Are here while we where in the hospital for a friend. Extremely convenient. And the food was amazing. Will absolutely eat here again.

Usually one of my favorite places to grab "near-real" Mexican food. The service and food can be considered "inconsistent". I would say about 70/30. 70 being good/great food & service. My "beef" is that the burritos & chimichangas are not filled evenly nor fully. Too much tortilla and not enough beef to warrant the price. This may be okay for people who don't know any better, but I am Hispanic and a Texan so ....... C'mon Man!! Don't become an overpriced & stingy Taco Bell. Service: they were busy this day but nonetheless, I ordered guacamole to eat w my chips and, sadly, it shows up with the main dishes. FYI ...My last visit was 7-14-2015 Again, they are fairly inconsistent but lean on the better side of the food/service spectrum. I'll be going there again, but I'll do it with my fingers crossed!

Ate here while waiting for our clothes to finish washing at the laundromat down the street. Generous portions. Average flavors. Friendly workers. Large menu. Glum atmosphere. Super-casual. Butthole-burning salsa which was deceptively not-too-spicy going in.

This is a must stop Tako joint. Food truck/authentic style with spicy carrots in the bar fresco...Cannot recommend enough.

Yes, yes, yes. Yum, yum, yum! What did it want? A darn tasty meal before our late ferry. It delivered. House made chips & salsa, giant door they open when it is lovely out (like tonight), and a chile relleno in the top tier. Excellent refried beans, fresh guacamole, nice pico de gallo. My husband had the carne asada - and happily ate that all up too. The wet burrito & fresh made churros at the next table looked great too. If you just want tasty, well made Mexican food, in a nice place with friendly service - come here for a happy tummy.

It's fast and good Mexican. The specials are always worth a try and I love their salsa.

It is hard to understand how this place gets 4 and 5 star ratings when the food I got was so bad. Granted it was only one meal, but it was a burrito. If you can't make a burrito I don't see how you can make anything else well either. I had the burrito 10--the menu says it is huge--it is not. I mean it is big, but not that big. It cost nearly $11.00! (with tax) for a burrito that I can get in any one of a dozen places on the west coast for between $4 & $6, and they are much better than this one. I got steak, of which there was not much. There were a mountain of onions though and they left an awful taste in my mount. Half an hour later I can still taste them. The burrito was REALLY greasy. It is as if the cook is bored with his job. One other point. I got it to go and the small container of salsa (which was good bty) was half full. For $11.00 they skimp on salsa? Geeze, I won't be going back there anytime soon.

Great food, great service!!! Outdoor seating. The employees here go above and beyond. Very friendly.

If you are from Cali. or any other border states, this is not the authentic taco shop you are looking for. Somewhat Americanized. The food is average, good, and much better then the competition.. The only thing that would be "authentic" is the disappointing fact they insist on cleaning with pine-sol. Every time we have been there (6 times) they are cleaning with this overpowering cleaner. Even an hour or more before closing. It is so strong smelling, your food begins to taste like pine-sol. Yuk, Yuk, Yuk. We have been forced to leave our food, unfinished there on the table. Perhaps if enough other people ask, they could save the pine-sol until they are closed.

We have been coming to Agave for gosh....a couple of years now I think! We often visit family in the San Juans and this is where we stop on our way home nearly every time. It is consistently SO good. Last night we stopped on our way home, and while we did wait at the drive through window longer than we ever have, as soon as you take a bite it's like you don't even care that you had to wait! If we had waited and the food was so-so, that'd be one thing, but it was as good as ever. And don't even get me started on how good their salsa is. Seriously, if they bottled that stuff, I would stockpile my pantry with it. It's spicy, so you have to like spice, but it is so fresh and so delicious. I just wish Seattle had a place like this! Thanks for all the yummy enchiladas and burritos. YUM!

I'm new in this town decided to go check what's out there. I tryed the fish tacos, they were good nothing crazy. Came out fast. They were a little pricey but nothing crazy. The place is a small family friendly again nothing crazy about it, staff very polite. I give the fish tacos a 3.5 also they got a drive thru I havent seen that

We called in our order from the ferry dock after a long day of waiting in line to get off the island. We arrived right before closing and practically inhaled our food. Carnitas so perfectly smoked and delicious guacamole made our burritos some off the best we've had. Very filling. We hadn't eaten all day but could barely finish our meal. Lots of food for very reasonable prices. Well done, Agave! You made our day!

