I use to live in Vergennes and during my time living in town, I happily walked down the street to grab a meal here. Three square meals here are reliable, high quality, and tasty. The atmosphere is bright and the staff are helpful. I enjoy catching up with owner/chef Matt Birong and sous chef Eric. I have never been disappointed with the food, coffee or desserts. My husband and I love driving 30-minutes south when Matt does his Restaurant Week menu. It is always a special three course meal, especially when he integrates the cocoa he brings back from an organic chocolate cooperative in the Dominican Republic (Kirschner Chocolates). The prices are reasonable and its a great place to bring family.

Cute and comfortable spot. Everything was perfect and fresh. The chef was extremely nice as was the cashier. My turkey bacon Swiss panini was super yummy. Turkey was very fresh (not cold cuts) and lots of it for a sandwich! Definitely would go back if I am in the area.

Busy restaurant in a cute town. Stopped for a bite on my way home from dropping off my son at UVM. It was recommended & although the food was good it was a long wait. Definitely fresh ingredients but not the friendliest staff. Surprising that there were no gluten free bread options.

Cute place. Awful service. The staff was arguing with eachother openly. I waited 30 minutes for an iced coffee.

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday as we were passing through town. It was the only place open in town so it was undoubtedly busy. They warned us that it would be a 30 min wait for our order, but we sat down and did some people watching in the meanwhile. It is very vintage meets hipster. Old original wood floors, mismatched wood tables and chairs of various sizes. Their is a limited amount of outdoor seating but you'll have to keep an eye out because they are few and coveted. It's charming, though I could do with a few less flies but now I'm just being picky. The breakfast menu looked delicious, the French toast that I saw other people order looked appetizing. We ordered the turkey, bacon, and Swiss panino and the pulled pork burrito. The turkey was incredible. Served on a crispy focaccia, with what I think was a garlic mayo. The bacon and Swiss cheese melted together for a delicious flavor. The burrito was quite respectable. Stuffed with Spanish rice and beans with a side of salsa that was spicy. The pork was tender and not too salty. The even the burrito wrap was good, not soggy, but hot and a little crispy almost. I'd stop through again in the future, especially if I could hit them up for their breakfast menu.

this is down to earth farm to table cafe that serves breakfast until 3 pm! they also do a great burger out of local meat. You order your food at the counter, you pay for it & you are given a unique wooden toy. You sit down at a table. When your order is ready they bring it to you and take away the toy!

Very nice place the food was tasty .I loved the English muffin the sausage home fries and eggs over easy. Even though it was my second choice no American cheese ??? Is this America ? I liked that it was a serve yourself coffee bar although selection was limited. All in all not a bad place I would go back and recommend it.

Its a small town...so be aware that for a regular coffee to go it will take about almost 20 minutes.

3 Squares is probably my favorite place to go in Vergennes other than Daily Chocolate and Vergennes Laundry. Vergennes is a cute little town about 40 minutes south of Burlington. I love to go there for lunch and a change of scenery. Lovely spring though fall. Hiking at Snake Mountain near by. Cute little shops, and considering the size of the town, nice food choices. 3 Squares has a laid back homey feel. It can be quite noisy when it's crowded which is usually brunch and lunch. The sandwiches are good, the specials interesting and comforting. It serves breakfast all day, and I believe is even open for dinner. There is always a mixed crowd of people there. Some you know live close by and others that are visiting. The only drawback, really, other than the acoustics, is that if you want to sit outside. large commercial trucks go by every 60 seconds or so and are very loud, so unless you go off hours, noise is a problem inside or out. The dessert there is just so-so, so I go to Vergennes Laundry or Daily Chocolate if I want sweets. But for a homey, cozy relaxed spot in a quaint Vermont town, 3 Squares is hard to beat.

This is the best place in Addison or Chittenden Counties for breakfast! We live in South Burlington, and come here for their awesome french toast -- absolutely delicious! Food is always fresh, and well prepared. Creative menus. Great Boyden Farm burgers for lunch. Don't overlook this small town gem!

