Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. Almost every burger is rich in sodium content and it is highly recommended to keep your burger cravings in control while dining at Whataburger. However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for Diabetics:

A diabetic should resist from ordering any extra meat-based burger such as Double Meat Whataburger or Triple Meat Whataburger to limit the sodium intake and calories. Most burgers except the Whataburger Jr. are high in sodium and hence should be avoided.

High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Sweat & Spicy Bacon Burger will add extra 1080 calories in your diet so skip that as well. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

Insider tip: You get the half-reuben, you ask for roast beef instead of corned beef since they roast their own beef and most the other meats have preservatives, then you ask them to toast it. Try it once and you'll never want a mushy reuben again. You won't even miss the corned beef! Or you can just ask for the "Lee".

    (5)
  • Brad R.

Split a reuben with the wife. The rye bread was fresh baked, soft and delicious. The kraut tasted homemade and it was loaded with meat. Th eother food that was being served looked equally good. Will definately go back and tey aome other dishes. We were there on a busy weekend but got right in. Food came out fast too.

YUMMMMY If I had more time I would have went multiple times but I was just in Anacortes for their annual Shipwreck Festival and someone on Tripadvisor recommended eating here. Good thing I didn't have to hunt to find this place as it was in the heart of the festivities on Commercial Avenue. It was jammed-packed due to the festival (understandable) and there was a line for the toilet (understandable) and hardly anywhere to sit (understandable) and one of THE most popular places to eat (totally understandable). Clam chowder was scoop-it-yourself (no refills) and your server brought you the plate of the side biscuit and salad; a great deal for about 5 clams. We had to share a table but luckily the other eaters ignored us. I got to see their lovely cheesecake and it made me want some but I passed as the thing looked like it weighed 2 pounds and would take 3 days to eat.

The food has great quality great quantity and great taste unbelievable if you don't stop in you're in the area oh what a loss

I wasn't a fan of this place. The menu wasn't super easy to read. And the staff wasn't the nicest. I ended up getting a melt which was super awesome. I just wasn't a fan of the customer service.

  • Chase H.

This place was super busy, and it was for good reason. Because it's old school deli licous.

I have found myself recently dreaming of the brownie I had here two months ago. Good gravy this place was amazing. I keep bugging my wife to take the ferry out of Anacortes, not because I really want to go to Orcas Island, but because I want to stop back in to Gere-a-Deli on the way to the ferry. I had some sort of Italian sandwich that blew my mind. Believe it or not, but it almost had TOO much meat on it. The bread was outstanding and the delicious slaw that came with it was crazy good. So anyway, on to that brownie. I dream of that brownie. I lust after that brownie. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of human brownie marriages, I will marry that Gere-a-deli brownie. We also got some other delicious baked goods while we were there, but nothing compares to my muse/love of my life.....dat brownie. Do not go anywhere else in Anacortes.

Sorry Mom, their meatloaf sandwich trumps yours! Nice clean place with home made desserts and sandwiches. Friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Wish they stayed open later!

Delicious! We stopped there on the way to the ferry to Vancouver Island, and it was so good that we stopped in on our way back, too. I had the chicken barbecue sandwich, and it was YUMMY! I would certainly go back.

When I was a kid, we lived in the apartments above their original location on Fourth Street, Phil and Laurie Gere were always so kind and welcoming. The sandwiches they serve were generous and reminiscent of the traditional New York Deli's. Thin sliced meat piled high and super tasty. My favorite has always been the Turk-a-room, served on a roll with sweet hot mustard and melty shoes with fresh mushroom and turkey. It's extra delicious. I am making myself hungry for one now!

  • Michelle M.

Great place for lunch, to-go salads and sandwiches - plentiful quantity of really delicious food- you can't go wrong choosing a meal here. Takes phone in orders and a great choice if you need to catch a ferry and bring a lunch onboard!

  • Jason G.

This place is always busy, but definelty worth the wait.. The service is prompt, and the environment inside the deli is very comfortable! I had the turkey club with a fancy pasta salad, and a cookie that seemed like it had everything u could think of in it, very good !!

  • Nicole M.

Every town needs a place like this. Seems all the locals come here for lunch on a regular basis...which speaks volumes. Friendly service, fresh ingredients, good menu.