  • Kim S.

Food was excellent! They bring it out fast, too! There is something in their chips and salsa that makes it so fantastic! I wish I wasn't so full from their huge portions. I'd have more of their chips.

  • Julie B.

Cute little place and my hope was for authentic. Not happening. I had the fish taco which was average but the sour cream sauce wasn't so good. But I make my own white fish taco sauce so I'm pretty picky. The cod was ok. The corn tortilla itself was pretty good. Sage had the chicken burrito...huge and $10. I had a bite and wouldn't order it for myself. But she gobbled it up.

I love this place!! We eat here all the time and I have always enjoyed the food! Best Mexican food in anacortes! The staff is great! The food is delicious! Burrito 10 is my favorite. It's always ready quickly the salsa is super good and the have warm fresh chips.

Anacortes is a nice little town, but I wouldn't call it super pretty, nor walking friendly. Businesses and hotels are quite far spread out, and on the weekend there is not much foot-traffic bustle to guide you to a random find. I discovered Agave via Yelp, of course. I actually drove past it twice, thinking that it was closed. Not a single car parked outside, nor in the parking lot. It's several blocks away from the "downtown" area, but on the main drag. It's a good thing it was open. I was starving. I had been driving for a while. I needed a snack a few hours before meeting friends for dinner. This place is tidy, clean, and not fancy. Very friendly service. We were offered a free plate of chips with salsa while we waited, which was a nice touch. I opted for a steak burrito for $8.50. It was huge! See pic. They have an even bigger one for $10 called the Dos Dedos. My burrito's beef was salty, the rice was overly flavoured and it was a little difficult to finish. I made it about 80% of the way before giving up. Perhaps I'm used to the new wave of local style here that has an emphasis on different and fresh ingredients, and where getting full isn't the only goal. Agave has more of a fast-food feel, which I only accept when I'm out of town and hungry. Which I was.

Best tacos anywhere. Recently moved to SoCal and can't find tacos to compare to agave! Fast, friendly service. Drive-thru is super convenient. Love the chips and salsa, the burrito agave (HUGE), chicken tacos, and guac!

I've been coming to this place for years. It's always been fine, though I've balked at the fact that they call it a taqueria. Yes, they have tacos and burritos, but they also have all the enchiladas and saucy/cheesy glop the other Mexican restaurants serve. But I think I might be done with this place, which is sad because it's the only halfway-decent Mexican food in Anacortes. I went in last night because I was craving a burrito. The first thing I noticed is they had a new menu board. They had raised their prices. Again. The burrito I normally get, the ranchero burrito, a basic rice and beans burrito, had gone up to $7.40. The veggie burrito had also gone up to a baffling $9.40. Strangely, the wet veggie burrito, which by reading the menu was identical to the non-wet except for the ADDITION of sauce, was $0.10 cheaper! A single tamale, granted I assume served with rice and beans, is $7.40! After tax, nearly every dish in the place is over $10! If one were to go visit Burlington, the closest competition in terms of service and atmosphere would be Taquera Los Jarritos, aka Tacos Guaymas. Their plain veggie burrito, equivalent to the $9.40 that I had last night, costs $6.50. And that one tastes better, and they offer better table salsa. It'd be a cost savings to drive the 20mi. for that. The atmosphere or service does not counter the price. Agave Taqueria is clean compared to many other places, but it's still just cafeteria-style dining. The staff is friendly, but it always feels smarmy and disingenuous. "Hola amigo!!!" I waited over 15 minutes for my burrito to come up, while other customers came, ordered, and left in the interim. I think they really want to be a regular ol' family Mexican place, but their association with Esteban's prevents that. Anacortes needs a proper taqueria. A limited but solid menu, prices in line with the competition (both locally and throughout the west...because SF), with a decent salsa bar. That's really not too much to ask.

Great place to grab food for the ferry. Fresh guacamole, salsa, & warm tortilla chips. Delicious chicken quesadilla. Carnitas wrapped burritos just okay. Will stick with chicken or ground beef from now on.

