I come here solely for one dish: the wife's favorite pasta. Definitely a unique name for a delicious dish that I think the best on the menu. I always tell myself I should branch out and try other items on the menu but I just can't help ordering the wife's favorite each time since its that good to me. The only downside I see at this restaurant is the wait time. Today I arrived with my friend at 8pm sharp, we ordered food within 5 minutes, and it wasn't until 8:40pm when our food arrived. I think it's worth the wait for the food, but don't come here if you are in a rush!

Took clients here for dinner and as usual it was outstanding! We had copper river salmon, salmon linguini, pork tenderloin, ravioli and all were great. Caesar salad was delish A's was the sages salad. Desert was Tarimusu, chocolate decadence and cheese cake. All were yummy..no crumbs left. We went at 6:30 on Friday and they were so busy. We had made reservations so we were good. But your party has to be for 6 or more. So go early to get in or go around 8 ish and it clears out a bit. Service was fantastic as usual. We have never been disappointed. They have a gluten free menu too! And a nice wine list. Not a good place for children.

I'm not a pro or even an amateur food critic, but I love food and eat a lot of it. Here is what I think of Sages: Atmosphere/ambiance-simple design, an attempt to look refined but with limited resources. An unfortunate street level view of condo construction currently (2015). Family and friend oriented, I wouldn't go here for a romantic evening but fine for a general date. The wait staff I'm sure are friendly but tonight someone may have called out sick as the same person seemed to be helping every table. Additionally he may benefit from better product knowledge specifically an ability to describe specific wines (they have a large wine list). I sense the restaurant is trying to be trying to work towards an upscale dining experience but doesn't yet have the revenue to do so and are stuck in limbo. Atmosphere/ambiance-3 Price-the price was a bit high for the quality of food offered and ambiance/service. Prices reflected a more upscale dining experience which this was not. 2.5 Bread was luke-warm and very dry, not appetizing. The caprese appetizer had well balanced taste and was refreshing. Their signature dish of stuffed chicken was good, veggies cooked well, nice light and sweet marsala sauce. The blend of goat cheese matched with the chicken proved to be both flavourful and filling. Disappointed with the wine pairing suggested by the waiter. The wine and food separately were both quite good, combining them canceled each flavour out rather than enhance. Homemade tiramisu done very well, with mouth watering whipped cream was the winner. The cappuccino had decent taste but was made more like a latte with a little extra foam (too much milk). I'd be interested to see what kind of espresso machine they are using as it tasted too consistent to be a lever espresso machine but I may be wrong. Food- unfortunate issue with the bread which at an Italian restaurant should be a staple. Perhaps it's an off time/day but there needs to be consistency. The rest was well done but not what I'd call "memorable". 3.75/5 Overall- Good food and a bit pricy. The lengthy waits due to understaffing was annoying and hopefully not the norm. Again it wasn't an overall memorable experience but I'd stop in again when in the neighbourhood to try something new. Deserves a 3.5 but the ratings don't allow, and as I'm a jerk and have high expectations I tend to round down and not up. Hopefully I can round up after my next visit. Cheers,

I love Italian and decided I wanted something a bit more upscale so gage Sages a try. Went early on a Saturday and other than an extremely loud bachelorette group loved the look and feel. Service was stellar. Waiter didn't rush us and gave us attention without hovering. He was great when my friend wanted a red pasta made into a garlic/olive oil sauce and even made a good suggestion for another change. Food was overall good with a few minor misses (hence the 3 star). I ordered the pork tenderloin. The pork was really flavorful but dry from being overcooked. Veggies served with it were really good, but it was on a bed of something mashed that was a bit flavorless. My friend's pasta was great and really fresh and flavorful. Overall will give them another chance to try some addition items. Could be a romantic place to go on a date or special event. A bit small, but nicely done.

Sages is one of our favorite places for a nice night out. The food is always consistently good. The waitstaff is kind, helpful, and very professional. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable yet quiet, and fancy without being pretentious. It's a little pricey, but about what you'd expect for the area, and completely reasonable for the quality. Their bruschetta is tasty, and the Bart's Signature Chicken is excellent as well. I usually get the filet mignon just because it's always so tender, and I love the sauce (even though the penny-pincher in me cringes). That said, the other dishes I've gotten there have been excellent as well, so it's hard to go wrong with anything you order (pasta is cooked well - not too soft, not al dente). The Bart's Brownie and the Tiramisu are both fantastic desserts, if you've got room.

OMG! The copper river salmon was so good! Served with some really flavorful mashed potatoes, carrots and broccolini, the fish was perfectly seasoned and perfectly done.

After all the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to eating here, but it truly wasn't anything to write home about, or even to finish. The service was lovely, and the ambiance was fine, but I don't go to restaurants for those things - I go to a museum. We ordered the Greek salad, the cioppino, and the signature chicken. The Greek salad was fine, the cioppino was fine, and the signature chicken was barely edible. The ingredients just didn't taste fresh. The wine was also mediocre and overpriced. In fact, the whole meal was a bill worthy of five stars, which is a pity on a two star meal.

We will not be able to review Chef Bart's cuisine because Chef Bart was out of town (8-28) when we arrived at his restaurant. I had called earlier in the day but no one picked up. I thought they must be busy . They have a small staff....According to the website they were open for dinner. When the 5 of us arrived at 6:30 we found a sign on the door telling us they were on vacation until the 31 of August. Wouldn't it have been excellent customer service if he had at the very least, added a voice message to their business phone warning all of us that we could not eat there ?????????

The KMN dinner club, an assortment of six friends who go out to dinner once a month, dined at Sages Restaurant, in Redmond, Washington on Saturday night, 1/17/15. The restaurant makes reservations only for parties more numerous than five. We were glad to have reservations as it was crowded in the entry and we were seated promptly avoiding the wait. The menu which is on-line offers a generous selection of different dishes. I saw several items of interest, but after imagining the available tastes, I decided not to order an entree but to start with a bowl of clam chowder followed by their ravioli dish. The restaurant was offering a lobster ravioli as a special, but I ordered off the menu and chose a pear and Gorgonzola ravioli topped with candied walnuts because: candied walnuts. You would be right to question my judgment in ordering two dishes prepared in a cream sauce. And while I admit that it could have ended badly, luck was with me and it all ended well. The chowder was prepared with a white broth which was only slightly thickened. Rather than the salty sauce as thick as pancake batter which is all too often confronts a diner, the chowder at Sages was on the light side with a slight flavor of clam juice and fresh herbs. The chowder was loaded with tender clams. The complimentary ciabatta bread was rustic with a hearty crust and went well with both the soup and the pasta. The ravioli was perfect. The pasta was substantial but had lost its chewiness. It was tender without losing consistency. The flavor carried a touch of sweetness which was balanced by the bite of the Gorgonzola. The sauce, in contrast to the soup, was rich and creamy. Every bite was delicious. And did I mention the candied walnuts. My wife ordered the cioppino. I had a sip of her broth and it was rich without overpowering the seafood. Chef Bart, the owner waited on our table. He is a charming host. One of our party needed clarification about the preparation of a menu item and he knew both ingredients and the way it was prepared. He also helped us select a bottle of Italian Pinot Gris for the table. Those who had a glass were pleased. When we get together, we like to talk. We are older and a couple of us wear hearing aids. Noise levels and acoustics can be a problem. There are about twenty tables at Sages. The majority of tables are arranged in one large room. We may have been one of the louder tables, as most guests were seated as couples. We had no problem hearing each other, in part because there was no background music. Music has a tendency to ratchet up the decibels and raise their voices to be heard. We were not prepared to leave before a little sweet. Other's at our table ordered a walnut cake and a brownie a la mode and were very happy with their dessert. I went with a scoop of their coconut and chocolate swirl ice cream with a little decaf and found it a refreshing finish to a wonderful meal. The price of the main dishes ranged between $15.00 and $25.00 which, given the meals, was reasonable. When the table check came there was an added gratuity of 18%. I get stubborn about added gratuity and do not increase the stated amount. On the other had, we have had checks where it was difficult to determine whether a gratuity was added. Chef Bart took the time to make a personal note on each of three credit card invoices that the total included a gratuity. I appreciate the fact that he took the extra effort to make the bill clear to us.