Cute deli with great prices. -Fresh bread, good selection of deli meats, and creative sandwiches with generous portions. -Very decent price point- only $10 for a 12 inch sandwich that's ginormous enough for the two of us to split. -Clam chowder with fresh large hunks of clams (and 1/2 price refills of soup). So, $14 lunch for both of us where we left very full- that's a deal in my book. Atmosphere isn't all that cozy in a cafe-kind-of-way, but rather has an industrial/retro feel. I'm sure that's intentional; judging by of the ordering line length, it's an eat-and-be-on-your-way type of place. Very worth it.

    (4)
  • Nick C.

Deish, fresh made, dirt cheap deli food in a fun atmosphere. Put our name on the list a Adrift next door, but lunch for two was half the price of one entrée there. The pasta salad was especially good. It's no wonder this place is so crazy crowded.

    (5)
  • Emily G.

Reasonable prices and fast service. Gere a dehli is a popular lunch place for locals because of the consistent good quality and variety of food at a decent price. There's lots of seating indoor and outdoor. Some of my favorites are the Caesar salad (the dressing is creamy but not heavy and the bread roll is super good) Old Chicago (pastrami with light but creamy coleslaw), the Gobbler (thanksgiving turned into a sandwich) , turkey club, and the CLAM CHOWDER! I've tried others and Gere a dehli's is the best in Anacortes. A good dessert is the polar bear which is a dark chocolate cake with cold buttercream frosting covered with more dark chocolate. Brownies and cookies are great too, and any of the berry desserts are a good choice.

  • Alan K.

Great deli sandwiches! The restaurant was really busy but we were able to order and eat in less than 30 minutes. The turkey pastrami and pastrami sandwiches were delicious! Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for lunch on the way to the San Juan Islands Ferry.

Great sandwiches with local ingredients and super soups ! Only serve clam chowder Friday and Saturday. Very casual crowd looks like a mix of locals and tourists . Very good food at an affordable price. Give it a try.

While visiting Anacortes and looking for a place where we could have our dog with us for lunch, we found Gere-a-Deli. Eating outside and enjoying the lovely downtown was a bonus. The menu had a terrific variety of food from which to choose. Pretty much American food with many dessert choices. I had the tuna melt sandwich with a side of potato salad. Generous and robust with lots of tuna. Their homemade rye bread was superb. All in all, delicious. The restaurant itself was packed with people....retro style with lots of "old" posters and signs on the wall. The folks taking my order were very efficient and very cordial. I look forward to eating here again.

  • Kim G.

Great sandwiches, yummy potato salad and delicious "Panda Bears" (tastes like a Hostess Cupcake). It's a funky, fun place to kick off your walk through downtown Anacortes. We'll be back!

Very helpful staff as I had no idea what to order and good suggestions were given. I had a bagel sandwich with ham and cheese inside. The slightly toasted babel was quite good actually. Good for light breakfast.

Love to bring my clients to here for lunch. Lots of amazing fresh soups daily. Sandwiches great and also salads even quinoa. Prices perfect for average person to afford. Lots of seating or take out too. Don't forget your brownies for dessert.

We were in Anacortes on a very bait Saturday and this place had it totally handled. There was a line going out the door but it wasn't long at all. The food was great and they even had gluten free bread for my sons allergies. It was delicious and everything on their menu looked delicious.

  • Andrea M.

Went there this afternoon. It was busy but worth the wait. I had the tuna melt and a cup of chowder .. It was amazing !! My friend had the cob salad .. Also very good !!

  • Sachi B.

Great sandwiches and wonderful clam chowder. I usually have the Italian sandwich and have never been disappointed! There are also many great treats (brownies, cobblers, pies and cookies). It gets busy but the line moves quickly. Definitely worth the wait.

Awesome little deli in a quaint little town. Really enjoyed their hummus wrap with the complimentary fruit salad. I would definitely hit this place up if I was in this part of town again.

  • Brian G.

Had a great lunch here. As folks say, the brownie was amazing. We enjoyed some sandwiches and I got a salad. There was a line out the door when we showed up - but they moved us through the line relatively quickly. We found a nice place to sit by the window and they brought our food out to us. The sandwiches were good, although the sourdough bread was not amazing. The salad I got was really good. But the brownie & carrot cake were amazing. So, go for dessert - enjoy a sandwich if you want. Prices were completely reasonable. The brownie was under $2 and was plenty big.