Not my favorite. I was hoping for more authentic taco shop mexican food. Instead it was very bland. Sorry.

I had a pork burrito which was moist with just a small portion of rice and beans inside. Well seasoned and NOT too hot. Wife had the chicken carnitas and the chicken breast was moist. A really good meal.

Horrible place to eat. The food is not good at all. I ordered 3 tacos, when the tacos were brought out, I noticed all three tacos had beans on the tacos...I mean who puts beans on a taco?? And the taquitos look and taste like the cheap frozen kind you buy at the grocery store. And the soda glasses are dirty. This place should be shut down.....don't waste your time or money...

  • Lee L.

Came here based on the yelp reviews and it was pretty accurate. The food was really flavorful but the fried ice cream was mouth watering. The reason I gave this 4 stars is because parts of the floors were wet and slippery. Granted they had rubber mats but it didn't cover other areas. I had to be extra careful not to slip (plus I'm really clumsy).

  • Wendy T.

I love hot days when they roll up the window. The food is amazing. I usually have the wet burrito. This is the second time in a week that I felt the need to eat here.

Stumbled across this place after a nice hike and swim in Anacortes. Our mission was Nachos and milkshakes after our exertion. Milkshakes were a success from down the street, and we high hopes for the nachos! They were good - the chips were crispy even though they were covered in plenty of toppings. I had the veggie nachos without sour cream, and they gave twice as much guac which was nice. The homemade salsa (I think homemade?) had a nice kick. I never thought I would say this in life, but there was way too much cheese on the nachos. I think that's really the only thing holding me back from giving this place more stars. The chips were drowning in a sea of cheese that ended up making me feel nauseated. Yes, I know I could have decided with my own will to not eat all the cheese in front of my face, but it's not easy you know.

Without a doubt the best Mexican in Anacortes, perhaps the best restaurant. The fish tacos were especially good.

  • Charlie L.

Satisfied but far from fabulous. Not sure what all the good yelp reviews are about - 4.5 stars with 55 reviews, you think you can't go wrong, but alas, I tried every taco they made, and was just minimally impressed. The fish taco was really kinda gross - it's fish bits pressed into a thin patty and pan fried (what the????) Growing up in Texas and having spent years near the California-Mexican border, I know a thing or two about tacos. I guess my standards are high, but they are easily satisfied by the resident food trucks in Seattle, so I don't think I'm impossible to please. This place is just not that good. Nice people, which is what saved them from a single star review. I wouldn't go there if I care about flavor. Sorry.

Wow. This place deserves it's rating. We've gone now two times and all of our food has been amazing. This is hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to and I am from Phoenix Arizona! The nachos are amazing and they use real cheese not cheese sauce (yay!). The burritos are huge and filled with obviously fresh ingredients. And as a bonus, the chicken is shredded not cubed! As you can tell I will definitely be visiting this place again. Frequently. Today.

This place is fantastic!! We went there for dinner and enjoyed the food very much-- very authentic and delicious. We especially appreciated the vegetarian options! Service was good. The portions are large. We will definitely eat here again when we are in Anacortes again

Have been here twice now, and had great experiences both times. The service friendly, and the food fast and delicious! The shrimp tacos and burritos: so flavorful! Will definitely be a new favorite of ours on our way to/from the ferry.

We enjoyed our meals at Agave. Not the best Mexican food I have had but I am from LA so there is a lot to choose from there. I felt they are a tad over priced for the dining experience.

Wow! Tasty Mexican food in Washington! Go after you arrive from the ferry :-)

  • Mark H.

A take & go place with a few inside & outside tables. Service was fast & friendly. The chicken flautas were very good. Homemade flour tortilla stuffed with spicy chicken & baked instead of fried. Came with generous portions of re-fried beans, rice & condiments. Salsa and chips were also good. Better then most of the Mexican food at home in Nashville.

I like this place alot and have eaten a wide variety of items. The tacos are great- I've had the pork, beef, chicken and fish. I liked them all. The salsa is above average and the pico de gallo is great. I also love their veggie burrito. It's a good consistent place to grab some fresh mexican food.

The fish tacos were really good. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Mexican joint in Washington, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'd definitely order this again. If I could I'd give this place closer to 4.5 stars.

