3 Squares Cafe

I use to live in Vergennes and during my time living in town, I happily walked down the street to grab a meal here. Three square meals here are reliable, high quality, and tasty. The atmosphere is bright and the staff are helpful. I enjoy catching up with owner/chef Matt Birong and sous chef Eric. I have never been disappointed with the food, coffee or desserts. My husband and I love driving 30-minutes south when Matt does his Restaurant Week menu. It is always a special three course meal, especially when he integrates the cocoa he brings back from an organic chocolate cooperative in the Dominican Republic (Kirschner Chocolates). The prices are reasonable and its a great place to bring family.
Cute and comfortable spot. Everything was perfect and fresh. The chef was extremely nice as was the cashier. My turkey bacon Swiss panini was super yummy. Turkey was very fresh (not cold cuts) and lots of it for a sandwich! Definitely would go back if I am in the area.
Busy restaurant in a cute town. Stopped for a bite on my way home from dropping off my son at UVM. It was recommended & although the food was good it was a long wait. Definitely fresh ingredients but not the friendliest staff. Surprising that there were no gluten free bread options.

So good!!! Basil Mayo with FRIES!!!! MUST GO
The food is flavorful and each dish is unique. Portions are appropriate and send you away feeling like a stuffed sausage. If you're a big eater then you may want to consider a starter and a dessert. ;) The bistro is cozy and, in some places, crowded, but unless you're traveling with a posse and supplies (like strollers, diaper bags, and oversized purses) you shouldn't find that to be a problem. The noise level is good (easy enough to carry on a quiet conversation). And the temperature (despite cold outdoors) was very nice. It's dimly lit so if you like bright lights, bring a flashlight. We love this place. And we also plan to check out this chef's other two places; The Bearded Frog on R7 in Shelburne and the Bobcat Cafe in Bristol. Oh, and try The Left Bank Shiraz from South Africa...very nice.
What a surprise to find such a wonderful restaurant outside a major city. We enjoyed every bit of our creative and delicious meal. The staff was also delightful and enhanced our experience. My favorite was the two perfect choices of potato, mashed and fried with dips. Dessert was worth leaving room for. We will make it a point to return. Make reservations as it was busy even on a Tuesday night in September.

Food. They got it. Hot dog? Yep! Hamburger! Yep! Maybe some ice cream or a crema or whatever regional term they use to make their town seem unique is. Yep! Got it! Nice scenery. Love the reviews about the gangly kids hanging around. Hey, you raised 'em.
One has got to try out an icecream cone! My mother in-law says it will give you a brain freeze!
When we ordered lunch, they must have thought we said we'd like "flies" instead of fries. HOLY MACKEREL! This poor place has gone WAY down hill since it was Tooties and changed owners years ago. Filthy everywhere, garbage cans right next to where you eat so the flies are right next to you. The old grease container is right next to the building as well so you get to smell that as you enjoy fighting flies and trying to eat as fast as possible with one hand, to finish before your meal is carried away. Spider webs, old food, wobbly tables, snotty teens.I don't know what I was served that was supposed to resemble shrimp but it was kind of white and shiny and most likely freezer burned. They haven't cleaned the outside in a very long time. Truly disgusting in all aspects.

Shuen Lee Chinese Restaurant

Reviews:
I am from NYC, was up here for 3 days on a business trip. Shuen Lee is a traditional mom and pop shop and the food was amazing fresh and good. I highly recommend this Chinese takeout joint. It's a gem in Vergennes, Vermont.
I guess the other reviewers haven't had good Chinese food because this place is ABSOLUTELY THE WORST CHINESE FOOD I'VE EVER HAD!! I tried this place a couple times when I first moved down to Waltham from Burlington and it was terrible. I heard from a few people that it changed owners and that it was really good. I tried it again recently and it was still complete crap food. The rice was overcooked, the chicken was full of fat and greasy and my wife's egg foo young was mushy. The restaurant is mainly take out and looks dirty and not very well maintained inside and out. If you live in northern/eastern Addison County and want great Chinese food, you're better off going to Middlebury to Sabai Sabai (Japanese & Chinese) or to south Middlebury on Route 7 to Magic Wok, which is fantastic and VERY inexpensive, but don't have a liquor license. You can bring your own or they have water or soft drinks. Avoid Shuen Lee unless cheap ingredient garbage Chinese food is your thing. Some of the of the worst food I've ever put in my mouth.
This is strictly a take-out joint & I must say it is very busy. I believe it's the only one in Vergennes, the "smallest city in the USA." We had Curry Chicken, Singapore Mai Fun, Spicy House Fried Rice & Boneless Spare Ribs, and they were all quite average. The Curry Chicken and Mai Fun were a little mushy - I don't know why. The service was friendly but extremely slow for a Chinese restaurant. The servings were ample and filled the belly, but nothing exquisite here.