  • Robert A.

Great sandwiches. My favorites are the supremo "hot", turkey chest delight, ranch club, fresh mozzarella, french dip with onions and swiss. In that order. Also try the chicken mango pasta salad. Yum

The food here is great! They also have local beer on tap and make a great latte! The atmosphere is really relaxed, great for the family and great antique decor. The staff is friendly and helpful.

  • CRC C.

Friendly staff. Very fresh food! Generous portions! Generous portions of meat on the sandwiches as well! The foot long really seems like a 2 foot long!! Busy but not too long of a wait and was well worth it! Will be back for sure! I felt that the prices were good for the portions we got. Mmmm!

  • Renu D.

Very good coffee and bagels. Excellent and FAST service. Do NOT miss their brownies!! They are sublime. And so is their chocolate cake. It's a great place to have a grab and go breakfast before you head out to the ferry and enjoy the rest of your day.

Love the sandwiches. Laurie's brownies and curried chicken salad are amazing.

    (5)
  • Cassi W.

Great sandwich selection. Noisy environment. Good dessert selection too. Pretty pricey but they do it because they can. People still eat here because the food is good. I love their rye bread ... It is so soft and moist!! Good lunch stop. My orders usually take a while to get though ...

  • Tiffany M.

I still have dreams about the chicken mango pasta salad. You will never find anything quite like it nor have a comparable homemade version. I lived there for years and I never got sick of it - the perfect creaminess, sweetness, and al-dente. If dinner is still served on the weekends, some of the best prime rib can be found here as well.

    (5)
  • Steve F.

Been going to lunch here consistently for years. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu

    (5)
  • Sherrie B.

I ate here twice in the past couple years and it was mediocre at best. I had the Italian the first time and given the price I expected it to be a little more meaty but it wasn't and the bread was too hard. The second time I ate the chicken salad and it wasn't bad. Today I went back to give it a third and final try but when I walked in at 4:30 the girl tells me if you are here for a sandwich we are all out. Okay yes it was the shipwreck festival but for a deli to be out of sandwiches and not just any deli but a deli that has been around for 20+ years and failed to prepare for a festival I mean come on. If a deli runs out of sandwich stuff then close. Don't leave your doors open. It was my last straw.

    (1)
  • Rebecca G.

If I had one these in my town, I'm not sure I would go anywhere else. It was hard not to order half the menu as it all looked tempting but I settled for a Cobb salad. Fresh, abundant, and delicious. Coffee was good and I won't even get started on the desserts. Go here.

  • ISAAC J.

If you are ever in Anacortes please check this place out. Great sandwiches and salads. Food is made fresh and the price is really reasonable. I like the decor of the place. Be prepared to wait in line on the weekends but it is well worth it.

I typically wouldn't rate a sandwich as 5-star, but I have to. I ordered the french dip, and I eat a lot of french dips, this was up there with one of the best. The bread was crusty and flavorful, the beef was well cooked and not fatty, and the au jus was just the right amount of salty goodness. I got the 12 inches, and I nearly fell off my diner chair when it arrived. Insert your joke here, but I am a bad judge of measurements. It came out in four huge portions, clearly, it was more than 12 inches. My husband had to help me eat it all, in addition to his large sandwich. But we just about did it. He also had a chocolate brownie, which was chocolately and delicious. The service was friendly, the decor was super fun. Looks like a lot of regulars come here (since a few tables were reserved with signs indicating the regularity), but we were treated really well as pesky tourists.

It's all about their blackberry pie ala mode!

  • Joli W.

Drove off the ferry and topped here for lunch. Husband and I split the Shrimpie (Shrimp, Cream Cheese, Avocado, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Sprouts, and Mayo) on whole wheat, light on the cream cheese. As a side we had the potato salad, all so good. 4 of us shared the Famous Marion Berry Cobbler w/vanilla ice cream - it was gone in a flash.

    (4)
  • Lynn B.

It was okay. The sandwich selection was very good, but the gluten free bread was not good. The shrimpie sandwich was very bland. The pickles are good. Not a place for children, and the staff aren't rude but not particularly friendly either. I might try again because so many locals rave about this place, but wasn't too impressed.

Fantastic sandwich with homemade bread! I had the Italian sub and ate the entire sandwich, which is rare!

  • A. B.