We were looking for a place to eat on the way to the ferry and saw all the great options in this charming little town. Just by chance we decided on Agave and I'm glad we did - everytime we go to the States now we have to stop by this little taco place even though it is a bit of a drive off the main highway. I've had a few things on the menu, but now I basically come for the small soft tacos. I've tried all of them and my favorite is the fish - mainly because it is hard to find fish tacos in Vancouver that are not deepfried. I love them here - a light, healthy meal and everything always seems ridiculously cheap in the States when you're coming from Canada. The staff are great, the extras like the chips and salsa (although they could take it a little easier with the onions) that come with every meal are addictive, and I'm just sorry I don't live in Anacortes because otherwise I would be a regular here.

Fancy? Not really. Warm and inviting? Meh. Friendly service, amazing food every time, a great place to hit-up with your friends or family, take-out, dine-in, JARRITOS? Yes yes yes! This place is great for grabbing lunch, or if you just can't think of what to cook for dinner. They also have some crazy pico de gallo.

Love, love, loooove this place! Boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch while waiting for the ferry to go to San Juan Island (because Yelp recommended it, of course). Cute little place, definitely a favorite stop for people on the way to the ferry. We were greeted by a very friendly server who was all smiles and very helpful. I ordered a shrimp burrito and boyfriend ordered one of the platas, I forgot which one though. And MMMMM it was delicious!!!! The food was prepared in a short amount of time and we were given chips and salsa while we waited. Boyfriend would want me to add that the salsa was absolutely delicious and one of the best salsas he's ever had. I would have to agree that the salsa was quite delicious, and the chips were very fresh. This place was so good that when we came back into Anacortes after our stay at San Juan, we ate there again, which we normally wouldn't have done, because when you're on vacation, you should try out as many places as possible. But, we really couldn't help it. The second time around, I had the flautas and boyfriend had a wet burrito. Again, it was absolutely delicious. I wish Agave had a location here... although it would be a bit dangerous and I would have to ramp up my work out routine a lot more.

This place is so good! To start off, the cabbage pico de gallo was delicioussss. The flavors were well balanced and went well with both chips and the entrees. The chips were so crunchy yet light and the salsa was solid. I ordered the chile relleno dish which was really good and the rest of my family got enchiladas which were good but not amazing. Also, the workers were really nice and had great service. Overall, this is a place I would come to over and over again if I weren't a tourist!

Me and my friend stumbled upon this place while passing through Anacortes. I was craving some Mexican food and bam! We ended up here. Literally the BEST carne asada I've ever had. The meat is so tender and marinated so deliciously!! My friend got the infamous fish tacos, and those were pretty damn good as well. Too bad I'm from Seattle and can't go back to this place as often as I would like. Next time I am in Anacortes, I'm coming back for sure! Price is reasonable and staff was super friendly. The complimentary chips and salsa were also a good touch! I highly recommend this place!!

Excellent food and good service. Fish tacos were best I've had. My son ordered "Bob's Special" with shrimp enchiladas. He couldn't stop talking about how great they were. We also had the Tacos Al Carbon which was very good. Prices are HIGH for a counter order restaurant. My family of six ended up close to $100.

Stopped here for dinner after getting off the ferry and was surprised at how fresh and delicious their food was! The food came very fast--i was done eating before our ferry traffic had finished going by--and we'll certainly be back!

My friend and I got off the Anacortes-San Juan Islands ferry in search of food, and Mexican sounded good. We came into the restaurant with no idea if it was good or not. It had been completely empty when we pulled into the parking lot, but three other families pulled in right when we did as well. Ask the guy at the counter what goes into anything - he gives such a fantastic response it is bound to make anything sound good. I'm sure he could make poop sound delicious. He was incredibly friendly and nice and practically running from table to table to make sure everyone was doing ok. I was impressed by how fast the service was, even though the restaurant just received a huge rush of people at the same time. Made me super happy since I was so hungry Coming from SoCal, land of cheap Mexican food, I thought the food was about $1-2 more than I would have liked. But once I got the food, I didn't care. The service was just too good and food was pretty delicious. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who feels like eating Mexican

  • Paul H.

