice and have had a good experience both times. Their Crab Omelette is quite tasty. They have a great view of the water and serve breakfast all day.

I've visited Alki Cafe twice now and can say that they have definitely improved since my last visit. I think they hired new staff and got rid of the duds that were around last time. Had breakfast here the other morning and was very satisfied. The french toast was delicious and is a hefty portion made out of a really great loaf of bread. And I really dig the breakfast potatoes. They're crisp and have a great seasoning on them. My brother had the seafood omelet which he loved. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. And I'd say the prices are fair. Definitely a place I'd return to.

Really gross food. Really dirty server. She was covered in food and dirt like she just got done cleaning behind the oven. I feel sorry for writing this review but - yucky. I had fish tacos that clearly were frozen pre-fried and gross. Bathrooms were also gross. I am amazed that they are in business after that experience. I used to live over here and was looking forward to good eats. Guess not.

food wasn't that great. it's way overpriced. ingredients are not fresh, most of the items seem like they we're bought from costco. But I guess this is what you get for going to a local business. sticky tables, warm bottles of ketchup, and a no-smile service.

You've got to be kidding! This place closes at 3 pm on a busy day! Really? That's crazy obnoxious. The place is in a prime spot and ripe for a huge success. All they have to do is serve good food and be open. How do you fail at that?

This place is pretty mediocre all around. We came this morning for a birthday breakfast. A friend suggested it. We had mimosas, bloody Mary's, Italian Benny, crab cake Benny's, waffle & ice cream and ranchos huevos. The waffle looked a little bit better than eggo waffle. My bf got a scoop of ice cream on top so I think it made it a lot better. Just a waffle no sides. I posted a pic. It looked like a sad bday breakfast :( I had the Italian Benny. It was fine. Definitely not the greatest or worse I'd had. Right in the middle. Their Swiss asiago sauce is different but I enjoyed it. My only complaint was my potatoes. They looked good but ended up being dried and not seasoned much. A little disappointing bc I love hashbrowns or any potato side with breakfast. Oh well. Our friends got the crab cake Benny which they seemed to enjoy but their rancho huevos was just a hot mess. Just a pile of goulash on their place. It didn't look appetizing and they didn't seem to enjoy it much. Service was fine. Just really basic. Greet, orders, serve and checks. Hey it's better than bad service. It is just a cafe but I expected a little more. Especially, since they were aware that their was a bday at our table. I probably won't be coming back. There are too many other great places to eat breakfast but I wouldn't tell people not to come here. It was just a very very basic breakfast experience this morning.

The food was horrible. We stopped in for a quick bite with my wife, kids, brother, brother in law and sister. Suffice it to say the food was very bad, my wife had less kind words to use. She had a Asian chicken salad that had so much dressing on it , it was like a soup with lettuce. We sent it back for another but all they did was add lettuce. My brother got biscuits and gravy. It was horridly salty and the biscuits were so stale tasting we thought they may have been day olds that were reheated. All in all I would never return as the food was extremely poor, the service was good but could never make up for the single reason customers return, the food.

I brought my family here today to celebrate Mother's Day. We called a couple of days before to see about making reservations, and were told that they do not take reservations, but if we called before we arrived the day of, we should be okay. So we called about 9:40am and we were told that it would be about 15-20 minutes for our party of 6. At 10:00am, we were told it would be another 10 minutes. At 10:15am, we were told another 10 minutes. Around 10:30am, a party of 7 walked in, the lady told the hostess she just called about a party of 7. Ten minutes later, this party of 7 was seated, while we were still waiting. We approached the hostess, who told us she didn't have a table for our party of 6, but had a big table for that party of 7. At this time it was already 10:45am, so we had been waiting an hour. Another lady approached and said that we could eat somewhere else if we wanted to. What a way to celebrate Mother's Day right? After complaining to the hostess that didn't know how to tell time, they magically found us a table. The only person that was apologetic to us was our waitress. Sounds like the staff needs a class on customer service as well as telling time.