After being frustrated twice at Vergennes Laundry - odd hours, $10 card minimum - I went by 3Squares to vent and buy a coffee, and the owner was so amused by it that I got the coffee and a muffin on the house. Good crew here, and a cool ambiance. Can't do better in Vergennes or clear to Middlebury.

Great spot! I enjoyed a tasty pulled pork burrito with excellent mole. My husband had a fantastic blt special with caramelized onions and some delightful cream of mushroom soup. Loved how fresh everything tasted and the use lots of local ingredients. We'll be back next time we are in the area, hopefully for breakfast which is served until 3pm! Nice to find a good spot when you don't feel like braving downtown Burlington. Friendly service and nice relaxed atmosphere. Love it!

This place gets all the stars for a reason, I eat here way too often. You can't go wrong. Blackened Chicken sandwich, the burger, breakfast, $2 Tecates. Egg breakfast wrap. The food is great. It can get crowded because it is so good.

This place is great! Fast, friendly service. Excellent food and delicious, fresh-squeezed juice. We would definitely return next time we are in the area. Homemade food with fresh local ingredients makes this spot a winner!

This place was what I had heard about the last time I visited which was a big improvement over my experience here a couple of years ago. The green salad was fresh and delicious and the grilled sandwich was hot and yummy this time! Timetable is still a little on the slow side but that's not necessarily a bad thing and hey, this is Vermont after all...the staff is friendly but this is also a good place to sit and talk without a waiter popping over too frequently (and that for me is a plus).

Stopped here on way home from Burlington to Albany. Excellent food, small menu (appropriately, it's a small place) but highly varied. Everything is good, I'd much rather eat at a place like this with fewer options all done well than a huge and questionable menu. Good mix of breakfast food, salads and sandwiches. Food including all vegetables is fresh and made to order, but fast. Tomato/broccoli rabe panini & tuna melt were excellent. My 14 yo son liked his pancakes w berries & granola cooked in. I liked that you can design your own breakfast scramble with items such as chorizo, fresh vegetables, etc -- many toppings to choose from. Portions are a little large for us but just right for most Americans! Desserts are also delicious and made on premises -- I nearly collided w a baker carrying out a tray of delicious looking coconut macaroons. Had been trying to go to vergennes laundry but it was closed 1pm on a Sunday; based on some troublesome reviews & the excellent food at 3 square I'd say skip the laundry and head to this place.

We wanted to stop by Vergennes Laundry, but it was randomly closed so we ended up here. Lucky us, cause the French toast was awesome and the coffee was great. This place saved the day.

My wife and I found 3 Squares while driving back from visiting friends in the Burlington area. We were looking for a quick, quality place to grab some lunch before making the 5+ hour drive back down to Long Island. One word Jackpot! The food here was amazing. I ordered a pulled pork burrito covered in a deliciously spicy Mole sauce and a seasoned sour cream. My wife ordered there Muffuletta. If you're in the area I definitely recommend stopping here. So much so I actually took the time to write this review.

3 Squares is good for lunch and breakfast. I've dined here several times over two years. They take their time so it's best you plan for an hour. I love their egg panino for breakfast, and I recommend the sipping chocolate with espresso (Appropriately named the Mayan Speed Ball). Their breads are spectacular! Vergennes is becoming my stop for CARBS! For lunch you can't go wrong, but the burger is, sadly, over priced. I get a lot of slack for this with friends and colleagues and this is, of course, just my opinion but I generally hate $12 burgers. It gives me the same feeling when paying $4 for a bottle of water at six flags. Yes, I've had their 8oz burger, it's good, and Id pay $9 tops and probably frequent this selection more often if it were priced right. (For $5 you can get the 4oz kids burger which will hit the spot for me just fine) The food is certainly fresh and I love the local sources (even the beef). If you enjoy gorgeous veggies, this is the place for you. 3 Squares has a wonderful selection of drinks and I love a glass of wine at lunch from time to time - so all in all 3 squares has something for everybody and it's definitely worth a stop for a long leisurely lunch.