This is a great little gem. On warm days, the garage door opens the dining room to an exterior dining patio. Neat! More important is that the food is tasty. The masa harina used to make their tamales is world class with great texture and corn flavor over plenty of meat. Yummy tacos and quesadillas too. We stopped for lunch en route to Friday Harbor ferry and again when returning home after Independence Day. We're glad we did! We would recommend this restaurant to our friends and associates and will return upon our next opportunity!

We were originally going to try a local Japanese place but ended up here last minute. The food here is better than we have had in a long time Mexican food wise. The staff is nice, try the spicy sauce near the drinks to give your food better flavor you won't be disappointed

  • Edwin P.

This place is delicious! It has a wide selection of food to choose from. There is a huge wall of pictures showing what they have to offer as well as a side board that shows the specials for the day. I decided to have some steak taco plate thing. It had 3 toacos filled with steak as well as rice and beans on the place with some pico and guac. The food was prepared rather quickly which I was not expecting and was fabulous! I'm definitely going to be visiting this place at least one more time while working up here in Anacortes this week. The prices for the food were what you would expect from a standard Mexican restaurant, and was well worth it. If you're ever in the area and are looking for some good mexican food on the quick I suggest heading into this place and ordering up a plate.

Reviewed as an inexpensive Mexican restaurant: five stars. I had the veggie wet burrito, which was filled with recognizable vegetables (zucchini, spinach, onions, squash...) and covered with a melted cheese/tomato sauce. A little confetti of tomatoes and onions sprinkled on top, with a generous dollop of guacamole. Delicious rice, good beans filling out the burrito. I highly recommend this dish for vegetarians. My friend had the pork tacos, which she described as "tasty." (But she's a Canadian, so probably a bit of understatement there.) Standard chips & salsa with the meal were also good. Not many items in the condiments tray, but what they had was well made. Wonderful cabbage slaw (spicy orange vinaigrette), super-hot pickled carrot slices, limes, can't remember what else. Definitely try the slaw if you want more flavor than heat. It's set up as a fast food restaurant, but the food quality was way above that - and the prices were reasonable to the point of being a bargain. Especially when you consider the portion sizing, which was generous. Friendly staff, I'm very happy we decided to eat there!

I got the fish burrito; my wife the fish taco. She said her taco was OK except "the fish was gross". Pressed, she said it tasted weird and it was just a thin slice, not a chunk of tasty fish as we were used to. She said maybe 2 out of 5. And that's the good news. I asked them to just put a little bit of rice on my fish burrito. My fish burrito was STUFFED with beans and rice and very little else. I ate it because I was hungry, but there was very little enjoyment. I'm from Seattle and calibrated for Taco Del Mar's fish burritos. At $8.95 and with the reviews I'd read here, I figured I was in for a treat. Well, all I ever tasted was beans and rice with a hint of some other stuff. They basically stomped on all the burrito ingredients that have any cost at all and filled it with - well, filler. Here's the worst part. I never did detect any fish. At all. On a scale of 1 to 5 I'd give these banditos a solid 0. The reason they got 2 stars overall is that they do have a great location, they are clean and have a reasonably appealing dining room, they have a parking lot, and their employees are smiling and appear helpful and friendly. Plus, apparently some items are better than others. For sure I'm never going there again. I surely recommend you don't either.

We eat in or take out from here at least once a week, so yeah, we are big fans. The ONLY reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because there is no margarita on the menu. Boo for no liquor!!! My favorite things here are: bean and cheese burrito, all the different tacos, wet veggie burrito, and the chiles rellenos is awesome. Also, I like their salsa a lot. They do serve beer if you eat in.

Atmosphere/Decor: 5 Stars Customer Service: 5 Stars Price: 4 Stars Food: 3.5 Stars I've been to a handful of Mexican restuarants in Skagit/Island counties and this one is very good! I hear a lot of "just like San Diego" references but being a part time SD native, I disagree. It "looks" just like them but the food is closer to the same food served around this area. San Diegas won't find a carneasada or chicken burrito that we expect from our local Alberto's so give up on that right now. (You can pay $8 and up and request no bean/rice/cheese and add guacamole and make your own SD style but then it gets expensive--trust me:) However, this place has the nicest staff that I've encounted since moving here in ANY restaurant in Anacortes, Seattle, Whidbey, etc. They are very friendly and awesome with the free chips:) I think I paid eight bucks for my ceviche and Corona and with the free chips, I ended up leaving food on my plate!