This cafe is at a great location- on Alki Beach where there's a lot of foot traffic so it will have consistent business but they don't serve to impress nor disappoint. * The Belgian Waffle was good sized, fluffy but ordinary. You can ask for sides for an additional cost (fruits, ice scream, etc). * My Sister got the Chicken Cesar Wrap & enjoyed it. * Soup Cup was kinda small for the price but still good enough for no expectations. Overall, this is just your average local restaurant with A-OK food. Usually a place to choose if you're just in the area already.

Alki Cafe offers a great location and pretty tasty comfort food with good omelettes and french toast, but I stopped eating there after seeing the hostess butter toast with her bare hands on three separate visits. I commented on the first two, but gave up on the third. She handles money, cleans menus, and clears plates, and then holds toast in the palm of her gloveless hand to butter it. Ewww. Pretty sure this is against health regulations, but apparently Alki Cafe doesn't mind, which is why they only get two stars.

Omg. This food isn't fit for consumption. So gross. GROSSS! Stinky shrimp, gross salad, inedible meatloaf sandwich. Grossed OUT!!!! WORST FOOD IN, gosh, ten years. Youd have to be tongue deaf to eat here....seriously. All four of our meals were left behind.

Good sold breakfast, good coffee or espresso, they have both. Above par service, clean place with happy nice servers. Parkings a bitch, but what do you expect on Alki. Summer or winter offer views of the beach.

Three stars for loving my pooch. On the other hand, this place is way too overrated. I've never been to a place where the owners are mean but the employee's are super nice? And what gives with their Turkey/Cran sandwich? It is overwhelming with too much cream cheese to the point of not really knowing if there was any turkey in there to begin with. I've had a better Caesar salad at Wendy's. It does have potential but I'd like to see the employee's take over the joint...that would be rad.

Ok, the stars are for the scene. You go here, on any weather sort of day, and you get a table. If you're three people get yourselves the 6 top and sit all on one side, face the water, order whatever, it isn't a life changing food experience. Wait for you food sipping your mimosa or coffee and watch the ferries sail by. Enjoy your food. That window, and that view, that is worth all the time in the world.

  • Heather S.

Everything on the menu looked great, but sadly, didn't taste much different than something you'd get at a Denny's. Very disappointing, especially for the price. The views are pretty, though.

The dirtiest place I have eaten in a long time! The waitress was covered in stains, the table was a sticky mess and the coffee mug was just plain nasty! Not worth the visit! The food was prepared to the burnt, dry and flavorless palate! Get some real jam, real bread and maybe change the toaster setting from burnt to lightly browned! Couldn't pay me to eat here again!

Great view and service. Food was ok but again the view was amazing. I ordered an eggs and potatoes and it was a little better then what you would get at an Ihop. The service was good. If I pass through again I'll try some other places first. But if you just want to chill some place with a great view and drink coffee this is a great spot

Really great place for breakfast/brunch. Service was truly great - friendly, welcoming, attentive, good recommendations. Never felt rushed, even when the place was busy. The food was really good - large portions, very tasty. Our group had the smoked salmon Benedict, huevos ranchero, and challah french toast. All were well made, and very filling. Not the place if you're fussy about presentation, but the food was quality, and not too pricey (more expensive than a chain, but far better quality food and service.) Will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Good. The waitress didn't bring us the right drinks but the food was decent. I had the fish and chips and they were good, the fish pieces were on the smaller side. Hub had the French dip which was great. He said he wished the bread was bigger but i thought it was perfect. It was one of the better french dips I have had, for sure. The parents both had salad. One had a ceasar with shrimp which she loved and the other had a salad with raspberry vinaigrette which was sweet, but he liked it. She also had the clam chowder which was good, but not as good as some of the other clam chowder she has had around seattle. I would go back for sure.

Location, location, location! I had the pancakes for breakfast, and for 7.99 I'd expect that the syrup be real maple syrup, but I don't think it was. I'm pretty sure it was watered down other-syrup to match the consistency of maple syrup, but my taste-buds weren't fooled. Or if it was real maple syrup it tasted funny. Other than that, good, not great, slightly expensive, but you are here on the beach, and it makes a fine location for a breakfast after a bike ride along the sand.