Basin Harbor Club

Reviews:
Basin Harbor is a piece of heaven. The views of Lake Champlain and the NY Adirondacks are absolutely stunning any time of year and make an unbeatable backdrop for events (especially weddings!). Food in the Main Dining Room is complimented by an extensive wine list and stunning panoramic views of the harbor. Menu changes seasonally based on local bounty and seasonal flavors. The restaurant is open to the public; which not many people know. Golf is also superb down at Basin Harbor Club, no freeways or busy streets interrupting the peaceful game. The resort offers golf memberships at their public course. The Red Mill is a casual gastro-pub on the property as well; lots of local microbrews on tap and really good food. Must haves: stuffed oysters, Button Point sandwich, Basin Harbor Ale and Cheddar soup.
We walked in, drunk people wandering around telling us how inept the staff were. We got our room key, went upstairs and opened the door TO SOMEONE ELSE'S UNPACKED ROOM. They gave us a new room which was dirty and much smaller. We asked for a refund which they gave us, but a manager didn't come out and apologize and that was the end of that. We had been traveling a long time to get there and were tired and extremely disappointed
Great rooms (if you get the new ones), and excellent facilities - plus the friendliest staff!

We live nearby during the summer and have been coming to the Redmill for dinners out for decades! This summer the menu is fantastic and varied, the food exceptional and the service exemplary. We are coming back frequently. Thank you to the entire staff at the Redmill for a wonderful dinner.
I am a local (live in Lincoln, VT) and really want to love this place, but was less than happy with my meal earlier this evening. First of all, I will say that the atmosphere is pleasant, although I wish the view was of something other than a children's playground. Our server was friendly and prompt and my ice tea glass was always refilled, so that was a plus. Also, my house salad was delicious and I enjoyed the homemade blue cheese dressing. I also ordered the grilled Brussels sprouts, which were quite good. For my entree I ordered the gnocchi. I normally LOVE gnocchi, but this was not good gnocchi. It had an unpleasant burned taste, and the gnocchi itself was pasty and dense -- not light and airy and fluffy like it should be. It had obviously been grilled, and many of the pieces were burnt. I was able to send it back and was not charged for it, hence the 3-star rating. Next time I will stick with a burger!
This was my first trip to the Red Mill, a place I had been meaning to eat at for quite awhile. Our sever was friendly and delivered drinks and a bread basket right away. The table we were sat at had fold down (or up) sides. It had apparent use and subsequently left me with an uneven spot to eat my meal. I started with a cup of the Cheddar Ale Soup which was amazing, I could have had several. For an entree I ordered the turkey club sandwich and fries. The ingredients were advertised as local but the sandwich itself left a lot of be desired. The white bread was heavily toasted and somewhat greasy. The toasting was purposeful but took away from the sandwich. The bacon from Dakin Farms was great but the local turkey tasted rubbery and slimily. The savior was the basil garlic aioli. I dinned with four others, two enjoyed their meal very much while the other two said there was a little to be left desired. I want to return again to try a different menu item and give it another shot.

Luigi’s Italian Specialties

Decent grub. Definitely a place to go if you're craving something fried or sloppy. The fries were actually very well done (although just a touch salty). Had the chicken parm 1/2 sandwich and it was good. Nice bread, well-fried juicy chicken cutlet, and good balance of cheese to sauce-to-chicken. You don't need much more than a 1/2 sandwich unless you're ridiculously hungry. Take out is probably the best idea.
I always try to support a local business, but I can't get behind this one. We recently moved to the area and do takeout pizza once every week or two. The mixed reviews turned us off despite it being the closest pizza to our house. A month ago we finally said, "How bad can it be?" and our pie was good. Not spectacular, but a good tasting crust and fresh ingredients. We felt good enough to try them again and so we did a couple of weeks later. This time the dough was raw on the bottom and we had to finish baking it ourselves. I've been eating restaurant pizza for nearly 40 years and I can't recall ever receiving an uncooked pie. It's a deal breaker for me. I wouldn't say that I'd never come back. But unfortunately we'll be back to our previous pizza shopping for the forseeable future. Given that lack of consistency, we'd rather takeout from the New Haven Jiffy, buy frozen from Shaws, or even trek to Bristol or Middlebury than the Luigi's that only a couple of miles from our house.
We stopped in here for some subs for take out. It's your basic hole-in-the wall kind of pizza place. The menu is pretty standard but was also pleased to see your typical list of grinders available as well. We ordered two basic subs but ended up waiting a good 25 minutes while the two people working here chatted with other patrons, passed the job of working on our subs back and forth and just basically ignored the fact that we were actually waiting. No apologies or even recognition that they really dragged their feet with working on our order. The subs were nothing fabulous. Turkey isn't bad but the bread was a bit stale and not at all fresh. The space is not all that comfy and one of the fans in the place was making an irritating clanging sound. Pretty sure we won't be coming back here, even for pizza.