Had lunch with the family on our way back from Lake Placid, and the food lived up to expectations/reviews. Good quality, tasty, and fresh fare at a reasonable price. Was quite busy even at 2pm for lunch on Sunday - good testament to the quality of the establishment. The atmosphere was bit cold/unfriendly - this was primarily from many of the patrons. After we got settled, the very busy staff was friendly. Would recommend for b-fast/lunch.

Holy smokes!! What great flavors! I had a grilled chicken cob sandwich w/avocado , bacon, and a blue cheese cream. Perfect! My bf had a pulled pork burrito - almost licked the plate clean!

Brunch is fantastic. So many awesome options with locally sourced ingredients. The challah french toast with cinnamon whip and assorted fruits was out of this world. The place was packed for Sunday brunch so our order took a bit longer than I would normally like, but it was worth the wait! The vergennes brunch mecca!

It's obvious that this is the top bfast spot of this small town. The service was excellent, however they could have been more attentive on keeping the coffee carafe filled we were unable to get the bolder two of the three brews. The food was good, toast was a little blah, yet nothing two packs of butter couldn't fix. The ham is top notch, thinly sliced which was a different style of breakfast perpetration than I'm use to, yet very tasty.

This place is cute and the food is lovely - but the three stars is for the service. Never have I encountered a ruder counter attendant. She was not helpful with the menu nor was she polite or friendly - she was just sour. The food is presented nicely and there are a lot of choices on the menu and everything was fresh. They do serve wine and beer which is very nice!

I cannot say enough good things about this lovely cafe. In addition to wonderful food served in the cafe, they are also an incredible catering service. They catered our daughter's wedding for 175 this past weekend, and they went above and beyond. The job was a challenge, they had no kitchen to work with and had to bring in everything. They rose to the occasion, and provided us with fabulous food. From the first passed starter, to the last item on the beautiful buffet, everything was delicious. I don't ever remember better food at a wedding (which is not an easy task). Our friends are all still raving about it! Do not hesitate to use these great folks for any event- big or small.

This place is awesome - one of the best breakfasts I've ever had - and I am extremely picky when it comes to breakfast. We've been here a few times now and it is always delicious. We highly recommend the breakfast wrap, breakfast tostada, smoked salmon bagel, orchard apple pancakes!! Enjoy!!

We stopped by this cute little place on the way back from a trip in Burlington VT and each one of us was glad we did. We ordered the French Toast, which was to die for. It comes with a light fluffy cinnamon cream, VT maple syrup, slices of bananas folded into the whipped cream. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Green eggs and Ham, which even if i tried, I wouldnt be able to recreate in my kitchen. The slight flavoring is not overpowering. I'm not a potato person (the side with it), but the eggs themselves are something you wont find anywhere else. Get here early, within minutes of us finding a seat, the place filled up! Oh yeah, unlimited coffee is a huge plus!!

Quaint little cafe right on Main St. We were passing through just in time for breakfast and decided to give it a try. Being a Wednesday, there was no wait (yay!). Very friendly girl taking the order and ringing us up. Minor quibble (but not nearly enough to knock off a star) was the fairly limited menu. Interesting choices, but everything was fairly substantial, nothing much on the small side. I thought I was safe with an egg panini (provolone and spinach add-ins included), but HOLY COW! This was one substantial sammie! I ate it of course, couldn't let that yumminess go to waste, but wowza it was a generous portion! Hubby got the granola pancakes with strawberries. Bonus points for having only real maple syrup and not charging extra. (Pet peeve of mine, esp in Vermont). Home fries were meh...tasted bland. Coffee was local and very good. I chatted a bit with one of the guys in the kitchen and he was in the process of making bread pudding with strawberries and I think white chocolate for the next day. mmmmm...sorry I was back on the road to RI! Nice, quirky place, friendly folks, more than fair prices considering the quantity and quality, just make some smaller options soon, hmm?

This place has the best French Toast in Vermont. The only place I have had better is Zaftigs in Boston. I've been here several times for breakfast and sadly can not review anything other than the French Toast. It is so good I get it every time. One time I had lunch, a hamburger. It was equally fantastic.

