It's easy to tell when a place is good by how many locals are willing to wait to be seated. This place jumps! Lots of tables, indoor and outdoor seating and WiFi. I only purchased baked goods and they have a great selection of Gluten free and non Gluten free choices. I bought some of each and I would be hard pressed to tell which was which, in a good way! Next time I am in town I will be sure to try a sit down meal.

Delicious! Stopped here on a busy Friday morning before the ferry. Great food and service! Can't ask for more than that. If you are a gluten free eater, this is the place for you! I haven't had a waffle in years. It tasted amazing, and my non-gluten-free hubby thought it tasted great as well. They have an extensive menu with something for everyone. They have a nice little bakery that has both regular and gluten free treats that look heavenly and taste even better. Must try if you're in the area!

My husband and I came here for breakfast on a holiday weekend. Surprisingly we were seated quickly and didn't have to wait. However, the service was pretty slow once we were seated. I had the Brussel Sprout Hash, it was delicious and a huge portion size. However, I expected there would be more Brussel Sprouts, there either wasn't very many or they were lost in all the potatoes, either way it was a very good breakfast. My husband had the French Toast which looked amazing and he enjoyed it. We had a long road trip ahead of us so we grabbed a cookie and peanut butter bar to go which were amazing and very rich.

My wife and I stopped here for breakfast on our way to San Juan island. As soon as we got there we saw it was a little busy so I took that as a good sign. I had the breakfast bowl and it man was it really good! The biscuits were soft and the potatoes were good. Great service and nice people. If you're out this way you have to stop in for breakfast! They also have a little bakery so cookies, scones etc are available as a pre or post meal snack.

Some places are worth traveling to another city for, this is one of them. Came here around 10 am and there was a wait, as expected. The wait was only about 15 minutes which isn't bad for a great breakfast spot. We were seated and asked about drinks as per usual. Coffee was constantly refilled, however whatever never was. Ordered the Chicken Apple Sausage and Roasted Pepper scramble for about $12. Tons of potatoes and good portion of egg scramble with plenty of sausage. Food was just warm, with a couple hotter areas. Emily ordered the original house pancakes. Came with a large piece of chicken Apple sausage and three pancakes. Both were great! Overall great experience, food was delicious and prices were typical of a higher end breakfast place. Only issues were the eggs and potatoes weren't warm enough, never asked for refills, and some prices were a bit high. Excellent breakfast!

Pretty good breakfast and reasonable prices. It was very busy but did not have to wait too long. Nice atmosphere. The blackberry pie was the best I've ever had.

Wow. This is a great place for breakfast. Had the best hash ever(Brussels sprouts) and I have never liked hash. The pastry shop has a great selection of Danishes and scones.

Great place for breakfast or lunch check out the menu online. I had oatmeal that was served with a choice of brown sugar toasted coconut or raisins or all the above served with wheat toast slice of pineapple slice of orange and a slice of watermelon. It was great. Nice to be able to sit outside I can see where bees could become an issue and they had some bee trappers around the outside of the restaurant. Coffee was good.

Great food! We only had breakfast, but it was delicious and we were served in a timely manner. I would definitely tell others about this place and would love to try lunch or dinner.

The yogurt was good the granola was excellent but I don't understand why they do not have fresh berries when they're available on every corner in this wonderful little town The best they can offer were frozen blueberries?? Really??

  • Kristin G.

Yum! My coffee was delicious and kept hot and full. I ordered an omelette, which was yummy and the ingredients were fresh, but I wish I had ordered a cinnamon roll or the oatmeal, after seeing other peoples plates! Maybe the solution is to order both! The potatoes that came with the omelette were sooooo delicious!

Calico Cupboard Old Town Cafe and Bakery Anacortes, Washington Ordered: Breakfast Buritto with the tortilla on the side I first want to mention that this restaurant closes at 3pm. There's two hour parking on the street in front of this restaurant however if you don't want to be rushed there's free customer parking in a lot behind the restaurant with no time restrictions. Although my meal didn't have a stand out "wow factor" it did not taste bad at all. The breakfast potatoes had grilled onions mixed in them and that offered added flavor. My meal tasted fresh and on the healthy side. The service is great and accommodating. I was checked on several times by the wait staff. I would dine here again but I would order a different dish.