Tasty food and great service. When we stopped in for dinner, they were close to closing but still served us a great meal. I had three soft tacos (asada, al pastor and pollo). They were all delicious. Simple food, perfectly prepared: the sign of a great taqueria. My friends had the "wet" veggie burrito and chile rejeno, which came on massive plates surrounded by beans and rice. Everyone loved their food. And the customer service was incredible. The folks working were super attentive and even got our table a free soda after one of ours spilled.

This place is the perfect little hole in the wall that you could simply drive past everyday, BUT you shouldn't because they have some damn good tacos. My boyfriend and I stopped here on the way back to Seattle form the San Juan islands and were not disappointed. I ordered the agave burrito with steak and he ordered one of each (steak, shrimp, and pork) tacos. He said he wished he would have gotten all three shrimp, while the others were just okay. My burrito was very filling and so, so good. Overall, a fast, delicious taco joint!

  • Donna C.

This place was awesome! I did not expect to find solid Mexican food here but this exceeded my expectations. The shrimp inside Bob's Enchilada special was so tasty as was the sauce. Rice and beans were average. The wet chile verde burrito was also excellent with nicely cooked cubes of pork. I loved that they have the sides of pickled peppers and cabbage. Great service too!

As seems to be the case with a lot of people, we stopped here before heading to the ferry line to park and wait. One of us got a vegetarian quesadilla that was light on the cheese. She LOVED IT, and she is not an easy person to please. I got the shrimp burrito. I loved mine less than she love hers. A bit pedestrian. The real kicker for me, though, was the salsa that came with the chips. Damn! Soooo good. In fact, it was so good that I asked the owner/manager if they sell it in to-go quantities. For $3.75, I walked out of there with 16 ounces of fresh, delicious salsa...in a Pepsi soda to-go cup. :) Seriously, stop here if for no other reason than to buy salsa to eat with chips while you wait for the ferry.

What a great place! Agave Tacqueria is the place to stop if you're waiting for the ferry. We were going to settle for one of the big chains (Whoppers are always a winner), but we decided to try this quaint restaurant because it had a drive-through. The fact that Agave has a drive-through initially signaled "fast food," which was okay because that's what we were expecting. Pleasantly, we were surprised to find out the food was something to be savored rather than simply devoured (which is what I usually do with Fast food). I would have never imagined going to Anacortes to get good Mexican food. Now I can. For Seattlites who've been to the Rancho Bravo on Capitol Hill, I'd say Agave Tacqueria is a couple tiers above in flavor deliciousness. We ordered a variety of items from tacos to arroz con pollo. The portions were very generous and we were all stuffed at the end. I couldn't finish my plate! We went through the drive-through and the service was great. While we waited for food, they were kind enough to offer refills on our beverages; how considerate! One thing to watch out for is the pricing. Items range between $5-20 dollars, but from my experience, you get what you pay for. The next time I take a trip to the islands, I'm definitely going to budget in some extra time to stop by Agave Tacqueria again! Great food, great service...happiness.

Nice quick stop when you don't want to hang around Anacortes too long after that long ferry ride. I was pleasantly surprised by this little stop. I saw the drive thru sign and almost kept driving... BUT thanks to my fellow Yelpers (seeing great reviews) I decided to pop in. Craving Mexican food I was intrigued by their large menu, yet small shop. Their service was AWEsome. The guy who served us was the cutest little thing. And you know... when someone can give you a recommendation with the utmost confidence, that is always appreciated. Most of the time all I need is for someone to confirm that something is Good and I hop on board to try it. This cutie patootie told me to get the fish tacos... boy was he right! I got the fish corn flower tacos. Mhm delicious. Tender, succulent, fish just dripping in juices. Covered with a dill sauce, pico, and cabbage. I really enjoyed this light and savory dish. Their salsa was top notch too. The cumin was a comin and I was likin' it! I also ordered a side of beans. Nice to not have them refried. Gave me a sense of care on behalf of the menu makers. The service was great, the atmosphere was pretty cute, and the food was flavorful and light - but did me in. Mexican in Anacortes? Yes... grab a hold of these eats.