I'm a fan! 3 Squares is a little VT gem. I had their turkey and swiss sandwich, with smoked bacon and garlic mayo. Delish. And it was huge and reasonably priced. The service was friendly and fast, and the cafe itself is charming and gets a lot of sunlight-- a great place to drop in for a tasty bite to eat.

This restaurant is located across from the town square in Vergennes. Their menu focuses on breakfast and sandwiches with limited other options. They have focused on being "natural" to the extent that they used to not have artificially sweetened soft drinks but fortunately they have loosened up a bit. While I am not a major fan of sandwiches in the first place, the sandwiches here were somewhat creative and at least used a lot of fresh ingredients. The highlight of the breakfast items I tried was a pancake that literally had granola and fruit cooked into the top and it was this pretty good item alone that moved this places rating from 2 to 3 stars. If you are satisfied with sandwiches or slightly natural breakfast items, this place may be for you, safe and somewhat trendy in a quaint small town setting.

Debated waiting until Burlington for lunch but gave this place a shot based on Yelpers. Glad I did. Xclnt! And judging from plates going by and comments I overheard, you can't go wrong. Great vibe, friendly staff and good eats.

Vegan-friendly, tasty food. I love sandwiches and salads, and this place does them right. Fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and orange juice was an added treat. However, 3 Squares is not air conditioned. I felt faint sitting in the hot, loud restaurant. (It was far too hot for us to sit outside.) We'll return on a cooler day and sit outside, or on a cold day eat indoors on off hours.

Was staying at Basin Harbor for a wedding and decided to venture out to Vergennes. This place served some great food. For breakfast I had an eggs benedict that was really good. The next day we stopped by for lunch and I had a brie sandwich that was great too. In the summer, the temp inside is pretty hot and not a lot of ventilation. The kitchen is pretty slow too, but its worth it.

FIVE STARS FOR THE "COUNTER ATTENDANT"! Not only is she knowledgeable about the menu, she went out of her way to recommend some fun things for my family and I to check out. The food was delish and service was fabulous. I can't wait to stop in again.

Nice place, should give four stars, and on some other day I would, so take this as three going on four or opposite. I'm not a "fan", but it is definitely more that OK, for sure! Good points first: Vergennes has simply no other "feel-good" Cafe. (That can also become a "bad point" eventually, as if you live/work here you don't want to go to the same place all the time, and there is really nothing comparable unless you drive out of town. So it becomes some sort of school cafeteria if you work closely.) Food here is really very good and not unbearably expensive. I never had anything that did not taste good. French Toast is, indeed, excellent and possibly really the best in VT, as some other people already mentioned. Also great would be their apple pie, although sometimes it is super sweet, so order a coffee with it. The dishes are good, the crowd is mixed (wow, everyone can come here to eat? Really EVERYONE? Not only the rich, not only the scruffy! Very unusual indeed for this street, and this town!) And you can come here morning til evening for any meal you need. Breakfast is great! Staff is friendly and effective. Decor is comfortable, various seating options depending on your needs, also some outdoor tables to watch the NY delivery trucks racing by. (Don't expect them to go 35mph, they won't do that, so if you are walking to 3SQU Cafe and cross the road, take real good care that they won't run you over, but that might lead to another topic, - hey, can we also YELP review Vergennes police somewhere? Oh well, back to the Cafe!) Don't miss out admiring the huge, impressive print vintage poster (FAKIR) on the wall to the bathrooms. Bad points are majorly two: 1; somehow they have crap ventilation. At peak times it can be hard to actually breathe (!) and your clothes will smell like you've been frying food for hours. At some point they renovated and I was hoping they'd get to that, but they didn't, so far. 2; around noon it will be packed with Goodrich people from the nearby company, probably not much seating space then, and they can get a bit territorial. But this, too, shall pass and a bit later there will be space to sit down and enjoy. Oh, one more really important good point: the chef makes an excellent green colored spicy chili sauce with coriander possibly, is it? Ask for that, it is really delicious on homefries etc! Nice place. Good to go to. Glad it's there.