Delicious pasties and cinnamon rolls, but the coffee is poor and the barista was painful to watch- took her 25 minutes to make 3 cappuccinos. Get the pastries, but skip the coffee

The service was not the best... But the food was great! I had a almond croissant and it was delicious! I recommend this place! It was my second time there and I would come again. By the way don't be seated at the back left hand corner. The bench was uncomfortable... We removed the cushion so that helped!

  • Cecelia C.

Oh my goodness this is the best breakfast place to go to!!! I can tell that their food is homemade and it's good quality! It made me feel like I was at home. I will defiantly come back!

Peaceful morning breakfast. Friendly service and some good gluten free options, they even were able to show me the ingredients for their GF breads. The standard egg, meat, potatoes breakfast was $11.99. Recommend their chicken sausage.

  • Chris S.

This place was great! All of the ingredients were super high quality and the service was excellent. We were in and out in under 45 minutes with full bellies and smiles on our faces. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a great breakfast.

Place was packed on a Sun at 1 pm. It was slow to get a seat and food to the table was slow but the servers were friendly and quick to attend. We ordered the Tree Branch Ranch (vegetarian), roast beef dip, fish tacos and the Sunshine burger. Everything was delicious. The dip was one of the best we've ever tasted. Would be nice to have fries instead of potato chips as the side but oh well. We also had the salted caramel brownie and the raspberry rhubarb pie. Both are a must a la mode. They have great tasting coffee as well. Well worth a stop here on your way to or from the ferries.

World's most expensive mediocre lunch. $28 for a hamburger, a turkey sandwich and a glass of iced tea. That was without the tip. 1/4 pounder with chesse and some chips Turkey made by a second grader. All the filling was on 1/2 of the sandwich. The other 1/2 was bread and mayo and tomato. Service was okay.

Seldom have I been more disappointed in a restaurant as I was with this one. Ordered the famous turkey pot pie. What arrived was a Finley chopped filling topped by a very sorry excuse for a crust soggy fatty and limp mess. I pointed this to the waitress and was informed that was how it always is. I did not eat it and when it appeared on the bill I asked for it to be removed. Was again informed that was how it always is. My tough luck. Guess a microwave ruined crust is the quality of service and food here. Go across the street to dads

So much good food. The atmosphere is real nice and the staff were great. The breakfast came it was amazing. Well, mine was. My buddy was not as blown away by his. They were both huge portions, though. There are also a lot of great looking baked goods to choose from when you're done to take on the road.

    (4)
  • Abbie B.

Delicious heaping portions! The breakfast burrito was stuffed with goodness and the potatoes rancheros came with really fresh pico de gallo. Yum. I'd return to try the cinnamon rolls and cinnamon roll French toast!

  • Greg O.

We've been here before and thought we would give it another chance. We didn't even get seated let alone order. Despite asking to be seated outside where there were plenty of open tables ... only one was occupied, we were told that we had to wait until everybody ahead of us that wanted to be seated inside were seated first. Huh? I can't understand the logic behind that policy. So rather than filling empty tables they watched us walk out the door. Management needs to have better procedures than those in place now. We won't be back again. Thanks for the lousy service.

  • Chris R.

great baked goods and yummy sandwiches. I am a much bigger fan of the Mt. Vernon one though as i just find it to be more inviting. To me, I just feel like the Anacortes one needs a permanent hostess to greet people. Walking into a crowded restaurant where you write your name on a notepad without any recognition you are there...or any idea of how long the wait is and no chance of stopping any staff to get to ask is a bit frustrating. It isnt a warm and inviting estblishment until you are seated. Our server was wonderful and friendly, the food is tasty, but the stale atmosphere from when you walk in to when you are seated is what always makes me think twice about coming back again. Of course...just my humble opinion.