Absolutely amazing dinner tonight for Valentine's Day. Have always wanted to go here and my husband surprised me for Valentine's Day with reservations. This place is by far one of the best restaurants on the Eastside. The service was top notch. Will definitely be back soon. Quaint and very romantic. ..

Went here for our 9th anniversary. We loved the food and service. The tenderloin is amazing. I wish I can figure out how they made the sauce. Yum! It's not cheap but can't complain about the serving. I'm not one to shy away from being called cheap, but this is one fine dining I can go back for. The clam chowder was also nothing like I've ever tasted.

Went there with family. They have a minimum spend per person - not a big fan but I can understand that. However they wanted to apply that even for my 6 year old. We asked if they had a kids menu - and they didn't, so how can you apply a minimum spend for a toddler. the guy checked with the manager but came back they have to apply the minimum on the toddler too. We walked away. Don't care how good or bad the food might be, they need to orient themselves for families with kids.

Simply Devine! I come from italian heritage and the homemade gnocchi here is the second best I've ever had next to the one I had in Italy. The service is absolutely wonderful, our server was very kind and helpful (and funny!) My boyfriend and I recently move to Redmond together and I am very glad that we found a good italian restaurant near by. My new favorite! Would recommend to anyone! Such a cute place too!

Only one visit, but very solid. Had the house salad. Slighly over dressed, but excellent ingredients and balance. Went for lunch and they made Cioppino for me even though it was not on the lunch menu. Great broth, high quality seafood and plenty of it. Wish the seafood included muscles. Services was flawless.

Amazing restaurant. The pastas our group offered were delicious, and the desserts were to die for. Be sure to try the chocolate mousse dessert or the chef's walnut cake. The fool could not have been better, and our waiter Sergi had the delightful aura of traditional Italian waiters- a gentleman to the max and at all times passionate about helping us choose our food. It was almost nostalgic, I wish there were more restaurants and waiters like him! Very cozy restaurant, only a 5 min wait to be seated on a Friday night. The only reason this isn't getting 5 stars is that the food took about 45 min to come out.

A group of us (8) went for lunch. I was impressed with the speedy service for a small place. And very attentive. They filled my water cup w/o having to ask. I often gauge the service quality by whether or not I have to keep asking for more water. Bruschetta was delish - very fresh and flavorful. I ordered the Wife's Favorite - not sure why they call it "pink sauce," but it was tasty regardless. Some in group got the Angel Hair Pasta with Prawns and enjoyed it. We ended our meal with the Sampler: 1. Tiramisu (had better - meh, would probably pass next time); 2. Walnut Cake (yum! tastes so much better than it looks); and 3. Brownie (not really brownie but more like mousse, because it's much lighter than brownie). Coffee - they serve Darte. I recommend this place.

This is a smallish fancy Italian restaurant. Has a nice decor and fairly intimate setting. However, you need a party of 6 or more to get a reservation. Stuff is slightly on the expensive side, which is expected. The service is pretty good. Food took a while, but the waiter checked in on us every now and then, topping off our water. The portions are definitely on the smaller side. The Pear Gorgonzola Ravioli was especially underwhelming in the portion size. But all dishes were delicious. The gnocci was tender and moist. The pear ravioli had a strong rich fruity flavor. They also give you a complimentary basket of bread. Very soft, warm, and delicious. However, if you read the menu carefully, it says every subsequent basket of bread costs $2.

I have been to Sage's many times. They have one of my favorite things in the world to eat; Chicken in Gorgonzola Cream Sauce. Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I have to keep myself from licking the plate when I'm done. I can't eat that kind of thing all the time because I would have a heart attack, but if I could, I totally would. Everything is cooked very well, the vegetables are never overdone. My husband loves Bart's chicken and gets that or the salmon every time. The atmosphere at Sage's is your typical cute little Italian place with tablecloths. Somehow we are usually lucky enough to be waited on by Bart himself, who is absolutely charming! Also, I want to note that we stayed late visiting with some out of town friends one night, not realizing that time had sped by, and the staff continued to smile at us happily, despite the fact that we had unwittingly kept them well past closing time. Redmond is lucky to have such a place.

This is definitely one of the nicest restaurants in town. The owner, Slav, really seems to care about his customers and the food he serves. We have tried the gluten-free menu choices but prefer the regular menu.

This is place feels very fancy as compared to the for the reasonable price of the entrees. The waiter service is among the best I have ever had on the West Coast. I eat here on special occasions and am never disappointed.

Charming and tasty!!! Greeted immediately upon entry, plenty of street parking, well lit by natural light. I really value a restaurant committed to making a few dishes really well and this is one of those restaurants. Not sure if its still true but I read that the owner/executive chef prepares every order! Pros: Intimate, clean dining room, delicious halibut steak special which included perfectly prepared vegetables (al dente), a light grape tomato broth and mashed potatoes. I was very pleased that the dinner sides were not an overthought. Also great to see they had a gluten free menu. Cons: Staff were very polite but once all the tables were occupied it was difficult to get their attention for additional drinks, the check etc. Notes: Didn't require a reservation for a Monday night. Good place to bring work colleagues or a date.

Very happy with my choice to come here (thanks yelp!). Yes this place is small, but that just translates to intimate. I came here on a friday night around 8 with no attempt at making a reservation. We didn't have to wait to be seated, but it was fairly busy so the food did take some time. I didn't mind waiting though because of the great atmosphere, friendly service, and really great Italian food. I highly recommend both the gnocchi and the herb lemon chicken.

Just discovered this gem in downtown Redmond. Having experienced quite a few Italian restaurants over the years (growing up in NY), this place has a terrific ambiance, our waitress was wonderful and the food was first rate. Prices are what you would expect - very reasonable. Can't wait to go back as this is now on our "regular rotation."

Sages has the best Italian food I have had in Washington. This is one of my two favorite restaurants on the Eastside. Chef Bart's food is delicious, his menu creative and quality consistent. The menu is a good size with lots of options and often a daily special. I stop by with my boyfriend at least once a month and have continued to be impressed by the exceptional service we receive from his waitstaff. It's the kind of service you expect from a place with prices double what we pay here. Went again last night as a special treat after a hard work week. The wine list and recommendations as in the past were spot on. My usual has become the Sages homemade gnocchi with basil and Italian sausage in a rose sauce. My boyfriend orders Bart's signature chicken which is stuffed with spinach and goat cheese, topped with sweet marsala mushroom sauce. We have enjoyed the clam chowder, Sages salad and caesar salad as well. So glad there is such a wonderful restaurant in Redmond.

The clams are amazing. Seriously wanted to pick up the plate and finish off every last bit of broth. Well priced delicious food, love the Caesar and need to go back and try some of the other dishes recommended on yelp. Romantic setting too :)

My boyfriend and I went here before Kurios, we got there at about 6pm and we're told we would be seated in a minute, after about 15 minutes we are seated and we order within 5 minutes of sitting down.. 40 minutes later and our food is still not here. Our waitress is ignoring us because she is too busy talking to friends, so we flag down the hostess to ask how much longer (at this point we need to think about getting out of there to make it to cirque with time to look around)... the hostess, who was very nice, gets our waitress to come to our table. We ask how much longer until our food is ready and she tells us about 20 more minutes (seriously?! An hour to get food?!) And we tell her that won't work because we need to get going to cirque. And she (in a very accusatory tone) says "well you should have told me you were going to cirque Du soleil and it doesn't start until 8 so you have plenty of time" ... I'm sorry, 1.) since when do we need to tell the waitress all our plans for the evening to get food in a timely manner?? And 2.) No we don't have time, because leaving the restaurant at 7 (without food) barely gave us enough time to get the pictures done and hit the concessions stand before the show started, neither of which had big lines. I would have tried to go back another time when we didn't have anything else planned, but the waitress was so off putting that I will not bother to go back.