I'm reviewing only one menu item... there was a chocolate cake, topped with a massive squiggle of vanilla buttercream, dipped in chocolate in the cold case. "One to-go please!" First off, it was under $3 which was utterly amazing. Secondly, it was about the most amazing chocolate cake I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Thirdly, we didn't have utensils so I ended up eating with my fingers... and you know what?? I didn't mind one darn bit. The guy working the counter was super nice too. Next trip to Anacortes will include another stop here. And the next trip, and the next, and..............

Great sandwiches.... We had the some like it hot and the crusty croation... They were both amazing!!! Great Price... Two sandwiches and an Alaskan Amber for $17! Would definitely come back for lunch again :) also had an amazing piece of cheesecake twice the size of on at Cheesecake Factory for only $4!

Fantastic surprise. Never thought I would be blown away by the quality of a sandwich. Had the Thursday special roast beef. Meat cooked to perfection. Bread toasted just right. Just the right flavors in the sauce. Superb!

This place is the best. I worked a week in anacortes and came here every other day to try new sandwiches. They were all great. If you have one meal in anacortes go to gere-a-deli. Gets a little busy so beat the lunch rush if possible.

My son and I stopped in at Gere-A-Deli for lunch based on all the positive reviews from Yelpers and locals alike. My son and I started with the cheddar corn chowder, which was superb. Nice big chunks of potato, plenty of corn, and the cheddar really stood out. I was pleased, although my son got the larger share. We moved on to the roast beef with pepper jack on house made sour dough. Fabulous! The sour dough was some of the best I've had in a long time (outside of my favorite sandwich shop back home). The roast beef was tender and cooked to perfection, and it wasn't drowning in mayonnaise, which has ruined many sandwiches for me. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and coffee. It was a huge portion, and it was quite tasty. However, it wasn't truly cheesecake as I know and love it. It was more of the no-bake variety, which is never my preference. Overall, it was an outstanding experience. The best part of this great meal? With tip, it came in at under $16 (and I tip 20-25% on average). I was surprised at the cost for the quality they served up. As a note, it does fill up fast. If you don't mind hanging back and lurking, grab one of the tables out front. Well worth it to sit in the sun and enjoy a bite to eat. To echo the thoughts of other Yelpers, if you have but one meal in Anacortes, make it Gere-A-Deli.

We liked the food here so well that we stopped by here a week later on our way home from vacation. Their sandwiches are really great! We split a 12-inch sandwich and followed it with a piece of their carrot cake. On our return trip, we ordered a salad and a sandwich. Of course, we had to get a piece of that fantastic carrot cake again! We may never pass this way again, but for any of you who do, I think you too will be fans of this establishment!

We lived on our boat in Anacortes for 10 months and ate here almost every week day for lunch. Amazingly good everything. The sandwiches are fresh and there are so many options to choose from, you really need a moment to "digest" the menu. Their soups are a celebration of love. We really enjoy the quinoa salad, and the berry cobbler is worth saving room for. Its the happening place in town for lunch "cafeteria style". You won't be sorry you stopped here!!

An Anacortes institution! Great sandwich shop with a wonderful menu. Good portions and quality ingredients. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere of the place is charming. It has been a favorite place of mine in Anacortes since I was a teenager (and that was awhile ago!).

I enjoyed the coconut cupcake. It wasn't original by any stretch of the imagination, but it was quite tasty. ~ On a side note, I liked the coffee mug display. Once again, leave it to Washington to live and breathe anything coffee related.

Great sandwiches. The choices are almost overwhelming. Really solid potato salad. Worth the .50 cent upgrade (from potato chips). Good, attentive service. Busy, but the lines move. Unsurprisingly, it gets very busy on a Friday for lunch. Parking isn't great, but that's not their fault. You need a car to get around in Anacortes, but on some stretches of Commercial there aren't enough parking spots. Perhaps a combination of poor city planning, ferry parking, and local retail doing reasonably well. A little patience and a short walk solves the parking.