What a great cafe! Excellent menu, quick service, friendly staff, and comfortable ambiance. We ate here for breakfast after getting off the morning ferry from Shaw island. The menus is full of interesting entrees (even has Migas!) and the food was delicious. Very family friendly, casual vibe. Awesome baked goods and coffee too!

Busy, busy place! Delicious Foods! Friendly Waitstaff! Close to the Marina. I almost always order the Seafood Eggs Benedict. Some outdoor seating. This is a noisy, happy, fun place for a meal. Homey decor. Quality Baked Goods. Good Coffee. FIVE STARS!

We visited this adorable little cafe for breakfast on Sunday before a wrestling tournament at the high school. We got there when it was just starting to get a little crowded and didn't wait more than 15 minutes for a table. The staff was very nice and the food was absolutely delicious. They had HUGE pastries! I ordered banana coconut cakes... I would have them every day if I could! Delicious! All three of my children ate their food until they couldn't eat anymore. As we saw the crowd getting larger, we noticed that they handled them beautifully with seating times and service. Best part was that everything was organic! The only slight downfall was that things were a little pricey. However, I would definitely visit again despite slightly higher prices.

Cute, cheery place! Shortly after we were seated abt 9 am the line was out the door! I had the scrambled eggs with cream cheese & smoked salmon-right up my alley & YUMMY!!!!! Hubby had captain crunch French toast! Bacon was very good! Service was pretty good. One of the gals that appeared to be more of a helper seemed not happy to be there & didn't smile even once (hopefully they don't share tips). But our real waitress was very nice. I'd def go back if in the area again.

Some of the beat breakfast I have ever had. The decor is cool too all the tables are older solid wood dining room tables nothing matches but it's comfortable. We had a large party they accommodated us quickly. I would recommend any of the hash. I tried 3 different ones and they where delicious. The buttermilk waffle was also top notch. If I am back in Anacortes o will most definatly stop here again.

Now I know what it's like to eat in a nursing home cafeteria. This must be the place to take Grandma for brunch in Anacortes. The wait was long and the food was bad. The cost was atrocious considering the quality. The service was mediocre. I did skip dessert because I was afraid that this place might ruin cake and/or pie for me. I have no idea why this place gets such good reviews.

Remarkable hot spiced cider, fun family atmosphere and friendly service. Welcomed by a couple cases of tantalizing desserts and pastries at the front of the restaurant. Good, diverse menu of soups, sandwiches, all day breakfast and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Got the morning glory omelette which had the right combo of my fav ingredients: bacon, eggs, cheese, sour cream and avocado with a side of red potatoes and multigrain homemade toast with homemade raspberry jam. Though the omelette was great in theory, practically it tasted like it was missing some key spices/seasonings. I added ketchup and hot sauces but didn't make the difference it needed to. Bread was fresh as was jam. Overall a satisfactory brunch. If I return here I'll probably stick to a dessert or pastry and beverage.

They should stick to just being a bakery. It took forever to get our food and we only ordered soup sandwiches and a garden salad. The soup was okay, the turkey sandwich was very basic and the hamburger was flavorless. Disappointed, will go somewhere else the next time we're in town.

  • Lisa T.

Our lunch was delicious and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I had a shrimp and avocado sandwich that was so very scrumptious, as well as beef and cabbage soup--very satisfying. The baking in here looks so tasty, and I regret not trying one of those cinnamon buns. This place had a great vibe, and an all day breakfast menu!

  • Stan Y.

Love the place. Fantastic American style breakfast. Like their 'Grandma's Hot Cake', which is the best pancake I've ever tried. Great size and affordable. We had four senior and one kid in our table, and the waitress is super nice. And their bakery is superb. Definitely will visit there again.

Fresh bake cinnamon rolls are what you should have. The place was packed for breakfast but I didn't want to wait so I grabbed a fresh bake cinnamon roll to go. They have a lot of different fresh bake goods to choose from. Nice size too.