Today we stopped in at the Alki Cafe for the first time. We've walked past the place a few times since moving to the neighborhood. Always seemed full at breakfast time so we decided to give it a whirl. We showed up about 10am on a Saturday and had no wait for seats. The space is somewhat crowded, but not too bad. It's just a bother when you have people headed out at the same time someone is headed in. I had Ginger Fried Cakes which were pancakes that tasted like gingerbread cookies...with applesauce on top. Yummy! However, the serving was three large pancakes, which ended up being too much for me. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was fairly reasonably priced. All in all, it's a pretty solid place to pick up some breakfast.

Still a fan but EXTREMELY UNHAPPY to hear that they turned away a new-in-town customer that I referred because he was dining alone. HELLO. Not everybody is a couple or group. The hostess told him that they were "too busy" to seat a single person. I'm going to be writing a letter to the management about that and we'll see where my review stands at that point.

  • amber m.

We enjoyed the fish and chips, (better than spuds or starfish) and the avocado chicken sandwich. The smoked salmon sandwich was heavy and dripping with mayo, where the menu claimed there would be a tasteful smear of caper aioli. A curious lack of salmon, too. The iced tea was well regarded, but we left without a real yearning to return. Average service with a view.

Great service. Friendly staff. Lots of doggie pics on the walls. Food is expensive (a $12 omelet) especially if you get stuck at one of the tables in the back with no view - and said view is really the only reason you go to Alki to eat - but good. Silver dollar potatoes were a big hit. You can definitely find a better value elsewhere, but if you find yourself in the area and want something other than fish and chips, this is a safe option.

first time there; went for breakfast; service was very good, so was the food and the portions were very big. Wife had Alki cafe benedict with the potatoes - she liked it and was too much to finish; kids had ham and cheese omelette - ate it all! and pancakes - could not eat it all! I had the chorizo scramble w/the potatoes and like it as well. was not cheap but it was good.

Justice must be served: I don't get what all the other low reviews are about because two visits in, the Alki Cafe is still my favorite West Seattle eatery. Of course if you show up at the busiest times ie. Brunch on a sunny weekend morning, it's going to be packed. Hello Captain Obvious, get a clue. But it's not a restaurant's fault/flaw if they're popular. It's busy because lots of people want to eat there. Surely the sign of a good thing. I've been here for breakfast and lunch, and both were sizable, delicious and reasonably priced. Our waitress -- Kira -- was really friendly and prompt. I heart this place. Lunch: The Fish & Chips for Two was exactly what it said it was, hot and crunchy, and about a thousand times better that the grease-dripping stuff they serve at Spud's. Breakfast: The Garden Omelette was stuffed with yummy and firm veggies: mushrooms, onions, peppers, tomatoes, some other veggies I can't remember and lots of swiss cheese on top. I love the circles of seasoned potatoes they serve with breakfast, too. The biscuit was warm and soft. The buttermilk pancake was huge, fluffy, sweet and as close to perfect as a restaurant pancake comes. Minus one star for fake maple syrup instead of the real stuff, but that's about it. Eating great food with great service at a great price AND getting to look at the beach at the same time? It doesn't get any better.

Everytime I've come here, I've been seated in a reasonable amount of time. The food and service have been good. It's not amazing, but for brunch by the beach, I really can't complain. I've eyed the cinnamon buns but I haven't had them yet.

  • Rick B.

I would not know about their food to write a review. I went in for lunch today at around 12:30. they were of course packed. The couple in front of me were told it was a 15 to 20 minute wait for a table. My turn. "Table for one, please." I was then told they were too busy to seat one person and that I would have to come back after 3 pm. I can understand if they were busy and they put me on the list for a table and I had to wait just like everyone else, but to get turned down for a meal period because I was by myself was a little disappointing.

I really, really, really wanted to like the Alki Cafe. I've given it several chances because of the amazing location, but it keeps on disappointing me! Service is fine, location amazing, food is so bland. It is not a dirt cheap breakfast -- I guess you pay for the view, because the food isn't going to be winning any awards.