After having a lackluster meal next door at Adrift, we entered Gere-A-Deli with trepidation. All that dissipated as soon as we bit into the Fresh Mozza Sandwich. It is described as "Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Basil Pesto, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions & Sprouts, with Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing on a Ciabatta Roll" on their website and it was delicious! The flavors were complementary, none overpowering the other, a feat with pesto in the mix. This particular sandwich was not massive, but maybe that's just because it left me wanting more. At $5.99, getting more will not be a problem. We also tried an almond brownie, oddly our first bites reminded us both of the pre-packaged Little Debbie brownies, not a good comparison. We don't doubt that the brownies were fresh baked, they are displayed on the sheet they were baked in, but we were confused by the similarities in taste it had with the processed, hydrogenated, made to last for years, snack. We're knocking off a star for the weird brownie. We had to circle the block once for parking, but there were plenty of spots at 12pm on a Saturday afternoon within a block or two. The place was full of what looked to be teenage girls working the registers and making the sandwiches, the service was fine, it's what you'd expect from a bustling deli. The deli surprised us, it is in a nice looking building with plenty of room. We took our sandwich to go, but there are plenty of tables available for those that do eat-in. Overall, we recommend this place to anyone looking for a great lunch in Anacortes.

What can I say I'm a sucker for liverwurst. Any place that makes an awesome liverwurst sandwich, and even has it on the regular menu is great in my book. But Gere-A-Deli offers much more than mere tasty sandwiches, and has a variety of entree's, salads, soups, drinks, and pastries (yes I'm talking to you my recent birthday piece of heavenly and lusciously chocolaty cake). It is a local place, which is always awesome and they have a great selection that I think would suit nearly every taste including out toddler's. Just a fun and friendly place, and a great place to have my birthday lunch with my family. Don't forget dinner every Friday in summer!

Two for lunch on a weekday. Very busy. The good: 1. Large, well run, eclectic, great ambiance. 2. Full of history and pretty good food. 3. Vast array of choices. 4. Good portions and generous fillings in the sandwiches. 5. Can get in and out quick if you are in a hurry. 6. Near the docks on the north side of the main st. The not so good: 1. Parking can be a little rough during peak hours due to old downtown style parking. Not the fault of the deli of course. Comes with the age of the town.

Good for a basic lunch with your standard sandwiches and soups. I had the clam chowder (yum) and a side salad (huge!). Also got the awesome brownies. All in all, it was a little confusing to order and then you are handed bowl with no instructions on where to fill it up, which was kind of a turn off when it is just from a big self serve pot. Then a little later someone brings you the salad to your table and then you have to remind them that you bought a brownie and that shows up later. So I think the customer service could be polished up. Otherwise food was good for the price but to me it wasn't the foodie heaven that the other reviews had suggested.

I like the food here but I feel they could do a couple things better with very little work and make the environment much better. They need to route the line a bit better so it doesn't screw up the whole dining room. They also need to get some number flags or something so I don't have to listen to they teenage servers run around yelling names the whole time. If I was rating this place just on the food I would say 4 or 4.5 stars.

Best deli in the West. Sandwiches are huge, fresh and tasty. Daily soups, salads and specials give lots of choices. Anacortes is a boating and recreational community and Gere-A-Deli's boxed lunches to go for any outing are legendary. A local favorite

The latte was amazing and we had a quiche and french dip sandwich as well. Both were really good. The coffee was great, the food was good and the price was a welcome break. Definitely recommend stopping in.

I had the Crusty Croation, which had a good balance of meat, cheese, bread, vegetables, and condiments, allowing each flavor to assert itself. The bread had just enough crispness on the outside. I would like to have gotten the fruit salad but it had a disproportionate amount of melon. I'm not a melon fan anyway, and it seemed odd given the abundance of fresh berries available in this time and place. I bought a tasty bottled root beer from Port Angeles, WA. The deli was a bit loud and chaotic. They take names with the orders and have servers call them out to deliver each to the right table. They might try giving out numbers but they often sound similar as well. The cheesecake looked good, but too large for one person.

This is one of my favorite lunch spots when I go up to visit my parents. There is usually a pretty long line if you come right at lunch but it does more pretty fast. There is a large selection of deli food but I always order a sandwich with a side of potato salad - yummy! Great lunch spot if you are in Anacortes!