This is my parents' favorite cafe in town, the family eats breakfast here quite often and I'm glad I was able to enjoy the brunch with them during this visit to Anacortes. It's a cute cafe with a variety of foods, and breakfast served all day. The online menu varied from the actual menu at the table, some of the foods I had been looking forward to trying were taken off the menu but it did not ruin the experience for me. I'd recommend any of the hashes, they are filling and delicious and great to split, or you can order a half size and it would be plenty. I ordered the salmon scramble, which was good, but not great if you love smoked salmon it is not what you would hope it would be. Great lattes and expresso as well. Good prices and friendly staff, however staff was a little disorganized with the checkin list, as you sign in for your table yourself on a notepad that has very little organization. Wait was not too bad for a party of 7, we waited only about 15 minutes on a Sunday at noon. It did take a little longer than I expected for the food to come out, or for our coffees to be brought to the table.

Don't plan on getting much Italian sausage in the scramble., Three small pieces.

A little pricey, but it's a small tourist town so to be expected. The food was wonderful, huge portions. I had the homemade granola, fruit, and yogurt. My Gma had a giant breakfast burrito, she loved it. We were in a hurry, and they were very accommodating.

Absolutely a great place to get breakfast if you are a simple pastry and coffee kind of person. However I did order an vegetarian egg omelet my second time there and it was fantastic. Nice people, mellow atmosphere and groovy people.

The nicest wait staff. Good for kids (coloring/books/varied kids menu). Like to sit by the window and watch the town walk by. Have been there several times and always really good food. Wonderful gluten free selection. Not cheap, but not so expensive either. Very relaxing place to dine. Will be there again.

  • Sarah A.

The omelette that I got was very lack-luster. No real flavor at all. When we walked in, it smells like mold to me, like almost to the point where I wanted to leave, but once we were sat I couldn't smell it anymore. We should have left when I smelled that, but my husband wanted to try, but he wasn't a fan either.

It's a good place for breakfast and we have been going here over the years when we are in town. Today we must have had good timing as the wait was super short. The older hostess was kinda rude for no reason. So minus a star. Then we waited for about 15 minutes before anyone took our order - minus a star there. Thankfully our waitress was super nice. After that it was smooth sailing and the coffee was great! There are tasty gluten free options, the bacon was crisp and the steel cut oats were perfectly cooked. The side of fruit is an upgrade to what most places serve- think a slice if grapefruit, pineapple slice and quarter of a Banana. They have gf cookies and my fave carrot cake! I'll have to go back to see if it's as good as mine.

The Calico Cupboard is a fantastic place for breakfast and brunch. The homemade pastries, especially the cinnamon buns, are unbelievably good and generous in size. You may think you'll eat only a portion but the whole thing disappears before your eyes almost by magic. The egg dishes are great as is the service. We particularly liked the home kitchen table dining experience. The servings are not too large. There is outside dining for warm weather. In addition to the cinnamon buns there is a variety of other homemade pastries that look absolutely wonderful. This is a restaurant worth driving out of the way for. We found it by accident walking around Anacortes and feel it was serendipity at its best. We'll be back.

Wonderful place to stop and grab a bite, especially breakfast should you be coming off or going on an early morning ferry to one of the San Juan islands. Their kind staff, good food, handful of gluten free options (for Celiacs they warn that their GF products are made in same facility as their bakery products) and delicious coffee will have us coming back. The oatmeal is how oatmeal should taste and the bottomless coffee had us going for 3 cups. If you come totting little ones, they are happy to accommodate your needs. If you're in Anacortes stop by and check it out for yourself.

The first thing we ever had from Calico Corner was their chocolate peanut butter pie. It's amazing. I've never had homemade chocolate peanut butter pie, but this seems like it would taste like something your grandma could whip up. Since the pie was so good, my husband and I stopped in to try their food and everything we had was really great. It's a tad on the more expensive side, but not enough to turn people off. Definitely a place I recommend to anyone looking for a good "home-cooked meal."