Really great! Awesome food! I had the pork tenderloin and almost licked my plate. I really wished the portions were larger. My girlfriend had the lemon chicken. She loved it. I eat gluten free and the chef was very accommodating. I really suggest trying this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Cute little non-chain European restaurant in downtown Redmond, it's intimate with dim lighting and music, a nice casual date place. The service was superb, our waiter was friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good too, we weren't big fans of the smoked salmon pasta but Bert's signature chicken was very delicious and I would order it again. It looks excellent for groups, there were multiple large parties there having a good time when we dined.

Had dinner at Sages last night with a gal pal. Very nice! Relaxed ambiance, decor is tasteful and understated. Best for me was the friendly, attentive service. Dinner was delicious, and the portions were just right for us. Giving it four stars instead of five because the chef was a bit heavy handed with the salt. Also because if I'd gone with my guy pal instead, he would have been disappointed by the small portions.

Came here last Friday night with my friends (group of 6). We had the shrimp tower and mussels appetizers. Both were very delicious. LOVE the bread and sauce served with the shrimp tower. For my Entree I had the Wife's Favorite which was very nice. I really liked the shitake mushrooms in the dish. Their pink sauce is great! I always order a side of alfredo with my marinara or meat sauce and this was just perfectly creamy. The service was also wonderful. This is a great date night place. Small and classy. Will be back.

I've been working in Redmond for almost 5-years and didn't realize how many great Italians places make there homes here. This place is actually a few blocks away from Tropea, another one of my favorite restaurants to dine on great pasta and other tasty Italian treats. Anyways, this place is great and a must try! Everything is nice a fresh, especially their free bread! It's hot, nice and crispy on the outside and creamy soft on the inside. It's a great way to start your meal and also to help you slurp that extra sauce off your place. If there bread is this good, imagine what their paid entrees are like. Yes, they are awesome! I enjoyed the Homemade Gnocci, Cioppino, and Wife's Favorite. Don't be shy and ask the waiter how you like your meals, extra sauce, extra meat, etc. They go above and beyond to make your lunch or dinner a great experience. I love those places where they don't penny pinch but are passionate about food and watching customers enjoy it. This place defines that category so go try it! Food (x1.2): 5 Service (x1.1): 5 Value & Amenities (x1.0): 4 AK Yelp Score: 5.16! :D + Great free bread! + Fresh food customized to your needs + Excellent, friendly service - No reservations unless you have a party of 6+ Tips: There is no direct parking lot, but either street parking around the place or short walks from other business areas.

I loved this place. Three reasons! A small mom and pop family restaurant business, which I love supporting these types of restaurants. Two, the service was wonderful. Three, the food was precise layers of perfection. Well done to Chef Bart. I applaud you and your staff at Sage. I had the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and spinach off the gluten free part of the menu. It was stellar to say he least. I wanted to keep eating it. My husband loved all of the little touches to his dish and the caprese. Bravo, well done. We will return to dine with much enthusiasm. You deserve many accolades. I hope this rating helps add to that. One of the best dinning experiences I have had in a very long time. Thank you. We intend to spread the word about Sages.

We were looking for a good restaurant to go to for my last night in town visiting family and boy did we find it! My family follows a strict gluten-free diet so it can be a challenge to find a good restaurant that offers a good variety of gluten-free foods. The food was amazing and the service was even better. Our server was excellent with checking in on us regularly and making suggestions on the food. I would highly recommend seeking out this little gem in Redmond if you get the chance. It is a little pricey but worth every penny if you have a special occasion or are looking for an excellent meal.

I need to do an update due to how much we have come to love this place. It's still fairly pricey, so we can't go all the time, but we looove it. We haven't tried alot, but so far the lemon chicken is one of the best things my husband ever ate, and their grilled chicken Caesar salad is my favorite chicken Caesar salad ever. The bruschetta is also quite good, and the brownie a la mode is divine. I have also tried the potato gnocchi which were not my favorite. Even though i think they could do with a little re-design, i have to appreciate how simple, spacious and quiet the restaurant is. We love this place, we only beg them to be open on Mondays as well! I always seem to want their chicken caesar salad on Monday. =o(

My wife and I chose Sages because we wanted a nice quiet Italian restaurant in Redmond, and we're glad we did. The restaurant is on a quiet corner that doesn't seem to see a lot of action on weeknights. When we went in, we were greeted by the friendly staff and quickly seated. We ordered pasta, which was cookd just right and tasted delicious. Apparently, the owner/chef Bart cooks everything himself, and it was a truly great culinary experience. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a classy and quiet night out in Redmond!

Always a fantastic experience- lovely waitstaff, delicious wine recommendations, and the food has yet to disappoint. The gnocchi is fantastic, and it's worth mentioning that there's more than enough for you to take home afterwards. Granted, I usually forget and/or blissfully ignore this fact, ending the night in some sort of gnocchi-induced haze, but ONE of these days I'll learn to ask for a damn to-go box. Possibly.

Simplicity isn't a bad thing, especially when it comes to food, right Zach? A small and cozy space, with a menu to match. Though the menu may be small, the quality isn't lacking. And when the investigation is over for the day, a meal at Sage's is a great way to unwind, right Zach? If there is one dish neither of us can dispute or stray from, it's the Lemon Herb Chicken. 2 nice lean cuts of chicken soaking in lemon, butter, oil and herbs really hit the spot at Sage's. The flavor is full and delicious. The chicken is adorned with potatoes, carrots and string beans that share the lemony essence. I'm always in the mood for more, how about you Zach? I know you're always the same, so we request brushcetta for backup. Not without, of course, some form of dessert. We defer to the brownie a la mode, which is a good finishing touch. It's hard to branch out when the first choices may have been the best ones, right Zach? We may never know at this rate. But let this not be a bad thing. We can count on Sage's for some good food, good service, and a nice cozy table. We'll have to bring Emily some down, eh Zach? The rivalry between you and I is on the escalation, I fear.

We went here after our favorite place, Tropea, was super booked. We got a table right by the door (not my favorite) and were informed by our server that the 'kitchen was behind by an hour'. He also mentioned that the hostess should have mentioned this prior to seating us (she did not). They charge $2 per extra basket of bread (Really? Your kitchen is an hour behind and you can't comp your customers a basket of bread?) The food was decent. My date had the clam linguine which was just okay and I had the evening special which was lobster ravioli. I can actually say that the ravioli wasn't too bad. The cream sauce was flavorful and the ravioli was surprisingly stuffed with a fair amount of lobster. There are occasions where dining needs to be an experience, but this didn't qualify as one of those occasions.

This is a nice little restaurant in my neighborhood, and I find the food to be very good. I've had the linguini Salmon which was excellent, and my wife enjoys the Manilla Clams. The atmosphere is really nice as well, and prices ae not too unreasonable. Most items are approx $13-18, while there are some that are over $20. Nice having such a great Italian place so close by.

We had a great evening at Sages! Everything from the short wait for a table (although there place was completely full), the fresh bread, the delicious food, the excellent service, all the way to the complimentary dessert wine made my hubby's birthday a special treat. We will be back for sure!

Fantastico! Generous service, wine pours, after dinner mints, friendly waitstaff and the owner himself waited on our table, lovely ambiance. We enjoyed over 3 hours conversation with friends. Delicious food with gluten free (GF) options for me. Salud and Gratzi!

If it weren't for the tables and the curtains, I would have thought I was stepping into my dentist's office. The drop ceillings and old, blue carpet didn't scream "rustic italian" to me, but once I saw the menu and smelled the amazing scents from the kitchen, we decided to stay and give it a try. Bruschetta: I don't know what they put in their tomatoes but, hello, it's working for me. Also, the bread was fantastic! Only problem, there wasn't enough, and they charge you $2 for a few extra pieces. Garlic (Angel) Prawns: Ummmm...I didn' t receive any angel hair pasta with my "angel" prawns, so I'm just going to call them garlic prawns, since that's what they were covered in. A bit rubbery, but large and plump and, again, covered in garlic and herbs, so who can complain? The veggies (zucchini, carrots, and peas) were cooked beautifully. Halibut: Chef's special - it was just ok. The fish was cooked very well but the veggies were a little underdone and the potatoes were hard as rocks - all the flavors were there, though. Tiramisu: Big, big disappointment. It was dry, DRY! Oh god, it was depressing. If we come back, we'll come on a Wednesday, when any bottle of wine under $60 is half off. Maybe we'll bring our parents...it was more of an older crowd when we were there (Thursday night ) - 60 and up - and less of a romantic, date spot. Just an FYI for those twenty-somethings!