Best Mexican food I have had in Washington ...the salsa is the biggest highlight of my experience there...plus big ass portions had to get a to go box. Fast and friendly service plus we sat out in the sun which was nice.

We just spent 4 years living in Mexico, and this place felt like home when we walked in. Very friendly workers, and a very big menu to choose from. The tacos are very authentic in my opinion and the complementary condiments were just what you would see in the taco carts of Mexico. The price of the tacos is pretty good for America, too, especially considering the quality. We've eaten there several times and never been disappointed.

Super friendly staff & excellent food to match! Their fish tacos are off the chain!!! And yes, their salsa is yummy too! The only thing this place is missing (and every other Mexican Joint in the Pac NW is missing too), is queso dip!!! Yup, they rock & their food is excellent. The speedy service is a plus too!!

We didn't want to go sit down for dinner so we took our food to go. It only took about 15 minutes for them to prepare it so we enjoyed a Victoria beer while we waited. My sister and I both got the enchilada plate with one chicken and one cheese enchilada. The chicken had a lot of flavor and wasn't like a typical Mexican restaurant chicken enchilada with shredded chicken, it was much better. It came with rice and beans so it was very filling. We also got chips and salsa with our meal and the salsa was tasty and has just the right spice. We shared some churros for dessert and they were perfect - not too sweet and smothered in sugar. I can't believe I haven't tried this place sooner!

Thank you Yelp! We stopped here after a trip to Friday Harbor as it's right off the ferry on the way back. We had the Agave wet vegetarian burrito and the veggie quesadilla. Both were hands down amazing. Don't expect the usual American-Mexican cheesy covered entree. Both entrees included a hearty helping of spinach, potatoes, mushrooms and other veggies. The only caution here is that the portions are very large....one dish can definitely feed two adults. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean although from the outside you wouldn't know what a gem it really is!

This place is great. Small hole-in-the-wall, yet the food is excellent and the staff is extremely nice. Get the 10 finger burrito, you won't be disappointed.

This review should have been written in July 2009, but I'm a bit behind the times :) It was 8:50 PM by the time we were spit out of the Anacortes ferry; 12 hours earlier, we had started out from Port Hardy, Vancouver Island. It had been a loong day, we still had an hour to go, and my road trip partner had been craving a wet burrito for eons. (Note to everyone: there are basically no Mexican joints in rural BC, where we had been for the past four days. But I digress, as usual.) Thanks to the wonders of the iPhone and earlier Yelpers (the SD reviews helped a ton), we landed here just as they were closing (literally at 9 PM) and the staff were super-nice -- made us food and insisted that we stay and actually eat. I don't know if it was due to severe hunger or super-tiredness, but I inhaled my fish tacos and loved every bite. Not spicy (I break out, so that's a good thing) but a super-flavorful sauce and marinade. I think my friend inhaled his burrito too...either way, one of the best non-spicy fish tacos I've ever had. Would go back here in a heartbeat.

I wanted to like this place after reading the reviews but .... What kind of authentic Mexican restaurant serves the same molded crispy corn tortilla shells that you can buy in a 12 pack at Safeway or filled with ground hamburger at Taco Time? Yuk.

Great, quick service and wonderful food. It is our go to place for quick food when we don't want to cook or are craving a phenomenal burrito.

The window where you order is badly placed, and weird and small. Other then that the food is great and the staff is friendly. Fish tacos are excellent and staff is friendly enough, but its kind of a seat your self place so they aren't up in your grill all the time.

This place is blissed-out rock! I live in Brooklyn, NY, but visit friends in the San Juan Islands annually. Agave is a must stop. I'll miss the ferry if it means missing these tacos on my way... the fish taco...to die for! I just can't find tacos this good in NYC.

I like to go here after every tattoo i get at Bandana Mikes. The food is fresh made out of quality product and the taste is out of this world. Best Mexican food from Whidbey island to Bellingham. Come here with an apatite cause the portions are bountiful. My personal favorite is the fish tacos with appetizer of tacquitos. Well worth the trip.

Great little Tacqueria. Inexpensive and good quality with nice people behind the counter. If I were in California this place might get three stars, but as this is in Washington state I'll bump it up another star to 4. Best Mexican food in Anacortes, and one of the best value restaurants we found in the town.