Traveling through Anacortes from the Ferry Station on Christmas Eve....starving! We all know that the Ferry food is non-existent these days! Closed, closed, closed, OMG it's open stop here! They could have served cardboard with gravy on it and I probably would have eaten it...but no they served incredible food!!! There were a few others in the restaurant but not a lot. Server came right away. Water and drinks were brought. We had a mix of breakfast and lunch items, some of us in our party love breakfast for any meal of the day. Bacon and cheese omelet, clam chowder bread bowl, roasted butternut squash hash with bacon, and roasted butternut squash with mushroom quesadilla was ordered. Oh yeah, and one of those cinnamon rolls that is the size of your head. Food came quickly and was delicious and the flavors of the cinnamon roll were as big as it was in size. Incredible. Very impressed with the number of gluten free items on the menu as well. Well done all around!

Love the cozy, homey feel of this place! We spent the day looking at the tulips in Mt. Vernon and drove through here along the way and stopped for a late lunch. The service was good - our server was pretty attentive and sweet. Didn't really notice anything remarkable one way or another which I guess is a good thing. I was feeling under the weather when I got here and wanted a nice, crisp, green salad. I ordered the grilled vegetable salad with chicken. The chicken had some odd pieces of fat left on which put me off a little but I scraped them off and it was fine. There were a ton of grilled veggies which were scrumptious - zucchini, eggplant, roasted red peppers, and avocado - all tasted fresh and not too greasy with oil. I found it unusual that the salad didn't come with any dressing but I requested some champagne vinaigrette which was great, light and tasty and not too creamy. Save room for dessert because the baked goods here look delicious! I had a lemon bar and loved it - would definitely recommend it. This place looks cuter than a lot of other places in the area - I'd recommend it for a decent lunch.

We stopped here twice while on vacation and driving into/through Anacortes. The place is cute with a distinct country kitsch theme, but the food caters to a wide variety of palates, including those who are on a gluten-free diet. The four of us ran the spectrum from "meat and potatoes" to "eats meat fairly rarely and subsists mainly on vegetables" and we all found several dishes that we greatly enjoyed. The coffee was quite tasty, and the service was incredibly friendly; we were really made to feel welcome while in a new town. While a little pricey, everything was fresh, tasty, and worth the cost.

Cozy place in downtown Anacortes. Ordered the egg burrito with a side of potatoes. Really good! My wife ordered the french toast and liked it. They also have excellent baked goods. Grabbed a molasses cookie on the way out. Yum!

The best breakfast place in town. A fantastic gluten free carrot cake. And yes other choices of GF. Butternut squash hash is a favorite of mine. Yummy! We stop nearly every time we come off island.

I'm not one to complain about my meal at a restaurant; it is rare for me to do so, but my lunch at Calico Cupboard left a lot to be desired. The roast turkey on hearty grain bread for $10.99 tasted stale--the bread was dry; the turkey was dry and there was little of it; and the lettuce had brown spots on the edges which I cut off. The sandwich was mostly lettuce and tomato. It was a real disappointment, especially since I seldom eat out. However, the service was good.

My family had breakfast here while on a camping trip at Deception Pass State Park. We had a nice big table in the corner, which was great because our kids can be pretty lively. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful including recommending our kids split a smoothy between them - even the ones on the kids menu are too big for one person! We ordered a variety of the things, but the standout items for me were the pancakes, which were deliciously fluffy but not too sweet, and the hash I had. I can't remember the name exactly, except that it hinted at the endorsement of a male relative of some kind, but it had potatoes, ham, scrambled egg, spinach, onions, peppers and parmesan and feta cheeses sprinkled on top. Delicious. Remember to sign in as you arrive, though! Just lining up isn't good enough.