Probably the restaurant with the widest food-selection in all of Anacortes. Great menu with pastas, salads, sandwiches, wraps, soups and desserts! As an Anacortes native, I can honestly say I've eaten here many times and have NEVER had a bad meal. At work, I frequently order their soup/salad/roll deal for lunch, for only $6-and-change. It's a great deal! Their soups are impressive every time, even if I order one that doesn't sound so great, I always end up loving it. Amazing sandwiches, would recommend the Fresh Mozza, The Gobbler (where else can you get turkey and cranberries on a sandwich other than the week after Thanksgiving??), the Mexican Chicken Wrap and so so so many more. The carrot cake is to die for and you muuust try the Fidalgo Cookie. I'm moving out of Anacortes in 3 weeks, and I will request that my family mail me Fidalgo cookies on a regular basis so I don't go through withdrawal. I know you'll enjoy this place as much as I do!

Gere-A-Deli..... I miss you!!! I don't know how I live without your Gere-A-Deli Supremo, with a side of the artichoke and lemon bowtie pasta (do they still make that?). I dream about you, and I wake up chewing my pillow. Don't forget a brownie.... Mmmmmm.... or a cookie. You just can't go wrong! The ambiance, decor, service and food are to die for. I would take up residency there if it wasn't illegal. Until I return, I will continue pillow-munching. I need the Gere-A-Deli equivalent within walking distance of my work where I'm living now, much like I had it in Anacortes, WA. I had a special line in my budget just for you Gere-A-Deli. Beware of tourist season. Don't go right at noon. Go at 11/11:30 and beat the mad rush of people lining up out the door. Enjoy, Anacortes, you are lucky people.

I like meat. I like sandwiches. This is THE place! Having lived in the midwest and growing up on hero subs, I found GAD to be an incredible surprise in this little island town. The meats and cheeses are absolutely delicious, fresh, and cut to proper slice thickness. Secret sauces are delicious and you can't go wrong with a hot or cold sandwich. Salads are tasty, and OOOOOWWWWW the DESERTS! You better be ready to share the tasties and have espresso ready because they are rich delicious. The cooler stocks fancy sodas and you can get a cold one too. Try a pickle instead of chips! This place definitely gets a line, but it moves fast enough, for island speed that is..... Quench your thirst my friends. Cheers.

French dip sandwich is the best there is. Pastries are also great. Fun atmosphere in an oldtime soda fountain area.

Missed my ferry so came here at 1:00 on a Thursday and the place was jumping! It's huge and airy on the inside, with very high ceilings and tons of light. The crowd is varied and energetic. It seemed like most patrons were happy to be there. A single line forms for all registers. Specials are listed on a chalkboard, but jump up to the register to pick up a full menu, then make your selection while waiting in line. If you don't want a fountain drink, also choose from their wide selection of drinks on the right before hopping back in line. I opted for a 1/2 chicken salad on wheat but they were out of wheat bread. I choose sourdough instead. I had a choice of chips, cole slaw or something else as a side and went with the chips. A Snapple brought my order to a little more than $7. After you order, grab utensils and napkins from the station at the center pole, as these aren't served with the meal. The food took a reasonable amount of time to arrive, given the crowd at the time. When you hear one of the servers call your name, raise your arm up since it's kinda noisy for them to hear you say anything. The food is incredibly fresh and yummy. I will definetly return to explore their menu further.

Incredibly addictive sandwiches. Be warned! This is a TOP NOTCH deli with fresh ingredients and some amazing desserts (if you have room). To die for food. Almost always a line but it moves quickly. Casual atmosphere (it is called a "deli" after all) seat yourself, get your own refills. If you haven't been here yet, get off the Internet right now and go.

I've worked here for the past seven years and let me tell you, Gere-a-Deli is one of a kind! There are so many different options that everyone is bound to find something they love. Sandwiches, salads, soups, pastas, and some of the tastiest desserts you will ever eat! Personally, I'd recommend the Fresh Mozza with turkey or the Turkey Chest Delight; and you can't go wrong with a chocolate brownie! While it's always pretty busy, the line moves fast and your food is prepared quickly and efficiently. I may be biased, but I've heard it enough from customers to know it: if you haven't tried this place and you live in town, you're missing out! ;)

Overall Gere-A-Deli has some GREAT sandwiches! When I go there I usually get their daily special and soup. It's very reasonably priced and they give you a good amount of food. In the summer time they typically do Friday night dinners, which they have a great menu and food! Yummy

A nice place for a casual meal. Food is good. Prices are reasonable. Decor is fun, lots of old signage, Would gladly return. Beer and on tap root beer were big winners.