I think this restaurant is excellent. We've been there a number of times and the food has always been great. The chef makes everything himself and the food is always hot and you know it hasn't been sitting under a heat lamp. The service has always been friendly and prompt. The restaurant itself is small and cozy and clean. Definitely worth a try.

I must have been there the same night as another reviewer Jeff B. as there was also a 12 personwedding party. I had a very different experience in that my whole dining experience took over 2 hours and my waiter did not seem the least bit concerned in how that was effecting our experience. The food over all was very nicely done. We ordered a spicy shrimp apetizer and despite it taking over 45 minutes to come out from the kitchen it was very good. After another 45 minute or so wait our main course finally came out. I had the wife's favorite which had a very tasty pink cream sauce and my girlfriend had the Ciopinno which she said was excellent. After finishing our meal our waiter was no where to be found and we ended up sitting for another 20 minutes before he could be bothered to bring us the check. I may come back again because the food was good but I'll be looking for the waiter that Jeff B. had instead of the one I did.

Sages is a great place with great food and a friendly attentive staff.dinner was very fresh, flavorful and made to order with generous portions at reasonable prices. Don't miss the clam chowder it is out of this world along with the bread it is a meal in itself. This restaurant is just the right size and has a quiet and intimate setting. We loved this place and will definitely be back again. Kudos to the chef as everything was magnificent. This place is real hidden gem in Redmond, a must try.

I *love* this place! It's small, and we've had excellent service from the same waiter for the past few years that we've been coming here. The tomato soup is a must-have. It's delicious, fresh, and slightly creamy. Anything with pink sauce is a winner, in my opinion, and the specials are excellent - we went a couple of weeks ago and I had the copper river salmon special. The salmon was cooked to perfection, served with some surprisingly flavorful veggies (zucchini, carrots) and mashed potatoes. The gnocchi is SO tender and fluffy and wonderful. Wife's favorite chicken is based on the awesome pink sauce as well. Desserts are good, but we don't usually have much room because we're so stuffed from all the tasty entrees. This is why I appreciate that you're given a small after-dinner chocolate mint with the check. Perfect for your sweet tooth when you can't even fit a few bites of an actual dessert in your belly. Great selection of wines, too. There's only street parking nearby, but there's usually plenty.

My favorite Redmond restaurant! Great food, casual elegance, and excellent service. Reasonably priced for the experience you get. I've never heard any complaints from friends that I've suggested Sages as their next dinner destination. You won't be disappointed.

I absolutely LOVE this place. They have super good food. I've only had it take out, and each time, it was without fail, AMAZING. I love the Gorgonzola Pear Ravioli, it's absolutely divine! Also, great to dip their amazing fresh bread in the sauce. I've also had the Lemon Herb Chicken - delish; the Angel Prawns pasta dish - delish; caprese salad - delish, but really it's your standard caprese. As for their desserts, the Bailey's Walnut Cake is SOOOOOOO good. I was with someone who ordered it, otherwise I never would have thought to, and WOW I was so glad they did because I would've continued to miss out on one of the best desserts ever. There are two reasons I'm going to give this place 4 stars instead of 5: 1) I've never had the "dine-in" experience, so I can't give a full review on that front; 2) I do think it can get pricey pretty quick (the pear gorg ravioli and the lemon herb chicken dishes I mentioned above are $17 ish each, and that's on the somewhat cheaper end) However, the flavors wont' disappoint!

I ordered the 'wife's favorite pasta'. It was good and filling, but relative to price, not that great. Service and decor were good, but not something I care about. I'd come here again if a friend insisted, but not voluntarily.

Great food, good ambiance, friendly wait staff. It's a little too expensive for 'everyday' dining, but if you're going out for a nice night with friends/date, it's a great place to start your evening. The chef/owner does all the cooking himself, every night, which means everything is made with love. The brownie dessert is divine. Consistently the best brownie I've ever had - and I try them most everywhere I go!

Bart's signature chicken! I want to scream it from mountain top! The food is amazing and the service is almost other worldly. The people and the owners truly go out of their way to make you feel like your the only people in the restaurant. I have even came into this place pretty dressed down and still was treated as if I was the president! The portions are perfectly sized and the ingredients very fresh. The only down fall for me is that they are so popular that I've came here on a couple different occasions and the restaurant was rented out for a function. Learn to share folks!! I'm starving!!!

A bunch of my friends and I went to Sages yesterday to celebrate two birthdays. I had what I always get the chicken with lemon and herbs. Always a hit for me. Service is friendly and warm. Go to Sages if you have not gone yet. I promise you will love it. A perfect date night or launch with the ladies.

They're okay. The food was pretty good. I had the cioppino; the salmon and clams were perfect, the shrimp was overcooked but still good.. the broth could have used some spice, but overall it was enjoyable and I was thrilled that they gave me some garlic bread to dip into it. My husband had the peppercorn steak and didn't like it. He'd asked for medium and inquired on what their medium was like, so he thought they were on the same page, but they weren't.. I tried it and thought it tasted fine, but I'm not as picky as he is. For these two entrees we came out at about $70. It just doesn't seem worth the price.. Also, someone mentioned the lackluster decor in another post. I think all they have to do is play some nice music, dim the lights and light some candles.. it's an italian place afterall.

Visiting Redmond for a week and this was the first place I ate. After two horrible other places I decided to return to Sages and definitely have not been disappointed. My biggest complaint about this restaurant is that my stomach is not big enough to finish my plate. Will definitely return if I am back in the area.

So... I was looking for a nice (but not really nice) place to have a quiet dinner date the other day and came across Sages. Before you start yelling at me for not taking my dates to really nice restaurants, please refrain. I liked Sages. Short version - solid food at a reasonable price in a nice little atmosphere. We had the shrimp appetizer, yes I'd order that one again. News flash - my date doesn't eat red meat, something I obviously didn't know before (I mean seriously how can there be any future between a gluttonous carnivore like myself and someone like "that"). Anyway, she ordered the pear ravioli and was really pleased with her dish. Personally, I tried a bite and it wasn't for me but again I'm a gluttonous carnivore and if there isn't meat it probably won't do much for me. I ordered the Lemon Chicken which was really good I thought. The chicken was cooked well and the veggies (especially the asparagus) were done really well. The dining room was nice and we were able to carry on a nice conversation, service was pleasant. All in all a good experience.

Went to eat here a few times when they first opened 12 years ago, when we lived nearby, and it was delicious. Decided to return last night when we happened to be in the area at dinner time, and the food was just as good as ever. Everything on the menu looked good, so it was hard to choose. My pork tenderloins in Marsala sauce with apples was superb. My husband had the salmon in a light lemon sauce, also delicious. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than you might expect, but well worth it. The food is all made fresh and tastes like it, and the dishes have the perfect flavor, simple but rich and satisfying at the same time. The atmosphere is nice, intimate and more quiet, as opposed to so many loud and clanging places that seem to be popular now. Loved it, glad we were able to return after so many years. Will definitely have to find myself in my old neighborhood at dinner time more often!

pretty awesome italian food on the eastside! we tried the wive's favorite, as well as 6 other people in our party and it was definitely a winner. my wife and i also shared the seasonal copper river salmon, and that was probably some of the best cooked salmon i've ever had. and the service was excellent!! we'd be back.