We recently bought a project boat that's on the hard in Anacortes, and stumbled upon this place two weeks ago. Wouldn't ordinarily go to a place that's decorated "country farmhouse," but we're glad we did, and we've come back three times now. The savory dishes are really very tasty: flavorful, perfectly textured gravy and bisquits (I like the herb mix, but I'm not a B&G expert); country-style potoatoes (boiled--then scalloped sliced and pan cooked with onions); nicely meated bacon; fresh veggies in the omlettes. Their toast is their own bread, and even the jam they serve with toast is amazing. My reason for coming back is the generous helping of bacon, the farm fresh eggs, and the generally unprocessed ingredients. One thing that's keeping my rating from five stars is the inconsistency of the quality of the cooking: once potatoes were perfect, once overly salty, once unsalted and somewhat mushy. Over-easy eggs aren't really "easy", and one apparently has to order "soft poached" (!!) in order to get a runny yolk in a poached egg. Other reviews tell of chronic egg difficulties! We're going to make Calico a daily habit while we're working on the boat--and I can't wait to try their chowder!

Place is always packed. The food and service are just ok. Prices are typical for this town. I feel that the place needs a thorough cleaning. It has a thin layer of grime that is not appealing. Also, I think this place relies a little too heavily on its reputation. They need to do something to spruce it up a little. Last time we went there they obviously saw us standing there, but sat around finishing a conversation in the kitchen before seating us. They tried to put us at a rickety table in the middle of the room when there were obviously nicer tables along the periphery by the windows. We had to ask to sit at a window table.

Calico Cupboard is a good step up from typical small-town fare: scrambles with Kalamata olives and feta, hash with lots of roasted veggies, banana coconut pancakes, quiches, a waffle of the day, and a pastry case full of cookies, massive cinnamon rolls of a few varieties, and pies and cakes galore. The man, the dog, and I stopped in on our way back from neighboring Guemes Island to grab breakfast before sadly beginning the trek back to Seattle.... He deemed his Greek scramble okay (but would have been better with spinach); my blueberry pancakes were pretty good. Calico Cupboard's pancakes are a tasty hybrid of cornmeal, oatmeal, and buttermilk, creating a substantial, slightly earthy-sweet and fluffy breakfast treat. And filled with plump blueberries as well! It's great that several of the breakfast options can be ordered with a side or fruit or without, and the pancakes all come in a short stack size, good for those a little afraid of a trayful of morning carbs. I was a little sad to see the extra charge for real maple syrup, though.... All in all, probably one of the better breakfast options in the area, with a fairly extensive menu which could satisfy more- to less-traditional breakfast eaters all. Plus spacious outdoor seating, and discounts on the day-old pastries and muffins. They go fast....

First of all, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very inviting. The breakfast was probably a four *, but including one of the best cinnamon rolls, that I have ever eaten as an appetizer, the rating jumps up to a 5*. We also got one of their peanut butter bars as a take out item, they are a 5* too. Would definitely return.

Best breakfast place in Anacortes. Like with most places in Anacortes, the prices seem higher than what they should be for what you get - but that is what we get for living in a sleepy island town. Everything is fresh and local. Their pastries are delectable. I always try to get something from the day old table and it tastes the same as a fresh one. The portions are usually more than enough for one person. The side of bacon is huge and should be shared if you value your heart health. I always get a carb dish of pancakes or french toast that I find enjoyable. For lunch the bbq chicken salad is my favorite. Again, with a huge portion I can easily take half home for dinner later in the day. Service is okay. I never know who my server is as it seems like at least 3 different people are helping my table. Don't forget to sign in when you arrive - even if there is no one else there they will still want you to sign the book.

Great food selection and quality. Really appreciate the thought they put into creating their menu selections. Not only are they one of the very few to serve vegetarian sausage but they make their own, as well as veggie burgers. Got to love those who strive to do special things.

Stopped on our way from the San Juan Islands ferry to Seattle in Anacortes and had fabulous breakfast. Delicious food and prompt service even though the restaurant was very busy. Portions are huge so you might want to consider sharing. The kitchen will split the plates, if you ask. Great takeout bakery, too.