I've recently heard that Alki Cafe is under new ownership, I hope this is true because the previous owners (husband and wife team who apparently own another restaurant) are terrible. The wait staff are great (I have my favourites - Becca!) and I've never had an issue being seated when I've gone for breakfast by myself; and often times have sat at a table working for several hours (granted, not on a weekend), so the previous review disappoints me greatly. Granted, you won't find the cheapest brunch in West Seattle here, but the food is pretty decent, and the menu is extensive. The coffee has sucked since they switched to Tully's coffee (from Tony's) some time last year though. They used to have really awesome cinnamon rolls, but the business that made them went under last year as well. Try the apple cinnamon sausage - it's awesome! The cafe owners appear to have a soft spot in their hearts for dogs, as the walls as you enter are adorned with pictures of local dogs, which warms the cockles of my heart. They also keep a dish of dog biscuits for the dogs that wait outside whilst their owners eat. If you go on the weekends, expect a wait around normal brunch times (10 am), although you'll be seated right away if you go when they open (8 am). You'll also receive pretty speedy service on week day mornings, and around lunch time during the off-season. The few times I've been there when neither of the owners are there, I've had a more pleasant experience. 10/29/10: The Cafe has been under new ownership for quite some time now and the new owners are freaking fantastic. This is my go-to brunch stop whether I want to eat by myself, meet friends or get groups of families together for breakfast.

This is one of those places that no matter how hard you try not to, you end up leaving here spending $25 for a mediocre breakfast. The food wasn't anything special, something you could easily whip up at home on a sunday morning. You can't beat the view, you're really right on the beach and sometimes you're willing to pay an extra $10 for that!

Sorry, this place just didn't really do it for me. We had walked around the Duwamish Head on a Sunday and were ready for brunch when we ended up outside Alki Cafe and as they served breakfast until 2pm we decided to give it a shot. Call me a brunch snob but I want some other options than fried stuff with eggs. I ended up going with a smoked salmon sandwich from the lunch menu, which was okay but nothing outstanding either. The wifey thought her crab omelette was okay too. At least they had espresso drinks, but as I had just had a (rather nice) latte from Aimonetto/Pioneer Coffee Co. down the street, I wasn't going to try that. The service was fast and friendly, no complaints there. I feel a tad harsh giving them two stars but a snob's gotta do what a snob's gotta do. Diner fans, feel free to give them more.

Great location, great service, and a comfortable/clean restaurant. I enjoy the experience more than the food. But the food isn't bad. I have only gone here for breakfast and the only real complaint I have is the way they put my omelet together. Instead of cooking the ingredients in with the eggs - They were added afterwords and therefore kept falling out onto the plate as I was attempting to eat it. I found that to be both strange and incredibly annoying. But I will give props for using fresh jalepenos in the omelet instead if pickled. Yum. The prices seem a bit steep to me but probably they are due to the location of the restaurant. It's awesome to walk out and be able to see and smell the ocean after breakfast.

Even with all the warnings I received I still thought that I would give it a shot.. I didn't want to be the person that judged without first trying. I work on Alki and it is always the morning shift.. I heard they offer take out.. My great idea was to call ahead and pick up my food.. that was the only way I was ever going to be able to give it a shot. I walked up to the hostess (I found out she was the manager by asking around) and asked for a menu so I could call ahead while I was at work. She gave me the dirtiest looked and in a very bitchy tone said "I DON'T DO THAT" and walked away from me. No explanation.. she didn't offer to show me a menu so I could get an idea.. Or say that they had one on-line. My response was "Wow, okay. Thanks." I don't get it. I am a big tipper... I work with other people that also want food... you don't have to lose seating to us or clean up after us.. just throw it in a box and we are gone. I will NEVER go back and If anyone asks where the good breakfast is I will direct them up to easy street.

