Best ice cream in the world waitstaff are very friendly and deserve to be recognized as the friendliest waitstaff around I have gotten ice cream at this location for about 13 years now and have never been let down

I don't like to give out bad reviews (especially when we're regulars) but this one needed to be shared. Two of my boys have diary allergies so we always go for the same exact ice cream at Baskin Robbins (daiquiri ice). When my 10 year old saw that they had another flavor (Triple Ice I believe), he was excited. He asked for a sample and it was good so he got the large scoop in a Waffle cone. After the first bite however, it was all wrong (the smile on his face immediately turned sour). The sample did not reflect the bitter rum syrup that was integrated throughout. I asked what was wrong and he said it was bitter and he couldn't eat it. I said, "no problem, we'll just get the daiquiri ice." I went back to the counter where the girl shared that she would have to charge me. I was surprised by this statement considering the ice cream had hardly been touched and I had just spent $11 on two cones. Okay, I get it. Manager isn't there. She doesn't want to make a mistake and give away the store. I had a flashback memory of working as a Starbuck's barista over 20 years ago. They said, "the customer is paying $3 for a cup of coffee. If they're not happy with it, toss it out and make it right!" This was clearly not the training that the Baskin Robbins staff had received. I then asked the server to please dump out the existing ice cream so that I could still use the Waffle cone. She took the cone in her bare hands then responded, "I'm not supposed to be touching this with my bare hands after handling money." Okay, so then what would most people (especially in the food service industry do?). Right. They would toss the cone and get me a new one. Nope. She got a napkin, wrapped the cone up, dumped the ice cream, then handed it back to me. At this point I'm pretty upset but I'm not going to take a perfectly good moment with my boys and turn it into something mean and nasty, however, my kids are already feeling 'weird' since they can see that I was upset. My 10 year old says to me "Sorry Dad". OMG! I took my boys for a celebration ice cream and he's apologizing for the mistake of the employee. My association with Baskin Robbins is forever changed. Although I was upset, I didn't write up a Yelp review or post the story to Facebook or Twitter. Instead, I email customer service at Baskin Robbins to let them know the scenario so they can train the owner. The owner then sends me this email: "Howard, Sorry to hear about your bad experience at our store. You are absolutely correct in that the employee should have given you a new cone after touching your cone with her bare hands, however, she was correct in charging for the scoop(s) of ice cream, after all that is what tasting the ice cream before making your decision is for. You stated that your son had a sample of the ice cream prior to making his decision. This employee has been made aware of this issue and has assured that in the future she will always use a protective barrier when the situation requires it." It was because of the owner's email response why I decided to write this Yelp Review. Thanks for setting me straight, I guess? Definition: "con·de·scend·ing adjective: having or showing a feeling of patronizing superiority. synonyms: patronizing, supercilious, superior, snobbish, snobby, disdainful, lofty, haughty" I doubt many people will read this Yelp review since whoever thinks to read a Yelp review for Baskin Robbins? The main thing that gets me upset is that we (people I mean) go out for ice cream sometimes just for ice cream but also for the experience (a moment with the kids, a celebration, to get cheered up, etc.) I hope that's not forgotten.