I usually go to the La Conner location but decided to try this after getting off of the ferry because it's challenging to park in La Conner. I found a space right away and went in. Since I was a single, I was seated at the worst table, a table for two squeezed in where a table shouldn't be. I was seated less than a foot from the diner next to me who was facing away. Unfortunately he was wearing a strongly scented perfume or something and thankfully left quickly. It was also so tight that if the table behind me would have filled, we would have had to move the table so both of us could sit back to back. The service was good. I usually order the huevos rancheros but I noticed they had a benedict made with corn tortillas and I tried that. The texture of the dish was mushy overall and under seasoned. They did have a flyer on the table for gluten free bakery offerings. The cheesecake was available, but I got the cookie. It was delicious and moist, but fell apart. Good thing it came in its own baggie. I appreciate the effort to offer the gluten free options.

The food is pretty tasty but we won't ever go back. We were literally snubbed (after I smiled at) by the hostess who looked at us twice and just ignored us, even though she could put two and two together and note that there were no names on the waiting list. Bieng our first time there, we didn't know to sign-in. That rudeness really ruined our breakfast.

Had lunch while walking around anacortes. My aunt had the BBQ chicken salad and said it was good. I had the clam chowder and sandwich the bread on the sandwich was homemade but dry. The soup was good but needed a larger serving. We took a cocholate chip cookie and bery muffin and cinamon roll home. The cookie was delicious. Cinamon roll was eaten the next day and was nothing to ride home to. My aunt loved her berry muffin. I would recomend if you in anacortes.

Good place for breakfast. Nothing special and a little pricy.

My friend and I both had the half roast beef sandwich and cup of split pea soup. It sounds so ordinary, but it was the best sandwich I've ever had. Thin roast beef, caramelized onions, havarti cheese, BBQ sauce, wasabi mayo, and grilled with a parmesan crust on the fresh bread. Wow! We then ordered dessert; she had a brownie/cookie concoction and loved it. I swooned over my lemon doodle cookie. It was so good that I bought a second one to take home to my teenager who dispatched it in record time. Yum!

We stopped here while in Anacortes for the day, looking for some healthy food. We were pleasantly surprised to see all of the organic and natural foods choices. They had a large tea list, and the menu had something for everyone. My husband and I opted for roasted turkey sandwiches on multigrain bread - sooo good! Our son ordered their clam chowder in a bread bowl. The staff is friendly and courteous, but this is not a speedy place. Sign yourself in at the door, as they are full (always a sign of a good place to eat). Cute place with takeout bakery items and coffee available at eh counter. Will definitely visit again our next pass through!

Best place I've eaten in a long time. It was tasty, fresh, and had many healthy and gluten free menu options. The gluten-free waffle is amazing!

It looked like it was going to be great. The decor was very cool and we watched the July 4th parade go by as we had our breakfast. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. However, both my wife and I had nasty potatoes that were inedible due to being under cooked I think. Everything else was good though.

open sundays! doesn't seem like a big deal but we had walked the main street that this place is on and calico was literally one of a handful of places open... i get it, it's part of the small town feel. prices are a tad high but you get a good portion of food and they're concious about using local/nw friendly foods with what they can-- i got their croque madame-- very yummy with the crispy ham, though i don't think their mornay sauce (never had before) was anything special. they had tempting specials i almost sprung for, that day's was an omelette in hollandaise sauce but i decided to go for something i'd never tried before. service is friendly and prompt, we had more than one person helping us but there was no negative about it and our coffee cups were constantly filled. very homey feel & friendliness-- a good get together spot especially good was the country style potatoes and the bread that was in my dish and the toast that came with my bf's breakfast. the potatoes were crispy, hot, and fresh, not like they had been cooked in a huge batch earlier and left under heat lamps, and it's always nice to have homemade bread without the work. we were there at 11:30 and they were still going with a breakfast menu, and had switched to a lunch menu with sandwiches by 12 so if you want more than breakfast options you probably should get here after noon. i definitely have no problem returning

Great place for breakfast in Anacortes. We had a couple of Mexcian inspired dishes that surprisingly had some decent flavor and spice! My wife and I are from Arizona so we really miss that. It wasn't like at home but it was pretty darn good. The coffee was great and the pastries were fantastic. Service was also quite good. Without question we'll stop by here again next time we are in town.