Great food, less than ideal service. I've been to this restaurant many times and had wonderful experience with a server who is on their website. Yesterday I was there for lunch with my girlfriend and had one of the worst experience I've had at any restaurant. The server was obviously having a lousy time serving us, got our orders mixed up, won't say a word when bringing the food to the table. At the end of the meal while we were having coffee, she came over to our table 4 times to see if we've paid - she was nowhere to be found when we wanted to place the order! There were numerous empty tables around us and we didn't understand why she'd want to rush us out - at 1pm on a weekday. We realised that we've been treated this way and we were alone, as far as we could see, as she was extremely friendly to an elderly couple next to us, who seemed to be regulars at the restaurant. For their price range, I won't tolerate this level of service. I used to recommend this restaurant to all out of towners but that has come to an end.

It is Valentine's Day and I was hoping for a great memory... Here is what I left with. My Valentine and I have a little routine for Valentine's Day. He picks out the spot and we usually have a great little romantic dinner. Sometimes we spend an hour waiting for a table and enjoy varied menus and spectacular entertainment. Tonight - well lets just say we will never go back! We were both excited to try a place on the east side this year since we live in Bellevue. And the food was decent (6 out of 10). I had the salmon which had a little too much dill - the lemon was good. The potatoes were good and the vegetables were crisp. It is the service that is the problem. We were kicked out and LIED TO by the staff! HOLY COW! Between courses, our orders were shoved in our faces the second a fork was set down! It was shocking! Now, I understand it is Valentines Day and there are probably other reservations. My Valentine and I kept an eye out for folks to walk in the door or tables to fill up but neither happened. We are both sensitive to those in the service industry and want to ensure tables turn and that we do not hold up a table. That said, within fifteen minutes of finishing our rushed desert and paying a bill a female rushed up to us and said "I'm sorry to ask this of you, but we have people waiting for your table. We need you to leave." No - problem, had we been holding up a table, we would leave of course! Did she not know we could see the 1/2 empty restaurant with empty tables throughout the floor? Did she not know we could see the front door with no one in the entrance? Did she not know that she could just ask us to leave without lying? Did she know that many years we wait for up to an hour for people to leave tables and that it is now 7PM and I am home writing about Sage and how I will never go back - because I did not get my mug of after dinner coffee? How rude! Happy V-Day to YOU! This is the first time this has EVER happened to us and hopefully the LAST.

Excellent Italian food in Redmond. Every time I go here and step into the small restaurant decorated for fine dining, I wonder why they aren't busier, and then I note the fact that it's in the suburbs and the scenic view of the state liquor store across the street. Service is generally good and friendly. However, the food is where this place shines; the gnocchi (~$15) in a pink sauce with sweet sausage and some balsamic is excellent; repeatedly I have sworn I will branch out, and I basically end up just trying other people's dishes and deciding to stick with the gnocchi. The spicy shrimp tower appetizer ($12) is another standout, and surprisingly spicy for an Italian restaurant. The dessert sampler (~$6) is a bit of the chocolate decadence, the lemon cheesecake and the tiramisu and is a great way to sample the different desserts. The last time I was here, part of a group of 6 of us ended up being about 45 minutes late for a 7:30pm reservation on a Thursday due to traffic, and they were a bit unhappy with us as we were the only people in the place and they wanted to close. They told us we needed to be out at 9, their stated closing time, which seemed a bit draconian. We did end up staying until 9:15 and they didn't directly say anything at 9, but they clearly wanted us to leave as soon as possible and we felt rushed so this was not the optimal dining experience. Based on this, I would recommend coming in no later than an hour and a half before closing as they seem pretty serious about leaving "on time."

We've had dinner here a handful of times with friends, and it's always a special experience. The waitstaff is very friendly and charming, and the ambiance is just right. It would be a great place for a group of friends, family, or for a date. My husband and I love the Bruschetta appetizer, and the chef is phenomenal. I've had the cioppino and the pork, and they were both of a quality that is hard to find at other restaurants. Also, you can bring in a bottle of wine for a small corkage fee. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Sages is good Italian food- if you are in Redmond looking for some great Ital, come here, do NOT go to Spazzo ( you will cry in your minestrone- and that's just the start) or Frankies (you will cry into your bland pizza). At Sages the food is tasty and the service is pretty good! I kept it simple and ordered the Cesar salad, which was a solid representation with delicious acidic dressing. For an entrée I enjoyed the Mediterranean Pasta which was a solid blend of well seasoned vegetables cooked to perfection and highlighted by scrumptious kalamata olives. The dishes were balanced and satisfying. This food is not going to change your life, but it's yummy and solid with generous portions and well balanced flavors. Good job Sages! We will be back.

Pertinent info: Location: It's in sort of a strip mall. The place doesn't feel very much like a Restaurant, it feels more like a barber shop that's had a kitchen added to the back and some tables and casual decor added. Atmosphere: Music was an unnecessarily conspicuous collection of smooth Jazz. Details: Tea: unspectacular. Butter: Foil wrapped packets, cold. Bread: just on the good side of stale, too cold to melt butter. Prices: Kinda high. If you want some sort of meat dish and you add a soft drink you'll easily be over $30. Even a plate of pasta is going to run into the high teens. Dinner: Man does the chef/proprietor know how to make gnocchi! The texture is dense and chewy but not tough. The sauce was an excellent tomato cream with a surprising sweetness that worked exceptionally well with the just-spicy-enough sausage on it. Fantastic. Service: Excellent. It probably helped that I was the only one there. Summary: A poor end-to-end dining experience, especially with cost factored in. If it were a few dollars cheaper, it might have gotten three stars but there are a lot of better places to eat for the same coin. I can't recommend it. Actually, on second thought the bread may have been intentionally cold. It meant I had plenty left for mopping up that excellent sauce.

Stopped in for a team dinner and everything was wonderful. Service was prompt and friendly, everyone's dishes were both gorgeous and delicious, and the wine list was farily good and reasonably priced. I had the clam chowder, gnocchi, and sorbet for dessert. Everything was well made, fresh tasting, perfectly seasoned and well proportioned. For the care and quality that went into the meal, the price was very good. Had the house chianti too which was quite good and very inexpensive.

The food was excellent. Presentation was very good, flavor was great. Portion size for a high class place was very good. Not those skimpy 2 bites per plate deal at all. We ate off of the gluten free menu. Their clam chowder was very good. The Salmon was cooked just right. Tender and moist. Their signature chicken dish with the marsala sauce was great. The only thing that would have been better, would have been to use dark meat, rather than white meat for the chicken. But other than that, it was a great meal. Price for our meal was on the high class side, but still well worth it. We will definitely be back.

This beautiful restaurant is located directly across the street from my office, and on special occasions I have made my way over to Sages for a delectable lunch, or after work bite and glass of wine. The wait staff is exceptional, always going above and beyond to accommodate my food allergies. The tables are topped with white linnens and the entire restaurant is lit with the glow of candles. Extra fun tips: 1. Sages recently added an entire menu dedicated to glutten free meals. For those who have food allergies, or celiac, you should definitely give Sages a try...it is rare to be able to experience Italian food that is glutten free! 2. Wednesday nights is half priced bottle of wine night! I still haven't tried this amazing deal, but expect to see me there in the next couple of weeks!

One of my favorite 'special' places to go. The style is described as Rustic Italian and it's everything you might expect and more. This is no Olive Garden by the way (and so much better for that!) - the dishes are individual and wonderful. From the 'Best Tomato soup in the world' (their words and who am I to argue) to the shared dessert sampler (I recommend!) and not forgetting the wonderful choice of entrees (my personal favorite is Veal Medalions - not everyone's choice I know but so delicious). The ambience is good too - gentle music playing - attentive but not pushy waiters, and I love that they have a note on the menu asking you to turn off your cellphones! This place works for a casual dinner or something more formal. Ideal for a romantic dinner for two or a big family party. Amazingly, you can turn up and likely get a table without booking (they don't take bookings except for big parties) - that's why this place feels like a best kept secret. It's wonderful food and well worth a trip. I estimate $100 for good dinner for two with wine, but you'll feel it was worth it.