I stopped here for lunch on the drive back to Burlington from Middlebury. It was worth going a little out of the way for. I had one of their lunch specials--a turkey, bacon, and brie sandwich on whole grain bread with cranberry sauce, red onions, and spring greens with lightly dressed spring greens on the side. A little different and very tasty. Atmosphere is rustic storefront. Nothing fancy. Staff is friendly.

French toast is amazing. It had mascapone, apple, bananas and strawberry on top of challah bread. We also had the grilled vegetable sandwich on foccacia and kids chocolate chip pancakes n cheeseburger. I was pretty impressed that for $5 the kids burger was really good. The patty was fresh ground not frozen beef and it came with a stack of fresh lettuce n tomato. This is a must visit.

This is a sandwich shop. A very very good sandwich shop. They make a pretty good breakfast too. There is nothing specifically labeled as organic on the menu, but many of the ingredients they use are organic and/or local. The food tastes great and most entrees come with a simple salad. In summer the outside seating is a pleasant spot to enjoy your meal.

I had brunch at this place once and cannot wait to go back. I would frequent this homey cafe if I lived closer to Vergennes. I had eggs benedict and coffee and the price was great, even a little lower considering how much they gave me.This wasn't your typical meal cooked on a greasy, over-used griddle in a run-down, old-town diner. It was one of those meals that made you feel like you were on a farm that your family has owned for 4 generations and that it was home-cooked and made just the way you like it. The interior of the cafe is also likened to that of a farm house with Vermont farm tables and benches. The air isn't stale but smells like bread baking in the oven and fresh coffee. The staff is down-to-earth and makes you feel more like you're guests at their own house rather than customers they've never met before. All in all, this is a great place to simply chill out with friends on a Sunday afternoon and gorge yourself with good food.

Gotta be on of the country's best breakfasts. Green Eggs and Ham was fabulous. Others had huevos rancheros, french toast, and egg panino. Everyone was thrilled. Wish we lived closer.

Fabulous restaurant with "to die for" sandwiches! Did I mention the service? Ask to be served by Kelly... you'll come back again and again!! (if you come for breakfast try the Eggs Benefict... you won't be sorry.)

Can't say enough great things about 3 Squares. I had the most fantastic Greek hummus plate on my way up to Burlington. Half the fun is looking around and seeing the beautiful food creations all the others were eating around me. Wish this were in my town

we had both lunch and dinner here during our visit to vergennes. the menu is fantastic and the service as well. great selection, fresh (you have to try the side salad option; their dressing is amazing) and reasonably priced for the quality and service. laid back atmosphere. lunch specials and dinner specials are different. we had an eggplant and tomato soup that was awesome as well as a few sandwiches. good drink selection, too. it's the only fresh/local food option IMO.

It may have been the hike up Snake Mountain (and back down, obviously!), or it may have been the appetite-inducing Vermont spring weather, but "this is a keeper"! The place is a vague cross between homey and trendy, with cozy mismatched dining furniture yet with a avant-garde looking menu. Fares sampled were blackened shrimps w/ sausage & peppers with corn grits, roasted eggplant and goat cheese panino, a roast beef sandwich with bacon called "The Sarge", the daily special that was 90% like "The Sarge" except it had grilled onions instead of bacon, and spinach salad with candied walnuts and cranberries and goat cheese. Everything was tasty and executed well.

Matt has created a resturnat that is both yummy and you feel good eating out because so much comes from local farms! The paninis are fantastic and I love that they come with a little side salad. They also are great for breakfast but expect a little wait on the weekends. The specials are always creative but my favorite is a turkey bacon with garlic mayo - you just can't go wrong! It is a friendly place that I would recommend anytime! If you really want a treat make sure to try the home made creme brule!

Really enjoyed stopping in here for lunch today. Nice location right in the heart of town and the food was everything I was looking for on a day trip through Vermont. My sandwich was really good (Chicken cobb themed) and the espresso was generously sized for any caffeine junkie. Highly recommended!

Stopped here on my way through Vergennes for lunch. What a great place! So many healthy and tasty options on the menu. I had a greek sandwich with olive tapenade, spinach, tomatoes, and feta on a pita, and it was really good. My husband's homemade corned beef hash was great too, very unique. Wish I lived closer so I could go more often!