I have eaten at the Alki Cafe for years, because I love breakfast food and my experience eating there has been good. I'm saddened by the degradation of the food. Today I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. Even with the knife I couldn't cut it because it was overcooked on the bottom. The patty itself tasted like rubber smothered by white sauce. The eggs however, were cooked perfectly, over easy and the potatoes were fine. My two friends couldn't finish their meals. Her reuben tasted like thin shoe leather and his salad was barely edible. The muffins were microwaved and everything tasted previously frozen and served. I guess I was expecting freshly cooked food, not prepared, microwaved crap. Now I'm embarrassed for having bragged about the Alki Cafe and how good the food was.

Great location with the views of water and people watching possibilities. The service was fast and courteous. I ordered the Ham & Egg breakfast with Ham Slice. The food was good, but then again how can anybody screw up a ham and egg breakfast? Alki Cafe has a decent menu options. I don't know if I'd come again since you have many other cute beachy locations to choose from. This place is good, but not great.

Alki Cafe is one of the few places that we hit regularly. I only go there for their club sandwich. It's the best I've had (my subjective opinion of course). My g-friend likes to get breakfast. We usually vist around 1pm on weekdays. The lunch crowd has cleared out and there is very good chance to get a window seat on the side of the building. The views are great and you could spend the day watching the locals go about their business. If the place is full (usually weekends), then you might not get the best seat and have to deal with groups of people from other tables that seem to overwhelm the small dinning area to the left of the entrance. Can't say that I've had a bad experience here yet, so 4 stars for now.

3 stars for Breakfast- WHY? Here's Why... We were seated within 10 minutes on a Sunday morning Portion perfect meals that still curbed my donut craving The potatoes are homefries with a light seasoning It was under $10 I liked my poached eggs It is across from the beach The server was clearly in HS and still great Was it amazing? No. Was it good? Yes. THE END

"Yay! I'm a fan" after one visit. The crab cake benedict was the best freaking breakfast I've had a while, and that's after a four-week breakfast jag at pretty much every greasy spoon in the city. There appears to be a lot of avocado on the menu, and that's just fine. The mimosa had a pretty good tipsy:OJ ratio for $4. The potatoes were actually sufficiently seasoned, so I only had to pour one cubic meter of Tobasco on them unlike the three cubic meters I usually need. The wait wasn't too bad on Sunday morning although they do appear to practice "seat the family of four before the party of two even though the party of two got there first." I know it's good yield management; however, I don't hafta like it. The place actually kind of died down and cleared out after I sat down... maybe I needed a shower.

My friend and I went to breakfast (at 1 pm) based on a Yelp review. My friend wanted Denny's, I refused and said I wanted something a bit more tasty :) We went on a Saturday, expected a wait. NONE! And a table overlooking Alki beach? with SUN?! Um excuse me ma'am, what did we do to deserve this? Well I really didn't think this, but I was very pleased. I had the biscuits and gravy with potatoes and eggs. My friend had the Italian eggs benedict. Seriously, we ordered at 1:12 PM and our orders were on our table by 1:21 PM. The food was fresh and the potatoes were round, thin circles with slight seasoning, yum. Biscuits were big and fluffy and the gravy was country style with a good amount of sausage. Eggs were standard, over easy. I will be back. Good food, priced fairly and no wait. They seemed to handle groups of 6 or 7 pretty easily as well.

Sunday morning brunch, a tradition of mine. This cafe was extremely and painfully family friendly. More so than non-familial friendly. showed up with my standard oh-so-adorable brunch date and waited 40 minutes until seated (the waitress told us 20 minutes) irritant #1 #2 watching screaming children groups, yuppie biking groups get seated ahead of us. Way ahead of us. Food could have saved this place - and like a few of the reviews, it is consistently a couple dollars more expensive for all dishes compared to the rest of Seattle. I had the Cafe Benedict (crab cakes with poached eggs served on an english muffin with a swiss-asiago cheese sauce) Crab was real and tasty - crab cakes were done perfectly. Not Maryland style but still, not too bready, flavorful and crumbly. Poached eggs were perfect. Unfortunately, the asiago-swiss cheese sauce was a bit too strong in its flavors and strangled the flavor of the quality crab cake. The date had an omelet (great selection and was well made, however, 4 egg omelets are simply excessively gluttonous in my book) I like tasty, unhealthy food as much as the next person but i cannot finish a 3 egg omelet much less a 4... Alki Cafe, have you ever considered half portions? I didn't even touch my potatoes as I had already eaten too much food and was left feeling miserably full the rest of the day. Generous portions, you will get your monies worth.. but for those of you not concerned about eating a super-sized meal, you can find equitable foods elsewhere in Seattle and much more reasonable portions and priced accordingly.