When ordering a Salad at Sages: The Authentic Greek Salad [$8 and quite flavorful] is vastly superior to The Caesar Salad [$7 and thoroughly pedestrian / bland] Also The evening we dined, there was only one harried waiter for approximately 15 diners; thus we waited.... for Tina

I've passed this place a couple times and in it's remote location from the rest of Redmond, finally came in on a Friday night at 7:30 with my gf. It is a very romantic location as soon as we walked in. The reason, there was NO ONE else in the restaurant except for one other couple. Again, 7:30 on a Friday night?? This town does really die at night. The menu choices were nothing intriging, same italian fare. Had the 'wifes favorite' while my gf had the lemon/herb chicken. Both chicken pieces were overcooked, pasta was overdone as well. Seeing other reviews saying it is always empty, begs the question, how are they still open??? My answer would be an underground mafia ring operating in Redmond (probably an offshoot from Microsoft). It would explain the dim lighting, lack of patrons, plus the fact they always had a host at the door despite the fact there no people coming in... at least to eat anyways. P.S. The views expressed in this review are only an opinion and do not have any factual evidence that the mafia operates in a crappy restaurant in Redmond and suggesting that Microsoft is somehow involved is a cheap shot due to their stranglehold of Redmond. Thank You

Went there on New Years Eve with friends, had a wonderful experience. This place is really a gem. I had the cioppino and others had the pork chops, salmon, everything everyone one had was just delicious. Service was great, I don't live in the area anymore, but when I return for visits I will make sure to dine there again.

I've only been here once, so my 5 star may be a little premature. But I'll tell ya, I went here last night, and it was fantastic! The place is quite nice. Good light, furnishings, etc. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. It's moderately expensive; my friend and I had an appetizer and two entrees, no alcohol, and the bill was around $60. Based on the food and service, I didn't think it was excessive. We shared a spice shrimp tower which was just... excellent. Delicious... and not quite like anything I've had before. I had the pork chop which was great; a huge pork chop with this basil sauce stuff with potatos and perfectly prefpared vegetables. I don't want to understate this: that was the most perfectly prepared pork chop I think I have ever had. My friend got the meditaranian pasta which, I'm sad to say, she wasn't thrilled with.. BUT.. I'm not blaming this on the food because right after she ordered, she tells me she doesn't really like pasta. I'm not qualified to judge her meal, because I dislike sun-dried tomato things in general; but I can say that the pasta was cooked just right and her meal LOOKED good. My only negative comment would be that their menu is pretty small. But I'd rather see a small menu done well than an 8 page menu of questionable quality. I would definitely suggest giving this place a try, especially if you live in the area.

The two main waiters are brothers, we think. They are so nice and helpful. The food is always wonderful. Most of our friends say this is also their favorite local spot. If you know you are going there 24+ hours in advance then order the chocolate fondue - they only serve it if you order as they get the fruit that day. You can't go wrong with anything we have ever tried. Wonderful place that continues to earn our local business.

I went here for lunch today. After reading a few of the reviews on yelp, about the restaurant I was excited to give it a try. Straight to the point: Good: Not bad Sausage and Fettuccine Linguine... awfully rich. Very polite and attentive. (of course, we were the only ones in the restaurant) Bad: Parking at lunch sucks. Where is everybody? I was the only one eating here. My recommendation: Go for dinner. Menu for lunch isn't very large and wasn't that impressive. And you might want to consider taking the bus... street parking only.

Wow! Yum! My wife and I went to Sages because we had reservations in redmond but the restaurant was too busy. We happened to see the reviews and figured we would take a chance. Everything was amazing! Exquisitely seasoned, intricately crafted, perfectly cooked. Tower of prawns? Amazing! Bart's signature chicken? Like someone perfected chicken, never had anything better. For desert the brownie and ice cream. The brownie was still warm and the ice cream (two small scoops) perfect for sharing¡! Our amazing kind waiter found out it was a special night and gave us a paired desert wine too. Service was super nice. Fast, consistent, be patient, the owner / chef makes every dish himself.

From the moment our waiter said "butternut squash soup," I was in heaven. The trip skyward started a little bit earlier. I arrived earlier than my date and was seated beside a window overlooking the street. There were only a handful of other folks there (7PM on Thursday), but everyone was thoughtfully placed at least a table away from the next group. Very nice! Did I mention butternut squash soup? It was wonderful. Slightly sweet, warm and so comforting on a cold night. He had filet and they substituted another sauce at his request. I had pork tenderloin. Both were really nicely done. And though I can normally eat like a pig (shut up, Matt), I ended up having to take home half my dinner. Because I had to leave room for dessert. And I was really glad I did! We shared their chocolate decadence with raspberry sauce. Nice tangy and rich sauce, smooth and creamy chocolate. It even came with a candle as I'd told our waiter earlier that it was my date's birthday. Sigh! So dreamy! And the restaurant was great, too!

As my sister was in town from California, we decided to try somewhere new. I remember hearing about Sages when it first opened, but it fell off our radar screen of new restaurants to try. I searched YELP, looking for something new, saw Sages listed as #4 in Redmond and remembered that we always wanted to visit this restaurant. The food is great, the service pretty good. The menu items we chose were: Mediterranean pasta; chicken stuffed with spinach and a marsala sauce and clams linguine. All of us loved our entrees. The Mediterranean pasta is served over penne with artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, olives? and other ingredients I am currently not remembering. The sauce was very good and somewhat similar to a puttanesca but "not a Puttanesca as it doesn't have anchovies" said our waiter. Which lead us to a new respect for our waiter who obviously is well-versed in the variations of Mediterranean/Italian cooking. The clam linguine was perfect with the typical garlic, white wine, parsley sauce. Nothing unusual...however, it did not disappoint. Many clams and well-cooked pasta. However, as is so typical of many restaurants, they don't clean the clams and you end up crunching on the sand left in the shells. Not good. It is so easy to soak the clams to clean out the sand. But perhaps the chef feels this removes the salty, saline taste of the sea from the mollusks. The chicken Bart or Sages??? (can't remember the exact name but was similar to a chicken marsala only it was stuffed and served roulade) was served with green beans and carrots which were perfectly cooked. Salads were good. The caeser dressing was slightly disappointing but still okay. I am not a fan of creamy caeser. When did it become the norm to serve caeser dressings creamy? Thank you 1980's. We liked everything but the decor. We couldn't put our finger on it, but there was something about the decor that missed and this one fact would keep us from returning again and again. The lighting was low, but the fixtures in the ceiling were Lowe's style, $35 kitchen ceiling fixtures. There was nice furniture in places (we were sitting next to an antique buffet style table), but it felt like you were in a restaurant in a strip mall. The walls were a contemporary gold/warm color, but the black ceiling gave it an odd look (my mom said it looked like "the old supper clubs"). The windows look out on the sidewalks, but is not a view you want to look at as the street lights are glaring and the street view is not quaint. It would almost be more interesting to have the outside view blocked off with some window treatment like Mediterranean grill work, curtains, shutters, etc. And I usually like a view. The food is definitely worth the visit though.

Halibut special, yum. Cooked perfectly large portion. Wife had pear ravioli and it was wonderful. Excellent service. Didn't try the wine or desserts this time but we will be back. Winner restaurant in a town with mildly dull eateries.

We have been wanting to expand our repertoire of great restaurants in Redmond and was finally able to go to Sages last night. We were sorely unimpressed. The clam chowder was the only good thing we tried. The famous gnocchi was gooey and the sauce was bland. The food in general was just blah. Nothing impressive. The wine list was simple and underwhelming. The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The atmosphere was awkward and not inviting. Overall I would not go back. There are many other small restaurants in Redmond that offer a more advanced culinary experience for the same price.

The food here is really, really good. Flavors are very well done and everything tastes delicious. The servers are odd individuals, but I'm going there for the food, not the service! A little pricier than I'd want to pay every day, but it's a nice treat. I've always been pleasantly surprised by anything I've ordered.

I consider Sages to be one of the very best restaurants on the Eastside. I've eaten there ever since it opened, but I don't live as close as I once did. I made a recent visit and forgot just how terrific this place is. It's small, perfect for date night. The service is always perfect, the food is always perfect and I just can't say enough good things about the place. This is truly an outstanding stop.

We "discovered" Sages yesterday after driving by many times while running errands in Redmond. Great service and delicious food. The prices were a bit steep but I'm pretty sure we'll go back to try more dishes.