Anyone who knows me can attest to my deeply rooted adoration for all things between two slices of bread. I don't care what kind of bread. Wheat, White, Rye, Sourdough, Croissant, Roll... Shit, I'd even take the heels of the loaf. (Fondly referred to in my home as "Butt bread") After a long hike with my sister, niece, my brother in law and his Navy seal friend around Deception Pass and surrounding areas, we hopped up into Anacortes to find some food. Sam (Navy man) suggested Gere-a-deli and we all weakly obliged. When my sister asked what kind of food they had, he blankly stared and said, "um. Deli stuff?" So we schlepped in and placed our orders. My sandwich was huge and delicious and wonderful and sandwich-y. My only complaint has nothing to do with the actual deli except for the fact that it was the scene in which the following took place. Me - (filling my lemonade from the spout) Middle-aged Man stares me down... slightly lecherous, but not really. M-A M: you must be crazy to get a tattoo way up in there Me: Oh? this one (pointing to the chai on the inside of my left arm) Nah, it didn't really hurt. It only took about five minutes. M-A M: Were you stoned or drunk or something? Me: *Blank stare* M-A M: I don't have the nuts to get any tattoos. That, or I've just got too much brains. *Self-indulgent chuckle* Me: *Blank stare* . AND swift exit. FUN STUFF!!

A large sized Deli with lots of classic Americana decorations. Your ordered items will get delivered by a server who will call out your name. So, you'll be hearing lots name shouting. This restaurant will easily seat over 50 people for a place called a Deli. They sell soup and sandwiches for lunch and they taste fresh and delicious.

I can't stand awful customer service! I said hello and the teenage girls continued their conversation while one of them kept her back to me and the other looked at me. I just stood at the cash register with my purchase with a smile on my face. Finally, the girl turns around and doesnt' look at me or say anything except how much the item was. I wanted to bring my hubby here for lunch but now, not so sure. Please teach the staff to be polite!

A perfect lunch! Looking for lunch with my boyfriend while passing through town. This restaurant is a true gem. Everything was so fresh and homemade (besides the brea, which was local). We'll definitely be back! We shared a California BLT and a Cobb Salad and there was more than enough food and delicious. Love this vintage kitchen!!!

Best sandwich shop in town. I love the "some like it hot.". It is stacked high with fresh veggies, lots of meat and cheese. The portions are generous and the food is delicious. Around $8 bucks for a sandwich and chips. Make sure to go early for lunch, say 11:00am in order to get a table. Also, they serve dinner which I have never had. I wonder if it is good.

NOM. I've been here for lunch the past two days while in town for Thankgiving. They seem to always be busy, but service is quick and the sandwiches are huge and really quite good. The French Dip is my fav so far. Try a brownie too. They are slightly evil for putting them right out on display by the register, forcing me to indulge. I will miss this place when I leave to head back home.

Honestly, after looking around at the options in Anacortes this looked like the best place - so maybe that is why most of the reviews are good? My husband and I stopped in this afternoon for some lunch while we were up visiting the area. We both ordered the veggie pita. I asked for mine without swiss, they brought it out to the table and said that since they were out of provolone (my requested substitute) they went ahead and put the swiss on anyway. What? Why? Not the biggest deal - but weird. Why would you put it on when you know you will bring it out to me and say, oh, we know you didn't want this - but we did it anyway. Anyway - while I was ripping open and destroying the pita pocket (have you ever tried to take anything out of one of those?!) to pull the swiss off my husband commented that I probably wouldn't even notice since the entire sandwich was utterly tasteless. He was right - these were the BLANDEST sandwiches. He also ordered a bowl of their corn chowder - after he added plenty of tabasco, pepper, and salt he said it was closely resembling soup with flavor. As people who rarely add salt to anything at all, vegetarians who eat fresh, raw vegetables with almost every meal, we have to say that although this place was clean and reasonably priced we will skip it on our future visits.

We had Gere-A-Deli cater a dinner for us and the food was simply excellent. I highly recommend the prime rib. Catered dinners come with a wonderful mango-cheese ball and crackers, a crudite platter with the best buttermilk dressing you'll ever taste, a salad, and plenty of sides. Price per person for the meal was very reasonable given the quality of the food. Delivery was on-time, service was impeccable and the catering staff was very friendly. We will definitely visit the cafe the next time we're in Anacortes. I can't give Gere-A-Deli five stars because communication with the owner is very touch-and-go, somewhat informal, and lacking timely follow up. You have to be fairly flexible and take the initiative to iron out details up to the last minute, and then cross your fingers that things will just work out as planned. Lucky for us, they did.