I am fortunate enough to live in the lovely vicinity of Alki. Someone highly recommended the ginger bread pancakes. So that's what was ordered. A list of problems: 1) The dining room smells quite fishy 2) The pancakes were mediocre. It's possible they came from a boxed cake mix. Definitely nothing special. 3) Presentation: The apples were dumped on the pancakes and resembled a pile of dog Sh--. Typically, I do try to order such things on the side and had forgotten this time. The pile of apple dog Sh-- ruined any chance the pancakes had of actually being good 4) The waitress was most unkind, irritable and non accomodating. Not quite sure what we did, but she did not like us from the onset. (She's the kind that would sneak a spitball in your food, so watch out!) 5) Food prices are quite expensive and the food quality is quite poor. My friend ordered the house special, eggs benedict with crab cakes. She found it disappointing. Once at this place is definitely enough. Usually I'd phone and speak to the manger about this most unpleasant experience but after reading fellow Yelp reviews, it seems hopeless. I didn't want to waste my time as it sounds like the management may contribute to the issues. Alki Cafe - Never again.

Do you like food poisoning? Neither does my friend who suffered miserably at the hand of a crab cake benedict concoction from Alki Cafe. She used to live in Alki Beach and had fond memories of the place, so we strolled in on a Saturday morning. All was well until 24 hours later when she was put through stomach pains that no person should endure. We concluded it had to be her brunch meal because we ate the exact same thing the rest of the day and I was fine. She told me from her miserable plane ride back to Chicago that I needed to post this on Yelp. So here it is - beware.

    1. Any place that advertises their love of dogs, their dog paraphernalia everywhere, and has dog biscuits and a dog water bowl outside their restaurant is A OK with me (see sig). 2. This is a no fuss regular diner, solid good food. 3. The servers/attendants are really friendly, very neighbourhoodsy like (like everything in Alki!) 4. LOT OF FOOD. But tasty!!!! I had the Farmer's Breakfast, and love the fact that they subbed the bacon/sausage for a veggie sausage. NO extra charge. 5. Their mimosas were a bit small, but eh... Good place. Would go there again, if only for the view and service

Wife and I really like this place. It was better a few years ago, but it's still good. The Cinnamon rolls are good, but used to be bigger ( and fresher). Staff is usually good. The waiting area is tiny and uncomfortable when they are busy. Parking can be a nightmare on weekends.

I have three words for you: Crab Cake Benedict. As the LOLcats say, om nom nom nom... I've been going here for years. It's busy busy busy on the weekends, but worth the wait. And try to get a table up front if you can -- the view is lovely.

Location is good.. of course.. it's on Alki. It was pretty packed. The food isn't that great.. typical American breakfast. Food is a little overpriced, especially the orange juice.. haha.. but yeah, I could have gotten something very similar at Denny's. I did find it pretty cool that the place is so dog friendly.

My boyf and I have brunch here at least one weekend a month - we love it! He loves chicken fried steak, and being from Kansas, he is fairly picky about it. After sampling different places around the city offering it, he has decided that Alki Cafe has the best chicken fried steak in Seattle. Impressive. I love the cinnamon roll french toast, challah bread french toast, bacon, and eggs. I also love mimosas. The waitstaff is friendly and the view is beautiful, but the prices are a little steep for a brunch place.

The food at the Alki Cafe is pretty good but the way the owner treats the guests is unacceptable. I know of 4 people who have had a bad experience there. It's too bad, because this could be a great cafe. editing: Why do I say this? The owner is extremely rude to guests. Yelling at guests and making them cry is unacceptable.

We had a great breakfast at the Alki Cafe. We sat outside right across from the water front and a mini Statue of Liberty. I had the Huevos Rancheros, which were great. The waitress was friendly and efficient for our party of 12.