I love Sages. I work in Redmond and I swear this is the ONLY quiet restaurant in the area. Anytime we go to lunch or dinner with coworkers or clients, we always go here. The service is great...everyone i've met has been helpful and patient. Even if we stay savoring our coffee past closing :) Appetizers: We've tried the Caprese and Bruschetta. Both delicious and highly recommended. Salads: I'm a big fan of Greek salads (they always remind me of the summer I spent in Greece). This actually is pretty close to authentic Greek salads. But regardless...it's good! Pastas: I recommend the Pear Gorgonzola Ravioli, Mediterranean Pasta, Wife's Favorite, and the Homeade Gnocchi. All are equally good! Entrees: I don't eat red meat, so i've only had the salmon and the Gorgonzola Chicken. The salmon is a must....it's funny, but if there's anywhere i'm going to go for salmon in all of Seattle, it's here. No one i know does it better. Desserts: I'm usually pretty stuffed by the time i get to desserts, but we have split the sampler before. I need to find an evening to just come here for dessert, because they were all heavenly!

I would give this place a 3 1/2 stars. We wanted to go here from the reviews I read. I ordered the "Wife's favorite" ($14) It is a simple sauteed shitake, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes with a tomato cream sauce over pasta. The first 5 bites were great, but it is one of those dishes you can easily get sick of because of the heaviness from the cream. I thought it was a tiny bit salty--there was nothing else to balance out the flavor. I would of liked something refreshing or crisp on the side. My boyfriend ordered a medium done steak ($28), however it came out very well done. There was no problem to take the steak back, but of course the new one was a little under medium. I guess that is expected... My in-law ordered the night's special ($29): Halibut with a tomato sauce..she seemed satisfied. I also thought the server was overly attentive on the water...I would take 2 sips and there he was refilling again...it got so annoying to a point where all of us purposely wouldn't drink anymore so he wouldn't come by again. shees. Overall, I do prefer this place than the average Italian resturant due to the price. The bread is the best thing here--crunchy outside, and super soft and moist inside. Yum!

My husband and I came her for a date night. On the outside it is very unassuming. You park on the street, and it is located a bit out of the way in Redmond behind the QFC and Staples under some apartments (condos?). Once you walk through the door you will see everything there is to see. It is a relatively small dining room, but we had no issue getting a seat on a Friday night. They do not take reservations unless your group is 6 or more, or it is a holiday. We noticed only one group who had to wait-but I think they were seated in less than 10 minutes. We both decided to have a glass of wine. We both had Sages cabernet for $7 a glass. The pour was very generous-much more generous than other places. We ordered starters, my husband had a cup of the clam chowder and I had the caesar salad. The clam chowder was not as thick or white as many others but still very good. The caesar salad came with freshly shaved parmesan-yum! The dressing on it was not too heavy either. For the main meal we both had the filet mignon which came with asparagus, carrots, and mashed potatoes. I asked for my steak to be medium, and my husband wanted medium rare. Both of our steaks were medium well-with no pink in the steak. The steaks were still very easy to cut and chew, but I think they would have been a bit juicier if they had been cooked to medium rare to medium. On top of the steak was a port and peppercorn sauce. It was a tad sweet, but just enough to give it flavor and not have the need for steak sauce. The vegetables they came with were very crisp. The mashed potatoes were very good, but I wish they gave you a bigger helping! For dessert we had the tiramisu and coffee. The coffee seemed like your average coffee. The tiramisu was very good-not has heavy as some that we've had, but this was nice after eating dinner and starters. Overall for 2 glasses of wine, soup, salad, 2 steaks, 2 coffees, and dessert our dinner came to about $115. Our steaks were $33, but the pastas ranged from $15-$17. We both want to go back and try the pastas, as the sauce for those smelled incredibly good when the waiters were bringing them out. The wait staff was very attentive, checking on how the food was, clearing plates when we were done, and refilling our water. A couple things to note are: your meal comes with a bread basket (ours had 4 pieces in it). The bread was good, but if you want more you're going to pay $2 for another basket. The wait for your food is pretty slow. We got there around 6:20 and didn't leave for about 2 hours. On the menu it warns you the chef makes all of the food so have some patience. Nothing a good dinner companion(s) won't solve! They don't split checks because I don't believe they use a computer for your bill (we saw a calculator on the desk that it looked like they were figuring the bills out with). They do accept credit card though. The dress here seemed pretty casual, but the place was definitely a good place to go on a date or have a nice night out with friends.

Been here about 4 times so far for dinner. Been wanting to try it for lunch. Excellent place to take the parents to dinner. I wouldn't take any young children as the environment is not quite suited for them. It is small and doesn't get too loud, which is a good thing for conversation. Nicely presented food with good flavor. I love their angel prawns. yum.

For me, Sages is one of those places that never loses its lure. There is something curious about it that I can't quite place. The unpredictable hours, invariable lack of patrons, mysteriously dim lighting ... as soon as you step inside you forget you're in Redmond. For its location it is surprisingly romantic, probably due to the aforementioned lighting. On a more practical note, the Wife's Favorite pasta is naughty and delicious but the caprese is so-so. The waitstaff are ghosts; you never notice them but somehow always have what you need. Ultimately this place is a twilight zone, a delightful time suck, and a welcomed escape. Try it out.

Walking in: A proper entry hall, short but defined, ends with a greeter who escorts you to a table. The room is nicely lit during lunch, with lots of windows. At night, the lighting is the perfect balance between moody and bright enough to see what you're eating. Depending on your seating location, you may experience the direct headlights of cars in the elevated parking area for the liquor store across the street. Sages needs more window treatments I think. Its easy to overlook the commercial office space feel of the room, but you feel it there. Service: Having been here a few times, I find I'm always very impressed with how professional the wait staff is. They are attentive without being intrusive, they are patient with orders, they are always nicely dressed...a real plus when compared to some other places. Food: I'm not sure how to describe the food. First of all, I'm a huge fan of good presentation. Even food from Denny's can be made better if it is plated in an artistic and elegant way. This food is not Denny's of course...the flavor of the meats and sauces are always so wonderful. They melt in your mouth. They always seem to have just the right balance of flavoring and texture. Now...combine that wonderful food with the plating of a true artist...amazing. Cost: Whenever the bill arrives I always find myself surprised. I expect that the meal and the overall experience I've just had will require me to sign over my first born, but in fact, its no more expensive than eating at Red Robin. I love it! Overall: Have you ever watched Iron Chef (the original or American version) and watched them create these amazing dishes on the fly (not from a recipe)? They could be made from some ingredients that you think you'd never want to eat, and yet, when they are on the plate at the end of the show you almost wish you could reach into the screen to sample some of the dishes. This level of cooking mastery and artistry is available to you and its in downtown Redmond. If only I could give more than 5 stars.

Hubby and I went for lunch a few months ago. Their Caesar salad is the most scrumptious I've had on the East Side. The lemon herb chicken was moist and plastered with fresh herbs, Yum! The only thing off was the bread, but that is true for a lot of places. Cold bread.... just nuke it for 5 seconds.. it might fool me.