If I could give 6 stars I would. This is truly as good as a deli gets. I had Turkey, cheese and bacon on wheat and hubby had Italian deli sandwich. Lots of quality meats on Fresh breads. Clam chowder is rich and thick and loaded with clams. So flavorful!! Probably one of the best we ever had. To top all that we bought a brownie(at least 5" square 1" thick) that was moist soft and chewy with almonds and loaded with chocolate chips. Brownie was only $1.80. Decadent!! We were here 24 years ago and it was even better than we remembered.

We found this gem for lunch before taking an afternoon kayaking trip. Don't be discouraged if there are lines as they move fast. There are really too many options for food here which makes the decision making difficult. But whether you go with quiches, soups, salads, or sandwiches you can't miss. Fresh baked bread makes them extra special. Save room for desert as they have some really tempting goodies. Wished I had one of these near where I live for weekly treats.

We stumbled on this gem on the way to catch the ferry to Friday Harbor. Husband and I split the salmon chowder and a turkey sandwich (can't remember the exact name, had turkey, cheese, and bacon). We got them to go and ate in the car while waiting for the ferry. They both were delicious. The sandwich had a very generous amount of meat on it. They have a nice selection of rare sodas (can sugar sweetened too!) and some VERY delicious looking desserts, even though we didn't try them. Will go back when I'm back in Anacortes!

Uh-mazing! Yes, it gets super busy at lunchtime so you may have to wait a bit for your order but that is because it's ridiculously good food and everyone in town knows it! If you are getting it to go call ahead and plan on 15 minutes (during the lunch rush) for it to be ready for pickup. There is a separate register on the side for pick up orders so you don't need to wait in the main line. My usual is the Fresh Mozza "as is, no red onions" - as is meaning don't add turkey which is an option on this otherwise meat free sandwich. It's so delicious it's silly. My husband gets the Italian Sub (which is huge!) and loves it every time. All around awesome lunch spot, wish it was closer to me so I could go more often!!!

On a little sightseeing jaunt around Anacortes and Fidalgo Island, we stopped in for lunch at this deli. Apparently, it's a happening place on the weekends, as the line went out the door for most of the time that we were there. The selection of sandwiches and other deli fare was pretty extensive. There are a number of specialty sandwiches and salads, as well as your typical deli standards. You also have the option of customizing your own sandwich with a varied choice of meats, cheeses, and condiments. Among our group, we had the chicken salad sandwich (which had the nice addition of grapes to the chicken salad), the shrimpie sandwich (which was a tasty combination of shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, cucumbers, tomatoes, sprouts, and mayo), the crusty croatian sandwich (salami, proscuitto, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a ciabatta roll), and a pastrami sandwich. We also had some of the chili and clam chowder soups, which you serve yourself out of the counter hot crock pots and can get refills for half the price of the original cup or bowl. The sandwiches are an average size and come with your choice of chips, coleslaw, or pickle spear. I was hoping to get a New York deli sized helping of pastrami with my sandwich, but that wasn't the case here. However, they get bonus points for baking their own bread for the sandwiches. Obviously a homophonic play on the more famous San Francisco chocolate, the playfulness extends to the decor of the deli. The walls were covered with vintage / nostalgic soda and dessert signs...think the classic Coca-Cola and Pepsi ads, and some not-seen-in-awhile brands like Bubble Up, Hires, and Slush Puppy. Along with your typical square tables, the deli also boasts some large kidney bean shaped tables that apparently can be reserved for groups, as some of them had signs reserving the tables for local book and bicycling clubs that day. Dessert choices were pretty good, with the selections ranging from cheesecake to cobblers to cookies and brownies. The cookies and brownies come in gargantuan sizes and we took a couple of cookies with us for the road. Overall, a pleasant place to have a meal if you happen to be on the island.

This is a wonderful family owned, small town deli/restaurant. The sandwiches are fresh and top notch. Every sandwich I have had has been wonderful. My wife loves the egg salad. The sandwiches are large and on freshly baked bread. On my most recent visit, I had a cup of clam chowder and the Old Chicago sandwich. It is sliced turkey pastrami, swiss cheese, and cole slaw. Delicious!!!!