Not a fan. The food was okay but it is way too expensive and takes it's coveted geographic location for granted. Would get more business in the long run if they were reasonably prices and not gouging their customers for fair to mediocre food the first time 'round. I often just want to roll out of bed and eat there just for the convenience but probably never will again. It's just silly.

We strolled into the Alki Cafe for a late brunch (served until 2pm!) and were pleased with our experience. My friend had the garden scramble, fiance had the Yukon omlette and I had a garden burger with chowder -- all were satisfied. We also particularly enjoyed the Yukon potatoes that came with the breakfast entrees. It was also enjoyable sitting at our table in what felt like a giant sunroom, looking across the street to the water. A beautiful location with pretty good food. :)

New favorite breakfast place!! They served me breakfast at 12:30... on a Monday!! My dining companion was tempted by the cinnamon roll ("the size of your plate") but preferred french toast. Problem solved by the cinnamon roll french toast!! Insanity of the truly delicious variety. I had their delightful country breakfast with biscuits, sausage gravy, hashbrowns and eggs. Yum. And the coffee was way better than normal diner/breakfast joint coffee. There were about ten other things on the menu that I wanted to try, so I think it might even be worth braving the line on the weekend. And of course, the view doesn't get much better.

Yummy, yummy, yummy. My sweetie and I needed to break out of our North Seattle rut so we headed over to Alki for a little brekkie and landed at Alki Cafe. Can you say chicken apple sausage?? Yeah, it's a little pricier maybe than most other breakfasts, but we both agreed that it's worth it when you find a place where the food is distinct from all the other generic eggs, bacon toast places. Again, chicken apple sausage. Try it. It might rock your world. Okay, maybe not, but it will make you happy for just a little bit. Plus, it's right on the beach. AND, we were seatted right away on a Sunday. Nice.

Living walking distance to Alki Cafe makes it a regular brunch spot for me on the weekends. The food is always consistence which I like because I know what I'm getting when I go. The wait however is long sometimes but knowing that before I go makes it OK. If you get potatoes with your breakfast ask for a side of their swiss-asiago cheese sauce on the side the two are very tasty together.

After being promised a 15 minute wait for a table and being told "a few more minutes" repeatedly, we were finally seated after an hour. A number of other people around us were experiencing this kind of delay. An apologetic host offered us coffee as we were waiting, and then we were charged for it. I ordered the special written in marker on the board, a veggie benedict. It was served with frozen spinach - not incorporated in anything, just plopped under the eggs. Yes, you read that right. Frozen spinach. At a restaurant. As part of a special menu item. There is absolutely no excuse for this. You can get a bag of fresh spinach at a gas station, for heaven's sake. Please, please, please save yourself the frustration. This place is awful, the service is bad, and the ownership doesn't care (someone referenced that one of the people walking around was the owner, and he was watching all this happen and participating in some of it).

we went on a friday for breakfast, but ended up getting lunch... the service was great and the food was really good (we had the blue burger and the king of clubs), but we were seriously impressed by.... the busboy. seriously. this guy had water to our table just as we were sitting down, and would immediately walk out to a table to clear it and clean it (even wiping down each chair) just as the group of people walked out the door. the place wasn't totally dead either, this guy just liked doing his job well, and, boy howdy, did he. our server was great, too - coffee always filled, very pleasant and accommodating. the prices could be a bit more reasonable, but i feel like it's worth it for the service, good food and awesome view.

Only go if you are willing to pay too much for an abundance of mediocre food. I'm only a visitor to Seattle, but I'm sure there are much better breakfasts in town!

i used to live a few blocks from this place and it was my destination for breakfast after a long run. the pancakes are tasty, the potatoes are decent and the eggs are cooked however you want them. i have had many things on the breakfast menu and nothing was terribly disappointing. it's a great breakfast place, when you don't mind eating a lot of food that might be kind of greasy. the alki cafe has a fabulous view and can get crowded on our nicer seattle days, so be prepared for a wait if it is sunny outside. the menu is a bit over-priced in my opinion, but i wish it was still down the street from me.