Yelp ROCKS! This is the first restaurant I've tried purely on the strength of its Yelp reviews, and we really enjoyed it. 1/19/2007 The Agony and The Ecstasy (update). We've eaten a number of times at Sages since we discovered it and we've never been sorry. Friday night was no exception... almost. The two specials of the evening were the once-a-year roasted lamb shank, and the twice-a-year meat lasagna; John hates lamb and I love it, so you can see where we went with this. The lamb was unbelievable. It was bliss. I begged that they make it more than once a year. I formally sent my compliments to the chef via our waiter, who was clearly happy that I was so pleased.... it was that good. Seriously. Tomato- and carrot-based sauce, giant he-man shank of lamb on the bone which was perfectly moist and tender, and lovely mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables allowed them to plate a blockbuster meal. Meat lasagna is my other favorite food on the planet, and John got it, and it was a boring slab of too-sweet sauce, nice cheese layers, and undistinguished noodles. I couldn't believe it was coming from the Sages kitchen, it was THAT ho-hum. If I didn't know what an insult it would be to the chef, I'd even quietly wonder if it was a Sysco frozen fill-in, but everything else we've had there has been so amazing that it just seems really weird. Thank goodness that John had started with the excellent homemade sausage-lentil soup so that he wasn't starving. Service was excellent as always; only the hostess has changed in seven months, and I have to admit, I like it that way. The room is still boring and still in need of sheer curtains at the windows; at this time of year, they are needed to cut the glare of the headlights parking at the liquor store across the street. But Sages is still one of our favorite places; we can forgive a single dud entree, especially one that's not on the menu all the time. 6/11/2006 (original review entry) John ordered the tomato soup which was clearly homemade and lovely, though it made me kinda nuts -- it had enough butter in it that all it wanted was some curry powder and maybe some coriander to become chicken tikka masala sauce... one of my absolute favorite foods. For entrees, John got the chicken ravioli, which was good but not incredible. I ordered the pork tenderloins and this was some of the most fantastic food I've had this year, if not even longer than that! (See the photos we took, attached to this restaurant's review). The pork ternderloin was sliced pretty thin but there were four generous slices of it. It was prepared with green apples and red onions and came with a fantastically tasty but thinnish gravy generously enrobing all the flavors. The mashed potatoes had some yummy flavor that I couldn't identify and the steamed vegetables were still fairly crisp which was a good texture contrast to the meat and its soft accompaniments. This was food that had so much flavor, and so miuch complexity of taste, that each bite tasted slightly different but all were delicious. This was a masterpiece on the tongue, and it was presented attractively as well. For dessert, we got the tiramisu (so-so; Frankie's is better in my opinion) and the brownie, which was sumptuous and soft and warm from the oven, with two teeny scoops of perfect vanilla bean ice cream. It was excellent. Soda was served European-style (single-serve glass bottles) and the decaf drip coffee I had with dessert was excellent, rich and tasty without any hint of being burned. Service was attentive, professional, and friendly without being cloying or overwhelming, which was especially gracious considering that we were underdressed for Friday dinner (jeans). The only bummer was the atmosphere. Silk plants, huge glass windows that look directly outside to this mixed residential/business district, commercial carpeting, and plain walls do not make a cozy restaurant; instead, it feels like a restaurant in an unforgivingly boring generic commercial space, which is of course what they started with. They need some color, some flooring material change to something that reflects the style of the restaurant better, and even just sheers underneath the draperies to soften the light and shapes from the outdoors. Oh, and get some real plants. Silk plants are a HUGE turnoff to me. A litte dusty AND totally fake? No thanks! Still, you go there for the food and service, both of which were flawless.

I completely agree with the review below. Food was nothing fabulous and service was extremely crappy. Our meal was extremely rushed, food was shoved in front of us. We weren't even offered a dessert menu. If the staff has such a hurry to close this place down then why even bother opening it. I was very disappointed as I didn't expect this level of service considering that prices are high.

MMMM! I went here for lunch today. I enjoyed a cup of Tomato Soup, and was very pleased with the Jumbo Chicken Ravioli. What really stood out was the basalmic vinager that was drizzled on my plate... Finger licking good. Seriously. We were trying to determine what kind of food they have at this restaurant, it has influences from all around the Mediterranian. A definite must try! Also, I have left overs from lunch, so now I know what I'll be eating for dinner tonight. ;)

Wow is this place is good. No one knows it's tucked in behind the redmond way QFC, but I think they will eventually. I love the intimate feel of the place. It's a favorite date spot for me and my wife. Also, when you go try the oft overlooked soup... that's what hooked us the first time. Additionally, get some desert and anything in paillard form. Presentation is nice and the waitstaff is exceptionally friendly. Great spot when you want some quiet conversation away from the kiddies and great food at a reasonable price. Only con is their website sucks in Firefox.

We needed to find a good place for dinner in Redmond before going to see Cirque Du Soleil but were totally squeezed on time so a quick Yelp search brought us to Sages. The atmosphere is typical suburbia-does-italian, nothing too exeptional and due to our early time schedule we obviously must have caught the blue-hair hour. That part of the experience was fairly sterile and boring but the service was great, extremely attentive and they helped get us in and out in a short period of time. Both of our entrees were good but not great (Bart's Signature Chicken and Garlic Jumbo Prawns). They claim they're pink sauce is very popular but neither of our orders included it so maybe that's where we went wrong. The wine selection was decent and the prices were all very reasonable. The best part of the whole experience had to be the bruschetta - extremely well done and the owner didn't hesitate to share the chef's secret when asked. I won't be driving across the 520 to go to Sages but at least I know I've got a solid for italian if I find myself stuck over there.

Three of us had dinner at Sage's. Two of us had shellfish, one had pork. All in all, not a bad meal until both of us who had shellfish became VERY sick. I have not had food poisoning like that in many years. I know it can happen, but this was a weeknight and if the fish is managed carefully, well this is Seattle and the fish is supposed to be fresh. Will not return.

Been going to Sages for a long time. This place is so undiscovered its not funny. The food is great and tasty, the service is good, and the prices are reasonable. Every time I go for dinner and the place is not full I really feel bad for them. Meanwhile, so many other mediocre or overrated places are just packed. Downsides, and maybe why their not busier? Its in Redmond and who wants to deal with 520 at 6pm.

Wow. I've only eaten here once before, and it was fantastic. There were 4 of us, and we ordered mediterranean pasta, veal medallions, gnocchi, and the special of the night- the salmon. The food was so good we all had to share. EVERYTHING was amazing- that salmon was some of the best I have ever had. The restaurant is a very small, beautiful little place. The staff are incredibly friendly. I will definitely be eating here again!

This is my new favorite Italian Restaurant! One way I judge a restaurant is on their ability to prepare scallops - these are easy to screw up and easier to murder. I went with my kids and my wife and we all ordered something different. Everyone licked their plates, and the scallops were PERFECT. The wine was excellent, and the bread just right. But for me, with three kids, I didn't expect to get out of there for less than $150 - I have eaten Italian in Seattle for $80 a plate, but we all ate a delicious dinner together for a total of $100 and we had a salad and two glasses of wine as well. So great value, delicious, a friendly atmosphere with a wonderful server, Highly recommended.

It is a bit pricey, but worth it. The last time I went I had the special, which was a butternut squash ravioli. WOW. It was amazing. Sweet, creamy, and rich. The portion was large, but not too large. My wife had the pear Gorgonzola ravioli, which was also great. We'll definitely be back.

Being from the Bay Area, I tend to be a little arrogant when it comes to reviewing restaurants in the Seattle Area. Last night, my arrogance came falling down when five of us dined at Sages. This place has all of the right ingredients, ambiance, service and food. Everything was sparking clean with a warm, inviting and charming atmosphere (burning fireplace and white cotton tablecloths). Our waiter, Slavy (?) was the quentessential waiter. He was charming and classy, without being too charming, knew his wines and knew the menu. He was a 10! The busser kept the waters filled, table cleared of plates and was unassuming. Last but not least, the food was superb. We ordered grilled prawns and caprese as apptizers. Both were presented beautifully and tasted even better. All of the entrees were delicious. I ordered linguini with fresh clams and asked if the pasta could be cooked al dente. The chef accommodated me and it was perfect. We ordered a sampler dessert plate that was a perfect end to the meal. I forgot to mention that being that it was late in the evening, I enjoyed a delicious cup of freshly brewed decaf coffee and Slavy gave us all an after-dinner chocolate to top off a perfect evening. It doesn't get any better. We are now new regulars to Sages. Keep up the good work.

This was my second time there. Food was good (a little too buttery to be great), however the service was awful. The place was barely half full and I mentioned to the1 lone waiter that he must have been short staffed tonight since we had been waiting so long for him to take our order. He promptly replied 'no - just a regular night'! On our second bottle of wine (was a group of 5 of us), he wanted to use the same glasses for a completely different wine (pinot vs cab), and some were not even finished their first glass! After all that, we finished our main course and he asked if we would like the bill now... I had to ask him if they even served deserts!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