Really good, authentic tacos! I was visiting from California and have been to my share of tacquerias and I was impressed with the quality of the food. Only complaint was the price. $2.50/chicken taco is pretty high compared to other places I've been, but in the middle of Anacortes, it is what it is. Good place!

This place was exactly what we were hoping for! Fresh, authentic-ish,cheap, quick, and tasty. Our group ordered items from across the menu and all were wins. I had the taco salad which was a mega generous serving for $7.50. We would definitely would go back.

Very good place to eat. You order at the window and they bring they food out to the your table. The only issue I had that it is a tad bit expensive. I had the Carne Asada, chips and guacamole and it came to about 20 bucks. Other than that, this place is great.

This place rocks. After being away from my beloved California mexican food for nearly 18 years I have finally found a place that is an amazing replacement for it! YUM! My boyfriend, his son and I went for lunch and between the three of us we had carne asada tacos, a burrito, and some delicious ceviche. I had a smile on my face during the whole meal because it reminded me so much of "home"!!

Grabbed a cab into town while waiting for Anacortes ferry. Luckily found this place with Yelp. If you want to go Mexican or need a taste of home come to Agave Tacqueria. The good part is if you are on the run they do take out! The burritos are huge and tasty; same with the quesadilla. The decor is simple but festive. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The food, if you are in a hurry, is quick but not fast food. I highly recommend.

The food here is decent. Nothing special compared to other Mexican places I've been to. Not that its bad. I just found it underwhelming given its high yelp score. My wife liked their horchata.

I stopped by for lunch yesterday (based on the Yelp reviews). The Agave Tacqueria is excellent. Great food, reasonably priced, with (as mentioned in other reviews) a very friendly staff.

My family all likes Agave Tacqueria. The food seems fresh, the prices are low, the food is served quickly and with a smile. The staff seems more personable and chatty than many other local staff at restaurants in Anacortes. This one is one of our most frequent places to eat when in Annacortes.

Love this place. My favorite Mexican restaurant in town. My boyfriend and I get lunch here often, and it's basically the only place in town to grab a quick dinner that isn't disgusting fast food. They are always really nice and accommodating (they don't even charge me for extra sour cream like every other restaurant). Their portions are huge and come with ample chips and salsa. I have no idea how they make their food so quick and have it still be delicious, but the fact that they have a drive-through shows how speedy their service is. Go here!!

We love Mexican food. Agave is one of the best. The restaurant is simple and clean with a friendly staff. Order at the window and they bring the food out. Grab a beer from the cold case. Enjoy chips and salsa while you're waiting for some of the most flavorful Carne Asada you'll find anywhere. Its hard not to stop here every time we're in Anacortes!

The BEST Mexican food in A-town. I grew up in Chula Vista, have lived in TJ, Mexico. I am picky about my Mexican food. It doesn't get better than this in Anacortes! And the people are awesome too, great service!

I can't say enough good things about this place. I love it - I've been coming here since it opened, but only once or twice a year since I've moved to California. My parents still live in the area, so I visit when I can. The food is excellent. I am not a discriminating eater, so I'm not guaranteeing you'll love it as much as I do, but I get carne asada tacos every time and I never get tired of them. Honestly, there's something about the asada at this place that's just a little *better* than most Mexican places in the area, and certainly comparable to anything I can find in So. California. They used to put pinto beans and pico de gallo on every taco -- make sure you ask for it, because I'm not sure how the "standard taco" is formed these days, but I'm pretty sure they don't charge extra. Chips and salsa come with your order if you take it in the restaurant, the soft drinks are fountain sodas and refillable, and the staff is VERY friendly. The owner gave me a "frequent eater" card and I filled it up over the course of three years and a name change -- the girl on duty when I finally had my tenth meal honored the card even though she'd never seen anything like it before. She was also kind of cute. Although she might have been in high school - who can tell? ANYWAY - if you're on vacation or live in the area (it's easy to miss - just a small free-standing building on Commercial Ave.), check out Agave Taqueria. You'll definitely get a four-star experience, and you might love it like I do! You wouldn't expect Mexican food this good on an island in Washington, but they do it right. By the way: - they serve pepsi products. in case you care about that sort of thing. - they have a drive-thru

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