I've now been to Calico at least 10 times. What I have found from ordering about the menu is that the bread/carb type dishes are excellent. The pancakes are great, the cinnamon roles incredible, and the cinnamon roll french toast terriffic. I have been horribly dissapointed though in their egg dishes. They seem to lack any flavor and I'm always adding on salt and pepper. I was also very dissapointed in the biscuits and gravy as it had way too much of some random herb that did not add to the flavor at all. (Since I originally wrote this I ordered them again just to check, and yep, they are just "off" in my opinion on the B&G. I grew up in the south where B&G are king, this misses the mark at Calico) The bacon and sausage are pretty good. My wife likes the omelets as they aren't greasy at all. Overall a good breakfast (not great), but I recommend things like pancakes/french toast/cinnamon rolls. As to the service: well it's typical Anacortes service: friendly but slow. When you walk in write your name on the wait list and hang out. There is no hostess so don't wait for one :)

We stay in Anacortes all the time but had never frequented Calico Corner. The atmosphere, service and food was outstanding. Will definitely be returning there.

Arrive early, or there will be a wait. That's a good sign that this is a good place to eat. It was a cold, windy, dreary day, but the friendly, warm interior was very inviting. My husband ordered the sampler and rated the pancake one of the best he had eaten. They were light and tender and one pancake, one egg and a huge slab of ham was more than enough breakfast. Our daughter ordered the banana coconut pancakes which looked fantastic. The syrup topping served with them was killer and could have eaten it right out of the pitcher. I had the one eyed sailer which is fried bread with a hole punched in the middle and a perfectly cooked egg inside. I haven't had fried bread for years and this was crunchy and delish. For a Monday morning, this place was packed. They are located just a couple blocks up from the marina, so a lot of boaters walk up for good eats. My only complaint was that the table was sticky and our syrup pitcher dripped, so can see where the sticky came from. The tables are antique wood tables and they aren't able to wash them thoroughly. I would have appreciated a paper placemat to place my silverware on.

Quaint family run restaurant in downtown Anacortes. Perfect for a quick meal and a break from the cold. Dishes are nothing to write home about, but pastries are incredible, and service was very good!

We stopped off at Calico Cupboard on our way to see some whales. We were running a little late since we were trying to catch the 9 am ferry. We had to order/eat/pay in about 45 minutes with two young kids...but we made it! The orders came quickly and hot...and the food was delicious. Warning: Portions are big! The kids pancakes were the size of dinner plates. The french toast was enormous...but so yummy. We were definitely ready for our ferry ride. The mocha was a bit on the sweet side but nothing to complain about. Next time, we may order to go and eat near the ferry building...

They may have great pastries, but they make a terrible teriaki chicken wrap. They really need to get out and eat somewhere else, so they know how Japanese food tastes.

Good food, though I was pretty unimpressed with their breakfast. I had the breakfast burrito, which was decent, but was also WAY overpriced. I feel bad about giving only 3 stars, but if I pay $11 for a burrito it better wow me (or at the very least it should fill me up). Sadly the portion sizes did not justify the high price of the dishes. I must say that I will likely give Calico Cupboard one more shot at a 4th star. The next time I visit I'm going to see if their hamburgers really justify their $12+ pricetag. Something tells me that I will once again leave unimpressed.

So I haven't been to their other locations but I've been coming to this place for awhile. Everytime we're in Anacortes, my dad insist on this place. There cinnamon buns are huge and to die for, expecially the apple cinnamon bun. It's not just pastries, everything there- breakfast or lunch- is delicious. The staff is friendly and fast. Just can't say enough.
